Friendly And Related Child Case Study
Matthew presented as a friendly and related child. Separation was not attempted; however, he
separated from him mom and sat on a child size chair. He was easily engaged and initiated interactions
with the examiners. Matthew displayed the ability to engage and interact with all the individuals in the
room (i.e., mother; two examiners). Matthew exhibited use of flexible eye gaze and joint attention
throughout the evaluation. In addition, he demonstrated adequate attention to speech, as he localized
to his name and sounds of toys, as well as responded to direct requests accompanied by gesture cues
(e.g. look! ); however, his attention to speech decreased when he appeared fatigue. Additionally,
Matthew demonstrated positive affect during moments

Three Day Road
Wandering
Windigo of the Wemistikoshiw The novel Three Day Road can be viewed as an explicit indicator as to
the importance of sustaining cultural identity, and the consequences associated with its absence from
any aspect of human life. The tale provides a salient setting through which this spiritual malfeasance is
brought about, with much of its content consisting of the supremacy of the wemistikoshiw, or white
man, over the Aboriginals in World
War 1. The novel s European setting manifests the primary cause for the spiritual bankruptcy of Elijah
Weesacheejak, one of the story s central figures and the novel s primary thematic microcosm.
Influenced deeply by
Western ideals, he is said to be a windigo which, as explained by the

An objectivist to the core,
Niska represents an archetype of cultural wisdom, as described by Joseph
Boyden: I wanted her to be a strong woman who was doing this [being a woman of the bush] despite
what everyone says about her and the toughness of her existence... (Wylie 229). Niska is exposed to
the horrors of the world at an early age, witnessing events such as her father s murder of one of her
fellow Cree gone windigo (Boyden 45). This coupled with her being used sexually by the Frenchman,
who claimed to have ...fucked ahcahk, [her] spirit (174), out of lustful capitalism creates a perfect
storm of familiarity with the human condition within her. Niska realizes that the man made society of
the whites further pronounces the flaws of the human spirit, thereby differentiating between her
culture and that of the wemistikoshiw. She explains this difference early on in the novel, by way of her
epileptic visions: No one is safe in such times, not even the Cree of the Mushkegowuk. War touches
everyone, and windigos spring from the earth (49). In order to prevent the mingling of Aboriginal and
European lifestyles, she completely refuses to submit to the will of the wemistikoshiw, even when
forced to live in one of their residential schools as a young girl. The bushmaster neglects even menial
compulsories, such as

Summa Contra Gentiles By Thomas Aquinas
In his book, Summa Contra Gentiles, Thomas Aquinas initiates his consideration of divine nature as
he explores and reflects upon some of the most challenging questions surrounding Catholicism.
Specifically, he focuses on the essence and the existence of God as to provide insight into the natural
ends of human life. Therefore, his consideration and analysis of central Catholic beliefs allows
Catholics to better understand their position as members of a larger structure of human existence. This
paper will analyze the simplicity and existence of divine nature, through an examination of human
wisdom and divine assistance. Before Aquinas begins his consideration of God s divine essence, he
discusses the necessity of wisdom in coming to truly understand ... Show more content on

He speaks to the human desire for happiness, which he defines as the fullness of being. However, he
asserts that we cannot achieve this alone. We require God s grace. This idea is supported by the text
when Aquinas states: For the means must be proportionate to the end: if then man is ordained to an
end transcending his natural capacities, he must be furnished with some supernatural assistance from
heaven, enabling him to tend to that end. (SCG 3.148) Here, Aquinas suggests that grace perfects
nature without distorting it. Accordingly, man was created to be dependent on his creator and what he
provides. This is significant as it implies that man is not able to derive his own holiness from his will,
as in accordance with Pelagian belief. Therefore, much of God s goodness originates from His
willingness to help man get what he

The Rise Of Nazi Germany Was The Capstone Of The Inter-War
The rise of Nazi Germany was the capstone of the inter war period, and led to the outbreak of World
War II, shattering the tenuous peace. The Nazi regime s progress was paralleled by the life of its
leader, Adolf Hitler. Born in a small town in Austria, Hitler dreamed of being an artist. Unable to
demonstrate sufficient artistic skill for entrance into the art academy in Vienna, he did odd jobs and
developed an interest in politics. In 1914, Hitler joined the German army, and earned the iron cross for
bravery as a message carrier. He was immensely disturbed by the German defeat in World War I, and
blamed the loss on the socialists and Jews, who he said had surrendered the nation. In 1920, Hitler
seized control in the German Workers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On February 27, 1933, the Reichstag building burned down and a retarded Dutch boy claiming he
worked for the communists was arrested for arson. There is evidence to prove that the Nazis
themselves had set the fire, but in any case, Hitler used the incident to persuade Hindenburg to restrict
all individual rights and declare that the central government could oust any state government failing to
maintain order. Hitler systematically took control of all of the state governments this way. Hitler s
private army, the S.A., roamed the streets terrorizing political opponents. Even so, the Nazis only won
43.9 percent of the vote in 1933. To gain a two thirds majority Hitler formed an alliance with the
Nationalist party, and declared the communist party illegal. On March 23, 1933, the Reichstag passed
the Enabling Act, giving Hitler the power to make decrees with the status of law, and ending elections.
When Hindenburg died in 1934, Hitler fused the positions of chancellor and president into one office:
Der Fuhrer. He took control as dictator. Hitler constructed the Third Reich under his dictatorship,
using the Gestapo, the secret police, to stifle all dissent. There are many explanations for why Hitler
was able to come to power in Germany. The first focuses on the evil genius of Hitler himself. He was
a master of demagoguery, practicing his

The Chauuvet Cave
The Chauvet Cave holds the earliest human paintings known in history. Because of its importance, the
access to the cave is restricted, except for a few archeologists and paleontologists. However, Herzog s
crew got the opportunity to gain access to the cave and film. In general, caves are very sensitive,
fragile, and narrow places. If the caves haven t been retouched by man s work, they are very
uncomfortable and almost impossible to walk inside. However, it is necessary tot remain untouched or
barely untouched so they keep their essence and important aspects such as the paintings. From the
beginning of the film, you can notice the low quality of the film; it is very grainy and shaky. However,
in the first minutes of the film the narrator explains

The Plato of the Apology
Western philosophy, beginning with the dialogues of Plato, is premised upon both the rejection of the
artform of tragedy and the rejection of experiences and events considered to be tragic. This general
and far reaching exclusion of the tragic originates from Plato s dissension made in The Republic of the
normative claims defined by nearly all tragic and epic poetry regarding the question of how a human
being should live. Tragedy, merely by being tragedy, expresses the following evaluative commitments
regarding human life: One, events beyond the agent s control have the ability to play a major role in
her ability to lead an ethical and moral life. Two, tragedy validates forming emotional attachments to
people and objects beyond the agent s control. And three, sympathy, fear, and pity for the tragic hero
demonstrate the recognition of certain ethical truths, truths which may be applied to everyday life of
the audience members. Plato flatly denies all three of these claims. The Plato of The Apology states
that a good person cannot be harmed. The good person is self sufficient. Both uncontrollable events
and the fate of external objects or people have no effect on the virtuous person. She remains virtuous
no matter the circumstances. Additionally, returning to The Republic, Plato denies the cognitive value
of emotions. Thinking connected to the emotions necessarily focuses on the immediate, the finite, and
the uncontrollable, and, therefore, the false. Poetry must be banned

The Weakening and Loss of Muscle Caused by Muscular Dystrophy Disease As a whole, muscular
dystrophy is a group of many different diseases causing muscle weakness and muscle loss in skeletal
muscles that control movement of the body (Korschun, 2007). Each distinction of this genetic disease
may affect different muscle groups and even have different symptoms. One thing these diseases have
in common is that the person affected will lose more and more muscle as they age. Currently, there is
no cure for muscular dystrophy but there is treatment that may help alleviate the pain and slowing the
disease down (Muscular Dystrophy, n.d.). Most people are diagnosed at a very ... Show more content

Lastly, imaging tests are used to examine the muscles. When muscles are broken down, fatty deposits
replace it. Those who possess a muscular dystrophy disease usually have more fat mass than those
who are healthy (GuzmƔn, Garcƭa, Rodrƭguez Cruz, 2012). Imaging tests can show how much muscle
has been replaced with fat. The symptoms may seem obvious for muscular dystrophy. When muscles
degenerate, they cannot be used at the fullest potential. The earliest symptom may be delayed walking
in children (Bushby et al., 2009). A reduction in size and strength of muscle is another sign that
muscles could be degenerating. The variations of muscular dystrophy disease target different and
several muscles. Having trouble using a group of muscles may be a sign of muscular dystrophy
disease. Some may have trouble standing up, and some people may fall frequently also (How is
muscular, n.d.). If the patient has weak respiratory muscles, they may have trouble breathing due to a
lack of airflow (Makker, H., M., P, 2012). Unfortunately, there is currently no cure for muscular
dystrophy. However, there are treatments that may delay the progression of the disease, alleviating the
pain, and controlling the symptoms. Corticosteroids are the only medication to help slow down this
disease so far (De Los

Journey of an Ethnic Orphan:
Cultural Essay
Over the past 100 years my family has come from many places of origin Lebanon, Spain, Ireland,
Russia, Germany and many others. over the past century there s been a breakdown and separation
amongst the family and its traditions that we used to have. There s so much left to my imagination
regarding my culture and ethnicity, but there is some that I am aware of from questioning people such
as my mother, father, grandmother and other extended family members. Being an ethnic orphan is
basically saying that whatever traditions and sense of culture we may have had in the past is very
vague for the most part because of assimilation and geographical relocation. Although much is left to

After he went the first time he came home and told me how much fun it had been. It immediately
struck my interest and I started attending the Presbyterian Church as well. Throughout high school and
into college I attended this Presbyterian Church and continued to grow in the Christian religion. Most
of my life I hang on to the beliefs and values that are taught in the Bible, something that molds my
own values and traditions now as an adult.
Importance
of family.
Growing up the importance of family was highly stressed. You must do anything for your family. Even
if it meant doing something wrong. One of the things that my family has both held onto was the
importance of family. The reason I believe that this was highly stressed is because of the breakdown
and the separation of the family. Some families moved to California, Some stayed on the East Coast
and some scattered in between. It was important to hold onto family because we were taught that
family is all we have. When I was 11 ironically my mother and my father got a divorce. It devastated
me, not only was my family torn apart but everything I had been taught about sacrificing for the good
of the family was disregarded at their convenience. Throughout my years as a child and young adult I
have held on to the values that I must still hold onto a strong sense of family. I wanted to do what so
many other family members could not, maintain a lasting marriage. There are many reasons my

Analysis Of Christopher Columbus And Charles Lindbergh
Throughout the school year of 2015 2016 at the Founders Academy, I have wrote numerous essays,
with generally positive results. Several of the essays exceeded expectations, while others reached
expectations to a modest extent, but all of the essays were supported by the writing skills that I had
learned that year, regardless of my strengths or weaknesses with these skills. These techniques vary
extensively, from comparing and contrasting ideas in a text to editing and revising essays for quality
results, which is proven in my writing portfolio.
The first skill of note centers around the proofreading of essays, where an essay receives revisions,
from the reconstruction of paragraphs to the replacement of disinteresting words with intriguing, more
complicated vocabulary. My proof of mastery in this skill is in my essay on Christopher Columbus
and Charles Lindbergh, in addition to my reflection on a project that I had worked on in my
technology class, where I placed complex vocabulary into the essays with my portfolio draft. My
strengths in the skill were that I paid close attention to detail, and added in excessively complex words
to entice the reader. My major flaw, however, is that the process of replacing words is time consuming,
which gives me less time to focus on other issues in my essays, which were often longer than they
needed to be. Fortunately, the constant expansion of essays doubles as a skill, especially when adding
further information to short essays.

There should be separate living conditions by classes so that they can interact with their class year and
their developmental level. They all live together so there is no sense of accountability. A merit based
promotion should be implemented for promotion and rank. The Personal Interpersonal Team
Organizational Model refers to the class year, however, not because you have made the next level it
does not equate to responsibility. If a cadet wants to be a squadron commander then the name should
be thrown in the hat and the selection should be based on accomplishment. The Superintendent s
vision is ridiculous and it has taken two years to fix the Terrazzo. It should not be acceptable in any
state or institution. The living quarters should be changed. Why can t the living facilities be changed?
An airman has more responsibility than a cadet, i.e. alcohol in the dorms. Cadets should be able to

Advantages Of African American Freedom
Freedom is the power to determine action without restraint, and it is the foundation of our lives today.
Every race has the freedom to vote, go to whichever school they choose, take place in office, sit in any
sector of the bus, etc. Around the 1860 s, Northern African Americans had freedom, but unlike today,
their freedom was restricted. In 1850, before the beginning of the civil war, the population census
concluded that fourteen percent of the population was African American. By 1860, 476,000 of them
were free from slavery, but only 221,000 lived in the North. After winning the Revolutionary war the
Northern states gradually began to end slavery and it was officially abolished in 1842. With all factors
in mind, the question of just how free blacks were in the North still lingers in the air. Blacks in the
North were only somewhat free in the years just before the civil war because they endured restrictions
in social, political, and educational areas of society.
To begin with, northern blacks were only somewhat free because they still had to encounter
segregation, discrimination, and prejudice in their social freedom. Although they were free to live,
they had to use restrooms, public areas, schools, etc. that were specifically assigned to their race. An
English Visitor, Charles Mackay, defined his travels by stating, he shall not be free to dine and drink at
our board...to attend us at the bed of sickness and pain to mingle with us in the concert room, the
lecture room, the theatre, or the church, (document B). African Americans were not given the
opportunity to associate with anyone of the white race, nor were they allowed to be in the same
location as them. Since the white race was considered the superior race , and were heavily
discriminant towards the black race, their segregated public facilities were a lot nicer than those of
african americans. Also, prejudice made it harder for black people to attain jobs. In a graduation
speech made by an african american, he proclaimed white boys won t work with me. Shall I be a
merchant? No one will have me in his office (document C). Because of their race, african americans
struggled to get employed. In society, northern blacks had to suffer through

Jewish Christian Relations Essay
While we speak about the tenuous relationship between Christians and Jews dating back to the time of
Christ, the seeds for the schism within Judaism may have been planted more than 500 years prior.
Jeremiah was one of a group of distinguished prophets whose works became part of the Old Testament
canon. The Jewish quot;wisdom quot; prophets lectured, warned and blamed all who would listen
about the sins of their own people, the resulting punishments that God had prescribed for them, and
what they had to do to get back into God s good graces.

quot; The Old Israel along with its Old Testament...had been succeeded, fulfilled, completed, replaced,
and/or displaced by the New Israel, the New Testament, the Christian Church, the new people of God,
quot; said Rabbi A. James Rudin about the Christian attitude during the formative years of the Church
(Fisher, Rudin, Tannebaum 9).
Sensitivity relating to the perceived expiration of the first Mosaic covenant has brought forth a minor
controversy in recent decades about the political correctness of referring to the Old Testament as being
quot;old. quot; Some Catholic Scripture professors express a preference for quot;Hebrew Scriptures,
quot; while others apologetically retain the old reference to prevent confusion. (Pazcuzzi 2/97). The
issue of Judaism having been superceded by Christianity will be addressed at various points in this
paper.
In addition to the writings of Jeremiah, other Old Testament works written in the centuries prior to the
birth Christ pointed to the coming of a messiah to save the Jewish people from their continuing history
of enslavement, persecution, and dislocation. Some Jews waited for a David like king to rescue them.
Others felt that Jesus Christ who had suffered for the sins of his people, the one who had endured and
conquered death was the true messiah. Whether the messiah had come or the messiah was still yet to
come was the key issue between the Jews who remained Jews during the first and succeeding
centuries versus those who

The Succesfull of Community Policing

Solomon Northup Research Paper
Although he was born free, Solomon Northup still became a slave under tough circumstances.
Solomon Northup was born in July of 1808, in Minerva, New York. Solomon was born free due to the
death of his father s, Mintus, owner. His father s owner was named Captain Henry Northup, which is
how Solomon and his father received their last name. While Northup was a child, he had acquired
some education, but mainly worked on his family s farm. In 1828, Solomon married Anne Hampton.
In 1834, he and his wife moved to Saratoga Springs, New York. They later had three children,

back to the slave market due to finances. Northup s second owner was John M. Tibaut who was very

Edwin Epps and was a slave under him for the next ten years. His owner, Edwin Epps, put Solomon in
charge over the rest of the slaves. Solomon tried many times to escape, but was never successful.
Finally, in June of 1852, he was able to send letters to his friends and family back home in New York.
In these letters, he told them where he was and all that had happened to him. In November of 1852,
there was a widespread search in order to find Solomon. Solomon was found in the same year. On
January 4, 1853, Solomon legally obtained total freedom. He was then reunited with his family and
friends. In 1853, Solomon wrote a memoir called Twelve Years a Slave. He could not have done this
without the help of his friend, David Wilson. In the year of 1857, Solomon disappeared from the
public eye. After he disappeared, he then began to help Harriet Tubman with the Underground
Railroad. No one is quite sure how, when, or where Solomon died, On top of not knowing how, when,

Professional Learning Community is not a term I would use to describe my school. The textbook
describes Professional Learning Communities as, ...one that promotes and values learning as an
ongoing, active collaborative process with dynamic dialogue by teachers, students, staff, principal,
parents, and the school community to improve the quality of learning and life within the school
(Roberts Pruitt, 2009 p.6). Based on that description alone, as a school we lack the basic components
of having a collaborative process with dialogue from the teachers, staff, and principal with the focus
on improving the quality of learning. Given all of the research findings and positive reviews on the

Some teachers are naturally hesitant to try new things, but I present the program as a trial run, the
teachers know that if we implement something that s not working we will examine steps to fix it
together. My principal does a great job with this, she listens to the teacher s ideas or suggestions and
will find solutions to any problem. Next, I asked, What are some benefits and challenges of PLCs?
Ms. Alexander paused and thought for a moment, the benefits are that teachers work together with a
purpose, they talk about student learning, and the teachers share the same vision. The challenge is
maintaining consistency across the board and motivating every teacher to stay committed. I have
witnessed the challenge with maintaining consistency on a few occasions at my school. For instance,
teachers were randomly grouped together for a teambuilding activity, in which teachers had to share
with their group members common challenges they face every school year. The group members then
developed a short list of tips or strategies that the teacher could use to remedy whatever challenges
they were facing. As

Class Conflict And Class Conflicts
Class warfare, also referred to as class conflict or class struggle, is a form of social tension caused by
conflicting and competing socioeconomic interests between people of different classes (Zinn, 19).
According to Karl Marx and several scholars, this struggle provides the lever for radical social change
and development. Class conflict comes in many forms: direct and indirect violence such as wars,
starvation, illness and poor working conditions; ideological, such as the production of articles and
books. Moreover, this conflict can take on a political form, which includes swaying government
leaders with enticing offers to fulfill personal or ideological interests. Pre capitalism: Ancient times:

In ancient Greece, the majority (up to 80%) were slaves. Cities were mainly engaged in governmental
operations and the bulk of the economy was agricultural. The slave owners were largely plantation
owners, government officials, philosophers/scholars, all of whom were members of the leisure class
that tended to live in luxury with little in the way of work obligations. As such, slavery was seen as
natural. This view was held mostly by slaves owners but was also accepted by some slaves. They were
ultimately controlled by the institutions and ideals mentioned earlier. The leisure class were also the
subject of these ideals. Because they found physical work to be beneath their natural station, work was
viewed as the lot of the lower classes. In fact, other societies followed in a similar vein. Notably
Rome, who had much stronger institutions, especially those related to law and religion. Feudalism
Much was happening in the world during this period, but it was very different from what was taking
place in feudal Europe. With the fall of the Roman Empire, a social system emerged that was not
founded on slavery. It was hierarchical in form, with free peasants (not slaves) at the bottom and
monarchs and the pope at the top. In between is a list of classes such as lords, earls, dukes, bishops,
and so on. The system was based on a set of relationships between the members. These relationships

The American Psychological Association asserts that there are two parts to identity. One is self
concept , which are the set of beliefs one has about oneself, and include beliefs about one s attributes
(e.g., tall, intelligent), roles and goals (e.g., occupation one wants to have when grown), and interests,
values, and beliefs (e.g., religious, political (15). The other is self esteem, which involves evaluating
how one feels about one s self concept (American Psychological Association 15). All the mistakes
Alice makes serve as learning experiences for her as she figures out that she is, indeed, Alice, and she
also begins to be able to feel better about herself and have higher self esteem as the book nears the
end. Self esteem is generally regarded as the evaluation that persons make about themselves that
express a self judgment about approval, disapproval, and personal worth (Zimmerman, Copeland and
Shope 118). According to the Journal of Youth and Adolescence, an important role that self esteem
plays during adolescence is well documented. As Alice begins to learn how to adapt to the strange

the most gratifying. However even the best planning, tent camping can be an extremely frustrating

Some of the most adventurous campers will lose the enthusiasm on the drive to the campsite if it s
dark and dreary. Campers must set up camp in the downpour as soon as they get to their destination.
Setting up camp includes setting up the tent without getting water or mud on the inside, getting your
sleeping bags situated correctly without getting wet, and keeping the food safe from the rain. If the
sleeping bags happen to get wet, the cold instantly becomes a major factor. Usually a sleeping bag

Why Did The Schlieffen Plan Fail
The Schlieffen Plan The Germans thought that they might have to go to war with Russia. If this would
happen/occur, France would most likely join Russia, considering that she was Russia s ally. This
would mean that Germany would have to fight a two front war, which would be a nightmare. The
Schlieffen Plan was a plan to avoid a war on two fronts against Russia and France. The plan itself
started in 1905 as a thought experiment, but the planning started before the 1900s(1892). The
Schlieffen Plan started the Franco Russian alliance. The obvious solution to the plan was to quickly
beat one country, then focus against the other one. But which country should/did they attack first? The

How Did The Maginot Line Affect International Affairs
The Maginot Line during the period between World War I and World War II changed dramatically and
greatly affected international affairs. In this essay I will attempt to give a descriptive and informative
chronological outline of the creation on the Maginot Line, as well as the residual effects of it and its
outcome on international affairs.
The Maginot Line was named after the French Minister of War AndrƩ Maginot. It was a line of
obstacles, concrete fortifications, and weapon installations that France constructed on the French side
of its borders with Germany, Switzerland, and Luxembourg during the 1930s.
France had suffered damage to both men and building structures in World War I. After Versailles in
1919, there was a clear intention on the part of the French that France should never have to suffer such
a catastrophe again. After 1920, French military favored adopting a military strategy that would
simply put a stop to any form of German invasion again. The responsibility of drawing Europe s post
World War II war borders fell primarily to the Paris Peace Conference of 1919 20. There the victorious
countries positions of power drafted the Treaty of Versailles with Germany. On 28 June 1919, the
peace treaty that ended World War I was signed by Germany and the Allies at the Palace of Versailles
near Paris, France. Allied demands were represented by the Big Three : British Prime Minister, French
Premier, and US President Woodrow Wilson. World War I had destroyed much

Summary Of The Simpsons And Their Mathematical Secrets By...
The Simpsons and Their Mathematical Secrets by Simon Singh is a trade book that talks about the
history of The Simpsons and Futurama and how mathematics is embedded into numerous episodes in
each series. Along the way Singh, in addition to the other main writers for The Simpsons, talk about
many of the subtle math jokes that are present. These jokes range from very simple jokes that students
in elementary school could understand to jokes that not even some mathematics professors with
doctorate degrees can decipher. Singh said that everything that happens to us has some effect on us,
and I do suppose that the time I spent in grad school made me a better writer at the end of the book.
He recalls when he was younger and he was working on numerous projects in mathematics. In
addition to being a bright student, he had the ability to make jokes. Eventually, several famous people
in television such as Johnny Carson and David Letterman noticed this and gave him an in in the

Investigate how PH Affects the Ability of Raw Meat to Absorb Water
I am planning an experiment to investigate how PH affects the ability of raw meat to absorb water.
Ā· Independent Variable
The independent variable for this experiment is the PH of the solution the steak is marinated in. I will
achieve a range of different PH values by using buffers set at PH 1, 3, 5, 7, 9. I predict that there will
be an optimum PH where the steak will absorb the most water.
The amount of water absorbed by the raw meat will increase as you increase the PH up to the
optimum and then decrease the PH as the PH increases past the optimum.
Ā· Dependent Variable
The dependent variable for this experiment is the amount of water absorbed by the diced steak by ...

Instead of calculating the difference in mass, I will calculate percentage change in mass to account for
any small differences in mass.
Also a constant surface area of the diced steak is important, otherwise there would be a larger area for
the solution to act on causing more tenderisation therefore altering the overall results.
The temperature at which the meat is marinated at would need to remain constant. At a higher
temperature, molecules are moving faster therefore osmosis is more likely to occur. The experiment
will be conducted at room temperature, although a more scientific method would be the use of an
incubator. I will conduct the experiment in the same place so that each test is experiencing the same
temperature changes.
The time allowed for marination, each steak should be in the buffer solution for 12 hours all getting
the same length of time otherwise a longer time could provide an opportunity for more water to be
absorbed. Drying of the steak pieces, dab twice on each side. If some are dabbed more than the other it
would alter the end percentage change in mass.
Ā· Method
Ā® Divide the diced steak into five equally sized piles.
Ā® Using electronic scales weigh each pile to make the masses as similar as possible. Record the
masses.
Ā® Add 50ml of buffer solution PH1 to a beaker and repeat the process for the other buffer solutions.
Ā® Put one set of diced steak into each beaker.
Ā® Leave the 5 beakers for 12hours allowing the raw meat to

It s a question the screenwriter and producer Melissa Rosenberg clearly asked herself before

What Is The Colonizer s Model Of The World
The Colonizer s Model of the WorldModel of the World
The fact that the European influence was largely reflected upon world s culture and economy is
indubitably true. Such an impact, that has been deeply rooted inside the world for past several
decades, acknowledged part of its people to notice its clear interference that has been covertly
embedded over time within world s evolution. Blaut reveals the secret of the phenomenon also known
as Eurocentrism Ā¹ in his article. Blaut proposes that Eurocentrism is quite simply the colonizer s model
of the world. Ā². This statement beholds the dominant evidences behind inequal history between
Europeans and the non Europeans that will correspond and clarify colonial events.
Blaut uses different words and phrases to describe what Eurocentrism is and why it is the colonizer s

Europeans over non Europeans ā“, then, he narrows it down to as a set of empirical beliefs āµ which
apparently are not validć…”that is, not confirmed by evidenceā¶. Later, he clarified the meaning into a

Federal Budget Cuts For Domestic Programs And Foreign Aid...
During the activity, I chose federal budget cuts for domestic programs and foreign aid. I cut foreign
aid in half. I do not think that America needs to help the world anymore. We have already helped out a
lot and we should only help towards people that really need it, such as starving Africans, instead of
funding wars overseas. I cut the pay of civilian federal workers by 5 percent. People in the federal
government get paid more and more every year while citizens of our country get paid a lower
minimum wage than a lot of other places in the world. I cut 250,000 government contractors. There
are more contractors than government officials, which means more money spent on a government that
does not fully have the needs of the country in mind. In addition, I chose federal budget cuts for the
military. I reduced the number of troops in Iraq and Afghanistan to 30,000 by 2013. We do not need
the troops in Iraq or Afghanistan anymore. The war is over. Let the country figure out what it needs to
do by itself. We helped create the uprising there, so we can help diminish it by reducing troops. I also
chose federal budget cuts for healthcare. I enacted medical malpractice reform. I think it is important
that our doctors research as much as they can about a procedure or a medicine, so that they can
provide the proper care for a patient and reduce the risk of getting sued.

ROSETTA STONE: PRICING THE 2009 IPO
We are changing the way the world learns languages.

It was mid April 2009. Tom Adams, president and CEO of Rosetta Stone, Inc. (Rosetta
Stone), the language learning software company, reached for his iPhone to contact Phil Clough of
private equity fund ABS Capital. Adams and Clough had been discussing plans to take
Rosetta Stone public for some time. The wait was finally over.
In the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, the market for initial public offerings (IPOs) evaporated. By
early spring the market was showing its first encouraging signs. Just a week prior, Chinese online
videogame developer Changyou.com had listed on the NASDAQ at a price

With the crisis in full swing, investors had flocked to U.S. Treasuries for security, pushing down yields
on these instruments to historic lows (see Exhibit 4). Heightened investor risk aversion had expanded
the risk premium for all securities. The general market risk premium was currently estimated at 6.5%
or 8.5%, respectively, depending on whether long term or short term government yields were used in
estimating the risk free rate.
In February and March of 2009, there had been some evidence of improvement in financial and
economic conditions. Wholesale inventories were in decline. New home sales were beginning to rise.
The equity market had experienced a rally of over 20% in recent weeks. Yet many money managers
and analysts worried that such economic green shoots were only a temporary rally in a longer running
bear market. There was strong concern that the magnitude of government spending would spur
inflation in the U.S. dollar. GDP growth was still negative, corporate bankruptcy rates and
unemployment were at historic highs, and many believed the economic void was just too big for a
quick recovery to be feasible. A Wall Street Journal survey of U.S. economists suggested that the
economy was expected to generate positive growth in the last half of 2009.1 In contrast, a survey of
U.S. corporate executives stated that less than a third of respondents expected to see an economic

How Does Equity Fulfil the Common Law
How Does Equity Fulfill the Common Law Common Law Equity fulfils the common law, although it
does not endeavour to displace it with a moral code. In order to be influential, the law is to be
professed as both certain and predictable, and also flexible and fair. Specifically, it needs clear rules on
the one hand, but flexibility on the other to produce exceptions to cases that lead to apparently
incongruous or unjust conclusions if the rules are applied rigidly. Equity is an essence of principles,
doctrines, and rules advanced initially by the Court of Chancery in positive competition with the rules,
doctrines and principles of the Common Law Courts. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Remedies represent some interesting illustrations of the difference between law and equity; a
difference which arose as; an accident of history, according to Lord Nicholls in A G v Blake.
Ordinarily legal rights and remedies remain separate from equitable ones. Some similarities do,
nevertheless, occur. For illustration, an injunction, an equitable remedy, can be sought for an
anticipatory breach of contract, or to stop a nuisance, both common law claims. In A G v Blake, the
House of Lords authorized the equitable remedy of account of profits for an assertion for violation of
contract where the common law remedy of damages would have been insufficient. The equitable
remedy of account of profits is usually accessible where there is a fiduciary relationship but the House
of Lords endorsed its request otherwise in exceptional cases where it was the operative way to remedy
a wrong. By distinction, in Seager v Copydex, proceedings were brought for breach of confidence in
regard for confidential information exposed by the defendants about a carpet grip. Such a claim is
equitable and normally the equitable remedies of injunction and account are obtainable. On the other
hand, an injunction would have been unsuccessful and he judges awarded damages. It would appear,
consequently that a common law remedy is

Annotated Bibliography of Articles about the American Culture
The authors purpose
Philip DeVita and James Armstrong, the authors of this collection, decided to produce this work for
the purpose of understanding ourselves (the title of the introductory remarks). They start by pointing
out the remarkable freshness Alexis de Tocqueville s observation of America in the mid 19th century
offered at the time. They note that concerns for understanding the other have always interested
anthropologists. And this collection, as they argue, is an attempt to understand America as the other by
looking at American culture, society, politics, intellectual traditions, and attitudes from the
perspectives of outsiders.
DeVita and Armstrong emphasize that it is hard for a social scientist to fully understand the
uniqueness and strangeness of one s culture. Growing up within the culture means accepting one s
cultural assumptions for granted. Being closed to the perspectives only outsiders might have, those
who grow up in American culture fail to ask the kind of questions that may reveal more about
America. And this is where, DeVita and Armstrong argue, the essay collection comes in. They asked
anthropologists from numerous Western and non Western countries to share their experiences of
living, observing, and understanding American culture and society. These outsiders express their
wonder and critical insight for understanding aspects of American life Americans normally would not
otherwise see on their own.
Finally, the authors note they want

The political problems are seen as a long term problem; political problems can also be seen as being
as a main factor that was responsible for the 1905 revolution. Russia was still an autocracy, all power
rested with the Tsar. Other major European states were a democracy and had an elected parliament
that spoke and worked for the people. Political groups began to form, the Social Revolutionaries were

Social Revolutionaries were responsible for over two thousand assassinations, one being the Tsar s

The Social Democrats were another influential political group, formed in 1898 they two were also
willing to use violent methods to achieve their revolutionary aims. The Social Democrats wanted to
turn society around and give power to the workers and peasants of the land. By 1905 the Social

The hotel is only four years old. It has 46 sleeping apartments for visitors and invalids who wish to

this mineral water could be consumed as a health preserving beverage and to bathe in this water
brought relief to those who suffered from many diseases. The curative properties of the waters for
rheumatism and kidney diseases were thoroughly tested and approved by the time the hotel was built.
The idea for this hotel came about because of Reverend J. F. Schierbaum s wife. She was an invalid.
She tried the remedies of the best doctors in St. Louis, but failed to get relief. Then trying the waters
of Okawville, she was restored to perfect health. She persuaded her husband, the pastor at St. Peter s

Muslim Minorities Security in OIC Member States
Muslim Minorities Security in OIC Member States
Division within the Muslim world did not begin until after the death of the Prophet Muhammad. It
arose in the form of political uncertainty about who would be the next leader of the Muslim
community after the death of the Prophet. One group of thinkers, who came to be known as Shiites
(Shia meaning faction in Arabic), believed that authority in the Muslim world should stay within the
family of the Prophet, and so pointed to Ali and his son Husayn, Muhammad s close relatives. Another
group, known as Sunnis, believed that the person most worthy to lead should become the caliph, no
matter his bloodline (Strayer 423). Over the centuries, this Sunni/Shiite divide only widened. Several
Shiite rebellions mainly failures invested them with an ideology that their dead leaders were simply
hiding, leading them to develop the belief in the Hidden, or Twelfth, Imam who would one day return
and set right the Shiites problems with the Sunnis (Strayer 423). Other minor differences exist in the
two groups ideology, with Shiites placing weight just on the teachings of Muhammad and his
descendants, whereas the Sunnis recognize works from other influential early Muslim leaders. Several
subdivisions exist within Shia Islam; their differences exist in how many imams throughout history
they recognize as legitimate. One major offshoot of Sunni Islam Wahhabism originated in the
teachings, military state building, and reformist tendencies

The Value Of A Medium Of Exchange
A medium of exchange, a unit of account and a store of value are money s three primary economic
functions.
First and foremost, money acts as a medium of exchange when it is used to negotiate the exchange of
goods and services. It also keeps away from the barter system s wastefulness like the dependence on
the occurrence of a coincidence of wants. A medium of exchange must possess a stable purchasing
power in order for it to be accepted worldwide. Hence, it must be divisible, transportable,
recognizable, have constant utility, valuation of common assets, low cost of preservation, high market
value in relation to volume and weight and most of all, resistance to counterfeiting. The most famous
medium of exchange back then was gold since it was dormant. Even small amounts of gold had
considerable value which made gold user friendly. Men cherished gold because it also had a constant
value due to its special physical and chemical properties.
The standard numerical unit of measuring goods and services market value is simply known as unit of
account. It is mandatory for forming commercial agreements. In order for money to function as a unit
of account, it must be divisible into smaller units without a loss of value, fungible, and have a specific
weight, measure or size in order to be verifiable countable.
Lastly, money must be able to be reliably stored, saved and retrieved in order for it to function as a
store of value. Likewise, it must be usable as a medium of

Also, there is a 45 percent reduction of lower back pain for those who practice cognitive behavioral

data collected for this study was based on an experiment. In other words, in order to prove that the

Rabin does implies that there is a causal association between the variables by expressing that

Design Of An Optimized Compressive Sensing
Abstract This paper presents the design of an optimized Compressive Sensing (CS) based image
compression technique for data transmission over mobile wireless noisy channel. The proposed
technique is more robust to channel noise. It uses individual measurement driven coding scheme,
which facilitates simpler encoder design. The shift of computational burden from encoder to decoder
is more suitable for mobile devices applications where computational power and battery life are
limited. This paper also presents a novel quantizer which allows the encoder to dynamically adapt to
the channel conditions and provide optimum performance.

I. INTRODUCTION
Wireless spectrum is becoming increasingly scarce as more and more mobile devices are being used
with new innovations to support multimedia applications. The evolution of new applications is further
eroding the ability to make spectrum available to ever increasing mobile users [1]. The design of
mobile devices for inclusion of new and evolving multimedia applications faces big challenges due to:
a) limited power supply from battery; b) wireless transmission impairments for sustained video
transmissions; and c) limited CPU capability in each device. Thus data compression for wireless
networks is becoming more and more important. This research takes image as a sample multimedia
data type to explore the necessary improvement. Traditional image

My Special Place Essay
Words like cozy, calm, and memories can be used to describe my special place. A special place
depends on the individual you are referring to. To me a special place allows the person to be happy
and sad at the same place. This is where all realms of memories are made, allowing the individual to
be able to reflect on them when entering that special atmosphere. In the warm summers I sit in our
lawn with my dog as the cool wind blows, a feeling falls over me thinking about why I love my home
and property so much and that I m so very thankful to have it. I zone out for hours thinking about all
the time that I have spent there with my family and friends. While I never regret any of the memories I
have made, I cherish all of them and hold them close to my heart. When an individual says a word like
cozy one may think about fuzzy slipper or something soft that you would wear, but it could also mean

how I want to speak. This is where I find peace when I don t want to go out with others, it gives me a
sense of reassurance that it s okay to be alone. Calm. That word doesn t refer to a lot of things in my
life, and yes, my special place can be chaotic, but you still get that sense of feeling of serenity and
peace and quiet; even when there are a million things going on. Picture this, walking into a huge
Christmas party at your house and there are tons of people there, but only you are able to focus on the
small things that not even half of the guests notice. While this is going on you feel peace through it all;
and never once feel anxiety or overwhelmed because of the comfort of

Fetus Should Not Have Rights
The fetus cannot possibly have rights because the fetus cannot be determine as a complete human and
no statics can back up 100% when human life begins without a doubt. We all assume we know but we
don t. It s our own opinion; therefore, we cannot determine the laws and rights on our opinion but we
can determine it on the fact that the mother is a human begin and has lived up the life. Besides the
fetus depends on the mother at all time during the pregnancy and after birth. The mother is the one
who is going to have to feed the child, clothes the child and change the child s diapers. The child
could not possibly do all of those things by itself; therefore, the child depends 100% at all times on the
mother. That is why the mother deserves those rights and need safety procedures if she decides to ...

Therefore, it is only right for the mother to have the right to determine what it is she wants without all
the negative perspective. No one is pointing fingers and saying it is anyone s fault, life happens that s
it. Of course the innocent unborn child should not have to pay for the crime of another but why should
the woman be remind every single day of what happened due to having the child. Not to mention why
would anyone want to be a child of a rapist or incest, also genetic runs deep who knows what if the
innocent child was to grow up and become its father the rapist or incest and repeat history, are pro life
supporters willing to take that risk and let that happen to someone else because that one would be on
them. Yes it is the state s reasonability to protect the rights of its citizens but the fetus is unborn
therefore it cannot possibly be a citizen. Abortion is legal because the government wants to protect the
rights of the woman and let them have a safe procedure instead of putting them at risk. Sure abortion
is murder but that isn t for pro life to determine what should happen to the

The Education System Is A Revolving Door That Constantly...
The education system is a revolving door that constantly changes as time progresses. Unfortunately, a
major observation is the lack of effectiveness the traditional learning approach has on students. I ve
taken ten expert opinions from various academic articles to showcase different approaches to improve
the education system. Some of these approaches include teacher evaluation, ample courses, and
student access to higher technology. The education system will not improve until the student s needs
are a priority instead of regulation fulfillment. With these provided suggestions, the educational
system has ample room for growth and further development.
A study conducted by the Abell Foundation which looked over fifty years of ... Show more content on

The antidote to this problem brings me to my next approach which is a teacher development program.
From 2004 to 2007 an observation among teachers nation wide was conducted to analyze instructional
practices; in other words, known as a teacher development program. One third of the programs had
well developed evaluations and produced positive effects on student achievement and instructional
practice. Though inadequate teachers shouldn t be educating at all, this program measures change in
teaching practices simultaneously benefiting the students and fulfilling the need for a teacher in the
classroom.
Another alternative to faulty teaching is collaborative teaching. In 2015, over 9,000 teachers in 336
schools were analyzed based on their instruction as a team. The higher the grade level the more
rigorous the material becomes making it harder for teachers to collaborate effectively. It was found
that teachers and schools that collaborate make better strides in math and science particularly in
elementary schools. According to the saying the more the merrier , a group of collaborative teachers is
more beneficial than one single teacher. . This program should be implemented in elementary school
giving students the maximum academic benefit from a young age.
Implementing the STEM curriculum at a young age is another option also beneficial to school
students. STEM is an integrated curriculum that stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and

The Impact Of Profitability And Efficiency On Each Other
Formerly discovered, efficiency and profitability are positively correlated. Hence, when the
profitability of banks ameliorates their efficiency improve along. In contrast to Shaffnit et al. (1997),
the impact of profitability and efficiency on each other is trivial (Akmal and Saleem, 2008). Initially,
once we come across the study of banking efficiency, what usually pops into the heads is; why the
efficiency of banks matters to managers, regulators, shareholders, and consumers. The reply to the
above query is diverse for each of them as it relies on their standpoints (Kumar and Gulati, 2008).
Source: Kumar and Gulati, 2008
Figure 12: Importance of Efficient Banks from Different Viewpoints
By definition, a bank is said to be efficient if it is capable of generating more outputs like loans and
investments using lesser inputs like capital and labor expenses (Staub et al. 2010). Yue (1992) stated
that a firm is categorized as efficient in either of the two cases: if it generates equal output level using
lesser inputs or if it generates more outputs using equal or lesser inputs. And by maintaining the
control over the delivery expenses banks become further efficient (PWC, 2012). In contrast to
inefficient banks, efficient ones are more capable of contesting owing to their inferior operational
expenses (Kumar and Gulati, 2008). In general, banks that perform better than others display higher
degrees of capitalization (Tecles and Tabak, 2010). But when

Three Day Road Wandering Windigo of the Wemistikoshiw The novel Three Day Road can be viewed as an explicit indicator as to the importance of sustaining cultural identity, and the consequences associated with its absence from any aspect of human life. The tale provides a salient setting through which this spiritual malfeasance is brought about, with much of its content consisting of the supremacy of the wemistikoshiw, or white man, over the Aboriginals in World War 1. The novel s European setting manifests the primary cause for the spiritual bankruptcy of Elijah Weesacheejak, one of the story s central figures and the novel s primary thematic microcosm. Influenced deeply by Western ideals, he is said to be a windigo which, as explained by the aboriginal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An objectivist to the core, Niska represents an archetype of cultural wisdom, as described by Joseph Boyden: I wanted her to be a strong woman who was doing this [being a woman of the bush] despite what everyone says about her and the toughness of her existence... (Wylie 229). Niska is exposed to the horrors of the world at an early age, witnessing events such as her father s murder of one of her fellow Cree gone windigo (Boyden 45). This coupled with her being used sexually by the Frenchman, who claimed to have ...fucked ahcahk, [her] spirit (174), out of lustful capitalism creates a perfect storm of familiarity with the human condition within her. Niska realizes that the man made society of the whites further pronounces the flaws of the human spirit, thereby differentiating between her culture and that of the wemistikoshiw. She explains this difference early on in the novel, by way of her epileptic visions: No one is safe in such times, not even the Cree of the Mushkegowuk. War touches everyone, and windigos spring from the earth (49). • 4. Summa Contra Gentiles By Thomas Aquinas In his book, Summa Contra Gentiles, Thomas Aquinas initiates his consideration of divine nature as he explores and reflects upon some of the most challenging questions surrounding Catholicism. Specifically, he focuses on the essence and the existence of God as to provide insight into the natural ends of human life. Therefore, his consideration and analysis of central Catholic beliefs allows Catholics to better understand their position as members of a larger structure of human existence. This paper will analyze the simplicity and existence of divine nature, through an examination of human wisdom and divine assistance. Before Aquinas begins his consideration of God s divine essence, he discusses the necessity of wisdom in coming to truly understand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He speaks to the human desire for happiness, which he defines as the fullness of being. However, he asserts that we cannot achieve this alone. We require God s grace. This idea is supported by the text when Aquinas states: For the means must be proportionate to the end: if then man is ordained to an end transcending his natural capacities, he must be furnished with some supernatural assistance from heaven, enabling him to tend to that end. (SCG 3.148) Here, Aquinas suggests that grace perfects nature without distorting it. Accordingly, man was created to be dependent on his creator and what he provides. This is significant as it implies that man is not able to derive his own holiness from his will, as in accordance with Pelagian belief. Therefore, much of God s goodness originates from His willingness to help man get what he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Rise Of Nazi Germany Was The Capstone Of The Inter-War The rise of Nazi Germany was the capstone of the inter war period, and led to the outbreak of World War II, shattering the tenuous peace. The Nazi regime s progress was paralleled by the life of its leader, Adolf Hitler. Born in a small town in Austria, Hitler dreamed of being an artist. Unable to demonstrate sufficient artistic skill for entrance into the art academy in Vienna, he did odd jobs and developed an interest in politics. In 1914, Hitler joined the German army, and earned the iron cross for bravery as a message carrier. He was immensely disturbed by the German defeat in World War I, and blamed the loss on the socialists and Jews, who he said had surrendered the nation. In 1920, Hitler seized control in the German Workers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On February 27, 1933, the Reichstag building burned down and a retarded Dutch boy claiming he worked for the communists was arrested for arson. There is evidence to prove that the Nazis themselves had set the fire, but in any case, Hitler used the incident to persuade Hindenburg to restrict all individual rights and declare that the central government could oust any state government failing to maintain order. Hitler systematically took control of all of the state governments this way. Hitler s private army, the S.A., roamed the streets terrorizing political opponents. Even so, the Nazis only won 43.9 percent of the vote in 1933. To gain a two thirds majority Hitler formed an alliance with the Nationalist party, and declared the communist party illegal. On March 23, 1933, the Reichstag passed the Enabling Act, giving Hitler the power to make decrees with the status of law, and ending elections. When Hindenburg died in 1934, Hitler fused the positions of chancellor and president into one office: Der Fuhrer. He took control as dictator. Hitler constructed the Third Reich under his dictatorship, using the Gestapo, the secret police, to stifle all dissent. There are many explanations for why Hitler was able to come to power in Germany. The first focuses on the evil genius of Hitler himself. He was a master of demagoguery, practicing his ... • 7. The Plato of the Apology Western philosophy, beginning with the dialogues of Plato, is premised upon both the rejection of the artform of tragedy and the rejection of experiences and events considered to be tragic. This general and far reaching exclusion of the tragic originates from Plato s dissension made in The Republic of the normative claims defined by nearly all tragic and epic poetry regarding the question of how a human being should live. Tragedy, merely by being tragedy, expresses the following evaluative commitments regarding human life: One, events beyond the agent s control have the ability to play a major role in her ability to lead an ethical and moral life. Two, tragedy validates forming emotional attachments to people and objects beyond the agent s control. And three, sympathy, fear, and pity for the tragic hero demonstrate the recognition of certain ethical truths, truths which may be applied to everyday life of the audience members. Plato flatly denies all three of these claims. The Plato of The Apology states that a good person cannot be harmed. The good person is self sufficient. Both uncontrollable events and the fate of external objects or people have no effect on the virtuous person. She remains virtuous no matter the circumstances. Additionally, returning to The Republic, Plato denies the cognitive value of emotions. Thinking connected to the emotions necessarily focuses on the immediate, the finite, and the uncontrollable, and, therefore, the false. Poetry must be banned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One thing these diseases have in common is that the person affected will lose more and more muscle as they age. Those who possess a muscular dystrophy disease usually have more fat mass than those who are healthy (GuzmĆ”n, GarcĆa, RodrĆguez Cruz, 2012). Imaging tests can show how much muscle has been replaced with fat. The symptoms may seem obvious for muscular dystrophy. When muscles degenerate, they cannot be used at the fullest potential. The earliest symptom may be delayed walking in children (Bushby et al., 2009). A reduction in size and strength of muscle is another sign that muscles could be degenerating. Most of my life I hang on to the beliefs and values that are taught in the Bible, something that molds my own values and traditions now as an adult. Importance of family. Growing up the importance of family was highly stressed. You must do anything for your family. Even if it meant doing something wrong. One of the things that my family has both held onto was the importance of family. The reason I believe that this was highly stressed is because of the breakdown and the separation of the family. Some families moved to California, Some stayed on the East Coast and some scattered in between. It was important to hold onto family because we were taught that family is all we have. When I was 11 ironically my mother and my father got a divorce. It devastated me, not only was my family torn apart but everything I had been taught about sacrificing for the good of the family was disregarded at their convenience. • 10. Analysis Of Christopher Columbus And Charles Lindbergh Throughout the school year of 2015 2016 at the Founders Academy, I have wrote numerous essays, with generally positive results. Several of the essays exceeded expectations, while others reached expectations to a modest extent, but all of the essays were supported by the writing skills that I had learned that year, regardless of my strengths or weaknesses with these skills. These techniques vary extensively, from comparing and contrasting ideas in a text to editing and revising essays for quality results, which is proven in my writing portfolio. The first skill of note centers around the proofreading of essays, where an essay receives revisions, from the reconstruction of paragraphs to the replacement of disinteresting words with intriguing, more complicated vocabulary. My proof of mastery in this skill is in my essay on Christopher Columbus and Charles Lindbergh, in addition to my reflection on a project that I had worked on in my technology class, where I placed complex vocabulary into the essays with my portfolio draft. My strengths in the skill were that I paid close attention to detail, and added in excessively complex words to entice the reader. My major flaw, however, is that the process of replacing words is time consuming, which gives me less time to focus on other issues in my essays, which were often longer than they needed to be. Fortunately, the constant expansion of essays doubles as a skill, especially when adding further information to short essays. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Advantages Of African American Freedom Freedom is the power to determine action without restraint, and it is the foundation of our lives today. Every race has the freedom to vote, go to whichever school they choose, take place in office, sit in any sector of the bus, etc. Around the 1860 s, Northern African Americans had freedom, but unlike today, their freedom was restricted. In 1850, before the beginning of the civil war, the population census concluded that fourteen percent of the population was African American. By 1860, 476,000 of them were free from slavery, but only 221,000 lived in the North. After winning the Revolutionary war the Northern states gradually began to end slavery and it was officially abolished in 1842. With all factors in mind, the question of just how free blacks were in the North still lingers in the air. Blacks in the North were only somewhat free in the years just before the civil war because they endured restrictions in social, political, and educational areas of society. To begin with, northern blacks were only somewhat free because they still had to encounter segregation, discrimination, and prejudice in their social freedom. Although they were free to live, they had to use restrooms, public areas, schools, etc. that were specifically assigned to their race. An English Visitor, Charles Mackay, defined his travels by stating, he shall not be free to dine and drink at our board...to attend us at the bed of sickness and pain to mingle with us in the concert room, the lecture room, the theatre, or the church, (document B). African Americans were not given the opportunity to associate with anyone of the white race, nor were they allowed to be in the same location as them. Since the white race was considered the superior race , and were heavily discriminant towards the black race, their segregated public facilities were a lot nicer than those of african americans. Also, prejudice made it harder for black people to attain jobs. In a graduation speech made by an african american, he proclaimed white boys won t work with me. Shall I be a merchant? No one will have me in his office (document C). Because of their race, african americans struggled to get employed. In society, northern blacks had to suffer through ... Jeremiah was one of a group of distinguished prophets whose works became part of the Old Testament canon. The Jewish quot;wisdom quot; prophets lectured, warned and blamed all who would listen about the sins of their own people, the resulting punishments that God had prescribed for them, and what they had to do to get back into God s good graces. In addition to the writings of Jeremiah, other Old Testament works written in the centuries prior to the birth Christ pointed to the coming of a messiah to save the Jewish people from their continuing history of enslavement, persecution, and dislocation. Some Jews waited for a David like king to rescue them. Others felt that Jesus Christ who had suffered for the sins of his people, the one who had endured and conquered death was the true messiah. The temperature at which the meat is marinated at would need to remain constant. At a higher temperature, molecules are moving faster therefore osmosis is more likely to occur. The experiment will be conducted at room temperature, although a more scientific method would be the use of an incubator. I will conduct the experiment in the same place so that each test is experiencing the same temperature changes. A Wall Street Journal survey of U.S. economists suggested that the economy was expected to generate positive growth in the last half of 2009.1 In contrast, a survey of U.S. corporate executives stated that less than a third of respondents expected to see an economic upturn in 2009.2 The ... • 30. How Does Equity Fulfil the Common Law How Does Equity Fulfill the Common Law Common Law Equity fulfils the common law, although it does not endeavour to displace it with a moral code. In order to be influential, the law is to be professed as both certain and predictable, and also flexible and fair. Specifically, it needs clear rules on the one hand, but flexibility on the other to produce exceptions to cases that lead to apparently incongruous or unjust conclusions if the rules are applied rigidly. Equity is an essence of principles, doctrines, and rules advanced initially by the Court of Chancery in positive competition with the rules, doctrines and principles of the Common Law Courts. The ... Remedies represent some interesting illustrations of the difference between law and equity; a difference which arose as; an accident of history, according to Lord Nicholls in A G v Blake. Ordinarily legal rights and remedies remain separate from equitable ones. Some similarities do, nevertheless, occur. For illustration, an injunction, an equitable remedy, can be sought for an anticipatory breach of contract, or to stop a nuisance, both common law claims. In A G v Blake, the House of Lords authorized the equitable remedy of account of profits for an assertion for violation of contract where the common law remedy of damages would have been insufficient. The equitable remedy of account of profits is usually accessible where there is a fiduciary relationship but the House of Lords endorsed its request otherwise in exceptional cases where it was the operative way to remedy a wrong. By distinction, in Seager v Copydex, proceedings were brought for breach of confidence in regard for confidential information exposed by the defendants about a carpet grip. Such a claim is equitable and normally the equitable remedies of injunction and account are obtainable. On the other hand, an injunction would have been unsuccessful and he judges awarded damages. It would appear, consequently that a common law remedy is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Annotated Bibliography of Articles about the American Culture The authors purpose Philip DeVita and James Armstrong, the authors of this collection, decided to produce this work for the purpose of understanding ourselves (the title of the introductory remarks). They start by pointing out the remarkable freshness Alexis de Tocqueville s observation of America in the mid 19th century offered at the time. They note that concerns for understanding the other have always interested anthropologists. And this collection, as they argue, is an attempt to understand America as the other by looking at American culture, society, politics, intellectual traditions, and attitudes from the perspectives of outsiders. DeVita and Armstrong emphasize that it is hard for a social scientist to fully understand the uniqueness and strangeness of one s culture. Growing up within the culture means accepting one s cultural assumptions for granted. Being closed to the perspectives only outsiders might have, those who grow up in American culture fail to ask the kind of questions that may reveal more about America. And this is where, DeVita and Armstrong argue, the essay collection comes in. They asked anthropologists from numerous Western and non Western countries to share their experiences of living, observing, and understanding American culture and society. These outsiders express their wonder and critical insight for understanding aspects of American life Americans normally would not otherwise see on their own. Finally, the authors note they want ... The curative properties of the waters for rheumatism and kidney diseases were thoroughly tested and approved by the time the hotel was built. The idea for this hotel came about because of Reverend J. It arose in the form of political uncertainty about who would be the next leader of the Muslim community after the death of the Prophet. One group of thinkers, who came to be known as Shiites (Shia meaning faction in Arabic), believed that authority in the Muslim world should stay within the family of the Prophet, and so pointed to Ali and his son Husayn, Muhammad s close relatives. Another group, known as Sunnis, believed that the person most worthy to lead should become the caliph, no matter his bloodline (Strayer 423). Over the centuries, this Sunni/Shiite divide only widened. Several Shiite rebellions mainly failures invested them with an ideology that their dead leaders were simply hiding, leading them to develop the belief in the Hidden, or Twelfth, Imam who would one day return and set right the Shiites problems with the Sunnis (Strayer 423). • 36. The Value Of A Medium Of Exchange A medium of exchange, a unit of account and a store of value are money s three primary economic functions. First and foremost, money acts as a medium of exchange when it is used to negotiate the exchange of goods and services. It also keeps away from the barter system s wastefulness like the dependence on the occurrence of a coincidence of wants. A medium of exchange must possess a stable purchasing power in order for it to be accepted worldwide. Hence, it must be divisible, transportable, recognizable, have constant utility, valuation of common assets, low cost of preservation, high market value in relation to volume and weight and most of all, resistance to counterfeiting. The most famous medium of exchange back then was gold since it was dormant. Even small amounts of gold had considerable value which made gold user friendly. Men cherished gold because it also had a constant value due to its special physical and chemical properties. The standard numerical unit of measuring goods and services market value is simply known as unit of account. It is mandatory for forming commercial agreements. In order for money to function as a unit of account, it must be divisible into smaller units without a loss of value, fungible, and have a specific weight, measure or size in order to be verifiable countable. Design Of An Optimized Compressive Sensing Abstract This paper presents the design of an optimized Compressive Sensing (CS) based image compression technique for data transmission over mobile wireless noisy channel. The proposed technique is more robust to channel noise. It uses individual measurement driven coding scheme, which facilitates simpler encoder design. The shift of computational burden from encoder to decoder is more suitable for mobile devices applications where computational power and battery life are limited. This paper also presents a novel quantizer which allows the encoder to dynamically adapt to the channel conditions and provide optimum performance. Keywords compressive sensing; coding with feedback; image transmission; quantization I. INTRODUCTION Wireless spectrum is becoming increasingly scarce as more and more mobile devices are being used with new innovations to support multimedia applications. The evolution of new applications is further eroding the ability to make spectrum available to ever increasing mobile users [1]. The design of mobile devices for inclusion of new and evolving multimedia applications faces big challenges due to: a) limited power supply from battery; b) wireless transmission impairments for sustained video transmissions; and c) limited CPU capability in each device. Thus data compression for wireless networks is becoming more and more important. This research takes image as a sample multimedia data type to explore the necessary improvement. Traditional image ... To me a special place allows the person to be happy and sad at the same place.
