Gram Staining Procedure Lab Report
Purpose:
The purpose of this lab is to identify a given unknown based on the previous experiment and lab
techniques that we have learned during this course. It was achieved, by preparing a gram staining
procedure, to help us identify the morphology of the bacteria, and to prepare a various of different test,
such as the starch test, oxidase, urease, citrate, MSA, Nitrate Reduction and MP/VP to help us identify
if the bacteria is able to produce the specific catabolism that it being testes for.
Procedure:
Gram Staining Gram Staining is a procedure used to distinguish between gram positive and gram
negative bacteria, where one of the main differences is the cell wall. Gram positive bacteria contain
multiple layers of peptidoglycans and gram negative lacks of peptidoglycans in the cell wall. Overall,
is a short procedure that consists of the following steps: first apply the primary stain (crystal violet),
second apply the mordant (Gram s iodine), third apply decolorizing agent (ethanol or ethanol acetone)
and finally apply secondary stain (safranin). Another purpose of gram staining is to determine the
bacteria s morphology. In gram positive bacteria, the stain retains the dye ... Show more content on

According to (Case, 1946) urea is a waste product of protein digestion in vertebrates and is excreted in
the urine. The presence of urea liberates ammonia from urea which is helpful in identifying bacteria.
The pH of a medium urea is about 6.8 or below, if tested positive, the pH will have an increase to
about 8.4 or above causing the solution to go from a yellow color to a hot pink color, this is mainly
due to the ammonia produced. This experiment is done by following the lab of Preparation of Smears.
Unknown 3, showed a change from a yellowish solution to a hot pink color, helping to concluded that
it tested positive to having a pH of 8.4 or above and able to liberate

The New York Times Article Invisible Child From The...
Within the confines of this text will be explored the New York Times article invisible child in the
shadows Dasani s Homeless life. Dasani s life will be examined through the lenses of five different
theories. The five approaches will be, Health and wealth connection theory, cognitive theory,
psychoanalytic theory, attachment theory, and relational theory. To be summed up in the end with the
conclusion.
The Health and Wealth connection distilled is our health will most commonly reflect from our amount
of wealth. The wealthy can afford the cost of quality care and the time to take care of themselves.
Within the textbook, Dimensions of Human Behavior Hutchison writes. Public health experts have
long noted the association of poor clinical outcomes, in all body systems, with low income, low
education, unsanitary housing, poor healthcare, on stable employment, and uncertain physical
environment (Hutchison, 2015). Easily demonstrated throughout American society the rather dubious
and is a somewhat perplexing phenomenon of the Health and Wealth connection theory. The gap
between the haves and have nots are ever expanding. Those who have the funding to pay for resources
will pay to get those resources. And those who do not have sufficient funds to pay for said resources
will, unfortunately, have to stand in the long lines to receive seemingly, deceptively, scarce resources.
Looking at Dasani through the ever changing and expanding the theory of the Health and Wealth

United States Navy s Bomb Squad
Introduction
The United States Navy s Bomb Squad (NEOD) is a remarkably small organization that works in
small teams to accomplish worldly tasks. These obstacles range from IED to chemical and biological
weapon disarmament. The Bomb Squad is responsible for operations in war zones, as well as on the
home front. With intentions of generating a more informed populous at the United States Naval
Academy, a U.S. Navy Bomb Squad liaison along with numerous personnel, facilitated an 18 hour
screener for interested personnel possibly accessing into the organization. I was fortunate enough to
observe the entire innovative learning intervention and in this paper I will give a brief background,
nature of the learning activity, intended ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also need to be in good physical shape, the bomb suit that they don during combat weighs 100
lbs. alone. It costs approximately $150, 000 to fully train a U.S. Navy Bomb Squad member, and in
prior years, the only observation made on the individual was a college transcript review (USNA
NEOD screener instruction, 2015). The organization realized this problem and implemented a very
innovative endeavor, in which individuals would be taught about the organization, screened for
accession, and a few would be selected to begin training after graduating from the U.S. Naval
Academy. The screener began at 3 pm on November 6th and concluded at 9 am on November 7th. It
was held at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD utilizing various facilities from swimming
pools to classrooms. It was a very informative, physical, and grueling process for all involved, yet
yielded commendable results.
Nature of the learning activity
The U.S. Navy s Bomb Squad faced a very real problem: Its newest members were being selected for
training upon merit alone, with no personality or physical screening process. This was a very real
challenge, for the aforementioned reasons of required emotional intelligence and physical toughness.
The screener had a very clear mission: safely and effectively screen Midshipmen in their ability to
lead small units under stress while introducing them to the NEOD training pipeline through evaluation
by their peers, upper class, and NEOD technicians

Geography Of The Indian Subcontinent
Geography of the Indian subcontinent influenced the development of civilization there greatly,
because of how diverse India is. The geography of the Indian subcontinent had a big affect not only
with the development of civilization, but on economics, religion and social order as well. The Indian
subcontinent is diverse in many ways, such as the array of languages, as well as the reputation of
being a cradle of religion which created two of the world s major religions, Hinduism and
Buddhism(p. 38). For example, in civilizations such as the Harappan civilization the political and
social structures were affected by the geography of where their civilization resided. In several
respects, Harappan civilization closely resembled the cultures of Mesopotamia and the Nile Valley (p.
39). The resemblance resembled closely, because of how the civilizations probably started out being
farming villages and slowly grew into a large city. The city that was considered the center of power
was the city of Harappa. The city of Harappa was surrounded by a brick wall over 40 feet thick at its
base and more than 3.5 miles in circumference (p. 39). With this city of power archaeological
evidence suggest that the social structures were a loose confederation made up of more than 1500
cities connected by commerce and trade alliances and ruled by the wealthy merchants and landlords.
The economy of this era was primary based on agriculture such as, wheat barley, rice, and peas being

I Was Watching A Movie Last Night
I have always exercised a bit of a peculiar habit while watching movies. I often do not watch the main
characters. I frequently discover myself observing the extras, the nobodies on the screen. I examine
their faces, their expressions, and their hand motions. I notice the way they hold themselves and am
conscious of the way they respond to the words spoken by the protagonists, antagonists and
supporting characters of the film. As I was watching a movie last night, I thought to myself, Perhaps
the accounts of the nobodies are yet more fascinating than the anecdote s of the characters. I then
proceeded to realize how insane I sounded, they re just actors who are told how to react and what their
expressions need to be. My mind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

displayed thousands of pictures. He shook his head as he touched the round globe. A tear escaped from
his eye. The elderly man did this a few hundred times in a row. The board then switched; different
pictures appeared, yet he did the same thing. The oddest occurrence took place next: he looked at me,
and acknowledged I was near him. Hello, dear. He said, his voice faint and whispery. Hi. I answer.
You wear a very curious expression. Observed the man, Tell me, what is it you would like to know?
Quite a few questions jumped into focus. I stood quietly, trying to decide in what order to ask them.
Who are you? I decided to start with a cliché, and bit generic, question. They re easy to answer. I am

Logos Compare And Contrast Essay
In backpacks vs briefcase logos is defined as ... argument from reason, and it usually appeals to an
audience s intellectual side. As audiences we want to know the facts of the matter, and logos helps
present these statistics, data, and logical statements. This article explains that not only does logos

How Did The Homefront Experience During Ww2
The Home Front Experience The home front experience during World War II did not expand the
freedoms and opportunities available to Americans. The Japanese Americans were treated horribly in
camps. African American were being discriminated. After soldiers came back from the war, they
couldn t find jobs. Even though the women were working, while the men were fighting in the war,
they were being discriminated. To being with, the homefront experience during World War II did not
expand the freedoms and opportunities available to Americans because the Japanese Americans were
treated terribly and awfully in concentration camps. The Japanese Americans were sent to camps
because of the Executive order 9066, which was signed and issued by President Franklin D.
Roosevelt, made 100,000 Japanese American homes seized and imprisoned in internment camps.

Key Bank History
The second location on this tour is The National Commercial Bank, now known as Key Bank. When
the bank first established in November 25, 1838, under the general banking act it was simply known
as the Commercial Bank. It wasn t until June 13, 1864 that the bank was recognized as a national bank
and renamed The National Commercial Bank. Before the bank existed, New York only had three key
banks: the City Bank of Albany, New York State Bank and the Mechanics and Farmer Bank. As
Albany city began growing, citizens realized that these three banks weren t enough to meet the
economic demands of Albany. As a result, citizens began petitioning for another bank.
Once the new bank was granted to the city of Albany, there were still many legal aspects ... Show

Its motto was Bravely, Faithfully, Felicitously and these three words described the manner in which
the bank fulfilled its obligation. There have been three major incident where the National Bank has
proven itself to its people. The first was in 1838, a year after the economic panic of 1837. The
economic panic led to the suspension of specie payments (coined money). However when the New
York banks decided to resume specie payment (coined money), the National Bank was able to resume
four months before the other New York City banks. The second incident was in 1862 when the bank
voluntarily came to the relief of the state. The President called for 300,000 to enlist, but there was not
enough money in the state treasury to pay the enlisted men s bounties (sum paid to those who enlist).
As a result, the bank loaned 3,500,000 without security. The bank made this loan because they trusted
that the legislature would eventually re pay them. Finally the third incident was in the 1893 economic
panic. When the panic grew worse the bank permitted the withdrawal of up to $800,000 by the state
without any delays. The National Commercial Bank not only had a great economic influence, but they
also held a prestigious image within the public. Most of their president where also political figures.
For example, the second president of the bank was once the mayor of Albany. During the years the
bank was open it underwent many remodeling such as installation of glass roof in the banking room
and mosaic flooring. In the end the bank left a legacy of being the handsomest business structure in

Romeo And Juliet Last Scene Essay
I chose the last scene of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the death scene of Romeo after he
sees Juliet die , as the material I wanted to transform using Grotowski s influence for my solo theatre
piece . I felt that this particular scene really involved the use of raw emotion. The general tone of this
particular scene is quite somber and dark, as Romeo sees his loved one dead , and there is an overall
sense of longing as Romeo relives the moments him and Juliet shared together, as well as longing for
their once strong bond and her presence. I decided to write my own monologue from Romeo s
perspective based on the scene, and to preserve the main ideas and story of the scene to a large extent,
whilst tweaking the original content ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After doing so I decided to take a slightly different perspective on the scene, where as well as
outlining the despair of Romeo and the longing he feels for Juliet, I would outline other feelings not
explored in the actual scene such as the regret (and possible short term satisfaction) he felt in killing
Tybalt and Paris who he felt were tearing them apart. Because of this I felt an emphasis on voice,
physicality and raw emotion, which Grotowski pushed to bring out in his theory of Poor Theatre ,
would suit this scene greatly. In addition, this feeling of regret, anger and hatred he feels after killing
the two would enable me to create an uneasy, dark atmosphere for the piece. I read a monologue based
on the last scene and used it as a stimulus for my devised monologue . I also watched a theatre
production on YouTube based on that very scene of Romeo and Juliet to understand the story better
while developing further ideas about how to form the piece. This was a dark interpretation of the last
scene, and it helped me form the idea of setting the play in a graveyard where Juliet was buried while I
addressed her as if she was alive and reindulged in Romeo s memories with

Analysis Of Bullet In The Brain By Tobias Wolff
The short story Bullet in the Brain by Tobias Wolff brings the reader to the attention of how one s life
can be influenced by something as timid as a word (Von Ancken). In this story, a protagonist is a man
by the name of Anders, who is a book critic. The story starts with Anders arriving at the bank just
before it closes. The line is really long and he is stuck in line with two loud ladies who drive him
crazy with their stupid conversation. He is characterized as, weary, elegant savagery with which he
dispatched almost everything he reviewed (Wolff). He is also portrayed as a man who is miserable and
constantly criticizing his surroundings. Even as he waits in the line at the bank, his sarcastic comments
do not stop to represent his perspective of his disappointment of the world. When one of the tellers
closed her window, Anders conveys a hatred towards the teller s action by stating, Damned unfair, he
said. Tragic, really. If they re not chopping off the wrong leg, or bombing your ancestral village, they
re closing their positions (Wolff). When reading the story, it was difficult to determine whether Anders
had sympathy towards anything in life as he argues and makes sarcastic remarks to the ladies.
However, when the short story was viewed as a film, it was learned that Anders was a character that
had sympathy towards life. Unlike the written story, the film starts with Anders in a classroom
lecturing his students. The difference in the beginning of the story has

Evolution Of Affirmative Action
Affirmative Action which is also known as equal opportunity is the federal government s program to
counteract discrimination. The intent was to foster diversity, and compensate groups that have
historically been discriminated against such as minorities, women, and other underrepresented groups.
Although Affirmative Action was intended to right wrong, it has become one of the most controversial
issues of the twentieth and twenty first centuries. All three branches of our Government have been
involved in the evolution of Affirmative Action.
First of all, Congress led the way for Affirmative Action by approving the 14th Amendment in 1866.
The 14th Amendment forbade states to deny citizens equal protection under the law. Affirmative

This is when Plessy v. Ferguson where the Supreme Court ruled that the 14th Amendment did not
prohibit separate but equal facilities in America. This ruling paved the way for states to establish
segregation policies that were followed for decades. Then in 1954, the Supreme Court overturned
Plessy by way of Brown v. Board of Education. This decision marked the end of Jim Crow and the
beginning of the policies aimed at promoting diversity in schools, the workplace, and other public
facilities. Affirmative Action was upheld by the Supreme Court in 2003 in Grutter v. Bollinger. Then
in Gratz v. Bollinger, the Supreme Court ruled that it was unconstitutional for colleges to enforce
racial or gender quotas. The well known Bakke case showed flaws in Affirmative Action and brought
about the term reverse discrimination. Ala Bakke, a white male, was denied admittance to a medical
school when less qualified minority applicants had been accepted. The Supreme Court ruled against
colleges that practiced inflexible quota systems in their Affirmative Action programs. The Court said
the college had discriminated unfairly against a white applicant. As time has gone on more injustice
was uncovered in regard to Affirmative Action. In the Wygant case in 1986 minority employees were
allowed to keep their jobs while white employees with seniority were laid off. On the other side of the
spectrum, however, was the Paradise case in 1987 where the Alabama Department of Public Safety
refused to promote minority employees above entry level positions even though the court ordered
them to. However, the landmark case surrounding Affirmative Action was heard in 2003 involving the
University of Michigan Affirmative Action policies. This decision upheld Affirmative Action in higher
education. The Court declared that rave can be one of =many factors that colleges use in selecting
their students. They said the

Dante s Paradiso And Cur Deus Daman Analysis
God is the ultimate creator of all. Before God created the world, nothing preexisted. The reason God
created the world was to be generous, not by someone forcing him. God is the almighty power so God
is not told what to do, He chooses what he does. Saint Anselm through his story Cur Deus Homo and
Dante through his story Divine Comedy talk about the incarnation of Christ to show the almighty
power that God holds. God makes all his decisions for the benefit of the people and does what He
feels is best for them. In Dante s Paradiso and in Cur Deus Homo by Saint Anselm they show that his
decision of incarnating Christ was a necessary one for the people of the world to have the ability to

Humans are powerful, but there are tasks that can only be done by certain individuals. The individual
needs to have infinite power, which only God has. Saint Anselm s writes If then, as is certain, that
celestial city must be completed from among men, and this cannot happen unless the aforesaid
satisfaction is made, while no one save God can make it and no one save man ought to make it, it is
necessary for a God Man to make it. (2,6). The celestial city is a heavenly city. The only person
capable of constructing a celestial city is God and for this, God needs to be Man. The city proves that
incarnation happened since no human can construct such a city. God is the highest figure in the
hierarchy of power and since nobody below him was able construct the city, it only leaves God. In
Dante, Beatrice said Man, in his limits, could not recompense: for no obedience, no humility, he
offered later could have been so deep that it could match the heights he meant to reach through
disobedience; man lacked the power to offer satisfaction by himself. Thus, there was a need for God,
through His own ways, to bring man back to life intact I mean by one way or another. (7. 97 103).
Like Anselm s story, God was the only one who had the power to complete such a task. God needed
the people to fight through the disobedience and for that to happen they needed a guide. God is the
only person who has infinite power, so he needed to bring Christ into the world to help the helpless
beings. God is the only one who had the power to create someone like Jesus to help the people who

Father And Son In Henry IV, Part 1
Fathers and sons To me the relationship of a father and son is a deep bond that two beings can have.
From a young child s point of view, his father is his main male role model. As a result, many children
when young may want to be like their fathers when they grow up. Although this may change as
children grow up and are introduced to new ideas and try to figure out who they are, this is where the
father is either understanding of his son s choices or against them. As young adults, we don t like to be
told what to do or be criticized for our choices, so if we find solace in someone else who understands
us and does not judge us, we view that person more highly almost fatherly, but though you view that
person highly you know that he cannot take the place of your blood father. In the play Henry IV, Part 1
we are introduced to King Henry, who is Hal s father and the new monarch of Great Britain. Henry
became the new monarch by overthrowing King Richard. I can only imagine the amount of pressure
he most have trying to prove that he is a worthy king since he did not obtain the throne through
bloodline. In Act 1, scene 1, Henry is talking to Westmoreland about Prince Hal. From the first line
Henry sets this tone of disappointment when speaking of his son Hal. Yea, there thou mak st me sad,
and mak st me sin. In envy that lord Northumberland should be the father to so blessed a son. Henry is
not proud to have Hal as his son. Henry is so ashamed that he begins to praise

Essay on A Philosophical Examination of Language
A Philosophical Examination of Language
Philosophy is language idling.
Ludwig Wittgenstein Language and philosophy have an intimate connection to one another; without a
philosophical examination of the meanings and structure of language, we cannot easily ascertain the
objective truth of the statements we make, nor can we usefully discuss abstract concepts. The
philosophy of language seeks to understand the concepts expressed by language and to find a system
by which it can effectively and accurately do so. This is more difficult than it appears at first;
philosophers are looking for a theory of language which avoids the minute errors of meaning and
usage which occur in all discussions of abstract concepts and which tend to ... Show more content on

Ordinary language theory, on the other hand, suggested that these philosophical problems appear when
language is used improperly; the language itself is perfectly acceptable and can be easily applied to
the discussion of abstract and philosophical concepts without undue modifications, as long as it is
used and interpreted properly (Katz 69). Each of the! ! se movements in linguistic philosophy had its
strengths and weaknesses, and its supporters and detractors. LOGICAL EMPIRICISM
Pure metaphysical speculation which is not based on fact is, to the empiricists, neither relevant nor
useful. The only truth, in this philosophy, is that which is mathematically provable or experimentally
observable (Katz 18 19). This truth can be divided into two categories: analytic truths are based on
inherent meanings and can be observed through the application of reason, if not experiment; synthetic
truths are those facts which are obtained from the experience of reality (Quine, in Rosenberg Travis,
63). How does this apply to linguistic philosophy? Any system of communication must, in order to be

The National Patient Safety Goal
This paper, will discuss the National Patient Safety Goal NPSG 0.7.06.01 entitled Use proven
guidelines to prevent infection of the urinary tract that are caused by catheter (The Joint Commission,
2015). It will identify reasons why this National Patient Safety Goal was chosen as well as the type of
organizations that utilize urinary catheters. It will look into financial implications of implementing
educational process versus the hospital cost of Catheter Associated Urinary Infections (CAUTI). The
Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) will demonstrate method on how to gather data, design educational
tool, implement standard practice and create a committee by collaborating with other health care
discipline. Effectiveness of the educational process will be evaluated through data collection. Finally,
future health care delivery implications will be explored.
Description of Goal
The National Patient Safety Goal NPSG 0.7.06.01 entitled Use proven guidelines to prevent infection
of the urinary tract that are caused by catheter. was selected (The Joint Commission, 2015). Gould et
al. (2010) reported that in an acute care hospital, a urinary catheter is the most commonly used
medical devices (as cited in Acker, 2014). What is a urinary catheter? Urinary catheter is a thin tube
inserted into the bladder to drain urine. A collection system bag is connected to the catheter (Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention, 2010). Gokula et al. (2014) asserted, short term and long term

My Brother Sam Is Dead By The Collier Brothers
In the book My Brother Sam is Dead by the Collier Brothers, the main character Tim Meeker is
divided within himself by war. Tim has seen war divide him with everything. His Father is a Loyalist,
and his brother is a Patriot. He hasn t chose his side so he is very confused. He admires his brother,
and is scared of his Father. If Tim were to make a decision it would drastically change the story. But,
he would be betraying one of his close family members. Since Tim is so divided do you think he will
make a big decision or stay neutral. Tim could be a Loyalist because the Loyalist save him. On page
97 the Loyalists save him and his Father from the Cowboys. They saved his life so he feels he shouldn
t pay them back. Also, on page 103 Tim says, The Loyalist, I guess. when the Pratt s asked him who
he fought for. Tim is very unsure which side to be on, but he can t say it in front of his Father. And, on
page 43 Tim says, I wish Sam gave Father back the Brown Bess. This shows that Tim is scared that
his Father will get mad at Sam. This is all important because Tim as a Loyalist will change his

The Bamana People In Mali
Just west of the Fulani peoples in Niger, lay many Mande speaking people in Mali. Much like the cliff
dwelling Dogon, the Bamana people can also be found in Mali. The Bamana are a patrilineal society
that operates through strict caste systems ranging from nobilities, artisans, blacksmiths, to servants. As
with any people of the Mande culture, the Bamana hold blacksmiths in their caste system to very
important standards. People who manipulate wood and metal and transform them into useful or even
dangerous objects are believed to possess potent amounts of an energy called nyama. Most notably,
these powerful blacksmiths are responsible for constructing the sacred dance crests of the Bamana

Northern Bamana people have adopted a horizontal style, in which the horns of the antelope sweep

abstract style, in which the Ci Wara has upward, curved horns and a canine like body. In all Bamana
regions across Mali, however, the Ci Wara headdress is worn during boys commencement dances as a
symbol of their entrance into adulthood. The dance crests allude to the important farming skills that
men will need in order to provide for their wives and children in the future. During the ritual dance,
two men dance as the Ci Wara and his female counterpart. While wearing these headdresses, the men
will hunch over and transform [from] two legged dancers into four legged animals, channeling the
impeccable agricultural abilities of the Ci Wara. Additionally, this particular Ci Wara is interesting in
that it features a child on the female Ci Wara s back. As this dance emphasizes the delicate balance of
humanity and life, and one s journey from childhood to adulthood, it is especially important to note
the balance of femininity and masculinity between the two sculptures. The broad, detailed back and
phallic nature of the male figure represents the powerful masculine sun,

Pearl Harbor Monologue
The next day, the 5th of November, at twelve, the delay would (morally speaking) expire; after that

The frigate was then in 31 15 north latitude and 136 42 east longitude. The coast of Japan still

Sociology and Social Structure
Social structure is the way society is organized into predictable relationships. There are five elements
when you break down social structure. The first being status. We usually associate having a status to
the amount of influence, wealth and fame. But sociologists use the term status to refer to any of the
full range of socially defined positions within a large group or society, from the lowest to the highest.
Examples of this are being a son or daughter, dental technician or the president of the United States.
Sociologists also see some status to be achieved or ascribed and an ascribed status is when a person is
assigned to it by society without regard for the person s unique talents or characteristics. But the
achieved status comes to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Technology is defines how the society is and it means that its information about how to use the
material resources of the environment to satisfy human needs and desires. The first type of
preindustrial society is the hunting and gathering society, because they rely on whatever foods and
fibers are readily available. Technology is minimal in this society. Later Horticultural societies used
plant seeds and crops rather then subsist on available foods. People become less nomadic and place
more emphasis on the production of tools and household objects. The last stage in the preindustrial
development is the agrarian society. They primarily engage in the production of food. Technology
seems to grow but is still quite basic. A industrial society is a society that depends on mechanization to
produce its goods and services. THey rely on new inventions that facilitate agricultural and industrial
production, and on new sources of energy, such as steam. The postindustrial society is an economic
system that engages primarily in the processing and control of information. It focused on services
rather than manufactured goods. Large numbers of people become involved in occupations devoted to
the teaching, generation, or dissemination of ideas. Two specific sociologist had there own ideas about
modern societies. Emile Durkheim agreed that social structure depends on the division

Several different factors can affect who develops Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and it can happen to
anyone. Having a lot of exposure to a traumatic event, like a war makes it more likely that a person
will develop PTSD. Certain types of trauma can increase the chances of someone getting PTSD such
as combat, and sexual assault (PTSD what is). Although medication and psychotherapy help PTSD
patients reduce their symptoms, it remains a difficult disorder to treat. Many veterans suffering from
PTSD see the disorder as a weakness and either fail to report their symptoms, go undiagnosed, or they
drop out of their therapy (Glintborg). So, it remains necessary to find alternative therapies, and
integrating support animals remains a viable option.
Current Treatment Limitations Many different treatments available for PTSD that have minimized
PTSD symptoms. The most common form of treatment being trauma focused psychotherapies, which
has many different forms, to which the most effective seems to be exposure therapy. Its success works
by having patients face their fears, and talking about the traumatic event. Frequently these therapies
are paired with another form of treatment such as medication. Depression and anxiety medication
work best for most PTSD cases. Nevertheless, limitations to the successes of these treatments do exist.
Some studies have estimated that of the general population with PTSD diagnoses, only 49.9%

A Byzantine Fault
Introduction
Faults occur in every system which may halt the systems functionality. A fault that presents different
symptoms to different observers is called a Byzantine fault. These Byzantine faults form the reason for
the loss of a system service and are called Byzantine failures. A Byzantine failure may occur due to
arbitrary problems like corruption in their local state, production of incorrect outputs or by processing
requests incorrectly instead of the general situations like crashing or stopping. The ability of a system
to defend itself from Byzantine failures is called Byzantine fault tolerance which is a sub field of fault
tolerance.
A reliable computer system is a system that overcomes failures, one such failure is the Byzantine
Generals problem. This problem is rare and generally overlooked by the people who are unfamiliar
with the problem. It brings down the entire network if not tackled properly. This problem is most
common in distributed dependable network. This paper aims at explaining the Byzantine Generals
problem and providing a possible solution to that problem.
My motivation to write this topic comes from the wide usage of distributed systems in various fields
like particle physics, bioinformatics, weather, climate, visualization and graphics, economics and
finance etc., and the need to protect such systems. Failure of distributed systems leads to huge loss of
resources, time and money. Thus protecting from these kinds of failure is a challenging task

Women Oppression In Literature
We re Not Going To Take It: Women Oppression in Literature
What is oppression? Oppression is defined as prolonged cruel or unjust treatment ( Oppression par. 1)
Women have experienced maltreatment since the Fall of Mankind. The subjection of women has
decreased within the past two centuries, due to their natural rights being acknowledged. Over the
years, people have protested the treatment of women through literature. Girl, Married Life,
Punishment, and The Declaration of Sentiments shares the theme of women s oppression. Despite
having the same themes, the authors use distinct social context and develop their arguments
differently.
Jamaica Kincaid, author of Girl, displays the unfair treatment of young women in Antiguan society. In
the poem, a girl is receiving a lecture on how to be a woman. She is not encouraged to be herself or to
gain an education. In fact, the mother continuously refers to her as a slut, the slut I know you are so
bent on becoming (Kincaid 1146) The role of the Antiguan woman is that of homemaker. Berleant
Schiller suggests, the domestic domain of women is sometimes implicitly regarded as inferior
(Berleant Schiller 254). Women in Antiguan society are taught extensively how to prepare meals and
set tables. Where and how an Antiguan family eat indicates their social standing (Berleant Schiller
259). Kincaid identifies the importance of the meal place through the use of repetition.

Age-Distributed Stages Of Art Development
Anyone who spends time with children knows they draw all the time. On paper, on tables, on
themselves; children constantly explore their world through mark making and scribbling. Children can
use art to help them develop other cognitive skills such as writing or anger management; and although
every child progresses differently, this paper discusses the possibility of universal, age correlated
stages of art development.
Perhaps the most notable analysis in the stages of development comes from the work of Marcia
Baghban (2007) who studied the link between drawing and writing in early childhood. Baghban
hypothesized that children use writing and drawing as a tool for thinking, organizing ideas, and
understanding experiences. In addition, she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Robyn Holmes conducted a study in order to discover if children s artwork could reveal their
knowledge of nonverbal communication and social distance (Holmes, 1992, p. 157). The researchers
asked 32 middle class children (half were 5 years old, half were 11) to draw two separate pictures: one
with themselves and a stranger, one of themselves and a friend. The researchers hypothesized that
children would draw strangers further away from themselves than friends, and that older children
would draw the stranger farther apart than young children. The researchers measured distance between
the figures in centimeters from the eye line of one face to the eyeline of the other face. The results
indicated that younger children drew strangers farther apart than older children and that while younger
girls and boys drew strangers the same distance apart, girls drew themselves closer to their friends
(Holmes, 1992, p. 160). However, contrary to the hypothesis, older children drew themselves closer to
a stranger than younger children. Perhaps because parents and teachers continually warn young
children about stranger danger. The study concluded that children realize that strangers should stand
further apart than friends, and that factors of familiarity and age affect the children s expression of
nonverbal communication, supporting the hypothesis

How Marriage Has Changed For Persian Women
Shadi has been longing to separate from her husband, she is only allowed to do so on the grounds of
being a victim of domestic violence or is despising living with a drug addict. These don t apply to her
however, and since her migration to Australia she has learned that it s okay to fall out of love with
someone and still have a reasonable excuse to separate. Closely linking in with beauty and power and
gender equality, my topic also aims to evaluate how marriage has changed for Persian women as a
result of migration to Australia.
Marriage celebrated in the Persian culture ceremonial wise, as well as its values has been proven to be
different to the western ideals of marriage in its traditional sense. For a questionnaire response,
participants were asked if the tradition, concept and values of marriage were changing for the Persian
women who migrate to Australia. 69 of the 81 (85.18%) respondents believed so and the remaining
argued against.

both qualitative and quantitative data. Majority of the responders, regardless of their cultural
background responded yes , sitting in at a total of 85.18 % meanwhile the minority answering no
filling up the remainder.
Regardless of the cultural distinction, both perspectives derived from my questionnaire responses
shared the same ideas on marriage. Responders believed that Persians have taken the western

Astronomy Through The Ages Essay
Astronomy through the Ages Through time and tide, most ancient civilizations have recorded and
observed the stars above. Since the different cycles and phenomena of the sun, moon, and planets
mostly follow patterns that are predictable, it should come natural to use these cycles as a way to tell
time. From calendars to seasons and farming, they have been crucial to predicting what may come
next in way of weather and when to harvest or plant crops. A good amount of civilizations also used
Astronomy to determine where to place and how to design funerary and religious buildings, as well as
come domiciles. The stars were mystical wonders, they represented the gods and other mythological
creatures that filled the beliefs and imagination of astronomers across the globe. The earliest of
suggested accounts of astronomical records were during the Paleolithic Era. Bone plates that shown

Girls Should Not Play A Boy Sport
Girls just want to play too
Society believes that girls should not play a boy sport. Men and women don t compete directly in most
sports because of physiological differences, but auto racing is among the few where size and strength
matter less and where men and women match wits and grit without any compensating allowances.
(Brady and Ryan, 2013) Anybody should be able to participate in any activity whether it is just for one
gender. The same way boys are allowed to play on a girls team, girls should be able to do the same.
First reason is cheerleading originally was not suppose to be a same sex sport. Secondly, girls can do
just as much as boys can. Thirdly, how can any sport be categorize by a boy or girl sport; if it is
something that either gender is good at, then they should be able to play it.
The reason girls should be allowed to play on a boys sport is because of cheerleading. Cheerleading is
labeled as a girl sport and if a boy is on the team most of the time he is labeled gay or he has a lot of
feminine ways. That is the same as saying that wrestling is an all boy sport and if the girls on there are
playing then they are either gay or have manly ways. Which technically is not always true. If boys are
allowed to play the most popular sport there is out there than girls should be able to play on an
actually football team instead of labeling it powder puff. Sports that are just like a boys team are
labeled completely different, in which they should all come

How Did Shakespeare Use Astrology During The Renaissance
Most of what s been said about shakespeare s use of Astrology was so simplistic that it s irrelevant.
Mainly because the people reading his work don t know enough about it while they are reading it.
Astrology during the Renaissance was based on the complex system of numbers, the Part of Fortune,
and harmony of spheres. Professional astrologers that hear him not only catch his references to the
stars, planets, and signs, but also the pervasive and underlying worldview that astrology is the central
study of the universe. During the renaissance, ordinary folks tended to use terms like the stars to mean
luck or fortune and the names of the planets for some quality that was specific to that planet, as Mars
to anger or Venus to love.

safest sports according to momsteam.com, more and more players are getting hurt and here s why.
Many players are getting line drives to the head, and other parts of their body. They say they should
have been wearing a face mask while playing defense. Players of fastpitch softball need to wear a face

risks for injuries that could potentionally lead to your end in a career of softball. Girls are starting to

think it is cool to wear face masks and that it is fun to wear different colored masks. Missouri softball
pitchers in high school are now required to wear a face mask while pitching (Eads). Little girls are
now being taught to never play without one. Tournaments and rec leagues are making a face mask rule
now for pitchers and corners. Little girls do not have to worry about getting hit in the face because
they are wearing them all of the time. The good thing about young girls wearing face masks is they

The geography of the Indian subcontinent had a big affect not only with the development of civilization, but on economics, religion and social order as well. The Indian subcontinent is diverse in many ways, such as the array of languages, as well as the reputation of being a cradle of religion which created two of the world s major religions, Hinduism and Buddhism(p. 38). For example, in civilizations such as the Harappan civilization the political and social structures were affected by the geography of where their civilization resided. In several respects, Harappan civilization closely resembled the cultures of Mesopotamia and the Nile Valley (p. 39). The resemblance resembled closely, because of how the civilizations probably started out being farming villages and slowly grew into a large city. The city that was considered the center of power was the city of Harappa. The city of Harappa was surrounded by a brick wall over 40 feet thick at its base and more than 3.5 miles in circumference (p. 39). With this city of power archaeological evidence suggest that the social structures were a loose confederation made up of more than 1500 cities connected by commerce and trade alliances and ruled by the wealthy merchants and landlords. • 11. Romeo And Juliet Last Scene Essay I chose the last scene of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the death scene of Romeo after he sees Juliet die , as the material I wanted to transform using Grotowski s influence for my solo theatre piece . I felt that this particular scene really involved the use of raw emotion. The general tone of this particular scene is quite somber and dark, as Romeo sees his loved one dead , and there is an overall sense of longing as Romeo relives the moments him and Juliet shared together, as well as longing for their once strong bond and her presence. I decided to write my own monologue from Romeo s perspective based on the scene, and to preserve the main ideas and story of the scene to a large extent, whilst tweaking the original content ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After doing so I decided to take a slightly different perspective on the scene, where as well as outlining the despair of Romeo and the longing he feels for Juliet, I would outline other feelings not explored in the actual scene such as the regret (and possible short term satisfaction) he felt in killing Tybalt and Paris who he felt were tearing them apart. Because of this I felt an emphasis on voice, physicality and raw emotion, which Grotowski pushed to bring out in his theory of Poor Theatre , would suit this scene greatly. In addition, this feeling of regret, anger and hatred he feels after killing the two would enable me to create an uneasy, dark atmosphere for the piece. I read a monologue based on the last scene and used it as a stimulus for my devised monologue . I also watched a theatre production on YouTube based on that very scene of Romeo and Juliet to understand the story better while developing further ideas about how to form the piece. In this story, a protagonist is a man by the name of Anders, who is a book critic. The story starts with Anders arriving at the bank just before it closes. The line is really long and he is stuck in line with two loud ladies who drive him crazy with their stupid conversation. He is also portrayed as a man who is miserable and constantly criticizing his surroundings. When one of the tellers closed her window, Anders conveys a hatred towards the teller s action by stating, Damned unfair, he said. Tragic, really. From a young child s point of view, his father is his main male role model. As a result, many children when young may want to be like their fathers when they grow up. The frigate was then in 31 15 north latitude and 136 42 east longitude. The coast of Japan still remained less than two hundred miles to leeward. Night was approaching. They had just struck eight bells; large clouds veiled the face of the moon, then in its first quarter. The sea undulated peaceably under the stern of the vessel. At that moment I was leaning forward on the starboard netting. Conseil, standing near me, was looking straight before him. The crew, perched in the ratlines, examined the ... The first being status. We usually associate having a status to the amount of influence, wealth and fame. But sociologists use the term status to refer to any of the full range of socially defined positions within a large group or society, from the lowest to the highest. Examples of this are being a son or daughter, dental technician or the president of the United States. Having a lot of exposure to a traumatic event, like a war makes it more likely that a person will develop PTSD. Certain types of trauma can increase the chances of someone getting PTSD such as combat, and sexual assault (PTSD what is). Although medication and psychotherapy help PTSD patients reduce their symptoms, it remains a difficult disorder to treat. Many veterans suffering from PTSD see the disorder as a weakness and either fail to report their symptoms, go undiagnosed, or they drop out of their therapy (Glintborg). • 26. A Byzantine Fault Introduction Faults occur in every system which may halt the systems functionality. A fault that presents different symptoms to different observers is called a Byzantine fault. These Byzantine faults form the reason for the loss of a system service and are called Byzantine failures. A Byzantine failure may occur due to arbitrary problems like corruption in their local state, production of incorrect outputs or by processing requests incorrectly instead of the general situations like crashing or stopping. The ability of a system to defend itself from Byzantine failures is called Byzantine fault tolerance which is a sub field of fault tolerance. A reliable computer system is a system that overcomes failures, one such failure is the Byzantine Generals problem. This problem is rare and generally overlooked by the people who are unfamiliar with the problem. It brings down the entire network if not tackled properly. This problem is most common in distributed dependable network. This paper aims at explaining the Byzantine Generals problem and providing a possible solution to that problem. My motivation to write this topic comes from the wide usage of distributed systems in various fields like particle physics, bioinformatics, weather, climate, visualization and graphics, economics and finance etc., and the need to protect such systems. Failure of distributed systems leads to huge loss of resources, time and money. Thus protecting from these kinds of failure is a challenging task ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Women Oppression In Literature We re Not Going To Take It: Women Oppression in Literature What is oppression? Oppression is defined as prolonged cruel or unjust treatment ( Oppression par. 1) Women have experienced maltreatment since the Fall of Mankind. The subjection of women has decreased within the past two centuries, due to their natural rights being acknowledged. Over the years, people have protested the treatment of women through literature. Girl, Married Life, Punishment, and The Declaration of Sentiments shares the theme of women s oppression. Despite having the same themes, the authors use distinct social context and develop their arguments differently. Jamaica Kincaid, author of Girl, displays the unfair treatment of young women in Antiguan society. In the poem, a girl is receiving a lecture on how to be a woman. She is not encouraged to be herself or to gain an education. In fact, the mother continuously refers to her as a slut, the slut I know you are so bent on becoming (Kincaid 1146) The role of the Antiguan woman is that of homemaker. Berleant Schiller suggests, the domestic domain of women is sometimes implicitly regarded as inferior (Berleant Schiller 254). Women in Antiguan society are taught extensively how to prepare meals and set tables. Where and how an Antiguan family eat indicates their social standing (Berleant Schiller 259). Kincaid identifies the importance of the meal place through the use of repetition. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On paper, on tables, on themselves; children constantly explore their world through mark making and scribbling. Children can use art to help them develop other cognitive skills such as writing or anger management; and although every child progresses differently, this paper discusses the possibility of universal, age correlated stages of art development. Perhaps the most notable analysis in the stages of development comes from the work of Marcia Baghban (2007) who studied the link between drawing and writing in early childhood. Baghban hypothesized that children use writing and drawing as a tool for thinking, organizing ideas, and understanding experiences. In addition, she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Robyn Holmes conducted a study in order to discover if children s artwork could reveal their knowledge of nonverbal communication and social distance (Holmes, 1992, p. 157). The researchers asked 32 middle class children (half were 5 years old, half were 11) to draw two separate pictures: one with themselves and a stranger, one of themselves and a friend. The researchers hypothesized that children would draw strangers further away from themselves than friends, and that older children would draw the stranger farther apart than young children. The researchers measured distance between the figures in centimeters from the eye line of one face to the eyeline of the other face. The results indicated that younger children drew strangers farther apart than older children and that while younger girls and boys drew strangers the same distance apart, girls drew themselves closer to their friends (Holmes, 1992, p. 160). However, contrary to the hypothesis, older children drew themselves closer to a stranger than younger children. Perhaps because parents and teachers continually warn young children about stranger danger. The study concluded that children realize that strangers should stand further apart than friends, and that factors of familiarity and age affect the children s expression of nonverbal communication, supporting the hypothesis ... Since the different cycles and phenomena of the sun, moon, and planets mostly follow patterns that are predictable, it should come natural to use these cycles as a way to tell time. From calendars to seasons and farming, they have been crucial to predicting what may come next in way of weather and when to harvest or plant crops. • 32. Girls Should Not Play A Boy Sport Girls just want to play too Society believes that girls should not play a boy sport. Men and women don t compete directly in most sports because of physiological differences, but auto racing is among the few where size and strength matter less and where men and women match wits and grit without any compensating allowances. (Brady and Ryan, 2013) Anybody should be able to participate in any activity whether it is just for one gender. The same way boys are allowed to play on a girls team, girls should be able to do the same. First reason is cheerleading originally was not suppose to be a same sex sport. Secondly, girls can do just as much as boys can. Thirdly, how can any sport be categorize by a boy or girl sport; if it is something that either gender is good at, then they should be able to play it. The reason girls should be allowed to play on a boys sport is because of cheerleading. Cheerleading is labeled as a girl sport and if a boy is on the team most of the time he is labeled gay or he has a lot of feminine ways. That is the same as saying that wrestling is an all boy sport and if the girls on there are playing then they are either gay or have manly ways. Which technically is not always true. If boys are allowed to play the most popular sport there is out there than girls should be able to play on an actually football team instead of labeling it powder puff.
