Investigate and find the relationship between heat loss...
To investigate the relationship between surface area : volume ratio and heat loss.
INTRODUCTION:
The aim of this experiment is to investigate and find the relationship between heat loss (of water) and
surface area to volume ratio of animals. To investigate this, we are going to use three flasks of
different volume (as the equivalent the animals) and thus different surface areas filled with water.
BACKGROUND:
Surface Area : Volume Ratios
We will be using the following formula for calculating SA:Vol ratios:
SA : Vol
Vol : Vol
100ml flask = 115 : 100 = 1.15 : 1
100 : 100
250ml flask = 230 : 250 = 0.92 : 1
250 : 250
500ml flask = 330 : 500 = 0.66:1
500 : 500
The factors effecting heat loss:
1.Energy Levels
2.Climate / air ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second and third experiment was also accurate, however the line of best fit does not go through all
the points, in the evaluation section I can explain why this could be.
On the graphs I have plotted the basic formula of a linear line of y = mx + c. As we can see the
gradient for the 100ml flask at 0.97 was fractionally (0.01 out) more than double that of the 500ml
flask at 0.48 which proves to us the prediction was correct. So as a statement we can say: Heat loss
occurs at twice the speed for the 100ml flask than the 500ml flask due to the fact that the gradient of
the line of best fit for the 100ml flask is double that of the 500ml flask. Also we can see that the 250ml
flask lost it s waters heat at somewhere between that of the 100ml and 500ml flask, proving my
prediction correct.
From the results I can say that, SA to volume ratio does affect the rate of heat loss.
Evaluation of Results:
I thought that most of my results were very accurate. However there were a number of points out of
place that I could improve on. On the 250ml experiment the reading between six and eight minutes
appeared to be incorrect compared with the average heat loss in the same experiment. This could have

Sports Athletes Should Not Be Better Than Their Opponent
Introduction In the world of sports, competitive athletes are willing to do whatever is necessary to be
better than their opponent. The nature of the competitive drive in some athletes is precisely what
separates the average from the elite. Compared to their novice counterparts, elite athletes usually have
a more extensive knowledge base of sport specific information and are more adept at using said
knowledge efficiently to identify, remember and manipulate relevant information in their specialist
sport (Swann, Moran, Piggott, 2015). In order to achieve max performance, an elite athlete must be
skilled in their craft, meaning they are able to produce the skills needed reliably, on demand, and with
very little luck. Demonstrating their skill ability by maximizing the certainty of the intended goal
achievement, minimizing their energy expenditure (physically and mentally), and minimizing the time
used (Schmidt Lee, 2015). An athletes cognitive performance will ultimately reflect in their physical
capabilities. In today s society, elite athletes and their followers are consumed with idea of being even
bigger, even faster, and even stronger than ever before. To keep up with the demands elite athletes face
its critical to develop new training methods, allowing athletes to set and surpass new standards of
success. The intense demands required of elite level athletes to excel in their field makes it
increasingly difficult to find alternative training methods to provide a

Gout Case Study
Introduction Along with the development of modern society and lifestyle activities, gout is formed by
the impact of the environment and daily activities, is becoming many people s fears, so the
understanding of the disease to early preventive measures, effective treatments play an extremely
important role. Gout is a metabolic disease uric acid, leading to deposition of monosodium crystals in
the organization (synovium and organizations around the joints, kidneys and kidney tissue tube), the
contributory factors can find in some certain common medication, alcohol, and dietary foods (Gout

parameters of a PID controller in an Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) system by the approach of
Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Differential Evolution (DE) Techniques is presented. This
paper demonstrated in detail how to employ the PSO and DE methods to search efficiently the optimal
PID controller parameters of an AVR system. A MATLAB simulation has been performed. The
proposed approach had superior features, including easy implementation, stable convergence
characteristic, and good computational efficiency. In order to assist estimating the performance of the
PID controller using PSO and DE, Minimum Error Integral (MEI) criterion Integral Absolute Error

Prometheus s Invention
Prometheus tried to convince the Council of Scholars that his invention merited their support due to
the ability of his invention being able to change the world and that he believed that the Council of
Scholars would not of think of this invention in the future (74). Firstly, he believed that his invention
could have changed the world by changing how they used light. By having this invention, they wouldn
t need old fashioned candles and torches because now they would have electricity (73). By having
electricity, they could have become more advanced in their society but it was too bad that the Council

they would be nowhere to be seen in regulated stores. The FDA is similar to the scene considering that
both the FDA and the Council of Scholars ban inventions that are not beneficial to the community. The
FDA is a little more serious considering that something that they don t ban could end up killing
someone. The FDA is different to the scene because the FDA will ban anything that doesn t benefit the

has imposed positive and negative effects on many countries and cultures. This paper focuses on
tourisms impact on Jamaica and the consequences dams have had in Thailand. For both countries
globalization has had both advantages and disadvantages.
Tourisms Effect on Jamaica Globalization through tourism has had a significant effect on Jamaica.

Although there were advantages for the Thailand people, for many Thai it has had more negative than
positive effects. Major Challenges in balancing the benefits of clean electricity, water storage and
flood control from the dams against negative impacts. These include population displacement,
obstruction to fish movements up and down the river, and changes in water and sediment flow .
(Richardson, Michael 2009). The disadvantages began to out way the advantages. Building of Pac
Moon Dam and other Dams have affected Thailand in several other adverse methods. It severely
decreased fish up to 60%. According to the Foundation for Ecological Recovery, the rivers fishing
industry alone is worth up to 3 billion annually, and the existing dams are already decreasing that
profit. (Blake, Haley 2009). Whole species became extinct. The river had 50 different rapids that
flowed with river dependent fish. Riverbank vegetation, Bamboo, and mushrooms began to disappear.
Liver fluke, Blood fluke, and Schistosomiasis increased due to stagnant water. Villagers were
dependent on income generated from fish, bamboo and mushrooms. Food and income deteriorated.
Many Villagers moved away. Their lives and livelihood depended on the river. The people of Pac
Moon Dam had already experienced the ill ecosystem change from past dams built as expressed in

Example Of Overt Delinquency

delinquency according to criminologists refers to youngster of age boundaries between 12 to 20 years
who have engaged themselves in any offence (World Youth Report, 2003). As per World Youth Report
(2003); sociologists consider any breach in any licit or civic norms, ranging from insignificant felony

Love In Fahrenheit 451 Analysis
The Theme of Love in Fahrenheit 451
A world full a blank expressionless faces connected to even more mindless robotic people. A world
where one just breathes and eats, but never truly feels any emotion. Our world is on the way to
becoming this, but for Millie and Montag this was a sad, sad, reality in Ray Bradbury s book
Fahrenheit 451. Everything grows with time as did our main character Montag throughout the book.
Montag begins as a mindless follower and evolves into a fearless leader. As he grows into this leader
his relationship with Mildred goes through multiple changes. Montag and Millie s story is broken into
three parts. Montag first and most briefly believes he and Millie were a fairy tale couple and then
Clarisse made him realize that he was in a loveless relationship, but finally in the last few pages
Montag comes to peace with everything that has happened.
The time where Millie and Montag have a fairytale relationship is short lived but we can infer that
they had had a perfect relationship for the years leading up to the beginning of this book. We can see
an example of how Montag did everything in his power to ignore anything that threatened his
relationship when he talks to Clarisse for the first time. Clarisse asks Montag if he is happy and
Montag says quickly without much thought Of course I m happy. What does she think? I m not?
(Bradburry 8). Montag answered this question as quickly as you d answer a simple addition problem.
We see this happen in our world too. When someone asks How are you? the only socially acceptable
response is I m fine . But no one can be fine all the time. This shows how our world is slowly
beginning to become the dystopia described in Fahrenheit 451. But everything must change and as our
world changes for the worse Montag is becoming aware of how bad his world and will set out to
change it.
Next Montag realizes he has been trapped in a loveless relationship with Millie all these years. After
Clarisse asks him if he s happy he walks into his house to see that his wife has attempted suicide. He
calls the hospital expecting doctors to rush over to save her, but instead a pair of almost janitors come
to clean her out. Everything that had happened that day boiled up

The Issue Arising From The Monique s Case Essay
Introduction:
The issue arising from the Monique s case is the direct applicability of the Treaty Articles and the
direct or indirect effect of Directives, provided by the European Union.
Monique may be able to rely on both Article 18 and 45 of TFEU which concerns any kind of
discrimination against EU citizens. The Council Directive 14/08 will be examined whether it is direct
or indirect applicable, or if it can be applicable under the principle of state liability. In the case where
one of the above can be established, Monique will be able to seek compensations against either
Conker Plc or the United Kingdom s State for non implementation of the directive.
Treaty Articles Direct Effect:
In 1974, when the European Council was created, all countries decided that treaties will be agreed
together and they cannot be enforceable if they are not approved democratically from all Member
States. Treaties are at the top of the European Union s hierarchy and they are primary legislations
which give rights to Member states and European citizens but also create obligations to the European
States to implement the new law into their own domestic law. Also, Treaties sets the European Union s
constitutional basis and, as stated in the case of Costa, they cannot be overridden by any national law.
Articles 3,4 and 6 of the TFEU provides the areas where European Union have exclusive
competences, shared and supporting competences respectively and the Union shall act only within the

Adoption Of A New Ehr
Despite some barriers and challenges of EHR adoption, transitioning our office to paperless has
become inevitable. Timely adoption of EHR would help our clinic receive incentives, merge paper
records into the new database, and better organize patient information. In order to ensure the most
seamless implementation possible, meticulous planning will be a must.
First, the process of acquiring a new EHR system will start with developing an office strategy based
on different needs of our clinic. Some critical questions should be asked such as what would be the
main goal to go paperless, what would be some features that my clinicians regard important, would
my practitioners need a remote access, or would they be committed in learning and using ... Show

Anita Ground also stresses on the huge importance of this planning stage by using a concept of system
life cycle. It consists of feasibility study, analysis, design, programming, implementation, and lastly
maintenance (Ground, 2011, VA TMS training material). The analysis phase in particular would
coincide with what the author Yoshihashi is presenting in figuring out office strategy and researching
EHR options. Identification of stakeholders and system requirement would play a critical role in EHR
adoption (Ground, 2011). Stakeholders would include patients, family, clinicians, billing, registration,
and coding as well as the external users such as Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Centers for
Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Bottom line is that the new system being purchased would
need to provide meaningful use to the clinic based on the current certification standards.
Health information technology (HIT) consultants would be able to provide valuable guidance in
filtering information and narrowing the search down to a few that can work for this clinic. In order to
get the best recommendation among many vendors out there, the following information would need to
be provided and answered.
1) The inputting method: keyboard, mouse, stylus, touch screen, or voice recognition

CSI: How to identify an unknown white powder
Jiayue Sun
Introduction
The Identity of a chemical compound is extremely critical to observe. The identity can lead to
discovering its properties and can aid in its classification. Thus scientist all around the world put high
emphasis on the procedure to identify a compound through the flame test and chemical testing. Flame
test works to identify the cation within the compound, while chemical testing using certain compounds
and acid identifies the anion.
Flame test uses the differences of energy levels of an element. When the flame, from the micro burner
used, excites the electrons in their ground state, the electrons absorb the energy and move to a higher
energy level. Yet since the ground state is preferred, the electrons tend to move down the energy level
and emit the extra energy absorbed. This type of energy is emitted through photon and wavelength, a
characteristic of light. Thus, each element emits a certain type light which can be used to identify it by
consulting a chart with all the documented flame test results. In Particular for this experiment, the test
for ammonia and Magnesium is conducted with the addition of sodium hydroxide and the observing
for the presence of the odor of ammonia for ammonia or precipitate for magnesium.
The chemical testing uses compounds including acids and alkaline to combine with the element.

Good Country People by Flannery O’Connor
In her book, Good Country People, Flannery O Connor shows first hand how one cannot judge a book
by its cover... not even a Bible. Even though a façade is put on, one realizes how vulnerable Hulga
Hopewell actually is. Her encounter with a Bible salesman, Manley Pointer, shows how one cannot
trust even good country people (2). Symbolism in this story transforms what one perceives the
character of Hulga and Manley to be and allows the reader to make deeper connections about their
physical and mental flaws. The main, and most noticeable, symbol is Hulga Joy Hopewell s artificial
leg. She is as sensitive about it as a peacock about its tail (8). The roughness of her personality
matches that of her wooden leg. Since becoming handicapped, she removes all feelings for others,
herself, and the belief in a higher power. She feels that she is not of value anymore and not worth the
dust of her existence (11) so she changes her name to Hulga, which she believes is the ugliest name in
all languages. Her leg is used as a tool to illustrate to others her miserable state. She stomps around
and purposely makes an ugly sounding (9) noise. As bad as the situation of losing her leg may be,
what is worse is how she uses it. The leg, though inanimate and built to be very strong, is her crutch,
both literally and psychologically. This crutch is what makes her so weak and bitter. When Hulga says
to her mother, Mrs. Hopewell, if you want me, here I am like I am (2) this

Heroes In Power Of Myth By Joseph Campbell
Heroes can be explained in many different ways. Heroes can be said to have specific features like
being ultimately stronger than everyone else, being able to use special powers to defeat their enemy,
or just being able to accomplish something that they themselves or other people thought that they
could never do. Through many years of studying different cultures and their historic myth, people are
able to come up with a theory on how many of the myths complete their heroic cycle.
Joseph Campbell has spent many years studying different cultures and their myths in order to find out
the true qualities of a hero. In the series Power of Myth where he sits down and talks about his

A hero can be at the burning house physically helping put out the fire, down the street putting their life
on the line to catch the convict, or in the closest church spreading the word of their religion and how it
has affect their life. Everywhere you go you can always find a hero nearby. The one that is like family
to me that I consider a hero is my elementary teacher. She is there for anyone at any time. Starting at a
young age, she was not always the best or brightest person around. She has told stories of the things
that she has done and the trouble that she and her friends use to cause. In her late teens she decided
this would not be the type of person that she wanted to be and decided to change the way that she was
behaving. She started going to church and found programs that helped her change her way. After a
while she started to reach out to her old friends and eventually got a few of them to change with her.
After a while of this she decided she needed to help more people and more families and not just the
friends and family that she knows best. She started to go to college and became a teacher that way
every year she could help out at least another twenty kids and their families. For the past 48 years she
has continuously helped out these families year after year. She has also reached out even farther and
has helped children out by being a foster parent. Almost every year she would be given a child or two
and has had to raise the kid for the year until someone was able to properly give them a home. Many
of these children had mental problems from being switched in and out of homes and once she got
them she was able to fully understand them and help them out tremendously, then after a couple
months they were able to find a permanent home where she would send them and then get her next

Unemployment Rate In The United States
Sypnosis (50 100 words)
The U.S. employment rate has fallen, resulting in the addition of 173000 jobs, which is below
expectations. This is mostly due to people searching for jobs or giving up on doing so. This, along
with a jittery stock market and uneven growth, has created doubt in the U.S. economy s ability to
handle a rate increase. Inflation and economic growth also contributes to the unemployment rate in the
U.S.
Analysis (500 700 words)
This article is related to macroeconomic which examines how the economy functions and its
performance. Unemployment as a whole is related to macroeconomics. There are many reasons as to
why a person could be unemployed. He or she could be retrenched, fired or still be looking for a job.
However, if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inflation is when there in an increase in price of goods and service, causing there to be a fall in the
currency as lesser goods and services can be brought by each unit of currency due to the rise in price.
Rapid economic growth will often lead to inflation. When the economy is rapidly growing, a company
will need to employ more employees, resulting to a fall in unemployment rate. As unemployment rate
falls, lesser people will be looking for jobs and the company will find it harder to fill up job vacancies.
This will cause the salaries of the workers as well as company spending to increase, resulting in the
company passing on the extra costs to the consumer. Together with the raise in salaries for the
employees, they will have more to spend, resulting in an increase in an aggregate demand. All this will
result in rapid economic growth, where the increase in price will cause inflation to occur.
Conclusion ( 50 100 words)
Rapid economic growth is one thing we should avoid as this could lead to inflation which could result
in recession or even worse situation. Inflation results in an increase in price which will make it
difficult to predict future goods and service cost. Investments in the country will be lower causing the
country to have even poorer economic growth (EconomicsHelp, n.d.). Unemployment is therefore an
important factor as it will affect the economic

Trauma In Haiti Sociology
When compared to the living standards of people in so called first world countries such as the United
States of America or Australia, the trauma that the people of Haiti undergo in their everyday existence
should be universally recognised, and humanitarian intervention should not be an option but rather a
requirement. In an ethnography delving into the violence and trauma affecting the citizens of Haiti

The Black Power movement resembled another phase, known as the Revolutionary Nationalist. This
particular revolutionary action improved the status of African American by striking fear into white
supremacy. Thus, inflicting verbal and physical pain are actions that crippled African Americans for

heyday is marked in the American Imagination by race riots, gun toting black militants, and the

Pimps tend to choose their targets wisely by taking advantage of their social and economical
disadvantages. According to the article Sex Trafficking of Women and Girls, typically, the countries
from which many of the victims originate have unstable political climates and are economically
disadvantaged (Deshpande and Nour). Victims are taken away from their families and loved ones,
isolated in a foreign country, and unable to speak the language they need in order to ask for help.
Traffickers are highly skilled profiteers who use a variety of tactics to trap their victims. They give
their girls false promises such as education opportunities, job opportunities, and false marriages in
order to obtain American citizenship. They also use a tactic known as debt bondage where they expect
their victims to provide personal or sexual services to pay a portion of their debt (Deshpande and
Nour). Also, pimps use emotional techniques to recruit women. They tend to act as if they are the only
ones who care about their victims and provide them with their basic needs such as food and shelter in

William Hogarth Age Of Reason
The Age of Reason was named for the years from 1700 to 1789 where the best minds passionately
believed in the power of knowledge to improve both the individual and society (EH 437). This time
was part of the Enlightenment, where educated minds were highly thought of and logical thinking was
favored over emotions. It was during this time that William Hogarth (1697 1764) lived and produced
paintings. One of his many famous sets is still notable to this day: Marriage a la Mode, an oil on
canvas six piece series. It is considered a social satire during the time it was produced, which we can
still prove by analyzing the 6 pieces it encapsulates. Using this analysis, we can see how it expresses

Essay on The Ins and Outs of Service Charges for Flat Rentals
The ins and outs of service charges
Services charges will be a common occurrence for those living in a flat, as they play a part in how the
building is taken care of and maintained. Service charges are considered the only measurable and
manageable way to cover the buildings maintenance costs. If you live in a converted house, odds are
you won t need to pat monthly service charges, but in some cases you may be asked to pay such
charges either quarterly, half yearly or annually,
The purpose of service charges is to cover general repairs, regular cleaning and employment of certain
building staff. In some instances service charges may cover building insurance, but this isn t always

The following is what would qualify as expensive:
Work that costs more than £250 per flat
Services (general repairs, gardening or cleaning) that cost £100 or more per flat
Don t accept the freeholders word for any repairs that are set to take place, they should provide you
with copies of two or more estimates that they have taken out for the work in question. Also, one of
the quotes should be obtained from an independent contractor that has no connection to the freeholder.
The only instance in which a freeloader can go ahead with a repair without your consent is if it is
deemed urgent. If you feel you haven t been consulted properly or in due time, then it may be worth
seeking legal advice as you may not have to be held accountable for the work.
Challenging service charges
If you feel that the services you re receiving are sub par or un satisfactory you should write to the
freeholder detailing your concerns. In such instances they may lower the rate you pay going forward
or compensate you in some way. If the freeholder is unreasonable and refuses to better the building
services, you can take the disagreement to a Leasehold Valuation Tribunal (LVT). They will decide if
your complaints are valid and hold the freeholder accountable if so.
Responding to poor service
In rare cares freeholders may charge for

Media s Impact On The Media
Most of us watch television or listen to the radio on our commute in order to be up to date with the
surrounding events. We depend on those sources of mass media to relay relevant and reliable
information in order for us to understand pressing issues and formulate our opinions pertaining to the
best approach in dealing with those issues. But what if the information relayed to us is biased and
skewed or worse yet if those sources of information divert attention away from pressing matters and
place the individuals in an oblivious state.
The fact of the matter is that news organizations are more trusted sources of information than are
many other institutions, including government and business. And the public s impression of the

safety officials were investigating an issue with certain GE airplane engines that had faulty parts that
can disintegrate and cause a catastrophic failure, a problem that affected more than four thousand
airplanes that transport thousands of passengers every day. The writer continues to state that he found
this information to be very important to the public and that it needs to be covered by the news channel
he worked for which was CNBC at the time, part of NBC network. But since NBC is owned by GE
the agency decided not to run the story.
Another persistent matter is the distraction and the diversion of public attention by the media, a
strategy that is used as the primary element of social control. Its sole goal is to drive attention away
from important issues and changes determined by the political and economic elites, by the technique
of flooding continuous distractions and insignificant information.

It was an introductory class on physical chemistry and our chemistry teacher was teaching us the
allotropes of carbon. At the end of the class, he asked us, What do you think makes a small piece of
diamond more precious than tons of charcoal, although they are made up of same carbon atoms? Is it
its appearance? No. It s the pressure that the carbon endured for thousands of years to become a
diamond . A diamond is just a piece of charcoal that handled the pressure well , he quoted. No

The Cons Of Concealed Handgun
Handguns play a large part in crime, especially those that lead to fatal results. It has been the subject
of extensive policy and academic debate for the past few years in particular, as many events leading to
deaths occur in places many people consider safe zones. There are states that have issued the right to
have a concealed handgun in public, and other places that have tough systems for even obtaining a
license for gun ownership. Some people believe carrying handguns in public will help protect them in
the long run if a dangerous situation occurs, while some others believe that many dangerous situations
occur from those that carry guns, becoming the threat in public. This paper will examine the cons of
allowing concealed handguns in public, along with analyzing/rebutting some pros identified with this
health topic, followed by a proposed public health policy to address this important health topic.
Statistically, it has been recorded that crimes such as burglary, robbery, and simple assaults, were
commonly conducted by non licensed handgun holders, and crimes with larger death rates, such as
sexual offenses were conducted by concealed handgun licensed holders (Phillips 2013). This shows
that increasing settings in which concealed carry is allowed may also increase the rate of specific and
sometimes serious crimes in the public. It is also shown that those that commit crimes such as
burglary and robbery, frequently have a gun that is not even licensed to them. With

Research Report On The Red Line Essay
Figure # 6 Stress is the result of both trends and events in climate (Jentsch et al. 2007). The red line
indicates a shifting baseline level of forest stress through time due to an increasing trend in
temperature; the grey line represents stress changes due to multi year oscillations in precipitation and
temperature that are inherent in the climate system, producing stress events like extreme droughts and
heat waves. Atmospheric warming increases both baseline and extreme drought stresses through time,
thereby driving elevated tree mortality vulnerability. Increasing temperature alone drives greater forest
drought stress (Adams et al. 2009, Williams et al. 2013), and because temperature is increasing
chronically, so is forest stress. Swings in forest drought stress push forests closer (or further) from the
historical mortality threshold (dashed black line), but given the chronic increase in forest stress
associated with ongoing anthropogenic warming, the frequency, magnitude, and duration of these
swings above the mortality threshold increase through time. If unabated, chronic warming eventually
will cause even relatively wet periods to exceed the mortality stress threshold for present day forests
(Allen, Breshears, McDowell, 2015).
Mr. Anderegg designed a model that quantified drought stress as climatic water deficit (CWD) the
difference between plant water demand, which is determined by atmospheric water demand (here,
potential evapotranspiration, (PET), and plant

The Stranger Character Analysis
The Stranger by Albert Camus follows the story of a man named Meursault, who received notice that
his mother had passed away. Meursault was not emotionally connected to his mother, and his reaction
is not what the reader would expect, as he did not seem to care at all. Therefore, the day after
attending his mother s funeral, Meursault goes to the beach and meets up with his girlfriend, Marie.
After the beach, Meursault and Marie go to a movie and spend the night together. When he returns
home from work the next day, Meursault runs into his neighbor, Raymond, who beats his mistress.

Marie, Meursault s girlfriend, is extremely emotionally attached to Meursault, and this is a weakness.
Marie is dependent on Meursault as her source of happiness, even though Meursault does not show
that he really cares about Marie. When asked if he loved her, he replied it didn t mean anything and
that [he] probably didn t love her (41). Most people would despise being in a relationship in which
they re unloved by their partner. However, Marie stays with Meursault, even if he does not actually

emotionally attached to someone who does not feel the same way about her. However, Marie s
neediness also allows her to be extremely loyal. Loyalty is normally a strength, but Marie takes it to
another level and makes her loyalty a weakness. Marie visited Meursault in prison and assures him [he

goes to jail and is sentenced to death, Marie stays with him almost all the way to the end of Meursault

  • 2. Investigate and find the relationship between heat loss... To investigate the relationship between surface area : volume ratio and heat loss. INTRODUCTION: The aim of this experiment is to investigate and find the relationship between heat loss (of water) and surface area to volume ratio of animals. To investigate this, we are going to use three flasks of different volume (as the equivalent the animals) and thus different surface areas filled with water. BACKGROUND: Surface Area : Volume Ratios We will be using the following formula for calculating SA:Vol ratios: SA : Vol Vol : Vol 100ml flask = 115 : 100 = 1.15 : 1 100 : 100 250ml flask = 230 : 250 = 0.92 : 1 250 : 250 500ml flask = 330 : 500 = 0.66:1 500 : 500 The factors effecting heat loss: 1.Energy Levels 2.Climate / air ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second and third experiment was also accurate, however the line of best fit does not go through all the points, in the evaluation section I can explain why this could be. On the graphs I have plotted the basic formula of a linear line of y = mx + c. As we can see the
  • 3. gradient for the 100ml flask at 0.97 was fractionally (0.01 out) more than double that of the 500ml flask at 0.48 which proves to us the prediction was correct. So as a statement we can say: Heat loss occurs at twice the speed for the 100ml flask than the 500ml flask due to the fact that the gradient of the line of best fit for the 100ml flask is double that of the 500ml flask. Also we can see that the 250ml flask lost it s waters heat at somewhere between that of the 100ml and 500ml flask, proving my prediction correct. From the results I can say that, SA to volume ratio does affect the rate of heat loss. Evaluation of Results: I thought that most of my results were very accurate. However there were a number of points out of place that I could improve on. On the 250ml experiment the reading between six and eight minutes appeared to be incorrect compared with the average heat loss in the same experiment. This could have been ... • 5. Sports Athletes Should Not Be Better Than Their Opponent Introduction In the world of sports, competitive athletes are willing to do whatever is necessary to be better than their opponent. The nature of the competitive drive in some athletes is precisely what separates the average from the elite. Compared to their novice counterparts, elite athletes usually have a more extensive knowledge base of sport specific information and are more adept at using said knowledge efficiently to identify, remember and manipulate relevant information in their specialist sport (Swann, Moran, Piggott, 2015). In order to achieve max performance, an elite athlete must be skilled in their craft, meaning they are able to produce the skills needed reliably, on demand, and with very little luck. Demonstrating their skill ability by maximizing the certainty of the intended goal achievement, minimizing their energy expenditure (physically and mentally), and minimizing the time used (Schmidt Lee, 2015). An athletes cognitive performance will ultimately reflect in their physical capabilities. In today s society, elite athletes and their followers are consumed with idea of being even bigger, even faster, and even stronger than ever before. • 12. Love In Fahrenheit 451 Analysis The Theme of Love in Fahrenheit 451 A world full a blank expressionless faces connected to even more mindless robotic people. A world where one just breathes and eats, but never truly feels any emotion. Our world is on the way to becoming this, but for Millie and Montag this was a sad, sad, reality in Ray Bradbury s book Fahrenheit 451. Everything grows with time as did our main character Montag throughout the book. Montag begins as a mindless follower and evolves into a fearless leader. As he grows into this leader his relationship with Mildred goes through multiple changes. Montag and Millie s story is broken into three parts. Montag first and most briefly believes he and Millie were a fairy tale couple and then Clarisse made him realize that he was in a loveless relationship, but finally in the last few pages Montag comes to peace with everything that has happened. The time where Millie and Montag have a fairytale relationship is short lived but we can infer that they had had a perfect relationship for the years leading up to the beginning of this book. We can see an example of how Montag did everything in his power to ignore anything that threatened his relationship when he talks to Clarisse for the first time. Clarisse asks Montag if he is happy and Montag says quickly without much thought Of course I m happy. What does she think? I m not? (Bradburry 8). Montag answered this question as quickly as you d answer a simple addition problem. We see this happen in our world too. When someone asks How are you? the only socially acceptable response is I m fine . But no one can be fine all the time. • 13. The Issue Arising From The Monique s Case Essay Introduction: The issue arising from the Monique s case is the direct applicability of the Treaty Articles and the direct or indirect effect of Directives, provided by the European Union. Monique may be able to rely on both Article 18 and 45 of TFEU which concerns any kind of discrimination against EU citizens. The Council Directive 14/08 will be examined whether it is direct or indirect applicable, or if it can be applicable under the principle of state liability. In the case where one of the above can be established, Monique will be able to seek compensations against either Conker Plc or the United Kingdom s State for non implementation of the directive. Treaty Articles Direct Effect: In 1974, when the European Council was created, all countries decided that treaties will be agreed together and they cannot be enforceable if they are not approved democratically from all Member States. Treaties are at the top of the European Union s hierarchy and they are primary legislations which give rights to Member states and European citizens but also create obligations to the European States to implement the new law into their own domestic law. Also, Treaties sets the European Union s constitutional basis and, as stated in the case of Costa, they cannot be overridden by any national law. Articles 3,4 and 6 of the TFEU provides the areas where European Union have exclusive competences, shared and supporting competences respectively and the Union shall act only within the ... • 14. Adoption Of A New Ehr Despite some barriers and challenges of EHR adoption, transitioning our office to paperless has become inevitable. Timely adoption of EHR would help our clinic receive incentives, merge paper records into the new database, and better organize patient information. In order to ensure the most seamless implementation possible, meticulous planning will be a must. First, the process of acquiring a new EHR system will start with developing an office strategy based on different needs of our clinic. Some critical questions should be asked such as what would be the main goal to go paperless, what would be some features that my clinicians regard important, would my practitioners need a remote access, or would they be committed in learning and using ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anita Ground also stresses on the huge importance of this planning stage by using a concept of system life cycle. It consists of feasibility study, analysis, design, programming, implementation, and lastly maintenance (Ground, 2011, VA TMS training material). The analysis phase in particular would coincide with what the author Yoshihashi is presenting in figuring out office strategy and researching EHR options. Identification of stakeholders and system requirement would play a critical role in EHR adoption (Ground, 2011). Stakeholders would include patients, family, clinicians, billing, registration, and coding as well as the external users such as Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Bottom line is that the new system being purchased would need to provide meaningful use to the clinic based on the current certification standards. Health information technology (HIT) consultants would be able to provide valuable guidance in filtering information and narrowing the search down to a few that can work for this clinic. In order to get the best recommendation among many vendors out there, the following information would need to be provided and answered. 1) The inputting method: keyboard, mouse, stylus, touch screen, or voice recognition 2) Work flow including telephone triage, lab ordering, appointments, scheduling, and ... Chemistry And Chemical Testing In Chemistry Priya Talwar Chemistry 1411 008, (Group 06 Partners: Esther, Bethany, Sophia) 19 October, 2017 CSI: How to identify an unknown white powder Jiayue Sun Introduction The Identity of a chemical compound is extremely critical to observe. The identity can lead to discovering its properties and can aid in its classification. Thus scientist all around the world put high emphasis on the procedure to identify a compound through the flame test and chemical testing. Flame test works to identify the cation within the compound, while chemical testing using certain compounds and acid identifies the anion. Flame test uses the differences of energy levels of an element. When the flame, from the micro burner used, excites the electrons in their ground state, the electrons absorb the energy and move to a higher energy level. Yet since the ground state is preferred, the electrons tend to move down the energy level and emit the extra energy absorbed. This type of energy is emitted through photon and wavelength, a characteristic of light. Thus, each element emits a certain type light which can be used to identify it by consulting a chart with all the documented flame test results. In Particular for this experiment, the test for ammonia and Magnesium is conducted with the addition of sodium hydroxide and the observing for the presence of the odor of ammonia for ammonia or precipitate for magnesium. The chemical testing uses compounds including acids and alkaline to combine with the element. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though a façade is put on, one realizes how vulnerable Hulga Hopewell actually is. Her encounter with a Bible salesman, Manley Pointer, shows how one cannot trust even good country people (2). Symbolism in this story transforms what one perceives the character of Hulga and Manley to be and allows the reader to make deeper connections about their physical and mental flaws. The main, and most noticeable, symbol is Hulga Joy Hopewell s artificial leg. She is as sensitive about it as a peacock about its tail (8). The roughness of her personality matches that of her wooden leg. Since becoming handicapped, she removes all feelings for others, herself, and the belief in a higher power. She feels that she is not of value anymore and not worth the dust of her existence (11) so she changes her name to Hulga, which she believes is the ugliest name in all languages. Her leg is used as a tool to illustrate to others her miserable state. She stomps around and purposely makes an ugly sounding (9) noise. As bad as the situation of losing her leg may be, what is worse is how she uses it. The leg, though inanimate and built to be very strong, is her crutch, both literally and psychologically. This crutch is what makes her so weak and bitter. When Hulga says to her mother, Mrs. Hopewell, if you want me, here I am like I am (2) this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Inflation is when there in an increase in price of goods and service, causing there to be a fall in the currency as lesser goods and services can be brought by each unit of currency due to the rise in price. Rapid economic growth will often lead to inflation. When the economy is rapidly growing, a company will need to employ more employees, resulting to a fall in unemployment rate. As unemployment rate falls, lesser people will be looking for jobs and the company will find it harder to fill up job vacancies. This will cause the salaries of the workers as well as company spending to increase, resulting in the company passing on the extra costs to the consumer. Together with the raise in salaries for the employees, they will have more to spend, resulting in an increase in an aggregate demand. All this will result in rapid economic growth, where the increase in price will cause inflation to occur. It has been the subject of extensive policy and academic debate for the past few years in particular, as many events leading to deaths occur in places many people consider safe zones. There are states that have issued the right to have a concealed handgun in public, and other places that have tough systems for even obtaining a license for gun ownership. Some people believe carrying handguns in public will help protect them in the long run if a dangerous situation occurs, while some others believe that many dangerous situations occur from those that carry guns, becoming the threat in public. This paper will examine the cons of allowing concealed handguns in public, along with analyzing/rebutting some pros identified with this health topic, followed by a proposed public health policy to address this important health topic. Statistically, it has been recorded that crimes such as burglary, robbery, and simple assaults, were commonly conducted by non licensed handgun holders, and crimes with larger death rates, such as sexual offenses were conducted by concealed handgun licensed holders (Phillips 2013). This shows that increasing settings in which concealed carry is allowed may also increase the rate of specific and sometimes serious crimes in the public. The red line indicates a shifting baseline level of forest stress through time due to an increasing trend in temperature; the grey line represents stress changes due to multi year oscillations in precipitation and temperature that are inherent in the climate system, producing stress events like extreme droughts and heat waves. Atmospheric warming increases both baseline and extreme drought stresses through time, thereby driving elevated tree mortality vulnerability. Increasing temperature alone drives greater forest drought stress (Adams et al. 2009, Williams et al. 2013), and because temperature is increasing chronically, so is forest stress. Swings in forest drought stress push forests closer (or further) from the historical mortality threshold (dashed black line), but given the chronic increase in forest stress associated with ongoing anthropogenic warming, the frequency, magnitude, and duration of these swings above the mortality threshold increase through time. If unabated, chronic warming eventually will cause even relatively wet periods to exceed the mortality stress threshold for present day forests (Allen, Breshears, McDowell, 2015). Mr. Anderegg designed a model that quantified drought stress as climatic water deficit (CWD) the difference between plant water demand, which is determined by atmospheric water demand (here, potential evapotranspiration, (PET), and plant ... • 34. Photoshop Research Paper Do photoshopped pictures need to be labeled as altered? Is it destroying young girls confidence? Photoshop has been used to make people appear like they have the perfect body and this has put a lot of pressure on young girls. Although photoshop might make the model look skinnier, magazines and websites should not be able to retouch images without labeling them as altered because it causes unrealistic body expectations, eating disorders, and even more insecurities. Photoshop causes young girls to have unrealistic body expectations. A Girl Scouts USA survey found that eighty nine percent of teenage girls feel the fashion industry pressures them to be skinnier. The images are deceptive and make models unrealistically thin, and that is how some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Marie, Meursault s girlfriend, is extremely emotionally attached to Meursault, and this is a weakness. Marie is dependent on Meursault as her source of happiness, even though Meursault does not show that he really cares about Marie. When asked if he loved her, he replied it didn t mean anything and that [he] probably didn t love her (41). Most people would despise being in a relationship in which they re unloved by their partner. However, Marie stays with Meursault, even if he does not actually love her. Marie staying in a relationship where she is not even loved, is the result of her being emotionally attached to someone who does not feel the same way about her. However, Marie s neediness also allows her to be extremely loyal. Loyalty is normally a strength, but Marie takes it to another level and makes her loyalty a weakness. Marie visited Meursault in prison and assures him [he will] get out [of prison] and [they will] get married (75). Even though Meursault murders someone, goes to jail and is sentenced to death, Marie stays with him almost all the way to the end of Meursault s life. Most people would not be comfortable getting married to a murderer. However, Marie still wanted to get married to Meursault because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
