The Birth and Death of the Amercan Dream
Adam Walder s Vision for UGHH: Adam Walder is both a zealous and determined businessman who
devotes his full efforts to consistently attaining his ambitions. When he began drafting the first lines of
code for Underground Hip Hop, Walder had one goal: he just wanted people to hear [his] music (p. 2).
Walder s passion for his hobby is what drove him to initial success, but it was his dedication to bring
underground rap and hip hop music to his fans that allowed for future accomplishments. Walder had a
handle on his market segmentation, easily identifying the sociocultural factor of taste in hip hop
music, to propel his business (Hill, 440). By creating a functioning feedback loop on his site that

A businessperson who wants to do everything himself/herself will quickly find that he/she is making
no progress. Walder needs to trust his employee s abilities, and get past his fears of programmers
quitting, leaving unfinished code. (p. 8). To combat this fear of losing employees, Walder should focus
on creating and solidifying a strong organizational culture, instilling certain values among workers
(Hill, 341). As the company grows in size, Walder will need to make more hires, especially on the
technical side of operations. If not, he will be unable to keep the website functioning properly with the
influx of site traffic as UGHH grows and develops. UGHH Financing Adam Walder sees his debt free
business, a result of internally funded business practices, as a fact to boast about. Although this
process does protect UGHH from accumulating too much debt, it also limits the company s expansion
significantly. Debt can be harmful to many businesses, but there is also a concept called good debt ;
the debt a company incurs to propagate it forward and expedite business processes. If UGHH were to
take out loans and allow itself to acquire debt, it could have expanded into a suitable warehouse
sooner, ordered more merchandise and marketed itself effectively. The current financing strategy that
UGHH utilizes causes it to miss out on strategic business opportunities and limit its growth.

Causes Of Hurricane Katrina
There were several issues that played a part in the disaster of New Orleans afte Hurricane Katrina had
struck. Due to neglence of the five agencies ( that were responsible for designing, building, and
maintaining the New Orleans Hurricane Protection System led to insuffiecent preparation. Even after
declaring a state of emergency, lack of coordinating between Federal Emergency Management Agency
(FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) resulted in a poor response to help render
aid and deliver supplies to the people of New Orleans. There are many stakeholders involved in this
catastrophe. To name a few: Residents of New Orleans, businesses, engineers, and schools. Indirect
stakeholders would involve groups like FEMA , Emergency Responders, and government (local, state,
federal) levels. Residents of New Orleans experienced the brunt of Hurricane Katrina when the levees
had been breached. Due to New Orleans being below sea leavel, flooding was eminent. The residents
who had evacuated were forced to leave everything behind to escape the wrath of Hurricane Katrina.
They were forced to high grounds in Baton Rouge and travelled as far as Houston, Tx. Others who
had made the decision to stay were forced to their rooftops to avoid high waters. Unfortunately, this
storm claimed 1500 people. Enginners were directly involved because their design and repairs failed
to meet the requirements to ensure the durability of the Hurricane protection system. Schools were

My Field Experience At Bushwick United Head Start Program
For my field experience, I had the opportunity to observe a four year old pre kindergarten classroom
on November 5th and 12th at Bushwick United Head Start program. The school is located at 136
Stanhope street, Brooklyn, N.Y. Majority of the families the school serve are Hispanics, and as a
result, the student body entails mostly ELL students. There are approximately 130 students enrolled in
the program, and out of that 130, about 10% speaks English. The school uses an additive model of
English Language to support both the student s home language and foster and support English
language acquisition. The classrooms are staffed with teachers who speak the children s home
language, who can apply some use of the home language within the classroom and providing hands on
experiences for students. Additionally, to support students with disability, the school also partnered
with United Community Services (UCS), a program that offers speech therapy, occupational therapy
and physical therapy to students. The school uses the evidence based Creative Curriculum. The
Creative Curriculum is aligned with Head Start Performance Standards, NAEYC guidelines and the
NY State Prekindergarten Common Core Standards. The classroom I observed consists of seventeen
students, eight of which girls and nine are boys. Of the seventeen students, nine receive services from
UCS, and five of which understood and speak English, though not fluently. The students are often

However, there has been, and continues to be, vigorous debate on what the optimum daily intake of
vitamin C is. Some have argued that 200 mg/day is an optimal daily intake for adult humans. Others
have suggested 1 2 g/day is best, this despite studies that show that the blood is saturated with vitamin
C at 100 mg/day, and any excess is excreted in the urine [RDA,1995; RDA,1987; Browne.,1993;

Theme Of Justice In Death And The Maiden
The Oxford English Dictionary defines justice as The administration of the law or authority in
maintaining this .1 In the play, Death and the Maiden, the playwright, Ariel Dorfman, presents his
characters with three conflicting definitions of justice. Gerardo Escobar, a lawyer, epitomizes a man
who believes in law and the way the judiciary system works. Conversely, Paulina Salas, Gerardo s
wife, distrusts the legal system and wants to take justice into her own hands. She wants to achieve
justice by whatever mean necessary: being vindictive and viciously unforgiving or being fair and
reasonable.
In Death and The Maiden, Gerardo represents judicial justice and those Chilean s who want to

disgust toward Paulina s action when she refuses to treat Miranda fairly. He is certain that she has no

him. To Gerardo, Paulina is just looking to satisfy [her] own personal passion 11 through vengeance
while disguising it as personal justice. Overall, Gerardo s actions clearly show his expectations for the
nation to overcome and reveal the crimes committed by the dictatorship in what is presumably the
most righteous and peaceful ways to prevent the country from falling into anarchy.
In the play, Paulina s form of justice is portrayed in two different ways: vengeful and forgiving. Both
portrayals represent a sector of Chile s population who were tortured under Pinochet s regime. One of
Paulina s attitudes criminals is merciful towards criminals and aspires to forgive and forget whereas
the other yearns for revenge and a more vigilante type of justice. Arguing with Gerardo, Paulina

Opening Scene Of Bassanio
The audience is first acquainted with Bassanio in the opening scene of the play, where he seeks to lend
money from his disconsolate friend, Antonio.
In Act 1 Scene 1, Gratiano and Lorenzo leave Antonio and Bassanio alone. At this moment, Bassanio
reveals his financial crisis. Bassanio tells Antonio Tis unknown to you, Antonio/How much I have
disabled mine estate and also states To unburden all my plots and purposes/How to get clear of all the
debts I owe. Bassanio is admitting to Antonio that he has squandered his wealth. Here we perceive
him to be a young man who has a habit of spending money frivolously, which builds on the idea that
he is irresponsible. The audience is also displeased with Bassanio because he isn t as solicitous as ...

Bassanio makes Lancelot feel welcome as his new servant by demanding a follower of his to Give him

Shortly before Bassanio and Gratiano take a trip to Belmont, Bassanio points out to Gratiano Thou art
too wild, too rude, too bold of voice. He isn t unfairly criticising him, Bassanio wants to make a good
impression on Portia. Bassanio needs to be entitled to a high class status when he reaches Belmont, so
that he can woo Portia. This suggests that he wants to make an effort to please her, and he is possibly
worthy of her love after all.
While he is in Belmont, Portia makes an absolute declaration of love by stating One half of me is
yours, the other half yours. At this point, Bassanio is aware of the fact that Portia is definitely in love
with him. However, he feels guilty when he says Let me choose/For as I am, I live upon the rack. In
this extended metaphor of torture, Portia replies Then confess/What treason there is mingled with your
love. This metaphor speaks about trust and suggests that Bassanio wants to tell Portia the truth about
his financial status, but he s unwilling to because he is afraid of disappointing her. This language of
intimacy proves that he cares about Portia and does not want her to lose interest in him. Yet again, this
implies that he is worthy of Portia s

Lively Theatre Lively theatre is a live production that never stops. Lively theatre can happen

Cirrhosis and Related Liver Disorders
Cirrhosis and Related Liver Disorders
The liver is the largest gland and second largest organ in the human body. It is also the only internal
organ capable of regeneration following injury. Located in the abdominal cavity, this reddish brown
organ is divided into lobes of different size and shape. The liver plays a critical role in metabolism,
digestion, elimination, and detoxification, among other processes. This organ performs a surprisingly
large number of functions that influence virtually all other body systems. This is why diseases of the
liver can be so devastating. One class of chronic diseases affecting the liver is cirrhosis. (Kasper,

These cells are also responsible for the regenerative capabilities of the liver. Specialized macrophages,
called Kupffer cells, also inhabit the liver. These cells are capable of filtering bacteria and toxins from
the blood. Kupffer cell activation is also responsible for early alcohol induced liver injury. In a
cirrhotic liver these cells are replaced by scar tissue. Some of the damaged cells in the liver continue
to divide and form nodules. This restricts blood supply and greatly reduces liver function. (Kasper,
2008) The liver is essential to digestion and subsequent metabolic processes. It is a plays a large part
in the processing of carbohydrates and lipids. As carbohydrates are absorbed in the small intestine,
they are first brought to the liver via the portal vein. Depending on the needs of the body, the liver will
either store excess glucose as glycogen or breakdown glycogen to release glucose into the
bloodstream. Lipids are not soluble in water and cannot be efficiently absorbed without bile produced
by the liver. Bile emulsifies fats and allows lipase, an essential protease produced by the pancreas, to
effectively break down complex lipids for absorption. The liver also detoxifies the body by trapping
toxins that have entered through digestion, the skin, or the respiratory system. The first way that the
liver detoxifies the body is through filtering the blood. It removes viruses, bacteria, and

Breast Reconstruction Surgery with a Tissue Expander in Orange County Stage Two
During this second surgical procedure, Dr. Esmailian removes the expander and places the patient s

The two stage breast reconstruction process is also referred to as delayed immediate breast

If a patient does not require radiation therapy, Dr. Esmailian can begin the reconstruction process,

How Atticus Finch and Elie Wiesel Demonstrate Heoric...
According to Umberto Eco, The real hero is always a hero by mistake.... In other words, one doesn t
act heroic as a lifestyle, but by surprise when the time comes to do so. To be heroic means to put
others before you in a desperate time of someone else s despair. Two works of literature that agree
with the critical lens are the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, written by Harper Lee and the memoir,
Night, by Elie Wiesel. Atticus Finch and Elie Wiesel both demonstrate heroic actions unintentionally.

how to deal with daily conflicts in life. When the father of the girl who was raped spit in Atticus face,
he said that he would take getting spit in the face as many times as it saves the girl from getting beaten

he said although they were mad they were still good people. Atticus symbolized a hero; he always
wanted to give everyone else the benefit of the doubt. He always looked for the good in everything.
Elie Wiesel was the protagonist of the memoir Night who overcomes many obstacles while in the

What Are The Rewards In Walden Economy
In Walden Economy , Thoreau states that For a long time I was a reporter to a journal, of no very wide
circulation, whose editor has never yet seen fit to print the bulk of my contributions, and, as is too
common with writers, I got only my labor for my pains. However, in this case, my pains were their
own reward. This pain is written to be a reward for Thoreau. The reward that is received is the reward
of hard work and learning. Even though Thoreau had a very low job in the journalism industry, and
made many works for the business, many never saw the light of day. What is understood though, is
that he was not very angry or disappointed with the results, but instead found a sort of happiness or

better, but it also helps in forming habits that last a lifetime. The reward is much deeper than writing.
A life lesson only learned through failure is earned. The lesson is that through failure, you find
success. Many of history s greats have all learned the lesson and never stopped after their first failure,
but instead learned and continued to work hard to achieve their goals. This lesson of pain being a
reward is shown throughout my life. Through high school, grades never came easy, studying hard and
through plenty of gruesome hours was necessary for success. I struggled in applying myself to study
every night and took a more relaxed and fun approach to the high school life. This turned into failure
quickly and through the failure, I was forced to form study habits and get rid of many distractions.
This failure was required in understanding how to become successful through my academic career, as
well as life. This lesson is applied to me waking up every morning with a positive attitude and work

A roommate is what Karkat needed, in fact it was something he has been in need of for a quite a while
now. For three months he had been struggling to pay his rent, and during those three months he had
refused to even allow himself to event think of posting a picture up. He had too much pride for that
and felt that he just needed a little more time before he was finally settled. Though as the fourth month
started to come around he realized that he was in deeper then he had imagined. He was starting to fall
behind on payments and it had already took a rather tremendous dent into his savings. Soon he would
be living from paycheck to paycheck with no money to even spend on himself, let alone any extra
food that he would want. So with a heavy

Madeleine Leininger Transcultural Nursing Theory
Transcultural Nursing Theory by Madeleine Leininger Tranette K Baca Central New Mexico
Community College June 9, 2017 Madeleine Leininger Madeleine Leininger was born July 13, 1925
in Sutton, Nebraska. She is known for developing the Transcultural Nursing Theory also known as the
Culture Care Theory .. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Human Sciences and Doctor of
Science. She was also a Registered Nurse and Certified Transcultural Nurse. Although Leininger
developed transcultural nursing theory in 1950 s, it wasn t published until four decades later in
Leininger s Culture Care Diversity and Universality (Petiprin, 2014). Leininger recognized that there
was an absence of cultural care knowledge while providing patient care. Therefore, purpose of
Transcultural Nursing Theory is to help nurses take in consideration the patient s culture and cultural
background when determining how to care for the patient (Petiprin, 2014). It also helps nurses to
become more understanding and respectful when it comes to diversity in culture and strengthen nurse
patient relationship. Madeleine Leininger s Transcultural theory is now incorporated into nursing
education to help improve health outcomes by knowing who our patients are as a whole. By doing this
we see patients as a whole, and not just viewing them simply a set of symptoms or an illness (Petiprin,
2014). Nurses can integrate patient s cultural background with the steps of the nursing process,

The Montgomery Bus Boycott Case Study
The problem with discrimination with transportation is that coloured people, specifically African
Americans, were not allowed to sit at the front of the bus and a lot of the time they had to give their
seat up to white person when travelling by air. The major issue in the 1950 s was the busses. Much
like the bathrooms and waiting areas African American people had a segregated section for them at the
back of the bus, or a separate, poor quality bathroom. From this coloured people felt even more
excluded as they already had specific bathrooms, waiting areas and even drinking fountains. They felt
like they couldn t even travel safely and most of the time they didn t travel safely without slurs being
thrown at them. A major incident was Rosa Parks refusing to move from her seat for a white man.
Rosa Parks got on the bus whilst no one was on there, she thought it would be safe for her to sit at the
front of the bus. A white male arrived on the bus and told Parks to move, she refused to move for the
man. This incident got Rosa Parks thrown off the bus, arrested and fined $10 plus $4 from the court.
This was a lot of money back in the 50 s.
Protest
Because of Rosa Parks not giving up her seat on the bus this started a peaceful protest. This is how the
Montgomery bus boycott started. The Montgomery Bus Boycott is where African Americans refused
to rise the city buses in Montgomery, Alabama, to protest segregated seating in buses. It took place
from December 5th, 1955, to December

Ethical Boundaries Misused in Today’s Clinical Psychology...
Ethical Boundaries Misused in Today s Clinical Psychology In today s psychology profession, a
therapist and even the client can cross many boundaries if immediate boundaries are not put into place
during the initial visit. Some boundaries that are crossed are not a problem at first and then the
problem progresses. Leonard L. Glass called these, the gray areas of boundary crossing and violation
(429). However, there is further description, Boundary issues mostly refer to the therapist s self
disclosure, touch, an exchange of gifts, bartering and fees, length and location of sessions and contact
outside the office (Guthiel Gabbard). This statement by Thomas G. Gutheil, M.D. Glen O. Gabbard,

How Therapist Self Disclosure And Non Disclosure Affects Clients , stated that, The study results
suggest that therapist self‐disclosure has both positive and negative treatment implications. It depends
on how therapeutic the self disclosure would benefit the client in that given situation, and the client s
receptiveness to what information is given to them; for example, one patient may respond positively to
a therapist s self disclosure that reveals another safe point of view of an issue, while another patient
might feel that therapist s has over stepped their boundaries. Madill et al. stated that, These were
sometimes attributed to inexperience and sometimes the characteristics of the total situation, such as
events from the therapist s personal life (13). There are times when sharing something from the
therapist can help explain an issue that is present during the time of that therapy appointment. Another
problem with a therapist s self disclosure is that after years of treatment, the therapist can run out of
examples to use to clarify a point made during the appointment. Years and years of treatment
sometimes cover issues where the therapist, will add something about himself or herself. People who
tend to talk for a very long time during therapy can relate on a level that is not crossing the
boundaries. In addition, self disclosure may be a major problem for therapists who live and work in
rural communities, because

speaking in full sentences. Saying maybe, I guess and yes. She is seen; even in her own home she
could not express herself freely. More so revealing how she feels deep inside. Similarly, Martha shows
a straight face without revealing any emotions. In the scene where she asks her maid for milk she even
had to say leche in Spanish. Moreover, when she tried to have an impromptu perm, she suffers from a

Affirmative Action Goals
There are various goals to affirmative action. It can depend on the group that has been oppressed or
discriminated in the past. President Kennedy introduced this to redress the discrimination that
constantly happened due to the civil rights movement. This sought to guarantee the same opportunities
that the minority groups were excluded from. This was a temporary measure; its purpose was to level
the playing field for any American citizen. With affirmative action s there were bound to be
backlashes, one example of the Bakke case in 1978. Just as it was intended to level the efforts of
minority s, it brought controversy to the supreme court due to the manner the affirmative action was
considered. There are many reasons to this being why the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There have been many instances that the action has been taken or considered that it isn t fair to that
white worker. The reason being so is that conservatives say that it was or is a free ride on the
American system. Many whites and minorities support affirmative action but at the expense of white
worker will the white people accept? That s where controversy begins.one instance is the case of Allan
Bakke he at the time was much more classified to get in Davis school. The averages were 2.88 GPA
and average admissions test scores of 46 in verbal, 24 in math, 35 in science and 33 in general
knowledge. This case itself has bought a mixed result after the supreme court had decided a 5 4
decision. This brought a change in attitude on how to accept admissions from different races or
ethnics. Those goals may back fire to those who its intended to protect. The chances that created in the
education level back fired. In the Bakke case and Wygant vs Jackson Board of Education. The
opportunity give minorities to keep their job even if they had less seniority. They laid off those who
were thought it was necessary to be laid off. This provisions were sought to preserve those minority
teachers and in the process to hire more of the minority teachers while laying off those teachers who
had more seniority when necessary. The verdict of the Supreme court was that the layoff was
unconstitutional due to violating the Equal Protection

The And Hopi And Zuni Tribes
The Earth existed for at least 4.5 billion years before modern humans came into being. The different
cultures of the world have different ideas or stories of how humans came to be. The Hopi and Zuni
tribes have creation stories that were passed from generation to generation. These stories claim that the
world, despite being made before man, is meant to be ruled by and sustain mankind. Daniel Quinn s
novel, Ishmael, imagines its own creation myths to showcase how these stories work and the messages
that they send. The Native American myths referenced in this paper and in Ishmael rank mankind as
more important than the Earth through the timeframe of the creation stories, the way Earth is
described, and how mankind interacts with the Earth. Stories take place in time. Creation stories
commonly take place in the time before mankind is created and end once humans are roaming the
Earth, and the myths of the Hopi and Zuni are no different. When the creation myths end at that point,
they are marking the emergence of humans as the most important aspect of the story, and of all time.
The Zuni creation myth demonstrates this idea when it says, Sky Father, too, gives to humans
(Leeming 298). That quote is from the last paragraph of the Zuni creation myth and is an example of
how mankind s creation is what ends creation myths. The last few paragraphs of the Zuni creation
myth deal only with mankind s creation and living beings that are created for mankind s enjoyment
and sustenance

The Incorporation Of Music In The Middle Ages
Music has always been apart of my life ,from the tender age of six years old we have ever been apart.
The art form of musical arts will forever intrigue me and compel me to push myself to my musical
limit. The history of the evolution of music through the centuries is quite alluring. The formulation of
musical intellectually concepts and leaps of faith that composers at the time took, is in my opinion of
standing ovation recognition.
The development of music from the time line in the middle ages(450 1450) was known for
incorporation of music in the church that was done by the monks. As I listened to the pieces of music
done by the monks, their music known to be Gregorian chant, it really embodies serenity and the
sacred intent for the music. The resonation of the voices compliment the simplicity of the monophonic
arrangement of the chant. The use of the male voices gives a richness in texture to the chant.Later on
in the century there was the incorporation of chants composed by women, that explore the wider vocal
ranges. In my view the musical genius gene was not exclusive to just men alone this was clearly seen
with the composer Hildegard of Bingen. Her pieces of music was visionary ... Show more content on

Examples Of Biological Determinism In The 1800s
Biological determinism is the concept that most human characteristics, physical and mental, are
determined at conception by hereditary factors passed from parent to offspring. In the 1800s this was
the mindset of the majority of people. This was applied towards women and education. It was firmly
believed by many Universities and individuals that women should not get an education beyond basic
schooling. Most universities in the United States did not allow female students until the 1830s. It was
believed that because men s brains were bigger and had more grey matter they were superior to
women with a smaller brain size, women were also called childlike because of this size difference.
The thought was also presented that if women were educated

The Battle of Somme Essay
The British launched The Battle of the Somme to achieve two objectives. The first and most important
goal was to relieve pressure on the French Army at Verdun, and the second was to inflict as heavy a
loss as possible on the German Armies. The Battle of the Somme had to be fought to save the French
Army from the crucifixion of Verdun. The head of the French Army, General Fock, and some leading
British commanders did not believe this battle would help, but political masters in London and Paris
supported the campaign. For many years The Battle of the Somme received much criticism for the
way the battle was fought based on the number of casualties.

Haig expected a breakthrough of up to seven miles from the start line. Rawlinson believed they would
take a bite into the German trenches to be followed by more little bites to gain territory. Both generals
were proven wrong on their expectations, but Rawlinson s was the more realistic objective. The
artillery plan was that the field guns would destroy the German barbed wire in front of the trenches
and the heavy guns were to attack the enemy s artillery and trenches. The artillery was to be the key to
the offensive.
Another key point in key to being offensive was the enemy s position was situated on a high, rigid
piece of ground. Joffre s army had deep trenches with bomb proof shelters and wire encirclements.
When the attack started Haig s army just had to move the men into the remote safety zone of the
trench. When the attack stopped, the Germans would then know that this was the signal for an infantry
advance. Lastly, they would move from safety and keep their guns close by incase of an attack and to
face the British and French. Sadly, their weapons did not have the ability to cut all the wire and
destroy deep German trenches or knock out all enemy guns. It also could not provide a useful
bombardment for the infantry attack. On July 1, the artillery drifted away from the German front
trenches and left the infantry unattended. Nobody was

Reasons For The Age Of Exploration
The Age of Exploration, also known as the Age of Discovery lasted from the 15th century to the 17th
century. It was the Europeans exploration of expanding from the old world to the new world. The
discovery of the New World led to wealth, knowledge, and new trading routes. This made people think
more about the world and it developed modern science into what it is today.
Spices were used to help preserve food and not become spoil but it was very expensive and dangerous
to get. There was this land route that led from Europe to Asia called the Silk Road and this is where
traders had to travel in order to get the spices. However, it was dangerous and the European wanted to
find an alternative way that was safer and faster to get the spices from Asia with a new route.
(Nussbaumcom) The reason for the discovery of the new world was because of Christopher
Columbus, who is an Italian man that was working for the Spanish monarchy. Christopher Columbus
was sent on a voyage to look for an alternative for a shorter sea route that was able to reach China and
India rather than using the Portuguese s route around Africa. On Christopher Columbus voyage to the
new world, he landed on the island of San Salvador, which is the Bahamas today, because of curiosity,
Columbus then decides to explore the island of Hispaniola which is Haiti and the Dominican Republic
today. (Mitchell) Christopher Columbus became famous for his voyages and would lead three more

Raising The Driving Age Essay
I would like to offer my opinion about the possibility of increasing the legal age limit of obtaining a
driver s licence to 18 years of age which has been a source of disagreement in the media lately. I
completely believe that raising the legal driving age is unnecessary.
I believe that this change is an unnecessary and inappropriate one as the age of the driver is not the
problem, the problem is that people still don t fully understand the rules of the road whether that be P
platers, 10 years experience, 20 years or even 30 years of driving experience. A solution to this
problem would be creating a mandatory retest that each person with a licence must sit every 10 years
and every 5 years for persons over the age of 60 as hand eye co ordination and reflexes start to
deteriorate.
Raising the legal driving age from 17 to 18 is unwise as 17 year olds have a much more focused mind
at this point in their lives as they are not consumed by necessities such as year 12 results, planning for
the future and either obtaining or maintaining employment. Continuing to keep the driving age at 17
will lower stress in teens as it is one part of their lives that they have control over and gives them
freedom which leads onto my next point, freedom.

parents. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on War and Peace and Tolstoy s View of History
War and Peace and Tolstoy s View of History
Count Lev Tolstoy wrote abundantly on the philosophical issues that he felt were universally
important. One of the most prolific examples of this is his view of history. This is set out most clearly
and most famously in his largest work, War and Peace. As Tolstoy claimed himself in a public
statement on the work, War and Peace is what the author wanted and was able to express in that form
in which it was expressed. Not only do the themes and incidents in the novel reflect his theory of
history, Tolstoy iterates this in less narrative terms in the twelve chapters of the Second Epilogue,
described as, A general discussion on the historians study of human life, and on the ... Show more

As Tolstoy said, What I have expressed in the epilogue of the novel, without quotations and
references, is not the momentary fancy of my mind but the inevitable conclusions of seven years of
work, which I had to do.
The Second Epilogue can be split up into three sections1, in section one, comprising chapters 1 to 3,
Tolstoy reviews various schools of historiography, in section two, comprising chapters 4 to 7, he deals
with the question of nature and power and what determines the movements of peoples, in section
three, comprising chapters 8 to 12, he discusses the problem of free will.
The first section has been widely disregarded as a limited and anachronistic description of modern
historiography and the logocentric reliance on the presumption that what he feels is important, is
important for self evident reasons. It is often argued that Tolstoy gives an artificial impression of
historians, criticising them for things he is wrong in thinking they have claimed. But what is important
is that through doing this, Tolstoy establishes what is important for him, for his view of history. He
states that in order to explain the movements of people, there

  • 2. The Birth and Death of the Amercan Dream Adam Walder s Vision for UGHH: Adam Walder is both a zealous and determined businessman who devotes his full efforts to consistently attaining his ambitions. When he began drafting the first lines of code for Underground Hip Hop, Walder had one goal: he just wanted people to hear [his] music (p. 2). Walder s passion for his hobby is what drove him to initial success, but it was his dedication to bring underground rap and hip hop music to his fans that allowed for future accomplishments. Walder had a handle on his market segmentation, easily identifying the sociocultural factor of taste in hip hop music, to propel his business (Hill, 440). By creating a functioning feedback loop on his site that manifested itself in the form of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A businessperson who wants to do everything himself/herself will quickly find that he/she is making no progress. Walder needs to trust his employee s abilities, and get past his fears of programmers quitting, leaving unfinished code. (p. 8). To combat this fear of losing employees, Walder should focus on creating and solidifying a strong organizational culture, instilling certain values among workers (Hill, 341). As the company grows in size, Walder will need to make more hires, especially on the technical side of operations. If not, he will be unable to keep the website functioning properly with the influx of site traffic as UGHH grows and develops. UGHH Financing Adam Walder sees his debt free business, a result of internally funded business practices, as a fact to boast about. Although this process does protect UGHH from accumulating too much debt, it also limits the company s expansion significantly. Debt can be harmful to many businesses, but there is also a concept called good debt ; the debt a company incurs to propagate it forward and expedite business processes. If UGHH were to take out loans and allow itself to acquire debt, it could have expanded into a suitable warehouse sooner, ordered more merchandise and marketed itself effectively. The current financing strategy that UGHH utilizes causes it to miss out on strategic business opportunities and limit its growth. Recommendation In today s economic environment, technology grows ... • 4. Causes Of Hurricane Katrina There were several issues that played a part in the disaster of New Orleans afte Hurricane Katrina had struck. Due to neglence of the five agencies ( that were responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the New Orleans Hurricane Protection System led to insuffiecent preparation. Even after declaring a state of emergency, lack of coordinating between Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) resulted in a poor response to help render aid and deliver supplies to the people of New Orleans. There are many stakeholders involved in this catastrophe. To name a few: Residents of New Orleans, businesses, engineers, and schools. Indirect stakeholders would involve groups like FEMA , Emergency Responders, and government (local, state, federal) levels. Residents of New Orleans experienced the brunt of Hurricane Katrina when the levees had been breached. Due to New Orleans being below sea leavel, flooding was eminent. The residents who had evacuated were forced to leave everything behind to escape the wrath of Hurricane Katrina. They were forced to high grounds in Baton Rouge and travelled as far as Houston, Tx. Others who had made the decision to stay were forced to their rooftops to avoid high waters. Unfortunately, this storm claimed 1500 people. Enginners were directly involved because their design and repairs failed to meet the requirements to ensure the durability of the Hurricane protection system. Schools were rebuilt but ... • 5. My Field Experience At Bushwick United Head Start Program For my field experience, I had the opportunity to observe a four year old pre kindergarten classroom on November 5th and 12th at Bushwick United Head Start program. The school is located at 136 Stanhope street, Brooklyn, N.Y. Majority of the families the school serve are Hispanics, and as a result, the student body entails mostly ELL students. There are approximately 130 students enrolled in the program, and out of that 130, about 10% speaks English. The school uses an additive model of English Language to support both the student s home language and foster and support English language acquisition. The classrooms are staffed with teachers who speak the children s home language, who can apply some use of the home language within the classroom and providing hands on experiences for students. Additionally, to support students with disability, the school also partnered with United Community Services (UCS), a program that offers speech therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy to students. The school uses the evidence based Creative Curriculum. The Creative Curriculum is aligned with Head Start Performance Standards, NAEYC guidelines and the NY State Prekindergarten Common Core Standards. The classroom I observed consists of seventeen students, eight of which girls and nine are boys. Of the seventeen students, nine receive services from UCS, and five of which understood and speak English, though not fluently. The students are often pulled out the classroom to receive ... Theme Of Justice In Death And The Maiden The Oxford English Dictionary defines justice as The administration of the law or authority in maintaining this .1 In the play, Death and the Maiden, the playwright, Ariel Dorfman, presents his characters with three conflicting definitions of justice. This suggests that he wants to make an effort to please her, and he is possibly worthy of her love after all. While he is in Belmont, Portia makes an absolute declaration of love by stating One half of me is yours, the other half yours. At this point, Bassanio is aware of the fact that Portia is definitely in love with him. However, he feels guilty when he says Let me choose/For as I am, I live upon the rack. In this extended metaphor of torture, Portia replies Then confess/What treason there is mingled with your love. This metaphor speaks about trust and suggests that Bassanio wants to tell Portia the truth about his financial status, but he s unwilling to because he is afraid of disappointing her. This language of intimacy proves that he cares about Portia and does not want her to lose interest in him. Yet again, this implies that he is worthy of Portia s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In a cirrhotic liver these cells are replaced by scar tissue. Some of the damaged cells in the liver continue to divide and form nodules. This restricts blood supply and greatly reduces liver function. (Kasper, 2008) The liver is essential to digestion and subsequent metabolic processes. It is a plays a large part in the processing of carbohydrates and lipids. As carbohydrates are absorbed in the small intestine, they are first brought to the liver via the portal vein. Depending on the needs of the body, the liver will either store excess glucose as glycogen or breakdown glycogen to release glucose into the bloodstream. Lipids are not soluble in water and cannot be efficiently absorbed without bile produced by the liver. Bile emulsifies fats and allows lipase, an essential protease produced by the pancreas, to effectively break down complex lipids for absorption. The liver also detoxifies the body by trapping toxins that have entered through digestion, the skin, or the respiratory system. Although Leininger developed transcultural nursing theory in 1950 s, it wasn t published until four decades later in Leininger s Culture Care Diversity and Universality (Petiprin, 2014). Leininger recognized that there was an absence of cultural care knowledge while providing patient care. Therefore, purpose of Transcultural Nursing Theory is to help nurses take in consideration the patient s culture and cultural background when determining how to care for the patient (Petiprin, 2014). It also helps nurses to become more understanding and respectful when it comes to diversity in culture and strengthen nurse patient relationship. The Montgomery Bus Boycott Case Study The problem with discrimination with transportation is that coloured people, specifically African Americans, were not allowed to sit at the front of the bus and a lot of the time they had to give their seat up to white person when travelling by air. The major issue in the 1950 s was the busses. Much like the bathrooms and waiting areas African American people had a segregated section for them at the back of the bus, or a separate, poor quality bathroom. From this coloured people felt even more excluded as they already had specific bathrooms, waiting areas and even drinking fountains. It depends on how therapeutic the self disclosure would benefit the client in that given situation, and the client s receptiveness to what information is given to them; for example, one patient may respond positively to a therapist s self disclosure that reveals another safe point of view of an issue, while another patient might feel that therapist s has over stepped their boundaries. Madill et al. stated that, These were sometimes attributed to inexperience and sometimes the characteristics of the total situation, such as events from the therapist s personal life (13). There are times when sharing something from the therapist can help explain an issue that is present during the time of that therapy appointment. Another problem with a therapist s self disclosure is that after years of treatment, the therapist can run out of examples to use to clarify a point made during the appointment. Years and years of treatment sometimes cover issues where the therapist, will add something about himself or herself. The development of music from the time line in the middle ages(450 1450) was known for incorporation of music in the church that was done by the monks. As I listened to the pieces of music done by the monks, their music known to be Gregorian chant, it really embodies serenity and the sacred intent for the music. The resonation of the voices compliment the simplicity of the monophonic arrangement of the chant. The use of the male voices gives a richness in texture to the chant.Later on in the century there was the incorporation of chants composed by women, that explore the wider vocal ranges. In my view the musical genius gene was not exclusive to just men alone this was clearly seen with the composer Hildegard of Bingen. Her pieces of music was visionary ... • 29. Examples Of Biological Determinism In The 1800s Biological determinism is the concept that most human characteristics, physical and mental, are determined at conception by hereditary factors passed from parent to offspring. In the 1800s this was the mindset of the majority of people. This was applied towards women and education. It was firmly believed by many Universities and individuals that women should not get an education beyond basic schooling. Most universities in the United States did not allow female students until the 1830s. It was believed that because men s brains were bigger and had more grey matter they were superior to women with a smaller brain size, women were also called childlike because of this size difference. The thought was also presented that if women were educated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Battle of Somme Essay The British launched The Battle of the Somme to achieve two objectives. The first and most important goal was to relieve pressure on the French Army at Verdun, and the second was to inflict as heavy a loss as possible on the German Armies. The Battle of the Somme had to be fought to save the French Army from the crucifixion of Verdun. The head of the French Army, General Fock, and some leading British commanders did not believe this battle would help, but political masters in London and Paris supported the campaign. For many years The Battle of the Somme received much criticism for the way the battle was fought based on the number of casualties. Joseph Joffre, The French Commander in Chief, wrote a letter to Douglas Haig on December ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Haig expected a breakthrough of up to seven miles from the start line. Rawlinson believed they would take a bite into the German trenches to be followed by more little bites to gain territory. Both generals were proven wrong on their expectations, but Rawlinson s was the more realistic objective. The artillery plan was that the field guns would destroy the German barbed wire in front of the trenches and the heavy guns were to attack the enemy s artillery and trenches. The artillery was to be the key to the offensive. Another key point in key to being offensive was the enemy s position was situated on a high, rigid piece of ground. Joffre s army had deep trenches with bomb proof shelters and wire encirclements. When the attack started Haig s army just had to move the men into the remote safety zone of the trench. When the attack stopped, the Germans would then know that this was the signal for an infantry advance. Lastly, they would move from safety and keep their guns close by incase of an attack and to face the British and French. Sadly, their weapons did not have the ability to cut all the wire and destroy deep German trenches or knock out all enemy guns. It also could not provide a useful bombardment for the infantry attack. On July 1, the artillery drifted away from the German front trenches and left the infantry unattended. Nobody was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. Reasons For The Age Of Exploration The Age of Exploration, also known as the Age of Discovery lasted from the 15th century to the 17th century. It was the Europeans exploration of expanding from the old world to the new world. The discovery of the New World led to wealth, knowledge, and new trading routes. This made people think more about the world and it developed modern science into what it is today. Spices were used to help preserve food and not become spoil but it was very expensive and dangerous to get. There was this land route that led from Europe to Asia called the Silk Road and this is where traders had to travel in order to get the spices. However, it was dangerous and the European wanted to find an alternative way that was safer and faster to get the spices from Asia with a new route. (Nussbaumcom) The reason for the discovery of the new world was because of Christopher Columbus, who is an Italian man that was working for the Spanish monarchy. Christopher Columbus was sent on a voyage to look for an alternative for a shorter sea route that was able to reach China and India rather than using the Portuguese s route around Africa. On Christopher Columbus voyage to the new world, he landed on the island of San Salvador, which is the Bahamas today, because of curiosity, Columbus then decides to explore the island of Hispaniola which is Haiti and the Dominican Republic today. (Mitchell) Christopher Columbus became famous for his voyages and would lead three more future voyages to the Caribbean where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Raising The Driving Age Essay I would like to offer my opinion about the possibility of increasing the legal age limit of obtaining a driver s licence to 18 years of age which has been a source of disagreement in the media lately. I completely believe that raising the legal driving age is unnecessary. I believe that this change is an unnecessary and inappropriate one as the age of the driver is not the problem, the problem is that people still don t fully understand the rules of the road whether that be P platers, 10 years experience, 20 years or even 30 years of driving experience. A solution to this problem would be creating a mandatory retest that each person with a licence must sit every 10 years and every 5 years for persons over the age of 60 as hand eye co ordination and reflexes start to deteriorate. Raising the legal driving age from 17 to 18 is unwise as 17 year olds have a much more focused mind at this point in their lives as they are not consumed by necessities such as year 12 results, planning for the future and either obtaining or maintaining employment. Continuing to keep the driving age at 17 will lower stress in teens as it is one part of their lives that they have control over and gives them freedom which leads onto my next point, freedom. Freedom. Allowing teens to drive at the age of 17 not only gives the teen freedom, but also their parents. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 35. Essay on War and Peace and Tolstoy s View of History War and Peace and Tolstoy s View of History Count Lev Tolstoy wrote abundantly on the philosophical issues that he felt were universally important. One of the most prolific examples of this is his view of history. This is set out most clearly and most famously in his largest work, War and Peace. As Tolstoy claimed himself in a public statement on the work, War and Peace is what the author wanted and was able to express in that form in which it was expressed. Not only do the themes and incidents in the novel reflect his theory of history, Tolstoy iterates this in less narrative terms in the twelve chapters of the Second Epilogue, described as, A general discussion on the historians study of human life, and on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As Tolstoy said, What I have expressed in the epilogue of the novel, without quotations and references, is not the momentary fancy of my mind but the inevitable conclusions of seven years of work, which I had to do. The Second Epilogue can be split up into three sections1, in section one, comprising chapters 1 to 3, Tolstoy reviews various schools of historiography, in section two, comprising chapters 4 to 7, he deals with the question of nature and power and what determines the movements of peoples, in section three, comprising chapters 8 to 12, he discusses the problem of free will. The first section has been widely disregarded as a limited and anachronistic description of modern historiography and the logocentric reliance on the presumption that what he feels is important, is important for self evident reasons. It is often argued that Tolstoy gives an artificial impression of historians, criticising them for things he is wrong in thinking they have claimed. But what is important is that through doing this, Tolstoy establishes what is important for him, for his view of history. He states that in order to explain the movements of people, there ...
