Economic Issues Simulation Paper
Economic Issues Simulation Paper Christi L. Baker HCS 440 March 5, 2012 Steven Miracle Abstract
Castor Collins Health Plans, a regional health maintenance organization (HMO), in the state of
Pantome provides HMO health insurance and health care services to enrollees through its statewide
network of physicians and hospitals. E Editors, a company with 1600 employees has asked Castor
Collins to find an employee health insurance plan that accepts preexisting conditions at a maximum
premium of $4,500 per person. Caster has two plans, which may fit the client s demands. This paper
converses the selection method including risk factors as compared to premiums that the company is
willing to pay. In addition, the paper also considers the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus, this plan covers preexisting conditions, but risks under this plan are lower than under Caster
Enhanced, because this plan covers fewer services (University of Phoenix, 2011). For E Editors, the
premium charged for this plan is $4,491, and earnings are $7.19 million (University of Phoenix,
2011). For E Editors, the premium charged for Castor Standard is $3,485 and earnings are $5.58
million (University of Phoenix, 2011). The risks and returns in this plan are low (University of
Phoenix, 2011). A comparison of the expected utilization and the returns from providing Castor
Standard to this group shows that the risks are quite high, and earnings from this plan are not
sufficient to cover them (University of Phoenix, 2011). This plan is not the best choice of plan for E
Editors because one could mitigate risks by providing a different plan or by not insuring the group
(University of Phoenix, 2011). Risk adverse customers buy health insurance to avoid losing income or
wealth when indisposed (University of Phoenix, 2011). The insurance company in this case Castor
Collins bears the risk in return for the premium and takes care of enrollees medical expenses (in part
or full) when indisposed (University of Phoenix, 2011). The premium that Castor Collins receives is a
source of revenue (University of Phoenix, 2011). It is

Why I Learned With Studying Linguistics
I was the child who never knew what she wanted to be when she grew up. I could see myself doing
everything because I knew that I could do anything. Fascinated by their complexity and similarities, I
slowly fell in love with languages. Nothing is quite as beautiful as their nuances and how they vary
among people. With this novel fascination, I decided that I wanted to learn as many languages as I
possibly could and everything about them and their connections to other languages. In addition,
understanding intricate grammar rules comes easily to me, and I have always enjoyed its structure and
patterns. If I combine these two interests of mine, it is apparent that I should study linguistics. I had
figured out what I wanted to study, but not what to do after college. I remembered helping my friends
in Latin last year with the grammar rules of English and how I am constantly correcting my family s
improper grammar, and I realized that I love explaining and teaching languages. With this realization,
I decided that I want to teach English as a second language. Now I had to decide what college to
attend. After obsessing over the magnificent Hogwarts in all of its glory in Harry Potter, I couldn t
imagine not wanting to go to castle looking college. Who doesn t want to go to a college that looks
like a castle? Being the perfect amalgamation of appearance and exemplary linguistics department,
Cambridge is the school for me.

Genetically Vigorous Populations
Biodiversity is life s variety. It is the varying genetics that each species carries that makes it different
and unique . Biodiversity is important, not only in evolution, but in survival; when sometimes those
terms can mean the very same thing. Interestingly, biodiversity can mean a variance in the life itself or
within the genetics of a species. In keeping breeding habits within the same lineage, some animals risk
lower biodiversity and sometimes even deformities and disease, as they are able to more easily pass on
unfavorable hereditary traits. In increasing the overall biodiversity, the only risk is a ... Show more

Species possibly saved as a result of population management include the Koala, Partula snails, and
Sarracenia alabamensis. The koala was experiencing a population decline in Australia which prompted
an initiative known as the Koala Habitat Program. The goal of this program is to increase the size of
the habitat for the koala. The Queensland Government has provided $22.5 million in funding to
acquire new land (Queensland Government, 2014). The Partula snail is another species very critically
endangered. As this species population recovers in captivity, the hope is to release them into the wild.
This process has to be done carefully after the African land snail was imported to a small island in the
Pacific and soon got out of control. This snail was eating the crops that grow on the island. Eventually,
a second species of snail, the Florida rosy wolfsnail, was brought in to prey on the Partula snail to get
the population under control (Marwell Wildlife, 2014). The Sarracenia Alabamensis, also known as
the Cane brake pitcher plant, was in need of a program to stabilize its population. This plant was
endangered because it was located in areas where land was cheap to acquire and when the land was
developed, it reduced the number of plants. The first program

Determining Who Should Receive An Organ Transplant Can
Determining who should receive an organ transplant can be a tricky and difficult task. According to
the UNOS, the company that maintains the organ transplant list, there are various factors that are
under consideration when an organ is available. Things like blood type, tissue type, medical urgency,
and proximity to the donor are all taken into consideration; factors like age, income, or racial/ethnic
background are not even taken into consideration. Furthermore, the transplant list is more like a pool
than a list. So, if one patient hits more criteria than another patient, then he or she will receive the
organ, regardless of their status ( The Gift of a Lifetime ). While this system may seem slow or
flawed, it allows patients the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the patients , Patient A, limb failed due to a freak car accident where he was t boned by a drunk
driver. On the other hand, Patient B s limb failed due to heroin addiction, an outcome he was fully
aware of as an avid user. Now, who deserves the limb transplant? If we just consider the distributive
norm of need in our definition of distributive justice, we will be stuck at an impasse. Because both
Patients A and B are both in dire straits, we can say that they both a have strong claim to the scarce
good in question. However, if we consider including the distributive norm of equity in the definition
of distributive justice, this problem can be remedied. The norm is equity is as follows: a person s
claim to a scarce good should be dependent on how much of a role he or she plays in the outcome
(Anderson). In other words, this would mean that those who work harder deserve a larger share of
outcome than those who do not put in as much effort. In the case of organ transplants, we can apply
this norm as the following: a patient s claim to an organ is dependent on how little of a role they play
in their need for a transplant. This essentially means that those who play a less active role in harm
caused to their organs have a better claim than those who are actively damaging their organs. Now,
applying this norm to our definition of distributive justice, we will be able to determine that Patient A
is more deserving of the limb transplant

The Great Train Robbery And Edwin Porter
In this essay I will be discussing five key points throughout Post Production history between the 1900s
1960s. Post Production is seen as a vital component in the cinematic industry as it essentially finalises
the final products. Techniques that have been developed over the years are incredibly important, but
they all have an origin. Although these techniques started out without overwhelming effect, they are
now unbelievably crucial to how films are constructed. The five points I wish to discuss go as follows:
The Great Train Robbery and Edwin Porter himself, D.W. Griffith and his overwhelming influence on
editing, The Jazz Singer, the Kuleshov Effect and finally, 2001: A Space Odyssey. As well as
discussing these key factors, this essay will take into consideration secondary material. In the early
years of post production, there was a distinct lack of editing within the film industry. Everything
filmed was for the most part one continuous shot and lacking too much creativity in the post
production region. Edwin Porter was one of the key founders that changed the way post production
was addressed. Although he originally filmed following what is referred to as Aristotelian construction
(Musser, 1991, p167) he began paying closer attention to how a story could be told more effectively
through visual representation. Edwin began straying away from Aristotelian construction and instead
opted to use cutting to help him create the story he wished to create. Whilst this was not an

Feminist in Susan Glaspell´s Play Trifles
Trifles In Susan Glaspell s play Trifles a man has been murdered by his wife, but the men of the town
who are in charge of investigating the crime are unable solve the murder mystery through logic and
standard criminal procedures. Instead, two women (Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters) who visit the home are
able to read a series of clues that the men cannot see because all of the clues are embedded in
domestic items that are specific to women. The play at first it seems to be about mystery, but it
abruptly grows into a feminist perspective. The play Trifles written by Susan Glaspell can be
considered a revolutionary writing in it its advocacy of the feminist movement. Trifles is one play that
really shows the conflict between gender roles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What Bailey McDaniel meant by this is that women couldn t speak their ideas and how it was
frustrating for them. Like in the play, the women were trying to help the men, but the men clearly didn
t want their help or they just make fun of them, as a result, the women took matters in their own
hands. Not only does the title have symbolic meaning but also the names of the female characters are
also symbolic. Susan Glaspell purposely hid the names of the female characters to symbolize that they
don t have an identity. Only the men receive a first name in Trifles, while the play refers to the women
by their husbands last names. The role that society has cast them in is one that is defined by their
husbands. This shows how women were oppressed by not allowing them to have their own names
unless they were called by their husband s last name. Susan Glaspell gives good examples in how their
marital status changes the female characters s names. In the play Mrs. Hale says: ... I heard she used to
wear pretty clothes and be lively, when she was Minnie Foster... (1972). The reader can see how the
name changes according to her marital status, and how she was unhappy probably because she was
being oppressed by her husband. In The Trifles of Feminism Christina McLure really makes a good
point in that Mr. Wright always tried to

Essay On Acromegaly
Acromegaly is a relatively uncommon but serious disorder. Usually Acromegaly is a benign tumor on
the pituitary gland. The disorder causes the gland to secrete excess growth hormone which the body
doesn t need. Acromegaly translates into acro extremities and megaly enlargement. In an Acromegalic
patient elevated level of growth hormone in the bloodstream is responsible for enlargement of certain
organs and body parts throughout the body which eventually become permanent changes. An unusual
over development of the hands, feet, and facial bones (jaw, brow ridge, and cheekbones). Acromegaly
can be treated but if the symptoms of the diseases at first sight are ignored and not treated many
complications can occur and in worse case death. The disorder is often missed by doctors. This
research will describe Acromegaly and focus on statistics, causes, signs and symptoms, diagnosis,
treatment, prognosis, prevention, and complications.

sometimes it happens during childhood. When kids get this disease it is called gigantism instead of

causes expanded development of the long bones. In this manner the children grow in height. Growth
plates intertwine after puberty, so the inordinate GH creation does not add to the adults

Essay about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Our memories change the way in which we see the world The idea that our memories change the way
on which we see the world and ultimately change reality is a difficult one to understand. An answer to
this question depends on the way we define reality. If we define reality as objective then it can not be
altered by memories. However if we define reality as subjective, then, yes, our memories can affect
our reality. But what do we mean by memories? What do we mean by relationship? What follows is an
attempt to answer some of these questions, and see whether and how our memories affect our reality.
Before considering whether or not memories affect our reality, it may be useful to offer a definition of
the term reality . If we are to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many other people have been in similar situations which have taught them a life lesson . In Gondry
and Kaufman s Eternal Sunshine, Dr Howard Mierzwiak knew of the power of memories. He went
about erasing people s memories without telling them the full consciences of their actions; like Joel
who midway through the erasing process realised he wanted to keep them, his life afterwards was
different as he didn t have his memories of Clementine to remind him of what love felt like. Our
memories strongly shape our perception of events. In the popular culture film Vantage Point each
character has a different perspective due to their memories. It shows six different perspectives of the
same event, the attempted assassination of the President while greeting a crowd in Salamanca, Spain
before his speech. Soon after several bombs go off in the surrounding area and many people are hurt.
Each person who witnessed this event had a different view. GNN TV producer Rex Brooks was busy
delegating tasks to his workers when the shot was fired his reality instantly changed when he saw his
reporter lying lifeless on the ground after the explosions. This made him realise that this event was
going to affect his future. Thomas Barnes a secret service agent also saw the assassination attempt and
recognised the reality that people were in danger and that he had the ability to help due to his training.

What does Scout learn about Maycomb and its inhabitants...
What does Scout learn about Maycomb and its inhabitants during the trial? Through witnessing the
trial, Scout learns a lot about Maycomb and its inhabitants, particularly Bob Ewell, Mayella Ewell,
Tom Robinson, Dolphus Raymond and her own father, Atticus. Bob Ewell is the villain of the To Kill
A Mockingbird and, as a result of the trial, he attempts to get revenge on Atticus and his family.
However, in the trial itself he is depicted as a very unpleasant person, not only by his appearance, a
little bantam cock of a man but also by his conduct. Scout learns that he drinks and sometimes leaves
his family for days, he is violent and he may even be committing incest with Mayella. Atticus

Prior to the trial, Scout only knows Dolphus Raymond through the rumours that revolve around him:
he always drinks whisky out of a sack which supposedly provides an explanation for why he s got a
coloured woman and all sorts of mixed chillum ; he owns all one side of a river bank...and he s from a
real old family to boot. But through meeting Dolphus with Dill, Scout is informed that he pretends to
be an alcoholic because it was the only way the Maycomb would accept him. He says this was so
because they could not grasp a sane white person ever living with coloured folks. This interlude with
Dolphus Raymond at the beginning of chapter 20 foreshadows Atticus s views, expressed later, that
black people are people like everyone else. Scout and the readers learn that we shouldn t judge people
by appearances. Although she judges Dolphus by his reputation, her opinion changes after she has met
him something that sadly the white jury of the trial is incapable of doing regarding Tom Robinson.
This scene underlines the prejudices of the white community, with hints that if a white person loves a
black person they have to have an excuse for it and with Scout discovers more about the simple hell
people give other people. The trial reveals a lot of hidden traits of Atticus, even the littlest things
seeming abnormal to Scout and Jem.

Essay about My Strengths and Weaknesses as a Writer
The art of writing is a complex and difficult process. Proper writing requires careful planning,
revision, and proofreading. Throughout the past semester, the quality of my writing has evolved
significantly. At first, I struggled with the separation of different types of paragraphs, and I found
writing them laborious. Constant practice, however, has eliminated many of my original difficulties,
and helped to inspire confidence in my skills. As a collegiate writer, my strength lies in my clear
understanding of the fundamentals of writing, while my primary weakness is proofreading my own
work. During the transition from a high school writer to a collegiate writer, my strength at

Finding an introductory paragraph that hooks the reader can be troublesome, but throughout the
course, I have spent considerable time developing that technique. The body of my arguments each
exhibit strong support for the thesis. In addition, my conclusions summarize the papers without
restating unnecessary information. Overall, my comprehension of the basic format of an argument has
proved to be a valuable asset. The weakest portion of my writing is my lack of good proofreading. All
papers require a significant amount of proofreading not only for grammatical errors, but also for
structural problems. Proofreading my own work is difficult. Many times, I wrongly assume that the
reader is able to understand my thoughts, while the various points of my argument are actually not
expressed clearly. In some instances, I fail to catch obvious errors, such as sentence fragments or
contractions, which I should be able to eliminate easily from my writing. Proofreading my own work
has consistently been the most difficult part of my writing process, and I continue to struggle with
catching all of the errors in my papers. Analyzing my strengths and weaknesses as a writer is
extremely important. Despite the fact that I understand the structure of a good argument, I still miss
obvious errors in my papers because I lack the skills necessary to properly proofread my own work. In
the future, I plan on spending a large portion of my time

Conformity And Social Conformity
Introduction
Conformity shapes our everyday decisions, whether it is acknowledged or not. How individuals are
perceived by society and our peers puts an immense pressure on a person both in groups and privately,
actively changing behavior that they may not normally take part in. An individual may change their
behavior due to the chance of becoming an outcast. The ultimate fear or possibility of being an outcast
influences individuals to conform to social norms. Psychological researchers have long been interested
in the reasoning behind social conformity. Social conformity can result in the change of behavior or
even the belief of an individual when it comes to them trying to fit within a group. The change can be
due to pressure from a social group. By looking deeper into group size and familiarity, it is possible to
accurately predict behavior for groups and individuals in the future.
In psychology, conformity is defined as the alteration of one s beliefs and behaviors to better match
those around you. There are typically two different forms of conformity, normative and informational.
Normative conformity is becoming compliant to group pressure with the want to fit in. On the other
hand, Information conformity refers to when a person looks to the group for guidance when they lack
knowledge in a certain area. Conformity also can range in different levels such as from how people
dress to how people act in public. This force is what drives even the most simple of decisions that a
person will make on a daily basis. As a result, these individuals conform to other people s behaviors.
For example, just like a public compliance, which is when a person conforms to another s behavior
even if they do not necessarily believe or agree of the person s words or actions. In society, conformity
puts pressure on citizens to either conform to the laws they are given or face legal consequences.
Conformity creates something called group norms , which are an informal set of social rules that are
often unspoken. (Group Norms) When a person violates these norms, they will often find themselves
in conflict with the rest of the group, and can potentially be removed.
Conformity has been well documented and researched, with one of the

Arek Hersh And The Holocaust
The word Holocaust comes from the origin Sacrifice by Fire . Living up to the name, the Holocaust
occurred because Germans believed they were racially superior to Jews and felt their race was a threat
to the European society. Adolf Hitler, the Chancellor of Germany, ordered that all Jews be killed. This
began a mass genocide of six million Jews. The deceased were worked to death in labor camps or
gassed, burned, or tortured in concentration camps. By the time the killings stopped in 1945, the
Jewish population had dwindled to just three million survivors. One of those survivors was Arek
Hersh, a Polish citizen. When Poland was attacked in 1939, Arek s family left everything behind as
they fled persecution. After spending nearly seven devastating ... Show more content on

camp commander s office. In 1942, he was sent back to Lodz ghetto and upon his arrival many people
asked about his relatives, not being able to tell the truth about all the pain, he told them everyone was
working. In August, the Nazis liquidated the ghetto causing 400 people to assemble in a church. They
were put in the left like for working people and the other side non working; he was put on the right but
ran to the working side causing him to survive. He later found out the non working were sent to gas

for 10,000 children to be handed over. Arek knew he fell into that category so he managed to hide

once again liquidated the ghetto because the Russian army was approaching. The remaining survivors

The Patient Protection And Affordable Care Act
On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act
(ACA), the most comprehensive reform of the U.S. medical system in at least 45 years. The ACA
transforms the non group insurance market in the United States, mandates that most residents have
health insurance, significantly expands public insurance and subsidizes private insurance coverage,
raises revenues from a variety of new taxes, and reduces and reorganizes spending under the nation s
largest health insurance plan, Medicare. If fully implemented, the ACA promises to lead to a
dramatically different health care landscape for the United States in the years to come. Projecting the
impacts of such fundamental reform to the health care system is fraught with difficulty. But such
projections were required for the legislative process, and were delivered by the Congressional Budget
Office (CBO). CBO projected that the ACA would increase health insurance coverage by 32 million
people and would raise federal government spending by almost $1 trillion over the subsequent decade,
but would raise revenues and reduce spending by even more so that the bill overall reduced the federal
budget deficit. These CBO projections were central to the legislative debate over the ACA. In this
paper, I will discuss the impact of the ACA in more detail, and describe evidence that sheds light upon
the accuracy of the projections. I begin by reviewing in broad detail the structure of the ACA. The

Literary Essay on A Story of an Hour
The Story of An Hour focuses on sixty minutes in the life of a young nineteenth century woman, Mrs.
Mallard. Upon learning of her husband s death, Mrs. Mallard experiences an epiphany about her
future without a husband. Her life, due to heart problems, suddenly ends after she unexpectedly finds
out her husband is actually alive. Mrs. Mallard s actions cause the reader to cogitate a hidden meaning
weaved into Kate s short story. Chopin had an idea that women felt confined in their marriages, and
the idea is brought out through the protagonist s initial reaction, excessive joy, and new perspective of
the world following the upsetting news. The first example of the theme arises when the protagonist
wept at once, with sudden, wild ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mallard s unexpected bout of joy also supports the theme; if she was not feeling confined, her feelings
of grief would not have been replaced by excessive joy. Time moves along, and she continues to
whisper free! Body and soul free! (Chopin 2). It is further understood that the character was released
from a constricted marriage because the words willingly slip roll off her tongue.
The last example occurs during and after Mrs. Mallard watches the tops of trees that were all aquiver
with the new spring life (Chopin 1). This shows that the character s image of the world is already
changed since she was informed of her husband s death. In the twelfth paragraph, Chopin uses her
character s new perspective of the world to exemplify the confinement women felt. The character
understood she had no one to live for during those coming years; she would live for herself (Chopin
2). Mrs. Mallard s thoughts revolve around her limitations during marriage. She soon realizes that she
would have no powerful will bending hers (Chopin 2). Mrs. Mallard was likely controlled her entire
marriage; and now she is released from her husband s dominance. Before opening the door for her
sister, she was thinking about all sorts of days that would be her own (Chopin 2). The character looked
forward to her new life ahead of her because of the new freedom she has gained; she thought about the

The Push For Soda Bans And Healthier Diets
There are approximately 17% (or 12.5 million) adults and adolescents that are aged 2 19 years that are
overweight according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Journal of the American
Medical Association. In addition, 1 of 7 households which are low income contains children that are
obese. The push for soda bans and healthier diets have been on the rise for some time and the Obama s

often gives kids inspirational role models to look up to. Most kids need something to make fitness and
eating healthy fun and some need extra encouragement to get fit. With bullying and mean girls, a kid
may not know where to start and just give up on trying to get healthy, which can lead to emotional and
larger weight problems. Here you will find some inspiration for the kiddos that may enable them to

The Mysterious Arthur Conan Doyle
The Mysterious Arthur Conan Doyle Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was one of the most popular if not the
most iconic detective writer of his time. He wrote pieces such as The Speckled Band and The Final
Problem that sparked interest in one of the most popular detectives in history. The popularity for
Conan Doyle s Sherlock Holmes has lasted for generations and is why he is recognized as one of the
greatest detective writers of all time. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle adheres to the established principles of
Good Detective Stories, and that is why his stories are so successful and enduring. These features
include items such as the crime must be significant, the detective must be memorable, the criminal

160). When they arrive, it is soon clear to Holmes what is going on, and it does not take him long to
figure out who is behind it. That very night Holmes runs Julia s and Helen s potential killer back up
the rope and back to its master, Roylott, where it then kills him instead (Doyle, 1994, p. 171). Doyle
makes the crime significant to the reader because it involves a young woman who is in danger of
losing her life if someone does come and save her, and he makes it memorable too because it is
significant that Helen s own stepfather Roylott would be trying to murder her.
The Man with the Twisted Lip Doyle in The Man with the Twisted Lip describes to the readers a crime
spoken of by Holmes of a man named Neville St. Clair who has went missing without a trace. The
reader learns of no body being found, and leads some to suspect that Neville St. Clair might not even
be dead. This was the start of modern day cold cases. If you do not have a body it is kind of hard to
start an investigation. However, Holmes does what he can and makes the case interesting. Sherlock
Holmes states, there were no signs of violence upon any of these garments, and there were no traces of
Mr. Neville St. Clair (Doyle, 1994, p. 120). These garments Holmes speaks of belong to Mr. Neville
St. Clair, but there are no signs of violence towards him as saw by the state of his clothes. This then
furthers the significance of the crime because at first it seems to be a murder case, but

The Indian Independence Movement
The history of the Indian Independence Movement against the British in the 20th Century was
evidently influenced and motivated by the underlying differences and perceptions of communal
identities. The freedom struggle in essence was also an assertion of the interests and aspirations of the
diverse communities of the Indian subcontinent. The Indian National Congress and the Muslim
League were the two big powers that sought to mobilize public sentiments in the quest for
Independence. While the Muslim League (formed in 1906), stood as a symbol of Islamic nationalism,
the INC on the other hand was seen as pro Hindu (with a strong influence of radical groups like the
Hindu Mahasabha).
Mohammad Ali Jinnah, initially a Congress nationalist, joined the Muslim League in 1913 in order to
align the views of the two communities in their collective struggle for freedom. The result was The
Lucknow Pact which laid down the constitutional framework of seat and power sharing arrangements
for elections to the Provincial Legislative Councils. Muslims were provided with separate electorates
and one third representation in the Central government. Congress that claimed to fight only for secular
goals and considered religion as a private matter of individual granted the separate electorates for
Muslim went against their very own ideologies. This lead to the settlement of differences between the
two parties and immediate goal of both the parties through the pact called for greater autonomy as a

The Use of Symbolism in A Doll House
Author Margaret Trudeau once said, I can t be a rose in any man s lapel ( I Can t Be ). This quote
expresses exactly what was going through many women s minds during the 1800 s in Norway. Women
had let their husbands control their lives for ages before the 1800 s. Soon, they could no longer stand
being the rose in their husbands lapel. The women of Norway longed for freedom and began to rebel.
Henrik Ibsen s play, A Doll House, displays what women were going through during that time. The
three act play is about Nora, a seemingly typical, submissive housewife, and Torvald, Nora s
condescending, banker husband. In his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nora realizes that she cannot stand living in Torvald s doll house anymore being his perfect little doll,
and she wants to become more than just a doll, so she leaves. Nora as Torvald s doll clearly
symbolizes how women were so submissive to their husbands during that time period in Norway.
Another symbol Ibsen uses throughout the play is the macaroons as a symbol of women s
independence, to show how they longed for freedom from their husbands. The first time the
macaroons are used as a symbol is in the beginning of the play when Torvald does not allow Nora to
eat macaroons. It is shown how Nora tries to hide them from her husband when she first arrives at
home. When Torvald asks when she arrived at home she says, Just now. (Putting the macaroon bag in
her pocket and wiping her mouth.) Do come in, Torvald, and see what I ve bought (Ibsen 44; Act 1).
Torvald doesn t allow Nora to eat macaroons, so Nora tries to hide them from him. In the beginning of
the play, Nora is submissive to Torvald and tries to be what he sees as a perfect spouse, although she
doesn t get treated like a spouse should be treated. She is controlled by Torvald because in his eyes, a
perfect spouse is a doll that he controls, which Nora tries to be, for example by hiding the macaroons
so he doesn t know that she disobeyed him. Nevertheless, Nora begins to eat the macaroons more
overtly later on in the play. Nora s first time

Greg is a very talented player, and we know he values all competition as a challenge no matter the

Interracial Marriage In The 1950s
In 1958, an interracial couple living in Virginia was arrested after getting married. This started the
Supreme Court Case Loving v. Virginia, which took place in 1967. At that time, interracial marriage
was illegal in some states, one of those states being Virginia. In the 1950s, there was a lot of conflict
going on. For an example, the civil rights movement was growing, and the campaign against
communism revealed the hidden divisions in American society. A group of Americans that is
continually growing spoke out against inequality and injustice during the 1950s. African Americans
had been fighting against racial discrimination for centuries; during the 1950s, however, the struggle
against racism and segregation entered the mainstream of American life. (History, The 1950s)
Although they weren t very common, they were definitely frowned upon by society. The Loving v.
Virginia Supreme Court Case changed people s views on interracial marriage, helped it become legal
in every state, and shaped the American culture of today.
On June 2, 1958, Mildred Jeter, and Richard Loving got married in the District of Columbia and then
returned to Virginia shortly after. However, they were in violation of Virginia code 20 54, which
declared marriages between white and colored persons unlawful, as well as code 20 58, which made it
unlawful to go out of state to marry with the intention to return and cohabit as husband and wife
(Coleman, Loving v Virginia). Shortly after their marriage,

Holistic And Holistic Nursing Care Essay
Holistic Nursing Care Norma Valdez Rosa South University Online Complementary Alternative
Methods Introduction Holistic nursing is defined as all nursing practice that has healing the whole
person as its goal (Dossey, 2012). Holistic nursing does not replace medicinal practice; rather, it
incorporates the whole patient into the nursing care plan with the outcome being that of a healthier
patient. Holistic Nurse Self Care is the most important core value of the Holistic Nursing Care
standards because of the importance of nurse self care to the delivery of quality patient care. In order
to be able to meet all the needs of the patient, a nurse needs to be prepared in mind, body and spirit.
Holistic Nurse Self Care The Holistic Nursing Care standards are based on five core values: holistic
philosophy and education; holistic ethics, theories and research; holistic nurse self care; holistic
communication, therapeutic environment and cultural competence; and holistic caring process. In my
opinion, Holistic Nurse Self Care ranks as the most important value that should be incorporated into
the Holistic nurse s practice. As a nurse, I feel that nurses have to take care of themselves in order to
be able to take care of their patients and deliver high quality care to them. Self care and self awareness
are important to prevent nurse burnout which can lead to depression, anger, feelings of incompetence,
difficulties in one s home, absenteeism and staff

Technology And Modern Society
Sometimes in life, we have to learn how to take a joke. In a society where making fun of a serious
issue is often looked down upon, people tend to lose their sense of humor and forget about
maintaining a positive mindset. Although there are situations and events that should not be made fun
of, there are still minor flaws in society that should be pointed out. One of these flaws is the way
technology is being used by today s generation. Our minds are becoming consumed and preoccupied
by modern technology. The advancement of technology has had an enormous impact on our world.
Whether it has had a positive or negative impact is debatable, however, technology has indeed
changed the lives of millions of people around the world. One journalist who efficiently managed to
describe this issue is Peter Greene. Peter Greene is a contributor for the Huffington Post. His satire A
Classroom of Tomorrow takes place in a classroom where the teacher is focusing his/her lesson more
on the sponsored technology than actually teaching the children. This piece of satire was intriguing
due to the fact that it focused on a concept that is prevalent in today s world. As technology continues
to develop day by day, more questions about the use of technology arise. Technology is a pivotal
aspect of modern society which is why Greene felt the need to talk about issues surrounding
technology. This piece of satire also focusses on America s education system and the funding behind
it. In the satire, the school prioritized sponsorships. If a student did not have a sponsorship deal, they
were perceived as poor. As a result, they were not given the same quality of education as the other
students who did have sponsorship deals. This issue corresponds with a larger issue in America which
is the funding given to public schools. Schools are mostly funded by the local and state governments.
The issue with this is that the poorer regions are given less funding for their schools. This drastically
affects a student s learning experience since their quality of education and their access to resources are
dependent on their financial situation. The main targets of this satire are poverty, the government, and
the way people of this generation are

The Importance Of Premarital Sexual Intercourse
In an increasingly secular American society, the traditional value of sexual abstinence until marriage
has become obsolete. Movies, music, and media glorify promiscuous behavior, and people are putting
off marriage until later in life. As American culture continues to shift towards a romanticized view of
premarital sexual intercourse, one ought to ask his or herself if this is truly a morally permissible act.
Personally, I find this behavior alarming, and in this essay, I hope to persuade readers as to why
premarital sexual intercourse should not be accepted or encouraged. I will begin by criticizing a
typical modus tollens argument pro premarital sexual intercourse advocates often present. Next, I will
defend my claim that the presented argument is unsound by providing an equivalent example. I will
then address a possible objection to my stance, and I will overcome this objection by examining a few
of the numerous negative consequences to premarital sexual intercourse. The pro premarital sexual
intercourse argument is as follows:
1) If premarital sexual intercourse is morally impermissible for adults, then it is reasonable to prohibit
premarital sexual intercourse for adults (given what we know about the growth and development of
young men and women).
2) It is not reasonable to prohibit premarital sexual intercourse for adults (given what we know about
the growth and development of young men and women).
3) So, it is not the case that premarital sexual intercourse is

Craft and Design Term Paper Josiah Wedgwood s Creamware The history of Wedgwood and
Creamware When people hear the name Josiah Wedgwood they might think of navy blue and white
pottery but in actual fact Wedgwood was the brains behind so much more. Josiah Wedgwood was born
1730 and was not like the rest of the young children of his generation as Wedgwood s family was part
of a group called the Dissenters. The Dissenters are a collection of people that do not agree with the
ways of the church so in their own way to rebel they have created their own society. In this society
they have created their own church, community and school. The school of the Dissenters has been
home to some of the greatest mind of history. This includes Albert Einstein, Josiah Wedgwood and
Charles Darwin. These schools are heavily based in sciences and mathematics so it gives the
Dissenters a large step up intellectually. Wedgwood s recipe of cream coloured earthenware known as
creamware was so popular in its time because at that moment in history there was a huge demand for
Porcelain and a rush to create the prime recipe. Once porcelain was invented in Europe it was in high
demand because of it rarity and its innovative, fresh style; it was also a luxurious, expensive item that
only the upper class, wealthy could afford. In the popularity of porcelain, Josiah Wedgwood was
clever as to bring creamware to the forefront. Creamware was the cheaper direction than porcelain.

Abraham Lincoln Contributions
Throughout history there have been numerous Americans who have contributed to the development of
America. From the long lists of names, there is always one name that rises above all the others,
Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln is commonly known as the one of the nation s greatest president because of
his accomplishments and achievements, especially during the civil war. However, even before his
presidency, Lincoln had a respectable reputation amongst the people. He was known to defuse the
tension between two people through his humor and optimistic view of life. Lincoln s victory in the
election of 1860 caused the South to secede from the union, thus creating a costly and bloody war that
forever changed America. Although it was one of the worst times in American history, Lincoln
remained loyal to the people and was a strong leader throughout his presidency; his contributions to
America will never be forgotten. Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Hardin Country,
Kentucky. His parents were Thomas and Nancy Lincoln who raised him with a modest upbringing. At
a young age, Lincoln lost his mother to a milk sickness in 1818. Just over a year of his mother s death,
his father remarried to Sarah Johnston, a strong and loving woman with whom Abraham had quickly
become close to. Due to a land dispute in 1817, the Lincolns were forced to move to Perry County,
Indiana. In 1830, they moved again to Macon County, Illinois and then again to Coles County.

The F Word By Marcus Schulzke Analysis
Summary Marcus Schulzke s article South Park and the Transformation of Meaning looks at a
particular episode, The F Word and explores its impact as well as its comment on society. Schulzke
begins by commenting on South Park s history of satire and by pointing out that the show s creators
generally avoid adamantly propagating the ideas on one side of an issue. He also makes a point that
the writers consistently favor gay rights and oppose censorship , so when the two issues come up in
one episode they will be sure to make a strong argument. The article then goes on to provide a
synopsis of the episode while simultaneously addressing the questions and moral dilemmas that the
content brings to the surface. Some of these include the process of changing the meaning of a word

The gay rights group GLAAD argues the idea that the word remains a hateful slur, a conduit for
harassment and bullying. Schulzke calls this response a thoughtful objection raised by those with the
best perspectives of the word s effects. Although this is true, the word will never change its meaning if
society is afraid to use it in any other ways. The fear of the word itself is simply extra fuel that allows
it to survive as a hateful slur. It is entirely possible for the word faggot to change its meaning in the
near future, but it is also important to be aware of the population s current understanding. Finally,
satire can always be misconstrued, and those watching the show who may be young or naïve could
potentially misinterpret the show s overall message. They may think it is acceptable to use the word
faggot after watching the episode, even in circumstances where it could offend those around them. All
of these points must be taken into account when criticizing South Park s bold statement within The F

It s fair to say, certainly by now at least, EA Sports know that they re going to top the sales charts each

last year saw significant refinements from FIFA 16 to 17, there certainly isn t as many wholesale

Pleasingly, although not perfectly, FIFA 18 stays true to the style of play certain teams are known for.
Though one can argue that this was true of FIFA 17 and to a degree, previous installments, the
2017/2018 season is still in its infancy and where Liverpool play a similar way to last season, Man
City s attacking style is slighly different with FIFA 18 mimicking it rather well.
The care for attention to detail is also true to that of individulal players. While it would be impossible
to uniquely program thousands of players individually, the bigger name, as well as some lesser known
players, all have their own style of play. Of course, Ronaldo and Messi play like their real life
counterparts but it s refreshing to see a player like Matt Ritchie behave in a similar fashon to real life.
While tactical set ups and individual players are sound, as far as AI behaviour goes when adapting
during a match, I haven t noticed too many differences between FIFA s 17 and 18. However, one
noticible difference involves how teams react when falling a goal or two behind.
One gripe I ve always had of FIFA games is how the AI reacts to going a goal or two down early on.
Teams tend to go kamikaze and pile men forward prematurity leaving gaps in defence. This behaviour
is common at the latter stages of a real match but not so much early on. With FIFA 18, teams do seem

Essay about It s Time to Reform the Endangered Species Act
It s Time to Reform the Endangered Species Act
In 1973, Congress passed the Endangered Species Act. The Act was passed in response to findings by
Congress that growth and development were responsible for the extinction of species of fish, wildlife
and plants.
This Act was to provide programs to protect species identified as either endangered or threatened. It
also mandated Federal agencies and departments to protect endangered and threatened species in their
own operations, as well as work with State and local agencies to further promote conservation and
protection of identified species.
By the definition of the Endangered Species Act, a species covered by the legislation is either
classified Endangered if threatened with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They felt Recovery plans all too often manage for extinction rather than for survival .
The National Wildlife Institute has published Conservation Under the Endangered Species Act: A
Promise Broken . Their critique of the Act includes questioning the programs undertaken as a result of
the Act have played sufficient roles in the recovery of species that were delisted, as well as
questioning the allocation of funding to programs intended to aid listed species.
The National Endangered Species Act Reform Coalition is questioning the effectiveness of the Act, as
well as its impact on people. Pointing to the poor progress of removing species from the Endangered
and Threatened lists, the group calls on reform of the Act, to reform the methods for determining
eligibility for listing, opening the listing and regulatory processes of the Act to include participation
from all groups affected by the legislation, and providing more incentives for private citizens and
businesses to pro actively participate in conservation of listed species.
MY OPINION
While well intended, the Act has some shortcomings, as indicated by the lack of progress in getting
species off the list. This indicates that the programs that are part of the Act are failing to accomplish
their mandated objective.
Also, while biodiversity is crucial to protect, there are natural processes

Nowell died on May 25, 1996, in a San Francisco hotel room, after
shooting up some heroin that was much too potent for his body to
handle. His death occurred seven days after his wedding to Troy
Denkker, who d given birth to their son, Jakob, 11 months before the
release of Sublime, the album that would make his band famous. By
April 1997, a little less than a year after Nowell s OD, Sublime had
entered Billboard s Top 20, and the album s first single, the smooth,
and grooving song What I Got, went to Number 1 on the Modern
Rock chart. And that was only the beginning. Throughout 1997,
Sublime produced hit after hit, and the album has sold more than 2
million copies to date. The big hit was the reggae sounding song
Santeria. Then came the ska, Wrong Way, and finally the dance club
favorite, Doin time, which Nowell constructed around the same
melody another song Summertime. Eighteen months after Nowell s
death, Sublime sold about 40,000 records every week, in November,
MCA released Second Hand Smoke, a collection of early songs.

The Cove Psihoyos
The Cove, directed by Louie Psihoyos, is an award winning documentary that spotlights how the
Japanese hunt and kill dolphins by the tens of thousands and how a group of people try to stop and
expose this to the world. The chapter about the International Whaling Commission (IWC) brings
forward a few key points that need to be discussed. The IWC is a group of nations that come together
and make decisions based on how they can preserve cetaceans. The smaller cetaceans, like dolphins,
are not protected under the bigger umbrella. In order to bypass the rules of the IWC, a loophole is
used; a nation can claim that they are killing and collecting whales for research and the IWC will not
stop them. The Japanese are trying to legalize whaling worldwide. ... Show more content on

Why are dolphins looked differently than whales? Could it be that when the International Whaling
Commission was formed; it was formed by nations that would like to keep whaling alive? This could
be the reason why the smaller Cetaceans are not protected under the ruling of the IWC. In every
meeting that the IWC have, the Japanese keep trying to make whaling legal. At the cove, they don t
allow pictures to be taken. That is because they are hiding something illegal. Even when the IWC
starts to act on this, it will take them a very long time because there are a lot of governments meeting
at once. They cannot come to terms on a problem and even more so when they are focusing on the
wrong group of whales that are being

Essay on Comparison Between the Great Gatsby and Ebb Sonnets
A deeper understanding of aspirations and identity emerges from considering the parallels between the
Great Gatsby and Browning s poetry . Compare how these texts explore aspirations and identity?
Both the texts The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald and Sonnets from the Portuguese by Elizabeth
Barrett Browning explore the ideas of aspirations and identity developing a deeper understanding of
the texts. Both texts share these ideas through the characters and the values of idealism and hope, and
personal voice and identity. Although the two texts are separated in time and context, they both reflect
the world of the text and composer.
Sonnets from the Portuguese was written during the 19th Century in the period known as the ... Show

She continues to list her idealized love in Sonnets 43 and 14, stating that love should be pure as men
turn from praise , a love which people endure because it is right and correct. She again through
imagery demands the purity of genuine love that can grow through time and endure on, through loves
eternity . This clearly explores the idea of aspirations, hope and idealism within the sonnet sequence.
The Sonnet sequence also involves the idea of identity with Barrett Browning coming to terms with
her emerging sexuality and realisation of love. The sequence was written by Barrett Browning thus
providing a personal voice to the sonnets allowing a portrayal of the sequence of events of her
personal identity and expression of love. Throughout the sonnet sequence Browning develops a
stronger sense and realisation of her love for Robert, hence shaping her identity. By sonnet 43 a series
of elements introduced by the simple phrase I love thee where the repetition intensifies the
affirmation, she declares that her love is free and pure and possesses passion. Most importantly
Browning now holds a sense of identity as she has achieved her idealized type of love.
The Great Gatsby was written in the early 20th Century during the period known as the Roaring
Twenties or the Jazz age . It was a time where money was

For E Editors, the premium charged for Castor Standard is $3,485 and earnings are $5.58 million (University of Phoenix, 2011). The risks and returns in this plan are low (University of Phoenix, 2011). A comparison of the expected utilization and the returns from providing Castor Standard to this group shows that the risks are quite high, and earnings from this plan are not sufficient to cover them (University of Phoenix, 2011). This plan is not the best choice of plan for E Editors because one could mitigate risks by providing a different plan or by not insuring the group (University of Phoenix, 2011). Risk adverse customers buy health insurance to avoid losing income or wealth when indisposed (University of Phoenix, 2011). • 6. Why I Learned With Studying Linguistics I was the child who never knew what she wanted to be when she grew up. I could see myself doing everything because I knew that I could do anything. Fascinated by their complexity and similarities, I slowly fell in love with languages. Nothing is quite as beautiful as their nuances and how they vary among people. With this novel fascination, I decided that I wanted to learn as many languages as I possibly could and everything about them and their connections to other languages. In addition, understanding intricate grammar rules comes easily to me, and I have always enjoyed its structure and patterns. If I combine these two interests of mine, it is apparent that I should study linguistics. I had figured out what I wanted to study, but not what to do after college. I remembered helping my friends in Latin last year with the grammar rules of English and how I am constantly correcting my family s improper grammar, and I realized that I love explaining and teaching languages. With this realization, I decided that I want to teach English as a second language. Now I had to decide what college to attend. After obsessing over the magnificent Hogwarts in all of its glory in Harry Potter, I couldn t imagine not wanting to go to castle looking college. Who doesn t want to go to a college that looks like a castle? Being the perfect amalgamation of appearance and exemplary linguistics department, Cambridge is the school for me. It is the varying genetics that each species carries that makes it different and unique . Biodiversity is important, not only in evolution, but in survival; when sometimes those terms can mean the very same thing. Interestingly, biodiversity can mean a variance in the life itself or within the genetics of a species. In keeping breeding habits within the same lineage, some animals risk lower biodiversity and sometimes even deformities and disease, as they are able to more easily pass on unfavorable hereditary traits. In increasing the overall biodiversity, the only risk is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Species possibly saved as a result of population management include the Koala, Partula snails, and Sarracenia alabamensis. The koala was experiencing a population decline in Australia which prompted an initiative known as the Koala Habitat Program. The goal of this program is to increase the size of the habitat for the koala. The Queensland Government has provided $22.5 million in funding to acquire new land (Queensland Government, 2014). The Partula snail is another species very critically endangered. As this species population recovers in captivity, the hope is to release them into the wild. This process has to be done carefully after the African land snail was imported to a small island in the Pacific and soon got out of control. This snail was eating the crops that grow on the island. Eventually, a second species of snail, the Florida rosy wolfsnail, was brought in to prey on the Partula snail to get the population under control (Marwell Wildlife, 2014). The Sarracenia Alabamensis, also known as the Cane brake pitcher plant, was in need of a program to stabilize its population. This plant was endangered because it was located in areas where land was cheap to acquire and when the land was developed, it reduced the number of plants. The first program ... According to the UNOS, the company that maintains the organ transplant list, there are various factors that are under consideration when an organ is available. Things like blood type, tissue type, medical urgency, and proximity to the donor are all taken into consideration; factors like age, income, or racial/ethnic background are not even taken into consideration. Furthermore, the transplant list is more like a pool than a list. One of the patients , Patient A, limb failed due to a freak car accident where he was t boned by a drunk driver. On the other hand, Patient B s limb failed due to heroin addiction, an outcome he was fully aware of as an avid user. Now, who deserves the limb transplant? If we just consider the distributive norm of need in our definition of distributive justice, we will be stuck at an impasse. Because both Patients A and B are both in dire straits, we can say that they both a have strong claim to the scarce good in question. However, if we consider including the distributive norm of equity in the definition of distributive justice, this problem can be remedied. The norm is equity is as follows: a person s claim to a scarce good should be dependent on how much of a role he or she plays in the outcome (Anderson). In other words, this would mean that those who work harder deserve a larger share of outcome than those who do not put in as much effort. In the case of organ transplants, we can apply this norm as the following: a patient s claim to an organ is dependent on how little of a role they play in their need for a transplant. This essentially means that those who play a less active role in harm caused to their organs have a better claim than those who are actively damaging their organs. Now, applying this norm to our definition of distributive justice, we will be able to determine that Patient A is more deserving of the limb transplant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Great Train Robbery And Edwin Porter In this essay I will be discussing five key points throughout Post Production history between the 1900s 1960s. Post Production is seen as a vital component in the cinematic industry as it essentially finalises the final products. Techniques that have been developed over the years are incredibly important, but they all have an origin. Although these techniques started out without overwhelming effect, they are now unbelievably crucial to how films are constructed. The five points I wish to discuss go as follows: The Great Train Robbery and Edwin Porter himself, D.W. Griffith and his overwhelming influence on editing, The Jazz Singer, the Kuleshov Effect and finally, 2001: A Space Odyssey. As well as discussing these key factors, this essay will take into consideration secondary material. In the early years of post production, there was a distinct lack of editing within the film industry. Everything filmed was for the most part one continuous shot and lacking too much creativity in the post production region. Edwin Porter was one of the key founders that changed the way post production was addressed. Although he originally filmed following what is referred to as Aristotelian construction (Musser, 1991, p167) he began paying closer attention to how a story could be told more effectively through visual representation. Edwin began straying away from Aristotelian construction and instead opted to use cutting to help him create the story he wished to create. Whilst this was not an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Bailey McDaniel meant by this is that women couldn t speak their ideas and how it was frustrating for them. Like in the play, the women were trying to help the men, but the men clearly didn t want their help or they just make fun of them, as a result, the women took matters in their own hands. Not only does the title have symbolic meaning but also the names of the female characters are also symbolic. Susan Glaspell purposely hid the names of the female characters to symbolize that they don t have an identity. Only the men receive a first name in Trifles, while the play refers to the women by their husbands last names. The role that society has cast them in is one that is defined by their husbands. This shows how women were oppressed by not allowing them to have their own names unless they were called by their husband s last name. Susan Glaspell gives good examples in how their marital status changes the female characters s names. In the play Mrs. Hale says: ... I heard she used to wear pretty clothes and be lively, when she was Minnie Foster... (1972). The reader can see how the name changes according to her marital status, and how she was unhappy probably because she was being oppressed by her husband. The disorder causes the gland to secrete excess growth hormone which the body doesn t need. Acromegaly translates into acro extremities and megaly enlargement. In an Acromegalic patient elevated level of growth hormone in the bloodstream is responsible for enlargement of certain organs and body parts throughout the body which eventually become permanent changes. Essay about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Our memories change the way in which we see the world The idea that our memories change the way on which we see the world and ultimately change reality is a difficult one to understand. An answer to this question depends on the way we define reality. If we define reality as objective then it can not be altered by memories. However if we define reality as subjective, then, yes, our memories can affect our reality. But what do we mean by memories? What do we mean by relationship? What follows is an attempt to answer some of these questions, and see whether and how our memories affect our reality. Through witnessing the trial, Scout learns a lot about Maycomb and its inhabitants, particularly Bob Ewell, Mayella Ewell, Tom Robinson, Dolphus Raymond and her own father, Atticus. Bob Ewell is the villain of the To Kill A Mockingbird and, as a result of the trial, he attempts to get revenge on Atticus and his family. However, in the trial itself he is depicted as a very unpleasant person, not only by his appearance, a little bantam cock of a man but also by his conduct. But through meeting Dolphus with Dill, Scout is informed that he pretends to be an alcoholic because it was the only way the Maycomb would accept him. He says this was so because they could not grasp a sane white person ever living with coloured folks. Scout and the readers learn that we shouldn t judge people by appearances. Although she judges Dolphus by his reputation, her opinion changes after she has met him something that sadly the white jury of the trial is incapable of doing regarding Tom Robinson. This scene underlines the prejudices of the white community, with hints that if a white person loves a black person they have to have an excuse for it and with Scout discovers more about the simple hell people give other people. • 15. Conformity And Social Conformity Introduction Conformity shapes our everyday decisions, whether it is acknowledged or not. How individuals are perceived by society and our peers puts an immense pressure on a person both in groups and privately, actively changing behavior that they may not normally take part in. An individual may change their behavior due to the chance of becoming an outcast. The ultimate fear or possibility of being an outcast influences individuals to conform to social norms. Psychological researchers have long been interested in the reasoning behind social conformity. Social conformity can result in the change of behavior or even the belief of an individual when it comes to them trying to fit within a group. The change can be due to pressure from a social group. By looking deeper into group size and familiarity, it is possible to accurately predict behavior for groups and individuals in the future. In psychology, conformity is defined as the alteration of one s beliefs and behaviors to better match those around you. There are typically two different forms of conformity, normative and informational. Normative conformity is becoming compliant to group pressure with the want to fit in. On the other hand, Information conformity refers to when a person looks to the group for guidance when they lack knowledge in a certain area. Conformity also can range in different levels such as from how people dress to how people act in public. This force is what drives even the most simple of decisions that a person will make on a daily basis. As a result, these individuals conform to other people s behaviors. For example, just like a public compliance, which is when a person conforms to another s behavior even if they do not necessarily believe or agree of the person s words or actions. In society, conformity puts pressure on citizens to either conform to the laws they are given or face legal consequences. Conformity creates something called group norms , which are an informal set of social rules that are often unspoken. (Group Norms) When a person violates these norms, they will often find themselves in conflict with the rest of the group, and can potentially be removed. Conformity has been well documented and researched, with one of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The deceased were worked to death in labor camps or gassed, burned, or tortured in concentration camps. By the time the killings stopped in 1945, the Jewish population had dwindled to just three million survivors. One of those survivors was Arek Hersh, a Polish citizen. The Patient Protection And Affordable Care Act On March 23, 2010, President Obama signed into law the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), the most comprehensive reform of the U.S. medical system in at least 45 years. The ACA transforms the non group insurance market in the United States, mandates that most residents have health insurance, significantly expands public insurance and subsidizes private insurance coverage, raises revenues from a variety of new taxes, and reduces and reorganizes spending under the nation s largest health insurance plan, Medicare. If fully implemented, the ACA promises to lead to a dramatically different health care landscape for the United States in the years to come. Projecting the impacts of such fundamental reform to the health care system is fraught with difficulty. But such projections were required for the legislative process, and were delivered by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). CBO projected that the ACA would increase health insurance coverage by 32 million people and would raise federal government spending by almost $1 trillion over the subsequent decade, but would raise revenues and reduce spending by even more so that the bill overall reduced the federal budget deficit. These CBO projections were central to the legislative debate over the ACA. Mallard s unexpected bout of joy also supports the theme; if she was not feeling confined, her feelings of grief would not have been replaced by excessive joy. It is further understood that the character was released from a constricted marriage because the words willingly slip roll off her tongue. The last example occurs during and after Mrs. Mallard watches the tops of trees that were all aquiver with the new spring life (Chopin 1). This shows that the character s image of the world is already changed since she was informed of her husband s death. In the twelfth paragraph, Chopin uses her character s new perspective of the world to exemplify the confinement women felt. The character understood she had no one to live for during those coming years; she would live for herself (Chopin 2). Mrs. Mallard s thoughts revolve around her limitations during marriage. She soon realizes that she would have no powerful will bending hers (Chopin 2). Mrs. Mallard was likely controlled her entire marriage; and now she is released from her husband s dominance. Before opening the door for her sister, she was thinking about all sorts of days that would be her own (Chopin 2). That very night Holmes runs Julia s and Helen s potential killer back up the rope and back to its master, Roylott, where it then kills him instead (Doyle, 1994, p. 171). Doyle makes the crime significant to the reader because it involves a young woman who is in danger of losing her life if someone does come and save her, and he makes it memorable too because it is significant that Helen s own stepfather Roylott would be trying to murder her. The Man with the Twisted Lip Doyle in The Man with the Twisted Lip describes to the readers a crime spoken of by Holmes of a man named Neville St. Clair who has went missing without a trace. The reader learns of no body being found, and leads some to suspect that Neville St. Clair might not even be dead. This was the start of modern day cold cases. If you do not have a body it is kind of hard to start an investigation. However, Holmes does what he can and makes the case interesting. Sherlock Holmes states, there were no signs of violence upon any of these garments, and there were no traces of Mr. Neville St. Clair (Doyle, 1994, p. 120). These garments Holmes speaks of belong to Mr. Neville St. Clair, but there are no signs of violence towards him as saw by the state of his clothes. • 23. The Indian Independence Movement The history of the Indian Independence Movement against the British in the 20th Century was evidently influenced and motivated by the underlying differences and perceptions of communal identities. The freedom struggle in essence was also an assertion of the interests and aspirations of the diverse communities of the Indian subcontinent. The Indian National Congress and the Muslim League were the two big powers that sought to mobilize public sentiments in the quest for Independence. While the Muslim League (formed in 1906), stood as a symbol of Islamic nationalism, the INC on the other hand was seen as pro Hindu (with a strong influence of radical groups like the Hindu Mahasabha). Mohammad Ali Jinnah, initially a Congress nationalist, joined the Muslim League in 1913 in order to align the views of the two communities in their collective struggle for freedom. The result was The Lucknow Pact which laid down the constitutional framework of seat and power sharing arrangements for elections to the Provincial Legislative Councils. Muslims were provided with separate electorates and one third representation in the Central government. Symbolism in A Doll House Jasmine Shughoury Stoltzfus IB World Lit 1 May 2014 WL#1 Word Count: 1,456 The Use of Symbolism in A Doll House Author Margaret Trudeau once said, I can t be a rose in any man s lapel ( I Can t Be ). This quote expresses exactly what was going through many women s minds during the 1800 s in Norway. Women had let their husbands control their lives for ages before the 1800 s. Soon, they could no longer stand being the rose in their husbands lapel. The women of Norway longed for freedom and began to rebel. Henrik Ibsen s play, A Doll House, displays what women were going through during that time. Nora realizes that she cannot stand living in Torvald s doll house anymore being his perfect little doll, and she wants to become more than just a doll, so she leaves. Nora as Torvald s doll clearly symbolizes how women were so submissive to their husbands during that time period in Norway. Another symbol Ibsen uses throughout the play is the macaroons as a symbol of women s independence, to show how they longed for freedom from their husbands. The first time the macaroons are used as a symbol is in the beginning of the play when Torvald does not allow Nora to eat macaroons. It is shown how Nora tries to hide them from her husband when she first arrives at home. When Torvald asks when she arrived at home she says, Just now. (Putting the macaroon bag in her pocket and wiping her mouth.) Do come in, Torvald, and see what I ve bought (Ibsen 44; Act 1). Torvald doesn t allow Nora to eat macaroons, so Nora tries to hide them from him. In the beginning of the play, Nora is submissive to Torvald and tries to be what he sees as a perfect spouse, although she doesn t get treated like a spouse should be treated. She is controlled by Torvald because in his eyes, a perfect spouse is a doll that he controls, which Nora tries to be, for example by hiding the macaroons so he doesn t know that she disobeyed him. For an example, the civil rights movement was growing, and the campaign against communism revealed the hidden divisions in American society. A group of Americans that is continually growing spoke out against inequality and injustice during the 1950s. African Americans had been fighting against racial discrimination for centuries; during the 1950s, however, the struggle against racism and segregation entered the mainstream of American life. (History, The 1950s) Although they weren t very common, they were definitely frowned upon by society. The Loving v. Holistic And Holistic Nursing Care Essay Holistic Nursing Care Norma Valdez Rosa South University Online Complementary Alternative Methods Introduction Holistic nursing is defined as all nursing practice that has healing the whole person as its goal (Dossey, 2012). Holistic nursing does not replace medicinal practice; rather, it incorporates the whole patient into the nursing care plan with the outcome being that of a healthier patient. Holistic Nurse Self Care is the most important core value of the Holistic Nursing Care standards because of the importance of nurse self care to the delivery of quality patient care. In order to be able to meet all the needs of the patient, a nurse needs to be prepared in mind, body and spirit. Holistic Nurse Self Care The Holistic Nursing Care standards are based on five core values: holistic philosophy and education; holistic ethics, theories and research; holistic nurse self care; holistic communication, therapeutic environment and cultural competence; and holistic caring process. In my opinion, Holistic Nurse Self Care ranks as the most important value that should be incorporated into the Holistic nurse s practice. As a nurse, I feel that nurses have to take care of themselves in order to be able to take care of their patients and deliver high quality care to them. • 28. Technology And Modern Society Sometimes in life, we have to learn how to take a joke. In a society where making fun of a serious issue is often looked down upon, people tend to lose their sense of humor and forget about maintaining a positive mindset. Although there are situations and events that should not be made fun of, there are still minor flaws in society that should be pointed out. One of these flaws is the way technology is being used by today s generation. Our minds are becoming consumed and preoccupied by modern technology. The advancement of technology has had an enormous impact on our world. Whether it has had a positive or negative impact is debatable, however, technology has indeed changed the lives of millions of people around the world. One journalist who efficiently managed to describe this issue is Peter Greene. Peter Greene is a contributor for the Huffington Post. His satire A Classroom of Tomorrow takes place in a classroom where the teacher is focusing his/her lesson more on the sponsored technology than actually teaching the children. This piece of satire was intriguing due to the fact that it focused on a concept that is prevalent in today s world. As technology continues to develop day by day, more questions about the use of technology arise. Technology is a pivotal aspect of modern society which is why Greene felt the need to talk about issues surrounding technology. This piece of satire also focusses on America s education system and the funding behind it. In the satire, the school prioritized sponsorships. If a student did not have a sponsorship deal, they were perceived as poor. As a result, they were not given the same quality of education as the other students who did have sponsorship deals. This issue corresponds with a larger issue in America which is the funding given to public schools. Schools are mostly funded by the local and state governments. The issue with this is that the poorer regions are given less funding for their schools. This drastically affects a student s learning experience since their quality of education and their access to resources are dependent on their financial situation. The main targets of this satire are poverty, the government, and the way people of this generation are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Movies, music, and media glorify promiscuous behavior, and people are putting off marriage until later in life. As American culture continues to shift towards a romanticized view of premarital sexual intercourse, one ought to ask his or herself if this is truly a morally permissible act. Personally, I find this behavior alarming, and in this essay, I hope to persuade readers as to why premarital sexual intercourse should not be accepted or encouraged. I will begin by criticizing a typical modus tollens argument pro premarital sexual intercourse advocates often present. Next, I will defend my claim that the presented argument is unsound by providing an equivalent example. I will then address a possible objection to my stance, and I will overcome this objection by examining a few of the numerous negative consequences to premarital sexual intercourse. The pro premarital sexual intercourse argument is as follows: 1) If premarital sexual intercourse is morally impermissible for adults, then it is reasonable to prohibit premarital sexual intercourse for adults (given what we know about the growth and development of young men and women). 2) It is not reasonable to prohibit premarital sexual intercourse for adults (given what we know about the growth and development of young men and women). 3) So, it is not the case that premarital sexual intercourse is ... From the long lists of names, there is always one name that rises above all the others, Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln is commonly known as the one of the nation s greatest president because of his accomplishments and achievements, especially during the civil war. However, even before his presidency, Lincoln had a respectable reputation amongst the people. He was known to defuse the tension between two people through his humor and optimistic view of life. Lincoln s victory in the election of 1860 caused the South to secede from the union, thus creating a costly and bloody war that forever changed America. Although it was one of the worst times in American history, Lincoln remained loyal to the people and was a strong leader throughout his presidency; his contributions to America will never be forgotten. Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Hardin Country, Kentucky. His parents were Thomas and Nancy Lincoln who raised him with a modest upbringing. At a young age, Lincoln lost his mother to a milk sickness in 1818. Just over a year of his mother s death, his father remarried to Sarah Johnston, a strong and loving woman with whom Abraham had quickly become close to. The fear of the word itself is simply extra fuel that allows it to survive as a hateful slur. Though one can argue that this was true of FIFA 17 and to a degree, previous installments, the 2017/2018 season is still in its infancy and where Liverpool play a similar way to last season, Man City s attacking style is slighly different with FIFA 18 mimicking it rather well. The care for attention to detail is also true to that of individulal players. While it would be impossible to uniquely program thousands of players individually, the bigger name, as well as some lesser known players, all have their own style of play. Of course, Ronaldo and Messi play like their real life counterparts but it s refreshing to see a player like Matt Ritchie behave in a similar fashon to real life. While tactical set ups and individual players are sound, as far as AI behaviour goes when adapting during a match, I haven t noticed too many differences between FIFA s 17 and 18. However, one noticible difference involves how teams react when falling a goal or two behind. One gripe I ve always had of FIFA games is how the AI reacts to going a goal or two down early on. Teams tend to go kamikaze and pile men forward prematurity leaving gaps in defence. This behaviour is common at the latter stages of a real match but not so much early on. With FIFA 18, teams do seem less partial to keep throwing men forward nonsensically when falling behind, now only doing so when the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The National Endangered Species Act Reform Coalition is questioning the effectiveness of the Act, as well as its impact on people. Pointing to the poor progress of removing species from the Endangered and Threatened lists, the group calls on reform of the Act, to reform the methods for determining eligibility for listing, opening the listing and regulatory processes of the Act to include participation from all groups affected by the legislation, and providing more incentives for private citizens and businesses to pro actively participate in conservation of listed species. MY OPINION While well intended, the Act has some shortcomings, as indicated by the lack of progress in getting species off the list. This indicates that the programs that are part of the Act are failing to accomplish their mandated objective. Also, while biodiversity is crucial to protect, there are natural processes ... The Cove Psihoyos The Cove, directed by Louie Psihoyos, is an award winning documentary that spotlights how the Japanese hunt and kill dolphins by the tens of thousands and how a group of people try to stop and expose this to the world. The chapter about the International Whaling Commission (IWC) brings forward a few key points that need to be discussed. The IWC is a group of nations that come together and make decisions based on how they can preserve cetaceans. The smaller cetaceans, like dolphins, are not protected under the bigger umbrella. In order to bypass the rules of the IWC, a loophole is used; a nation can claim that they are killing and collecting whales for research and the IWC will not stop them. She continues to list her idealized love in Sonnets 43 and 14, stating that love should be pure as men turn from praise , a love which people endure because it is right and correct. She again through imagery demands the purity of genuine love that can grow through time and endure on, through loves eternity . This clearly explores the idea of aspirations, hope and idealism within the sonnet sequence. The Sonnet sequence also involves the idea of identity with Barrett Browning coming to terms with her emerging sexuality and realisation of love. The sequence was written by Barrett Browning thus providing a personal voice to the sonnets allowing a portrayal of the sequence of events of her personal identity and expression of love. Throughout the sonnet sequence Browning develops a stronger sense and realisation of her love for Robert, hence shaping her identity. By sonnet 43 a series of elements introduced by the simple phrase I love thee where the repetition intensifies the affirmation, she declares that her love is free and pure and possesses passion. Most importantly Browning now holds a sense of identity as she has achieved her idealized type of love.
