The Pros And Cons Of Genetic Screening
There s over 13,000 people in Australia that have down syndrome in our modern day. The quality of
life for people that have down syndrome can be drastically improved by meeting special health care
needs. People with Down Syndrome can achieve their optimal quality of life through parental care and
government support, medical guidance and community support systems like inclusive education at all

The Path of Friendship Essay
Hello? Her stressed and tired tones channeled across the phone wire.
Hi, I answered.
Hellooooo! What s up? With the recognition her voice instantly became light and easy.
Nothing. Hey, guess what? I have to write a personal narrative. No one here knows me well
enough to help, so I thought I d call you.
A personal narrative, huh? What are you gonna write about?
I don t know. That s why I called you. The only recent life changing occurrence that comes to

You ll see, I joked. But I need to go now.
Yeah, that s probably a good idea. I ll talk to you later.
Alright. See ya. I hung up the phone, looked blankly at my computer screen and let its whiteness
spellbind me. The darkness of the night seeped through my partly opened blinds. It was a full moon
again, just like it had been the night I had left.
I stared out the car window at the moon, holding her letter in my hand. Her words, written in the voice
I knew so well, echoed in my head. ...Today, we both separate, going down different paths of life. It s
weird to part after traveling the same way for so long.
I glanced down at the computerized image of a blue moon set against the pitch blackness of a night
sky. It seemed so lonely, so cold. This moon is for you. It s our moon, always there even when you can
t see it.
I gazed back up at the sky. I remember thinking how ironic it was that it was a full moon the last lunar
phase before it started all over again. I wasn t sure if I wanted, if I was ready for a new moon yet. Not
if it meant being thousands of miles away from the only person who knew me better than I knew
myself.
A cloud covered the moon, then moved past as the car crawled along the endless freeway. It was the
first time I didn t complain my mom was only driving 65 miles per hour: I didn t care as long as I
could be that much closer to home for that much longer. I looked at the clock. It had been only thirty

The Punk Rock Movement
1. INTRODUCTION
This report uses Heding et al. s seven approaches to branding (2009) to investigate John Lydon s
relevance, strengths and weaknesses as a brand. John Lydon also known as Johnny Rotten is a singer,
musician and songwriter, famous for being the lead singer of the Sex Pistols (1975 1978) and of the
Public Image Ltd (PiL) (1978 present). This report mainly focuses on Lydon s experience in PiL,
which represents the longest part of his career compared to Sex Pistols relatively short life.
Although the literature recognises that artists can produce powerful brands, the separation between art
and business has partly obscured the potential developments of branding studies in the context of the
cultural industries (Schroeder, 2006, 1291 1292). Considered the pioneer of the Punk Rock movement
and one of the most influential and controversial musicians of all times, Lydon represents an
interesting case study to offer new insights in the applicability of branding theories to artists.
The main body of this report contains seven chapters, one for each of the seven approaches identified
by Heding et al. (2009, 22 25): the identity approach, the personality approach, the consumer based
approach, the economic approach, the relational approach, the community approach and the cultural
approach. Using their model and a great variety of academic frameworks has allowed to deliver a
comprehensive analysis of John Lydon s brand. The discussion section reveals the

A Brief Note On The Conservation Of Ruins
CONSERVATION OF RUINS A heritage ruin is defined as a disused and incomplete place comes in
all shapes and sizes, that through abandonment, redundancy or condition, usually no longer
maintained and unlikely to serves its original function or purpose other than interpretation (Australian
Heritage Council, 2013). Rizzi, added the definition of ruin from architectural point of view: A
building which having lost a substantial part of its architectural form has ceased to function as such.
Elementary, but full of implications: a building that has lost its natural defences (roof, windows,
plasters, etc), unarmed against the ravages of atmospheric agents and consequently more vulnerable to
the destructive effect of time; A building that has stopped to fulfill its functions, to shelter human
activities and which, in a sense, has begun its journey towards progressive decline and final
disappearance . (Rizzi 2007, p.xx). Although the term ruins implies the abandoned condition of the
building materials, this condition does not resemble the loss of heritage values embedded to it
(Australian Heritage Council, 2013). For this reason, it is obvious that heritage ruins are equally as
important as any other historic building survived. It is the evidence of past human activity; a shared
resources that retain important heritage values, and potentially possess tangible and intangible heritage
attributes (Drury and McPherson 2008, Australian Heritage Council 2013). During the last

This process includes five imperative steps that enable us to be persevered after death. The first step,
embalming and anatomical dissection, is a process involving halting decay by pumping formalin into
the body through the arteries. The formalin will kill the bacteria throughout our bodies and chemically
stops the decay of the tissue. Than, using dissection tools, the skin and fatty and connective tissues are
removed to prepare the individual anatomical structures. The second step, removal of body fat and
water, is a process which water and soluble fats are dissolved from the body by placing it into a
solvent bath (which is basically called an acetone bath.) The third step, forced impregnation, is quite
the interesting step. During this process, a reactive polymer (silicone rubber) replaces the acetone. The

The Demise Of The Qing Dynasty
Many people argued that Empress Dowager Cixi accelerated the speed of the demise of the Qing
dynasty. Cixi might be a blasting fuse but she was not accounted for the final fall of the dynasty. The
actions Cixi took had profoundly changed the foundation of feudal China so as to push China forward
into a modern stage. Although many historical data suggested that whatever Cixi had done were to
consolidate her authority and personal status. But no matter what, the impact on the country was
obvious. Cixi broke the previous traditions from Confucianism that had been lasted for centuries.
Tensions between the Manchus and Han Chinese had been greatly improved, which made a great
contribution to China for later unification. Under the reign of the Empress Dowager, the social
structure had undergone a series of changes. Qing s demise is doomed, this was resulted from issues
that had stacked up from previous generations. Moreover, Cixi did her best to secure China s status in
the world in such a chaotic period in history. She made undeniable contributions to China.
Confucianism is a traditional ideology that has already penetrated into every Chinese head. Its main
principle is to follow the past, changes and new technologies or new objects are not necessary.
Whatever happened in the past are the best standards to follow. The way that Qing government
responded after being defeated in the Opium War was shocking from current perspective. China

Classical Conditioning Vs Observational Learning
From an early age, it is drilled into our heads: Restlessness, distraction, and ignorance are the enemies
of success. We re told that learning is all self discipline, that we must confine ourselves to designated
study areas, turn off the music, and maintain a strict ritual if we want to ace that test, memorize that
presentation, and create writing assignment.
There are three major methods of learning. Which are classical conditioning, operant conditioning,
and observational learning. Classical conditioning theory involves learning a new behavior via the
process of association. In simple terms, two stimuli are linked together to produce a new learned
response in a person or animal. There are three stages of classical conditioning stage 1: Before ...

This method is better in a way that by observing others, we can quickly gain knowledge about which
behaviors are likely to lead to good outcomes. What I remember from my childhood is that everything
I learned was by watching everyone else. For example every time my mom would want to teach me
something knew she would demonstrate it to me. I learned a lot by seeing what others did. When my
aunt started to cook I loved watching her cook to see how she made the food. Now that I became older
I know how to cook by just watching my aunt cook when I was younger. I also learned how to ride the
bike because my mom thought me how to ride it with demonstrations. I believe most of the people in
this world learn by observing others. Is an easier way to learn and is not too complicated. Just like the
saying monkey see, monkey do . When people see other people doing something they want to do it as
well I believe is just a human instinct we have developed with time. Till this day I learn better with

The Conflict Between White People And Black People
The bloodiest Civil War war in the United States history was not cure of everything. After the war,
social problems existed for long years. White people and black people kept fighting. Racism was a
very big problem. White people killed lots of black people for no reason. Even after KKK, white
people kept causing problems and killing black people. One of the examples is the Elaine Race Riot.
This bloody riot started in September 30, 1919 in Phillips County s Elaine Town in Arkansas. In this
essay, I am going to write about this riot and its details.
The Elaine Riot was one of the biggest conflict between white people and black people in the United
States history. A shooting incident started the riot. It happened at a meeting of the Progressive Farmers
and Household Union of America and it led white people to start a riot against black people in Elaine
town in Phillips County, Arkansas and surrounding areas. Around 200 of black people and 5 white
people were killed. However, exact number is not known.
The incident happened in September 30, 1919. Around 100 black sharecropper, who were working on

The Anxiety Of Lithium Chloride Causes Mild Illness
Introduction
Animals can be conditioned to display or not display a variety of behaviors and emotions, including
taste preference. This form of conditioning has even been successfully done in humans by using
rotation induced motion sickness after consuming either a familiar or unfamiliar flavored beverage to
create a distaste for the beverage (especially the unfamiliar flavored one) (Arwas, Rolnick, Lubow,
1989).
A very common way to teach rats to dislike a certain taste is to give them injection(s) of lithium
chloride (LiCl) directly after consuming a taste stimulus. The lithium chloride causes mild illness,
which the rats connect to the taste stimulus, essentially because they believe the food/drink they
consumed caused the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For best results, LiCl should be measured as an absolute quantity, not as a volume or concentration
(Nachman Ashe 1973). These studies (among others) show that LiCl is an effective unconditioned
stimulus for taste aversion when administered in correct dosages.
Though many studies have observed the effects of taste aversion, fewer studies have focused on the
influence of feeding on this conditioned aversion. In essence, conditioning is a form of learning, and
learning requires memory. One study used the pond snail Lymnaea to show that food deprivation
lowers blood glucose levels and levels of insulin circulating; therefore, it decreases the animal s ability
to remember the pairing of taste stimulus and the noxious stimulus (Mita Koichi 2014).
This study manipulates the preference for sucrose by administering lithium chloride (LiCl) to the rats
after consumption of sucrose. The researchers sought to determine whether rats given access to free
feeding would display more or less taste aversion than rats who were deprived of food after the LiCl
injection.

his own cage on a nocturnal light dark cycle (lights off at 7:00 AM, lights on at 7:00 PM). Each rat

The Spinal Cord Injury ( Sci )
Introduction
Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) can result in loss or permanent damage of motor, sensory or autonomic
function, generally caused by physical trauma to the spinal cord. In humans the most common type of
SCI is hemisection or contusion (Nandoe Tewarie et al. 2009). This incomplete injury, leads to
swelling or compression of the spinal cord due to bone displacement, resulting in partial loss of
function and/or sensation. Complete severing of the spinal cord fibres can occur, although less often,
and results in impairment of all function and sensation below the trauma site (Sobani et al. 2010). Due
to the complicated physiology of the spinal cord and central nervous system, and their diminished
regenerative properties, currently, there have been no effective forms of treatment of SCI.
SCI occurs in two stages. The primary stage being the physical injury itself causing damage to the
spinal cord, resulting in bruising, a possible demyelination of axons, cell apoptosis as well as
subsequent hemorrhaging at the injury site (Inukai et al. 2009). The secondary stage involves
exacerbation of the damage via initiation of the body s inflammatory response. Immediately following
injury, pro inflammatory cytokines; interleukin beta (IL β) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) are
released from both neighboring and damaged cells, resulting in an up regulation of the inflammatory
response, resulting in cyst formation. These cysts are left behind post inflammation and hamper
recovery

Disparate Faith Traditions
The various differences of doctrine and dogma between faith traditions are often a stumbling block for
non believers, causing them to wonder how it can be said that any one religion has is correct if there
are such a plethora of them. This essay has hopefully alleviated that stumbling block to some degree,
although no written work will ever have the capacity to remove it entirely. It has been shown that
despite the immensely different beliefs that are held by the Buddhist and Catholic traditions, there is a
surprisingly large amount of common ground in the realm of practice. While Catholics believe in a
supremely good, powerful, and knowledgeable God, Buddhists have varying beliefs about divinity.
While Buddhists firmly assert that there is no real, inner self within each individual, Catholics believe

American Prisons And Justice System
One simple question asked by many familiar with the American prison system is Is it Effective? The
word effectiveness can take on many meanings such as cost effective or effective in reducing
recidivism. Recidivism, according to Merriam Webster dictionary, is the tendency to relapse into a
previous condition or mode of behavior; especially: relapse into criminal behavior . In the United
States, the time of relapse into criminal behavior has been measured by as much as 8 years by the
Bureau of Justice. It is the belief of many professionals and experts that American prisons are both
cost ineffective, and ineffective in reducing recidivism rates. The focus of American prisons and
justice system is primarily to punish the criminal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may be a bleak revelation and to many it would not be considered a surprising statistic. But, there
is a flip side. The flip side is that 23.4% of ex offenders reformed themselves. Lumping lawbreakers
into a correctional facility won t help all of them, but it will rehabilitate some of them a lot (Bozelko,
Chandra 2017). Nearly a quarter of inmates discharged from prison were reformed. This is taking into
account the lack of rehabilitation and education programs, living conditions, and safety provided in
current private or state prison facilities. So without directly and purposely focusing on improving
inmates so when released into society, they are a productive member of the working class, a
respectable twenty five percent are changed for the better. These results are arguably satisfactory
because of the annual cost to the taxpayer but nonetheless, they prove that inmates can indeed change
for the better. We can begin to examine if the cost outweigh the benefits or results given the recidivism
rate. Given the recidivism statistics, we can examine the current American conditions in prison
facilities that produce these results. Many Americans are aware of the living conditions, crime, and
lack of treatment and security in current prison. In

The immune system of the elderly is often compromised (National Health Service, 2012). The patient

Individuals originating from countries where tuberculosis is prevalent are at a higher risk of

PATHOGENESIS
As stated by Greenwood et al., (2002), the lung is often the location of initial infection. The tubercle
bacilli, consumed by macrophages in the alveolar, replicate forming the initial lesion called the Ghon
focus. The resulting primary complex formed includes the Ghon focus and enlarged hilar lymph
nodes. The nodes contain further Ghon foci which develop due to bacilli being transported by
phagocytic cells. Additionally, bacilli are propagated to many organs, tissues and other parts of the
lung by the blood and lymph system.
However, not all bacillus are destroyed during the immune response. Some survive within the
macrophage, remaining dormant and can later cause a post primary disease. In most cases, the primary
complex is destroyed, nonetheless, on rare occurrences a contagious foci develops and causes the

The Effects Of Gambling Addiction On The Brain
Shen, Glombiewski, 2013).
Biological Factors Addictions are known to activate the culmination of sites in the brain that make up
the reward centre which is responsible for feeling happiness or pleasure through the release of
dopamine (Linden, 2011). After repeated exposures, receptors in the brain build a tolerance towards
the addiction meaning that there is a need for increased stimulation to provide a similar high .
Eventually behaviour patterns develop so as to avoid withdrawal. At this point addiction is occurring
and symptoms should be observable. Like other addictions, it is believed that IAD causes a release of
dopamine in the nucleus accumbens (Ko et al., 2009). It must then be discussed why certain
behaviours or substances activate the reward centre resulting in addiction. It has been agreed that,
much similar to gambling addiction, Internet addiction functions through a variable ratio
reinforcement schedule (Young, 2011). However, it is also is theorised that those who use the Internet
or other similar technologies experience various rewards that are unpredictable in nature, depending
on the application they are using (such as: video games, emails, social media, pornography, message
boards and texting). Paired with the mood altering content of the application the reward activation is
increased. Examples of mood altering content include video games (social inclusion, achieving tasks
unobtainable in real life), pornography (sexual gratification), and online

The Three Periodic Trends
There are 3 quasi trends which are boiling point, melting point, and density and 3 periodic trends
which are atomic mass, high specific heat, and electronegativity. The trends that are periodic increase
or decrease as they go up or down the group or period. The quasi trends have regular and irregular
trends which in one group it could increase or decrease and have a another group that has an irregular
trend that in a group can increase and decrease. In the first place, high specific heat, electronegativity,
and atomic mass are both periodic trends because no matter if go down or up a group or period the
numbers will show a trend. The atomic mass is the weight of the atom in mass. Electronegativity is
when two atom share electrons and high specific heat is an amount of heat needed to change the
temperature of one gram of a substance. For example in atomic mass, going down the noble gas group
shows that it is going from the lowest atomic mass to the highest atomic mass of that group. Also, if

Density is mass divided by volume and the measurement of how compact something is. Melting point
is when the element goes from solid to a liquid and boiling point is when the element goes from a

that it goes from lowest to highest density. You can also go down from the third row and see that the

Lighting has been around since time itself existed; the first kind of lighting was fire. Fire was used to

The candle and oil based lamps still had many downfalls. One problem was that the application still
used fire as the source of light. The fire would omit carbon monoxide and always posed a threat if the
fire was not watched closely. The oil based lamps could fall over and would create a large fire by
igniting all the oil at once, burning everything flammable around the lamp. (Hayward 23 25)
The next form of lighting was the incandescent lighting, more commonly known as a light bulb, which
depended on electricity.
Thomas Alva Edison devoted all his adult life to science. Once Thomas Edison had enough money to
be comfortable, he opened a laboratory in New Jersey. He then hired a team of scientists and gave
them everything they needed to work; their job was to dream up new inventions amp;#8230;. October
21, 1929 was the fiftieth anniversary of Edison amp;#8217;s invention of the electric light. (Louis 46

The electric light was a huge scientific discovery. The electric light offered a safer, non fire based
source of light. The lighting was dependent on no fuel (other then electricity) and was widely
available for purchase or replacement. The light was also brighter and was more efficient than the
previous forms of lighting. Currently, we still use incandescent lights, but our bulbs are far more
advanced than its predecessors. (Louis 48 49)

Examples Of Byronic Hero In Jane Eyre
Byronic Heros were first introduced in Lord Byron s writing and have since then been utilized in
many different writings. In the novel Jane Eyre (1847), Charlotte Bronte creates a character that
symbolizes a Byronic Hero. Nevertheless, Mr. Rochester is considered a Byronic Hero due to certain
characteristics he has, however, this is only to an extent, as he lacks some qualities of a Byronic Hero.
He is central to the theme of Jane Eyre because he, like many others in in the novel, are searching for
a place to belong and find self identity.
Throughout the novel, it is asserted that Mr. Rochester owns the characteristics of Isolation/Wander
and Rejects Social Norms that a Byronic Hero holds. Mr. Rochester is isolated from society and exiled
by the upper class but only partially, due to his large sum of wealth. Although Rochester did not exile
himself by choice, he is considered peculiar by the other prosperous townsfolk for rejecting social
norms which causes him to be isolated. Bronte states this cause and effect chain through one of her
quotes in the novel, Come Jane come ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rochester is an important character because he is lost and can not find himself or his place in the
world. He is portrayed as a Byronic Hero with his character qualities even with the lack of a few. He is
considered a Byronic Hero for his unconventional way of living that rejects social norms and causes
everyone to isolate him and cause him to wander, leaving him moody and temperamental which also
causes him to be rebellious and commit unnamed sexual crimes throughout the novel. Although
Rochester does lack the quality of superior intellect, the abundance of the other qualities make it so

Persuasive Essay On Naps
Naps. Everyone has taken naps at some point in their life. We take them after a long day of school, a
long day of work, or when we didn t get enough sleep the night before. We take naps all the time, but
do we truly know how naps affect our body? Do we truly know how we benefit from naps? Sleep is a
complicated process that many of us take for granted. Without sleep, we would die. Sleep has many
benefits, but unfortunately some people with sleep disorders or people with night shift jobs are unable
to experience the benefits of sleep. The majority of people in the world face sleep deprivation because
they do not get the recommended eight hours of sleep a night. Since many people are constantly in a
sleep deprived state, they are unaware ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When we take naps, we are contributing to our brain forming these key memories. When conducting a
study, researchers found that our memories are formed and consolidated in the REM and Stage 2
NREM categories of sleep. They discovered that REM and Stage 2 NREM support a variety of
powerful sleep dependent memory processes that act to (i) enlarge the neural networks in which
memories are stored, (ii) integrate these new memories with other, older memories, into rich semantic
networks, and (iii) extract patterns and rules from large bodies of encoded information (Stickgold).
When we enter REM sleep or Stage 2 during our naps, we undergoing these processes and
consolidating memories that we will utilize in the future. Along with memory consolidation, research
has also emphasized the importance of NREM sleep including stage 2 for efficient motor
consolidation (Debarnot). Motor imagery goes along with our memories. Studies were conducted and
they showed that daytime naps helped with not only memory consolidation, but with our motor
imagery. The results proved that daytime naps helped people perform different motor skills and tasks
after following their nap. When researchers compared the data with people who had not taken a nap,
they saw that by not taking a nap, their ability to perform the same tasks was actually slowed down
compared to those that had taken a nap (Debarnot). This research

Autism Spectrum Disorder And Autism
Autism Spectrum Disorder is defined as a neurodevelopmental condition that is classified by a triad of
impairments. These impairments are in communication, socialization, and repetitive patterns of
behavior (Wolf, 2004). Autism affects about 1% of the current population (Shishido, Branko, Norio,
2013). This disorder seems like a common diagnosis in the current day in age but the disorder was
only discovered around sixty years ago. The two founding researchers that discovered the disorder are
Kanner and Asperger. Since then there has been a significant amount of research on the disorder and
they have narrowed down the criteria associated with Autism. Since the discovery of Autism Spectrum
Disorder, there has been many debates on what causes this condition. When it was, a recent discovery
scientist thought it could have been caused by many factors including psychological conditions and
poor parenting. Now research has shifted in another direction (Wolf, 2004). In recent years, there has
been a debate if childhood vaccinations or genetic mutations cause the disorder. This debate has led
many parents to stop vaccinating their children in case it does cause the disorder. In 2010 (de los
Reyes) the immunization rates fell to 80%. These parents decisions greatly effects the nation s public
health so it has fueled even more research to find the cause. A very common vaccine that has been said
to cause the disorder is the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine or the MMR vaccine. This

Hate And Love, And American Values In America
America is a driven nation in which everyone has different motivators which produce varied results in
society and the lives of the Americans. Hate and love, as well as selfishness and selflessness are the
primary motivators of individuals as they cause the most amount of passion and debate. Morals will
impact these values and cause them to change to match the situation along with the feelings of the
individual. At times, these values may contradict each other, such as hate and love or selfishness
versus selflessness, yet these contradictions are necessary for its inverse to exist. Without hate, love
would not exist. Selfless actions could not be recognized if not for selfish actions. The effect morals
have on the individual would go unobserved if there was not a range of beliefs. Although its values
can contradict one another, American values are what drives America to the success that it praises
itself for.
Hate and love are seen as antonyms when in reality the two ideas come in a pair. In order to hate, one
must have known love before for as it is impossible to hate something without caring about it in some
form. It is very easy for love to develop into hate, and vice versa. Hate will lead to exclusion and bad
choices while love will unify and bind the nation together, making it stronger. Although an individual
s or a nation s goal may be for peace, the result can be hatred if proper steps laid out in Just War
Theory are not taken. Just War Theory acknowledges that there

The Importance Of Pride In Fences By Agust Wilson
In history, a lot of great man have fallen do to pride and selfishness, In the bible it says Lucifer clearly
turned out to be so awed with his own particular excellence, knowledge, power, and position that he
started to want for himself the respect and transcendence that had a place with God alone. The
transgression that ruined Lucifer was self created pride. I used that lesson from the bible to say that
pride can lead to major life consequences. In fences by Agust Wilson we see a perfect example of that
when it comes to the main character, Troy is shown as a man who has hurt the people who are closest
to him without even realizing it. He has acted in an unsensitive and heartless way towards his
significant other, Rose, his brother, Gabriel and his children, Cory and Lyons. Toward the start of the
story, Troy feels he has made them proud. He feels this all through the story. He doesn t understand
the amount he has harmed them. In the first scene of the play his oldest son Lyons come to ask him for
10 dollars and answers no saying You ain t gonna find me going and asking nobody for nothing. I
done spent too many years without (Troy). Troy s biggest strength and weakness is that he always
looks out for his best interest and doesn t see anyone else s interest as important as his own.
Laguerre 2 Lyon is a musician by custom and thought rather then getting a regular job he d hone his
music. Lyons trusted that he would get something out of it. Troy

Examples Of Suffering In Night By Elie Wiesel
For the dead and the living we must bear witness (Elie Wiesel). In the novel Night by Elie Wiesel, it
describes the hardships people had to endure throughout World War II, and how suffering brings out
the worst in people. No one is immune to corruption brought upon them from suffering. The Jews,
including Elie, along with the Nazi officials all seem to suffer both physically and mentally. Put ting
these groups together creates a lethal combination of mental instability which shows the innate flaw in
human nature. Most notably, the jews suffering in the camps had a very big impact on many of them
throughout the war. When one of the inmate mentions: I have more faith in Hitler than in anyone else
(Wiesel 81). This signifies that although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Elie is ordered to go on a march, he and others witness a youth about his similar age being hung
for stealing food. I remember that on that evening the soup tasted better than ever (Wiesel 63). This
indicates that Elie had shown no emotion towards the event, and in turn was happy that he was able to
eat the soup, even if it was at the expense of another individual. Additionally, as Elie s father is dying
towards the end of the novel, Elie shows no empathy towards him as he is being beaten by the Nazi SS
Official. I heard his voice...yet I did not move (Wiesel xi). Elie later regrets this terrible event
however, but this just suggests how he was corrupted at that time after seeing all those people suffer
and not do anything about. It then ultimately it happened to his father, and he did not do anything
about it. Moreover, Elie is very religious at the beginning of the story, and is eager to learn more about
the Jewish religion. However, as the book progresses, he begins to lose faith in his own God. After
seeing all these terrible horrors, he exclaims, For God s sake, where is God? (Wiesel 65). This
statement clearly validates that as he watches all this abomination take place, he wonders where God

the night was When Worlds Collide. The speaker during this video was Anthony Griffith. This video
was the second most popular video on The Moth s youtube channel. During his speech, Griffith talks
about how he managed to balance his job as a comedian while his two year old daughter was dealing
with cancer. He opens with the Charles Dickens quote It was the best of times, it was the worst of

to do, so he wanted to call his parents to ask them what should he do. Suddenly, a voice from within
him told him to man up and to understand that he s not the parent going through what he s going

Theoretical Perspectives That Define Social Psychology
Introduction
Social psychology is the study of the nature and causes of human social behavior. There are five main
theoretical perspectives that define social psychology. Role, cognitive, symbolic interaction,
evolutionary, and reinforcement theory are the five theoretical perspectives that help understand
human social behavior. However, each theoretical perspective examines different approaches and play
different roles in social psychology. Some of the theories that make up social psychology take a micro
level approach and emphasize the importance of meanings, interactions, socialization and the
development of the self.
Role theory explains how individuals play roles in their daily lives. It is composed of both macro level
and micro level approaches. Unlike role theory, cognitive theory states that an individual s thinking
process influences their social behavior. Cognitive theory is a biological approach to sociology.
Symbolic interaction theory describes how social structure and social behaviors are formed through
symbols, language, and social interaction. A symbolic interaction theory is a micro level approach.
The evolutionary theory is a biological approach to sociology that not only deals with physical
evolution, but also focuses on the traits that are passed on from generation to generation to show how
it shapes their social behavior. Lastly reinforcement theory is a micro level approach that focuses on
how social behavior is influenced through the use of

Lewis And Clark Analysis
The purpose of the Lewis and Clark Journals was for them to find an all water route to the ocean but
to also document what they did and what they encountered during their voyage such as people,
animals, and plants that could help the United States.
In 1803, the great expanse of the Louisiana Purchase was an empty canvas for the United States.
Thomas Jefferson paid Meriwether Lewis to lead an expedition from the Missouri River to the
northern Pacific coast and back. From 1804 to 1806, accompanied by co captain William Clark, the
guide of Sacajawea, and thirty two men, Lewis mapped rivers, traced the waterways to the sea, and
established the American claim to the areas of Idaho, Washington, and Oregon. Together the captains

July, Lewis party confronts a few Blackfeet warriors trying to steal their horses and guns, two Indians
are killed in the scuffle that ensues. Afraid of being killed, the group flees toward their rendezvous
point with Clark at the mouth of the Yellowstone. In total, the expedition traveled roughly 8,000 miles
by boat, on foot, and on horseback.
Lewis and Clark received warm welcomes in every town they arrived in. Once reaching the nation s
capital, Lewis received payment for his courageous efforts. Along with his salary and 1,600 acres of
land, he was named governor of the Louisiana Territory. Lewis died on October 12, 1809, at an inn
near Nashville, Tennessee. He had been on his way to Washington, D.C. at the time. Most historians
believe he committed suicide while a few have contended that he was murdered. Despite his tragic
end, Lewis helped change the face of the United States by exploring uncharted territory of the

A Reflection Of Dealing In A Patient Note Writing
I came in today feeling slightly defeated from yesterday. I love Jamie s training approach, it matches
my learning style perfectly. Jamie tries to let me do more and more things on my own. One thing I ve
been struggling with is writing the patient note in a SOAP format. I believe the reason I have been
struggling is because she stands over me and feeds me what to type. When she puts me on the spot and
gives the instruction to compose the note in my own words, Jamie always corrects me and has me put
the note in her own words. This has been having an effect on my confidence level. Consequently, why
I came into today feeling defeated. I planned to say something since I was not progressing on the
patient note writing, but I wonder if Jamie picked up on the same thing. Today, Jamie stepped away
and let me think it through on my own. This worked out so much better. I still have a lot of work left
to perfect these patient notes, but at least now the notes are in my own words and I m having an easier
time listening to the patient and knowing what I need to include in their assessment, screening, and/or
discharge note. The defeated feeling quickly dissipated and I felt more confident about describing the
interactions with patients. What I learned from the situation was to say something sooner instead of
allowing my confidence to take a hit. In addition, it also taught me something about myself as a trainer
in my current job and in future positions. I get like Jamie,

unit. St. John is a regional referral teaching hospital with 772 licensed beds, a 1,200 member medical
staff and more than 50 medical and surgical specialties. It is also the largest acute care provider and a

counties of Wayne, Macomb and St. Clair Counties where over 80% of their patients reside. The total
population for this service area is 2,875,367 with slightly more males than females. Also, 61.8% of the
population is white, 28.6% is Black non Hispanic, 4.3% Hispanic, 2.5% is Asian Pacific Islander (non
Hispanic) and 2.7% are categorized as other (Taueg, C, 2012). The goal of the health system is being
committed to providing spiritually centered, holistic care, which sustains and improves the health of
individuals in the communities we serve, with special attention to the poor and vulnerable. My OB
clinical experience has been great! I have gained a lot of experience and knowledge from my clinical
professor and the nurses on the unit. I have learned so much. In the beginning I felt confident going in
and talking to my patients but not caring for them. I was not confident about reading the EFM strips or
even touching a patient in active labor due to their pain. Even at the end I still was not comfortable
dealing with patients in extreme pain I think that s a learning

Who Is Abigail A Dynamic Character In The Crucible
Throughout The Crucible, Abigail Williams is the biggest liar and manipulator in the play. Although
she is one of the worst characters in this story, she definitely is one of the most interesting ones.
Because she is such a dynamic character, there are many ways to analyze her. Abigail also makes you
change your point of view on her once the plot develops. She states that her name has no blush in the
village but there are many reasons why that is farthest from the truth. For starters, Abigal is a
pathological liar, which is one of the 10 comandments. You drank blood, Abby... You drank a charm to
kill John Proctor s wife (Miller, 1136 1137). On page 1154, Abigail tells Reverand Hale that she didn t
drink chicken blood when confronted, but soon after confesses to him that when Tituba conjured
spirits, she forced her to drink the blood. Through all of the acts, Abigail seems to lie her way through
everything just to save herself, never having shame in it, showing she is not a true Puritan woman. On
page 1131, Abigail tries to persuade Parris that when he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She threatens all the girls who danced with Tituba in the woods saying Let either of you breath a
word... I will bring a pointy reckoning that will shudder you (Miller, 1137). Quotes simillar to these
can be seen periodically in the play in order to control everyone in Abigail s path. Continuing, Abigail
is also extremely manipulative. Using God as her scapegoat, she is able to manipulate many into
thinking that she is pure and has nothing to do with the devil. I want the light of God, I want the sweet
love of Jesus! (Miller, 1156). As you can see, Abigail is a liar and manipulator which makes her a
perfect charater to analyze. Being a protagonist helped create a more dynamic and major character in
this drama. Overall, Abigail Williams can be recognized as on of the most controversial characters in

It was a full moon again, just like it had been the night I had left. I stared out the car window at the moon, holding her letter in my hand. Her words, written in the voice I knew so well, echoed in my head. ...Today, we both separate, going down different paths of life. It s weird to part after traveling the same way for so long. I glanced down at the computerized image of a blue moon set against the pitch blackness of a night sky. It seemed so lonely, so cold. This moon is for you. It s our moon, always there even when you can t see it. I gazed back up at the sky. I remember thinking how ironic it was that it was a full moon the last lunar phase before it started all over again. I wasn t sure if I wanted, if I was ready for a new moon yet. • 5. The Punk Rock Movement 1. INTRODUCTION This report uses Heding et al. s seven approaches to branding (2009) to investigate John Lydon s relevance, strengths and weaknesses as a brand. John Lydon also known as Johnny Rotten is a singer, musician and songwriter, famous for being the lead singer of the Sex Pistols (1975 1978) and of the Public Image Ltd (PiL) (1978 present). This report mainly focuses on Lydon s experience in PiL, which represents the longest part of his career compared to Sex Pistols relatively short life. Although the literature recognises that artists can produce powerful brands, the separation between art and business has partly obscured the potential developments of branding studies in the context of the cultural industries (Schroeder, 2006, 1291 1292). Considered the pioneer of the Punk Rock movement and one of the most influential and controversial musicians of all times, Lydon represents an interesting case study to offer new insights in the applicability of branding theories to artists. The main body of this report contains seven chapters, one for each of the seven approaches identified by Heding et al. (2009, 22 25): the identity approach, the personality approach, the consumer based approach, the economic approach, the relational approach, the community approach and the cultural approach. Using their model and a great variety of academic frameworks has allowed to deliver a comprehensive analysis of John Lydon s brand. The discussion section reveals the ... • 6. A Brief Note On The Conservation Of Ruins CONSERVATION OF RUINS A heritage ruin is defined as a disused and incomplete place comes in all shapes and sizes, that through abandonment, redundancy or condition, usually no longer maintained and unlikely to serves its original function or purpose other than interpretation (Australian Heritage Council, 2013). Rizzi, added the definition of ruin from architectural point of view: A building which having lost a substantial part of its architectural form has ceased to function as such. Elementary, but full of implications: a building that has lost its natural defences (roof, windows, plasters, etc), unarmed against the ravages of atmospheric agents and consequently more vulnerable to the destructive effect of time; A building that has stopped to fulfill its functions, to shelter human activities and which, in a sense, has begun its journey towards progressive decline and final disappearance . (Rizzi 2007, p.xx). Although the term ruins implies the abandoned condition of the building materials, this condition does not resemble the loss of heritage values embedded to it (Australian Heritage Council, 2013). For this reason, it is obvious that heritage ruins are equally as important as any other historic building survived. It is the evidence of past human activity; a shared resources that retain important heritage values, and potentially possess tangible and intangible heritage attributes (Drury and McPherson 2008, Australian Heritage Council 2013). Than, using dissection tools, the skin and fatty and connective tissues are removed to prepare the individual anatomical structures. The second step, removal of body fat and water, is a process which water and soluble fats are dissolved from the body by placing it into a solvent bath (which is basically called an acetone bath.) • 9. The Demise Of The Qing Dynasty Many people argued that Empress Dowager Cixi accelerated the speed of the demise of the Qing dynasty. Cixi might be a blasting fuse but she was not accounted for the final fall of the dynasty. The actions Cixi took had profoundly changed the foundation of feudal China so as to push China forward into a modern stage. Although many historical data suggested that whatever Cixi had done were to consolidate her authority and personal status. But no matter what, the impact on the country was obvious. Cixi broke the previous traditions from Confucianism that had been lasted for centuries. Tensions between the Manchus and Han Chinese had been greatly improved, which made a great contribution to China for later unification. Under the reign of the Empress Dowager, the social structure had undergone a series of changes. Qing s demise is doomed, this was resulted from issues that had stacked up from previous generations. Moreover, Cixi did her best to secure China s status in the world in such a chaotic period in history. She made undeniable contributions to China. Confucianism is a traditional ideology that has already penetrated into every Chinese head. Its main principle is to follow the past, changes and new technologies or new objects are not necessary. • 11. Classical Conditioning Vs Observational Learning From an early age, it is drilled into our heads: Restlessness, distraction, and ignorance are the enemies of success. We re told that learning is all self discipline, that we must confine ourselves to designated study areas, turn off the music, and maintain a strict ritual if we want to ace that test, memorize that presentation, and create writing assignment. There are three major methods of learning. Which are classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and observational learning. Classical conditioning theory involves learning a new behavior via the process of association. In simple terms, two stimuli are linked together to produce a new learned response in a person or animal. There are three stages of classical conditioning stage 1: Before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This method is better in a way that by observing others, we can quickly gain knowledge about which behaviors are likely to lead to good outcomes. What I remember from my childhood is that everything I learned was by watching everyone else. For example every time my mom would want to teach me something knew she would demonstrate it to me. I learned a lot by seeing what others did. When my aunt started to cook I loved watching her cook to see how she made the food. Now that I became older I know how to cook by just watching my aunt cook when I was younger. I also learned how to ride the bike because my mom thought me how to ride it with demonstrations. I believe most of the people in this world learn by observing others. Is an easier way to learn and is not too complicated. Just like the saying monkey see, monkey do . When people see other people doing something they want to do it as well I believe is just a human instinct we have developed with time. Till this day I learn better with demonstrations r ... White people and black people kept fighting. Racism was a very big problem. White people killed lots of black people for no reason. Even after KKK, white people kept causing problems and killing black people. One of the examples is the Elaine Race Riot. This bloody riot started in September 30, 1919 in Phillips County s Elaine Town in Arkansas. In this essay, I am going to write about this riot and its details. The Elaine Riot was one of the biggest conflict between white people and black people in the United States history. A shooting incident started the riot. It happened at a meeting of the Progressive Farmers and Household Union of America and it led white people to start a riot against black people in Elaine town in Phillips County, Arkansas and surrounding areas. • 13. The Anxiety Of Lithium Chloride Causes Mild Illness Introduction Animals can be conditioned to display or not display a variety of behaviors and emotions, including taste preference. This form of conditioning has even been successfully done in humans by using rotation induced motion sickness after consuming either a familiar or unfamiliar flavored beverage to create a distaste for the beverage (especially the unfamiliar flavored one) (Arwas, Rolnick, Lubow, 1989). A very common way to teach rats to dislike a certain taste is to give them injection(s) of lithium chloride (LiCl) directly after consuming a taste stimulus. The lithium chloride causes mild illness, which the rats connect to the taste stimulus, essentially because they believe the food/drink they consumed caused the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For best results, LiCl should be measured as an absolute quantity, not as a volume or concentration (Nachman Ashe 1973). These studies (among others) show that LiCl is an effective unconditioned stimulus for taste aversion when administered in correct dosages. Though many studies have observed the effects of taste aversion, fewer studies have focused on the influence of feeding on this conditioned aversion. In essence, conditioning is a form of learning, and learning requires memory. One study used the pond snail Lymnaea to show that food deprivation lowers blood glucose levels and levels of insulin circulating; therefore, it decreases the animal s ability to remember the pairing of taste stimulus and the noxious stimulus (Mita Koichi 2014). This study manipulates the preference for sucrose by administering lithium chloride (LiCl) to the rats after consumption of sucrose. The researchers sought to determine whether rats given access to free feeding would display more or less taste aversion than rats who were deprived of food after the LiCl injection. Methods Materials This study used eight adult male Long Evans rats of average size. Rats were housed separately, each in his own cage on a nocturnal light dark cycle (lights off at 7:00 AM, lights on at 7:00 PM). Each rat was given 1 hour of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Spinal Cord Injury ( Sci ) Introduction Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) can result in loss or permanent damage of motor, sensory or autonomic function, generally caused by physical trauma to the spinal cord. In humans the most common type of SCI is hemisection or contusion (Nandoe Tewarie et al. 2009). This incomplete injury, leads to swelling or compression of the spinal cord due to bone displacement, resulting in partial loss of function and/or sensation. Complete severing of the spinal cord fibres can occur, although less often, and results in impairment of all function and sensation below the trauma site (Sobani et al. 2010). Due to the complicated physiology of the spinal cord and central nervous system, and their diminished regenerative properties, currently, there have been no effective forms of treatment of SCI. SCI occurs in two stages. The primary stage being the physical injury itself causing damage to the spinal cord, resulting in bruising, a possible demyelination of axons, cell apoptosis as well as subsequent hemorrhaging at the injury site (Inukai et al. 2009). The secondary stage involves exacerbation of the damage via initiation of the body s inflammatory response. Immediately following injury, pro inflammatory cytokines; interleukin beta (IL β) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) are released from both neighboring and damaged cells, resulting in an up regulation of the inflammatory response, resulting in cyst formation. These cysts are left behind post inflammation and hamper recovery ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It has been shown that despite the immensely different beliefs that are held by the Buddhist and Catholic traditions, there is a surprisingly large amount of common ground in the realm of practice. • 16. American Prisons And Justice System One simple question asked by many familiar with the American prison system is Is it Effective? The word effectiveness can take on many meanings such as cost effective or effective in reducing recidivism. Recidivism, according to Merriam Webster dictionary, is the tendency to relapse into a previous condition or mode of behavior; especially: relapse into criminal behavior . In the United States, the time of relapse into criminal behavior has been measured by as much as 8 years by the Bureau of Justice. It is the belief of many professionals and experts that American prisons are both cost ineffective, and ineffective in reducing recidivism rates. The focus of American prisons and justice system is primarily to punish the criminal. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This may be a bleak revelation and to many it would not be considered a surprising statistic. But, there is a flip side. The flip side is that 23.4% of ex offenders reformed themselves. Lumping lawbreakers into a correctional facility won t help all of them, but it will rehabilitate some of them a lot (Bozelko, Chandra 2017). Nearly a quarter of inmates discharged from prison were reformed. This is taking into account the lack of rehabilitation and education programs, living conditions, and safety provided in current private or state prison facilities. So without directly and purposely focusing on improving inmates so when released into society, they are a productive member of the working class, a respectable twenty five percent are changed for the better. These results are arguably satisfactory because of the annual cost to the taxpayer but nonetheless, they prove that inmates can indeed change for the better. We can begin to examine if the cost outweigh the benefits or results given the recidivism rate. Given the recidivism statistics, we can examine the current American conditions in prison facilities that produce these results. Many Americans are aware of the living conditions, crime, and lack of treatment and security in current prison. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. The Effects Of Gambling Addiction On The Brain Shen, Glombiewski, 2013). Biological Factors Addictions are known to activate the culmination of sites in the brain that make up the reward centre which is responsible for feeling happiness or pleasure through the release of dopamine (Linden, 2011). After repeated exposures, receptors in the brain build a tolerance towards the addiction meaning that there is a need for increased stimulation to provide a similar high . Eventually behaviour patterns develop so as to avoid withdrawal. At this point addiction is occurring and symptoms should be observable. Like other addictions, it is believed that IAD causes a release of dopamine in the nucleus accumbens (Ko et al., 2009). It must then be discussed why certain behaviours or substances activate the reward centre resulting in addiction. It has been agreed that, much similar to gambling addiction, Internet addiction functions through a variable ratio reinforcement schedule (Young, 2011). However, it is also is theorised that those who use the Internet or other similar technologies experience various rewards that are unpredictable in nature, depending on the application they are using (such as: video games, emails, social media, pornography, message boards and texting). The trends that are periodic increase or decrease as they go up or down the group or period. The quasi trends have regular and irregular trends which in one group it could increase or decrease and have a another group that has an irregular trend that in a group can increase and decrease. In the first place, high specific heat, electronegativity, and atomic mass are both periodic trends because no matter if go down or up a group or period the numbers will show a trend. The atomic mass is the weight of the atom in mass. Electronegativity is when two atom share electrons and high specific heat is an amount of heat needed to change the temperature of one gram of a substance.
