Nelson Mandela Ethos
The speech I am analyzing is Nelson Mandela s speech, Apartheid has no future. In his speech given
on February 11, 1990, Mandela thanks all those that stood with him while he was imprisoned. He also
stresses there should be more of an effort to completely abolish apartheid. Mandela uses several
rhetorical devices to build a strong speech. Nelson Mandela s speech Apartheid has no future is
persuasive based on its use of ethos, logos, and pathos. 1 1 1 1 1 1 1
Ethos is built through Mandela s character. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned in 1964 for treason,
stemming from his activities with the banned African National Congress (ANC) (Sawinski). When he
was twenty four years old Mandela joined the national African Congress. The ANC fought for civil
rights for black South Africans. During his time in the ANC Mandela was a part of a peaceful protest.
Later a new organization formed called the Congress Youth League, which was a departure or the
ANC and its traditional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second half of Mandela s speech outlines the goals and strategies that the ANC use in order to
normalize free political activity. Mandela also suggests ways to become better. He suggests an ending
to the state of emergency and freedom for all political prisoners. I reiterate our call for inter alia the
immediate ending of the state of emergency and the freeing of all, and not only some, political
prisoners (Mandela) This statement is an example of logos because these are realistic goals/ requests
that can be accomplished. Another objective Mandela states are the negotiations of the dismantling of
apartheid. Negotiations on the dismantling of apartheid will have to address the overwhelming
demand of our people for a democratic nonracial and unitary South Africa (Mandela). In this
statement, Mandela states what dismantling apartheid will do and it would address the demand for a
democratic nonracial and unitary South Africa. 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 11 1 1

Early Junior Year Research Paper
Early junior year was a very rough time for me when it comes to the gradebook. The first semester of
the 2016 2017 year I ended up with two F s, two D s, a B+ and a C , which was very, very bad. I
realized this was not what I was capable of and it was not anywhere near my best work. My parents
were disappointed with my actions. It was instilled in me at a young age by my parents that school
ALWAYS comes first. My theater director who taught me all throughout high school was disappointed
in me, and my soccer coach was disappointed in me.
As my dad looked at my grades for the first time his face was overcome with the purest form of
disbelief and frustration and from that moment I know it was over. He pulled me from the Fall musical
and the soccer team that day. This immediately made me realize that my actions had consequences,
and in this case, big ones. I was enrolled in dual credit classes at IVY Tech. We could go there and the
high school would pay for it if we made above a C in the classes. I did not make above a ... Show

I have always known what I m capable of in any aspect of my life. Especially in the classroom, and
this was not it. For the second half of my junior year my grades got to where they had never been
before. I realized I easily could have messed up my future by doing what I did and performing so
poorly in the classroom. Now, here I am senior year and my grades have stayed where they were when
I left off junior year and in some aspects, gotten a little bit better. I was given a second chance and I
am back at Ivy Tech. This experience taught me that when you are handed a certain amount of
responsibility that you have never had before, you shouldn t waste it. You should take advantage of it
and that is what I am trying my best to do. It s taught me to make the most of what you have been
given because as easily as it was given to you, and can just as easily be taken away before you know

Ambler Real House Scandal
Facts:
This is a dispute over zoning ordinance and whether it is infringing on the rights of property owners.
The Village of Euclid (Euclid) is a municipal corporation in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. It is 12 14
square acres, most of which is farmland and unimproved acreage. Ambler Realty Co. (Ambler) owns
68 acres of land in the westerly edge of the village. A zoning ordinance was adopted by the Village of
Euclid on November 13, 1922 which divided the village into multiple districts and specified exactly
what type of buildings were to be built in each district, specifically the use of buildings and their
height and FAR. Ambler s land spanned multiple districts of land and so Ambler s ability to construct
buildings on its land was severely limited, per the zoning ordinance. Ambler claims that this restriction
has reduced the market value of their land from $10,000 to $2,500 per acre. ... Show more content on

Ambler goes on to say that the government took the value of their land and they were not paid for this
taking. The argument defending the ordinance says that since Ambler stills holds the title to the land
that this does not constitute as a taking of their land even though their land value may depreciate or
have restrictions placed on it since their land is still under their

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bio Warfare
1. INTRODUCTION Disasters are sudden, unpredictable, calamitous event, bringing great damage
and devastation to life and property. Disasters can be Natural like earth quake, land slide, tsunami,
cyclones, flood or drought and major accidents. It can also be man made like war and terrorism, both
in war and terrorism chemical, biological or radiological agent can be used. In any of these situations,
significant social, environmental and economical impact would occur. Casualties following disasters,
and major accidents could escalate very rapidly if necessary preventive methods are not followed.
Infectious disease disasters consist of biological attack, emerging infectious disease outbreaks, and
pandemics. There are a broad range of potential biological agents, including bacteria, viruses, and
toxins (of microbial, plant, or animal origin) used as bio warfare or bioterrorism. Bio warfare has the
potential to result in high morbidity and mortality, because aerosolized biological agents can infect or

Explain Why College Athletes Need To Change
The Treatment Of College Athletes Need To Change
The NCAA needs to protect the overall well being of the athletes because they are the bread and butter
of the school and NCAA s income. The NCAA needs to start paying the athletes, allow the athletes to
receive money from an outside source, provide a stable living environment for athletes who qualify,
provide the proper nutrients the athletes need in order to excel on the field, and the NCAA needs to
ban colleges from pulling the athletes scholarship after an injury. The athletes can t get decent jobs due
to their overload schedule, and the food proportion the athletes receive isn t nearly enough for their
bodies to be healthy and run properly. Many student athletes don t come from the best backgrounds,
which means financial support from the families aren t always there. Student Athletes attend big
colleges to get an education while playing a sport they enjoy. Regular college students have the
opportunity to get a job that pays decent because they have much more time on their hands, and
sometimes that isn t enough. Now imagine how hard it is for athletes who have to ... Show more

Without the athletes, they wouldn t be able to provide paychecks for the professors, they wouldn t be
able too provide top notch technology for their students, and colleges wouldn t differentiate from other
colleges. Alabama is one of the top tier colleges for athletes, and without athletics, who would want to
travel to the middle of Alabama just to attend school without the college sport atmosphere? When
people think about college, they think about that last second win against their rival school. The college
atmosphere is based of the competitive emotion on the field, and for not so gifted humans to cheer on
the athletes. Professional athletes bring fourth the same attributes and they get lumps of cash, while
bringing in less revenue than college

Analysis Of Thomas Middleton s The Crucible
Analytical Research Paper
Thomas Middleton s, Women Beware Women and Arthur Miller s The Crucible, are both set in the
1600s a time when women did not have any rights. Although both stories are completely different
from each other, they share a common trait of bold, powerful women. In The Crucible, Abigail s
jealousy and desire to have revenge on Elizabeth Proctor has her manipulate everyone in the town of
Salem causing hysteria. Livia, the widow in Women Beware Women strategically manipulates every
person to turn their backs on each other which creates a tragedy. Abigail and Livia are the villains in
their community but how they acquire their power is very different. While Abigail s power comes
from her intense desire for revenge on a specific person and then spreads throughout the community,
Livia s motivation for power originates from her own boredom and desire for control on a large scale.
Both of these characters are nothing short of cynical. They are motivated by self interest and cannot be
trusted. Livia, is the sister to Hippolito and Fabritio and the aunt to Isabella. She is a wealthy woman
on her own but her life went down hill after losing two husbands. There is no question that she is the
essence of evil in Women Beware Women because she wants other people to be miserable as she once
was. In The Psychological Drama of Women Beware Women written by Charles A. Hallett, he says,
Cynicism is, in a sense, a mechanism developed by the unimaginative designed

Arguments Against Scottish Independence
Scottish Independence
Scottland has been a part of the UK since 1707 after James VII was deposed in 1688 England feared
that Scottland would go its own way which led to a formal union of the two kingdoms. And now in
September 2014 there was a public poll if there should have been a Scottish Independence. The poll
failed with 55% No voters voting against a Scottish Independence.
I am going to be looking at some pros and cons of an Scottish Independence.
A very popular argument for Scottish Independence is that the Scotland would have a much stronger
economy. Scotland owns a huge shares in oil. And if they became independent they wouldn t need to
share the income.
And it would help to build its economic independence.
Many laws which are enforced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Minumum wages would be raised, The current minumum wage in The UK is £6.50 an hour and it
would be raised. Over 150000 people would would benefit from this raise. Experts recommend the
minimum wage to be £7.65 an hour, this raise would be in line with inflation. If there would be an
Scottish Independence there would also be some cons.
As of now the UK is a very powerful, rich and influential state. Becoming independent would
significantly decrease Scotland s global presence and influence.
Scotland s membership of the EU is not clear. Experts and politicians have disagreed on whether or
not Scotland s status as an EU member state could be estalished.
Theres discussion how Scotland will survive without access to the British money pot . Many people
say that going independent is an extremely large economc gamble, especialy in times recession and
rising unemployment.
UK have some very large debts to foreign countries, which Scotland is partly responsible for.
Becoming independent they have to negotiate which debts they should pay off. They have so many
ties with the rest of UK that this could be a very tedious process that could take several

Budget Planning And Control Management
Budget Planning and Control
According to our text a budget is a formal written statement of management s plans for a specified
future time period, expressed in financial terms (Wiley, 2013). An effective budget gives a company
command and control over financial resources. It helps a company to plan and achieve their strategic
and organizational goals. There are many reasons for a company to prepare and manage a budget, such
as assisting with performance evaluations and identifying possible constraints and limitations.
The budget is an important basis for evaluating performance. It can provide benchmarks against which
to judge success or failure in reaching goals and facilitates timely corrective measures (Bragg, 2010).
Budgeting forms the baseline for a company s future performance. Managers create the budget
anticipating financial conditions and market expectations for future periods. These managers calculate
revenues and expenses for the period being budgeted. When the period reflected in the budget arrives,
the managers compare actual expenses to the budget numbers and evaluate the department s
performance (Bragg, 2010).
Another advantage of budgets is that they can be instrumental in identifying constraints and
bottlenecks. The earlier example of the power plant well illustrated this point. Efficient operation of
the power plant was limited by the supply of

Public Outcry For Reform And Government Intervention
Power: The Growing Discourse in America
America was built upon the belief that Power and Wealth lead to success in society. The distribution of
power in the United States, specifically its centralization, is a topic of major debate do to public outcry
for reform and government intervention. In regards to social, political, or economic subjects, change is
not only profoundly desired, but also greatly needed.
Social conflicts in society are about as often as seeing a leave in a dense forest. The debate about
power, however, is interesting because it is not only a reoccurring issues in America, but also leads to
debates about other subjects. One of these subjects is gun control. The argument is whether or not the

An example from modern entertainment that supports the argument against the centralization of power
is the movie, The Wolf of Wall Street by Martin Scorsese. This movie explores the life of Jordan
Belfort, a stock broker in New York whose life falls into a collapse due to his immense wealth and
power. This connects to the argument against centralized power because it illustrates through the
media of film how centralized power can lead to corruption of a person s morals and well being.
Power, in this case, ultimately resulted in the collapse of everything in Belfort s social life.
Along with the social aspects of life here in America, politics are also affected by corruption due to the
concentration of power. Famous rapper and notorious celebrity, Kanye West, dedicated a song to the
subject of power and its negative effect on the world of politics, properly named Power . West states,
...the abomination of Obama s nation... to reference the corruption of politics in America. This
connects to the argument against the concentration of power by alluding to the fact that once Barack
Obama became president, his power led to America being put into a state of pure disgust. Whether or

Commander s Intent
The commander s intent is a critical part of mission command. The commander, through the
commander s intent, must blend the art of command and the science of control that integrates all joint
warfighting functions. ADM Wesley McDonald, Commander US Atlantic Command (LANTCOM),
failed to convey the commander s intent to the joint force for Operation Urgent Fury. This failure
promoted misunderstanding and mutual trust issues among the joint force that affected the integration
of joint functions such as intelligence and sustainment.

When planning for joint operations, Commanders must include all services and multinational partners
to promote understanding. A joint force that understands the capabilities and limitations among the
force builds trust across the force. LANTCOM command did not foster a climate of mutual trust
during Operation Urgent Fury. Trust is essential element during operations. Senior leader must trust
the abilities of subordinates and subordinates must have trust in senior leaders. The lack of mutual
trust began at the senior level of military command and continued during the execution of Operation
Urgent Fury. The JCS rejected LANCOM s attempts to blend ground forces and established boundary
lines between ground forces. Additionally, subordinate commanders did not trust the LANTCOM.
During the initial ground operations, a brigade of the 82nd Airborne Division came under attack.
Instead of requesting reinforcements through joint operation channels, the request for reinforcement
went directly to the 82nd Airborne Division rear staff. Mutual trust is difficult to build during
operations. US armed forces must seek every opportunity to conduct joint training exercises to build
mutual trust before operations. Joint exercises develop habitual relationships among the services and
promote mutual trust. The lack of mutual trust not only affects command and control but other joint
function such as intelligence. LANTCOM failed to coordinate and

First Civilizations Influence On Egyptian Civilization
#12 Egyptian civilization, like other First Civilizations, did not develop by itself; many different
pastoral groups or civilizations influenced Egyptian civilization through trading goods and culture,
and helped Egyptians to develop its own unique culture. Being one of the greatest civilizations,
Mesopotamia, located between Euphrates and Tigris river, influenced Egypt civilization greatly, as
they were close in location. Because they could interact easily with each other, trading flourished, and
many goods and cultural insights were exchanged. Wheat and barley, which were the main food
source of Egyptians, were brought from Mesopotamia, which means that they had maintained the
mutual relationship between them, as well as helping Egyptian

How Did The Tanzimat Influence Arab Elites
Furthermore, when the Tanzimat came in the 18th century to reform the administration and
bureaucracy of the empire among other things, many of its policies managed to further include Arab
elites within the Ottoman system in several provinces, while attempting to reduce the decentralized
nature of Ottoman control over Arab provinces. The system of iltizam has been long gone by this time,
yet the power and influence of Arab elites did not disappear with it. The tanzimat, which granted
Arabs citizenship rights brought mutual support from some Arab elites to the empire and vise versa as
the elites detached themselves from those who called for further decentralization, and the Ottomans
allowed Arabs to be part of the empire s administration, while the majority of Arab elites opposed it.

differences between two different countries. A Capital is usually the biggest city in a country. I have

United States and Saudi Arabia. we can compare and contrast both cities in terms of food, weather,
and festivals.

Essay About Manila Metropolitan Theatre
History
What is the reason behind the closing of Manila Metropolitan Theatre? What are the details about the
restoration of the Metropolitan Theatre? Why is MET considered as a cultural heritage? Those are the
questions our group is trying to answer through this essay. As our group is doing the research about
the Manila Metropolitan Theatre, we found the answers in our questions. The Metropolitan Theatre
was considered to be the Grand Dame of Manila and also as the crown jewel of the theatres in Manila.
The person behind the unique design of the theatre was Arch. Juan Arellano. The MET was officially

Evil nationalism in total war
During 1914, the entire Europe was a powder keg filled not with gunpowder, but pride. Finally, it blew
up with the assassination of the Austrian archduke Franz Ferdinand in the 28th of June. While Franz
Ferdinand was on his way to examine Serbia, he was assassinated by the Serbian nationalist
(Sowards). In response to this action, Austrian angrily announced an ultimatum to Serbia, which
strictly demanded Serbia to end all anti Austrian agitation and punish any Serbian official whoever

economy, which after the war Britain was suffering for restoring economy and repair war damaged.
Although nationalism is the major causes for the beginning of the World War I, some people think that
nationalism has no connection to it. Many people think that the start of World War I is causes by
Austria wanting to take revenge on the Serbian and therefore send massive troops to the front line a

The Woman s Body
In the painting, a young, life sized woman is seen dressed in a very classy manner inside of a bedroom
in a palace. The top of her dress seems to be falling off of her breasts and shoulder a bit, and her right
leg is exposed. Sshe is bending backwards, and her facial expression seems to be full of shock,
disgust, anger, and fear, as if something horrific had just happened to her. Her right arm is raised,
almost as if she is surrendering and saying don t hurt me or I didn t ask for this . In the lower left area
of the portrait, there are two important items in which her face is pointed towards: broken eggs on a
silver platter and a dagger, which represent lost virginity and self harm, respectively (DAI). The
motion of the woman s body, her facial expression and clothes she is wearing, and the iconographic
items in the painting reveal that she is Lucretia, the woman who was raped. According to the didactic,
Lucretia was the wife of a Roman noble, and was raped by Sextus, the son of Tarquin, who was the
king of Rome. Tarquin s nephew, Brutus, led the rebellion against the king, which eventually led to his
banishment. After she was raped, Lucretia told the incident to her brother and father and probably
because of how guilty she felt stabbed herself with the dagger that Sextus used to threaten her with.
Interestingly, the dagger in the painting is not bloody and Sextus is not present, although this appeared
to have happened right after the rape. Therefore, it makes sense

What Shaped America s Identity
America s identity was shaped a lot in the late 1800 s and early 1900 s;the writing of the Monroe
Doctrine, the interest in foreign affairs, and the Great Depression are all huge factors in that, and
America has adjusted greatly because of that. There were many other things, such as the overall 1920
s, that shaped America s identity as well. The Monroe Doctrine stopped interference between America
and European powers. It caused America to break away from Britain and become more independent.
People believed that it would be best if America seperated it s ties with Britain, as that would help the
country. America s ideals started to change, and the identity was shaped with it. That claim is proven

Education Reform Across The World
As with most things in society, there is never one right way to approach an issue, and education
reform across the world is one of the many examples that prove this to be true. Over time, there has
been a growing importance on the quality of education across the globe, which is measured through
standardized testing. This new way to measure the quality of education students are getting has grown
to create high competition among the countries as each strives to obtain the highest ranking country
title. However, not all countries are able to compete, let alone test at all, as they are much less
economically stable and usually have a very poor education system in place. While students in the
United States or China are spending many sleepless nights preparing for one of their many
examinations, children in Ghana or Brazil are struggling to merely find a way to both get an education
and help to support their family. The countries that are a part of the developing world are all very
diverse, however many share similar defining characteristics and face similar problems in their
education system. These nations are typically those that were colonized by western nations and now
suffer extreme economic polarization and political instability as a result. Their economies are often
based on agriculture and the extraction of natural resources, which causes problems as they are
exporting goods of a lower value and importing goods of a higher value. Since all of their focus is on

Forth Amendment Essay
The Forth Amendment of the Constitution provides protection to citizens from unreasonable
government intrusion, particularly in one s home. It is an important feature of what makes the United
States a democratic nation. David Grey and Danielle Citron in the article The Right to Quantitative
Privacy discuss the challenges of modern surveillance technologies as they relate to Forth Amendment
rights (2013). Grey and Citron assert that: The Fourth Amendment requires is a set of policies and
practices that limit the discretion of law enforcement, provide for meaningful judicial review, and
effect a reasonable accommodation of both the legitimate interests of law enforcement in preventing,
detecting, and prosecuting crime, and the privacy interests of citizens subject to surveillance (2013,

Forth Amendment rights. Police can plan their presence patrols for the best effect based on data

Too Big to Fail Essay
Too big to fail?
In this essay I will be addressing the Too Big To Fail (TBTF) problem in the current banking system. I
will be discussing the risks associated with this policy, and the real problems behind it. I will then
examine some solutions that have been proposed to solve the too big to fail problem. The policy too
big to fail refers to the idea that a bank has become so large that its failure could cause a disastrous
effect to the rest of the economy, and so the government will provide assistance, in the form of
perhaps a bailout/oversee a merger, to prevent this from happening. This is to protect the creditors and
allow the bank to continue operating. If a bank does fail then this could cause a domino effect

Systemic Risk is the risk of the collapse of the entire financial system, Kay (2008) defined it as the
tendency for the failure of a financial services business to have an impact on many other businesses. [

will minimize systemic risk and it will level the playing field for firms who do not have the same
guarantee of financial support as TBTF firms do.

Humbert s Lolita
As the coalescence of realist and romantic narrative transforms Humbert s account of Lolita into an
unidentifiable genre, Humbert s morbid love for the Dolores is immortalized forever because Humbert
injects [his] image [of Lolita] (Rutledge 47) with the same powerful emotions [he] feels for [her] (47)
in his account. Furthermore, while Humbert concedes that the reader may jeer at [him], and threaten to
clear the court (Nabokov 278), he still insists the world know how much [he] loved [his] Lolita (278).
By injecting a sufficient degree of love (Rutledge 47) into the real and romantic depiction of Lolita,
Humbert has become a poet (47) because he is able to express a form of love (47) that transcends

As Nabokov depicts a character that tells a story that utilizes realism and romanticism that elicits a
sympathetic response from the readers, Humbert does not fall entirely under the designation of a truly
villainous character, but rather an antihero. However, as the aforementioned arguments demonstrate
that Humbert s evocative and provocative language depicts Dolores as a nymph, this indicates that
Humbert s image of Dolores is a distorted image plagued by his romantic fantasies. While these
romantic notions fundamentally allow Humbert to justify his actions to readers because it depicts him
as an upholder of the law, incriminates Lolita and transforms his pursuit of Lolita into an immortalized
account of romantic love, it does not allow Humbert to emerge from the novel unscathed. Instead,
Humbert s fusion of realism and romanticism denotes him as an antihero because he is a controversial
character, yet one that readers sympathize with in Nabokov s novel. Consequently, this sympathy that
Humbert attains from the readers allows him to subversively critique the American national identity
because it paradoxically commodifies youth and beauty provocatively, yet also assigns stereotypical
morals and ideas

Religious Tolerance In The American Colonies
Religious Tolerance
In the year 1776, the American Colonies drafted the Declaration of Independence. This document
symbolized freedom from Great Britain. According to Essentials of American Government Roots and
Reform, Englishmen and other Europeans left home seeking to enhance their fortunes. With them
came a host of laborers who hoped to find their own opportunities for riches [in the American
colonies] (O Connor, Sabato, and Yanus 6). As the colonies grew in size and stability, an influx of
Englishmen came to America for a variety of incentives. Two of these incentives would include:
recognition for accomplished goals and religious freedom. The desire of religious freedom led to the

This argument is based on information found on oyez.org. In 1963 a federal program, Higher
Education Facilities, created grants for educational institutions. These institutions were sponsored by
local churches. The grant specifically said the new buildings could have no religious associations for
twenty years. After the twenty year period, the building could be used for any purpose the church
needed it to. The grant attempted to neutralize the moral background that may influence the college
students in the new building. In 1970 a law suit was filed. The sponsors believed if they were
sponsoring these educational institutions, they should be able to use the building for religious reasons.
In 1971 the court decided the twenty year wait for the building to be able to be used for any
recreational purpose was unconstitutional. The court argued grants are considered federal aid;
therefore, the federal government has no right to intervene with religious purpose. The first
amendment claims the federal government cannot deny anyone of practicing religion anywhere
including in a granted building. The court also said since the money was not used to fund religious
activity the building was like any other building. The court believed college students would be able to
decide with their own opinions on rather to attend these church services. The services were not

Why Did Joseph Stalin Win World War 2
By 1943, the tides had turned for the Germans. They thought they could win the war, but the Battle of
Stalingrad left them defeated and they lost many men. The campaign of North Africa and the Battles
of El Alamein ended in May 1943, with the Allied forces dominating the Mediterranean. The Big
Three Joseph Stalin, Franklin D. Roosevelt, the United States president, and Winston Churchill,
Britain s Prime Minister held a conference in Tehran, Iran in November of 1943. They mainly wanted
to focus on winning the war, and Stalin suggested opening up a second front, instead of just following
Churchill s plan of going through the soft underbelly of Italy. This is where plans of D Day began

Frameworks In Greenwashing
Businesses are facing increasing pressures from both internal and external stakeholders to be
accountable and transparent, and to disclose the social, environmental and economic impacts of their
activities through sustainability reporting (Klettner, Clarke Boersma 2014; Soderstrom 2013).
Accordingly, there has been an increase in organisations claiming their voluntary commitment to the
international standards and frameworks for corporate sustainability namely, the United Nations Global
Compact (UNGC) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) s sustainability reporting guidelines
(Klettner, Clarke Boersma 2014; Milne Gray 2013). According to Benn, Dunphy Griffiths (2014)

This is not to say that frameworks such as the GRI do not endorse improvements in business reporting
and accountability (Milne Gray 2013). Rather, it is the fact that the adoption of these frameworks
solely relies on the voluntary commitment by businesses that reduces its effectiveness (Klettner,
Clarke Boersma 2014; Milne Gray 2013). This same issue also extends to companies codes of conduct
and certification schemes.
Elsewhere, the introduction of the new IR framework by the IIRC (International Integrated Reporting
Council) has been suggested to be a paradigm shift in the way corporations report their activities to
stakeholders (Klettner, Clarke Boersma 2014; Soderstrom 2013). Until now, business reports primarily
focused on TBL (Triple Bottom Line) reporting of economic, social and environmental impacts
(Adams 2013). While some corporations have demonstrated a willingness to achieve higher standards
of performance in corporate sustainability in line with international frameworks (such as the GRI),
rarely do they produce reports which provide information on social and environmental issues to the
same extent and quality as that of financial information (Boersma 2013;

Several methods of expanding a company exist. The Baderman Island resort is looking into different
options to expand their operations. This paper will explore the subject of the three main options;
acquiring another organization in the same industry, going public through an Initial Public Offering
(IPO), and merging with another organization. Additionally, it will provide analysis of the strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) of each option. Finally, it will provide a
recommendation regarding which would be the best option for Baderman Island Resort to use to

A SWOT analysis of using a merger to expand operations follows. A strength from performing a
merger is the ability to acquire a company s unused debt. Some firms simply do not exhaust their debt
capacity. If a firm with unused debt capacity is acquired, the new management can then increase debt
financing, and reap the tax benefits associated with the increased leverage (Keown, 2005, pp. 23 4).
Another strength is enabling Baderman Island to remove an ineffective management strategy or team.
Baderman Island has the option to decide who stays with the merged company, and who is out the
door. Often times, a weak management leading team is the problem the organization has not evaluated
for its mediocre success. The merger of two firms can result in an increase in market or monopoly
power. Although this can result in increased wealth, it may also be illegal. The Clayton Act, as
amended by the Celler Kefauver Amendment of 1950, makes any merger illegal that results in a
monopoly or substantially reduces competition. The Justice Department and the Federal Trade
Commission monitor all mergers to ensure that they do not result in a reduction of competition
(Keown, 2005, pp. 23 4).
Weaknesses of a merger for Baderman Island are the many distractions that rise to the surface.
Employees may show concern with the future of his or her employment, rather than concentrating on
the job at hand, thus causing lower production and quality control.

Summary In this article, the authors discuss nurses preparedness to identify and provide nursing care
to women exposed to intimate partner violence. This was a quantitative experimental study that
involved a questionnaire that measured nurses preparedness when encountering with women exposed
to IPV. The questionnaire was designed to identify them as the nurse and the interventions the nurses
would provide to the women. Of 174 primary health care centers, 40 were randomly selected to
participate in the study, and only one declined to participate. The nurses in each PHCC were contacted
by telephone and received verbal and written information about the study. The data was analyzed
using statistical software, STATA, and Pearson s chi square test was used to test the statistical
significance of the findings. Questionnaires were distributed to 277 nurses and the response rate was

the last months of the remaining Libson girls lives. Just as we had begun to despair of ever being near

Vietnam Essay
Prior to the start of our study of the Vietnam Era, I thought that I knew quite a bit about the Vietnam
War and the overall time period. But after listening to some guest speakers and reading Tim O Brien s
The Things They Carried, I discovered that I knew hardly anything, and that most of what I did know
was pretty much insignificant. These past weeks were not only extremely educating, but it was also
very interesting. I learned more than I ever thought I would, mostly through the people that know it
best, those who lived through it.
The most important thing I learned about Vietnam and the time period in which it took place, is that it
was so confusing. It seems as if nobody really knew what was going on or ... Show more content on

Soldiers were always looking for something to hang on to. They had to forget about their families and
the world they left behind into order to survive. In a place they knew absolutely nothing about, they
were so scared. They were scared of what they saw, but also of what they couldn t see, which was
usually the scariest thing of all. They were scared to make friends, for fear of suffering loss. They
were scared of not making it home. But then again, even after the war was hard. Soldiers kept on
having flashbacks, many became violent. The war changed everyone, and their families had to pay the
price.
The war inspired many of the surviving soldiers to do things. Some wrote books, some wrote poetry,
and some wrote music about their experiences in Vietnam. The war also inspired some people to do
one of the most rewarding things they could possibly do, which is to teach and not necessarily about
Vietnam, but just teaching in general. But those who do decide to teach about their experiences in
Vietnam have the rare opportunity to express themselves, their feelings, and the material they teach in
a way that no other teacher can do. They have the chance to pass on their knowledge in a unique
subject area, where they can it teach better than anybody else possibly could.
So many men died in a war that we should have never been in. And for what? We ended up losing.
Those men died in vain. They

Confederate Monuments Pros And Cons
In the argumentative article Pro/Con: Should Cities Remove Confederate Monuments? the authors
debate the question by using the pros and cons of the argument. This argument has become a popular
topic among American citizens the past few weeks. Many monuments have been taken down and
some moved to less public places due to violence caused by what the monuments represent. The
monuments have caused a split between Americans, one hoping to bring them down, the other hoping
to keep them up. After reading the pros and cons, it is clear that the Confederate Monuments should
not be taken down since they are historical monuments.
Supporters of removing the Confederate monuments say that it honors racism; however, the
monuments connect the past to

  • 2. Nelson Mandela Ethos The speech I am analyzing is Nelson Mandela s speech, Apartheid has no future. In his speech given on February 11, 1990, Mandela thanks all those that stood with him while he was imprisoned. He also stresses there should be more of an effort to completely abolish apartheid. Mandela uses several rhetorical devices to build a strong speech. Nelson Mandela s speech Apartheid has no future is persuasive based on its use of ethos, logos, and pathos. 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 Ethos is built through Mandela s character. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned in 1964 for treason, stemming from his activities with the banned African National Congress (ANC) (Sawinski). When he was twenty four years old Mandela joined the national African Congress. The ANC fought for civil rights for black South Africans. During his time in the ANC Mandela was a part of a peaceful protest. Later a new organization formed called the Congress Youth League, which was a departure or the ANC and its traditional ... Another objective Mandela states are the negotiations of the dismantling of apartheid. Negotiations on the dismantling of apartheid will have to address the overwhelming demand of our people for a democratic nonracial and unitary South Africa (Mandela). In this statement, Mandela states what dismantling apartheid will do and it would address the demand for a democratic nonracial and unitary South Africa. 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 11 1 1 ... The first semester of the 2016 2017 year I ended up with two F s, two D s, a B+ and a C , which was very, very bad. I realized this was not what I was capable of and it was not anywhere near my best work. My parents were disappointed with my actions. It was instilled in me at a young age by my parents that school ALWAYS comes first. My theater director who taught me all throughout high school was disappointed in me, and my soccer coach was disappointed in me. As my dad looked at my grades for the first time his face was overcome with the purest form of disbelief and frustration and from that moment I know it was over. He pulled me from the Fall musical and the soccer team that day. This immediately made me realize that my actions had consequences, and in this case, big ones. I was enrolled in dual credit classes at IVY Tech. We could go there and the high school would pay for it if we made above a C in the classes. I did not make above a ... Now, here I am senior year and my grades have stayed where they were when I left off junior year and in some aspects, gotten a little bit better. • 4. Ambler Real House Scandal Facts: This is a dispute over zoning ordinance and whether it is infringing on the rights of property owners. The Village of Euclid (Euclid) is a municipal corporation in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio. It is 12 14 square acres, most of which is farmland and unimproved acreage. Ambler Realty Co. (Ambler) owns 68 acres of land in the westerly edge of the village. A zoning ordinance was adopted by the Village of Euclid on November 13, 1922 which divided the village into multiple districts and specified exactly what type of buildings were to be built in each district, specifically the use of buildings and their height and FAR. Ambler s land spanned multiple districts of land and so Ambler s ability to construct buildings on its land was severely limited, per the zoning ordinance. Ambler claims that this restriction has reduced the market value of their land from $10,000 to $2,500 per acre. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Explain Why College Athletes Need To Change The Treatment Of College Athletes Need To Change The NCAA needs to protect the overall well being of the athletes because they are the bread and butter of the school and NCAA s income. • 7. Analysis Of Thomas Middleton s The Crucible Analytical Research Paper Thomas Middleton s, Women Beware Women and Arthur Miller s The Crucible, are both set in the 1600s a time when women did not have any rights. Although both stories are completely different from each other, they share a common trait of bold, powerful women. In The Crucible, Abigail s jealousy and desire to have revenge on Elizabeth Proctor has her manipulate everyone in the town of Salem causing hysteria. Livia, the widow in Women Beware Women strategically manipulates every person to turn their backs on each other which creates a tragedy. Abigail and Livia are the villains in their community but how they acquire their power is very different. While Abigail s power comes from her intense desire for revenge on a specific person and then spreads throughout the community, Livia s motivation for power originates from her own boredom and desire for control on a large scale. Both of these characters are nothing short of cynical. They are motivated by self interest and cannot be trusted. Livia, is the sister to Hippolito and Fabritio and the aunt to Isabella. She is a wealthy woman on her own but her life went down hill after losing two husbands. There is no question that she is the essence of evil in Women Beware Women because she wants other people to be miserable as she once was. Arguments Against Scottish Independence Scottish Independence Scottland has been a part of the UK since 1707 after James VII was deposed in 1688 England feared that Scottland would go its own way which led to a formal union of the two kingdoms. And now in September 2014 there was a public poll if there should have been a Scottish Independence. The poll failed with 55% No voters voting against a Scottish Independence. I am going to be looking at some pros and cons of an Scottish Independence. A very popular argument for Scottish Independence is that the Scotland would have a much stronger economy. • 9. Budget Planning And Control Management Budget Planning and Control According to our text a budget is a formal written statement of management s plans for a specified future time period, expressed in financial terms (Wiley, 2013). An effective budget gives a company command and control over financial resources. It helps a company to plan and achieve their strategic and organizational goals. There are many reasons for a company to prepare and manage a budget, such as assisting with performance evaluations and identifying possible constraints and limitations. The budget is an important basis for evaluating performance. It can provide benchmarks against which to judge success or failure in reaching goals and facilitates timely corrective measures (Bragg, 2010). Budgeting forms the baseline for a company s future performance. Managers create the budget anticipating financial conditions and market expectations for future periods. These managers calculate revenues and expenses for the period being budgeted. When the period reflected in the budget arrives, the managers compare actual expenses to the budget numbers and evaluate the department s performance (Bragg, 2010). • 34. Why Did Joseph Stalin Win World War 2 By 1943, the tides had turned for the Germans. They thought they could win the war, but the Battle of Stalingrad left them defeated and they lost many men. The campaign of North Africa and the Battles of El Alamein ended in May 1943, with the Allied forces dominating the Mediterranean. The Big Three Joseph Stalin, Franklin D. Roosevelt, the United States president, and Winston Churchill, Britain s Prime Minister held a conference in Tehran, Iran in November of 1943. They mainly wanted to focus on winning the war, and Stalin suggested opening up a second front, instead of just following Churchill s plan of going through the soft underbelly of Italy. Frameworks In Greenwashing Businesses are facing increasing pressures from both internal and external stakeholders to be accountable and transparent, and to disclose the social, environmental and economic impacts of their activities through sustainability reporting (Klettner, Clarke Boersma 2014; Soderstrom 2013). Accordingly, there has been an increase in organisations claiming their voluntary commitment to the international standards and frameworks for corporate sustainability namely, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) s sustainability reporting guidelines (Klettner, Clarke Boersma 2014; Milne Gray 2013). This is not to say that frameworks such as the GRI do not endorse improvements in business reporting and accountability (Milne Gray 2013). Rather, it is the fact that the adoption of these frameworks solely relies on the voluntary commitment by businesses that reduces its effectiveness (Klettner, Clarke Boersma 2014; Milne Gray 2013). This same issue also extends to companies codes of conduct and certification schemes. Elsewhere, the introduction of the new IR framework by the IIRC (International Integrated Reporting Council) has been suggested to be a paradigm shift in the way corporations report their activities to stakeholders (Klettner, Clarke Boersma 2014; Soderstrom 2013). Until now, business reports primarily focused on TBL (Triple Bottom Line) reporting of economic, social and environmental impacts (Adams 2013). While some corporations have demonstrated a willingness to achieve higher standards of performance in corporate sustainability in line with international frameworks (such as the GRI), rarely do they produce reports which provide information on social and environmental issues to the same extent and quality as that of financial information (Boersma 2013; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A SWOT analysis of using a merger to expand operations follows. A strength from performing a merger is the ability to acquire a company s unused debt. Some firms simply do not exhaust their debt capacity. If a firm with unused debt capacity is acquired, the new management can then increase debt financing, and reap the tax benefits associated with the increased leverage (Keown, 2005, pp. 23 4). Another strength is enabling Baderman Island to remove an ineffective management strategy or team. Baderman Island has the option to decide who stays with the merged company, and who is out the door. Often times, a weak management leading team is the problem the organization has not evaluated for its mediocre success. The merger of two firms can result in an increase in market or monopoly power. Although this can result in increased wealth, it may also be illegal. The Clayton Act, as amended by the Celler Kefauver Amendment of 1950, makes any merger illegal that results in a monopoly or substantially reduces competition. The Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission monitor all mergers to ensure that they do not result in a reduction of competition (Keown, 2005, pp. 23 4). Weaknesses of a merger for Baderman Island are the many distractions that rise to the surface. Employees may show concern with the future of his or her employment, rather than concentrating on the job at hand, thus causing lower production and quality control. ...
