Hook Plate Fixation Case Study
In this study, the hook plate fixation was a good option for the treatment of Herscovici type A and B
fractures because of the good and excellent outcome in all the patients: high union rate and no major
complications were observed during follow up. No hardware removal due to irritation from the plate
was needed. The mean union time was similar to those reported previously [8, 14 15] in which hook
plate were used to repair fractures efficiently and reported limited discomfort. In our study, those
patients did not report any pain or discomfort at the surgical site probably since hook plate has a curve
at the distal of malleolus medialis. It maybe decreases the risk of hardware prominence and soft tissue
irritation.

Although the Association for the Study of Internal Fixation (AO ASIF) recommends that If the
fractures are small avulsions, then the tension band method is considered, K wire tension bands also is
not easy to keep the stabilization of the small avulsions fractures. Biomechanical studies assessing the
strength and durability of different types of hardware placement have previously determined that
neutralization plates provide a significant amount of mechanical advantage over only using screws for
certain fracture patterns [8]. Fixation was achieved in our study with the hook plate. Furthermore,
there is less postoperative irritation of the deltoid ligament from the hook which may be associated
with its curve and deep. This likely reduces the possibility of subsequent injury to the deltoid

The main handicap of Women in India, and truly world wide, has been that of childbirth. The bondage
of reproduction , as Tikoo words it, had left Women reliant on Men for food, protection and shelter
(Tikoo pg 3). Tikoo also notes a Curse of Woman in India which have lowered their place in society
which is that of early marriage. In India, Hindu religious leaders all decreed that a girl should be
married soon after the beginning of puberty (Tikoo pg 23), and that the age of ten is considered
puberty. For Hindu girls, this means that they have little chance at education past this age, and truly
many do not even receive education before. One reason for this is that many prospective in laws
would not want an educated girl, since they believed that she would not want to be a virtual servant
then (Tikoo pg 26).
The plight of Women becomes very apparent in the sphere of marriage. Women are expected to marry,
and many call it the aim of her existence (Billington pg 22). There is a general belief of parents that if
their daughter does not marry, she will go to hell, and any Woman in this society which does not marry
is not seen as a real Woman. At this point she is forced to go into the workforce.
Other statistics from India are shocking. Seven out of ten non school going children are female,

Early Christian Beliefs
Initially, communities of early Christian believers were able to choose their own leaders; however, as
centuries passed, the practice of having secular rulers choose appoint church leaders became routine.
These appointed leaders were eventually able to establish permanent institutions, which not only
expressed Christian values, but also drew from many Greco Roman Traditions. The creation of Nicene
Creed and the establishment of the Roman Catholic Church and the Byzantine Christian (Orthodox)
Church allowed the Christian church to expand and thrive. Initially, communities of early Christian
believers were able to choose their own leaders; however, as centuries passed, the practice of having
secular rulers choose appoint church leaders became routine. As the Roman empire was divided up
into dioceses, the church followed suit with each dioceses being led by a bishop from their cathedral,
who was responsible for their community s preaching, religious teaching, community goods,
maintaining orthodox doctrines, and delegating responsibilities for preaching and teaching as needed.
Although secular leaders frequently chose church leaders, conflicts of jurisdiction over spiritual and

Similar to Rome, there was a head of the church established in Constantinople called the patriarch, but
he did not have the same power as the pope of the Roman Church. Religion was viewed as a branch of
the state which needed to be protected not only against heathen outsiders but also heretics within the
empire (McKay, 216), and the emperor was responsible for appointing the patriarch and other church
officials. Much like Constantine, emperors would settle disputes by calling councils of bishops and
theologians. Church leaders in the east disagreed with Rome s claim of supremacy, and gradually they

The Democratic Alliance and the Future of South Africa
Good morning. As a representative and leader in the Democratic Alliance, I have come here today to
explain to you why the DA sees a brighter and more opportune future for South Africa. However, we
need your support in order to change our country into a nation of hope and for our dream of everyone
to live in peace and prosperity to become a reality.
To understand our manifesto and views, one needs to understand that the DA does not place people in
a position of power according to their race, name or wealth, but rather their talents and efforts. This
country cannot move forward without change, and as it stands the unemployment rates and the ever
increasing problems are being put aside by the current government for personal ventures such as
Nkandla that is surrounded by houses without running water. But dwelling on the negatives and
current failures is not our objective. I am here to vie and let you decide that we are working towards a
brighter future.
it is understandable that people are worried that if they do not vote for the current government that the
circumstances of apartheid and a dark past will reappear, but it can be assured that the DA are working
towards changing the past and aim for a country that has equal opportunities for all. Our work is
evident in the Western Cape where we govern and 76% of the provincial governments budget is spent
on poor communities. The Western Capes unemployment rate is the lowest in the country, 12% lower
than anywhere else in South

The Method Of Detection Of Dna
1. Primer Annealing temperature is lowered so that primers attach to DNA strands
2. Extension DNA polymerase (e.g. Taq) helps to make new DNA strands.
The PCR cycle continues as DNA is copied exponentially. The original PCR methods allowed
detection of DNA growth at the end of the process; however the introduction Real Time PCR (RT
PCR) has allowed DNA amplification progress to be monitored throughout the assay (6).
RT PCR is often confused with reverse transcriptase PCR (rt PCR), however rt PCR is a method of
detecting RNA by utilising reverse transcriptase to synthesise cDNA by. cDNA is then amplified and
detected by PCR techniques (6).
RT PCR has now advanced so that assays can now screen several viral DNA/RNA at once (Multiplex
PCR). The Roche Cobas TaqScreen MPX Test v2.0 encompasses an rt PCR stage to allow detection
of:
HIV 1 Group M (RNA)
HIV 1 Group O (RNA)
HIV 2 (RNA)
HCV (DNA)
HBV (DNA)
(5)
MPX PCR uses several gene specific primers (forward and reverse strands) within a reaction mix.
Internal controls are present within the testing kit, making the process highly efficient. By combining
several tests on one platform, this is a very lean method testing; however there is a small risk of cross
hybridisation due to the volume of different primers used (5,6).
An added benefit of using RT PCR to screen viral targets is that they shorten the detection window
period of some viruses. This means, even if a viral marker can be detected serologically

Role Of The Private Limited Company
1.0 Introduction Incorporation is forming of a new corporation. A corporation is like a legal entity that
can be effectively recognized as a person under the law. The corporation may be a non profit
organization or a business. It is not affected by the death of any member. A sole trader is the most
simple structure of business. This structure is less expensive to set up because there are very few legal
and tax formalities. Operating your business as a sole trader means you trade on your own and control
and manage the business. In Private Limited Company there is a minimum two to a maximum of fifty

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Case Study
The term a perfect storm is used to describe a serendipitous confluence of events which results in
something astounding and often catastrophic. Considered on their own, each of the events is not
terribly remarkable, but when the events are combined, the results can be devastating.Once the storm
dissipates and reveals what is remaining then you can assess the damage. PTSD and TBI together
create a diagnosis of a perfect storm. PTSD and TBI are medically considered two separate mental
conditions; both triggered by a traumatic event. Diagnosis of both conditions have specific factors that
lead events which trigger the prognosis. Sadly common, PTSD and TBI are commonly diagnosed
together; deeply intertwined, making differentiating the two almost impossible for the patient.

Single Sex Schools
Are Single Sex Schools the Right Choice? In August of 2015 Katie Hallik was doubting being in
school. She asked her parents if she could be homeschooled but both of her parents worked and they
didn t have time. For the next few days she was trying so hard to get her parents to budge but nothing
worked. She had finally found out about single sex schools. As soon as I read a little bit about a single
sex school, I called my parents states Hallik. She once felt like she had no other option, but a single
sex school made the rest of her school life. We need single sex schools. Kids are feeling more
comfortable without the other sex Studies show that girls and boys are becoming stronger in the areas
they were struggling in because they are more comfortable being able to raise their hand and try. Girls
typically struggle in math and science so the separation is helping with those struggles. One of the
girls has to answer even if they don t know the answer, so they are more for trial and error kind of

discussions in a single sex classroom (Should Girls and Boys be Taught Separately, 2016) Boys

Hiv And How Is It Different From Hiv ( Human...
What exactly is AIDS and how is it different from HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus)? AIDS is a
severe form of HIV in which someone s immune system is completely destroyed; HIV is a virus that
affects the immune system. In other words, you can have HIV without AIDS, but if you have AIDS,
then you automatically have HIV. The origin of HIV is disputed between scientists; some have
theorized that it was passed down from apes and somehow transferred between humans. HIV attacks
the bloodstream and eliminates the body s CD4 cells, which essential for countering diseases and
infections. Without these cells, the human body is vulnerable to viruses and diseases. Once inside one
s body, the HIV virus first replicates and spreads itself using the CD4 cells; then the CD4 cells are
destroyed. Once the CD4 have been destroyed, a person s immune system has been greatly weakened
that even a simple cold or fever can nearly kill them. Due to this, the human body cannot counter
diseases and illnesses due to the destruction of the CD4 cells and the weakened state of the immune
system.
HIV and AIDS is spread and contracted by humans in a variety of ways. HIV/AIDS is spread when
bodily fluids, such as saliva, breast milk, and blood, are exchanged from human to human. These body
fluids are exchanged through human contact, blood transfers, or sharing medical equipment. Scientists
have discovered that HIV/AIDS is very common among lesbian and homosexual couples; although, it
can be frequent in

A Reflection On The Life Of Hereworth Church
It is something of a challenge to write a reflection on the life of the chapel through 2017 when I have
only been there for a small part of it. Suffice it to say that the past year has been one of change and
transition for the role of Chaplain at Hereworth School, and for the life of the chapel. With Reverend
Rosemary Carey s departure at the end of Term Two, the life of the chapel was placed in the hands of
the teaching staff for Term Three, with valiant efforts to continue the spiritual dimension of the school.
While no doubt the experience was enjoyed by staff and students alike, the words uttered to me by one
staff member as I left my first chapel service, Thank God you re here , suggest there is an appreciation
for the unique challenges of the role.
These challenges are what I have been discovering as I have gone, very quickly, through our final term
of 2017. While there are definitely similarities to the parish ministry I was engaged in prior to joining
Hereworth, there are also distinct differences the demographic being a major part of that difference.
How do we translate the great power and truth of our Christian faith into language and practices that
are intelligible and formative for young boys? What are the tools and resources of our faith that not
only form our heritage but the character of those who come under their tutelage? What is it that the
spiritual life of Hereworth School can provide to our boys and our communities that make it
indispensable,

Essay about Joseph Conrad s The Women of Heart of Darkness
Joseph Conrad s The Women of Heart of Darkness
The novella Heart of Darkness illustrates readers with three different types of depictions that men had
of women during the late 1800 s; also known as the imperialistic era. These depictions were as
follows; the naive woman, the mistress, and the wealthy widow. The naïve woman was personified by
Kurtz intended. The mistress was personified by the native African woman. The wealthy widow is
personified by Marlow s aunt. This assumption can be made on various levels. The most obvious level
is how Joseph Conrad never gave these characters names. Also when they are mentioned it is very
brief.
Kurtz s intended is the naïve character. She is alone and waiting for Kurtz for as long ... Show more

The small part that she has in this novella she manages to sound like a naïve woman.
The second character that we are introduced to is Kurtz s African mistress. The mistress is a beautiful
woman who seems to evoke some sort of control over the men. Whenever she is mentioned the men
just stand there as if in awe. She never speaks in the novella. During the late 1800 s it was acceptable
for men to have mistress , I believe that is what Conrad tried to show. That s why Kurtz s intended
never questioned why he was taking so long. She probably knew he had a mistress and couldn t really
say anything against it. The mistress managed to gain some type of control over Kurtz, and that is why
he hadn t left yet. Even Marlow was in awe when he saw the beautiful native woman with jewelry on.
Perhaps she was a wealthy woman, and that s why the people respected her.
The last female character that I will examine is Marlow s aunt. She is perhaps a wealthy widow, who
also has nothing better to do with her money. She believes strongly on the topic of imperialism. She
thinks that it helps people progress. She was the one who got Marlow this opportunity. Marlow s aunt
is the combination of both characters. She was naïve and controlling at the same time. Conrad
probably used this character to show readers how older women were in the past.
Its amazing to see how men stereotyped women in the past it hasn t

Film Analysis Of Citizen Kane
Citizen Kane was rife with innovations in cinematic technique and introduced many new and unique
aspects of mise en scèné that would thrive in films to come. Orson Welles was a young visionary
whose career had been limited to stage production and radio until his first film, Citizen Kane.
Uniquely, as someone new to the film industry, he retained full creative control of his very first
project, co writing, producing, directing, and starring as Kane himself. This unfounded level of trust
for a newcomer allowed Welles to trail blaze and experiment with techniques few other directors were
willing to risk such as a non linear story, narrative from multiple unusual character perspectives,
unique blocking and lighting, deep focus, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, the use of low camera angles required sets to be built with ceilings which was very
different from typical Hollywood conventions. Studios usually had large sets of lights above the the
set to illuminate the scene, but with the low camera angles used, the lighting had to come from other
sources, primarily atmospheric lighting. The presence of lighting and how it is used in Citizen Kane is
unique and was influenced greatly by the low camera angles used, but after eliminating the overhead
lighting effects afforded by not having a ceiling, Welles and Toland used this absence of light to their
advantage. The use of focused light to illuminate the subject of a shot in deep focus still allowed the
viewer to pick out whatever he wanted to see, but the director still had control over that focus using
lighting and shadows. Shadows played a particularly strong part in Citizen Kane. A notable scene is
when the opera ends and Kane alone is standing to applaud. In this scene Kane is backlit so we see his
shadow standing out in stark contrast to those around him who remain seated. Using light and dark in
stark contrast like this is called chiaroscuro and is frequently an element of film noir.
Citizen Kane can be called the first film noir. Film noir is a style characterized by the use of
chiaroscuro, unique camera angles, and stories that often include a mystery or investigation. Welles
delivers those things with his story of Charles

Film Analysis Of Dear White People
In this paper, we will discuss whether the subaltern is being heard clearly within film and television.
Although in modern film we have somewhat shifted away from the former stereotypical black
characters, the genuine black life is still concealed due to mainly white producers and directors. Film
has come a long way from the generic social constructs including coons, mammies, and bucks, yet it
has not reached its full potential as far as presenting the average African American s life. The
Caucasian producers decide the nature of black life without experiencing first hand. Essentially, to get
a truly authentic story, it must be expressed by those who have lived through it. Narratives should
nevertheless be told by the person or persons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His actual message of wanting to be considered equal with the white man is stifled by his submission
to social constructs. The sanction of this notion allows for the inferiority complex to exist. If the
African American surrenders his drive for equality, white people can continue the narrative that their
sovereignty is for the best. White people will find any excuse to validate colonial racism with ideas
such as God created them superior or that their colonization was solely to stimulate economic growth
within that particular country. Another aspect of Fanon s thoughts is that whites in the middle class
treat blacks with a sense of subsidiarity to promote their own elevation. This statement can be justified
with Fanon s statement, By treating the Jew as an inferior and pernicious being, I affirm at the same
time that I belong to the elite. Although middle class whites are toward the outer rings of the hegemon,
they criticize blacks in order to attempt to propel themselves toward the inner hegemon. Particularly in

Not Just A Love Story
Not just a love story meant for children, the Pixar movie Wall e it is a vision of the hard reality this

there are far more important things that needed to be focused on throughout everyday life. In the

movie Wall e is deserving of the definition of an earnest ecological parable, through generational
entitlement, consumerism, and lack of sustainability. With the world changing, and generations

Torture, being defined by the 1984 Convention Against Torture is the cruel, inhumane, or degrading
infliction of severe pain or suffering, physical or mental, on a prisoner to obtain information or a

Reflection On The Cradle Catholic
With over half of the students in Xavier University s undergraduate program identifying as Catholics,
I was not surprised that I ended up with a partner who is Catholic. However, I was surprised to hear
how into the Catholic faith my partner was and how much it has influenced him as a person. My
partner was Max Foreman, and just like myself, he has been a cradle Catholic his entire life. Cradle
Catholic is a term used to basically say that since he was born he has been Catholic because his
parents were Catholic and wanted to pass their faith down to him. As a Roman Catholic you are
expected to attend Mass every Sunday and every holy day of obligation. For just one hour a week we
go to listen to the word of God, pray to God, and receive the Eucharist, but only if you have had your
First Communion. Not only did Max attend Mass every Sunday, he was an active part of it because he
was an altar server. Basically, an altar server is the priest s first hand man while Mass is being
celebrated. When I asked Max to expand more on his experience as an altar server he told me that it
allowed him to really become closer with God and realize that the Eucharist truly is more than just a
piece of bread and wine but that it fully is the actual body and blood of our Lord and Savior, Jesus

The pH of all ethosomal gels was found between 6.0 and 7.0 (Table 3) that lie in the normal pH range
of skin, 4.0 6.8 and hence the preparations will be irritation free [24]. The pH of all the ethosomal gels
was more or less equal to the skin pH, making the formulations suitable for application on skin aiding
in systemic action. % Drug content of all the formulations was determined and was found to have a
range of 98 100% when UV Spectrophotometer is used. This shows that drug was dispersed
homogenously throughout the gels. The drug content for F13 formulation was found to be higher
because of the optimum ethanol concentration. The Viscosity is optimum for 1.5% carbopol
concentration since it has good flow and consistency unlike the 1% and the 2%, these both have either
less or more viscosity compared to the optimum 1.5% carbopol. Viscosity of the optimized gel was
found to have a range of 754 1350cp. Among which 1.5% concentration of carbopol gave good results
of 1290±7cp. Determination of viscosity of gel matrix, is important as it assists in evaluating the
penetration across the skin by controlling the release of the drug into the receptor medium. The same
trend was observed by Lin et al., (2014) on the viscosity of apigenin ethosomes formulation [25].
The stability studies were conducted for the optimized formulation by keeping it in a stability chamber

The zeta potential was determined and it was found to be 39.7 mV which indicates good physical
stability. Stability studies carried out for a period of 9 weeks showed negligible changes in the

that a successful ethosomal formulation can be formulated for finasteride. Further this can be

A History of the AT T Stadium
The Dallas Cowboys, America s football team, one of the most well known professional football
franchises in the sport s history. The Cowboys own five super bowl titles, which were won in 71, 77,

Hall of Fame including standout football stars Tony Dorsett, Emmit Smith, and Troy Aikman.
Established in 1960, the Cowboys have been a dominating force on the field and still continue to

To aid Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones, whom is stated in Forbes Magazine as being
worth 3.1 billion dollars himself, (Page 1), in paying the construction costs of the new stadium,
Arlington voters approved the increase of the city s sales tax by 0.5 percent, the hotel occupancy tax
by 2 percent, and car rental tax by 5 percent. The City of Arlington provided over $325 million
(including interest) in bonds as funding, and Jones covered any cost overruns. Also, the NFL provided
the Cowboys with an additional $150 million loan, following its policy for facilitating financing for
the construction of new stadiums, (Page 1). Strengths and Weaknesses A key strength that the
Cowboys franchise holds is the obvious tradition of winning and success on the football field. As
mentioned before, the Cowboys have 5 Super Bowl titles and that gives the team a legendary aura
every time they step out on the field. This allows their fan base to be very large, consistent and proud
to be part of the franchise. Along with that strength though, comes a weakness. The history of the
Cowboys is a history of excellence and winning which is hard to hold and be consistent with in the
NFL. Winning three Super Bowl titles in four years is a hard mark to reach but ever since that
accomplishment the Cowboys have been nowhere near replicating that achievement. The fan base was

Critically discuss the notion of labour as a “fictitious...
Critically discuss the notion of labour as a fictitious commodity . Provide examples where necessary.
This paper outlines the argument of labour as a fictious commodity using Polanyi s work. This paper
first define what commodity is and what fictitious commodity is before going into deep details of this
topic. Conclusions have been drawn base on the main core of the topic and critiques of fictitious
commodity by Polanyi.
First, a commodity is a good or service that is actively produced for sale in a labour process. A
commodity can result from peasant, petty commodity, state production, cooperative production, or
social enterprise as well as capitalist production what matters is its production for sale (Polanyi 2001,
71). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Polanyi nonetheless highlights that while labour, land, and money are essential to the market
economy; the fact is that they are not commodities, in the sense that they are not objects produced for
sale on the market. As Polanyi points out, labour is another name for a human activity which goes
with life itself, which in its turn is not produced for sale but for entirely different reasons, nor can that
activity be detached from the rest of life, be stored or mobilized (Polanyi 2001, 75). Similarly, land is
another name for nature, which is not produced by man ; while money is merely a token of purchasing
power which, as a rule, is not produced at all, but comes into being through the mechanism of banking
or state finance (Polanyi 2001, 75). To include these fictitious commodities in the market mechanism
means to subordinate the substance of society itself to the laws of the market (Polanyi 2001, 75). For
Polanyi (2001. 76), this would inevitably result on the demolishing of society. The commodity
description of labor is entirely fictitious
Polanyi s critique goes to the core of neoclassical economics and its claims about equilibrium prices
and self regulation. The imperative for non market

Persuasive Essay About Horse Slaughter
Would you kill your best friend after years of hard work together? I believe horse slaughter is a
necessary evil due to many different reasons. The first reason is due to horses that cannot be used
anymore due to health reasons. It would be wonderful to be able to afford a lame horse to sit on
pasture all day, but that is not always an option. Nobody is going to buy a lame horse when they can
buy a perfectly able horse for the same price. Where does a lame horse go? He goes to the auction and
a kill buyer buys him. He gets sent across the US border into Canada or Mexico to be slaughtered. He
has to suffer through the long trailer ride in horrendous conditions to the slaughter plant. Then, he
arrives at the slaughter plant. They open the trailer doors and he gets trampled by other horses trying
to get off. Now, he is injured and limps out of the trailer. All the horses are scared and they are

which means that she was supposed to be born with two or more colors but she was born with only

I almost wish they would have sent her off to slaughter for she would not have had to suffer. Horse

particulates, biological molecules, and many harmful substances into Earth s atmosphere, causing
diseases, allergies, and death to humans, damage of other living organisms like animals and crops, or
the natural environment (National Geographic, 2016). Georgia air pollution has been a focus for many
years. Environmental protection Agency and Clean air act has been one of the main contributors to

Arguments Against Gambling Addiction
Intermittent reinforcements is a conditioning schedule in which a reward or punishment is not
administered every time the desired response is performed. There is an increased likelihood the
desired behavior will continue with intermittent reinforcement conditioning and the behavior last
longer. Gambling is a great example of intermittent reinforcement because you do not win every time
or the same amount, which is exciting and fun for lots of people. The reinforcement is intermittent,
and causes a positive and euphoric response in the brain that in some circumstances can lead to
gambling addiction. Although, gambling can lead to addiction, the purpose of this is to paper is to
acknowledge ethical stance against lotteries and the economic value it brings. The lottery is a different
form of gambling since there are no skills required in winning the lottery, other than purchasing
tickets. It does not discriminate against characteristics of a person and totally randomized. The ethical
issue with the lottery is not whether a person has a chance of winning the millions of dollars, but what
will the person do with all that money and power. Nonetheless, a good percentage of those winnings

Mitigating Human Rights and Security Abuses
The international community, although faced with many obstacles, can do more to improve how
people are treated in situations where human rights abuses could be occurring. Abuses against human
rights have occurred for a number of years, most notably against the Jews in World War Two. A
modern example where both Human security and rights have been impeded upon is in the context of
the ongoing Syrian conflict. War crimes are widely known to have been perpetrated by the Syrian
government and the resulting violence has left millions of Syrians displaced. The international

While this is true, they were punished through forms of torture which is explicitly outlawed in the UN
s 1984 convention against torture. The Syrian governments violations of human rights impact upon the
security of the Syrian people because being deprived of basic rights and freedoms places them at
grave risk of violence and harsh punishment from the state. The conflict quickly escalated to a point
where both sides have now been found guilty of committing war crimes such as torture and hostage
taking.
The extent to which human rights abuses have been occurring has alarmed the international
community and has prompted condemnation from international organisations such as the UN and
NATO. In spite of this condemnation however, little ground has actually been made in reducing
human rights abuses in Syria and upholding the security of its people. What little action that has
occurred includes Syria being convinced largely of the back of pressure from the US and Russia to
adopt ratify the UN treat against chemical weapons which it did so in September 2013 The
improvements made in Syria are minute though because rights breaches continue to occur in ways
which hugely threaten human security. Approximately 9 million Syrians have been displaced from
their homes in the wake of the civil war which has seen the government bomb towns where rebels
were supposedly hiding out. The current situation in Syria has resulted in decreased security for its
people which, in turn,

Emile Durkheim Religion
Through ethnographic research, Durkheim can explain the fundamentals of religion and its relation to
society. We are not born with the innate knowledge of structural situations or cultural effects that
occur within a society. Nor, are we aware of the effects our behaviors and attitudes have on a society.
Durkheim s worked untimely explained how the moral realm functioned by focusing on primitive
religion. Religious ceremonies closely resemble social life, containing highly routined acts. The
essential elements of religion include rites which are expressed by rituals and practice. Rituals unite
social groups regardless of individual differences, which are found in both modern and traditional
societies because rituals are a part of both. Durkheim noted, to have a ... Show more content on

I, for example, am very unfamiliar with the society of sports, however, I am able to apply Durkheim s
fundamental concepts to deconstruct the sacred and profane of it. In football or any other major sports,
has become a religion for many. How so? Sports fans often elevate their players and define them as a
god to the team, and practice rituals for certain games, their church is their stadium where their
follows go to admire and support them. The put significant sacredness on their team s logo (symbols)
and despise the profane acts such as jinxing the team by doing something out of the usual routine.
Although such example is a bit extreme, it does prove Durkheim s observations and considerations of
collective representation in making a society cohesive. If society did not have these elements, it would
cause constant chaos and further disagreements on morality. He provides an understanding of the
discipline of sociology and the social phenomena that is observed in each

Texting And Driving Is Wrong
Texting and driving is something that causes many accidents on the roads. Everyone knows that
texting and driving is wrong and could cause an accident. Since that texting and driving is a
potentially dangerous behavior, that every single driver behind the wheel knows, but does I anyways
because of the deviant behavior and mindset towards texting and driving. When you text and drive
you are knowingly taking a risk of an accident because of how texting distracts a person from driving
properly. Texting and driving is when you use your phone while operating a motor vehicle. When
making this choice to do this, drivers often: drift off to the sides of roads, run stop signals, run into
another car, etc. Using your phone any kind of way is distracting because you are taking your eyes off
the road, and into a screen. Even though the time it takes to text is really small, that s all it takes to
causing a car accident. These behaviors are starting to get embedded in our social norms
(Seiler).Texting and driving is growing more common because of the popularity of the use a cell
phone and texting. A reason why texting and driving is growing more popular is because of the risk of
getting caught texting and driving. A lot people never get caught by the police texting and driving
because of how easy and quick it is to do and stop doing. Since it is so easy to do and lack of getting
caught without consequences makes you more likely to keep doing it (Seiler). Another reason why

Heat Waste Of Lightbulbs Lab Report
Heat Waste of Common Lightbulbs
Introduction
The purpose of my experiment was to see how much energy was wasted in different types and
wattages of lightbulbs through the output of heat. The initial objective of the project was to research
the variety of lightbulbs available on the market today including their wattage and other important
features pertaining to their operation before starting the experiment. The reports provided information
that first helped me to formulate a plan to calculate heat energy, measured in calories. I was then able
to subsequently convert the heat energy into joules which is a more commonly used unit of energy.
This was accomplished by multiplying the amount of calories produced through ... Show more content

The data also shows that CFL bulbs were a very close second in the amount of wasted heat energy per

instance, when setting up a light source near something that could easily catch on fire, it would not be
a good idea to use one of the bulbs that give off a lot of heat energy. Also, if you want to use the most
efficient bulb, you should consider the one that turns most of the energy it uses into light energy like

careers on music as musicians, composers, singers, or teachers while the latter of us just need music to

contemporary society affects us in a myriad of different ways including the undeniable effect on our

fighting in a boxing tournament. The music is sweet and mournful in the shots with Lucy and the shop

shop owner develops the element of time as well as the music. In just a few minutes of this scene, the
father fights, discovers where Lucy is, and goes to the shop to retrieve Lucy. The cross cutting
technique allows the audience to know where the characters are in relation to one another, but the
music is the element that distorts the audience s perception of reality. The music, especially of that

the most effective ways music can affect mood and perceptions is how a score can relate or define a

The Man I Killed, By Tim O’Brien
Usually when someone is murdered, people expect the murderer to feel culpable. This though, is not
the case in war. When in war, a soldier is taught that the enemy deserves to die, for no other reason
than that they are the nation s enemy. When Tim O Brien kills a man during the Vietnam War, he is
shocked that the man is not the buff, wicked, and terrifying enemy he was expecting. This realization
overwhelms him in guilt. O Brien s guilt has him so fixated on the life of his victim that his own
presence in the story as protagonist and narrator fades to the black. Since he doesn t use the first
person to explain his guilt and confusion, he negotiates his feelings by operating in fantasy by
imagining an entire life for his victim, from his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But with the same fantasy, he also tortures himself, by imagining exactly why the man s death might
be such a horrible tragedy. O Brien feeds his guilt by imagining that the man he killed was in the
prime of his life. By imagining that the man he killed wrote romantic poems in his journal and had
fallen in love with a classmate whom he married before he enlisted as a common rifleman, O Brien
can more easily identify with his victim and understand the terrible nature of the killing. When
describing the life of the man he killed O Brien starts every sentence with the word He as if to make it
clear that even though the man and O Brien were similar, it was still the man s life that was ended not
O Brien s. Also by continuously using He O Brien tries to separate himself from the man to make him
the enemy but in the end he fails. O Brien can t justify what he did because the realization that the
man was just a regular man shatters his idea of the Vietnamese deserving the violence. The futile
comments and half hearted attempts of comfort made by the other soldiers along with the conspicuous
silence demonstrate that nothing can erase the harsh reality of what has occurred. Azar s pitiless offers

Sadly, recent observations have concluded that the proportion of the world s population employed in
agriculture has declined in recent decades and 50 per cent of the world s population now lives in urban
environments. This proportion is expected to rise to 70 per cent by 2050 (Parfitt et al., Food Waste

usually change the foods consumed by the dieter. As the fads change, so does the demand for different
types of food. As the demand for one food item increases, the demand of others decrease. Due to the
constant changes, it is extremely difficult for farmers to plan what they need to grow. As farmers fail
to predict the amount of crops needed, the extra food is more likely to become waste. As the
predictability changes, farmers cannot make profit. This also leads to the decline of farms.

organization requires the ability to adapt in to survive as Darwin states in The Origin of Man, It is not

Data obtained from Press Ganey Scores to evaluate patient satisfaction has been shown to have a
direct link with hospital profitability. A 2002 Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health care
Organizations report states According to a Press Ganey and Associates report, there is an almost
perfect correlation between hospital employee satisfaction and patient satisfaction (Health care at the
crossroads, 2002, p. 8).
Outcome measurement strategies focus on prevention of slide back by reinforcing the goal, identifying
challenges that may lead to barriers to proposed change, and establishing early intervention. For
example, Schein (2002) states for new behaviors to last, they must first fit into the personality of the
individual or the culture of the group that is being changed. Otherwise, the behavior will be only a
temporary adaptation to the pressures of the change situation, and will erode once the change agent
has ceased to disconfirm the old behavior (Schein, 2002, p. 39). Research suggests if minimum
staffing regulations improve nurse satisfaction, reduce job stress, and relieve workload, nurse turnover
may indeed decline, further improving the quality of hospital care, (Spetz, 2008, p. 1). Although the

Human activities generate many different forms of pollution that are harmful to our environment, for
example; water pollution. Pollutants change the pH balance of the water sources they infest, which in
large cases is dangerous to the plants and animals that both live in that water source and rely on it for
survival. Industrial activities such as mining and manufacturing produce waste that make the pH
balance of water acidic, while in suburban areas the waste produced and the activities that affect the
water sources generally make the water more alkaline.
This investigation will determine whether a river running through the local suburban area is being
polluted by the community, its occupants, and their regular lifestyles or not.
Hypothesis: The water in the river running through a suburban area is more polluted with alkaline
substances than acidic substances.
Aim: to investigate whether the water in the river running through a suburban area is more polluted

downtown. It is literally in the middle of the city and because of its location the students there come
from all kinds of ethnic, culture, and economic backgrounds. One of the mission statements for this
school is Using research based strategies, along with high expectations, to increase student
achievement and prepare students for post secondary education and/or the world of work. Though I
agree with somethings in this mission statement I also disagree with much of it as well. I do not agree
with including that the school looks to prepare

Seed Lab
Background:
What is a Seed?
General Information on Seeds
Seed Structure includes:
The embryo is a young sporophyte, tiny plant before it develops from the seed.
(http://www.kidzone.ws/science/is seeds.htm)
A seed coat is the protective outer layer of a seed, which keeps the embryo from being damaged as
well as from drying out. The seed coat can also be thin and soft.
The endosperm is a temporary food supply that is used by the embryo to help with its growth. The
endosperm is actually formed around the seed leaves, or cotyledon, which provides a source of food
for the plant until the plant forms true leaves. (https://extension.illinois.edu/gpe/case3/c3facts2.html)

Powers. For his experiment, he tested how the different pH levels can effect lettuce and poppy seed
germination. He obtained 5 poppy or lettuce seeds and incubated these seeds for 6 days at room
temperature. The solutions ranged from the pH scale from 3 to 11. He also added 2ml of the
substances each day. Mariko also measured the root length.

In Kayleigh Magahan, Frederick Styles, and Sofia Dinges experiment of the Effects of Acidity on
Radishes is similar to our experiment. In their experiment, they planted three radish seeds in three jars.
In addition, they also used water as the neutral substance, while they used 5.6 pH and 4.5 pH solutions
to figure out the effects of acidity on the radishes. They also measured the root as well. Although the
base is not present in this experiment, the pH levels were the experimental variable, while the neutral
substance was the controlled variable. (Effects of Acidity on Radishes

Claude Monet Haystacks
Claude Monet was a French artist of the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. He used very gestural brush
strokes in many of his painted, making them less realistic like any of the artist were doing at the time.
He was thought of as the father of Impressionism. Impressionism is taking a image out of the realism
skim and making it looked less real and instead more of a painting. This is done by the long and large
brush strokes in many of Monet s pieces, making them an Impression of an image rather than going
for a photographic look. The movement name actually came from reviewers stating that the work was
an impression of an image rather than its own piece of art.
This piece above Haystacks , relates to capturing the impression of a moment ... Show more content

This made it easy for Mondrian to make the pieces such like haystacks. The elements of the movement
are color, line, and value. In the painting Monet used very bright and dark colors, and used large
brushstroke lines as well. The value is seen in the darkness of the background and the brightness of the
green lilies. This is also seen in many of the other pieces of impressionism in this time period.
Monet employs the principles of organization through scale, emphasis, contrast, and proportion. He
uses the close up scale of the haystack to show its emphasis in the piece. The contrast of the bright sky
on the darker haystack is very defined as well.
He used many elements of design in his piece as well. Line is a huge one; you can see the lines from
the shadows, the parallel lines of the tops of the haystacks, and the landscape horizontal line as well.
He also showed a ton of space since the haystacks are all on the left side, the right is a huge open
space in the painting. Form is also used in the piece, considering the haystacks look 3D to the human
eye. The color and value work together to create the darkness of the haystacks and shadows, and the
light blue of the sky as well. Mass is the last element seen in this piece. The haystacks seem so
massive in the foreground compared to the horizon in the face background of the

Too Much Power In George Orwell s 1984
There are some aspects that I think are most important to the book that connects to our everyday lives.
Power is the controlling of someone s actions by the government. Freedom is being able to do what
you want, how you want to do it. Privacy is having the ability to not have someone look through your
stuff without someone asking. These aspects connected more with the world because people are going
through difficulties with these things. Orwell s 1984 is relevant in the year 2016 because The United
States government and the Oceania government are similar in their use of freedom, restricted power,
and privacy for the citizens. The Oceanian government and the United States government use power to
have control over what people say, do and think. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only recognized purpose of the marriage was to beget children for the service of the Party (Orwell
65). This explains that the only way for them to get married to one another is of they go to the
government and the government has to approve of it. This shows that the government has power of
their relationships. If the government don t like the relationship, then those people can t be together.
They had to have a purpose for getting married and the only real purpose was the children they would
make. The gay marriage paradox: Begging the government for a license to marry isn t freedom; it s
enslavement to Big Brother (Adams). On June 26, 2015, the United States of America legalized gay
marriage. You shouldn t have to knock on the door for you to get freedom. Based on John Locke s
idea, people should be inherited with natural rights and by restricting gay marriage limits those rights.
This shows that American and English societies are based on the same thing. The government treats
everybody the same when it comes to certain things. When the government did this, they had the
power to say who can marry who and what can marry what. It s enslavement to Big

Hook Plate Fixation Case Study In this study, the hook plate fixation was a good option for the treatment of Herscovici type A and B fractures because of the good and excellent outcome in all the patients: high union rate and no major complications were observed during follow up. No hardware removal due to irritation from the plate was needed. The mean union time was similar to those reported previously [8, 14 15] in which hook plate were used to repair fractures efficiently and reported limited discomfort. In our study, those patients did not report any pain or discomfort at the surgical site probably since hook plate has a curve at the distal of malleolus medialis. The bondage of reproduction , as Tikoo words it, had left Women reliant on Men for food, protection and shelter (Tikoo pg 3). Tikoo also notes a Curse of Woman in India which have lowered their place in society which is that of early marriage. In India, Hindu religious leaders all decreed that a girl should be married soon after the beginning of puberty (Tikoo pg 23), and that the age of ten is considered puberty. For Hindu girls, this means that they have little chance at education past this age, and truly many do not even receive education before. One reason for this is that many prospective in laws would not want an educated girl, since they believed that she would not want to be a virtual servant then (Tikoo pg 26). The plight of Women becomes very apparent in the sphere of marriage. Women are expected to marry, and many call it the aim of her existence (Billington pg 22). There is a general belief of parents that if their daughter does not marry, she will go to hell, and any Woman in this society which does not marry is not seen as a real Woman. At this point she is forced to go into the workforce.

Early Christian Beliefs Initially, communities of early Christian believers were able to choose their own leaders; however, as centuries passed, the practice of having secular rulers choose appoint church leaders became routine. These appointed leaders were eventually able to establish permanent institutions, which not only expressed Christian values, but also drew from many Greco Roman Traditions. The creation of Nicene Creed and the establishment of the Roman Catholic Church and the Byzantine Christian (Orthodox) Church allowed the Christian church to expand and thrive. Initially, communities of early Christian believers were able to choose their own leaders; however, as centuries passed, the practice of having secular rulers choose appoint church leaders became routine. As the Roman empire was divided up into dioceses, the church followed suit with each dioceses being led by a bishop from their cathedral, who was responsible for their community s preaching, religious teaching, community goods, maintaining orthodox doctrines, and delegating responsibilities for preaching and teaching as needed. As a representative and leader in the Democratic Alliance, I have come here today to explain to you why the DA sees a brighter and more opportune future for South Africa. However, we need your support in order to change our country into a nation of hope and for our dream of everyone to live in peace and prosperity to become a reality. To understand our manifesto and views, one needs to understand that the DA does not place people in a position of power according to their race, name or wealth, but rather their talents and efforts. This country cannot move forward without change, and as it stands the unemployment rates and the ever increasing problems are being put aside by the current government for personal ventures such as Nkandla that is surrounded by houses without running water. But dwelling on the negatives and current failures is not our objective. I am here to vie and let you decide that we are working towards a brighter future. it is understandable that people are worried that if they do not vote for the current government that the circumstances of apartheid and a dark past will reappear, but it can be assured that the DA are working towards changing the past and aim for a country that has equal opportunities for all. The PCR cycle continues as DNA is copied exponentially. The original PCR methods allowed detection of DNA growth at the end of the process; however the introduction Real Time PCR (RT PCR) has allowed DNA amplification progress to be monitored throughout the assay (6). RT PCR is often confused with reverse transcriptase PCR (rt PCR), however rt PCR is a method of detecting RNA by utilising reverse transcriptase to synthesise cDNA by. cDNA is then amplified and detected by PCR techniques (6). RT PCR has now advanced so that assays can now screen several viral DNA/RNA at once (Multiplex PCR). The Roche Cobas TaqScreen MPX Test v2.0 encompasses an rt PCR stage to allow detection of: HIV 1 Group M (RNA) HIV 1 Group O (RNA) HIV 2 (RNA) HCV (DNA) HBV (DNA) (5) MPX PCR uses several gene specific primers (forward and reverse strands) within a reaction mix. Internal controls are present within the testing kit, making the process highly efficient. By combining several tests on one platform, this is a very lean method testing; however there is a small risk of cross hybridisation due to the volume of different primers used (5,6). An added benefit of using RT PCR to screen viral targets is that they shorten the detection window period of some viruses. This means, even if a viral marker can be detected serologically ... AIDS is a severe form of HIV in which someone s immune system is completely destroyed; HIV is a virus that affects the immune system. In other words, you can have HIV without AIDS, but if you have AIDS, then you automatically have HIV. The origin of HIV is disputed between scientists; some have theorized that it was passed down from apes and somehow transferred between humans. HIV attacks the bloodstream and eliminates the body s CD4 cells, which essential for countering diseases and infections. Without these cells, the human body is vulnerable to viruses and diseases. Once inside one s body, the HIV virus first replicates and spreads itself using the CD4 cells; then the CD4 cells are destroyed. Once the CD4 have been destroyed, a person s immune system has been greatly weakened that even a simple cold or fever can nearly kill them. Due to this, the human body cannot counter diseases and illnesses due to the destruction of the CD4 cells and the weakened state of the immune system. HIV and AIDS is spread and contracted by humans in a variety of ways. HIV/AIDS is spread when bodily fluids, such as saliva, breast milk, and blood, are exchanged from human to human. With Reverend Rosemary Carey s departure at the end of Term Two, the life of the chapel was placed in the hands of the teaching staff for Term Three, with valiant efforts to continue the spiritual dimension of the school. While no doubt the experience was enjoyed by staff and students alike, the words uttered to me by one staff member as I left my first chapel service, Thank God you re here , suggest there is an appreciation for the unique challenges of the role. These challenges are what I have been discovering as I have gone, very quickly, through our final term of 2017. Essay about Joseph Conrad s The Women of Heart of Darkness Joseph Conrad s The Women of Heart of Darkness The novella Heart of Darkness illustrates readers with three different types of depictions that men had of women during the late 1800 s; also known as the imperialistic era. These depictions were as follows; the naive woman, the mistress, and the wealthy widow. The naïve woman was personified by Kurtz intended. The mistress was personified by the native African woman. The wealthy widow is personified by Marlow s aunt. This assumption can be made on various levels. The most obvious level is how Joseph Conrad never gave these characters names. The small part that she has in this novella she manages to sound like a naïve woman. The second character that we are introduced to is Kurtz s African mistress. The mistress is a beautiful woman who seems to evoke some sort of control over the men. Whenever she is mentioned the men just stand there as if in awe. She never speaks in the novella. During the late 1800 s it was acceptable for men to have mistress , I believe that is what Conrad tried to show. That s why Kurtz s intended never questioned why he was taking so long. She probably knew he had a mistress and couldn t really say anything against it. The mistress managed to gain some type of control over Kurtz, and that is why he hadn t left yet. Even Marlow was in awe when he saw the beautiful native woman with jewelry on. Perhaps she was a wealthy woman, and that s why the people respected her. The last female character that I will examine is Marlow s aunt. She is perhaps a wealthy widow, who also has nothing better to do with her money. She believes strongly on the topic of imperialism. She thinks that it helps people progress. She was the one who got Marlow this opportunity. Marlow s aunt is the combination of both characters. She was naïve and controlling at the same time. Conrad probably used this character to show readers how older women were in the past. Its amazing to see how men stereotyped women in the past it hasn t ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Uniquely, as someone new to the film industry, he retained full creative control of his very first project, co writing, producing, directing, and starring as Kane himself. Studios usually had large sets of lights above the the set to illuminate the scene, but with the low camera angles used, the lighting had to come from other sources, primarily atmospheric lighting. The presence of lighting and how it is used in Citizen Kane is unique and was influenced greatly by the low camera angles used, but after eliminating the overhead lighting effects afforded by not having a ceiling, Welles and Toland used this absence of light to their advantage. The use of focused light to illuminate the subject of a shot in deep focus still allowed the viewer to pick out whatever he wanted to see, but the director still had control over that focus using lighting and shadows. Shadows played a particularly strong part in Citizen Kane. A notable scene is when the opera ends and Kane alone is standing to applaud. In this scene Kane is backlit so we see his shadow standing out in stark contrast to those around him who remain seated. As mentioned before, the Cowboys have 5 Super Bowl titles and that gives the team a legendary aura every time they step out on the field. This allows their fan base to be very large, consistent and proud to be part of the franchise. Along with that strength though, comes a weakness. The history of the Cowboys is a history of excellence and winning which is hard to hold and be consistent with in the NFL. Winning three Super Bowl titles in four years is a hard mark to reach but ever since that accomplishment the Cowboys have been nowhere near replicating that achievement. This paper outlines the argument of labour as a fictious commodity using Polanyi s work. This paper first define what commodity is and what fictitious commodity is before going into deep details of this topic. Conclusions have been drawn base on the main core of the topic and critiques of fictitious commodity by Polanyi. First, a commodity is a good or service that is actively produced for sale in a labour process. A commodity can result from peasant, petty commodity, state production, cooperative production, or social enterprise as well as capitalist production what matters is its production for sale (Polanyi 2001, 71). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Polanyi nonetheless highlights that while labour, land, and money are essential to the market economy; the fact is that they are not commodities, in the sense that they are not objects produced for sale on the market. As Polanyi points out, labour is another name for a human activity which goes with life itself, which in its turn is not produced for sale but for entirely different reasons, nor can that activity be detached from the rest of life, be stored or mobilized (Polanyi 2001, 75). Similarly, land is another name for nature, which is not produced by man ; while money is merely a token of purchasing power which, as a rule, is not produced at all, but comes into being through the mechanism of banking or state finance (Polanyi 2001, 75). To include these fictitious commodities in the market mechanism means to subordinate the substance of society itself to the laws of the market (Polanyi 2001, 75). For Polanyi (2001. 76), this would inevitably result on the demolishing of society. The commodity description of labor is entirely fictitious Polanyi s critique goes to the core of neoclassical economics and its claims about equilibrium prices and self regulation. The first reason is due to horses that cannot be used anymore due to health reasons.
