The Pros And Cons Of Ethanoline
Gas is an invaluable commodity in today s society. It is used in everything from cars, to
lawnmowers, to generators, to boats. Everyone uses it, but what exactly goes into it besides oil?
One of the answers to this is ethanol. Ethanol has been going into gasoline since the 1920 s and
was widely used during WWII (Gustafson, 2010). Ethanol gasoline became popular in the 1970
s due to the climbing prices of gasoline (Gustafson, 2010). The high price of gasoline was a result
of oil shortages because of production cuts by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.
(The Washington Times, 2006). The reason a rise in prices and a shortage of oil led to adding
ethanol to gasoline was because ethanol was an easily and cheaply created (Gustafson,... Show more

Microbially influenced corrosion is the biologically mediated deterioration of material
(Williamson et al, 2015). This includes the microbial production of organic acids, like acetic acid
(Williamson et al, 2015). Normally, ethanol would kill bacteria, but there are some cases where it
becomes a carbon donor for the creation of acids (Williamson et al, 2015). This is what happens in
the gas tanks under gas stations that creates the acetic acid that corrodes the

The Effects Of Deferred Imitation During The Sensorimotor...
Imitation and observational learning are important in aiding the attainment and portrayal of new
behaviours, beginning as early as infancy (Meltzoff, 1993, p. 467). Deferred imitation and
mental representations were concepts by developmental psychologist Jean Piaget in his theory of
infant cognitive development. Deferred imitation refers to a child s ability to imitate the actions
that they have seen others perform, following a delay, (Slater, Lewis, Anzures Lee, 2011). Piaget
proposed that the emergence of deferred imitation during the sensorimotor period, is a sign of
mental representation, (Jones Herbert, 2009, para. 14). His proposal of the formation of this
ability has been accredited by several studies that document the presence of deferred imitation in
infants from as early as birth to 24 months of age and beyond (Barr, Dowden, Hayne, 1996;
Heimann Meltzoff, 1996). A study by Heimann and Schaller (1985) used infants between 14 21
days old, (p.33). The mother was told to either protrude her tongue or open her mouth while the
infant was engaged and observing during the exposure sessions, (p. 33). Two observers scored each
infant on the number of times they opened their mouth or protruded their tongue, depending on the
groups they were assigned to within the 60 second response period, (p.33). The results showed that
the total number of tongue protrusions or mouth openings were highest when the behaviours were
modelled to the infant, (p. 36). To reproduce the

Dr Heidegger s Experiment Symbolism
Nathaniel Hawthorne, born in 1804, was a Dark Romanticist known for his writing about the sins
and downfalls of humanity. His short story, Dr. Heidegger s Experiment, written in 1837, is about
Dr. Heidegger, an old man, who invites four of his old friends to try his latest experiment, his
elixir. Heidegger tempts his guest by stating the elixir is from the Fountain of Youth. The doctor
shows his guests how the elixer makes a dead rose come alive. He claims the elixir will make them
young again. After drinking the elixir, his guest return to their old sins that they committed when
they were young and naive. Dr. Heidegger s Experiment by Nathaniel Hawthorneis an example of

Heidegger s Experiment s most fascinating literary features is the characters that Hawthorne
establishes, and the ideas they evoke. Each of the four guest, Colonel Killigrew, Mr. Medbourne,
Mr. Gascoigne, and Widow Wycherley, are invented symbols that each portray a different human
vice or sin. In his youth, Colonel Killigrew was a merchant who lost all his money. Mr.
Medbourne wasted his youth perusing sinful pleasures. Mr. Gascoigne was a corrupt politician
with a horrible reputation. Widow Wycherly, in her prime, was a beautiful woman who became a
recluse because of scandalous stories that were spread about her. When they were given the chance
to change their ways, they couldn t do it. But they were young: their burning passions proved them
so. Inflamed to madness by the coquetry of the girl widow ... the three rivals began to interchange
threatening glances. ... They grappled fiercely at one another s throats. As they struggled to and fro,
the table was overturned, and the vase dashed into a thousand fragments (Hawthorne). Hawthorne
is illustrating how powerful sin can be. When they drank the elixir, and had a second chance, they
wasted it. The men fell for the Widow s beauty and turned on each other. Hawthorne is trying to
symbolize sin and the powers of temptation by having each guest fall into the trap of their

Hank Gray Family
The Conglomerate Entrepreneur A family s purpose is teach children morals as they are raised.
Entrepreneurship is often an overlooked trait that is deeply rooted in family values. An
entrepreneur is defined as a person who starts a business and is willing to risk loss in order to
make money (Merriam Webster). Not everyone is meant, or is willing, to be one, but most
successful entrepreneurs have a lot of their good habits originating from their childhoods.
Therefore, parents should give opportunities and promote entrepreneurship, if their child is one of
the few people cut out to be an entrepreneur.
Both of the people I interviewed, Hank Gray and Babe Hyett, were entrepreneurs. Hank Gray
was seeking a long term career when he was offered to buyout a machine shop from an older
man. After accepting the offer, Hank expected developed the company and eventually named it
Gray Machine and Welding. The business has not only provided a great career for him, but also
for his son who now manages the company. When I asked Hank what his family contributed to
his success, he said his father taught him how to work, be responsible, and be honest. These
traits he held true to and his business has grown over the years by word of mouth. Hank is a good
example of a person who did his best at everything, and as a result, never had to look for work after
he started his business.

School Needs Assessment And Community Conversations
School needs assessment and community conversations This was definitely a much hard task to
complete than I had anticipated from the beginning. The thought by me was some research and
I should be able to find then necessary information. However, the simple fact that as a private
school system, we do not need to do a lot of these public school state mandated items. I looked
for a long while and was finally excited to find a school needs assessment for Wahlert. Two
things jumped out at me at as I started to read: 1. the name of the school was Wahlert and not
Wahlert Catholic which meant that it was older than 8 years. 2. It was for Wahlert and not Holy
Family which meant it predated 2001. The actual date was 1999 and was really no help since a
lot of things have changed since then. Further exploration led me to find the math, reading, and
science testing data for our system and for Wahlert. Along with that, I was able to find our
demographic breakdown for the schools in the system. The information was really basic as I
compared it to the Dubuque Community Schools on the same Iowa government website. This did
allow me to compare the scores for math, science, and reading between ourselves and the public
schools. This was at least so form of community conversation as our local paper published the data
as well. Though, most of the time the private schools will be slightly mention or mentioned on
another day so as to not lead to comparisons being drawn between the

Analysis Of Barabara Enrenreich s Nickel And Dimed
If a business wants to maximize their profit, one might up the cost of products and cut employee
salary. If a business wants to keep the price of products low and steady, one may earn a lower
profit, but keep a higher employee salary. If a business wants to raise the wages of employees,
one might lose profit by keeping a high price on products. Is it possible to have all three perks?
Yes, you bet. Companies that simultaneously maximize profit, keep products at a low price, and
pay fair employee wages do exist, are growing, and should be models for the future business. In
Barabara Enrenreich s Nickel and Dimed , Enrenreich worked a variety of jobs in a variety of
locations. Key West, Florida; Portland, Maine; and Minneapolis, Minnesota came job
opportunities ranging from serving food to housekeeping to retail and more. She first worked in
Florida and among the three jobs she took, her highest pay was bout $7.50 an hour. Secondly,
she worked in Portland as a maid and her pay was $6.65 an hour. Lastly she worked in a
Minneapolis Wal Mart for $7.00 an hour. The journey does not improve for Enrenreich.
Unfortunately, she did not get to experience working for a company that paid employees a fair wage
while maximizing company profit. Her different locations and different jobs each had the focus of
maximizing profit, with little to no care about the comfort of the employee. The book does not
touch the subject of positively, equally balanced business; however, there is research

Literary Analysis over One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest Essay
LITERARY ANALYSIS One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest is a novel written by Ken Kesey
during a time in our society when pressures of our modern world seemed at their greatest. Many
people were, at this time, deemed by society s standards to be insane and institutionalized. One
Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest is set in a ward of a mental institution. The major conflict in the novel
is that of power. Power is a recurring and overwhelming theme throughout the novel. Kesey shows
the power of women who are associated with the patients, the power Nurse Ratched has, and also
the power McMurphy fights to win. By default, he also shows how little power the patients have.

Laughter makes the patients feel good, and, specifically, Bromden feels good and begins to
remember other things that made him feel good (Tanner 4). McMurphy s power in laughter is
intensified by Nurse Ratched s lack of laughter. McMurphy s laughter and humor are genuine
while Nurse Ratched s humor is forced and smiles are chiseled like in plastic (Wallace 3, 5).
Power enables McMurphy to make changes on the ward and to survive in the institution. His
sanity compared to the other patients, his manipulations, and his ability to laugh give him the
power. He, in turn, gives patients a sense of power by teaching them to laugh at themselves,
Nurse Ratched, and the world (Magill 1533). Second in a discussion of power are the women
associated with the patients. The supervisor at the hospital is associated with the patients by
controlling who is employed to take care of the patients. Nurse Ratched and the supervisor
served in the Army together as nurses. They are still very close and have a good relationship.
Because of this relationship, Nurse Ratched s employment is secured and others won t stand up
to her for fear of losing their own jobs. Harding states In this hospital, the doctor doesn t hold the
power of hiring and firing. That power goes to the supervisor and the supervisor is a woman, a dear
old friend of Miss Ratched s (61). The receptionist on the ward is Nurse Ratched s neighbor

The genre of rap was born from a simple experiment. On an August night in 1973, Dj Kool Herc

skyrocketed it into fame and popularity. No artist experienced the rap life more than Tupac 2Pac

Brenda s Got a Baby (peaked at #11 on Hot 100 R B/ Hip hop charts). When reviewed by Source
Magazine the album was seen as an expression of Tupac s struggles as an impoverished black
male from the inner city area of America. Although this approach to the industry wasn t one that
gave him a jump start like the radio heavy songs of his competition during that era, it did hold
truth and leave a mark on those that heard it. The Source Magazine Following a slightly ignored,
but successful run in acting Tupac would produce Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z his second studio

would reach very high posts of on the Hot 100 R B and Pop charts. Keep Ya Head up would
show a different side of Tupac and would begin to reveal the contradictions within his own life.
Among Tupac s list of hits and memorable tracks Tupac was no stranger to the law. In 1992
Shakur was arrested on charges regarding a stray bullet hitting a 6 year old during a scuffle
between Shakur and two others. Ultimately, this case would be

the infamous Nazis in an attempt to exterminate them. The German youth were as well as taken in

In the article By The History Place Adolf Hitler blamed the Jewish people for the loss of World
War II. He used many tactics to persuade public opinion to favor his anti Semitic ideas. The tough
conditions placed on the German people caused by the loss of World War II left many bitter. The
German people became desperate for a solution to solve the economic depression. Hitler used this
to his advantage by promising people change in the country. Hitler promised to make the country

Hitler insisted that the Aryan race was descended to become a master race that had the right to

Social Issues In Northanger Abbey, By Jane Austen
Northanger Abbey is a classic written by Jane Austen. The novel is celebrated as a literary
masterpiece that deals with the English social class system, along with the social rules and it
shows the results of choices made by the characters. The story follows Catherine Morland, a girl
who is heavily influenced by books, but is also very naГЇve to the outside world. Catherine lives in
the modest town of Fullerton, and her life there has been mostly very protected and sheltered from
lifestyles and habits of people outside of Fullerton. The Morlands are friends with another family
named the Allen s. They are wealthy members of society, and they extend an invitation to take
Catherine with them to Bath, which is a wealthy area for families that meet that clientele. Because

War, By Kate Daniels
While flipping through a historical magazine, a viewer observes the pictures of destroyed villages,
fields covered in debris or bodies, and survivors walking around shocked by what they just
experienced. Then one picture catches the eye. There is a screaming, naked girl running towards
the camera. The girl is young, thin and helpless. She is runningfrom the bombs and the black smoke
in the background. There are soldiers on the sidelines walkingwith their heads down. Viewers
cannot exactly pinpoint what the photo is telling them, but the image lingers in their minds for a
little while pondering how something so awful could have happened to that girl or why events, like
this one, take place. In both the photograph, Trang Bang, and the Poem, War, by Kate Daniels,
there are many ideas to think about. One idea is the distribution of power. Many times the idea of
power is elusive and can lead readers to misinterpret the art piece s true intentions. In the
photograph and the poem readers observe that the running naked child seems to be powerless
over the situation she is experiencing. Even though the readers may imagine themselves as
powerless as well, they are not actually powerless; they are powerful. Through the poem, readers
begin to see their role, as readers, that they play in the event and the power that they encompass to
be able to read and live in a world where they do have these capabilities. By recognizing the power
that readers can act and make decisions, they

How Does Sediment Build Up Affect The Heater
DRAINING NOW PREVENTS FUTURE PROBLEMS Draining your hot water heater is just as
important as changing oil in your car or keeping the correct air pressure in your tires. Properly
maintaining your hot water heater can prevent many problems in the future. Why is draining the
water so important? Regardless of where you live, your water has minerals in it, including calcium
carbonate. The mineral content in water will vary from one place to another, and the concentration
level varies as well. As the water enters the hot water heater, the heat causes the minerals to
precipitate out from the water causing the sediment to settle in the bottom of the tank. This settling
builds up over time and causes serious problems. How does sediment buildup affect the heater?...

Essay on Examining the Pathetique Sonata
Examining The Pathetique Sonata At the start of the nineteenth century, the world of music made a
transition from the Classic Period of composition to what is now known as the Romantic Era.
Composers experimented with more expressive and songlike melodies while pianists developed
higher skill levels to match the increased technical demands of the pieces. One man who embodied
this particular transitional period was Ludwig van Beethoven. Beethoven was one of the first
composers to stray from traditional forms of music and incorporate a broader range of pitch and
dynamics into his compositions. In 1798 Beethoven composed the Sonata No. 8 in C Minor, which
incorporates many romantic elements of music. Often referred to as The... Show more content on

The theme begins quietly in piano, but tension builds as the left hand rumbles back and forth
between octaves. A subtle crescendo eventually leads to a stunning virtuoso passage that
incorporates the use of a cross hand technique and modulates into the key of E flat major. This key
change is carried over throughout the remainder of the exposition and into the closing, which is
typical of the sonata allegro from. What makes this first movement unique is the fact that the
introductory Grave theme is repeated both at the beginning of the development section and in the
coda. This was not typical of pieces written during the late eighteenth century and proved to be one
of Beethoven s initial experiments with the sonata allegro form. The second movement of
Beethoven s eighth sonata entitled Adagio cantabile is strikingly different from the fast pace and
thundering themes of the first movement. It opens with eight bars of a beautiful and delicate
melody that most people can readily identify. It is this songlike melody of the second movement
that many romantic composers attempted to emulate in their compositions. After the introduction
of this melody, the movement progresses in a traditional rondo form as new themes are introduced,
and the initial melody is repeated. The initial theme is written in the key of A flat and is repeated a
total of three times during the movement. It is followed the first time by a theme beginning in the

Motorcycle, Membership, And Belonging Summary And Analysis
Kinship is an area we talked about extensively in class because it represents a huge part of many
people s lives. This ideal is found throughout and delegates the lives of many individuals
throughout thousands of cultures. In Motorcycles, Membership, and Belonging McCurdy says
that if an Indian couple were to come to the United States for the first time they might be,
surprised by [the lack of] American social relations. (McCurdy 2014:209) In this essay I will be
describing how American views on kinship and social relations vary from those of Indians through
both personal experience and learned information. First lets highlight what kind of roles kinship
and social relations play in the lives of these potential Indian tourists. Kinship groups, to Indians,
are an essential part of life; kinship is something that makes various decisions for an individuals
life, some of those include: who you marry, what you inherit, and your level of status in the family.
Throughout most of India, people use patrilineal descent to establish kinship; this means that
only males are part of the descent group. In this kind of descent extended family is an integral
part of an individuals life because many generations all live together under one roof. For
example, one may grow up in a household with their grandparents, uncles and their wives and
children, and even older brother s wives and kids. This way of life keeps familial land and
resources all under one roof rather than spreading

Father Son Relationship In Night By Elie Wiesel
Luke, I am Your Father The relationship between fathers and their sons is an unbreakable bond.
Every man who finds out his spouse is having a baby, wishes for a son. All throughout history, sons
carried on the family name and honor, and parts of that honor system still remain today. This
unspoken bond between father and sonleads to many other aspects of the relationship. A son feels
a responsibility to care for his father when he is ailing, because the father does the same for him.
These themes resound in Elie Wiesel s novel Night which was written about Wiesel s experiences in
Nazi concentration camps. This novel revolves around the father/son relationship in which Eliezer
experiences first hand and witnesses from afar.

Eliezer was horrified by the thought, let alone to witness it with his own eyes. Eliezer fought
with tooth and nail to be able to keep his father close and alive. Other men just abandoned their
fathers as if they were merely a burden. After long hours of running and marching towards a
different concentration camp, the prisoners were finally able to take a break. Several prisoners
died that night from exhaustion. When it was time to leave, Eliezer describes the scene by
saying, The dead remained in the yard, under the snow without even a marker, like fallen
guards....Sons abandoned the remains of their fathers without a tear, (Pg 92). Elie was horrified
by this sight and was thankful that his father was still alive. The only reason neither Elie or his
father passed away that night was because they watched out for one another to make sure they
did not pass away. That is an incredible bond. Elie was always watching out for his father, and

Winn v. Trans World Air
There are many factors that go into the hiring process for businesses, but one factor should not
be discrimination. I believe that if you are best qualified for the job then it should be yours. I
know if it was my company I would want the most qualified person working for me. With me
being in the military it makes it hard to argue these points because we need to be diverse. My
friend was up for promotion to Sergeant First Class last year; it was his first time getting looked
at for Sergeant First Class. He had done everything in his power to stand out from his peers.
Only 10 people were looked at for promotion in his career field and he was one of them. He knew
who his competition was and what they have done since being in the military. Knowing he had
more board points than the others he felt confident that he was going to get promoted. When the
list finally came out it showed that 2 out of the 10 made it. He was sure one of the names was
his. To his disbelief his name was not on it. He was very discouraged and felt like there was
nothing else he could have done better to make himself more competitive. When he was searching
to find out who had made the list he noticed 2 females made it. With research he found out they
had not been in as long or had any special assignments, or leadership time. This was upsetting to
know that the military has to promote based on gender and race. I always thought and believed a

U.S. Involvement in 1st Persian Gulf War
One of the good things about the way the Gulf War ended in 1991 is, you d see the Vietnam
veterans marching with the Gulf War veterans (George H. W. Bush). President Bush stated that the
Persian Gulf Warwas not fully supported by the soldiers who fought in the war. Gulf War
veterans marched like Vietnam veterans because they also viewed the war as unjustified. Persian
Gulf War veterans would say, American soldiers lost their lives for oil. The first Persian Gulf War
started from August 2, 1990 and ended on February 28, 1991. This war began by the invasion of
Kuwait by Iraq. During this invasion some of the oil fields of Kuwait were set on fire and some of
the oil spilled to the Persian Gulf. The Persian Gulf was the oil supplier for western countries. So
anything happened to the Persian Gulf, the western countries will naturally react. The factors that
led to The United States involvement in the first Persian Gulf War included Saddam Hussein s
invasion of Kuwait, his control over a sizable share of the world s oil reserves and his power over
the economies of the world. Many Americans believe that the first Persian Gulf War was not
necessary for the United States.
On August 2, 1990, Iraqi leader, Saddam Hussein, attacked Kuwait as a result of overproduction of
oil in Kuwait, which had cost Iraq an estimated $14 billion a year when oil process of obtaining the

A Summer That Shocked The Nation

HIST 104A
1964: a Summer That Shocked the Nation
The 1960 s was a time like no other in American history. Racial tension between African Americans
and white, middle class citizens had plagued the country. Animosity towards African Americans
was aggressive throughout the south and did not show signs of letting up. Alongside rising racial
tensions, fear of communism put many on edge, which gave Americans more of a reason to use
blacks as a scapegoat to blame for occurring issues. At the time, white Americans in the south
perceived African Americans as inferior, regardless of if they were technically free . The strong
contempt towards the black community lead to widespread oppression of African Americans...

Doing this gave the African Americancommunity more power and voice. Standing united
allowed these activist groups to implement their individual goals and place them all under the
same branch. One major goal included black voter registration lead by Bob Moses and Tom
Gaither (44). They believed that blacks had been disenfranchised by the Jim crow laws and other
laws hindering their voter registration abilities. Voter registration forms made it nearly impossible
for uneducated black Americans to register, often using trick questions (41). A majority of blacks
did not feel comfortable registering to vote due to the potential repercussions. They would often be
persecuted and harassed by locals and often were blacklisted or outed in the local newspapers if
attempted to register. The act of fear instilled in many blacks throughout the south prevented them
from registering. Moses and Gaither along with SNCC volunteers, helped this issue by going to
local communities throughout Mississippi, motivating locals and the community by building local
leaders. SNCC activist Charles McLaurin even stated By getting the people together they will see
that they are not alone... (49). Going into communities and motivating locals to register helped
many blacks overcome their fears and aided the snowball effect of black voter registration.
Creation of local leaders gave hope to many black southerners showing them that

Limitations Of Public Education
Empowered or Limited When it comes to the topic of education, most of us will readily agree that
receiving an education is necessary and important to daily life. Where this agreement usually ends,
however, is on the question of limitations. Whereas some are convinced that public education limits
it students, others maintain that it empowers them. My own view is that public educationlimits
students because there is a lack of autonomy, a focus on segregation, and a very real pressure to
succeed. The standard way of thinking about education is to believe that it empowers students,
however some argue that it actually limits a student s individuality. In his essay Against School,
John Gatto demonstrates how the public educational system places limitations on its students.
Gatto is an award winning educator and has taught in public schools for almost twenty years.
According to Gatto, We could encourage the best qualities of youthfulness.... simply by being
more flexible about time, text, and tests....and by giving each student what autonomy he or she
needs in order to take a risk every now and then. But we don t do that. (Gatto p. 115). In other
words, public education has the ability to empower students, but because of the strict structure,
focus on testing, and lack of autonomy, it is more restricting than empowering. Many people
assume that students going to an IVY league school are the brightest of their peers when it comes
to academics. When given an inside look at these prestigious, best of the best institutions, we
encounter something different than what we expect. William Deresiewicz attended Columbia
University and was a professor at Yale, and he sates, most of them seemed content to color within
the lines that their education has marked out for them. Very few were passionate about ideas.
(Deresiewicz p. 203). Deresiewicz s point is that IVY League students aren t very willing to go
beyond that which they have been taught in the classroom. What s the purpose of separating these
students from their peers, who may not be as gifted academically, if they do not take their
education beyond what they are formally taught. Segregation does not happen just at the college
level, but also at

Ecological Benefits Of Forest Fires
Forest Fires Forest fires are part of nature that will always keep on occurring, and they can be
very disastrous. In fact most forest fires are started by humans, when they don t know it.
However, forest fires are necessary for plants health, by offering many ecological benefits. There
are also actual forests fires that are permitted to burn that are not fought for that purpose. Then
again, if forest fires occur and are not permitted, firefighters need to take action in their many
ways. Therefore, forests fires often start by humans, has many ecological benefits, and are
fought in many ways. Ecological Benefits Many people think of forest fires as bad and
disastrous as figure 1 shows, but what they don t know is that forest fires have great benefits to
the environment. Some say that large forest fires are like shots of adrenaline that stimulate
biodiversity (Robbins). Without these fires many plants would not be able to grow in their
natural way. Those fires recycle nutrients, and create substances that plants need for growth.
Fires also clear trees and some vegetation that can prevent new tree growth. In fact, some species
of Pine and Oak trees grow best when forest fires occur (Parker). Also, some tree species need
very high temperatures for their seeds to sprout (Cooper). Foresters can actually permit certain
forest fires to occur due to all the ecological benefits. These fires are set by firemen in safe
conditions far from human life with low winds and high humidity

a. Both. Based on what is presented. She has JVD an indication of right sided failure because the
heart is unable to pump the massive amount of fluid coming from the body to the right side of the
heart. There is too much fluid for the right ventricle to pump into the pulmonary arteries. And
because of the A fib, it is not being pumped efficiently.

Bullet Containing Embedded Metal Fragments
Wounds containing embedded metal fragments are not a recent phenomenon. However, the
introduction of unique metal mixtures to the modern battlefield, as well as the insurgents use of
improvised explosive devices, have resulted in the potential of embedded fragment wounds with
materials whose toxicological properties are not well understood. The Armed Forces Radiobiology
Research Institute was one of the first laboratories to study the long term health effects of
embedded fragments of military relevant metals. Responding to concerns over the effects of
wounds containing depleted uranium, the Institute developed a rodent model system to investigate
this issue. As additional unique metal mixtures were incorporated into weapons systems, the... Show

One aspect that did not change was the use of lead in ammunition. In the 1900s other metals and
metal mixtures were used to produce munitions. In response to the increased range of firearms and
the military requirement to defeat hardened targets, copper, tungsten carbide, and steel found their
way into munitions. Advances in medical care also resulted in increased survival rate of wounded
individuals, many of whom now carried embedded metal fragments in their bodies. Standard
surgical guidelines recommended leaving embedded fragments in place, unless they could be
easily removed, to lessen the collateral tissue damage that surgery can inflict. In addition, there
were few indications reported in the scientific literature to indicate that embedded metal fragments
left in place were a health hazard in either the short or long term. There were, however, the
occasional reports of adverse health effects resulting from the long time retention of lead fragments
(Stromberg, 1990; Eylon et al., 2005). The effects were usually attributed to the solubilization of
lead from the fragments, as symptoms usually abated once the fragment was surgically removed
(Linden et al., 1982; Beazley and Rosenthal, 1984; Magos, 1994; Gerhardsson et al., 2002).

Bodybuilding Nutrition And Nutrition
Bodybuilding Nutrition
Bodybuilding is a sport where men and women s goal is to achieve a symmetrical and muscular
physique with low body fat percentages, usually in order to win a competition. Many factors go into
reaching these goals such as resistant training, genetics, mental will power and nutrition. While all
of these factors are important to a bodybuilder, nutrition seems to be one of the most important,
most researched and most tested and manipulated branch of the bodybuilders lifestyle. Specifically,
the effects of protein on a bodybuilder, the ideal macronutrient ratios (carbs, fat, and protein) for fat
loss and muscle maintenance. and nutrition s effect on resistance training recovery have been
studies to further optimize a bodybuilders physique.
The important yet controversial topic of optional protein intake has been a hot topic for years in
many areas such as the needs for sedentary induvial, sports athletes, Olympic athletes and
bodybuilders. However it is generally agreed upon that while the RDA standard of .75 .80 g/kg
of body weight a day is enough to keep those with physical activities in there day to day life in a
positive nitrogen balance, this is not the case for bodybuilders due to their goals of increasing
muscle mass and intense training. (Masedu, Ziruolo, Valenti, Di Giulio, 2012) A more beneficial
protein intake for bodybuilders should sit around 1.7 2.2 g/kg of body weight a day if the induvial
wants to see optimal results with regards to

Confirmation as a Sacrament
Sacraments are actions, and they function as rituals: they repeat gestures and words that are
meaningful to those who perceive them. Sacraments affect more than the thoughts and feelings of
participants because they have to be understood psychologically and theologically.
There are seven sacraments in Catholicism: Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage, The Eucharist,
Penance, Anointing the Sick and Holy Orders. People learn and remember and they remember from
practice of prayer and of the involvement and preparation of the sacraments. (Martos 2009). These

Baptism is very important, in the East, it would be very difficult for a bishop to give every
baptism; the priest performs the confirmation using the chrism consecrated by the Bishop.
In the West, there is a separation of time between Baptism and Confirmation. Bishops give
confirmation after Baptism and only when a child reaches the age of reason. In the West, The
desire to reserve the completion of Baptism to the Bishop caused a separation between the two
sacraments. He can do so only with the approval of the Bishop.
From 1291 1292, the Roman Church conducted Confirmation by a double anointing with sacred oil
after Baptism. The first anointing new person on coming out of the baptismal bath performed by
priest, then completed by second appointing on the forehead by newly baptized by the Bishop. In
addition, Easter in Church gave greater emphasis on the unity of Confirmation as a Christian
initiation. Latin Church clearly expresses the communion of the new Christian with Bishop as

The Two Franks and Their Architecture Essay
Different architects have different styles because they are trying to get at different things.
Architecture is not just about making something beautiful anymore, it is about trying to get across
a set of ideas about how we inhabit space. Two of the most famous architects of the twentieth
century, one from each side, the early part and the later part up until today each designed a
museum with money donated by the Guggenheim foundation. One of these is in New York City, it
was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The other is in bilbao, Spain, and it was designed by Frank
Geary. My purpose of this paper is to interrogate each of these buildings, glorious for different

This is a very functional approach. I am only going to talk about the outside of Frank Geary s
museum because I have never been there, and I have only seen pictures on the internet. This
building is surprisingly attractive because the other building that we saw in class of his, his
house in Santa Monica, had a great deal of ugliness, to use an official term. His house in Santa
Monica was supposed to look unfinished, with an emphasis on the materials used in
construction. This building, however, looks as if it has been wrapped in silver. It looks very
futuristic, and angular, so it could be functional as a museum as a museum because people will
know it holds modern art. I like the way that it catches reflections, almost mirroring the
surrounding buildings. So, in these two examples we see very different approaches to
architecture. One has an impressive inside and the other one has an appealing outside. Also, both
seem to be departures for the architects from their normal modes Wright s building doesn t blend
in with nature, and Geary s doesn t look deconstructed into small parts. Now if only they could has
worked together on one project, then we would have a museum that would be perfect inside and
out. The Falling Water House that was built by Frank Lloyd Wright is an embodiment of organic
architecture. It has a stone face that was the same tonal feeling of the rock that surrounds the

Political influences mainly affect Starbucks through government imposed minimum wage
fluctuations. Their workers are trained to perform few tasks such as coffee making, food
preparation and cashiering. With such few job functions, there is hardly a need for highly
experienced or educated employees. This would allow Starbucks to pay their workers at minimum
wage or just slightly higher, making Starbucks very sensitive towards increasing the minimum wage
of their workers as that would increase labour costs. Other political influences that can affect
Starbucks profits are regulatory and licensing restriction, government rent control, tax base
determination and labor laws.
The increasing demand of food and beverage services causes Starbucks rapid economic
environment growth. Starbucks greatest concern is its relationship with its coffee bean producers.
Nations producing coffee are influential on coffee purchasing companies. This is because coffee
is the world s second largest traded supply, and prices of coffee beans are being subject to
significant market volatility. Starbucks demands for premium green coffee beans, resulting in
irregular pricing and are usually sold at negotiated prices. Starbucks greatest concern is that the
producers would ally and artificially make the coffee prices inflate (Diedrich, 1999).

Positive And Negative Attributes In Lord Of The Flies
Positive attributes can propel people to success, however, when one s negative attribute is
prominent it can lead to the start of their downfall. In the novel The Lord of the Flies, written by
William Golding, there are many characters with strong personalities. While being trapped on an
island the situations may not always go as planned. A leader is needed to keep things in line but
as one knows Jack and Ralph fought head to head for power. From the novel it is clear that
Ralph is a natural leader, uses common sense, and is charismatic, Jack on the other hand wanted
power, didn t always use his common sense, and is also charismatic. Those are examples of a few
of Ralph and Jack s positive and negative attributes.
Throughout the novel both characters, Ralph and Jack have a thirst for power. One may say
that Jack is a stronger leader due to his persuasiveness with his need for power, but on the other
hand Ralph is a great natural leader. From the beginning Ralph shows interest in getting home
while leading the group of boys. Ralph may be young but he seems to have a general idea on
how to get the group going in the right direction. He has an innate ability to split the group up
and give them the important tasks that need to be done to survive for several days for example:
tending to the fire, and hunting which was Jack and the choirboys job. To be a good leader you
must stay positive which Ralph is able to do majority of the time by persistently believing that

Summary Of Devil s Arithmetic By Jane Yolen
Author s Purpose Tone
By:Vianey Rojas
The death camps were horrid and prestigious about the Jews.Treating people like they are any less.
In the two divergent pieces of the Holocaust composition inform their audience with very similar
purposes. Yet both have contrast tones. In The Devil s Arithmetic,by Jane Yolen, stridulous
conditions are happening in the death camps. Yolen s purpose of writing Devil s Arithmetic is that
she is persuading us with her prestige and acknowledgement for Jewish traditions and for the
impeccability of the the Jews and their coping with history. In Peter Fischl poem To the Little
Polish Boy Standing With His Arms Up, is about an individual boy standing in a ghetto. Fischl s
purpose is that he informs us to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This displays that Jane Yolen was influenced by experience of the camps and about the holocaust
,therefore empowering others to act upon the truth. This is important because she is convincing us
about what happens in the atrocious death camps. This contributes to Jane Yolen s tone of
compassion throughout the book because she knows that Jews have been through so much agony
and despair in the camps. They have sacrificed so much just to be alive. This shows prodigious
courage. Yolen also states, We forget because remembering is too painful. (Pg.163). This portrays
on how she feel on the Holocaust and that she can feel from experience how appalling it must feel.
Yolen approaches this as a dreadful time with unending benevolence, compassion, and

Questions 1.What sort of environment (hypotonic, hypertonic, isotonic) did the extra fertilizer

Meanwhile, elsewhere in Habersham County, Tom was feeling slightly nervous as he exited the
staff lounge and entered the hustle and bustle of County Hospital s ER to begin his first shift as an
RN. The first few hours of his shift passed slowly as Tom mostly checked vital signs and listened
to patients complain about various aches, pains, coughs, and sniffles. He realized that the attending
physician, Dr. Greene, who was rather old school in general about how he interacted with nursing
staff, wanted to start him out slowly. Tom knew, though, that the paramedics could bring in a
trauma patient at any time. After his lunch break, Tom didn t have long to wait before the
paramedics burst in through the swinging double doors of the ambulance bay wheeling in a young
man on a gurney. Edward, a veteran EMT, recited the vital signs to Tom and Dr. Greene as they
helped push the gurney into the trauma room,

Character Analysis On Everybody Loves Raymond
Everybody loves Raymond is a show that was first released during the year of 1996 and ran all
the way to 2005. The show is centered around Ray Barone, a talented sports writer who
constantly has to put up with his wife, brother, kids, and even parents. Raymond is generally very
sarcastic, no matter what the situation, and he does just about everything in his power to not have
to deal with his kids. Instead he leaves most of the responsibilities of child care and cleaning to
his wife, Debra. Although Everybody Loves Raymond manages to pull off being a wonderful
show, it still plays into the stereotypical behavior of Genderroles, which ultimately prevents society
from making any real progress.
At the beginning of episode 1, Pilot it is revealed that the sole provider of the house hold is
Raymond, while Debra is revealed to be a stay at home mother. This feeds into the belief that
men are always the primary bread winners of a household, not women. From the moment
Raymond walks into his house he goes from a successful sports writer to an an absentminded
father who only cares about eating, having sex, and not knowing the first thing about kids, let
alone taking care of them. Debra has the opposite problem, she is primarily seen with the kids all
the time. It is very rare to ever have her on screen and not have the kids with her. This feeds into
the stereotype that not only are women expected to be stay at home mothers, but that it should be
expected because men are not as good

Social Justice Promotes Equality Among People
Social justice promotes equality among people. Having the opportunity to describe social
justice s impact on my own life has challenged me to reflect on the blessings I have been given.
Because I have so much for which to be grateful, I have made acts of service a priority. Through
community service, I have gained a unique understanding of the importance of social justice and
equality for all people. A mentor once said to me, It is much better to be tired and making a
difference in the world than to be well rested and doing nothing. When I first entered high school, I
was looking forward to new clubs and activities that were now available to me. One club that
caught my eye was Life Skills, a program that involved enrolling in a gym class with the special

Through these classes, I was able to educate the class on the Life Skills department. Initially, I
wanted to increase awareness of the program, but it has developed into something much more
significant than I ever imagined. Through this increased awareness, the Life Skills program was
able to arrange a soccer game, and the stands were packed with the classes that I had been
involved with teaching. Ben was absolutely thrilled to be playing a soccer game. After the game
was over, and Ben received countless standing ovations from our peers. It was then that he turned
to me and said he finally felt like he fit in at our high school. Ben had an opportunity to shine on the
soccer field, which allowed me to realize how essential it is to enjoy the little things in life and
how profound an impact one person can make in someone else s life. All people deserve
moments to shine, which is why promoting social justice in our world is essential. Not only was

Why Is It Important To Follow Directions
Why is it important to follow directions? It is important to follow direction because if people
didn t follow directions, we would have a lot of raucous. The reason why we would have
raucous is because kids would have an even more high risk of doing drugs at really young ages
and a more higher risk of homeless people, more deaths from walking streets unintended, and
more. The reason it is important to follow directions is because for instance, if you walk across
the street. If there s no speed limit, red lights, stop signs, or anything, you would be seriously
injured. Another reason following rules is important is because if there was a man to have a
weapon to put everyone lives in danger. If the kid was to not pay attention to any of the drills given,
he would be harmed or even kidnapped. For example, that s what Mrs. Golden is always telling
middle school students because we don t follow directions, one day it will really happen and all of
our lives will be put in danger.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another reason to follow directions is when you are supposed to be quiet. For example, you
could be at a job interview and say something they don t like. This could mess up your chance for
this occupation. Also, if you are in school and you talk during your test, your teacher would
possibly take points off or even rip your test up and give you a zero. This could really make your

The Use Of Intrauterine Devices ( Iud )
The use of intrauterine devices (IUD) by women is commonplace. Worldwide, IUDs are the most
used method of contraception, used by almost one fourth of all female contraceptive users. The
typical indication for IUDs is as a method of long acting reversible contraception. Intrauterine
devices are effective, safe, easy to insert and relatively inexpensive (Dean Goldberg, 2016).
Therefore, in treating women of childbearing years, the Nurse Practitioner will educate this patient
population about the risks and benefits of the IUD, as well as the risks and expected side effects.
The NP can provide a group of questions to the patient and mate to determine the appropriate choice
of contraception. (See table 1).
Prior to the consideration of the insertion of an IUD, the patient must have a negative pregnancy
test, and no active cervical, vaginal or bladder infections. The patient cannot have an untreated
abnormal PAP smear, active liver disease, breast cancer or an compromised immune system.
Intrauterine devices (IUD) are constructed from plastic in the United States (US). Worldwide,
however, steel is also used. Currently, the categories of IUDs in the US are: copper releasing,
progesterone releasing or inert. Except for the unmedicated type, the IUDs release either copper or
progesterone in order to potentiate the effectiveness of the intrauterine device. There are four types
of IUDs available in the United States. The copper IUD is named ParaGuard and is approved by
the FDA for

Honest In Shakespeare s Othello
Honest in love is one of the most important themes in Othello. Othello s love to Desdemona has a
lot of challenges that he has to defeat to be with her Othello finds love in his marriage but needs
more time to build trust, but his opponent works too fast for him to take that time. The immediate
attraction between the couple works on passion and Desdemonabuilds on that passion as she feels
for Othello. Although iagojealousy he was capable of manipulating, brain washing, and untruthfully
all others characters to satisfy his need for revenge against Othello.
From the very beginning of the story Iago manipulates Roderigo by saying that Desdemona likes
him and Desdemona may run away from Othello and go with him. He makes Barbantio angry by
telling him about their elopement then lying about the consummation of their relationship that
Othello and Desdemona have. He then leaves Roderigo to take responsibility for his Iago s
actions. For the time being, he goes off to advice Othello that Roderigo is accountable for telling
Barbantio about the relationship and saying awful things about Othello. Iago once ... Show more

righteousness. You advise me well (paragraphs 2.3, line 320). Iago is very convincing he even
manages to brainwash his wife into dishonesty. He puts in Emily s participation into his plan to
make Othello suspicious of Cassio and Desdemona s relationship. He also continues to convince
Emily to steal the handkerchief Othello gave to Desdemona. When Desdemona dropped the

Human Beings Use Self Serving Bias
This paper will discuss how we as human beings use self serving bias within our daily lives, and
explain why we tend to identify, or focus on our successes, and refuse to acknowledge or own up
to our failures. The question here is why do we as individuals tend to avoid, blame, or ignore the
inadequacies within our lives. Many researchers believed that our emotions played a role in self
serving bias , and many studies were conducted to determine how emotions, judgement, and
attributions , can strongly influence us into self serving bias. Attribution bias is a part of self
serving bias, and leads people to make more stable, internal, and global attributions when it
comes to the positive things in their lives, rather than the negative things he or she may
encounter throughout his or her life. So we will examine, analyze, validate, and link the two
research studies chosen on this concept, and provide examples of how we as individuals use self
serving, and attribution bias daily, and that both intertwine with one another. After reading this
paper we will be aware of how often we tend to use this concept without even realizing we do it,
and hopefully gain insight on how to improve ourselves when it comes handling failure. Self
Serving Bias and Its Role In Our Emotions, Judgement, and Attribution As adults living within
society we seek the acceptance of others. We tend to act a certain way to portray an image that
gains the approval of others . No one wants to admit to their

Essay On Domain Name Search
CAN I GET A DOMAIN?
The first thing that comes to mind when you start a business is to secure a domain name, which
establishes a unique identity online. But, you go online to buy one and discover your domain name
is not available.
The next step is to tweak or find related names by adding hyphens ( ), underscore (_). Domain name
search often leads to confusion because domain names are not case sensitive and some names can
be misrepresented if there is a space, punctuation or capitalization. Example, a therapist with a room
that chose therapistroom.com as an online presence can be misread as the rapist room, Who
Represents, a database of celebrities, Agents, Representatives and Agencies chose
whorepresents.com which can be misread as whore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When buying or registering a domain name, make sure you are the domain owner or
administrative contact, that is, registered under your name or company; If possible, add a
current phone number, a designated email address (such as contact@domain.com just to avoid
spammers) and a physical address or a P.O. Box. This makes it easier for users to verify your
credibility with an offline presence. There are several ways to verify a domain, but the fastest
way is whois.net. Also, be careful when choosing an expired domain name. Some are affected by
copyright or trademark infringement, some have a history of bad representation or ban from
Google searches for violating a Google term.
After buying a domain name, what next? Domain in simple term is a plot of land. When you
secure a domain name, you secure a digital plot of land on the internet. That security comes with
an identification label to prove ownership or control. That ownership acquired from a Domain
name Registrar (such as godaddy.com, domains.google.com) does not confer outright ownership
or legal ownership of the domain, but only an exclusive right of use for a particular period of time
(usually for 1 year, 2 years, 5 years or 10 years). After securing a domain name, you have to host it.
Hosting is to build a house on your digital plot of land. Without hosting or host name, you cannot
build and without a domain, you cannot host.

document. Under LogCap III and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), KBR built and maintained the
majority of U.S. military bases in Iraq. In terms of the value chain disaggregation, the focus of this
paper will be on the maintenance of housing and facilities for U.S. military personnel in the Iraqi
theater of operation.
Value ChainConsiderations
In terms of LogCap III, to achieve sustainable competitive advantage, KBR must disaggregate the
value chain and focus on activities affecting cost, price, or both in relation to the services offered
by competitive rivals (Porte, 1985). Wherever possible, KBR should focus on differentiation by
providing value through a unique mix of services. For example, economies of scale, achieved
through the value ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inbound logistics Property and materials are the lifeline for the continuing operations of base
camps. Tangible assets are considered to be property. Tangible property may include vehicles, tools,
generators, sanitation, sleeping containers, coolers for food and many other items. Materials
include consumables that are used to sustain day to day activities to complete the mission. Property
and material must be accounted for throughout the materials life cycle. Consequently, from the time
a purchase order is generated through consumption of materials, or disposition for property, each
items must be tracked through the approved system of record.
2.Operations Operations is the nerve center for the base camp. The site manager oversees the
operations of the base camp. The site manager coordinates KBR s services with the Mayors Cell.
In terms of O M, all service requests are initiated through the Service Desk controlled by operations.
3.Outbound logistics In a war zone, outbound operations are an extremely important aspect of the
mission. The timely delivery of property and materials, from outside vendors, may be challenging.
As a result, when the need arises, base camps and forward operating bases (FOB s) borrow materials
from one another. Consequently, outbound logistics is fundamentally important to the success of
the mission. Outbound logistic activities are initiated through a

Essay The Berdache of Early American Conquest
The Berdache of Early American Conquest
Methodological Introduction
This paper attempts to link the facet of queer theory that explains gender and sexuality as culturally
constructed identities, with the presence of the berdache in the New World at the time of the
Spanish conquest. By analyzing the construction of gender and sexuality among the native peoples,
in contrast to the ideologies of the Spanish, I found a clash arose which explained, in some sense,
the incompatibility of the two cultures. The differences between the two cultures gender
construction established support for the very un natural or in essential nature of gender, sexuality,
and the body as a means of self identity. By realizing the issue of power and ... Show more content

The clash of gender identity existing between these two cultures led to misrepresentations of the
natives by the Spaniards.
It is also necessary, before diving into the concepts of this paper, that I elucidate the terms which
I will be using, as they are easily confused. Gender, in the context of this paper will describe the
sets of culturally prescribed behaviors, actions, and functions assigned to a particular sex. Sex,
when used as an adjective, will refer to the biological or chromosomal physical identity which
separates males from females. Sexuality, like gender, will be used to define individuals on the basis
of their cultural/social role within society, but not as an unchangeable feature of a person s identity.
It is important to distinguish the meaning of these terms because as they are commonly used, they
are usually considered synonyms in some way. By separating and elucidating their meanings, I hope
to further press the queer theorist argument that gender and identity within one s sexuality are
deeply imbedded in social influences.
The Berdache of Early American Conquest
The Spanish encountered many things upon treading their first steps onto the soil of a new and
mysterious continent. The natives were a group so foreign, the Spaniards questioned whether they
were even human. This experience of contact, then conquest and colonization introduced

The Outdoor Gear Industry Has Steadily Over The Last Five...
Overview
The outdoor gear industry has been growing steadily over the last five to ten years. With research
increasingly showing the benefits of staying active and the detrimental effects of staying idle,
people in all age groups are increasingly turning to outdoor activities such as hiking, biking,
camping and even climbing. This industry is becoming increasingly competitive and has a habit of
assimilating smaller firms into larger ones. The top 4 companies own 76.5% of the market share,
making this an Oligopoly where a few firms control most of the market.
There are a few keys that tend to make companies successful. Knowledge of the product tends to
be a major factor in the success of these firms since people who are using their products are often
putting their lives at risk if the product breaks down. Knowing the right gear when people ask
questions and knowing exactly how the gear needs to work when designing a new piece is a key to
building customer loyalty and trust. The ability to alter your output of goods and services also
plays into the success of these firms. Companies need to be able to adjust, maybe selling more
rain gear during a rainy season or even seasonally adjusting to putting out skis and sleds rather than
kayaks during the winter. These firms also tend to specialize, appealing to niche markets is a good
way to keep sales up at least in one sector.
Current Competition
The outdoor industry is highly competitive with a lot of marketing going on constantly

Summary Of Autumn Poem
That life flows on and the operation in the natural order continues is stressed here. The fame of

cause a brief pause in time. This eagerness to prolong the moment of happiness the ode stanza,
extended to eleven lines, is give en a more prolonged effect and is also shared by autumnwho
watches the last oozing hours by hours she is in time and bears the full load of agony inherent in
process, but she is also above time watching the ceaseless and yet unhurried movement on the
temporal plane. The first stanza is set in the morning hours, the second stanza is set in the
drowsy midday and the sun s diurnal course is completed in the final stanza. The last two lines
of second stanza convey the audible juicy noise of the sibilants which is very strong one and is
presented not simply with a visual image of the last oozing, but an audible one also. At the same
when this celebration of joys of autumn is taking place, we find in the ode indirect images of
ageing. The sun is maturing it is growing older, and so is autumn itself, as in the close bosom
friend of sun only. There is an ambivalent note in the phase set budding more and still more
apparent in the phrase, reference to the bees until they think warm days will never cease. For
summer has over brimmid their clammy cells . The last verse moves to a different kind of
conclusion and it arises more organically from the

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Ethanoline Gas is an invaluable commodity in today s society. It is used in everything from cars, to lawnmowers, to generators, to boats. Everyone uses it, but what exactly goes into it besides oil? One of the answers to this is ethanol. Ethanol has been going into gasoline since the 1920 s and was widely used during WWII (Gustafson, 2010). Ethanol gasoline became popular in the 1970 s due to the climbing prices of gasoline (Gustafson, 2010). The high price of gasoline was a result of oil shortages because of production cuts by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. (The Washington Times, 2006). The reason a rise in prices and a shortage of oil led to adding ethanol to gasoline was because ethanol was an easily and cheaply created (Gustafson,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Microbially influenced corrosion is the biologically mediated deterioration of material (Williamson et al, 2015). This includes the microbial production of organic acids, like acetic acid (Williamson et al, 2015). Normally, ethanol would kill bacteria, but there are some cases where it becomes a carbon donor for the creation of acids (Williamson et al, 2015). This is what happens in the gas tanks under gas stations that creates the acetic acid that corrodes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Effects Of Deferred Imitation During The Sensorimotor... Imitation and observational learning are important in aiding the attainment and portrayal of new behaviours, beginning as early as infancy (Meltzoff, 1993, p. 467). Deferred imitation and mental representations were concepts by developmental psychologist Jean Piaget in his theory of infant cognitive development. Deferred imitation refers to a child s ability to imitate the actions that they have seen others perform, following a delay, (Slater, Lewis, Anzures Lee, 2011). Piaget proposed that the emergence of deferred imitation during the sensorimotor period, is a sign of mental representation, (Jones Herbert, 2009, para. 14). His proposal of the formation of this ability has been accredited by several studies that document the presence of deferred imitation in infants from as early as birth to 24 months of age and beyond (Barr, Dowden, Hayne, 1996; Heimann Meltzoff, 1996). A study by Heimann and Schaller (1985) used infants between 14 21 days old, (p.33). The mother was told to either protrude her tongue or open her mouth while the infant was engaged and observing during the exposure sessions, (p. 33). Two observers scored each infant on the number of times they opened their mouth or protruded their tongue, depending on the groups they were assigned to within the 60 second response period, (p.33). The results showed that the total number of tongue protrusions or mouth openings were highest when the behaviours were modelled to the infant, (p. 36). To reproduce the ... • 4. Dr Heidegger s Experiment Symbolism Nathaniel Hawthorne, born in 1804, was a Dark Romanticist known for his writing about the sins and downfalls of humanity. His short story, Dr. Heidegger s Experiment, written in 1837, is about Dr. Heidegger, an old man, who invites four of his old friends to try his latest experiment, his elixir. Heidegger tempts his guest by stating the elixir is from the Fountain of Youth. The doctor shows his guests how the elixer makes a dead rose come alive. He claims the elixir will make them young again. After drinking the elixir, his guest return to their old sins that they committed when they were young and naive. Dr. Heidegger s Experiment by Nathaniel Hawthorneis an example of symbolism through the use of the rose, the characters, and elixir... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Heidegger s Experiment s most fascinating literary features is the characters that Hawthorne establishes, and the ideas they evoke. Each of the four guest, Colonel Killigrew, Mr. Medbourne, Mr. Gascoigne, and Widow Wycherley, are invented symbols that each portray a different human vice or sin. In his youth, Colonel Killigrew was a merchant who lost all his money. Mr. Medbourne wasted his youth perusing sinful pleasures. Mr. Gascoigne was a corrupt politician with a horrible reputation. Widow Wycherly, in her prime, was a beautiful woman who became a recluse because of scandalous stories that were spread about her. When they were given the chance to change their ways, they couldn t do it. But they were young: their burning passions proved them so. Inflamed to madness by the coquetry of the girl widow ... the three rivals began to interchange threatening glances. ... They grappled fiercely at one another s throats. As they struggled to and fro, the table was overturned, and the vase dashed into a thousand fragments (Hawthorne). Hawthorne is illustrating how powerful sin can be. When they drank the elixir, and had a second chance, they wasted it. The men fell for the Widow s beauty and turned on each other. Hawthorne is trying to symbolize sin and the powers of temptation by having each guest fall into the trap of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Hank Gray Family The Conglomerate Entrepreneur A family s purpose is teach children morals as they are raised. Entrepreneurship is often an overlooked trait that is deeply rooted in family values. An entrepreneur is defined as a person who starts a business and is willing to risk loss in order to make money (Merriam Webster). Not everyone is meant, or is willing, to be one, but most successful entrepreneurs have a lot of their good habits originating from their childhoods. Therefore, parents should give opportunities and promote entrepreneurship, if their child is one of the few people cut out to be an entrepreneur. Both of the people I interviewed, Hank Gray and Babe Hyett, were entrepreneurs. Hank Gray was seeking a long term career when he was offered to buyout a machine shop from an older man. After accepting the offer, Hank expected developed the company and eventually named it Gray Machine and Welding. The business has not only provided a great career for him, but also for his son who now manages the company. When I asked Hank what his family contributed to his success, he said his father taught him how to work, be responsible, and be honest. These traits he held true to and his business has grown over the years by word of mouth. Hank is a good example of a person who did his best at everything, and as a result, never had to look for work after he started his business. I personally have taken on entrepreneurial tasks. Last winter, an insurance company asked my father if he would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. School Needs Assessment And Community Conversations School needs assessment and community conversations This was definitely a much hard task to complete than I had anticipated from the beginning. The thought by me was some research and I should be able to find then necessary information. However, the simple fact that as a private school system, we do not need to do a lot of these public school state mandated items. I looked for a long while and was finally excited to find a school needs assessment for Wahlert. Two things jumped out at me at as I started to read: 1. the name of the school was Wahlert and not Wahlert Catholic which meant that it was older than 8 years. 2. It was for Wahlert and not Holy Family which meant it predated 2001. The actual date was 1999 and was really no help since a lot of things have changed since then. Further exploration led me to find the math, reading, and science testing data for our system and for Wahlert. Along with that, I was able to find our demographic breakdown for the schools in the system. The information was really basic as I compared it to the Dubuque Community Schools on the same Iowa government website. This did allow me to compare the scores for math, science, and reading between ourselves and the public schools. This was at least so form of community conversation as our local paper published the data as well. Though, most of the time the private schools will be slightly mention or mentioned on another day so as to not lead to comparisons being drawn between the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Analysis Of Barabara Enrenreich s Nickel And Dimed If a business wants to maximize their profit, one might up the cost of products and cut employee salary. If a business wants to keep the price of products low and steady, one may earn a lower profit, but keep a higher employee salary. If a business wants to raise the wages of employees, one might lose profit by keeping a high price on products. Is it possible to have all three perks? Yes, you bet. Companies that simultaneously maximize profit, keep products at a low price, and pay fair employee wages do exist, are growing, and should be models for the future business. In Barabara Enrenreich s Nickel and Dimed , Enrenreich worked a variety of jobs in a variety of locations. Key West, Florida; Portland, Maine; and Minneapolis, Minnesota came job opportunities ranging from serving food to housekeeping to retail and more. She first worked in Florida and among the three jobs she took, her highest pay was bout $7.50 an hour. Secondly, she worked in Portland as a maid and her pay was $6.65 an hour. Lastly she worked in a Minneapolis Wal Mart for $7.00 an hour. The journey does not improve for Enrenreich. Unfortunately, she did not get to experience working for a company that paid employees a fair wage while maximizing company profit. Her different locations and different jobs each had the focus of maximizing profit, with little to no care about the comfort of the employee. The book does not touch the subject of positively, equally balanced business; however, there is research ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Literary Analysis over One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest Essay LITERARY ANALYSIS One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest is a novel written by Ken Kesey during a time in our society when pressures of our modern world seemed at their greatest. Many people were, at this time, deemed by society s standards to be insane and institutionalized. One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest is set in a ward of a mental institution. The major conflict in the novel is that of power. Power is a recurring and overwhelming theme throughout the novel. Kesey shows the power of women who are associated with the patients, the power Nurse Ratched has, and also the power McMurphy fights to win. By default, he also shows how little power the patients have. When discussing the theme of power in One Flew Over the Cuckoo s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Laughter makes the patients feel good, and, specifically, Bromden feels good and begins to remember other things that made him feel good (Tanner 4). McMurphy s power in laughter is intensified by Nurse Ratched s lack of laughter. McMurphy s laughter and humor are genuine while Nurse Ratched s humor is forced and smiles are chiseled like in plastic (Wallace 3, 5). Power enables McMurphy to make changes on the ward and to survive in the institution. His sanity compared to the other patients, his manipulations, and his ability to laugh give him the power. He, in turn, gives patients a sense of power by teaching them to laugh at themselves, Nurse Ratched, and the world (Magill 1533). Second in a discussion of power are the women associated with the patients. The supervisor at the hospital is associated with the patients by controlling who is employed to take care of the patients. Nurse Ratched and the supervisor served in the Army together as nurses. They are still very close and have a good relationship. Because of this relationship, Nurse Ratched s employment is secured and others won t stand up to her for fear of losing their own jobs. Harding states In this hospital, the doctor doesn t hold the power of hiring and firing. That power goes to the supervisor and the supervisor is a woman, a dear old friend of Miss Ratched s (61). On an August night in 1973, Dj Kool Herc decided during his sister s back to school party to extend an instrumental and start MCing or rapping over the music. (PBS) This genre like many before it produced controversy that skyrocketed it into fame and popularity. No artist experienced the rap life more than Tupac 2Pac Shakur. Tupac a seven time Grammy nominee among 12 other nominations for major awards along with 5 awards won including an American Music Award in 1997 for Favorite Rap/ Hip hop artist. Along with this album sparked Tupac s first hit Brenda s Got a Baby (peaked at #11 on Hot 100 R B/ Hip hop charts). When reviewed by Source Magazine the album was seen as an expression of Tupac s struggles as an impoverished black male from the inner city area of America. Although this approach to the industry wasn t one that gave him a jump start like the radio heavy songs of his competition during that era, it did hold truth and leave a mark on those that heard it. The Source Magazine Following a slightly ignored, but successful run in acting Tupac would produce Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z his second studio album with Interscope. Then one picture catches the eye. There is a screaming, naked girl running towards the camera. The girl is young, thin and helpless. She is runningfrom the bombs and the black smoke in the background. There are soldiers on the sidelines walkingwith their heads down. In both the photograph, Trang Bang, and the Poem, War, by Kate Daniels, there are many ideas to think about. One idea is the distribution of power. Many times the idea of power is elusive and can lead readers to misinterpret the art piece s true intentions. In the photograph and the poem readers observe that the running naked child seems to be powerless over the situation she is experiencing. Even though the readers may imagine themselves as powerless as well, they are not actually powerless; they are powerful. Composers experimented with more expressive and songlike melodies while pianists developed higher skill levels to match the increased technical demands of the pieces. One man who embodied this particular transitional period was Ludwig van Beethoven. It opens with eight bars of a beautiful and delicate melody that most people can readily identify. It is this songlike melody of the second movement that many romantic composers attempted to emulate in their compositions. After the introduction of this melody, the movement progresses in a traditional rondo form as new themes are introduced, and the initial melody is repeated. In Motorcycles, Membership, and Belonging McCurdy says that if an Indian couple were to come to the United States for the first time they might be, surprised by [the lack of] American social relations. (McCurdy 2014:209) In this essay I will be describing how American views on kinship and social relations vary from those of Indians through both personal experience and learned information. First lets highlight what kind of roles kinship and social relations play in the lives of these potential Indian tourists. Kinship groups, to Indians, are an essential part of life; kinship is something that makes various decisions for an individuals life, some of those include: who you marry, what you inherit, and your level of status in the family. Throughout most of India, people use patrilineal descent to establish kinship; this means that only males are part of the descent group. In this kind of descent extended family is an integral part of an individuals life because many generations all live together under one roof. For example, one may grow up in a household with their grandparents, uncles and their wives and children, and even older brother s wives and kids. I believe that if you are best qualified for the job then it should be yours. I know if it was my company I would want the most qualified person working for me. With me being in the military it makes it hard to argue these points because we need to be diverse. Gulf War veterans marched like Vietnam veterans because they also viewed the war as unjustified. Persian Gulf War veterans would say, American soldiers lost their lives for oil. The first Persian Gulf War started from August 2, 1990 and ended on February 28, 1991. This war began by the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq. During this invasion some of the oil fields of Kuwait were set on fire and some of the oil spilled to the Persian Gulf. The Persian Gulf was the oil supplier for western countries. So anything happened to the Persian Gulf, the western countries will naturally react. The factors that led to The United States involvement in the first Persian Gulf War included Saddam Hussein s invasion of Kuwait, his control over a sizable share of the world s oil reserves and his power over the economies of the world. Many Americans believe that the first Persian Gulf War was not necessary for the United States. Alongside rising racial tensions, fear of communism put many on edge, which gave Americans more of a reason to use blacks as a scapegoat to blame for occurring issues. • 23. Limitations Of Public Education Empowered or Limited When it comes to the topic of education, most of us will readily agree that receiving an education is necessary and important to daily life. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of limitations. Whereas some are convinced that public education limits it students, others maintain that it empowers them. My own view is that public educationlimits students because there is a lack of autonomy, a focus on segregation, and a very real pressure to succeed. The standard way of thinking about education is to believe that it empowers students, however some argue that it actually limits a student s individuality. In his essay Against School, John Gatto demonstrates how the public educational system places limitations on its students. Gatto is an award winning educator and has taught in public schools for almost twenty years. According to Gatto, We could encourage the best qualities of youthfulness.... simply by being more flexible about time, text, and tests....and by giving each student what autonomy he or she needs in order to take a risk every now and then. But we don t do that. (Gatto p. 115). In other words, public education has the ability to empower students, but because of the strict structure, focus on testing, and lack of autonomy, it is more restricting than empowering. Many people assume that students going to an IVY league school are the brightest of their peers when it comes to academics. When given an inside look at these prestigious, best of the best institutions, we encounter something different than what we expect. William Deresiewicz attended Columbia University and was a professor at Yale, and he sates, most of them seemed content to color within the lines that their education has marked out for them. Very few were passionate about ideas. (Deresiewicz p. 203). Deresiewicz s point is that IVY League students aren t very willing to go beyond that which they have been taught in the classroom. However, the introduction of unique metal mixtures to the modern battlefield, as well as the insurgents use of improvised explosive devices, have resulted in the potential of embedded fragment wounds with materials whose toxicological properties are not well understood. The Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute was one of the first laboratories to study the long term health effects of embedded fragments of military relevant metals. Responding to concerns over the effects of wounds containing depleted uranium, the Institute developed a rodent model system to investigate this issue. In the 1900s other metals and metal mixtures were used to produce munitions. In response to the increased range of firearms and the military requirement to defeat hardened targets, copper, tungsten carbide, and steel found their way into munitions. Advances in medical care also resulted in increased survival rate of wounded individuals, many of whom now carried embedded metal fragments in their bodies. Standard surgical guidelines recommended leaving embedded fragments in place, unless they could be easily removed, to lessen the collateral tissue damage that surgery can inflict. In addition, there were few indications reported in the scientific literature to indicate that embedded metal fragments left in place were a health hazard in either the short or long term. There were, however, the occasional reports of adverse health effects resulting from the long time retention of lead fragments (Stromberg, 1990; Eylon et al., 2005). The effects were usually attributed to the solubilization of lead from the fragments, as symptoms usually abated once the fragment was surgically removed (Linden et al., 1982; Beazley and Rosenthal, 1984; Magos, 1994; Gerhardsson et al., 2002). Bodybuilding Nutrition And Nutrition Bodybuilding Nutrition Bodybuilding is a sport where men and women s goal is to achieve a symmetrical and muscular physique with low body fat percentages, usually in order to win a competition. Many factors go into reaching these goals such as resistant training, genetics, mental will power and nutrition. While all of these factors are important to a bodybuilder, nutrition seems to be one of the most important, most researched and most tested and manipulated branch of the bodybuilders lifestyle. Specifically, the effects of protein on a bodybuilder, the ideal macronutrient ratios (carbs, fat, and protein) for fat loss and muscle maintenance. and nutrition s effect on resistance training recovery have been studies to further optimize a bodybuilders physique. The important yet controversial topic of optional protein intake has been a hot topic for years in many areas such as the needs for sedentary induvial, sports athletes, Olympic athletes and bodybuilders. However it is generally agreed upon that while the RDA standard of .75 .80 g/kg of body weight a day is enough to keep those with physical activities in there day to day life in a positive nitrogen balance, this is not the case for bodybuilders due to their goals of increasing muscle mass and intense training. (Masedu, Ziruolo, Valenti, Di Giulio, 2012) A more beneficial protein intake for bodybuilders should sit around 1.7 2.2 g/kg of body weight a day if the induvial wants to see optimal results with regards to ... Architecture is not just about making something beautiful anymore, it is about trying to get across a set of ideas about how we inhabit space. Two of the most famous architects of the twentieth century, one from each side, the early part and the later part up until today each designed a museum with money donated by the Guggenheim foundation. One of these is in New York City, it was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The other is in bilbao, Spain, and it was designed by Frank Geary. I am only going to talk about the outside of Frank Geary s museum because I have never been there, and I have only seen pictures on the internet. This building is surprisingly attractive because the other building that we saw in class of his, his house in Santa Monica, had a great deal of ugliness, to use an official term. His house in Santa Monica was supposed to look unfinished, with an emphasis on the materials used in construction. This building, however, looks as if it has been wrapped in silver. It looks very futuristic, and angular, so it could be functional as a museum as a museum because people will know it holds modern art. I like the way that it catches reflections, almost mirroring the surrounding buildings. So, in these two examples we see very different approaches to architecture. One has an impressive inside and the other one has an appealing outside. Also, both seem to be departures for the architects from their normal modes Wright s building doesn t blend in with nature, and Geary s doesn t look deconstructed into small parts. Now if only they could has worked together on one project, then we would have a museum that would be perfect inside and out. The Falling Water House that was built by Frank Lloyd Wright is an embodiment of organic architecture. It has a stone face that was the same tonal feeling of the rock that surrounds the building. In the novel The Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, there are many characters with strong personalities. While being trapped on an island the situations may not always go as planned. A leader is needed to keep things in line but as one knows Jack and Ralph fought head to head for power. From the novel it is clear that Ralph is a natural leader, uses common sense, and is charismatic, Jack on the other hand wanted power, didn t always use his common sense, and is also charismatic. Those are examples of a few of Ralph and Jack s positive and negative attributes. Throughout the novel both characters, Ralph and Jack have a thirst for power. One may say that Jack is a stronger leader due to his persuasiveness with his need for power, but on the other hand Ralph is a great natural leader. The show is centered around Ray Barone, a talented sports writer who constantly has to put up with his wife, brother, kids, and even parents. Raymond is generally very sarcastic, no matter what the situation, and he does just about everything in his power to not have to deal with his kids. Instead he leaves most of the responsibilities of child care and cleaning to his wife, Debra. Although Everybody Loves Raymond manages to pull off being a wonderful show, it still plays into the stereotypical behavior of Genderroles, which ultimately prevents society from making any real progress. At the beginning of episode 1, Pilot it is revealed that the sole provider of the house hold is Raymond, while Debra is revealed to be a stay at home mother. This feeds into the belief that men are always the primary bread winners of a household, not women. From the moment Raymond walks into his house he goes from a successful sports writer to an an absentminded father who only cares about eating, having sex, and not knowing the first thing about kids, let alone taking care of them. Debra has the opposite problem, she is primarily seen with the kids all the time. It is very rare to ever have her on screen and not have the kids with her. Human Beings Use Self Serving Bias This paper will discuss how we as human beings use self serving bias within our daily lives, and explain why we tend to identify, or focus on our successes, and refuse to acknowledge or own up to our failures. The question here is why do we as individuals tend to avoid, blame, or ignore the inadequacies within our lives. Many researchers believed that our emotions played a role in self serving bias , and many studies were conducted to determine how emotions, judgement, and attributions , can strongly influence us into self serving bias. Attribution bias is a part of self serving bias, and leads people to make more stable, internal, and global attributions when it comes to the positive things in their lives, rather than the negative things he or she may encounter throughout his or her life. It is also necessary, before diving into the concepts of this paper, that I elucidate the terms which I will be using, as they are easily confused. Gender, in the context of this paper will describe the sets of culturally prescribed behaviors, actions, and functions assigned to a particular sex. The Berdache of Early American Conquest The Spanish encountered many things upon treading their first steps onto the soil of a new and mysterious continent. The natives were a group so foreign, the Spaniards questioned whether they were even human. This experience of contact, then conquest and colonization introduced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
