The Legacy Of John Adams
John Adams was many things in his long and illustrious career. He was a lawyer, diplomat, farmer,
Vice President and President. He is most well known for being the second president. He did some
good things and some bad things. Although the four years of John Adams presidency were quiet and
somewhat forgotten, his successes in foreign policy and his control no doubt outweighed his failures
in the Sedition Act and with his cabinet, in part to his background and characteristics. John Adam s
greatest presidential accomplishment or success was his dealings with France in 1798. This incident is
better known as the infamous Quasi War . The Quasi War was a dispute between the United States and
France mainly fought over sea with each countries navies. It started with the United States refusing to
continue to repay the money that was owed to from a loan from France to help them in war. The
United States refused to pay because the money owed to the previous government, as similar to the
US. France had, had its own revolutionary wars and overthrew the old monarchy ending in 1799.
Since France had a new government, the United States felt no need to pay off old debt to the French
First Republic. Now the French were not happy about this, so they started to attack American trade
ships, which is called impressment. This was a way to help aid in their war with Britain. With the
France navy oppressed so many of the US s trade ships, this could have easily led to open war
between to the two

Orthodontic Brace Case Study
Please accept this letter as Lola Gayton s appeal to Amerigroup s decision to deny coverage for
Orthodontic braces. It is my understanding based on your letter of denial dated April 6, 2017 that this
procedure has been denied based on a few reasons, the first being: Must be needed to protect life,
prevent significant illness or disability, or alleviate severe pain . Lola is in constant pain due to her
crowding of teeth; her gums are in pain to the point that she can only eat on the left side of her mouth
and she started to apply a wet cloth on the right side of her mouth to help eliminate the throbbing pain
that she was having. Her pain was affecting her at school and during her state FSA testing she did not
perform to her full potential due to her mouth/teeth discomfort. When it comes to Lola s teeth pain
affecting her daily functions of eating, and school work it is a major problem. ... Show more content

My understanding of this statement is Lola needs braces furthermore due to her extremely small
mouth and family history of using palate expanders, myself and her two older brothers used them prior
to braces, to make space. The palatal expander helps to widen the roof of the mouth and expand the
airway, helping Lola breathe. However, Lola s mouth is too small for the expander and she needs to
have two teeth removed prior to braces. Lola s small mouth and added crowding caused her to need a
lower lingual bar that was applied at age seven, and was in place for three years. Lola snores and there
is a family history of sleep apnea, the treatment of orthodontic intervention can help snoring and
possibly prevent the serious illness, sleep

Evaluation Of A Good Asset Within An Organization
It is widely recognised in Business that the people are a valuable asset within an Organisation. If
employees are not performing at an effective level, then an Organisation s survival is at risk
(Huczynski Buchanan, 2013). It is a key responsibility for managers to ensure that performance levels
keep improving (Aguinis, Joo, Gottfredson, 2011). As a result, interventions such as performance
appraisal (PA) are used to align individual, team and organisational goals. Appraisal has been a hot
topic of discussion over the decades with research concluding that performance appraisal does not
always lead to improved performance (Smither, Reilly London, 2005; DeNisi Kluger, 2000; Jawahar,
2010; Steelman Rutkowski, 2004). Feedback is postulated to be moderator of performance (Kluger
DeNisi, 1996, DeNisi Kluger, 2000). This phase of PA is used to establish goals to increase
performance, engagement and job satisfaction (Aguinis, 2009). However, research suggests that
feedback can have the opposite effect (Kluger DeNisi, 2000; Steel Rutkowski, 2004). However, most
of the research mentioned above focuses on weakness based performance appraisal (WBPA). This
theory focuses on where an employee is underachieving and setting goals around these areas as a
means of improving behaviour (Steelman Rutkoski, 2004). More recently, a strengths based
performance appraisal (SBPA) to appraisal has been developed (Kluger Bouskila Yam, 2011). This
approach focuses on intensifying

Quantitative And Qualitative
With qualitative and quantitative most psychological researchers use both types of methods. In
particular, qualitative methods are widely used as exploratory methods; then the results of qualitative
analysis are used to design quantitative research. What is the difference between quantitative and
qualitative research? In this essay I will go into more detail on these two forms of research looking at
the definition, strengths, limitations and key features of each research method.
Qualitative research focuses on gathering of mainly verbal data rather than measurements. The
gathered information is then analyzed in an interpretative or subjective manner. The primary aim of a
qualitative research is to provide a complete, detailed description of the research topic. It is usually
more exploratory in nature.
Qualitative research is multi method in focus, involving an interpretive, ... Show more content on

This allows the researcher to find issues that are often missed (such as subtleties and complexities) by
the scientific, more positivistic enquiries. Qualitative descriptions can play the important role of
suggesting possible relationships, causes, effects and dynamic processes. Qualitative analysis allows
for ambiguities and also contradictions in the data, which is a reflection of social reality. Qualitative
research uses a descriptive, narrative style, this research might be of particular benefit to the
practitioner as she or he could turn to qualitative reports in order to examine forms of knowledge that
might otherwise be unavailable, thereby gaining new insight. Qualitative research see s people as
individuals, attempting to gather their subjective experience of an event. This can provide a unique
insider view of the research question through the qualitative approach, which is less structured than a
quantitative approach, unexpected results and insights, can

My Mother As A Hero
Sitting on my mother s lap has always been the safest place for me. Although she beholds a lovely
image, I imagine her as a fearless warrior ready and armed to attack anyone who dared to touch her
child. I admired my mother s strength as I watched her work for tireless hours, but, furthermore, I
admired her willingness to sacrifice resting time in order to be with my siblings and me. Although my
mother did not have a warrior s armor consisting of a sword and shield, listening to her stories about
Mexico, her love for my father, and their struggle in America, she became that fearless fighter who
protected me and guided me through hardships.
Unlike my mother, I was not fearless. I could not watch horror movies because I would not sleep for
weeks. I could not stand in a pitch black room because I would search frantically for a ray of light.
Many times I would awake terror stricken and call out for my mother, yet due to her night shifts she
would not answer. I would spend entire nights looking at the ceiling, hoping for the sun to rise, and for
my mother to show. These immense fears, which plagued my childhood, have been the ones to teach
me that great courage is needed in life. I would force myself to be brave or to at least act brave. Not
having my mother come to me every time I called for her, made me realize that I cannot depend on
anybody to get me through obstacles, especially, if that obstacle is my own fear.
Going through life I stuck to acting brave.

War Of 1812 Facts
A man by the name of Charles R. Morris once wrote a quote that stated, A war fought in such a left
handed slapdash manner on both sides. This war probably America s most unknown war. Although the
war has been written and talked a lot about, most Americans are only slightly aware of why we fought
and who our enemy was. Just take a second and realize that the year of 1812 was not just another year,
it was the year one country was so angry and enraged, they declared war on another country.
Considering the War of 1812 was mainly a chaos of naval activity, imagine cannons blasting into ships
shredding it into pieces! Screaming and yelling to position their ships in the most perfect way so they
can get the most devastating blow to the other wooden block of gunpowder and explosives. Tired,
worn down sailors getting captured and taken under imprisonment, all of this nonsense because a
country doesn t get their way. The War of 1812 was between Great Britain, North American Colonies,
Native Americans and the U.S. The war started in the old timey days where they rode their horses and
had to fight off indians, or scavengers just to get to a town. This war ... Show more content on

Was it just Naval conflicts between two countries? Was it just ground war between indians and army
men with disciplined war techniques, or was is just two countries in a disagreement about another
country trading with them? The war of 1812 was about all of these questions that you might ask. What
side do you take? Do you take the U.S side that was just trying to be neutral and help both countries,
or do you take the British side, the countries that wanted all the advantage on France just to win a
country. Should the moral of the War of 1812 be that just let people be and choose your own battles, or
should it be take no mercy and and rise to the top? Just take a second and let these questions sink in

Brand Community
EXTENDING THE CONCEPT OF BRAND COMMUNITY:
BUILDING COMMITMENT IN THE CHARITY SECTOR
ABSTRACT
The paper introduces a model of brand community development that is extended to the nonprofit
sector; a sector that has just recently begun to embrace relationship marketing. It is believed that brand
communities represent a unique form of relationship marketing, with benefits that are particularly
compelling for nonprofits. Indeed, the paper reveals that many of the characteristics of brand
communities already exist to some extent within the culture and/or fundraising efforts of charitable
organizations. The article offers a number of research propositions for research into the influence of
brand community markers and mechanisms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, contributions to charity comprise a substantial portion of the average household budget, over
5% of gross income according to Smith (1980). Individuals also donate a substantial portion of their
time to charities, time estimated to be worth roughly the equivalent of the financial contributions
(Smith 1980). Given these statistics, it is easy to see why the charity donor relationship is so important
to charitable organizations. However, a study conducted for the Direct Marketing Association revealed
that donors also feel it is important to have meaningful relationships with nonprofit organizations
(Association Management 1996). And yet, the desire for close relationships does not guarantee full
coffers or a full roster of volunteers. For although baby boomers indicate that they intend to give
more, they are cynical of charities and demand greater accountability for how their donations are used,
as well as tangible evidence of the good that this money is doing (Fund Raising Management 1999a).
The goal of the current paper is to extend the concept of brand community to the nonprofit sector.
Although this sector is nascent with respect to its appreciation for, and adoption of, relationship
marketing, it is believed that the brand community concept is

School Counselors Should Be Legal For The Equitable...
School counselors should be able to distinguish the differences between individual and group
dissimilarities and strive to value all students and groups equally. They should advocate for the
equitable treatment of all students in their school and in their community. If a school counselor wants
to be successful in ensuring an equity based program, they should consider the role of culture,
ethnicity, race, gender, religion, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and other factors (Curry
Milson, 2013). Any student regardless of background can face developmental and emotional issues
that can be detrimental to their success. Some students slip through the cracks because they feel that
there are no adults available whom they can trust. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is imperative the school counselors develop a culture of equity in their school, and that their
counseling program reflects this philosophy. This paper will analyze four inequity scenarios that were
shown in the video: Equity Focused School Counseling, and the role that a counselor can take to close
these inequity gaps.
The education of students with disabilities in school s today is being shaped by two laws: the
Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA) and the Elementary and
Secondary Education Act (ESEA) which is also known as the No Child Left Behind Act (McLaughlin,
2010). These laws were enacted to protect students with disabilities against inequity due to their
disabilities, and allows for accommodations to their daily class curriculum. In the video Equity
Focused School Counseling, Stuart Chen Hayes discusses with administration his concerns that
students with disabilities have come in discussing the same issues and wondered if he could teach
these students as a group. Group therapy allows for a safe and confidential environment where
members can work on problems they are facing as well as hearing different perspectives. Group
members can enhance their self awareness that can lead to relationship building. Social competence is
a critical ingredient to emotional and physical well being in high school (Gysbers, 2009). Although,

Friedrich Nietzsche s Beyond Good And Evil
Many people have wondered why they were here and what they were meant to do with their lives.
This question is one that Friedrich Nietzsche tries to answer in Beyond Good and Evil. In this book
Nietzsche claims that the purpose of life is the will to power. The will to power is the will of men to be
in charge of others and to be in control. Suppose, finally, we succeeded in explaining our entire
instinctive life as the development and ramification of one basic form of the will namely of the will to
power, as my proposition has it; suppose all organic functions could be traced back to this will to
power and one could also find in it the solution of the problem of procreation and nourishment it is
one problem then one would have gained the right to determine all efficient force univocally as will to
power. The world viewed from inside, the world defined and determined according to its intelligible
character it would be will to power and nothing else. The quote above is the clearest definition of the
will to power. From this passage, I think that it is the driving force of life. This will to power is the
reason for life and is the purpose of life. Physiologists should think before putting down the instinct of
self preservation as the cardinal instinct of an organic being. A living thing seeks above all to
discharge its strength life itself is will to power; self preservation is only one of the indirect and most
frequent results. This

The Instrumentalist Theory Of Ethnic Conflict In Aceh
For instrumentalists, resource, especial the scarce resource, always being an important factor of ethnic
conflicts. Lake and Rothchild stand on the strand of rational choice, they assume that scarce resources
related to the collective fear of the future, and politics are means for groups to control the access to
scarce resources. For instrumentalists, ethnic identity is not valuable in and of itself, it is basically a
mask for a core of real interests (Varshney 2009, 288). The case of conflicts in Aceh approave this
assertion that competition for resources typically lies at the heart of ethnic conflict. Therefore, this
short answer will be two fold: first, a critical understanding of instrumantalism will be provided in
order to illustrate why resources are important? Second, a case of Aceh will be explained along with
the instrumentalism.
In the article Containing Fear: The Origins and Management of Ethnic Conflict, Lake and Rothchild
sited that the intense ethnic conflict is most often caused by collective fear of the future (Lake and
Rothchild 1996, 41). Their explanatory framework is rational choice oriented which based on the
instrumentalist theory of ethnic conflict. For instrumentalists, ethnicity mask a deeper core of interests
(Varshney 2009, 282). Therefore, along with ethnic lines, all scarce resourses arouse competition and
struggles between individuals as well as organized ethnic groups (Lake and Rothchild 1996, 44 45),
and such competition movements can only

An Essay About A Mate
Mate. My mother used to tell me the definition of mate was your destined love true love to say the
least. A person that will stick with you through the thick and thin, no matter the destination. A mate is
supposed to protect you from the harmful ways of the world. A mate was supposed to fight with you
side by side. A mate is supposed to love you no matter the cost. I never really thought about mates or
well superficially my mate. I thought I was always going to be alone, fighting my own battles and
defeating my own wars with no else s help but only my own. But I guess life has its mysterious ways
of confusing the living life out of me and possibly my mate to. The hand on my shoulder sent bolts of
electricity to run out through my body starting from the tip of my toes to all the way to the tip of my
fingers. My body fell on infinite bliss. Even though this touch erupted fireworks in my stomach this
touch also calmed me, comforted me in many ways than one Physically, Mentally and Emotionally. I
felt safe and free but that didn t last long. The hand on my shoulder slipped off slowly and gently but
that action only ripped away all the bliss and comfort from it, bringing back the cold to my body. I
turned around slowly facing the owner of the hand that was touching me only moments go but it felt
like his last touch was months ago, what was this person touch doing to me? The owner of the hand

Marcus Scagliety s Life
This is the story of Marcus Scagliety, a fairly recognized American novelist. Marcus was born and
raised in New York, but once he became of age, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of
becoming a writer. By the time he was 25, Marcus had published his first bestseller, love is life, a
romantic novel. This early success, along with Marcus good looks and erotic mojo led him to become
the absolute definition of a man living in the Aesthetic stage. Marcus used the earnings from his first
novel to purchase a beach house in Malibu, and a Porsche so that he could prove to the world, what a
cool and accomplished father he was. The first year after his novel was published was filled with

immediately called Marcus into his office, to tell him the news. Marcus arrived into the doctor s office
as soon as possible, and once he was there he could not wait to hear the news, hoping it would be
something minor; Unfortunately, it was far from it. The doctor informed Marcus, he appeared to have
contracted AIDS. This news destroyed Marcus morale; he felt, as if all he had done had come to a
tragic end. The doctor advised Marcus to inform the women he had had sexual relations about the
possibility of them contracting it, which would not be an easy task, considering the vast quantity of
women it had been over the years. For Marcus, this was an eye opening moment. First of all, He
decided to do the right thing, and make it public that he had been diagnosed with AIDS. Secondly, he
decided to become completely celibate, to stop the spread of the disease. Thirdly, he created a fund, to

Jane Elliot s Experiment
In 1968, Jane Elliot, a third grade teacher and not a credentialed psychologist, performed a
psychological experiment that conflicts with the Ethical Principle of Psychologists and Code of
Conduct established in 2010 by the American Psychological Association (APA). Mrs. Elliot violated
standard 2.01 Boundaries of Competence by teaching and conducting the experiment with population
and in area beyond her boundaries of competence, based on her education, training, supervised

Elliott s experiment the benefits does not prevail over the potential psychological harm. From a
psychological, scientific perspective, this experiment does not add any scientific value; instead, it
provokes emotional distress in those children to achieve her personal goal. To back up my statement
Bloom (2005) says Jane Elliott s blue eyes brown eyes exercise encouraged children to mistrust
authority figures. She compromised the APA s Code of Conduct and Ethical Standard because she
lied, after that she recanted the lies and kept as they were justified because of her greater purpose. She
abused of her power figure to inflict those under her authority. Another way to understand the
deficiency of scientific value in this experiment is to approach it from Erikson s theory, which
discusses about Industry (competence) vs. Inferiority Stage (5 9 years old). At this stage teachers take
an important role in the child s life, as they teach the children fundamental skills important for the
development of their character. Erikson s theory identifies this stage per its strong peer group
influence that becomes a major source of the children s self esteem. As reported by Erikson, in this
stage children feel the need to demonstrate abilities that are valued and approved by society, in order
to develop a sense of pride for their accomplishments. Its mean, those children changed behavior
conditioned by Mrs. Elliott demands. After encouraged and reinforced for their initiative, those
children begun to feel industrious and confident in their capacity to achieve their goals, they felt
superior at their turn according to her encouragements. The dangerous part of the experiment was
during restrictions and moments of berate, where they felt inferior, doubting of their own abilities and
therefore reducing their potential. Its mean, when a child cannot achieve the society demand (i.e. blue
eyes or brown eyes) then they may develop a sense of

Application Of An Operating System Security
Abstract
This paper presents a description of an operating system security design that addresses the need for
flexibility to control dissemination of usage rights, administration of fine grained rights, and validates
the reversal of prior access rights. The system that can handle this enormous task is the Flux Advanced
Security Kernel (Flask) microkernel based operating system architecture, according to research
conducted by the National Security Agency (NSA) and researchers at the University of Utah. Based
on the results of testing and observations, the Flask architecture prototype is flexible to operate and

There is a wide range of computing environments and products that support these environments, with
each one having distinctive security needs. Computing systems must have the flexibility to support
many diverse types of security operating systems. This is the crux of the problem that has facilitated
research into finding a system that is multi faceted and able to provide fine grained controls
identifying who has access to which levels of data, determine which users have permission to
information based on policies and procedures, and revoke access rights that had been established
previously. The Flask model prototype has proven to meet the needs for an operating system that
contains policy flexibility. It has a security policy server capable of making determinations about who
has access and to what extent. Moreover, the Flask security system is able to split mechanism and
policy with a fuller set of safety measures to be maintained with diminished requirements for policy
specific modifications. The Flask architecture cleanly separates the definition of the policy logic from
the enforcement mechanism. The security policy logic is encapsulated within a separate component of
the operating system with well defined interfaces for obtaining security policy decisions. This separate
component is referred to as the security

Jewish Human Nature
Human nature is an often debated topic. Some believe the natural state of humans to be good; some
believe it evil. Catholic doctrine teaches original sin: the idea that all people are born bearing the
primeval sin of Adam in the Garden of Eden. Jewish doctrine teaches differently: all humans are born
without sin just as was created without sin. The second is certainly more appealing because it is far
less damning of humankind. The Catholic belief teaches that humankind is born evil and is evil by
nature and Jewish belief is that humans are what they make of themselves. Both traditions have
similar origins and draw on much of the same scripture for their beliefs, though these traditions have a
vastly opposing view on this fundamental point. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is support in the scripture for each belief. Paul champions the idea that all of humankind is
responsible for the sin in the Garden of Eden. This holds no water in the context of Judaism because it
is in the New Testament. There is, however, the concept that, ...the sins of the father are to be laid
upon the children... present throughout the old testament. In Isaiah, Your first father sinned; your
spokesmen rebelled against me. The idea of punishment for the sin of a parent is nearly synonymous
with original sin because Adam and Eve are understood to be the father and mother of humanity by
both traditions. The ideology is present in Exodus, You shall not bow down before them or serve them.
For I, the LORD, your God, am a jealous God, inflicting punishment for their ancestors wickedness on
the children of those who hate me, down to the third and fourth generation. This exact ideology is
repeated verbatim in Numbers and Deuteronomy. The quote in Exodus is attributed directly to God. It
follows logically then that, if God punishes future generations for the sins of their parents, God would
punish humankind for a sin committed by the parents of humanity, Adam and

flying on a plane on average is safer than driving a car by a landslide. Data from the National

The Self Centered, Me Mentality, A Character Flaw That...
A self centered, me mentality, is a character flaw that many Americans struggle with. Consider the
man that was cautioned by his mother to become financially stable in his life before having children.
He did not heed her advice and created three children before completing college. The choices he made
resulted in him working long hours, paying endless amounts of child support, and having no time for a
social life of his own. He chronically complains and while he created his own storm, he got upset
when it rained (Tagore). While some people wisely accept personal responsibility for the situations
they have created due to choices and decisions they chose to make, others are quick to use self
justification methods and therefore lack the ability to take responsibility for their own lives. According
to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, narcissism is an excessive interest in one s self; or self
centeredness arising from failure to distinguish the self from external objects (Merriam Webster.com).
This is a contributing factor of the growing problem of many Americans whom refuse to acknowledge
their unproductive behaviors. If it seems like responsibility shirking is on the rise, it may not be your
imagination. Narcissism has risen 30% among college students since 1979, and studies show their self
confidence is at an all time high (artofmanliness.com). People are very focused on themselves and do
not care about the consequences of their actions. This is causing major

the poem is relatively short, it packs an extremely powerful message about youth. Gwendolyn Brooks

which the poem was written, many teens, especially young African American men felt misunderstood
and like the world was set up for them to fail. At first glance, it appears this poem is a mere
description of misunderstood young adults who are enjoying their youth. However, with further
analysis, it is made clear that this poem talks about much more than that. While it is obvious that this
poem is about rebellious youths, it is also about self identity and the dangers of herd mentality. Herd
mentality describes how people follow and adapt the behaviors of certain groups. Herd mentality is in
no way new; moreover, most people are subject to its effects. However, herd mentality becomes
dangerous when a group has enough influence to dictate an individual s way of thinking. When an
individual is desperate to find a place to belong, they will most likely follow the crowd even if they
know that they are participating in something immoral; this can be seen in We Real Cool.
In the opening lines of the poem, the reader is introduced to the subjects The Pool Players. Seven at
the Golden Shovel (line 1 2), they are the we in the poem. It becomes apparent to the reader that the
speaker is one of the seven pool players mentioned.
The speakers tone in the poem is very prideful and defiant, but at the same time, it is filled with
uncertainty. This poem is a formal verse ballad which uses simple sentences that have a steady meter
that gives the poem a jazz like quality to the poem which further emphasizes the speaker s nonchalant
attitude and their disdain for the establishment.
The speaker contempt for the system is shown in the line We real cool. We Left school. (line3 4) The
speaker feels misunderstood by society and yearns to find a place for themselves in the world. The
danger in this is that the speaker of a poem gives up on conventional means of education in search for
a place where they can belong, which

Theme Of Miss Julie
Miss Julie has two subordinates, a daughter of the Count and a servant who are subject to each other s
authority. Miss Julie and Jean differs in terms of class and in terms of morality. In terms of class, Miss
Julie is superior compared Jean since Miss Julie is a daughter of the Count while Jean is only a servant
of the count. But, it terms of Morality, we can say that Jean is superior compared to Miss Julie in that
fact that Miss Julie had miserable experience in her love life. She was not able to achieve being a
loving wife for her partner due to her inappropriate actions towards her partner. She beats her partner
which forces her partner to leave her and resulted their separation.
The differences structure most of the play s action. In the play, the characters who are superior and
inferior does not change in their positions. The superior characters remained in their position and the
inferior characters also remained in their position. Both the superior character and the inferior
character follows the rule of the character that has the highest position which is the Count who is the

One way in which this play could be related to the Darwinian concept of survival of the fittest is
through the play s examination of class and how it looks at two characters who seem to be rather
unhappy about where they are placed in the social ladder. The Darwinian concept of the survival of the
fittest states that there will be some members of a species who, thanks to their genetic variations, will
be more suited to prosper and survive better than others. Applying this to humans led to the theory of
Social Darwinism, which allowed people to argue that those who prospered were just better adapted to

Auto Industry in Canada
To fully understand why Canada is one the wealthiest nations in the world, we need to pay particular
attention to Canada s economic history. The economic history of our country has been marked by
many important events that have paved the way for a successful economic future. A brief economic
history of Canada would pay particular attention to important events such as the economic boom of
the 1920s, the dark times of the 1930s; the Second World War during the 1940s and to also not forget
the important trade agreements such as the auto pact and the NAFTA. Despite the above mentioned
important events, Canadian economy has also been greatly influenced by its own economic sectors.

The increase in employment contributed to an increase in the lifestyles of Canadians. Also government
revenues increased with the expansion of the automobile industry. They had to find a way to maintain
the roads therefore licensing and gas fees were introduced. The automakers did not only increase the
lifestyle of the people in the southern provinces but they had a big impact on the western provinces
also. Agriculture was one of the many industrial sectors that benefited from the automakers. With cars
being built it was now easier for the farmers to sell their products in the market. They now had a more
comfortable way to travel and this made their jobs easier. Also the introduction of the farm tractors
was a big help in the agriculture industry. The farm tractors increased crop quantities and livestock
volume. The tractor was a great invention as it was more efficient and less time consuming.
One of the negative impacts of the automobile industry in Canada is that of the regional economic
imbalances between the provinces. With the manufacturing being heavily concentrated in Ontario, the
other provinces of Canada do not get the same economic output as Ontario does. Ontario is considered
by far the wealthiest province. The province generates almost 50 percent of Canada s GDP which
translates into a staggering 675 billion dollars. Many

CSR
From the public outcry of unethical sweatshops in the 90s to the Rana Plaza collapse of 2013, the
issue of whether corporations should engage in corporate social responsibility (CSR) has been a topic
of debate. When determining whether branded apparel corporations should engage in CSR or not,
there are many factors to consider, like questions of economics, legality, and philosophical outlook.
From the factors mentioned, philosophical outlooks are extremely subjective and hard to solidify into
legitimate reasons, so I will not explore into such domain. In terms of legality, corporations are not
obligated by law to engage in CSR. CSR is the idea by which corporations voluntarily choose

The Importance Of Selecting Criminal Defense Law
The need for a qualified legal guidance is an absolute must in case of criminal defense. Remember, an
aggressive and careful defense can eventually become the deciding factor between an acquittal and
conviction. Therefore, anticipate accordingly and hire a good criminal defense lawyer before it gets
too late.
Usually, a good lawyer or an efficient team of lawyers will start by thoroughly assessing the case just
to pick up traces of innate errors or instances of cardinal flaws within it. However, in a place like
Washington, the lawyers besides following a model similar to this go a step ahead to investigate all
possible factual claims and demands with utmost sincerity. They make it a point to interrogate police
officers and all possible witnesses in order to obtain a clear picture of the case they are investigating.

Society In The French Society Of The 14th Century
Intro, The French society of the 14th Century was very hierarchal and had a strict structure of people
at the top, the Royal House of Capet/ Valois, and the peasants at the bottom, this is called Feudalism.
Religion was a big part of society in the 14th Century and really until the French Revolution, France
was a very strong Catholic nation. France s like most of Europe at the time had a very agricultural
economy. The 14th Century was a time of turmoil, diminished expectations, loss of confidence in
institutions, and feelings of helplessness at forces beyond human control This is how the 14th century
is described, this is due to the amount of changes the whole of Europe went through, from changing
borders, natural disasters, and social unrest. Black Death, The Black death is described by Gottfried as
being the Greatest natural disaster in European history. Philip Daileader estimates 45% 50% of the
population of Europe dead while Ole Benedictow has 60%, and as the population of all of Europe was
80 million, that is 50 million people, however Philp Ziegler says that figures during the middle ages
are hazardous as people did not keep a complete record, but around a third of Europe died. These
figures, although they are for all of Europe shows that the Black Death played a dramatic part in
French society as many of those would haven been peasants who worked the land. In parts of France
they blamed the English for spreading the plague, due to the ongoing war between the two nations,
this caused further tension between the two countries. The Plague first struck Europe in 1347 while
France and England were at war this allowed the plague to spread more quickly. The famine that had
started in 1333 had ended recently which meant crop production and the reverse of grain had not yet
recovered causing more deaths. The economy for most countries had started to become crippled as
they lost a lot of people who worked the land, however most countries the wages of workers improved
as landowners needed people to work the land, labour became more mobile as people moved to where
the conditions were more favourable . People s view on religion also started to change as The Catholic
Church suffered a credibility loss

The California State Public Education System Essay examples
The California State Public Education System All who have meditated on the art of governing
mankind have been convinced that the fate of empires depends on the education of youth. Aristotle It
has been said many times that children are our future. That is a scary thought considering our lack of
investment as a people in that future, for without a solid base of education now the bright future we
hope for may never come to fruition. This Paper will look at the current state of the Public Education
System of the Sate of California. It will focus on the breakdown of the current system looking

Our Public School System is still plagued by lack of supplies and equipment as evidenced in our
surveys where 100% of respondents stated that they felt supplies were below minimum standards to
create an effective learning environment. We were given examples of students having to share
textbooks. Textbooks being outdated with some being from the late 80 s, not a big deal for math texts
but there has been a huge increase in knowledge in Science and a significant change in the geography
and history of our world which would make large sections of these older texts obsolete. Another large
complaint is the lack of proper facilities. Most schools being aged and in need of serious repairs. Lack
of Qualified Teachers We would all like to think that schools are going to educate every child and
expect them to bring every child to high standards of performance. Until fairly recently it was a
permissible practice to reserve the most qualified teachers for those schools serving high achieving,
affluent, college bound students who were believed to hold the greatest promise of success. Holding
school districts accountable for improving the performance of all schools and all students might well
require that resources, both human and financial, be allocated according to greatest need (ca.gov). This
notion presents a challenge to public

U.s. Department Of Homeland Security
On March 31, 2016, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Bureau of
Investigation (FBI) started a nationwide campaign to warn against the dangers faced by the U.S.
utilities against the cyberattacks. According to DHS, there were an estimated 331 hacks or physical
attacks against the U.S. power grid from 2011 to 2014. As of February 2016, they are occurring at a
rate of once every 4 days. A major cyberattack on the U.S. electric grid could cause over $1 trillion in
economic damage, estimates ThreatTrackSecurity.com. (MacDonald, 2016, pg. 2). To detect a
cyberattack on the power grid, Western Interconnection should implement a system that will allow
public and private authorities to receive Indications and Warning (I W) when a cyberattack is in its
early phase. Koester and Cohen (2012) discuss their Electric Power Grid Indications Warning Tool in
their paper. The purpose of this tool is to provide near real time I W to alert private and public sector
authorities when the likely causes of outage events are malicious activity. (Koester Cohen, 2012, p. 1).
The tool minimizes false alarms due to severe weather and high temperatures. Implementing this
solution will allow administrators at the Western Interconnection power grid to take precautionary
measures as necessary. For example, the substations can be manually shutdown in case of a
cyberattack, to prevent potential damage and spread of malware. In addition to the aforementioned
tool, a

Yellow Wallpaper Heroine
The Analysis of the Heroine in The Yellow Wallpaper The author presents that the narrator lives in two
jails in a special era. The heroine in the story changed her attitudes to the people nearby her from the
beginning to the ending due to her suffering.
The social environment seems to be another jail for her. The era is women start to fight for their
freedom and rights. That is harsh for them to get the right from men who have controlled the world for
thousands of years and built for long time civilization that is man as the leaders. There is no
permission for women to publish their words to other people. Women do not get their rights and
freedom to tell their own opinions. At that time, people also hold the idea that women should not both

At the beginning of the story, the narrator depicts her husband as her good lover and follows his
instruction. When she wishes to record her life, she always uses John says or he says. Those two
phrases indicate narrator s obedience, and she still has the willing to live under John s control.
Following the change of time, the narrator s attitude to John changed. She starts to have her personal
requirement to John. She asks John to move down to the bedroom instead of living in the nursery
room with yellow wallpaper or change the wallpaper. John mocks at her. In my view, the yellow
wallpaper is a symbol of her husband s power and the patriarchy. Women at that time are required to
live under those and get no choices for their lives. Regardless of the fact that suspecting John s
intentions to her and the effect of cure, she has to obey her husband s instruction since there are only
men doctors. The narrator has no choices to live under men s control and man s power. The decision
that is not intended to change the yellow wallpaper makes the narrator s attitude to her husband get
worse. She slowly changes recorded ways with more her own views and realizes John likes mocking
and laughing at her and does not treat her as his family member. She starts not to talk on the Wallpaper
to avoid his mock. I had no intention of telling him it was because of the wallpaper he would make fun
of me. He might even want to take me away. In the latter part of the story, the heroine understands
everything, stating, He asked me all sorts of questions, too, and pretended to be very loving and kind.
She pointed out John is a hypocritical person directly. Throwing away the key and locking the door,
the narrator uses her ways to fight with John. When John enters the room and falls in a faint, the
narrator does not change her way to crawl and crawls over John body, which shows the winning of her
fight. Imagination of John breaks up

Reflection Of Education As A Vocab Levels In Elementary...
I m really excited to be in your class this year. We read romeo and juliet last year but only scratched
the surface in terms of new vocabulary and challenging literature. This year I am optimistic that we
will tackle harder books together and challenge our vocab levels. I m not too sure that I m all that
exciting, but I ll try. My full name is Jackson Heath Meriwether and I was born in Columbia, South
Carolina just like my parents and theirs before me. The education I ve received started in Pre k at a
little private school called Harmony. From there I had elementary school at Brennen from
kindergarten through 5th grade. I tried a charter school for the sciences for the first half of 6th grade
and after that I ended up here at heathwood.
My extracurricular activities and hobbies range from soccer, cross country, swimming, and mountain
biking to gaming and watching movies. I play soccer and run cross country for heathwood and play
for a challenge travel soccer team in the fall. Lately I ve also been trying to get back into guitar. Of
these hobbies the one most important to me would probably be soccer since it combines a team sport
with the need for an individual to excel at the same time. What I want from my education is really the
ability to talk, hold a conversation, and be around every type of person from an english scholar to a
mathematician. I not to picky when it comes to teaching styles and teachers, however I prefer to be
challenged in class while engaging with a

The Consequences Of Revenge In The Film Fist Of Fury
Instead of having a real fight in movie, movie directors tend to prefer throwing fake punches in order
to ensure the safety of actors and actresses. But those fake punches have become one of the least
exciting part of the movie. When watching a long fighting scene, audiences would become less and
less engaged and sometimes shift their minds to other things instead of the movie. In the movie Fist of
Fury directed by Lo Wei, an almost six minutes fake fighting scene consisted of main character Chen
Chen fighting twenty evil Japanese makes many audiences wonder the necessity of this part of the
movie. These days, unlike those acted out fighting scenes in movies, the real fight like the century
match between Mayweather and Conor McGregor tends to draw more interest from people. But what
is the root cause of this phenomenon? And if people are less enjoying the fighting scene, is the
fighting scene of Fist of Fury really necessary?
Having the background of Shanghai being invaded by many foreign countries including Japan in
1908, the movie Fist of Fury describes the story of how people s hero Chen Zhen earns dignity for his
fellow Chinese who are oppressed hard by foreign powers through seeking revenge for his mentor
from evil Japanese. In one of the sequences of the movie, finding out that his mentor is killed by the
Japanese, the main character Chen Zhen goes to the Japanese Judo school to seek revenge, while also
returning a disgraceful sign to the Japanese. After expressing

Air Toxins, Landfills, And The Solution
Air Toxins, Landfills, and the Solution Plasmafication
Introduction
Landfill growth is inevitable. As landfills grow, they release toxic chemicals in the air and harmful
pollutants into groundwater. These hazardous chemicals make our tap water undrinkable and our air
unbreathable. Residents who live near landfills are most likely to encounter health problems. A few of
these problems include: lung and respiratory problems, heart disease, nervous system damage, and
cancerous illness. Residents who live nowhere near a landfill may think they are safe, when the risk
may be just as high. The truth is, no matter if you live across the road from a landfill, or if you live
100 miles away, everyone is at risk. To better understand how people hundreds of miles away are at
risk, it s important to know how landfills came about, what kinds of toxins landfills produce and how
they travel, and what can be done.
Airborne Toxins
There are over 10 harmful toxins that leave landfills and become airborne. 90% of airborne toxins
come from methane gas and carbon dioxide. These are considered small toxins. The remaining 10%
includes: hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfides, and ammonia. These too are considered small toxins. Larger
toxins, better known as particles, include: smoke, dust, mold, spores and pollen. These larger particles
are approximately 2.5 to 10 micrometers in size (25 100x smaller than a human hair). The smaller
toxins are 2.5 micrometers or less in size (more than 100x

  • 2. The Legacy Of John Adams John Adams was many things in his long and illustrious career. He was a lawyer, diplomat, farmer, Vice President and President. He is most well known for being the second president. He did some good things and some bad things. Although the four years of John Adams presidency were quiet and somewhat forgotten, his successes in foreign policy and his control no doubt outweighed his failures in the Sedition Act and with his cabinet, in part to his background and characteristics. John Adam s greatest presidential accomplishment or success was his dealings with France in 1798. This incident is better known as the infamous Quasi War . The Quasi War was a dispute between the United States and France mainly fought over sea with each countries navies. It started with the United States refusing to continue to repay the money that was owed to from a loan from France to help them in war. The United States refused to pay because the money owed to the previous government, as similar to the US. France had, had its own revolutionary wars and overthrew the old monarchy ending in 1799. Since France had a new government, the United States felt no need to pay off old debt to the French First Republic. Now the French were not happy about this, so they started to attack American trade ships, which is called impressment. This was a way to help aid in their war with Britain. With the France navy oppressed so many of the US s trade ships, this could have easily led to open war between to the two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Orthodontic Brace Case Study Please accept this letter as Lola Gayton s appeal to Amerigroup s decision to deny coverage for Orthodontic braces. It is my understanding based on your letter of denial dated April 6, 2017 that this procedure has been denied based on a few reasons, the first being: Must be needed to protect life, prevent significant illness or disability, or alleviate severe pain . Lola is in constant pain due to her crowding of teeth; her gums are in pain to the point that she can only eat on the left side of her mouth and she started to apply a wet cloth on the right side of her mouth to help eliminate the throbbing pain that she was having. Her pain was affecting her at school and during her state FSA testing she did not perform to her full potential due to her mouth/teeth discomfort. When it comes to Lola s teeth pain affecting her daily functions of eating, and school work it is a major problem. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My understanding of this statement is Lola needs braces furthermore due to her extremely small mouth and family history of using palate expanders, myself and her two older brothers used them prior to braces, to make space. The palatal expander helps to widen the roof of the mouth and expand the airway, helping Lola breathe. However, Lola s mouth is too small for the expander and she needs to have two teeth removed prior to braces. Lola s small mouth and added crowding caused her to need a lower lingual bar that was applied at age seven, and was in place for three years. Lola snores and there is a family history of sleep apnea, the treatment of orthodontic intervention can help snoring and possibly prevent the serious illness, sleep ... • 4. Evaluation Of A Good Asset Within An Organization It is widely recognised in Business that the people are a valuable asset within an Organisation. If employees are not performing at an effective level, then an Organisation s survival is at risk (Huczynski Buchanan, 2013). It is a key responsibility for managers to ensure that performance levels keep improving (Aguinis, Joo, Gottfredson, 2011). As a result, interventions such as performance appraisal (PA) are used to align individual, team and organisational goals. Appraisal has been a hot topic of discussion over the decades with research concluding that performance appraisal does not always lead to improved performance (Smither, Reilly London, 2005; DeNisi Kluger, 2000; Jawahar, 2010; Steelman Rutkowski, 2004). Feedback is postulated to be moderator of performance (Kluger DeNisi, 1996, DeNisi Kluger, 2000). This phase of PA is used to establish goals to increase performance, engagement and job satisfaction (Aguinis, 2009). However, research suggests that feedback can have the opposite effect (Kluger DeNisi, 2000; Steel Rutkowski, 2004). However, most of the research mentioned above focuses on weakness based performance appraisal (WBPA). This theory focuses on where an employee is underachieving and setting goals around these areas as a means of improving behaviour (Steelman Rutkoski, 2004). More recently, a strengths based performance appraisal (SBPA) to appraisal has been developed (Kluger Bouskila Yam, 2011). This approach focuses on intensifying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Quantitative And Qualitative With qualitative and quantitative most psychological researchers use both types of methods. In particular, qualitative methods are widely used as exploratory methods; then the results of qualitative analysis are used to design quantitative research. What is the difference between quantitative and qualitative research? In this essay I will go into more detail on these two forms of research looking at the definition, strengths, limitations and key features of each research method. Qualitative research focuses on gathering of mainly verbal data rather than measurements. The gathered information is then analyzed in an interpretative or subjective manner. The primary aim of a qualitative research is to provide a complete, detailed description of the research topic. It is usually more exploratory in nature. Qualitative research is multi method in focus, involving an interpretive, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This allows the researcher to find issues that are often missed (such as subtleties and complexities) by the scientific, more positivistic enquiries. Qualitative descriptions can play the important role of suggesting possible relationships, causes, effects and dynamic processes. Qualitative analysis allows for ambiguities and also contradictions in the data, which is a reflection of social reality. Qualitative research uses a descriptive, narrative style, this research might be of particular benefit to the practitioner as she or he could turn to qualitative reports in order to examine forms of knowledge that might otherwise be unavailable, thereby gaining new insight. Qualitative research see s people as individuals, attempting to gather their subjective experience of an event. This can provide a unique insider view of the research question through the qualitative approach, which is less structured than a quantitative approach, unexpected results and insights, can ... • 6. My Mother As A Hero Sitting on my mother s lap has always been the safest place for me. Although she beholds a lovely image, I imagine her as a fearless warrior ready and armed to attack anyone who dared to touch her child. I admired my mother s strength as I watched her work for tireless hours, but, furthermore, I admired her willingness to sacrifice resting time in order to be with my siblings and me. Although my mother did not have a warrior s armor consisting of a sword and shield, listening to her stories about Mexico, her love for my father, and their struggle in America, she became that fearless fighter who protected me and guided me through hardships. Unlike my mother, I was not fearless. I could not watch horror movies because I would not sleep for weeks. I could not stand in a pitch black room because I would search frantically for a ray of light. Many times I would awake terror stricken and call out for my mother, yet due to her night shifts she would not answer. I would spend entire nights looking at the ceiling, hoping for the sun to rise, and for my mother to show. These immense fears, which plagued my childhood, have been the ones to teach me that great courage is needed in life. I would force myself to be brave or to at least act brave. Not having my mother come to me every time I called for her, made me realize that I cannot depend on anybody to get me through obstacles, especially, if that obstacle is my own fear. • 7. War Of 1812 Facts A man by the name of Charles R. Morris once wrote a quote that stated, A war fought in such a left handed slapdash manner on both sides. This war probably America s most unknown war. Although the war has been written and talked a lot about, most Americans are only slightly aware of why we fought and who our enemy was. Just take a second and realize that the year of 1812 was not just another year, it was the year one country was so angry and enraged, they declared war on another country. Considering the War of 1812 was mainly a chaos of naval activity, imagine cannons blasting into ships shredding it into pieces! Screaming and yelling to position their ships in the most perfect way so they can get the most devastating blow to the other wooden block of gunpowder and explosives. Tired, worn down sailors getting captured and taken under imprisonment, all of this nonsense because a country doesn t get their way. Do you take the U.S side that was just trying to be neutral and help both countries, or do you take the British side, the countries that wanted all the advantage on France just to win a country. Brand Community EXTENDING THE CONCEPT OF BRAND COMMUNITY: BUILDING COMMITMENT IN THE CHARITY SECTOR ABSTRACT The paper introduces a model of brand community development that is extended to the nonprofit sector; a sector that has just recently begun to embrace relationship marketing. It is believed that brand communities represent a unique form of relationship marketing, with benefits that are particularly compelling for nonprofits. Indeed, the paper reveals that many of the characteristics of brand communities already exist to some extent within the culture and/or fundraising efforts of charitable organizations. In fact, contributions to charity comprise a substantial portion of the average household budget, over 5% of gross income according to Smith (1980). Individuals also donate a substantial portion of their time to charities, time estimated to be worth roughly the equivalent of the financial contributions (Smith 1980). Given these statistics, it is easy to see why the charity donor relationship is so important to charitable organizations. However, a study conducted for the Direct Marketing Association revealed that donors also feel it is important to have meaningful relationships with nonprofit organizations (Association Management 1996). And yet, the desire for close relationships does not guarantee full coffers or a full roster of volunteers. For although baby boomers indicate that they intend to give more, they are cynical of charities and demand greater accountability for how their donations are used, as well as tangible evidence of the good that this money is doing (Fund Raising Management 1999a). The education of students with disabilities in school s today is being shaped by two laws: the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA) and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) which is also known as the No Child Left Behind Act (McLaughlin, 2010). • 10. Friedrich Nietzsche s Beyond Good And Evil Many people have wondered why they were here and what they were meant to do with their lives. This question is one that Friedrich Nietzsche tries to answer in Beyond Good and Evil. In this book Nietzsche claims that the purpose of life is the will to power. The will to power is the will of men to be in charge of others and to be in control. Suppose, finally, we succeeded in explaining our entire instinctive life as the development and ramification of one basic form of the will namely of the will to power, as my proposition has it; suppose all organic functions could be traced back to this will to power and one could also find in it the solution of the problem of procreation and nourishment it is one problem then one would have gained the right to determine all efficient force univocally as will to power. The world viewed from inside, the world defined and determined according to its intelligible character it would be will to power and nothing else. The quote above is the clearest definition of the will to power. From this passage, I think that it is the driving force of life. This will to power is the reason for life and is the purpose of life. Physiologists should think before putting down the instinct of self preservation as the cardinal instinct of an organic being. A living thing seeks above all to discharge its strength life itself is will to power; self preservation is only one of the indirect and most frequent results. This ... • 11. The Instrumentalist Theory Of Ethnic Conflict In Aceh For instrumentalists, resource, especial the scarce resource, always being an important factor of ethnic conflicts. Lake and Rothchild stand on the strand of rational choice, they assume that scarce resources related to the collective fear of the future, and politics are means for groups to control the access to scarce resources. For instrumentalists, ethnic identity is not valuable in and of itself, it is basically a mask for a core of real interests (Varshney 2009, 288). The case of conflicts in Aceh approave this assertion that competition for resources typically lies at the heart of ethnic conflict. Therefore, this short answer will be two fold: first, a critical understanding of instrumantalism will be provided in order to illustrate why resources are important? Second, a case of Aceh will be explained along with the instrumentalism. In the article Containing Fear: The Origins and Management of Ethnic Conflict, Lake and Rothchild sited that the intense ethnic conflict is most often caused by collective fear of the future (Lake and Rothchild 1996, 41). Their explanatory framework is rational choice oriented which based on the instrumentalist theory of ethnic conflict. For instrumentalists, ethnicity mask a deeper core of interests (Varshney 2009, 282). She compromised the APA s Code of Conduct and Ethical Standard because she lied, after that she recanted the lies and kept as they were justified because of her greater purpose. She abused of her power figure to inflict those under her authority. Another way to understand the deficiency of scientific value in this experiment is to approach it from Erikson s theory, which discusses about Industry (competence) vs. Inferiority Stage (5 9 years old). At this stage teachers take an important role in the child s life, as they teach the children fundamental skills important for the development of their character. Erikson s theory identifies this stage per its strong peer group influence that becomes a major source of the children s self esteem. Its mean, those children changed behavior conditioned by Mrs. Elliott demands. After encouraged and reinforced for their initiative, those children begun to feel industrious and confident in their capacity to achieve their goals, they felt superior at their turn according to her encouragements. The Flask model prototype has proven to meet the needs for an operating system that contains policy flexibility. It has a security policy server capable of making determinations about who has access and to what extent. Moreover, the Flask security system is able to split mechanism and policy with a fuller set of safety measures to be maintained with diminished requirements for policy specific modifications. Catholic doctrine teaches original sin: the idea that all people are born bearing the primeval sin of Adam in the Garden of Eden. Jewish doctrine teaches differently: all humans are born without sin just as was created without sin. The second is certainly more appealing because it is far less damning of humankind. The Catholic belief teaches that humankind is born evil and is evil by nature and Jewish belief is that humans are what they make of themselves. Both traditions have similar origins and draw on much of the same scripture for their beliefs, though these traditions have a vastly opposing view on this fundamental point. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is support in the scripture for each belief. Paul champions the idea that all of humankind is responsible for the sin in the Garden of Eden. In Isaiah, Your first father sinned; your spokesmen rebelled against me. The idea of punishment for the sin of a parent is nearly synonymous with original sin because Adam and Eve are understood to be the father and mother of humanity by both traditions. The ideology is present in Exodus, You shall not bow down before them or serve them. For I, the LORD, your God, am a jealous God, inflicting punishment for their ancestors wickedness on the children of those who hate me, down to the third and fourth generation. Better Than Driving A Car By Landslides It s a question people can t help but think as the plane begins to speed down the runway, the engines roar, and you start to go up thousands of feet into the air toward a destination: Are airplanes safer than cars? It s a fear people don t have when driving a bowling alley or in an Uber or Lyft on the way home from a friend s house. But the reality is, according to statistics from the United States government, flying on a plane on average is safer than driving a car by a landslide. Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shows that in 2015, there were over 32,100 fatal motor vehicle accidents that lead to just over 35,000 deaths. • 21. The Self Centered, Me Mentality, A Character Flaw That... A self centered, me mentality, is a character flaw that many Americans struggle with. Consider the man that was cautioned by his mother to become financially stable in his life before having children. He did not heed her advice and created three children before completing college. The choices he made resulted in him working long hours, paying endless amounts of child support, and having no time for a social life of his own. He chronically complains and while he created his own storm, he got upset when it rained (Tagore). While some people wisely accept personal responsibility for the situations they have created due to choices and decisions they chose to make, others are quick to use self justification methods and therefore lack the ability to take responsibility for their own lives. According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, narcissism is an excessive interest in one s self; or self centeredness arising from failure to distinguish the self from external objects (Merriam Webster.com). This is a contributing factor of the growing problem of many Americans whom refuse to acknowledge their unproductive behaviors. If it seems like responsibility shirking is on the rise, it may not be your imagination. Narcissism has risen 30% among college students since 1979, and studies show their self confidence is at an all time high (artofmanliness.com). People are very focused on themselves and do not care about the consequences of their actions. This is causing major ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Analysis Of We Real Cool We Real Cool, by Gwendolyn Brooks is a lyrical poem that tells a story of teenage rebellion. Although the poem is relatively short, it packs an extremely powerful message about youth. Gwendolyn Brooks centered her works predominately around the African American consciousness. During the time in which the poem was written, many teens, especially young African American men felt misunderstood and like the world was set up for them to fail. At first glance, it appears this poem is a mere description of misunderstood young adults who are enjoying their youth. However, with further analysis, it is made clear that this poem talks about much more than that. While it is obvious that this poem is about rebellious youths, it is also about self identity and the dangers of herd mentality. Herd mentality describes how people follow and adapt the behaviors of certain groups. Herd mentality is in no way new; moreover, most people are subject to its effects. However, herd mentality becomes dangerous when a group has enough influence to dictate an individual s way of thinking. When an individual is desperate to find a place to belong, they will most likely follow the crowd even if they know that they are participating in something immoral; this can be seen in We Real Cool. In the opening lines of the poem, the reader is introduced to the subjects The Pool Players. Seven at the Golden Shovel (line 1 2), they are the we in the poem. It becomes apparent to the reader that the speaker is one of the seven pool players mentioned. The speakers tone in the poem is very prideful and defiant, but at the same time, it is filled with uncertainty. This poem is a formal verse ballad which uses simple sentences that have a steady meter that gives the poem a jazz like quality to the poem which further emphasizes the speaker s nonchalant attitude and their disdain for the establishment. The speaker contempt for the system is shown in the line We real cool. We Left school. (line3 4) The speaker feels misunderstood by society and yearns to find a place for themselves in the world. The danger in this is that the speaker of a poem gives up on conventional means of education in search for a place where they can belong, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Society In The French Society Of The 14th Century Intro, The French society of the 14th Century was very hierarchal and had a strict structure of people at the top, the Royal House of Capet/ Valois, and the peasants at the bottom, this is called Feudalism. Religion was a big part of society in the 14th Century and really until the French Revolution, France was a very strong Catholic nation. France s like most of Europe at the time had a very agricultural economy. The 14th Century was a time of turmoil, diminished expectations, loss of confidence in institutions, and feelings of helplessness at forces beyond human control This is how the 14th century is described, this is due to the amount of changes the whole of Europe went through, from changing borders, natural disasters, and social unrest. Black Death, The Black death is described by Gottfried as being the Greatest natural disaster in European history. Philip Daileader estimates 45% 50% of the population of Europe dead while Ole Benedictow has 60%, and as the population of all of Europe was 80 million, that is 50 million people, however Philp Ziegler says that figures during the middle ages are hazardous as people did not keep a complete record, but around a third of Europe died. These figures, although they are for all of Europe shows that the Black Death played a dramatic part in French society as many of those would haven been peasants who worked the land. In parts of France they blamed the English for spreading the plague, due to the ongoing war between the two nations, this caused further tension between the two countries. The Plague first struck Europe in 1347 while France and England were at war this allowed the plague to spread more quickly. The famine that had started in 1333 had ended recently which meant crop production and the reverse of grain had not yet recovered causing more deaths. The economy for most countries had started to become crippled as they lost a lot of people who worked the land, however most countries the wages of workers improved as landowners needed people to work the land, labour became more mobile as people moved to where the conditions were more favourable . Department Of Homeland Security On March 31, 2016, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) started a nationwide campaign to warn against the dangers faced by the U.S. utilities against the cyberattacks. According to DHS, there were an estimated 331 hacks or physical attacks against the U.S. power grid from 2011 to 2014. As of February 2016, they are occurring at a rate of once every 4 days. A major cyberattack on the U.S. electric grid could cause over $1 trillion in economic damage, estimates ThreatTrackSecurity.com. (MacDonald, 2016, pg. 2). To detect a cyberattack on the power grid, Western Interconnection should implement a system that will allow public and private authorities to receive Indications and Warning (I W) when a cyberattack is in its early phase. Koester and Cohen (2012) discuss their Electric Power Grid Indications Warning Tool in their paper. The purpose of this tool is to provide near real time I W to alert private and public sector authorities when the likely causes of outage events are malicious activity. (Koester Cohen, 2012, p. 1). The tool minimizes false alarms due to severe weather and high temperatures. Implementing this solution will allow administrators at the Western Interconnection power grid to take precautionary measures as necessary. For example, the substations can be manually shutdown in case of a cyberattack, to prevent potential damage and spread of malware. In addition to the aforementioned tool, a ... The education I ve received started in Pre k at a little private school called Harmony. From there I had elementary school at Brennen from kindergarten through 5th grade. I tried a charter school for the sciences for the first half of 6th grade and after that I ended up here at heathwood. My extracurricular activities and hobbies range from soccer, cross country, swimming, and mountain biking to gaming and watching movies. I play soccer and run cross country for heathwood and play for a challenge travel soccer team in the fall. Lately I ve also been trying to get back into guitar. Of these hobbies the one most important to me would probably be soccer since it combines a team sport with the need for an individual to excel at the same time. But those fake punches have become one of the least exciting part of the movie. When watching a long fighting scene, audiences would become less and less engaged and sometimes shift their minds to other things instead of the movie. In the movie Fist of Fury directed by Lo Wei, an almost six minutes fake fighting scene consisted of main character Chen Chen fighting twenty evil Japanese makes many audiences wonder the necessity of this part of the movie. These days, unlike those acted out fighting scenes in movies, the real fight like the century match between Mayweather and Conor McGregor tends to draw more interest from people. But what is the root cause of this phenomenon? And if people are less enjoying the fighting scene, is the fighting scene of Fist of Fury really necessary? As landfills grow, they release toxic chemicals in the air and harmful pollutants into groundwater. These hazardous chemicals make our tap water undrinkable and our air unbreathable. Residents who live near landfills are most likely to encounter health problems. A few of these problems include: lung and respiratory problems, heart disease, nervous system damage, and cancerous illness. Residents who live nowhere near a landfill may think they are safe, when the risk may be just as high. The truth is, no matter if you live across the road from a landfill, or if you live 100 miles away, everyone is at risk. To better understand how people hundreds of miles away are at risk, it s important to know how landfills came about, what kinds of toxins landfills produce and how they travel, and what can be done.
