Analysis of Ralegh s Nature, that washed her hands in milk
Nature, that washed her hands in milk can be divided structurally into two halves; the first three
stanzas constitute the first half, and the last three stanzas make up the second half. Each stanza in the
first half corresponds to a stanza in the second half. The first stanza describes the temperament of
Nature, who is, above all, creative. This first stanza of the first half corresponds to stanza four, the first
stanza in the second half of the poem. Stanza four divulges the nature of Time, who, unlike Nature, is
ultimately a destroyer. Time is introduced as the enemy of Nature, and Ralegh points out that not only
does Nature despise Time, she has good reason for it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We still die, and often we are not remembered.
Ralegh conveys this somber realization through his plain style of verse. Though he describes the
mistress in detail, she is not the subject of his poem. Ralegh uses Love s mistress and her destruction
as a vehicle to address the destructive nature of Time. He approaches that subject in the plain style,
using short, proverbial phrases intended to make the reader aware of time and mutability. The poem
contains several lines that are made entirely of one syllable words, which draw out the time it takes to
read the line. Contrast lines 31 32 in Nature, that washed her hands in milk with lines 8 and 10 in
Christopher Marlowe s The Passionate Shepherd to His Love (p. 989). Marlowe describes the land in
which he lives, where Melodious birds sing madrigals, and beds are made of a thousand fragrant
posies . Marlowe s verse sounds quick and light when spoken, simply because he uses fewer words in
an eight syllable line. Ralegh, in contrast, often uses seven or eight words to fill the same eight
syllable line: Oh, cruel Time! which takes in trust/Our youth, our joys, and all we have... Line 32
especially requires that the reader take more time to pronounce each syllable, which adds weight to
each word.
Both structure and style are used to deliver meaning in Nature, that washed her hands

Case Citation: Florence v. Board of Chosen Freeholders of County of Burlington, 566 U.S. ___(2012).
Parties: Albert W. Florence, Plaintiff/Appellant Board of Chosen Freeholder of County of Burlington,
Defendant/Appellee
Facts: Albert Florence was arrested for an outdated warrant. Upon his arrest he was taken to the
Burlington County Detention Center where he was subject to a strip search. He remained there for six
days and then was transferred to the Essex county facility where he was subjected to another strip
search and a visual body cavity search. Florence contends that these searches violated his Fourth and

In Block v. Rutherford, 468 U. S. 576 (1984), it was concluded that banning contact visits would be
beneficial since visitors can conceal prohibited items and they can easily be transferred to the inmates
through close contact and it would be too difficult to tell which inmates have violent tendencies as the
inmate population is constantly changing. A new inmate can pose numerous risks to the staff and
existing detainee population. Therefore, it is important that correctional officers conduct a thorough
search as part of their standard procedure for all new inmates. Incoming inmates need to be searched
in order to detect any concealed contraband that may disrupt the safety and operation of a jail as well
as treating individuals who may have wounds or visual infections.
Decision: The Supreme Court affirmed the judgment of the Court of Appeals of the Third Circuit
holding that strip searches do not violate the Fourth Amendment. They concluded that due to the
likelihood of inmates smuggling illegal/prohibited items, it was reasonable that the facilities
conducted thorough searches in order to maintain the safety and order of the institutions. Comments:
New Jersey Law mandated that there needed to be a suspicion

Good Night And Good Luck And Badlands Compare And Contrast
Good Night and Good Luck, and Badlands are two very unique movies. Both poses very interesting
narratives, with underlying messages and symbolism. But, what makes them stand out the most, is
their artistic and technically driven visuals. One is full of beautiful and romanticized colors. The other
uses black and white to portray depth and struggle. Two vastly different approaches, but equally
powerful in their own ways. Good Night and Good Luck and Badlands, both use their visual ascetics
to motivate and strengthen their stories. Demonstrating that every part of filmmaking is detailed, and
every piece is an intricate part of the result. Badlands would have been a completely different movie if
not shot in color. This film is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All this going on, but somehow the audience gets caught up in the story. For brief moments forgetting
that Kit is a murderer and Holly is a child. This makes the film all the more impressive, the way it
draws you in. If Badlands was in black and white it would be a completely different movie. It would
be darker, and the characters lack of morality would be undeniable. Badlands may be best for color
film, but Good Night and Good Luck is perfect for black and white. Good Night and Good Luck s
message is one of struggle in a colorless world under the reign of a corrupt leadership. Shot in black
and white palette of cigarette smoke, hair tonic, dark suits and pale button down shirts, Good Night
and Good Luck plunges into a half forgotten world in which television was new, the cold war was at
its peak, and the Surgeon General s report on the dangers of tobacco was still a decade in the future
(Ebert) . While Badlands uses its color to, in a way, distract from the plot. Good Night and Good Luck
s black and white aesthetic embodies the depth of what s at stake for the characters lives. The black
and white is used as a symbol. In the time of the HUAC trials people believed the solution to all issues
could be solved with black and white logic. Undefined gray issues were ignored and McCarthy used
this to sway the people and carry out his agenda. These are some of the artistic reasons Good Night

I Attended The Hugh O Brian Youth Leadership Seminar
In June of 2015, I attended the Hugh O Brian Youth Leadership Seminar North Florida at Florida State
University in Tallahassee, Florida. The four days I spent at that seminar were some of the most
defining moments of my adolescent life. The Hugh O Brian Youth Leadership Seminar, or HOBY,
provides an opportunity for youth leaders to build their leadership skills in an open and accepting
environment while tackling taboo topics such as climate change, terrorism, pollution, and racial
profiling. The seminar is the reason why I have taken up such a distinct passion for youth leadership
as well as the belief that leadership development in our youth is one of the most important of the
diverse methods to building a brighter future. Therefore, for my service project I helped put together
the 2016 Hugh O Brian Youth Leadership Seminar at Florida State University and served on staff to
ensure the same opportunity that I had just a year ago was provided to the new ambassadors. This
2016 HOBY seminar spanned from Wednesday, June 1st, 2016 to Sunday, June 5th, 2016 well
surpassing the time requirement for this service project.

The need that I addressed for not only the Ocala community, but North Florida as a whole, is filling
the gap for youth leadership programs and providing youth leadership development for a diverse set of
students based on the Social Change Model of Leadership. Hugh O Brian Youth Leadership is an

The Demise Of Nat Turner s Rebellion
Nat Turner s rebellion has been considered one of the bloodiest slave revolt in Southern history, and
had a huge impact on the futures of Southern generations for years after. In Nat Turner s confessions
he states You have asked me to give a history of the motives which induced me to undertake the late
insurrection, as you call it To do so I must go back to the days of my infancy, and even before I was
born. I was thirty one years of age the 2d of October last, and born the property of Benjamin Turner,
of this county. (Turner 1831 pg.3) Nat Turner lived in South Hampton County, now in Virginia. In
South Hampton County, there were many slaves. Slaves would attend praise meetings and celebrate
the praise, in such a way the whites did not understand, but the whites still believed that they were
harmless. Again, the whites believed that their slaves posed no threat however, nothing was as calm as
it appeared. On August 22, 1831, a gang of slave rebels led by a preist, Nat Turner, attacked with guns
and axes in the biggest and bloodiest slave revolt in Southern history. Nat Turner was known as a
harmless man, although he was intelligent. Turner was a Baptist priest in the black community, even
though he was never official. He had a wife, Cherry, also a young slave but were separated. Turner
was an intelligent man his knowledge of the Bible was incredible. Turner waited for a sign from God
to start his attack. There was an eclipse in 1831, and Turner took his sign and

Income Inequality And Poverty
Income inequality has no necessary connection with poverty, the lack of material resources for a
decent life, such as adequate food, shelter, and clothing. A society with great income inequality may
have no poor people, and a society with no income inequality may have nothing but poor people
Robert Higgs. When people think of income inequality they picture poverty and people not having
basic necessities. However income inequality is not just a connection to the poor. Income inequality is
strongly affected by education attainment, technology, and gender. One of the reasons for income
inequality is education. The more education you have, the higher chance one has to making more

career and earned a Master s degree earns a median annual wage of $11,648 more than a person with

plays a key role also. Technology is vastly changing and advancing all across America and in other

Continuity And Summary Of Chapter 5 Oswalt
which is the worldview of continuity or correspondence. Continuity is a philosophical principle that
asserts that all things are continuous with each other. 4 There are many versions of this idea, but the
core is the same. Myth relies on the rationale that all things are continuous with each other. No matter
which definition is used, the Bible is not a myth.
Chapter 3: Continuity: The Basis of Mythical Thinking
As Oswalt revealed in the other chapters the worldview is continuity, myth s distinct character, and it
is pantheistic in nature. This means, there is no fundamental distinction between the three realms:
humanity, nature, and the divine. 5 Oswalt verbalizes in this chapter, those who believe this concept,

Analysis Of George Orwell s The First Place
The main purpose of an exposition is to bring out the relationship between the book and law. It not
only takes into consideration the laws that are coded, but also the basic and natural laws that govern
our everyday lives. This part shall highlight the reasons as to why the novel was written in the first
place. It shall answer questions like why did the author bother to pick up a pen, articulate his thoughts
into words, and take time to write such a lengthy piece in an organised manner. This part calls for
exploration and asks the reader to delve into the intricacies of the thought process and beliefs of the
author.

First I spent five years in an unsuitable profession (The Indian Imperial Police, in Burma), and then I
underwent poverty and the sense of failure. This increased my natural hatred of authority and made
me for the first time fully aware of the existence of the working classes, and the job in Burma had
given me some understanding of the nature of imperialism: but these experiences were not enough to
give me an accurate political orientation. Then came Hitler, the Spanish Civil War, etc. By the end of
1935 I had still failed to reach a firm decision. The Spanish war and other events in 1936 37 turned the
scale and thereafter I knew where I stood. Every line of serious work that I have written since 1936
has been written, directly or indirectly, against totalitarianism and for democratic socialism, as I
understand it. It seems to me nonsense, in a period like our own, to think that one can avoid writing of
such subjects. Everyone writes of them in one guise or another. It is simply a question of which side
one takes and what approach one follows. And the more one is conscious of one s political bias, the
more chance one has of acting politically without sacrificing one s aesthetic and intellectual integrity.

These constructs greatly enhance the native capabilities of the DBMS. The procedural languages also
support the ability to embed and use the results of SQL queries. The combination of the programming
constructs provided by the procedural language, and the data retrieval and manipulation capabilities
provided by the SQL engine, is powerful and useful. Database texts and DBMS documentation
commonly refers to the fusion of the procedural language and the declarative SQL language as a
whole within the DBMS.
Oracle s implementation is named Procedural Language/Structured Query Language, and is more
commonly referred to as PL/SQL, while SQL Server s implementation is named Transact‐SQL, and is
more commonly referred to as T‐SQL. SQL predates the procedural constructs in both DBMS, and
therefore documentation for both DBMS refer to the procedural language as an extension to the SQL
language. This idea can become confusing because database texts and documentation also refer to the
entire unit, for example PL/SQL and T‐SQL, as a vendor‐specific extension to the SQL language. It is
important for us to avoid this confusion by recognizing that there are two distinct languages within a
relational DBMS declarative and procedural and that both are treated very differently within a DBMS
in concept and in implementation. In concept, we use the SQL

From one of the famous inspiring incidents, a companion of the Last Prophet Muhammad, his name

because it was a serious matter and the prophet did not want to even repeat those words. He told the
Prophet that everything you mention in the altercation is true. Then the Last Prophet Muhammad said:

Descriptive Essay On The Insane Asylum
The Insane Asylum.
One day I walked into one of my client s room and stopped dead. Written in what looked like charcoal
was a bunch of people s torsos and heads. There was blood all over the bed and the client was under
the bed literally deflated. No bones, blood, organs, just the skin and eyeballs. I had immediately ran
back out and got a guard and when we came back to the room the body was gone. One of the drawings
had a great big x across it written in more blood. Freaking out, we had called the cops and shut and
locked every door. Two weeks had passed the police force couldn t figure out who had killed the man,
especially since there was no body to work with. Going back into the crime scene I counted all the
people on the wall. The same amount on the wall was the same amount of clients we had plus one.
Just then I heard a high pitched scream and watched a great big x appear in blood on a charcoaled
person. I knew immediately what had happened.
Racing toward the scream looking through the rooms I saw something that will haunt my dreams
forever. A client was throwing up all her own blood, organs, and bones with a shadowy figure behind
her holding a bottle. Right after I burst into her room the lights flickered off into a complete darkness.
I was pushed down and a drop acid green liquid landed on my shoulder and burned me. It hurt so bad
that it had knocked me out cold.
When I had awaken I was on the couch in my boss s office. He looked grave as he spoke, As I hear it
you were in Elena s room when she died and I would like to know everything that had happened. The
sooner you tell me the better because there are five dead in total now.
Well, I heard a scream and I started running to the noise looking through the rooms as I passed. When
I got to her room I had looked through and she was vomiting her bones, organs, and blood up. There
was also a shadow like object or... or a someone holding a bottle. I ran into the room and it went pitch

Civil Rights Constructive Discharge

Civil Rights Act 1964 (Constructive Discharge)
Schedule Shift beginning on Jan 1, 2013 (Work on a Religious Holy Day)

Pursuant to the claim made against Toy Company, LLC ( TCL ) regarding constructive discharge and
working on a religious holy day, of which it is a legal concept put into practice in 1964 under the Civil
Rights Act ( CRA ). I have located a few items of interest that will allow us to respond with
understanding and basic knowledge.
Understanding Constructive Discharge:
Constructive Discharge occurs when a company has created intolerable conditions for which an

Ed.2d 305 (1986), which stated more than loss of pay is required to demonstrate discipline or
discharge,
There has been a current case that happened in the Supreme Court, Burlington Northern, based off of
the retaliatory stating that the expansion of the level of retaliatory conduct needed may not be a lasting
approach. Therefore, if it isn t going to remain a standard within the court rulings and looks to change,
we may have the burden of proof to demonstrate that we have complied with every option imaginable.
This could be difficult in the future to demonstrate what actionable items we have done. It seems far
easier to state what we haven t done than to state what we have done.
To avoid this happening in the future we can do a few things to protect us. Many preventative actions
such as rotating shifts, allow for a fulltime substitute worker group that is skilled in all areas (this
could consist of 3 4 people who cover shifts when needed), and/or coordinate work schedules to
benefit those who would like more hours to accept openings that are offered first on suspected
religious holy days, these actions could help protect us from future claims. This could allow the
workers the opportunity to have options for someone to cover their shifts.
On these bases, it would seem wise and very prudent to proceed with carefulness in this area, and use
extreme caution prior to refuting or rescinding an accommodation regarding religious holy day
practice as per the

Sleeping Disorders Research Paper
There are many different types of sleeping disorders that may affect the way you sleep at night and act
during the day. A sleeping disorder is a change in your sleep cycle or a quirk that can negatively affect
your health. They prevent you from getting a good night s sleep. Although they sound harsh, most
sleeping disorders can be treated or can improve with treatment. According to scientists, there are
roughly 80 types of sleeping disorders. Four of the most common ones are: insomnia, sleep apnea,
restless leg syndrome, and narcolepsy. Insomnia is separated into 3 different types: transient, acute,

Sleep apnea is a disorder in which your breathing is interrupted during sleep. There are two separate
forms of sleep apnea, one is obstructive and the other is central. Obstructive sleep apnea is when the
tissue in your throat collapses and blocks your airway, and central sleep apnea is when your brain
doesn t signal your muscles to breathe. This disorder can be caused if you: smoke, are an overweight
male, have high blood pressure, or have a neck circumference larger than 15.75 inches. A few of the
symptoms of sleep apnea are: extremely loud snoring, choking during sleep, shortness of breath,
daytime fatigue, waking up with a sore throat, or using the restroom a lot at night. Sleep apnea can be
treated with a machine called the CPAP device. The CPAP device is a mask machine that provides a
stream of air through your nose and mouth. This device keeps your airways clear at all times, while
you sleep. Another way to treat it is by having a tonsillectomy or an adenoid removal. Nearly 22

Early Fear Research Paper
Fear triggering events can have long lasting and significant changes on the developing child,
beginning with infancy. Research shows that very young infants can learn to fear people, certain
places and events. Science has also proved that young children can sense a threat in their environment,
but unlike adults they do not have the physical or cognitive ability to control their psychological
response nor to remove themselves from a dangerous situation or to lessen the threat. Learned fear
responses may disrupt the function of the stress response system. It could make it harder for the body

Learned fear and memories that occur early in a child s life get built into their brain structure and do
not change with age. Persistent fear and unreasonable threats during children s developmental growth,
may develop unhealthy patterns of fear, stress and anxiety. This fear and anxiety will not naturally
disappear over time. Removing a child from a dangerous environment will not reverse the serious
consequences or change the negative impacts of early fear learning, but there is no doubt that a child
in harm s way should be removed from that situation. However, only moving a child out of danger
does not reverse or change the way a fear has been learned. The child remembers the learned fear and
anxiety. These memories and thoughts are sufficient to sustain ongoing fears and make a child
anxious. Science demonstrates that these fears and anxieties requires active work and treatment.
Children who have been traumatized need to be in safe and secure environment that can bring back
their sense of predictability, control and safety. Interventions are needed to help children in these
situations. It is crucial to note that communities need to work together to diminish the sources of fear

A Brief Note On Crime And Public Health
Crime and public health
Globally, about 5.8 million people die from injuries each year (1). Victims of crime may suffer
physical injuries from assaults, violence and dangerous driving. Other types of crimes, like burglary
and robbery, although they do not have direct physical impacts, cause stress, anxiety and poor mental
health to the victims. A recent longitudinal study also found that fear of crime was associated with
poorer mental health, reduced physical activities, and lead to a lower quality of life (2).
Crime and fear of crime are associated with the physical environment, social environment, individual
factors (for example, minority, women, and young or older people), time of day, and surveillance (3).

Street light and energy efficiency
Globally, the use of public lighting contributes to about 2.3% of the consumption of electricity (7).
Better management of public lighting energy usage would contribute to lower electricity usage and
lower emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2). A pilot project at Croatian city of Rijeka (8) has shown that
the improvement of public lighting which includes change of lamps and power regulation can reduce
energy usage, CO2 emissions and city expenditure. At the same time, it also helped to reduce light
pollution.
Changes of street lighting regime
As most of the street lights installed in the past are less energy efficient, there is room for
improvement on reducing energy wastage by examining how the street lights are provided. This could
have triggered the changes of provision of night time street lighting in the UK. In the past 5 years,
there have been multiple reports (9 14) about the Highway Agency and local councils switching off
streets light during night time, who have cited as the main reasons to cut carbon emissions, to meet
environmental targets, and to cut costs.
The three main approaches adopted by local authorities to reduce

How Does Gruwell Show Courage
Hidden Gems
How often do you see a white teacher transform a class full of recalcitrant students from different
races and backgrounds to a class full of great individuals? That is what happened in the movie
Freedom Writers. Erin Gruwell is the white teacher and the students are class 203 of Woodrow Wilson
High School. At the beginning, class 203 is just a bunch of people who hate learning and have no
future. However, it all changes since the presence of Erin Gruwell. She approaches this unteachable
class and starts to develop their emotional intelligence. From students who like to neglect the lesson,
refuse listening to the teacher, and do not care about each other, they start to show changes in their
learning skill. Ultimately, two of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But at the start of the movie, the students, notably Marcus and Eva show no enthusiasm nor
compassion in anything and anyone. Nevertheless, the first empathy is shown when the students come
to visit the Holocaust Museum. They are stunned by how they have so much better situation than the
Holocaust survivors. From that moment, Marcus and Eva start to develop their empathy skill. There is
a scene where a guy named Miguel comes up to the middle of the class and starts to read his journal.
Miguel shares his struggle about his early life and how he is now happy that he has found a new home,
class 203. And then, Marcus, a guy who seems very quiet and tough, approaches him and gives him
his empathy. He shakes his hand, hugs him, and even sheds tears, showing that he empathizes for
Miguel.. That scene warms me and I feel empathy for Miguel as well. A similar situation of empathy
is also being displayed by Eva when she chooses to defend the truth by telling the court that Paco, her
boyfriend is the one who killed the guy in the store instead of the black guy. By saying the truth, she
betrays her own people but she does the right and that shows how she has changed and developed her
empathy. According to Paul Wong s article about empathy he notes that ... individuals are more likely
to be empathic to others, when they have experienced many hardships and are well acquainted with
sorrows and sufferings. This is what I see in the movie, Marcus and Eva realize that they all came
from the same background; that they must fight for their lives, dignity, and existence. Thus, both
Marcus and Eva develop what Wong would call the experiential empathy which is a type of empathy
that is developed when one has experienced other s difficulties. Eventually, Marcus and Eva start to
have an appreciation for Miss Gruwell as a teacher and have empathy toward one another that elevates

Odors Memory
Sleep Supports Memory of Odors
Smells trigger memories on an emotional level. We, as humans, have a stronger emotional response to
odor triggered memories than any other sense. Smells of a perfume or a ripe banana brings back
memories of old. As for new experiences, memories consolidate in our sleep. Even though it is not
known what stage of sleep this consolidation occurs, plenty of research qualifies this idea. In the
research article Sleep Supports Memory of Odors in Adults but Not in Children, Prehn Kristensen,
Lotzkat, Bauhofer, Wiesner, and Baving put these areas of memory together and conducted a study in
sleep consolidation involving the recollection of smells.

As for the children, the opposite was true. The children wake group scored better than the sleep group.
When comparing both wake groups, there was very little difference (p. 6). Also, within the adult sleep

encoding and the recollected odors in retrieval (p. 8). As a manipulation check, all participants were
asked, during retrieval, if they were part of a memory test. When looking at the results, Prehn
Kristensen et al. (2015) looked at the numbers twice. They looked at it with all participants and then

Fossil Fuel Vs. Fossil Fuels
Opening Scientists say that the earth has existed for over 4.5 billion years (Sarfati, Jonathan). In fact,
if we condensed the entire history of the earth into a 1 year period it would show that humans would
only have existed in its final hour. Over these billions of years plant and animal remains have decayed
from exposure to heat and pressure to form natural deposits of fossil fuels (Science Daily). There are 3
types of fossil fuels that we use today. Oil, coal, and natural gas make up the majority of our energy
source. These resources have been developing in the earth s crust for billions of years before humans
came into existence. Without fossil fuels the world would not be where it is today. The purpose of this
paper is to explain the fundamentals of each fossil fuel, the advantages and disadvantages of using
fossil fuels as an energy source, and how they shape the world we live in today.
Non Renewable Energy Fossil fuels are one of the hot topics of the modern world. Perhaps the biggest
problem we face today is the shortage of fossil fuels, and the lack of new energy sources to replace
them. Fossil fuels are considered non renewable. Oil, coal, and natural gas have revolutionized the
world we live in. These fossil fuels have ignited an economic and social boom that has never been
seen before. It has allowed industrialization to grow the population exponentially. In 1875, just before
the first industrial revolution, the world s population was roughly 1.325 billion.

Blue Collar Brilliance Analysis
Synthesis Essay
My college professor asked our class one day, What is the first thing that comes to your mind when
you think of intellectualism? My immediate response consisted of text books, school, and multiple
hours of studying. However, after reading a few articles covering different viewpoints on
intellectualism, I had a change of thought. Intellectualism within schools, and society today falls under
one category: the book smarts. Many people think others are intelligent because of their degrees, good
paying jobs, or the level of education they ve received. However, these are not the only contributing
factors which lead to intelligence. The two articles, Hidden Intellectualism by Gerald Graff, and Blue
Collar Brilliance, by Mike ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This way of teaching may seem like the easiest, most efficient route, but it is not necessarily the most
practical. Based on Gerald Graff s personal experiences, he has come to the conclusion that schools
and colleges are missing an opportunity when they do not encourage students to take their
nonacademic interests as objects of academic study, (Graff 270). In other words, schools should start
to focus on more extracurricular activities and sports, and transferring that passion into more scholarly
subjects. Coming from a professor at the University of Chicago, who initially claimed himself to be an
anti intellect, this statement shows the true significance of non educational activities and how they are
equally valuable to other things considered more intellectual. Likewise, many blue collared job
individuals are looked down upon by the eyes of society, due to not valuing non academic work. Blue
collar jobs typically are jobs that consist of any manual labor, these jobs include: Plumbers, servers,
electricians, etc. These jobs tend to be viewed as low class, and unintelligent. On the other hand, jobs
that are not blue collar jobs such as white collar jobs, tend to be more professional and higher class.
This misconception is a problem with society, and is touched upon in Rose s article. Mike Rose s
mother, and uncle both work blue collar jobs, inspiring his dis agreeance in the idea that Intelligence is
closely associated with formal education the type of schooling a person has...and most people seem to
move comfortably from that notion to a belief that work requiring less schooling requires less
intelligence, (Rose 276). Mike s mother, Rosie quit school in seventh grade and worked as a waitress
acquiring skills that [...] demands of both body and brain, (Rose 274). This shows even though Rosie

Lucasville prison riot Essay
Around 3:00 pm on Sunday April 11, 1993 a riot started when prisoners returning from recreation time
attacked prison guards in cell block L. The guards held the keys to the entire cell block and it did not
take long for the prisoners to take full advantage of the keys. Four beaten guards were released within
hours of the attack but 8 were retained. The riot was started for many reasons but the most obvious
reason was TB testing on Muslims, they do not believe in using needles to take blood or for injections.
Soon after the take over of the cell block Warren Tate shut off the power and water in the cell block. A

A lot of what the public thinks about the riot is most likely false information. One reporter said that
172 inmate bodies were piled up inside the prison, when only 11 died.
The reporters did not help the negotiations at all. Inmates with battery powered TV s were able to see
sharpshooters position themselves on the roofs. Some negotiators believe the riot could have ended
hours after it had started when prisoners tried to negotiate using bullhorns but could not because of
helicopters hovering so low. The media wasn t always a bad thing though one reporter was able to
exchange a hostage to allow an inmate some air time.
When the riot started the guards went into small rooms called safe wells. The rooms were made out of
2 layers of block and had steel reinforced doors. The doors did their job but the prisoners started to
beat at the block walls with weight lifting bars. Soon they busted a hole into the room and dragged the
guards through the walls. The guards were assigned men to watch them; these men were ordered to
kill the guards if the prison came under attack. A few of the guards were protected very well because
they affiliated with the Aryan Brotherhood. These few lucky guards were even given weapons to
defend themselves incase of a race riot within the prison.

The Effects of Depth on Algal Growth in the Biscayne Bay.
Introduction
Biscayne Bay is located in South Florida and is home to many terrestrial and aquatic organisms. Over
the years, humans have populated the land around Biscayne Bay, which has greatly altered the water
quality. In a study done in 2011, anthropogenic affects in the bay were measured by testing for an
overabundance of nutrients in the water (Carey et al, 2011). This is just one of the many studies that
shows how and why the Biscayne Bay is affected by human activities. A major concern with the
increase in nutrient to the water is that it leads to an accumulation of algae, which ultimately causes a
surge in algal bloom (Levinton, 2013).
Many studies around the world show the detrimental affects of harmful algal blooms, or HAB for
short, and directly link the runoff of nutrients into the water as the key contributor to its frequency. An
example of a study done in estuaries around New York showed that an increase in macro green algae,
which is also found in Biscayne Bay, increases the growth of several other forms of harmful algae
(Tang, 2011). In a more recent study conducted in 2013, Biscayne Bay was shown to have an increase
in green macro algal blooms that are also linked to nutrient runoff in the bay and smother the sea grass
habitats (Vides et al, 2013). Biscayne Bay is said to hold nutrient rich sediment (Carnehan et al.,
2009).

Inhibitory or Excitatory Potential Changes Essay example
Inhibitory or Excitatory Potential Changes
MDMA affects the brain by increasing the activity of at least three neurotransmitters (the chemical
messengers of brain cells): serotonin, dopamine, and nor epinephrine (The Brain s
Response to Hallucinogens). This increase in activity can be either excitatory or inhibitory in nature
depending on the neurotransmitter involved and which part of the reaction to the drug is taking place.
Every area of the brain containing serotonin, dopamine, and/or norepinephrine is affected by MDMA,
but the serotonergic and dopaminergic pathways are principally affected. This includes the neocortex
and much of the limbic system. Within the limbic system, the hypothalamus, basal

Once in the synapse, MDMA binds to receptors on the postsynaptic neuron and causes a decrease in
its firing rate. The presence of so much serotonin as well as MDMA activates many receptors on the
postsynaptic neuron.
There are approximately 15 different serotonin receptors, and the quantity of each type differs from
person to person
(Kalat 68). Because MDMA has an affinity for particular receptors and the quantity of those receptors
can be so varied, the effects of MDMA are varied as well. This is why accounts from MDMA users
change from person to person and from one use to the next. Whatever the quantity of receptors,
MDMA binds to those it has an affinity for and causes the receptors to produce
EPSP s. If enough EPSP s are sent to the cell body from the receptors then an electrical impulse will
stimulate the release of more neurotransmitters into the synapse. It is the action at the serotonin
synapses that are responsible for the hallucinogenic effects of MDMA. ...Ecstasy causes a sustained
increase in the amount of serotonin in the synaptic space, leading to sustained activation of more
serotonin receptors.
This can produce an elevated mood (euphoria) (Hallucinogens).
MDMA is a mixed agonist/ antagonist for serotonin. It mimics the characteristics of a monoamine in
being nonacidic (no charge) in order to cross the blood brain

The Role Of Theatrical Version Of Carlos Espinal
After a long absence from the New York scenarios Carlos Espinal is back with his unipersonal Peter
El Rojo The Gorilla, which premiered at the Dante Hall Theater in Atlantic City, New Jersey and the
National Theater of the Dominican Republic, receiving the best critics from experts on the subject.
This time, the New York premiere will take place at the IATI Theater, a well known cultural institution
that has presented dramatic Latin art for over four decades. The famous Franz Kafka story, A Report to
an Academy narrates in simple words the story of a gorilla, who, after learning how to imitate humans,
finds himself receiving a recognition award from the Royal Academy of Sciences. During his
acknowledgment speech, we come to meet his origins and the true reasons that lead to his learning
how to imitate humans. The theatrical version of Carlos Espinal, takes us even further in our
imagination, for this supposed gorilla turned to civilized man, becomes the voice, a desperate cry of
exasperation from any person who s ever been forced to emigrate to foreign lands. The gorilla learns
new ways to feel accepted by a society that in fact, already rejects him for the sole reason of being

full of prejudice, a society that doesn t forgive that what s different. It takes us by the hand into a place

Nazi Ideology And The Nazi Party
There has been many eras in history that have been appauling to human rights; Nazism in Germany
was one of these eras. After its defeat in World War I, Germany was humiliated by the Versailles
Treaty, which reduced its territory, drastically reduced its armed forces, demanded the recognition of
its guilt for the war, and stipulated it pay reparations to the allied powers. Therefore with the German
Empire destroyed, a new parliamentary government was formed. And so, in 1933, Adolf Hitler, was
named chancellor of Germany. After the Nazi party won in the elections of 1932, the Nazi party
conducted propaganda campaigns. Propaganda appeared to depict the Nazi government as stepping in
and restoring order. This propaganda was used to maintain power, implement policies, and justify the
extermination of millions of Jews and others considered inferior by Hitler and the Nazi party.
Therefore, Nazi ideology was defined as theories of racial hierarchy and Social Darwinism, which
identified Germans as part of what Nazis regarded as an Aryan or master race. This ideology aimed to
overcome social divisions and create a homogeneous societies, or national unity. The Nazis aimed to
unite all Germans living in German territory, as well as gain additional lands for expansion. The
German people were reminded of the struggle against foreign enemies and Jewish Disruption through
propaganda campaigns. Thus, the effects of Nazism were Anti Semitism, Euthanasia programs, and
the Holocaust.

She looks up and my sister s face is the one that greets me. Emma, I want to say Em, what s going on?
But my lips won t move. No sound is heard throughout the room until I hear her voice Why Alice!
Why did you try to save me! Maybe you could have saved yourself! Tears roll down her face as she

Solving the Foreclosure Crisis- Decrease Interest Rates,...
Foreclosure is an important issue in the United States and needs to be ended or decreased rapidly as
soon as possible for the sake of America s economy. The foreclosure of homes has decreased the state
of the economy, and rendered millions of Americans homeless. There are four key solutions that will
stop foreclosures in the United States and able millions of American to keep their homes. The first
solution is having banks lower their interest rates for all citizens who are in financial need of an
interest rate deduction. The second solution is creating jobs that are able to sustain through an

The disadvantages of having banks lower their interest rates are, people may feel less obligated to pay
their mortgage payments on time because the interest rates are lower, despite the jobs that are
available through people owning homes there still may not be enough jobs to go around causing there
to be very little change in the amount of homes in foreclosure. Creating jobs that are able to sustain
through an economic crisis will stop foreclosures because if citizens lose their jobs in an economic
crisis they will be able to quickly find another job. This would be beneficial in the fight to end
foreclosures because people would have the funds to pay their mortgage and any other financial
obligations. How one would go about creating new jobs is by developing new technology, products,
and services that would change the way people live their everyday life while helping them to save
money. Hybrid vehicles are an example of a new technology that has currently kept and created new
jobs for citizens in the U.S. Hybrid vehicles are perfect examples of a new technology that has

From the Nobel Prize website itself, the passage describes briefly and clearly elaborates on Albert
Camus, mostly in the focus of his career, writing and otherwise his involvement in theatre. The main
purpose of this piece is to inform people who are interested in the Nobel Prize selection and in Camus
himself about him, providing a short synopsis on his background and his movement in his career from
political journalism to writing essays, stories, and furthermore novels. Growing up, Camus expressed
a deep interest to philosophy, which later prevailed in all of his publications as well as his Algerian
upbringing. Although his fascinations to the mind and thought were definitely present, he was unable
to attend university for philosophy; however, luck struck him when he was able to begin working as a
columnist and later dabbled in theatre. In many of his works, he utilized the notion of absurdum and
absence, seen heavily in The Myth of Sisyphus and further elaborated upon in the main character of
Meursault in The Stranger. By gathering the pieces that occurred in Camus s life, it becomes clearer as
to why he wrote the story the way it is and what it means, to him and to others.

This paper sets out to review the role of entrepreneurship in stimulating economic growth, reducing
unemployment and increasing levels of income in low to middle income countries. Nieman and

to their special qualities. They also further states that entrepreneurs have been responsible for growth
and development over the centuries and are identified as the key role players in the economy of every

He further states that it always has to do with bringing about a different use of resources in that they
are withdrawn from their traditional employ and subjected to new combinations. Schumpeter relates
entrepreneurship to be influenced by entrepreneurs who are innovative and these people have to be
extra ordinary as they have to come up with extra ordinary events. They come up with new
technological possibilities hence are able to establish large businesses from these. Carland etal. (1984)
confirms that an entrepreneur is someone innovative and further says that he or she employs strategic
management practices in the business. Timmons (2000) believes entrepreneurship as the process of
creating and seizing an opportunity and pursuing it, regardless of resources currently controlled.
Nieman and Nieuwenhuizen (2009) define an entrepreneur as the person who sees an opportunity in
the market, gathers resources and creates and grows a business venture to meet these needs. They also
further states that he or she bears risk of the venture and is rewarded with profit if it succeed. With
different definitions of entrepreneurship defined by different authors through the way they define an
entrepreneur, the researcher generally defines entrepreneurship as the act of being an entrepreneur
who establishes business through the organisation of resources taking risk with the aim of realising
profit.

customs. Fusako is compelled from traditional Japan due to her materialistic desires. To add to this,
Fusako is interested in western goods and modifies her house according to the western attitudes.
Fusako s house is displayed to be a modern household as there wasn t a single Japanese room in
Fusako s house; her mode of living was thoroughly western (Mishima 113). As a result, Fusako
displays the characteristics of a western individual as she alters from living a traditional style life to a
modern. The traditional ethics that once existed for Fusako were vanished due to the introduction of
the western culture. Moreover, Fusako s shop, the Rex .LTD,

Monologue On The American Ambush
How have you been? I hope life is going well. How is mom doing? Are you and her eating and
sleeping well? I want to be very honest in this letter. Please do not tell mother what I am about to tell
you. I don t want to worry her. I don t want to worry you too but you re stronger than mom. What I am
about to tell you please take it into consideration but also don t worry as much. Do you remember
Lieutenant Carroll? Lieutenant Carroll was the closest to heaven that we will ever get but that night
we were in hell. There was an ambush. When an ambush occurs you don t ever know what will
happen. Everything is unexpected and you might make some mistakes. I made plenty mistakes during
an ambush. During the ambush I was firing at the enemy trying to kill them and protect our man.
Carroll was near me. When I turned around I seen Carroll get hit near the armpit. Me and the men
tried to rush to the hospital to Chu Lai but it was too late. Carroll shortly died after arriving. Kenny I
wish you would have met him. I believed that Carroll was the only one who really cared for us since
the start. He was the only person I really trusted other than Peewee but I really couldn t talk to Peewee
about personal and serious stuff. Everyone loved Carroll. I remember when I first met ... Show more

life. I will talk to another time when I get the chance. Do well in school and be nice to mom. Kiss and

What roles did urbanization, industrialization, specialization, commercialization, and mass media play
in these developments?
Urbanization, Industrialization, and Social Change: Have some idea of the changes in transportation,
communication, technology, and law that spurred the rise of an urbanized and industrialized capitalist
economy in the Northeast and upper Midwest in the first decades of the 19th century. How did
industrialization and the factory system change the location and nature of work? What were some
differences between pre modern and modern work culture? How did employers and reformers attempt
to impose new kinds of social power over the workforce? How did these economic changes correlate
with changes in political citizenship and public identity in the industrial city? In what ways did they
begin to alter the lived nature of time and space? How did they change the relationship between work
and leisure? Be prepared to think about the relationship between these economic, social, and political
changes and the kinds of recreational behavior observed in prize fighters, harness racers, and other self
defined sportsmen in the early nineteenth century. How did the emergence of an inexpensive popular

Essay On The Tragedy Of Hamlet
Deliberate Killing of Oneself
To be or not to be is not the question. The question is , Who would bear the torments of the world we
live in when he could settle everything himself with a mere dagger? Is a statement made by Hamlet In
Shakespeare s play, The Tragedy Of Hamlet (III.I). The death of the king causes the royal family to
have many problems. The death allowed Claudius, King Hamlet s brother to take the throne and the
Queen s hand only shortly after, causing Hamlet to hate both of them. It also made Hamlet consider
suicide, and undergo moments of self doubt and betrayal from Queen Gertrude. As well as the death of
polonius which cause the fair Ophelia s suspicious death . Shakespeare brings up the thought of
suicide often because the main character is going through a depressing stage of mourning throughout
the play and has also considered ending his life a number of times throughout the play but struggles
because he is stuck in the Elizabethan era which saw suicide as an unforgivable sin religiously, and as
a total wrongdoing morally , but Hamlet thought aesthetically, Humans do not end their lives because
they are afraid of wait will come , they rather bear the burdens and suffering they experience than to to
an unknown world and never return again.. Hamlet believes that people choose to stay alive in order to
live a well life which he believes is the path to an eternal life of joy.
Suicide is an important theme in Hamlet and is brought up in many situations

The Modern Culture Of Chippewa Today
Though Native Americans are today seen as regular members of society and treated as such, and even
are given certain special treatments (such as federally recognized tribes being seen as domestic
dependant nations and allowing for them to have their own set of laws), there can be no argument
when it is said that, in the past, they were treated terribly. In fact, when European settlers came, their
clash with the natives resulted in mass genocide. The Chippewa lived mainly in the American midwest
(including Michigan) and in Ontario, a Canadian province. I use the term lived here because, despite
the Chippewa being alive and well, they are more spread out now due to the advantages of modern
technology. The modern culture of Chippewa today is vastly different from original Chippewa, as well
(Friedl, pgs 814 815). Food for them could range from rabbit or deer or even bears (Copway, George,
Hulan, Shelley, pgs 26 and 28) to corn and wild rice (Friedl, pg 816). According to Friedl s data,
Chippewas generally expect their circumstances to be constantly changing. For example, indigenous
Chippewas left a lot of things to chance. As stated previously, they planted corn, but they did not tend
to it (Friedl, pg 816). They collected wild rice when it was available, as well as nuts and berries when
they were in season. They also heavily relied on dreams to lead them in the right direction (Friedl,
816). If they dreamed they would prosper elsewhere, they would leave. If they dreamed of

Medical Director For Ems Hospitals For Observation That...
Study Population
The study population for this research is patients for EMS hospitals for observation that provide
different shift patterns. This group will mainly include emergency room physicians, and emergency
patients. Any doctor who is a medical director for an EMS service will be excluded from the survey to
disregard any potential bias(Bowen, 2009).
The importance of identifying the population is to observe the patients in the different EMS hospitals
for observation that provide different problems of patients. The purpose of identifying the population
is to observe that EMS professionals are required to have a good kind of leadership to take better and
effective control of financial matters of EMS organization so that EMS organization could be able to
achieve the mission of handling emergency care(Sandelowski, 1995).
There are different methods involved for identifying the proper population. The best way is to
examine research question and applied on specific population. As in the case of the EMS professionals
are required to have a good kind of leadership to take better and effective control of financial matters
of EMS organization so that EMS organization could be able to achieve the mission of handling
emergency care , the population involves the observation of the EMS specialist in the hospitals. The
purpose is to examine their leadership to get better and effective control of financial matters.
The challenges associated with population identification are that

  • 2. Analysis of Ralegh s Nature, that washed her hands in... Analysis of Ralegh s Nature, that washed her hands in milk Nature, that washed her hands in milk can be divided structurally into two halves; the first three stanzas constitute the first half, and the last three stanzas make up the second half. Each stanza in the first half corresponds to a stanza in the second half. The first stanza describes the temperament of Nature, who is, above all, creative. This first stanza of the first half corresponds to stanza four, the first stanza in the second half of the poem. Stanza four divulges the nature of Time, who, unlike Nature, is ultimately a destroyer. Time is introduced as the enemy of Nature, and Ralegh points out that not only does Nature despise Time, she has good reason for it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We still die, and often we are not remembered. Ralegh conveys this somber realization through his plain style of verse. Though he describes the mistress in detail, she is not the subject of his poem. Ralegh uses Love s mistress and her destruction as a vehicle to address the destructive nature of Time. He approaches that subject in the plain style, using short, proverbial phrases intended to make the reader aware of time and mutability. The poem contains several lines that are made entirely of one syllable words, which draw out the time it takes to read the line. Contrast lines 31 32 in Nature, that washed her hands in milk with lines 8 and 10 in Christopher Marlowe s The Passionate Shepherd to His Love (p. 989). Marlowe describes the land in which he lives, where Melodious birds sing madrigals, and beds are made of a thousand fragrant posies . Marlowe s verse sounds quick and light when spoken, simply because he uses fewer words in an eight syllable line. Ralegh, in contrast, often uses seven or eight words to fill the same eight syllable line: Oh, cruel Time! which takes in trust/Our youth, our joys, and all we have... Line 32 especially requires that the reader take more time to pronounce each syllable, which adds weight to each word. Board of Chosen Freeholders of County of Burlington, 566 U.S. ___(2012). Parties: Albert W. Florence, Plaintiff/Appellant Board of Chosen Freeholder of County of Burlington, Defendant/Appellee Facts: Albert Florence was arrested for an outdated warrant. Upon his arrest he was taken to the Burlington County Detention Center where he was subject to a strip search. He remained there for six days and then was transferred to the Essex county facility where he was subjected to another strip search and a visual body cavity search. Florence contends that these searches violated his Fourth and Fourteenth Amendment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Block v. Rutherford, 468 U. S. 576 (1984), it was concluded that banning contact visits would be beneficial since visitors can conceal prohibited items and they can easily be transferred to the inmates through close contact and it would be too difficult to tell which inmates have violent tendencies as the inmate population is constantly changing. A new inmate can pose numerous risks to the staff and existing detainee population. Therefore, it is important that correctional officers conduct a thorough search as part of their standard procedure for all new inmates. Incoming inmates need to be searched in order to detect any concealed contraband that may disrupt the safety and operation of a jail as well as treating individuals who may have wounds or visual infections. Decision: The Supreme Court affirmed the judgment of the Court of Appeals of the Third Circuit holding that strip searches do not violate the Fourth Amendment. They concluded that due to the likelihood of inmates smuggling illegal/prohibited items, it was reasonable that the facilities conducted thorough searches in order to maintain the safety and order of the institutions. • 4. Good Night And Good Luck And Badlands Compare And Contrast Good Night and Good Luck, and Badlands are two very unique movies. Both poses very interesting narratives, with underlying messages and symbolism. But, what makes them stand out the most, is their artistic and technically driven visuals. One is full of beautiful and romanticized colors. The other uses black and white to portray depth and struggle. Two vastly different approaches, but equally powerful in their own ways. Good Night and Good Luck and Badlands, both use their visual ascetics to motivate and strengthen their stories. Demonstrating that every part of filmmaking is detailed, and every piece is an intricate part of the result. Badlands would have been a completely different movie if not shot in color. This film is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All this going on, but somehow the audience gets caught up in the story. For brief moments forgetting that Kit is a murderer and Holly is a child. This makes the film all the more impressive, the way it draws you in. If Badlands was in black and white it would be a completely different movie. It would be darker, and the characters lack of morality would be undeniable. Badlands may be best for color film, but Good Night and Good Luck is perfect for black and white. Good Night and Good Luck s message is one of struggle in a colorless world under the reign of a corrupt leadership. Shot in black and white palette of cigarette smoke, hair tonic, dark suits and pale button down shirts, Good Night and Good Luck plunges into a half forgotten world in which television was new, the cold war was at its peak, and the Surgeon General s report on the dangers of tobacco was still a decade in the future (Ebert) . While Badlands uses its color to, in a way, distract from the plot. Good Night and Good Luck s black and white aesthetic embodies the depth of what s at stake for the characters lives. The black and white is used as a symbol. In the time of the HUAC trials people believed the solution to all issues could be solved with black and white logic. Undefined gray issues were ignored and McCarthy used this to sway the people and carry out his agenda. These are some of the artistic reasons Good Night Good and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. I Attended The Hugh O Brian Youth Leadership Seminar In June of 2015, I attended the Hugh O Brian Youth Leadership Seminar North Florida at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. The four days I spent at that seminar were some of the most defining moments of my adolescent life. The Hugh O Brian Youth Leadership Seminar, or HOBY, provides an opportunity for youth leaders to build their leadership skills in an open and accepting environment while tackling taboo topics such as climate change, terrorism, pollution, and racial profiling. The seminar is the reason why I have taken up such a distinct passion for youth leadership as well as the belief that leadership development in our youth is one of the most important of the diverse methods to building a brighter future. Therefore, for my service project I helped put together the 2016 Hugh O Brian Youth Leadership Seminar at Florida State University and served on staff to ensure the same opportunity that I had just a year ago was provided to the new ambassadors. This 2016 HOBY seminar spanned from Wednesday, June 1st, 2016 to Sunday, June 5th, 2016 well surpassing the time requirement for this service project. Service Provided The need that I addressed for not only the Ocala community, but North Florida as a whole, is filling the gap for youth leadership programs and providing youth leadership development for a diverse set of students based on the Social Change Model of Leadership. In Nat Turner s confessions he states You have asked me to give a history of the motives which induced me to undertake the late insurrection, as you call it To do so I must go back to the days of my infancy, and even before I was born. I was thirty one years of age the 2d of October last, and born the property of Benjamin Turner, of this county. (Turner 1831 pg.3) Nat Turner lived in South Hampton County, now in Virginia. In South Hampton County, there were many slaves. Slaves would attend praise meetings and celebrate the praise, in such a way the whites did not understand, but the whites still believed that they were harmless. Again, the whites believed that their slaves posed no threat however, nothing was as calm as it appeared. On August 22, 1831, a gang of slave rebels led by a preist, Nat Turner, attacked with guns and axes in the biggest and bloodiest slave revolt in Southern history. Nat Turner was known as a harmless man, although he was intelligent. Turner was a Baptist priest in the black community, even though he was never official. He had a wife, Cherry, also a young slave but were separated. Turner was an intelligent man his knowledge of the Bible was incredible. Turner waited for a sign from God to start his attack. The purpose of this paper is to explain the fundamentals of each fossil fuel, the advantages and disadvantages of using fossil fuels as an energy source, and how they shape the world we live in today. Non Renewable Energy Fossil fuels are one of the hot topics of the modern world. Perhaps the biggest problem we face today is the shortage of fossil fuels, and the lack of new energy sources to replace them. Fossil fuels are considered non renewable. Oil, coal, and natural gas have revolutionized the world we live in. These fossil fuels have ignited an economic and social boom that has never been seen before. It has allowed industrialization to grow the population exponentially. In 1875, just before the first industrial revolution, the world s population was roughly 1.325 billion. ... • 25. Blue Collar Brilliance Analysis Synthesis Essay My college professor asked our class one day, What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of intellectualism? My immediate response consisted of text books, school, and multiple hours of studying. However, after reading a few articles covering different viewpoints on intellectualism, I had a change of thought. Intellectualism within schools, and society today falls under one category: the book smarts. Many people think others are intelligent because of their degrees, good paying jobs, or the level of education they ve received. However, these are not the only contributing factors which lead to intelligence. The two articles, Hidden Intellectualism by Gerald Graff, and Blue Collar Brilliance, by Mike ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This way of teaching may seem like the easiest, most efficient route, but it is not necessarily the most practical. Based on Gerald Graff s personal experiences, he has come to the conclusion that schools and colleges are missing an opportunity when they do not encourage students to take their nonacademic interests as objects of academic study, (Graff 270). In other words, schools should start to focus on more extracurricular activities and sports, and transferring that passion into more scholarly subjects. Coming from a professor at the University of Chicago, who initially claimed himself to be an anti intellect, this statement shows the true significance of non educational activities and how they are equally valuable to other things considered more intellectual. Likewise, many blue collared job individuals are looked down upon by the eyes of society, due to not valuing non academic work. Blue collar jobs typically are jobs that consist of any manual labor, these jobs include: Plumbers, servers, electricians, etc. These jobs tend to be viewed as low class, and unintelligent. On the other hand, jobs that are not blue collar jobs such as white collar jobs, tend to be more professional and higher class. This misconception is a problem with society, and is touched upon in Rose s article. Mike Rose s mother, and uncle both work blue collar jobs, inspiring his dis agreeance in the idea that Intelligence is closely associated with formal education the type of schooling a person has...and most people seem to move comfortably from that notion to a belief that work requiring less schooling requires less intelligence, (Rose 276). The guards held the keys to the entire cell block and it did not take long for the prisoners to take full advantage of the keys. Four beaten guards were released within hours of the attack but 8 were retained. The riot was started for many reasons but the most obvious reason was TB testing on Muslims, they do not believe in using needles to take blood or for injections. Some negotiators believe the riot could have ended hours after it had started when prisoners tried to negotiate using bullhorns but could not because of helicopters hovering so low. The media wasn t always a bad thing though one reporter was able to exchange a hostage to allow an inmate some air time. When the riot started the guards went into small rooms called safe wells. The rooms were made out of 2 layers of block and had steel reinforced doors. The doors did their job but the prisoners started to beat at the block walls with weight lifting bars. Soon they busted a hole into the room and dragged the guards through the walls. The guards were assigned men to watch them; these men were ordered to kill the guards if the prison came under attack. • 28. Effects Of Depth On Algal Growth Lynne Miranda OCB Lab Experiment 04/17/15 The Effects of Depth on Algal Growth in the Biscayne Bay. Introduction Biscayne Bay is located in South Florida and is home to many terrestrial and aquatic organisms. Over the years, humans have populated the land around Biscayne Bay, which has greatly altered the water quality. In a study done in 2011, anthropogenic affects in the bay were measured by testing for an overabundance of nutrients in the water (Carey et al, 2011). This is just one of the many studies that shows how and why the Biscayne Bay is affected by human activities. A major concern with the increase in nutrient to the water is that it leads to an accumulation of algae, which ultimately causes a surge in algal bloom (Levinton, 2013). Many studies around the world show the detrimental affects of harmful algal blooms, or HAB for short, and directly link the runoff of nutrients into the water as the key contributor to its frequency. An example of a study done in estuaries around New York showed that an increase in macro green algae, which is also found in Biscayne Bay, increases the growth of several other forms of harmful algae (Tang, 2011). In a more recent study conducted in 2013, Biscayne Bay was shown to have an increase in green macro algal blooms that are also linked to nutrient runoff in the bay and smother the sea grass habitats (Vides et al, 2013). Biscayne Bay is said to hold nutrient rich sediment (Carnehan et al., 2009). Algal blooms are responsible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Inhibitory or Excitatory Potential Changes Essay example Inhibitory or Excitatory Potential Changes MDMA affects the brain by increasing the activity of at least three neurotransmitters (the chemical messengers of brain cells): serotonin, dopamine, and nor epinephrine (The Brain s Response to Hallucinogens). This increase in activity can be either excitatory or inhibitory in nature depending on the neurotransmitter involved and which part of the reaction to the drug is taking place. Every area of the brain containing serotonin, dopamine, and/or norepinephrine is affected by MDMA, but the serotonergic and dopaminergic pathways are principally affected. This includes the neocortex and much of the limbic system. Within the limbic system, the hypothalamus, basal ganglia, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once in the synapse, MDMA binds to receptors on the postsynaptic neuron and causes a decrease in its firing rate. The presence of so much serotonin as well as MDMA activates many receptors on the postsynaptic neuron. There are approximately 15 different serotonin receptors, and the quantity of each type differs from person to person (Kalat 68). Because MDMA has an affinity for particular receptors and the quantity of those receptors can be so varied, the effects of MDMA are varied as well. This is why accounts from MDMA users change from person to person and from one use to the next. Whatever the quantity of receptors, MDMA binds to those it has an affinity for and causes the receptors to produce EPSP s. If enough EPSP s are sent to the cell body from the receptors then an electrical impulse will stimulate the release of more neurotransmitters into the synapse. It is the action at the serotonin synapses that are responsible for the hallucinogenic effects of MDMA. ...Ecstasy causes a sustained increase in the amount of serotonin in the synaptic space, leading to sustained activation of more serotonin receptors. This can produce an elevated mood (euphoria) (Hallucinogens). MDMA is a mixed agonist/ antagonist for serotonin. After its defeat in World War I, Germany was humiliated by the Versailles Treaty, which reduced its territory, drastically reduced its armed forces, demanded the recognition of its guilt for the war, and stipulated it pay reparations to the allied powers. Therefore with the German Empire destroyed, a new parliamentary government was formed. And so, in 1933, Adolf Hitler, was named chancellor of Germany. After the Nazi party won in the elections of 1932, the Nazi party conducted propaganda campaigns. Propaganda appeared to depict the Nazi government as stepping in and restoring order. This propaganda was used to maintain power, implement policies, and justify the extermination of millions of Jews and others considered inferior by Hitler and the Nazi party. Therefore, Nazi ideology was defined as theories of racial hierarchy and Social Darwinism, which identified Germans as part of what Nazis regarded as an Aryan or master race. This ideology aimed to overcome social divisions and create a homogeneous societies, or national unity. The Nazis aimed to unite all Germans living in German territory, as well as gain additional lands for expansion. The first solution is having banks lower their interest rates for all citizens who are in financial need of an interest rate deduction. From the Nobel Prize website itself, the passage describes briefly and clearly elaborates on Albert Camus, mostly in the focus of his career, writing and otherwise his involvement in theatre. The main purpose of this piece is to inform people who are interested in the Nobel Prize selection and in Camus himself about him, providing a short synopsis on his background and his movement in his career from political journalism to writing essays, stories, and furthermore novels. Growing up, Camus expressed a deep interest to philosophy, which later prevailed in all of his publications as well as his Algerian upbringing. Although his fascinations to the mind and thought were definitely present, he was unable to attend university for philosophy; however, luck struck him when he was able to begin working as a columnist and later dabbled in theatre. In many of his works, he utilized the notion of absurdum and absence, seen heavily in The Myth of Sisyphus and further elaborated upon in the main character of Meursault in The Stranger. By gathering the pieces that occurred in Camus s life, it becomes clearer as to why he wrote the story the way it is and what it means, to him and to others. The question is , Who would bear the torments of the world we live in when he could settle everything himself with a mere dagger? Is a statement made by Hamlet In Shakespeare s play, The Tragedy Of Hamlet (III.I). The death of the king causes the royal family to have many problems. The death allowed Claudius, King Hamlet s brother to take the throne and the Queen s hand only shortly after, causing Hamlet to hate both of them. It also made Hamlet consider suicide, and undergo moments of self doubt and betrayal from Queen Gertrude. As well as the death of polonius which cause the fair Ophelia s suspicious death . Shakespeare brings up the thought of suicide often because the main character is going through a depressing stage of mourning throughout the play and has also considered ending his life a number of times throughout the play but struggles because he is stuck in the Elizabethan era which saw suicide as an unforgivable sin religiously, and as a total wrongdoing morally , but Hamlet thought aesthetically, Humans do not end their lives because they are afraid of wait will come , they rather bear the burdens and suffering they experience than to to an unknown world and never return again.. In fact, when European settlers came, their clash with the natives resulted in mass genocide.
