Gertrude Stein s Speech On Deconstruction In Theatre
Gertrude Stein on Deconstruction in Theatre In Laura Schultz s speech on Gertrude Stein s plays, she
suggests how Stein s deconstruction of dramatic conventions greatly affected contemporary theatre
today. She focuses on Stein s deconstruction of the mimetic relationship between the text and
performance, as well as the deconstruction of the unity of the dramatic character. Schultz discusses
how Stein was inspired by avant garde theatre in Europe, and is now one of the most influential
theatre artists (especially in the field of performance art), but is often overlooked in the academe in
theatre and performance studies, her plays are rarely read or researched. What is fascinating about
Stein s plays is that her language is open to new readings, without preference to one reading ... Show

Art and reality should not be represented through stable and mimetic means only; the transformation
from text to performance must also be considered in different terms. While the text is a work of art in
its own right, performance should not be limited to just the illustration of the text. The play is a
literary genre which implies that there is a performative aspect in all forms of writing and language.
She then points out that in a theatrical event, concretizing the play involves space and light, which are
more important to a child than the action on the stage. Generally speaking, all the early recollections
all a child s feeling of the theater is two things. One which is in a way like a circus that is the general
movement and light and air which any theatre has, and a great deal of glitter in the light and a great
deal of height in the air, and then there are moments, a very very few moments but still moments. One
must be pretty far advance in adolescence before one realizes a whole play. (Stein, Plays,

Changes- Tupac Shakur Influences on Society Essay
We talk a lot about Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr., but it s time to be like them, as strong as
them. They were mortal men like us and every one of us can be like them. I don t want to be a role
model. I just want to be someone who says, this is who I am, this is what I do. I say what s on my
mind. Tupac Amaru Shakur (T.I.P). This quote was spoken by one of hip hop s most legendary idols,
Tupac Shakur. Tupac has become an integral icon of the hip hop culture and will live on eternally
through his dynamic lyrics and poems. Most of Tupac s raps concerned growing up around violence
and hardships in ghettos, and racial inequality in the United States. He experienced many of these
factors growing up, especially race related ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a grammar and literacy to each of these forms of communication. Bombarded with a wide
variety of images regularly, students need sharp visual interpretation skills to interact with the media
analytically. Each form of communication has its own rules and grammar and should be taught in
ways that lead students to be more specific and concise in communicating (Edutopia).
So remediating a text through a different tool ultimately will change the way it is communicated to its
audience. For example, imagine the oratory medium that Tupac used to convey his hit song, Changes
was instead only a written form of the lyrics. This traditional technology would not only affect the
message behind the song but the audience s acceptance of it. The second way I have communicated
this song is visually. I have constructed a collage of what I thought the song was trying to convey. This
leaves area for the original message to be interpreted differently among each individual and losing
sight of the originality of it. Although these mediums are proper for some texts, I think that Tupac
choose the correct form, auditory to communicate his message. I began my remediation process

Analysis of Jonathan Harr´s A Civil Action Essay
Jonathan Harr wrote a compelling novel, called A Civil Action, on the actual events of a thrilling court
case involving two major corporations and the families who were affected greatly. In Woburn,
Massachusetts there were twenty eight children who contracted acute lymphocytic leukemia between
the years of 1964 and 1986. The explanation for the contraction of the disease and even the death of
some of the children was discovered in the water; two municipal wells near the town were found to be
contaminated with toxic chemicals. Eight families filed suit against W.R. Grace Co. and Beatrice
Foods Inc., accusing them for the contamination of the wells and the death of their children. The
families only wanted an apology and the truth but when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a conversation with Schlichtmann, Facher stated, the truth? I thought we were talking about a court
of law. Come on, you ve been around long enough to know that a courtroom isn t a place to look for
the truth. Facher also stated, truth is found at the bottom of a bottomless pit. If truth is never found in
court, it must ve taken a lot of nerve to take on the Woburn case. Facher s words provide proof that
achieving victory is far more important than providing the facts and discovering truth, in his opinion.
His actions and tactics indeed worked for him.
Furthermore, the chances of the plaintiff winning a civil court case are low. When it comes to it, a
settlement is commonly agreed on before a verdict is even presented. Schlichtmann didn t want the
case and refused at first because he knew it was going to be tough. He explained his reasons for not
wanting the case in his quote:
The odds of a plaintiff s lawyer winning in civil court are two to one against. Think about that for a
second. Your odds of surviving a game of Russian roulette are better than winning a case at trial. 12
times better. So why does anyone do it? They don t. They settle. Out of the 780,000, only 12,000 or
11/2 percent ever reach a verdict. The whole idea of lawsuits is to settle, to compel the other side to
settle. And you do that by spending more money than you should, which forces them to spend more
money than they should, and

Modern Day Leadership Is Not Black And White
In my short but fulfilling career I have had many opportunities to lead different groups and
organizations. These organizations have been in a vast number of areas such as for profit, non profit,
community based and governmental agencies. These unique set of experiences have given me a
different understanding of leadership in different fields and allows me to take the best in each and
apply it to the other. Leadership to me is not a definable word rather it is a living theory that changes
through generational spans. Therefore, I think the best theory or style of leadership has to be a mix of
all theory s and concepts. From understanding your true north and what induvial traits, skills and
abilities you as a leader have to different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a leader, I need to inspire those around me to succeed and reach for the impossible. It is my job to
form the effective team because a leader is only as good as those around him. As I mentioned above
Leadership to me is living and breathing theory idea. If you take a look at the different theories, from
Trait, Behavioral, Situational, New Leadership and Emerging each has built off of each other
(Northouse, 2014). As our society continues to develop and people become educated our
understanding will increase not because we are growing but because more people are questioning and
are asking why they are being told what to do.
An example of what typifies leadership to me is a contrary to what a leader should do. As the elected
secretary in my masonic fraternity it is my job to see the lodge business in conducted in accordance to
all fraternal rules and governmental laws. Our organizational hierarchy is as follows; Worshipful
Master, Senior Warden, Junior Warden, and Secretary. In a business organization that would correlate
as follows, President, Senior Vice President, Vice President, and Chief Operating Officer. That being
said, during my 5 years in office I have had five different leaders and five different archetypes that
really define how I look at leadership (George, 2007). The worst by far was the rationalizer (George,
2007). As I mentioned before in one of my weekly posts

Edgar Allan Poe was an American writer, editor, and literary critic in the early 1800s. Poe s short

Christian Truths in the Screwtape Lettters by C.S. Lewis...
The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis is a book of thirty one letters in which a retired, senior demon
named Screwtape coaches his newly educated nephew, Wormwood. Wormwood is quite troubled
when it comes to tempting his patient. Nevertheless, he need not fear because faithful uncle Screwtape
has offered his services. A unique character featured in the letters is, The Enemy. This character refers
to God, the natural enemy of Satan. Of course Satan is referred to as Our Lord. In the letters, and

...Our cause is never more in danger than when a human, no longer desiring but still intending to do
our enemies will, looks round a universe from which every trace of him seems to have vanished, and
ask why he has been forsaken and still obeys (Lewis, 39). What truths are you looking at if you have
never come to know that truths of the Christian faith? Clearly the entire story s focal point is demonic,
literally. Joanie Riche writes, It has helped me gain an understanding of how he forces of darkness try
to undermine joy and truth (Riche). That is exactly what the dangerous duo is trying to prove. That
they can push this poor human to such limits that he/she will forget that God ever played a positive

Many people are raised to be unbelievers. It does not matter to these devils, they are going to hell
either way. In contrast, the Enemy holds a prominent position in the novel whether evident to most or

you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide a way of escape that
you may be able to endure it. (1 Corinthians 10:13). Screwtape often tells that the Enemy

The law of demand and supply is a key basis for the wage determination in the capitalistic economy.
The more the demand for employment is present, the lesser the employers, in this case, the rich, are
willing to pay. This point of view suggests that the employer seems to have leverage in setting the
wages, especially where the economy has no full employment. In the US, there is always need for
employment and that gives the employers a reason to lower wages since people are desperate for jobs.
Karl Marx suggested that the employer will only give the employees just enough so that they might

The Handmaid s Tale versus I Will Keep Broken Things Essay
People require energy to function. Energy is provided by fuel. For humans, fuel is not simply food and
water, but rather, love and a sense of meaning. This is the truth; life is not complete without love. In
The Handmaid s Tale by Margaret Atwood, handmaid is the name given to a women placed within a
Commander s home for the purpose of reproduction. Offred is the narrator of this dystopian society,
and she bears the burden of being separated from her husband and daughter to fulfill her new role in

Similarly, the narrator of the poem cherishes: The

broken because it is shared between two people, one of which is no longer present. It becomes a lock
with two keys, one of which is missing. This excerpt gives insight that the narrator is suffering a loss
related to a relationship of some kind, presumably romantic, as suggested by the use of the word
delicious. Despite a loss of such close proximity, the narrator can take this memory and cherish it. She
must come to the realization that this memory remains the same, despite a newly acquired absence.
The memories of these two characters are not altered by the present, and can still be used to bring
happiness through reflection and joyful revelations of the past. Offred and Walker s narrator both use
memories as motivators. For as long as somebody is thinking of someone, they are not truly gone. A
life devoid of love creates a period of vigorous mental instability and often opens eyes and promotes
changes in lifestyle and perspective. This transformation is almost never a smooth one, and somebody

Reflective Essay On Service
To do service is to help others and to do justice is to serve. With limited service experience and
minimal justice work, I have a different understanding of what justice is and how I can do it as a
professional. The service work that I have done while at Creighton happened during my freshman
year. My idea of justice comes from how I was raised, some personal experience, and one of the
readings that was discussed in class.
My experience with service while at Creighton started and ended my freshman year with the
Freshman Leadership Program. Because this service experience was three years ago I do not
remember all of the details and conversations that I had while doing this service, following is what I
remember of my service experiences. One of the service sites that I went to through this program was
the South Omaha Boys and Girls Club. At the club the members of the program were asked to play
with the kids, helped the children make crafts, and teach kids from 12 to 14 years of age about
bullying.
When I think about how I was feeling about this service I did not really understand how I was helping
out the organization or how this was really considered service. I was just walking around talking to
kids who could care less if I was there or not. When I think of who really benefitted from me going to
this service site once a week, my list starts with institutions, Creighton University, the Freshman
Leadership Program, the Boys and Girls Club. Then on a lesser scale

Aspects Of Abortion In Ethical Medical Practices
The Moral Aspects of Abortion in Ethical Medical Practices
Although moral degradation among the youth in the United States portrays abortion as a vice that robs
innocent infants the right to life, ethical medical practices may indicate abortion as a life saving
procedure. While there may exist unsafe and unprofessional means of medically performing abortion
among adolescent girls, ethical medical practices may regulate the risks involved such as health
complications and death, in order to promote the health benefits of abortion. Since there exist
medically upright physicians motivated by a noble course, the adverse effects of abortion in young
women may be controlled through professional services without much health risks and exploitation.
Therefore, it is empirical that the high rate of fetal, teenage and youthful women death rate through
unwanted pregnancy which leads to a disputing perception of abortion may be corrected through
principled medical practices.

Not Enough Synonyms for Responsibility
In the grand scheme of my life thus far, my childhood has transitioned to adulthood in a rather gradual

Summary Of Newell s Corporate Strategy
Analysis of NEWELL s Corporate Strategy Over the years, Newell Company has followed the
philosophy as described by Dan Ferguson, build on what we do best . The basic strategy was to
merchandise a multi product offering of staple products with excellent customer service to maximize
stockholder s return. This philosophy prompted the strategy of growth through acquisition, where
acquisition not only increased the product offerings to the big retailers, but also provided the
opportunity to sell other items. This strategy helped Newell diversify its portfolio of products for the
mass retailers. The rationale was that the company s large number of product range and depth would
add value to the multi product offerings and make Newell a more important supplier. Newell acquired
underperforming companies that manufactured low technology non fashionable products and added
value by improving their operational efficiency through its operational, manufacturing and distribution
capabilities. Hence, growth through acquisition was very profitable to Newell s corporate strategy.
Newell s key capabilities and resources are all aligned with its corporate strategy of growth through
acquisition and serving the mass retailers through diversified portfolios and efficient distribution
systems. Newell thrived by following a disciplined and aggressive two pronged approach of following

Germany s Tug Of War For Unification
Germany s Tug of War for Unification
In the relatively short one hundred and thirty three years that Germany has been a nation, its borders
have grown, shrunk, and changed hands many times. While currently it is a rather stable nation that
most likely finally has established itself for the foreseeable future, it looks nothing like it did those
133 years ago. Even less than twenty five years ago it was a totally different nation than it is today.
Germany s volatile borders of the past combined with its origins as a bunch of independent states

This was the first time Germany was a centralized nation. There was the German Confederation which
came about in 1815, to replace the Holy Roman Empire, or the First Reich. The German
Confederation was comprised of 41 German states; this was not a government, however, more an
agreement not to fight each other, and a promise to defend each other in the case of war. The states
were still ruled by monarchies and there was no sort of currency or government body. In 1848 there
was an attempt to unify the German states into a single nation. It was brought about by a revolution,
which caused elections to be held, and a constitution to be drafted. This movement basically crashed
and burned, however. There was debate because Austria Hungary was part of the confederation but the
National Assembly which was convened felt Austria Hungary was too large and only really wanted the
German speaking half in the nation. They didn t have the power to break up the state so leadership of
the state would have fallen on the Prussian Emperor. He did not like the idea of having to act on behalf
of the will of the people and rejected being emperor. This was basically the final nail in the coffin for
that and the rebellion was then squashed. In 1866 following a war with Austria, the German
confederation was replaced by the North German Confederation which was led by the Prussians and
was cut down to 17 states. When the Second Reich was established, Bismarck remained

How Did Justinian Influence Architecture
Justinian Justinian I was a ruler in the Byzantine Empire from 527 to 565 CE. When he first came into
power Justinian I was not favored by the overall population. Procopius, a scholar and historian in the
6th century, described Justinian as a man both an evil doer and easily led into evil, the sort of a person
whom they call a moral pervert, never of his own accord speaking the truth to those with whom he
conversed, but having a deceitful and crafty intent behind every word and action. Also the Nika Riots
were revolts against Justinian s rule that took place in Constantinople over the span of a week. This
resulted in the death of thirty thousand people. But despite the early animosity towards Justinian s
reign it is clear that Justinian brought prosperity to the Byzantine Empire during and after his rule.

Justinian sought to rebuild the former glory of the Roman Empire and he started after the Nika Riots
in 532. Since most of Constantinople was burnt down during the riots Justinian decided to rebuild the
capital into a much more magnificent city and it all started with the reconstruction of the Hagia
Sophia. The Hagia Sophia was the most prominent church in the Roman Empire and Justinian had the
church designed by architects Isidore of Miletus and Anthemius of Tralles. The church has a massive
dome ceiling which was a huge feat for construction builders during the post classical age. There were
40 windows which helped to bring in light and illuminate the many mosaics inside the church. The
mosaics were icons popular to the Eastern Orthodox faith such as Christ, angels and crosses. The
Hagia Sophia has two levels and stands at 180 feet tall. There was a Narthex (antechamber at the
western entrance of early Christian churches) used only for the emperor and it lead to the second level

Plant Proteases Advantages
Proteases are the most important type of enzymes because they represent ca. 60% of all
commercialized enzymes in the world and occupy the most relevant position among industrial
enzymes. Plant proteases have various applications such as in detergent manufacturing, in medicine,
and food science for many years (Siota and Villa, 2010). The most frequently employed plant
proteases are papain, bromelain and ficin, although new proteases with new and more appealing
physicochemical properties for industry are still emerging. Plant enzymes (such as papain, bromelain,
and ficin) have been extensively used as meat tenderizers. New plant proteases such as actinidin and
zingibain and microbial enzyme preparations have been of recent interest due to controlled meat
tenderization and other advantages.

Herbal Remedies and Poisons in Elizabethan Times
In this day and age, there are millions of pharmaceuticals out there for all kinds of diseases and
conditions, but where did all of this start? The creation of medicines most likely started when people
discovered the healing properties plants contained. Today, mankind has the knowledge and technology
to extract elements from plants to produce more chemically engineered medicines. The real question is
how did medicines develop from mashing up leaves in order to lessen an infuriating rash to just
popping a pill to nurse or illness? Medicines evolved by the scientific method: series of research and
experiments. During the Elizabethan era, research and experimentation attained a renewed interest. ...

Walt Disney s Maternal Archetypes
An archetype by definition is, an original model or pattern from which other later copies are made,
especially a character ( Literary Terms and Definitions A. ) I based myself on recurring images which
include animals and the passing of the maternal symbol. Walt Disney was the first to combine both
recurring images to portray the importance of the maternal archetype. He did so on widely known
animated films in the United States. Walt Disney, the creator of a plethora of Disney films, was the
first to establish a special relationship between the mother and the child of commonly known animals.
He did so on a notable amount of animated films. Disney uses emotion as one of his strongest focal
points. Through the use of emotion, the audience is able to relate to the story. Walt Disney s skillful
use of sentiment creates new ways of seeing the maternal archetype. He uses symbolic animal
archetypes and the aspect of an unstable family to Walt Disney further develop the importance of the

Little Mermaid Descriptive
Descriptive The picture books are spread out across the table, with their vibrant colors and hard

in my hand one after another, taking in the fresh new book smell. This book is titled, The Little

every one by heart (Zipes, Fairy Tales and the Art of Subversion 207). For bedtime, Mom brings the

everything in order. A financial plan is a full evaluation of a person s current and future finances in a

Financial planning started in the 1960s, after the World War 2. When World War 2 ended people

The menacing power that the Boston Catholic Church practiced pre 2002 period while the sexual

possess a lot of power or acquire a lot of prominence, but as the make up of the population changed

The Massachusetts Bay colony during the mid 1700s was a largely Puritan based community where
Roman Catholics did not have much influence socially or politically. Roman Catholics were not

Massachusetts area, the number of Irish Catholics in Boston had risen to some two thousand by 1820,
to more than five thousand by 1825, and to just past the seven thousand mark by 1830. The Catholic
population slowly began to compete against the Protestant population for power in Boston. By the mid

Educational Philosophies Influence Curriculum From The...
Abstract
Educational philosophies influence curriculum from the establishment of the American school
systems. The five major philosophies that have influence American education are: 1) Idealism, 2)
Essentialism, 3) Perennialism, 4) Progressivism, and 5) Experimentalism. Idealism, Essentialism, and
Perennialism are all teacher based philosophies putting the teacher at the core of the educational
experience, with students being passive members of the classroom. In contrast, Progressivism and
Experimentalism are student centered philosophies that focus on the child and their contribution and
participation in the formation of classroom experiences, using teachers as guides to help students in
their educational development. Although the philosophies differ, many of them define curriculum as a
encompassing unit of goals, methods, materials and assessment.

remembering the Reagan family. Hollis had never felt a sense of belonging and unconditional love,
until she met the Reagans. Blaming herself for an occuring accident, Hollis flees from them and is
taken into another home. Once again, Hollis finds comfort and love when living with Josie, an art

Poverty And Homelessness
Poverty and homelessness are very serious problems in the United States. In January of 2013 the count
of people identified as homeless was larger than 600,000 (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). Many factors go
into what makes this population so large, however this paper will focus on how much race plays a role
in homelessness and poverty.
Systems (Ecological) Theory Systems theory is a perspective that places emphasis on understanding
how people fit into their environments (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). In systems theory if a specific
person, let s call them Greg, has one system that s not functioning properly, then the rest of their
systems will most likely not work as well (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). Greg is homeless, and his
family won t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
White homeless women had higher rates of hospitalization than homeless women of color (Jones,
2016). When talking about poverty, which is very obviously related to homelessness, people of color
are far more likely to be in poverty than white people. In 2012 the median income for households of
people of color, $33,321 for black households, and $39,005 for latinx households, was much lower
than white households, $57,009 (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). This means that households of color
earned less than two thirds less than white households (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). If people of color
are making less than white people, and face discrimination in employment as well as housing, then it s
obvious why they are more likely to be in poverty and experience homelessness. To combat the
discrimination that homeless people face, social workers often must push for a change in a way that
will allow for one of their main systems, security, to be stable. One example of how this is done is by
doing something that s called rapid re housing. Rapid re housing is the process of immediately
removing families out of homelessness and into permanent housing by aiding in deposits, rent, and
utilities (Homelessness, 2015). Before rapid re housing they would place people in run down homes
for at maximum of two years. Not only does rapid re housing cost less, but it has an 85% outcome of
households being stably housed after the assistance ends (Johnston Kunkel, 2014).

Zarley s Actions
Ethics is the critical and structured examination that is responsible for how individuals and institutions
should behave when their actions affect others. In order to make the right decision, it is important to
consider the four types of ethical reasoning. These include consequences, fairness/justice, rights and
duties, and character/virtue.1 Laws are responsible for enforcing rules that have been created and
accepted by society and the government. Moreover, ethical and legal reasoning are closely related.
They both involve reasoning about what it would be OK to do, or about weather past behaviour was
right or wrong (legally or ethically) .1 This essay will examine the ethical and legal aspects of Zarley s
actions. While analyzing the ethical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, Zarley s actions directly link him to a breach of contract. This would mean that Zarley did
not act legally in the case. His employment contract states that all bank employees are required to
comply with the Code of Business Conduct (the Code ) ,1 which indicates that if we are approached
by an employee, supplier, client, government representative, or other third party with an opportunity to
engage in [bribery], we will report the incident to our manager, or through the confidential ethics
hotline .1 This part of the contract makes it very clear that if an opportunity to engage in bribery
occurs, it should be reported to a manager or through a confidential ethics hotline. However, even
though Zarley does not accept the bribe, he does not report it, which would be considered illegal, as it
is a breach of contract. This means that Zarley did not act legally in this instance.
In this case, Zarley s actions would be considered ethically right. This is because he wants to promote
good consequences and he is trying to avoid bad consequences, for everyone involved, in the long run.
He decides not to tell his supervisor about the bribe because Brady seems like a nice guy and he does
not want Brady to get into any kind of

Globalization Of Cambodia
In the agricultural side of their economy, the rice sector, while still significant to the overall economy
has found that its share of GDP has fallen sharply from about 55 per cent in the early 1990s to one
third currently (Hill Menon, 2014). Furthermore, cambodia uses a lot of political affairs to sustain the
economy. Cambodia is one of the most highly open economy in the Asia,Pacific region but with
limitation on trade and capital flows (Hill Menon, 2014).
B. Population characteristics According to 2017 population data, Cambodia is home to 16,083,822
people ( Cambodia population, n.d.). The population within Cambodia can be considered relatively
homogenous, with 90% of the population being of Khmer origin and speaking ... Show more content

Even still, we see that Cambodia is ranked 143/188 for human development, which shows that there is
still work to be done when it comes to their overall human development. Cambodia has a significant
amount of land (176,515 sq km) but also maintains a large population so development when it comes
to land is unlikely, unless the government was able to acquire land from nearby territories. With Prime
Minister Hun Sen having been in power since 1998 and there being a significant amount of political
unrest prior to that, it appears as if there is a need for further governmental development to better
relate to the people who live in Cambodia.
The Human Development Index for Cambodia shares data about gender inequality within the country,
emphasizing the need for human development within this country. For the Gender Inequality Index,
Cambodia is ranked 112 out of 159 countries for gender inequality ( Cambodia, n.d.). What has
become apparent from the data presented on the standard of living within Cambodia, is that there
needs to be a greater emphasis on human development and decreasing inequality within the country. If
citizens are living happier and more healthy lives, the implications for the economic and governmental

Complications Of The Sweet Potato
AG The sweet potato led to the death of well over a million people. Now, the sweet potato did not
directly kill all these people, but it did contribute to those deaths. On the other hand, the sweet potato
also saved many lives for the Chinese population. The sweet potato among other new world crops
were over monocropped. This meant that they were singularly planted, this drained the nutrients from
the soil. The sweet potato was the most popular crop coming from the New World because corn
competed with rice. The sweet could be planted almost anywhere. It also led to deforestation. The
problem is significant because the deforestation made the floods even more popular. Which caused
hundreds of floods. The floods led to the death of millions of people. When the floods occurred they
took away crops, soil, and nutrients in the soil. The best solution is to stop monocropping and plant a
diverse amount of crops in the area each year. Another great solution is to continue planting more
trees.
1 The introduction of the sweet potato had effects on the Chinese environment. 2 The sweet potato
was introduced to China from the Philippines by ships that were crossing the Atlantic, around the
1580s. The sweet potato likely came from the Central or South Americas. It was also monocropped by
the Chinese. The sweet potato came to China in a very important time. At the time, China had a fourth
of the world s population. They needed to feed these people on a twelfth of the world s farmable

  • 2. Gertrude Stein s Speech On Deconstruction In Theatre Gertrude Stein on Deconstruction in Theatre In Laura Schultz s speech on Gertrude Stein s plays, she suggests how Stein s deconstruction of dramatic conventions greatly affected contemporary theatre today. She focuses on Stein s deconstruction of the mimetic relationship between the text and performance, as well as the deconstruction of the unity of the dramatic character. Schultz discusses how Stein was inspired by avant garde theatre in Europe, and is now one of the most influential theatre artists (especially in the field of performance art), but is often overlooked in the academe in theatre and performance studies, her plays are rarely read or researched. What is fascinating about Stein s plays is that her language is open to new readings, without preference to one reading ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Art and reality should not be represented through stable and mimetic means only; the transformation from text to performance must also be considered in different terms. While the text is a work of art in its own right, performance should not be limited to just the illustration of the text. The play is a literary genre which implies that there is a performative aspect in all forms of writing and language. She then points out that in a theatrical event, concretizing the play involves space and light, which are more important to a child than the action on the stage. Generally speaking, all the early recollections all a child s feeling of the theater is two things. One which is in a way like a circus that is the general movement and light and air which any theatre has, and a great deal of glitter in the light and a great deal of height in the air, and then there are moments, a very very few moments but still moments. One must be pretty far advance in adolescence before one realizes a whole play. (Stein, Plays, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Changes- Tupac Shakur Influences on Society Essay We talk a lot about Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr., but it s time to be like them, as strong as them. They were mortal men like us and every one of us can be like them. I don t want to be a role model. I just want to be someone who says, this is who I am, this is what I do. I say what s on my mind. Tupac Amaru Shakur (T.I.P). This quote was spoken by one of hip hop s most legendary idols, Tupac Shakur. Tupac has become an integral icon of the hip hop culture and will live on eternally through his dynamic lyrics and poems. Most of Tupac s raps concerned growing up around violence and hardships in ghettos, and racial inequality in the United States. Bombarded with a wide variety of images regularly, students need sharp visual interpretation skills to interact with the media analytically. Each form of communication has its own rules and grammar and should be taught in ways that lead students to be more specific and concise in communicating (Edutopia). So remediating a text through a different tool ultimately will change the way it is communicated to its audience. For example, imagine the oratory medium that Tupac used to convey his hit song, Changes was instead only a written form of the lyrics. This traditional technology would not only affect the message behind the song but the audience s acceptance of it. The second way I have communicated this song is visually. I have constructed a collage of what I thought the song was trying to convey. This leaves area for the original message to be interpreted differently among each individual and losing sight of the originality of it. Although these mediums are proper for some texts, I think that Tupac choose the correct form, auditory to communicate his message. I began my remediation process ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis of Jonathan Harr´s A Civil Action Essay Jonathan Harr wrote a compelling novel, called A Civil Action, on the actual events of a thrilling court case involving two major corporations and the families who were affected greatly. In Woburn, Massachusetts there were twenty eight children who contracted acute lymphocytic leukemia between the years of 1964 and 1986. The explanation for the contraction of the disease and even the death of some of the children was discovered in the water; two municipal wells near the town were found to be contaminated with toxic chemicals. Eight families filed suit against W.R. Grace Co. and Beatrice Foods Inc., accusing them for the contamination of the wells and the death of their children. The families only wanted an apology and the truth but when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a conversation with Schlichtmann, Facher stated, the truth? I thought we were talking about a court of law. Come on, you ve been around long enough to know that a courtroom isn t a place to look for the truth. Facher also stated, truth is found at the bottom of a bottomless pit. If truth is never found in court, it must ve taken a lot of nerve to take on the Woburn case. Facher s words provide proof that achieving victory is far more important than providing the facts and discovering truth, in his opinion. His actions and tactics indeed worked for him. Furthermore, the chances of the plaintiff winning a civil court case are low. When it comes to it, a settlement is commonly agreed on before a verdict is even presented. Schlichtmann didn t want the case and refused at first because he knew it was going to be tough. He explained his reasons for not wanting the case in his quote: The odds of a plaintiff s lawyer winning in civil court are two to one against. Think about that for a second. Your odds of surviving a game of Russian roulette are better than winning a case at trial. 12 times better. So why does anyone do it? They don t. They settle. Out of the 780,000, only 12,000 or 11/2 percent ever reach a verdict. The whole idea of lawsuits is to settle, to compel the other side to settle. These organizations have been in a vast number of areas such as for profit, non profit, community based and governmental agencies. These unique set of experiences have given me a different understanding of leadership in different fields and allows me to take the best in each and apply it to the other. Leadership to me is not a definable word rather it is a living theory that changes through generational spans. As a leader, I need to inspire those around me to succeed and reach for the impossible. It is my job to form the effective team because a leader is only as good as those around him. As I mentioned above Leadership to me is living and breathing theory idea. If you take a look at the different theories, from Trait, Behavioral, Situational, New Leadership and Emerging each has built off of each other (Northouse, 2014). As our society continues to develop and people become educated our understanding will increase not because we are growing but because more people are questioning and are asking why they are being told what to do. An example of what typifies leadership to me is a contrary to what a leader should do. As the elected secretary in my masonic fraternity it is my job to see the lodge business in conducted in accordance to all fraternal rules and governmental laws. Our organizational hierarchy is as follows; Worshipful Master, Senior Warden, Junior Warden, and Secretary. In a business organization that would correlate as follows, President, Senior Vice President, Vice President, and Chief Operating Officer. That being said, during my 5 years in office I have had five different leaders and five different archetypes that really define how I look at leadership (George, 2007). With limited service experience and minimal justice work, I have a different understanding of what justice is and how I can do it as a professional. The service work that I have done while at Creighton happened during my freshman year. My idea of justice comes from how I was raised, some personal experience, and one of the readings that was discussed in class. My experience with service while at Creighton started and ended my freshman year with the Freshman Leadership Program. • 17. Aspects Of Abortion In Ethical Medical Practices The Moral Aspects of Abortion in Ethical Medical Practices Although moral degradation among the youth in the United States portrays abortion as a vice that robs innocent infants the right to life, ethical medical practices may indicate abortion as a life saving procedure. While there may exist unsafe and unprofessional means of medically performing abortion among adolescent girls, ethical medical practices may regulate the risks involved such as health complications and death, in order to promote the health benefits of abortion. The German Confederation was comprised of 41 German states; this was not a government, however, more an agreement not to fight each other, and a promise to defend each other in the case of war. The states were still ruled by monarchies and there was no sort of currency or government body. In 1848 there was an attempt to unify the German states into a single nation. It was brought about by a revolution, which caused elections to be held, and a constitution to be drafted. This movement basically crashed and burned, however. There was debate because Austria Hungary was part of the confederation but the National Assembly which was convened felt Austria Hungary was too large and only really wanted the German speaking half in the nation. They didn t have the power to break up the state so leadership of the state would have fallen on the Prussian Emperor. He did not like the idea of having to act on behalf of the will of the people and rejected being emperor. This was basically the final nail in the coffin for that and the rebellion was then squashed. You have to keep looking to find the truth. ― Patricia Reilly Giff, Pictures of Hollis Woods. A good book should contain morals with a clever way of demonstrating them, be captivating so the reader can become engaged, and give the reader a new perspective over life and companionship. The book Pictures of Hollis Woods is a piece of artwork that everyone should be subjected to reading, for it provides evidence that unconditional love exists and should be embraced. Pictures of Hollis Woods is a breathtaking beauty that will make the reader eager to finish reading. Such book also depicts an understanding of existence and true friendship. The book Pictures of Hollis Woods is one of perplexity in which the life of eleven year old Hollis Woods, who was abandoned and a foster child, leaves from house to house in search of acceptance and a home. • 38. Poverty And Homelessness Poverty and homelessness are very serious problems in the United States. In January of 2013 the count of people identified as homeless was larger than 600,000 (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). Many factors go into what makes this population so large, however this paper will focus on how much race plays a role in homelessness and poverty. Systems (Ecological) Theory Systems theory is a perspective that places emphasis on understanding how people fit into their environments (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). In systems theory if a specific person, let s call them Greg, has one system that s not functioning properly, then the rest of their systems will most likely not work as well (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). Greg is homeless, and his family won t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... White homeless women had higher rates of hospitalization than homeless women of color (Jones, 2016). When talking about poverty, which is very obviously related to homelessness, people of color are far more likely to be in poverty than white people. In 2012 the median income for households of people of color, $33,321 for black households, and $39,005 for latinx households, was much lower than white households, $57,009 (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). This means that households of color earned less than two thirds less than white households (Segal, Gerdes, Sue, 2016). If people of color are making less than white people, and face discrimination in employment as well as housing, then it s obvious why they are more likely to be in poverty and experience homelessness. To combat the discrimination that homeless people face, social workers often must push for a change in a way that will allow for one of their main systems, security, to be stable. One example of how this is done is by doing something that s called rapid re housing. Rapid re housing is the process of immediately removing families out of homelessness and into permanent housing by aiding in deposits, rent, and utilities (Homelessness, 2015). Before rapid re housing they would place people in run down homes for at maximum of two years. Not only does rapid re housing cost less, but it has an 85% outcome of households being stably housed after the assistance ends (Johnston Kunkel, 2014). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Zarley s Actions Ethics is the critical and structured examination that is responsible for how individuals and institutions should behave when their actions affect others. In order to make the right decision, it is important to consider the four types of ethical reasoning. These include consequences, fairness/justice, rights and duties, and character/virtue.1 Laws are responsible for enforcing rules that have been created and accepted by society and the government. Moreover, ethical and legal reasoning are closely related. They both involve reasoning about what it would be OK to do, or about weather past behaviour was right or wrong (legally or ethically) .1 This essay will examine the ethical and legal aspects of Zarley s actions. This would mean that Zarley did not act legally in the case. His employment contract states that all bank employees are required to comply with the Code of Business Conduct (the Code ) ,1 which indicates that if we are approached by an employee, supplier, client, government representative, or other third party with an opportunity to engage in [bribery], we will report the incident to our manager, or through the confidential ethics hotline .1 This part of the contract makes it very clear that if an opportunity to engage in bribery occurs, it should be reported to a manager or through a confidential ethics hotline. However, even though Zarley does not accept the bribe, he does not report it, which would be considered illegal, as it is a breach of contract. This means that Zarley did not act legally in this instance. In this case, Zarley s actions would be considered ethically right. This is because he wants to promote good consequences and he is trying to avoid bad consequences, for everyone involved, in the long run. He decides not to tell his supervisor about the bribe because Brady seems like a nice guy and he does not want Brady to get into any kind of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Globalization Of Cambodia In the agricultural side of their economy, the rice sector, while still significant to the overall economy has found that its share of GDP has fallen sharply from about 55 per cent in the early 1990s to one third currently (Hill Menon, 2014). Even still, we see that Cambodia is ranked 143/188 for human development, which shows that there is still work to be done when it comes to their overall human development. Cambodia has a significant amount of land (176,515 sq km) but also maintains a large population so development when it comes to land is unlikely, unless the government was able to acquire land from nearby territories. With Prime Minister Hun Sen having been in power since 1998 and there being a significant amount of political unrest prior to that, it appears as if there is a need for further governmental development to better relate to the people who live in Cambodia. The Human Development Index for Cambodia shares data about gender inequality within the country, emphasizing the need for human development within this country. For the Gender Inequality Index, Cambodia is ranked 112 out of 159 countries for gender inequality ( Cambodia, n.d.). What has become apparent from the data presented on the standard of living within Cambodia, is that there needs to be a greater emphasis on human development and decreasing inequality within the country. If citizens are living happier and more healthy lives, the implications for the economic and governmental systems ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
• 42. Complications Of The Sweet Potato AG The sweet potato led to the death of well over a million people. Now, the sweet potato did not directly kill all these people, but it did contribute to those deaths. On the other hand, the sweet potato also saved many lives for the Chinese population. The sweet potato among other new world crops were over monocropped. This meant that they were singularly planted, this drained the nutrients from the soil. The sweet potato was the most popular crop coming from the New World because corn competed with rice. The sweet could be planted almost anywhere. It also led to deforestation. The problem is significant because the deforestation made the floods even more popular. Which caused hundreds of floods. The floods led to the death of millions of people. When the floods occurred they took away crops, soil, and nutrients in the soil. The best solution is to stop monocropping and plant a diverse amount of crops in the area each year. Another great solution is to continue planting more trees. 1 The introduction of the sweet potato had effects on the Chinese environment. 2 The sweet potato was introduced to China from the Philippines by ships that were crossing the Atlantic, around the 1580s. The sweet potato likely came from the Central or South Americas. It was also monocropped by the Chinese. The sweet potato came to China in a very important time. At the time, China had a fourth of the world s population. They needed to feed these people on a twelfth of the world s farmable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
