Avid Strategies For Curricular Enhancement
According to the AVID Strategies for Curricular Enhancement Article, AVID is a system of best
practices in teaching and learning that has successfully helped more than 400,000 learners over the
past 30 years. The main goal of AVID is to close the achievement gap by preparing students for
college readiness and success in a global society. One of AVID strategies is the Active Learning
Methods, also known as ALMS. Active Learning Methodologies (ALMs) are strategies that AVID
teachers and trainers have used very effectively to engage students in active learning. The more that it
is being used the more quickly students continue to engage and respond. I believe an effective teacher
keeps their students engaged and responsive to the lesson that is being taught. This strategy can be
benefiting because it has an effective way to keep my students engaged in the lesson and attentive and
responsive being taught.
Another AVID strategy is the writing strategy known as the Cornell Note Taking System. It includes
recording ideas and content, questioning, summarizing, reflecting, reviewing, and assessing. It
incorporates not only how to write notes, but also how students should use the notes they have
recorded. Using Cornell Notes can be very beneficial to my students because it helps to increase the
understanding of the topic. When they are studying for either a test or quiz, the student has a concise
but detailed and relevant record of previous classes. A study published in 2007 by

The Silent Generation
There are currently six living generations in the United States, each with different characteristics,
beliefs, and values. The things that define each generation s culture are derived from their history,
upbringing, and the lifestyle of their time. Our generation was born between 1980 and 2000. We are
called Millennials. We grew up in a technologically savvy world and have a high demand for instant
gratification. More specifically, we grew up in the South, which typically lends itself to being more
conservative, based on a stricter religious upbringing. These characteristics, along with others, define
who we are, what we believe, and how we view other generations.

It brought great changes to the lives of those living on the United States home front, especially to the
young lives of the Silent Generation. After the Great Depression, Americans were not interested in
getting involved in war. Unfortunately, war was inevitable. In 1940, President Roosevelt began taking
steps to prepare for war. Steve Wiegand explains that Roosevelt authorized the doubling of the US
Navy, pledged aid to allied countries being attacked, initiated the military draft which registered all
men between the ages of twenty one and thirty five (about sixteen million men), and began to order
attacks on deserving enemies (249). Wiegand describes December 7th, 1941, a day that shall live in
infamy, the day that Japan unexpectedly attacked Pearl Harbor and wiped out an unprecedented
number of militants and military equipment (250). The attack on America sparked patriotism and
unified the country. Work began immediately to gear up for the war. According to Wiegand, three
million men were drafted and called to active duty (249). This pulled fathers, brothers, sons, and in
some cases, mothers away from the home. Although most members of the Silent Generation were too
young to be drafted into the military at this time, the lack of father and mother figures at home
impacted their childhood. Four years later, after many deaths, bloody battles, and engagements, the
war came to an end when the

Mccarthyism In The Salem Witch Trials
The False Accusations of McCarthyism shown in The Salem Witch Trials The hunt for a scapegoat is
the easiest of all hunting expeditions, Dwight D. Eisenhower. You can distinguish from this that he is
trying to relay the message that when you re pursuing someone to blame, there are many people to
cast it on. This concept is pertinent to the Salem Witch Trials and the McCarthy trials because the
supposed witches and communists were just scapegoats for the fret that the common man had. In the
Witch Trials, there were 19 people hung, guilty of not confessing and naming names of other people
commit witchcraft. Joesph McCarthy of McCarthyism blacklisted hundreds of Americans, those who
decline to name names were later accompanied by unemployment. ... Show more content on

In Act two, Elizabeth says, But we sure never loved the Devil here. (p. 66). Later she is discovered
guilty of witchcraft and dodges the noose because they found out she was pregnant. In McCarthyism,
this would be someone declining the accusation, which generally didn t go well for them. This is
trialed by, in Act 3, You must understand, sir, that a person is either with this court or must be counted
against it, there is no road in between. (p. 94). Danforth said this to John Proctor. Proctor was speaking
out against the court, and was later hanged. In the McCarthy trials, this would mean if you didn t
support the trials, then you would be put on the blacklist. In Act 4, Proctor was confessing being a
witch, but he failed to name names and was still executed. Danforth was very upset that he didn t
accuse others and said, ...you have most certainly seen some person with the Devil... (p. 140) This
provides in these two events, confessing wasn t good enough, you were forced to name the names of
other guilty people. The lines from the play transition into ideas from

Slaughterhouse Five By Kurt Vonnegut
Kurt Vonnegut s book, Slaughterhouse Five, is full of historical context, scientific fiction themes,
modernistic themes, and even emphasizes the idea of free will. But Vonnegut s novel contains one
major theme of the destructiveness of war making the book anti war. Vonnegut uses a variety of
techniques to allude to this theme and he does it well. The combination of his writing style and his use
of humor to degrade the human in the event of war is highly effective in the fact that it causes the
reader to think about war, and how it affects not only soldiers but the innocent people who are caught
in the middle or the people who just do not belong there. Vonnegut does this through various genres of
humor: body humor, black humor, and even the humor in his style of writing. Vonnegut also shows the
lasting effects of the war on people involved through the main character, Billy Pilgrim, and his
journey through life struggling with his PTSD and conflicting philosophies caused by it. Kurt
Vonnegut s novel, Slaughterhouse Five shows the theme of anti war through humor and by Billy
Pilgrim s psychiatric state.
Vonnegut is a humorist in his style of writing. It is his signature style of writing ( So It Goes 3).
Humor can be found in every aspect of his writings and other works of literature. It can especially be
found in his style of writing. Vonnegut uses a very simple, straightforward prose style. (EXPLORING

Supernatural Character in Octavio Paz s Short Story, My...
Mexican born author, Octavio Paz, in his short story, My Life with the wave suggests the protagonist
is symbolic and then remains a supernatural character best understood in literal terms. He supports his
claim by showing the reader the speakers difficulty of finding a place for the wave out of the ocean,
how the protagonist suffers imprisonment for a crime he did not commit, and of how through the
death of the wave the protagonist is able to free himself from the pain and torment he faced when he
was engaged in a relationship with the wave. Paz s intention is to use the symbolism in order show the
negative side of falling in love. Octavio Paz adopts an intense tone for the somber reader. The short
story Life with the Wave, written by Octavio Paz leads us through an intense relationship between a
simple man and a wave. Octavio Paz uses the wave to symbolize a woman. The wave can also be seen
as changing just as humans do, she was a white plume of vapor then soon...fell in a fine rain (pg. 264).
It seemed like love at first sight, she refused to go back No, her decision was made. She couldn t go
back. I tried sweetness, hardness, irony. (pg.263) I explained to her that it was impossible, that life in
the city was not what she had been able to imagine with the ingenuousness of a wave that had never
left the sea. (pg. 263) She cried, screamed, hugged, and threatened. I had to apologize. (pg.263) The
wave is not a person; she is a thing with human emotions. The

Inclusive Education Summary
Summary
Inclusive education is about providing the best possible learning environment for students with
disabilities. The purpose of the article was to determine the disposition, skills, and knowledge of both
general and special education teachers as well as the school environment. The research suggests that
teachers must have open mindedness and be self aware when they teach in an inclusive classroom.
Many teachers provided answers that suggest that they understand the need and have the willingness
but lack the skills and knowledge while some simply lack the needed disposition to work with
children with disabilities. As a result, we can see that there is a need to further develop teacher s
professional skills as well as developing the emotional fortitude that is required to be effective at
teaching in a inclusive classroom. Literature Review Inclusive education is defined as an appropriate
learning environment for students with disabilities while in the general education (Lamar Dukes and
Dukes 2005). We have seen more and more students with disabilities being placed in inclusive
environments around the U.S and abroad (Cramer and Nevin 2006; Etscheldt 2006; Lindsay 2007; US
Department of Education 2007). Because of this integration of diverse student populations there is a
need to have more welcoming school environments, appropriate resources both in and outside the
classroom, and qualified professionals willing and able to meet the needs of

The Attack On Kaspersky Lab
In February 2014, there was a multi bank cyber heist which was discovered by Kaspersky Lab.
According to the report, the hackers infiltrated banks network system using tactics such as phishing to
gain access to sensitive data which was used to siphon money from banks. It was reported that, the
cybercriminal ring, known as Carbanak, siphoned more than $1 billion from banks around the world
(Kuranda). According to other sources, the criminals were not arrested and there were reports of
attempted attacked to other financial institution. So, the information technology security experts are on
high alert to prevent future attacks. The discovery of the attack on Kaspersky lab, which was named

Enter Three Witches Pros And Cons
A Critique of Enter Three Witches The book Enter Three Witches: A Story of Macbeth by Caroline B.
Cooney gives an account of fictional characters that could have existed in the play Macbeth by
William Shakespeare. The bookfollows the lives of Lady Mary, Ildred, Swin, Seyton, and Fleance.
The idea behind the book was ingenious and had many good qualities, but there were also some cons.
Frist to address the pros. Caroline Cooney did an excellent job on staying true to the story of Macbeth,
while showing it in the eyes of different characters. The characters also in her book were very well
rounded and the connection between a character and a reader is certainly there. For example, Swin in
the beginning of the story seemed like the oppressor

Diane Arbus Research Paper
American actress Emma Stone once stated, What sets you apart can sometimes feel like a burden and
it s not. And a lot of the time, it s what makes you great. Everyone must accept that they are different
in order to release a burden and reach their full potential. One can achieve great things following this
rule. Diane Arbus was an American photographer, she lived 1923 1971( Diane Arbus , 2010). Diane
Arbus created acceptance for the freaks in the world by focusing on them in her photos, she innovated
the field of photography by doing so, and illuminated the world and civilization s views.
She created art, starring non traditional people. Diane grew up pampered and with a strong sense of
what was and wasn t acceptable. ( Diane Nemerov Arbus. , 1998). The sense of being immune to the
hardships of life seemed hard for her. She had always fantasised but never shared it with anyone. She
did not show her diverse ideas until she was an adult, following her dream as a photographer. She took

Essay on Asian Women in the Eyes of Americans
Introduction
The history of Asian women has many facets. I am about to touch on two key monumental points over
a sixty year span that have shaped the views of Asian women in the eyes of Americans. As a brief
overview, from as early as the 1940s, Asian women were recruited to serve their soldiers during World
War II as sex slaves. Forty years later, the dawning of the 1980s brought about the desire of Asian
women into American households and sparked the mail order bride phenomenon. The beginning of a
new century has altered the lives of Asian women, in parts of Asia as well as in the United States of
America. I will give you a glimpse into their every day lives in their home country and site
observations to their strides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Afternoons would be reserved for middle ranking officers and evening hours for higher ranking
officers. Commanders of a military unit, or the camp where comfort stations existed, monopolized the
overnight stay privileges.
When the war ended, most comfort women were simply abandoned. The comfort women have been
hidden victims for over half a century. Having been victims of sexual violence, where a woman s
chastity is upheld as more important than life itself, many of these women have blamed themselves
and kept their sufferings from family members and the community, fearing tainting of the family
name.
Stetz and Oh indicate although WWII has ended and is now a mass piece of history, the comfort
women ordeal still exists today. They continue their isolated existence in poverty and poor health.
They have not regained their honor nor had their pains eased. These women continue to endure
insulting comments made by irresponsible Japanese officials and by neoconservative nationalists, who
claim that many Asian women were merely sex workers for money during WWII. As of the end of
January in 1998, the top aide to Japanese prime minister Hashimoto suggested that many women
became comfort women for money and that the Japanese military s use of these women was justified
by the moves of the times. Within a month of the inauguration of South Korean president Kim Dae

Against The Odds Summary
In the report called Against the Odds by Dylan Borchers, the readers are able to see a demonstration of
characteristics used in ideal reports. According to The Norton Field Guide, key features of a good
report include, a tightly focused topic, well researched information, a synthesis of ideas, various
writing strategies, clear definitions, and an appropriate design (Bullock et al. 145 46). In Borchers
report, his topic focuses on the presidential race between Democrat Harry S. Truman and Republican
Thomas E. Dewey. The report discusses the unexpected outcome of the 1948 presidential election and
does not stray from that topic. In addition, the author of the report uses information obtained from
research on the topic, as seen by his use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the author discusses that the change could have been a cause of late democratic voters,
overconfident Dewey voters who decided not to personally vote, a disconnection between Dewey and
the common people, or the determination and willingness that Truman showed the public by visiting
various states, cities, and towns to relate to people on a more personal level (Borchers 540 46). The
report included different writing styles as well, such as comparing Dewey s campaign to Truman s and
analyzing how their campaigns affected the final decision of the election. While the report did not
appear to include clear definitions, the words were not difficult to understand and the design of the
report was well organized. The design was formatted into proper MLA style including a header, title,
structured paragraphs, and a works cited page. The design of the report appropriately informed the
readers of important information associated with the topic and it even included visual aid with the
description, President Harry S. Truman holds up an edition of the Chicago Daily Tribune that

Small Pox Essay
What is smallpox?
Smallpox is a serious infectious disease caused by the variola virus that is contagious. Since 1980,
smallpox has been eliminated by vaccination. Research is still being conducted today on smallpox.
Types of smallpox
There are four types of smallpox. These are: variola minor, variola major, hemorrhagic and malignant.
Variola minor caused only 1% of deaths, while variola major caused 90% of deaths. Hemorrhagic and
malignant are very rare, but almost always cause death. These four types of smallpox are now all
eradicated today, but can be known separately.
How is smallpox spread?
Smallpox is an airborne disease. This means that it is spread by sneezing, coughing, sweat, infected
clothing, and face to face contact. Smallpox ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like said above, the symptoms do not show up until after seven to 17 days. This period of time is
called the incubation period. During these seven to 17 days, the disease has entered the body and is
growing and multiplying without the carrier knowing. At this time, the infected person is not
contagious. Smallpox is silent, but when it makes its appearance, it is deadly. Following the incubation
period, the patient takes a turn for the worse. A few days later, red spots develop on your face, then on
your hands, then on your neck. Soon they turn into blisters with pus in them. This worsens as the
patient forms painful, blister like sores in your mouth that break open.
How is it treated?
There is no cure for smallpox, but the vaccination has kept the disease away for quite a long time.
Also, the advance in cleanliness can help from the spread of this disease. If an outbreak were to
happen again, the vaccination would be key, along with antibiotics that could keep the disease from
getting out of hand.
Facts and Statistics
About 3 in every 10 people with smallpox die.
This is now a preventable vaccine and there has not been a national outbreak since 1949. The last
naturally occurring smallpox infection was 1977 in

with the intention of killing her. They composed a story of the events that happened that night. Nicole
put her two children to bed and while getting ready to go to bed herself, opened the front door of her
house after either responding to a knock on the front door or hearing a noise outside. Simpson grabbed
her before she could scream and attacked her with a knife. Forensic evidence from the Los Angeles
County coroner suggested that Ron Goldman arrived at the front gate sometime during the assault and
the assailant attacked him by stabbing him repeatedly in the neck and chest while restraining him.
Nicole was found lying face down so it is believed that the assailant, after finishing with Goldman,
pulled her head back using her hair and slit her throat with the knife, severing her carotid artery.

Finding Nemo
Finding Nemo has a lot of hidden meaning in the story. Most people can interpret stories in different
ways than others, especially children. I interpret that, in Finding Nemo, Marlin not only wants what is
best for Nemo, but what is best for the both of them. Don t be stubborn and not listen to your parents
because they always know what s best for you. I think Marlin s definition of what s best for them is a
little different than most. He wants to rebuild their colony by repopulating. As a child I viewed this as
just a regular movie, like every child would. No kid is going to know the reproductive process of
clown fish. I used to think that it was about friendship between Nemo and Dory, and that if you re in
times of need, there will always be a friend that will help you, no matter where you are. It was my
favorite movie due to these reasons: it made me happy that Nemo wasn t going through it alone.
Everyone views things differently.
Most people interpret Finding Nemo in a whole entirely different way. It is meant to be portrayed as
expressing the type of things a father would go through to save his son. The theme of this movie is to
not be stubborn and listen because your parents always know what s best for you. Most people would
picture it this way, but there is an entirely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

just his son because, well, they have to reproduce together, and Nemo is his only hope of doing

Anatomical Theory Of Disease Essay
In this paper I am going to discuss the differences between the Humoral concept of disease, the
anatomical theory of disease, the germ theory of disease and the differences between each theory. I am
also going to look at the historical significance of these theories and how they apply to health and
wellness in today s health care. The humoral theory comes from an ancient Greek theory that states
that the human body is composed of four basic humors. The Humoral theory is derived from the word
humor, but in this context, means fluid . The Humoral theory is related to the theory of the earth and
the four elements. These elements are better known as earth, fire, water and air. The balance in these
earthly elements allows the earth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fundamental concept of this theory states that microorganisms can invade the body and cause
certain diseases or even death. Before this theory was accepted many people believed that a disease
was a punishment for a person s evil behavior not a medical problem. These three theories differ
because they all covered different barriers when it came to treating and understanding diseases. The
Humoral theory began with the four elements and the anatomical theory allowed us to take a deeper
look into the functioning of the bodies systems. This helped us to learn what was happening in the
body, in the body systems and in the organs. Without these two studies we would not have come to the
Germ Theory. Even though each theory is different in concept each theory was important and we
would not have been able to progress along to the next theory. If we would not have had the germ
theory we would not have discovered the need for vaccines or discovered antiseptics. These theories
also allowed physicians to learn to look at diseases on a micro (small scale) instead of just a macro
scale or big picture. I feel that these theories have led to significant changes in health care over the
years. These theories have allowed scientist to discover not only how to cure some disease but also
how to prevent diseases from spreading. Scientists were able to develop vaccines, antiseptics, create
personal protective equipment and enabled the public

Gene Technology Is The Basic Physical And Functional Unit...
Introduction: A gene is the basic physical and functional unit of heredity and can be used in gene
technology processes. Gene technology refers the range of activities concerned with understanding
gene expression, taking advantage of natural genetic variation, modifying genes and transferring genes
to new hosts. A specific example of gene technology is Gene Therapy. This term refers to the process
of introducing DNA into a patient to treat a genetic disease. The new DNA contains a functioning
gene to correct the effects of a disease causing mutation (YG, 2016). There are several techniques for
carrying out gene therapy, these include, gene augmentation, gene inhibition and the killing off of
specific cells.
Augmentation: Gene augmentation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The process aims to introduce a gene whose product either inhibits or interferes with the expression of
another gene. This therapy facilitates the elimination of the growth of disease related cells (YG, 2016).
Killing of specific cells suicide : This process is suitable for diseases which can be treated by
destroying certain groups of cells. The aim is to insert DNA into a diseased cell which causes the cell
to die. This can be achieved by inserting DNA containing a suicide gene that produces a highly toxic
product to kill the diseased cell or by inserting DNA which causes the expression of a protein which
marks the cells so that the diseased cells are attacked by the body s immune system. This method must
be targeted appropriately to avoid the death of normal functioning cells and would be appropriate to
use on a disease such as cancer (YG, 2016).
Currently, possible candidates for gene therapy include cancer, AIDS, cystic fibrosis, Parkinson s and
Alzheimer s diseases, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, cardiovascular disease and arthritis (AMA, 2016).
This article aims to examine how gene therapy can be used on patients with cystic fibrosis as well as
evaluate the various ethical concerns that surround it.
Cystic fibrosis: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a hereditary disease caused by mutations of the CFTR gene.
The mutations cause cell proteins that channel chloride ions and water out of

Throughout most of history woman have faced an imbalance within their social class opposed to the
male gender. They have had fewer rights and much fewer career opportunities, the stereotype that a
women s place is in the home is due to the most socially accepted and common career of wifehood
and motherhood. Through the comparison of Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller and Fifth Business
by Robertson Davies the contrasts between both works are explored from the feminist perspective.
The status of woman in the early and mid nineteen hundreds is reflected by the lifestyles of ... Show

commitment and intimacy. Dunstan s mother because of her household tasks within the era of his
childhood left her with the devotion mainly to her husband and later to Mrs. Dempster. In relation to
Death of a Salesman Linda and Willy s son Happy developed similar characteristics because he was

Linda protests to Willy her concern towards Happy s manner towards woman He s to rough with the

male dominate within the household, that of which being Willy, she failed to give Happy an equal

Work Force Warning Letter
Your written warning given to me on November 22, 2011 is the latest in your series of attacks against
me. The fact that this letter was presented to me just two days after the Workforce Development office
building partially collapsed, displacing me and the entire department, and just two days before
Thanksgiving, speaks volumes about your intent. Your document begins with We have had numerous
meeting over the past three months regarding my expectations. This statement could not be farther
from the truth. You have never met with me one on one regarding your expectations. I have requested
such a meeting, but you have not responded. Instead you have met with me to issue written warnings,
to chastise me, in the most degrading and demoralizing way possible. This is a primary component of

It is not only replete with misrepresentations, but some pertinent facts are omitted to slant your report.
I will not take the time to provide a detailed item by item reply, as I have done the last two times you

Further, you have shown a complete unwillingness to meet with me to discuss these matters, or even
enlighten me as to the facts upon which you have based your characterizations, as I have requested
repeatedly. In a normal and healthy supervisor subordinate relationship the supervisor discusses
matters of concern with the subordinate beforehand, thereby giving the subordinate an opportunity to
correct any perceived deficiencies or clear up any misunderstandings that might exist. Unfortunately,
your approach has been to blindside me with accusatory write ups largely based on hearsay and
innuendo and later make no effort to resolve the issues raised or to entertain any evidence to the
contrary. This is the very antithesis of good

The Most Dangerous Game
Richard Connell s The Most Dangerous Game is a very exciting story of a manhunt. This story made
me think about the morality of hunting: Humans are the cleverest creatures on earth, but does it give
them a license to kill the other animals and even human beings weaker than themselves? I give below
a short summary of the story to set the scene and then I will explore the ethics involved in hunting as a
sport. The Most Dangerous Game presents the story of a hunter, General
Zaroff, who finds hunting human beings as the most dangerous and fascinating sport. He likes hunting
humans because human beings, unlike the other animals, can reason better and so provide a richer
thrill for the hunter. He does not think hunting human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our knowledge of ecology also teaches us that by killing animals we may be tampering with the
delicate ecosystem and inviting our own destruction.
Human beings are probably the most intelligent creatures on earth. That is why they have a great
responsibility of keeping intact the life of the earth. Indiscriminate killing for sport is an uncivilized
and anti intellectual activity, because we should share this world with the other animals and live in
harmony with them.
Harmonious existence is the key to civilization and survival. It is our moral responsibility to tend life
on earth, not destroy it. Weak or strong every creature is beautiful and essential for the health of the
world, and it is our moral obligation to see that the other creatures share this world with us. Live and

The Eyes Were Watching God Character Analysis
Model Amber Valletta wrote, We are what we see. We are products of our surroundings. A major
element of someone s personality is due to their environment or past events of their lives. Janie
Crawford is certainly not an exception. This is the story of Janie s Pursuit for love where she, a
widowed woman, unfolds her story to her friend Pheoby at dinner. She talks about her childhood with
Nanny and The Washburns, her relationships with Logan Killicks and Joe Starks or Jody, her
experiences with them along with events that took place while being with them or in relation to them,
how they affected her mentality, and how she grows up and matures throughout her life to the self
reliant woman telling the story. In The Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston, the struggles
in Janie s problematic relationships with Logan and Joe impacted her, which gave her more and more
experiences to gradually building up to the independent woman she is in the beginning of the story.
The beginning phase of Janie s development was her marriage to Logan, where she thought that the
marriage which Nanny forced upon her might end up fulfilling her aspiration for love. Logan was very
nice to Janie at the beginning, but later, as time went by, he wasn t as nice to her anymore. One
morning Logan called for Janie for her to come out and help him with his work in the fields. Janie!

Chrysler s distribution networks in North America, while Chrysler could reach out to Europe market

Moreover, Daimler Benz s and Chrysler s brand images were completely opposite, which makes them
lose their own intrinsic value if they would merge together. Again, the clash in cultures and values
took them apart and a harmony within the new company seemed to be impossible.
In addition, with the purpose of protecting sales of Daimler s luxury and uncompromising quality
products like Mercedes, some core vehicles of Chrysler, such as Dodge Neon and the Jeep Grand
Cherokee, were sidelined in favor of Daimler s products. Apparently, Chrysler s products are always
within cost control, while Daimler Benz s vehicles are less cost effective. Merging with Daimler Benz,
Chrysler hadn t earned as many benefits as expected, but already faced a severe internal competition
which harmed it business not only in the US market, but also hindered Chrysler s plan of expansion in
Europe.
Practically, from Chrysler s point of view, instead of benefiting from synergy savings and instead of
promoting its brand in new market, the merger with Daimler Benz actually put Chrysler into a bigger

What Does Spark Can Give The Better Performance Than...
6. What is spark?
Spark is an in memory cluster computing framework which falls under the open source Hadoop
project but does not follow the two stage map reduce paradigm which is done in Hadoop distributed
file system (HDFS) and which is meant and designed to be faster. Spark, instead support a wide range
of computations and applications which includes interactive queries, stream processing, batch
processing, iterative algorithms and streaming by extending the idea of MapReduce model. The
execution time is the most important factor for every process which processes large amount of data.
While considering large amount of data, the time it usually takes for the exploration of data and
execution of queries can be thought of in terms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also it manages to reduce the overhead of maintaining separate tools. Spark provides flexible access
as it offers API in different programming languages like Python, JAVA, Scala and SQL and it provides
rich built in libraries to offer different functionalities. It can also be integrated with different big data
tools like it can run on Hadoop clusters.
6.1 A Unified Stack
Figure 1 1. The Spark Stack
Spark is an integration of closely integrated components. These components can be combined to
gather and can be used as if simply including multiple libraries in our project. There are multiple
components in Spark and all are important in their own way and are dependent on each other. Spark
can be considered as a computational engine at its core which is important for scheduling, monitoring
applications and distribution of many applications and contains many computational tasks throughout
the computing clusters. It uses high level components to handle the task workload such as Machine
learning. In Spark, components are closely coupled which has several advantages such as any
improvement in lower layers makes the higher level libraries and component perform better. Consider
the case when the optimization is added, SQL and machine learning libraries also give better
performance. Other most important benefit is that it reduces the costs of running the stack as it does
not have to run different software independently. These costs are mostly related to

Abortion, Right, Public Policy, And Constitutional Law Essay
Abortion, Right to Life Abortion raises subtle problems for private conscience, public policy, and
constitutional law. Most of these problems are essentially philosophical, requiring a degree of clarity
about basic concepts that is seldom achieved in legislative debates and letters to newspapers (Feinberg
1984: 1).
Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28
weeks of pregnancy. Abortion is a reality for many women in the Philippines, but many consider it
taboo. The Catholic Church regards it as mortal sin because taking another s life is forbidden and life
is a precious gift given by God. Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every
procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to
say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law. John Calvin, a
French theologian and pastor during the Protestant Reformation, states that :
The fetus, though enclosed in the womb of its mother, is already a human being, and it is a most
monstrous crime to rob it of the life, which it has not yet begun to enjoy. If it seems more horrible to
kill a man in his own house than in a field, because a man s house is his place of most secure refuge, it
ought surely to be deemed more atrocious to destroy a fetus in the womb before it has come to light.
(Calvin, 1984)
Many women resort to abortion because they think that they

The Impact Of Technology On The Financial Sector
SOCIAL In the years since the 2008/2009 financial crisis, mistrust of the banking and financing
industry remains high (Erman, 2013). This provides a unique challenge across the financial sector,
including the relevant interior industries of investment banking and venture capital. Once the market
crashed and the mechanics behind it came to light, a large portion of the American populace
dramatically shifted their opinions in regards to the financial sector. This sentiment came to a head
two years after the collapse with the creation of the Occupy Wall Street movement (Erman, 2013).
While not the sole cause, pressure from the American public played a part in the increased regulation
that the financial sector sees today including the Dodd Frank Act. A large part of this negative
backlash was due to an inherent misunderstanding of the inner workings of the financial system
(Erman, 2013). However, a lack financial knowledge did not mean the backlash was any less
successful. TECHNOLOGY The industry wide effects of technology can be seen from both an
internal and external perspective. Internally, the industry is technologically advancing as all industries
are. In person, brick and mortar company evaluations and investments are increasingly being done via
computer instead. This has lowered overhead costs and has increased the computing power of those
making the investments. Externally, the boom in technology is providing a plethora of investment
opportunities. Industry

working with the AMC advance planners have proposed a standard day assignment schedule. The
proposed schedule is complaint with Mexican law and corporate policy in scheduling part time

These different shifts depict the number of customer service employees and the time frames they are
scheduled. The home improvement retail industry has two types of customers; the
professional/contractor and the do it yourself individual. These customers differentiating shopping
trends and support needs are taken into consideration when scheduling employees for the floor. In
evaluating the proposed schedule, business trend, customer demographic and operating shifts were
taken into consideration when allocating customer service employees during operating hours.
Schedule Shifts
The majority of professional/contractor customers shop during early hours of the morning which is
known as the opening shift (7am 10am). Professional/contract customers are experienced and have
knowledge of the merchandise that they need and where it s located in the store given their visit
frequency. Given these facets, the number of customer service employees on the floor is much higher
than is needed. The proposed employee numbers are higher than needed and I recommend the AMC
advance planners schedule estimates for the times between 7am and 11am be used. Using AMC
advance planners estimated schedule provides lower staffing costs and gives you the ability to utilize
the employees at a different time during store

Whereas a strongly conservatives averaged neutral on Ingroup / loyalty statements, while agreeing
with fairness / Reciprocity, Harm / Care and Purity / Sanctity and strongly agreeing with Authority /
Respect(Graham, Haidt and Nosek 2009). In an earlier paper Haidt and Graham(2007) found that for
extreme liberals, Harm / Care and Fairness / Reciprocity where almost always relivent, however those
who are extremely conservative find that they value all five more equally when making moral choice.
This correlates almost perfectly with the earlier paper from Graham, Haidt and Nosek(2009), showing
that the findings seem highly reliable. Haidt and Graham(2007) go on to say that the recognition of the
final three moral foundations(Ingroup / Loyalty, Authority / Respect and Purity / Sanctity) is key to
allowing more fair and even discussions between the two political standpoints. Furthering on this
Tyran (2004) found that when a person is presented with a voting option in a referendum where the
result would be of financial cost to themselves, but would be morally right, specifically relevant to the
Harm / Care and Fairness / Reciprocity foundations, voters tended to vote for the morally right option.
This demonstrates that the connection between moral

Tristram And Iseult The Fair Analysis
The origins of the tale of Tristram and Iseult pre dates Lancelot and Guinevere, but the message
remains the same as Tristram s trials as a knight stem from his own actions. When Morholt, the
brother of the Queen of Ireland, demands Cornish slaves from King Mark, Tristram faces him in one
on one combat. Burdened by a fatal poisoned wound, Tristram boards a ship and eventually washed up
on the shores of Ireland. There, the Irish princess, Iseult the Fair, heals him. Upon his return to
Cornwall, his lord requests his assistance in his search for a queen. His only stipulations lie in her
provable royal blood and that a bird must drop a strand of her golden hair before him. Tristram departs
in search of this woman and lands again in Ireland. His success seems impossible as he struggles with
a dragon. The skirmish leaves him mortally wounded.
The linked fate between the lovers appears again as Iseult chances upon him and offers her medical
abilities. Unexpectedly, her parents offer her as a reward for his defeat of the dragon. Tristram
announces that instead of this match, he intends to give Iseult to King Mark. Worried for her daughter

People Express Airlines: Rise and Decline
I guess the single predominant reason that I cared about starting a new company was to try and
develop a better way for people to work together . . . that s where the name People Express came
from. Most organizations believe that humans are generally bad and you have to control them and
watch them and make sure they work. At People Express, people will be trusted to do a job until they

The airline industry was viewed as a commodity business, but Burr saw a chance to offer a better
product to customers. (PE believed that customers, rather than passengers, created a more appropriate
mindset.) But taking advantage of deregulation was not the only reason Burr wanted to start the
company: greater, perhaps, was his desire to build a better organization one that was both more
productive and more fun than what he considered to be typical in American business. He was tired of
the politics and the beat them and they ll do more management styles he had seen all his professional
life. He was tired of what he called the deadening grind and lack of vision of T.I. s business style. He
wanted to design a new kind of airline, one that would provide both better and cheaper service, and be
an exciting and rewarding place to work. The focus of the company would be on people: hence its
name, People Express. From its inception, therefore, PE was seen as a chance by Burr and his
management team to experiment with and demonstrate a better way of managing not just an airline,
but any business. While Burr recognized his stance was contrary to the majority of organizations in
the United States, he rejected any insinuation that he was optimistic or soft. I m not a goody two shoes

Why School Buses Are Not Required to Have Seat Belts
What about seat belts? Why don t school buses have them?
The short answer is that small school buses do in fact require seat belts; large school buses, with a few
exceptions do not. Seat belts are not required on the larger school buses because both the U.S.
Department of Transportation and Transport Canada, have determined that compartmentalization is
the preferred occupant protection system.
To explain these differences in a greater detail we begin as follows; a small bus is categorized as a bus
under 10,000lbs in weight, which are required by federal law to have seat belt systems on them due to
the fact that they are closer in nature to the size of the average automobile and/or light trucks. The
federal government requires a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All metal surfaces are covered with foam padding. This structure must then meet rigid test
requirements for bending and absorbing energy, such as would be required if a student s body were
thrown against the padded back. In addition, the equivalent of a seat back, called a barrier , is placed
in the front row of seats at the front of the bus.
In addition to padding, today s seats also must have a steel inner structure that springs and bends
forward to help absorb energy when a child is thrown against it. The steel frame must give just enough
to absorb the child in the seat ahead. Also, of course, the seat is required to be anchored to the floor so
strongly that it will not pull loose during this bending action. And the floor itself must be strong that it
will not be torn by the pulling action of the seat anchors during a crash.
Seats are spaced close together as another safety precaution to ensure containment of children after a
potential crash. If seats are spaced too far apart, the student could be thrown too far before being
cushioned and/or could be thrown outside the compartment altogether.
The federal government concluded that compartmentalization is a better safety measure than seat belts
and arguments to favor this are as follows:
Compartmentalization is much more manageable. The protection exists and is in force without
depending on any action of children or any extra

Carl Sandburg s Grass
How would you feel if you knew you were standing on soil where thousands of bloody bodies were
buried underneath? How would you feel thinking about the fact that humans left their carcasses to
decompose on the earth, leaving grass and Mother Nature to cover up the mess? This issue is
discussed from the grass s point of view in a poem written at the end of the atrocious Civil War and
WWI, where many people were killed. Through the use of imperative tense verbs and the tension
between first and third person pronouns, Carl Sandburg displays Grass s obligatory feeling to cover up
the mess created by inferior humans in his poem Grass. The first technique Sandburg employs to show
this idea is through the use of verbs in the imperative tense. In general, ... Show more content on

Throughout the poem, the speaker uses first person pronouns such as I and me, and third person
pronouns such as them. Since one pronoun is not used throughout the entire poem, some tension is
created between both pronouns/groups of people. The first person pronouns refer to the Grass,
whereas the third person pronouns refer to humans and the bodies of soldiers. This difference in
pronouns amplifies the fact that the Grass and humans are dissimilar entities and that there is also a
difference in superiority between the two. The use of first person pronouns from the point of view of
the Grass makes it seem as if the Grass is the one in control, which is what it wants the reader to think.
The tension with the third person pronouns makes the humans come across as inferior. If the first
person pronouns came from the humans and the third person pronouns came from the Grass, then this
feeling would be switched. With the way Sandburg wrote the poem, the Grass takes charge and wants
the humans to leave before they make an even bigger mess so it can get cleaned up. The Grass is
confident that it can clean up the mess better than the humans will. Ultimately, although grass is not
human, it still has the power to clean up all of the messes made by humanity. In the poem Grass, Carl
Sandburg portrays the Grass as more superior than humans

Analysis Of The Poem The Stranger
In many works of literature, poetry and art, the sun is used to represent life, divine beauty and
strength. In the poem Ah! Sunflower by William Blake for example, the sun represents joy and life. In
the novel The Stranger, the author Albert Camus uses the sun in the opposite manner, making it serve
as a negative motif throughout the novel. Conversely, Camus uses the sea as a motif to represent the
positive and pleasurable feelings that Meursault actually wants to feel. The motifs of the sun and sea
serves as representations of Meursault s absurdist behaviors. Absurdism is the idea that humanity must
live in a world that is and will forever be hostile or indifferent towards them. The universe will never
truly care for humanity the way we seem to want it to (Cite). The physical world in general contributes
to Meursault s characterization. When he should be experiencing a rational feeling or emotion,
Meursault becomes aware of the physical world around him. His awareness of the physical world
becomes intense in times of negative events or pleasurable ones. Camus uses simple and short
sentences to describe the natural world. This emphasizes the simplicity of nature, along with the
simplicity of Meursault s character, which demonstrates how close his relationship with nature is.
Meursault s sensitivity to nature contributes to why he can relate to it easier that he can to humans or
society. He feels as if he can connect with it more. The sun and sea serve as tools for

  • 2. Avid Strategies For Curricular Enhancement According to the AVID Strategies for Curricular Enhancement Article, AVID is a system of best practices in teaching and learning that has successfully helped more than 400,000 learners over the past 30 years. The main goal of AVID is to close the achievement gap by preparing students for college readiness and success in a global society. One of AVID strategies is the Active Learning Methods, also known as ALMS. Active Learning Methodologies (ALMs) are strategies that AVID teachers and trainers have used very effectively to engage students in active learning. The more that it is being used the more quickly students continue to engage and respond. I believe an effective teacher keeps their students engaged and responsive to the lesson that is being taught. This strategy can be benefiting because it has an effective way to keep my students engaged in the lesson and attentive and responsive being taught. Another AVID strategy is the writing strategy known as the Cornell Note Taking System. It includes recording ideas and content, questioning, summarizing, reflecting, reviewing, and assessing. It incorporates not only how to write notes, but also how students should use the notes they have recorded. Using Cornell Notes can be very beneficial to my students because it helps to increase the understanding of the topic. When they are studying for either a test or quiz, the student has a concise but detailed and relevant record of previous classes. A study published in 2007 by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Silent Generation There are currently six living generations in the United States, each with different characteristics, beliefs, and values. The things that define each generation s culture are derived from their history, upbringing, and the lifestyle of their time. Our generation was born between 1980 and 2000. We are called Millennials. We grew up in a technologically savvy world and have a high demand for instant gratification. More specifically, we grew up in the South, which typically lends itself to being more conservative, based on a stricter religious upbringing. These characteristics, along with others, define who we are, what we believe, and how we view other generations. Learning from Experience C. S. Lewis once wrote, Experience: that most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It brought great changes to the lives of those living on the United States home front, especially to the young lives of the Silent Generation. After the Great Depression, Americans were not interested in getting involved in war. Unfortunately, war was inevitable. In 1940, President Roosevelt began taking steps to prepare for war. Steve Wiegand explains that Roosevelt authorized the doubling of the US Navy, pledged aid to allied countries being attacked, initiated the military draft which registered all men between the ages of twenty one and thirty five (about sixteen million men), and began to order attacks on deserving enemies (249). Wiegand describes December 7th, 1941, a day that shall live in infamy, the day that Japan unexpectedly attacked Pearl Harbor and wiped out an unprecedented number of militants and military equipment (250). The attack on America sparked patriotism and unified the country. Work began immediately to gear up for the war. According to Wiegand, three million men were drafted and called to active duty (249). This pulled fathers, brothers, sons, and in some cases, mothers away from the home. Although most members of the Silent Generation were too young to be drafted into the military at this time, the lack of father and mother figures at home impacted their childhood. Four years later, after many deaths, bloody battles, and engagements, the war came to an end when the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Mccarthyism In The Salem Witch Trials The False Accusations of McCarthyism shown in The Salem Witch Trials The hunt for a scapegoat is the easiest of all hunting expeditions, Dwight D. Eisenhower. You can distinguish from this that he is trying to relay the message that when you re pursuing someone to blame, there are many people to cast it on. This concept is pertinent to the Salem Witch Trials and the McCarthy trials because the supposed witches and communists were just scapegoats for the fret that the common man had. In the Witch Trials, there were 19 people hung, guilty of not confessing and naming names of other people commit witchcraft. Joesph McCarthy of McCarthyism blacklisted hundreds of Americans, those who decline to name names were later accompanied by unemployment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Act two, Elizabeth says, But we sure never loved the Devil here. (p. 66). Later she is discovered guilty of witchcraft and dodges the noose because they found out she was pregnant. In McCarthyism, this would be someone declining the accusation, which generally didn t go well for them. This is trialed by, in Act 3, You must understand, sir, that a person is either with this court or must be counted against it, there is no road in between. (p. 94). Danforth said this to John Proctor. Proctor was speaking out against the court, and was later hanged. In the McCarthy trials, this would mean if you didn t support the trials, then you would be put on the blacklist. In Act 4, Proctor was confessing being a witch, but he failed to name names and was still executed. Danforth was very upset that he didn t accuse others and said, ...you have most certainly seen some person with the Devil... (p. 140) This provides in these two events, confessing wasn t good enough, you were forced to name the names of other guilty people. The lines from the play transition into ideas from ... • 5. Slaughterhouse Five By Kurt Vonnegut Kurt Vonnegut s book, Slaughterhouse Five, is full of historical context, scientific fiction themes, modernistic themes, and even emphasizes the idea of free will. But Vonnegut s novel contains one major theme of the destructiveness of war making the book anti war. Vonnegut uses a variety of techniques to allude to this theme and he does it well. The combination of his writing style and his use of humor to degrade the human in the event of war is highly effective in the fact that it causes the reader to think about war, and how it affects not only soldiers but the innocent people who are caught in the middle or the people who just do not belong there. Vonnegut does this through various genres of humor: body humor, black humor, and even the humor in his style of writing. Vonnegut also shows the lasting effects of the war on people involved through the main character, Billy Pilgrim, and his journey through life struggling with his PTSD and conflicting philosophies caused by it. Kurt Vonnegut s novel, Slaughterhouse Five shows the theme of anti war through humor and by Billy Pilgrim s psychiatric state. Vonnegut is a humorist in his style of writing. It is his signature style of writing ( So It Goes 3). Humor can be found in every aspect of his writings and other works of literature. It can especially be found in his style of writing. Vonnegut uses a very simple, straightforward prose style. (EXPLORING 3). His use of this style gives an even bigger emphasis on the types of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Supernatural Character in Octavio Paz s Short Story, My... Mexican born author, Octavio Paz, in his short story, My Life with the wave suggests the protagonist is symbolic and then remains a supernatural character best understood in literal terms. He supports his claim by showing the reader the speakers difficulty of finding a place for the wave out of the ocean, how the protagonist suffers imprisonment for a crime he did not commit, and of how through the death of the wave the protagonist is able to free himself from the pain and torment he faced when he was engaged in a relationship with the wave. Paz s intention is to use the symbolism in order show the negative side of falling in love. Octavio Paz adopts an intense tone for the somber reader. The short story Life with the Wave, written by Octavio Paz leads us through an intense relationship between a simple man and a wave. Octavio Paz uses the wave to symbolize a woman. The wave can also be seen as changing just as humans do, she was a white plume of vapor then soon...fell in a fine rain (pg. 264). It seemed like love at first sight, she refused to go back No, her decision was made. She couldn t go back. I tried sweetness, hardness, irony. (pg.263) I explained to her that it was impossible, that life in the city was not what she had been able to imagine with the ingenuousness of a wave that had never left the sea. (pg. 263) She cried, screamed, hugged, and threatened. I had to apologize. (pg.263) The wave is not a person; she is a thing with human emotions. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Inclusive Education Summary Summary Inclusive education is about providing the best possible learning environment for students with disabilities. The purpose of the article was to determine the disposition, skills, and knowledge of both general and special education teachers as well as the school environment. The research suggests that teachers must have open mindedness and be self aware when they teach in an inclusive classroom. Many teachers provided answers that suggest that they understand the need and have the willingness but lack the skills and knowledge while some simply lack the needed disposition to work with children with disabilities. As a result, we can see that there is a need to further develop teacher s professional skills as well as developing the emotional fortitude that is required to be effective at teaching in a inclusive classroom. Literature Review Inclusive education is defined as an appropriate learning environment for students with disabilities while in the general education (Lamar Dukes and Dukes 2005). We have seen more and more students with disabilities being placed in inclusive environments around the U.S and abroad (Cramer and Nevin 2006; Etscheldt 2006; Lindsay 2007; US Department of Education 2007). Because of this integration of diverse student populations there is a need to have more welcoming school environments, appropriate resources both in and outside the classroom, and qualified professionals willing and able to meet the needs of ... The idea behind the book was ingenious and had many good qualities, but there were also some cons. Frist to address the pros. • 11. Essay on Asian Women in the Eyes of Americans Introduction The history of Asian women has many facets. I am about to touch on two key monumental points over a sixty year span that have shaped the views of Asian women in the eyes of Americans. As a brief overview, from as early as the 1940s, Asian women were recruited to serve their soldiers during World War II as sex slaves. Forty years later, the dawning of the 1980s brought about the desire of Asian women into American households and sparked the mail order bride phenomenon. The beginning of a new century has altered the lives of Asian women, in parts of Asia as well as in the United States of America. Commanders of a military unit, or the camp where comfort stations existed, monopolized the overnight stay privileges. When the war ended, most comfort women were simply abandoned. The comfort women have been hidden victims for over half a century. Having been victims of sexual violence, where a woman s chastity is upheld as more important than life itself, many of these women have blamed themselves and kept their sufferings from family members and the community, fearing tainting of the family name. Stetz and Oh indicate although WWII has ended and is now a mass piece of history, the comfort women ordeal still exists today. They continue their isolated existence in poverty and poor health. They have not regained their honor nor had their pains eased. These women continue to endure insulting comments made by irresponsible Japanese officials and by neoconservative nationalists, who claim that many Asian women were merely sex workers for money during WWII. As of the end of January in 1998, the top aide to Japanese prime minister Hashimoto suggested that many women became comfort women for money and that the Japanese military s use of these women was justified by the moves of the times. Don t be stubborn and not listen to your parents because they always know what s best for you. I think Marlin s definition of what s best for them is a little different than most. It was my favorite movie due to these reasons: it made me happy that Nemo wasn t going through it alone. Everyone views things differently. Most people interpret Finding Nemo in a whole entirely different way. It is meant to be portrayed as expressing the type of things a father would go through to save his son. Anatomical Theory Of Disease Essay In this paper I am going to discuss the differences between the Humoral concept of disease, the anatomical theory of disease, the germ theory of disease and the differences between each theory. I am also going to look at the historical significance of these theories and how they apply to health and wellness in today s health care. The humoral theory comes from an ancient Greek theory that states that the human body is composed of four basic humors. The Humoral theory is derived from the word humor, but in this context, means fluid . The Humoral theory is related to the theory of the earth and the four elements. The fundamental concept of this theory states that microorganisms can invade the body and cause certain diseases or even death. Before this theory was accepted many people believed that a disease was a punishment for a person s evil behavior not a medical problem. These three theories differ because they all covered different barriers when it came to treating and understanding diseases. The Humoral theory began with the four elements and the anatomical theory allowed us to take a deeper look into the functioning of the bodies systems. This helped us to learn what was happening in the body, in the body systems and in the organs. Without these two studies we would not have come to the Germ Theory. Even though each theory is different in concept each theory was important and we would not have been able to progress along to the next theory. If we would not have had the germ theory we would not have discovered the need for vaccines or discovered antiseptics. These theories also allowed physicians to learn to look at diseases on a micro (small scale) instead of just a macro scale or big picture. I feel that these theories have led to significant changes in health care over the years. Gene technology refers the range of activities concerned with understanding gene expression, taking advantage of natural genetic variation, modifying genes and transferring genes to new hosts. A specific example of gene technology is Gene Therapy. This term refers to the process of introducing DNA into a patient to treat a genetic disease. The new DNA contains a functioning gene to correct the effects of a disease causing mutation (YG, 2016). There are several techniques for carrying out gene therapy, these include, gene augmentation, gene inhibition and the killing off of specific cells. Augmentation: Gene augmentation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The process aims to introduce a gene whose product either inhibits or interferes with the expression of another gene. This therapy facilitates the elimination of the growth of disease related cells (YG, 2016). Killing of specific cells suicide : This process is suitable for diseases which can be treated by destroying certain groups of cells. The aim is to insert DNA into a diseased cell which causes the cell to die. This can be achieved by inserting DNA containing a suicide gene that produces a highly toxic product to kill the diseased cell or by inserting DNA which causes the expression of a protein which marks the cells so that the diseased cells are attacked by the body s immune system. This method must be targeted appropriately to avoid the death of normal functioning cells and would be appropriate to use on a disease such as cancer (YG, 2016). Currently, possible candidates for gene therapy include cancer, AIDS, cystic fibrosis, Parkinson s and Alzheimer s diseases, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, cardiovascular disease and arthritis (AMA, 2016). This article aims to examine how gene therapy can be used on patients with cystic fibrosis as well as evaluate the various ethical concerns that surround it. Most of these problems are essentially philosophical, requiring a degree of clarity about basic concepts that is seldom achieved in legislative debates and letters to newspapers (Feinberg 1984: 1). Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy, most often performed during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. Abortion is a reality for many women in the Philippines, but many consider it taboo. The Catholic Church regards it as mortal sin because taking another s life is forbidden and life is a precious gift given by God. Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law. John Calvin, a French theologian and pastor during the Protestant Reformation, states that : The fetus, though enclosed in the womb of its mother, is already a human being, and it is a most monstrous crime to rob it of the life, which it has not yet begun to enjoy. If it seems more horrible to kill a man in his own house than in a field, because a man s house is his place of most secure refuge, it ought surely to be deemed more atrocious to destroy a fetus in the womb before it has come to light. • 27. The Impact Of Technology On The Financial Sector SOCIAL In the years since the 2008/2009 financial crisis, mistrust of the banking and financing industry remains high (Erman, 2013). This provides a unique challenge across the financial sector, including the relevant interior industries of investment banking and venture capital. Once the market crashed and the mechanics behind it came to light, a large portion of the American populace dramatically shifted their opinions in regards to the financial sector. This sentiment came to a head two years after the collapse with the creation of the Occupy Wall Street movement (Erman, 2013). While not the sole cause, pressure from the American public played a part in the increased regulation that the financial sector sees today including the Dodd Frank Act. A large part of this negative backlash was due to an inherent misunderstanding of the inner workings of the financial system (Erman, 2013). However, a lack financial knowledge did not mean the backlash was any less successful. TECHNOLOGY The industry wide effects of technology can be seen from both an internal and external perspective. Internally, the industry is technologically advancing as all industries are. In person, brick and mortar company evaluations and investments are increasingly being done via computer instead. This has lowered overhead costs and has increased the computing power of those making the investments. Externally, the boom in technology is providing a plethora of investment opportunities. Acme Mexico City (AMC) opened a new store in Mexico City, Mexico and will be providing customers with all their home improvement needs. Acme Home Improvements operations analysts working with the AMC advance planners have proposed a standard day assignment schedule. The proposed schedule is complaint with Mexican law and corporate policy in scheduling part time employees 50% of a day s total scheduled hours. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These different shifts depict the number of customer service employees and the time frames they are scheduled. The home improvement retail industry has two types of customers; the professional/contractor and the do it yourself individual. These customers differentiating shopping trends and support needs are taken into consideration when scheduling employees for the floor. In evaluating the proposed schedule, business trend, customer demographic and operating shifts were taken into consideration when allocating customer service employees during operating hours. Schedule Shifts The majority of professional/contractor customers shop during early hours of the morning which is known as the opening shift (7am 10am). Professional/contract customers are experienced and have knowledge of the merchandise that they need and where it s located in the store given their visit frequency. Given these facets, the number of customer service employees on the floor is much higher than is needed. The proposed employee numbers are higher than needed and I recommend the AMC advance planners schedule estimates for the times between 7am and 11am be used. Using AMC advance planners estimated schedule provides lower staffing costs and gives you the ability to utilize the employees at a different time during store ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whereas a strongly conservatives averaged neutral on Ingroup / loyalty statements, while agreeing with fairness / Reciprocity, Harm / Care and Purity / Sanctity and strongly agreeing with Authority / Respect(Graham, Haidt and Nosek 2009). In an earlier paper Haidt and Graham(2007) found that for extreme liberals, Harm / Care and Fairness / Reciprocity where almost always relivent, however those who are extremely conservative find that they value all five more equally when making moral choice. This correlates almost perfectly with the earlier paper from Graham, Haidt and Nosek(2009), showing that the findings seem highly reliable. Haidt and Graham(2007) go on to say that the recognition of the final three moral foundations(Ingroup / Loyalty, Authority / Respect and Purity / Sanctity) is key to allowing more fair and even discussions between the two political standpoints. Furthering on this Tyran (2004) found that when a person is presented with a voting option in a referendum where the result would be of financial cost to themselves, but would be morally right, specifically relevant to the Harm / Care and Fairness / Reciprocity foundations, voters tended to vote for the morally right option. This demonstrates that the connection between moral ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tristram And Iseult The Fair Analysis The origins of the tale of Tristram and Iseult pre dates Lancelot and Guinevere, but the message remains the same as Tristram s trials as a knight stem from his own actions. When Morholt, the brother of the Queen of Ireland, demands Cornish slaves from King Mark, Tristram faces him in one on one combat. Burdened by a fatal poisoned wound, Tristram boards a ship and eventually washed up on the shores of Ireland. There, the Irish princess, Iseult the Fair, heals him. Upon his return to Cornwall, his lord requests his assistance in his search for a queen. His only stipulations lie in her provable royal blood and that a bird must drop a strand of her golden hair before him. Tristram departs in search of this woman and lands again in Ireland. His success seems impossible as he struggles with a dragon. The skirmish leaves him mortally wounded. The linked fate between the lovers appears again as Iseult chances upon him and offers her medical abilities. Unexpectedly, her parents offer her as a reward for his defeat of the dragon. Tristram announces that instead of this match, he intends to give Iseult to King Mark. The airline industry was viewed as a commodity business, but Burr saw a chance to offer a better product to customers. (PE believed that customers, rather than passengers, created a more appropriate mindset.) But taking advantage of deregulation was not the only reason Burr wanted to start the company: greater, perhaps, was his desire to build a better organization one that was both more productive and more fun than what he considered to be typical in American business. He was tired of the politics and the beat them and they ll do more management styles he had seen all his professional life. He was tired of what he called the deadening grind and lack of vision of T.I. s business style. He wanted to design a new kind of airline, one that would provide both better and cheaper service, and be an exciting and rewarding place to work. The focus of the company would be on people: hence its name, People Express. From its inception, therefore, PE was seen as a chance by Burr and his management team to experiment with and demonstrate a better way of managing not just an airline, but any business. While Burr recognized his stance was contrary to the majority of organizations in the United States, he rejected any insinuation that he was optimistic or soft. • 33. Why School Buses Are Not Required to Have Seat Belts What about seat belts? Why don t school buses have them? The short answer is that small school buses do in fact require seat belts; large school buses, with a few exceptions do not. Seat belts are not required on the larger school buses because both the U.S. Department of Transportation and Transport Canada, have determined that compartmentalization is the preferred occupant protection system. To explain these differences in a greater detail we begin as follows; a small bus is categorized as a bus under 10,000lbs in weight, which are required by federal law to have seat belt systems on them due to the fact that they are closer in nature to the size of the average automobile and/or light trucks. The federal government requires a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All metal surfaces are covered with foam padding. This structure must then meet rigid test requirements for bending and absorbing energy, such as would be required if a student s body were thrown against the padded back. In addition, the equivalent of a seat back, called a barrier , is placed in the front row of seats at the front of the bus. In addition to padding, today s seats also must have a steel inner structure that springs and bends forward to help absorb energy when a child is thrown against it. The steel frame must give just enough to absorb the child in the seat ahead. Also, of course, the seat is required to be anchored to the floor so strongly that it will not pull loose during this bending action. And the floor itself must be strong that it will not be torn by the pulling action of the seat anchors during a crash. Seats are spaced close together as another safety precaution to ensure containment of children after a potential crash. If seats are spaced too far apart, the student could be thrown too far before being cushioned and/or could be thrown outside the compartment altogether. The federal government concluded that compartmentalization is a better safety measure than seat belts and arguments to favor this are as follows: Compartmentalization is much more manageable. The protection exists and is in force without depending on any action of children or any extra ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Carl Sandburg s Grass How would you feel if you knew you were standing on soil where thousands of bloody bodies were buried underneath? How would you feel thinking about the fact that humans left their carcasses to decompose on the earth, leaving grass and Mother Nature to cover up the mess? This issue is discussed from the grass s point of view in a poem written at the end of the atrocious Civil War and WWI, where many people were killed. Through the use of imperative tense verbs and the tension between first and third person pronouns, Carl Sandburg displays Grass s obligatory feeling to cover up the mess created by inferior humans in his poem Grass. The first technique Sandburg employs to show this idea is through the use of verbs in the imperative tense. In general, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the poem, the speaker uses first person pronouns such as I and me, and third person pronouns such as them. Since one pronoun is not used throughout the entire poem, some tension is created between both pronouns/groups of people. The first person pronouns refer to the Grass, whereas the third person pronouns refer to humans and the bodies of soldiers. This difference in pronouns amplifies the fact that the Grass and humans are dissimilar entities and that there is also a difference in superiority between the two. The use of first person pronouns from the point of view of the Grass makes it seem as if the Grass is the one in control, which is what it wants the reader to think. The tension with the third person pronouns makes the humans come across as inferior. If the first person pronouns came from the humans and the third person pronouns came from the Grass, then this feeling would be switched. With the way Sandburg wrote the poem, the Grass takes charge and wants the humans to leave before they make an even bigger mess so it can get cleaned up. The Grass is confident that it can clean up the mess better than the humans will. Ultimately, although grass is not human, it still has the power to clean up all of the messes made by humanity. In the poem Grass, Carl Sandburg portrays the Grass as more superior than humans ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Analysis Of The Poem The Stranger In many works of literature, poetry and art, the sun is used to represent life, divine beauty and strength. In the poem Ah! Sunflower by William Blake for example, the sun represents joy and life. In the novel The Stranger, the author Albert Camus uses the sun in the opposite manner, making it serve as a negative motif throughout the novel. Conversely, Camus uses the sea as a motif to represent the positive and pleasurable feelings that Meursault actually wants to feel. The motifs of the sun and sea serves as representations of Meursault s absurdist behaviors. Absurdism is the idea that humanity must live in a world that is and will forever be hostile or indifferent towards them. The universe will never truly care for humanity the way we seem to want it to (Cite). The physical world in general contributes to Meursault s characterization. When he should be experiencing a rational feeling or emotion, Meursault becomes aware of the physical world around him. His awareness of the physical world becomes intense in times of negative events or pleasurable ones. Camus uses simple and short sentences to describe the natural world. This emphasizes the simplicity of nature, along with the simplicity of Meursault s character, which demonstrates how close his relationship with nature is. Meursault s sensitivity to nature contributes to why he can relate to it easier that he can to humans or society. He feels as if he can connect with it more. The sun and sea serve as tools for ...
