The Lost Worlds Of Flaherty Summary
As a young boy in Michigan, Flaherty spent little time in school and more time living a nomadic,
frontier life with his father, a mining engineer. His family soon moved to Canada and he soon found
himself prospecting for gold and iron ore from camp to camp and during this series of expeditions,
Flaherty learned to survive in the wilderness from the miners and the local Inuit ( The Lost Worlds of
Flaherty ).
After a second expedition to the Hudson Bay area, upon the suggestion of his boss, Sir William
Mackenzie, Flaherty bought a Bell and Howell 16 mm film camera and decided to make a visual
record of the extraordinary lives and customs he witnessed in the Canadian north ( The Lost Worlds of
Flaherty ). Flaherty mentions in the preface of Nanook of the North that when he was not seriously
engaged in exploratory work, he would compile films of the Eskimos living with him ( The Lost
Worlds of Flaherty ). He also notes that he has no prior experience in filming. Considering the quality
of Nanook, I find this particularly remarkable. That said, Flaherty s first efforts to make his visual
record of the desolate Canadian north were wasted due to the film catching fire just as Flaherty
finished editing it. Flaherty went north again, for the sole purpose of making a film, and this
ultimately led to the making of Nanook of the North, which is essentially a typified, romanticized
version of a young Inuk man and his family s life and struggles ( The Lost Worlds of Flaherty ).
Even though some parts of his documentaries were staged, I believe Flaherty staged some of the
events in his documentaries to present a more compelling story, and not necessarily to deceive the
viewers or portray a skewed depiction of the subject. Also, given the technology at that time, Flaherty
might have staged some scenes in his documentaries for practicality purposes. I don t think anyone
would want to waste film just filming mundane everyday activities, given that film is expensive and
hard to come by during the time. I believe Flaherty staged some scenes to create a structure for his
documentaries. He did it to make the audience relate to his work more. That said, Flaherty was still a
man of his time and he definitely did not see his

Speaker 1 Political dynasty is the concentration, consolidation or continuation of public office and
political power by persons related to each other. As the first speaker of the affirmative side, let me tell
you why there is a necessity for anti political dynasty law. First, it is stated in Article II, Section 26 of
the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines, The State shall guarantee equal access to opportunities for
public service and prohibit political dynasties as may be defined by law. It is required or a mandate of
the Constitution to pass a law prohibiting political dynasties. Almost twenty nine (29) years have

Summary of Defending Against the Indefensible Essay
In Neil Postman s Defending Against the Indefensible , he suggests that our society has been culturally
brainwashed. Therefore, Postman has given us seven key elements of critical thinking to help us
understand the English language and avoid the manipulation of language: definition, questions,
simplicity of words, metaphors, reification, style and tone, and the non neutrality of media. Postman s
first principle is that a definition is only a means of helping us achieve our goals. Definitions do not
have the power to stop us from achieving our purposes. Definitions will always have a bias. It is our
job to spot that bias and question who wrote the definition, why, and for what purpose. The word
organic is seen quiet frequently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What was considered right to Hitler was very contrary to what was right to Churchill during World
War Two. Students who can understand the meanings of these small words will be able to understand
how the media, politicians, and preachers may try to mislead or cover up. Fourth, students must
realize how much metaphors are used in the english language. Not only are metaphors used so
commonly, they also greatly influence the way we think about things. All subjects are based on
metaphors. Education is currently seen as a business with the students as the clients. Language is a
tree with deep roots. Metaphors are a cornerstone to how we grasp concepts and understand the
knowledge we have. We really only know things in relation to other things, often by a metaphor
Postman s fifth concept is reification. This is the confusing of words with things. It is with reification,
that we can manipulate words to help us conceal ideas. Words like ethnic cleansing or final solution
make a concept sound like it is a good thing, yet it really involves the massacre of millions of people.
Reification displays to us that a person s word choice is profoundly influential to how we perceive a
concept. Style and tone is the sixth concept used by Postman. All subjects of knowledge are like
genres. They share certain qualities that are distinctive to the subject matter. A man of science could

Imagine Dragons Research Paper
When it comes to bands and singers, Imagine Dragons is definitely one of the best. They are an
American indie/rock/alternative band from Las Vegas. Their variety in music, appealing sound and
development is what makes them worth your time. This band should definitely be added to your
playlist and here s why:
Imagine Dragons is an amazing band because of their variety of music. To some extent, it does not
matter what style of music you like, there will be a song they have written you will enjoy. They range
from alternative rock, to indie pop, electropop, indie rock and pop rock. Their songs can be upbeat,
mellow, aggressive or melancholic. Thunder is an example of a more upbeat song while Battle Cry is a
more mellow/sad song. Imagine Dragons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No one is going to listen to a poor sounding singer or band. Imagine Dragons definitely covers
sounding good. Their lead vocalist, Dan Reynolds, is loved by fans for his impassioned vocals [that]
often feel tailor made for shout out loud choruses (http://atwoodmagazine.com/) but also his
passionate vocals in other songs. Atwood magazine wrote a review for Imagine Dragons newest album
and said, Dan s vocals stretch over the music and into the silence, I can almost feel all of the things the
band s been through to get here. Imagine Dragons has been through some difficulties in their career
and for a while, no one knew who they were and also having some members fight depression. But
then they wrote the right song and became famous. Although they became famous, they stayed true to
their original image and their fans. As reviews have shown, Imagine Dragons has a very pleasant and
also passionate sound. Some of their music can be slightly distorted, and this is not to everyone s taste,
but this only applies to a couple of their songs. Although their sound may not be organic on the rare
occasion, overall Dan Reynolds has an extremely pleasant sounding voice and the instrumental side of
the band is

The Law And Common Law
INTRODUCTION
In the field of using another person or and organisations land under the bind of a contractual
agreement is normally in place to clearly state and establish each parties rights and obligations to each
other and indeed to the property. Common law has a role to place in relation to these tenancies
whether they be residential or commercial as far as trying to protect tenants and newer legislations are
always geared towards protecting the rights of tenants, this is very important considering the current
backdrop and trend towards renting property in the United Kingdom as opposed to homeownership.
Common law does not have the same reputation in relation to advocating tenants rights and are best

4 The fourth kind of license and the most important in relation to the unique factors that a court in
Northern Ireland will take into consideration in distinguishing between a lease and a license is a
contractual licence. A contractual licence which is more relevant in this case is in effect permission to
use or occupy land or property, this type of licence derives from an implied contract. The licensee
does not have a legal estate however, A license normally infers occupational rights similar to that a
hotel owner has over a guest, due to the level of control that the hotel owner exercises over their
property the guest will not have an exclusive possession of the room they occupy and are seen
ultimately as lodgers or a licensee.
While there are the four different forms of licence it is vital to note that it is a very basic different
between all four which has been recognised law for a long time. If we view a licence in a historical
context we see it has long been established that is does not grant exclusive possession. Property
passeth no interest nor alters or transfers property in anything, but only makes an action lawful, which
without it had been unlawful Vaughan, Thomas v Sorrell ([1673] EWHC (KB) J85)
Those in possession of a license at most have exclusive occupation and do not have the statutory
protection of tenure under the (Rent Act 1977) which a lease holder enjoys. It must be noted that a
licence holder will have a

Compare And Contrast Japan And Europe
Because Japan and France both existed within the genre of feudal society, they shared many economic
similarities. Both feudal systems had common qualities of fief organization, similar inheritance
customs, taxing systems and issues with debt, and the lack of social mobility characteristic of
feudalism. In feudal societies, fiefs are awarded to officials in lieu of salaries. A fief typically was a
plot of land, including household servants, agricultural laborers, and anyone else who lived on the
land; however, it was above all a diffuse bundle of loose claims on rights with which one obtained the
right to participate in the game of power present in feudal societies. A fief did not necessarily have to
be land, but it was overwhelmingly so in both France and Japan because of the natural economy, led
by agricultural pursuits; the more important part of a feudal agreement was not the land, per se, but
rather the ties between lord and recipient. Moreover, in punishment for breach of feudal contract,
forfeiture of the land was possible; the lords in France had the right to reclaim their gifted fief if they
felt they were not well served. There was also the option of escheat, which allowed the lord to take
back their fief in default of a rightful heir. Fiefdom was common to both France and Japan. Shiki
rights in Japan were defined as a right to profit from the land ; they acted as a sort of deed or title,
which could be bought, sold, inherited, and divided as the recipient of

In doing so, it creates more space around the spinal cord. The cervical portion of the spine is made up
of your uppermost vertebrae in the neck. This procedure is known to be combined with the posterior
fossa decompression surgery. Both treatments work to maximize the restoration of cerebrospinal fluid
flow.
3. Spinal Fusion
In this procedure, the surgeon will join the skull and the uppermost vertebra of the neck so they come
together and heal as a single bone, increasing stability and support. This procedure protects the spinal
cord from further damage.
4. CSF Diversion
CSF (cerebrospinal fluid) is the fluid that bathes the brain and spinal cord. It is formed in the
ventricles of the brain and follows a course down the spinal column and back up to the brain, where it
is reabsorbed into the bloodstream.
CSF diversion is a way to deal with the buildup of cerebrospinal fluid. This surgery is typically used
in secondary cases of Chiari where hydrocephalus (abnormally increased pressure in the skull) forces
the cerebellum down to create the Chiari. In this procedure, the cerebrospinal fluid is treated by
shunting the CSF elsewhere in the body (typically the abdomen), where it can be reabsorbed into the
bloodstream.

Witch Craft Trials Research Paper
There has been a plethora of research conducted that supports the notion that witch craft trials
occurred in Scotland primarily during the 16th and 17th centuries in England and Scotland and had an
impact on the way people chose to live their lives during this time period. Witches were seen as people
who had turned their backs on God and Christianity and entered a pact with the Devil. Due to this
belief, people were quick to prosecute potentially witches to keep the community safe. Furthermore,
there were many different elements of life that had an impact on witch craft trials and their outcomes,
such as the state/national government, local officials and arguably most importantly, the church.
Specifically during the Civil War we saw an increase ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to be tried as a witch, someone who believed themselves to be victimized would come
forward to the authorities. However, before a witch received a formal trial by a criminal court she was
generally identified by a kirk session. Being involved in the first stage of witchcraft trials allowed the
church to help identify witches and begin the interrogation process. In order for an individual to be
tried by a criminal court the church had to seek the approval of the Privy council. Cases with an
abundance of evidence were more likely to have a trial this is still the case today in court cases. If the
court believes there is a high success rate that the accused will be convicted they are more inclined to
bring the issue to court. In addition, the best piece of evidence in the 17th century and today is a
confession. Unfortunately during witchcraft trials confessions were frequently acquired by illegitimate
and morally reprehensible ways. As stated by Goodare ... [the witch] had often been arrested and
interrogated (typically with deprivation of sleep) to obtain a

The truth of real life is there, but it is dated. In the past, students were able to be physically paddled
for behavior issues. Peer influences can change the way a person reacts in a tricky situation. For
Bruce, he receives positive peer pressure from the entire school assembly when Trunchbull claims he
stole her cake. She requires him to eat an entire cake that one of the lunch ladies has made for him. At
first he does well with a steady pace. He then becomes fuller and fuller. When there is just a little bit
under half left on the platter, Matilda arises from the seated crowd and starts cheering and chanting
Bruce to motivate him. After she starts, Lavender and the rest of the school assembly join in chanting
to encourage Bruce to finish the cake. Once Bruce finishes the cake and is miserable, he stands up and
licks the platter clean. Trunchbull is not happy with the reaction, so she shatters the platter over his
head, and then a reaction of classical conditioning happens again. The students immediately become
silent and sit down. The real life aspect of the idea that students back other students up are still true.
This specific situation would not happen in an entire school. Positive peer pressure is all around a

Essay On Good Vs Evil Wuthering Heights
Wuthering Heights: Good vs. Evil Emily Bronte s classical literary masterpiece, Wuthering Heights,
can more or less be viewed as a struggle between conventional, civilized human behavior, as well as
the wild, anarchistic side that each of us humans possess, although subtly. Bronte s piece can be
summed up by the good vs. evil elements that include Wuthering Heights as opposed to Thrushcross
Grange, Heathcliff vs. Edgar, and much more. These elemental set points lead to the conclusion that
Wuthering Heights cannot be classified as a love story, as there is no happy ending, and the heroine
dies at roughly the halfway point of the book. This aspect makes the masterpiece an enduring Gothic
classic, as Bronte is able to transform characters feelings onto paper, unmatched by any in the dark
literary realm. Bronte s inclusions of aspects such as ghosts, as well as the tranquility in which the
Grange brings are the set pieces that make the novel a battle between good and evil, rather than simply
a fictitious love account that ends in futility. Emily Bronte seemingly uses the two estates as a means
of setting the tone for the novel s continuous battle between good vs. evil. In accordance, the two
settings of Thrushcross Grange as well as Wuthering Heights establish the key elements of culture and
nature, which in many ways ties in to the Gothic elements of the novel. The name given to the second
dwelling, Wuthering , meaning extremely windy and turbulent, emphasizes the

Richard Wright s Autobiography Of A Black Boy In The US
A autobiography called Black Boy, by Richard Wright was written seventy five years ago. In his

a child, when Wright went to school and worked at different jobs, he d seen a much of the racial

racial discrimination, stereotyping and unemployment have decreased in the United States, it is still an
active problem that people of color face. If Wright was alive in 2018, writing a novel about a black

the black boy would have to go through. As a kid, he went through the same things and would

For this ritual project, I decided to observe the ritual of going to mosque and performing their prayers.
The reason I decided to choose an Islamic practice for this project was in part because of the recent
increase in Islamophobia both in the States and in Canada. I was also very interested to maybe observe
some of the differences and similarities in Islamic practices compared to Christian practices as I have
grown up in a very traditional Christian (Pentecostal) household and have never really had the
opportunity to experience, first hand, a religious ceremony foreign to my own. Additionally, when

Regarding performativity, the first thing in this ritual that I both observed and had to take part in was
the wearing of the scarf over my head. This could be seen as a costume required by this ritual which
was followed by only the women. There were also specific musical cues spoken that indicated what
position had to be assumed and when. In terms of performativity, this could possibly be referred to as
a performative speech act if the words have the power to change something in the current state. There
was almost a role that was taken on by all the people engaging in the ritual. As soon as they walked in
the room, and even after the ritual was over, there was a sense of solemnness and reverence that
people exhibited while in that space. When it comes to liminality, this whole ritual exhibited a process
that could be categorized under the three stages of liminality; separation, transition and incorporation.
From the very beginning the ritual began with two distinct forms of separation. As we entered the
building we were separating ourselves from society and entering a space in which people of a shared
community came to participate in a ritual. Not only were we separated from society by entering the
building, but we were also separated from the men that were a part of this ritual. Additionally, this
stage of separation was also seen and experienced physically through the process of putting on the
scarf on our heads. This scarf magnified the weight of the separation of sexes because now there was a
tangible marker of what we signified in this process. While the men resided in a larger room, the
women were kept in a much smaller room in the back. The process of transition is a bit harder to
solidify because there does not seem to be a set point in the ritual where a profound change occurs, but
rather the process of the movements itself works together as part of

Stand Your Ground Laws Are Relevant For American Society...
Stand Your Ground laws have been at the center of escalating deliberation, mainly after the law was
applied in a number of exceedingly broadcasted events (Auerbach, 2015, p.1). Stand Your Ground law
is a term for a type of self protection in which an individual is legally allowed to defend his or herself
against a threat or perceived threat against their life; law requires that individual be in a place he or
she is lawfully allowed to be (Long, N.D.). The debate concentrated on whether Stand Your Ground
laws justifiably serve to protect the public. The laws are relevant to American society s perception on
self defense. On February 26, 2012, one of the cases that made a disturbance in many communities
occurred. George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watchman in Sandford, Florida called police to report
a suspicious individual in the area. According to a Feb. 7, 2016 CNN report, while Zimmerman is on
the phone with a dispatcher, the dispatcher asked him if he was following the teen. When Zimmerman
replied that he was, the dispatcher said, We don t need you to do that. Zimmerman was instructed not

Essay about The Murders In The Rue Morgue
In Edgar Allan Poe s The Murders in the Rue Morgue , a crucial statement is declared about how he
views the inner workings of men, as well as how men interact with women in society. The narrative is
based around the horrific murder of two defenseless women, which seems to have been committed by
a mystery beast . Poe demonstrates the primitive violent forces that exist within people, particularly
men, which have the ability to escape in shocking ways, often against a woman. Poe uses violence as a
negative, inhumane act, in order to reinforce the innate brutal impulses that are just under the surface
of all male beings. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;Poe describes where the Ourang Outang was

the Ourang Outang is like man. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;In addition, Poe shows the natural
emotion of shame a man feels when someone catches him in the process of doing something wrong,
demonstrated when he says conscious of having deserved punishment, it seemed desirous of
concealing its bloody deeds, and, skipped about the chamber in an agony of nervous agitation;
throwing down and breaking the furniture as it moved, and dragging the bed from the bedstead. Then,
the Ourang Outang realizes his faults and tries to conceal then, as would any man, exemplified by the

Dance Performance Analysis Essay
Dance performance Analysis
Acceptance
The performers danced to uplifting and complementing words. The messages were a mixture of
parents of the performers and other students themselves. Having genuine compliments intensified the
self love message of the dance. In addition to the selection of music, the choreography also expanded
on acceptance. The dancers had mini solos, but after they finished their mini solo, they became
background support for the solos after their own. The dancers dance moves displayed an open tone;
their moves mimicked a happy and accepting encounter. Near the end of the performance, two of the
performers hugged as part of their choreography, which created a more loving and accepting
atmosphere. The dance addresses a serious

Bleach Lab
Data Description: In both the bleach and vinegar soaked seeds, there was no growth whatsoever;
therefore, there were no trends or changes in seed growth to be accounted for. The beer soaked seeds
did relatively well, growing at a steadily fast pace, and grew more healthily than the other seeds
(besides the control). On the graph, the beer soaked seeds seemed to follow a type of pattern. From
point 1 to 2 and point 2 to 3 it inclined at the same angle. But point 3 to 4 was a larger jump, giving
the line more height, and from point 4 to 5 it also seemed to follow incline that point 3 to 4 made. The
seeds soaked in Hydrogen Peroxide grew slowly and also at a steady pace, but the growth rate was
greatly slowed down and was below average. Besides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And the answer is that it mainly affected two factors of the experiment; whether the seeds would grow
at all, and if they did grow, how long would they get in a certain amount of time. As the control, the
water soaked seeds grew well, but they were not the focus of this experiment. Out of the 4 groups of
seeds tested, the beer soaked seeds grew the best. The hydrogen peroxide soaked seeds did grow, but
they grew much more slowly. The vinegar soaked seeds at least were able to withstand the soaking
steps, but did not grow when planted. And the bleach soaked seeds were never planted at all because
there were no intact seeds to plant after soaking. This experiment had unexpected results and
interesting outcomes. Radish seeds are not the most durable, but they gave good results that were very
reliable when the experiment concluded. In some cases, experiments like this may go wrong, or the
solutions may not make a big enough impact on the seeds when soaked to find good results from. But
although this procedure was not necessarily foolproof or perfect, it was as reliable and solid as it could
possibly be for a home project with little equipment. Sometimes the things biology is capable of can

Free Energy Machine The theory of Perpetual Motion and Energy
The theory of perpetual motion and energy is a topic that is one that is almost an outcast by the
scientific community. That is why it so interesting in my opinion. One day I was brain storming and
this method just popped into my head. My hypothesis states that a bigger pulley on the router of an
electric motor and a smaller pulley on the router of an alternator connected to a battery would put out
higher amounts of energy than the same or even smaller pulley on the alternator. The interesting thing
about this experiment is that the results actually matched my hypothesis. As far as getting this to run in
a continuous fashion if you add an inverter and another battery to this system, the amperage would be
enough to power the motor and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To do that the motor needs to have a lower voltage than needed in the system. A fan motor would
probably be the best in this situation. The fan motor has a switch that allows different speeds for the
motor and a better chance to get the RPM down to the best speed possible. If this mechanism were to
work then there would be a clean and renewable source of electricity to distribute throughout the
world.
The next component in the system is the pulley. Pulleys are an ingenious invention that we use in
everyday objects such as cars, bikes, and clocks. The way that this system is set up is like that of a car.
In a car there are 4 different gears. There is first gear witch spins at the same speed or RPM as the
motor does. As you up shift the RPM of the motor gets lower and the speed of the tires moves faster.
With the pulleys in the right ratio there is the hope that the alternator will spin faster than the motor
does thus putting out a surplus of electricity
The choice of a metal chain or a rubber type belt was a tough one. Both of these options to drive this
mechanism have their own strengths and weaknesses. The pros to the chain are that it is will wear out
less easily, the chain wont slip as much and the chain also stands to be more efficient because it doesn
t stretch as much as the rubber belt or any other non metal belt does which causes drag. The cons are
that it can rust and it weighs more than a rubber belt. The pros to the rubber belt are that it is light

Input Rate and Demand Rate Process Capacity
Throughput =Min {Process Capacity}
It is evident from the process flowchart that the capacity of the drying unit is minimum at 450 and
maximum at 600 bbls/hr. However, this does not apply to dry berries.
Both dry and wet berries go through the separation process with a capacity of 1200 bbls/hr. Since 70%
of the berries are wet, the capacity for separation is recalculated as
Separation capacity for wet berries = 70% of 1200 bbls/hr = 840 bbls/hr
Separation capacity for dry berries = 30% of 1200 bbls/hr = 360 bbls/hr

Arrival rate of berries = 1500 bbls/hr
Start time for processing is 11 AM.
Arrival time of berries = 7 AM.
Time for storage in the dumper and bins = 4 hours
Total number of berries = 1500*4 = 6000 bbls
Total number of wet berries = 70% of 6000 = 4200 bbls
Total number of dry berries = 30% of 6000 = 1800 bbls
Capacity for storage of Dry berries in bins = 3200 bbls
Arrival rate for dry berries = 30% of 1500 bbls/hr = 450 bbls/hr

Excess berries in bins start getting processed at (600 450) =150 bbls/hr
Arrival of berries stops at 7 PM.
Excess dry berries remaining after 7 PM = 1800 8*150 = 600 bbls.

Satire in the Tragedies of Euripides
The world of Euripides tragedies was one that espoused ancient ideas of religion. The belief in ancient
legends that formed subject material for the tragic drama had passed. The crowd that attended the
theater at this time did so as a sort of religious celebration. It was under these circumstances that
Euripides had to bury what might have been his true beliefs, and instead replace them with ideas that
would relate to his audience. This did not mean that Euripides had to forgo his beliefs entirely. Rather,
this meant that Euripides had to include his own interpretations of these ancient beliefs in a way that
was not outwardly corrupt or blasphemous. By exploiting the human dimension of understanding
beliefs, Euripides was able to insert ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next example of satire is in Ion as translated by Robert Potten. In this play, Euripides allows for
the characters to express their disgust for the ancient deities. Is it then Just exclaims Ion, that you who
gave the laws / to mortals, should yourselves transgress those laws? (lines 450 451). Ion goes on to
express his contempt with the gods that can clearly be seen as satirical: The penalty of forced
embraces, thou, Neptune, and Jove, that reigns supreme in heaven, Will leave your temples treasure
less by paying The mulcts of your injustice (lines 454 457).
This reveals the nature of the satire that Euripides chose to pursue. This was more of a rhetorical
example of how the gods fail in their own laws, yet man is bound by them. In using the fallacy of
begging the question, Euripides allows for the audience to think that they can answer the question
differently, yet Euripides has already put the conclusion, or answer, within the prose by using the
premise, Will leave your temples treasure less... (line 456). In Heracles, as translated by E.P.
Coleridge, we can see a similar sort of satire being used to question the gods. Amphytron, husband of
Alcmene, who is the mother of Heracles, continuously uses satire when speaking of the gods. In his
complaint against Zeus, for the seduction of Alcmene, and for abandoning Heracles, Amphytron
states, O Zeus, in vain it seems, did I get thee to share my bride with me; in

The Importance Of Ability Schooling In Elementary School...
Over the last 20 years, enrollment rates in public schools have increased by at least 7 percent (NCES
2017). That makes the overall total of students enrolled in school reach around 50.3 million students
(NCES 2017). Every student enters schooling with different academic skill levels, and ability
grouping can help teachers raise students academic performances. Ability grouping is where students
are grouped in the classroom based off their ability to learn, their academic skills, and their talents in
the classroom (NEA 2017). Ability grouping improves academic performance in public elementary
school classrooms.
The purpose of ability grouping is to increase students achievement in the classroom. Research has
shown that ability grouping has improved many math and reading grades throughout elementary
schools. Ability grouping with smaller groups is a lot more common for reading groups than they for
math groups. Ability grouping gives teachers the chance to work with students in smaller numbers.
Research has been found that having smaller group sizes, because of ability grouping, also increases
academic performances (Kutnick, Blatchford Baines 2002). Ability grouping gives teachers the
opportunity to teach new information to kids that learn the same way and at the same pace. According
to Kutnick et al. (2002), Children were least likely to work on tasks involving the introduction of new
knowledge (p 195). When students are put into small groups, they are able to learn

Art is a medium for exploring a culture s characteristics during a specific time. Understanding an art
piece s content and historical significance can reveal key details about different civilizations.
Following the time period of the Renaissance, European artists experimented with styles to separate
their works from the prior time period. They strayed away from even lighting, stillness, and symmetry
to form a new artistic style that differed from the Renaissance. This type of style was labeled the
Baroque, a European aesthetic focused on movement, emotion, and drama. Francois Boucher was a

Art is able to evoke different feelings and emotions to each person that sets their eyes on it. The act of
looking is simple, but a lot comes from it. Where the eyes are first drawn to, the duration that the eyes
are focused on a specific detail, and the thoughts that flood one s brain when viewing art is all
significant. These actions say more than the piece itself, it reveals emotions of both the artist and the
audience. Art can be expressed through infinite forms, but the underlying importance is not with the
art itself. It represents a place in time, displaying what was noteworthy to an individual in their own
life. It serves as a lasting creation representative of human imagination with the ability to bring out a
multitude of emotions from whoever views it. When art is created it represents the creativity of the
human mind compacted into a physical object. Art has little usage aside from pure observation, yet it
has prevailed throughout time, showing its importance to humanity. Art provides a lens into humanity,
showcasing the human ability over time. When studied through history, art is a view into the
development of humans and their interests. Through something as basic as commonly using symmetry
to transitioning to asymmetry, the European s perspective following the Renaissance is revealed. The
making of art is solely up to one individual and their creativity. It is the pinnacle of

There was a court case, Baby Girl v. Adoptive Couple, in which a child who was partially Cherokee

the native adoptee feels inferior to his White adoptive parents; therefore, the child was obviously

Representation Of The Feminine Of Select Ghost Stories Of...
Representation of the Feminine in Select Ghost Stories of Ruskin Bond
Ruskin Bond is one of those rare authors whose writings have been loved and accepted by readers of
all ages and groups. His depiction of small town life in India and of ordinary individuals struggling to
make their lives and dreams worthwhile has an almost undeniable sense of appeal and beauty. His
stories usually reflect this simplicity and good humour that have come to be associated with most of
Bond s writing. Yet, there are certain aspects to his writing as it is true of any other great writer that
deal with deeper and darker themes even if they aren t immediately apparent. In this paper an attempt
has been made to analyse certain stories of the supernatural by Bond in order to assess how the
character of the female has been represented with a special emphasis on examining an element of the
sinister which seems to be associated with each of these women. Whether as ghosts or as real, living
individuals, these women exhibit a tendency to inflict harm on other characters which marks them as
being decisively dangerous. What this paper tries to ascertain is whether these female characters can
be simply branded as being evil or if there are actual, justifiable reasons behind their actions which
provokes them to act in the ways they do. The study thus seeks to shed some light on the intentions
and motivations of these characters who are evidently more complex than they initially appear to be.

On the other hand, Bookmaster needs to improve a few areas to reduce the dissatisfaction felt by its

In 1968, H.J. McCloskey, an Australian Philosopher wrote an article titled On Being an Atheist which
is an attempt for his personal reasons to reject the belief in God. In the article McCloskey criticizes
against the theistic proofs, which are cosmological argument and the teleological argument. Majority
of the article is focused on the evil issues and catastrophic events to innocent people in a world that is
supposedly designed by an omnipotent and loving God, which McCloskey believes is a valid case in

scopes are used for the same purpose as regular binoculars but they just provide more magnification.
If you are attempting buying a spotting scope I have made a simple guide that would help you find out
the right scope for the purpose you need. You can start buying the right binocular through finding out
the right specifications which can be making the spotting scope waterproof or even fog proof and
ensuring it has the quality you need such as giving you eye relief and having extended warranty. There
are many ways you can attempt buying a spotting scope. You can begin by looking at the price range
then looking at the features of the spotting scopes. Spotting scopes are a good way for people to watch
stars in their comfort of their houses or for field scientists to look at constellations. A good way to
attempt purchasing the spotting scope is through dividing it according to the primary purpose whether
it is bird watching, astronomy, hunting, marine , etc. Once the purpose has been chosen you can then
compare the different brands such as Barska, Bushnell, Celeston and other good brands. The step after
would be finding out whether you would want to use an angled or straight spotting scope. Once you
have selected the brand you can delve upon finding the right magnification power which can usually

Grendel Vs Beowulf
The story of Beowulf has been told for centuries all over Europe. However, there is one problem with
recreating the story and making it into a movie; each movie has a different plot line, theme, or
character back story. The differences in the movies may or may not have a large effect on the overall
story, but it does show how much stories can change just by the person that is telling the story.
For instance, in the first movie we watched, Beowulf 2005, Grendel was a troll whose mother was a
sea beast and his father was a troll. In Beowulf 2005, Grendel spoke using a series of grunting noises
and spoke very little English. In the second movie Beowulf 2007, Grendel was a monster whose

Blaise Pascal Fideism
In questioning the existence of God, the ideology of fideism is used to in support the existence of God
with the use of faith. Opposed to other various views, fideism relies on the use of faith and/or
revelation rather than depending single handedly on reason alone. Blaise Pascal is a French
philosopher that approaches the doctrine and beliefs of fideism using his wager argument to confirm
the concept that there is a monotheistic God in existence (269).
Pascal s ideology revolves around the wins and loses of betting. He states that if we do believe in a
God than our chances at happiness are achievable. He adds on saying, under the circumstance that we
do believe in a God, but He does not exist, then there is no much to lose in the end. Although, if we do
not believe that a god exists then they is all the much more to lose and happiness is not achievable.
This essentially means that believing in a God is better than not believing in God at all.
Going into further detail, Pascal begins his argument by explaining that If there is a God, he is
infinitely beyond our comprehension, since having neither parts nor limits, he bears no relation to
ourselves (323). This brings up the question of whether or not humans are able to decide if God is real.
He states that we are stuck between two decisions, two choices, or two infinities. These decisions of
infinities being God existing or God not existing. Pascal mentions that reason alone cannot help us
gravitate towards one decision

summer for a soccer tournament and instantly noticed the difference from the moment I arrived. All of

In order to score, the team with the ball must cross the end zone without having an illegal play,
otherwise known as a flag. The team is awarded 6 points and the kicker must either kick a Point After
Touchdown (PAT) for an additional point or the team can attempt to score two points by attempting to
again cross the end zone, but this time starting from the two yard line. The rules of soccer, however,
completely differ from those of American football. Like football there are 11 players on the field with
specific positions, but the object of soccer is for a player to get the ball into the other team s goal by
using any part of the body except the player s hands and arms. The goalie is the only player allowed to
touch the ball with the hands and arms and then only while he is located in his own penalty area
(upperdublinsoccerclub.org). If any of these rules are broken by the players, the referee gives the
player either a yellow card as a warning or a red card for an automatic ejection from the game. So, as
you can see, whereas football primarily utilizes your hands, soccer leverages everything but your
hands. In addition to this, all soccer players are required to wear shin guards and soccer cleats, but if it
is organized soccer, a team jersey, team shorts, and long socks are also required. In football, however,
the players are required to wear much more: football cleats, shoulder pads, thigh pads, knee pads, hip

Foreign Language And Its Effects On American Society
The foreign language deficit in America serves to be inimical to the future of American society.
America s foreign language curriculum displays a more than lackluster approach in relation to those
upheld in other countries. Unlike our European counterparts, most American school systems only
require that students acquire two foreign language credits to graduate. Most of the time, these courses
are either taught by some athletic coach who could really care less if you know how to conjugate the
verb ir correctly, or by an overly passionate foreigner who spends the class time intensively explaining
said conjugations to a class full of seniors who just want to graduate. In some states, this requirement
is even nonexistent.

For my Field Experience I chose to observe at Krahn Elementary which is a part of Klein Independent
School District. After my approval, I was assigned to four teachers and their classrooms. I observed at
Krahn Elementary on six Tuesdays between 15 September 2015 and 27 October 2015, and more or
less followed the schedule that was given to me by the Assistant Principal Ms. Shannon Strole. From
8:30 am to 9:15 am I observed Ms. Judy Burkes, who is a third grade Math and Science teacher. Her
classroom is comprised of twenty students which range from average to below average learners and a

10:30 am I observed Ms. Lisa Parker who is a Math co teacher and resource teacher at Krahn
Elementary for grades K 5. During my assigned time, Ms. Parker usually joined Mr. Duru s fifth grade
class of twenty three students as a co teacher and when required would pull out a group of six students
after initial instructions from Mr. Duru and would teach them the concepts separately at a slower pace.

mathematical word problems. These students were students with Learning disabilities, behavioral
issues and one of them was a student with ADHD. From 10:30 am to 11:15, I was with Ms. Janice
Bluhms, who is a

during the summer of 1991. The coup failed, resulting in the systematic removal of many military
units from its possession as well as the removal of its domestic security functions and the end of
Soviet Union. Post communist Russia broke what was left of the into several services. The two most
important of these were the Foreign Intelligence Service of Russia (SVR) and the Federal Security
Service (FSB), the former internal components of the service (Pringle, ... Show more content on

doing to stop these attacks? That is complex, one that has been exacerbated by our focus on the
Middle East. While we never took out eye off of Russia, Russia did increase its activities in the U.S.
and other western countries, using the Middle East conflict as cover. Operationally, agents are
attacking us from every front, both in the physical and cyber realms. The National Counterintelligence
and Security Center (NCSC) released a report indicating that Russian intelligence services are
conducting a range of aggressive activities to collect economic information and technology from U.S.
targets, particularly in cyberspace. The NCSC see cyberspace as a particularly vulnerable area for
Russia to exploit in the coming years. They assess that two trends, increased targeting of Russian
immigrants with advanced technical skills and increased economic integration of Russian companies
affiliated with the intelligence services in the U.S., will increase the collection threat from Russia in
the coming years (Office of the National Counterintelligence Executive,

  • 2. The Lost Worlds Of Flaherty Summary As a young boy in Michigan, Flaherty spent little time in school and more time living a nomadic, frontier life with his father, a mining engineer. His family soon moved to Canada and he soon found himself prospecting for gold and iron ore from camp to camp and during this series of expeditions, Flaherty learned to survive in the wilderness from the miners and the local Inuit ( The Lost Worlds of Flaherty ). After a second expedition to the Hudson Bay area, upon the suggestion of his boss, Sir William Mackenzie, Flaherty bought a Bell and Howell 16 mm film camera and decided to make a visual record of the extraordinary lives and customs he witnessed in the Canadian north ( The Lost Worlds of Flaherty ). Flaherty mentions in the preface of Nanook of the North that when he was not seriously engaged in exploratory work, he would compile films of the Eskimos living with him ( The Lost Worlds of Flaherty ). He also notes that he has no prior experience in filming. Considering the quality of Nanook, I find this particularly remarkable. That said, Flaherty s first efforts to make his visual record of the desolate Canadian north were wasted due to the film catching fire just as Flaherty finished editing it. Flaherty went north again, for the sole purpose of making a film, and this ultimately led to the making of Nanook of the North, which is essentially a typified, romanticized version of a young Inuk man and his family s life and struggles ( The Lost Worlds of Flaherty ). Even though some parts of his documentaries were staged, I believe Flaherty staged some of the events in his documentaries to present a more compelling story, and not necessarily to deceive the viewers or portray a skewed depiction of the subject. Also, given the technology at that time, Flaherty might have staged some scenes in his documentaries for practicality purposes. I don t think anyone would want to waste film just filming mundane everyday activities, given that film is expensive and hard to come by during the time. I believe Flaherty staged some scenes to create a structure for his documentaries. He did it to make the audience relate to his work more. That said, Flaherty was still a man of his time and he definitely did not see his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Summary of Defending Against the Indefensible Essay In Neil Postman s Defending Against the Indefensible , he suggests that our society has been culturally brainwashed. Therefore, Postman has given us seven key elements of critical thinking to help us understand the English language and avoid the manipulation of language: definition, questions, simplicity of words, metaphors, reification, style and tone, and the non neutrality of media. Postman s first principle is that a definition is only a means of helping us achieve our goals. Definitions do not have the power to stop us from achieving our purposes. Definitions will always have a bias. It is our job to spot that bias and question who wrote the definition, why, and for what purpose. The word organic is seen quiet frequently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What was considered right to Hitler was very contrary to what was right to Churchill during World War Two. Students who can understand the meanings of these small words will be able to understand how the media, politicians, and preachers may try to mislead or cover up. Fourth, students must realize how much metaphors are used in the english language. Not only are metaphors used so commonly, they also greatly influence the way we think about things. All subjects are based on metaphors. Education is currently seen as a business with the students as the clients. Language is a tree with deep roots. Metaphors are a cornerstone to how we grasp concepts and understand the knowledge we have. We really only know things in relation to other things, often by a metaphor Postman s fifth concept is reification. This is the confusing of words with things. It is with reification, that we can manipulate words to help us conceal ideas. Words like ethnic cleansing or final solution make a concept sound like it is a good thing, yet it really involves the massacre of millions of people. Reification displays to us that a person s word choice is profoundly influential to how we perceive a concept. Style and tone is the sixth concept used by Postman. All subjects of knowledge are like genres. They share certain qualities that are distinctive to the subject matter. A man of science could not write about history ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A contractual licence which is more relevant in this case is in effect permission to use or occupy land or property, this type of licence derives from an implied contract. The licensee does not have a legal estate however, A license normally infers occupational rights similar to that a hotel owner has over a guest, due to the level of control that the hotel owner exercises over their property the guest will not have an exclusive possession of the room they occupy and are seen ultimately as lodgers or a licensee. While there are the four different forms of licence it is vital to note that it is a very basic different between all four which has been recognised law for a long time. • 7. Compare And Contrast Japan And Europe Because Japan and France both existed within the genre of feudal society, they shared many economic similarities. Both feudal systems had common qualities of fief organization, similar inheritance customs, taxing systems and issues with debt, and the lack of social mobility characteristic of feudalism. In feudal societies, fiefs are awarded to officials in lieu of salaries. A fief typically was a plot of land, including household servants, agricultural laborers, and anyone else who lived on the land; however, it was above all a diffuse bundle of loose claims on rights with which one obtained the right to participate in the game of power present in feudal societies. A fief did not necessarily have to be land, but it was overwhelmingly so in both France and Japan because of the natural economy, led by agricultural pursuits; the more important part of a feudal agreement was not the land, per se, but rather the ties between lord and recipient. Moreover, in punishment for breach of feudal contract, forfeiture of the land was possible; the lords in France had the right to reclaim their gifted fief if they felt they were not well served. There was also the option of escheat, which allowed the lord to take back their fief in default of a rightful heir. Fiefdom was common to both France and Japan. Shiki rights in Japan were defined as a right to profit from the land ; they acted as a sort of deed or title, which could be bought, sold, inherited, and divided as the recipient of ... Witch Craft Trials Research Paper There has been a plethora of research conducted that supports the notion that witch craft trials occurred in Scotland primarily during the 16th and 17th centuries in England and Scotland and had an impact on the way people chose to live their lives during this time period. Witches were seen as people who had turned their backs on God and Christianity and entered a pact with the Devil. Due to this belief, people were quick to prosecute potentially witches to keep the community safe. Essay On Good Vs Evil Wuthering Heights Wuthering Heights: Good vs. Evil Emily Bronte s classical literary masterpiece, Wuthering Heights, can more or less be viewed as a struggle between conventional, civilized human behavior, as well as the wild, anarchistic side that each of us humans possess, although subtly. Bronte s piece can be summed up by the good vs. evil elements that include Wuthering Heights as opposed to Thrushcross Grange, Heathcliff vs. Edgar, and much more. These elemental set points lead to the conclusion that Wuthering Heights cannot be classified as a love story, as there is no happy ending, and the heroine dies at roughly the halfway point of the book. This aspect makes the masterpiece an enduring Gothic classic, as Bronte is able to transform characters feelings onto paper, unmatched by any in the dark literary realm. Bronte s inclusions of aspects such as ghosts, as well as the tranquility in which the Grange brings are the set pieces that make the novel a battle between good and evil, rather than simply a fictitious love account that ends in futility. Emily Bronte seemingly uses the two estates as a means of setting the tone for the novel s continuous battle between good vs. evil. Not only were we separated from society by entering the building, but we were also separated from the men that were a part of this ritual. This scarf magnified the weight of the separation of sexes because now there was a tangible marker of what we signified in this process. While the men resided in a larger room, the women were kept in a much smaller room in the back. The hydrogen peroxide soaked seeds did grow, but they grew much more slowly. The vinegar soaked seeds at least were able to withstand the soaking steps, but did not grow when planted. And the bleach soaked seeds were never planted at all because there were no intact seeds to plant after soaking. This experiment had unexpected results and interesting outcomes. Radish seeds are not the most durable, but they gave good results that were very reliable when the experiment concluded. In some cases, experiments like this may go wrong, or the solutions may not make a big enough impact on the seeds when soaked to find good results from. But although this procedure was not necessarily foolproof or perfect, it was as reliable and solid as it could possibly be for a home project with little equipment. • 21. Free Energy Machine The theory of Perpetual Motion and Energy The theory of perpetual motion and energy is a topic that is one that is almost an outcast by the scientific community. That is why it so interesting in my opinion. One day I was brain storming and this method just popped into my head. My hypothesis states that a bigger pulley on the router of an electric motor and a smaller pulley on the router of an alternator connected to a battery would put out higher amounts of energy than the same or even smaller pulley on the alternator. The interesting thing about this experiment is that the results actually matched my hypothesis. As far as getting this to run in a continuous fashion if you add an inverter and another battery to this system, the amperage would be enough to power the motor and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To do that the motor needs to have a lower voltage than needed in the system. A fan motor would probably be the best in this situation. The fan motor has a switch that allows different speeds for the motor and a better chance to get the RPM down to the best speed possible. If this mechanism were to work then there would be a clean and renewable source of electricity to distribute throughout the world. The next component in the system is the pulley. Pulleys are an ingenious invention that we use in everyday objects such as cars, bikes, and clocks. The way that this system is set up is like that of a car. In a car there are 4 different gears. There is first gear witch spins at the same speed or RPM as the motor does. As you up shift the RPM of the motor gets lower and the speed of the tires moves faster. With the pulleys in the right ratio there is the hope that the alternator will spin faster than the motor does thus putting out a surplus of electricity The choice of a metal chain or a rubber type belt was a tough one. Both of these options to drive this mechanism have their own strengths and weaknesses. The pros to the chain are that it is will wear out less easily, the chain wont slip as much and the chain also stands to be more efficient because it doesn t stretch as much as the rubber belt or any other non metal belt does which causes drag. The cons are that it can rust and it weighs more than a rubber belt. The pros to the rubber belt are that it is light ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The belief in ancient legends that formed subject material for the tragic drama had passed. The crowd that attended the theater at this time did so as a sort of religious celebration. It was under these circumstances that Euripides had to bury what might have been his true beliefs, and instead replace them with ideas that would relate to his audience. This did not mean that Euripides had to forgo his beliefs entirely. Rather, this meant that Euripides had to include his own interpretations of these ancient beliefs in a way that was not outwardly corrupt or blasphemous. By exploiting the human dimension of understanding beliefs, Euripides was able to insert ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Is it then Just exclaims Ion, that you who gave the laws / to mortals, should yourselves transgress those laws? (lines 450 451). Ion goes on to express his contempt with the gods that can clearly be seen as satirical: The penalty of forced embraces, thou, Neptune, and Jove, that reigns supreme in heaven, Will leave your temples treasure less by paying The mulcts of your injustice (lines 454 457). This reveals the nature of the satire that Euripides chose to pursue. This was more of a rhetorical example of how the gods fail in their own laws, yet man is bound by them. In using the fallacy of begging the question, Euripides allows for the audience to think that they can answer the question differently, yet Euripides has already put the conclusion, or answer, within the prose by using the premise, Will leave your temples treasure less... Amphytron, husband of Alcmene, who is the mother of Heracles, continuously uses satire when speaking of the gods. That makes the overall total of students enrolled in school reach around 50.3 million students (NCES 2017). Every student enters schooling with different academic skill levels, and ability grouping can help teachers raise students academic performances. Ability grouping is where students are grouped in the classroom based off their ability to learn, their academic skills, and their talents in the classroom (NEA 2017). Ability grouping improves academic performance in public elementary school classrooms. The purpose of ability grouping is to increase students achievement in the classroom. Research has shown that ability grouping has improved many math and reading grades throughout elementary schools. Ability grouping with smaller groups is a lot more common for reading groups than they for math groups. Ability grouping gives teachers the chance to work with students in smaller numbers. Research has been found that having smaller group sizes, because of ability grouping, also increases academic performances (Kutnick, Blatchford Baines 2002). Ability grouping gives teachers the opportunity to teach new information to kids that learn the same way and at the same pace. According to Kutnick et al. (2002), Children were least likely to work on tasks involving the introduction of new knowledge (p 195). When students are put into small groups, they are able to learn ... His depiction of small town life in India and of ordinary individuals struggling to make their lives and dreams worthwhile has an almost undeniable sense of appeal and beauty. His stories usually reflect this simplicity and good humour that have come to be associated with most of Bond s writing. Yet, there are certain aspects to his writing as it is true of any other great writer that deal with deeper and darker themes even if they aren t immediately apparent. In this paper an attempt has been made to analyse certain stories of the supernatural by Bond in order to assess how the character of the female has been represented with a special emphasis on examining an element of the sinister which seems to be associated with each of these women. Whether as ghosts or as real, living individuals, these women exhibit a tendency to inflict harm on other characters which marks them as being decisively dangerous. What this paper tries to ascertain is whether these female characters can be simply branded as being evil or if there are actual, justifiable reasons behind their actions which provokes them to act in the ways they do. The study thus seeks to shed some light on the intentions and motivations of these characters who are evidently more complex than they initially appear to be. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Opposed to other various views, fideism relies on the use of faith and/or revelation rather than depending single handedly on reason alone. Blaise Pascal is a French philosopher that approaches the doctrine and beliefs of fideism using his wager argument to confirm the concept that there is a monotheistic God in existence (269). Pascal s ideology revolves around the wins and loses of betting. He states that if we do believe in a God than our chances at happiness are achievable. He adds on saying, under the circumstance that we do believe in a God, but He does not exist, then there is no much to lose in the end. Although, if we do not believe that a god exists then they is all the much more to lose and happiness is not achievable. This essentially means that believing in a God is better than not believing in God at all. Going into further detail, Pascal begins his argument by explaining that If there is a God, he is infinitely beyond our comprehension, since having neither parts nor limits, he bears no relation to ourselves (323). This brings up the question of whether or not humans are able to decide if God is real. He states that we are stuck between two decisions, two choices, or two infinities. The rules of soccer, however, completely differ from those of American football. Like football there are 11 players on the field with specific positions, but the object of soccer is for a player to get the ball into the other team s goal by using any part of the body except the player s hands and arms.
