1. Q3- What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
From our research into publishing houses we have come to the conclusion that Bauer Media
would be the publishing house that would cater for our magazine. One reason for this was
because 56% of Bauer Medias readership is women therefore it would be great for our
magazine which is targeted at men because it means the readership of Bauer Media is
practically half and half. This means that it would cater a large amount of the audience in
which we have aimed to target whereas publishing houses such as Conde Nast cater a large
audience of women and small audience of men. Also Bauer Media already had a music
magazine in their repertoire but for a younger audience than we have aimed for. This means
that they would take our magazine because it would cater for an older audience of music
magazines. This would benefit the sales of our magazines because the publishing house
has already built up a wide audience for different magazines. This is a reason that we
haven’t gone for the publishing house of IPC media. Because it already has NME in their
collection it means that they may not have a big enough audience to share the sales across
both music magazines. Although one limitation of going with Bauer media would be that the
only magazines which they have to cater for men is Zoo and FHM therefore it would be
difficult to get the readership from men. Additionally the reason that we decided Bauer media
would be the correct publishing house because it was aimed at a younger audience and the
price of their magazines are at the lower end of pricing spectrum. This fits with our magazine
as it is priced at just £1.50 and priced to be affordable for the younger generation. In
comparison this is a reason that we would not use Conde Nast because it is all higher
pricing and aimed at a higher age who are able to afford and are willing to pay that for a
magazine.
