This document discusses three potential media institutions that could publish the author's new music magazine:
1) Bauer Media - A large European publisher known for music magazine Q that has a similar target audience. Their wide reach and expertise in music magazines makes them a good potential distributor.
2) Time Inc. - A major American publisher that owns over 80 magazines including NME, which also targets teenagers/young adults. Their large size and experience with the target audience could boost success.
3) Lynne Segall - Known for Billboard magazine, it has a large presence in the music industry market. Its experience and large audience in music genres could help attract more readers, but it may not want another music magazine.
1. QUESTION 3
WHAT KIND OF MEDIA
INSTITUTION MIGHT DESCRIBE
YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND
WHY?
2. BAUER MEDIA
Bauer media are very well known European based publisher that are mainly famous for
publishing the music magazine Q this magazine is very similar to mine in different ways the
target audience is very similar as it is focused on young adults and teenagers.
this company owns the right to more than 600 magazines, 400 digital products and 50
radio stations which the most noble being “kerrang!” this company could be a potential
distributer for my media product. as their magazines have a very similar target audience as
my music magazine I personally feel that both Bauer and my magazine can benefit from
this.
My magazine- due to the audience that Bauer already attract and the name they have
established for themselves this would attract a bigger audience for my new magazine,
Bauer can benefit in the sense that my magazine is new and could bring in a vaster
audience for their company as my magazine is aimed more at males and “kerrang!” is
aimed more at females. This could mean that their total audience would increase and their
brand would become much more influential.
3. TIME INC.
This popular American publishing company that would be able to publish my new
music magazine, this company is merged with warner communication and is owned
by time warner this major company publishes over 80 magazines including the hugely
successful magazine NME this is also very similar to my magazine!
NME magazine uses black, white and red colours just like my magazine my magazine
isn’t aimed at a particular genre however due to using these colours it may show that
it is more focused on males although I wanted it to me a unisex magazine. If time Inc.
published my magazine then this could boost the success of my magazine due to
them being a big company and k now a lot about my target audience as they are very
similar looking at teenagers to young adults.
Warner doesn't just own magazines it owns TV programmes such as E! which is a
huge channel all over the world and is aimed at similar ages to my magazine therefor
time Inc. would hugely benefit from publishing my new music charts magazine!
4. LYNNE SEGALL-
This is mostly known for the ,magazine billboard it has a vast
presence in their market of the industry and Is currently standing at
17,000 copies and has over 15 million people viewing their
publications yearly!
Both these facts are why I personally feel that it would hugely benefit
my magazine to be published by Lynne Segall-. In return Lynne
Segall- would be able to boost the genre of music that they are
hugely known for and attract a vaster audience.
the company's experience shows that they have the capability to do
most things such as access a genre that has not yet been exploited.
Their magazines tend to be based on the latest charts and this
means their audience will be the same as mine, although they
already have such a big music magazine they may not be interested
in publishing another.
