2. Publishing Companies - Bauer
Bauer is one of the UK’s biggest publishing
companies as it is run by four different
generations. Due to this they work to create
over 300 magazines in over 15 countries,
including publishing on TV and radio.
Bauer is a multi-platform media group based
solely in the UK that work by focusing on two
main divisions: Magazine and radio.
3. Publishing Companies – IPC Media
IPC Media is a multi-platform media company
that is known for over 60 iconic brands
worldwide.
IPC Media is one of the UK’s leading consumer
magazine publishing companies.
Their main target audience is to focus hugely on
a large quantity of adults.
4. Publishing Companies - BBC
The BBC is known for being a publishing
company both online and TV work. It is a
company that specialises on national
broadcasting across the UK and is one of the
most popular.
The company produces media through many
different forms, such as: Magazine, TV, and
radio but BBC is most known for their media
work through TV.
5. IPC
NME was published by IPC Media, I used NME magazine as one of the samples
in order to help me create my own front cover as it is a similar genre and target
audience to my own. I think if I published my magazine with IPC Media it would
be quite successful due to the magazines such as this. However, my magazine
would still challenge as it is not the exact same as the rest of the magazines IPC
Media publicises. For example NME is designed for men aged 17-25 who are
interested in Rock music. Whereas my magazine is designed for predominately
women, aged 16-25 who are interested in alternative-rock.
6. Bauer
Kerrang! Magazine is one of the many published by Bauer. I used Kerrang! magazine
a lot when it came to gathering ideas on how to design and create my own
magazine cover but also when it came to tackling my target audience. Kerrang! Has
a target audience of predominantly men, (45.3% women and 54.7% men), aged 15-
24 who are interested in the Rock genre. This is the closest statistics to my own
magazine out of any other magazine. Therefore I think my magazine will do very
well if published by Bauer publishing as they have with very similar magazines,
however they aren’t exactly the same and therefore will widen their market.
7. My Chosen Publishing Company
I have chosen company that I feel as though my magazine
would succeed with, while also widening the market
would be Bauer publishing.
I think that my magazine would be an asset to the
publisher as it would expand into new territory,
attracting or at the very least expanding the audience.
My magazine has a different layout and style to the
magazines similar in audience and genre. I chose this
company over IPC Media as they have more magazines
similar to mine and therefore have more success with
these genres and audience.
8. Competition?
My magazine will compete with other rock and alternative magazines
currently popular on the market such as ‘Q’, ‘NME’ and ‘Rocksound’. These
magazines have the same or similar genres to my own, that way my
magazine has fair competition.
I will compete by having lower prices that these magazines who are typically
priced at £3+, where as mine is £2.60. Although this is not much cheaper it
will still effect a readers decision.
My magazine is a fortnightly edition where as many of these magazines are
either weekly or monthly and therefore are too rare or too expensive to
pay weekly. I create a balance between the two.
I will also plan to make my magazine available online, this way I can create a
link between the magazine and social networking sites, online adverts,
linking websites, etcetera.
I also think that placing adverts within my magazine will be a good way to
generate publicity and ensure my target audience hear about my
magazine. I also include give aways, competitions and ways for the reader
to get in touch in order to ensure that the audience is satified.
