Taking a Look at Wetlands
What is it? Where is it?
Wetlands are an eco system that is home to both native and foreign species, especially waterbirds and are wet some
of the time. The inter tidal wetlands of Bicentennial Park may be threatened by the quality of the fresh and salt water
that flushes them as a result of the human activities in the catchment and Waterways. In this report, we will explore
the mangrove wetlands in Bicentennial Park, Olympic Park, Homebush. The sixty five hectare Badu Mangroves are
listed in the Directory of Important Wetlands in Australia and is an ecologically significant estuarine wetland system.
The wetland was created because of a series of land reclamation over several decades, including extensive mangrove
stands, open water waterbird refuge and an estuarine creek system. The park offers a variety of pathways and
boardwalks for spectacular viewing opportunities, allowing the animals to live peacefully while the wetland system
can be enjoyed and studied. The Waterbird Refuge is rich in bird life, and provides habitat for large numbers and
species of birds, including migratory species protected under international agreements.
What s polluting the mangroves and how is it being solved?
From anecdotal evidence taking a tour on the Kadu boardwalks you will find that there are a numerous of items
being litter on the mangroves including:
Plastic
Take away packaging
Glass
Bicentennial Park has a sustainable process to water conservation based on stormwater

The Importance Of Lust In Philomeda , Tales From Ovid
Lust is a strong feeling of desire for someone or something which can turn into a dangerous feeling if it is not
handled in the right manner. Lust can cause one to do things that they wouldn t normally do, especially if it
overwhelms one s mind set. It is a hard feeling to ignore, but ignoring it is for the best because then dangerous
situations will be avoided. In the myth Tereus , Tereus is overwhelmed by lust for Philomela, which leads him to
rape and abuse. In the myth Castillo and Arcas , Jupiter has a deep desire for Castillo, so he rapes her and leaves
Castillo pregnant and alone. In the myth Phaethon , his lust for power causes him to put the entire earth in danger. In
Tales From Ovid, by Ted Hughes, Ovid conveys that when one is consumed by a deep feeling of lust, their morals
shift. In the myth Tereus , Tereus, the protagonist, is overcome by lust for his wife s sister, Philomela, which makes
him do gruesome things. His wife s only desire was to see her sister. Tereus was able to fulfill her desires, but the
moment he laid eyes on her, he couldn t help his feelings of lust. This deep and demented feeling of lust drove him to
kidnap her, abuse her, and rape her. Ovid shows his change in morals by saying, The lust that took hold of him now
combined the elemental forces of his national character and his own (Hughes page 215). Ovid then goes on to
conveys how strongly he desires Philomela by using the simile, His lust was like an iron furnace first black,

Roman Corinthian Temples
The Roman Corinthian temples were a testament to the construction techniques and its architecture was heavily
influenced by the Etruscans. Romans worshipped several deities and thus temples served as a place of high
importance which was adorned with reliefs and sculptures. A typical Roman temple, for example, Temple of
Augustus and Roma consisted of a cella housing the main deity and approached through a colonnaded portico
(pronaos) by means of a flight of stairs. The temples were constructed with the help of concrete and oriented
themselves to face east towards the rising sun and entered through the west. The column order seen in the Roman
Corinthian temples was inspired by the Greek architecture. Vitruvius, the Roman architect likened the

The Negative Effects Of Globalization On The Labor Market
Negative Impact of Globalization on the Labor Market Kseniia Kharchevnykova ILSC Globalization is known to be
found almost in all countries all over the world. The definition of globalization is quite easy to understand, it is the
process of integration and co operation between different countries. So, how does globalization influence the labor
market? Although there are some benefits of globalization in several areas like culture and business, it has a negative
impact on the labor market. Serious consequences of trade liberalization, fast expanding of technology at factories
and plants all around the world and growing gap between manufacturing producing countries and agricultural
producing countries are known to be three major ways globalization affects the labor market. Consequences of trade
liberalization are known to be one of the major issues that reflects negative impact on the labor market of the
globalization. Unfortunately, these days only high skilled workers are able to find good jobs with high salaries, while
many people lose their jobs, so unemployment in those countries began increasing rapidly. For example, research
reveals that trade liberalization in Mexico in the mid to late 1980s led to increased relative wages of high skilled
workers (Najdeni, 2016, para 4). In addition to this, some experts predicted that there will be great changes in the
demand for unskilled workers and growth their salaries. They might have expected

Pros And Cons Of Net Neutrality
Net Neutrality Regulation Pros As previously stated, net neutrality is a complex subject and it has many layers. One
issue of major of concern is that of fast lanes and the establishment of net neutrality would prevent ISPs from
forming these types of connections. Simplified, a fast lane is line of service that provides faster upload and download
speeds. A fast lane would allow ISPs to charge companies such as Netflix, Skype, PlayStation Plus, and other
streaming services for faster connections that would allow consumers to access the services easier and faster.
Proponents of net neutrality worry that the extra expenses for fast lanes could become a formidable challenge for
startups and small business owners. Large corporations typically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many neutrality proponents contend that failing to develop and enforce net neutrality will lead to the ability of ISPs
to block access to content. Currently, there is a freedom of choice in that ISPs are unable to obstruct certain sites or
contents over others but that hasn t always been the case. There have been several cases over the last few years
where ISPs have moved to block internet content. Comcast is probably the best known culprit. In the early to mid
2000 s, Comcast monitored network traffic patterns and began blocking certain websites (Ammori, 2014). The sites
that were targeted were those that are known as peer to peer. Peer to peer (P2P) sites utilize technology that allow
users to share data without having a centralized server. There have been instances where illegal data has been shared
but it would be impossible for an ISP to determine that simply from traffic patterns. Peer to peer sites are not the
only ones that have been targeted. In 2005, an ISP in North Carolina moved to block traffic that allowed users to
access Vonage, an application that allows users to make telephone calls via the internet. AT T had a contract with
Apple that asked AT T to block all applications that offered video chat over a cellular network. This allowed Apple s
application, Facetime, to become the preferred application of iPhone

The Abdduction By Joyce Carol Oates Analysis
The Abduction Joyce Carol Oates has captivated the imagination of the reader within her short story The Abduction.
There are many components to making a story great as well, and in his Ted Talk The Clues to a Great Story , Andrew
Stanton goes into detail about the dos and don ts of story. Joyce Carol Oates uses several of the positive references
from Stanton s Ted Talk throughout her short story to grab the reader s attention and envelope them into the story of
a girl gone missing. As anyone can imagine it is fascinating to read a story about something we would never want to
happen to ourselves. Whether it be a disappearance or a murder, the suspense intrigues the reader and triggers them
to want to find out the ending. The main character in The Abduction is a seventeen year old girl with the so called
maturity of someone much older, who slips up and puts herself into a dangerous situation. She is abducted. Joyce
Carol Oates immediately turns the reader s attention towards the girl directly into the situation, personally placing
them into the story trying to find out how to escape. In Stanton s Ted Talk he explains the concept of Don t give them
four, give them two plus two. Give the reader two pieces of information separately and let them put it together on
their own. Oates uses this concept from the beginning when she says, it wasn t actually right away that she
understood something was wrong and he was making an effort not to talk too fast or get too excited and wasn t
paying all that much attention where he was driving to lead the reader in the direction of an abduction occurring.
This concept of leading the reader to the answer allows them to work for what they want in the end.
Stanton also discusses how the audience needs to like the main character as well in his quote, another fundamental
thing we learned was about liking your main character. from his Ted Talk. Within her story, Oates pulls on the
heartstrings of the reader by making the main character a naive teenage girl attempting to get home who stumbles
into the wrong situation. In the quote, she was seventeen years old...walking there, alone, her shoulders hunched
against the wind...she was asked by this man from Oates s story,

Birthday Mark by Nathaniel Hawthorne
The discovery of electricity opened the door to many mysteries that challenged scientists of the nineteenth century.
Nathaniel Hawthorne writes of some challenges that man could run into during the exploration and application of
new technology in The Birthmark. These challenges are not entirely physical but they are more so about an internal
struggle within Victorian mindsets. In The Birthmark there are only three characters: Aylmer, a scientist, Georgiana,
Aylmer s wife, and Aminadab, Aylmer s lab assistant. Hawthorne isolates the characters in their caste to present
individual viewpoints of a tragic flaw. Each character promotes innocence but they are caught up in traditional
values. Hawthorne writes of an honest but fatal mistake ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His assistant, Aminadab is a sub human in his eyes (Fairbanks, 103). Aminadab is a complete contrast to Aylmer but
none of Aylmer s experiments would be possible without the help of this human machine (Hawthorne, 298). He is of
great importance to Aylmer, but Hawthorne makes it clear that Aylmer thinks of himself much higher than the
common man. Aminadab s importance to the story lies within the fact that he is an invisible character everywhere
except the lab. His profound contrast to Aylmer s character away from Georgiana provides the reader with a clearer
picture of the mad scientist as he attempts to overthrow nature. When Aylmer fails to do so, Aminadab laughs
triumphantly at the tragic hero s attempt to control nature. These two characters show opposing thoughts and
reactions to the murder of Aylmer s now perfect, dead bride. Hawthorne s heavy use of symbolism carries a lot of
undertones that reveals irony on many levels as he wraps up the story. The most obvious is that Aylmer murders his
lovely bride when he perfects Nature. Georgiana is enamored by Aylmer s experiments even though he often fails.
She gains confidence and submits herself willingly but only to vicariously pursue happiness through her husband s
experiment. Knowing that her birthmark makes her an object of horror to the one she loves, she finds life to be a
burden and is willing to risk her own life for both of their happiness (Hawthorne 292).

The Problem Of Social Psychology
Social psychology is the study of how people think, feel, and act as a result of being present among others. At times,
a direct contact is not required to fully influence a person. The imagined or implied presence of others is sufficient to
carry out a full effect on another person. Examples to portray how the impact of others can have an authority over
the way we function socially can be found almost anywhere around us. The media is filled with many examples from
recent headlines that may offer an illustration of this phenomenon. In recent news, the National Public Radio (NPR),
a non profit membership media organization, aired an interview discussing Syria s bloody civil war. With more than
four million people who have fled the country thus far, it has easily been named one of the worst refugee situations
in history. Millions more have also been displaced within Syria. Although we rarely hear from the people inside,
NPR was able to air an interview it conducted with one of the citizens who lives in the broken country. Saeed al
Batal, a photographer and filmmaker who did not use his real name for security reasons, reveals how horrific the
experiences currently are in Syria. In this paper, the transcript of the interview will be used portray how, even when
situations are clearly appalling and catastrophic, the presence of others effects people s contributions and willingness
to help. It will also be used to psychologically understand why people help, why people do not, when

Book Of Jeremiah Research Paper
However, to embrace the exiles from Judah in their circumstances and reflect on the message of God spoken through
the Prophet Jeremiah found in 29:10 14 one must know the circumstances that led up to the Babylonian destruction
of Judah and the oppression of the kingdom s people as exiles. One must know the destruction before one may see
the grace of God bestowed upon the people in a message of renewal, restoration and salvation. Judah, the southern
kingdom, came under threat from the Babylonians during the time of Jeremiah the Prophet which was from 628 until
586 B.C.E. Egypt had aided Judah during the first threat in 588 B.C.E. and Judah did not fall. However, during the
second attack on Judah the monarchs were not able to defend Judah and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In chapter 29, one hears Jeremiah say to accept servitude to the Babylonians. The Judeans have come under
punishment from God for their sins. They have received the punishment due to them according to God and their
lives it seems at this point are at the hands of their enemies the Babylonians even though their fate is in God s hands.
Jeremiah continues to speak out prophetically fighting against those who are false prophets who are intent on telling
the people warm and fuzzy lies to cover up and deny the brokenness that has caused them to be in exile. God has
spoken to Jeremiah of why Judah must be in exile, why Judah must come to terms with what has happened to them.
Jeremiah knows God wants Judah to turn and repent for turning away from God but the people do not listen to
Jeremiah. When the people finally listen to Jeremiah they are already in exile in Babylonia. Jeremiah must send
letters to proclaim God s Word to them. Jeremiah was one of those who were left behind in Judah. Jeremiah was left
behind seeing the destruction of Jeremiah s homeland first hand. Jeremiah has been deemed the weeping prophet
because of Jeremiah s deep care and love for the people of Judah and for God. Jeremiah feels not only the grief God
experiences for having to destroy the people but Jeremiah feels the grief of the people being destroyed. Jeremiah
weeps in chapter 9 because Jeremiah knows what is coming. But on the other hand, Jeremiah wanted to see the truth
of God s reality come to fruition because Jeremiah knew of God s great love for God s people. The ethos Jeremiah
uses in the prophetic word Jeremiah speaks is genuine and in no way false as the words of the false prophet,
Hananiah when Hananiah spoke saying the exile would only last two years (Jer

Black And White By Lila Quintero Weaver
We are all born equal is a concept that was not widely known in Souther America during the 1960s. Some accepted
the multitude of races while many did not. In Darkroom: a Memoir in Black White by Lila Quintero Weaver she
depicts from the eyes of an outsider of what truly happened during this trying time between races. Weaver and her
family had no idea of the history that was about to be made when they arrived back in the United States. While in
Argentina her family was seen as different they were not treated as poorly as the blacks in America. Throughout the
novel Weaver chooses to use black and white images to depict how she saw the world in the time during the Civil
Rights movement for many reasons but some that stand out was the lack of perspective, the choice of racism based
on skin color, and because of what she grew up loving, her fathers pictures. By the time Weaver and her family had
arrived slavery was a thing of the past but the ideas of the social standards of blacks had still not left the minds of
white southern Americans. Children are not born racist and never will be the, selfishness of the parents and their
beliefs is what causes the outrageous comments and actions to continue between generations. Blacks being forced to
sit in the back at movies (Weaver 72), Blacks refusing to join in on White s affairs even when asked (Weaver 74 75),
not being allowed to dine together (Weaver 106), and vulgar language that should never be repeated are just a few

The Informative Role Of African Americans In The News Media
In the United States, the News media is one of the most powerful institutions in the country. It serves the role as the
informative arm of democracy, a vital function when the government depends upon public participation. This
informative role gives the news media tremendous power, but can very often be negatively impacted by ulterior
profit and political motives. Different Network s portray the same story in different lights based upon their respective
political leanings to garner ratings and revenue. The impact of this ambiguity and manipulation of the truth on
different segments of the American public is profound, specifically in the news media s usage of racial stereotypes
and their subsequent adoption by the private consumers of this media. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the times of slavery and later Jim Crow, the impact of racism on African Americans was clearly seen, with
generational bondage and segregation respectively. In today s day and age, the impact of negative racial stereotypes
on African Americans are no longer enumerated in law, but still just as significant. One of the most important racial
determinants of socioeconomic standing has been the continuation of a system of pseudo segregation that keeps
black populations separate from white populations, (Williams, 177). Concepts such as ghettoization and redlining
represent holdovers from the former status quo of segregation that have been supported and justified by both
personal and news stereotyping. Blacks being forced, through economic and educational disadvantage, to live in a
certain area or being prevented from moving into specific neighborhoods cause self perpetuating cycles of inequality
that keep blacks separate and unequal from their white counterparts. This can be clearly seen in the strong
relationship that exists between a school being predominantly black and concentrated poverty, and the fact that an
intensely segregated African America/and or Latino school is 14 times more likely to be a high poverty school than
one that is less than 10% black or Latino, (Williams, 179). Another significant indicator of the lower socioeconomic
status experienced by

Gothic Elements In Turn Of The Screw, And The Other
Gothic Literature is a form of literature that represents the supernatural or unknown elements found in many literary
pieces. Gothic Elements consist of dark atmospheres, the supernatural, uncanny figures, damsel in distress,
physiological breakdown, and many other elements. Elements of gothic literature are usually not used in a literal
sense; authors usually use metaphors to get the aspect of gothic literature across to the audience. Elements of gothic
literature are presented throughout the book Turn of the Screw, by Henry James, and the film The Others , by
Alejandro Amenábar. The Others was actually based off of the book Turn of the Screw. Both have many similarities

Within both literary works the element of the damsel in distress is strongly presented to create a gothic literature. In
The Turn of the Screw, the governess plays the role by displaying her ongoing battle with the ghosts over the safety
of the children. Within her first couple of days at the house, she is already seeing the ghosts of the old governess,
Miss Jessel and the butler, Peter Quint. In the book, the governess constantly tells about her concern that the children
are in danger. In the book, James writes, Dear little Miles, dear little Miles, if you knew how I want to help you! It s
only that, it s nothing but that, and I d rather die than give you a pain or do you a wrong ; this shows the governesses
helpless obsession with trying to keep the children safe (108). In this conversation with Miles, the governess is
trying to get him to tell her Quint blew out the candles but Miles replies that it was him (James 108). This leads her
to become distressed over her inability to protect the children from the ghosts. Thus, she is playing the role of a

Captive Orcas Killer Whales
Though often seen as fierce killing machines, Orca whales, more commonly known as killer whales, are much
different. In some ways, these mysterious creatures are much like humans. Many people are fascinated by these
whales when they see them perform in marine parks such as SeaWorld. What most people don t realize is that the life
of these whales is not as great as it may seem. There is much evidence that proves captive life will never be
adequate. There is no doubt that life in captivity is no match for life in the wild. Orcas exhibit unnatural behaviors
and aggressive tendencies in captivity that do not occur in the wild. In captivity, orcas have been known to show
aggressive tendencies resulting in injury and even death. While there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The longest a captive born Orca has very lived is twenty five years (Rose, 3). The average life expectancy is six
years in captivity. Eighty six percent of 135+ whales in captivity since 1961 are now dead (KIWE, 3). SeaWorld, one
of the most famous marine parks exhibiting Orca whales, has experienced approximately one Orca death a year since
beginning their breeding program. It is reasonable and logical to expect at least a third of all captive whales to still
be alive today considering the number of males and females, years since the first Orca entered captivity, and life
expectancies in the wild, but only twenty percent is still living. The most parsimonious explanation for this failure to
show improved survivorship, despite the effort by Oceanaria to advance husbandry techniques in the past forty five
years, is that Orcas are inherently unsuited to confinement (Rose, 3). Not only are Orcas far too intelligent to be held
captive, but also captivity does not meet their familial and social needs. In the wild, Orcas have complex familial and
social relationships with those in their pods that they are not able to sustain in captivity due to being placed in a pool
with and artificial family. Orcas typically spend their entire lives with their families unless taken away (Cronin, 2).
In captivity, the young are separated from their mothers. At SeaWorld, after a four and a half year old Orca was taken

Hope Is The Thing With Feathers By Emily Dickinson And...
The word hope is often used in moments of despair, more precisely to lift people out of those moments. For so many,
hope is the light at the end of the tunnel, in the moments when it is hard to get back up it is often this ambiguous
term that helps them get up. Of course, all words take on several meanings, and there are always different ways
someone can interpret a word. However, according to the Oxford Online Dictionary hope is a feeling of expectation
and desire for a particular thing to happen (Oxford Dictionaries). More often than not, hope is a feeling rather than
something people express verbally. The poems Hope is the thing with feathers by Emily Dickinson and Dare I Hope?
by Sophia White both address the term hope. Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both of the poems that I previously mentioned are focused around interpreting the term hope. As seen in the
paragraphs before, it is easy to interpret the word in different ways, and that is precisely what these two poems are
doing. Although both poems take their own approach to the word hope and do not share the same structure, there are
some consistencies between each author s interpretation. Both the poems by Sophia White and Emily Dickinson are
centered around hope, however, the interpretations are very different, using symbols, metaphors and the structure of
the poem to get their points across. The poem Hope is the thing with feathers by Emily Dickinson begins its first two
lines with a metaphor. That perches in the soul And sings the tune without the words (2 3). These opening lines bring
us into the rest of the poem where the author is describing the word hope through the metaphor of a bird. Dickinson
continues to use metaphors throughout the poem. Later in the poem, she describes different aspects of hope. And
sore must be the storm/That could abash the little Bird/That kept so many warm (6 8). This section is referring to

God Of War Research Paper
The world was changing. It had now been 200 years since the United States of America had fallen and with it
monotheism. The world was observed upon by four Gods known to the people as The Square. The Square consisted
of the God of War, the God of the Sea, the God of the Sky, and the fourth was un known. Legend states the fourth
will rise when needed to resolve a conflict like no other. Many self centered leaders had claimed themselves to be the
fourth member of The Square but ironically in all cases that leader tended to lose power within a year.

Naked Lunch and A Modest Proposal Essay
Naked Lunch and A Modest Proposal
In 1729, Jonathon Swift published an essay titled A Modest Proposal, which dealt with the issue of homelessness
among the poor families of his country. His satirical proposal to control the population of homeless children stirred a
debate on the morality of his proposal. Two hundred and thirty years later in 1959, William S. Burroughs published a
novel entitled Naked Lunch, which dealt with the desperate struggle of drug addiction and the governments role in
rehabilitating addicts. Inspired by Swifts Modest Proposal, Burroughs satirical portrait of drug addiction was also
controversial. Both Swift and Burroughs addressed serious issues of their respective times, with both drug addiction

(Swift, par. 33) Of course, Swift was not serious in his proposal, but he was serious about helping improve the
situations of the poor in his country. By directly addressing the situation, Swift addressed the issue of homelessness
in a manner that was both bold and effective. It was bold in that it was a very controversial way of dealing with the
problem. No rational human being would propose cannibalism as a solution to homelessness, but it s use is effective
as a voice that stands out and causes people to think about what he is dealing with. By suggesting cannibalism, Swift
draws on one of the most wide spread taboos in the world to repulse his audience into realizing that homelessness
was a serious problem. Swift was tired of hearing ideas proposed to deals with the poor, in his opinion there was too
much talk and not enough action: But as to myself, having been wearied out for many years of offering vain, idle,
visionary thoughts, and at length utterly despairing of success, I fortunately fell upon this proposal, which, as it is
wholly new, so it hath something solid and real, of no expense and little trouble (Swift,par.31) By stirring up such
strong reactions to it, Swift cause people to really think about the problem of homelessness and ways to help deal
with the problem. In the novel Naked Lunch, written by

College Dropout Papers
College Dropouts throughout the U.S.
There are many reasons why over the years the United States has experienced a high college dropout rate among
college students. The dropout rate results in unqualified and poorly skilled workers who eventually apply for low
paying jobs and then realize the importance of a college degree. College dropout rates throughout the U.S. are
caused by several reasons, including, lack of finance, lack of academic readiness, and stress. Many students have
aspirations about attending the college of their dreams, but many people lack financial support and are not able to go
because of high tuition payments, such as housing, and other college expenses. U.S. Student Loans Debt Statistics
for 2017 indicate that the cost of attending college is becoming a growing burden for a huge portion of Americans.
(Student Loan Hero). Students are left with the option of dropping and leaving school. Even after receiving some
financial support, such as scholarships and grants, students have limited amount of money to pay off their expenses.
At the start of their college career, students apply for the colleges they would like to go to, and many forget about the
financial decision that is required to pay for college. A 2010 study on more than 200,000 freshmen at four year
colleges, more students rated themselves as below average in emotional health than ever before. The financial stress
of worrying about their college loans and whether they ll find a job after college and the day to day stress of making
decisions for themselves in all aspects of their lives. (Allianz). Unfortunately, freshman students are the main group
of college students that go through financial conflicts, leading to stress about how to pay for college. Some students
choose to work their way through college. Others decide they d rather be making money working full time than
pursuing a costly degree. Still others become discouraged at the prospect of incurring loan debt (College View).
According to Public Agenda, Work is the top reason young adults give for not returning to college once they leave.
More than a third (36 percent) of those who left school say that even if they had a grant that fully paid for tuition

Castles In The Middle Ages
Castles evolved over the time from the early beginnings of the Middle Ages all the way to the end of the period.
These significant pieces of architecture started out as a simple structures and eventually turned into something a lot
more complex and innovative. The castles were where the kings and lords lived with their families. Also, a bunch of
staff members lived there. They were needed to carry out all the jobs. The system is called manorialism and it is
when peasants and/or serfs would do work in the lord s estate or castle (Feudalism in Europe). The reasons these
castles were built was to ensure protection to the important people of the time. Most castles in the Medieval Period

They needed to defend their territory. The first real castles they built were motte and bailey castles. These castles had
a large mound, or motte, and then the keep would go on top of that. It was almost impossible to get up that motte.
The other aspect of these special castles was the bailey. This is where the followers of the lord lived. There were
many structures inside the bailey including stables, storehouses, bakeries, kitchens, houses, and quarters for soldiers
( Castle ). A wooden fence called the palisade surrounds the building and a ditch called a fosse also surrounds the
bailey. Windsor castle was one of the first motte and bailey castles built in Europe. Concentric castles had two or
three walls that went around the keep. The inside walls were built even higher than the walls that were on the
outside. This meant that the soldiers/defenders were able to fire arrows over the heads of the soldiers defending the
outside walls ( Castle ). There was also a death hole which was in the middle of two walls which would trap an
intruder who entered. A moat could also be added for extra protection. These two castles were common in that time

National Intelligence Reform And Terrorism Prevention Act...
Homeland Security is the intersection of evolving threats and hazards with traditional government and its
responsibilities for civil defense emergency response law enforcement, customs border control and immigration.
Moreover, the term enterprise is a national effort that refers to the collective efforts and shared responsibilities of
federal, state local, tribal, territorial, nongovernmental and private sector partners as well as individuals ( U.S.
Department of Homland Security, 2010). Since the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, the concept of
National Intelligence was arranged by the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004. As that was
formulated, the IC community was known to be more coordinated and effective. The Act also made it possible for
the integration of domestic and foreign dimensions of us intelligence to eliminate gaps and understanding national
security threats. Also, this brought about the mission of the Department of Homeland Security and future capabilities
of the department (Noftsinger, 2007).
In any organization it is imperative that higher management assess progress from the start of a program to the current

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Children With...
Children today are affected by a number of developmental and behavioral disorders. One that has become very
common over the years is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD. This disorder is diagnosed to
individuals who cannot focus well and have apparent restless behavior. Those who are diagnosed with this disorder
seem to be young or adolescent, and the numbers are continuing to increase. Due to the increase in numbers, many
alarmed parents are quick to jump to giving their kids medication. This method is quite controversial and has some
advantages and disadvantages to it. Some believe that today s physicians will over diagnose children with ADHD,
leading to normal kids receiving unneeded prescriptions of powerful stimulants. However, there is still a large need
of medication for children who are truly suffering from this mental disorder. When one is properly diagnosed with
ADHD, there are many advantages to treating with medication. ADHD was first discussed in 1902 by British
pediatrician Sir George Still. He described it as an abnormal defect of moral control in children. He discovered that
the children with ADHD had a harder time controlling their behaviors when compared to typical children, but this
didn t make them unintelligent. Also in 1902, Sir George Still published some lectures to the Royal College of
Physicians in England where he talked about a group of children with what appeared to be behavioral problems. This
was caused by a genetic dysfunction

Revolutionary War was already at a disadvantage before they even stepped foot onto the area of Valley Forge. You

Reflective Essay About Rap
I caused myself to miss out on a possible great experience with music. Since the start of 2016, a new rap era called
Mumble Rap caused a spur of people to spew their dislike of rappers who predominately used adlibs in their songs
along with extremely low rapping ability. Well known mumble rappers are: Lil Yachty, Lil Uzi Vert, 21 Savage,

opinion of the much older people of the hip hop audience. I wanted to be all high and mighty as those individuals

Japanese Literature Throughout History And History
In Japanese literature throughout history, there tends to be an idea of nature that is not nature as it really is, but is a
projection of the subjective self. This is portrayed through the concept of Mappō. Mappō in Japanese Buddhism, is
the age of the degeneration of the Buddha s law, when only the teachings remained, the practices were no longer
pursued, and enlightenment was a mere word. This is a concept that has substance, especially when combined with
mujō, the idea of impermanence. Mujō became an idea because Buddha taught that because all things within our
lives and our world are constantly changing, it s important to remember that nothing is permanent. Kamo no Chōmei
s writing presents a variety of elements related to Mappō, which, through the concept of mujō, shows the
impermanence of nature as well as humanity fading into the vastness of nothingness. Through the traditions of
simplicity, isolation, and religion, specifically Buddhism and the Lotus Sutra, Hōjōki shows this disastrous fleeting
through a calm, poetic, narrative voice. This paper will argue that themes of nature are connected to the idea of the
subjective self, through impermanence, and studies how Chōmei s worldview affects his perspective on nature and
the natural world.
Immediately, Kamo introduces Hōjōki with a smooth, pessimistic, poetic tone, describing the impermanence of foam
floating in a river pool. This gives the reader an abrupt sense of sadness which is further produced through a direct

Harriet Burge s Model
For decades, experts have investigate the role of mycotoxins and how they related to people suffering negative health
effects after occupying a water damaged building. In 1966, the early years of this investigation, Harriet Burge, a
renowned industry leader in fungal contamination, gave a risk assessment to review the indoor contaminations of
mold. What did they incorporate?
Burge s model examined both the allergic and poisonous characteristics related to mold. During the study of
mycotoxins, Burge s model showed that the majority of mold growth has not developed extensively enough to
produce harmful health effects. In the years that followed, many experts challenged that assessment on numerous
fronts.

was no longer able to make payments on their twenty six billion dollar debt. When it was discovered that the
Government and country had gone bankrupt the peso (Filipino currency) suffered an instant 21% devaluation. In
1984 the economy had decreased nearly 7% since the previous year, and it lost another 3.8% the following year.
People in the upper class who were involved in banking and other financially alert professions quickly saw the
disturbing fate of their economy and vocally protested Marcos s dictatorship. Although the people living in a rural
area were not as aware of the economic problems as those living in a the metropolitan area, they were not immune

Marcos spontaneously choose to hold a new election in the middle of his term, hoping that it would restore people s

initiated a group called National Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL), whose job was to protect the ballet

Marcos s Commission on Elections (COMELEC) acknowledged him the winner.

Upper Three Forks In Painted Woods Case Study
The upper Three Forks in Painted Woods has shown poor oil production and low oil saturation compared to the
surrounding acreage. Previous assessments suggested that the primary cause for this anomaly was due to the
Pronghorn acting as a barrier for primary migration from the lower Bakken shale into the upper Three Forks. Current
assessment indicates that, while the Pronghorn is a tight and fine grained rock, it is not entirely impermeable. The
Pronghorn is believed to only partially inhibit primary migration, and is not the primary factor for the poor
performance across Painted Woods. The lower Bakken shale thins drastically across the Painted Woods region. This
thinning greatly reduces the amount of hydrocarbons generated across the region. ... Show more content on

PRONGHORN AS A PRIMARY MIGRATION BARRIER Based off of MICP data collected from core (Figure 19),
the Pronghorn siltstone has a permeability on par with the upper and lower Bakken shales. The lack of permeability
is supported by lithological analysis indicating a clay content of up to 50 % (Figure 20) across the Painted Woods
asset. The low permeability and high clay content shows that the Pronghorn does have the potential to occlude
primary migration of hydrocarbons from the lower Bakken shale into the underlying upper Three Forks. However,
this only has a minimal effect on the overall potential of the upper Three Forks as a whole. Saturation trends in the
Pronghorn and the upper Three Forks (Figure 21), indicates that hydrocarbons are being occluded from the lower
Bakken into the Three Forks, but not entirely. Oil saturation gradually decreases from the top of the Pronghorn to the
base indicating less hydrocarbons are being pushed into the upper Three Forks. However, the oil saturation never
reach 0% and only decreases to approximately 60 to 70 % water saturation. The oil saturation then gradually
increases from the top of the Three Forks to the top of the first claystone. This trend is observed throughout all the
wells within Painted Woods, independent to the thickness of the Pronghorn. Even though there is less volume of
generated lower Bakken hydrocarbons, oil is still able to be transmitted through the Pronghorn across Painted
Woods. However, the quantities transmitted are likely less compared to other

Should Animals Be Kept In Zoos Essay
Zoos are the places where animals are kept. Some people argue that animals shall not be kept in zoos as they deserve
freedom. Zoos cannot provide them with enough space, therefore, they cannot run around so as to grow up freely.
On the other hand, some people argue that animals should be kept in zoos. Nowadays, forests and mountains have
been cut down by people. If we leave animals alone, they might have nowhere to find food and nowhere to live. It is
for the sake of the animals themselves that we keep them in the zoos.

Nowadays, there is an ongoing heated discussion among people on the topic whether wild animals should be kept in
zoos, and there is no common consensus among people on it. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The larger animals seemed to go quietly about their business but the animal that caught my attention was the adult
elephant that seemed to be pacing up and down out of boredom. This is understandable because even though the park
has given the elephants massive amounts of green space to themselves, in the wild they are used to hundreds and
hundreds of miles that become their domain. The equivalent would be like placing a human under house arrest.
The more dangerous animals like lions and tigers are also given their own large enclosures and people can view
them from behind a glass screen. Their focus on that day was on keeping out of the sun by lying under shady trees
and Izmir zoo is very much backing the stance that if you do not get to see an animal then you should return at a
different time. They are not forcing the animals into any ridiculous side shows involving party tricks and silly
costumes.
Animals aside, the park does give a lot of information to visitors about the animal that they are seeing and two days
within a week are dedicated to educational tours for children. This is to describe the traits, natural habitat and eating
routines of an animal. It is quite plain to see that the park aims to keep its animals in the best conditions possible
however this does not distract from the moral and ethically question of Should animals should be kept in

Spain And South Korea s Food Culture
Introduction I have chosen the country Spain. I think Spain is very interesting country because it has a long history
and fervent people. Most people think about Spain as football WorldCup, a fighting bull and Flamenco. However,
Spain is very famous with its cuisine. Also known as Spain s food is very intense and flavorful. In fact, in a previous
block, I wrote an essay about compared with Spain and South Korea s food culture. Food of Spain and Korea deal in
common. Both countries have love of the spicy foods, and rice is a main ingredient. So Korean food is often popular
in Spain and also, South Koreans are also very fond of Spanish food. Actually, I recently worked in a Spanish cuisine
restaurant in Takapuna. I feel like that Spanish food has so fast cooking method and it uses many ingredients. My
friend, who is a Spanish cuisine chef, told me that Spain has a lot of food such as tapas.
Food is the history of the country. If we learn the foods of other countries, we could learn their history and traditions.
Also food is considered as a very important thing in life. Actually I am very excited about this opportunity because I
will try to get a job in a Spanish cuisine restaurant in the future. So it is time to research better how to make Spanish
food and how to develop the Spanish food recipe. Spanish food has various types of food, and I think the people live
in New Zealand will love Spanish food because there are so many people from many countries around the world.

Why Is Apollo 13 Wrong
Apollo 13 was first scheduled for March 1970 but eventually was shifted for April that year. Some spectators believe
it was because one of the oxygen tank in the service module encountering a problem during testing, and it should not
have been ignored. Only the third intended mission to the moon and it wouldn t quite make it. On April 13, 1970 two
days after Apollo 13 lifted off something went wrong. The three men, Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert, and Fred Haise
trained as any other astronaut would, but what happened was unpredictable. The three men had just finished a
broadcast to the citizens back home without many people joined watching. It was 56 hours into the mission where a
cryo stir had occurred this caused Oxygen tank 2 in the service module ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They could see the symptoms easily enough lack of power, lack of oxygen but had no clue about the underlying
disease that had befallen their ship (Bizony). Unfortunately the men only had a small triangular window to look out
onto the ship. When one of the astronauts finally saw a large clue Lovell called in that he had seen a gas blowing into
space. The substance coming out happened to be from the cryogenic tank explosion, but how did it happen? Not long
after the Apollo 13 accident, they put months of investigation in and just happened to find out where the mistake was
made. Back in 1968while the oxygen tanks were being manufactured one of them happened to be dropped, but the
tank still passed it s quality checks and was sent out. Meanwhile, three weeks before Apollo 13 there was a test run
on the cryogenic tanks and how they can carry their load. Every tank gets pre flight testing but when this particular
tank was tested it seemed to show it had a damaged fill line. Meaning it would not empty the contents as desired.
When the tank was getting pre flight tests the tanks were emptied by forcing oxygen gas into the tank and the liquid
oxygen was forced out, but while in space the tanks did not need to be emptied. Heaters were located in the tank in
order to heat the inside of it to keep the oxygen flowing and this would only be used for short periods of time. The
plan was to use these heaters to essentially boil off any excess oxygen, this would then need 8 hour of 65 volt DC
power. The thermostatically controlled switches on the heater were only made for 28 volt DC power so this led
people to believe they were damaged from that mistake. This would then cause the switches to weld shut meaning
the temperature would rise over 1000 degrees F inside the tank.

Credit Card Breach Essay
The Trump Hotel Collection, a string of luxury hotel properties tied to business magnate and now Republican
presidential candidate Donald Trump, appears to be the latest victim of a credit card breach, according to data shared
by several U.S. based banks.
Contacted regarding reports from sources at several banks who traced a pattern of fraudulent debit and credit card
charges to accounts that had all been used at Trump hotels, the company declined multiple requests for comment.
The Trump Organization just acknowledged the issue with a brief statement from Eric Trump, executive vice
president of development and acquisitions: Like virtually every other company these days, we have been alerted to
potential suspicious credit card activity and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In March, upscale hotel chainMandarin Oriental disclosed a compromise. The following month, hotel franchising
firmWhite Lodging acknowledged that, for the second time in 12 months, card processing systems at several of its
locations were breached by hackers.
It is likely that the huge number of card breaches at U.S. based organizations over the past year represents a response
by fraudsters to upcoming changes in the United States designed to make credit and debit cards more difficult and
expensive to counterfeit. Non chip cards store cardholder data on a magnetic stripe, which can be trivially copied
and re encoded onto virtually anything else with a magnetic stripe.
Magnetic stripe based cards are the primary target for hackers who have been breaking into retailers like Target and
Home Depot and installing malicious software on the cash registers: The data is quite valuable to crooks because it
can be sold to thieves who encode the information onto new plastic and go shopping at big box stores for stuff they
can easily resell for cash (think high dollar gift cards and

Government s Singularity Of Power
Incompetent Leaders:
Monarchy s singularity of power provides people with a symbolic and focused area for group loyalty and identity.
Monarchy can be beneficial in some instances, such as when decisions need to be made quickly without consulting
with a large group of people. Monarchy sometime requires strong leadership in order to get things accomplished
quickly and efficiently. In contrast to the early leaders, the late Qing emperors in the nineteenth century were weak
in the sense that they lacked the abilities to effectively control the military, which led to the unstable government. In
the summer of 1831, Empress Xiaoquancheng bore emperor Daoguang a son named Xianfeng. At age of 19 and was
a relatively young, emperor Xianfeng received the throne, which made him the 9th Emperor of the Manchu led Qing
dynasty, and the 7th Qing emperor to rule over China, from 1850 to 1861. Shortly after emperor Xianfeng was on the
throne, the first of a series of popular rebellions began that would nearly destroy the Qing dynasty. The Taiping
Rebellion broke out in Southern China. The Manchu troops that the emperor Xianfeng sent to suppress the rebellion
proved so ineffective that the rebels were able to move Northward and gained control of many cities included
Nanjing in 1853, and almost got the imperial capital of Beijing in between 1854 5 (Teng, 9). In the attempt to put an
end to the rebellion, emperor Xianfeng had to rely on other talented Chinese leaders to raise local volunteer

Pathway Of Igf-1 Pathway
The insulin/IGF 1 pathway which plays a major role in the control of lifespan and aging in animals and humans
includes a lot of genes if any gene transformed with single mutation the IGF 1 pathway can increase lifespan and
cause human longevity to remain active and youthful much longer than normal. As in different species, yeast,
nematodes and fruit flies there are genes homologous with mammalian genes that control in IGF 1 pathway and
mutation in any one of them may be affected on lifespan (Tatar et al., 2003). In the study of model organisms, it was
found that the IGF 1 pathway consists of ligands, receptors, insulin receptor substrates, phosphoinositol 3 kinase
(PI3K) system, AKT kinases, and forkhead transcriptional factors.

These pathways are more complex than invertebrate. Mutations that in GH deficiency or in growth hormone
receptors cause decreased size, lower insulin levels, increased stress resistance and extend lifespan (Bartke, 2008).
Whereas GH is mediated through IGF 1 and effect on lifespan in these mice may be mediated by this pathway.
Heterozygous deletion mutations of the IGF 1 receptor (IGF1R) gene causes a little reduction in size but a similar
phenotype of improved stress resistance and longevity in females only (Holzenberger et al., 2003). But in dogs, there
is no evidence that IGF 1 signaling regulates lifespan because dog breeds have a strong inverse correlation with body
size (Patronek et al., 1997). Derangement of the insulin receptor (INSR) gene in most tissues leads to insulin
resistance and shortened lifespan in mice (Okamoto and Accili, 2003); but homozygous deletion mutation in this
gene specific to fat cells have the extended lifespan in both sexes (Bluher et al., 2003). These results indicate that
tissue specific effects are important for these pathways. Where a knockout of the downstream signaling adapter
protein (IRS1) also resulted in increased lifespan (Selman et al., 2008).
There are several mechanisms demonstrated that the IGF 1 may affect aging with DAF 16/FOXO which stimulates
the transcription of heat shock protein genes that related to stress resistance (Murphy et al., 2003). Moreover,
FOXO3A gene can operate as a checkpoint on cell cycle

The Second Estate Formed A Chaotic State
France in 1793, was in a chaotic state. The masses of people that went against the aristocrats had enough of the old
policies. The civilians expressed their laws and policies during the early days of Republicanism . Thus, the Third
Estate embodied the enlightened principles of equality, liberty, and fraternity . The Third Estate formed a National
Convention and prevailed with radical ideologies. The Third Estate wanted these laws so desperately that they relied
on the corrupt Committee of Public Safety to generate terror upon the opposing forces in France, in order to establish
the new laws and policies. France was suffocating. The country didn t have enough funds or food to sustain the
population. So the elites stayed wealthy and fed; only by shunning the rest of France. The people had grown tired of
the mistreatment placed upon them. Simultaneously, the radical National Convention formed in 1793. The Republic,
gave common people a voice. A republican named Jaques Roux expressed his frustrations, The Republic is but an
empty illusion when the counterrevolution takes place daily because three quarters of the citizenry cannot afford the
price of basic foodstuffs and no one sheds a tear . Roux s angst is conveyed through the lack of necessities consumed
because of the revolution. The Republic need the people in order for them to gain power. Roux is not in favour with
all the other revolutionaries and loathed the greedy elites. The National Convention s main priority was

Social Structure Of France During The French Revolution Essay
The French Revolution was a time of period where social and political was a disruption in France that lasted from
1789 until 1799. This time of period affected Social Structure of France prior to the French Revolution. The factors
that caused this revolution was due to having a bad government system, weak superiority, and inequality of the
classes of people in France during the war. In this research, I will define and explain how Social Structure
contributed to the French Revolution Resentment of royal authoritarianism. The three estates that social structure
consists of are first estate which are the clergies, second estate known as the Nobleman, and third estate which are
the Bourgeoisie, peasants, and workers. The Revolution did not omit sharp distinctions among the social groups,
neither did it alter the distribution of wealth. This caused them to divide into these three groups called as estates.
The French Revolution were influenced by many factors such as the Enlightenment ideals, concepts of popular
sovereignty, and unchallengeable rights. France s costly involvement in the Revolution and excessive spending by
King Louis XVI and his predecessor had left the country on the brink of bankruptcy. Not only were the royal coffers
exhausted, but two decades of poor cereal harvests, drought, cattle disease and skyrocketing bread prices had kindled
unrest among peasants and the urban poor. (history.com).These actions played a critical role in shaping modern
nations. As

Procrastination Method
Back in dark ages, when people used to have to tune into their shows once a week, it seemed like people would get a
lot more done. If nothing was on that interested him or her, they would simply find something else to do such as yard
work or reading a book. Now days, with options such as Hulu and Netflix, it is easy to fall into the trap of binge
watching. I am one of the many people who have fell victim to binge watching. I ll always keep telling myself just
one more episode, but the next time I look at the clock, it s one a.m., and I still haven t started any of my homework.
Then, I will have to stay up even later trying to do all of the homework that I had put off doing. I usually end up
rushing to get the work done, and I am super tired ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Studies have begun to examine the use of Netflix as a procrastination method, even as a form of sleep
procrastination (Friedmann, 2016).
I used to find myself saying that I ll go to bed at ten, but by the time I get home from work it s already past nine.
Then, I ll choose watching a episode on Netflix over starting my homework, then next thing I know its already
almost midnight, and I still hadn t touched my homework. I used to just keep pushing sleep further and further back,
so I could sneak in a couple more episodes. Eventually the lack of sleep would catch up with me, and I would crash.
Since online TV was introduced, many peoples watching habits have changed. Instead of waiting until the next
episode came out a week later, people can simply just hit the next episode button and waste and entire day away.
Because of this, people have began to severely procrastinate, myself included, but since I have gotten Netflix back, I
have learned manage my time and set my priorities straight. Every once in awhile, I still do find myself binge
watching an entire day

  • 3. The Importance Of Lust In Philomeda , Tales From Ovid Lust is a strong feeling of desire for someone or something which can turn into a dangerous feeling if it is not handled in the right manner. Lust can cause one to do things that they wouldn t normally do, especially if it overwhelms one s mind set. It is a hard feeling to ignore, but ignoring it is for the best because then dangerous situations will be avoided. In the myth Tereus , Tereus is overwhelmed by lust for Philomela, which leads him to rape and abuse. In the myth Castillo and Arcas , Jupiter has a deep desire for Castillo, so he rapes her and leaves Castillo pregnant and alone. In the myth Phaethon , his lust for power causes him to put the entire earth in danger. In Tales From Ovid, by Ted Hughes, Ovid conveys that when one is consumed by a deep feeling of lust, their morals shift. In the myth Tereus , Tereus, the protagonist, is overcome by lust for his wife s sister, Philomela, which makes him do gruesome things. His wife s only desire was to see her sister. Tereus was able to fulfill her desires, but the moment he laid eyes on her, he couldn t help his feelings of lust. This deep and demented feeling of lust drove him to kidnap her, abuse her, and rape her. Ovid shows his change in morals by saying, The lust that took hold of him now combined the elemental forces of his national character and his own (Hughes page 215). Ovid then goes on to conveys how strongly he desires Philomela by using the simile, His lust was like an iron furnace first black, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Romans worshipped several deities and thus temples served as a place of high importance which was adorned with reliefs and sculptures. A typical Roman temple, for example, Temple of Augustus and Roma consisted of a cella housing the main deity and approached through a colonnaded portico (pronaos) by means of a flight of stairs. The temples were constructed with the help of concrete and oriented themselves to face east towards the rising sun and entered through the west. The column order seen in the Roman Corinthian temples was inspired by the Greek architecture. Vitruvius, the Roman architect likened the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Negative Effects Of Globalization On The Labor Market Negative Impact of Globalization on the Labor Market Kseniia Kharchevnykova ILSC Globalization is known to be found almost in all countries all over the world. The definition of globalization is quite easy to understand, it is the process of integration and co operation between different countries. So, how does globalization influence the labor market? Although there are some benefits of globalization in several areas like culture and business, it has a negative impact on the labor market. Serious consequences of trade liberalization, fast expanding of technology at factories and plants all around the world and growing gap between manufacturing producing countries and agricultural producing countries are known to be three major ways globalization affects the labor market. Consequences of trade liberalization are known to be one of the major issues that reflects negative impact on the labor market of the globalization. Unfortunately, these days only high skilled workers are able to find good jobs with high salaries, while many people lose their jobs, so unemployment in those countries began increasing rapidly. For example, research reveals that trade liberalization in Mexico in the mid to late 1980s led to increased relative wages of high skilled workers (Najdeni, 2016, para 4). In addition to this, some experts predicted that there will be great changes in the demand for unskilled workers and growth their salaries. They might have expected ... • 6. Pros And Cons Of Net Neutrality Net Neutrality Regulation Pros As previously stated, net neutrality is a complex subject and it has many layers. One issue of major of concern is that of fast lanes and the establishment of net neutrality would prevent ISPs from forming these types of connections. Simplified, a fast lane is line of service that provides faster upload and download speeds. A fast lane would allow ISPs to charge companies such as Netflix, Skype, PlayStation Plus, and other streaming services for faster connections that would allow consumers to access the services easier and faster. Proponents of net neutrality worry that the extra expenses for fast lanes could become a formidable challenge for startups and small business owners. Large corporations typically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many neutrality proponents contend that failing to develop and enforce net neutrality will lead to the ability of ISPs to block access to content. Currently, there is a freedom of choice in that ISPs are unable to obstruct certain sites or contents over others but that hasn t always been the case. There have been several cases over the last few years where ISPs have moved to block internet content. Comcast is probably the best known culprit. In the early to mid 2000 s, Comcast monitored network traffic patterns and began blocking certain websites (Ammori, 2014). The sites that were targeted were those that are known as peer to peer. Peer to peer (P2P) sites utilize technology that allow users to share data without having a centralized server. There have been instances where illegal data has been shared but it would be impossible for an ISP to determine that simply from traffic patterns. Peer to peer sites are not the only ones that have been targeted. In 2005, an ISP in North Carolina moved to block traffic that allowed users to access Vonage, an application that allows users to make telephone calls via the internet. AT T had a contract with Apple that asked AT T to block all applications that offered video chat over a cellular network. This allowed Apple s application, Facetime, to become the preferred application of iPhone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Abdduction By Joyce Carol Oates Analysis The Abduction Joyce Carol Oates has captivated the imagination of the reader within her short story The Abduction. There are many components to making a story great as well, and in his Ted Talk The Clues to a Great Story , Andrew Stanton goes into detail about the dos and don ts of story. Joyce Carol Oates uses several of the positive references from Stanton s Ted Talk throughout her short story to grab the reader s attention and envelope them into the story of a girl gone missing. As anyone can imagine it is fascinating to read a story about something we would never want to happen to ourselves. Whether it be a disappearance or a murder, the suspense intrigues the reader and triggers them to want to find out the ending. The main character in The Abduction is a seventeen year old girl with the so called maturity of someone much older, who slips up and puts herself into a dangerous situation. She is abducted. Joyce Carol Oates immediately turns the reader s attention towards the girl directly into the situation, personally placing them into the story trying to find out how to escape. In Stanton s Ted Talk he explains the concept of Don t give them four, give them two plus two. Give the reader two pieces of information separately and let them put it together on their own. Oates uses this concept from the beginning when she says, it wasn t actually right away that she understood something was wrong and he was making an effort not to talk too fast or get too excited and wasn t paying all that much attention where he was driving to lead the reader in the direction of an abduction occurring. This concept of leading the reader to the answer allows them to work for what they want in the end. Stanton also discusses how the audience needs to like the main character as well in his quote, another fundamental thing we learned was about liking your main character. from his Ted Talk. Within her story, Oates pulls on the heartstrings of the reader by making the main character a naive teenage girl attempting to get home who stumbles into the wrong situation. In the quote, she was seventeen years old...walking there, alone, her shoulders hunched against the wind...she was asked by this man from Oates s story, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Birthday Mark by Nathaniel Hawthorne The discovery of electricity opened the door to many mysteries that challenged scientists of the nineteenth century. Nathaniel Hawthorne writes of some challenges that man could run into during the exploration and application of new technology in The Birthmark. These challenges are not entirely physical but they are more so about an internal struggle within Victorian mindsets. In The Birthmark there are only three characters: Aylmer, a scientist, Georgiana, Aylmer s wife, and Aminadab, Aylmer s lab assistant. Hawthorne isolates the characters in their caste to present individual viewpoints of a tragic flaw. Each character promotes innocence but they are caught up in traditional values. Hawthorne writes of an honest but fatal mistake ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His assistant, Aminadab is a sub human in his eyes (Fairbanks, 103). Aminadab is a complete contrast to Aylmer but none of Aylmer s experiments would be possible without the help of this human machine (Hawthorne, 298). He is of great importance to Aylmer, but Hawthorne makes it clear that Aylmer thinks of himself much higher than the common man. Aminadab s importance to the story lies within the fact that he is an invisible character everywhere except the lab. His profound contrast to Aylmer s character away from Georgiana provides the reader with a clearer picture of the mad scientist as he attempts to overthrow nature. When Aylmer fails to do so, Aminadab laughs triumphantly at the tragic hero s attempt to control nature. These two characters show opposing thoughts and reactions to the murder of Aylmer s now perfect, dead bride. Hawthorne s heavy use of symbolism carries a lot of undertones that reveals irony on many levels as he wraps up the story. The most obvious is that Aylmer murders his lovely bride when he perfects Nature. Georgiana is enamored by Aylmer s experiments even though he often fails. She gains confidence and submits herself willingly but only to vicariously pursue happiness through her husband s experiment. Knowing that her birthmark makes her an object of horror to the one she loves, she finds life to be a burden and is willing to risk her own life for both of their happiness (Hawthorne 292). ... • 10. The Problem Of Social Psychology Social psychology is the study of how people think, feel, and act as a result of being present among others. At times, a direct contact is not required to fully influence a person. The imagined or implied presence of others is sufficient to carry out a full effect on another person. Examples to portray how the impact of others can have an authority over the way we function socially can be found almost anywhere around us. The media is filled with many examples from recent headlines that may offer an illustration of this phenomenon. In recent news, the National Public Radio (NPR), a non profit membership media organization, aired an interview discussing Syria s bloody civil war. With more than four million people who have fled the country thus far, it has easily been named one of the worst refugee situations in history. Millions more have also been displaced within Syria. Although we rarely hear from the people inside, NPR was able to air an interview it conducted with one of the citizens who lives in the broken country. Saeed al Batal, a photographer and filmmaker who did not use his real name for security reasons, reveals how horrific the experiences currently are in Syria. In this paper, the transcript of the interview will be used portray how, even when situations are clearly appalling and catastrophic, the presence of others effects people s contributions and willingness to help. Book Of Jeremiah Research Paper However, to embrace the exiles from Judah in their circumstances and reflect on the message of God spoken through the Prophet Jeremiah found in 29:10 14 one must know the circumstances that led up to the Babylonian destruction of Judah and the oppression of the kingdom s people as exiles. One must know the destruction before one may see the grace of God bestowed upon the people in a message of renewal, restoration and salvation. Judah, the southern kingdom, came under threat from the Babylonians during the time of Jeremiah the Prophet which was from 628 until 586 B.C.E. Egypt had aided Judah during the first threat in 588 B.C.E. and Judah did not fall. However, during the second attack on Judah the monarchs were not able to defend Judah and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In chapter 29, one hears Jeremiah say to accept servitude to the Babylonians. The Judeans have come under punishment from God for their sins. They have received the punishment due to them according to God and their lives it seems at this point are at the hands of their enemies the Babylonians even though their fate is in God s hands. Jeremiah continues to speak out prophetically fighting against those who are false prophets who are intent on telling the people warm and fuzzy lies to cover up and deny the brokenness that has caused them to be in exile. God has spoken to Jeremiah of why Judah must be in exile, why Judah must come to terms with what has happened to them. Jeremiah knows God wants Judah to turn and repent for turning away from God but the people do not listen to Jeremiah. When the people finally listen to Jeremiah they are already in exile in Babylonia. Jeremiah must send letters to proclaim God s Word to them. Jeremiah was one of those who were left behind in Judah. Jeremiah was left behind seeing the destruction of Jeremiah s homeland first hand. Jeremiah has been deemed the weeping prophet because of Jeremiah s deep care and love for the people of Judah and for God. Jeremiah feels not only the grief God experiences for having to destroy the people but Jeremiah feels the grief of the people being destroyed. Jeremiah weeps in chapter 9 because Jeremiah knows what is coming. But on the other hand, Jeremiah wanted to see the truth of God s reality come to fruition because Jeremiah knew of God s great love for God s people. • 15. Black And White By Lila Quintero Weaver We are all born equal is a concept that was not widely known in Souther America during the 1960s. Some accepted the multitude of races while many did not. In Darkroom: a Memoir in Black White by Lila Quintero Weaver she depicts from the eyes of an outsider of what truly happened during this trying time between races. Weaver and her family had no idea of the history that was about to be made when they arrived back in the United States. While in Argentina her family was seen as different they were not treated as poorly as the blacks in America. Throughout the novel Weaver chooses to use black and white images to depict how she saw the world in the time during the Civil Rights movement for many reasons but some that stand out was the lack of perspective, the choice of racism based on skin color, and because of what she grew up loving, her fathers pictures. By the time Weaver and her family had arrived slavery was a thing of the past but the ideas of the social standards of blacks had still not left the minds of white southern Americans. Children are not born racist and never will be the, selfishness of the parents and their beliefs is what causes the outrageous comments and actions to continue between generations. Blacks being forced to sit in the back at movies (Weaver 72), Blacks refusing to join in on White s affairs even when asked (Weaver 74 75), not being allowed to dine together (Weaver 106), and vulgar language that should never be repeated are just a few ... It serves the role as the informative arm of democracy, a vital function when the government depends upon public participation. This informative role gives the news media tremendous power, but can very often be negatively impacted by ulterior profit and political motives. Different Network s portray the same story in different lights based upon their respective political leanings to garner ratings and revenue. The impact of this ambiguity and manipulation of the truth on different segments of the American public is profound, specifically in the news media s usage of racial stereotypes and their subsequent adoption by the private consumers of this media. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the times of slavery and later Jim Crow, the impact of racism on African Americans was clearly seen, with generational bondage and segregation respectively. In today s day and age, the impact of negative racial stereotypes on African Americans are no longer enumerated in law, but still just as significant. One of the most important racial determinants of socioeconomic standing has been the continuation of a system of pseudo segregation that keeps black populations separate from white populations, (Williams, 177). Concepts such as ghettoization and redlining represent holdovers from the former status quo of segregation that have been supported and justified by both personal and news stereotyping. Blacks being forced, through economic and educational disadvantage, to live in a certain area or being prevented from moving into specific neighborhoods cause self perpetuating cycles of inequality that keep blacks separate and unequal from their white counterparts. This can be clearly seen in the strong relationship that exists between a school being predominantly black and concentrated poverty, and the fact that an intensely segregated African America/and or Latino school is 14 times more likely to be a high poverty school than one that is less than 10% black or Latino, (Williams, 179). Gothic Elements consist of dark atmospheres, the supernatural, uncanny figures, damsel in distress, physiological breakdown, and many other elements. Elements of gothic literature are usually not used in a literal sense; authors usually use metaphors to get the aspect of gothic literature across to the audience. Elements of gothic literature are presented throughout the book Turn of the Screw, by Henry James, and the film The Others , by Alejandro Amenábar. In The Turn of the Screw, the governess plays the role by displaying her ongoing battle with the ghosts over the safety of the children. Within her first couple of days at the house, she is already seeing the ghosts of the old governess, Miss Jessel and the butler, Peter Quint. In the book, the governess constantly tells about her concern that the children are in danger. In the book, James writes, Dear little Miles, dear little Miles, if you knew how I want to help you! It s only that, it s nothing but that, and I d rather die than give you a pain or do you a wrong ; this shows the governesses helpless obsession with trying to keep the children safe (108). In this conversation with Miles, the governess is trying to get him to tell her Quint blew out the candles but Miles replies that it was him (James 108). What most people don t realize is that the life of these whales is not as great as it may seem. There is much evidence that proves captive life will never be adequate. The longest a captive born Orca has very lived is twenty five years (Rose, 3). The average life expectancy is six years in captivity. Eighty six percent of 135+ whales in captivity since 1961 are now dead (KIWE, 3). SeaWorld, one of the most famous marine parks exhibiting Orca whales, has experienced approximately one Orca death a year since beginning their breeding program. It is reasonable and logical to expect at least a third of all captive whales to still be alive today considering the number of males and females, years since the first Orca entered captivity, and life expectancies in the wild, but only twenty percent is still living. The most parsimonious explanation for this failure to show improved survivorship, despite the effort by Oceanaria to advance husbandry techniques in the past forty five years, is that Orcas are inherently unsuited to confinement (Rose, 3). Not only are Orcas far too intelligent to be held captive, but also captivity does not meet their familial and social needs. In the wild, Orcas have complex familial and social relationships with those in their pods that they are not able to sustain in captivity due to being placed in a pool with and artificial family. Orcas typically spend their entire lives with their families unless taken away (Cronin, 2). In captivity, the young are separated from their mothers. For so many, hope is the light at the end of the tunnel, in the moments when it is hard to get back up it is often this ambiguous term that helps them get up. Of course, all words take on several meanings, and there are always different ways someone can interpret a word. However, according to the Oxford Online Dictionary hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen (Oxford Dictionaries). Although both poems take their own approach to the word hope and do not share the same structure, there are some consistencies between each author s interpretation. Both the poems by Sophia White and Emily Dickinson are centered around hope, however, the interpretations are very different, using symbols, metaphors and the structure of the poem to get their points across. The poem Hope is the thing with feathers by Emily Dickinson begins its first two lines with a metaphor. That perches in the soul And sings the tune without the words (2 3). These opening lines bring us into the rest of the poem where the author is describing the word hope through the metaphor of a bird. Dickinson continues to use metaphors throughout the poem. It was bold in that it was a very controversial way of dealing with the problem. No rational human being would propose cannibalism as a solution to homelessness, but it s use is effective as a voice that stands out and causes people to think about what he is dealing with. By suggesting cannibalism, Swift draws on one of the most wide spread taboos in the world to repulse his audience into realizing that homelessness was a serious problem. Swift was tired of hearing ideas proposed to deals with the poor, in his opinion there was too much talk and not enough action: But as to myself, having been wearied out for many years of offering vain, idle, visionary thoughts, and at length utterly despairing of success, I fortunately fell upon this proposal, which, as it is wholly new, so it hath something solid and real, of no expense and little trouble (Swift,par.31) By stirring up such strong reactions to it, Swift cause people to really think about the problem of homelessness and ways to help deal with the problem. Mujō became an idea because Buddha taught that because all things within our lives and our world are constantly changing, it s important to remember that nothing is permanent. Kamo no Chōmei s writing presents a variety of elements related to Mappō, which, through the concept of mujō, shows the impermanence of nature as well as humanity fading into the vastness of nothingness. Through the traditions of simplicity, isolation, and religion, specifically Buddhism and the Lotus Sutra, Hōjōki shows this disastrous fleeting through a calm, poetic, narrative voice. This paper will argue that themes of nature are connected to the idea of the subjective self, through impermanence, and studies how Chōmei s worldview affects his perspective on nature and the natural world. Immediately, Kamo introduces Hōjōki with a smooth, pessimistic, poetic tone, describing the impermanence of foam floating in a river pool. This gives the reader an abrupt sense of sadness which is further produced through a direct ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1966, the early years of this investigation, Harriet Burge, a renowned industry leader in fungal contamination, gave a risk assessment to review the indoor contaminations of mold. What did they incorporate? Burge s model examined both the allergic and poisonous characteristics related to mold. During the study of mycotoxins, Burge s model showed that the majority of mold growth has not developed extensively enough to produce harmful health effects. In the years that followed, many experts challenged that assessment on numerous fronts. The recent anecdotal, medical and analytical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nevertheless, despite an almost obvious connection, most researchers believe that occupants who spend time in water damaged environments would encounter the poison in too small of an amount to cause symptoms. We do not have research to suggest that anyone has ever been exposed to enough mycotoxin to experience the symptoms. Dave Gallup, chairperson at EMLab, conducted a study where he created a formula to look at the dose needed to cause health effect. In it, he calculated that a person would to live in a hugely water damaged structure for more than 1,000 days before they might reach a level that may cause health issues. Despite the fact that these scientific calculations made sense and other researchers had made similar evaluations, there were still occupants left sickened by water damaged buildings. Nevertheless, as they studied the concepts from the allied fields more closely, they created a better model. Filipino People Power Revolution The Filipino People S Power Revolution Essay, Research Paper The Filipino People s Power Revolution The revolution of the Philippines is a story about an economically poor government; a poverty stricken nation; and a corrupt dictators nearly bloodless ousting. The revolution is key in understanding the current state of the nation, as well as exhibiting factors that have led to the countries current economical state. While the events leading up to the revolution are by no means solely responsible for the poverty of the Philippines, the nation is still recovering from the effects of the incidents preceding the revolution. In 1984 the economy had decreased nearly 7% since the previous year, and it lost another 3.8% the following year. People in the upper class who were involved in banking and other financially alert professions quickly saw the disturbing fate of their economy and vocally protested Marcos s dictatorship. Although the people living in a rural area were not as aware of the economic problems as those living in a the metropolitan area, they were not immune from the effects of the devaluation of the Filipino currency. Over time the people realized that Marcos s dictatorship was destroying their economy, and deiced that they needed a change. Marcos spontaneously choose to hold a new election in the middle of his term, hoping that it would restore people s faith in his government. His competition, Corazon Aquino, widow of Benigno Aquino, fought for a fair election. • 36. Upper Three Forks In Painted Woods Case Study The upper Three Forks in Painted Woods has shown poor oil production and low oil saturation compared to the surrounding acreage. Previous assessments suggested that the primary cause for this anomaly was due to the Pronghorn acting as a barrier for primary migration from the lower Bakken shale into the upper Three Forks. Current assessment indicates that, while the Pronghorn is a tight and fine grained rock, it is not entirely impermeable. The Pronghorn is believed to only partially inhibit primary migration, and is not the primary factor for the poor performance across Painted Woods. The lower Bakken shale thins drastically across the Painted Woods region. This thinning greatly reduces the amount of hydrocarbons generated across the region. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... PRONGHORN AS A PRIMARY MIGRATION BARRIER Based off of MICP data collected from core (Figure 19), the Pronghorn siltstone has a permeability on par with the upper and lower Bakken shales. The lack of permeability is supported by lithological analysis indicating a clay content of up to 50 % (Figure 20) across the Painted Woods asset. The low permeability and high clay content shows that the Pronghorn does have the potential to occlude primary migration of hydrocarbons from the lower Bakken shale into the underlying upper Three Forks. However, this only has a minimal effect on the overall potential of the upper Three Forks as a whole. Saturation trends in the Pronghorn and the upper Three Forks (Figure 21), indicates that hydrocarbons are being occluded from the lower Bakken into the Three Forks, but not entirely. Oil saturation gradually decreases from the top of the Pronghorn to the base indicating less hydrocarbons are being pushed into the upper Three Forks. However, the oil saturation never reach 0% and only decreases to approximately 60 to 70 % water saturation. The oil saturation then gradually increases from the top of the Three Forks to the top of the first claystone. This trend is observed throughout all the wells within Painted Woods, independent to the thickness of the Pronghorn. Even though there is less volume of generated lower Bakken hydrocarbons, oil is still able to be transmitted through the Pronghorn across Painted Woods. However, the quantities transmitted are likely less compared to other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Zoos cannot provide them with enough space, therefore, they cannot run around so as to grow up freely. On the other hand, some people argue that animals should be kept in zoos. Most people think about Spain as football WorldCup, a fighting bull and Flamenco. However, Spain is very famous with its cuisine. Also known as Spain s food is very intense and flavorful. In fact, in a previous block, I wrote an essay about compared with Spain and South Korea s food culture. Food of Spain and Korea deal in common. Both countries have love of the spicy foods, and rice is a main ingredient. So Korean food is often popular in Spain and also, South Koreans are also very fond of Spanish food. Actually, I recently worked in a Spanish cuisine restaurant in Takapuna. I feel like that Spanish food has so fast cooking method and it uses many ingredients. My friend, who is a Spanish cuisine chef, told me that Spain has a lot of food such as tapas. Food is the history of the country. If we learn the foods of other countries, we could learn their history and traditions. Also food is considered as a very important thing in life. Actually I am very excited about this opportunity because I will try to get a job in a Spanish cuisine restaurant in the future. So it is time to research better how to make Spanish food and how to develop the Spanish food recipe. Unfortunately the men only had a small triangular window to look out onto the ship. When one of the astronauts finally saw a large clue Lovell called in that he had seen a gas blowing into space. The substance coming out happened to be from the cryogenic tank explosion, but how did it happen? Not long after the Apollo 13 accident, they put months of investigation in and just happened to find out where the mistake was made. Back in 1968while the oxygen tanks were being manufactured one of them happened to be dropped, but the tank still passed it s quality checks and was sent out. Meanwhile, three weeks before Apollo 13 there was a test run on the cryogenic tanks and how they can carry their load. Every tank gets pre flight testing but when this particular tank was tested it seemed to show it had a damaged fill line. Meaning it would not empty the contents as desired. When the tank was getting pre flight tests the tanks were emptied by forcing oxygen gas into the tank and the liquid oxygen was forced out, but while in space the tanks did not need to be emptied. Heaters were located in the tank in order to heat the inside of it to keep the oxygen flowing and this would only be used for short periods of time. The plan was to use these heaters to essentially boil off any excess oxygen, this would then need 8 hour of 65 volt DC power. The thermostatically controlled switches on the heater were only made for 28 volt DC power so this led people to believe they were damaged from that mistake. This would then cause the switches to weld shut meaning the temperature would rise over 1000 degrees F inside the tank. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Monarchy can be beneficial in some instances, such as when decisions need to be made quickly without consulting with a large group of people. Monarchy sometime requires strong leadership in order to get things accomplished quickly and efficiently. In contrast to the early leaders, the late Qing emperors in the nineteenth century were weak in the sense that they lacked the abilities to effectively control the military, which led to the unstable government. In the summer of 1831, Empress Xiaoquancheng bore emperor Daoguang a son named Xianfeng. At age of 19 and was a relatively young, emperor Xianfeng received the throne, which made him the 9th Emperor of the Manchu led Qing dynasty, and the 7th Qing emperor to rule over China, from 1850 to 1861. Shortly after emperor Xianfeng was on the throne, the first of a series of popular rebellions began that would nearly destroy the Qing dynasty. The Taiping Rebellion broke out in Southern China. The Manchu troops that the emperor Xianfeng sent to suppress the rebellion proved so ineffective that the rebels were able to move Northward and gained control of many cities included Nanjing in 1853, and almost got the imperial capital of Beijing in between 1854 5 (Teng, 9). As in different species, yeast, nematodes and fruit flies there are genes homologous with mammalian genes that control in IGF 1 pathway and mutation in any one of them may be affected on lifespan (Tatar et al., 2003). Much of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These pathways are more complex than invertebrate. Mutations that in GH deficiency or in growth hormone receptors cause decreased size, lower insulin levels, increased stress resistance and extend lifespan (Bartke, 2008). Whereas GH is mediated through IGF 1 and effect on lifespan in these mice may be mediated by this pathway. Heterozygous deletion mutations of the IGF 1 receptor (IGF1R) gene causes a little reduction in size but a similar phenotype of improved stress resistance and longevity in females only (Holzenberger et al., 2003). But in dogs, there is no evidence that IGF 1 signaling regulates lifespan because dog breeds have a strong inverse correlation with body size (Patronek et al., 1997). Derangement of the insulin receptor (INSR) gene in most tissues leads to insulin resistance and shortened lifespan in mice (Okamoto and Accili, 2003); but homozygous deletion mutation in this gene specific to fat cells have the extended lifespan in both sexes (Bluher et al., 2003). These results indicate that tissue specific effects are important for these pathways. Where a knockout of the downstream signaling adapter protein (IRS1) also resulted in increased lifespan (Selman et al., 2008). There are several mechanisms demonstrated that the IGF 1 may affect aging with DAF 16/FOXO which stimulates the transcription of heat shock protein genes that related to stress resistance (Murphy et al., 2003).
