Though my copy of The Dharma Bums now resembles more a grade school child s workbook with
notes and underlines contained on almost every page, there are a few quotations still stand out in my
mind even weeks after reading. The first is Ray s response to Japhy who is partaking in yabyum and
asks Ray to join. I d also gone through an entire year of celibacy based on my feeling that lust was the
direct cause of birth which was the direct cause of suffering and death and I had really no lie come to a
point where I regarded lust as offensive and even cruel. Pretty girls make graves, was my saying (29).
I found this passage not only to be of extreme importance for it showed Ray s dedication to Buddhism,
but also very interesting and quite noble. In contrast to the promiscuous sexual behavior that is often
glorified during the Beat generation (whether straight or gay) and even in some of Kerouac s novels
(which, of course, now I am going to look at more closely to see if I may have been mistaken in my
interpretation of his earlier works), Ray s character who can be linked to Kerouac s literary voice, is
really making the statement that these sexual desires are wrong. I just found this quote to stimulate a

Food Inc. Portrayal of Monsanto
In 2009 a movie by the name of Food Inc. was released that challenged the production of food we eat.
The movie examines everything from the science of seeds all the way through the consumption of the
food, the food s often negative effects on the body. The movie ends with the line You can change the
world with every bite . This quote embodies the heart behind movie that change starts with the
individual, and how they make food choices. This sort of change that Food Inc. invokes implies that
top down change that the consumer can bring about change to the seed level. Food Inc. challenges the
processes that allow companies like Monsanto to feed the world. We must understand how media like
Food Inc. effects this mission to feed the world by examining the movie, the history of Monsanto as a
company, and looking at the response from both sides to these challenges made in the public square to
better combat and address issues brought forth.
While inspirational to some Food Inc. also experienced backlash from critics. To the observer Food
Inc. seems very one sided, but it mentions multiple times that it extended offers to be interviewed to
Smithfield, Monsanto, Perdue and Tyson companies (sanfran). These were among the named

flicker and dim. Windows turn off, second by second. The window cleaning personnel raise
themselves up on their scaffolds to start their nightly work; cleaning each window of Willis Tower,

I was excited I got my internet back after two weeks of doing enormous amounts of work on the
laptops at school; and they were not easy to type on. It was not much of a surprise that I would think
of that first. I do play my games every day, but I got cold, so I went to get some hot cocoa from the
kitchen. I walked to the kitchen, and saw a bowl with buttered popcorn filled halfway to the top. I
picked up a hot chocolate mix packet labeled Swiss Miss Open here. I ripped it open and some coffee

When I started working at Matrix, my goal was to learn the software as quickly as possible. I think my
