Essay about Internet Terrorism
Internet Security Holes and Cyberterrorism
Abstract: This paper investigates and substantiates the potential for hackers to cause damage in the
physical world. A fictional case study is provided along with an analysis of past, present, and future
technological threats. The combination of a historic apathy towards computer security and an
increased reliance on technology may soon lead to a real world cybercatastrophe .
I first learned about computer hacking from an article featured in the New York Timesmagazine
several years ago. It described the life of members of a hacking group known as L0pht. They were
neither benign nor malicious; they would simply look for holes in software products and post the
results on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the anniversary of the release of Windows 2004, a terrorist hacking group known as Horizon
launched a full scale assault on the city of Seattle. At exactly 6:30 P.M., the height of rush hour,
chaos was unleashed on the city. In many instances, disaster could not be avoided simply because
no physical system was in place to alleviate computer malfunction. Horizon successfully altered the
destinations of several trains, causing them to collide, killing hundreds in the process. Brake
systems on new model cars were triggered, causing multi car accidents on major highways.
Automated devices in hospitals ceased working altogether, leaving many patients without critical
life support. As a final touch, Horizon diverted several airplanes to the corporate headquarters of
Microsoft in nearby Redmond, Washington, burning the complex to the ground with a multitude of
personnel still inside. Rescue efforts were initiated immediately, but the severity of the attacks left
the dead numbering in the thousands.
Over the course of the next few weeks, Microsoft employees were able to recreate the crime and
track down the flaw. In the meantime, fears of a second attack crippled life across America. Public
transportation, airports, and most anything that relied on Microsoft run

Puritans Impact On American Society
The name, American Society, represents a society that many believed was shaped by America
itself. However, Puritanism shaped America s ethical and political views, and the Great Awaken
shaped the people s belief on religious freedom in the nation. Therefore, these events did not only
shape the time prior to the Civil War, but shaped America for times to come. Puritans did a variety
of things for America, other than make people of this age think they re some Pharisees or some
weird freaks over religion. They actually helped in contributing Americans devotion to the practice
of education. Puritans had a zeal for education and that zeal was founded in their origins. In the
view of the Puritans, the Biblewas their central to Christian education. They desired education and
enlightenment for everyone, especially the common people. They wanted people to be able to
read and understand the Bible for themselves in order perspire in the wondrous religion they call
their life. Reading of the Bible was necessary to living a devoted life to God. The education of
the next generation was important to further purify the church and perfect social living in order to
enter the gates of heaven. This view goes back to Martin Luther s idea, who stated, Above all, the
foremost reading for everybody, both in the universities and in the schools, should be Holy
Scripture... I would advise no one to send his child where the Holy Scriptures are not supreme.
Once the Puritans ventured to the

ABSTRACT
In this experiment, the techniques column and thin layer chromatography was used to separate and
determine the purity of the colored components of siling labuyo and malunggay leaves. The results
obtained relied on differential solubilities and adsorptivities of the components to be separated with
respect to the mobile and stationary phases, wherein the stationary phase/s are silica gel and silica
gel G, while the mobile phase/s are the extracts on different solvent system.

A. Sample Used
Sample Used: Siling Labuyo (Capsicum frutesceus)
B. Procedure 1. Column Chromatography The pigments of the red siling labuyo were extracted
using DCM hexane (1:1). Portions of the extracts were set a side for Thin Layer Chromatography.
In preparing the column chromatography set up, the column was plugged with cotton and
uniformly packed with silica gel up to the intended part of the dropping pipette. 0.5 mL of the
extract was then placed on top of the column using a pipette. The pigment mixture was eluted
using 10 mL of DCM hexane (1:1) and afterwards introduced in portions. The members were
instructed not to allow the column to run dry. The colorless eluates were discarded while the
colored eluates were collected in separate test tubes. The number of drops of the eluate collected in
each test tube was noted.
Figure 1. Column Chromatography Set up
2. Thin Layer Chromatography In the Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), the eluates were
applied on a 5 cm x 8 cm per coated TLC plate by spotting 10 times. The member performing the
application allowed each spot to dry before applying the next and made sure the spots are small as
possible. Meanwhile, another member prepared the developing chamber by placing an
approximate amount of the solvent system, DCM hexane (1:1). The inner wall of the chamber
with filter paper was lined, covered with a watch glass, and was then allowed to

Slavery And The American Revolution
Slavery has been a key issue in American history since the first settlers settled here in 1607.
Historians such as Vincent J Rosivach writes that when the issue of slavery is mentioned the first
thing people think about is the slavery model of the deep south, the cotton kingdom. Rosivach
writes that there were many different slave models such as the northern American colonies and 4th
century Athens. Rosivach and many other historians agree that the way slaverywas done in the north
was totally different from the south. Slaves have had an important role particularly in the northern
American colonies helping them early establish themselves first as a region then as a country.
Historians have argued that America was built on the backs of... Show more content on

In the north owners usually owned only one or two slaves. Historians have figured that these
owners could have done without them if necessary. Owning slaves was less a commitment than
a response to labor needs. That is why we see blacks working in their owners shops. Historians
like Shane white argue that slaves now had an advantage over slaves in any other area, because
these slaves were picking up trades that could help in their future journey. Rosivach on page 552
talks about how slaves helped the economy. White talked about the trades they picked up and
now Rosivach expands on that. Since most slave owners only owned a few slaves the owner s
main priority was to make ends meet for his family. Rosivach talks about how slaves could run
the owner s shops if the owners had to leave for a short period of time. Slaves also helped speed
up production. With two people working it helped the owner make more money. They were not
running large scaled operations but simple community ran business. Rosivach also states that
even if someone did not own a slave in the north they could produce the same amount of
production as a slave and his owner. Rosivach is making the claim that slaves are expendable and
not a dire need as they were in the south. Rosivach and White both talk about the type of work
slaves did in the north. Along with that work came the person they worked for. During this time

Analysis Of Simone De Beauvoir s The Second Sex
The first text we explore in this step is Bonaventure s On Seeing God in his Image . Bonaventure
shows us that through inward reflection we can see God. God can then lead us to God s two most
important laws, and the best ways for us to live in community with others; by loving God, and our
neighbors. The next text is from the 2nd Vatican Council called Pastoral Constitution, which
focused on bringing the church into modern times. This text focuses on the importance of helping
those being marginalized, those who are on the brink of society, and what is the best way that the
Church as a community can fight to protect them. The following text comes from Simone de
Beauvoir called The Second Sex, which discusses the ideas of the feminist... Show more content on

One major link includes the fight between an oppressed group and their persecutors. Whether it s
the proletariat and the bourgeois in The Communist Manifesto, or the inequality of genders in
The Second Sex, or the flight of the African Americans in the Letter from Birmingham Jail . In
all of these texts we are shown how easy it is for one group to abuse their power and create
unfair rules and regulations only imposed on the more inferior members of society. Each group
of oppressor thrives off of alienating, and subjugating their inferiors. So it seems the theme of
solidarity is the only way to combat this linkage of oppression. In all of the texts we are shown
that through solidarity comes freedom. We see in Bonaventure, and Vatican Council II that all God
wants for God s people is inclusion, and to fight for the rights of the others of the world. In the
more secular texts from King, de Beauvoir, and Marx and Engels, we see the same ideas. The only
way to fight prejudice is to unite the people of either side of the problem, and have them work
together to make the whole of society a more inclusive place. By uniting together to fight
oppression we overcome the trivialities that separate seemingly opposing groups. The next theme
contingent throughout the step is the benefits of community. This is similar to the inclusiveness
that comes from solidarity, but through community we can prevent oppression from happening

The Vital Importance of Homework
Every prosperous person has attained their goals via this privileged activity which has been
practised for generations. Homework is beneficial for children of all ages; to learn new strategies
and theories. All schools give homework to enrich their students learning and to prepare them for
their soon to be successful futures. Vehemently, homeworkis an essential requirement for children,
adolescents or even adults! Generally speaking, according to research (Cooper, Robinson Patall,
2006), studies are showing us that academic achievement is improved in children who partake in
some after school work at home. Homework familiarises new concepts and encourages students to
strive for their highest. It gives them a sense of responsibility as they need to organise their time
to fit all activities. In that way homework would only be a minor, every day routine. If students
want to have a privileged lifestyle, they need to do their homework. Having helpful homework
here, is the key to victory, inviting us through a door to various opportunities in life! The journey of
a thousand miles begins with one step.
Essentially, homework is a beneficial component of life. Without it, there wouldn t be any jobs
around as we wouldn t be intelligent enough to pass the exams and courses needed to fill
positions. Some people may be innately gifted, but the aces who are hungry to succeed, will excel
higher. Homework is the fruit of education; we learn the methods at school and we revise and

Voiceover Techniques In Hushpuppy
In the final scene of the film, an extreme close up is used to build drama and shows that
something emotional will happen between Hushpuppy and her father, Wink. Moments after an
over the shoulder shot is used from behind Hushpuppy and Wink to show how each character
views the situation. Hushpuppy sees the situation as an opportunity to become stronger, whereas
Wink views it as a time to say goodbye. The extreme long shot used to compare the size between
Hushpuppy and the Aurochs reveals Hushpuppy s strong side and shows how brave and fearless
she has become. The voiceover technique is often used throughout the film to provide more
meaning to the visuals, but its main purpose is to show how Hushpuppy views the world and her

Media Violence And Its Effects
Media violence exposure has been investigated as a risk factor for aggression behavior for years.
The impact of exposure to violence in the media the long term development and short term
development of aggressive behavior has been documented. Aggression is caused by several factors,
of which media violenceis one. Research investigating the effects of media violence in conjunction
with other predictors of aggressionsuch as; environmental factors and dysfunction within the
family household, is needed in order to better understand its contribution to aggressive behavior.
Furthermore, the debate of whether or not how media violence leads to aggression has received
renewed attention following tragic events; Sandy Hook, Umpqua Community College in
Kosenburg, Oregon, 2012 Aurora shooting, traumatic news coverage, a 8 year old boy
intentionally shot and killed elderly caregiver and countless other events; all of these casualties
were caused by media violence. Media violence can be a murder simulator; by teaching and guiding
how to commit aggressive and violent crimes. Aggression is usually defined by behavioral
scientists as behavior that is intended to harm another person. Common forms of aggression are
physical (for example, punching), verbal (for example, saying or writing hurtful things to another
person), and relational (for example, intentionally and publicly not inviting someone to a social
function to harm their social relationships). Violence usually is

Identity, Hegemony, And Played Through The Dynamics Of...
McIntosh (2009) offers an intriguing case study, where the concepts of personhood, hegemony,
and fractal recursivity are intertwined and played through the dynamics of Swahili Giriama
bordered ethnoreligious interactions. The Giriama geographical, social, religious, and linguistic
subordination to the Swahili Muslims is the framework to negotiate, resist or submit to the
hegemonic Swahili Islam. First, through personhood, the Giriama frame their religious actions
and relations with the Swahilis. Their actions are collective and caused by external powers,
rather than individualistically bounded and rational actors as the Swahilis. How Arabic in this
case is perceived amplify this notion, as Swahilis take it to be accessible via learning and
memorizing, and Giriama take it to be accessible through spirit possession by Muslim spirits.
This reinforces their submission and lose of identity by adopting Arabic (p. 255). Second,
hegemony plays a significant role in shaping how power is lived and replicated in daily life, to be
accepted or rejected by the society. Therefore, Giriama attitude towards Swahili Muslims is
exhibited in their refusal to submit to Islam and instead cherish their traditionalism, yet they
oftentimes acknowledge Islam s power and the potency of Arabic through divination and spirit
possession. Third, fractal recursivity is shown through how the Giriama s evident urbanity is
opposed to them living on the margins of the city thus closer to the jungle and their

The Pros And Cons Of Anti-Semitism
A widely spoken about topic in America is Isms, they can be described as ways to discriminate
practices, cultures, and groups of people; moreover, there are lsists upon lists of isms in today s
society being used to discriminate. Significant oppressions in today s society are racism and
transphobia, and a similar case would be the discrimination of Jews. Represented as anti Semitism,
this can be defined as, Hostility toward or discrimination against Jews as a religious, ethnic, or
racial group ( Anti Semitism ).
Although Adolf Hitler s reign of terror had a significant part in defining anti Semitism, this dates as
far back to the ancient Roman times. In 70 AD the dawn of anti Semitism was exhibited when,
Roman authorities destroyed the Jewish temple in Jerusalem and forced Jews to leave Palestine (
The Holocaust ). Not only were Jews discriminated against prior in World War II and the
Holocaust, today, it is said that, Israeli Jews all but universally say anti Semitism is at least
somewhat common around the world today, including nearly two thirds who say it is very
common. ( Anti Semitism and discrimination ).
Israeli Jews have a strong opinion that, roughly three quarters say anti Semitism is not only
common but on the rise globally, while virtually no Israeli Jews say it is decreasing (Anti Semitism
and discrimination); On the other hand, Americans have an opposing view of the incline of anti
Semitism. Based on a HuffPost/YouGov survey, Thirty five percent of

Lewis Carroll s Major Accomplishments

You ve heard of Alice in Wonderland, the classic fictional adventure, but, the author behind the

Lewis Carroll was a writer, photographer, mathematician, logician, and anglican deacon. He is
most known for his skill in fantasy and word play. Many societies today are dedicated to the
enjoyment and promotion of his life and he remains one of the most well known writers in the

He also sent a few of his works to other magazines, which gave him minor success. These other
magazines included The Comic Times, The Train, as well as less known magazines such as the

Carroll did once state in writing that he would definitely enjoy doing more serious and
publicable works in the future. The first piece of work that Carroll had published was one that
was most notoriously responsible for his fame. It was titled Solitude. Apart from all his other
writings, the particular works that made Carroll such a well known author are the classic Alice in
Wonderland stories. It is said that Carroll based Alice off of Alice Liddell, who was the daughter of
Carroll s friend at the time. When Lewis told Alice the beginning of the story, she insisted that he
write them down and publish them. Carroll had many books made featuring Alice. Some examples
include Through the Looking Glass, Alice s Adventures in Wonderland, and Through the Looking

Determinism in Nella Larsen’s Quicksand Essay
Determinism in Nella Larsen s Quicksand
During the Harlem Renaissance, many literary works concentrated on celebrating African American
heritage. However, many other writers also began concentrating on the darker theme of naturalism.
Nella Larsen s Quicksand illustrates many elements of this movement. These include a biological
determinism, where man is conceived of as controlled by his primitive animal instincts and a
sociological determinism, whereby the weak are destroyed and the strong survive in a world of
struggle and chance. Helga Crane, Larsen s protagonist in Quicksand, illustrates the elements of
both biological and sociological determinism in her inability to suppress her natural animal instinct
to flee uncomfortable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clearly, Helga is internally struggling with her sexual desire for Dr. Anderson by disguising it with
anger towards him. However, instead of confronting these emotions, Helga again allows her natural
instinct of flight to take over in order to deal with the situation.
Helga also illustrates her inability to control the instinct of flight in Copenhagen. During her stay,
she is incited to make an impression and to inflame attention and admiration (74). Helga s desire to
attract attention is overshadowed by her internal struggle with her natural instincts. In Copenhagen
she instinctively...wanted to combat this searching into one thing which, here, surrounded by all
other things which for so long she has so positively wanted, made her a little afraid. Started vague
premonitions (79). Helga is searching for happiness but she intuitively knows from her
premonitions that her search is futile because of her inability to remain in a place that becomes
uncomfortable.
By the time Helga s desire to leave Alabama is evident, it is clear that Helga s natural instinct to
constantly escape the reality of her life has become her downfall. This time, she has responsibility
towards her children who she wanted not to leave if that were possible (135). Perhaps, when she
began to have her fifth child , Helga decides to stay in Alabama, thereby fighting the inner demons
that have controlled her life (135).

Fat Sick And Nearly Dead Analysis
Hayden Yost Dr. Burns Eng 101 Nov. 15th, 2017 Is Juice Fasting Alone Enough for College
Students? Juicing has been praised as a practice capable of helping with weight loss and serving
as a first step towards a healthier lifestyle many have yet to try, but while many claims center on
the short term changes caused by the juice fast, fewer take note of the long term effects. To
determine whether such a diet would help college students, one must first look to its results,
define what a juice fast is, and its facts; including what it provides, lacks, and possible
alternatives. Juice fasting is a fad diet that first started around the 1990s (Daniel). Juicing only
attained main stream appeal around the same time as the release of the 2010 documentary Fat,

Another correlation that was calculated was between hours of sleep per night and academic credits
hours currently enrolled in. Pearson s r was calculated as .111. This data shows a weak, negative
correlation exists, meaning that the more academic hours students are taking, the hours of sleep is
not as affected.
In response to the question, How many hours of sleep do you get on a typical night? , the mean
response was 3.39 (SD=.710) on a 5 point scale where 3 = 5 6 hours and 4 = 7 8 hours.
Overall participants reported sleeping M= 3.39 (SD=.710) around 5 8 hours.
A correlation calculated between average night of sleep as: Restless:Restful and academic credits
hours currently enrolled in was also computed. Pearson s r was calculated as 0.075. This data
shows no relationship between these two variables.
In response to the question, How many academic credit hours are you currently enrolled in? The

18 credits.

student s workload increases, the amount of sleep they receive should decrease in length and
quality. Based off the results of the survey, my prediction

Using attribution and attitudinal theories, evaluate...
The following is a typical statement made by a young person who has given up sport and leads an
unhealthy lifestyle:
I think sport is boring. I am no good at it, I don t enjoy it and I can think of better things to do on a
Saturday afternoon
Using attributional theories, evaluate critically the reasons why this young person does not
participate in sport. How might you persuade this young person to once again take up sport?
It is evident from this statement that the young person concerned has developed a poor attitude
towards a balanced, active, and healthy lifestyle. They may have developed this through poor
previous experiences, such as failure, which have been reinforced by others. For example missing a
penalty and being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can have a negative effect on self confidence.
To change this, attribution retraining can be used. This is where the performer is encouraged to
blame failure on internal/unstable factors as they can be controlled. For example, if they blame
losing a tennis game on effort (unstable) then they can be encouraged to increase effort and achieve
success. Currently, this person shows Need to Avoid Failure characteristics such as low self
confidence and avoidance behaviour. This can be changed to a Need to Achieve personality using
attribution retraining. This can help the performer develop mastery orientation which is self belief
and the desire to achieve. Therefore it is important to use positive reinforcement throughout so as
not to lower the young person s confidence and reduce their motivation.
The young person states that they don t enjoy sport in the statement. This can be linked to the
affective component of the triadic model which is what the individual feels (emotion) about the
activity. There are a number of reasons why someone may not enjoy sport and they are usually
due to negative past experiences, for example, being on the receiving end of hostile aggression in
football. A good way to combat this negativity would be to give the individual success and raise
self confidence. For example, if they have lost many games of tennis, give them a superior doubles
partner or allow them to

The Effects Of Music Therapy On Improving The Qol
According to Alzheimer s Disease International (2012), there are 36 million people living with
dementia worldwide in 2010 and will increase to 66 million by 2030 (p. 7). There is no treatment
and prevention currently available and many elderly people are diagnosed with the dementia.
Dementia gradually destroys the cells in the brain responsible for memory, thinking, judgment,
and behavior. The day to day activities and simple tasks can be confusing and frustrating for the
dementia patient, reducing their quality of life (QoL). Maintaining and improving the QoL
plays a vital role in improving the survival rate. I will be working with the dementia clients so, it
is important to understand how to measure and improve the QoL in order to provide better
services according to the patient s needs. In this paper, I will address the standard instrument used
in measuring the QoL, and the effectiveness of music therapy in enhancing and improving the
QoL. According to Barofsky (2011), Rabins, Black (2007), QoL is a broad concept without a
unique definition and does not depend on a specific set of individual characteristics (as cited in
Graske, Fischer, Kuhlmey, Wolf Ostermann, 2012, p. 1). Whitehouse colleagues (1997), stated that
cognitive function; activities of daily living, social interactions and psychological well being are
the important components that maintain QoL (as cited in Crespo, Bernaldo de Quiros, Gomez,
Hornillos, 2012) Assessing and analyzing QoL is

Andy Griffith Show Research Paper
The Andy Griffith Show and I Love Lucy There are many American shows that are considered
classics. Two of these shows are The Andy Griffith Show created by Arthur Stander and I Love
Lucy created by Jess Oppenheimer et al. Although there are many similarities between the two
shows there were also a number of important differences. In this essay it will be argued that many
of the differences between the two shows are the result of their different settings and the fact that
they were produced a many years apart. This resulted in a number of film making innovations that
were present in The Andy GriffithShow that had not been present during the production of I Love
Lucy. The most important differences between the two shows was their settings. The Andy Griffith
Show was set in the small town of Mayberry in North Carolina. The sets within this town include a

The Andy Griffith show took place in a community that was usually in harmony. Most of the
stories involved something that disrupted the harmony of that community. This was usually
something like a stranger in town or a conflict between community members(Stander). I Love
Lucy tended to deal primarily with the struggles between Lucy and Ricky. On a wider level it
can be considered a show about the relationships between men and women. Also because the
show takes place in an urban center issues like jobs, going out and modern appliances were all
important. The addition of new people did not appear to be an issue in this urban
setting(Oppenheimer et al). The settings of the shows result in very different tones and pacing.
The tone of The Andy Griffith Show is very harmonious largely because it is set in a small rural
community. The pace of life in this community is very slow and relaxed so the show as a whole
has a very slow very relaxed

Rhetorical Criticism
Rhetorical Criticism: Exam
Question One
Rhetorical criticism allows for people to further understand signs and symbols in today s world.
Specifically, the understanding of the relationships that an audience connects with certain signs
and symbols. This is where persuasion comes into play. Signs and symbols are used to persuade
people everyday, meaning advertisements, large companies, and other institutions, use signs and
symbols to persuade their audience. Many people associate specific signs and symbols with
different ideas. An example would be that a baby symbolizes life for some people, while on the
other hand a baby could represent the future for someone else. As stated in one of the first lectures
by Stephanie Hartzell (2015) rhetoric ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The traditional method holds the explanation and evaluation close to the core when critiquing,
whereas the narrative method is deemed as looser when using explanation and evaluation. When
applying the narrative method, the evaluation of the source plays on two elements, the narrative
possibility and fidelity. The former touches on the story being realistic and the components of the
story making sense, or in other words adding up. The latter allows the critic to analyze and figure
out if the story is true due to other stories and personal experiences. These elements also allow the
critic to discover the credibility of the source or author of the message. Through this evaluation is
when the narrative method displays if the narrative given achieves the function of persuasion. On
the other hand, when applying the traditional perspective, the evaluation centers on analyzing the
message for how well it was put together considering the audience and context, and the
understanding of the source, for credibility. All of these components are considered the explanation
of the rhetorical features of the text, and lead to whether or not the persuasive goal was reached.
The ideas of source credibility, and the end goal of persuading the audience are huge similarities
between the two methods. Differences

Residential School Apology Analysis
On behalf of the Government of Canada this apology is in the hopes of reconciling the broken
relationship between the government and our First Nations People. The treatment that children
faced in residential schools is the darkest part of our country s history. Throughout the century that
residential schools existed, over 150,000 Aboriginal families were separated. These children were
being removed and isolated from their homes, families, culture, and traditions in the purpose of
them adopting the dominant culture. Tragically, while attending these residential schools, some of
these children died and others never returned home. The few stories of positive experiences from
residential schools is out shined by the numerous horrid accounts of the physical, sexual and
emotional abuse causing lasting suffering passed down from generations.. We apologize for
neglecting these helpless children. For this we are very sorry. We are sorry for not only the
terrible, abusive experiences you had to go through but also the burden it put on you to have no
power from stopping your children from suffering in the same way.

Private Schools Vs. Public Schools
A school is a that place which is designed to provide learning spaces as well as environments for
the teaching of students under the direction of teachers. Schools are the roots of every children in
his/her life. With the help of school students grasps wide array of knowledge from school which is
beneficial for them in their future. However, some people argue that private schools are better over
public school. From my point of view, private schoolare better because it is enriched with academic
opportunities, well qualify staff and extracurricular activities as compared to public School. Hence, I
agree with this statement that private schools are better than public schools.
The reason why private schools are better than public schools because it enriched with academics
opportunities to a great extend rather than public schools. It is true that private schools have
more rigorous academic programs such as Advanced Placement courses are commonly found in
private schools. There courses are not less than a boon for a student in their long run because it
leads to a various kind of jobs from which they can easily earn a handsome salary. Moreover,
international students can work full time after the academics opportunity from private schools as
well as global internships are available for undergraduate and graduate students of all disciplines in

Imagery And Diction In Shakespeare s Sonnet 138
The Sonnet 138 is a poem by William Shakespeare. In the poem, Shakespeare uses imagery and
diction to describe the speakers mistress to the reader. With the utilization of such techniques,
Shakespeare is able to incorporate the speakers personal qualities as rude, honest, and genuine.
Throughout the poem, the speaker is interpreted as rude by the readers because of the way he
draws out his mistress. The speaker says, My mistress eyes are nothing like the sun / If snow be
white, why then her breasts are dun (1 3). As the speaker uses imagery to illustrates his mistress
eyes, he is saying that they are not bright nor do they shine the way the sun shines. When the
speaker describes her breast as dun, he portrays them as dull and brownish. If the speaker has a
mistress, would it not be with someone who he finds beautiful; someone whose eyes do shine like
the sun and has breast as beautiful as the snow? Describing her features as the opposite of these
characteristics build the reader up to conclude that the speaker is both a rude and honest person....

He says, And in some perfumes is there more delight / Than in the breath that from my mistress
reeks (7 8). The speaker uses diction to describe his sincerity about his mistress breath. He does
not expect her to her breath to smell the way flowers do. The speaker also says, I grant I never
saw a goddess go / My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground (12). In these lines the
speaker lets the reader know that his mistress walk is not elegant as he imagines a goddess walk,
but the complete contrary. Throughout the end of the poem the reader begins to understand that the
speaker is more honest and genuine than what he began to come off

My Breaking In From Black Beauty
Literature Critique
Throughout the world and history horses have been used for various things and been treated
various ways. To some, horses are just another tool like a shovel or tractor used for work to
complete necessary tasks. For others horses are family used for hobby or sport and loved dearly. It
is amazing how the view of horses has changed over the years and still today people have
different opinions on how horses should be treated, and what they should be used for. The two
chapters I read from Price s book greatly differed and showed very different opinions of horses.
The first chapter, My Breaking In from Black Beauty, is a short description of how horses are broke
from the eyes of a horse. The author uses the perspective of a horse to describe how if horses are
treated well they will work hard for you in return. In the chapter Black Beauty is talking to his
mom who tells him how there are different types of masters (owners) in the world, she explains
how you should work hard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

still loves him and cares for him. In the Hunting Sketches chapter the narrator has almost a hatred
for the horses because he dislikes fox hunting and doesn t want to do it. The first chapter describes
the horses as much more than tools while the Hunting Sketches chapter depicts horses as just
another part of the fox hunting sport. In the Black Beauty chapter the horse wants to work for his
master and the master wants the best for his horse. The whole chapter is based around the horse
and written from the horses prospective. The Hunting Sketches chapter talks about fox hunting and
really doesn t emphasize the horses. The author discusses his dislike for fox hunting and his
frustration with his horse. These two stories are very different and show very different opinions of

Jefferson And Andrew Jackson
Both Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson believed that they positively influenced the people of
the United States. These two Presidents considered themselves as helping the common interests of
the people, yet had different and similar approaches to running the government and conducting
Presidential tasks. Thomas Jefferson, elected in 1800, had different views on the National
Government and its affairs compared to Jackson (Davidson and Stoff 310). Jefferson believed that
the states should have more power than the Federal Government, essentially supporting a limited
central government (311). Also, in regards to foreign affairs and expansion, Jefferson chose to
handle them peacefully instead of forcefully (315 and 324). Within the country,... Show more

In other words, Jackson believed that the Federal Government should have more power over the
state legislatures, in order to maintain a stable and effective U.S. government for all to see. This
difference is supported by Jackson s arguments against nullification (365). Nullification is the
action of a state to cancel any objectionable federal law (364). The support against nullification
means that Jackson did not believe that the states should be able to object to any federal laws;
assering the Federal Government s dominance over the states. Within this argument, Jackson issued
a document known as the Proclamation to the People of South Carolina (365). This proclamation
stated that, even if the state of South Carolina supported nullification and President Jackson did
not, South Carolina could not threaten to leave the Union. This was named treason in the
document. It was released in response to an attempt by South Carolina to nullify tariffs placed on
textiles in 1828 (364). In a final display of Federal Government power, Jackson passed a law
which allowed members of the government to forcefully collect tariffs if necessary (365). In this
situation with South Carolina, it is clear that an irate President Jackson was keen on showing the
country the power of the American Federal Government. On the other hand, President Jefferson
fired government employees as part of his Revolution. Despite

Gary Soto: A Man of Inspiration By: Josie Estrella Freeman, Bloque Tres, el seis de octubre
It appears these days I don t have much of a life because my nose is often stuck in a book. But I

Ethnic and Class Conflicts in Turkestan Essay

rebels of 1916 revolt in different areas, mainly in Turkestan and Semirechie oblast, providing deep

At the beginning of the rebel of 1916 was considered as a minor one by Russian authorities. In
reality, it led to prolonged consequences. Question on whether the suppression of a revolt was
prepared or not is a source for debate amongst historians. While some of them seem to have
reasonable arguments on the preparedness of the Tsarist administration, others try to persuade the
contrary. The Ryskulov`s work Vosstanie Kirgizov i Kazakhov v 1916 godu. Sbornik Materialov

General Governors of Turkestan and Semirechie Oblast` Folbaum and Kuropatkin, who were
corresponding on the plan of suppression. He claims that Kuropatkin has already prepared a plan
for the suppression before the rebel had started and accuses Folbaum of making an account to

The Middle Passage Analysis
In The Middle Passage Documentary by Steven Spielberg, the trans Atlantic slave trade is
analyzed and broken down to reveal the true horrors endured by millions of African Americans
through the four hundred years it occurred. Step by step, it travels through the journey the slaves
suffered through, from the initial capturing to the moments they arrived in America, only to be
auctioned off as no more than lowly farm animals. The documentary shows the overall journey of
the Middle Passage and the trials involved, but the book Copper Sun by Sharon Draper portrays it
in a different light. The novel follows an enslaved African by the name of Amari through the
horrors of the capture, forced migration, and voyage to the land of the whites. Another perspective
within the book is of a white girl named Polly who is braving the hardships that come with being an
indentured servant. Yet what both the documentary and novel show are the unbreakable spirits of
the ones who were forced to withstand the barbarous actions of the people who imprisoned them....

The Problem Of Poverty On A Macro Level
Introduction
Individuals struggling to keep adequate shelter. Some may face challenges of seeking medical
attention. Others have no access to jobs or schools. Some parents fail daily in providing food and
water for their children. These are just a few sentences that describe poverty. If we closed our eyes
and envisioned poverty, we think of children in the second largest continent, Africa, standing
around with no clothes or shoes on. We think of the kids looking mal nutritious or with other
sicknesses and flies flying around their faces but they are too weak to brush them away. We think
of people with no education, no skills, or no ideas. These statements are far from facts. I will take
you through the ongoing issue of poverty from a macro level and show you how it can affect case
management. Then I will take you through the case management process of trying to end poverty.
Poverty on a Macro Level
Poverty on a macro level seems to be an ongoing issue that continues to catch the attention of the
richer countries, celebrities, charity organizations and other organizations. When we see the images
of people living in unlivable conditions or a catastrophe hits, empathy and sympathy automatically
kicks in. By having compassion, we as tax payers begin to send money to government donors.
Some of the money will be disbursed to charity organizations and non government organizations to
provide aid to a nation. The money then should go into completing projects such as building

Mountaintop Removal And Valley Filling
Mountaintop removal and valley filling is the long time process of mining for coal, primarily in
southern Appalachia. In mountaintop removal the tops of mountains are removed to expose the
layer of coal. The earth that is removed from the mountaintop is then disposed in nearby valleys.
Following the removal of the coalfrom the mountain, the coal is washed ; the liquid that is left
over after cleaning the coal is called coal slurry. This process of reshaping mountains and valleys
has dangerous and everlasting effects on the ecology and aesthetic value of the mountain. Citizens
in rural Appalachia typically rely on water from small streams in order to have a clean water supply
for their families. Due to the misshapen landscape caused by mountaintop removal and runoff from
coal slurries, communities surrounding mountaintop removal sites and valley fill typically
experience contaminated water. Even though mountaintop removal coal mining is an effective way
to remove the entire amount of coal from a mountain, mountain top removal should be strictly
regulated by the government because the water quality of persons in areas surrounding removal
sites are being demolished and flow rates of streams and stream ecosystems are being disturbed
due to the nature of mountain top removal and valley filling. To begin, it is important to discuss
the rights water uses have in areas surrounding mountain top removal sites as well as the trade offs
water uses make in dealing with large coal

True Art Speaks Plainly, By Theodore Dreiser
The literary movement of realism addresses material in an accurate way that is true to life,
regardless of the moral boundaries which may be broken. Several authors have undertaken efforts
to define this movement in the most accurate and concise way possible. Theodore Dreiser, in True
Art Speaks Plainly , strives to identify those components which are necessary to literature that is
classified under the realism movement. William Dean Howellss Editha is a literary work that reflects
this definitionof realism. Dreiser s arguments regarding the presence of immorality in literature as a
precondition for artistic honesty find an example in the actions of the protagonist of Howells s
story. Theodore Dreiser s True Art Speaks Plainly defines realism as literature that speaks the truth
regardless of its moral substance, and this definition is observable in Howells s Editha through the
corrupt motivations of the protagonist, the critical portrayal of nation states at war, and the ugly
manipulation utilized by the protagonist.
Editha, the story s protagonist, uses weak moral arguments regarding virtue and honor to support
her selfish desire for recognition through another s sacrifice. Throughout the story, the author
reveals that she wants George to join the war effort in a selfish desire for her own personal glory.
Howells writes, But now, it flashed upon her, if he could do something worthy to have won her be

  • 2. Essay about Internet Terrorism Internet Security Holes and Cyberterrorism Abstract: This paper investigates and substantiates the potential for hackers to cause damage in the physical world. A fictional case study is provided along with an analysis of past, present, and future technological threats. The combination of a historic apathy towards computer security and an increased reliance on technology may soon lead to a real world cybercatastrophe . I first learned about computer hacking from an article featured in the New York Timesmagazine several years ago. It described the life of members of a hacking group known as L0pht. They were neither benign nor malicious; they would simply look for holes in software products and post the results on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the anniversary of the release of Windows 2004, a terrorist hacking group known as Horizon launched a full scale assault on the city of Seattle. At exactly 6:30 P.M., the height of rush hour, chaos was unleashed on the city. In many instances, disaster could not be avoided simply because no physical system was in place to alleviate computer malfunction. Horizon successfully altered the destinations of several trains, causing them to collide, killing hundreds in the process. Brake systems on new model cars were triggered, causing multi car accidents on major highways. Automated devices in hospitals ceased working altogether, leaving many patients without critical life support. As a final touch, Horizon diverted several airplanes to the corporate headquarters of Microsoft in nearby Redmond, Washington, burning the complex to the ground with a multitude of personnel still inside. Rescue efforts were initiated immediately, but the severity of the attacks left the dead numbering in the thousands. Over the course of the next few weeks, Microsoft employees were able to recreate the crime and track down the flaw. In the meantime, fears of a second attack crippled life across America. • 4. Puritans Impact On American Society The name, American Society, represents a society that many believed was shaped by America itself. However, Puritanism shaped America s ethical and political views, and the Great Awaken shaped the people s belief on religious freedom in the nation. Therefore, these events did not only shape the time prior to the Civil War, but shaped America for times to come. Puritans did a variety of things for America, other than make people of this age think they re some Pharisees or some weird freaks over religion. They actually helped in contributing Americans devotion to the practice of education. Puritans had a zeal for education and that zeal was founded in their origins. In the view of the Puritans, the Biblewas their central to Christian education. They desired education and enlightenment for everyone, especially the common people. They wanted people to be able to read and understand the Bible for themselves in order perspire in the wondrous religion they call their life. Reading of the Bible was necessary to living a devoted life to God. The education of the next generation was important to further purify the church and perfect social living in order to enter the gates of heaven. This view goes back to Martin Luther s idea, who stated, Above all, the foremost reading for everybody, both in the universities and in the schools, should be Holy Scripture... I would advise no one to send his child where the Holy Scriptures are not supreme. Once the Puritans ventured to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In preparing the column chromatography set up, the column was plugged with cotton and uniformly packed with silica gel up to the intended part of the dropping pipette. 0.5 mL of the extract was then placed on top of the column using a pipette. The pigment mixture was eluted using 10 mL of DCM hexane (1:1) and afterwards introduced in portions. The members were instructed not to allow the column to run dry. The colorless eluates were discarded while the colored eluates were collected in separate test tubes. The number of drops of the eluate collected in each test tube was noted. Figure 1. • 6. Slavery And The American Revolution Slavery has been a key issue in American history since the first settlers settled here in 1607. Historians such as Vincent J Rosivach writes that when the issue of slavery is mentioned the first thing people think about is the slavery model of the deep south, the cotton kingdom. Rosivach writes that there were many different slave models such as the northern American colonies and 4th century Athens. Rosivach and many other historians agree that the way slaverywas done in the north was totally different from the south. Slaves have had an important role particularly in the northern American colonies helping them early establish themselves first as a region then as a country. Historians have argued that America was built on the backs of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the north owners usually owned only one or two slaves. Historians have figured that these owners could have done without them if necessary. Owning slaves was less a commitment than a response to labor needs. That is why we see blacks working in their owners shops. Historians like Shane white argue that slaves now had an advantage over slaves in any other area, because these slaves were picking up trades that could help in their future journey. Rosivach on page 552 talks about how slaves helped the economy. White talked about the trades they picked up and now Rosivach expands on that. Since most slave owners only owned a few slaves the owner s main priority was to make ends meet for his family. Rosivach talks about how slaves could run the owner s shops if the owners had to leave for a short period of time. Slaves also helped speed up production. With two people working it helped the owner make more money. They were not running large scaled operations but simple community ran business. Rosivach also states that even if someone did not own a slave in the north they could produce the same amount of production as a slave and his owner. Rosivach is making the claim that slaves are expendable and not a dire need as they were in the south. Rosivach and White both talk about the type of work slaves did in the north. Along with that work came the person they worked for. During this time before the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Analysis Of Simone De Beauvoir s The Second Sex The first text we explore in this step is Bonaventure s On Seeing God in his Image . Bonaventure shows us that through inward reflection we can see God. God can then lead us to God s two most important laws, and the best ways for us to live in community with others; by loving God, and our neighbors. The next text is from the 2nd Vatican Council called Pastoral Constitution, which focused on bringing the church into modern times. This text focuses on the importance of helping those being marginalized, those who are on the brink of society, and what is the best way that the Church as a community can fight to protect them. The following text comes from Simone de Beauvoir called The Second Sex, which discusses the ideas of the feminist... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One major link includes the fight between an oppressed group and their persecutors. Whether it s the proletariat and the bourgeois in The Communist Manifesto, or the inequality of genders in The Second Sex, or the flight of the African Americans in the Letter from Birmingham Jail . In all of these texts we are shown how easy it is for one group to abuse their power and create unfair rules and regulations only imposed on the more inferior members of society. Each group of oppressor thrives off of alienating, and subjugating their inferiors. So it seems the theme of solidarity is the only way to combat this linkage of oppression. In all of the texts we are shown that through solidarity comes freedom. We see in Bonaventure, and Vatican Council II that all God wants for God s people is inclusion, and to fight for the rights of the others of the world. In the more secular texts from King, de Beauvoir, and Marx and Engels, we see the same ideas. The only way to fight prejudice is to unite the people of either side of the problem, and have them work together to make the whole of society a more inclusive place. By uniting together to fight oppression we overcome the trivialities that separate seemingly opposing groups. The next theme contingent throughout the step is the benefits of community. This is similar to the inclusiveness that comes from solidarity, but through community we can prevent oppression from happening ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Media Violence And Its Effects Media violence exposure has been investigated as a risk factor for aggression behavior for years. The impact of exposure to violence in the media the long term development and short term development of aggressive behavior has been documented. Aggression is caused by several factors, of which media violenceis one. Research investigating the effects of media violence in conjunction with other predictors of aggressionsuch as; environmental factors and dysfunction within the family household, is needed in order to better understand its contribution to aggressive behavior. Furthermore, the debate of whether or not how media violence leads to aggression has received renewed attention following tragic events; Sandy Hook, Umpqua Community College in Kosenburg, Oregon, 2012 Aurora shooting, traumatic news coverage, a 8 year old boy intentionally shot and killed elderly caregiver and countless other events; all of these casualties were caused by media violence. • 15. Identity, Hegemony, And Played Through The Dynamics Of... McIntosh (2009) offers an intriguing case study, where the concepts of personhood, hegemony, and fractal recursivity are intertwined and played through the dynamics of Swahili Giriama bordered ethnoreligious interactions. The Giriama geographical, social, religious, and linguistic subordination to the Swahili Muslims is the framework to negotiate, resist or submit to the hegemonic Swahili Islam. First, through personhood, the Giriama frame their religious actions and relations with the Swahilis. Their actions are collective and caused by external powers, rather than individualistically bounded and rational actors as the Swahilis. How Arabic in this case is perceived amplify this notion, as Swahilis take it to be accessible via learning and memorizing, and Giriama take it to be accessible through spirit possession by Muslim spirits. This reinforces their submission and lose of identity by adopting Arabic (p. 255). Second, hegemony plays a significant role in shaping how power is lived and replicated in daily life, to be accepted or rejected by the society. Therefore, Giriama attitude towards Swahili Muslims is exhibited in their refusal to submit to Islam and instead cherish their traditionalism, yet they oftentimes acknowledge Islam s power and the potency of Arabic through divination and spirit possession. Third, fractal recursivity is shown through how the Giriama s evident urbanity is opposed to them living on the margins of the city thus closer to the jungle and their ... Represented as anti Semitism, this can be defined as, Hostility toward or discrimination against Jews as a religious, ethnic, or racial group ( Anti Semitism ). Although Adolf Hitler s reign of terror had a significant part in defining anti Semitism, this dates as far back to the ancient Roman times. In 70 AD the dawn of anti Semitism was exhibited when, Roman authorities destroyed the Jewish temple in Jerusalem and forced Jews to leave Palestine ( The Holocaust ). Not only were Jews discriminated against prior in World War II and the Holocaust, today, it is said that, Israeli Jews all but universally say anti Semitism is at least somewhat common around the world today, including nearly two thirds who say it is very common. ( Anti Semitism and discrimination ). Israeli Jews have a strong opinion that, roughly three quarters say anti Semitism is not only common but on the rise globally, while virtually no Israeli Jews say it is decreasing (Anti Semitism and discrimination); On the other hand, Americans have an opposing view of the incline of anti Semitism. However, many other writers also began concentrating on the darker theme of naturalism. Nella Larsen s Quicksand illustrates many elements of this movement. These include a biological determinism, where man is conceived of as controlled by his primitive animal instincts and a sociological determinism, whereby the weak are destroyed and the strong survive in a world of struggle and chance. • 19. Fat Sick And Nearly Dead Analysis Hayden Yost Dr. Burns Eng 101 Nov. 15th, 2017 Is Juice Fasting Alone Enough for College Students? Juicing has been praised as a practice capable of helping with weight loss and serving as a first step towards a healthier lifestyle many have yet to try, but while many claims center on the short term changes caused by the juice fast, fewer take note of the long term effects. To determine whether such a diet would help college students, one must first look to its results, define what a juice fast is, and its facts; including what it provides, lacks, and possible alternatives. Juice fasting is a fad diet that first started around the 1990s (Daniel). Juicing only attained main stream appeal around the same time as the release of the 2010 documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead , in which a man, Joe Cross, recognizes the circle of poor habits he s trapped himself in. This, combined with his realizing what is bound to happen if nothing changes pushes Cross to making the decision to shift his life onto a path promising a much happier future. The documentary begins with a melancholic but determined Joe Cross and follows his 60 day travels across the United States sharing his journey, goal, and progress made under the juice fast. As time passes, the viewer witnesses the changes Cross experiences, as he grows more optimistic, outgoing, and determined to where he chooses to incorporate regular exercise alongside his juice fast journey. How might you persuade this young person to once again take up sport? Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This can have a negative effect on self confidence. To change this, attribution retraining can be used. This is where the performer is encouraged to blame failure on internal/unstable factors as they can be controlled. For example, if they blame losing a tennis game on effort (unstable) then they can be encouraged to increase effort and achieve success. Currently, this person shows Need to Avoid Failure characteristics such as low self confidence and avoidance behaviour. This can be changed to a Need to Achieve personality using attribution retraining. This can help the performer develop mastery orientation which is self belief and the desire to achieve. Therefore it is important to use positive reinforcement throughout so as not to lower the young person s confidence and reduce their motivation. The young person states that they don t enjoy sport in the statement. This can be linked to the affective component of the triadic model which is what the individual feels (emotion) about the activity. There are a number of reasons why someone may not enjoy sport and they are usually due to negative past experiences, for example, being on the receiving end of hostile aggression in football. A good way to combat this negativity would be to give the individual success and raise self confidence. The Effects Of Music Therapy On Improving The Qol According to Alzheimer s Disease International (2012), there are 36 million people living with dementia worldwide in 2010 and will increase to 66 million by 2030 (p. 7). There is no treatment and prevention currently available and many elderly people are diagnosed with the dementia. Dementia gradually destroys the cells in the brain responsible for memory, thinking, judgment, and behavior. The day to day activities and simple tasks can be confusing and frustrating for the dementia patient, reducing their quality of life (QoL). Maintaining and improving the QoL plays a vital role in improving the survival rate. I will be working with the dementia clients so, it is important to understand how to measure and improve the QoL in order to provide better services according to the patient s needs. In this paper, I will address the standard instrument used in measuring the QoL, and the effectiveness of music therapy in enhancing and improving the QoL. According to Barofsky (2011), Rabins, Black (2007), QoL is a broad concept without a unique definition and does not depend on a specific set of individual characteristics (as cited in Graske, Fischer, Kuhlmey, Wolf Ostermann, 2012, p. 1). Whitehouse colleagues (1997), stated that cognitive function; activities of daily living, social interactions and psychological well being are the important components that maintain QoL (as cited in Crespo, Bernaldo de Quiros, Gomez, Hornillos, 2012) Assessing and analyzing QoL is ... The traditional method holds the explanation and evaluation close to the core when critiquing, whereas the narrative method is deemed as looser when using explanation and evaluation. When applying the narrative method, the evaluation of the source plays on two elements, the narrative possibility and fidelity. The former touches on the story being realistic and the components of the story making sense, or in other words adding up. The latter allows the critic to analyze and figure out if the story is true due to other stories and personal experiences. These elements also allow the critic to discover the credibility of the source or author of the message. Through this evaluation is when the narrative method displays if the narrative given achieves the function of persuasion. On the other hand, when applying the traditional perspective, the evaluation centers on analyzing the message for how well it was put together considering the audience and context, and the understanding of the source, for credibility. All of these components are considered the explanation of the rhetorical features of the text, and lead to whether or not the persuasive goal was reached. Throughout the poem, the speaker is interpreted as rude by the readers because of the way he draws out his mistress. As the speaker uses imagery to illustrates his mistress eyes, he is saying that they are not bright nor do they shine the way the sun shines. The support against nullification means that Jackson did not believe that the states should be able to object to any federal laws; assering the Federal Government s dominance over the states. The Ryskulov`s work Vosstanie Kirgizov i Kazakhov v 1916 godu. Sbornik Materialov can be taken as an example that have quite reasonable arguments on that the suppression was already planned. Ryskulov interprets a detailed analysis of business correspondence between the General Governors of Turkestan and Semirechie Oblast` Folbaum and Kuropatkin, who were corresponding on the plan of suppression. He claims that Kuropatkin has already prepared a plan for the suppression before the rebel had started and accuses Folbaum of making an account to military forces and of arranging military force in places where Kazakh Kyzgyzs might escape. • 38. The Middle Passage Analysis In The Middle Passage Documentary by Steven Spielberg, the trans Atlantic slave trade is analyzed and broken down to reveal the true horrors endured by millions of African Americans through the four hundred years it occurred. Step by step, it travels through the journey the slaves suffered through, from the initial capturing to the moments they arrived in America, only to be auctioned off as no more than lowly farm animals. The documentary shows the overall journey of the Middle Passage and the trials involved, but the book Copper Sun by Sharon Draper portrays it in a different light. The novel follows an enslaved African by the name of Amari through the horrors of the capture, forced migration, and voyage to the land of the whites. Another perspective within the book is of a white girl named Polly who is braving the hardships that come with being an indentured servant. Yet what both the documentary and novel show are the unbreakable spirits of the ones who were forced to withstand the barbarous actions of the people who imprisoned them.... Others have no access to jobs or schools. Some parents fail daily in providing food and water for their children. These are just a few sentences that describe poverty. If we closed our eyes and envisioned poverty, we think of children in the second largest continent, Africa, standing around with no clothes or shoes on. We think of the kids looking mal nutritious or with other sicknesses and flies flying around their faces but they are too weak to brush them away. We think of people with no education, no skills, or no ideas. These statements are far from facts. I will take you through the ongoing issue of poverty from a macro level and show you how it can affect case management. Then I will take you through the case management process of trying to end poverty. Poverty on a Macro Level Poverty on a macro level seems to be an ongoing issue that continues to catch the attention of the richer countries, celebrities, charity organizations and other organizations. When we see the images of people living in unlivable conditions or a catastrophe hits, empathy and sympathy automatically kicks in. By having compassion, we as tax payers begin to send money to government donors. Some of the money will be disbursed to charity organizations and non government organizations to provide aid to a nation. The money then should go into completing projects such as building ... • 40. Mountaintop Removal And Valley Filling Mountaintop removal and valley filling is the long time process of mining for coal, primarily in southern Appalachia. In mountaintop removal the tops of mountains are removed to expose the layer of coal. The earth that is removed from the mountaintop is then disposed in nearby valleys. Following the removal of the coalfrom the mountain, the coal is washed ; the liquid that is left over after cleaning the coal is called coal slurry. This process of reshaping mountains and valleys has dangerous and everlasting effects on the ecology and aesthetic value of the mountain. Citizens in rural Appalachia typically rely on water from small streams in order to have a clean water supply for their families. Due to the misshapen landscape caused by mountaintop removal and runoff from coal slurries, communities surrounding mountaintop removal sites and valley fill typically experience contaminated water. Even though mountaintop removal coal mining is an effective way to remove the entire amount of coal from a mountain, mountain top removal should be strictly regulated by the government because the water quality of persons in areas surrounding removal sites are being demolished and flow rates of streams and stream ecosystems are being disturbed due to the nature of mountain top removal and valley filling. To begin, it is important to discuss the rights water uses have in areas surrounding mountain top removal sites as well as the trade offs water uses make in dealing with large coal ... Theodore Dreiser, in True Art Speaks Plainly , strives to identify those components which are necessary to literature that is classified under the realism movement. William Dean Howellss Editha is a literary work that reflects this definitionof realism. Dreiser s arguments regarding the presence of immorality in literature as a precondition for artistic honesty find an example in the actions of the protagonist of Howells s story. Theodore Dreiser s True Art Speaks Plainly defines realism as literature that speaks the truth regardless of its moral substance, and this definition is observable in Howells s Editha through the corrupt motivations of the protagonist, the critical portrayal of nation states at war, and the ugly manipulation utilized by the protagonist. Editha, the story s protagonist, uses weak moral arguments regarding virtue and honor to support her selfish desire for recognition through another s sacrifice. Throughout the story, the author reveals that she wants George to join the war effort in a selfish desire for her own personal glory.
