Millau Viaduct
Millau Viaduct is the tallest bridge in the world, located in Southern France. The bridge reaches the
height of 343 meters and weighs in a 36,000 tonnes. The bridge was designed by the French structural
engineer Michel Virlogeux and British architect Norman Foster. The bridge opened in 2004 on 16th
December after costing around €400 million.

Homeland Security Bill
The homeland security bill meets the prevention portion of the preparedness cycle by mitigation,
which provides the necessary capabilities to reduce loss of life and property by lessening the impact of
disasters (Cordner, 2016) mainly through collaboration, in addition to information sharing, threat
recognition, target hardening or risk management, and intervention (Pelfrey, 2012). This applies to
terrorism and transnational crime (intentional acts by people), with hopes to prevent a number of those
acts from occurring; and preventing or reducing harm from natural disasters (hurricanes, tornados, and
earthquakes) by introducing preventive measures, such as people taking the proper precautions and
upgrading buildings. Another target for prevention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Police departments need to develop contingency plans and backup systems to ensure that they can
continue to operate and protect the community during the post disaster recovery period. Furthermore,
the police role in terrorism and disasters recovery is secondary; Federal Emergency Management
Agency, the Red Cross, other charitable organizations, insurance companies, private businesses, state
and local governments, and individuals have a primary responsibility for community and economic
recovery. Moreover, Police were required to support the all hazards homeland security mission with
additional and enhanced equipment and training. Also, as a guide to homeland security, the police
adopted a dual process, which they should have everyday uses and emergency uses; and regional
cooperation should guide purchasing of the most expensive and specialized equipment. Department of
Homeland Security raised new training requirements; established a Target Capabilities list that
identifies what emergency responders and other will need to do in various types of disasters; and
funded the development and delivery of homeland security related training for police and others, in
addition to setting up a training portal. Continual training needs are planning for terrorism,

Dr. Henry
Tiffany,
Good post on defining environmental consciousness, you mentioned scientist and scholars alike
understands and in need of people who put more thought into how products are manufactured. You
gave good examples listed in your paper. You mentioned it is about having awareness of what an
individual is putting in the environment. I found that prior research indicates that people vary in levels
of environmental consciousness depending on their sociodemographic characteristics (Ying Chang

I agree the Internet is a great platform individuals are given to socialize and transfer information. It
has enhanced our environment worldwide. You mentioned a solider didn t have the accessible
resources to connect with he/she family, but in today s society that option is available for Skype to
visually connect over the internet. I found the internet of things has a major impact in our future of
mankind and on the daily life of the individuals, we are part of a world where everything has the
potential to be connected. As a matter of fact, it is estimated by garner that by 2020, the installed base
for the internet of things will exceed 212 billion and will be over 30 billion of connected things
(Hucanu Georgescu, 2016). The examples of the soldier, gospel, virtually around the world were great
examples that you incorporated in your paper. I agree it s important to protect the copyright laws. You
mentioned individual earning royalty for their music and it s important to ensure copyright with the
music. I found this to be true because Copyright in a song is different from many other works. Each
song holds two copyrights: a copyright in the sand recording and a copyright in the musical
composition (Conte, 2017). Fischer explains how we should follow rules and it shows respect. In
Matthew 7:12 (ERV) says, Do for others what you would want them to do for you . As it is so many
creative people in the music industry it s imperative to treat people how you expect to be

Essay on the Structure of William Faulkner s A Rose for...
The Structure of A Rose for Emily
William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily is a story that uses flashbacks to foreshadow a surprise ending.
The story begins with the death of a prominent old woman, Emily, and finishes with the startling
discovery that Emily as been sleeping with the corpse of her lover, whom she murdered, for the past
forty years. The middle of the story is told in flashbacks by a narrator who seems to represent the
collective memory of an entire town. Within these flashbacks, which jump in time from ten years past
to forty years past, are hidden clues which prepare the reader for the unexpected ending, such as hints
of Emily s insanity, her odd behavior concerning the deaths of loved ones, and the evidence that the ...

When the people of the town try to explain away her odd behavior, they did not say she was crazy
then (paragraph 28). This implies that although at that time she wasn t considered insane, and although
the narrator never states so directly, there will come a time when she will be.
An important idiosyncrasy of Emily s that will help the reader to understand the bizarre finale of the
story, is her apparent inability to cope with the death of someone she cared for. When deputies were
sent to recover back taxes from Emily, she directed them to Colonel Sartoris, an ex mayor that had
told her she would never have to pay taxes, and a man that had been dead for ten years. Years before
this incident, however, after her father had died, she continued to act has if he had not, and only
allowed his body to be removed when threatened with legal action. Considering the fate of her lover s
corpse, one suspects she would have kept her father s corpse also, had the town not known of his
death.
Littered throughout the story is evidence that the murder took place. When Emily takes up with
Homer Barron, a man whom the narrator makes clear was not the marrying kind; rumors start to fly
about the two at a time when it was not considered proper for a man and woman to live together. The
town, her relatives, and the Baptist minister disapproved of the relationship, and Emily was in danger
of loosing Homer. A year after the relationship begins, and the pressures to either marry

What Does China Think Analysis
Book Review: What Does China Think?
China s rise has been discussed as a remarkable affair for years, and now China is ready to become
another superpower. In a book, What Does China Think? by Mark Leonard, the battle of ideas in
China is being introduced and shown to the readers; many opinions and assertions on Chinese reforms
within economic and political perspectives are being discussed to find ways that China should pursue.
The author conjures up that China has grown into a huge economic power, exemplifying the numerous
amount of Chinese products which are labeled with Made in China . However, the author also deals
with problems that China is confronting; the author includes Yuanmingyan , a symbolic embodiment
of China s historical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One Chinese thinker, Zhang Weiying, formulated the idea of dual track pricing with introducing an
allegory, called the village of zebras . In the story of the allegory, elders in a village argued endlessly
that their village s horses were better than the neighboring zebras. However, they found out that the
zebras were actually superior to their horses. Realizing the reality, the elders confronted and worried
about one problem; their villagers were too accustomed to the horses, resulting from the previous
elders argument, so that embracing the zebras would be difficult for them. Hence, the elders created a
plan; they painted their horses with strips every night while other villagers were sleeping. When
villagers found out and shocked about the zebras, the elders assured that those zebras were actually
their own horses that were painted with stripes. Finally, all the villagers became accustomed with the
zebras; the replacement was successful. By implying this allegory, Weiying argued that dual track
pricing would help to promote China s economic growth without implementing new idea suddenly.
Dual track pricing is an idea that publishes market prices and state controlled prices simultaneously.
Increasing the ratio of the market prices, the state controlled prices could be replaced. Accordingly,
most Chinese thinkers advocated that the gradual change would work more appropriately and
effectively than the sudden change for the economic

Triangle Theory Of Love Essay
The theories of love covered many components and view about what love is, what drives us to want
someone and also what brings someone to committing to that significant other for the long run. One
theory that I found to be the most helpful in categorizing love and explaining what makes a person
want to find love in the first place was the Sternberg s Triangular Theory of Love. Sternberg s Triangle
Theory of Love have three points in the triangular shape which are decision/commitment, intimacy
and passion. Decision and commitment is when a person consciously make the decision to do thing for
the relationship and invest time into the relationship for better or worse. The person at this time is in
total awareness and in control of what they would like to do in the relationship and where they would
want to lead it in the future. Passion is when our partner reciprocates our passion or lust for them
through kissing or making love. Intimacy is where we have become very emotionally invested in our
partner expressing ourselves through communication. This theory is one that shows that couples can
be a match or mismatch, but show points to where they are very compatible. I thought this theory on
love was the most meaningful and useful to me because it is simplistic for understanding and to being
able to test it in real life. I believe that as a person seeking out for love, you want to probably go
through the three points on the triangle that Sternberg has described. I believe that

The Spanish navigator Vicente Yáñez Pinzón was the first known European in the region now
constituting Brazil. Landing near the site of present day Recife on January 26, 1500, he subsequently
drifted northward as far as the mouth of the Orinoco River. In April 1500, the Portuguese navigator
Pedro Álvares Cabral also reached the coast of present day Brazil and formally claimed the
surrounding region in the name of Portugal. The territory was named Terra da Vera Cruz (Brazil

Politics (past/present)
In 1961 Janio da Silva Quadros became President. He believed that Brazil had to trade with all nations
and worked to increase trade with communist countries such as Cuba. Pres. Joao Goulart succeeded
him after seven months, when military leaders feared that Silva would open the doors for a communist
take over. In 1964 troops forced Goulart out of office and Gen. Castel Branco took over. Branco was
given many powers by the military including the right to suspend the rights of citizens and he was
succeeded by three other Generals until 1978. During the late 1960 s and early 1970s Brazil s
economy flourished after the military banned political as well as trade union activities (Brazil
Government).

Andrew Jackson Pros
Why should the United States honor a president who caused immense pain to many innocent people
and led our country into a financial panic and depression by putting him on the $20 bill? Andrew
Jackson was not the great man that many people learned about. Jackson did many things during his
presidency that should are dishonorable, such as supporting the Indian Removals, or kicking qualified
people out of his office to make room for his friends in the government. Even though many people
believe he was the people s president and stood for democracy, we should not be applauding a
president that supported discrimination and slavery during his time in office. Andrew Jackson was
against the national bank, too, and even went as far as to begin a campaign to close down the bank.
Additionally, Jackson committed various dishonorable actions during his presidency that lost him the
trust of some of his voters and gave his opponents valid reasons to oppose him. Andrew Jackson does
not deserve to be on the $20 bill.

depression that continued until the mid 1840s. Jackson s war on the bank also included attacks on

ecological zones. The diversity of the natural ecosystem ranges from semi arid port in the northern, to
rain forest and vast freshwater swamp forest with another different coastal vegetation in the
southwesterly. The land s heavy capableness of biodiversity let around 20,000 species of insects, near
1000 species of birds, 247 species of mammals, 123 species of reptiles and most 1000 species of fish.
The land is also fortunate with near 7,895 species of plants (Federal Government of Nigeria, 2001).
Nigeria s economy is characterized by vast rural based conventional sector with almost 70% of the

Car Rental Industry Elasticity
The rental car industries as well as other industries within the travel market are challenged with
developing a pricing strategy that will maximize profits for the firm. In our analysis of three firms,
Hertz, Avis and Budget, our team used qualitative and quantitative methods to develop an
understanding of their pricing strategies. We wanted to determine which company has the best overall
pricing strategy. Furthermore, these methods helped us develop recommendations involving
segmentation and brand differentiation that will help these rental car companies insure greater
profitability through pricing that will minimize consumer surplus. Our examination of the three rental

Budget and Avis are both subsidiaries of Cendant Corp. who bought both companies separately.
Although both Avis and Budget were part of Cendant by the end of the year 2002 they operate as
separate companies and maintain distinct brand identities. Avis positions itself as a business friendly
rental car company while Budget tries to own the leisure segment. The two brands together operate
over 6,000 outlets in the Americas, Australia, New Zealand and the Caribbean. Each rental car
company maintains separate advertising campaigns, websites and counters, while combining some
back office operations to reduce costs. Hertz was a wholly owned subsidiary of the Ford Motor
Company until it was sold in September 2005 to a private equity firm for $15 billion. Hertz dominates
the airport rental car market, operating approximately 350 sites in the United States. The company
offers customers high quality vehicles and premium service. It derives the bulk of its sales and profits
from rentals in the United States. It considers Avis to be a key competitor. Hertz offers its customers
several key features including the low cost Hertz #1 Club Gold program which provides an expedited

My Calling In My Life
Finding our true calling in life isn t always easy. To me a calling is something that you find joy in and
are passionate about. As followers of Christ we are told to trust God and follow what He calls us to do.
I believe that God directs us down different paths throughout our lives that lead us to a calling rather
than just handing it to us. This can be scary as we never know His exact plan. As soon as we get
comfortable in one area of our life and feel as if we have found our calling God throws us a curveball.
I don t believe that we just have one calling. Every aspect of our life has a piece of our overall calling.

Just being able to be there for someone in a time of need brings me great joy. Being able to build
strong relationships helps not only others, but myself as well. I like having people in my life that I can
count on to be there when I need them.
As far as my faith, I feel I am called to lead others to God by example. As a Christian I feel a
relationship with God is the most important relationship one can have. There are many different ways
to express Christianity and bring people into a relationship with God. One thing I talked about in my
journals is that while going to church is important, I don t think it s the most important part of my
faith. To me I feel the most comfortable expressing my faith by leading by example. I am not very
good at talking about my faith, so I try living my life in a way that expresses my Christianity through
actions rather than words. In my journals, I have discussed several different ways I live out my faith
such as; building positive relationships, volunteering, using the talents God gave me, and being there
for others.
The journal prompts about our beliefs really got me think about what I believe about finances.
Through talking about my beliefs, I discovered it is important to me to give back to others when I am
able. One way that I can do this is by creating a budget that sets aside money each month to donate to
a cause. I think it is important we use the resources that God gave us to help all his people.

Case Study Of Yue Sai
When marketing their brand Yue Sai should keep in mind that China is not one single unified market,
but is actually divided into many individual sub markets. The tastes of people are different according
to the regions they live in. Yue Sai must acknowledge these regional differences in order to cater to all
the markets. The more remote, smaller regions that have less access to beauty brands could be a huge
potential market for Yue Sai to capitalize on. The second and third tier cities are growing at a faster
rate than the overall growth in China and are predicted to continue this positive growth in the future
(Koehler, 2013).
The majority of Yue Sai s customers would be from South China as they have the highest purchasing

Health Care Reform For The United States
Many ways are used to measure how much Americans values life. Obviously, good health is a major
factor of being happy and satisfied with an Americans life. People also place family and friends very
high on the list of value for health care insurance. Health care has become the stress to every person s
life. Health care controls everything a person does due to the drawbacks of not having it when it is
necessary; like breaking an arm or coming down with a deathly illness. With these issues, it is said
that reforms are on their way. Health care reform will be on the agenda for future sessions of
Congress, because the economic pressures of rising health care costs on the federal government,
business, and individuals are not going to abate (King). Health care has become a pain for many
reasons. It takes up time, money, and security. Having health care in the United States is a necessity;
without this many hospitals do not admit a patient or, if done so, the patient becomes flooded with
bills for everything. But just because health care is a necessity in the United States does not mean it
comes easily. With so much that goes into health care, loads of information and research must be
gathered; to understand health care and why one must have information on health care history,
information about human rights in regards of health care, what other forms of health care are out there,
price of health care, Americans opinion on American health care, and many more items that health

The Effect Of Heat Transmission On The Heat
Introduction:
Heat transmission is the process through which heat is transferred in swap of thermal energy that
exists between the physical systems, depending on the pressure and temperature by dissipating heat.
The essential modes of transferring the heat are convection, conduction or diffusion and radiation.
Heat is transferred from region of high temperature to low temperature region.
1.0 Heat transfer
The various modes of heat transfer are as follows:
1.1 Conduction: Conduction mode of heat transfer is the process in which transfer of energy is taken
place between the objects that are having the physical existence. In this process heat is spreads
through a matter when faster molecules and atoms run over with the slower neighboring atoms and
molecules. Faster atoms and molecule can transfer their little energy known as kinetic energy to the
slower ones. Conduction is also known as diffusion.
1.2 Convection Convection is also a fundamental mode of transferring the heat. In this process heat is
transferred from one place to another through the movement of fluids. Fluids are those substance
which are not having any fixed shape. These substances include liquid and gas state of matter.
(edinformatics.com, 2015)
1.3 Radiation In the previous forms of heat transfer modes heat is transferred from one place to
another or from one substance to another. But in radiation electromagnetic waves are involved in the
transfer of heats. In this process no particular substance or

The Importance Of Stage Directions In Shakespeare s Romeo...
In the very beginning of Act 1, Scene 1 of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, there is a fight between
the Montagues and the Capulets servants about them biting their thumbs at each other; biting their
thumbs at each other was a sign of disrespect. The variations in the intonation, tones, and stage
directions in the four different variations of the scene, show the viewer or the audience how differently
they were created and how each director has different ideas about how it should look and sound. They
had different ideas about how to show the emotions of the characters. The stage directions in the first
scene by George Cukor are pretty general. They show how the characters do have a rivalry with each
other. During the fight, you could tell that each person had different directions to follow during the
fight. During the second scene by Alvin Rakoff, they had more emotion in their actions, which you
could tell was through their stage directions. The director had a different idea about the part when

The History of Mail and the Postal System
History of Mail Mail is a system of transporting documents and small packages or even written
messages such as seasonal greetings and other. The first documentation of a mail service is dated back
to Egypt when the pharaohs used carriers to send their decrees of territories. Persia was the first to
have a real postal system which dates to Cyrus the Great at 550 BC. They used stations (Chapar

denied him basic civil rights was too much. James Thompson wrote to the Pittsburg Courier, and
asked Should I sacrifice to live half American? The newspaper responded by calling for a Double V
campaign. The campaign borrowed on the well known two finger V for Victory salute from Winston
Churchill. The paper proclaimed that blacks should work for the victory of democracy both at home
and abroad. The Double V campaign caught on. Civil rights leaders such as A. Philip Randolph saw
the unique situation created by World War II and the acute need for workers as an opportunity to
demand equality. In 1941 Randolph threatened President Roosevelt with a 100,000 person march on
Washington, D.C., to protest job discrimination. In response, Roosevelt issued Executive Order 8802,
prohibiting discrimination in defense jobs or the government. On the home front, the U.S. government
desperately needed workers to fill newly created defense jobs and factory positions left open by
soldiers who had left to fight. More than two million African Americans went to work for defense
plants, and another two million joined the federal civil service. As these new opportunities drew more
and more African Americans into cities, they opened the way for economic mobility. As the war
dragged on, it affected American society at nearly every level. It shook up

Theories Of Pragmatics
Why are there so many theories in pragmatics concerning meaning in language? Why is the study of
language use crucial to understanding meaning in language? How does the development over time of
the main theories in pragmatics show a greater understanding of language use? Introduction First of
all, what do we understand with meaning? What is it? Meaning seems like a very straightforward
concept but it is very obscure indeed. As human beings we are designed to acquire meaning from the
world, it allows us make a conceptualization of the world. It is the most important feature of language,
as the main purpose of language is to communicate with each other, in other words, to know what we
mean . This looks quite straightforward and obvious as I have mentioned before, but what makes
meaning so hard to understand is the little consciousness that we have of the knowledge and principles
that govern our communicative ability that make us humans. As Aristotle said in Politics, Man is by
nature a social animal; an individual who is unsocial naturally ... Show more content on

The term context is vast, but it can be defined as the elements that surround an utterance and
determine its meaning. The meaning of the utterances is inferred, that means that the meaning is
implicit and is interpreted subjectively which also affects to the number of interpretations that can
derive from one context. One same sentence can have two different meaning in a different context. For
instance, consider two people, Jane and Ron, who have just started dating. If Ron says to Jane at the
end of the night, I like you a lot. Jane will most likely feel great about the situation. But imagine that
Jane and Ron have been dating for some weeks now, and Jane asks, Do you love me? Now if Ron
says, I like you a lot, her reaction will most definitely be very different, as Ron s statement would be
taken as a negative

Structured Interviews
Examine the reasons why some sociologists choose to use structured interviews when conducting their
research (20 marks)
Many sociologists choose to use structured interviews when they are conducting their research,
because by having a structured interview there are a set of prepared questions that are close ended and
already have pre coded answers.
One reason why researchers choose to use structured interviews is because they are cheap, quick and
easy to do. This is because by going out and actually trying to interview the public it is quicker to get
a response from the participants and also its quicker to find out whether or not someone is willing to
take the time and answer the participants questions. It is also cheaper as you don t ... Show more

This allows them to have the choice of anonymity or not.
However structured interviews lack validity as many people lie and exaggerate this means that the
results which are produced are false. Structured interviews also suffer from inflexibility as this comes
from drawing up the questions in advance to conducting the research, this is because the researcher
has already decided what is important although this may not necessarily be what the interviewee
thinks is important.
Interpretivist don t favour structured interviews as they use s pre set structure which then means that
the interviewee can t discuss what they believe is important to them, also by not having open ended
questions it doesn t allow the interviewee to be able to express themselves in their own words.
Whereas positivists favour structured interviews as they achieve their main goals of reliability,
generalisability and representative. This is because there are standardised questions and answers
which produce reliable data as other researchers will then be able to replicate the interview. Also there
is already pre coded responses which allows for the production of quantitative data, identifying and
measuring behaviour patterns as well as establishing cause and effect relationships.
Feminists such as Hilary Graham (1983) argue that the use of survey methods like questionnaires and
structured interviews are patriarchal and therefore give an invalid view of women s experiences. She

Foreign Aid and Economic Growth in the Developing...
ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS Using cross country data, I examine how foreign aid affects economic
growth in developing countries over the period from 1975 to 2000. I find evidence that foreign aid
significantly and negatively correlates with growth in developing countries. However, foreign aid to
inland countries as well as to South Asian countries during the period of 1992 2000 is found to have a
positive impact on growth. In addition, a strong divergence trend is found among countries in the data
set. The results suggest that (i) there may be problems in the present aid providing system, where aid
hinders growth of developing countries (ii) the successful experience of some inland countries and
South Asian nations during the period of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1.3. Organization of the Study The study is organized as follows. Chapter II reviews the literature with
various outcomes shown by different authors with different views and models. Chapter III provides an
overview of the regions in the study. Chapter IV describes the data and methodology. Empirical results
and policy implications are discussed in chapter V. Chapter VI concludes the study. Chapter II
Literature Review In general, aid is found to have a positive impact on economic growth through
several mechanisms (i) aid increases investment (ii) aid increases the capacity to import capital goods
or technology (iii) aid does not have an adverse impact on investment and savings (iv) aid increases
the capital productivity and promotes endogenous technical change (Morrissey, 2001). Papanek
(1973), in a cross country regression analysis of 34 countries in the 1950s and 51 countries in
the1960s, treating foreign aid, foreign investment, other flows and domestic savings as explanatory
variables, finds that foreign aid has a substantially greater effect on growth than the other variables.
He explains that aid, unlike domestic savings, can fill the foreign exchange gap as well as the savings
gap. Unlike foreign private investment and other foreign inflows, aid is supposed to be specifically
designed to foster

How Does Washington Use Foreshadow In The Legend Of Sleepy...
First way Washington s used foreshadow in the story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow was whenever
Brom told the story about headless horse man attacking someone on the bridge. When Ichabod was
walking he remembered the story that brom was telling and got scared cause he didn t want to get
attacked in the same spot which was on the bridge. When he was walking on the bridge he saw the
headless horse man which really wasn t it was brom trying to scare him by dressing up like the
headless horse man. It was just to scare Ichabod out of town so he didn t have to worry about Ichabod
trying to get with Katrina. Broms plans worked to because Ichabod left right away out of town and
started a new life in a different town. In the story Sleep Hollow there was a lot of foreshadowing
throughout the whole story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reason it is foreshadow because Brom knows he is scared. Since brom knows he is scared he
knows he can be scared easily because he is already scared of seeing the horseman. So brom can use
that as a way to get Ichabod out of town by dressing up like the headless horseman and scaring
Ichabod right out of town so he don t have to worry about another man getting Katrina who is rich and
a daddy s girl and can get whatever she wants. So all along Brom was foreshadowing by telling a story
about someone and making them believe it and frightening them and then once he scares them he
pretty much does what he told to the person he frightened in the story which was

Business Btec Level 3
Task 1.2
What is a stake holder in a business?
A stake holder in a business is somebody that can affect or be affected by the actions of the business.
Businesses have several stake holders each. Anybody associated with a business can be a stakeholder
of that business in some way.
Who are the stake holders at Morrisons PLC?
External Stakeholders
The customers The customers of Morrisons PLC are a big stakeholder in the company. It is because of
the customers that the business is able to function. The customers are able to affect Morrisons because
if they are not happy they will not shop at Morrisons but will go to one of their competitors instead.
This will harm Morrison s profit and therefore result in a decline of the business. ... Show more

The local community does not really affect Morrisons as a whole just the areas stores. If there is only
Morrisons in the local community with a lack of main competitors such as ASDA, Tesco and
Salisbury s, then it is very likely that Morrisons will be successful because the little businesses in the
area pose little threat.
Competitors The competitors of Morrisons are one of the most important stakeholders. Tesco, ASDA,
Sainsbury s and smaller businesses such as Aldi and Lidl are the top competitors of Morrisons. They
decide many factors such as prices, location, products and services that force Morrisons to change. If a
competitor decides to lower a products price, then Morrisons will most likely have to lower the price
too. If Morrisons does not do this then the competitor will sell more products and attract more
customers, some that may be currently Morrison s shoppers. Competitors can also have an effect on
where Morrisons opens a shop. If for example there are 2 Tesco stores in an area, there is not much
sense in opening a Morrisons store nearby. If a competitor of Morrisons starts selling a product that
Morrisons currently does not, it is in Morrison s interest to also supply that product. This is the same
with a service. So if for example ASDA start delivering to a specific area, then Morrisons will most
probably do so too as this can potentially lose them many customers. If a competitor decides to launch
a big advertising campaign

The Negative Effects Of Art Therapy On Older Adults
Imagine receiving therapeutic treatment through painting, drawing, photography, music, acting,
dancing, or any other form of creative expression. Therapeutic art has been shown to have power and
influence on emotional and developmental states of individuals (Paskaleva Uzunova, 2015). In their
professional paper, researchers Paskaleva and Uzunova discuss multiple benefits of art therapy on the
body and mind. In particular, the knowledge that art acts as a non verbal communication of inner
selves, and that it has evidence of increased emotional states, moods, and ideas is of great interest.
Also, the finding that there is no significant restrictions on the positive effects of art therapy when
considering age, gender, or education level, is promising due to the possibility of far reaching effects
on a wide variety of people (Paskaleva Uzunova, 2015). This statement allows for the realization that
older adults, no matter the age, can benefit from therapeutic art interventions. Certain research looks
specifically at the effects of art therapy on older adults cognition, improvements in dementia patients
states, the decrease in symptoms for older adults suffering from depression, and the improvement of
quality of life through art intervention; from these studies, one can begin to theorize that the lives of
the elderly can be changed for the better through art.
Cognitive preservation is one of the main concern for older adults. According to Pike (2013) when

I Am Madame X by Gioia Diliberto a novel of historical fiction, based loosely on the life of Virginie
Amelie Avegno Gautreau, otherwise known as Madame X, the infamous society matron and subject of
Sargent s sexually charged 1884 Parisian Salon entry. In the novel Virginie and Pierre s marriage is a
portrayal of what love is not. There are cases of infidelity, which seems common in most marriages.
What seems like love is only mere infatuation. People in this society focus more on beauty and how
being with that person will make their reputation better, more so than the act of falling in love. The
role of marriage throughout the novel is used to empower as well as sexualize women, which says a

racial segregation within our own country. These comments had lead to the making of our own

There was a saying at the time that racism did no longer exist in Australia only in other countries such
as America but after this evidence was released soon it was recognised that racism did in fact exist in
Australia. The Australian Freedom Riders had made worldwide news about their travels and
experiences.
Once the group had finished visiting these towns and had ended their journey Charles Perkins reported
what had happened to a crowd of approximately two hundred at the 1965 Federal Council for the
Advancement of Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islands conference in Canberra. The responses after this
conference were mainly positive and because of Charles Perkins the NSW Aboriginal Welfare Board
had announced they would spend sixty five thousand pounds on more housing in Moree for the
Aboriginals. The Australian Freedom Riders had caused many debates all across Australia which had
then caused the 1967 Referendum which got rid of a law in the constitution that had stated laws can be
made for the people of any race, other than the Aboriginal race in any state, for whom it is deemed
necessary to make special laws . The law was changed and removed the section other than the
Aboriginal race this was a positive change as it meant laws could be made in favour of the Aboriginals
which could help protect them. Another positive aspect that came out of the

Rabbit Skin Robes and Blanket throughout Western North...
This article starts off by talking about the wide geographic distribution and considerable time depth of
rabbit skin robes and blankets throughout western North America. Many accounts of rabbit skin
blankets and robes suggest that they are very warm. Rabbit skin items are one of the items of material
culture that remained constant from the archaic period up into the historic period. Rabbit skin items
are mentioned in early literature of primary accounts but have been carried over into the secondary
literature. Howard Egan, a pioneer and explorer, observed Shoshone women making rabbit skin robes,
and later wrote in his diary, when hung around the neck the person so clothed can stand in a hard rain
or snow storm and not one drop of wet will pass through the robe. They are wind and rain proof and
almost cold proof (Egan 1917:238). Many accounts have been found about people making items out
of rabbit skin such as the Anasazi, Mogollon, and Hohokam. These accounts suggest that every
member of the group, regardless of sex or age, owned one to wear on cold days, to sleep in, and to be
interred in after death. These kinds of accounts came from the 1800s and early 1900s. There have been
many advances in technology have which have made it possible for us to manufacture materials that
can keep us alive in extreme environments such as the top of Mt. Everest to the depths of Antarctica.
So the question is compared to modern materials, how warm could rabbit skin robes actually have

The Pros and Cons of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance...
Introduction
Today, electronic surveillance remains one of the most effective tools the United States has to protect
against foreign powers and groups seeking to inflict harm on the nation, but it does not go without a
few possessing a few negative aspects either. Electronic surveillance of foreign intelligence has likely
saved the lives of many innocent people through prevention of potential acts of aggression towards the
United States. There are many pros to the actions authorized under the Foreign Intelligence
Surveillance Act (FISA) pertaining to electronic surveillance, but there are also cons. Looking at both
the pros and cons of electronic surveillance is important in understanding the overall effectiveness of
FISA. [1]
Definition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another pro of FISA, and the applicable amendments that followed, is the ability for electronic
surveillance to be conducted without a court order for a designated length of time to better facilitate
collection and streamline the process under USC. 1802, Sec 102. There are, of course, steps required
by high ranking officials, the President and Attorney General, which must be taken to conduct such
surveillance without a court order. Also, the criteria to conduct the surveillance is restricted
specifically to communications exclusively between foreign powers and must not include substantial
likelihood that the surveillance will acquire communications pertaining to a United States Person. [4]
While the appropriate legal process should always be followed, this provision is necessary at times to
bypass the lengthy legal process for obtaining a court order when time restrictions apply.
The Cons of FISAAuthorized Electronic Surveillance. FISA provides many other pros to the IC
pertaining to electronic surveillance as well, but it also brings with it multiple disadvantages. One of
the biggest cons is what the founders of the Act were trying so hard to avoid, the lack of balance.
Many people believe that the balance between the protection electronic surveillance provides and the
infringement on civil

Modern Day Color And Sound Motion Pictures
The desire for a sense of motion, action, and narrative (cinema s roots) stretch all the way back to
prehistory with cave drawings... In fact, the entire history of human accomplishment in the visual arts
seems to reveal a deep seated desire to represent time, space, and action visually and as vividly as
possible . (Lewis 5) Throughout history, people have exhibited a need to be entertained and a need for
hope or something to look forward to. Without anything to live for, something to strive for, life can
prove to be meaningless. From the production of cave drawings to the creation of modern day color

The invention of moving pictures began in 1875 in California when Leland Stanford, the governor of
California, got into a disagreement with a rival gambler about whether or not all four hooves of a
horse are ever off the ground at the same time. To get to the bottom of this argument, Stanford hired
Eadweard Muybridge, a British born entrepreneur and renowned photographer to set up a row of
cameras along a racetrack and capture the stages of the horses gallop with timed exposures. (Lewis 8)
This technique, known as the battery of camera technique, brought photography leaps and bonds
closer to cinema. After proving that all four hooves of a horse are indeed off the ground at the same
time, Muybridge took his series photographs on the road where he not only exhibited his work but
also talked about the technology that produced it. It was at one of these shows that Thomas Edison
met with Muybridge and became interested in producing a more sophisticated simulation of
movement on film than Muybridge s series photographs could ever have produced... He had plans to
develop a system that might sync serial images with recorded sound played back on the Edison
phonograph . (Lewis 9). After meeting with Muybridge, Edison enlisted photographer William
Kennedy Laurie Dickson to help him take technology one step further and create a camera that could
take a sequence of pictures with a single load

In association with the five permanent members (PM), this has allowed a realist hierarchy within the
UN system to be formed (Hardwick, 2011). To further demonstrate this, article 27 of the UN Charter
provides the requirements of the voting system, which states each member is entitled to vote once and
any decisions of the SC shall be made by an affirmative vote of nine of its members (Voting system
and records for the United Nations Security Council, 2016). This ensures that decisions can be acted
on rationally with the authorization to by at least nine members on the SC that has to be met before
action can be engaged.
However, a power is additionally given to the five PM that demonstrates key attributes of the SC that
does not reflect adequately in today s culture. As the creators of the UN charter granted the special
status of Permanent Member States to the five permanent nations, the PM were also given a unique
voting system, the veto power, also known as the right to veto (Voting system and records for the
United Nations Security Council, 2016). It was agreed that how the veto would operate is that any of
the five PM s disagrees on a vote in the 15 member SC, the action or decision would not be approved
and would have to be readdressed by the Council at a later date or rejected. According to Deplano
(n.d.) since individual resolutions of the SC do not set a precedent, what constitutes a threat to or

Argumentative Essay On Interracial Relationships
Back then there were slave masters and slaves. These were the horrible ages of the past. Then later
came segregation and the civil rights movement. Still, racial tension increased. Consequently, after
different generations of both black and white people, they were all born with a burden into this world.
These generations were eventually born into a society with the burdens of their ancestors. The fight
against oppression and racism. Recently in the United States, there are many that believe we can all
come together and live happily. These people usually pursue interracial relationships. Regardless of
our history, we should be able to marry or date outside of our race. Does it pose a threat to either side?
No, it does not. People need to think of it as gaining knowledge about other people. It s an exchange
of true love and an exchange of culture that satisfies the relationship.
Interracial relationships have always been controversial. Whether it is about families disapproving of
the other individual or because of the different backgrounds that contain large amounts of racial
tension. In modern US society, interracial relationships are viewed as very disputable. There are two
different sides, which are those who accept it and others that completely oppose it. However,
interracial relationships should be more accepted today because there is a lot more to gain.
Have you ever seen an interracial couple while you were just strolling down the street? Or seen a
mixed looking child? That proves that interracial marriages are becoming more abundant and
universal every day. In 2015, there were 11 million couples that consisted of many other races
including black, Asian and white (Kristen Bialik Key facts about race and marriage, 50 years after
Loving v. Virginia ).
In 1967, it was finally legal for any couple consisting of two different races to get married (by the U.S.
Supreme court). This law showed Americans that it s totally okay to be from two completely different
races and live happily together. Additionally, in the 1990 s, it helped deteriorate the seperation of
blacks and whites. In 1963 they obtained help from the American Civil Liberties Union, which
unsuccessfully sought to reverse their convictions in

  • 3. Homeland Security Bill The homeland security bill meets the prevention portion of the preparedness cycle by mitigation, which provides the necessary capabilities to reduce loss of life and property by lessening the impact of disasters (Cordner, 2016) mainly through collaboration, in addition to information sharing, threat recognition, target hardening or risk management, and intervention (Pelfrey, 2012). This applies to terrorism and transnational crime (intentional acts by people), with hopes to prevent a number of those acts from occurring; and preventing or reducing harm from natural disasters (hurricanes, tornados, and earthquakes) by introducing preventive measures, such as people taking the proper precautions and upgrading buildings. Environmental Consciousness Paper Hope Allen Replies to Tiffany Shawn Liberty University BMAL 560 Dr. Henry Tiffany, Good post on defining environmental consciousness, you mentioned scientist and scholars alike understands and in need of people who put more thought into how products are manufactured. You gave good examples listed in your paper. You mentioned it is about having awareness of what an individual is putting in the environment. You mentioned a solider didn t have the accessible resources to connect with he/she family, but in today s society that option is available for Skype to visually connect over the internet. I found the internet of things has a major impact in our future of mankind and on the daily life of the individuals, we are part of a world where everything has the potential to be connected. As a matter of fact, it is estimated by garner that by 2020, the installed base for the internet of things will exceed 212 billion and will be over 30 billion of connected things (Hucanu Georgescu, 2016). The examples of the soldier, gospel, virtually around the world were great examples that you incorporated in your paper. I agree it s important to protect the copyright laws. You mentioned individual earning royalty for their music and it s important to ensure copyright with the music. I found this to be true because Copyright in a song is different from many other works. Each song holds two copyrights: a copyright in the sand recording and a copyright in the musical composition (Conte, 2017). Fischer explains how we should follow rules and it shows respect. • 5. Essay on the Structure of William Faulkner s A Rose for... The Structure of A Rose for Emily William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily is a story that uses flashbacks to foreshadow a surprise ending. The story begins with the death of a prominent old woman, Emily, and finishes with the startling discovery that Emily as been sleeping with the corpse of her lover, whom she murdered, for the past forty years. The middle of the story is told in flashbacks by a narrator who seems to represent the collective memory of an entire town. Within these flashbacks, which jump in time from ten years past to forty years past, are hidden clues which prepare the reader for the unexpected ending, such as hints of Emily s insanity, her odd behavior concerning the deaths of loved ones, and the evidence that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the people of the town try to explain away her odd behavior, they did not say she was crazy then (paragraph 28). This implies that although at that time she wasn t considered insane, and although the narrator never states so directly, there will come a time when she will be. An important idiosyncrasy of Emily s that will help the reader to understand the bizarre finale of the story, is her apparent inability to cope with the death of someone she cared for. When deputies were sent to recover back taxes from Emily, she directed them to Colonel Sartoris, an ex mayor that had told her she would never have to pay taxes, and a man that had been dead for ten years. Years before this incident, however, after her father had died, she continued to act has if he had not, and only allowed his body to be removed when threatened with legal action. Considering the fate of her lover s corpse, one suspects she would have kept her father s corpse also, had the town not known of his death. Littered throughout the story is evidence that the murder took place. When Emily takes up with Homer Barron, a man whom the narrator makes clear was not the marrying kind; rumors start to fly about the two at a time when it was not considered proper for a man and woman to live together. The town, her relatives, and the Baptist minister disapproved of the relationship, and Emily was in danger of loosing Homer. In a book, What Does China Think? by Mark Leonard, the battle of ideas in China is being introduced and shown to the readers; many opinions and assertions on Chinese reforms within economic and political perspectives are being discussed to find ways that China should pursue. The author conjures up that China has grown into a huge economic power, exemplifying the numerous amount of Chinese products which are labeled with Made in China . One Chinese thinker, Zhang Weiying, formulated the idea of dual track pricing with introducing an allegory, called the village of zebras . In the story of the allegory, elders in a village argued endlessly that their village s horses were better than the neighboring zebras. However, they found out that the zebras were actually superior to their horses. Realizing the reality, the elders confronted and worried about one problem; their villagers were too accustomed to the horses, resulting from the previous elders argument, so that embracing the zebras would be difficult for them. Hence, the elders created a plan; they painted their horses with strips every night while other villagers were sleeping. When villagers found out and shocked about the zebras, the elders assured that those zebras were actually their own horses that were painted with stripes. Finally, all the villagers became accustomed with the zebras; the replacement was successful. By implying this allegory, Weiying argued that dual track pricing would help to promote China s economic growth without implementing new idea suddenly. Dual track pricing is an idea that publishes market prices and state controlled prices simultaneously. Increasing the ratio of the market prices, the state controlled prices could be replaced. Accordingly, most Chinese thinkers advocated that the gradual change would work more appropriately and effectively than the sudden change for the economic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Triangle Theory Of Love Essay The theories of love covered many components and view about what love is, what drives us to want someone and also what brings someone to committing to that significant other for the long run. One theory that I found to be the most helpful in categorizing love and explaining what makes a person want to find love in the first place was the Sternberg s Triangular Theory of Love. Sternberg s Triangle Theory of Love have three points in the triangular shape which are decision/commitment, intimacy and passion. Decision and commitment is when a person consciously make the decision to do thing for the relationship and invest time into the relationship for better or worse. The person at this time is in total awareness and in control of what they would like to do in the relationship and where they would want to lead it in the future. Passion is when our partner reciprocates our passion or lust for them through kissing or making love. Intimacy is where we have become very emotionally invested in our partner expressing ourselves through communication. This theory is one that shows that couples can be a match or mismatch, but show points to where they are very compatible. I thought this theory on love was the most meaningful and useful to me because it is simplistic for understanding and to being able to test it in real life. I believe that as a person seeking out for love, you want to probably go through the three points on the triangle that Sternberg has described. I believe that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jackson did many things during his presidency that should are dishonorable, such as supporting the Indian Removals, or kicking qualified people out of his office to make room for his friends in the government. Even though many people believe he was the people s president and stood for democracy, we should not be applauding a president that supported discrimination and slavery during his time in office. As far as my faith, I feel I am called to lead others to God by example. As a Christian I feel a relationship with God is the most important relationship one can have. There are many different ways to express Christianity and bring people into a relationship with God. One thing I talked about in my journals is that while going to church is important, I don t think it s the most important part of my faith. To me I feel the most comfortable expressing my faith by leading by example. I am not very good at talking about my faith, so I try living my life in a way that expresses my Christianity through actions rather than words. In my journals, I have discussed several different ways I live out my faith such as; building positive relationships, volunteering, using the talents God gave me, and being there for others. The journal prompts about our beliefs really got me think about what I believe about finances. Through talking about my beliefs, I discovered it is important to me to give back to others when I am able. One way that I can do this is by creating a budget that sets aside money each month to donate to a cause. I think it is important we use the resources that God gave us to help all his people. Obviously, good health is a major factor of being happy and satisfied with an Americans life. People also place family and friends very high on the list of value for health care insurance. Health care has become the stress to every person s life. Health care controls everything a person does due to the drawbacks of not having it when it is necessary; like breaking an arm or coming down with a deathly illness. The essential modes of transferring the heat are convection, conduction or diffusion and radiation. Heat is transferred from region of high temperature to low temperature region. 1.0 Heat transfer The various modes of heat transfer are as follows: 1.1 Conduction: Conduction mode of heat transfer is the process in which transfer of energy is taken place between the objects that are having the physical existence. In this process heat is spreads through a matter when faster molecules and atoms run over with the slower neighboring atoms and molecules. Faster atoms and molecule can transfer their little energy known as kinetic energy to the slower ones. Conduction is also known as diffusion. 1.2 Convection Convection is also a fundamental mode of transferring the heat. In this process heat is transferred from one place to another through the movement of fluids. Fluids are those substance which are not having any fixed shape. These substances include liquid and gas state of matter. (edinformatics.com, 2015) 1.3 Radiation In the previous forms of heat transfer modes heat is transferred from one place to another or from one substance to another. In the very beginning of Act 1, Scene 1 of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, there is a fight between the Montagues and the Capulets servants about them biting their thumbs at each other; biting their thumbs at each other was a sign of disrespect. The variations in the intonation, tones, and stage directions in the four different variations of the scene, show the viewer or the audience how differently they were created and how each director has different ideas about how it should look and sound. They had different ideas about how to show the emotions of the characters. The stage directions in the first scene by George Cukor are pretty general. They show how the characters do have a rivalry with each other. During the fight, you could tell that each person had different directions to follow during the fight. Black joined the military in large numbers, escaping a decade of Depression and tenant farming in the South and Midwest. Yet, like the rest of America in the 1940s, the armed forces were segregated. The Army accepted black enlistees but created separate black infantry regiments and assigned white commanders to them. The campaign borrowed on the well known two finger V for Victory salute from Winston Churchill. The paper proclaimed that blacks should work for the victory of democracy both at home and abroad. The Double V campaign caught on. Civil rights leaders such as A. Philip Randolph saw the unique situation created by World War II and the acute need for workers as an opportunity to demand equality. In 1941 Randolph threatened President Roosevelt with a 100,000 person march on Washington, D.C., to protest job discrimination. In response, Roosevelt issued Executive Order 8802, prohibiting discrimination in defense jobs or the government. How does the development over time of the main theories in pragmatics show a greater understanding of language use? Introduction First of all, what do we understand with meaning? What is it? Meaning seems like a very straightforward concept but it is very obscure indeed. As human beings we are designed to acquire meaning from the world, it allows us make a conceptualization of the world. It is the most important feature of language, as the main purpose of language is to communicate with each other, in other words, to know what we mean . This looks quite straightforward and obvious as I have mentioned before, but what makes meaning so hard to understand is the little consciousness that we have of the knowledge and principles that govern our communicative ability that make us humans. Structured Interviews Examine the reasons why some sociologists choose to use structured interviews when conducting their research (20 marks) Many sociologists choose to use structured interviews when they are conducting their research, because by having a structured interview there are a set of prepared questions that are close ended and already have pre coded answers. One reason why researchers choose to use structured interviews is because they are cheap, quick and easy to do. This is because by going out and actually trying to interview the public it is quicker to get a response from the participants and also its quicker to find out whether or not someone is willing to take the time and answer the participants questions. It is also cheaper as you don t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This allows them to have the choice of anonymity or not. However structured interviews lack validity as many people lie and exaggerate this means that the results which are produced are false. Structured interviews also suffer from inflexibility as this comes from drawing up the questions in advance to conducting the research, this is because the researcher has already decided what is important although this may not necessarily be what the interviewee thinks is important. Interpretivist don t favour structured interviews as they use s pre set structure which then means that the interviewee can t discuss what they believe is important to them, also by not having open ended questions it doesn t allow the interviewee to be able to express themselves in their own words. Whereas positivists favour structured interviews as they achieve their main goals of reliability, generalisability and representative. This is because there are standardised questions and answers which produce reliable data as other researchers will then be able to replicate the interview. Also there is already pre coded responses which allows for the production of quantitative data, identifying and measuring behaviour patterns as well as establishing cause and effect relationships. Feminists such as Hilary Graham (1983) argue that the use of survey methods like questionnaires and structured interviews are patriarchal and therefore give an invalid view of women s experiences. However, foreign aid to inland countries as well as to South Asian countries during the period of 1992 2000 is found to have a positive impact on growth. Competitors The competitors of Morrisons are one of the most important stakeholders. Tesco, ASDA, Sainsbury s and smaller businesses such as Aldi and Lidl are the top competitors of Morrisons. Therapeutic art has been shown to have power and influence on emotional and developmental states of individuals (Paskaleva Uzunova, 2015). In their professional paper, researchers Paskaleva and Uzunova discuss multiple benefits of art therapy on the body and mind. In particular, the knowledge that art acts as a non verbal communication of inner selves, and that it has evidence of increased emotional states, moods, and ideas is of great interest. Also, the finding that there is no significant restrictions on the positive effects of art therapy when considering age, gender, or education level, is promising due to the possibility of far reaching effects on a wide variety of people (Paskaleva Uzunova, 2015). This statement allows for the realization that older adults, no matter the age, can benefit from therapeutic art interventions. Certain research looks specifically at the effects of art therapy on older adults cognition, improvements in dementia patients states, the decrease in symptoms for older adults suffering from depression, and the improvement of quality of life through art intervention; from these studies, one can begin to theorize that the lives of the elderly can be changed for the better through art. This article starts off by talking about the wide geographic distribution and considerable time depth of rabbit skin robes and blankets throughout western North America. Many accounts of rabbit skin blankets and robes suggest that they are very warm. Rabbit skin items are one of the items of material culture that remained constant from the archaic period up into the historic period. Rabbit skin items are mentioned in early literature of primary accounts but have been carried over into the secondary literature. Howard Egan, a pioneer and explorer, observed Shoshone women making rabbit skin robes, and later wrote in his diary, when hung around the neck the person so clothed can stand in a hard rain or snow storm and not one drop of wet will pass through the robe.
