The first theme has a bold and majestic feel to it, with the trumpets and horns declaring it. The overall
feeling is much more positive than what was seen earlier and gives a sense that the performance is
coming to a major conclusion. The crescendos are followed usually by the winds, especially the
clarinet, and play at a much softer tone. Once again the timpani plays a large role in adding to the
crescendos and the brass play louder than they have throughout the entire piece. The performance
comes to a conclusion with the full orchestra playing theme 1, and lastly with the woodwinds bringing

There were actually two parts in this piece that I enjoyed the most. The first was the melody played by
the English horn in the second movement. It contrasted the dark mood of the first movement very well
while also being a very soothing melody on its own. It reminded me most of the type of music found
in the Lord of the Rings film adaptations. I also really enjoyed the crescendo in the third movement
and how Dvorak was able to build up to that moment. I felt the brass and percussion were able to

The time in which I was born was very different than the one my parents had to live in when they
were children. I was born in a small town in Colombia, where no more than a hundred families lived.
The entire population of my hometown was Catholic. There was a small chapel next to my house and
the priest went there once a month to celebrate Mass. He and the seminarians stayed at our home,
when they went for the Holy Week and Christmas missions. On Saturdays, my brother and I went to a
town an hour away afoot or 20 minutes on a horse, to have further studies. Ninety percent of that town

cultural relativists. One of the six claims that Rachels presents in section 2.2 of the article is that

examples of the differences that can be found in moral codes of different people groups throughout

The classic Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings song Mammas, Don t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be
Cowboys tells the sad, but familiar story of men growing up and leaving their families for reasons
they do not fully comprehend. It is the women, however, in the novel The Underdogs, by Mariano
Azuela, that understand this all too well. In The Underdogs, the author depicts Northern Mexican
villages overrun by the Mexican Revolution sending impromptu soldiers to fight the war, leaving few
citizens left behind with essentially nothing. Azuela paints a picture of the tremendous pressure put on
the citizens of Northern Mexico during the Revolution and we see this through his descriptions of
massive casualties and families feeling incredible pain due to the absence of their loved ones
everyday. Azuela uses this wartime atmosphere to describe how important women in Mexico were at
this time and their significance during the Mexican Revolution. Although degradation and
manipulation of women are quite obvious themes throughout the story, we see that the women of
Mexico played a major role in the Mexican Revolution, whether they fought in the battles themselves,
or were just a fading memory in a soldier s mind.

Monae s Metropolis Saga uses the cyborg as a metaphor for the oppressed, using cyborg bodies as a

to [her] represents the other in our society. (Kot 1) This is made specific to blackness when, in the
Metropolis Saga, Cindi time travels to the 20th and 21st centuries and is reborn as Janelle Monae,

If for Monae, black bodies are cyborg bodies, cyborg bodies have existed throughout history and
cannot be situated solely in the future. Consequently, Metropolis as a city centered around Cindi s
black cyborg body cannot be temporally alienated from history, and must reckon with it. More than
that, though, Metropolis itself is not just a vision of the future but of the past, a transhistorical
metaphor of oppression and liberation. This differs from traditional science fiction cyborg
representations because for Haraway and many others, the cyborg exists within a future world.
However, for Monae, the cyborg has always existed in the form of black bodies, and the science
fiction world serves only to illuminate this. Accordingly, the transhistoricality is the only way that a
cyborg can be raced and allows a raced cyborg to recognize and grapple with the dark history that
birthed it for Cindi, this means time traveling to literally participate in, change, and solve her history.
Perhaps this is best expressed by the name of Monae s upcoming album, presumably containing the
last two suites of the Metropolis Saga, Dirty Computer. The computer is the android; however, the
android retains its dirt, the dirt being the dark and dirty history of racializations and blackness her
