The Federal Bureau Of Investigations
Matt Fox Mr. Huggins U.S. History 21 November, 2014 The FBI The Federal Bureau of
Investigations was initially a group of secret agents created in 1908 by Attorney General Charles
Bonaparte. Bonaparte created the FBI under direction of 26th president, Theodore Roosevelt. For the
first couple of years, the amount of federal crimes was very low. The Bureau spent most of their time
investigating things such as national banking, bankruptcy, naturalization, antitrust, peonage, and land
fraud. In June of 1910, the FBI grew larger because the Mann Act. The Mann Act made it a crime to
transport women to other states for immoral reasons such as what would be labeled as prostitution in
modern terms. The FBI could now prosecute people who tried to flee over states lines. Because of its
continued worth and effectiveness, the FBI s number grew to over 300 special agents and 300 support
employees over the next few years. (FBI. FBI, 08 May 2013. Web. 02 Nov. 2014) When The FBI first
started, it required little to know specific training. However, it was a group of undercover agents at the
time so there weren t very many kids who wanted to grow up and become something that they have
never even heard about. Today, however, there are a series of long and challenging tests to become an
FBI Agent. In order to qualify for the FBI s Academy in Quantico, Virginia, there are four tests that
have to be passed. (FBI. FBI, 08 May 2013. Web. 02 Nov. 2014) The First is the Physical Fitness Test.

The Life And Work Of Joseph Stalin
Joseph Stalin, leader of Russia (1928 1953), created a Five Year Plan that included methods and goals
which were detrimental to Russian agriculture in 1928. Stalin wanted to transform individual farms
into large collective farms because he saw that the government was losing money to private traders.
This required that the majority of farmers would have to work and live together on large state run
farms. Through these farms Stalin hoped to increase agricultural productivity, to create grain reserves
for Russia, and to free many peasants for industrial work in the cities. In order to begin
collectivization Stalin had about 5 million wealthier peasants, or kulaks, deported and/or killed and
their equipment and livestock sent to collective farms.

In modern theory, an organization is defined as a designed and structured process in which individuals
interact for objectives (Hicks Gullet, 1997) Modern Theory has three different Approaches: 1. The
systems approach: it views the inter connectedness between several components such as, individual,
environment, communication, balancing and decision analyzing as the goal of organization as well. 2.
Socio technical approach: it is based on technical system and environment of organization. An
organization uses tools and techniques on producing their products to make the organization more
effective technologically. 3. Contingency or situational approach: it is based on inter relating to the
environment. When different environments require different organizational relationships for maximum
effectiveness in correlation with social. Legal, political, technical and economic factors.(refer to

Interview With The Vampire Essay
SYNOPSIS The movie I chose for this paper is Interview with the Vampire. This movie starts out with
Louis, Brad Pitt, seeking out an eager journalist to write his story. Louis s story begins with his
transition from human to vampire; the one who turns him is a vampire named Lestat, Tom Cruise.
They start their undead life together as a companionship. They experience many endeavours, girls, and
cities. In one town ridden with the black plague, Louis finds a young girl, Kirsten Dunst. She is
grieving for her lost mother and Louis decides to take care of her. Lestat then makes the decision to
transform her into a vampire and have his own little family. Many conflicts arise between Louis,
Lestat, and their new daughter Claudia.Though in the end, a new beginning starts.
ANALYSIS Interview with the Vampire, directed by Neil Jordan, is the story of an experienced
vampire and his eternity on Earth. This film was very intricate and complex. It starts off from the
beginning and captures the viewer s attention immediately. The layup of ... Show more content on

His biological parents died while he in his 20 s. When Lestat found him, he gave him a new meaning
to life. Eventually, they gained a daughter of sorts. The three of them lived happily, but not for long.
Shortly after Claudia s hair rage, she fed Lestat dead human blood to kill him. When that did not quite
do the trick, she slit his neck; forcing Louis to then gather Lestat s body and throw it in a river. Louis
had lost his best friend of many centuries. Claudia and Louis had traveled in search of more of their
kind. This proved to be not the best for Louis family. After a rage from the head vampire Armand, he
killed Claudia and a women they had just turned by burning them alive. This is when Louis burned the
theater to the ground. Louis family has been destroyed many times throughout his life. Inevitably,

Women s Rights After 1848 Research Paper
In the year of 1848, about 240 men and women combines attended the Seneca Falls Convention. They
voted for decisions that demanded equality for women at work, at school, and at church. There was
only one decision at the convention that met with any resistance, and this was demanding the women a
right to vote. But, after hesitation and bold reformers, the decision nearly passed. After 1848, women
worked for change in many areas. They fought for additional legal rights in some states and won the
battle. For instance, in New York, the city passed a laws allowing married women to keep their own
property and wages once they married. Although this law passed, many men and women opposed the
women s rights movements and the struggle for equal rights

Fermat s Last Theorem Research Paper
Fermat s Last Theorem Pierre de Fermat, born in 1601, hailed by many as the king of amateurs , was a
French lawyer and mathematics hobbyist. In the margin of his copy of Diophantus Arithmetica, he
scribbled a note that would perplex and puzzle event the greatest mathematicians for the next 350
years. In this margin, Fermat wrote that there were no positive integers that can fill in x, y, and z of
xn+yn=zn, where n represents a number higher than two. This equation was based on Pythagorean
triples, infinite triplets of numbers that could satisfy the equation xn+yn=zn where n represents 2. the
problem arose when Fermat noted that, I have found a truly marvelous demonstration of this
proposition which this margin is too narrow to contain. This supposed proof was never revealed. This
was not strange for Fermat, as he had a reputation of concealing his proof in order to frustrate his
colleagues, and in Arithmetica, he frequently left out his proof. The thing that made this particular
equation stand out was the fact that after Fermat s death in 1665 and the posthumous publishing of his
Arithmetica, all other marginal conjectures were verified while this last ... Show more content on

William Shakespeare s The Restoration Period
Throughout history there have different styles of comedy that inherit different aspects of society
during that time. During the Restoration period, there is one author who stands out from the rest and is
known as the father of comedy of manners and that author is Molliere. One of his most notable pieces
of work was the Misanthrope; thats core principles are based on the comedy of manners. The
fundamentals of the comedy of manners often have a multiple consistencies that are true to most plays
written during that time. It s sole purpose is to get a satirical perspective at the life, manners and social
aspect of the upper class and aristocrats. Itt is considered high comedy due to the fact that it creates a
critical perspective of the life of the upper classes, unlike low comedy which serves no other purpose
than to create laughter. Plays which use comedy of manners often poke fun at the character s outlooks
on life, their manners toward each other and their view toward lower social classes. In general the
characters of plays/books during this time have very generic roles such as the fool, hypocrite, the
jealous lover, ect... Additionally the plots of these plays usually are surrounding a complicated love
situation that puts a few characters in conflict with each other. These principles are true to plays
written during that time, especially Moliere s Misanthrope which represent the core beliefs of the
comedy of manners. The main characters in the Misanthrope embody the main

Rhetorical Devices Used In A Change To Come By Gcse
Sam Cooke, A Change is Gonna Come
Heralded by many as the anthem to the Civil Rights Movement, A Change is Gonna Come by Sam
Cooke was and still is one of the most influential songs of all time. The song was originally released
in 1964 on the album Ain t That Good News , but was released again as a single eleven days after Sam
Cooke s untimely death on the 11th of December, 1964.
There is no other social movement so effected by pop culture in the last century than the black Civil
Rights Movement in America during the 1960s. The music at the time had political motivation and yet
it was still enjoyed widely as pop music. Sam Cooke was one of the few African American artists of
his generation to successfully crossover and reach both a white and black audience. In the midst of the
Civil Rights Movement, Cooke was wary to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He sings; I go to the movie and I go down town/Somebody keep telling me don t hang around ,
referring, of course, to the incident in the Louisiana. This lyric, while seeming innocuous, spoke to all
of his coloured fans as it was a situation they were all to familiar with. The middle eight, which reads;
Then I go to my brother / And I say, Brother, help me please. / But he winds up knockin me / Back
down on my knees. , is a phrase highlighting the aggression the movement received from the police
force during their marches. The very people meant to protect and serve ended up being one of the
biggest obstacles to overcome during the notorious peace walks. Despite the air of anguish
throughout, it is a song of hope. The famed lyrics; It s been a long, a long time coming / But I know a
change gon come , that appear at the end of every verse, are the bones on which the whole song is
built. Even after Cooke s death, this message remained one of positivity and aspiration. His epitaph
became a crutch for the movement to lean on instead of another reminder of all they have

Platos Meno Essay
The dialogue opens up with Meno asking what virtue is and whether it could be taught. Socrates asks
Meno for a general definition of virtue, since as Socrates points out, we cannot figure out if virtue can
be taught if we do not have a clear idea what it is. Socrates is looking for a general, or formal
definition of virtue, not just examples or instances of it. Socrates wants to know what all the examples
of virtue have in common. He wants to know the essence of virtue. Meno initially offers a list of
virtues, but Socrates rejects this as a sufficient account. Meno also states that there are different virtues
for everyone. The virtue of a man is to order a state and the virtue of a woman is to order a household.
I believe that virtue can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, it needs to be determined if virtue is a kind of knowledge. Then if it is, we can conclude it can be
taught. And if virtue is not knowledge, thus concluding it cannot be taught. Socrates argues that virtue
is knowledge, but then he changes course abruptly at and begins to argue the other side. Socrates
points out there are teachers for medicine, priesthood and so on; everybody agrees that these are
genuine teachers, whereas people disagree about whether the Sophists really do teach virtue. Maybe
this again is because virtue cannot be taught.
Neither of the early questions whether virtue is knowledge, whether virtue can be taught, the nature of
virtue itself are answered. We arrive at some clarity about the unexpected issue of the nature and
importance of knowledge. Knowledge is justified as true belief. You need to be able to explain and
support your true belief because otherwise this knowledge will escape form the mind. Socrates uses
the slave boy to demonstrate the process of recollection by asking him questions about a geometrical
problem. Socrates has shown that there exists an additional cognitive state that can guide one much in
the same way as one guided by knowledge. This state is the state of true opinion. Although true
opinion is always true, it is fleeting and impermanent.
I believe virtue is anything that may be advantageous in one s own way. It may be good, it may be bad

What Is Sleep Paralysis
SLEEP PARALYSIS RESEARCH PAPER
Sleep paralysis has a history that stretches over centuries, with a vast array of people experiencing it.
Some believe they have been visited by demons, or aliens in the night and attribute such events to
witchcraft or Satanism. There are references to folklore from every nation throughout history. The
Nightmare, is a painting by Henry Fuselli that dates to 1781, and depicts a chilling sleep paralysis
incidence. In this painting, a malicious spirit sits on a man s chest while the victim lies there limp and
unable to fight back. The cultural and spiritual implications of this phenomena is unique amongst
neurological ailments. Isolated sleep paralysis (ISP) is the inability to move or talk during the
transition between sleep and wakefulness, accompanied by auditory and visual hallucinations that are
often extremely hostile. These hallucinations can include a wicked existence in the room, an
impression of being touched, or hearing voices in the room. Some people see faces at the bedside.
This is typically accompanied by a perceived breathlessness. Patients describe the experience as
petrifying. Episodes tend to be more recurrent when sleeping in the supine position. ISP usually
happens when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people have entered sleep paralysis directly from lucid dreaming or entered lucid dreaming
from a state of sleep paralysis. The indications are that people who are experiencing both patterns are
also undergoing a greater dissociative experience in daily life. In lucid dreaming the dreamer is aware
that they are dreaming and is therefore able to control the dream. These dreams are characterized by
increased insight, and even access to waking memories. This dissociate experience is generally
positive and can leave the dreamer feeling blissful. These are directly inverted from the intruder and

Why I Want To Be A Society Of Trout Persuasive Essay
I would like to participate in the Society of Fellows because I am a lover of philosophy and it seems as
if the Society of Fellows mix topics that intrigue me into one program, which is a great fit for me. The
Society of Fellows examines the American Constitution, the same way my Constitutional Rights class
discusses it, it asks more of people than to just know what the American Constitution says, but also
asks what it means, and how that meaning of particular words has changed over time. This is the
reason I am ecstatic about the program, being able to be a part of a program that looks at the
Constitution in ways many do not try to. Also, to be able to belong to a program that does this a
wonderful experience to have. Society of Fellows dissects the Constitution, and this is something I
have always wanted to do with a group of individuals who has the same excitement level as I do while
doing it. These are the reasons I would like to participate in the Society of Fellows.
I expect to contribute my knowledge in discussions and my different view points on certain topics and

Organic Chemistry 344
Section 803
Fall 2011
Objective: The purpose of this experiment was to synthesize adipic acid from cyclohexanol via an
oxidation reaction that was catalyzed by sulfuric acid. Purity of the product was assessed by
measuring the melting point.
Physical Properties/Structures:

The oxidation reaction between cyclohexanol and sulfuric acid was successful in that it did in fact
yield the adipic acid product but unsuccessful in the amount that was yielded, with a percent yield of
only 35.0%. This yield may have been low due to both experimental and technical errors. One of the
major causes of the low yield most likely had to do with the fact that the temperature went below
55.00C and above 65.00C during certain points of the reaction. When the reaction temperature goes
above 65.00C, it causes the yield of adipic acid to be lower due to further oxidation. When the
reaction temperature goes below 55.00C, it causes the yield of adipic acid to be lower due to the fact
that the amount of energy is not high enough to activate oxidation of the reaction. Some of the product
also most likely was lost during both the crystallization and recrystallization process. Since adipic acid
is somewhat water soluble, some of the product most likely moved with the water that was used to
rinse it through the filter out of the Buchner funnel during vacuum filtration. This error could have
been reduced had the

Grout College Essay
HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT GROUT FOR YOUR TILE
Choosing a different grout color for your tile can add a touch of elegance or a distinct modern flair to
your design.
Grout is more than just the cement that fills and holds your tile together; it is an important element of
the tilework s design. Often disregarded, grout selection is as significant as the tile you select, and it is
the finishing touch that will bring together your unique design.
Grout varieties have expanded over the last decade and nowadays, you can find grout in virtually
every shade and every color to blend or add a little contrast to your tiles. By choosing a different color

Sanded grout is less expensive and should be used if the spaces between the tiles are greater than 1/8
inch. Non sanded or unsanded grouts, tend to cost more and are made specifically for grout lines
smaller than 1/8 inch. Unsanded grout will shrink as it cures and the more grout you have, the more it
will shrink. If you try to fill grout lines that are too wide, the grout will shrink enough to pull away
from the sides of the tile. Make sure to talk with your installer about choosing the right grout for your
specific project.
Tips for Selecting Grout
Install a few pieces of tile on a piece of plywood and add a couple of different colors of grout. Allow it
to properly cure and then place it in the room you are having the tile installed to see how the lighting
affects your choice. When selecting grout colors, keep the following tips in mind:
If you have selected a colored grout, make sure to give it time to cure before making a final decision.
Lighter colored grouts should be sealed, especially in heavy traffic areas and in showers.
Darker colored grouts are better at hiding discolorations and dirt, but can also fade if subjected to

Tea Industry in Bangladesh

Bangladesh is a small tea producing country sharing 2% of the world s Tea production. Tea is an agro

economy through export earnings, trade balancing and employment generation. Our Tea industry dates
back to 1857 when the first tea garden was established at Malnicherra in Sylhet District. Today we

Tea Plantation in Bangladesh
Bangladesh produces and exports a large quantity of high quality tea. Most of the tea plantations are
situated in the northeastern areas of the country, around Sylhet and Srimongal. Sylhet is situated close
to Bangladesh s border with the Indian states of Meghalaya and Assam. This part of the country is
covered by hillocks rising to moderate heights. The rainfall is higher than average, a fact which British
tea planters realised in the 18th century to the advantage of tea cultivation. These conditions have
provided rich tropical forests with many species of wildlife, scented orange groves and pineapple
plantations. It is also the home of Khashia and Monipuri tribals.
The waterfalls of Madhab Kunda are another very picturesque place to visit. Jafflong, where the river
runs along the border between Bangladesh and India is especially beautiful. On the way there are
number of haors or marshy wetlands, which are natural, depressed swamps holding water almost the
whole year round. They are home to many fish and thousands of local and migratory birds.

New Living Translation Vs English Translation Essay
I chose to look at the New King James, New International, New Living Translation and Revised
Standard Version, in addition to my original translation choice of English Standard Version. I choose
the New King James, New Living Translation, and English Standard Version to compare because I
feel they provide the most distinct differences between translations. I found that the textual variations
did not change the textual meaning but the emphasis of some parts of the text. We can find in verse
one, the NKJ version mentions they, and certain other women with them Both the ESV and NLT put
all of the women in the same category under the pronoun they . This variation of text adds more

The EVS version has a period. The exclamation point at the end of this phrase not only emphasizes
this miracle, but also shows expression of joy, awe, and excitement about the news of Jesus being the
Messiah that came to save. The next text variation that I found was in verse seven. This is a small
variation of wording. In the NLT, it uses the word betrayed while the NKJ and ESV are using the word
delivered when describing Jesus arrest and crucifixion. The use of betrayed makes the verse seem
more personal because betrayed in the English language has a negative and hurtful connotation. When
someone is betrayed, they are abandoned, hurt, and in pain. The usage of this word, I feel, adds
emphasis on Jesus feelings and makes it more personal for the readers who have been betrayed in the
past. Next, I found that in verse nine the use and placement of rushed adds emphasis that when the
women remembered what Jesus had said, they had to tell the disciples, and others, about the fantastic
news they had just heard. Returning in the ESV and NKJ versions is adequate too, but one can read it
as they went back without haste or at a normal speed to tell what they had witnessed. The term rushed
makes the women at the tomb seem more excited and awe struck that they had to share with

Persuasive Narrative Writing
The sun reflects off the green blades of grass and onto my light grey two story house with white
window shutters. 90 degrees fahrenheit, I read on my phone. Why do I have to go outside? I think to

Hey do you want to race? I ask Joseph. Sure I guess, but I will totally beat you, he answers. Whoever
can do three laps around the house first and fastest wins. No cheating, I say the rules as I draw the
finish line. We race. I run as fast as I can but he still beats me. If I just jumped over the finish line I
would have beat him. He beat me by a nanosecond. I need to beat him at something. I think. I am very

Violence And Crime In America
Turning on the news when you get home, and if it s not the weather or traffic on, there is a strong
chance, it s a news report about another crime committed in America. Violence and crime are way too
common in today s society. In my opinion, I believe gun control, mental disorders, and how we are
brought up are just some of the reasons we have so much violence and crime. Guns. They seem to be
such a controversy. I feel they are so easy to acquire, that is as long as you have a good background.
But even if you cannot get one, the internet is at our fingertips, one can easily search how to build one
and put it together. Every murderer also had a clear background at once. They could be stocking up
with guns, and one day go out and commit so

Medieval European Horses Vs Medieval Horse Essay
Medieval Europe and Shogunate Japan were very different but similar in many ways too. The
Shogunate period lasted longer then the Medieval period by approximately 170 years. We know that
many different things played a huge role in the day to day life of each period. Horses were very
important and played a big part in the transport and war of each period but in different ways.
Horses were not only used to get people from place to place in Europe there were many different uses
for horses. In medieval Europe there was 3 main types of horses the Destrier, the Palfrey and the
Courser they all had their own purpose and uses. Destrier means war horse so these horses were used
in the wars. They were very expensive and only the rich could afford them. They had a short neck and
a strong back so they could carry the knights around. The Palfrey was a smaller horse used for
everyday riding and especially ridden by women. They were also used for carrying messages. Well
bred mules also could be apart of the Palfreys. These horses were less expensive so the middle class
people usually had this type but it was still too ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The weight of the samurai and that armour was very heavy for the small horses so they could not run
for very long without getting tired. Archeologists have found terracotta horse models in Japanese
tombs that have almost identical saddles, bridles and harnesses as the Koreans had this suggests that
the horses came from Korea but they have also found that the horses in Japan have descended from
Mongolian, Korean and Chinese horses. Women were not allowed to ride with a saddle because that
was reserved for the male Samurai but later on they stopped that rule so the women and non samurai
could ride. This means that horses were not that important in day to day life in shogunate

Dvorak Symphony 9
The second concert film watched in class was Symphony No.9 in E Minor From the New World ,
composed by Antonin Dvorak. The piece was performed by the Vienna Philharmonic. The piece
follows the standard form from the Classical era, featuring four movements. The first and last
movements are in Sonata Allegro form, while the second and third are in ternary form.
The first movement begins with the lower strings playing rather softly, with the French horn and the
winds coming in behind them. The minor tone of the piece, and the gradual increase in the dynamic,
helps build tension. The movement has many tempo changes as it presents two different themes during
it. The themes themselves can be very loud, especially with the full orchestra playing, ... Show more

The first theme has a bold and majestic feel to it, with the trumpets and horns declaring it. The overall
feeling is much more positive than what was seen earlier and gives a sense that the performance is
coming to a major conclusion. The crescendos are followed usually by the winds, especially the
clarinet, and play at a much softer tone. Once again the timpani plays a large role in adding to the
crescendos and the brass play louder than they have throughout the entire piece. The performance
comes to a conclusion with the full orchestra playing theme 1, and lastly with the woodwinds bringing
it to a close.
There were actually two parts in this piece that I enjoyed the most. The first was the melody played by
the English horn in the second movement. It contrasted the dark mood of the first movement very well
while also being a very soothing melody on its own. It reminded me most of the type of music found
in the Lord of the Rings film adaptations. I also really enjoyed the crescendo in the third movement
and how Dvorak was able to build up to that moment. I felt the brass and percussion were able to
compliment the strings extremely well and create a very loud

Symptoms And Treatment Of Trypanosoma Brucei
Trypanosoma brucei is a member of the Trypanosomatidae family, is protozoan of order
Kinetoplastida. They cause African trypanosomiasis or sleeping sickness as it is most commonly
known, a parasitic disease it causes an infection in the brain and the meninges (Stanghellini Josenando
2001). Trypanosoma brucei have 3 different sub species, these being T. brucei gambiense which
causes chronic trypanosomiasis which has a slow onset in humans, T. brucei rhodesiense which causes
acute trypanosomiasis with a fast onset. With the last sub species being T. brucei brucei which causes
animal African Trypanosomiasis. It is a neglected tropical disease and is found primarily in the
continent of Africa with up to 60 million people affected in 35 African countries. Failure to treat this is
fatal (Ekwanzala et al. 1996), however there are currently four drugs on the market for the treatment,
these being pentamidine, melarsoprol, eflornithine and suramin (Wéry 1994).
There are 2 forms of Trypanosoma brucei, these being bloodstream form and the procyclic form
(Colasante et al. 2006). The bloodstream form should be eradicated by the adaptive immune response,
but this is prevented by the variable surface glycoproteins(Overath et al. 1994). These are adaptable as
they form a new unique set of proteins every 1/100 cell divisions to evade the surface protein specific
response. Trypomastigotes can multiply in the bloodstream as the slender form where once the

Similarities And Similarities Between Beowulf And Gilgamesh
British literature like Beowulf and Gilgamesh hold several characteristics that make this type of
literature unique. Each of theses stories hold similarities and difference that alter the course of the
main character. Both Beowulf and Gilgamesh took vast journeys in their ruling as leaders, but they
each took the journeys for different reasons. These two epic heroes of british literature both used the
up in coming benefits of christianity in their journeys expressed in the novels, yet the two characters
used the beliefs in different ways. Both of these men are viewed as having great amounts of power and
through analyzing it can be determined that the men use their powers to different extents. Gilgamesh
and Beowulf are two heros that have a number of similarities and differences in their epics.
One difference that lies in the two epic heroes is how christianity is perceived through the epics.
Gilgamesh and Beowulf both have biblical references in their quests, yet in Beowulf it can be seen
more clearly. During Beowulf s journey he specifically prayed to the Gods for guidance in the battles
with both Grendel and his mother. While in Gilgamesh the story contained a motif to Noah s Flood,
and this leads to shaping Gilgamesh into a greater king because it gives him a story to tell. Another
similarity in the epics in connection to christianity is they both use stories of the bible, Beowulf is seen
as a kenning to Cane in the biblical story of Cain and Abel. Gilgamesh used

The Time Of My Father Essay
The time in which I was born was very different than the one my parents had to live in when they
were children. I was born in a small town in Colombia, where no more than a hundred families lived.
The entire population of my hometown was Catholic. There was a small chapel next to my house and
the priest went there once a month to celebrate Mass. He and the seminarians stayed at our home,
when they went for the Holy Week and Christmas missions. On Saturdays, my brother and I went to a
town an hour away afoot or 20 minutes on a horse, to have further studies. Ninety percent of that town
s population were Pentecostal and only 10 % were Catholic. There was a big Pentecostal Church in
the middle of the town and a small Catholic church outside the village. My brother and I went to study
there on Saturdays because the Pentecostals offered to us a couple of American godparents who sent
us gifts twice a year from the US. Nonetheless, to get those gifts we had to attend school on Saturdays,
take pictures with the gifts in our hands, and attend the Pentecostal service once a year. During that
service, my brother and I laughed the whole time at the people dancing in the church. My aunt, the
only Pentecostal member of a family of twelve siblings, got embarrassed for our behavior every time
we attended the service. It was very interesting to grow up in a country where almost all the
population were Christians and, at least at that time, 92 percent of the 45 million Colombians reported

Superflab Essay
This study is a comparison of three alternative bolus materials to Superflab in providing the maximum
dose buildup (Dmax). Superflab is a synthetic oil gel based on vinyl plastic composed of disodecyl
phthalate. The maximum dose buildup (Dmax) is when 100% of the dose is deposited beneath a
patient s skin. Alternative bolus materials are tissue equivalent materials placed on a patient s skin
surface to increase or even out the surface dose. The composition of alternative bolus materials can
include anything from wet gauze to Play Doh to rice. The purpose of this study is to test the Dmax for
various bolus materials when compared to Superflab.
Walker et al. (2005) performed this study to determine the differences in producing the maximum dose
buildup while using Play Doh, water soaked gauze, and Superflab. The researchers wanted to
determine if Play Doh and water soaked gauze were adequate alternatives to Superflab. At the
beginning they accurately measured the radiation doses to be less than 10.0 cGy. Next, they made each
bolus material 5 mm thick and then placed TLDs at the center of the beam where they placed each
bolus and irradiated them 5 times each. Then, they calculated the mean dose, standard ... Show more

Language Used In Oleanna
The quote, The less seen, the more heard. The eye is the enemy of the ear in real drama by Thornton
Wilder, means that what we see distracts us from the real meaning and drama of the play. In the play,
Oleanna, by David Mamet, the visual movement seems important, a piece of the play that it cannot be
without, however it is actually inconsequential. The words, what is heard, carries the action, meaning,
and drama of Oleanna. The words of this play is convoluted and often mean nothing at all, however it
is these qualities that make the words important. The professor often speaks words that sound
interesting but have no meaning and is called out by Carol. He uses language that are flowery, used to
create the idea that he is an intellectual. These words, while having no straight meaning, creates the
overall implication that language is meaningless. This is increased by Carol s frustration at not being
able to understand his lectures. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to speak shows that he has control over the situation, that he is in the dominant role. This is later
switched when Carol learns the power of language that she has been able to make everything that he
says or does becomes whatever she defines it to be. If the visual is taken out, the way that she defines
how it happened would be stronger, we would be able to see it more from her

The Use Of Pesticides And Their Rate Of Decay On Soil...
One of the largest, and unspoken issues being dealt with in the United States today is the use of
pesticides and their rate of decay on soil rejuvenation. American culture currently accepts the
adaptation of genetically modified foods without regard to its various effects. In fact according to the
Organic Consumers Association, It s estimated that 75 percent of processed foods contain GMOs and
80 percent of all food consumed in the U.S. is processed. (5) Our country has developed a system in
which the agricultural norm is to use genetic modifications in order to keep up with the demand for
fast, good looking produce. As long as America is choosing the cheaper option of mass produced
GMO infested product, we will see a continual decline in soil quality and American health problems.
In an economic sense, due to the oversupply of genetically modified foods farms with GM foods are
having to deal with the over exposure of pesticides, which slows down the rejuvenation rate of the
soil.(5) In fact, the government purposefully pays farmers to use pesticides in order to keep the cost of
living down for people who are currently living in poverty. The soil in the America needs to be
organically restored in order to have this finite resource withstand the lifespan of the human race.
Hazardous effects of pesticides on soil organisms People are becoming more aware of the hazards of
genetically modified foods. However they may still be unaware of its effects on the soil from which

The Barbie doll has been a popular play toy for young girls since the late 1950s. Although the Barbie
doll seem like an innocent toy, it has had an effect on little girls body images. Many studies have
shown an association between young girls playing with Barbies and eating disorders. Even grown
women want to resemble Barbie so badly that they start to do surgery on their bodies which can be
very dangerous. This has led to the term, Barbie Syndrome, which refers to the drive, often of
adolescent girls, to attain impossible standards of beauty, projected by toys e.g., Mattel s Barbie Doll

As we planned the workshop, we discussed our own personal ambivalences about Barbie s collusion

Autism And Asperger s Syndrome
In today s society, many new discoveries having to do with the human brain and body are found every
day. Autism and Asperger s syndrome is just two examples of them. Not many people know what or if
they have this disorder until it is properly diagnosed, each and every year. The real cause of autism is
yet to be known, but better understanding the disorder might help. Someone who may not know much
about what they are, could read and find out more about it. The goals of this paper is to help someone
better understand the meaning of the disorders. Knowing the true meaning of what autism really is,
might help the diagnosis of the disorder. The conditions of both of these disorders are similar but have
different aspects. Autism is a type of disorder that has to do with intellectual disabilities and motor
skills. Autism also has some physical disabilities as well. Another name for autism is autism spectrum.
Working with someone in high school that had this disability, made me want to learn more about
them. The causes of autism is not pin pointed, but scientists have a pretty good idea what it is. Autism
Speaks is a website created by grandparents, Bob and Suzanne Wright, who have a grandchild with
autism. They created this website to get awareness out about the disorder. According to Bob and
Suzanne Wright Most cases of autism, however, appear to be caused by a combination of autism risk
genes and environmental factors influencing early brain development (B. Wright S. Wright).

The Italian Renaissance
People have lived here for thousands of years, even predating the roman empire and the etruscan and

which was Rome until about the 5th century AD. During the 4th century the Etruscans are steadily
losing power to the romans. Who have recently been part of the Etruscan world and have bowed down

which is centered in the city of florence. Then it later spread to the south having a huge impact on
Rome. This was later largely rebuilt by the renaissance popes. In 750 BC when the Etruscans

The Challenge Of Cultural Relativism By James Rachels
In The Challenge of Cultural Relativism , James Rachels presents six claims that have been made by
cultural relativists. One of the six claims that Rachels presents in section 2.2 of the article is that
different societies have different moral codes. I believe that Rachels thinks this claim is true. Section
2.1 of the article does a good job at explaining this idea. In this section, Rachels gives several
examples of the differences that can be found in moral codes of different people groups throughout
time. One of the specific examples he mentions is the different burial rituals of the Greeks and the
Callatians. The Greeks perform a ritual that includes burning the dead. The Callatian ritual consists of
eating the dead. The Greeks and Callatians, while encountering each other, both stated that the other s
ritual was inhumane. This disagreement, according to Cultural Relativism, is okay and to be expected
because the two moral codes come from two drastically different societies. A modern example of this
claim is that up until recently in China, small feet were praised and larger feet were frowned upon for
women. Radical efforts to prevent women s feet from growing included foot binding. This method of
prevention caused women to constantly be in pain. Women s foot size in the United States isn t
emphasized like the way it used to be in China. Therefore, citizens of the United States believe that
Chinese foot binding was a barbaric method, while people in China would think

The Underdogs By Mariano Azuela
The classic Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings song Mammas, Don t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be
Cowboys tells the sad, but familiar story of men growing up and leaving their families for reasons
they do not fully comprehend. It is the women, however, in the novel The Underdogs, by Mariano
Azuela, that understand this all too well. In The Underdogs, the author depicts Northern Mexican
villages overrun by the Mexican Revolution sending impromptu soldiers to fight the war, leaving few
citizens left behind with essentially nothing. Azuela paints a picture of the tremendous pressure put on
the citizens of Northern Mexico during the Revolution and we see this through his descriptions of
massive casualties and families feeling incredible pain due to the absence of their loved ones
everyday. Azuela uses this wartime atmosphere to describe how important women in Mexico were at
this time and their significance during the Mexican Revolution. Although degradation and
manipulation of women are quite obvious themes throughout the story, we see that the women of
Mexico played a major role in the Mexican Revolution, whether they fought in the battles themselves,
or were just a fading memory in a soldier s mind.
To fully understand the significance of women and their treatment in this time, one must first
understand the tension going on in the region. Pancho Villa, the leader of the Mexican revolutionist,
proclaimed himself as the military governor of the state of Chihuahua, a state in

Monae s Metropolis Saga
Monae s Metropolis Saga uses the cyborg as a metaphor for the oppressed, using cyborg bodies as a
stand in for black bodies and consequently drawing connections between the state of blackness and the
state of being cyborg. Monae herself speaks of her decision to choose an android because the android
to [her] represents the other in our society. (Kot 1) This is made specific to blackness when, in the
Metropolis Saga, Cindi time travels to the 20th and 21st centuries and is reborn as Janelle Monae,
becoming black rebels throughout history; accordingly, the line between cyborg ontology and black
ontology is blurred as she jumps between the two. Monae, additionally, describes cyborgs as neon

If for Monae, black bodies are cyborg bodies, cyborg bodies have existed throughout history and
cannot be situated solely in the future. Consequently, Metropolis as a city centered around Cindi s
black cyborg body cannot be temporally alienated from history, and must reckon with it. More than
that, though, Metropolis itself is not just a vision of the future but of the past, a transhistorical
metaphor of oppression and liberation. This differs from traditional science fiction cyborg
representations because for Haraway and many others, the cyborg exists within a future world.
However, for Monae, the cyborg has always existed in the form of black bodies, and the science
fiction world serves only to illuminate this. Accordingly, the transhistoricality is the only way that a
cyborg can be raced and allows a raced cyborg to recognize and grapple with the dark history that
birthed it for Cindi, this means time traveling to literally participate in, change, and solve her history.
Perhaps this is best expressed by the name of Monae s upcoming album, presumably containing the
last two suites of the Metropolis Saga, Dirty Computer. The computer is the android; however, the
android retains its dirt, the dirt being the dark and dirty history of racializations and blackness her
cyborg refuses to be pristine and reject that history, instead

Themes Of Requiem For A Dream
Requiem for a Dream takes us down the dark paths of four people who, in desperate attempts to find
happiness and fulfilment, become sucked into a world of drug addiction. The 2000 film by Darren
Aronofsky is based upon Hubert Selby Jr. s 1978 novel of the same name. Sara Goldfarb (Ellen
Burstyn) is a retired widow who lives by herself in a tiny apartment. She is very lonely and spends
copious amounts of time watching television; she is especially enamored with a self help show. After a
phone call leads her to believe her dreams of appearing on the show as a guest might come true, she
attempts to lose weight. She starts taking diet pills and soon finds herself hooked, causing her mental
state to deteriorate rapidly. Her son, Harry (Jared Leto), is a junkie who, along with his friend, Tyrone
(Marlon Wayans), thinks that his big break in life will be when he becomes a big time drug dealer. He
has no qualms about using his mother s beloved television set as collateral for drug deals. Harry s
girlfriend Marion (Jennifer Connelly) is a talented clothing designer who could have a future, but she
can t resist the drugs, and she finds herself sucked into down along with Harry. The film, which is set
in Brooklyn s Brighton Beach, holds close to the theme of the novel: the real drug we re all hooked on

Texting And Communication Essay
Ever taken the advantage of texting or video call to communicate with people instead of gathering the
confidence and talking in person? The amount of texting in this society has increased gradually over
the past decade with a percentage of over 7,700% (Burke). Since the development of communication
on modern technology, this generation s ability to communicate in person has been damaged through
lack of face to face interactions and improper grammar. Although texting and social media may
benefit relationships in long distance, privacy is invaded and the lack of interactions in person can
damage relationships. Furthermore, texting has changed the way the world communicates because it
provides an easier option for people to choose to contact people. To begin with, texting has changed
the way society in the 21st century communicates because it deprives social skills of a person. The
increasing amount of conversations developed on technology has affected the confidence and social
skills of this generation because communicating behind a screen is different from communicating in
person. Before sending a message, an individual can erase and retype a message before a mistake is
sent. On the other hand, in a verbal conversation, errors are irreversible once something is said.
Several people have turned to technology to get over their fears of confronting people. Not only does
this decrease the confidence of social skill in this generation, it also increases cyberbullying, a form of

This required that the majority of farmers would have to work and live together on large state run farms. Through these farms Stalin hoped to increase agricultural productivity, to create grain reserves for Russia, and to free many peasants for industrial work in the cities. In order to begin collectivization Stalin had about 5 million wealthier peasants, or kulaks, deported and/or killed and their equipment and livestock sent to collective farms. ... They voted for decisions that demanded equality for women at work, at school, and at church. There was only one decision at the convention that met with any resistance, and this was demanding the women a right to vote. But, after hesitation and bold reformers, the decision nearly passed. After 1848, women worked for change in many areas. They fought for additional legal rights in some states and won the battle. For instance, in New York, the city passed a laws allowing married women to keep their own property and wages once they married. • 8. Fermat s Last Theorem Research Paper Fermat s Last Theorem Pierre de Fermat, born in 1601, hailed by many as the king of amateurs , was a French lawyer and mathematics hobbyist. In the margin of his copy of Diophantus Arithmetica, he scribbled a note that would perplex and puzzle event the greatest mathematicians for the next 350 years. In this margin, Fermat wrote that there were no positive integers that can fill in x, y, and z of xn+yn=zn, where n represents a number higher than two. This equation was based on Pythagorean triples, infinite triplets of numbers that could satisfy the equation xn+yn=zn where n represents 2. the problem arose when Fermat noted that, I have found a truly marvelous demonstration of this proposition which this margin is too narrow to contain. This supposed proof was never revealed. This was not strange for Fermat, as he had a reputation of concealing his proof in order to frustrate his colleagues, and in Arithmetica, he frequently left out his proof. The thing that made this particular equation stand out was the fact that after Fermat s death in 1665 and the posthumous publishing of his Arithmetica, all other marginal conjectures were verified while this last ... During the Restoration period, there is one author who stands out from the rest and is known as the father of comedy of manners and that author is Molliere. One of his most notable pieces of work was the Misanthrope; thats core principles are based on the comedy of manners. The fundamentals of the comedy of manners often have a multiple consistencies that are true to most plays written during that time. It s sole purpose is to get a satirical perspective at the life, manners and social aspect of the upper class and aristocrats. Itt is considered high comedy due to the fact that it creates a critical perspective of the life of the upper classes, unlike low comedy which serves no other purpose than to create laughter. Plays which use comedy of manners often poke fun at the character s outlooks on life, their manners toward each other and their view toward lower social classes. In general the characters of plays/books during this time have very generic roles such as the fool, hypocrite, the jealous lover, ect... Additionally the plots of these plays usually are surrounding a complicated love situation that puts a few characters in conflict with each other. Rhetorical Devices Used In A Change To Come By Gcse Sam Cooke, A Change is Gonna Come Heralded by many as the anthem to the Civil Rights Movement, A Change is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke was and still is one of the most influential songs of all time. The song was originally released in 1964 on the album Ain t That Good News , but was released again as a single eleven days after Sam Cooke s untimely death on the 11th of December, 1964. There is no other social movement so effected by pop culture in the last century than the black Civil Rights Movement in America during the 1960s. The middle eight, which reads; Then I go to my brother / And I say, Brother, help me please. / But he winds up knockin me / Back down on my knees. , is a phrase highlighting the aggression the movement received from the police force during their marches. • 11. Platos Meno Essay The dialogue opens up with Meno asking what virtue is and whether it could be taught. Socrates asks Meno for a general definition of virtue, since as Socrates points out, we cannot figure out if virtue can be taught if we do not have a clear idea what it is. Socrates is looking for a general, or formal definition of virtue, not just examples or instances of it. Socrates wants to know what all the examples of virtue have in common. He wants to know the essence of virtue. Meno initially offers a list of virtues, but Socrates rejects this as a sufficient account. Meno also states that there are different virtues for everyone. The virtue of a man is to order a state and the virtue of a woman is to order a household. I believe that virtue can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First, it needs to be determined if virtue is a kind of knowledge. Then if it is, we can conclude it can be taught. And if virtue is not knowledge, thus concluding it cannot be taught. Socrates argues that virtue is knowledge, but then he changes course abruptly at and begins to argue the other side. Socrates points out there are teachers for medicine, priesthood and so on; everybody agrees that these are genuine teachers, whereas people disagree about whether the Sophists really do teach virtue. Maybe this again is because virtue cannot be taught. Neither of the early questions whether virtue is knowledge, whether virtue can be taught, the nature of virtue itself are answered. We arrive at some clarity about the unexpected issue of the nature and importance of knowledge. Knowledge is justified as true belief. You need to be able to explain and support your true belief because otherwise this knowledge will escape form the mind. Socrates uses the slave boy to demonstrate the process of recollection by asking him questions about a geometrical problem. Socrates has shown that there exists an additional cognitive state that can guide one much in the same way as one guided by knowledge. This state is the state of true opinion. Although true opinion is always true, it is fleeting and impermanent. I believe virtue is anything that may be advantageous in one s own way. It may be good, it may be bad in ... Some believe they have been visited by demons, or aliens in the night and attribute such events to witchcraft or Satanism. There are references to folklore from every nation throughout history. The Nightmare, is a painting by Henry Fuselli that dates to 1781, and depicts a chilling sleep paralysis incidence. In this painting, a malicious spirit sits on a man s chest while the victim lies there limp and unable to fight back. The cultural and spiritual implications of this phenomena is unique amongst neurological ailments. Isolated sleep paralysis (ISP) is the inability to move or talk during the transition between sleep and wakefulness, accompanied by auditory and visual hallucinations that are often extremely hostile. These hallucinations can include a wicked existence in the room, an impression of being touched, or hearing voices in the room. Some people see faces at the bedside. The oxidation reaction between cyclohexanol and sulfuric acid was successful in that it did in fact yield the adipic acid product but unsuccessful in the amount that was yielded, with a percent yield of only 35.0%. This yield may have been low due to both experimental and technical errors. One of the major causes of the low yield most likely had to do with the fact that the temperature went below 55.00C and above 65.00C during certain points of the reaction. When the reaction temperature goes above 65.00C, it causes the yield of adipic acid to be lower due to further oxidation. When the reaction temperature goes below 55.00C, it causes the yield of adipic acid to be lower due to the fact that the amount of energy is not high enough to activate oxidation of the reaction. Some of the product also most likely was lost during both the crystallization and recrystallization process. In the NLT, it uses the word betrayed while the NKJ and ESV are using the word delivered when describing Jesus arrest and crucifixion. The use of betrayed makes the verse seem more personal because betrayed in the English language has a negative and hurtful connotation. When someone is betrayed, they are abandoned, hurt, and in pain. The usage of this word, I feel, adds emphasis on Jesus feelings and makes it more personal for the readers who have been betrayed in the past. Next, I found that in verse nine the use and placement of rushed adds emphasis that when the women remembered what Jesus had said, they had to tell the disciples, and others, about the fantastic news they had just heard. My brother and I went to study there on Saturdays because the Pentecostals offered to us a couple of American godparents who sent us gifts twice a year from the US. Nonetheless, to get those gifts we had to attend school on Saturdays, take pictures with the gifts in our hands, and attend the Pentecostal service once a year. During that service, my brother and I laughed the whole time at the people dancing in the church. My aunt, the only Pentecostal member of a family of twelve siblings, got embarrassed for our behavior every time we attended the service. It was very interesting to grow up in a country where almost all the population were Christians and, at least at that time, 92 percent of the 45 million Colombians reported ... • 31. Superflab Essay This study is a comparison of three alternative bolus materials to Superflab in providing the maximum dose buildup (Dmax). Superflab is a synthetic oil gel based on vinyl plastic composed of disodecyl phthalate. The maximum dose buildup (Dmax) is when 100% of the dose is deposited beneath a patient s skin. Alternative bolus materials are tissue equivalent materials placed on a patient s skin surface to increase or even out the surface dose. The composition of alternative bolus materials can include anything from wet gauze to Play Doh to rice. The purpose of this study is to test the Dmax for various bolus materials when compared to Superflab. Walker et al. (2005) performed this study to determine the differences in producing the maximum dose buildup while using Play Doh, water soaked gauze, and Superflab. The researchers wanted to determine if Play Doh and water soaked gauze were adequate alternatives to Superflab. At the beginning they accurately measured the radiation doses to be less than 10.0 cGy. Next, they made each bolus material 5 mm thick and then placed TLDs at the center of the beam where they placed each bolus and irradiated them 5 times each. Then, they calculated the mean dose, standard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The researchers believed that wet gauze and towels had the potential to be adequate bolus substitutes, but knew the reproducibility of the gauze and towels would be low. They measured the dimensions of each bolus material and then, irradiated each material with various photon energies. The results showed that the Dmax changed and shifted to the surface when they used Superflab, but Dmax did not validate a shift change in the wet gauze and towel. In conclusion, the researchers discovered that wet gauze and wet towels are not adequate Superflab substitutes, although this could be that each bolus had a different ... • 32. Language Used In Oleanna The quote, The less seen, the more heard. The eye is the enemy of the ear in real drama by Thornton Wilder, means that what we see distracts us from the real meaning and drama of the play. In the play, Oleanna, by David Mamet, the visual movement seems important, a piece of the play that it cannot be without, however it is actually inconsequential. The words, what is heard, carries the action, meaning, and drama of Oleanna. The words of this play is convoluted and often mean nothing at all, however it is these qualities that make the words important. The professor often speaks words that sound interesting but have no meaning and is called out by Carol. He uses language that are flowery, used to create the idea that he is an intellectual. These words, while having no straight meaning, creates the overall implication that language is meaningless. This is increased by Carol s frustration at not being able to understand his lectures. ... • 33. The Use Of Pesticides And Their Rate Of Decay On Soil... One of the largest, and unspoken issues being dealt with in the United States today is the use of pesticides and their rate of decay on soil rejuvenation. American culture currently accepts the adaptation of genetically modified foods without regard to its various effects. In fact according to the Organic Consumers Association, It s estimated that 75 percent of processed foods contain GMOs and 80 percent of all food consumed in the U.S. is processed. (5) Our country has developed a system in which the agricultural norm is to use genetic modifications in order to keep up with the demand for fast, good looking produce. As long as America is choosing the cheaper option of mass produced GMO infested product, we will see a continual decline in soil quality and American health problems. In an economic sense, due to the oversupply of genetically modified foods farms with GM foods are having to deal with the over exposure of pesticides, which slows down the rejuvenation rate of the soil.(5) In fact, the government purposefully pays farmers to use pesticides in order to keep the cost of living down for people who are currently living in poverty. The soil in the America needs to be organically restored in order to have this finite resource withstand the lifespan of the human race. Hazardous effects of pesticides on soil organisms People are becoming more aware of the hazards of genetically modified foods. Although the Barbie doll seem like an innocent toy, it has had an effect on little girls body images. Many studies have shown an association between young girls playing with Barbies and eating disorders. Even grown women want to resemble Barbie so badly that they start to do surgery on their bodies which can be very dangerous. This has led to the term, Barbie Syndrome, which refers to the drive, often of adolescent girls, to attain impossible standards of beauty, projected by toys e.g., Mattel s Barbie Doll and the media, resulting in failure and frustration, issues related to body ... Autism and Asperger s syndrome is just two examples of them. Not many people know what or if they have this disorder until it is properly diagnosed, each and every year. The real cause of autism is yet to be known, but better understanding the disorder might help. Someone who may not know much about what they are, could read and find out more about it. The goals of this paper is to help someone better understand the meaning of the disorders. Knowing the true meaning of what autism really is, might help the diagnosis of the disorder. The conditions of both of these disorders are similar but have different aspects. Autism is a type of disorder that has to do with intellectual disabilities and motor skills. Autism also has some physical disabilities as well. Another name for autism is autism spectrum. Working with someone in high school that had this disability, made me want to learn more about them. The causes of autism is not pin pointed, but scientists have a pretty good idea what it is. Autism Speaks is a website created by grandparents, Bob and Suzanne Wright, who have a grandchild with autism. They created this website to get awareness out about the disorder. • 38. The Challenge Of Cultural Relativism By James Rachels In The Challenge of Cultural Relativism , James Rachels presents six claims that have been made by cultural relativists. One of the six claims that Rachels presents in section 2.2 of the article is that different societies have different moral codes. I believe that Rachels thinks this claim is true. Section 2.1 of the article does a good job at explaining this idea. In this section, Rachels gives several examples of the differences that can be found in moral codes of different people groups throughout time. One of the specific examples he mentions is the different burial rituals of the Greeks and the Callatians. The Greeks perform a ritual that includes burning the dead. The Callatian ritual consists of eating the dead. The Greeks and Callatians, while encountering each other, both stated that the other s ritual was inhumane. This disagreement, according to Cultural Relativism, is okay and to be expected because the two moral codes come from two drastically different societies. A modern example of this claim is that up until recently in China, small feet were praised and larger feet were frowned upon for women. Radical efforts to prevent women s feet from growing included foot binding. This method of prevention caused women to constantly be in pain. Women s foot size in the United States isn t emphasized like the way it used to be in China. Therefore, citizens of the United States believe that Chinese foot binding was a barbaric method, while people in China would think ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Underdogs By Mariano Azuela The classic Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings song Mammas, Don t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys tells the sad, but familiar story of men growing up and leaving their families for reasons they do not fully comprehend. It is the women, however, in the novel The Underdogs, by Mariano Azuela, that understand this all too well. In The Underdogs, the author depicts Northern Mexican villages overrun by the Mexican Revolution sending impromptu soldiers to fight the war, leaving few citizens left behind with essentially nothing. Azuela paints a picture of the tremendous pressure put on the citizens of Northern Mexico during the Revolution and we see this through his descriptions of massive casualties and families feeling incredible pain due to the absence of their loved ones everyday. Azuela uses this wartime atmosphere to describe how important women in Mexico were at this time and their significance during the Mexican Revolution. Although degradation and manipulation of women are quite obvious themes throughout the story, we see that the women of Mexico played a major role in the Mexican Revolution, whether they fought in the battles themselves, or were just a fading memory in a soldier s mind. To fully understand the significance of women and their treatment in this time, one must first understand the tension going on in the region. If for Monae, black bodies are cyborg bodies, cyborg bodies have existed throughout history and cannot be situated solely in the future. Consequently, Metropolis as a city centered around Cindi s black cyborg body cannot be temporally alienated from history, and must reckon with it. More than that, though, Metropolis itself is not just a vision of the future but of the past, a transhistorical metaphor of oppression and liberation. This differs from traditional science fiction cyborg representations because for Haraway and many others, the cyborg exists within a future world. However, for Monae, the cyborg has always existed in the form of black bodies, and the science fiction world serves only to illuminate this. Accordingly, the transhistoricality is the only way that a cyborg can be raced and allows a raced cyborg to recognize and grapple with the dark history that birthed it for Cindi, this means time traveling to literally participate in, change, and solve her history. Perhaps this is best expressed by the name of Monae s upcoming album, presumably containing the last two suites of the Metropolis Saga, Dirty Computer. The amount of texting in this society has increased gradually over the past decade with a percentage of over 7,700% (Burke). Since the development of communication on modern technology, this generation s ability to communicate in person has been damaged through lack of face to face interactions and improper grammar. Although texting and social media may benefit relationships in long distance, privacy is invaded and the lack of interactions in person can damage relationships. Furthermore, texting has changed the way the world communicates because it provides an easier option for people to choose to contact people. To begin with, texting has changed the way society in the 21st century communicates because it deprives social skills of a person. The increasing amount of conversations developed on technology has affected the confidence and social skills of this generation because communicating behind a screen is different from communicating in person. Before sending a message, an individual can erase and retype a message before a mistake is sent. On the other hand, in a verbal conversation, errors are irreversible once something is said.
