Banking And The Banking System
ABSTRACT Banking has been developing drastically over the years, whether it s related to the
banking system or way individuals can withdraw or spend money. This has created a great leap in
banking crime. However there s a scare knowledge of the public s understanding of this. Data was
collected through a questionnaire and analysed using a chi squared analysis. Through student and
nonstudent participants sampling approach no significant differences were observed between group
understandings of new banking crimes and found that they had identical ranking of responses.
Additionally using an approach by Schuman and Scott (1987), half the participants were asked open
questions and the other closed questions, this also highlighted the impact of question form on ranking
of responses and showed no definate ordering of response choices could be made. Key words:
Banking crimes, public understanding, questionnaire, chi squared analysis 1.Introduction The banking
system and ways that people can withdraw and/or spend their money has changed over the years and
continues to do so. People originally made payments with physical money which moved onto credit
cards, debit cards and contactless cards (Lambert, 2011). From 1971 electronic commerce appeared
which brought along digital wallets like Paypal (van Ketel and Nelson, 2005).The banking system,
includes commercial, investment and national central banks, has also been changing. Exposed
weaknesses have been exploited and created

Describe My Defining Moment
If you have lived for any length of time, you probably had a defining moment. I experienced my
defining moment in the summer of 2010 when I was six years old. You may not think a child that
young could have a defining moment, but you would be wrong. Moreover, our experiences as children
help to shape our personalities, our outlook on life, and what fears and anxieties we develop. My
defining moments happened on a trip to The American Museum of Natural History.
There was nothing spectacular about that day; it started out just like any other. My dad planned a trip
to the Museum of Natural History. I did not particularly like going to the museum. At that age, I found
it boring because there was nothing to do, but stare at things that did not interest me, and that I could
not touch or play with. Nevertheless, off we went. When we were only a couple of blocks away, dad
said he was afraid we would not be able to find parking close to the museum. Therefore, when he saw
a parking space several blocks away, he pulled over and parked. His plan was for us to take the train to
the museum.
Taking the subway had never been pleasant for me. I disliked the crowdedness, and ... Show more

the train pulled into the station, the conductor honked the horn, and I got very excited because I
thought he was honking at me. I thought he was saying hello, so I looked up to tell dad that the
conductor honked at me, and when I looked up, my world stopped. The man I had been following all
this time was not my dad. In a state of panic, I ran away as fast as I could but had no idea where I was
running. My heart was pounding, my head was spinning, and my eyes were overwhelmed by the

Adam Turner Smart Home Technology
Even though the home of the future will bring many benefits to consumers, owning home appliances
connected to the internet may pose a security risk. In an article by Adam Turner, titled Smart
technology may make your home a net target , Turner explains the dangers of using smart home
devices. How do these dangers affect smart home technology? To explain the issues, Turner relays the
knowledge of AVG security adviser Michael McKinnon. Mckinnon claims that people use most of
these devices to access files remotely, giving hackers the opportunity to breach them. After a hacker
gains access to a home s internal network, they can then collect passwords and financial information
(Turner 1). The essence of Turner s argument is that by using internet connected smart home
technology, hackers have an easier means of accessing sensitive information.
However, as home technology advances, security measures are advancing as well. Michael
Passingham s article titled The Norton Core is a crazy looking, ultra secure router presents a new line
of defense against home hackers. Passingham states:
Symantec says the Core will be constantly updated with a huge database of smart home devices and
will automatically quarantine any device that s running firmware known to be a security risk. You ll ...

In Tom Price s article titled Big Data and Privacy , Price explains an example of a company turning
data over to advertisers. According to Price, in 2010 Facebook admitted to allowing advertisers access
to users data, violating their own policy. Aside from taking data directly from users, some advertisers
also collected information from the users friends (Price 6). The essence of Price s argument is that not
all data recorded through the internet is private. Just as Facebook allowed advertisers to access
personal information, smart home companies could do the same with the information collected by

Laboratory Techniques and Measurements Lab 1
The purpose of this lab was for the student to get involved with his or hers new lab kit as well as being
able to know, identify and use each other tools provided in the kit. Another key learning aspect of this
lab is to teach the student how to measure properly the many units in the SI system. I will be using
laboratory dilutions, measurements, and weights to then calculate using algebraic formula.
Throughout lab one we were introduced to many different forms of measurement, whether its using a
ruler too measure length, a digital scale to measure weight, and also many different sized and shaped
flasks to measure different volumes. Another key measurement of this lab was to teach the ... Show

This lab is all about measurements and recording them properly. The lab first introduces to use the
measurement of centimeters, millimeters, and meters to measure different household objects in our
everyday life. We were given the task to use the provided ruler and measure a CD, key, spoon, and a
fork in centimeters and then convert our findings to give us the appropriate units of millimeters and
meters for each object required in the exercise.
Data Table 1: Length measurements. | Object | Length (cm) | Length (mm) | Length (m) | CD or DVD |
12cm | 120mm | . .12m | Key | 5.5cm | 55mm | 0.055m | Spoon | 15cm | 150mm | .15m | Fork | 18cm |
180mm | .18m |
Lab 1 also teaches us the importance of molecular weight of a substance and how to use that to find
the amount of moles of that substance in a solution. For example; in exercise 3 we were asked to
weigh 8 grams of sugar and then calculate how many moles of sugar it really was. Using the
molecular weight of sugar (C = 12.01 grams/mol, H = 1.008 grams/mole, O = 15.00 grams/mole). We
were then able to use this molecular mass of the sugar that we then had to use to calculate and
determine the molarity of the sugar

Texas Anti Marijuana Laws Should Be Banned
Texas has had a long history of being a state that marijuana is smuggled into across the border with
Mexico. The anti marijuana laws in Texas are some of the strictest in the United States with high fines
and long prison sentences. Currently under Texas laws the possession of 2oz or less can result in 180
days in jail and or a fine up to $2000 dollars, as well as your license being suspended for 12 months.
So why does Texas take a such a harsh stance against marijuana? Why does Texas keep throwing
money on fighting a war on marijuana? How many more of our fellow Texans are going to have their
lives ruined over using a plant that grows out of the ground. Through research I will show and explain
how the current aggressive laws and policy against marijuana in Texas effects not only the users, but
every Texan. The beginning of Texas anti marijuana laws can be traced back to the city of El Paso
(Drug Policy ORG). Prior to 1914 Texas had no laws concerning the usage or sale of the plant, but
then the stories of people using marijuana in Mexico and terrorizing people made their way to El Paso
and the Deputy Sheriff Stanley Good. Deputy Good made it a personal mission of his to get El Paso to
make the substance illegal. The whole basis of his argument is that immigrants from Mexico will
come to the Untied States and use the drug and terrorize El Paso. At the time marijuana use was
prevalent in the border towns by both Americans and Mexicans but nobody gave it any

Motif In Fahrenheit 451 By Ray Bradbury

Throughout the novel books evolving in the beginning. Montag burns the books and is trying to
prevent the usage of books. Towards the middle of the book we find out montag is hiding books, and
his wife points out that it s a huge risk. He might come burn the house and the family (Bradbury 2.25).
This is showing bravery because he is risking the books and his wife to save the books. It s dangerous
because he s threatening to burn his own house down.
An example of symbolism in this novel is the hound. Montag sees the hound as something that can kill
him. Didn t i hint enough when I sent the hound around your place? montag s face was entirely numb
and featureless (bradbury 3.2 3). After montag killed Beatty the hound which montag fears went after
him. This shows bravery because Montag s conquering his fear of the hound for the society. This is
dangerous because the hound can kill him.
An example of imagery in this novel is fire. They use fire as a danger. The burning of the books was
making the people mad, so the protest started. The woman s hand twitched on the single match switch.
The fumes of the kerosene bloomed up about her . The lady who is protesting the burning of the books
so she burns herself alive. This is showing danger because she is burning herself and a risk because

The Information Age And The Management Information System...
The readings this week discuss the challenges of competing in the information age and the
management information system tools managers can use to help them support the business strategies.
With so much data available, there is an opportunity and advantage for companies to utilize
information systems to capture and make sense of this information. There are a variety of information
system modules that are available, including Customer Relationship management (CRM), Supply
Chain management (SCM), Human Resource management (HRMS). While they all have their own
emphasis, the advantages of each of these modules include the ability to store data, create reports that
enable management to make sense out of the data, and share this information, in real time, throughout
the organization. With good input data, information systems can provide a company with a
competitive advantage in the marketplace.
Discussion
Information systems can provide great value to all departments within a company. For customer
service, dealing regularly with the buyers of products or services, having a information system that
captures buying patterns, pricing, credit terms, and customer preferences, greatly simplifies the job,
reduces errors, speeds order processing and can create customer loyalty. For finance, information
systems enable the group to generate reports to understand product profitability, customer pricing and
terms, and more. For all departments, having access to meaningful information

The Gap in Social Classes in Detroit
With Detroit being the most segregated city in the country, the center with the richest business
industries mixed along with the largest minority middle class anywhere, much controversy is
occurring and it is causing many issues to the surrounding metropolitan area. Due to such a large gap
in social classes, status frustration has led to a spike in racial tensions causing more crime. Because of
this Detroit has become a main focus of many local news reports. Many Detroit residents are
becoming upset with the fact that only negative reports have made the front covers of newspapers
giving Detroit a false image. This has been proven true with many television shows, movies, and
video game images. The previously aired show Detroit 1 8 7, an American crime drama about Detroit
s leading homicide unit, was taken off air because it gave a negative outlook on the Detroit area. The
show s producer, David Zabel stated that even though it was show about crime, there still was an
opportunity to give the city positive light because of the heroic people that do fight for the city s
justice. After reading many commentaries on this show, the conclusion that the people of Detroit say
the people of the city are not as mean and violent as the shows producers make them seem. In 1974,
Detroit was given the nickname of Murder City after more than 700 homicides were committed. Since
this is such a sensitive subject for Detroit citizens, one of the biggest issues with

The Prevelence and Influences of Stereotypes
Almost everyone has heard phrases such as blondes are dumb, Canadians live in igloos, females are
better drivers than males, students who do well in school are nerds and always sit in the front of the
class, etc. All of these sentences are examples of stereotypes. Stereotypes as one can conclude from
the above sentences are very broad generalizations targeted towards a group of individuals. They
usually target minorities based on the habits and actions these minorities engage in. Even though
many people find stereotypes to be funny, and some individuals will even argue that a class of
stereotypes can be proven to be correct because of research, they are nonetheless morally degrading
and therefore, are not grounded in truth because of lack of knowledge about one s culture/background,
personal experiences, and the roles of research and media in today s society. To start off the discussion
on stereotypes, one must first analyze how humans of today s society think. Ever since the dawn of
civilization, humans have had the ability to categorize things based on their looks, actions, etc. Hence
one can conclude that it is human nature to categorize different things, be it other humans. It is the
society s way of making a complex world simpler ((Division of Student Affairs)). The notion of
categorization of other human beings is programmed in a human s brain since childhood. As humans
age, their tendency to categorize different racial group as superior/inferior increases

Business Management And My Dream Job
During my sophomore year in high school, I made up my mind, I wanted to study business. My uncle
owns his own business, he took me to work with him one day ever since then I have been in love with
the concept of being your own boss. Although I didn t really understood at the time what the job
required or was about. The environment felt so natural and positive. As I got older and started looking
more into it really felt like something suited for me that is why I choose this career. My major is
Business Management and my dream job is to become a Management Analyst. A bachelor degree is
needed for entry level job as a management analyst, however most employers prefer to hire
management analyst who has a Master s Degree in Business Administration (MBA). Psychology is
one of the required courses needed to get a business management, the others are Accounting, Intro
Contemporary Business, business law, principles of marketing, public speaking, Principles of
Sociology, Intro to Computer
Applications Introductory Technical and Business Writing, the Dynamics of Communication. I truly
believe that psychology will help me greatly in the field of business management the reason for that
being, we learned a lot this semester of all things we learning how to deal with stress had to be one my
favorite. I plan on entering a field where the stress level is way above average, so therefore I will
apply the techniques we used in class.

Stereotypes In Forrest Gump
White privilege and stereotypes are two ways race can influence a person s everyday life. White
privilege can be defined simply as white people getting special privileges and rights because they are
white. This can be seen when a white person gets a job opposed to a person of color or when white
people are able to live in nicer neighborhoods while people of color live in crime ridden ones because
white people have more wealth. White privilege has become so normal that most people fail to see it
in action. Furthermore, stereotypes can have many harmful effects as well. Stereotypes can be defined
as distorted views or inaccurate beliefs about a group of people. Not all stereotypes are bad, but many
of them are. An example could be saying that all African Americans are good at sports. However, this
is not always the case. Stereotypes may sometimes seem harmless, but these beliefs can impact a
person s life. White privilege and stereotypes are two different concepts, but they both have similar
effects that tend to hurt people of color more than they hurt white people. Both of these ideas appear in
the 1994 film Forrest Gump, which was directed by Robert Zemeckis. The film depicts white privilege
by showing only white people in positions of power, illustrates stereotypes about people of color by
having a stereotypical black family, and changes black history by having a white person make
achievements that people of color really made.
Forrest Gump is a movie that follows a man throughout the story of his life. It starts out with Forrest
Gump waiting at a bus stop when the bus arrives and a woman steps out and sits down next to him. He
begins to talk to her and he offers her some chocolate. The way he talks hints to the fact that he is not
the most intelligent person. He then starts to talk about her shoes which leads him to a flashback of his
childhood in Greenbow, Alabama in about 1945. From there he starts to talk about everything that has
happened in his life that has led him to where he is now. He talks about meeting Jenny on his first day
of school, his running getting him a football scholarship for college, enlisting in the army and meeting
Bubba, getting a medal of honor, and playing ping pong against China.

The White Family From The Documentary, The Wild And...
This essay examines and analyzes the various behaviors and personalities of the infamous White
family from the documentary, The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia. During this analysis,
topics such as, antisocial personalities, and IQ are applied to specific events that occur in the
documentary. In addition to these mentioned topics, traits that are often associated with criminal
behavior and, the multiplier effect, and the general strain theory. Each of these theories and topics will
directly be associated with a specific behavior or personality that a member of the White family
displays. The general strain theory, can be heavily applied to this documentary as there are an

These choices are often in response to the strain they are already attempting to cope with, IQ plays a
part in how a person copes with the strain or difficulty in their lives. Additionally, listening to any
member of the White family speak, it is highly visible that many of the members lack a basic
education and that their IQ seems to be extremely low. As we have seen, IQ and temperament are
given prominent roles as factors influencing how a person copes with strain and thus how insulated he
or she if from criminal behavior Having antisocial behavior, the lack of education, and not having
gainful employment is closely related to IQ and how it affects a person s life outcomes. Take for
example, Poney White and his family, Poney had issues in his youth with the law, he served his time
and made the decision to move out of Boone County, he is gainfully employed and his children, have
more ambition and the understanding of how the environment in Boone County can affect them
negatively. Poney states that he only had education up until the 7th grade, however he still made the
decision to seek out a better environment and opportunity for himself and his family. The multiplier
effect by Dickens and Flynn, can also be applied to the Whites

The Effects Of Stress On Captive Zoo Animals
Introduction.
The effects of stress on captive zoo animals has been a major concern among zoologists as well as
zookeepers in recent years (Fernandez et al.2009). In previous studies, one of the major factors
inducing stress in captive animals that appears to have been overlooked, are the noise levels created by
the presence of zoo visitors and the effectiveness of the design of indoor zoo exhibits in reducing the
noise levels in particular. While research exists showing that the presence of zoo visitors can be a
source of enrichment for captive animals, particularly those who are social by nature, further
investigations have indicated that visitor presence can in fact be a source of stress in non social species
including felids (Hosey 2000). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This study will look at the effectiveness of the exhibit design in preventing noise pollution caused by
the increased number of visitors to the Milwaukee County Zoo jaguar exhibit. The exhibit which
contains both an indoor portion which is designed to resemble the jaguar s native jungle habitat as
well as an outdoor portion, currently houses three adult jaguars, Pat, Stella, and Francisco. Both Pat,
who is 16 years old and formally a Problem jaguar from Belize, and Stella who came to the
Milwaukee County Zoo in 2005, live together as a breeding pair (K. Kuhn in conversation). Francisco
is the 2 year old son of Pat and Stella and lives alone (K. Kuhn in conversation). Over the course of
six weeks, I will be collecting data using Wensen WS1361C decibel meters which are equipped with
data loggers. The decibel meters will be used both inside and outside the jaguar exhibit to determine
the effectiveness of the exhibit design. To analyze the zoo visitor effect, as well as the frequency of
stress related behavioral responses observed, data will be collected during on three different days of
the week both through observation of the jaguars as well as later analysis of the data recorded by the
decibel meters. Data will be collected both on days where zoo visitation is predicted to increase,
which are designated as Family Free Days, where visitors receive free admission as well as Non
Family Free days and Thursday afternoons where a decrease in zoo visitation is predicted for
observation time totaling a minimum of 15 hours. The recorded data will then be analyzed to
determine if the increased noise pollution created by an increase in zoo visitors will correlate with an
increase in stress related behavioral responses by the jaguars.

Examples Of The Doppelganger Motif In Frankenstein
Playing a significant role in Gothic literature, many authors have made use of the doppelganger motif,
just like Mary Shelley in her most famous work Frankenstein . Back in that time doubling was one of
the key concepts to eerie fiction, as Marshall Brown puts it : There can be few traditions so beset with
second selves and doppelgangers as the Gothic novel (Palmer 85).
But in how far do Victor and his created entity belong to this literary idea of the double ? And to what
extent is the protagonist able to be compared to the daemon ? The following paper argues that the
similarity of Victor Frankenstein and his constructed monster goes so far that one can speak of a
double.
In Gothic fiction, which provides the best known examples of ... Show more content on

There are not many similarities at first sight when investigating these two main personalities.
However, when looking beyond their outward apparent surface, one needs to admit that they have far
more in common than just sharing the connection of creator and creation. The probably most striking
aspect is their repeated urge for going into and hiding in the nature. The monster sees nature as a
welcomed place to just be who he actually is and to hide himself from humans as they are scared of
him and also tend to attack him due to his appearance. On the other hand Victor needs the nature not
only for his mood but also for his health and makes use of it every time he feels under the weather or
is critically ill : It had then filled me with a sublime ecstacy that gave wings to the soul, and allowed it
to soar from the obscure world to light and joy (Shelley 66).
Besides nature, it s also remarkable that both characters have a serious drive for knowledge, since
Victor Frankenstein is invigorated by science and devotes himself to create supernatural life. The
daemon s drive for knowledge is visible when he starts understanding human society and secretly
learns how to speak, so that he is able to interact with human

Generational Gaps
Organizational behavior is the study of understanding individual behavior and group dynamics in an
organization (Nelson, 2013). With such a diverse workforce including multiple generations and
different ethnic groups, a one size fits all management approach is improbable to achieve success in
today s workplace. Our text relates: First, managers need to know how to motivate diverse work
groups. Second, managers need to know how to communicate with employees who have different
values and language skills (Nelson, 2013, p.47). Baby Boomers are motivated by a strong work value
system; the concept of working long hours, sacrificing family time (mostly fathers), and climbing the
corporate ladder defines them. Often described as workaholics, boomers work long hours to establish
self worth, identity and fulfillment (Allen, 2013). A live to work mentality is their motto (Nelson,
2013). Generation Y or Millennials seek value through contribution, and teamwork. Often driving by
autonomy, this generation understands the 24/7 work environment, so they are resistant to rigid
traditional office hours and time behind a desk. Millennials are focused on making meaning, not just
making money (Asghar, 2014). A work to live mentality is their motto (Nelson, 2013). In the video
presentation, five similarities of Boomers and Millennials are presented: odyssey, flexibility,
meaning/purpose/challenge, diversity, and altruism (HBR IdeaCast, 2009). New experiences and

The Project Life Cycle Of The Production Bubble Gum And...
Introduction
Quality standards pervade all aspects of society, from quality management systems standards for
nuclear power stations to technical specifications for manufacturing bubble gum (Keystone and
Accountability, 2006). For NGOs, the story is no different(optic). In general, NGOs are engaged in a
wide range of activities, they set up projects to help people in poverty areas. But little attention has so
far been given to their organization and management so that the quality of NGOs project could not be
guaranteed. As for the quality of the project, it is primarily determined by a series of uncertainties and
flexibilities at all stages of project life cycle(Roger Atkinson, L.C., S.W., 2006). Therefore, the central
argument of this article is going to find out how these two factors influence the projects and which
two quality management reforms could help to promote the NGOs project in the context of a complex
environment. In doing this, comparisons will be made with two examples of Nokia and Lions Clubs
International from their private sectors.
The Definition of Quality Management in NGOs
Quality (or performance)forms the third corner of time cost quality triangle which is the basis of
project management(Albert Lester, 2007). It is generally defined as a degree of excellence . In the
context of organizational performance it can be defined as the way in which an organization, through
its activities and underlying management systems, succeeds in meeting the needs of

Why Are Humans Attracted To Cats Essay
Why are humans so attracted to cats? Cats like dogs have been domesticated for thousands of years,
adapting to humans and being part of our everyday lives. In many civilizations cats have even been
negated as divine. In ancient Egypt for example they were worshipped like gods and deemed holy. The
position of cats in society varies on the civilization and the time period, but they nonetheless exist next
to humans to some extent. This bond is unique because cats are independent, and are individualistic
creatures. More than dogs, cow s, sheep s, or any other domesticated animal cats are the closest to
being equal independent companions. There is a unique bond between cats and humans that does not
exist between any other animal and our history together is one of compatriots rather than dominance.

As stated in the article How Cats Became Domesticated , they hypothesized that cats were accepted by
humans because of wild cats hunting rodents in agrarian civilizations as long as 9,000 years ago. This
hypothesis carries weight as cats are excellent hunters and are still praised for killing unwanted
rodents even today. I personally know family members that only own cats for dealing with rodents in
their property. These family members are still maintaining the traditional cat human relationship from
our ancestors. What was interesting in that same article was when they stated, Cats, unlike dogs, are
really only semi domesticated... we were surprised to find DNA evidence of their domestication . This
explains the independent nature of cats that allows them to hunt rodents without the guidance of
humans. Cats carry in a wild nature that keeps them self sustained and unlike other domesticated
animals are not completely dominated by their owner. Being semi domesticated does not mean that
cats are completely indifferent to humans; cats still have a unique connection to their

Perspective Of Resiliency In Robert Frost s On A Tree...
Robert Frost s Perspective of Resiliency
Resiliency has always been a highly favored characteristic amongst societies. In Robert Frost s On a
Tree Fallen Across the Road the resiliency of the narrator and a group of individuals was challenged.
In the sonnet, a group of individuals were traveling through the woods when a heavy wind storm
knocked a tree in front of them, which resulted in a bar in their pathway. Although after the group of
individuals overcame their tribulation they received a new outlook to life. In the sonnet; On a Tree
Fallen Across the Road, Robert Frost presented imagery and a metaphor in order to communicate his
thoughts and feelings on trials, ultimately Frost illustrated that resiliency through trials result in a new
perspective of life. Frost described the literal meaning of the sonnet through imagery. Through Frost s
description the audience was able to know the sonnet s setting was in a windy environment near trees.
Frost illustrated the setting through his description, ...tempest with a crash of wood. Through the
description of the weather and surroundings of the narrator, the audience was able to know there was a
wind storm and a fallen tree in the path. Correspondly, Frost described the effect of the fallen tree.
Frost illustrated the effect of the collapse of the tree, [The tree] throws down in front of us... The
collapse of the tree established the physical problem within the sonnet. The physical problem within
the sonnet was the tree blockaded the path of the travelers. After Frost described the physical struggle
within the sonnet, he described the outcome. Frost stated, Steer straight off [the path]... The travelers
took a different path to overcome the fallen tree. Overall the literal meaning of the sonnet was
described as a group of travelers built a new path, after a tree fell and blocked their trail. The literal
meaning of Frost s sonnet was described through his use of imagery.
Frost communicated his purpose of the sonnet through a metaphor. The pathway was symbolic of life
and the fallen tree was symbolic for trials individuals face in their lifetime. The psychological problem
was overcome through the strength of the travelers. The narrator proclaimed his

The story is about two people, supposedly friends , go about during the holiday season and obtain the

The first use of imagery in the story was to describe the weather and atmosphere during the holiday
season. They used stuff such as A leafless and birdless winter morning to describe the winter like
atmosphere in the area they live at, which would show the sense of sight. There was also the saying, A

authors use of dark, sorrow, lamentations, and black mass, to describe the situation presented the
events as deceitful and wicked.
2) Where does the author use imagery? The author uses imagery in the passage more than once. For
example, the lines black mass of cloud and hid the brightening stars, suggest that the cloud deprives
the forest of it s of light. The imagery suggests that the forest is now dark and therefore gives the
reader an ominous feeling about the events to come.

Strictly speaking, this means that Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote this short story to reveal that people are
not permanently good or permanently evil.
Symbolism: The forest in the story symbolizes evil and corruption because according to Puritan
beliefs, the forest is the home of the devil. This is important to the story because Goodman Brown
does encounter evil inside of the forest instead of in the village.
Situational Irony: Situational irony is seen when Goodman Brown hides in the forest to avoid being
seen by Goody Cloyse. Goody Cloyse, his catechism teacher, is known as holy among the villagers.
The reader expects Goody Cloyse to be surprised and afraid upon encountering the old man, but the
opposite happened she walked with him. This is situational irony because the reader expected Cloyse
to avoid evil rather than joining into communion with it.
Dramatic Irony: In the short story Young Goodman Brown, Nathaniel Hawthorne used dramatic irony
to foreshadow dark events that would occur later that night through Faith s dreams. The reader can
assume that Faith s nightmares anticipate Goodman Brown s unholy actions in the

So, what is the Black Diamond Mines you may ask, it is a Regional Preserve that is over 6000 acres,
the location is in Antioch CA. It is an ideal place for hiking and other activities. From what I ve heard
it s a wonderful place I can t wait to go there myself. The miners who were at Black Diamond Mines
used the land in the 1860 s, but it was established in 1970 by The East Bay Regional Park District.
Many worked there including kids, but the mothers had to stay home and do house work. No one built

Millard Fuller Research Paper
One thing that people can say is that everyone desires to have a place to sleep, eat and live. Many
people like the idea of having a place they can call home. One organization, Habitat for Humanities,
has made ownership a possibility for anyone who desires to have it. For years people have been
searching for a less expensive way to begin their journey out of their predicament of not having their
own place to lay their head. Nothing can ever come without hard work though; to become a candidate
for owning a home, people have to go through numerous classes and engage sweat equity . This
organization has changed the lives of over a million families in over 1,400 bases internationally.
Where this great organization came from is the real question. The answer, an idea; before the idea

Guerilla Warfare In The Movie, The Patriot
Today in time guerrilla warfare is used by one of the strongest armies of the world. These tactics were
used even back during the revolutionary war. In the movie the Patriot, this movie portrays the fight
during the revolutionary war and the battles and the horror they faced. The battlegrounds used in the
war were a person s backyard. This new idea of guerilla warfare brought to the war was
unconventional and efficient. There were small militias taking out countless redcoats. Although it
wasn t the traditional form of fighting it worked. In the movie, the militia was led by Benjamin
Martin. General Martin and his militias tactics were honorable.
The colonist were English natives so their tactics were the same as the British army. The Continental
Regulars would line up like the British and mimic almost everything they would do. The British are
more trained and accurate so they would win every battle. The colonists were going to lose the war if
it wasn t for Benjamin Martin. Colonel Tavington shot the son of Benjamin Martin named Thomas

John Drygen And John Dryden And Shakespeare s Roles In Poetry
INTRODUCTION
The metaphysical poets have immense power and capability to wonder the reader and cajole inventive
perspective through paradoxical images, subtle argument, innovative syntax and imagery from art,
philosophy and religion implying an extended metaphor known as conceit. The term metaphysical
broadly applied to English and European poets of the seventeenth century was used by Augustan poets
John Dryden and Samuel Johnson to reprove those poets for their unnaturalness . John Dryden was the
first to use the term metaphysical in association with John Donne as he affects the metaphysics.
Goethe, likewise, wrote, the unnatural, that too is natural and metaphysical poets are studied for their
intricacy and originality. It will not be irrelevant and absurd to say, Metaphysics in poetry is the fruit
of the Renaissance tree, becoming over ripe and approaching putrescence (C. S. Lewis). Scholars
described the characteristics of metaphysical poetry from different point of view. They, in fact, lay out
the essence of metaphysical poem, as does R.S. Hillyer to call Loosely, it has taken such meanings as
these metaphysical poetry as difficult, philosophical, obscure, ethereal, involved, supercilious,
ingenious, fantastic and incongruous.

This project focuses on preparing samples for major and trace element analyses of the Cat Hills
volcanic field. Fourteen rock samples were collected from different locations from the Cat Hills
volcanic field. Whole rock samples were crushed with a Chipmunk jaw crusher to obtain gravel sized
particles. Samples were separated using sieves with a mesh spacing of 0.0037 inches and 0.0195

leader of classical resurgence in England for both interior decoration and architecture. Born in
Kirkcaldy, Fife in 1728, his designs combined light, detailed embellishment and colors, which he were
mainly notable for his use of abundant colors. Robert Adam was an eclectic who relied on his design
innovations as much as his business sense (Sharp, D., 1991). His work was on occasion acknowledged
as neo classical and Adamesque which the proper term should have been style of the Adams brothers (

The Impact Of The New Deal
Black political sentiment started to shift toward the democratic party with the Presidential campaign
of New York Governor Al Smith for the 1928 election. Al Smith captured 17 percent of the black
precincts of Philadelphia, 27 percent of the Black precincts of Cleveland and Chicago, and 28 percent
of Harlem. These statistics showed a shift in support to the Democratic party previously unseen in
American History. Full black voter shift did not occur with Al Smith s Democratic Party. Al Smith
wanted black support but did not risk white support to get it. Al Smiths unwillingness to fully commit

They considered early black politicians pawns of the white politicians, used as tools to maintain the
negro republican vote or to discourage vote altogether. Grassroots support for the democratic party
came later as the actions of the democratic candidates showed support for civil rights causes. Civil
rights advocates lobbied consistently for anti lynching legislation throughout the Roosevelt era. The
NAACP leader Walter white asked Democratic senators Robert Wagner and Edward Costigan to
create an anti lynching bill. The bill being too dangerous for politicians, did not receive enough
support to pass. Walter White asked for assistance from President Roosevelt but Roosevelt only
expressed sympathies and did not publicly support anti lynching legislation. Roosevelt gave Walter
White advice on alternate resolutions that did not put the Democratic party in jeopardy. All attempts at
legislation eventually failed and in the end political calculus took precedence over moral outrage.
Eleanor Roosevelt invested herself fully into racial justice. She involved herself with many African
American groups and treated civil rights leaders such as Mary Bethune as equals publicly. Franklin D.
Roosevelt could not freely and openly support these ideals. During Roosevelts era, pursuing social
justice and civil rights harmed politicians and their parties jeopardizing election outcomes. The

Contraceptive Contraceptives And Contraceptive Implants...
Contraception, the use of various devices, drugs, agents, or surgical procedure to prevent conception
or impregnation, helps all females plan if and when they want to have a baby. 50 years ago, FDA
approved contraception and currently over 100 million women have used contraception in their life.
Now, there are various types of contraceptives to choose from including long acting reversible
contraceptives such as intrauterine devices and contraceptive implants (Benagio, Bastianelli, Farris
2006). According to the ACOG Committee, these methods are the most effective of reversible
contraception and should be suggested as first line contraception for women able to reproduce by
physicians (2007). The CDC s Medical Eligibility Criteria, an inclusive summary of references on the
subject of contraceptive safety for a wide range of medical conditions, supports the use of intrauterine
device and contraceptive implants for all females (2013). The intrauterine device, the most widely
used form of contraception throughout the world, has many advantages regarding long lasting
contraception or intrauterine devices, on the other hand there are also non contraceptive benefits as
well. The most well known and most revolutionary long acting reversible contraceptive is Nexplanon,
according to Sarah Palomba M.D., and colleagues, authors of Nexplanon: the new implant for long

I m not sure of the past practices and relationships between the manager and the employees and the

I cared for 5 patients the previous night. As shift change was approaching, 3 of the 5 asked me who
will be the nurses working today. As I provided them with the answer, the replies were shocking, to
me! The parents of the 3 requested that they have another nurse to care for them instead of Martha.
My reply to them was we all aim to provide excellent service. All three parents had similar responses
to why they didn t want Martha as their nurse. This goes to the VRMC s phrase What does RIGHT

Do I smile at others in the hallway?
According to these parents, Martha does not. One parent went on to tell me that as they approach the
unit they greeted the nurses at the desk. She stated Martha may not have heard them. She stated that
Martha stated in a very disturbing tone EXCUSE ME, Y ALL COULD SPEAK. I didn t witness this

Reaction Paper On The Experience Machine
What if you could reprogram your life to feel, be and experience exactly what you wanted to? Robert
Nozick; an American Philosopher; targeted hedonist utilitarianism by introducing The experience
machine a thought experiment that he d developed to further apprehend whether our ultimate goal in
life was simply pleasure, or if there was something deeper and more complex which we aspire to
achieve. Philosophers have widely accepted that pleasure is the absolute highest valuable good that we
can obtain in life; the most desirous thing in the world. However, happiness is one of many
components of the human life. In 1971 Robert Nozick introduced a philosophical experiment called
The Experience Machine which proposed that neuropsychologist could stimulate your brain using
electrodes. Hooking up to this machine would mean that you would reprogram your life to experience
your ultimate fantasies and goals. Whether it be becoming a financially successful person, Climbing
Mount Everest, or simply finding the perfect romantic partner. While in the experience machine, you d
have no idea that what you were experiencing was a virtual reality projected from this machine into
your mind. Robert Nozick raised the question, Would you enter The Experience Machine or do you
believe there is something more that we value in life? Entering the machine would mean that you
believed simply having pleasurable experiences is the only valuable thing in life. Not attaching to the

Models Of Theories Of Memory
Evaluate two models of theories of memory.
This essay will evaluate two models of theories of memory. Memory can be defined as the persistence
of learning over time via the encoding, storage, and retrieval of information. Encoding is the process
of categorizing incoming information through conscious effortful processing, rehearsal, or
unconscious automatic processing. The storage process involves the retention of encoded information
over time. Lastly, retrieval is the process of getting information out of memory. There are various
types of memory. Sensory memory is the immediate, initial recording of sensory information in the
memory system. It also plays a vital role in filtering out useless information, enabling us to focus our
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some information from the sensory store moves to the STM by paying attention to information, while
some information from the STM moves to the LTM via constant rehearsal of that information. Once
that piece of information is stored in the LTM, it is long lasting perhaps even for a lifetime if that
certain piece of information is that strong. The difference in forgetting between the STM and LTM is
that memory forgotten from the short term store is lost whereas forgotten memories in the LTM are
still in the system but cannot be retrieved. The sensory, short term, and long term memory stores also
differ from one another in regards to duration (how long information can be stored), capacity (how
much information can be stored), and coding (in what form information can be stored). The sensory
store decays rapidly, has unlimited capacity, and the information is picked up by our senses. Sensory
memory includes iconic (visual), haptic (touch), and echoic (auditory) memories as well. STM lasts 15
30 seconds, is limited to 7 plus/minus 2 units, and is coded acousting. The information in STM is lost
unless it is rehearsed via repetition. On the other hand, LTM can potentially last a lifetime, has
unlimited capacity, and the information stored is primarily semantic but also acoustic and visual. The
strengths of the multi store model include: it stimulated further research into memory processes; it has
considerable evidence for

School Dress Code And Anti Dress Codes Essay
Students have been affected by dress codes for many years. Others, for better or for worse, never had
to deal with them. It has been debated for years between parents, students, and school systems alike as
to whether or not dress codes are appropriate to enforce. This essay will summarize, make an
argument, and analyze Krystal Miller s article on this subject, titled, School Dress Codes . School
Dress Codes is a 1990 article about the issues surrounding various city s experiences with enforcing a
school dress code. In the article, four different high schools in Detroit are examined, as well as a
school in Baltimore, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Depositions from both pro dress code and anti dress
code persons are included. The opposing end includes Mary Louise Starks, who is in charge of the
psychological services for the Detroit school system and says dress codes are not the solution to the
violence, A dress code is a temporary measure that is limited in scope. Students are committing these
crimes because they don t have a sense of power and self esteem. They steal from their peers to gain
control over another person (qtd. in Miller 87). An example of a pro dress code student from the
article is 17 year old Jonathon Johns, a senior at Dunbar High School in Baltimore, who says,
Violence isn t as bad as it was. There s no way to prove it s all due to the dress code, but I feel it s had

Difference Between German And Italian Opera
Like the previous eras, Opera continued to be one of the most important music genre is the 19th
century, especially in Italy, German and France. Opera served as a form of entertainment for the
people of higher social class. Opera music was also popular among the people of other social classes
due to the availability of transcribed opera music for them to enjoy in salons or homes of the middle
class. This genre was extensively explored and developed by the Italians and Germans. This paper will
discuss how Italian and German opera were developed by comparing each composer s distinctive
compositional traits.

As stated by Burkholder, Grout and Palisca, Weber s Der Freischutz s rustic choruses, marches, dances
and airs ; multisectional aria form (influence from Rossini) and florid vocal lines were all common
characteristics of the Italian Opera. Meanwhile in Verdi s Otello, Wagnerian influence could be seen.
Verdi used melodic motives to show the characters emotions. In Act 4 scene 3, the orchestra was used
to heighten the dramatic moment instead of the voice, which was a breakthrough in the history of
Italian Opera. It is apparent that both Italians and Germans knew how to blend the musical elements
and text well to demonstrate the Romantic traits in their opera.
Aside from that, nationalism could be shown in the works of these composers, yearning for unification
of their motherlands. Both librettist and composers sought to include elements that could entertain all
possible listeners. By the late nineteenth century, the standard opera repertory came to light and newly
composed operas were less frequently staged. Over the time, the opera works that survived have
become associated with high culture and had set a mark in the world of western music.
Further research could be done to identify how the compositional styles of 19th Century opera
composers influence the development of post nineteenth century music

Father Sons Relationship
Long Day s Journey into Night is one of the greatest dramas written by Eugene O Neil, somewhere
between 1939 and 1941. His plays were very innovative in this period due to his experimentation with
expressionism and realism. Moreover, this particular drama involves psychological intrigues within a
seemingly dysfunctional family. Namely, the Tyrones dysfunctionality is presented by single day
ongoing in which the readers/audience can find out the causes of the family s discord.
The dominant theme of the play is the past. It shaped the relationship between James Tyrone and his
sons: Edmund and James Jr. Furthermore, the past is seen as a burden and therefore, a common father

Narrowing and hardening of the artery walls causing buildup of fatty tissues (plaque), cholesterol and
other substances, which may restrict blood flow is referred to as atherosclerosis. Having restriction of
blood flow develops damage to a patients organs and also increases the risk of heart attacks, blood
clots, and strokes overtime (WebMD, 2015). It is said to be the most common form of arteriosclerosis
that forms small patches and arterial spasms. The plaque also known as atheroma, builds up and may
cause the blood clots to burst. Atherosclerosis is considered to be a heart condition, but may also affect
arteries in any part of the body and could be prevented and treated (Mayo Clinic, 2015). The arteries
in the body are blood vessels that transport blood from the heart and through the body. Endothelium,
which is a thin layer of cells that lines the arteries to help keep the inside of the arteries smooth and

Belisle s father, a coaching legend, turned the Belisle name into a hockey empire in New England
through hockey camps and programs for players and top draft recruitment for the National Hockey
League. Belisle himself spent his high school career playing for his father s team at Mount Saint
Charles Academy in Rhode Island where he helped to lead the Mounties to two state championships as
well as a national championship. Belisle was lucky enough to play under the coaching of his father,
Bill, and older brother, Dave.
Following high school, Belisle took his talent to the University of Connecticut, where he played on the
men s ice hockey team throughout all four years of college. He ... Show more content on

This past 2015 2016 season has been their best year yet as they made it to Lake Placid to play in the
Frozen Four tournament. The secret to success? I pride myself on being a good communicator, Belisle
explained, Motivation in communication is so big. You gotta be a bit more positive and you gotta
motivate them to see why. Keeping a team motivated is no easy task and when asked what keeps
Belisle himself motivated, he replied, It s the motivation from your family first, no question.
There is no doubt that Peter Belisle has had a successful career. His experience as a student athlete and
coach has helped him lead his team to success. However, it isn t the success that keeps him going, in
the end it all comes down to his passion for the game. Belisle stated, I m so blessed, I love my job so
much and I think that s the thing I m luckiest for. They say if you do what you love, you ll never work
a day in your life. Belisle went on to emphasize that point, Do something you love and find your
passion and that s what s driven me to be the best that I could

Bubonic Plague Globalization
In studying the effects of globalization and institutional efficacy on the spread of animal host
epidemics it is important to recognize and attempt to control for the differing host variables and
disease spread patterns in both Avian Influenza A (H5N1) and Bubonic Plague. There are two main
features of variability between Avian Influenza outbreaks and Bubonic plague pandemics that I find
prudent to acknowledge in order to give my cross historical comparison of the political response to
these diseases a solid grounding. The first is the basic function and spread of the diseases. Avian Flu
and Bubonic plague differ in their level of danger partially due to their transmission mediums and
forms. The second is the basic movement and behavioral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rats proclivity towards the human condition of surplus food supplies and trash production created a
system whereby these rodents cohabitation with humans, to the displeasure of the humans, was greatly
supportive of large rat populations (McCormick, 2003). In his 2003 study, McCormick goes into great
detail surrounding the intimate relationship between human urbanization and increasing rat
populations. These animals, did not only survive, but thrived on continued interaction with human
created systems of roads, cereal storage, waste disposal, and climate controlled housing (McCormick,
2003). This parasitic relationship clearly makes some institutional controls available in a more
domestic case less viable, but can still be mildly controlled as seen in modern steps towards urban
sanitation including widespread eradication of rat population in modern cities (McCormick,

Myth Of Truth Analysis
Truth has always been a very vague and grey area for many people, it s something that cannot be
agreed on by every single person. Each person has their own set of past experiences that have built
upon their morals, values and ethics. This ties in with their overall idea of why they view truth and lies
in the way that do. Professor Hedrick is interesting in the way that she teaches literature through the
historical point of view, proving background information that enables students to build upon this
background knowledge and find the interpretation for that piece of literature. Much like our differing
viewpoints on the concepts behind truth and lies can be connected to differing interpretations over a
certain work of literature. But when truth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Knapp, et all, Lying, 54 The idea of concept of lying, deception and truth as a grey area was
introduced and throughout the interview Professor Hedrick stuck to her stance of truth depending on
the person in question. Our journey through life has heavily influenced the ever changing stance over
truth. Knapp, et all, Lying, 57 Throughout the interview she spoke about her seeing changes in the
students, in their ideas, how they evolve in just a semester. Ethics to her is like a scale, it needs to be
constantly adjusted, adapted and balanced. Much like her students writing styles, she sees their
speech, their viewpoints over the world change drastically in just a semester, some students regress
and others thrive. Their interpretations open up and they come up to her with what they thought but
she is no stranger to the lies students tell. In her long career, she has had many outlandish lies told to
her, what students will do to get out of trouble or an extension on an exam or extra credit. The idea of
lying to an authority figure that could end in severe consequences is a lie that many students would
not think of before but when they enter the college scene, they change; some students would do
anything to get a little extra credit. It s part of her job to be vigilant for the possible lies students may
tell in an attempt to take advantage of her. This

Analysis Of Seaworld And San Diego
Summary SeaWorld in San Diego, California recently announced its facility has plans to phase out its
killer whale shows. This decision is what PETA and other oppositions of SeaWorld has been seeking,
but there is no news of ending these shows at their Orlando and San Antonio locations. There is
Federal legislation in the works to ban orca breeding, importing and exporting them for public display.
This legislation is called the Orca Act and is still in its early stages of proposal. Passing of the Orca
Act would most likely be the only way Orlando would stop its killer whale shows.
Stakeholders
Shareholders: SeaWorld s shareholders have seen a steady decline in revenues over the past couple
years, mainly because of the controversy associated with their killer whales shows. Not continuing
these steps in Orlando or San Antonio, will continue to decrease revenue.
Killer Whales: It is not natural for killer whales to perform shows and interact with humans. Stopping
these shows in San Diego will allow them to live more relaxed and more natural.
PETA: This is a small victory for PETA in its efforts against SeaWorld. With this decision, PETA will
continue to push SeaWorld for more animal rights and stoppage of using animals for entertainment.
Employees: Jobs within the San Diego facility with be shifted or cut. The need for animal trainers and
performers will be cut. The face of the company employees at SeaWorld also get asked the most
questions and sometimes

Compare And Contrast Communism And Russian Government
Introduction
The USSR, also known as the Soviet Union, was a country that was comprised of different republics
such as Belorussia, Ukrainian, Russian as well as the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republics. For this
reason, the Soviet Union comprised many nations among other ethnic groups among which Russia
was the largest in the union (Sakwa, 2008). The two regimes of government had both similarities and
differences. With respect to their differences and similarities, the aim of this paper is to compare and
contrast two different governments or regimes that have existed in Russia. Also, the paper will provide
an explanation of the governments fit in the definitions of the types of governments.
Compare and Contrast Russian Government Systems
When compared to other forms of governments, the Soviet Union government was an exception. The
rulers of USSR regarded imperialism and empire in ideological terms as not only the final, but also the
highest stage of capitalism. In line with a definition provided by Leninist did not define itself as an
empire but denounced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike the former Russia, in the present Russia, Citizens have a voice in the decisions made by the
government. There are a number of factors that make the present Russian government distinct from
the former Russian government (Cheibub, et al., 2010). To begin with, the present government has
given its Citizens the freedom of religion, speech and press. This is to mean that unlike the former
government, the present Russian government respect individual liberties. Another difference in these
two forms of governments is the citizen s involvement in government s decision making. While the
majority rule applies in the present Russia, the Earlier Russia has adopted an authoritarian form of
government where the king had ultimate powers (Sakwa, 2008). Also, the present Russian government
has adopted a system whereby the minorities also have a say on the

The Affect of Stress Essays
What is stress? Stress is defined as the physical, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral responses to
events that are viewed as threatening or challenging (Ciccarelli and White 2009). Stress differs from
person to person and can be experienced in many difference ways. Also, what may be stressful to me
may not be stressful to someone else. In this paper I plan on discussing how people can be affected by
stress positively and negatively. I will go specifically go over a few ways people are affected by stress;
aches and pains you may feel from stress, effects of prenatal stress, and positive stress.
Discussion
How stress can affect many people: Every day life events can send us on an emotional rollercoaster
and we can positively or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the time what he does isn t even something I would have yell at him about and quite honestly,
he gets yelled at because I was already in a bad mood. My fiancé also has the same problem when it
comes to frustrating situations at work. So my karma actually comes back to me and I have a better
understanding that he s not really upset with me just displaying his anger with another situation.
Aches and pains: Stress can be a pain in the neck (literally!). Our body can tend to use pain as a sign
that we are stress out. In the book, The Stress Effect, there are several cases that are discussed where
the author, chiropractor Richard Weinstein comes across a few patients that are experiencing pain
throughout their body. While treating these patients, he discovers that a lot of their pain is cause from
elevated or decrease levels of adrenal hormones. One case in particular, (called Marilyn) discusses
how a patient was experiencing burning pain in her esophagus, blood in the stool, low red blood cell
count, extremely fatigue and weakness, and multiple joint pains. After months of treatment and tests it
was discovered that the culprit was elevated cortisol levels and depressed DHEA levels. He finds that
these two adrenal hormones are key to pain associated with stress (Richard Weinstein, 2004).

Persuasive Articles on Gun Control Essays
Persuasive Articles on Gun Control
Persuading an audience can be done in several different fashions, one of which is Hugh Rank s Model
of Persuasion. Rank s model states that two major strategies are used to achieve the particular goal of
persuasion. These strategies are nicely set into two main schemas; the first method is to exaggerate an
aspect of something, known as intensify. While the second is to discredit it, which is referred to as
downplay. Al Franken, Jeffrey Snyder, Harlan Ellison, and George Will, have all written persuasive
articles about gun control. In reading all of the various articles on gun control by authors, I found
George F. Will s The Last Word to be the most persuasive. Will wrote his ... Show more content on

Franken was also able to downplay the usefulness of a firearm by including a series of sarcastic tips
for tragedy in a home. For example, 1. Keep the gun loaded... 2. Put the gun in an unlocked drawer...
3. Rest assured. 1 Where Franken s article comes up short is the use of hypothetical numbers to
exaggerate and intensify the deadliness of guns. His sarcasm adds diversity to his piece, but should be
used sparingly. Franken s conclusion causes his argument to lose its effectiveness, after building his
case it just seems ridiculous and out of place.
The least persuasive essay out of the four was Harlan Ellison s An Edge in My Voice. Ellison presents
his argument in a style that seems to me is more of a disgruntled rambling about both famous and
infamous people that die from gun shot, than an article about gun control. Ellison spends the first few
pages asking the reader if they cried when a certain person died; he begins with famous people such as
Martin Luther King, Bobby Kennedy, and John Lennon, and then moves on to more obscure
examples. Instead of trying to build an argument, Ellison seemed to be more caught up with anger and
the notion of conspiracies. He does however try to use the intensify technique of Rank s model, to
persuade the reader of the horror of deaths caused by guns and their importance. Although Ellison did
try to persuade his audience in a different manor, I felt it was ineffective at best,

  • 2. Banking And The Banking System ABSTRACT Banking has been developing drastically over the years, whether it s related to the banking system or way individuals can withdraw or spend money. This has created a great leap in banking crime. However there s a scare knowledge of the public s understanding of this. Data was collected through a questionnaire and analysed using a chi squared analysis. Through student and nonstudent participants sampling approach no significant differences were observed between group understandings of new banking crimes and found that they had identical ranking of responses. Additionally using an approach by Schuman and Scott (1987), half the participants were asked open questions and the other closed questions, this also highlighted the impact of question form on ranking of responses and showed no definate ordering of response choices could be made. Key words: Banking crimes, public understanding, questionnaire, chi squared analysis 1.Introduction The banking system and ways that people can withdraw and/or spend their money has changed over the years and continues to do so. People originally made payments with physical money which moved onto credit cards, debit cards and contactless cards (Lambert, 2011). From 1971 electronic commerce appeared which brought along digital wallets like Paypal (van Ketel and Nelson, 2005).The banking system, includes commercial, investment and national central banks, has also been changing. • 3. Describe My Defining Moment If you have lived for any length of time, you probably had a defining moment. I experienced my defining moment in the summer of 2010 when I was six years old. You may not think a child that young could have a defining moment, but you would be wrong. Moreover, our experiences as children help to shape our personalities, our outlook on life, and what fears and anxieties we develop. My defining moments happened on a trip to The American Museum of Natural History. There was nothing spectacular about that day; it started out just like any other. My dad planned a trip to the Museum of Natural History. I did not particularly like going to the museum. At that age, I found it boring because there was nothing to do, but stare at things that did not interest me, and that I could not touch or play with. Nevertheless, off we went. When we were only a couple of blocks away, dad said he was afraid we would not be able to find parking close to the museum. Therefore, when he saw a parking space several blocks away, he pulled over and parked. His plan was for us to take the train to the museum. Taking the subway had never been pleasant for me. I disliked the crowdedness, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I thought he was saying hello, so I looked up to tell dad that the conductor honked at me, and when I looked up, my world stopped. The man I had been following all this time was not my dad. • 4. Adam Turner Smart Home Technology Even though the home of the future will bring many benefits to consumers, owning home appliances connected to the internet may pose a security risk. In an article by Adam Turner, titled Smart technology may make your home a net target , Turner explains the dangers of using smart home devices. How do these dangers affect smart home technology? To explain the issues, Turner relays the knowledge of AVG security adviser Michael McKinnon. Mckinnon claims that people use most of these devices to access files remotely, giving hackers the opportunity to breach them. After a hacker gains access to a home s internal network, they can then collect passwords and financial information (Turner 1). The essence of Turner s argument is that by using internet connected smart home technology, hackers have an easier means of accessing sensitive information. However, as home technology advances, security measures are advancing as well. Michael Passingham s article titled The Norton Core is a crazy looking, ultra secure router presents a new line of defense against home hackers. Passingham states: Symantec says the Core will be constantly updated with a huge database of smart home devices and will automatically quarantine any device that s running firmware known to be a security risk. Laboratory Techniques and Measurements Lab 1 The purpose of this lab was for the student to get involved with his or hers new lab kit as well as being able to know, identify and use each other tools provided in the kit. Another key learning aspect of this lab is to teach the student how to measure properly the many units in the SI system. I will be using laboratory dilutions, measurements, and weights to then calculate using algebraic formula. The lab first introduces to use the measurement of centimeters, millimeters, and meters to measure different household objects in our everyday life. We were given the task to use the provided ruler and measure a CD, key, spoon, and a fork in centimeters and then convert our findings to give us the appropriate units of millimeters and meters for each object required in the exercise. Data Table 1: Length measurements. | Object | Length (cm) | Length (mm) | Length (m) | CD or DVD | 12cm | 120mm | . .12m | Key | 5.5cm | 55mm | 0.055m | Spoon | 15cm | 150mm | .15m | Fork | 18cm | 180mm | .18m | Lab 1 also teaches us the importance of molecular weight of a substance and how to use that to find the amount of moles of that substance in a solution. For example; in exercise 3 we were asked to weigh 8 grams of sugar and then calculate how many moles of sugar it really was. Using the molecular weight of sugar (C = 12.01 grams/mol, H = 1.008 grams/mole, O = 15.00 grams/mole). • 6. Texas Anti Marijuana Laws Should Be Banned Texas has had a long history of being a state that marijuana is smuggled into across the border with Mexico. The anti marijuana laws in Texas are some of the strictest in the United States with high fines and long prison sentences. Currently under Texas laws the possession of 2oz or less can result in 180 days in jail and or a fine up to $2000 dollars, as well as your license being suspended for 12 months. So why does Texas take a such a harsh stance against marijuana? Why does Texas keep throwing money on fighting a war on marijuana? How many more of our fellow Texans are going to have their lives ruined over using a plant that grows out of the ground. Through research I will show and explain how the current aggressive laws and policy against marijuana in Texas effects not only the users, but every Texan. The beginning of Texas anti marijuana laws can be traced back to the city of El Paso (Drug Policy ORG). Prior to 1914 Texas had no laws concerning the usage or sale of the plant, but then the stories of people using marijuana in Mexico and terrorizing people made their way to El Paso and the Deputy Sheriff Stanley Good. Deputy Good made it a personal mission of his to get El Paso to make the substance illegal. The whole basis of his argument is that immigrants from Mexico will come to the Untied States and use the drug and terrorize El Paso. The readings this week discuss the challenges of competing in the information age and the management information system tools managers can use to help them support the business strategies. With so much data available, there is an opportunity and advantage for companies to utilize information systems to capture and make sense of this information. There are a variety of information system modules that are available, including Customer Relationship management (CRM), Supply Chain management (SCM), Human Resource management (HRMS). While they all have their own emphasis, the advantages of each of these modules include the ability to store data, create reports that enable management to make sense out of the data, and share this information, in real time, throughout the organization. With good input data, information systems can provide a company with a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Discussion Information systems can provide great value to all departments within a company. For customer service, dealing regularly with the buyers of products or services, having a information system that captures buying patterns, pricing, credit terms, and customer preferences, greatly simplifies the job, reduces errors, speeds order processing and can create customer loyalty. The Gap in Social Classes in Detroit With Detroit being the most segregated city in the country, the center with the richest business industries mixed along with the largest minority middle class anywhere, much controversy is occurring and it is causing many issues to the surrounding metropolitan area. Due to such a large gap in social classes, status frustration has led to a spike in racial tensions causing more crime. Because of this Detroit has become a main focus of many local news reports. Many Detroit residents are becoming upset with the fact that only negative reports have made the front covers of newspapers giving Detroit a false image. This has been proven true with many television shows, movies, and video game images. The previously aired show Detroit 1 8 7, an American crime drama about Detroit s leading homicide unit, was taken off air because it gave a negative outlook on the Detroit area. The show s producer, David Zabel stated that even though it was show about crime, there still was an opportunity to give the city positive light because of the heroic people that do fight for the city s justice. After reading many commentaries on this show, the conclusion that the people of Detroit say the people of the city are not as mean and violent as the shows producers make them seem. • 10. The Prevelence and Influences of Stereotypes Almost everyone has heard phrases such as blondes are dumb, Canadians live in igloos, females are better drivers than males, students who do well in school are nerds and always sit in the front of the class, etc. All of these sentences are examples of stereotypes. Stereotypes as one can conclude from the above sentences are very broad generalizations targeted towards a group of individuals. They usually target minorities based on the habits and actions these minorities engage in. Even though many people find stereotypes to be funny, and some individuals will even argue that a class of stereotypes can be proven to be correct because of research, they are nonetheless morally degrading and therefore, are not grounded in truth because of lack of knowledge about one s culture/background, personal experiences, and the roles of research and media in today s society. To start off the discussion on stereotypes, one must first analyze how humans of today s society think. Ever since the dawn of civilization, humans have had the ability to categorize things based on their looks, actions, etc. Hence one can conclude that it is human nature to categorize different things, be it other humans. It is the society s way of making a complex world simpler ((Division of Student Affairs)). The notion of categorization of other human beings is programmed in a human s brain since childhood. As humans age, their tendency to categorize different racial group as superior/inferior increases ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Stereotypes In Forrest Gump White privilege and stereotypes are two ways race can influence a person s everyday life. White privilege can be defined simply as white people getting special privileges and rights because they are white. This can be seen when a white person gets a job opposed to a person of color or when white people are able to live in nicer neighborhoods while people of color live in crime ridden ones because white people have more wealth. White privilege has become so normal that most people fail to see it in action. Furthermore, stereotypes can have many harmful effects as well. Stereotypes can be defined as distorted views or inaccurate beliefs about a group of people. Not all stereotypes are bad, but many of them are. An example could be saying that all African Americans are good at sports. However, this is not always the case. Stereotypes may sometimes seem harmless, but these beliefs can impact a person s life. White privilege and stereotypes are two different concepts, but they both have similar effects that tend to hurt people of color more than they hurt white people. Both of these ideas appear in the 1994 film Forrest Gump, which was directed by Robert Zemeckis. The film depicts white privilege by showing only white people in positions of power, illustrates stereotypes about people of color by having a stereotypical black family, and changes black history by having a white person make achievements that people of color really made. Forrest Gump is a movie that follows a man throughout the story of his life. It starts out with Forrest Gump waiting at a bus stop when the bus arrives and a woman steps out and sits down next to him. He begins to talk to her and he offers her some chocolate. The way he talks hints to the fact that he is not the most intelligent person. He then starts to talk about her shoes which leads him to a flashback of his childhood in Greenbow, Alabama in about 1945. From there he starts to talk about everything that has happened in his life that has led him to where he is now. He talks about meeting Jenny on his first day of school, his running getting him a football scholarship for college, enlisting in the army and meeting Bubba, getting a medal of honor, and playing ping pong against China. ... In addition to these mentioned topics, traits that are often associated with criminal behavior and, the multiplier effect, and the general strain theory. Additionally, listening to any member of the White family speak, it is highly visible that many of the members lack a basic education and that their IQ seems to be extremely low. As we have seen, IQ and temperament are given prominent roles as factors influencing how a person copes with strain and thus how insulated he or she if from criminal behavior Having antisocial behavior, the lack of education, and not having gainful employment is closely related to IQ and how it affects a person s life outcomes. • 14. The Effects Of Stress On Captive Zoo Animals Introduction. The effects of stress on captive zoo animals has been a major concern among zoologists as well as zookeepers in recent years (Fernandez et al.2009). In previous studies, one of the major factors inducing stress in captive animals that appears to have been overlooked, are the noise levels created by the presence of zoo visitors and the effectiveness of the design of indoor zoo exhibits in reducing the noise levels in particular. While research exists showing that the presence of zoo visitors can be a source of enrichment for captive animals, particularly those who are social by nature, further investigations have indicated that visitor presence can in fact be a source of stress in non social species including felids (Hosey 2000). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The exhibit which contains both an indoor portion which is designed to resemble the jaguar s native jungle habitat as well as an outdoor portion, currently houses three adult jaguars, Pat, Stella, and Francisco. Both Pat, who is 16 years old and formally a Problem jaguar from Belize, and Stella who came to the Milwaukee County Zoo in 2005, live together as a breeding pair (K. Kuhn in conversation). Francisco is the 2 year old son of Pat and Stella and lives alone (K. Kuhn in conversation). Over the course of six weeks, I will be collecting data using Wensen WS1361C decibel meters which are equipped with data loggers. The decibel meters will be used both inside and outside the jaguar exhibit to determine the effectiveness of the exhibit design. To analyze the zoo visitor effect, as well as the frequency of stress related behavioral responses observed, data will be collected during on three different days of the week both through observation of the jaguars as well as later analysis of the data recorded by the decibel meters. Data will be collected both on days where zoo visitation is predicted to increase, which are designated as Family Free Days, where visitors receive free admission as well as Non Family Free days and Thursday afternoons where a decrease in zoo visitation is predicted for observation time totaling a minimum of 15 hours. The recorded data will then be analyzed to determine if the increased noise pollution created by an increase in zoo visitors will correlate with an increase in stress related behavioral responses by the jaguars. ... • 15. Examples Of The Doppelganger Motif In Frankenstein Playing a significant role in Gothic literature, many authors have made use of the doppelganger motif, just like Mary Shelley in her most famous work Frankenstein . Back in that time doubling was one of the key concepts to eerie fiction, as Marshall Brown puts it : There can be few traditions so beset with second selves and doppelgangers as the Gothic novel (Palmer 85). But in how far do Victor and his created entity belong to this literary idea of the double ? And to what extent is the protagonist able to be compared to the daemon ? The following paper argues that the similarity of Victor Frankenstein and his constructed monster goes so far that one can speak of a double. In Gothic fiction, which provides the best known examples of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are not many similarities at first sight when investigating these two main personalities. However, when looking beyond their outward apparent surface, one needs to admit that they have far more in common than just sharing the connection of creator and creation. The probably most striking aspect is their repeated urge for going into and hiding in the nature. The monster sees nature as a welcomed place to just be who he actually is and to hide himself from humans as they are scared of him and also tend to attack him due to his appearance. On the other hand Victor needs the nature not only for his mood but also for his health and makes use of it every time he feels under the weather or is critically ill : It had then filled me with a sublime ecstacy that gave wings to the soul, and allowed it to soar from the obscure world to light and joy (Shelley 66). Besides nature, it s also remarkable that both characters have a serious drive for knowledge, since Victor Frankenstein is invigorated by science and devotes himself to create supernatural life. • 16. Generational Gaps Organizational behavior is the study of understanding individual behavior and group dynamics in an organization (Nelson, 2013). With such a diverse workforce including multiple generations and different ethnic groups, a one size fits all management approach is improbable to achieve success in today s workplace. Our text relates: First, managers need to know how to motivate diverse work groups. Second, managers need to know how to communicate with employees who have different values and language skills (Nelson, 2013, p.47). Baby Boomers are motivated by a strong work value system; the concept of working long hours, sacrificing family time (mostly fathers), and climbing the corporate ladder defines them. Often described as workaholics, boomers work long hours to establish self worth, identity and fulfillment (Allen, 2013). A live to work mentality is their motto (Nelson, 2013). Generation Y or Millennials seek value through contribution, and teamwork. Often driving by autonomy, this generation understands the 24/7 work environment, so they are resistant to rigid traditional office hours and time behind a desk. Millennials are focused on making meaning, not just making money (Asghar, 2014). A work to live mentality is their motto (Nelson, 2013). • 17. The Project Life Cycle Of The Production Bubble Gum And... Introduction Quality standards pervade all aspects of society, from quality management systems standards for nuclear power stations to technical specifications for manufacturing bubble gum (Keystone and Accountability, 2006). For NGOs, the story is no different(optic). In general, NGOs are engaged in a wide range of activities, they set up projects to help people in poverty areas. But little attention has so far been given to their organization and management so that the quality of NGOs project could not be guaranteed. As for the quality of the project, it is primarily determined by a series of uncertainties and flexibilities at all stages of project life cycle(Roger Atkinson, L.C., S.W., 2006). Therefore, the central argument of this article is going to find out how these two factors influence the projects and which two quality management reforms could help to promote the NGOs project in the context of a complex environment. In doing this, comparisons will be made with two examples of Nokia and Lions Clubs International from their private sectors. The Definition of Quality Management in NGOs Quality (or performance)forms the third corner of time cost quality triangle which is the basis of project management(Albert Lester, 2007). • 18. Why Are Humans Attracted To Cats Essay Why are humans so attracted to cats? Cats like dogs have been domesticated for thousands of years, adapting to humans and being part of our everyday lives. In many civilizations cats have even been negated as divine. In ancient Egypt for example they were worshipped like gods and deemed holy. The position of cats in society varies on the civilization and the time period, but they nonetheless exist next to humans to some extent. This bond is unique because cats are independent, and are individualistic creatures. More than dogs, cow s, sheep s, or any other domesticated animal cats are the closest to being equal independent companions. There is a unique bond between cats and humans that does not exist between any other animal and our history together is one of compatriots rather than dominance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As stated in the article How Cats Became Domesticated , they hypothesized that cats were accepted by humans because of wild cats hunting rodents in agrarian civilizations as long as 9,000 years ago. This hypothesis carries weight as cats are excellent hunters and are still praised for killing unwanted rodents even today. I personally know family members that only own cats for dealing with rodents in their property. These family members are still maintaining the traditional cat human relationship from our ancestors. The first use of imagery in the story was to describe the weather and atmosphere during the holiday season. The authors use of dark, sorrow, lamentations, and black mass, to describe the situation presented the events as deceitful and wicked. 2) Where does the author use imagery? The author uses imagery in the passage more than once. For example, the lines black mass of cloud and hid the brightening stars, suggest that the cloud deprives the forest of it s of light. Symbolism: The forest in the story symbolizes evil and corruption because according to Puritan beliefs, the forest is the home of the devil. Situational Irony: Situational irony is seen when Goodman Brown hides in the forest to avoid being seen by Goody Cloyse. Goody Cloyse, his catechism teacher, is known as holy among the villagers. The reader expects Goody Cloyse to be surprised and afraid upon encountering the old man, but the opposite happened she walked with him. This is situational irony because the reader expected Cloyse to avoid evil rather than joining into communion with it. Memory can be defined as the persistence of learning over time via the encoding, storage, and retrieval of information. Encoding is the process of categorizing incoming information through conscious effortful processing, rehearsal, or unconscious automatic processing. The storage process involves the retention of encoded information over time. Lastly, retrieval is the process of getting information out of memory. There are various types of memory. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some information from the sensory store moves to the STM by paying attention to information, while some information from the STM moves to the LTM via constant rehearsal of that information. Once that piece of information is stored in the LTM, it is long lasting perhaps even for a lifetime if that certain piece of information is that strong. The difference in forgetting between the STM and LTM is that memory forgotten from the short term store is lost whereas forgotten memories in the LTM are still in the system but cannot be retrieved. The sensory, short term, and long term memory stores also differ from one another in regards to duration (how long information can be stored), capacity (how much information can be stored), and coding (in what form information can be stored). The sensory store decays rapidly, has unlimited capacity, and the information is picked up by our senses. Sensory memory includes iconic (visual), haptic (touch), and echoic (auditory) memories as well. STM lasts 15 30 seconds, is limited to 7 plus/minus 2 units, and is coded acousting. The information in STM is lost unless it is rehearsed via repetition. This essay will summarize, make an argument, and analyze Krystal Miller s article on this subject, titled, School Dress Codes . School Dress Codes is a 1990 article about the issues surrounding various city s experiences with enforcing a school dress code. In the article, four different high schools in Detroit are examined, as well as a school in Baltimore, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Depositions from both pro dress code and anti dress code persons are included. The opposing end includes Mary Louise Starks, who is in charge of the psychological services for the Detroit school system and says dress codes are not the solution to the violence, A dress code is a temporary measure that is limited in scope. Students are committing these crimes because they don t have a sense of power and self esteem. They steal from their peers to gain control over another person (qtd. in Miller 87). But, as every character in this drama, Jamie as well portrays his different side at the moments of drunkenness showing his jealousy at his brother what we can see in the fourth act. Furthermore, these moments can be justified by alcohol because later he apologizes for what he said: JAMIE (...) Never wanted you succeed and make me look even worse by comparison. Wanted you to fail. Always jealous of you. Mama s baby, Papa s pet! (He stares at Edmund with increasing enmity.) And it was your being born that started Mama on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Vascular Lymphatic System And Atherosclerosis Vascular Lymphatic System/Atherosclerosis Jazmin Fontan Bryant Stratton College AHLT120: Anatomy and Physiology 1 Dr. Pamela K. Hannaman, MS, ND, CPC, CMRS, CCMA November 18, 2015 Narrowing and hardening of the artery walls causing buildup of fatty tissues (plaque), cholesterol and other substances, which may restrict blood flow is referred to as atherosclerosis. Having restriction of blood flow develops damage to a patients organs and also increases the risk of heart attacks, blood clots, and strokes overtime (WebMD, 2015). It is said to be the most common form of arteriosclerosis that forms small patches and arterial spasms. The plaque also known as atheroma, builds up and may cause the blood clots to burst. Atherosclerosis is considered to be a heart condition, but may also affect arteries in any part of the body and could be prevented and treated (Mayo Clinic, 2015). The arteries in the body are blood vessels that transport blood from the heart and through the body. Endothelium, which is a thin layer of cells that lines the arteries to help keep the inside of the arteries smooth and toned allowing normal blood flow. The disruption that leads to atherosclerosis begins when an individual smokes, and has either high blood pressure or high cholesterol; in which begins to form atheroma. When the endothelium is damaged it causes it to become invasive allowing bad cholesterol or LDL to enter the artery walls. In return, causing the white blood ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Peter Belisle Essay The sport of ice hockey is a family affair. This is something that Peter Belisle learned at an early age. Belisle s father, a coaching legend, turned the Belisle name into a hockey empire in New England through hockey camps and programs for players and top draft recruitment for the National Hockey League. Belisle himself spent his high school career playing for his father s team at Mount Saint Charles Academy in Rhode Island where he helped to lead the Mounties to two state championships as well as a national championship. Belisle was lucky enough to play under the coaching of his father, Bill, and older brother, Dave. Following high school, Belisle took his talent to the University of Connecticut, where he played on the men s ice hockey team throughout all four years of college. He ... Keeping a team motivated is no easy task and when asked what keeps Belisle himself motivated, he replied, It s the motivation from your family first, no question. There is no doubt that Peter Belisle has had a successful career. His experience as a student athlete and coach has helped him lead his team to success. However, it isn t the success that keeps him going, in the end it all comes down to his passion for the game. Belisle stated, I m so blessed, I love my job so much and I think that s the thing I m luckiest for. They say if you do what you love, you ll never work a day in your life. Belisle went on to emphasize that point, Do something you love and find your passion and that s what s driven me to be the best that I could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bubonic Plague Globalization In studying the effects of globalization and institutional efficacy on the spread of animal host epidemics it is important to recognize and attempt to control for the differing host variables and disease spread patterns in both Avian Influenza A (H5N1) and Bubonic Plague. There are two main features of variability between Avian Influenza outbreaks and Bubonic plague pandemics that I find prudent to acknowledge in order to give my cross historical comparison of the political response to these diseases a solid grounding. The first is the basic function and spread of the diseases. Avian Flu and Bubonic plague differ in their level of danger partially due to their transmission mediums and forms. The second is the basic movement and behavioral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rats proclivity towards the human condition of surplus food supplies and trash production created a system whereby these rodents cohabitation with humans, to the displeasure of the humans, was greatly supportive of large rat populations (McCormick, 2003). In his 2003 study, McCormick goes into great detail surrounding the intimate relationship between human urbanization and increasing rat populations. These animals, did not only survive, but thrived on continued interaction with human created systems of roads, cereal storage, waste disposal, and climate controlled housing (McCormick, 2003). This parasitic relationship clearly makes some institutional controls available in a more domestic case less viable, but can still be mildly controlled as seen in modern steps towards urban sanitation including widespread eradication of rat population in modern cities (McCormick, ... • 42. Myth Of Truth Analysis Truth has always been a very vague and grey area for many people, it s something that cannot be agreed on by every single person. Each person has their own set of past experiences that have built upon their morals, values and ethics. This ties in with their overall idea of why they view truth and lies in the way that do. Professor Hedrick is interesting in the way that she teaches literature through the historical point of view, proving background information that enables students to build upon this background knowledge and find the interpretation for that piece of literature. Much like our differing viewpoints on the concepts behind truth and lies can be connected to differing interpretations over a certain work of literature. But when truth ... Our journey through life has heavily influenced the ever changing stance over truth. Knapp, et all, Lying, 57 Throughout the interview she spoke about her seeing changes in the students, in their ideas, how they evolve in just a semester. Ethics to her is like a scale, it needs to be constantly adjusted, adapted and balanced. Much like her students writing styles, she sees their speech, their viewpoints over the world change drastically in just a semester, some students regress and others thrive. Their interpretations open up and they come up to her with what they thought but she is no stranger to the lies students tell. In her long career, she has had many outlandish lies told to her, what students will do to get out of trouble or an extension on an exam or extra credit. The idea of lying to an authority figure that could end in severe consequences is a lie that many students would not think of before but when they enter the college scene, they change; some students would do anything to get a little extra credit. • 43. Analysis Of Seaworld And San Diego Summary SeaWorld in San Diego, California recently announced its facility has plans to phase out its killer whale shows. This decision is what PETA and other oppositions of SeaWorld has been seeking, but there is no news of ending these shows at their Orlando and San Antonio locations. There is Federal legislation in the works to ban orca breeding, importing and exporting them for public display. This legislation is called the Orca Act and is still in its early stages of proposal. Passing of the Orca Act would most likely be the only way Orlando would stop its killer whale shows. Stakeholders Shareholders: SeaWorld s shareholders have seen a steady decline in revenues over the past couple years, mainly because of the controversy associated with their killer whales shows. Not continuing these steps in Orlando or San Antonio, will continue to decrease revenue. Killer Whales: It is not natural for killer whales to perform shows and interact with humans. Stopping these shows in San Diego will allow them to live more relaxed and more natural. PETA: This is a small victory for PETA in its efforts against SeaWorld. With this decision, PETA will continue to push SeaWorld for more animal rights and stoppage of using animals for entertainment. Employees: Jobs within the San Diego facility with be shifted or cut. The need for animal trainers and performers will be cut. The face of the company employees at SeaWorld also get asked the most questions and sometimes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Compare And Contrast Communism And Russian Government Introduction The USSR, also known as the Soviet Union, was a country that was comprised of different republics such as Belorussia, Ukrainian, Russian as well as the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republics. For this reason, the Soviet Union comprised many nations among other ethnic groups among which Russia was the largest in the union (Sakwa, 2008). The two regimes of government had both similarities and differences. With respect to their differences and similarities, the aim of this paper is to compare and contrast two different governments or regimes that have existed in Russia. Also, the paper will provide an explanation of the governments fit in the definitions of the types of governments. Compare and Contrast Russian Government Systems When compared to other forms of governments, the Soviet Union government was an exception. The rulers of USSR regarded imperialism and empire in ideological terms as not only the final, but also the highest stage of capitalism. Stress is defined as the physical, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral responses to events that are viewed as threatening or challenging (Ciccarelli and White 2009). Stress differs from person to person and can be experienced in many difference ways. Also, what may be stressful to me may not be stressful to someone else. In this paper I plan on discussing how people can be affected by stress positively and negatively. I will go specifically go over a few ways people are affected by stress; aches and pains you may feel from stress, effects of prenatal stress, and positive stress. Aches and pains: Stress can be a pain in the neck (literally!). Our body can tend to use pain as a sign that we are stress out. In the book, The Stress Effect, there are several cases that are discussed where the author, chiropractor Richard Weinstein comes across a few patients that are experiencing pain throughout their body. While treating these patients, he discovers that a lot of their pain is cause from elevated or decrease levels of adrenal hormones. One case in particular, (called Marilyn) discusses how a patient was experiencing burning pain in her esophagus, blood in the stool, low red blood cell count, extremely fatigue and weakness, and multiple joint pains. After months of treatment and tests it was discovered that the culprit was elevated cortisol levels and depressed DHEA levels. He finds that these two adrenal hormones are key to pain associated with stress (Richard Weinstein, 2004). Effects on stress during ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Persuasive Articles on Gun Control Essays Persuasive Articles on Gun Control Persuading an audience can be done in several different fashions, one of which is Hugh Rank s Model of Persuasion. Rank s model states that two major strategies are used to achieve the particular goal of persuasion. These strategies are nicely set into two main schemas; the first method is to exaggerate an aspect of something, known as intensify. While the second is to discredit it, which is referred to as downplay. Al Franken, Jeffrey Snyder, Harlan Ellison, and George Will, have all written persuasive articles about gun control. In reading all of the various articles on gun control by authors, I found George F. Will s The Last Word to be the most persuasive. Will wrote his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Franken was also able to downplay the usefulness of a firearm by including a series of sarcastic tips for tragedy in a home. For example, 1. Keep the gun loaded... 2. Put the gun in an unlocked drawer... 3. Rest assured. 1 Where Franken s article comes up short is the use of hypothetical numbers to exaggerate and intensify the deadliness of guns. His sarcasm adds diversity to his piece, but should be used sparingly. Franken s conclusion causes his argument to lose its effectiveness, after building his case it just seems ridiculous and out of place. The least persuasive essay out of the four was Harlan Ellison s An Edge in My Voice. Ellison presents his argument in a style that seems to me is more of a disgruntled rambling about both famous and infamous people that die from gun shot, than an article about gun control. Ellison spends the first few pages asking the reader if they cried when a certain person died; he begins with famous people such as Martin Luther King, Bobby Kennedy, and John Lennon, and then moves on to more obscure examples. Instead of trying to build an argument, Ellison seemed to be more caught up with anger and the notion of conspiracies. He does however try to use the intensify technique of Rank s model, to persuade the reader of the horror of deaths caused by guns and their importance. Although Ellison did try to persuade his audience in a different manor, I felt it was ineffective at best, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
