The Future Of Electric Cars Essay
Electric cars are becoming very popular in today s world and are becoming more main stream.
One reason for this is the need for automobiles that have a lower or a zero carbon footprint. For
the majority of the history of the automobile, the propulsion system was a gas or a diesel engine
that would run off of fossil fuels. The burning of fossil fuels is very hazardous to our world and
also creates much toxic pollution. However, electric cars run off of electricity, which is a very
clean and pollution free resource, depending on how the electricity was produced of course. In this
paper we are going to examine the history of electric cars, look into modern electric car
technology, and peer into the future of electric car technology to see if EVs might be the answer
to dramatically reducing our global pollution. In the 1800s the development of the battery and the
electric motor led to the first electric vehicles on the road. It is hard to pinpoint the invention of
the electric car to just one inventor or country so several inventors have been given credit for the
invention of the electric car. A Hungarian named Anyos Jedlik invented a small model car powered
by an electric motor in 1828. And roughly between the years of 1832 and 1839, Robert Anderson of
Scotland invented a crude electric carriage. Also in 1835 Professor Stratingh of Groningen, Holland
built another small electric car with his assistant Christopher Becker. There was another inventor
named Thomas

In this method, the challenges from that emanated from the previous methods are solved through
the development of a quicker way that solves the same problems in a short duration. The goal of the
project was to obtain an easier methodology that can help in solving systems of eigen problems. In
particular the study aimed at obtaining anything that solve a collection of problems. The new
methodology adopted not only maintains the solution requirements but also introduces systematic
improvability. Through the new insights added to the new method which distinguishes it from the
previous methodologies, the required accuracy coupled with a fewer degree of freedom can be
achieved. Methodology and key results The methodology surrounds the solution of a quantum
mechanical Schrodinger equation for large complex systems such as insulating or metallic
materials at either ambient or extreme conditions. The wave equation is first modified in the form
of Kohn Sham equation. The solution is then derived from the assumption that there is a linear
combination of piecewise polynomials. The formulation of the Schrodinger problem within the
infinite crystal is then reduced using the boundary value problem within the confines of a unit finite
cell which is then extended to the crystal potential which consists of an array of atoms. The
formulation showed that for higher derivatives of the first order, there exist finite discontinuities at

Technology Impact On Lifestyle
Technology: The Impact on Health and Lifestyle
Many people these days tend to shy from person to person conversations. Why? Because of
technology, people these days lack the experience and courage to speak to each other without being
timid or awkward. It has become a normal habit in our society to communicate through phones and
laptops. Day by day, our generation is slowly developing a horrible future by losing social skills.
Majority of of the current generation believe that internet is important and that we need technology
to communicate. Also, humans believe that living a healthy life is important. Who knew that
spending too much time with technology is causing human health to fade? Technology could
possibly kill us or harm our health in numerous unspeakable ways. Something as simple as
holding a phone, texting, watching T.V, or playing video games can have a significant effect on
our health. Electronical devices start as far back as 1835 when Joseph Henry, who was an
American scientist, created the first electronical remote device. Joseph created a remote switch that
was used as part of a telegraph. Henry s remote idea was later used for improving telephones.
Electronics were first invented to help people communicate and/or improve their everyday lives.
They were meant to enhance people s lives by making life easier. These days, those factors have
been replaced from being helpful to being used for personal pleasure. Now, people are using
electronic devices in improper

Essay on Judging by the Cover
Judging by the Cover, is an essay written in 2003 by Bonny Gainley who is a consultant, speaker,
and author. It originally appeared in an opinion column in a Colorado newspaper. Although non
discriminatory, she believes that people project messages about themselves with their appearance.
This essay seems to be intended for recent graduates and young job seekers. The main point that
she tries to explain to the reader is that even though our family and friends may accept us for who
we are, employers may not.
Gainley does make some really good points when discussing why people need to be aware of how
they look. She seems to be trying to talk about too many issues in such a short article and it
becomes very confusing and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This paragraph was hard to understand. She seems to be trying to explain to the reader that
although you should not judge a book by its cover, businesses often make assumptions by their
appearance.
Dress codes exist for a reason. Sometimes it is for safety reasons but sometimes it s just about
what the employers or clients are willing to accept. If a certain look or appearance might make a
client uncomfortable then the company will decide that such an appearance is inappropriate or
might pose an unnecessary risk for that company.
While it does not seem right, employers do care about our appearance. Jobs exist to make money
and right now there is a tough job market. With a lot of people out there looking for jobs,
employers can afford to be picky. This is not about human rights and freedom, but about free
enterprise.
People are told to not discriminate against someone for something an applicant can t control, and
doing so would be illegal. With that being said, visible tattoos and body piercing are something very
much controllable. She uses a very good example that runners would be at a disadvantage if they
were to run 100 meters wearing combat boots. People who choose to have piercings and tattoos
put themselves at a disadvantage. Imagine if 2 people walked into a job for an interview. They
both had the same amount of experience, but one is dressed in a nice suite

Hospitality Service Essay
To identify the unique characteristics of the hospitality and tourism product and discussing their
implications in achieving service excellence in the Hospitality Industry.
Introduction
Service excellence is an extremely important for the Hospitality and Tourism Industry as the
cornerstone of the foundation of this business. Business depends on travellers; they are number
one for prosperity and for future development of a customer focused Industry. Sarah Cook
proposes that good service is meeting customer s expectations . (Cook, 2011, p. 17). She shows
that excellent service is exceeding customer expectations and to provide world class service needs
to improve the total relationship with the customer, the customer experience, improving the process
through which is delivered to the customer . (Cook, 2011, p. 17). Most people s definitions will be
based on personal experience. Put simply, providing service excellence in the hospitality industry is
about ensuring the guest is happy with the product and its delivery during the product delivery
period, but also that they retain happiness with the product after the product delivery period is over.

Persuasive Essay On Recycling
With the rapidly increasing use of plastic, aluminum, and paper materials, it only makes sense that
the problem we chose to focus on is recycling. In the world of engineering, recycling has been a
hot topic for many years, so for one to say that deriving an idea that hasn t been done before is
difficult, that would be an understatement. As any group of well educated engineers would, we
started our journey at the drawing board. The brainstormingprocess was potentially the most time
consuming section of our task, given we easily spent over fifteen hours spouting off ideas and
concepts for anything that we thought we could do that we could patent. We then realized it wasn t
just about us getting a patented idea, it was about making a difference. So, we then realized
something that could make a difference is one of the things that we have been taught the
importance of since we were in elementary school. That was recycling.
Now that the first step of the brainstorming process was over, which was finding a general
problem area, we then needed to figure out what in the world it was that we were going to do
that no one else had done before. After a couple of days of brainstorming, we quickly realized
that instead of coming up with a fresh idea, innovating what is imperfect was the perfect way to
approach this. In order to find where the problems laid, we had to go to the consumer. We began
asking our friends, family, and even a few random people what they thought the biggest issue was
that was hindering them from recycling. After a few conversations, accessibility and attraction
seemed to be the greatest factors.
With this in mind, we of course went back to the brainstorming process to figure out what
exactly it was that we were going to to do and how we would do it. After a few off the wall ideas,
followed by some mediocre ones, we decided we were going to innovate the recycling bin itself.
We figured up a plan to make the bin something that people could interact with and that could shred
whatever recyclable material that you put in it without requiring electric power. We then went with
a slow, torque based, hand crank that would be attached to some sort of shredding mechanism, one
strong enough to shred even

The Business Market Or Service Determines Their Revenue,...
The way a business market or service determines their revenue, sustainability, and longevity. In the
past business and entrepreneurs advertised to their customers by going door to door or if they
were financially stable they would pay for an advertisement on television. Unfortunately,
advertising door to door would limit coverage and commercials pricing may start at 500. Therefore,
a new venture was becoming and reaching more customers called data mining. Now all the
managers have to do is figure out the statistic of the population they want to advertise too and
market to a specific group of people with their previous purchases. They can use data visualization
to analyze customer s preference and patterns.
The benefits of data mining are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Predictive analytics is a great way to understand the behavior of customers because the type of
analysis analyzes their past to predict what they will purchase in the future. Business can also
predict how much of an item customers will purchase. Businesses can reduce the price of popular
items and increase customer spending. Cable companies monopolize on predictive analytics when
a customer downgrade, cancel, or purchase new service. When customers are getting new service
they may be asked how they chose this cable company from television advertisement, radio,
internet or friend. When a customer cancels their service they may ask them, why did you cancel
your service and what would help you continue your service. The company can use questions from
current and previous customers to improve their business and provide quality service. If CEO and
managers analyze their customer behavior they can market with improved services from previous
complaints which would bring more customers and raise revenue. A successful marketingteam will
target the right customers with the most appealing information concerning their product or service.

The Importance Of Indoor Air Pollution
Julia Henderson
H Environmental

Project
Indoor air quality at Stanwich is important for the health and comfort of teachers and students.
Understanding and controlling common pollutants indoors can help reduce health concerns. There
are many things that cause air pollution in our building including paint, heating system, cleaning
sprays, furniture and other materials. These pollutants can cause allergies, scratchy eyes, skin
irritation and headaches.
An approach to reducing air pollutants inside building is the use of plants and soil microorganisms.
Outside air quality depends on plants and microorganisms. Living in buildings away from plants
even without being exposed to chemicals, still exposes us to human waste products that cause
indoor air pollution problems.
What Causes of Indoor Air Problems
The primary cause of poor indoor air quality are sources that release gases or particles into the air.
Poor ventilation can increase indoor pollution by not bringing in enough outdoor fresh air into the
class that reduce the emissions from indoor pollution. Also, indoor air pollution is not carried out of
the class area. High classroom temperature and humidity levels can also increase concentrations of
some pollutants.
Pollutant Sources
There are many sources of indoor air pollution. These can include:
Building materials and furnishings as diverse as:
Deteriorated asbestos containing insulation
Newly installed flooring, upholstery or carpet
Cabinetry or

Lenovo Acquisition Analysis
Product/Brand decisions: Some of the issues Lenovo had to deal with in the acquisition of IBM
was how to capitalize on the marriage of brands and how to win corporate respect with the Lenovo
brand. The acquisition allowed Lenovo to move quickly into the international marketplace. Given
that IBM had one of the most trusted brands around the world, this allowed Lenovo to build on
past IBM s reputation. But Lenovo only had the right to use the IBM logo for five years so they
wanted to leverage that asset. The media perception of Lenovo s association with the Chinese
government was also concerning to Lenovo s executives since firms with this type association tend

This became part of their strategy of a one two punch : building up the Lenovo master brand and
continue to strengthen the ThinkPad product brand. Just before the acquisition Lenovo had
negotiated an Olympic sponsorship in order to introduce the world to the brand. They would be
able to use the Olympic logo for marketing and promotion but this arrangement would come at a
hefty price of $80 million to start and another $160 for the additional advertising requirement; a
large sum for a company with $3.2 billion in sales. Lenovo would also be able to continue to use
the IBM logo for five years as part of the acquisition which they intended to leverage. The promotion
strategy led to a three phase advertising plan. First, they ran a worldwide campaign where each ad
ended with a mention of the ThinkPad instead of Lenovo to reassure customer and maintain the
ThinkPad momentum. The second campaign was labeled ThinkPad Unleashed which ran during
the Olympics to emphasis that the ThinkPad was being made even better. The third phase stressed
that Lenovo stood for innovation which is how they intended to differentiate themselves from their
competitors. In order to continue to raise awareness, the marketing manager studied brand tracking
research from 10 countries every quarter. They would chose product

Gender Trouble By Judith Butler
INTRO
Judith Butler, the author of Gender Trouble (1990), is an American philosopher who was born in
Cleveland, Ohio, in 1956.
A feminist (that is, a participant in the cultural, political, and theoretical currents surrounding the
advocacy of the rights of women), she has published more than a dozen books and has been active
in debates ranging from lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transsexual rights to Middle Eastern politics.
She works on identity issues and prejudice against minorities, having personal experience of both.
Her mother lost her Hungarian family in the Nazi Holocaust during World War II, and, as a lesbian,
Butler has herself experienced discrimination. She has spoken about the difficulty of coming out as
a teenager and about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Butler intervened in these debates by questioning the very idea of stable gender identity.
THE ANSWER
No political revolution is possible without a radical shift in one s notion of the possible and the real.
Judith Butler, Gender Trouble: Feminism and the Subversion of Identity
Judith Butler argues that gender becomes ВґrealВґ by a person unconsciously acting in ways that
are accepted to be masculine or feminine and that even biological sex is a product of culture.
Gender is imposed through patterns of thought in the society, but history shows that identities have
changed over time, then it is impossible to say that they are fixed and eternal.
Gender Trouble is an original and radical text that employs for political ends the analytical methods
of poststructuralist theory (and its challenge to categories and ideas of objective truth).
IDEAS
Because there is neither an essence that gender expresses or externalizes nor an objective ideal to
which gender aspires, and because gender is not a fact, the various acts of gender create the idea of
gender, and without those acts, there would be no gender at

Theme Of The Zoo Story
The Zoo Story is said to be the most impressive debut ever made by an American dramatist
(Bigsby 129). The title of the play, The Zoo Story, is a significant title as it shows that it is not a
story about someone who visits the zoo and sees the animals, but it shows how the protagonist,
Jerry, lives with his neighbors. Although they are living in a rooming house, they are isolated
from each other in their rooms, like animals, and unable to form relationship even with the
landlady s dog (Hayman 189), like the animals in the zoo who live in cages. Kenneth Krauss says
the title of the play itself: The Zoo Story,... is the play s story of how modern urban life transpires in

In this play, Jerry fails to communicate with everyone, even the landlady s dog. When he met
Peter at the park, he decided to make communication with him through telling him stories. He
begins to tell him about his life, where he lives, his neighbors that he never speaks with, and
how the landlady tries to satisfy her needs, especially the sexual ones through harassing him
whenever he comes back to his room and finally to attract him more. He tells Peter about his
story with the dog. But after all of these stories, he fails to have any communication with Peter.
Robert S. Wallace says that what Jerry fails to realize, is that his use of words has added to his
isolation (152). His words as well had separated him from the audience and separated the
audience from the play. Wallace believes that Jerry manages to communicate with Peter through
body language not through verbal language (154). Mary M. Nilan believes that the reason for
lack of communication in society is because that the concept of love has demolished (128). In The
Zoo Story, Jerry says that if we can so misunderstand, well then, why have we invented the word
love in the first place? (36). Jerry s inability to communicate with the landlady s dog and Peter,
drove him to commit

The Anglo Saxon poems, The Wanderer, The Seafarer, and The Wife s Lament
The Old English, or Anglo Saxon, era of England lasted from about 450 1066 A.D. The tribes from
Germany that conquered Britain in the fifth century carried with them both the Old English
language and a detailed poetic tradition. The tradition included alliteration, stressed and unstressed
syllables, but more importantly, the poetry was usually mournful, reflecting on suffering and
loss.1These sorrowful poems from the Anglo Saxon time period are mimetic to the Anglo Saxons
themselves; they reflect the often burdened and miserable lives and times of the people who
created them. The Anglo Saxon poems, The Wanderer, The Seafarer, and The Wife s Lament, ...

The comitatus stressed the loyalty of a thane to his chieftain and treated exile and outlawry as the
most tragic lots that could befall one. This secular sense of loss is keen in The Wanderer. 6 Not
only is the loss of a lord evident in The Wanderer, but in The Seafarer and The Wife s Lament as
well.
The poem The Wanderer speaks of a man who has been exiled from his clan, and is now forced
to roam the land alone. Separation from his fellow kinsmen and lord seems to be the worst fate
imaginable. The man speaks of his great loss, remembering the time when he was happy with his
liege,
When friendships are no more. His fortune is exile,
Not gifts of fine gold; a heart that is frozen,
Earth s wisomeness dead. And he dreams of the hall men,
The dealing of treasure, the days of his youth,
When his lord bade welcome to wassail and feast.
But gone is that gladness, and never again
Shall come the loved counsel of comrade and king.
(II. 27 34)
The speaker of The Seafarer is also an outcast sailing the sea in solitude, and he speaks similarly of
his exile from his lord and kinsmen: Wretched and anxious, in the paths of exile/ Lacking dear
friends, hung round by icicles. (II. 14 15) He seems to believe that if he has lost his fellow warriors

The article Scope Management in Agile Versus Traditional Software Development Methods
(Israr Ur Rehman, et al, October 2010, NSEC 10: Proceeding for the 2010 National Software
Engineering Conference) discusses the importance of scope management, it s role and impact on
a project, and how it alone can lead projects toward failure. A well defined and well managed
scope is very important for a qualitative, cost effective and timely completion of the project (page
1). The replacement of traditional software development (Waterfall) by agile software development
methods is very apparent in cost, resources and time for the work.
Cost and resource needs are higher for traditional than Agile due to Waterfall s sequential
development phase of all requirements determined in the beginning, software design and finally
implementation of master design. The need for all information up front takes substantial time to
gather and the sequential design does not allow for project changes as the flow enters into the
programming stage. With Agile, costs remain low because there exists an incremental and iterative
approach to the project, meaning less time is used to collect all requirements up front, the

T. V. Lbo Case Summary
In 1980, at Piscataway Township High School, 14 year old T.L.O. and a peer were caught smoking
cigarettes in a school restroom which violated school rules. The two violators were taken to the
Assistant Vice Principal s office where one student confessed to smoking while the other, T.L.O.,
denied the allegation. The Assistant Vice Principal demanded T.L.O to hand over her purse where
he found cigarette papers, cigarettes, a pipe, marijuana, a list of students who owed T.L.O., and a
large amount of money. The school authorities contacted T.L.O. s mother who then brought T.L.O.

Significance of Case to Education
The landmark case New Jersey v. T.L.O. made administrators more aware of student issues and
how they can impact the entire school and community. For example, without New Jersey v. T.L.O.
the use of metal detectors in schools would not be possible; their use ensures the safety of students
and staff while on school grounds. More advanced scanning systems in airports and highway patrol
checkpoints in the 1990s have based their practice off of the decision made in this case.
This case has also set the groundwork for forthcoming cases such as Bethel School District v.
Fraser where the courts decision was based on this landmark case. It was stated that basically
students are not granted the same coextensive rights as adults in other settings outside of school .
Institutions of education still apply the decisions made in New Jersey v. T.L.O. to today s school

Carbon Dioxide Emissions in Australia and Climate Change
Market based policies are a proven way to limit carbon pollution and channel capital and innovation

EDF vice president for international climate, Nathaniel Keohan
Introduction
In a contemporary political setting, it is now broadly recognized that over the 20th century, the
atmospheric concentrations of key greenhouse gases, particularly Carbon Dioxide have been
amplified by human activity. Australia can be held accountable for around 1.5% of global
greenhouse gas emissions. However, Australia is one of the largest carbon polluters per capita,
sitting around 24.4 tonnes per person.
Much policy discussion about climate change suggests that surplus carbon emissions are the result
of failure of the market. Since the ongoing costs of environmental degradation and climate change
are not internalized in pricing fossil fuel; a commonsense (and widely flavored by policy makers in
the international community) economic solution is to internalize the cost of carbon emissions. Cap
and trade emissions trading schemes have proven largely popular in the global policy making
community, as they enable market flexibility and allow for international targets to be met.
The problem with incentive based economic mechanisms is that it is optional by nature. Relevant
parties opt in to the free market mechanism, rather than being required to participate in a policy
based mechanism. The latter however,

Fully Driverless Cars
The article I choose from WSJ this week is the developing of fully driverless cars. Back when I
was in high school, everyone was excited to get their driving license and drive to school instead
of riding the bus. But of course we had to complete the driver education class to get a permit
before actually being fully able to drive alone at certain hours of the day. Now, thinking about it,
my children probably won t even need a license, ever. They would even need to learn how to
drive. Five years from now, Ford plans to release a fully driverless car without a steering wheel or
pedals. Can you imagine not having control of something taking you places at different speeds, and
having to fully trust other drivers on the highway with you? Will the

Artificial Heart
Coronary heart disease, one of the most pervasive diseases, has influenced millions of individuals
around the globe. In 1995, 4000 patients waited for donor hearts and 731 of them died waiting
(ijates). As the number of patients suffering from heart disease increased, the demand for donor
hearts increased along with it. For this reason, it has brought biomedical engineers and researchers
closer to developing devices like defibrillators and artificial hearts that may alleviate patients pain.
Artificial hearttransplant machines are now reliable treatment options for heart failure. These
machines are utilized as a substitute until a donor organcan be found. Statistics show that this
method has resulted in an improvement of survival rate of 80% (Martin Struber). Although artificial
hearts are costly and potentially life threatening, it is conceivable that these machines may have a
more prominent part to play as their expenses diminish and technological improvements expand

The design of these hearts is close to the structure of the natural heart. The heart that humans carry
has two pumps and four chambers. The right atrium gathers oxygen drained blood and pumps it to
the lungs. The left atrium receives oxygen rich blood from the lungs to and pumps this blood out of
the body. The valves function is to control the blood flow (Raghunandan Avula). On the other hand,
artificial heart has three subsystems placed under the skin. These subsystems are the heart pump, a
pump controller, and a power source. The battery of the heart is charged with a special magnetic

Essay about Arguing Evolution
Arguing Evolution
There is a blurry and indistinct line between giving the best possible scientific support for a theory
in which one strongly believes that has only incomplete evidence, and writing a persuasive piece
that will draw people to one side of an argument based on feelings as well as facts. Indeed, there
may be no line at all, upon close inspection, but that would be an unpleasant thought to most
scientists, who value their ability to write objective reports on subjects and end up with one best
answer, because science possesses answers that are definitely and provably better than other
answers.
Unfortunately it is impossible to find all the facts needed to support some theories, and sometimes
scientific theories get ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Creationists, who are the main opponents of evolution, rarely hold unbiased debates over
unvarnished facts; that kind of debate is a scientific convention, and has little relevance to religion.
With the debate over evolution only half in the world of science unbiased debates cannot really be
used, because they only apply to the methods of one side of the debate. So emotion laden, vague
arguments are the norm.
Mayr is not, however, on the Creationist side of the debate. So would it be possible for him to
write a proper scientific report? He is, after all, writing about science. The problem with that idea
is that if he is facing off against the Creationists he must find some common battle field on which
they can meet to argue. If Creationists argue solely in terms of faith and scientists argue solely in
terms of facts they will be unable to have a discussion, because the two arguments never meet. Faith
has no more impact on facts than facts do on faith. So Creationists must make use of facts and
scientists must address emotions so that they can even debate the topic.
So arguments for one side or the other must absorb some of the traits of the opposition, but must
this be an argument? What Is Evolution? seems to be presented as an explanation of evolution,
which would conform to a definition of objective writing; the goal of objective writing is to inform

Civility In Lord Of The Flies Essay
In the Lord of the Flies Golding shows us the biggest threat to humanity is humanity itself and
the absence of civilization causes a quick descent into chaos. A group of boys stranded on a
remote island come face to face with the beast within. In the story there are characters that
represent the different egos; there s Piggy the good doer, Jack humanity if left unchecked, Ralph
the good results of limited power, Roger the corruption, and Simon the level headed. Free from the
organization and rules of society the boys plummet into barbaric savagery. On the island free from
authority the boys lost their identity and direction. Left alone, the boys were free to do as they

In Golding s novel, the lack of civilization and the corruption of power results in the deterioration
of the boys morals and the loss of their integrity. Due to the lack of authority the boys seem to
have no direction and can barely survive. Although, the boys do adopt civil rules and civility
among each other, but with authority and power comes rebellion and a desire for more power.
Lord of the Flies suggests that tyranny is the antithesis of civilization and the desires of power
disintegrated the unity of the boys group and caused many unnecessary deaths. There are many
examples of the corruption of power and the downfall of humanity due to the loss of civilization
and authority. An example of the corruption of power is the difference in the way Ralph rules
and the way Jack rules; As a ruler Ralph seemed to get more mature and when Jack made his own
tribe he became savage and craving more power, this is proof that absolute power corrupts
absolutely. Being stranded on the island left the boys left them without direction and consequence,
the result proves that a society without laws or enforcement of those laws, will unavoidably fail.
Roger s behavior emphasizes this point. Earlier on in the book he throws rocks at the littluns but
doesn t necessarily aim to hit them because he

in American history, when a fire destroyed the Asch Building which housed the Triangle Waist

The fire killed mostly young women, some of them as young as fifteen, who were paid only six

Social Contract As A Dominant Political Theory Essay
Social Contract As A Timeless Dominant Political Theory
Introduction
The concept of social contract was introduced by early thinkers like Socrates and Plato. The social
contract is a political theory that involves a tacit agreement between members of society group that
allows them to collaborate and promote mutual benefits, as well explains the legitimacy and
authority of government. This concept is further explained and defended by 17th and 18th centuries
philosophers like Hobbes, Locke and Rousseau, who helped to shape these theories and lay down
the foundation for today s democracy and the role of the government in society. Social contract
theories had a profound impact on modern Western society, specifically, America and France.
Subsequently, it had a dramatic ideological influence on the development of democracies around
the world.
However, not everyone agreed with the idea of social contract and there are other political theories
which downplay its importance in the role of the government in the community s life. Theorists,
such as Humes, Mandeville, and Smith declare there is no such contract/agreement in existence, but
rather maximizing peoples utility, market forces, and individual selfishness are the driving forces
of a given society.
Nevertheless, we need to recognize the importance of social contract because it provides a
conceptual basis for the development of a democratic and just society. In addition, social contract,

The American Dream is one of the most sought after things in the United States, even though it is
rarely, if ever, achieved. According to historian Matthew Warshauer, the vision of the American
Dream has changed dramatically over time. In his 2003 essay Who Wants to Be a Millionaire:
Changing Conceptions of the American Dream, Warshauer claims that the AmericanDream had
gone from becoming wealthy by working hard and earning money, to getting rich quickly and

traditional work ethic, far too many Americans are pinning their hopes on easy money . The
characters of Willy and his two sons, Happy and Biff, prove this. At the end of the play, Willy
kills himself in a car crash in order to get insurance money for his family, hoping that Happy and
Biff will use that money to start their own business. This shows that instead of continuing to
work and make money, he kills himself to get some easy money for his family. Also, Happy and
Biff plan on becoming successful businessmen, despite failing school. Biff dropped out of high
school after failing math, and Happy works as an assistant to an assistant in a department store,
where he makes very little money. Although Biff acknowledges his failure, Happy acts as if he
had the greatest job ever. He seems to be blissfully unaware of the world around him, and seems
to only be interested in girls than actually trying to improve his position. Both Happy and Biff
seem to expect success to come to them, hoping to make easy money . Warshauer also comments
that in a society dedicated to capitalism ... the ability to buy a big house and a nice car separates
those who are considered successful from those who are not . This is shown to be true in Death of

The Portrayal Analysis Of Martin Luther King Jr.
In the wake of the Civil Rights Era, many people in the United States were fighting for the end of
segregation. There was one man in particular who was going above and beyond to bring about
change: Martin Luther King Jr. He fought continuously for rights of African Americans even when
he was, secluded from the world, in jail. One particular time, he was arrested for protesting the
rights of African Americans in Birmingham, Alabama. Once in jail, he received criticism for his
works by fellow clergymen regarding his unwise and untimely actions (King Jr.). To combat the
comments made about him, King wrote a letter in response. He starts by giving the four basic steps

First, an apostle is defined as each of the twelve chief disciples of Jesus Christ (Apostle). They
carried the message that Jesus preached to them out into the world. So, Paul and the other
prophet s jobs were to leave their villages and go spread the gospel throughout neighboring cities
of Jesus Christ. King also references a specific instance where Paul experiences a vision. In Acts
16:6 10, Paul has a vision of a man in Macedonian that is calling for him to come and help the
people there (Acts 16). The next day, Paul heads to a major city in the region to begin serving
the people (Acts 16). This is the first Biblical reference found in the letter that King uses in
supporting his points. Martin Luther King Jr. uses Paul s story to show the commonalities
between each other and their actions. He states, like Paul, I must constantly respond to the
Macedonian call for aid (King Jr.). This is a powerful analogy where King shows his feelings of
constantly being called to go out and serve others in need (King Jr.). He feels that until equality
is granted to everyone, there will be a need for him to go and serve. To King, this is a feeling of
being compelled to carry the gospel of freedom beyond [his] particular hometown (qtd Aeschliman).
Specifically, he is showing that he is in Birmingham because of this calling to take action against
the injustice. King shows that Paul

Love In Love And The Relationshipful Aspects Of Love
Throughout life, many individuals are blessed in certain aspects of their lives. These aspects

Essay On Port Royal
Introduction
In the Civil War, there were many battles and key points that helped in the victory of the Union.
The Battle of Port Royal was the second battle of the Civil War. The Battle of Port Royal
culminated an amphibious operation designed to establish a United States military depot on the
southeastern coast to carry out land and sea operations against the Confederacy (Wise 2016). This
battle gave the Union its first victory. In November 1861 the Union attacked the Confederate at Port

Kamala Purnaiya Taylor is an Indian novelist and journalist from Mysore in southern India. Being a
very private person in nature, her literature is usually written under the pseudonym of Kamala
Markandaya. After studying history at the University of Madras, she worked as a journalist and
published short stories in Indian newspapers. A couple of years after she immigrated to England
with her English husband, Markandaya published her first novel, Nectar in the Sieve.
This novel won several awards, was chosen as a Book of the Month Club Main Selection in the
United States, and the American Library Association named it a notable book in 1955. Despite her
success, Markandaya remained an extremely private person, revealing little about her personal life
and influences. Even so, insight can be gained into her work by evaluating the religious, political,
and social contexts of her writing.
Having been raised in India as a Hindu Brahmin, in her work, Markandaya addresses a
fundamental question of Hindu belief: What does it mean to be human? Her Hindu beliefs, and
traditions are central to Nectar in a Sieve, and remnants of the epic Ramayana, one of the best loved

Nicolas Poussin s The Plague At Ashdod
The Plague at Ashdod is Nicolas Poussin s most frequently studied and celebrated plague paintings
of the seventeenth century. The painting represents the Old Testament story from passages in the
First Book of Samuel. According to the scriptures, the Philistines had stolen the Ark of the
Covenant and brought it to the statue of Dagon. This angered God and he plagued the citizens of
Ashdod with tumors and swarmed the territory with rats. In 1630, while Poussin worked on the
painting, Italywas stricken with the worst outbreak of the bubonic plague. This had a major
influence on his depiction of the Old Testament story. Sheila Barker s Poussin, Plague, and Early
Modern Medicine offers the beliefs surrounding Poussin s medical and spiritual knowledge of the
plague. Christine Boeckl s The Miracle of the Ark in the Temple of Dagon makes connections to

Religious Experience Research Paper
The term religious experience can come up with a wide range and diverse series of images. We
might assume that it can include anything from a prayer, to attending a service at a place of
worship, to even hearing the voice of God . The argument for the existence of God based on
religious experience is in fact a posteriori as it is based on people s encounters with God. Unlike
other arguments, the argument is based on a direct link to God if we are able to show that God
is experienced then we therefore cannot deny his existence. Many people are more likely to
believe something if it has been experienced. Our experience of God is the best evidence we have
that God exists.

Presidential Election Of The United States Essay
Presidential debates in the Unites States are a hot topic around the world. Even though American
voters have the role of choosing the next president, people from many different countries tend to
heed interest in the elections, due to the fact that the president of the United States has such an
influence in locations around the world. People rely on the media to obtain factual information
about the presidential candidates, their political stances, and interests in foreign affairs. The fact
that information about the presidential candidates can be distributed worldwide by the media is
wonderful. Even though this sounds wonderful, it is possible that statements during the debates,
or results from them, can be portrayed with bias by the media, or even censored. So, there is a
possibility that the interpretation of the American presidential candidates, by people around the
world, may be altered after a debate. This change could be influenced by the debate itself, or by
media releasing information about the debates. This will be performed by showing the effect
debates and media have on voters in the United Statesof America, academic journals regarding

Attend Service At Two Different Jewish Churches Essay
I chose to attend service at two different Jewish churches. The first one was Congregation Gesher
L Torah in Alpharetta, Georgia and the second was Congregation Beth Hallel in Roswell, Georgia.
Though both were of the Judaism religion, there were some differences. I attended a Friday night
service at Congregation Gesher L Torah. My apprehensions about being black and going to a
Jewish church made me invite a friend to go with me. I was glad I did, as the stares and long looks
we got during the service validated my concerns.
The church was rather small, but quite modern. There was a small playground in the back for
children to play. All of the windows were made of beautiful stained glass. As we approached the
church, we could see the Star of David positioned high in a large stained glass window. We
spoke to a lady who was exiting the church as we were coming in, but she said nothing. Once
inside, a man who was ushering came over to us and said, Shabbat Shalom . I had been greeted
with Shalom many time before at my old church, but never Shabbat Shalom . I didn t know what
was appropriate to say, but somehow Shalom came spilling out of my mouth, and the usher
nodded. He gave us two books, Siddur Sim Shalom (a prayer book) and Gesher L Tefillah (another
prayer book). My friend and I found it hard to follow the prayers and songs from each book because
most of the text was in Hebrew and the Siddur Sim Shalom opened and was to be read from the
back of the book with the pages

The Six Cultural Differences Of Barbie In China
Introduction
Mattel attempted to incorporate Barbie into China by opening a Barbie store. The business failed
due to Mattel not researching the market and how to incorporate the products into the Chinese
market. There are many cultural differences that Mattel needed to take into consideration before
they attempted to bring Barbie to China. Problems Mattel Faced
According to Wang (2012), Mattel did not fully understand what Chinese girls and women wanted
from a doll. Femininity is different in China compared to what it can be defined as in the United
States. Mattel opened a large store in Shanghai that not only had Barbie dolls, but also
accessories and activities for consumers such as a runway and dressing rooms. The Barbie doll
was not an icon in China like it has become in the United States and the store suffered because the
relevance of Barbie and associated products was not a part of what the Chinese girls wanted. Six
Cultural Issues and Mattel Performance
Values and Attitudes
The Chinese people want to have relationships with possible business partners before they do
business with them. The Chinese believe in socializing and getting to know people as a way to
see what type of person they will be dealing with. This is called guanxi (Firoz, Nadeem M.
Topchaya, Olga, 2016). Chinese businesses will not focus on efficiency and view change as
disruptive to their business. When Mattel brought the Barbie store into Shanghai, the Chinese
people did not know Mattel and how Mattel would be conducting business in their city. This caused
uncertainty and Chinese people not knowing if they wanted to do business with Mattel.
Dress codes
Chinese women tend to dress more conservatively. Chinese women often do not wear midriff shirts
or plunging necklines, but tend to wear clothes that do not accentuate their body and curves(Aaker
Schmitt, 2001). Barbie is known to have curves and tight fitting clothing that more fits the western
culture.
Marketing styles differences
When marketing in China you need to focus on the consumers getting to know the product before
placing it in stores or opening a new business. The Barbie store opened in a single location in a
large country which could be

trained employees to undertake this job. This involved double checking there work.
Tort Law
Water Corporations shows negligence, through incorrectly connecting the water to the wrong block.
This shows that they did not provide a duty of care, and attention to skill in identifying the correct

My Story Of The School Year Of 2010-2011
My story begins in the school year of 2010 2011. I was a fifth grader, eleven years of age, at
Santa Fe 5/6 Center. As per requirements we had to take a music class, and I knew that I could
not sing, so an instrument it was. Most of that year I spent experimenting with wind and string
instruments to find out if I belonged in band or orchestra. I was never really interested in any of
the wind instrument so I atleast knew I was going to be in orchestra. The year ended with me being
skeptical to if I should play an instrument or not.
With the next school year approaching fast I had to make my decision. A few days before sixth
grade started, Santa Fe hosted a little music assembly for the students and their parents to come and
enjoy music and also to provide instruments for the students to try out and possibly buy. I remember
walking around a tad bit nervous looking for an instrument and that s when I heard someone start
playing the cello. I turned to look and saw a man, Mr. Stanley, who later I found out was my cello
teacher, playing the cello. He played so beautifully it inspired me. The warm, rich tone of the cello
filled the room and I remember almost everyone stopped what they were doing just to listen to him
play. I think mother saw the glint in my eyes when I first listened to the cello and she knew that
was my choice. After Mr. Stanley s little performance was done, I approached him and bombarded
him with questions. In the end Mother ended up buying a three fourths

The Future Of Currency Essay
The Future of Currency nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;In the present day, the world s economy is
ever changing and adjusting. Many different reasons control the reasons for this. The future of
currency is something that can only be predicted and is not guaranteed. However, there are many
determing factors behind the changes that can take place. Asia and North America are two
continents that have economies that have recently changed or are in the midst of change. World
War 2 drew a hard blow and left a serious and lasting effect to many Asian countries. This however,
did not hamper the growth of countries such as China, Japan and Vietnam as their governments
were taking serious steps to recover economically. Thus, the global market cannot... Show more

In accordance to this, China went on a construction binge. Whole factories were purchased from
abroad while others were built with local resources. By 1978, the frenzy for new projects
reached a level that reminded some people of the Great Leap Forward. In an effort to promote
agricultural production, the government released many of the restrictions on the spontaneous
capitalist tendencies of the peasantry. (173) In the late 1980 s, the government decided to
expand the scope of private marketing. The next step was to increase the amount land assigned
to the peasants. The peasants were now not responsible to the government for the use they made
to the private plots. They simply could grow what they wished, for the sale to the government or
to private markets. This led to furious rebuilding and inflow of foreign investments. All this
enabled China to remake itself into Asian s hub of finance, trade and culture. By 1984, they
were producing more than $1 million worth of rice and a range of side products, including rice
wine. Their residential earning was up to about $200 a year. (Prager 52 ) This meant that they
could begin replacing their mud and straw hats with solid brick houses. Shanghai today is a vast
construction site with more than 20,000 projects, with 27,000 companies building bridges, tunnels,
flyovers, ring roads, hotels, villas, golf courses and also public housing. This sparked national
growth of about 10% a year.( 53 ) The Chinese now are going home

Evolution Of Quilting
The event, I attended in the National Museum of African American History Culture was on the An
Evolution of Expression: Sundance Star Quilt at 20th October, 2016. It was an exhibition on
Quilts; a tradition that expresses global culture, diversity and gender. This was the most prized
celebration and American Indian quilts are special crafts in the national museum of the American
Indian. Kendra Greendeer described the patterns and how quilting was a part in the life of
community for Lakota woman. This is a most creative craft found in the world and famous among
woman, though history of quilting is not limited to some particular regions.
Joanne hyppolite and Elaine Nichols served as curators for African Americanquilters, argued the
evolution of quilting through a diversified styles, patterns and symbols. These stylized patterns are
depicting the blends of various traditions and cultures. We also enjoyed the Sundance star of grace
zimiga for the time of 1980 and that was depicting the rock reservation style of north and South
Dakota. The member who created the quilt was from a tribe of Lakota and the star quilt presented
there was termed as morning star by their communities. Other names for the same product are Lone

Essay On Abortion In The United States
The topic of abortion in the United States remains one of the most controversial, divisive, and
painful subjects in contemporary society. Traditionally, an abortion is defined as removing or
expelling the fetus from the womb before it is ready for birth. This may comprise spontaneous
abortion, which is often referred to as a miscarriage or induced abortion, in which someone the
woman herself, a layperson, or a doctor purposefully causes the abortion. The term is commonly
used to refer to the induced abortion, and this is the abortion, which has been filled with
controversy. In the developed nations, induced abortion is known to be one of the safest procedures
in medicine if it is conducted under the local law (Raymond 2014). Thus, abortions are arguably the
most common medical procedures performed in the United Statesannually. According to studies
released by the Guttmacher Institute, there were about 1.06 million abortions performed in this
country in 2011. Research by the same group also shows that approximately half of all pregnancies
were unintended, with four out of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sides involved in the debate are basically divided by party lines, generally with liberals as
pro choice and conservatives as pro life. Religion plays an important role in directing people
towards a certain position on the subject. Some Christians believe in life after death. They also
believe that life begins immediately at conception, the moment when an egg is fertilized by a
sperm. Buddhists believe in reincarnation while atheists do not believe in God tend to be
advocates of the right to choose. This means that perception and focus are the key issues when
people from any faith choose to be supporters or opponents of any contentious issue like

Conflicts
Conflict means a struggle or problem between two opposing groups or individuals. There are two
types of conflict: internal and external conflict. An internal conflict is a struggle that is
internalized and deals with choices, consequences, or emotions. An internal conflict is a man vs.
self struggle. An external conflict is a struggle between the protagonist and another character
against nature or some outside force. External conflicts are either man verses man, man verses
nature, or man verses society. Various examples of internal and external conflicts can be shown in
Guy de Maupassant s The Necklace, Richard Connell s The Most Dangerous Game, and O.Henry
s, The Gift of the Magi. Firstly, Guy de Maupassant s The Necklace shows... Show more content on

He is put into a situation where he has to swim until he finds shelter. He swims, and for a
seemingly endless time he fought the sea (Connell 42). After a while, he found an island called
Ship Trap Island. So, this shows how he fought against nature. Another example of conflict in
this story is when Rainsford has to fight against General Zaroff, who is an expert at hunting
humans on Ship Trap Island. As Rainsford gets challenged by Zaroff, he says, Thank you, I m a
hunter, not a murderer (49). This shows an example of another external conflict. But, this one is
a man verses man conflict because Rainsford is facing a problem with another character in the
story. Therefore, Rainsford faces many situations where he has to choose between life or death.
Lastly, examples of conflict can be shown in The Gift of the Magi by O.Henry. This story is
about a cute couple that is willing to do anything to buy each other Christmas presents. An
internal conflict faced by Della Young, the protagonist, is when she does not have enough money
to buy her husband Jim a present. All Della had was one dollar and eighty seven cents. And the
next day would be Christmas (O. Henry 153). To get more money, Della sells her most prized
possession, which is her hair. After Della and Jim finally bought their presents by selling their most
prized possessions, another conflict arose. Della bought Jim a chain for his watch, and Jim bought
Della hair combs that she

  • 2. The Future Of Electric Cars Essay Electric cars are becoming very popular in today s world and are becoming more main stream. One reason for this is the need for automobiles that have a lower or a zero carbon footprint. For the majority of the history of the automobile, the propulsion system was a gas or a diesel engine that would run off of fossil fuels. The burning of fossil fuels is very hazardous to our world and also creates much toxic pollution. However, electric cars run off of electricity, which is a very clean and pollution free resource, depending on how the electricity was produced of course. In this paper we are going to examine the history of electric cars, look into modern electric car technology, and peer into the future of electric car technology to see if EVs might be the answer to dramatically reducing our global pollution. In the 1800s the development of the battery and the electric motor led to the first electric vehicles on the road. It is hard to pinpoint the invention of the electric car to just one inventor or country so several inventors have been given credit for the invention of the electric car. A Hungarian named Anyos Jedlik invented a small model car powered by an electric motor in 1828. And roughly between the years of 1832 and 1839, Robert Anderson of Scotland invented a crude electric carriage. Also in 1835 Professor Stratingh of Groningen, Holland built another small electric car with his assistant Christopher Becker. There was another inventor named Thomas ... This work reviews the presentations Finite elements for accurate, large scale quantum mechanical materials calculations: from classical to enriched to discontinuous by Pask (2014). The review will be structured to consider motivations through the aim of achieving the desired outcomes, prior work related to the concept discussed with views of the uniqueness of the work, methodology, and results as well as the critiques emanating from the work. Motivation The work demonstrates the use of finite element techniques in solving the equations to model structures in the form of wave function representation. These equations to be solved are made in the form of Kohn Sham equation to enable the calculations of large scale quantum mechanical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this method, the challenges from that emanated from the previous methods are solved through the development of a quicker way that solves the same problems in a short duration. The goal of the project was to obtain an easier methodology that can help in solving systems of eigen problems. In particular the study aimed at obtaining anything that solve a collection of problems. The new methodology adopted not only maintains the solution requirements but also introduces systematic improvability. Through the new insights added to the new method which distinguishes it from the previous methodologies, the required accuracy coupled with a fewer degree of freedom can be achieved. Methodology and key results The methodology surrounds the solution of a quantum mechanical Schrodinger equation for large complex systems such as insulating or metallic materials at either ambient or extreme conditions. The wave equation is first modified in the form of Kohn Sham equation. The solution is then derived from the assumption that there is a linear combination of piecewise polynomials. The formulation of the Schrodinger problem within the infinite crystal is then reduced using the boundary value problem within the confines of a unit finite cell which is then extended to the crystal potential which consists of an array of atoms. The formulation showed that for higher derivatives of the first order, there exist finite discontinuities at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Technology Impact On Lifestyle Technology: The Impact on Health and Lifestyle Many people these days tend to shy from person to person conversations. Why? Because of technology, people these days lack the experience and courage to speak to each other without being timid or awkward. It has become a normal habit in our society to communicate through phones and laptops. Day by day, our generation is slowly developing a horrible future by losing social skills. Majority of of the current generation believe that internet is important and that we need technology to communicate. Also, humans believe that living a healthy life is important. Who knew that spending too much time with technology is causing human health to fade? Technology could possibly kill us or harm our health in numerous unspeakable ways. Something as simple as holding a phone, texting, watching T.V, or playing video games can have a significant effect on our health. Electronical devices start as far back as 1835 when Joseph Henry, who was an American scientist, created the first electronical remote device. Joseph created a remote switch that was used as part of a telegraph. Henry s remote idea was later used for improving telephones. Electronics were first invented to help people communicate and/or improve their everyday lives. They were meant to enhance people s lives by making life easier. These days, those factors have been replaced from being helpful to being used for personal pleasure. Now, people are using electronic devices in improper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay on Judging by the Cover Judging by the Cover, is an essay written in 2003 by Bonny Gainley who is a consultant, speaker, and author. It originally appeared in an opinion column in a Colorado newspaper. Although non discriminatory, she believes that people project messages about themselves with their appearance. This essay seems to be intended for recent graduates and young job seekers. The main point that she tries to explain to the reader is that even though our family and friends may accept us for who we are, employers may not. Gainley does make some really good points when discussing why people need to be aware of how they look. She seems to be trying to talk about too many issues in such a short article and it becomes very confusing and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This paragraph was hard to understand. She seems to be trying to explain to the reader that although you should not judge a book by its cover, businesses often make assumptions by their appearance. Dress codes exist for a reason. Sometimes it is for safety reasons but sometimes it s just about what the employers or clients are willing to accept. If a certain look or appearance might make a client uncomfortable then the company will decide that such an appearance is inappropriate or might pose an unnecessary risk for that company. While it does not seem right, employers do care about our appearance. Jobs exist to make money and right now there is a tough job market. With a lot of people out there looking for jobs, employers can afford to be picky. This is not about human rights and freedom, but about free enterprise. People are told to not discriminate against someone for something an applicant can t control, and doing so would be illegal. With that being said, visible tattoos and body piercing are something very much controllable. She uses a very good example that runners would be at a disadvantage if they were to run 100 meters wearing combat boots. People who choose to have piercings and tattoos put themselves at a disadvantage. Imagine if 2 people walked into a job for an interview. They both had the same amount of experience, but one is dressed in a nice suite ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Persuasive Essay On Recycling With the rapidly increasing use of plastic, aluminum, and paper materials, it only makes sense that the problem we chose to focus on is recycling. In the world of engineering, recycling has been a hot topic for many years, so for one to say that deriving an idea that hasn t been done before is difficult, that would be an understatement. As any group of well educated engineers would, we started our journey at the drawing board. The brainstormingprocess was potentially the most time consuming section of our task, given we easily spent over fifteen hours spouting off ideas and concepts for anything that we thought we could do that we could patent. We then realized it wasn t just about us getting a patented idea, it was about making a difference. So, we then realized something that could make a difference is one of the things that we have been taught the importance of since we were in elementary school. That was recycling. Now that the first step of the brainstorming process was over, which was finding a general problem area, we then needed to figure out what in the world it was that we were going to do that no one else had done before. After a couple of days of brainstorming, we quickly realized that instead of coming up with a fresh idea, innovating what is imperfect was the perfect way to approach this. In order to find where the problems laid, we had to go to the consumer. We began asking our friends, family, and even a few random people what they thought the biggest issue was that was hindering them from recycling. After a few conversations, accessibility and attraction seemed to be the greatest factors. With this in mind, we of course went back to the brainstorming process to figure out what exactly it was that we were going to to do and how we would do it. After a few off the wall ideas, followed by some mediocre ones, we decided we were going to innovate the recycling bin itself. We figured up a plan to make the bin something that people could interact with and that could shred whatever recyclable material that you put in it without requiring electric power. We then went with a slow, torque based, hand crank that would be attached to some sort of shredding mechanism, one strong enough to shred even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When customers are getting new service they may be asked how they chose this cable company from television advertisement, radio, internet or friend. When a customer cancels their service they may ask them, why did you cancel your service and what would help you continue your service. • 9. The Importance Of Indoor Air Pollution Julia Henderson H Environmental 11/10/17 Project Indoor air quality at Stanwich is important for the health and comfort of teachers and students. Understanding and controlling common pollutants indoors can help reduce health concerns. There are many things that cause air pollution in our building including paint, heating system, cleaning sprays, furniture and other materials. These pollutants can cause allergies, scratchy eyes, skin irritation and headaches. An approach to reducing air pollutants inside building is the use of plants and soil microorganisms. Outside air quality depends on plants and microorganisms. Living in buildings away from plants even without being exposed to chemicals, still exposes us to human waste products that cause indoor air pollution problems. What Causes of Indoor Air Problems The primary cause of poor indoor air quality are sources that release gases or particles into the air. Poor ventilation can increase indoor pollution by not bringing in enough outdoor fresh air into the class that reduce the emissions from indoor pollution. Also, indoor air pollution is not carried out of the class area. High classroom temperature and humidity levels can also increase concentrations of some pollutants. Pollutant Sources There are many sources of indoor air pollution. These can include: Building materials and furnishings as diverse as: Deteriorated asbestos containing insulation Newly installed flooring, upholstery or carpet Cabinetry or ... Lenovo Marketing Lenovo Acquisition Analysis Product/Brand decisions: Some of the issues Lenovo had to deal with in the acquisition of IBM was how to capitalize on the marriage of brands and how to win corporate respect with the Lenovo brand. The acquisition allowed Lenovo to move quickly into the international marketplace. Given that IBM had one of the most trusted brands around the world, this allowed Lenovo to build on past IBM s reputation. Just before the acquisition Lenovo had negotiated an Olympic sponsorship in order to introduce the world to the brand. Lenovo would also be able to continue to use the IBM logo for five years as part of the acquisition which they intended to leverage. The promotion strategy led to a three phase advertising plan. First, they ran a worldwide campaign where each ad ended with a mention of the ThinkPad instead of Lenovo to reassure customer and maintain the ThinkPad momentum. The second campaign was labeled ThinkPad Unleashed which ran during the Olympics to emphasis that the ThinkPad was being made even better. A feminist (that is, a participant in the cultural, political, and theoretical currents surrounding the advocacy of the rights of women), she has published more than a dozen books and has been active in debates ranging from lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transsexual rights to Middle Eastern politics. She works on identity issues and prejudice against minorities, having personal experience of both. Butler intervened in these debates by questioning the very idea of stable gender identity. THE ANSWER No political revolution is possible without a radical shift in one s notion of the possible and the real. Judith Butler, Gender Trouble: Feminism and the Subversion of Identity Judith Butler argues that gender becomes ВґrealВґ by a person unconsciously acting in ways that are accepted to be masculine or feminine and that even biological sex is a product of culture. Gender is imposed through patterns of thought in the society, but history shows that identities have changed over time, then it is impossible to say that they are fixed and eternal. Gender Trouble is an original and radical text that employs for political ends the analytical methods of poststructuralist theory (and its challenge to categories and ideas of objective truth). • 12. Theme Of The Zoo Story The Zoo Story is said to be the most impressive debut ever made by an American dramatist (Bigsby 129). The title of the play, The Zoo Story, is a significant title as it shows that it is not a story about someone who visits the zoo and sees the animals, but it shows how the protagonist, Jerry, lives with his neighbors. Although they are living in a rooming house, they are isolated from each other in their rooms, like animals, and unable to form relationship even with the landlady s dog (Hayman 189), like the animals in the zoo who live in cages. When he met Peter at the park, he decided to make communication with him through telling him stories. He begins to tell him about his life, where he lives, his neighbors that he never speaks with, and how the landlady tries to satisfy her needs, especially the sexual ones through harassing him whenever he comes back to his room and finally to attract him more. He tells Peter about his story with the dog. But after all of these stories, he fails to have any communication with Peter. Robert S. Wallace says that what Jerry fails to realize, is that his use of words has added to his isolation (152). His words as well had separated him from the audience and separated the audience from the play. Wallace believes that Jerry manages to communicate with Peter through body language not through verbal language (154). Mary M. Nilan believes that the reason for lack of communication in society is because that the concept of love has demolished (128). The Anglo Saxon poems, The Wanderer, The Seafarer, and The Wife s Lament The Old English, or Anglo Saxon, era of England lasted from about 450 1066 A.D. The tribes from Germany that conquered Britain in the fifth century carried with them both the Old English language and a detailed poetic tradition. The tradition included alliteration, stressed and unstressed syllables, but more importantly, the poetry was usually mournful, reflecting on suffering and loss.1These sorrowful poems from the Anglo Saxon time period are mimetic to the Anglo Saxons themselves; they reflect the often burdened and miserable lives and times of the people who created them. The poem The Wanderer speaks of a man who has been exiled from his clan, and is now forced to roam the land alone. Separation from his fellow kinsmen and lord seems to be the worst fate imaginable. The man speaks of his great loss, remembering the time when he was happy with his liege, When friendships are no more. Analysis Of Hy Vee Corporate Headquarters ASSIGNMENT #9(AGILE VS WATERFALL)MICHELLE WICHMAN DUE DATE: 21JUN2015 POINTS POSSIBLE: 100 OVERVIEW: Hy Vee Corporate headquarters is based in West Des Moines and is an employee owned supermarket. As of 2015, Hy Vee has 233 stores across eight Midwestern states and $6.9B in annual revenue. The article Scope Management in Agile Versus Traditional Software Development Methods (Israr Ur Rehman, et al, October 2010, NSEC 10: Proceeding for the 2010 National Software Engineering Conference) discusses the importance of scope management, it s role and impact on a project, and how it alone can lead projects toward failure. A well defined and well managed scope is very important for a qualitative, cost effective and timely completion of the project (page 1). The replacement of traditional software development (Waterfall) by agile software development methods is very apparent in cost, resources and time for the work. Cost and resource needs are higher for traditional than Agile due to Waterfall s sequential development phase of all requirements determined in the beginning, software design and finally implementation of master design. The need for all information up front takes substantial time to gather and the sequential design does not allow for project changes as the flow enters into the programming stage. With Agile, costs remain low because there exists an incremental and iterative approach to the project, meaning less time is used to collect all requirements up front, the ... • 20. Carbon Dioxide Emissions in Australia and Climate Change Market based policies are a proven way to limit carbon pollution and channel capital and innovation into clean energy, helping to avert the catastrophic consequences of climate change EDF vice president for international climate, Nathaniel Keohan Introduction In a contemporary political setting, it is now broadly recognized that over the 20th century, the atmospheric concentrations of key greenhouse gases, particularly Carbon Dioxide have been amplified by human activity. Australia can be held accountable for around 1.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions. However, Australia is one of the largest carbon polluters per capita, sitting around 24.4 tonnes per person. Much policy discussion about climate change suggests that surplus carbon emissions are the result of failure of the market. Since the ongoing costs of environmental degradation and climate change are not internalized in pricing fossil fuel; a commonsense (and widely flavored by policy makers in the international community) economic solution is to internalize the cost of carbon emissions. Cap and trade emissions trading schemes have proven largely popular in the global policy making community, as they enable market flexibility and allow for international targets to be met. The problem with incentive based economic mechanisms is that it is optional by nature. Relevant parties opt in to the free market mechanism, rather than being required to participate in a policy based mechanism. The latter however, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1995, 4000 patients waited for donor hearts and 731 of them died waiting (ijates). As the number of patients suffering from heart disease increased, the demand for donor hearts increased along with it. For this reason, it has brought biomedical engineers and researchers closer to developing devices like defibrillators and artificial hearts that may alleviate patients pain. Artificial hearttransplant machines are now reliable treatment options for heart failure. These machines are utilized as a substitute until a donor organcan be found. Statistics show that this method has resulted in an improvement of survival rate of 80% (Martin Struber). Essay about Arguing Evolution Arguing Evolution There is a blurry and indistinct line between giving the best possible scientific support for a theory in which one strongly believes that has only incomplete evidence, and writing a persuasive piece that will draw people to one side of an argument based on feelings as well as facts. Indeed, there may be no line at all, upon close inspection, but that would be an unpleasant thought to most scientists, who value their ability to write objective reports on subjects and end up with one best answer, because science possesses answers that are definitely and provably better than other answers. The Creationists, who are the main opponents of evolution, rarely hold unbiased debates over unvarnished facts; that kind of debate is a scientific convention, and has little relevance to religion. With the debate over evolution only half in the world of science unbiased debates cannot really be used, because they only apply to the methods of one side of the debate. So emotion laden, vague arguments are the norm. Mayr is not, however, on the Creationist side of the debate. So would it be possible for him to write a proper scientific report? He is, after all, writing about science. The problem with that idea is that if he is facing off against the Creationists he must find some common battle field on which they can meet to argue. If Creationists argue solely in terms of faith and scientists argue solely in terms of facts they will be unable to have a discussion, because the two arguments never meet. Faith has no more impact on facts than facts do on faith. So Creationists must make use of facts and scientists must address emotions so that they can even debate the topic. So arguments for one side or the other must absorb some of the traits of the opposition, but must this be an argument? An example of the corruption of power is the difference in the way Ralph rules and the way Jack rules; As a ruler Ralph seemed to get more mature and when Jack made his own tribe he became savage and craving more power, this is proof that absolute power corrupts absolutely. Social Contract As A Dominant Political Theory Essay Social Contract As A Timeless Dominant Political Theory Introduction The concept of social contract was introduced by early thinkers like Socrates and Plato. The social contract is a political theory that involves a tacit agreement between members of society group that allows them to collaborate and promote mutual benefits, as well explains the legitimacy and authority of government. This concept is further explained and defended by 17th and 18th centuries philosophers like Hobbes, Locke and Rousseau, who helped to shape these theories and lay down the foundation for today s democracy and the role of the government in society. Social contract theories had a profound impact on modern Western society, specifically, America and France. Subsequently, it had a dramatic ideological influence on the development of democracies around the world. However, not everyone agreed with the idea of social contract and there are other political theories which downplay its importance in the role of the government in the community s life. Theorists, such as Humes, Mandeville, and Smith declare there is no such contract/agreement in existence, but rather maximizing peoples utility, market forces, and individual selfishness are the driving forces of a given society. King also references a specific instance where Paul experiences a vision. In Acts 16:6 10, Paul has a vision of a man in Macedonian that is calling for him to come and help the people there (Acts 16). The next day, Paul heads to a major city in the region to begin serving the people (Acts 16). This is the first Biblical reference found in the letter that King uses in supporting his points. This is a powerful analogy where King shows his feelings of constantly being called to go out and serve others in need (King Jr.). • 38. Religious Experience Research Paper The term religious experience can come up with a wide range and diverse series of images. We might assume that it can include anything from a prayer, to attending a service at a place of worship, to even hearing the voice of God . The argument for the existence of God based on religious experience is in fact a posteriori as it is based on people s encounters with God. Unlike other arguments, the argument is based on a direct link to God if we are able to show that God is experienced then we therefore cannot deny his existence. Many people are more likely to believe something if it has been experienced. Our experience of God is the best evidence we have that God exists. There are many definitions of religious experience which include one from Rudolph Otto who stated the term numinous for the feeling of the presence of a greater being, which is with you but yet somehow ... First there s a sense of noetic quality, which means that by virtue of the experience the subject becomes aware of some revelation. Also Religious experiences tend to be transient, so that whilst the experience may have a profound effect upon the subject, it lasts a relatively short period of time, and often the details are forgotten afterwards. Even though American voters have the role of choosing the next president, people from many different countries tend to heed interest in the elections, due to the fact that the president of the United States has such an influence in locations around the world. People rely on the media to obtain factual information about the presidential candidates, their political stances, and interests in foreign affairs. • 41. Attend Service At Two Different Jewish Churches Essay I chose to attend service at two different Jewish churches. The first one was Congregation Gesher L Torah in Alpharetta, Georgia and the second was Congregation Beth Hallel in Roswell, Georgia. Though both were of the Judaism religion, there were some differences. I attended a Friday night service at Congregation Gesher L Torah. My apprehensions about being black and going to a Jewish church made me invite a friend to go with me. I was glad I did, as the stares and long looks we got during the service validated my concerns. The church was rather small, but quite modern. There was a small playground in the back for children to play. All of the windows were made of beautiful stained glass. As we approached the church, we could see the Star of David positioned high in a large stained glass window. We spoke to a lady who was exiting the church as we were coming in, but she said nothing. Once inside, a man who was ushering came over to us and said, Shabbat Shalom . I had been greeted with Shalom many time before at my old church, but never Shabbat Shalom . I didn t know what was appropriate to say, but somehow Shalom came spilling out of my mouth, and the usher nodded. He gave us two books, Siddur Sim Shalom (a prayer book) and Gesher L Tefillah (another prayer book). My friend and I found it hard to follow the prayers and songs from each book because most of the text was in Hebrew and the Siddur Sim Shalom opened and was to be read from the back of the book with the pages ... • 42. The Six Cultural Differences Of Barbie In China Introduction Mattel attempted to incorporate Barbie into China by opening a Barbie store. The business failed due to Mattel not researching the market and how to incorporate the products into the Chinese market. There are many cultural differences that Mattel needed to take into consideration before they attempted to bring Barbie to China. Problems Mattel Faced According to Wang (2012), Mattel did not fully understand what Chinese girls and women wanted from a doll. Femininity is different in China compared to what it can be defined as in the United States. Mattel opened a large store in Shanghai that not only had Barbie dolls, but also accessories and activities for consumers such as a runway and dressing rooms. The Barbie doll was not an icon in China like it has become in the United States and the store suffered because the relevance of Barbie and associated products was not a part of what the Chinese girls wanted. Six Cultural Issues and Mattel Performance Values and Attitudes The Chinese people want to have relationships with possible business partners before they do business with them. The Chinese believe in socializing and getting to know people as a way to see what type of person they will be dealing with. This is called guanxi (Firoz, Nadeem M. Topchaya, Olga, 2016). Chinese businesses will not focus on efficiency and view change as disruptive to their business. When Mattel brought the Barbie store into Shanghai, the Chinese people did not know Mattel and how Mattel would be conducting business in their city. This caused uncertainty and Chinese people not knowing if they wanted to do business with Mattel. Dress codes Chinese women tend to dress more conservatively. Chinese women often do not wear midriff shirts or plunging necklines, but tend to wear clothes that do not accentuate their body and curves(Aaker Schmitt, 2001). Barbie is known to have curves and tight fitting clothing that more fits the western culture. Marketing styles differences When marketing in China you need to focus on the consumers getting to know the product before placing it in stores or opening a new business. As per requirements we had to take a music class, and I knew that I could not sing, so an instrument it was. Most of that year I spent experimenting with wind and string instruments to find out if I belonged in band or orchestra. I was never really interested in any of the wind instrument so I atleast knew I was going to be in orchestra. The year ended with me being skeptical to if I should play an instrument or not. With the next school year approaching fast I had to make my decision. A few days before sixth grade started, Santa Fe hosted a little music assembly for the students and their parents to come and enjoy music and also to provide instruments for the students to try out and possibly buy. I remember walking around a tad bit nervous looking for an instrument and that s when I heard someone start playing the cello. I turned to look and saw a man, Mr. Stanley, who later I found out was my cello teacher, playing the cello. He played so beautifully it inspired me. The warm, rich tone of the cello filled the room and I remember almost everyone stopped what they were doing just to listen to him play. I think mother saw the glint in my eyes when I first listened to the cello and she knew that was my choice. After Mr. Stanley s little performance was done, I approached him and bombarded him with questions. In the end Mother ended up buying a three fourths ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By 1978, the frenzy for new projects reached a level that reminded some people of the Great Leap Forward. In an effort to promote agricultural production, the government released many of the restrictions on the spontaneous capitalist tendencies of the peasantry. (173) In the late 1980 s, the government decided to expand the scope of private marketing. The next step was to increase the amount land assigned to the peasants. The peasants were now not responsible to the government for the use they made to the private plots. They simply could grow what they wished, for the sale to the government or to private markets. This led to furious rebuilding and inflow of foreign investments. All this enabled China to remake itself into Asian s hub of finance, trade and culture. • 49. Conflicts Conflict means a struggle or problem between two opposing groups or individuals. There are two types of conflict: internal and external conflict. An internal conflict is a struggle that is internalized and deals with choices, consequences, or emotions. An internal conflict is a man vs. self struggle. An external conflict is a struggle between the protagonist and another character against nature or some outside force. External conflicts are either man verses man, man verses nature, or man verses society. He swims, and for a seemingly endless time he fought the sea (Connell 42). After a while, he found an island called Ship Trap Island. So, this shows how he fought against nature. Another example of conflict in this story is when Rainsford has to fight against General Zaroff, who is an expert at hunting humans on Ship Trap Island. As Rainsford gets challenged by Zaroff, he says, Thank you, I m a hunter, not a murderer (49). This shows an example of another external conflict. But, this one is a man verses man conflict because Rainsford is facing a problem with another character in the story. Therefore, Rainsford faces many situations where he has to choose between life or death. Lastly, examples of conflict can be shown in The Gift of the Magi by O.Henry. An internal conflict faced by Della Young, the protagonist, is when she does not have enough money to buy her husband Jim a present. All Della had was one dollar and eighty seven cents.
