Examine the Argument That “Good Fences Make Good
Neighbours”.
Examine the argument that good fences make good neighbours .
When using the term Street , or Neighbourhood in context of where we live, it is usually
referencing more than just a geographical location, but rather a collective of all the elements that
go into making it what it is, especially the people. A good neighbour is someone who understands
the socially constructed rules of behaviour that goes with the title, and this essay will be looking at
how boundaries, or fences , that these mostly unwritten rules are based upon, and also, how they
are broken and repaired. The argument in the title highlights the fact that no matter how close you
are to a neighbour, both physically and personally, there is always a need for privacy. ... Show more

His initial observations revealed that there didn t seem to be such a concept as over neighbouring
there. Instead, the whole village came and went as in and out of each others houses as they pleased.
Neighbours entered our houses without hesitation... [and] took us under their wings to such an
extent that we felt as if we had been initiated into a large family. (Brandes, cited in Byford, 2009,
p. 260). So to Brandes, it must have felt alien, with no clear boundaries and everyone involved in
everyone elses lives to a household degree. He notes that they seemed to have a Pathological
fear of privacy (Brandes, cited in Byford, 2009, p. 260). However, as he spent time there, he
came to realise that the village was not so much an extended family society, but a big brother
society fuelled by mistrust. The fences had been removed in order to make sure that no one was
cheating another and that there were no schemes afoot. The villagers were poor, so they assumed
that if a person could get away with with it, he will engage in almost any activity to further his
own well being... (Brandes, cited in Byford, 2009, p. 261). This is an example where perhaps the
fences could make living conditions less stressful. Looking at these examples, it is clear to see
where the hypothetical (and physical) fences have their uses. According to Erving Goffman, people

The Year I Won Chess Nationals
Twenty years ago, when I first took up chess at the age of 5, I was fascinated by the ability of the
game to take a completely different direction from where it was headed with as little as one
move and the endless possibilities this could lead to. By 2005, the year I won chess nationals, I
had developed a great appreciation for all the information about various chess positions I had
absorbed through years of practice which helped me make the right moves. Years later, working at a
managementconsulting startup as a business analyst, I helped clients, ranging fledgling startups to
industry leaders, make well informed decisions by providing them with data backed business
intelligence. Today, with over three years experience in Management and IT consulting I feel
prepared to make the most out of a Master s program in business analyticsthat would help me
realize the power that data and the value that could be extracted from it possess.
Fortunate to have grown up in a tech savvy home in times of tremendous technological
advancement, I developed an affinity to all things technology which got me interested in doing my
Bachelors in Computer science which I took an instant liking to, especially computer programming.
In my first year of engineering, the year following my mother s passing, I chose to deal with the
loss by immersing myself in extracurricular activities and went on to win the first prize in chess,

Renewable Energy Based Power Generation
Background The growing concern about the impact of CO2 and the anxiety on the effect of
using fossil fuels based power generation technology on the environment, in recent years, has
made the researchers to focusing on the renewable energy based clean power generation
techniques to secure the environment from carbon effect. Among the development of
renewable energy based power generation techniques, the solar power generation has a major
role in clean power generation. The sunlight is free of cost and everlasting energy sources, but
the drawback of this method is that generation of electricity is only possible during the sunshine.
In PV system, the DC DC power converters are used to change the output voltage from one level
to another level [25 27]. Typically, the DC DC converter is connected between the panel and the
load, sequentially to extract the available power from the panel using tracking methods. In this
work, Boost converters and Super lift boost converters [1] are used to extract the maximum
power from the panel and two converters diagram is shown in Figure 1a and Figure 1b
respectively. Figure1a. Circuit diagram of Boost converter. The Boost converter is a switch mode
DC to DC converter in which the output voltage is greater than the input voltage. It is also called
as step up converter. The name step up converter comes from the fact that analogous to step up

The Importance Of Interracial Marriage
History has its fair share in learning to accept different customs and cultural aspects in many
countries. Interracial marriage, for example, was legalized just fifty years ago in the United States
and questioned whether or not the cohesion of two different races through culture is a positive
outcome. Despite the worrisome idea of clashing beliefs, interracial marriagecan open a new
learning experience and bring acceptance amongst mixing cultures, races, and religions.
To start off, the cohesion of different races through marriage have reactions that vary widely
around the world. In the United States, at least one in six newlyweds in 2015 are involved in an
interracial marriage (Holland 2017). Consequently, as interracial marriage arises, some sites such as
https://texasformarriage.org, suggest that these relationships allow for the ability to learn more
about a new culture and to chip away at stereotypes formed by society. With this new learning
curve, people are more open to accept different viewpoints as they learn from their significant
other, especially if they still hold up to many traditions passed on by their family. To add on, as
people begin to learn more about other cultures that surround them, they open up to having a new
perspective about differing cultures and naturally break away from the stereotypes built by society.
Thus, as interracial marriage becomes more common, acceptance of other cultures and cultural
beliefs increases as well.

Raising The Minimum Wage Is A Bad Idea
In announcing his wrongheaded proposal to increase the minimum wage to $9 an hour, President
Obama spoke in lofty terms: In the wealthiest nation on Earth, he said in his State of the Union
address last month, no one who works full time should have to live in poverty.
If the debate proceeds as it has many times in the past, then most Democrats will embrace the
president s message and back the proposal, while most Republicans will oppose it, on the grounds
that higher labor costs will lead to higher unemployment.
But we shouldn t rely on political opinions in this debate. Facts clearly demonstrate that raising the
minimum wage is a bad idea.
The case against raising the minimum wage is straightforward: A higher wage makes it more
expensive for firms to hire workers. How big an effect does this have on the job market?
Economists debate this. But no one argues that increasing the minimum wage increases the
number of unemployed workers who find jobs. In the end, the trade off is clear. People who keep
their jobs get more money; those who lose their jobs, or fail to get new ones, suffer.
In announcing his proposal to increase the minimum wage, the president argued that doing so
would alleviate poverty. The president is certainly correct to turn his attention to the poor, many of
whom have been suffering for years in a tough economy. And it is clearly desirable for households
that engage in full time work not to live in poverty. But increasing the minimum wage would

A Slave During The Slave Trade
In the course of humanity, there have been times in which people will look upon one another with
nothing but disgust and indifference. While it is becoming less of a situation as time progresses
and ideals change, there was much controversy back when trading one another was legal. Abraham
Lincoln once said in his novel entitled Complete Works Volume XII, Those who deny freedom to
others, deserve it not for themselves (Chandler). However, the question must be begged: what is
slavery, and how much do people really know about some of the tragic stories that occurred
during that time period? Olaudah Equiano was a slave during the slave trade who wrote an
autobiography about his experiences with said topic. After being enslaved for ten years, he finally
could afford to buy his freedom and become an anti slavery activist. His text explains his trek
across oceans in a ship with awful living conditions. In the text, The Interesting Narrative of the
Life of Olaudah Equiano, by Olaudah Equiano, the reader can learn about the conditions aboard the
ships, the cruelty of the sailors and the aftermath of the Atlantic Slave Trade.
To begin, Equiano speaks about the repulsive circumstances he experiences whilst on the ship.
Being a miniscule boat, there should be no way that a surplus of slaves could fit...or it there? The
Atlantic Slave Trade was famous for the awful living conditions the Africans faced while on the
boat for as long as they were. Olaudah explains how, The

What Is A Non Traditional Family
It takes a village to raise a child is an African proverb that means a lot to me. Some families are
not traditional, meaning there may be only one parent in the home. I am a part of a non

moments when I wished both my parents were in the home, I have had the benefit of being

Often times my uncles, grandfathers and cousins stood in the gaps that were left by my father.

What Is The Irony In The World Of The Sugar Plantation
According to Adreoni in The World of the Sugar Plantation , there are clearly limitations to what
a slave owner can do to punish their slaves but pain is still inflicted as depicted in the very first
scene. The film began right away with a powerful scene where a slave was being tortured. There s
only so much one could empathize when reading about the mistreatment of slaves in history books
but just hearing the shrieks of this slave, the pain seemed to radiate throughout the body even
before revealing the tortured slave on screen. When the scene cut so that the frame captured the
white people s response to this scene, I was appalled. A white child was sitting on a slave who was
on all fours like he was a piece of furniture. Adreoni mentions that the slaves are the hands and feet
of the plantation owner, for without them... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The children weren t scared at all and were able to ward off the kidnappers through tricks. I was
also impressed with the amount of traps that people of Palmares set up. Their quick wit was not
something I had considered when visualizing the encounter as they were up against the guns of the
Portuguese. The cross plays a strong symbol throughout the movie when the kidnapped child, now
grown up, takes the cross right before he escaped only to throw it back down with such force.
Catholicism was not a necessity to him, as he was part of the indigenous people who the
Portuguese wanted to convert to Christianity and burn down their land. Later on when he returns

religion , but their true motive of exploitation made their initial motive into a

Meno Hidden Virtue Analysis
Hidden Virtues
As we already know from reading other works by Plato, Virtue is not a cut and clean object with a
distinct definition that is more correct than another definition. When Socrates asks, what is virtue? ,
Meno comes up with three definitions. However, none of his replies are true answers, but rather
define parts of what helps to create virtue. Meno s replies are scattered and he is unable to give the
reader a true definition of what virtue is. Meno fails to give a common factor in all definitions of
virtue, but rather gives the reader many different outlooks with nothing connecting each example.
In this paper, I will discuss the exchanges between Meno and Socrates and the attempts made by
Meno to describe virtue as well as Socrates arguments against them.
As stated above, Meno comes up with three attempts at defining virtue. While reading it can be
assumed that virtue is not easily defined. A key element in creating a sound definition is knowing
the nature of an object. If the nature of said object is unknown, there cannot be judgement of any
quality of the object itself. Meno first attempts to describe virtue by giving examples of ... Show

Based solely upon what is stated in the dialogue between Meno and Socrates, we see Meno
repeatedly try to define virtue unsuccessfully. He claims to know what virtue is but fails to define
it correctly. Socrates uses counterexample after counterexample to break down Meno s arguments
and proves that Meno lacks the knowledge of a true definition. I believe that Socrates does not do
this to dishearten Meno, but rather to have him reevaluate his knowledge of virtue. After analyzing
the story as a whole, I believe that even if virtue is known innately, there is no way to give a single
definition that allows us to truly teach the concept of

8. There were a few limitations found in this project. First of all is the small number of
participants. Second is the gender limitation as in this project was just one female and four males,
and it would have been better to have more females to compare the results between them, because
females scores are always different then males scores. Time was another obstacle, because if there
would have been more time the researcher would have done two or three exercises. In this research
project all the variables have been controlled, but there were a few unexpected variables: one of
the participants did his best in the first attempt, but after the warm up he performed the test just for
the sake of doing it, putting no effort in it at all, wanting to finish faster. Another extraneous
variable was the slippery floor which made some of the participants to add a few seconds extra to
their score.
9. As a conclusion this experiment has been very useful, because it showed that warm up makes a
difference in an athlete s life. By taking into consideration the scientist s advices everyone makes
their life easier, and have a better chance to win a competition. This research project should inform
not only the athletes, but the other people that want to exercise that warm up should be part of their

Reflection On Practicum
My practicum was a good learning experience of practical public health work and exposure to
how zoonotic disease is handled by multiple public health departments. I appreciated my
experience giving me the knowledge of day to day public health work and what it means to be
epidemiologist. My classes in epidemiologyprepared me well for understanding terminology and the
process of outbreak response. Particularly, my Applied Epidemiology course provided me with the
critical thinking skills to evaluate published literature. In reviewing my work I used multiple public
healthcompetencies including biostatistics, epidemiology, communication and informatics,
leadership, professionalism, and program planning.
Discipline Specific Competencies:
Biostatistics. I applied basic informatics techniques with vital statistics and public health records in
the description of public health characteristics and in public health research and evaluation. [A.8] I
used my knowledge of basic biostatistics to compare positive cases, test submissions, and human
population to see if there was any correlation. Understanding biostatistics allowed me to make a
valid and meaningful comparison of this data. The information gathered from the biostatistics gives
a limited estimate of risk, and should be further evaluated to quantify this risk. The main goal of
my project was to interpret the results of statistical analyses in terms of epidemiological human risk
factors. [A.9]

Living with an open mind also helps me be more creative. It lets me look at the world around me
with fresh eyes, and it helps me gain confidence in myself and my own ideas. It is important to
recognize my own weaknesses in order to improve upon them and know where I stand with any
competitors. My main weaknesses are my communication skills and falling into the habit of
procrastination. Communication, particularly with a large group of people, is sometimes difficult
for me. I find it hard to speak up and be confident, and to network and find my place within the
academic community. Going forward, I am trying to improve my interview and public speaking
skills in order to combat this weakness. Another weakness that I have is that I become distracted
easily, while at the same time I am a perfectionist. This leads to a great deal of procrastination and
issues with time management. Although I am dedicated to my education, factors such as
commitments to friends and family and occasional lack of motivation keep me off track and lead to
procrastination. Having weaknesses is something that can be harmful when competing with others.
However, having weaknesses is inevitable, so it is important for me to identify and deal with them
instead of avoiding them.

threats are negative trends (239). Throughout the past few years, I have faced threats that

The Element Of Light And Shadow
This freestanding, subtractive sculpture depicts a young mother comfortably kneeling and cradling
her breastfeeding baby. The young mother s features are very delicate and fair; her gaze falls
lovingly upon the infant who gazes back at her. Both figures are unclothed with minimal space
between them. The scale is similar to that of a real mother and baby, but perhaps a little bit smaller.
The sculptureis carved from a pure white piece of marble without natural flecks of color or coloring
additions. The element of light and shadow helps to make the figures appear very realistic. For
instance, gradual, minute depressions made in the sculpture are affected by shadow and suggest

Indeed, using perfectly white marble reflects the innocence and purity possessed by the mother
and baby. This quality is also maintained by the texture; there are no impurities or roughness to
be found. In addition to reflecting purity, the smooth texture provides the work with an aura of
calming softness that helps to highlight the serenity of the scene. As mentioned in the
description, the use of line is also very delicate. The artist might have made them sharp and
angular, but instead, he used lines that are curved, gradual, and smooth. This contributes to the
loving, gentle quality of the artwork. Another way that the artist has achieved a peaceful scene
is by limiting the principle of movement. One can imagine the baby wiggling its toes or the
young mother slightly readjusting her position, but that is the extent of the movement
suggested. As has been described, the harmonious result of the art elements is a pure, peaceful,
and tender scene. As a young girl, I remember going to the Springville Museum of Art on a field
trip and seeing this work of art. At first, I was a bit shocked due to the mother s lack of clothing;
however, I noticed that her nakedness was not portrayed in a disrespectful way. Despite being a
bit disturbed, I was able to recognize something pure and genuinely sweet about the statue. As I

Jazz Influence On African American Culture
Jazz music was born from the creative hands of black people who experienced oppression and
slavery in America in the late 18th century. Expression of a resistance against the racist and
oppressive political system was manifested in the way of black Americans to play their music.
History has recorded that slavery and racial discrimination in America gave birth precisely to the
music of resistance, such as the Spiritual, gospel and blues. This phenomenon could be interpreted
as a cultural resistance of black people to Westernization, in terms of religion, culture, politics, and
how to make music. It was because before they were brought to America, they have a distinctive
culture of Africa.
In the beginning, the spirit of jazz music or the ideology behind it was the liberation of African

periods where each period gave birth to a specific style of playing music.
The first period was traditional jazz period (1890 1940) that gave birth to Ragtime, New

Poverty and Underdevelopment of India
Health education linkages inequality in distribution of stock of human capital means
underinvestment on the one hand and mal investment on the other, as total and per capita stocks of
human capital figures in women and backward castes indicate. Perhaps, the main reason lies in the
failure of human investment revolution in economic thought to really revolutionize common
thinking. individuals as well as state policy makers still perceive educationexpenditure as
consumption and as a burden on the state which reduces public savings. it is misleading to treat
public expenditures of backward castes and women as welfare but must be treated as capital
formation .
Poverty and underdevelopment of India does not permit adequate investment in general, including
education. From the private angle, weaker sections who should invest more in education have their
present consumption needs focusing on survival where education is perceived as luxury. Even if
people took loans, they prefer investment in more tangible and resale able assets which yield higher
ROR in short gestation periods to investment in human capital. The state is constrained by its
available resources and by its welfare expenditure approach to education. Further, the capital market
is too poorly organized to provide funds for investment in education. Thus to bring equity in
distribution of human capital between different groups serious efforts have to be made towards
reducing discrimination in schooling, improving

Study World Religion
World religion includes a wide ranging and rather an influential spectrum. Therefore, studying world
religion allows a person to enrich his or her own experience through several aspects of its study.
This week s assignment includes ten reasons that studying world religion remains important. Of the
ten articulated reasons, I chose intellectual questioning as my greatest motivation for the study, and
appreciation for the arts as the least significant factor associated with the study of religion(Molloy,
2010).
Although religious beliefs vary from person to person, the study of different religious beliefs allows
for a greater spiritual knowledge within one s own beliefs, thus providing the greatest motivation
for studying religion. When

to lower their prices until they shut down because of the negative profits from lowering their

Which all in all provides a better atmosphere of customer service towards consumers. This
convinces consumers to prefer to shop at Costco, knowing that they will come out satisfied at
the end of the day. (USA TODAY) Another key difference between Wal Mart and Costco is the
fact that Costco requires memberships from consumers. A contract which consumers pay in
order to purchase any product at Costco. Membership prices range from $55 110 annually which
in return for the discount prices is well worth. Costco memberships also provide reward
programs for the more premium package such as 3% cash back for gasoline purchases. (ann

Costco; knowing that a small fraction will be returned in the short run which eventually adds up
in the long run. This not only applies for those who plan on doing their groceries but also for
heavy purchases; TVs, Mattresses, Computers..etc. However this does not appeal the consumers
who wish to buy small quantity of units like picking up a gallon of milk. To pay $55 110 a year for
a gallon of milk doesn t make sense, especially since Costco only sells packages of two gallons.
Now you would have to spend more and are responsible for not letting the milk go to waste. This

Use Your Own Language Analysis
Society today is quick to judge and state what is wrong and what is acceptable by the public.
While some differences between Spelling Matters and Use Your Own Words are obvious, the
similarities are relevant. Anne Trubek says that perhaps it is time to change or alter grammar
rules to match the current generation and culture. We should advance our guidelines about what is
proper and improper along with what is happening right now with the language. While Mikita
Brottman says, bad spelling can be a godsend a way of weeding out those who are thoughtless and
inattentive to detail (p. 219). Nonetheless, to observe that something is a mess and conclude that
we should remove all limits and let it get even messier is absurd. Yes, English spelling is hard to

With modern technologies, the way we write and read is changing rapidly, and with such changes
so must spelling. Both authors make valid points, but at the same time have different views. Both,

spelling counts, grammar counts, and consistency counts in rГ©sumГ©s. Mikita Brottman states
that everyone especially those applying for a job should know how to properly spell the name of

Emerson Individualism
Emphasis on the Individual
During the 19th century Romantic period, an intellectual movement known as Transcendentalism
emerged. Individualism was one of the fundamental ideas of Transcendentalists. This new group
believed that the individual s purity would be corrupted by organized religious and political parties.
Literature in this period was affected by tenets of Transcendentalism. Many of the authors who
believed in this movement expressed their ideas in their works. Transcendentalist writers supported
individualism by advocating self reliance, nonconformity, and resistance to unjust government.
Individualism was often shown in transcendentalist s works by insisting that oneself must be self
reliant. Writer Ralph Waldo Emersonwas a key leader in the Transcendental movement. In his
work, Self Reliance , Emerson advocated self reliance when he wrote To believe your own
thought, to believe that what is true for you in your private heart is true for all men, that is genius
(1334). In this piece, Emerson also preached Insist of yourself; never imitate (1348) to his readers.
He believed that an individual was truly their best when they had independent thinking and relied
only on their own thoughts. Emerson claimed that an individual s true genius cannot be taught or

The Challenges Of The Lewis And Clark Expedition

challenges they faced and how it impacted the United States. Lewis and Clark faced many
challenges on their expedition, including bad weather, possible animal attacks and encounters with
Indians, but in the end, Lewis and Clark were able to map out much of the west and the Pacific
Ocean area and even discovered new animals and plants.
President Jefferson gave the following instructions to Lewis and Clark: The object of your mission
is to explore the Missouri River, and such principle stream of it, as, by its course and
communication with the waters of the Pacific ocean, whether the Columbia, Oregon, Colorado or
any other river may offer the most direct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

called The Corps of Discovery. It took them two years, four months, and ten days to travel from

has ever happened.
How is it that only one person died on the journey? Surprisingly, only one person died on the
journey and it was from natural causes. His name was Sergeant Charles Floyd and he died from a
ruptured appendix.
On the journey, they encountered Indians and in an effort to make peace with them, they brought
items to trade, including tons of food, weapons, and money. When Lewis and Clark were
exploring, they encountered an Indian tribe member that we know today as Sacajawea. She helped
them out with the supplies and even saved a couple of journals when the boat was about to sink.
These journals would be worth about two million dollars

Why Do Exotic Animals Be Kept As Pets
Not Allowing Exotic Animals to be kept as Pets Throughout humanity there has been an unstable
number of exotic animals to the world. To the point of where people started thinking it would be
smart to keep them as pets. For example, such as a snake, tiger, or a giraffe. Most people have
common sense enough to know those types of animals are not meant to belong as a pet. But there
are a few people who think differently. Exotic animals do not stay cute and adorable forever. Most
of the people fail to realize that the animalsseem innocent when young but grow into problematic
adults (Toto). To top it off, an exotic animal is quick to turn on another creature, human or not.

They get easily angered and will pounce no matter what they are up against. Those types of
animals are quick to get into fights with other animals around their neighborhood or even the
people around it. Having one in one s home can also leave damage to furniture, children, and
other household objects (Leith). Additionally, wild exotic animals carry many diseases. They
are carries of unknown one s that may not even be known to a man yet. The only way to
knowing if the animal has a disease is to be bite by it, and after that it is probably going to be too
late to do anything about it then. One is at very high risk of contracting a disease while keeping
a wild animal around. Furthermore, it is illegal to keep these types of animals, to a certain extent.
It is mainly illegal to keep them in one s possession without precise paper and license to do so.
One will be fined highly if caught with an exotic animal without the correct papers that allow the
animal to be in a human s care. Allowing exotic animals into one s home is a safety hazard to the
public, that one should

Comparative Analysis Of Strategies And Views Of Katha...
In this paper, comparative analysis of strategies and views of Katha Pollitt and Aaron Devor,
about the determinants which define roles of genders in a society will be discussed. The central
idea of the paper is that gender has specific roles which are defined through their innate
characteristics and social constructs. Since the start of feminist movements, a debate has arised on
the behaviors and roles of genders. Feminist movements were purposed to achieve, the rights of
women based on their roles equal to men in the society. Which led to debate over differences
between abilities and preferences of genderthat are the basis of different and unequal roles of males
and females.
Girls and boys have different preferences and divergent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition to that people around that child will justify these sterotype behaviors by defining them
as natural roles which result from differences in hormones and genes. As she says, we are told that
the source of these robust preferences must lie outside society in prenatal hormonal influences,
brain chemistry, genes and that feminism has reached its natural limits. (Pollitt,1).
According to Devor, all female were biologically destined to have role of maternity and
household. There is a reason behind certain differences between biological structures and
cognitive behaviors of males and females. Hence, females were predisposed to have role of
maternity and children care while males do not have this role. He believes in hierarchical
appraisals of natural roles of males and females. If an individual performs duties which are
naturally attributed to opposite gender, that individual will not receive encouraging response from
society (Devor,674). Girls and boys are born different because of biological evolutions and gene
differences, thus different gender attributes start before birth. There are several biological
differences in physical structure as well as cognitive processes and intellectual traits of males and
females. These cognitive differences exist due to presence of some particular hormones in gender.
If these particular hormones are removed from an individual, he will no longer display
characteristics

The Road Use Internal Combustion Engines
Introduction Currently, most vehicles on the road use internal combustion engines (ICEs). This
type of engine has existed from as early as the 19th century, when Nikolaus Otto created the first
4 stroke cycle (Otto cycle) system, which is still used in cars to this day. As of 2010, the vehicular
population surpassed 1 billion (according to the research by Ward s Auto [1]), meaning the IC
engine is extremely widespread throughout the world. However, this does not mean that an IC
engine is the most effective way of producing power for vehicles nowadays. They have many
problems, which include but are not limited to increased fuel consumption and high CO2
emissions. There have been many attempts to improve the IC engine, including the... Show more

For each cylinder, there is a piston attached to a crankshaft, allowing it to move up and down
(i.e. complete a stroke), an intake manifold housing the intake valve, connected to the combustion
chamber and exhaust valve. The intake valve opens, and air is taken into the combustion
chamber, as the piston is pulled towards the crankshaft (Intake Stroke). Then the valves are
closed, and the piston is extended, pressurising a combination of air and fuel in the compression
chamber, causing combustion (Compression Stroke). This instantaneous combustion causes the
pressure in the combustion chamber to increase and act on the face of the piston, causing it to
be pushed back towards the crankshaft (Power Stroke). After this, the exhaust valve is opened,
and the gas escapes (Exhaust Stroke). Idling However, every time one cycle is completed, some
fuel is used to create the spark during the power stroke. This means that when the car is idling
(i.e. the engine is on, but the car is stationary), a lot of fuel and energy is wasted. This will not
only negatively affect fuel consumption, but also increase the CO2 emissions, which are already
quite high. As stated by the U.S. Department of Energy, around 27 million tonnes (30 million tons)
of CO2 is produced in the US alone [3], just due to idling vehicles. Personal vehicles also waste
approximately 3 million tonnes of fuel annually, just

Most Ancient Mayans were farmers and are famous for the farming techniques they developed.
These techniques were so popular among the Mayans that they are still used in their communities
today, over two thousand year later. Most of these ancient communities had a communal farm for
the elderly, widowers, and sick people. The different families took turns working these plots to
help the less fortunate. Each family group had its own plot or plots of land that they farmed for
their own family unit. The Mayans divided roles between the men and women. The men were
hunters. The women worked the farm, cooked the food, raised the children, took care of the

In those areas where there was not an abundance of farm land, the Mayans had to be resourceful.
They would build stone walls on terraces in the mountainous region to level out the ground for

not a loss of crops due to water run off and erosion. Many times there were canals close by these
terraces to help irrigate the crops. These terraces allowed the Mayan s to do something called
Multi cropping. This is the practice of planting and harvesting a plot of land multiple times a year.

Solubility of a Salt
Introduction
Mixture is two or more materials that can be physically separated, and there are two types of
mixture: heterogeneous and homogeneous. In heterogeneous, the different components of the
mixture can be seen separately. However, homogenous is the term of mixture which all components
stick together to be uniform. Also, in a mixture we have solvent and solute. A solvent is the major
part of solution which dissolves the solute, and solute is the part of solution that is being dissolved.
Therefore the combination of solvent and solute is solution which is a type of homogenous
mixture. For example, if water is the solvent and lemon juice and sugar are the solute, lemonade is
the solution. Also, every solution has its own solubility which is the maximum amount of solute that
will dissolve in a solvent under certain condition. A solution can be saturated, unsaturated, and super

Characteristics Of Culturally Relevant Teaching By...
Teachers must be aware and can identify the different levels of knowledge which goes hand to hand
with Bloom s taxonomy. According, to Center for Teaching this concept includes a maximum of six
different levels such as understanding, remember, or evaluate. However, knowledge is the basis of
these six cognitive processes allowing a teacher to categorize where the student exist and what it
takes to improve their knowledge. In chapter 3 5 the author relates to the knowledge of the teacher
by outlining the characteristics of culturally relevant teaching by providing classroom
demonstrations and teacher observations. Cultural relevant is responsive teaching is a pedagogy
grounded in teachers displaying cultural competence (Jabbar, Abdul 2013). This allows students to
connect their prior knowledge to what is presented in the classroom. In relations to the teacher it
serves as a guide to help teachers connect with their students by knowing and incorporating the
student s culture into instructional activities. This type of teacher views knowledge as something
that is continuously re created, recycles and shared. Various teachers were interviewed on how
knowledge is valued in the classroom. They viewed educationand knowledge as vehicles for
emancipation. These teachers consistently found ways to bring African American customs and

How might insufficient amount of proteins, carbohydrates, fats and fiber contribute to health
illness? They are alike because our body needs all of them. All of them provide a different
benefit to the body. But if we consume too much then there are negative effects. Protein is very
important to the body and it is irreplaceable. A higher intake of water is needed when you have
an excess of protein. Also a high intake level can lead to kidney problems. Issue arises when the
body doesn t get enough protein, your growth is then impaired and the body must find other
ways to survive. A high intake of lipids leads to high cholesterol, which may lead to other heart
problems. Some lipids contribute to energy, which has a connection to metabolism. Lipids can be
found in liquids that remain liquid at room temperature and solid and room temperature. It is said
that lipids provide way more energy than carbohydrates. A diet low in carbohydrates decreases
energy level and weakens performance and endurance. Low carbohydrates can cause obesity, high

Benefits Of Airline And Airport Privatization
1.Introduction
The airline industry is governed by a rapidly evolving framework of economic regulation by which
many factors, significantly continued liberalisation and open skies, have caused much turbulence
and uncertainty in this increasingly low margin market.
Although separate entities, airlines and airports are interdependent and could not operate without
the other. A major consequence of deregulation is airline concentration and strong economic drivers
are pushing towards even further concentration and consolidation (Doganis, 2006). UK airport
regulation was reformed with airport privatisation, enabling a long term focus to meet international
demand and to maintain a customer focused business plan, allowing management to monitor and
adjust costs and boost income.
The aim of this report is to examine these consequences, and the benefits of airline and airport
mergers and acquisitions, and will look specifically at the acquisition of Monarch Airlines by
Jet2.com (known as Jet2(b) later in this report). It will also look at similar acquisition benefits of
Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) by Heathrow Airport Holdings Ltd (HAH).
2.Overview of Airlines
2.1Jet2.com
Founded in 2003, Jet2.com Ltd is part of the Dart Group Plc and is the fourth largest leisure airline
in the UK, serving the North and is based at Leeds Bradford International Airport. Flying to over
fifty sun, sea and ski destinations across Europe and beyond, passenger numbers have rapidly
increased to 5.9m in

Analysis Of Nintendo Essay
THE HISTORY OF NINTENDO
Nintendo Company, Ltd is based in Kyoto Japan. They are recognized as being the worldwide
leader in the creation of interactive entertainment (Nintendo, 2002, PG). Some of the world s best
selling video gaming has come from the Nintendo Company, including Game Boy and Nintendo 64.
In America Nintendo is based in Redmond, Washington. It is interesting to note that in American
households nearly 40% have a Nintendo product. The latest product launched by Nintendo has been
the Game Cube, a video game console which will undoubtedly prove to be yet another bestseller.

While they are sometimes critical and seek perfection, at the same time they are leaders who try to
work with the entire group so that the dynamics flow together rather than individually.
Weaknesses: Conflict has been described as the process which begins when one party perceives
that the other has frustrated, or is about to frustrate, some concern of his or hers. This could
certainly be the case with Nintendo when it fights a head to head battle with Microsoft. The
meanings of concerns in this case are the needs, wants and values of Nintendo. Therefore, conflict
situations might arise when the needs, wants and values of two parties interfere with one another.
Depending on how Nintendo and Microsoft react to conflict it may not be harmful. Indeed, it
presents opportunities for situations to be driven forward effectively, particularly in business
contexts. However, according to some people it appears that all reactions to conflict stem from two
general impulses:
(1)The desire to satisfy personal concerns, which shows itself as assertive behavior, and
(2)The desire to satisfy the concerns of others, which shows itself in non assertive behavior. These
represent two behavioral dimensions and provide the basis for conflict handling modes. These
behaviors are further incorporated into the concept built around the idea that people react in one of
five basic ways when faced with interpersonal conflict situations; competing, collaborating,
compromising,

Ring Of Roses Meaning
Ring of roses a poem and a game of children singing and dancing around in a circle. The famous
children s nursery rhyme Ring of Roses is believed to be based on the black bubonic plague that
struck Europe over the course of the 13th 16th century. In my opinion it makes sense when you
analyse and link each line of this nursery rhyme it can easily be interpreted to mean something
relating to the plague.
Over time the nursery rhyme has differed in verses. The lyrics changing depending on the
cultures and period in time it has been sung. As the poem has been passed down through the
periods the adaptations of modern language has effected it but overall the verses always seem to
be of the same meaning. There are typically two main verses to the poem but with many different
versions of it. Some of these versions only contain one verse. The version that I am analysing has
two verses.
It begins with Ring a ring o roses . This line hypothetically refers to one of the first ... Show more

I believe this verse later came after the plague, druing the small pox epidemic hit. Small pox was
a deadly disease that held no limits and the symptoms were very similar to the plague. Eventually
small pox was controlled by a vaccine created by Edward Jenner in 1796. This vaccine was made
of cowpox. Edward Jenner developed the vaccine after he noticed that Milkmaids who had
already had cow pox did not catch small pox. Ironic, right? Cows in the meadow, cow pox. We all
jump up could mean we all avoid death thanks to the vaccine. Small pox striked from the 15th 18th
century infecting people during and very close to the bubonic plague time. This could have made it
very easy for people to confuse the first verse about the plague with small pox and then creating
the second verse to be in it. As the symptoms of small pox were very similar to the plague it s easy

Explain how continuous improvement models, knowledge management systems, quality systems
and sustainability principles can be incorporated into business systems
Continuous Improvement Models
To close the gap between actual and desired performance, decisions need to be made. Decision
making involves making a selection from among alternative courses of action. Implementation and
evaluation of the implementation provide feedback into the next cycle of group decision making.
Effective problem solving and decision making processes follow an ordered format, requiring you
to:
1.Examine the current situation, in measurable terms, to discover or identify the discrepancy (this
could be a problem, issue or opportunity).

Strategies for capturing and sharing insights and experiences include:
Best practice transfer: is the process of sharing the methods of doing business that yield the best
results.
Community of practice: a group of individuals sharing a common work practice over a period.
Expert directories: a tool for knowledge seekers to gain access to experts.
Knowledge brokers: knowledge brokers can be public or scientific, industry specific, or firm
specific.
Mentoring: is the process of a more experienced person advising and guiding a less experienced
(and usually younger) person, typically a colleague.
Post project reviews: or lesson learned debriefings occur either at the completion of a project or
activity or at strategic points or milestones during the project.
Story telling: uses anecdotal examples to illustrate a point and transfer knowledge.
A key strategy for knowledge management is actively managing knowledge, also known as a push
strategy. Employees enter their knowledge into shared knowledge repository, such as a database.
Employees seeking knowledge can search the database.
The opposite strategy, a pull strategy, is the use of experts on an ad hoc basis. The expert provides
insight to persons needing information.

Primaries In Presidential Elections
There are several different types of primaries in presidential elections that allow only specific
candidates to move forward to the general elections. Each primary accomplishes a different goal,
which can range from establishing a favorite party to establishing a favorite candidate. After
reviewing the four main types of primary systems in the American Democratic system, the system
that provides the most benefits is the open primary system. A major benefit of the open primary
system is that the voters are able to vote for their favorite candidate rather than their favorite party.
A voter may not always identify solely with one party or their views may not always closely
resemble the views expressed by their established party. Therefore an open

F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby Essay
Man dreams of living the life of the elite social class and of the power and admiration inherent
within. F. Scott Fitzgerald comes to terms with this American dream in The Great Gatsby, a novel
about social life in the 1920 s. The social hierarchy of the times plays a very important role in this
novel. Here Fitzgerald illustrates three specific social classes: old money, new money, and lower
class, with old money and new money taking center stage. Gatsby himself personifies new money;
he made himself into a rich man through shady dealings. Tom Buchanan, on the other hand,
represents old money. He received everything he has on a silver platter. He earned nothing but his
inheritance. At the time, it was extremely desirable to be old money,... Show more content on

Tom refuses because marrying into a lower social class would develop into even more of a scandal
than having a mistress. This corrupted American dream prevents Tom from openly allowing
Myrtle into his life. Old money s highly discriminating nature allows its members to attain
superiority, while this self serving superiority further enhances their American dream. The
attempts of new money to imitate old money remain futile. For example, although Daisy truly
loves Gatsby, he represents new money. Despite his attempts to become old money, the old rich
have never embraced him. Daisy cannot be with him because he is not and never will be of her
class. Gatsby even offers to take the blame for a murder she committed, yet she will nott even
leave her husband for him. quot; Was Daisy driving? Yes, he said after a moment. but of course I
ll say I was. quot; (p. 151). Daisy allows Gatsby to take the blame for her without showing either
remorse or gratitude. In this way, Fitzgerald shows that although old money people count
themselves rich monetarily, they show a lack of morality and accountability. Daisy s carelessness
and irresponsibility cause her to need others to clean up after her without caring who takes the fall.
Old money s arrogance and haughtiness make their misguided American dream more of an
American nightmare. The elite created the American dream in order to make themselves and others
think they are superior. They are not, in fact, above all others, but have

Gender Transformation In Buddhist Narratives
Using at least three examples covered in class discuss how gender has implications for religious
devotees. Throughout the semester we have studied various examples discussing how gender has
implications for religions devotees. The first example, is from guest speaker Chris Emm s
presentation on Gender Transformation in Buddhist Narratives. Focusing on the question of who
can and who cant become a Buddhist Monk or Nun. The first questions asked to one undertaking
ordination as a monk is: are you a man? and do you have a male organ? and he must say: I am,
and I have. In the story of the Lotus Sutra, ЕљДЃriputra questions the Naga princess on why she is
in the body of a woman, stating that her body is filthy and not a vessel of the Dharma. Naga s
daughter is then transformed into a male. The goddess used the power of numinous penetration and
changed ЕљДЃriputra s body to be like that of a goddess. ЕљДЃriputra is not female but is
manifesting a female body, so are all females likewise. Although they manifest female bodies, they
are not female. Therefore, the Buddha has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

many cultural and religious variations. In the Video Clip: Life Beyond Death (Indonesia) we
become aware of a tradition in Indonesia that shows us how the dead are kept as a part of the
family. Bodies of the deceased remain in the homes of their loved ones for weeks or even years
and taken care of and fed as if they are still alive. They continue their bond with the corpses
through a second funeral where family members bring out their ancestors every few years and

Essay about The Collected Poems of WB Yeats
Yeats, B. William. The Collected Poems of WB Yeats. New York: Macmillan, 1996. 318 The
importance of this book is that it contains some of the works of poetry which were carried out by
William Yeats. Arguably, the most salient feature in the book is the attempt at portraying the shift
that characterized Yeats in his work, so that his works are arranged almost chronologically to
underscore this standpoint. Works that depict him as a bard of the Celtic Twilight, reviving
Rosicrucian symbols and legends are the most frontal. These are followed up by works which
show the shift away from plush romanticism. The same are exhibited by the heavy presence of
incantatory rhythms such as I will arise and go... and go to Innisfree . The same is seen... Show

New York: WW Norton and Company, 1975. This poem was published in 1927 and comes out
as a form of meditation. The poem is rich in its scope as it covers sundry topics ranging from
children, to human behavior, life in the 20th century, the philosophy on life and life after death,
among others. This poem is an eight lined stanza which is heavily laden with rhymes and the use
of prosaic language. The poem has been written within the context of a visitor who has walked
into a classroom under the guidance of a kind elderly nun. The importance of this poem to this
reading is that in it, the poet addresses the dynamism that has shaped and continues to shape the
civil society, progress and modernity, as opposed to the status quo ante which predated the Civil
War or the Anglo Irish War. The importance of this poem to this reading is also seen in the fact
that it betrays the political ideals that Yeats had: the poem implicates the speaker as being a
senator. It is in after 1924 that Yeats served as a senator. This makes the poem sound like a poem
which was penned down after the civil war, given that it is written from the standpoint of a more
peaceful and politically stable Ireland. Thus, the poem is also instrumental as it lets the reader in
into Yeats political orientation and leanings. Thus, the many qualities Yeats had and the many
fields he operated in, in terms of career are well confirmed by this poem. The

  • 3. Examine the Argument That “Good Fences Make Good Neighbours”. Examine the argument that good fences make good neighbours . When using the term Street , or Neighbourhood in context of where we live, it is usually referencing more than just a geographical location, but rather a collective of all the elements that go into making it what it is, especially the people. A good neighbour is someone who understands the socially constructed rules of behaviour that goes with the title, and this essay will be looking at how boundaries, or fences , that these mostly unwritten rules are based upon, and also, how they are broken and repaired. The argument in the title highlights the fact that no matter how close you are to a neighbour, both physically and personally, there is always a need for privacy. ... So to Brandes, it must have felt alien, with no clear boundaries and everyone involved in everyone elses lives to a household degree. He notes that they seemed to have a Pathological fear of privacy (Brandes, cited in Byford, 2009, p. 260). However, as he spent time there, he came to realise that the village was not so much an extended family society, but a big brother society fuelled by mistrust. The fences had been removed in order to make sure that no one was cheating another and that there were no schemes afoot. The villagers were poor, so they assumed that if a person could get away with with it, he will engage in almost any activity to further his own well being... (Brandes, cited in Byford, 2009, p. 261). The Year I Won Chess Nationals Twenty years ago, when I first took up chess at the age of 5, I was fascinated by the ability of the game to take a completely different direction from where it was headed with as little as one move and the endless possibilities this could lead to. By 2005, the year I won chess nationals, I had developed a great appreciation for all the information about various chess positions I had absorbed through years of practice which helped me make the right moves. Years later, working at a managementconsulting startup as a business analyst, I helped clients, ranging fledgling startups to industry leaders, make well informed decisions by providing them with data backed business intelligence. Today, with over three years experience in Management and IT consulting I feel prepared to make the most out of a Master s program in business analyticsthat would help me realize the power that data and the value that could be extracted from it possess. Fortunate to have grown up in a tech savvy home in times of tremendous technological advancement, I developed an affinity to all things technology which got me interested in doing my Bachelors in Computer science which I took an instant liking to, especially computer programming. In my first year of engineering, the year following my mother s passing, I chose to deal with the loss by immersing myself in extracurricular activities and went on to win the first prize in chess, cricket and football tournaments and finished runner up in the ... Renewable Energy Based Power Generation Background The growing concern about the impact of CO2 and the anxiety on the effect of using fossil fuels based power generation technology on the environment, in recent years, has made the researchers to focusing on the renewable energy based clean power generation techniques to secure the environment from carbon effect. Among the development of renewable energy based power generation techniques, the solar power generation has a major role in clean power generation. The sunlight is free of cost and everlasting energy sources, but the drawback of this method is that generation of electricity is only possible during the sunshine. In PV system, the DC DC power converters are used to change the output voltage from one level to another level [25 27]. Typically, the DC DC converter is connected between the panel and the load, sequentially to extract the available power from the panel using tracking methods. In this work, Boost converters and Super lift boost converters [1] are used to extract the maximum power from the panel and two converters diagram is shown in Figure 1a and Figure 1b respectively. Figure1a. Circuit diagram of Boost converter. The Boost converter is a switch mode DC to DC converter in which the output voltage is greater than the input voltage. • 7. The Importance Of Interracial Marriage History has its fair share in learning to accept different customs and cultural aspects in many countries. Interracial marriage, for example, was legalized just fifty years ago in the United States and questioned whether or not the cohesion of two different races through culture is a positive outcome. Despite the worrisome idea of clashing beliefs, interracial marriagecan open a new learning experience and bring acceptance amongst mixing cultures, races, and religions. To start off, the cohesion of different races through marriage have reactions that vary widely around the world. In the United States, at least one in six newlyweds in 2015 are involved in an interracial marriage (Holland 2017). Consequently, as interracial marriage arises, some sites such as https://texasformarriage.org, suggest that these relationships allow for the ability to learn more about a new culture and to chip away at stereotypes formed by society. With this new learning curve, people are more open to accept different viewpoints as they learn from their significant other, especially if they still hold up to many traditions passed on by their family. To add on, as people begin to learn more about other cultures that surround them, they open up to having a new perspective about differing cultures and naturally break away from the stereotypes built by society. Thus, as interracial marriage becomes more common, acceptance of other cultures and cultural beliefs increases as well. In addition to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Raising The Minimum Wage Is A Bad Idea In announcing his wrongheaded proposal to increase the minimum wage to $9 an hour, President Obama spoke in lofty terms: In the wealthiest nation on Earth, he said in his State of the Union address last month, no one who works full time should have to live in poverty. If the debate proceeds as it has many times in the past, then most Democrats will embrace the president s message and back the proposal, while most Republicans will oppose it, on the grounds that higher labor costs will lead to higher unemployment. But we shouldn t rely on political opinions in this debate. Facts clearly demonstrate that raising the minimum wage is a bad idea. The case against raising the minimum wage is straightforward: A higher wage makes it more expensive for firms to hire workers. How big an effect does this have on the job market? Economists debate this. But no one argues that increasing the minimum wage increases the number of unemployed workers who find jobs. In the end, the trade off is clear. People who keep their jobs get more money; those who lose their jobs, or fail to get new ones, suffer. In announcing his proposal to increase the minimum wage, the president argued that doing so would alleviate poverty. The president is certainly correct to turn his attention to the poor, many of whom have been suffering for years in a tough economy. And it is clearly desirable for households that engage in full time work not to live in poverty. But increasing the minimum wage would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. A Slave During The Slave Trade In the course of humanity, there have been times in which people will look upon one another with nothing but disgust and indifference. While it is becoming less of a situation as time progresses and ideals change, there was much controversy back when trading one another was legal. Abraham Lincoln once said in his novel entitled Complete Works Volume XII, Those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves (Chandler). However, the question must be begged: what is slavery, and how much do people really know about some of the tragic stories that occurred during that time period? Olaudah Equiano was a slave during the slave trade who wrote an autobiography about his experiences with said topic. After being enslaved for ten years, he finally could afford to buy his freedom and become an anti slavery activist. His text explains his trek across oceans in a ship with awful living conditions. In the text, The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano, by Olaudah Equiano, the reader can learn about the conditions aboard the ships, the cruelty of the sailors and the aftermath of the Atlantic Slave Trade. To begin, Equiano speaks about the repulsive circumstances he experiences whilst on the ship. Being a miniscule boat, there should be no way that a surplus of slaves could fit...or it there? What Is The Irony In The World Of The Sugar Plantation According to Adreoni in The World of the Sugar Plantation , there are clearly limitations to what a slave owner can do to punish their slaves but pain is still inflicted as depicted in the very first scene. The film began right away with a powerful scene where a slave was being tortured. There s only so much one could empathize when reading about the mistreatment of slaves in history books but just hearing the shrieks of this slave, the pain seemed to radiate throughout the body even before revealing the tortured slave on screen. When the scene cut so that the frame captured the white people s response to this scene, I was appalled. A white child was sitting on a slave who was on all fours like he was a piece of furniture. The cross plays a strong symbol throughout the movie when the kidnapped child, now grown up, takes the cross right before he escaped only to throw it back down with such force. Catholicism was not a necessity to him, as he was part of the indigenous people who the Portuguese wanted to convert to Christianity and burn down their land. Later on when he returns after reuniting with the people of Palmares, he mentions how the cross is only useful when it was turned upside down, thus turning the cross into a sword. • 14. Meno Hidden Virtue Analysis Hidden Virtues As we already know from reading other works by Plato, Virtue is not a cut and clean object with a distinct definition that is more correct than another definition. When Socrates asks, what is virtue? , Meno comes up with three definitions. However, none of his replies are true answers, but rather define parts of what helps to create virtue. Meno s replies are scattered and he is unable to give the reader a true definition of what virtue is. Meno fails to give a common factor in all definitions of virtue, but rather gives the reader many different outlooks with nothing connecting each example. In this paper, I will discuss the exchanges between Meno and Socrates and the attempts made by Meno to describe virtue as well as Socrates arguments against them. As stated above, Meno comes up with three attempts at defining virtue. While reading it can be assumed that virtue is not easily defined. A key element in creating a sound definition is knowing the nature of an object. If the nature of said object is unknown, there cannot be judgement of any quality of the object itself. Meno first attempts to describe virtue by giving examples of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that Socrates does not do this to dishearten Meno, but rather to have him reevaluate his knowledge of virtue. Second is the gender limitation as in this project was just one female and four males, and it would have been better to have more females to compare the results between them, because females scores are always different then males scores. Time was another obstacle, because if there would have been more time the researcher would have done two or three exercises. In this research project all the variables have been controlled, but there were a few unexpected variables: one of the participants did his best in the first attempt, but after the warm up he performed the test just for the sake of doing it, putting no effort in it at all, wanting to finish faster. Another extraneous variable was the slippery floor which made some of the participants to add a few seconds extra to their score. 9. This quality is also maintained by the texture; there are no impurities or roughness to be found. In addition to reflecting purity, the smooth texture provides the work with an aura of calming softness that helps to highlight the serenity of the scene. As mentioned in the description, the use of line is also very delicate. The artist might have made them sharp and angular, but instead, he used lines that are curved, gradual, and smooth. This contributes to the loving, gentle quality of the artwork. Another way that the artist has achieved a peaceful scene is by limiting the principle of movement. One can imagine the baby wiggling its toes or the young mother slightly readjusting her position, but that is the extent of the movement suggested. As has been described, the harmonious result of the art elements is a pure, peaceful, and tender scene. • 23. Poverty and Underdevelopment of India Health education linkages inequality in distribution of stock of human capital means underinvestment on the one hand and mal investment on the other, as total and per capita stocks of human capital figures in women and backward castes indicate. Perhaps, the main reason lies in the failure of human investment revolution in economic thought to really revolutionize common thinking. individuals as well as state policy makers still perceive educationexpenditure as consumption and as a burden on the state which reduces public savings. it is misleading to treat public expenditures of backward castes and women as welfare but must be treated as capital formation . Poverty and underdevelopment of India does not permit adequate investment in general, including education. From the private angle, weaker sections who should invest more in education have their present consumption needs focusing on survival where education is perceived as luxury. Even if people took loans, they prefer investment in more tangible and resale able assets which yield higher ROR in short gestation periods to investment in human capital. The state is constrained by its available resources and by its welfare expenditure approach to education. Further, the capital market is too poorly organized to provide funds for investment in education. Thus to bring equity in distribution of human capital between different groups serious efforts have to be made towards reducing discrimination in schooling, improving ... Membership prices range from $55 110 annually which in return for the discount prices is well worth. Costco memberships also provide reward programs for the more premium package such as 3% cash back for gasoline purchases. This not only applies for those who plan on doing their groceries but also for heavy purchases; TVs, Mattresses, Computers..etc. However this does not appeal the consumers who wish to buy small quantity of units like picking up a gallon of milk. To pay $55 110 a year for a gallon of milk doesn t make sense, especially since Costco only sells packages of two gallons. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For each cylinder, there is a piston attached to a crankshaft, allowing it to move up and down (i.e. complete a stroke), an intake manifold housing the intake valve, connected to the combustion chamber and exhaust valve. The intake valve opens, and air is taken into the combustion chamber, as the piston is pulled towards the crankshaft (Intake Stroke). Then the valves are closed, and the piston is extended, pressurising a combination of air and fuel in the compression chamber, causing combustion (Compression Stroke). This instantaneous combustion causes the pressure in the combustion chamber to increase and act on the face of the piston, causing it to be pushed back towards the crankshaft (Power Stroke). After this, the exhaust valve is opened, and the gas escapes (Exhaust Stroke). Idling However, every time one cycle is completed, some fuel is used to create the spark during the power stroke. This means that when the car is idling (i.e. the engine is on, but the car is stationary), a lot of fuel and energy is wasted. This will not only negatively affect fuel consumption, but also increase the CO2 emissions, which are already quite high. Benefits Of Airline And Airport Privatization 1.Introduction The airline industry is governed by a rapidly evolving framework of economic regulation by which many factors, significantly continued liberalisation and open skies, have caused much turbulence and uncertainty in this increasingly low margin market. Although separate entities, airlines and airports are interdependent and could not operate without the other. A major consequence of deregulation is airline concentration and strong economic drivers are pushing towards even further concentration and consolidation (Doganis, 2006). While they are sometimes critical and seek perfection, at the same time they are leaders who try to work with the entire group so that the dynamics flow together rather than individually. Weaknesses: Conflict has been described as the process which begins when one party perceives that the other has frustrated, or is about to frustrate, some concern of his or hers. This could certainly be the case with Nintendo when it fights a head to head battle with Microsoft. The meanings of concerns in this case are the needs, wants and values of Nintendo. Therefore, conflict situations might arise when the needs, wants and values of two parties interfere with one another. Depending on how Nintendo and Microsoft react to conflict it may not be harmful. Indeed, it presents opportunities for situations to be driven forward effectively, particularly in business contexts. However, according to some people it appears that all reactions to conflict stem from two general impulses: (1)The desire to satisfy personal concerns, which shows itself as assertive behavior, and (2)The desire to satisfy the concerns of others, which shows itself in non assertive behavior. These represent two behavioral dimensions and provide the basis for conflict handling modes. These behaviors are further incorporated into the concept built around the idea that people react in one of five basic ways when faced with interpersonal conflict situations; competing, collaborating, compromising, ... The famous children s nursery rhyme Ring of Roses is believed to be based on the black bubonic plague that struck Europe over the course of the 13th 16th century. In my opinion it makes sense when you analyse and link each line of this nursery rhyme it can easily be interpreted to mean something relating to the plague. Over time the nursery rhyme has differed in verses. The lyrics changing depending on the cultures and period in time it has been sung. As the poem has been passed down through the periods the adaptations of modern language has effected it but overall the verses always seem to be of the same meaning. Edward Jenner developed the vaccine after he noticed that Milkmaids who had already had cow pox did not catch small pox. Ironic, right? Cows in the meadow, cow pox. We all jump up could mean we all avoid death thanks to the vaccine. Small pox striked from the 15th 18th century infecting people during and very close to the bubonic plague time. Each primary accomplishes a different goal, which can range from establishing a favorite party to establishing a favorite candidate. After reviewing the four main types of primary systems in the American Democratic system, the system that provides the most benefits is the open primary system. A major benefit of the open primary system is that the voters are able to vote for their favorite candidate rather than their favorite party. A voter may not always identify solely with one party or their views may not always closely resemble the views expressed by their established party. Therefore an open ... • 48. F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby Essay Man dreams of living the life of the elite social class and of the power and admiration inherent within. F. Scott Fitzgerald comes to terms with this American dream in The Great Gatsby, a novel about social life in the 1920 s. The social hierarchy of the times plays a very important role in this novel. Here Fitzgerald illustrates three specific social classes: old money, new money, and lower class, with old money and new money taking center stage. Gatsby himself personifies new money; he made himself into a rich man through shady dealings. Tom Buchanan, on the other hand, represents old money. He received everything he has on a silver platter. He earned nothing but his inheritance. At the time, it was extremely desirable to be old money,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tom refuses because marrying into a lower social class would develop into even more of a scandal than having a mistress. This corrupted American dream prevents Tom from openly allowing Myrtle into his life. Old money s highly discriminating nature allows its members to attain superiority, while this self serving superiority further enhances their American dream. The attempts of new money to imitate old money remain futile. For example, although Daisy truly loves Gatsby, he represents new money. Despite his attempts to become old money, the old rich have never embraced him. Daisy cannot be with him because he is not and never will be of her class. Gatsby even offers to take the blame for a murder she committed, yet she will nott even leave her husband for him. quot; Was Daisy driving? Yes, he said after a moment. but of course I ll say I was. quot; (p. 151). Daisy allows Gatsby to take the blame for her without showing either remorse or gratitude. In this way, Fitzgerald shows that although old money people count themselves rich monetarily, they show a lack of morality and accountability. Daisy s carelessness and irresponsibility cause her to need others to clean up after her without caring who takes the fall. Old money s arrogance and haughtiness make their misguided American dream more of an American nightmare. The elite created the American dream in order to make themselves and others think they are superior. They are not, in fact, above all others, but have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the semester we have studied various examples discussing how gender has implications for religions devotees. New York: Macmillan, 1996. 318 The importance of this book is that it contains some of the works of poetry which were carried out by William Yeats. Arguably, the most salient feature in the book is the attempt at portraying the shift that characterized Yeats in his work, so that his works are arranged almost chronologically to underscore this standpoint. Works that depict him as a bard of the Celtic Twilight, reviving Rosicrucian symbols and legends are the most frontal. These are followed up by works which show the shift away from plush romanticism. The same are exhibited by the heavy presence of incantatory rhythms such as I will arise and go... and go to Innisfree . The same is seen... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poem is rich in its scope as it covers sundry topics ranging from children, to human behavior, life in the 20th century, the philosophy on life and life after death, among others. This poem is an eight lined stanza which is heavily laden with rhymes and the use of prosaic language. The poem has been written within the context of a visitor who has walked into a classroom under the guidance of a kind elderly nun. The importance of this poem to this reading is that in it, the poet addresses the dynamism that has shaped and continues to shape the civil society, progress and modernity, as opposed to the status quo ante which predated the Civil War or the Anglo Irish War. The importance of this poem to this reading is also seen in the fact that it betrays the political ideals that Yeats had: the poem implicates the speaker as being a senator. It is in after 1924 that Yeats served as a senator. This makes the poem sound like a poem which was penned down after the civil war, given that it is written from the standpoint of a more peaceful and politically stable Ireland. Thus, the poem is also instrumental as it lets the reader in into Yeats political orientation and leanings. Thus, the many qualities Yeats had and the many fields he operated in, in terms of career are well confirmed by this poem. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
