Essay on Tourism Effects on Machu Picchu
High in the Andean mountain range, nestled on a ridge between two mountains high above the valley
floor below sits the amazing city and archaeological site of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is about
1400 kilometers south of the Equator on the eastern slope of the Peruvian Andes. The site lies near the
head waters of the Amazon River and is on the ridge between two prominent mountain peaks Machu
Picchu and Hauyna Picchu about 500 meters above the valley bottom (Wright and Kenneth, 2 3).
Machu Picchu, believed to be the royal estate of the Inca ruler Pachacuti, is the most well known of all
the Inca archaeological sites. Professor Hiram Bingham discovered the site in July of 1911 and
excavated it with the help of National Geographic and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also encourages civic involvement and pride from the people. The tourist industry helps to provide
cultural exchanges between local people and tourists from around the globe. There is also the immense
benefit from the encouragement of and preservation of the celebration of local festivals and cultural
events that might otherwise be lost over time. The final benefit to the social aspect of Machu Picchu s
community is that the tourism industry helps to facilitate the infrastructure and facilities that are used
by tourism (e.g. the railway) and in doing so, it can prove to also benefit the residents as well (e.g.
transportation maintenance and support). (Barcelona Field Studies Centre S.L., Machu Picchu: Impact
of Tourism)
Tourism also has its costs/down sides. One of the social costs to the community because of tourism is
that it may attract visitors whose lifestyles and ideas may conflict with the community s (which
commonly happens throughout the world, a good example of this can be seen in the settling of North
America, and the effect it had on the Native Americans). Tourism could also lead to the overloading of
porters which would lead to health problems. A loss of traditional values and culture is a possible
outcome as well, through imitation of visitor behavior or

Theological Analysis Essay
Theological Analysis In reflecting on this situation, the passages of on the characteristics of those who
are shepherds and those who are not come to mind. In the Gospel of John, Jesus communicates the
demands of being a shepherd of church. I am the good shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me,
just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I will lay down my life for the sheep. I have
other sheep that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and
there will be one flock, one shepherd (John 10:14 16). This passage models the expectations for those
who minister, both pastors and lay ecclesial ministers, to the faithful. We are called to lead the faithful
to deeper love and knowledge of the Lord. We must be ready to forgo our preferences and desires for
the needs of those we minister to. Compelled to share eternal life with all, we ... Show more content

Gender, Gender Identity And Sexual Orientation Essay
Many parents voice a fear about their child learning about gender, gender identity, and sexual
orientation. They think that hearing, seeing, or learning these things will influence their child.
According to research, however, no matter how often children are exposed to these topics they still
will make their own decisions later on in life on the matter. Often parents are upset when they hear
their children are learning about these terms because they do not know the dictionaries definitions for
these words are. According to webster; gender is the state of being male or female, the word typically
used to reference social and cultural differences rather than biological ones. Gender identity is a
person s perception of having a particular gender that may not correspond with the sex they were
given at birth. Sexual orientation is a person s sexual identity in relation to the gender to which they
are attracted. Many times a person s sexual orientation can be labeled as heterosexual, homosexual, or
bisexual. Diversity is an important lesson to teach children especially at a young age. To understand
how to best teach diversity about gender in a classroom background information, teaching strategies,
and student s understanding of diversity is important.
Diversity activities teach children to respect and celebrate the differences in all people. Gender, gender
identity, and sexual orientation are controversial topics in today s day and age. Even in 2017 people

Sweatshops In Developing Countries
Todays, when the citizenship is concentrated, sweatshop is becoming a striking issue of controversies.
Especially in developed countries, this problem is always boycotted, but on the other hand it is an
opportunity for people in underdeveloped countries to change their lives. Although sweatshop is
considered as a complex issue with underpayment and underworking environment, they are beneficial
to change the old ideologies, economic growth, and fair working conditions. Firstly, women choose to
work in sweatshops in developing countries because this is their only source step out of unavailable
and unthinkable situation. Women in these countries tolerated outdated beliefs, such as being
restricted to domestic chores and relying on their husbands. Their lives are always in a vicious circle
that they want to escape but do not know the right way, so working in sweatshops provide women not
only chance to create stable income, but also sense of their own independence. As the writer mentions
that with the small income from garment sweatshop, women in Bangladesh can manage their finances,
have their own choice in marriage and having children (Sachs, quoted in Garyfalakis, para5).
Moreover, they have chance to go to school and gain their special skills. For example, earning $1 to
$2 in Indonesia or Bangladesh sounds unbelievable, but it can help a woman feed her kids and restrict
diarrhea disease (Kristof and Wudunn, 2000). Women in these countries also admitted that even

The Historical Similarities Of Adolf Hitler And Donald Trump
Many conditions point towards Adolf Hitler and Donald Trump with how they took power as political
leaders. Hitler and Trump both put down people of different backgrounds based on looks, people who
love different, etc. The trend that Americans are seeing today is similar to what Germany imposed on
their people back in the 1930 s. The slow gradual steps of oppression and discrimination that Trump
does everyday will eventually cause the downfall of America if we do not speak up and realize how
wrong all of this is. To better understand what factors would cause one to imply such a claim it is
important to understand Adolf Hitler s background and Donald Trump s background and the historical
comparisons.
IMPOSING THE ASSUMPTION OF HOW TRUMP IS SIMILAR TO HITLER Adolf Hitler was
born on April 20, 1889, in the Upper Austrian border town Braunau am Inn, located approximately 65
miles east east of Munich and nearly 30 miles north of Salzburg. In 1898, the Hitler moved with his
family to Linz, the capital of Upper Austria. Hitler always has a passion for art. However, Hitler s
father never approved of him pursuing art. Hitler s father wanted him to seek interest in the job of
entering into the Hasburg Civil Service. Soon later though Hitler s father passed and the death of him
meant that he could now pursue his dream of becoming an artist. In 1907 Hitler decided that he
wanted to try and gain acceptance to the Academy of the Arts in Vienna. Hitler failed miserably at

Horror Film Analysis
Horror Essay
Horror films are movies that aim to elicit a strong physiological reaction in the viewer, such as raised
heartbeat and fear. Three horror films by the names of Psycho, Scream and The Messengers will be
analysed and compared to an episode of the popular children s show Shaun the Sheep. Five elements
will be addressed in this analysis, those being camera techniques, Mise en scene, Editing, Lighting and
Sound.
In all of the previously mentioned films, there are a range of camera techniques being utilized to their
advantage. In the horror film Psycho, they use extreme close ups to help show emotions or to add
drama. Point of View filming is also common in all three of the films, as POV can make the viewer
feel more engaged and being able to see what the victim in the film can see adds an element of fear
that wouldn t be able to be achieved if everything was shot in 3rd person. For example, in Scream, it is
often filmed in the Point of View of the victim who is being stalked and later killed by the antagonist
and shows things such as the girls boyfriend tied to a chair or the killer running through her house.
Another technique that is used in these films is Mise en scene.
Mise en scene is the arrangement of everything that appears on screen, such as the actors, props and
costumes. In the movie Scream, the characters wear outfits to make their roles obvious. The girl s
boyfriend is wearing a highschool jersey which shows who he is quite easily and the killer is

Eugene Onegin Essay
A classic example of the principle that women mature faster than men, courtesy of an early 19th
century (male) Russian author ...
A tremendous explosion of emotion, of pain intermingled with joy is what transpires at the end of
Onegin, since there is an acknowledgment of a frustrated yet genuine and abiding love on both
characters parts. Pushkin s Eugene Onegin travels throughout the world only to discover that what is
most precious in it is the modest, shy Tatiana s heart which he had arrogantly set aside years ago in
order to pursue his vain and false ambitions. His final effort to woo Tatiana is no base attempt to
seduce a married woman, but a cathartic, necessary atonement for his earlier haughty dismissal of her.
At long, long last the young woman s heartbreaking love letter heartbreaking for her, in time for
Onegin, forever for readers gets the commensurate response from its original recipient it deserves.
Tatiana s rejection of his overtures has little to do with revenge, but is the ultimate validation of her
character and worth. A physical relationship between the two is not just unthinkable since she is now
married to a fine man, but as a result of Onegin s responsibility over what happened to her sister and

Labors And Slavery During The Gilded Age
During the Gilded Age both labors and farmers had very strong reasons to have these complaints.
Labors were treated as minorities, controlled by their bosses and weren t getting paid what they
deserved so this led to the unionizations, strikes and vandalisms. Farmers were in declined because
bigger farms were taking over and they were getting less money. They didn t understand why this was
happening if they had new machines, so this led to the Green Revolution and several political
activities. However, these complaints that both labors and farmers have, have their similarities and
differences.
Labors did not have very good wages and it was problem during the Gilded Age. Labors had to live by
paternalism, meaning that George Pullman owned them. It seems as if labors never got a profit for the
long hours that they worked in the sweatshops. All the money goes straight back to Pullman, because
they had to pay for rent and their goods and groceries provided by him. So basically, Pullman didn t
consider them valuable because there was always someone looking for a job. These reasons led to
several unionizations like the Knights of Labor where they had to pay their dues to go on strike and
fight for them. Anyone from radical to bosses could join this union except bankers and lawyers, which
made no sense. They fought for workplace rights but where they did wrong is when they demanded
outside workplace rights such as free public schools for their children. This union caused deaths

Every situation and every person you come into contact with and meet has been socialized in a certain
way, and the root of this behavior lies in sociology. How we react to certain social situations, how we
interpret or read another person s actions, how we respond to other individuals, are all dependent on
sociology. From this course, I hope to better be able to understand why people act and behave the way
they do. I hope to learn more about significant social issues that are widespread throughout the world
today and about social forces to help bring about change. On a deeper level, I want to understand why
sociology is that window to being able to think on a different level, and the key to understanding those
underlying human connections/behavior. For example, why is there a mental health stigma? Why do
stereotypes exist? Where do social norms and social constructs stem from? Why does society breed
the type of mentality where photoshop and runway models are the standards of beauty? All of the
answers to these questions lie in sociological theories and concepts. I also hope that this course can
help me to understand other social problems, such as racism, crime, poverty, violence, sexism, and
how to contribute to their solutions. I am eager to learn more about sociology throughout the semester,

have a negative affecting on children. In fact, it only discourage children from striving for success
knowing that there will be no rewards but only criticism. This is reflected Lac s experiences

Dostoevsky s Crime And Punishment
Dostoevsky s Crime and Punishment contains an abundance of confusing scenes that are frequently
left up to the interpretation of the reader. Many of these scenes are focused on Raskolnikov and the
fact that he often blurs together his conscious and subconscious states. Therefore, the reader is left to
contemplate the validity of certain situations. When reading a novel as hefty as Crime and Punishment
it is important to pick apart some of the many subtleties in order to gain more insight to both the novel
as a whole and the psyche of Raskolnikov. In an attempt to better understand Raskolnikov s
disorientation between his conscious and subconscious states, it is helpful to break down and analyze
Raskolnikov s third dream and some of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the reader gets a lot of insight into Raskolnikov s thoughts through the way Dostoevsky sets
up the narrative of the novel, we never imagine what it s like to actively think like Raskolnikov. Yet,
still, a question remains. Why would Dostoevsky fully submerge the reader into the mind of a
murderer?
Dostoevsky is attempting to have the reader connect to Raskolnikov. This instance of Raskolnikov s
haziness between the conscious and the subconscious is similar to having an incredibly realistic
dream; you wake up feeling as though what you dreamt about actually happened to you. This act of
vivid dreaming can sometimes be caused by any subconscious emotions felt leading up to the moment
you fall asleep. In Raskolnikov s case, whether or not he feels any sort of genuine guilt for murdering
Alyona is fairly ambiguous, but it is obvious that he is paranoid about the idea of being caught. For
example, shortly before Raskolnikov s run in with the tradesman, he and Razumikhin go speak with
Porfiry and Zamyotov. Throughout their meeting, Raskolnikov seems to be on edge. He even states, I
m feverish again!...Did Porfiry wink at me just now, or not? Must be nonsense; why would he wink?
Do they want to irritate my nerves, or are they taunting me? Either it s all a mirage, or they
know!...They must have been talking about me before we came! (254 5). Raskolnikov, just like his

Tobacco And Its Effects On The United States
Tobacco is the number one cause of preventable death in the United States. According to the American
Lung Association in 2009, 20.6% of adults were current smokers. In 1970, the United States banned
television and radio advertisements of cigarettes. Across the world countries battle similar issues in
how to help prevent deaths, lower healthcare costs, and educate the population. Countries have banned
advertising, posted health causes, renamed brands, and even included informational fliers in packs of
cigarettes. In 2001, The Government of India decided to ban the advertising of cigarettes. This ban
was created to help the youth of India and hoped to reduce the amount of future smokers. The
proposal of this restriction caused debates between the government, advertising companies, and
tobacco manufacturers. The supporting and dismantling arguments for these ethical and commercial
causes of the ban have enabled the government to make their final decision. The Government of India
has created an anti tobacco plan to tackle the growing issues of tobacco, health concerns, and rising
death toll. Their first goal was to eliminate advertising as this was perceived to encourage the youth to
take up the dangerous habit. This ban posed ethical and commercial challenges for both sides of the
argument. The government has the power to pass laws to help prevent people from smoking and
protect its people. They found the ethical decision was to use this power by creating and

Masquerading Colonial Innocence in Rudyard Kipling s Kim
Kim: Masquerading Colonial Innocence Introduction Rudyard Kipling was one of the most famous
writers of his time, and his popular novel Kim, had first become published in 1901, has turned into
one of his most infamous non juvenile writing masterpieces. The novel happens during a time and
place that is contemporary to the publication of the book; the location is set in India up under the reign
of the British Empire. The main character is a boy of Irish descent who has been an orphan that has
grown up in the streets of India, that is cared for by a half caste woman, a keeper of an opium den. The
character of Kim, is very energetic and playful, even though full blooded Irish, he still grows up as a
native and gets skills to seamlessly incorporate into the numerous ethnic and religious factions of the
Indian country. When he meets a wandering Tibetan lama who is out to look for a sacred river, Kim
becomes his follower and moves on into a journey that covers the whole country of India. Kipling
story of Kim s journey during the subcontinent provided him a chance to describe the many peoples
and cultures comprised in India, and a noteworthy section of the novel is dedicated to such metaphors,
which have been both praised as visionary and magical ridiculed as imperialistic and stereotypical.

American Imperialism In The Philippines Research Paper
Mikayla White 10/20/17 Period 6 American Imperialism in the Philippines Before the Spanish
American war occurred, the Philippines were under the control of Spain; after, they were at the mercy
of America and their decision on whether or not to annex them. Unfortunately, America decided to
annex them because it would be dishonorable to give the Philippines back to Spain and it would also
open up a trade route between the two nations. However, America should not have annexed the
Philippines as Americans and Filipinos could have still traded if they became allies instead, and while
annexing the Philippines they got rid of their culture and customs. Additionally, Americans feared that
annexing the Philippines was a step towards creating an American Empire. One reason that America
decided to annex the Philippines was to make sure that France or Germany couldn t trade with them.
However, if America decided to create an alliance instead of the Treaty of Paris they would have still
been able to trade with the Filipinos. This way the Philippines could have had a strong ally as well as a
trading partner; which America could have made a good commercial profit from. As William Jennings

Improving The Performance Of Rapid Re Housing Programs And...
Alternative 3 Home to Stay One way D.C. can enhance the performance of Rapid Re Housing
programs and lower the rate of individuals/families returning back to homelessness is to emulate the
model that NYC has been following for the past few years. A few years ago NYC launched the Home
to Stay program (Bornstein, 2014). Home to Stay is a partnership between New York s Department of
Homeless Services and four other organizations committed to fighting homelessness (Bornstein,
2014). Home to Stay uses an evidence based protocol known as Family Critical Time Intervention
which is intended to motivate individuals and heads of families over nine months to take an advantage
of support services, such as addiction and mental health counseling, conflict mediation, and
improvement of job prospects (Bornstein, 2014). The program follows an extensive and rigorous
screening procedure in order identify and select the most vulnerable and needy homeless individuals
and families who must have access to the supportive services the program provides (Bornstein, 2014).
Though Home to Stay does not target the homelessness population as a whole, program expansion is a
future possibility. While there is no concrete data that measures the performance of Home to Stay,
testimonies from individuals and families that participated in the program indicate that there is a
promising future (Bornstein, 2014). Individuals and families that were previously homeless believe

had a seal on it contains no maggots because flies couldn t enter into the jar to create any maggots.
This experiment did not prove anything to Redi s antagonists which claimed the spontaneous
generation needed fresh air. Redi composed of another experiment with a jar of decaying meat that he
covered this time around with a net. There still wasn t a sign of maggots even with air being able to
enter into the jar. Although Redi proved his theory, many scientist still believed that nonliving matter

Englishman name John Needham discovered that the existence of microorganisms were real when he
boiled chicken broth and corn broth and then pour them both into flasks for them to cool off. The
results showed that the broths both contain microorganisms that were developed by the microbes. An
Italian scientist Lazzaro Spallanzani suggested 20 years after Needham discovering proclaiming that
Needham may have allowed microorganisms to seep into the broth from the air after the broth was

Wicca And Witchcraft
Witchcraft is a religion. Wicca is one form of Witchcraft; however, the term Wicca is occasionally
applied to Witchcraft in overall. In the United States, most individuals who practice this religion
identify themselves as Witches or Wiccans. Wicca is an earth based religion and in some ways is akin
to the Native American spirituality. Wicca, which is sometimes called The Craft, Wicce, or The Old
Religion, is centered on an ancient religion of nature and love of life. Most federal and governments as
well as the U.S. Armed Forces recognize the religion of Wicca. The courts have acknowledged the
right of even inmates to perform this religion on the same basis as other religions.
In ancient times, people appreciated Nature with its great forces and celebrated the cycles of the
seasons and the moon. They understood the spirituality in the sun as well as the moon and in the Earth
Herself. When you come right down to it, in all of life.
This perspective is in spite of everything, vital to present day Wicca. To most Wiccans, everything in
Nature, together with the Goddesses and Gods, is a true aspect of Deity. The elements most often
notable in the Craft are the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone, which is known as the Triple Goddess
of the Moon and in addition the Horned God. These have numerous names in a number of cultures.
Wicca is personal, flexible and all encompassing. You will find no two Wiccans observe their faith in
exactly the same way but all are accepted. This can only

Nuclear Power And Nuclear Waste
Nuclear power, the type of energy that sits on the edge of humanity s greatest hopes, and its darkest
fears. With a country such as the United States continuing to expand its industry, housing, agriculture
and commercial buildings there is a need for more and more energy each year. Nuclear power is one
of the many ways the United States gets its energy. Nevertheless, it is one of the most controversial
means of energy production. The main concern with nuclear energy is the nuclear waste that is
produced along with it. The potential health and environmental risks posed by nuclear waste is what
truly scares some of the American public. Therefore, is the amount of energy output by nuclear power
plants outweigh the potential risks that nuclear waste can have on human health and the environment?
Nuclear power plants should be kept as a means of generating energy for the United States, however,
transportation and storage of nuclear waste needs to continuously be checked for safer alternatives.
Nuclear waste is generally defined as a variety of solids, liquids and gases which are produced during
the generation of nuclear energy through the process of fission, mining of Uranium, nuclear research
and weapons production (Shah, Abhishek). Nuclear waste created by a nuclear power plant is not as
complicated as one might think. First water is heated in the reactor when uranium atoms split and
cause fission, then the heated water is transferred to the primary

Understanding the needs, concerns and the attitudes of the clients is important on the part of the client
human services providers, since it will help them to provide quality services to the clients. Some
social, cultural, and personal factors do affect the provision of services to the clients. For a client to
gain quality and satisfaction on the goods that are being provided by the service provider, it is
important for the provider to assess their needs and even know them before going to provide the
services to them. This paper aims at looking at the range of problems that affect clients who consume

For example, some people argue that by using a family planning method, the user will eventually
become infertile. This is only a rumor and has not scientifically proven. Nonetheless, it prevents many
people from receiving the service because of associating the rumor to family planning methods (Stan,
2011).
Access, costs and availability are also factors that serve to render the provision of human services to
be ineffective. A client may be very willing to utilize the service but they cannot asses the service. The
best method in ensuring service delivery if effective is by making sure that all the prospective and
targeted clients can access the service. The issue of distance affects many clients in receiving human
service s needs. The human service providers may determine the point of access and assume that it is
favorable for all the clients. On the contrary, the point of access may be a long distance for some
clients. Such clients will not be able to get the services. The other factor related with these is cost.
Some human services are very costly to the clients. To get them, the clients have to dig deep into their
pockets. In this note, inadequate finances on the side of the client prevent them from accessing the
services.
Clients have their personal choices and preferences when they are receiving services from the service
providers. The care given will depend on whether the clients have

The Influence Of The American Enlightenment
From 1714 to 1818 new ideas and thinking began to sweep across colonial America in a period known
as American Enlightenment. The American Enlightenment has been seen as the key role in in the start
of the American Revolution which led to American freedom. The Enlightenment gave colonist the
ability to speak their mind whether it was in Religion, Science or Math. American Philosopher and
Politician Thomas Paine saw this time as an opportunity to express his opinion Great Britain and
change colonist views on Britain and start of Revolution. He did so in writing one of the most
influential texts in American History in Common Sense. Paine is seen as a founding father and the
voice of the American Revolution and Enlightenment for his influence on American opinion through
writing.
During the Enlightenment new ideas bgan to come alive such as Republicanism, Liberalism and
conservatism. These new ways of thinking set into the minds of colonist everywhere and people began
to piece together a rebellion against Britain for independence which was the key focus on the
American Enlightenment. On January 10th, 1776 Thomas Paine published his famous Common Sense
which incorporated the ideas of the American Enlightenment in a piece that advocated for American
Independence for freedom. Common Sense united the common colonist with the american
revolutionary politicians under one pamphlet. In Common Sense Paine used many idea brought forth

The Term Effects Of The Spanish American War Of 1898
Throughout history, there have many wars that caused by many different reasons. Also, all war can

The Art Museum s Gallery 7
On Saturday, October 22nd I made the hour and a half trip to the Legion of Honor in San Francisco.
Upon arriving I could see the tall ivory pillars surrounding the entrances of the museum, a reminder of
the Neoclassical age in art history evident in 18th century Europe. Figures Amongst Ruins (Ruins with
Sybil) is a 25.5 inch by 19.5 inch painting ( Figures Amongst ) that hangs in the far corner of the art
museum s Gallery 7. It s calming colors and stunning depiction of decayed ruins captures my
attention. The history for Ruins with Sybil increases the value of its power of captivation. Giovanni
Paolo Panini, the painter of Ruins with Sybil, was born in Italy in 1691( Panini, Giovanni Paolo ). He
originally worked as a fresco painter and architect, but later became known for oil canvas paintings
like Ruins with Sybil where he would paint capriccio and veduta paintings of ancient roman ruins to
sell to tourists on the Grand Tour ( Panini, Giovanni Paolo ). Ruins with Sybil, which was made in
1731, is an example of one of his capriccio paintings. Elements seen capriccio paintings are partially
based on actual places but incorporate imaginative elements (Stokstad and Cothren, 915). These
pieces were an important part of history because they acted as visualization of the values at Panini s
time. The Grand Tour was a way of expanding cultural knowledge. For Panini to produce pieces of art
based on ancient Roman and Greek ruins for these tours is a prime example of the

Black Like Me, By John Howard Griffin
Over fifty years ago, a Texan named John Howard Griffin decided to start a revolutionary experiment
to change the color of his skin and experience racism in the South firsthand. While considered
extremely controversial at the time, the arguments and teachings of Griffin in his book, Black Like
Me, are still scrutinized and discussed today. The book has continued to enlighten readers to the
oppressive, violent racism in America, and aided them in realizing that racism, while it may be hidden,
is still prevalent today. It has encouraged a new generation to work towards equality, while warning
about the dangers of supremacy, to progressively improve society for all. Readers are exposed to the
fact that many deny the existence of racism by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While it may be harmless, it still exists today. The idea that someone is different will subconsciously
make one act different, as Banaji experiences (Vedantam). Griffin too experiences this, when he is
hitchhiking and white males are offering him rides; he is astounded that they would ask such
provoking and private questions about his personal life. Griffin realizes that they would not ask the
same questions to a white man for the fear of being rude, but when talking to a black man, they see
them as subhuman (Griffin 86). Many would believe it is not a racist act, as the white men are helping
them and they are not harming them. However, by treating them so rudely and cruelly, while it may be
unconsciously, they are affecting them psychologically, which is possible to do in many ways.
As society has progressed towards non violence, racism has changed into a different form, with
harsher psychological effects. A main cause of this psychological effect of racism is the stereotyping
that society has accepted as normal (Anderson). Although it may be unintentional, it is easy to deny
stereotyping exists, but difficult to prove that it does not exist. As Griffin recounts, white society had
everything sewed up. If you didn t...say yes, you were in deep trouble. If you did, then you allowed
[them] to go...on believing in the stereotype (Griffin 167). He explains the idea society had created of

A Small Nips And The Bloody Chamber
Luce Irigaray in Women on the Market, put forth the theory that our own culture, is based upon the
exchange of women and that women are relegated to three social roles. Those roles are mother, virgin,
prostitute (807,8). She then states that the enigmatic character of women comes from the form of the
needs /desires of man (806). We are mother or prostitute determinate on man s need. She also argued
that man s libido is another name for the abstraction of energy in a productive power (806). Men use
their libido to control nature. She then argues that another name for the subordination of the specific
qualities of bodies to a neutral power that aims above all to transform them, to possess them (806).
Men transform women to his need, hence the role of mother or prostitute, and thus possess them. In
Frida Kahlo s painting, A Few Small Nips and in Angela Carter s shorty story The Bloody Chamber,
both share the theme of death as transformation for man to possess the main characters.
In Frida Kahlo s painting, A Few Small Nips, a woman lies mostly naked on white sheets. She has on
one high heeled shoe, and a rumpled sock. She has been sliced and poked by the knife that the man
standing above her is holding. The sheets are covered in blood, her body is covered in blood, and the
floor is covered in the blood. The woman is clearly dead, and the man standing above her is relaxed,

The Use of Steroids in Major League Baseball

scared and stopped his steroid problem. When Giambi reported to spring training this year, he came in

athlete discontinues his steroid cycle.
Steroids are becoming a huge problem in Major League Baseball. Records in the past, such as the
single season home run record, were set by people who were truly amazing athletes and achieved their
record from hard work and dedication. From 1966 through 1994, two players hit at least 50 or more
home runs. Since 1995, 18 players have reached 50. Roger Maris single season record of 61 home

chemically making themselves stronger so that they can make record books, and they are ruining their
bodies as well as the competition to do it. Players now have to start juicin up just to contend with the
competition. The NBA, NFL, NCAA, and Olympics all ban steroids, and it is coming to the day where
baseball needs too as well (Caminiti).

The Supreme Court Decisions Shape Our Country s Future
There is absolutely no resistance to the idea that the Supreme Court s decisions shape our country s
future. Decisions like Brown v Board of Education, or Obergefell v Hodges have dramatically
changed some laws and restrictions seem as derogatory and contrary to our equalitarian society. The
question that many people pose however, is why some Supreme Court decisions implemented almost
immediately, and others take a while to even gain some sense of traction. Expert opinions differ, but
they all almost revolve around the idea that political inclination often determine implementation and
respect of laws. Others say resistance to Supreme Court decisions stem from the parties involved and
their interests. Needless to say, almost every theory and opinion in this case bear some truth. By The
People, For The Congress As we all know, Congress is one of the three bodies of our government that
is elected by the people. This often give the congress some type of legitimacy as lawmakers pretend to
carry out the wishes of their constituents. We have however seen many instances where personal
political gains trumped the wishes of the people. One main reason why Supreme Court rulings are
ignored is the political agenda of congressmen and women. Senator Cruz who happens to be one of
the current s court enemy, has advocated for restrictions on the Supreme Court simply because some
laws voted were contrary to his ideals, and those of the people who rally behind him. In the recent Gay

company but with two different leadership styles. I will be comparing and contrasting their leadership
styles, as well as making some suggestions based on the information provided. This organization was

The Relief and Intaglio Printmaking Process
Describe the Relief Printmaking process. List an artist who uses the form of printmaking. Refer to this
video for more information.
The Relief Printmaking process is a printmaking process in which someone covers a block of material,
such as wood, in ink. Then they proceed to deeply etch out the inked surface in the form of a design.
Once that is done, they lay paper over the block with pressure so that the ink is shared generously all
over the paper. When the paper is removed, the design will have been transferred and they will have
the finished artwork. Using a block of wood is known as Woodcut Relief Printmaking, or Woodcuts .
There are also Wood Engravings, where a stronger type of wood is used so an artist can engrave an
image into the surface rather than cut it out. In my opinion, the second step of the process could be left
to remain as the art itself. In the video showing the process as Lyell Castonguay created his piece,
Hydra , I thought the design in the ink coated wood looked more bold and real than the actually piece.
But this may only be for the reason that the finished product lacked color in comparison. Of course,
Lyell isn t the only artist who uses this printmaking process. Another artist who uses Relief
Printmaking is Katsushika Hokusai. Hokusai used the same process to create his color woodcut piece
called South Wind, Clear Sky , a portrayal of Mount Fuji. Describe the Intaglio Printmaking process.

Types Of Cross Curricular Instruction
Introduction There are several types of cross curricular instruction that teachers can use in today s
classroom. Comprehension strategies are a very important concept in cross curricular instruction. In
Chapter 12 of the Birsh text, Eileen Marzola quotes Gough (1996) and Torgesen (1998) to state that
two essential tools required for good reading comprehension are strong general language
comprehension and accurate, fluent word reading skills. Using these skills in different contexts is
some time difficult for struggling readers. Struggling students do not always have the ability to know
what strategy to use or when it is appropriate to use such strategy. During my time student teaching in
first grade, we used several reading concepts that included, get your mouth ready, or did it sound right,
to teach students to read during guided reading lessons. However, it was difficult for these young
readers to use these concepts in different lessons throughout the day.
Parallel Curriculum Integration Cross Curriculum instruction becomes very important for these
students. One such method is Parallel Curriculum Integration. In this type of integration, teachers from
different subject areas use the same theme. In an elementary classroom, students often experience this
approach at learning centers. For a theme such as patterns, each learning center has an activity that
allows the students to explore patterns from the perspective of one discipline math, language, science,

Delirium is a neurocognitive disorder that is characterized by a disturbance in attention, awareness and

manifested by confusion, disorientation, hallucinations, illusions, clouding of consciousness and

able to identify early signs and symptoms of delirium is also vital in preventing increased

or Alzheimer s patient. It is effective because it can help reduce the worsening and shorten the

important in treating the patient s specific situations. I also believe that understanding the root cause of

number of individuals are playing video games before college and while they are still at home, living
with their parents and attending grade school. Media misrepresents video games as a violent
distraction for its audiences. Stereotypes of games like Grand Theft Auto or Mortal Kombat have
dramatically changed the video game world.
When playing violent video games most players can distinguish the difference between the game and
reality, but for others their game and realities are the same. According to Tom Mcgrath, violent
shooting games might not be just a game to some people. Playing a

Abraham Lincoln And The Civil War Essay
Introduction
The Civil War was a war between the union, and confederate states in the United States that occurred
from 1861 1865. Many people believed that the Civil War was about slavery and southern states right
to defend their states rights. The confederates were fighting for their liberty and independence under
the leadership of Abraham Lincoln, who they felt was a tyrant. However, the union, was fighting to
preserve their territory, that was created by their founding fathers from chaos and dismemberment.
President Jefferson Davis believed that the civil war was based on the confederate rights to secede
from the union. Jefferson also felt that Abraham Lincoln was to blamed for the start of the civil war,
since he was against slavery. Lincoln s intended goal was to preserve the union, he claimed slavery
was not the reason. If I could save the union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could
save it by freeing all slaves I would do it, and if I could slave it by freeing some and leaving others
alone I would also do that (Shi Tindall, 2015, pg.465) . Lincoln told everyone that if the southern
states were to return to the union that slavery would still exist. However, many people believed that
Lincoln wasn t being truthful.
Geographical Regions
During this time frame The United States consisted of three geographic regions, the north, south, and
the west. There was a lot of competition between these regions, the question of whether slavery should

Pride and Prejudice Journal Entries Essay
English 10 Honors Pride and Prejudice: Jane Austen 1. It is a truth universally acknowledged that a
single man in possession of a good fortune must be in wants of a wife Chapter 1 | During the time
period that this book takes place, this quote could be proven true. At this time, there were arranged
marriages based on a mans place in society and his fortune. Today, people get married because they
are in love. Some people may marry others based on their financial standings but there are many
wealthy people, my aunt for example, who have no desire to rush into marriage. | 2. A young man, Mr.
Bingley, has arrived in town. He is wealthy and successful. Parents dream of their daughters finding a
husband like him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My opinion of Mr. Bingley changed a bit at this point in the book. At first I saw him as a gentleman in
love who would never do something to ruin that, but he suddenly leaves after all of the affection he
has shown toward Jane. In my opinion, this doesn t seem right or fair to Jane. | 10. Mrs. Bennet | I
found Mrs. Bennet to be annoying throughout this book. Her only concern was for all five of her
daughters to get married, since they have no money. The importance of women being married during
this time was shown through her character. | 11. During a conversation that Elizabeth has with Colonel
Fitzwilliam, he mentions that Darcy claims to have recently saved a friend from an imprudent
marriage. Elizabeth discovers that the friend he is speaking of is Mr. Bingley and his possible
marriage to her sister Jane. Chapter 33 | When Elizabeth discovers this, she has all the more reason to
dislike Mr. Darcy. She blames him for Jane s unhappiness, and believes that he purposely sabotaged
their relationship. | 12. In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You
must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you. Chapter 34 | This quote is a very
surprising one. Darcy went from not being interested in Elizabeth to confessing his love for her and
proposing. You can tell Darcy is truly in love with her because he first came across as a cold heartless
man and then

Pressure Distribution Around Symmetrical Aerofoilc
Pressure Distribution around a Symmetric Aerofoil
Abstract:
The following report is based on an experiment conducted to calculate the lift curve slope for a
symmetrical aerofoil subjected to varying angles of attack. Pressure readings were taken at different
points on the upper and lower surface of the aerofoil. The report concludes that maximum lift is
generated between 12 º 15º, which is also the stall point. It also states that region close to the leading
edge contributes most to the lift force.
Introduction:
This experiment is designed to measure the static pressure distribution around a symmetric aerofoil,
find the normal force and hence to determine the lift curve slope.
For zero angle of attack the pressure distribution is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the graphs above it can be seen that maximum suction for all the angles (except 4º) exists at
Hole 1, which is 1.27 mm from the leading edge on the upper surface. The angle of attack at which
most suction is achieved is 11º where the CP value reaches 3.0; and it increases as the angle of attack
is increased or decreased from 11º.
The CP values at the trailing edge vary for different angles. They all range between 0 and 0.5. It is
maximum at 4º and 0º while it is minimum at 16º.
For all positive angles, the lowest CP values are found around 1.27 mm from the leading edge on the
upper surface while the highest CP values are found around 2.29mm from the leading edge on the
lower surface of the aerofoil. Such that, the maximum differences in the CP values exists at these
points, which are closest to the leading edge. The bigger the difference between CP values the greater
the lift force as the suction is maximum. Therefore, it can be concluded that the region close to the
leading edge of the aerofoil contributes most to the lift force.
The Lift Coefficient CL is calculated using the graphs 1 6. In this report counting the squares method
is used to calculate the area between the curves for pressure distribution on the upper surface and
lower surface. The area gives the lift coefficient at particular angles

The Four Mythical Elements Of Whale Rider
Many voyages that heroin s encounter are regularly identified with the four mythical functions. In the
film, Whale Rider, through mythical creation powers, the hero endeavors to save her dying culture.
The creation myths power permits the courageous woman, Pai, to find her actual calling as a real
leader of the Maori tribe. By utilizing the myths, she dynamically finds her legend s adventure by
breaking down the images throughout her life. According to Campbell as discussed in Indick article,
this model The Monomyth has different functions as he clarifies the sociological, mysterious,
cosmological, and mental elements of myth (pg, 2). Campbell depicts the vital capacities including

For the kid who might be the chief (Whale). Paikea turns out to be strongly fascinated on this legend
because of the way that she is the latest of the bloodline descendant, which implies she is prepared to
make every one of the basic decisions of being a chief other than the reality of being female. The
youthful heroic girl refers to the legend when contrasting with herself as an approach to empower her
rising as the current bloodline descendant. She keeps on participating in the myth all through the
movie with a specific end goal to express her enthusiasm for her way of life (William, 3).
Similarly, William in page three explains that Campbell clarifies cosmological capacities as stories
enable the person to decide his/her place in the universe. The stellar capacity applies for the Whale
Rider because of the principle character growing up being recounted of their legend of how the Maori
tribe traveled to the territory they are acclimated to now. Pai characterizes herself alongside her family
history; she expresses a long time ago, my ancestor Paikea came to this place on the back of a whale.
Since then, in every generation of my family, the firstborn son has carried his name and become the
leader of our tribe... until now, (Whale). She continually alludes back to the legend of her predecessor,
Paikea, as a path for her to get the idea she is fit to do likewise. Like her predecessor, Paikea could

I went to a fight the other night and a hockey game broke out. Rodney Dangerfield. Ever since the
start to the game of hockey, violence has always played a role in the sport. While that role both
contributing positive and negative aspects to the game, violence has taken its toll on not only the
players but the fans as well. As violence in hockey is as many fans say part of the game and what
makes hockey hockey, the negative outcomes overweigh the positive. From fights to brawls, slashes to
high sticks, boarding to head contact the violence surrounds the entire game. As fans cheer and rant at

Nevertheless, it is difficult to accept that violence is incidental when NHL players who specialize in
fighting, goons or enforcers, are paid a premium for this behavior even though their hockey skills are
marginal and those who refuse to fight are consigned to the minor leagues as punishment.
However, when looking specifically at the economic value that violence is an attribute of the product
intentionally promoted by leagues and teams to increase attendance and profits. The underlying
assumption is that fans have a taste for violence, and violence attracts larger crowds, larger crowds
increase revenue, which, given costs, increases profits. This hypothesis is compatible with the
response of successive NHL presidents when the question of violence is raised: that the league is in
the entertainment business and therefore has to put on a spectacle. It is also consistent with the act of
paying players a premium to fight and the statistical finding that violence and NHL attendance are
positively correlated. While it is quite clear that violence was widespread in hockey before and during
the early years of the NHL, when it was strictly a Canadian game, as some of the classic NHL brawls
have taken place in Canada between Canadian teams, and the largest NHL fan riot occurred in
Montreal.

Specifically, IgA to test for congenital hypogammaglobinemia. At this point we do not know if
treatment with S1P receptor modulators results in low IgG. I suspect, corticosteroid exposure plays a
role as well. Knowing the IgG levels could help us understand infection risks.
Ryan: All are excellent points. Our global colleagues ascertained some of the IgG, IgM IgA levels in
the BioBank study. In this study pts. were followed over time 1,4,6 month and long term extension up
to 84 month. I had an opportunity to discuss it with our global colleagues this year at AAN in Boston.
These results are not published yet. We discussed it at length during the meeting. I can tell you that
approximately 33% of pts in Biobank study exhibited decrease in IgG and IgM.
The study discussion is ongoing, when I have more results, I could comments on that. We will discuss
the possibility of addition the IgG level measurement to FLUENT study and whether pursue it or not.
When designing a protocol for FLUENT we wanted to add a new dimension. One thing that I am
excited about is the provision to store samples for up to 15 years, so we have the ability to go back and
measure any additional biomarkers at a later date.

you see as far as patient recruitment as a barrier or as an advantage?

  • 2. Essay on Tourism Effects on Machu Picchu High in the Andean mountain range, nestled on a ridge between two mountains high above the valley floor below sits the amazing city and archaeological site of Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is about 1400 kilometers south of the Equator on the eastern slope of the Peruvian Andes. The site lies near the head waters of the Amazon River and is on the ridge between two prominent mountain peaks Machu Picchu and Hauyna Picchu about 500 meters above the valley bottom (Wright and Kenneth, 2 3). Machu Picchu, believed to be the royal estate of the Inca ruler Pachacuti, is the most well known of all the Inca archaeological sites. Professor Hiram Bingham discovered the site in July of 1911 and excavated it with the help of National Geographic and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also encourages civic involvement and pride from the people. The tourist industry helps to provide cultural exchanges between local people and tourists from around the globe. There is also the immense benefit from the encouragement of and preservation of the celebration of local festivals and cultural events that might otherwise be lost over time. The final benefit to the social aspect of Machu Picchu s community is that the tourism industry helps to facilitate the infrastructure and facilities that are used by tourism (e.g. the railway) and in doing so, it can prove to also benefit the residents as well (e.g. transportation maintenance and support). (Barcelona Field Studies Centre S.L., Machu Picchu: Impact of Tourism) Tourism also has its costs/down sides. One of the social costs to the community because of tourism is that it may attract visitors whose lifestyles and ideas may conflict with the community s (which commonly happens throughout the world, a good example of this can be seen in the settling of North America, and the effect it had on the Native Americans). Tourism could also lead to the overloading of porters which would lead to health problems. A loss of traditional values and culture is a possible outcome as well, through imitation of visitor behavior or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Theological Analysis Essay Theological Analysis In reflecting on this situation, the passages of on the characteristics of those who are shepherds and those who are not come to mind. In the Gospel of John, Jesus communicates the demands of being a shepherd of church. I am the good shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I will lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. These also I must lead, and they will hear my voice, and there will be one flock, one shepherd (John 10:14 16). This passage models the expectations for those who minister, both pastors and lay ecclesial ministers, to the faithful. We are called to lead the faithful to deeper love and knowledge of the Lord. We must be ready to forgo our preferences and desires for the needs of those we minister to. Compelled to share eternal life with all, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 7. Sweatshops In Developing Countries Todays, when the citizenship is concentrated, sweatshop is becoming a striking issue of controversies. Especially in developed countries, this problem is always boycotted, but on the other hand it is an opportunity for people in underdeveloped countries to change their lives. Although sweatshop is considered as a complex issue with underpayment and underworking environment, they are beneficial to change the old ideologies, economic growth, and fair working conditions. Firstly, women choose to work in sweatshops in developing countries because this is their only source step out of unavailable and unthinkable situation. Women in these countries tolerated outdated beliefs, such as being restricted to domestic chores and relying on their husbands. Their lives are always in a vicious circle that they want to escape but do not know the right way, so working in sweatshops provide women not only chance to create stable income, but also sense of their own independence. As the writer mentions that with the small income from garment sweatshop, women in Bangladesh can manage their finances, have their own choice in marriage and having children (Sachs, quoted in Garyfalakis, para5). Moreover, they have chance to go to school and gain their special skills. For example, earning $1 to $2 in Indonesia or Bangladesh sounds unbelievable, but it can help a woman feed her kids and restrict diarrhea disease (Kristof and Wudunn, 2000). Women in these countries also admitted that even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Historical Similarities Of Adolf Hitler And Donald Trump Many conditions point towards Adolf Hitler and Donald Trump with how they took power as political leaders. Hitler and Trump both put down people of different backgrounds based on looks, people who love different, etc. The trend that Americans are seeing today is similar to what Germany imposed on their people back in the 1930 s. The slow gradual steps of oppression and discrimination that Trump does everyday will eventually cause the downfall of America if we do not speak up and realize how wrong all of this is. To better understand what factors would cause one to imply such a claim it is important to understand Adolf Hitler s background and Donald Trump s background and the historical comparisons. IMPOSING THE ASSUMPTION OF HOW TRUMP IS SIMILAR TO HITLER Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889, in the Upper Austrian border town Braunau am Inn, located approximately 65 miles east east of Munich and nearly 30 miles north of Salzburg. In 1898, the Hitler moved with his family to Linz, the capital of Upper Austria. Hitler always has a passion for art. However, Hitler s father never approved of him pursuing art. Hitler s father wanted him to seek interest in the job of entering into the Hasburg Civil Service. • 9. Horror Film Analysis Horror Essay Horror films are movies that aim to elicit a strong physiological reaction in the viewer, such as raised heartbeat and fear. Three horror films by the names of Psycho, Scream and The Messengers will be analysed and compared to an episode of the popular children s show Shaun the Sheep. Five elements will be addressed in this analysis, those being camera techniques, Mise en scene, Editing, Lighting and Sound. In all of the previously mentioned films, there are a range of camera techniques being utilized to their advantage. In the horror film Psycho, they use extreme close ups to help show emotions or to add drama. Point of View filming is also common in all three of the films, as POV can make the viewer feel more engaged and being able to see what the victim in the film can see adds an element of fear that wouldn t be able to be achieved if everything was shot in 3rd person. For example, in Scream, it is often filmed in the Point of View of the victim who is being stalked and later killed by the antagonist and shows things such as the girls boyfriend tied to a chair or the killer running through her house. Another technique that is used in these films is Mise en scene. Mise en scene is the arrangement of everything that appears on screen, such as the actors, props and costumes. In the movie Scream, the characters wear outfits to make their roles obvious. The girl s boyfriend is wearing a highschool jersey which shows who he is quite easily and the killer is ... • 10. Eugene Onegin Essay A classic example of the principle that women mature faster than men, courtesy of an early 19th century (male) Russian author ... A tremendous explosion of emotion, of pain intermingled with joy is what transpires at the end of Onegin, since there is an acknowledgment of a frustrated yet genuine and abiding love on both characters parts. Pushkin s Eugene Onegin travels throughout the world only to discover that what is most precious in it is the modest, shy Tatiana s heart which he had arrogantly set aside years ago in order to pursue his vain and false ambitions. His final effort to woo Tatiana is no base attempt to seduce a married woman, but a cathartic, necessary atonement for his earlier haughty dismissal of her. At long, long last the young woman s heartbreaking love letter heartbreaking for her, in time for Onegin, forever for readers gets the commensurate response from its original recipient it deserves. Tatiana s rejection of his overtures has little to do with revenge, but is the ultimate validation of her character and worth. A physical relationship between the two is not just unthinkable since she is now married to a fine man, but as a result of Onegin s responsibility over what happened to her sister and ... • 11. Labors And Slavery During The Gilded Age During the Gilded Age both labors and farmers had very strong reasons to have these complaints. Labors were treated as minorities, controlled by their bosses and weren t getting paid what they deserved so this led to the unionizations, strikes and vandalisms. Farmers were in declined because bigger farms were taking over and they were getting less money. They didn t understand why this was happening if they had new machines, so this led to the Green Revolution and several political activities. However, these complaints that both labors and farmers have, have their similarities and differences. Labors did not have very good wages and it was problem during the Gilded Age. Labors had to live by paternalism, meaning that George Pullman owned them. It seems as if labors never got a profit for the long hours that they worked in the sweatshops. All the money goes straight back to Pullman, because they had to pay for rent and their goods and groceries provided by him. So basically, Pullman didn t consider them valuable because there was always someone looking for a job. These reasons led to several unionizations like the Knights of Labor where they had to pay their dues to go on strike and fight for them. Anyone from radical to bosses could join this union except bankers and lawyers, which made no sense. They fought for workplace rights but where they did wrong is when they demanded outside workplace rights such as free public schools for their children. This union caused deaths ... That was how I knew I had made the right choice when I decided to attend SUNY New Paltz. In my short time here, I have seen new places, met so many unique individuals, and I am excited to spend the next four years here. In high school, I always made an effort to get involved through clubs such as Government, Peer Leaders, Drama Club, Tri M Music Club, Concert/Jazz Band etc. and I plan to do the same here at New Paltz. Every situation and every person you come into contact with and meet has been socialized in a certain way, and the root of this behavior lies in sociology. How we react to certain social situations, how we interpret or read another person s actions, how we respond to other individuals, are all dependent on sociology. From this course, I hope to better be able to understand why people act and behave the way they do. I hope to learn more about significant social issues that are widespread throughout the world today and about social forces to help bring about change. On a deeper level, I want to understand why sociology is that window to being able to think on a different level, and the key to understanding those underlying human connections/behavior. For example, why is there a mental health stigma? Why do stereotypes exist? Where do social norms and social constructs stem from? Why does society breed the type of mentality where photoshop and runway models are the standards of beauty? All of the answers to these questions lie in sociological theories and concepts. • 15. Dostoevsky s Crime And Punishment Dostoevsky s Crime and Punishment contains an abundance of confusing scenes that are frequently left up to the interpretation of the reader. Many of these scenes are focused on Raskolnikov and the fact that he often blurs together his conscious and subconscious states. Therefore, the reader is left to contemplate the validity of certain situations. When reading a novel as hefty as Crime and Punishment it is important to pick apart some of the many subtleties in order to gain more insight to both the novel as a whole and the psyche of Raskolnikov. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the reader gets a lot of insight into Raskolnikov s thoughts through the way Dostoevsky sets up the narrative of the novel, we never imagine what it s like to actively think like Raskolnikov. Yet, still, a question remains. Why would Dostoevsky fully submerge the reader into the mind of a murderer? Dostoevsky is attempting to have the reader connect to Raskolnikov. This instance of Raskolnikov s haziness between the conscious and the subconscious is similar to having an incredibly realistic dream; you wake up feeling as though what you dreamt about actually happened to you. This act of vivid dreaming can sometimes be caused by any subconscious emotions felt leading up to the moment you fall asleep. In Raskolnikov s case, whether or not he feels any sort of genuine guilt for murdering Alyona is fairly ambiguous, but it is obvious that he is paranoid about the idea of being caught. For example, shortly before Raskolnikov s run in with the tradesman, he and Razumikhin go speak with Porfiry and Zamyotov. Throughout their meeting, Raskolnikov seems to be on edge. He even states, I m feverish again!...Did Porfiry wink at me just now, or not? Must be nonsense; why would he wink? Do they want to irritate my nerves, or are they taunting me? Either it s all a mirage, or they know!...They must have been talking about me before we came! (254 5). Raskolnikov, just like his reactions to his first two dreams ... Countries have banned advertising, posted health causes, renamed brands, and even included informational fliers in packs of cigarettes. In 2001, The Government of India decided to ban the advertising of cigarettes. This ban was created to help the youth of India and hoped to reduce the amount of future smokers. The proposal of this restriction caused debates between the government, advertising companies, and tobacco manufacturers. The supporting and dismantling arguments for these ethical and commercial causes of the ban have enabled the government to make their final decision. The Government of India has created an anti tobacco plan to tackle the growing issues of tobacco, health concerns, and rising death toll. Their first goal was to eliminate advertising as this was perceived to encourage the youth to take up the dangerous habit. This ban posed ethical and commercial challenges for both sides of the argument. The government has the power to pass laws to help prevent people from smoking and protect its people. The novel happens during a time and place that is contemporary to the publication of the book; the location is set in India up under the reign of the British Empire. The main character is a boy of Irish descent who has been an orphan that has grown up in the streets of India, that is cared for by a half caste woman, a keeper of an opium den. When he meets a wandering Tibetan lama who is out to look for a sacred river, Kim becomes his follower and moves on into a journey that covers the whole country of India. American Imperialism In The Philippines Research Paper Mikayla White 10/20/17 Period 6 American Imperialism in the Philippines Before the Spanish American war occurred, the Philippines were under the control of Spain; after, they were at the mercy of America and their decision on whether or not to annex them. Unfortunately, America decided to annex them because it would be dishonorable to give the Philippines back to Spain and it would also open up a trade route between the two nations. However, America should not have annexed the Philippines as Americans and Filipinos could have still traded if they became allies instead, and while annexing the Philippines they got rid of their culture and customs. Additionally, Americans feared that annexing the Philippines was a step towards creating an American Empire. One reason that America decided to annex the Philippines was to make sure that France or Germany couldn t trade with them. However, if America decided to create an alliance instead of the Treaty of Paris they would have still been able to trade with the Filipinos. This way the Philippines could have had a strong ally as well as a trading partner; which America could have made a good commercial profit from. Alternative 3 Home to Stay One way D.C. can enhance the performance of Rapid Re Housing programs and lower the rate of individuals/families returning back to homelessness is to emulate the model that NYC has been following for the past few years. A few years ago NYC launched the Home to Stay program (Bornstein, 2014). Home to Stay is a partnership between New York s Department of Homeless Services and four other organizations committed to fighting homelessness (Bornstein, 2014). Home to Stay uses an evidence based protocol known as Family Critical Time Intervention which is intended to motivate individuals and heads of families over nine months to take an advantage of support services, such as addiction and mental health counseling, conflict mediation, and improvement of job prospects (Bornstein, 2014). The program follows an extensive and rigorous screening procedure in order identify and select the most vulnerable and needy homeless individuals and families who must have access to the supportive services the program provides (Bornstein, 2014). Though Home to Stay does not target the homelessness population as a whole, program expansion is a future possibility. While there is no concrete data that measures the performance of Home to Stay, testimonies from individuals and families that participated in the program indicate that there is a promising future (Bornstein, 2014). With a country such as the United States continuing to expand its industry, housing, agriculture and commercial buildings there is a need for more and more energy each year. Nuclear power is one of the many ways the United States gets its energy. Nevertheless, it is one of the most controversial means of energy production. Griffin realizes that they would not ask the same questions to a white man for the fear of being rude, but when talking to a black man, they see them as subhuman (Griffin 86). The Relief Printmaking process is a printmaking process in which someone covers a block of material, such as wood, in ink. Then they proceed to deeply etch out the inked surface in the form of a design. Once that is done, they lay paper over the block with pressure so that the ink is shared generously all over the paper. When the paper is removed, the design will have been transferred and they will have the finished artwork. Using a block of wood is known as Woodcut Relief Printmaking, or Woodcuts . There are also Wood Engravings, where a stronger type of wood is used so an artist can engrave an image into the surface rather than cut it out. In my opinion, the second step of the process could be left to remain as the art itself. During my time student teaching in first grade, we used several reading concepts that included, get your mouth ready, or did it sound right, to teach students to read during guided reading lessons. However, it was difficult for these young readers to use these concepts in different lessons throughout the day. Parallel Curriculum Integration Cross Curriculum instruction becomes very important for these students. One such method is Parallel Curriculum Integration. In this type of integration, teachers from different subject areas use the same theme. In an elementary classroom, students often experience this approach at learning centers. For a theme such as patterns, each learning center has an activity that allows the students to explore patterns from the perspective of one discipline math, language, science, or ... Many people believed that the Civil War was about slavery and southern states right to defend their states rights. The confederates were fighting for their liberty and independence under the leadership of Abraham Lincoln, who they felt was a tyrant. However, the union, was fighting to preserve their territory, that was created by their founding fathers from chaos and dismemberment. President Jefferson Davis believed that the civil war was based on the confederate rights to secede from the union. Jefferson also felt that Abraham Lincoln was to blamed for the start of the civil war, since he was against slavery. Lincoln s intended goal was to preserve the union, he claimed slavery was not the reason. If I could save the union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all slaves I would do it, and if I could slave it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that (Shi Tindall, 2015, pg.465) . Lincoln told everyone that if the southern states were to return to the union that slavery would still exist. However, many people believed that Lincoln wasn t being truthful. • 45. Pressure Distribution Around Symmetrical Aerofoilc Pressure Distribution around a Symmetric Aerofoil Abstract: The following report is based on an experiment conducted to calculate the lift curve slope for a symmetrical aerofoil subjected to varying angles of attack. Pressure readings were taken at different points on the upper and lower surface of the aerofoil. The report concludes that maximum lift is generated between 12 º 15º, which is also the stall point. It also states that region close to the leading edge contributes most to the lift force. Introduction: This experiment is designed to measure the static pressure distribution around a symmetric aerofoil, find the normal force and hence to determine the lift curve slope. For zero angle of attack the pressure distribution is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the graphs above it can be seen that maximum suction for all the angles (except 4º) exists at Hole 1, which is 1.27 mm from the leading edge on the upper surface. The angle of attack at which most suction is achieved is 11º where the CP value reaches 3.0; and it increases as the angle of attack is increased or decreased from 11º. The CP values at the trailing edge vary for different angles. They all range between 0 and 0.5. It is maximum at 4º and 0º while it is minimum at 16º. For all positive angles, the lowest CP values are found around 1.27 mm from the leading edge on the upper surface while the highest CP values are found around 2.29mm from the leading edge on the lower surface of the aerofoil. Such that, the maximum differences in the CP values exists at these points, which are closest to the leading edge. The bigger the difference between CP values the greater the lift force as the suction is maximum. Therefore, it can be concluded that the region close to the leading edge of the aerofoil contributes most to the lift force. The Lift Coefficient CL is calculated using the graphs 1 6. In this report counting the squares method is used to calculate the area between the curves for pressure distribution on the upper surface and lower surface. As violence in hockey is as many fans say part of the game and what makes hockey hockey, the negative outcomes overweigh the positive. Nevertheless, it is difficult to accept that violence is incidental when NHL players who specialize in fighting, goons or enforcers, are paid a premium for this behavior even though their hockey skills are marginal and those who refuse to fight are consigned to the minor leagues as punishment. However, when looking specifically at the economic value that violence is an attribute of the product intentionally promoted by leagues and teams to increase attendance and profits. The underlying assumption is that fans have a taste for violence, and violence attracts larger crowds, larger crowds increase revenue, which, given costs, increases profits. This hypothesis is compatible with the response of successive NHL presidents when the question of violence is raised: that the league is in the entertainment business and therefore has to put on a spectacle. It is also consistent with the act of paying players a premium to fight and the statistical finding that violence and NHL attendance are positively correlated.
