Decision Analysis Task 1
JGT2 Decision Analysis
Task 1
A.) Recommendation on how to improve current workflow.
It is my recommendation that Shuzworld change their facilities layout to create a better workflow.
You can accomplish this by breaking the current structure and reorganizing the workstations to
accomplish tasks in a more time efficient manner and maximizing an employees time spent on the
product. Utilizing the Case Study we can surmise that each eight hour shift must produce forty
eight work boots. 8 hours times 60 minutes equals 480 minutes. 480 minutes (The Work Shift)
divided by 48 (the number of work boots required) equals 10. One work boot must be completed
in 10 minutes to meet production goals. Let s take a look at the steps involved ... Show more content

The company can make a determination using this information to price the sandals competitively
while providing the largest profit margin. The learning curve can be used and is based on the
assumption that as people continue to perform a task that will become more proficient at it and
will become more efficient as well. The coefficient approach of analyzing this learning curve
seemed to be the best option in this scenario. You can use a simple formula to calculate the hours
needed for each grouping my multiplying the required time of the first grouping by the coefficient
of the grouping you are trying to discover. This tool provided the most simple means to discover
the required hours of each grouping.
C. Staffing Plan Recommendations The assignment method was used in determining ways that the
schedule can be change to maximize production while reducing idle time, completion time, and
potentially labor costs. Using the information that was provided, Operator A will cost $10.00 for
the first job, $11.00 for the second, $9.00 for the third, and $10.00 for the fourth. Operator B will
cost $12.00 for the first job, $9.00 for the second job, $8.00 for the third, and $8.00 for the
fourth. Operator C similarly will cost $11.00 for the first, $11.00 for the second, $11.00 for the
third, and $9.00 for the fourth. Last, Operator D will cost $11.00 for the first, $11.00 for the
second, $9.00 for the third, and $10.00 for the fourth. While

Essay on Importance of Symbols in “the Thing in the Forest”
Brandon Doder 11/1/11 Importance of Symbols in The Thing in the Forest In many fairytales,
we are given characters who set out on an adventure to better themselves whether they know that
they are on one or not. In A.S. Byatt s The Thing in the Forest we are taken on such an adventure,
but this is more than just a children s fairytale. Through figurative language we are shown that the
main characters, Penny and Primrose, are dealing with more than just a creature in the forest, and
that with this use of symbols as a way to express a larger meaning to objects in the story, we
better understand how Penny and Primrose are dealing with being away from their family during a
time of war in England. In this story we are exposed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the use of symbols, Byatt can make reference to problems with the girls or make a
comment on the larger picture of war at the time. The three largest symbols that appear in the
story are the mansion, the forest, and of course, the thing in the forest. Each symbol represents
something bigger in the whole scheme of things. The mansion that the girls are first sent to is a
cold and dreary place to the children. Byatt describes the mansion as cold and dark. This is
because of war time in England and they are tying to not be obvious. This dreariness only helps
the symbol of the mansion to represent what is going on at that time. The house is a
representation of the State. That being the government and everything that is part of the security
it provides. There is a sense of security in a way that the mansion is used. The government
commandeered the mansion for use as a safe house, although there still is a feeling of doubt
about it. To the girls and other children, the mansion is a place of security or home until they
move on. This is most likely not what the girls had in mind when they arrived. For them to feel
any sort of comfort in this time of tragedy, they will need to stick together and make the best of the
situation. The girls seemed to be thinking the worst of every event but at the mansion, things were
taken care of to the best of the ability of the adults there to care for them. Unlike the

Biometric access control systems are so far the best type of access control we have today. The
reasoning for this is because it relies on identifying unique human characteristics such as
fingerprints, retinas, hands, etc. Since these characteristics are unique to each person like DNA,
biometric access control systems are considered far better than the other systems I have listed.
When it comes to access control of computer systems, many of the same types of control systems
mentioned above are also used along with passwords and encryption.
Uses of different systems
There are many ways to use the systems I have already mentioned. Almost all buildings use keys
to lock doors, but depending on the facility, they might also use smart card or proximity cards to
control access into different parts of the building. By doing this they can enhance security and
effectively control the access to different areas all through a computerized system. This allows
them to easily grant or deny access in a very short period of time or only allow access during
certain times of the day. Biometric access control systems can also be used in the same manner.
Being able to control access in this manner also allows for good tracking and logging of who comes
and goes.
Components of an access control system
Components of an access control system can be a door, turnstile, gate, elevator, or any other
physical barrier where granting access

Essay on The Great Debate on Global Warming
The cause of global warming has been a debate between scientists and experts for numerous years.
In fact, Svante August Arrhenius, a Swedish chemist, first predicted global warming would occur
in 1896 (Harris 16). Researchers who agree it is naturally caused insist the greenhouse effect has
many natural causes. Others agree that the cause of the Earths increase in temperature is just part of
a continuous cycle. These researchers argue that solar activity plays a huge role in the issue of
global warming. Therefore, based upon the myth of the greenhouse effect, cyclical patterns, and
research on solar activity, global warming is not a man made dilemma. When greenhouse gases trap
heat in the atmosphere, similar to the way greenhouse panes... Show more content on

The greenhouse effect will continue naturally. Methane makes up thirteen percent of greenhouse
gases (Hopwood Cohen 2). Wetlands are accountable for most of the natural methane
concentrations polluted into the air because they contain bacteria that produce this gas during
decomposition (Sources and Emissions 5). For this reason methane is often called swamp gas
(Hopwood Cohen 6). As part of their digestive process, termites release methane. Also, Oceans,
rivers, and estuaries are populated with marine plankton and fish that create methane when they
digest too(Sources and Emissions 5). Cows breathe out methane when they burp (Harris 10).
Natural hydrates, mud volcanoes, gryphons, steam vents, wildfires, wild animals and bubbling hot
springs expel methane in nature(Sources and Emissions 6). The causes of methane emissions are
limitless, but it is evident that it is not a manageable greenhouse gas. The final greenhouse gas,
nitrous oxide, is laughing gas. It is colorless, has a sweet sent, and makes up six percent of the
total greenhouse gases. Naturally, it is discharged from oceans and bacteria that populate in soils. It
can also be found in human and animal waste. Since 1750, nitrous oxide levels have been on the
rise. Although nitrous oxide does not contribute to the greenhouse gases as much as carbon dioxide
and methane do, it is important to suppress this gas because it remains in the atmosphere for a very
long time (Hopwood Cohen 7).

Mama Logan In Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry
Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry Mama Logan is known for being protective and caring
throughout the book, and she safeguards her loved ones in many instances. At the beginning of
the book, Mildred Taylor wrote in depth about the Logan family s first day of school. The school
day began with Miss Crocker, Cassie s teacher, introducing the fourth and first graders to the new
school year. She mentioned some advanced varieties to the year, as the first graders would begin
school, and the children would actually get books this year. Miss Crocker explained to the children
that the county superintendent of schools was generous enough to give them books, and they had
to promise to take good care of them. As Cassie glanced at the worn out books, she... Show more

After her lecture, Little Man eventually calmed down, until he saw the inside cover of the
book. On the inside of the book, there was a chart that described the date of issuance to each
owner, how many people in the past have used it, the condition of the book, and the race of the
user. Little Man was upset that only after the book was ll years old and in very poor condition it
would be given to a black student. Also, instead of using the words black student, the chart used
the word, Negro. Once Little Man made a huge fit, Cassie stood up for him, which lead to both
of them getting whipped. Once school ended, Cassie rushed to Mama s room in attempt to tell
Mama what happened first, but Miss Crocker arrived there first. After Miss Crocker explained
her side of the story, Mama calmly agreed, as she decided she was going to do something. On
page 29, Mildred Taylor wrote Then she opened her desk drawer and pulled out some paper, a
pair of scissors, and a small brown bottle. She glued paper on the charts inside the books, in order
to protect other students like Little Man, Protect means to keep safe from harm, and in this
situation, Mama is keeping students from the harm of the offensive words. Mama continued to stay

Full Metal Jacket And A Clockwork Orange Essay
A war film like Full Metal Jacket, does not aim to glorify war, but to show the distortion of
morality in it, the romanticizing of violence to the point of blurring the lines between profane and
holy. With the analysis of the film s plot, the ideas it chooses to enforce, the visual, and narrative
techniques he used, one gets the impression that Kubrick, focuses on the image of a man being and
becoming a killer machine. This again is a repeated trope that is a main narrative point in A
Clockwork Orange. In both stories a man is being re constructed by the establishment with the
purpose of good for the society. While a notable parallel between both films, in Full Metal Jacket
this trope is reversed. In A Clockwork Orange one man is re programmed to not be able to do
evil or harm in a society engulfed by chaos, while in Full Metal Jacket, multiple people are going
through the opposite conditioning. In the training, the future marines are programmed to aspire to
be a killing machine, to love their weapon as if it is their companion and to consider killing as a
holy act. An example of that is Sgt. Hartman s approach and degradation of religious motives.

How Does Voltage Gated Sodium Ions Move Into Sodium Channels
The way a signal starts in the motor neuron is by way of a stimulus activating sensory neurons. This
signal travels by way of the axon that contains schwann cells. The signal continues to move into the
CNS, which causes signal to be sent to interneurons. The interneurons can send the signal through
the peripheral system or to the brainvia the spinal cord.
When a skeletal muscle fires it is caused by a signal in a motor neuron. Voltage gated sodium
channels open up after a threshold stimulus of 55mV is reached. Next, Sodium ions move into the
cell membrane, thus depolarizing the cell at +30mV, which is its action potential. Sodium channels
close and Potassium channels open. Potassium moves out, which repolarizes the cell.

From both points of view this puts additional burden on the next generation who has to return this
borrowed money in the future period of time. This is against the principal of sustainable
development. So for sustained development developing today s world without compromising the
needs of the future generations government to gradually remove this subsidy to decrease allocative
and productive inefficiency. 2.Introduction
Economics is the managnment of scarce resources. We live in the world of scarcity and. Where
from basic necessity to luxury even the human being is a scarce commodity. So in order to
uncertainity use at the optimum level, we have to use the scarce resources as efficient as
possible. Crude oil is a scarce commodity in the world. Its Elasticity of demand and supply both
are less elastic.Because of demand and supply factors and also because of other intervening
variables like cartel, hoarding, supply shocks etc., day by day prices are increasing and causing
demand pull as well as cost push inflation.
In a country like Pakistan international price hike not only causes imported cost push inflation but
also demand pull inflation. Actually Compressed Natural Gas CNG and Liquified Petrolium Gas
LPG are very poor susbtitutes of petrol. So as international price increases, this leads to lacal
inflation in the economy, leading to fall in the foreign exchange reserves as foreign currency

The second coming November 5, 2015 NeXT never made profit in the computing industry
because of its high cost and small library of software. By 1996, Apple had low stock prices and a
few CEO s before Gil Amelio. Gil Amelio needed some fresh ideas for Apple and eventually
chose to buy NeXT over its rival. Amelio and Steve settled on simply calling Steve an advisor.
From that point on, Jobs would have to choose how he would distribute his time between his
family, Pixar and Apple. Steve knew exactly what he was doing. He decided it was okay to be
named an Advisor when he knew exactly that he was going to do more. However, it took the
responsibility out of being something else. Now he was his family, Pixar and Apple to

quietly began gaining his power back by installing his favorite people from NeXT into senior
Apple positions. Larry Ellison of Oracle said he was wanted to put Steve as CEO whenever he
wanted. They offered Steve the CEO position but he refused, insisting on remaining an advisor.
Jobs also managed to sign a partnership with Microsoft, which ended a decade of trial and sent
Apple s stock price rising. Once again, what a brilliant mind! Steve gained his power back

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Fpta
This chapter presents about the FPGA ideas and FPGA Synthesis Flow. An FPGA is a device that
comprises of thousands or even large number of transistors connected to implement logic functions.
They implement functions from simple addition and subtraction to complex digital filtering and
error detection and its correction.
4.1 INTRODUCTION TO FPGA
A field programmable gate array (FPGA) is a semiconductor device that can be designed by the
designer or the customer after manufacturing, hence it is known as field programmable . Field
Programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) are truly innovatory devices that combine the benefits of
both hardware and software. FPGAs are programmed with the logic circuit diagram or the
source code in Hardware Description Language (HDL) to determine how the chip will work.
They may be used to perform any logical function that an Application Specific Integrated Circuit
(ASIC) might perform but the capacity to update the functionality after shipping provides
advantages for many applications. FPGAs contain programmable logic components also called
logic blocks , and a hierarchy of reconfigurable interconnects that permit the blocks to be wired
together like a 1 chip programmable breadboard. Logic blocks can be designed to implement
complex combinational functions or simply logic gates like AND and OR. In most FPGAs, the
logic block also consists of memory elements, which can be simple flip flops or complete blocks
of memory. They perform circuits just like hardware performing huge area, power and performance
advantages over software, still can be programmed again economically ... Show more content on

The Pros And Cons Of Dispensationalism
Dispensationalism, as a system of theology, presupposes two main ideas: God works with humans
in distinct ways throughout history, and God has a distinct plan for both Israel and the church
(Ryrie, 2007). Popularized in the twentieth century by Cyrus Scofield, dispensationalism is the most
popular system of theology taught in North American evangelical churches today, however, and
despite the popularity, dispensationalismcontinues to be rejected and opposed by many scholars
and Christian denominations (Bloesch, 2000). Regardless of the opposition, the word dispensation
appears in the New Testament and is translated variably to describe stewardships (Luke 12:42;
Rom. 16:23; Gal. 4:2), administrations (Luke 16:2; Eph. 1:10; Col. 1:25) and... Show more content

Dispensationalism maintains only one method of salvation through the dispensations, however, the
dispensational idea that the content of faith changes, raises suspicions. The law was added in to
grace and could not save (Ryrie, 2007). Thus, the law marked out the character of transgressions
until Jesus Christ should come (Ryrie, 2007, p. 128). Without the law, there would no knowledge
of God s grace, and if righteousness could be gained through the law, grace would have no
purpose (Gal. 2:21). Thus, the law s purpose was to mark out grace, while grace fulfilled the law s
purpose (Rom. 10:4). Based on the characteristics of God s immutability, this author believes that
since God cannot change, neither can the content of faith, the measure of God s grace, or the
method and means of salvation. Dispensationalism does add value to Christendom; however,
dispensationalism does create confusion over how one is saved. Thus, it is this author s belief, that
with a basic understanding of God s characteristic of immutability, the church can eliminate any and
all confusion concerning salvation and how one is saved. References

The Great Law Of Motion Of History Essay
The struggle inherent in putting forward what is hailed as the great law of motion of history (The
18th Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte 14) rests in ensuring that one s purported application of that law
is consistent with its abstract detailing. For example, in Karl Marx s theoretical works and
historical writing specifically The 18th Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte the philosopher and
revolutionary consistently describes the conditions under which men must operate for them to have
a chance at restructuring their society and achieving emancipation. Marx illustrates across theory
and practice how mankind, though limited in its autonomy by the existing societal order, has an
opportunity to emancipate itself from the legal and political superstructure constructed
independently of its will when sufficiently focused, energized and united. Hence how Marx pays
enough heed to a particular, the ascent of Louis Napoleon, such that he can present it as reflective
of a greater universal principle: historical materialism. After all, we [must] not judge of such a
period of transformation by its own consciousness...this consciousness must be explained rather
from the existing conflict between the social productive forces and the relations of production.
(Marx on the History of His Opinions 5). Marx set out to detail, display and prove a universal law.
Insofar as his consideration of emancipation and the conditions necessary for it constitute that law,
he got at least two thirds of the

Paper One: People of color
Why do people think just by passing laws that the issues are resolved? Lauryn Hill is an African
American legend who was born in South Orange, New Jersey. She is famous for her wonderful
music and her marvelous poems. Ms. Hill is very multi talented, due to her singing, writing, and
guitar skills. Ms. Hill wrote one of her famous poems called Mystery of Iniquity. Her poem
Mystery of Iniquity was about her critique of the criminology of criminal justice system. The
poem Mystery of Iniquity was written May 7, 2008, and made a huge effect of African Americans.
During the 2008 era black people were moving on up toward victory because we had our first
African American president Barack Obama.
A reoccurring theme is the idea of iniquity. Iniquity is defied as a lack of fairness or justice. Rosa
park is a perfect example of the definition iniquity. Rosa is an activist who had to give up her seat
an educated black woman to a white man on a public bus. She was treated with an unfair lack of
justice. People of color have been discriminated all of their lives due to the fact that they are
born darker then others. Black people get discriminated against every day because we are always
being accused of breaking the law when in reality we really are not doing anything. People of
color have no justice when it comes to the law. Black people has been treated fairly when it comes

Language And Poverty In The United States
Poverty
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in the United States in 2006, the poverty rate for all
individuals was 12.3%. For children under the age of 18, the incidence of poverty was 17%, and
for children under the age of 5, the rate as 20.4%. Poverty do not discriminate, is continuous and it
work in patterns. Poverty is the extension to which an individual does without resources. These
resources can consist of financial, emotional, mental, spiritual, physical, support systems,
relationships, and knowledge of hidden rules .The lack of these resources affects the children

limited use of words, to a casual language (characterized by a 400 800 words vocabulary), and

the knowledge of sentence structure or adequate syntax affects the student to develop a good score

Cheer Worlds Research Paper
Cheer Worlds is the biggest competition for many cheerleaders around the world. Teams from
everywhere come to compete. There are no pompoms in sight these cheerleaders come with
high flying stunts, and insane tumbling skills. At any moment anything could go wrong. Forty
countries around the world qualify to teams at their premier national championship to compete
at worlds. The first Worlds was held in 2004. That year a level 5 team called Cheer Athletics
took home a win. Now there are different levels depending on your skills so there are many
winners from different levels. Cheer Worlds is held in Orlando, Florida. The reason for cheer
worlds being so important is it gives a chance for the cheerleaders around the world to have their
very own Olympics. It can launch a good future from some girls or boys. Girls and boys both

The National Park Service Organic Act Essay
The National Park Service Organic Act: A Contradictory Mandate
I. Introduction and BackgroundThe national parks of the United States are a part of the few
remaining regions in the country where nature is relatively untouched and natural beauty can be
observed. For over a century, national parks been popular vacation destinations for citizens and
international tourists alike. Regulation and conservation of these areas is necessary to allow for
continued visitation and enjoyment. The National Parks Service of the Department of the Interior
was created with The National Park Service Organic Act ( The Organic Act ) to maintain the nation
s parks and ensure preservation of the land while encouraging use by the general public. Whether or
not conservation and recreational use are independent of each has been argued within the
government as well as among the general public for decades. Vague language used by The Organic
Act s authors has allowed for manipulation of the phrasing of the fundamental mission statement of
the National Park Service to support or oppose a variety of decisions that will environmentally
impact the parks. Personal opinions and conflicting priorities lead to much ambiguity in the long
term implementation of the National Park Service Organic Act. In 1872, Yellowstone was
officially declared the first national park of the United States of America. In the decades that
would follow, many more areas would be set aside as national parks in order to preserve the

Analysis Of The Yoknapatawpha River In As I Lay Dying
Spring; hurricane. Much as these are both related to water, they differ greatly in their impact on
societies while one brings hope and life to weary travelers, the other brings struggle accompanied
by death. Throughout most of literary history, writers have explored this idea of poly indicative
identity, whether that be with the vast depths of water or some other symbol, and William Faulkners
novelAs I Lay Dying is no exception to this idea. From rivers to the fish that inhabit them, As I
Lay Dying is composed with a symphony of different symbols, however, one of the more
persistent ones is that of the river. By incorporating certain aspects of the Yoknapatawpha River,
Faulkner is able to allow the work to flow more smoothly, more easily incorporate ideas about the
themes of death and barriers, as well as enhance the characterization of certain figures. A symbol
is, at its base, a literary object, an object that besides holding a symbolic meaning also holds a literal
one. Although the symbolic is generally focused upon in class, the literal must not be forgotten,
for it can often be just as important the primary focus for literal objects is in terms of plot
development and flow. In the novel As I Lay Dying, the Yoknapatawpha River is used to provide
a physical barrier for the Bundren family. As the Bundrens, and some of their neighbors, are
traveling to bury Addie, they are delayed by rainfall that has made the river ... too high to get

Virus Eradicates Through Mosquitoes Essay
Virus Eradicates Through Mosquitoes
Have you ever heard of a killer mosquito? In Alicia Campbell and H. Michael Dreher s article, A
New Transcontinental Disease: The West Nile Virus, they describe the virus s origination,
transmission, symptoms, treatment, how to avoid it, and the danger. The article was published in
June of 2002 in Medsburg Nursing Journal, because the virus is growing rapidly throughout
America. The virus first hit United States in New York in 1999, infecting sixty two people. The
authors inform us that it is still a mystery how the virus came to America. One thing is for sure,
mosquitoes carry the virus, and they are responsible for the infections in humans.

In July of 1999, at the Bronx Zoo workers noticed a large number of dead crows around the zoo.
Autopsies showed brain damage and heart damage. Scientists believe that the birds received West
Nile through imported birds to the zoo. It is very common for viruses to originate in sparsely
populated forests in Africa and Amazon rain forests.
The transmission period when a bird is infected takes four to five days to see any signs of the
virus. Once the mosquito receives the virus it takes ten to fifteen days to be able to infect a human
and any other animal. After being bitten, humans see signs of the virus after five to fifteen days.
There are many symptoms, but the most common include fever, headache, body ache, rash, and
swollen lymph glands. Once one notices various symptoms they can get tested to see if they are
infected by the virus through two different types of tests. The victim may take a serum sample that
takes a few days for results. The authors tell us that the better test is through cerebrospinal fluid
which only takes five hours for results.
Once diagnosed, there isn t much treatment for the virus. Usually the victim is hospitalized. Once
hospitalized the victim receives airway management, intravenous fluids, and ventilator support.
Anti herpes virus drugs are often times used to treat the West Nile virus.

QuickBooks software can be easily learned by the beginners. The people involved in creating this
software can be contacted anytime in order to learn to operate the software.
Every time a new or unacquainted user starts using the QuickBooks, it is likely that he/she will
encounter an error. These errors are displayed with a specific code. These error codes display the
message that gives an idea to the user of what it is about. One such QuickBooks error code is
6177. It conveys that the company file will not be accessed anywhere except where it is located as
the path is unknown to the computer. This error usually occurs when the file is set to multi user
mode.
The developers have carefully studied the error and found the common cause of the same. It is
explained below:
1. Unknown path
Every time a company file is accessed, a connection is made between the path of the file with the
source or from where it is originated. On failing to recognize the path of company file,

The Corruption Of Nature Revealed In Shakespeare s Macbeth
People can disrupt nature and nature will get back at you. Macbeth is a story written by
Shakespeare about a young man who has the ambition to become king no matter the cost. Macbeth
s first step was becoming the Thane. Macbeth and his best friend Banquo went to see the three
weird sisters, witches, and they are told their prophecies. Macbeths was that he would be the Thane
and then the king. While Banquo s was that his lineage would be royalty for generations.
Macbeth told his wife who then gets the idea to go a step further and become the king and queen
of the country. They plan to invite the current king to their home and assassinate him. Once the
king came Lady Macbeth poisoned the king and made his guards drunk enough to pass out on
their own. Macbeth then killed the king with a dagger and was able to put the blame on the
deceased king s guards. Macbeth becomes the next king. He does that because by being the Thane

Types of birds convey the theme that the disruption of natural flow can cause unforeseen deaths

to eat them. While, a Falcon tends to kill smaller and larger animals in order to eat. An Owl

Story Of The Hour And The Interlopers Analysis
The Story of the Hour by Kate Chopin and The Interlopers by Saki are short stories that will
leave you on your toes till the very end. Both stories deal with death, freedom, independence, and
power. But, in those very ways they are alike, they are very different. While one is trying to be
free by letting someone go, the other is trying to be free by forgiving someone and letting
someone in a new friendship. The characters from both short stories are trying to have a new
start and let go of a life time situation. The first similarity I found in the Story of the Hour and the
Interlopers is that they both deal with a sense of death. But, the characters or on two different
ends of the spectrum of death. In the Story of the Hour it reads, She did not hear the story as
many women have heard the same, with a paralyzed inability to accept its significance. She wept
at once, with sudden, wild abandonment, in her sister s arms. . This passage is talking about the
reaction she had when she heard the news of her husband s death . The Interlopers read, The two
enemies stood glaring at one another for a long silent moment. Each had a rifle in his hand, each
had hate in his heart and murder uppermost in his mind. These two characters were enemies and
wanted to killeach other out of hate. As we can see both short stories deal with death, but on
different ends of the spectrum. The Story of the Hour is grieving the death of her husband. While
in the Interlopers they re trying to

If Offenders, Young People Are Expected Act Like A...
If offenders, young people are expected to act like a standard person of their age. In Mullin v
Richards, 1998, Teresa Mullin and Heidi Richards, who were friends, were sitting next to each
other at a desk in school. While playing fighting with plastic rules, using them as swards, Teresa
Mullin was injured by a fragment of the rule, which snapped and went in her right eye, causing
her to loose most of her eye sight. Teresa sued the school for negligence, as well as Heidy.
However, it was decided by the court that Heidy was expected, as standard, to act like a 15 years
old student, and not like a reasonable adult. Concluding with the judges deciding that Heidy was
not in breach of duty, as she had met the standards of a 15 years old... Show more content on

This causation is identified with the but for test, in other words, but for the defendant s breach of
duty would the damage or injury have occurred? the main case would be Barnett v Chelsea and
Kensington Hospital Management Committee, 1968, where the husband of the claimant went to
the hospital due to strong stomach pain and vomiting. He was sent home after the Accident and
Emergency department refused to examine him. After five hours, he died due to arsenic
poisoning. The hospital owed the man duty of care and were also in breach after refusing to
examine him. However, they were not liable as even if they had conducted the examinations the
man would have died prior the results and treatment. Meaning that he would have died if the
breach was or was not present, as their breach did not cause him to die.
Remoteness of damage consists in establishing whether the offender is liable for only the damages,
if the consequences were foreseeable from the breach of duty. In other words, the judges have to
be able to establish where and when do the consequence act start and finish, as some may be too
remote to be included as they may happen years after if not earlier, depending on the
circumstances. For example, in The Wagon Mound case, a test of reasonable foreseeability was
established. This case consisted in the offender accidently spilling oil in the claimant s wharf, while
he was fueling another ship. At the time, there were welding

The communist party, the repository of ultimate power in the Soviet Union, is not a party at all in

Example Of Crime Against Humanity
Overview of Literature Concept 1
This scholarly article explains when abuse is so severe that it surpasses mistreatment of a few
individuals it is called crime against humanity. These crimes against humanity do not happen by
chance or by impulse but are rather the result of well thought out and justified reasoning. Such
crimes are not the result of individuals but instead require large systematic compliance. Crimes
against humanity are founded on the idea that certain human begins are not equal and therefore do
not have rights or protection under the law. Unborn children do not have rights and are not
protected under the law. The most famous example of crimes against humanity is the Jewish
Holocaust that resulted in the killing of six million European Jews because of their race. Abortion
can be compared to crimes against humanity because there is no doubt that abortions are intentional
and systemic. Around 2,500 abortions occur every day in the United States. In 1973, since the
Supreme Court legalized abortion in all states, roughly 60 million unborn children have lost their
lives.
A research professor in Genocide Studies, Gregory Stanton, explains how abortion falls into the
definition of genocide. The word genocide is a combination of the Greek word geno which means
race and the Latin word cide which means killing. The definition of the word genocide is the
intentional and systematic demolition of a national, religious, cultural, ethnic, or any other group of

#3:Describe how any two types of vacuum pumps work.
Answer:
(1)The Positive Displacement Pump:
The Positive Displacement Pump exhausts a certain volume of gas successively to reduce the
pressure of a system and creates a partial vacuum. The schematic diagram is shown below. (Source:
Basic Vacuum Practice, 3rd Edition, Varian Vacuum Products.)
(2) Ion Getter Pump:
First, Gases are ionized which will be trapped to the cathode. Then the sputtered Ti atoms will cover

Net Neutrality Analysis
Before this assignment I had no idea what net neutrality was, I m embarrassed to write that
confession. Net Neutrality is the assurance that access to the Web and its content will not be
blocked, slowed down, or sped up depending on where that access is based or who owns the access
point(s) (Boswell). This to me means that the FCC (Federal Communications Commissions) want
the internetto be open to all traffic, or online customers. They don t want companies to be able to
block or charge premium rates for the use of service. This allows all data to be equal and everyone
is on the same fast lane of the road, sort of speck.
The problem with this is that there are companies out that like Netflix s, Verizon and Comcast just

Levee Case Study New Orleans
Define and analyze the problem
New Orleans was built on a risky location. According to Lalwani, Khagram, Evans, Jackson, and
Lindenber (2007, p1), New Orleans was built on a natural levee adjacent to the massive
Mississippi river that was not embayed and therefore not protected from flooding. When French
colonizer, Jean Baptiste La Moyne, Sieur de Bienville, founded New Orleans in 1718, it was
considered a strategically significant port of trade between North America and the rest of the world
due to the Mississippi River and its vast network of tributaries (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p1). On the
other hand, the city s first chief engineer, Del la Tour, and geologists Kolb and Van Loplin found
the site unsuitable for a city because the threat of flooding (Lalwani, et al., ... Show more content on

They believed that the creation of more levees would force the Mississippi into a single channel
resulting in the river forming a deeper channel (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p4). Forshey surveyed the
levee system, found there to be more than 847 miles of levees along the Mississippi, and
suggested the creation of 159 more miles of levees to fill in gaps between the existing levees
(Lalwani, et al., 2007, p4). The basis of the exclusive creation of levees proposal is the river
naturally forming a deeper channel as a result of the levees. On the contrary, Captain Andrew A.
Humphreys and the U.S. Corps of Topographical Engineers refuted the assertion that the levee
system allowed the river to deepen its channel. He said that hard clay prevented the current from
scouring the river bed, and eventually levees would result in raising the river. However, he also
admitted that by careful management, levees could be built to withstand flooding from the river,
(Lalwani, et al., 2007, p4). Levee exclusive approach could work but there are many concerned

Albert Bandura Theory
As the pioneering social learning theorist in the 1960s, Albert Bandura refuted the common belief
that studying thoughts and emotions was unscientific. He was adamant that although one could not
see these internal processes, they were still important to study. He has proven that to understand
children, we must first understand their cognitive processes and the ways in which they think and
reason. In my opinion, one of Bandura s most underrated theories is his study of the effects that
exposure to violencehas on children. I believe that it has shaped the way many of us think about
what children are witnessing, and is vital in this time where most children have constant access to
technology.
Bandura extensively studied modeling; he believed that children learn by watching. This applies
to a variety of circumstances. For example, children learn how to behave in a social setting by
watching the interactions of their peers. Children also learn through symbolic models, like stories
and television. He also proposed the idea of no model learning; a child can watch someone else do
something and replicate it perfectly on their first try, without ever having been formally taught. In
what seems to me like a natural progression of thought, Bandura next wondered that if children
absorb what they are seeing effortlessly, how are they be affected by seeing negative things, such
as violence or rough behavior?
In Theories of Development, William Crain (2005) describes a study Bandura conducted in
1965. Four year olds were individually shown a movie with one of three endings. In all three,
the model beat up a Bobo doll. In the first, the model was praised and rewarded for doing this. In
the second, the model was reprimanded and punished for his actions. And in the third, the model
was neither rewarded nor punished. The children were put in a room with a Bobo doll. Those
who had seen the first and third versions of the movie imitated the model many more instances
that those who had seen the second version. This indicates that while seeing a model punished
will make an activity less desirable, and seeing a model rewarded will made it more desirable,
seeing the model neither punished nor rewarded will make the activity just as

In Cold Blood Rhetorical Devices
Truman Capote s In Cold Blood is a masterfully crafted book, often acclaimed for it s unique
style. Accordingly, readers mustn t look very far before they find a plethora of rhetoric. Capote
is often credited with having created the original crime novel, and he didn t get this distinction by
writing like everyone else. He used his interesting writing style to make his readers feel as though
they were actually in the book, but not just as an onlooker. He allowed them to get inside the
character s heads and really know them, glimpsing flash backs into the character s pasts, while also
foreshadowing events to come. He wrote with a very intricate style, but also one that ended up
being incredibly effective.
Capote was truly an artist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Often this foreshadowing was very subtle and easily overlooked if the reader wasn t careful. For
example, at the very bottom of page 108 and onto the top of page 109, Capote shares one of Dick
s thoughts regarding Perry s anger in which he says, The time had been when Dick had thought
he could control, could regulate the temperature of these sudden cold fevers that burned and
chilled his friend. He had been mistaken, and in the aftermath of that discovery, had grown very
unsure of Perry... At first glance this quote seems foreboding, but unless the reader has finished
the book, they may not notice the foreshadowing. At the end of the book it is reveled that Perry
single handedly killed the entire Clutter family, which is most likely the time when Dick made
the discovery that there might be something wrong with Perry. Capote hid his foreshadowing
very well, so that it is often only found once the event it foreshadowed had passed. However, this
isn t to say that it was ineffective. His foreshadowing served it s exact purpose, as readers who
would notice the subtle hints would be drawn in, curious to see what they were

Racism In Teens
The Power and Light District (PLD) of downtown Kansas City is the city s major entertainment
center. The growth of PLD and the four other entertainment districts (Zona Rosa, Country Club
Plaza, Westport, 18th and Vine Jazz District) resulted in greater choices for the community (AP,

youths flocking to entertainment districts have been a problem for years in Kansas City. In the past,
the prime destination was the Westport area near the Plaza, where the under 18 crowd sometimes
topped 1,000. Law enforcement reported seeing children as young as 7 walking through the area
well after midnight (AP, 2011). These youthwere primarily Black which resulted in accusations of
racism; however, the merchants responded by stating that race was not the issue, but these unruly
youth were keeping paying customers away.
There were recent numerous complaints in these areas of youth harassing and intimidating patrons

Stockholm Syndrome In Beauty And The Beast
Both the protagonists in the Beauty in the Beast trope display the characteristics of Stockholm

psychological syndrome in which a person being held captive begins to identify with and grow
sympathetic to his or her captor (Stockholm Syndrome 1). There are three main psychological

The first characteristic of Stockholm syndrome is the hostage develops positive feelings towards
their captor and sympathizes with them. In The Toad (1869) by François Marie Luzel the
beauty displays the first characteristic of Stockholm syndrome and ends up developing feelings
for the beast, which is a toad in this version. The toad forces the father to give him one of his
daughter so the youngest daughter becomes his hostage and succumbs to the disgusting toad s
wishes and marries him. An example of the female lead displaying her positive feelings for the
toad is when the toad leaves her and she continues pursuing him despite the toad becoming abusive
and punching her in the face (Luzel 228). Namyak et al. a group of researchers from the
Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in London state this bond develops as part of
the victim s defense mechanism to allow them to sympathize with their captor, leading to an
acceptance of the situation, limiting defiance⁄aggression toward the captor and thus

Jonathan Larson s Life Of Poverty
Jonathan Larson
Jonathan Larson lived a short life in poverty. He was born in New York 1960 and died 1996.
During his short 36 year life he is credited for a few plays and received many awards as either a
playwright or a composer including Tick, Tick Boom and the opera La Boheme inspired, Rent.
After graduating from White Plains High School he was awarded a four year scholarship to
Adelphi University on long Island for acting. During his college days he explored his creativity
through playwriting. He wrote and performed school cabarets and worked on small productions.
Jonathan Larson had a knack for reinventing theater in 1988 he was awarded with the Richard

Charles Darwin s Chapter Summary
In this chapter, Darwin believed that variation is mostly due to reproduction and not
environmental aspects and use of habits, like most scientists recognized. Meanwhile, he states that
the extensive use of certain organs has made special body parts come to be. He supports his point
by comparing the legs of a ducks that walks and the wings of a duck that fly. In reproduction,

Money Can Buy Happiness
Can money buy you happiness? It is a classical debate, sparked by the left wing communists and
religious leaders who suggest that a person can live a full life without the pursuit of money, and
instead one must look to a more spiritual existence above the material desires. It is perhaps
conceivable in a century gone by where people grew all their food and believed in witches, that a
human could forge a fulfilling existence without the needof money to satisfy our desires. However
in today s society money can not only buy happiness, but is a major factor for happiness. Findings
by the Institute of Economic Affairs show that happiness levels correlate with the amount of wealth
a person accumulates. And, in contrast to popular belief, it does... Show more content on

Stress can affect both your body and your mind, people can become exhausted, sick and unable
to focus. It is the complete reverse of happiness. For someone who is better off financially bills
occupy much less of their time and thus stress is eliminated from their lives. Home life can be
miserable and tense when money is scarce. Couples bicker on average 2,455 times a year and of
that number issues of money equate to 315 arguments. Money buys security and an un troubled
existence, money relieves financial stress and thus helps increase happiness.
If someone was to offer you a million dollars, no strings attached, would you accept it? Chances
are you would, and you would be happy about it because money can buy happiness. In life we have
the option to live how we want, no one forces us to live a consumerist lifestyle. We choose to. You
know there must be a connection to money and happiness. If there weren t, no one would work
for that lucrative promotion, perhaps no one work at all. Why would we spend all our lives
pursuing it? For those living in third world countries that may be happy, it is unfortunately
because it s a case of they can t miss what they ve never had. Our society has made money a factor
of happiness and I don t hear anyone complaining. If money can t buy you happiness then you are
not spending it

Girls of Slender Means
Joanna #8217;s and Jane #8217;s lifestyles. The Girls of Slender Means by Murial Spark is a
novel about the girls who lived in the May of Teck Club during the year of 1945. There are many
characters involved, but the one #8217;s who caught my attention the most are Jane Wright and
Joanna Childe. They represent different aspects of ideas, lifestyles and, also, have different
perspectives on the #8220;World of Books. #8221;Joanna Childe was the daughter of a country
rector. She was very intelligent, had #8220;...strong obscure emotions #8221; (8), and
#8220;...religious strength #8221; (165). She was very well build. #8220;Joanna Childe was

From how Joanna was described in the novel, we can see that she liked the past more than the
present. She wanted to preserve the old traditions she grew up with. The example of that would be
her love life. When she fallen in love with the first curate, he didn #8217;t return her feeling and
she #8220;...had decided that this was to be the only love of her life #8221; (22). She didn
#8217;t return the feelings of the second curate, who loved her, because she had #8220;...the
notion that a nice girl should only fall in love once in her life #8221; (23). Another example
would be her ideas about the Prayer Book. Nancy Riddle, one of Joanna #8217;s students,
mentioned that the Prayer Book was #8220;...out of date #8221; (99) to which Joanna answered:
#8220;The Prayer Book is wonderful. There was a new version got up in 1928, but Parliament
put it out. Just as well, as it happened #8221; (101). It is obvious that she wanted to leave
everything just as it was before. Probably that is the reason why Joanna died at the end of the
book. After the bomb exploded, the fireworkers were trying to rescue girls, who were trapped in
the club from the window at the roof. Joanna was the last to climb, but she #8220;...stooped to pick
up the tape measure which was lying on the floor #8221; (100). Unfortunately, #8220;the house
sank into its centre, a high heap of rubble, and Joanna went with it #8221; (161). I think

Taking a Look at the Sports Industry
1.Sports is a very important part of the United States. When there is a plan to expand the US
franchises in foreign countries the most important factor will be the local culture. The success of
the market share capture can only be done when a company has understood the cultural differences
that exist in other geographies. The cultural differences can be pertain to the social structures ,their
manners and the rituals and values. There are also differences in attitudes, languages and
communication patterns.
As the US franchises pitch for foreign lands, the structure of the organization should also change
(Shropshire et al., 1995).The search for global talent must go on and they have to make the sport
well known to seek new athletes and talented sportspersons. During their advance to other
economies, they should be open to their culture and custom along with their beliefs. They should be
in a position obey the rules and also design their gear for the various sports, with a respect the
sportmanship.
The risk of these franchises from failing in foreign culture can be decreased with the help of
effective market research. This data mining will equip them with an understanding of the facts and
about the country s mentality towards sports. Thus they will also gain valuable information and this
will help them to design their innovative propositions.
2.The globalization forces should be dealt through various means when the sports frachinses goes

Analysis Of Walden By Henry David Thoreau
Walden, a series of 18 essays by Henry David Thoreau published in 1854, is a record of Thoreau s
experiment in simple living on the northern shore of Walden Pond, Massachusetts. Industrial
progress is a theme that Thoreau experiences while at Walden Pond. Even though Thoreau makes
some elaborate claims as to why industrial progress is destructive, the exact opposite is true; as
such advancement does much to benefit the relationships, economy and safety of any society.
Thoreau s overall philosophy condemns industrial progress. Thoreau believed that simplicity is
good for the soul and material possessions and money can become one s god. (www.walden.org)

Thoreau is buried near the graves of his friends Hawthorne, Alcott, Emerson and Channing. Ralph
Waldo Emerson wrote in his eulogy; The country knows not yet, or in the least part, how great a
son it has lost...His soul was made for the noblest society; he had in a short life exhausted the
capabilities of this world; wherever there is knowledge, wherever there is virtue, wherever there
is beauty, he will find a home. (Library of Harvard University) Thoreau, fascinated by technology,
saw a series of inventions that would radically change the world. In the mid nineteenth century he
saw the invention of the power loom, railroad and the telegraph, the industrial revolution. In
Thoreau s view, technology provoked an excitement that was counterproductive because it served
as a distraction from the important questions of life. Perhaps we are led oftener by the love of
novelty, and a regard for the opinions of men, in procuring it, than by a true utility. (Walden, 21).
Our inventions are wont to be pretty toys, which distracted our attention from serious things. They
are but improved means to an unimproved end, an end which it was already but too easy to arrive
at; as railroads lead to Boston or New York. We are in great haste to construct a magnetic telegraph
from Maine to Texas; but Maine and Texas; it may be, have nothing important to communicate.

Companies should keep in mind that after the merge there will be some synergy between
companies and there will be growth for the after the merger because of the companies will
continue to work. Also the market power will increase and the big company after the merger will
have easy access to resources. There are also some cross border advantages for mergers too.
The market imprefections will be exploited, government adverse policies will be adverted, there
will be technology transfer and product differentiation. Finally, both of the companies clients will
follow the merger and will start to work the company after the merger. There will also be some
bad side of merger too. Diversification can be huge problem for the companies as in today s world
highly diversed companies become more successful. If there is conflict of interest between the

bootstrapping problems which can make a suspicion during the merger.

Polonius Literary Devices
In Act I Scene III of Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Polonius, the father of Laertes and Ophelia,
enters as Laertes is saying his goodbye to Ophelia. Polonius talks to each of the two characters
directly at different points in this scene; however, the conversations are both meant to be a helpful
warning and lesson to each of the characters. The main point, or crux, of the conversation between
Poloniusand Laertes was a series of small, fatherly tips and lessons to Laertes before he goes off
on his trip to Paris. The main point of the conversation between Polonius and Ophelia was a
warning that Ophelia shouldn t get mixed up with Hamletromantically because Hamlet wouldn t
truly love her. A literary device that Shakespeare employs within the conversation between
Polonius and Laertes would be the use of sentence structure. During the lecture to Laertes,
Shakespeare ends every piece of advice with a period, ultimately separating the different parts of
his lesson. This structure creates a kind of list that the audience is able to put together although it
is not specifically separated. This serves to prove the point that Laertes has a lot left to learn but
not enough time so Shakespeare sends Polonius to teach these important lessons quickly before

The use of symbolism can be seen when Polonius says to Ophelia, You speak like a green girl...

is often used to symbolize immaturity and growth. This is held true by the next line used to
describe Ophelia saying, Unsifted in such perilous circumstance. (Shakespeare 1.3.111). This
proves that Ophelia is immature and unsure of what she s doing. This proves Polonius s point that,
Ophelia still has a lot to learn and grow before she can truly know what s right for

Chronic Kidney Failure Of The United State
The most common cause of kidney failure in the United State is Diabetes. According to the U.S.
renal data system the top five causes of renal failure are diabetes, hypertension, glomerulonephritis,

Pogroms Of 1881 Analysis
For many years, it was widely accepted that the Russian pogroms of 1881 were organized attacks
towards the Jews spearheaded by the Russian government. This conspiracy theory was created by
historians of the time. Historians living during the time of these disastrous heinous pogroms
looked for an instigating hand behind the pogroms. In May of 1881, L. Schloss in a meeting of
the Anglo Jewish association stated it was impossible that outrages could take place, and last in
some instances more than 24 hours, in a country which bristled so with police and soldiery as Russia
, without the authorities winked at them for their own purposes (Klier 384). The Levin
Memorandum in 1882 summed up the conspiracy theory. Levin said what the contemporary... Show

Klier supports the theory that the 1881 pogroms were an ethnic riot. He writes, ethnic identity
creates boundaries and divisions between us and the other (p. 79). In Eastern Europe, Jews were not
only different based on their religion, they were different in their entirety. They wore different
clothes, had different occupations, lived in different areas, spoke different languages, and
followed different holidays. In the years prior to the pogroms, there was a true dislike of the
Jews by the government and the people. The Jews were treated as a separate class, a different
people. Klier discusses the anti jewish policies of Tsar Nicholas I and then the liberalization of
some of these policies under Tsar Alexander II. The new policies by Tsar Alexander II actually
led to increased debate over the Jewish question and increased Judeophobia. By 1881, the
differences between the Jews and non Jews were accentuated not only by government legislation,
but also by economics as some Jews were starting to flouish, rumors, and newspapers. The ultimate
transgression that led to the pogroms was the rumor that it was the Jews that murdered the Tsar! In
the first pogrom of 1881 in Elisavetgrad, the incident that triggered the start of the pogrom was a
brawl in a tavern that started the shouts, The Jews are beating our people! The

Examples Of Feminism In The Scarlet Letter
In American Literature, a common theme has been the feminist literary theory. Feminism is the
belief that women and men should be equal without apology. This is easily related to the novel, The

wasn t married to. For her punishment she had to wear a scarlet A to mark her shame. The secret
father of her child, Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale, is filled with guilt and her husband, Roger

Introduction
Much can be said about animal welfare, many aspects are relatively new. New topics and avenues
of potential research are constantly surfacing. For starters, one idea I m going to attempt to tackle
is an ethical one. Subjective at best in my opinion, it usually doesn t warrant serious scientific
research. The topics I m suggesting are organic welfare and relative welfare. I m talking about the
range of emotions animals have and how they can be interpreted to best adapt an animal s
environment to maximize their welfare. Several institutions would ... Show more content on

A consumer could be more inclined to purchase/use a product if they can believe that their
product lived a full and happy life. The same criteria can be said for a prospective pet, an owner
would want an all around healthy companion that can display a full range of emotion during the
course of its life. Welfare can certainly be relative when you take into account the definition in
context. I m going to pose an argument that for instance an organically raised, grass fed cow can
claim a higher quality welfare than a stock cow; one that has been raised in a warehouse, outside
of a natural frame of reference (conditions the animal could exist in with minimal human
intervention). I ll even go so far as to say the physical presence of the sun may be a vital
component in welfare. It has been documented that lack of sun exposure can lead to vitamin D,
and calcium deficiency, various diseases because of that and even depression.[5] The definition
of welfare can be measured by the accumulation of positive and negative experiences. Objectively
weighing the satisfaction of every need (and possibly want) of the animal in question versus;
illnesses, pain, abnormal behavior, and chronic stress, etc. Through these objective measures, an
animal s level of wellbeing can be properly gauged. [3] This makes it fairly easy to measure welfare
since each of these events or categories probably has

Kyrgyzstan declared independence on the last day of August 1991. Kyrgyzstan joined 10 other
Soviet states by Commonwealth on 21 December of the same year. This co independence lasted
only four days. On 25 December 1991, Kyrgyzstan achieved sole independence. The President did
this after the ending of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic (Encyclopedia of World Cultures).
The President of the United States at the time, George H. Bush addressed the nation. The President
announced his decision to recognize Kyrgyzstan as an Independent Democratic Peoples Republic.
He did this in an address to the nation about the ending of the Soviet Union (U.S. Recognition of
Kyrgyzstan, 1991). In April 1992, the President officially opened relationships with Kyrgyzstan. He
produced the Presidential Determination Memorandum on Trade with Armenia, Belarus,
Kyrgyzstan, and Russia (Presidential Determination No. 92 20).
Kyrgyzstan needed to reach into the past in order to create distance from the Soviet Union.
After Kyrgyzstan claimed independence it reinvented it s self in the form of the country s new

brave history based on the 40 tribes of the nomadic period. The base color of red was established

  • 2. Decision Analysis Task 1 JGT2 Decision Analysis Task 1 A.) Recommendation on how to improve current workflow. It is my recommendation that Shuzworld change their facilities layout to create a better workflow. You can accomplish this by breaking the current structure and reorganizing the workstations to accomplish tasks in a more time efficient manner and maximizing an employees time spent on the product. Utilizing the Case Study we can surmise that each eight hour shift must produce forty eight work boots. 8 hours times 60 minutes equals 480 minutes. 480 minutes (The Work Shift) divided by 48 (the number of work boots required) equals 10. One work boot must be completed in 10 minutes to meet production goals. Let s take a look at the steps involved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The learning curve can be used and is based on the assumption that as people continue to perform a task that will become more proficient at it and will become more efficient as well. The coefficient approach of analyzing this learning curve seemed to be the best option in this scenario. You can use a simple formula to calculate the hours needed for each grouping my multiplying the required time of the first grouping by the coefficient of the grouping you are trying to discover. This tool provided the most simple means to discover the required hours of each grouping. C. • 3. Essay on Importance of Symbols in “the Thing in the Forest” Brandon Doder 11/1/11 Importance of Symbols in The Thing in the Forest In many fairytales, we are given characters who set out on an adventure to better themselves whether they know that they are on one or not. In A.S. Byatt s The Thing in the Forest we are taken on such an adventure, but this is more than just a children s fairytale. Through figurative language we are shown that the main characters, Penny and Primrose, are dealing with more than just a creature in the forest, and that with this use of symbols as a way to express a larger meaning to objects in the story, we better understand how Penny and Primrose are dealing with being away from their family during a time of war in England. In this story we are exposed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the use of symbols, Byatt can make reference to problems with the girls or make a comment on the larger picture of war at the time. The three largest symbols that appear in the story are the mansion, the forest, and of course, the thing in the forest. Each symbol represents something bigger in the whole scheme of things. The mansion that the girls are first sent to is a cold and dreary place to the children. Byatt describes the mansion as cold and dark. This is because of war time in England and they are tying to not be obvious. This dreariness only helps the symbol of the mansion to represent what is going on at that time. The house is a representation of the State. That being the government and everything that is part of the security it provides. There is a sense of security in a way that the mansion is used. The government commandeered the mansion for use as a safe house, although there still is a feeling of doubt about it. To the girls and other children, the mansion is a place of security or home until they move on. This is most likely not what the girls had in mind when they arrived. For them to feel any sort of comfort in this time of tragedy, they will need to stick together and make the best of the situation. The girls seemed to be thinking the worst of every event but at the mansion, things were taken care of to the best of the ability of the adults there to care for them. Unlike the ... Introduction Going back hundreds of years, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Biometric access control systems are so far the best type of access control we have today. The reasoning for this is because it relies on identifying unique human characteristics such as fingerprints, retinas, hands, etc. Since these characteristics are unique to each person like DNA, biometric access control systems are considered far better than the other systems I have listed. When it comes to access control of computer systems, many of the same types of control systems mentioned above are also used along with passwords and encryption. Uses of different systems There are many ways to use the systems I have already mentioned. Almost all buildings use keys to lock doors, but depending on the facility, they might also use smart card or proximity cards to control access into different parts of the building. By doing this they can enhance security and effectively control the access to different areas all through a computerized system. This allows them to easily grant or deny access in a very short period of time or only allow access during certain times of the day. Biometric access control systems can also be used in the same manner. Being able to control access in this manner also allows for good tracking and logging of who comes and goes. Components of an access control system Components of an access control system can be a door, turnstile, gate, elevator, or any other physical barrier where granting access ... • 5. Essay on The Great Debate on Global Warming The cause of global warming has been a debate between scientists and experts for numerous years. In fact, Svante August Arrhenius, a Swedish chemist, first predicted global warming would occur in 1896 (Harris 16). Researchers who agree it is naturally caused insist the greenhouse effect has many natural causes. Others agree that the cause of the Earths increase in temperature is just part of a continuous cycle. These researchers argue that solar activity plays a huge role in the issue of global warming. Therefore, based upon the myth of the greenhouse effect, cyclical patterns, and research on solar activity, global warming is not a man made dilemma. When greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere, similar to the way greenhouse panes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The greenhouse effect will continue naturally. Methane makes up thirteen percent of greenhouse gases (Hopwood Cohen 2). Wetlands are accountable for most of the natural methane concentrations polluted into the air because they contain bacteria that produce this gas during decomposition (Sources and Emissions 5). For this reason methane is often called swamp gas (Hopwood Cohen 6). As part of their digestive process, termites release methane. Also, Oceans, rivers, and estuaries are populated with marine plankton and fish that create methane when they digest too(Sources and Emissions 5). Cows breathe out methane when they burp (Harris 10). Natural hydrates, mud volcanoes, gryphons, steam vents, wildfires, wild animals and bubbling hot springs expel methane in nature(Sources and Emissions 6). The causes of methane emissions are limitless, but it is evident that it is not a manageable greenhouse gas. The final greenhouse gas, nitrous oxide, is laughing gas. It is colorless, has a sweet sent, and makes up six percent of the total greenhouse gases. Naturally, it is discharged from oceans and bacteria that populate in soils. It can also be found in human and animal waste. Since 1750, nitrous oxide levels have been on the rise. Although nitrous oxide does not contribute to the greenhouse gases as much as carbon dioxide and methane do, it is important to suppress this gas because it remains in the atmosphere for a very long time (Hopwood Cohen 7). ... • 6. Mama Logan In Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry Roll Of Thunder, Hear My Cry Mama Logan is known for being protective and caring throughout the book, and she safeguards her loved ones in many instances. At the beginning of the book, Mildred Taylor wrote in depth about the Logan family s first day of school. The school day began with Miss Crocker, Cassie s teacher, introducing the fourth and first graders to the new school year. She mentioned some advanced varieties to the year, as the first graders would begin school, and the children would actually get books this year. Miss Crocker explained to the children that the county superintendent of schools was generous enough to give them books, and they had to promise to take good care of them. As Cassie glanced at the worn out books, she... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After her lecture, Little Man eventually calmed down, until he saw the inside cover of the book. On the inside of the book, there was a chart that described the date of issuance to each owner, how many people in the past have used it, the condition of the book, and the race of the user. Little Man was upset that only after the book was ll years old and in very poor condition it would be given to a black student. • 7. Full Metal Jacket And A Clockwork Orange Essay A war film like Full Metal Jacket, does not aim to glorify war, but to show the distortion of morality in it, the romanticizing of violence to the point of blurring the lines between profane and holy. With the analysis of the film s plot, the ideas it chooses to enforce, the visual, and narrative techniques he used, one gets the impression that Kubrick, focuses on the image of a man being and becoming a killer machine. This again is a repeated trope that is a main narrative point in A Clockwork Orange. In both stories a man is being re constructed by the establishment with the purpose of good for the society. While a notable parallel between both films, in Full Metal Jacket this trope is reversed. In A Clockwork Orange one man is re programmed to not be able to do evil or harm in a society engulfed by chaos, while in Full Metal Jacket, multiple people are going through the opposite conditioning. In the training, the future marines are programmed to aspire to be a killing machine, to love their weapon as if it is their companion and to consider killing as a holy act. An example of that is Sgt. Hartman s approach and degradation of religious motives. Lines like God... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 8. How Does Voltage Gated Sodium Ions Move Into Sodium Channels The way a signal starts in the motor neuron is by way of a stimulus activating sensory neurons. This signal travels by way of the axon that contains schwann cells. The signal continues to move into the CNS, which causes signal to be sent to interneurons. The interneurons can send the signal through the peripheral system or to the brainvia the spinal cord. When a skeletal muscle fires it is caused by a signal in a motor neuron. Voltage gated sodium channels open up after a threshold stimulus of 55mV is reached. Next, Sodium ions move into the cell membrane, thus depolarizing the cell at +30mV, which is its action potential. An FPGA is a device that comprises of thousands or even large number of transistors connected to implement logic functions. They implement functions from simple addition and subtraction to complex digital filtering and error detection and its correction. 4.1 INTRODUCTION TO FPGA A field programmable gate array (FPGA) is a semiconductor device that can be designed by the designer or the customer after manufacturing, hence it is known as field programmable . Field Programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) are truly innovatory devices that combine the benefits of both hardware and software. FPGAs are programmed with the logic circuit diagram or the source code in Hardware Description Language (HDL) to determine how the chip will work. They may be used to perform any logical function that an Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) might perform but the capacity to update the functionality after shipping provides advantages for many applications. FPGAs contain programmable logic components also called logic blocks , and a hierarchy of reconfigurable interconnects that permit the blocks to be wired together like a 1 chip programmable breadboard. Logic blocks can be designed to implement complex combinational functions or simply logic gates like AND and OR. In most FPGAs, the logic block also consists of memory elements, which can be simple flip flops or complete blocks of memory. They perform circuits just like hardware performing huge area, power and performance advantages over software, still can be programmed again economically ... • 12. The Pros And Cons Of Dispensationalism Dispensationalism, as a system of theology, presupposes two main ideas: God works with humans in distinct ways throughout history, and God has a distinct plan for both Israel and the church (Ryrie, 2007). Popularized in the twentieth century by Cyrus Scofield, dispensationalism is the most popular system of theology taught in North American evangelical churches today, however, and despite the popularity, dispensationalismcontinues to be rejected and opposed by many scholars and Christian denominations (Bloesch, 2000). Regardless of the opposition, the word dispensation appears in the New Testament and is translated variably to describe stewardships (Luke 12:42; Rom. 16:23; Gal. 4:2), administrations (Luke 16:2; Eph. 1:10; Col. 1:25) and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dispensationalism maintains only one method of salvation through the dispensations, however, the dispensational idea that the content of faith changes, raises suspicions. The law was added in to grace and could not save (Ryrie, 2007). Thus, the law marked out the character of transgressions until Jesus Christ should come (Ryrie, 2007, p. 128). Without the law, there would no knowledge of God s grace, and if righteousness could be gained through the law, grace would have no purpose (Gal. 2:21). Thus, the law s purpose was to mark out grace, while grace fulfilled the law s purpose (Rom. 10:4). Based on the characteristics of God s immutability, this author believes that since God cannot change, neither can the content of faith, the measure of God s grace, or the method and means of salvation. Dispensationalism does add value to Christendom; however, dispensationalism does create confusion over how one is saved. Thus, it is this author s belief, that with a basic understanding of God s characteristic of immutability, the church can eliminate any and all confusion concerning salvation and how one is saved. • 13. The Great Law Of Motion Of History Essay The struggle inherent in putting forward what is hailed as the great law of motion of history (The 18th Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte 14) rests in ensuring that one s purported application of that law is consistent with its abstract detailing. For example, in Karl Marx s theoretical works and historical writing specifically The 18th Brumaire of Louis Bonaparte the philosopher and revolutionary consistently describes the conditions under which men must operate for them to have a chance at restructuring their society and achieving emancipation. Marx illustrates across theory and practice how mankind, though limited in its autonomy by the existing societal order, has an opportunity to emancipate itself from the legal and political superstructure constructed independently of its will when sufficiently focused, energized and united. Hence how Marx pays enough heed to a particular, the ascent of Louis Napoleon, such that he can present it as reflective of a greater universal principle: historical materialism. After all, we [must] not judge of such a period of transformation by its own consciousness...this consciousness must be explained rather from the existing conflict between the social productive forces and the relations of production. (Marx on the History of His Opinions 5). Marx set out to detail, display and prove a universal law. Regulation and conservation of these areas is necessary to allow for continued visitation and enjoyment. Much as these are both related to water, they differ greatly in their impact on societies while one brings hope and life to weary travelers, the other brings struggle accompanied by death. Throughout most of literary history, writers have explored this idea of poly indicative identity, whether that be with the vast depths of water or some other symbol, and William Faulkners novelAs I Lay Dying is no exception to this idea. From rivers to the fish that inhabit them, As I Lay Dying is composed with a symphony of different symbols, however, one of the more persistent ones is that of the river. By incorporating certain aspects of the Yoknapatawpha River, Faulkner is able to allow the work to flow more smoothly, more easily incorporate ideas about the themes of death and barriers, as well as enhance the characterization of certain figures. A symbol is, at its base, a literary object, an object that besides holding a symbolic meaning also holds a literal one. Although the symbolic is generally focused upon in class, the literal must not be forgotten, for it can often be just as important the primary focus for literal objects is in terms of plot development and flow. Example Of Crime Against Humanity Overview of Literature Concept 1 This scholarly article explains when abuse is so severe that it surpasses mistreatment of a few individuals it is called crime against humanity. These crimes against humanity do not happen by chance or by impulse but are rather the result of well thought out and justified reasoning. Such crimes are not the result of individuals but instead require large systematic compliance. Crimes against humanity are founded on the idea that certain human begins are not equal and therefore do not have rights or protection under the law. Unborn children do not have rights and are not protected under the law. The most famous example of crimes against humanity is the Jewish Holocaust that resulted in the killing of six million European Jews because of their race. Abortion can be compared to crimes against humanity because there is no doubt that abortions are intentional and systemic. Around 2,500 abortions occur every day in the United States. In 1973, since the Supreme Court legalized abortion in all states, roughly 60 million unborn children have lost their lives. A research professor in Genocide Studies, Gregory Stanton, explains how abortion falls into the definition of genocide. • 28. Net Neutrality Analysis Before this assignment I had no idea what net neutrality was, I m embarrassed to write that confession. Net Neutrality is the assurance that access to the Web and its content will not be blocked, slowed down, or sped up depending on where that access is based or who owns the access point(s) (Boswell). This to me means that the FCC (Federal Communications Commissions) want the internetto be open to all traffic, or online customers. They don t want companies to be able to block or charge premium rates for the use of service. This allows all data to be equal and everyone is on the same fast lane of the road, sort of speck. • 29. Levee Case Study New Orleans Define and analyze the problem New Orleans was built on a risky location. According to Lalwani, Khagram, Evans, Jackson, and Lindenber (2007, p1), New Orleans was built on a natural levee adjacent to the massive Mississippi river that was not embayed and therefore not protected from flooding. When French colonizer, Jean Baptiste La Moyne, Sieur de Bienville, founded New Orleans in 1718, it was considered a strategically significant port of trade between North America and the rest of the world due to the Mississippi River and its vast network of tributaries (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p1). On the other hand, the city s first chief engineer, Del la Tour, and geologists Kolb and Van Loplin found the site unsuitable for a city because the threat of flooding (Lalwani, et al., ... They believed that the creation of more levees would force the Mississippi into a single channel resulting in the river forming a deeper channel (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p4). Forshey surveyed the levee system, found there to be more than 847 miles of levees along the Mississippi, and suggested the creation of 159 more miles of levees to fill in gaps between the existing levees (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p4). The basis of the exclusive creation of levees proposal is the river naturally forming a deeper channel as a result of the levees. On the contrary, Captain Andrew A. Humphreys and the U.S. Corps of Topographical Engineers refuted the assertion that the levee system allowed the river to deepen its channel. He said that hard clay prevented the current from scouring the river bed, and eventually levees would result in raising the river. However, he also admitted that by careful management, levees could be built to withstand flooding from the river, (Lalwani, et al., 2007, p4). • 31. Albert Bandura Theory As the pioneering social learning theorist in the 1960s, Albert Bandura refuted the common belief that studying thoughts and emotions was unscientific. He was adamant that although one could not see these internal processes, they were still important to study. He has proven that to understand children, we must first understand their cognitive processes and the ways in which they think and reason. In my opinion, one of Bandura s most underrated theories is his study of the effects that exposure to violencehas on children. I believe that it has shaped the way many of us think about what children are witnessing, and is vital in this time where most children have constant access to technology. Bandura extensively studied modeling; he believed that children learn by watching. This applies to a variety of circumstances. For example, children learn how to behave in a social setting by watching the interactions of their peers. Children also learn through symbolic models, like stories and television. He also proposed the idea of no model learning; a child can watch someone else do something and replicate it perfectly on their first try, without ever having been formally taught. In what seems to me like a natural progression of thought, Bandura next wondered that if children absorb what they are seeing effortlessly, how are they be affected by seeing negative things, such as violence or rough behavior? In Theories of Development, William Crain (2005) describes a study Bandura conducted in 1965. Four year olds were individually shown a movie with one of three endings. In all three, the model beat up a Bobo doll. In the first, the model was praised and rewarded for doing this. In the second, the model was reprimanded and punished for his actions. And in the third, the model was neither rewarded nor punished. The children were put in a room with a Bobo doll. Those who had seen the first and third versions of the movie imitated the model many more instances that those who had seen the second version. This indicates that while seeing a model punished will make an activity less desirable, and seeing a model rewarded will made it more desirable, seeing the model neither punished nor rewarded will make the activity just as ... He had been mistaken, and in the aftermath of that discovery, had grown very unsure of Perry... At first glance this quote seems foreboding, but unless the reader has finished the book, they may not notice the foreshadowing. At the end of the book it is reveled that Perry single handedly killed the entire Clutter family, which is most likely the time when Dick made the discovery that there might be something wrong with Perry. Capote hid his foreshadowing very well, so that it is often only found once the event it foreshadowed had passed. However, this isn t to say that it was ineffective. • 50. Polonius Literary Devices In Act I Scene III of Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Polonius, the father of Laertes and Ophelia, enters as Laertes is saying his goodbye to Ophelia. Polonius talks to each of the two characters directly at different points in this scene; however, the conversations are both meant to be a helpful warning and lesson to each of the characters. The main point, or crux, of the conversation between Poloniusand Laertes was a series of small, fatherly tips and lessons to Laertes before he goes off on his trip to Paris. The main point of the conversation between Polonius and Ophelia was a warning that Ophelia shouldn t get mixed up with Hamletromantically because Hamlet wouldn t truly love her. A literary device that Shakespeare employs within the conversation between Polonius and Laertes would be the use of sentence structure. During the lecture to Laertes, Shakespeare ends every piece of advice with a period, ultimately separating the different parts of his lesson. This structure creates a kind of list that the audience is able to put together although it is not specifically separated. This serves to prove the point that Laertes has a lot left to learn but not enough time so Shakespeare sends Polonius to teach these important lessons quickly before Laertes is... This is held true by the next line used to describe Ophelia saying, Unsifted in such perilous circumstance. (Shakespeare 1.3.111). This proves that Ophelia is immature and unsure of what she s doing. • 52. Pogroms Of 1881 Analysis For many years, it was widely accepted that the Russian pogroms of 1881 were organized attacks towards the Jews spearheaded by the Russian government. This conspiracy theory was created by historians of the time. Historians living during the time of these disastrous heinous pogroms looked for an instigating hand behind the pogroms. In May of 1881, L. Schloss in a meeting of the Anglo Jewish association stated it was impossible that outrages could take place, and last in some instances more than 24 hours, in a country which bristled so with police and soldiery as Russia , without the authorities winked at them for their own purposes (Klier 384). The Levin Memorandum in 1882 summed up the conspiracy theory. Levin said what the contemporary... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Klier supports the theory that the 1881 pogroms were an ethnic riot. He writes, ethnic identity creates boundaries and divisions between us and the other (p. 79). In Eastern Europe, Jews were not only different based on their religion, they were different in their entirety. They wore different clothes, had different occupations, lived in different areas, spoke different languages, and followed different holidays. In the years prior to the pogroms, there was a true dislike of the Jews by the government and the people. The Jews were treated as a separate class, a different people. Klier discusses the anti jewish policies of Tsar Nicholas I and then the liberalization of some of these policies under Tsar Alexander II. The new policies by Tsar Alexander II actually led to increased debate over the Jewish question and increased Judeophobia. By 1881, the differences between the Jews and non Jews were accentuated not only by government legislation, but also by economics as some Jews were starting to flouish, rumors, and newspapers. The ultimate transgression that led to the pogroms was the rumor that it was the Jews that murdered the Tsar! In the first pogrom of 1881 in Elisavetgrad, the incident that triggered the start of the pogrom was a brawl in a tavern that started the shouts, The Jews are beating our people! The ... • 55. Animal Welfare And Relative Welfare Organic Animal Welfare By Jason Hubing University of Wisconsin River Falls ANSC 115 Animal Welfare Dr. Kurt Vogel Scientific Journal Report #2 12/16/2014 Introduction Much can be said about animal welfare, many aspects are relatively new. New topics and avenues of potential research are constantly surfacing. For starters, one idea I m going to attempt to tackle is an ethical one. Subjective at best in my opinion, it usually doesn t warrant serious scientific research. The topics I m suggesting are organic welfare and relative welfare. I m talking about the range of emotions animals have and how they can be interpreted to best adapt an animal s environment to maximize their welfare. Several institutions would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A consumer could be more inclined to purchase/use a product if they can believe that their product lived a full and happy life. The same criteria can be said for a prospective pet, an owner would want an all around healthy companion that can display a full range of emotion during the course of its life. Welfare can certainly be relative when you take into account the definition in context. I m going to pose an argument that for instance an organically raised, grass fed cow can claim a higher quality welfare than a stock cow; one that has been raised in a warehouse, outside of a natural frame of reference (conditions the animal could exist in with minimal human intervention). I ll even go so far as to say the physical presence of the sun may be a vital component in welfare. It has been documented that lack of sun exposure can lead to vitamin D, and calcium deficiency, various diseases because of that and even depression.[5] The definition of welfare can be measured by the accumulation of positive and negative experiences. Objectively weighing the satisfaction of every need (and possibly want) of the animal in question versus; illnesses, pain, abnormal behavior, and chronic stress, etc. Through these objective measures, an animal s level of wellbeing can be properly gauged. [3] This makes it fairly easy to measure welfare since each of these events or categories probably has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
