and rewarding. The difficulty lies in the need to strike a balance between providing insightful
examples and weaving a cohesive narrative that elucidates the essence of effective leadership.
One challenge is selecting appropriate examples that not only showcase diverse leadership styles
but also resonate with the reader. Leadership manifests in various contexts, such as business,
politics, sports, and community service, making it crucial to curate a collection of examples that
reflects this breadth.
Additionally, the essay should delve into the underlying principles that define exceptional
leadership. Analyzing the common threads that connect disparate examples requires a deep
understanding of leadership theories, traits, and practices. It demands the ability to synthesize

Furthermore, the task involves the art of storytelling. The narrative must engage the reader,

2. Short Story The Lesson
The short story The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara was written in 1972. The
Lesson was a first person point of view story, it was told by a young girl named,
Sylvia. This story tells about the shopping trip that the teacher of the class, Miss
Moore, took the children. The main ideas of this story are the economic life style,
social inequality, and lack of equal education for the African Americans. Miss
Moore tries to teach the kids there is a better life in a small trip to the toy store.
Sylvia gets angry with Miss Moore taking them to the toy store, not understanding
why she would take them. The way Toni Bambara wrote The Lesson in first person
narration gives the story realism. The story The Lesson is told by a little girl
named Sylvia, and it is about her class and Miss Moore going to a toy store. Before
they leave, Miss Moore tells them how money is not being fairly handed out in the
country and tells them where they are living is called the slums and that they are
poor. They all get in two separate cabs; Sylvia and a couple of friends are in one,
Miss Moore and the rest of the class are in the other cab. When they got out they
realized they are on Fifth Avenue, as Sylvia explains Then we check out that we
on Fifth Avenue and everybody dressed up in stockings. One lady in a fur coat, hot
as it is. White folks crazy (Bambara, 1972). Miss Moore directs them to big
windows of a building and they see all these nice things in windows saying how

3. Labor Day Essay
Labor Day is a dedication to the social and economic achievements of American
workers. It constitutes a yearly national acknowledgment to the contributions that
workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well being of our country. It has
evolved from a purely labor union celebration into a general last fling of summer
festival. The origin and deeper meaning of the day has been forgotten, or never
actually known to many.
The beginnings of the American Labor Movement started with the Industrial
Revolution. Once factory systems began to grow, a demand for workers increased.
They hired large amounts of young women and children who were expected to do the
same work as men for less wages. New immigrants were also employed and called ...

It was founded in 1869 by garment workers in Philadelphia who believed that one
union of skilled and unskilled workers should exist. The union was originally a
secret, but later was open to all workers, including blacks, women and farmers. Five
hundred thousand workers joined in a year. Their goals were an eight hour work day,
a minimum wage, arbitration rather than strikes, health and safety laws, equal pay for
equal work, no child labor under the age of fourteen, and government ownership of
railroads, telegraphs and telephones. However, the Knights of Labor was a relatively
weak organization, and eventually fell apart.
In 1886, the American Federation of Labor (AF of L) was formed and replaced the
Knights of Labor. Its leader was former cigar union official Samuel Gompers who
only wanted to focus on skilled workers. The AF of L was a conglomeration of
twenty five unions that included three hundred thousand workers working for
increasing wages, reducing hours, and improving working conditions. Gompers
believed that everyone should receive equal pay for equal work, and that everyone s
rights should be protected. He also thought the unions should be primarily concerned
with the day to day welfare of the members and should not become involved with
politics. He also thought that socialism would not succeed in the United States.

7. The Effects Of Alcoholism On The Genetics Of Alcoholism
Essay
There are many different evaluation instruments that are used to test for alcoholism,
the results are also used to help with the eventually treatment of the person diagnosed
with alcoholism. Some of the evaluation tools that are used to detect alcoholism and
the severity are the Semi Structured Assessment for the Genetics of Alcoholism
(SSAGA), Alcohol use disorder Identification Test (AUDIT), Michigan Alcoholism
Screening Test (MAST), T ACE, Addiction Severity Index (ASI) and the
Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory (SASSI). SSAGA was created by
the Collaborative Study on the Genetics of Alcoholism (COGA) is used to study
the genetic link to alcoholism. (Korsmeyer, P., Kranzler, H., 2009) AUDIT was
developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with Austria,
Bulgari, Kenya. Mexico, Norway and the United States, making it the first
screening designed for international use. There are ten sections to the AUDIT test
that are scored 0 4 points, the total number of points determines a person s severity
of alcohol dependency, which is then used to determine the required treatment
method. (Korsmeyer, P., Kranzler, H., 2009) MAST is similar to AUDIT as it is a
multiple question test, the difference is in the scoring. Each answer is worth 0 1
point and the higher the total, the more the person is at risk for alcoholism. T ACE is
a test specifically for pregnant women, it stands for Tolerance, Annoyed, Cut Down

There are a couple different female leads that are in Dracula. There is Lucy, Mina
and Dracula s three female vampires that live in the castle. Most Victorian women

vampirism and sexuality in the early parts of the book when the three females visit
Jonathan. Jonathan describes the encounter as, The girl went on her knees, and bent
over me, simply gloating. There was a deliberate voluptuousness, which was both
thrilling and repulsive, and as she arched her neck, she actually licked her lips like

that the locations of the last inhabitants were clearly visible to him, as were
fragments of their tools and utensils. Many extensive archeological excavations and
several case study theories have come about through the years as to why this
magnificent ancient metropolis faced such demise.
Many theories viable or not have come about through the years about the fall of the
Cahokians, climate change, a political falling out, a massive flood or a fire and
some erroneous suggestions involving the cosmos. Many of these theories really
do not hold a torch to the climate change or societal fall. A massive fire, a
disastrous flood, although more evidence of remains would have be revealed to be
appropriate. Overcrowding and depletion of resources can hold up to the evidence

12. Hawaii Doesn t Dance Just Hula Essay
Hawaii Doesn t Dance Just Hula Hip Hop dancing is a revolutionary style that has
spread throughout America for over decades now. Going coast to coast and even
over many oceans, especially the Pacific Ocean in the state of Hawaii. The
stereotype that all people in Hawaii are Hawaiians or that the population lives in
grass huts and doesn t know what a mall is, plagues the minds of mainlanders. So it
would be a big surprise knowing that these Hawaiians can be Hip Hop dancers too.
The message was shouted out to the whole nation when Hawaii s first Hip Hop dance
crew Hype 5 0 competed on America s Best Dance Crew season five showcasing
their dance abilities against other dance crews from around the country. Once this
message was relayed, Hawaii was put on the Hip Hop map and even more Hip Hop
influence poured into the state with dance competitions being held, Hip Hop artists
increasingly having concerts, and having dancers from Hawaii travel out to the
mainland expressing their talents and not forgetting where they are from. The
origins of Hip Hop dancing occurred in the early 1960 s and comes from various
cities within New York. Creating and incorporating different styles within New York,
they were able to construct a diverse culture of dancing that would soon spread
throughout the whole country. With dance styles such as uprock, breaking, locking,
roboting, boogaloo, and popping. Hip Hop dancing over the years improved with
these base dance styles to grow from. According

Some have argued that, because of the text s inconsistencies and incompatibilities of
thought, there is much in the Analects that is non Confucian and should be discarded
as a basis for understanding the thought of Confucius. Benjamin Schwartz cautions us
against such radical measures.
While textual criticism based on rigorous philological and historic analysis is crucial,
and while the later sections [of the Analects] do contain late materials, the type of
textual criticism that is based on considerations of alleged logical inconsistencies and
incompatibilities of thought must be viewed with great suspicion. . . . While none of
us comes to such an enterprise without deep laid assumptions about necessary logical
relations and compatibilities, we should at least hold before ourselves the constant
injunction to mistrust all our unexamined preconceptions on these matters when
dealing with comparative thought. (The World of Thought in Ancient China, p. 61)
Confucius philosophy was predominately a moral and political one. It was founded on
the belief that heaven and earth coexist in harmony and balanced strength while
maintaining a perpetual dynamism. Human beings, he taught, are sustained by these
conditions and must strive to emulate the cosmic model.

Human nature and its relevance in determining behaviors, predictions, and
conclusions has caused dispute among philosophers throughout the ages. Political
philosophy with its emphasis on government legitimacy, justice, laws, and rights

Centuries of philosophers have attempted to apply reason to why mankind has
certain tendencies. Hobbes when discussing human nature often uses beast like
tendencies as a comparison. The imagination that is raysed in man (or any other
creature indued with the faculty of imagining) by words, or other voluntary signes,
is that we generally call Understanding; and is common to Man and Beast. (Hobbes
93) Relating man to beast exemplifies Hobbes position on what he believes is
human nature. Furthering his argument that civilization rescues humanity from an
otherwise barbaric state. Hobbes view on government stems from these beliefs as
well. As explained in Leviathan, government s ultimate purpose is to control by
imposing law and order in order to protect human nature from taking over. In
respect to parenting, proper and necessary discipline is required in order to
establish order within the household. Hobbes view of man as naturally selfish and
constantly occupied with thoughts of how something may benefit them exemplifies
his pessimism. His view on the state of nature is why an absolute ruler is necessary
for a successful society. Like society a household needs a sole ruler to head that state
otherwise there would be chaos among the children and masses. Children of Thomas
Hobbes would undoubtedly be raised conservatively with a head of the household

A Limit for Their Own Good
Whether we are aware of it or not, technology has become a normal part of our
lives nowadays. No matter where we go, technology will be present, from mobile
devices to more complicated creations, and all generations are exposed to them,
specially the younger ones. This young generation spends a great deal of time in front
the screens of these technologic devices. Which is why parents should limit the
amount of time children under 12 use technology since it does not let them develop
certain abilities, it limits them from having real life interactions, and it might cause
children health problems too (Summers).
Many kids were born in the Digital Era therefore, they are surrounded by
technology and screens most of the time, mostly at home, but too much exposure
to this can affect their abilities. According to a Research made by the University of
California, Los Angeles, kids who spent time away from looking at screens were
better at recognizing human emotions than kids who kept living their lives with
technology around them (Wolpert). This show us, how replacing real life
interactions for screen time not only isolates children but also makes them unable
to develop this kind of skill, skills that are important in the real life and are likely to
be needed in the future. Besides that, kids who invest most of their time on staring at
screens can be faced by health problems in the long run. As reported by some
researchers, this health problems range from childhood obesity and irregular sleep
patterns to social and/or behavioral issues. (Summers). Therefore, considering all
these negative effects on children, parents should be more cautious regarding how
much time their kids use technology and expose themselves to screens and digital
media.
Some parents might argue, however, that kids do not necessarily waste their time
with technology and actually utilize it for educational purposes such as researching a
school project, creating music or art, or interacting with friends via social media.
(Elana). Parents might believe that this is reason acceptable enough to let them
control it as much as they need to. They are partially
17. Desert Desert Environment
The deserts of central Australia make up a unique ecoregion. As it may be properly
assumed, an arid desert environment is not easy to adapt to. Many different species,
including birds, reptiles, mammals, and various plants are able to thrive in such
conditions. Human impacts on the island continent have interrupted the success of
some of these species. One group of species that have been very negatively impacted
by human interaction are small digging mammals. These mammals are typically
small and almost rodent like. Although small, digging mammals, such as Macrotis
lagotis (the Greater Bilby), have a large impact on the vegetation biodiversity of the
ecoregion. They use their front paws to dig into the ground while they search for
food. In the process, diggings capture organic matter, provide habitat for a diversity of
microscopic and macroscopic organisms, and increase nutrient cycling. Diggings also
capture plant seeds, increasing seedling germination, recruitment, and plant growth.
The overall effect of mammaldiggings is therefore increased plant vigor and
resilience, increased biodiversity and consequently improved ecosystem functioning
(Fleming et al 2014). Due to various impacts by human, these small mammals have
quickly been declining. The large impact humans have had on the small mammals is
the introduction of invasive species. Felis catus (feral cat) and Vulpes vulpes (fox) are
overpopulated invaders who prey on species such as Macrotis lagotis and other small

Approximately a million books are published in the United States on an annual basis;
however, the majority of these fails to escape the overbearing shadows of obscurity.
Many authors utilize a methodical approach in which the first chapter attempts to
establish the setting, the characters, the tone, and ultimately a defined conflict. If the
author develops these in an interesting fashion, then the reader may consequently feel
inclined to read the rest of the novel. Jane Austens Emma, Emily Bronte s Wuthering

nineteenth century; it is probable that their success could be attributed to having a

Knightley, her brother in law, Mr. Knightley mentions that Miss Taylor will find her
life much easier now that she must only take care of one person rather than two

one of those two is such a fanciful, troublesome creature (365). Austen indubitably
succeeds in establishing tone through character interactions. Throughout the first
chapter, Emma and her father mourn Miss Taylor s absence, and this slowly
transmutes into a central conflict, as Austen states that Mr. Woodhouse has difficulty
comprehending the notion that Miss Taylor could be more content with her new life
that contrasts so greatly from the years she spent in his illustrious house. Emma
mentions the prospect of visiting Miss Taylor and Mr. Weston frequently; this
foreshadows a potential conflict in which Emma and her father attempt to quell their
woes by interfering with Mr. Weston s and Miss Taylor s life. This attempt at
foreshadowing is exacerbated through an encounter between the Woodhouses and Mr.
Knightley, her brother in law. Mr. Knightley reprimand s Emma s superstitious ability
to matchmake and dictate relationships. This gravitation toward other individuals
affairs will likely permeate the entire novel.
Emily Bronte is also able to develop the tone in a proficient manner throughout the
first chapter of Wuthering Heights. Throughout the story, Mr. Lockwood, the
protagonist, feels that his landlord, Mr.

dramatic increase from the one in eight children that received benefits prior to the

households has tripled from the information gathered in 1940. (1) These parents

comfortable by middle class standards. Aside from the challenge of providing basic
nutrition, these parents are challenged with furnishing their families with a roof over
their heads, basic utilities, a safe child care experience, and sufficient clothing to
wear to school. These parents already have to sift through hand me downs from
relatives and community organizations for clothing with minimal stains and shoes
without holes in them. When their utilities are about to be shut off, they sometimes
wait in lines for hours for a small grant to help keep the lights on and the house

churches and local community. They do everything in their power to provide a sense

all students take the same courses that give essential knowledge to carry through all
courses to achieve success in obtaining lifelong learning. The Texas State constitution
was adopted in September of 1875. (http://tarlton.law.utexas.edu/, April 22, 2017). In
1929 Texas legislation adopted Section 51.301 that requires students in public
colleges and universities to take six hours of government classes. (http:/
/www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/ED/htm/ED.51.htm#51.301, April 22, 2017). To
be considered a core class the topic must meet most of the 6 categories: critical
thinking, communication skills, empirical and quantitative skills, teamwork, social
responsibilities and personal responsibilities. (http://www.thecb.state.tx.us/reports/pdf

the 6 criteria and was therefore designated as a core curriculum in the public Texas
College and Universities. Texas Constitution adopted section 51.301 to have 6 hours

INTRODUCTION
Marginalized people are those people who are excluded from the society or society
s people don t provide them opportunity for integrating them because of this they
leg behind in social as well economic progress. We need two kinds of identity for
living in any society, those are social and economic who has social power they also
will also possess the economic power and for ruling on any society these powers are
very important. Due to long time exploitation and ignorance, marginalized people are
having their life in harsh poverty, illiteracy, health problem, malnutrition and
superstition, etc.
In India, we can categorize marginalized people based on caste, gender, disabled,
minorities (religious, linguistic, regional), etc. Hindu people come under the majority
of population, and this religion is a very fragmented religion due to Varna system,
because they have adopted the Varna system. According to their occupation, before
Uttar Vedik Era, its function was very smooth and there was no concept of
untouchability but after this era, it continued practicing. Due to different occupations,
there was the existence of caste system in Hindu religion. People can change their
religion but caste can t be changed. Because of this,
23. Geographical Impact On Human History
History can be defined in many ways and is told differently by hundreds of historians
throughout the world, but one common connecting thread in the definition of history
is that it tells the story of how human life came to be what it is today. History is the
research, analysis, knowledge, and documentation that tells the people of the world
what came before them that allows them to live their life the way that they do in this
time period. Because the world that came before now is such a vast period of time
and space, it is important to understand the smaller, but still quite monumental,
factors that shaped human historyand culture. Geography is one of those factors.
Through geographical impacts such as climate change, rivers, and fertile land,... Show

Like in Mesopotamia, the beginning of civilization and settlement in Egypt also
began with a climate change. This change, during 5000 4000 B.C.E., caused the
deserts in the Sahara to form, forcing people towards the Nile River, which
provided a strong support system to the community. This could be seen in the
effects of the annual flooding of the river. According to The Making of the West,
This predictable annual flood enriched the soil with nutrients from the river s silt
and diluted harmful mineral salts, thereby making farming more productive and
supporting strong population growth. Because the Nile was the main life source
for the Egyptian population, it became a large part of the Egyptian culture as well.
This can be seen in the Hymn to the Nile written around 2100 B.C.E., which
celebrates the Nile as a life giving and seemingly supernatural power. Not only did
geography influence the agriculture of Egypt, but also the religious practices of it s
people. The impact on geography on history is undoubtedly illustrated in the major
impact of the Nile on the life and culture of the

The four pillars of National Honor Society (NHS) include scholarship, service,
leadership, and character. I have already received this application opportunity due
to meeting the requirements of the scholarship portion of NHS, which requires a
strong commitment to learning and putting effort towards achieving high grades
in the classroom. I intend to benefit the remaining three pillars of service,
leadership, and character through my willingness to work for others free of
reward, initiative to lead my peers, and optimal decision making. Perhaps the most
rewarding of the four pillars is service because of the effect it can have on
communities. Service is the act of doing work for someone or for a certain cause,
but also doing this solely for the benefit of the people around you. I feel that I can
benefit the NHS organization because of my willingness to help others. In the past, I
have gone on a missions trip for my church which involved helping to rebuild the
homes and churches in the inner city of Cincinnati and taking part in the effort to
bring joy to the youth of that community. This work helped many underprivileged

Working as an LDS counselor in Plano, TX, I ve heard patients use the term,
dysfunctional family, many times to describe either their adult homelife or their
childhood homelife. Often they use the term jokingly or justify the behavior or
personality they re describing by saying that every family is somehow dysfunctional.
While every familyoperates in its own unique way, not every family is dysfunctional.
True family dysfunction damages every individual in a family and creates
shockwaves of psychological and emotional turmoil that can last for generations.

How Family Dysfunction Affects Children
As an LDS counselor in Plano, TX, I have seen the many ways that children are
affected by living within a dysfunctional family. Children can suffer from a variety of
lifelong problems that include anxiety, depression or suicidal thoughts, addiction to
alcohol or narcotics, sexual dysfunctions including sexual abuse, paranoia, low self
esteem, bullying others, lack of self control, joining a cult and replicating their
dysfunction with their own families when they are

Money Laundering
In todays world there are so many different ways to commit a crime. You might not
even realize it, that it could be a family member or even a really close friend
committing these crimes. I am talking about a white collard crime called Money
laundering. Have you ever wondered what Money laundering really is? With this
research paper, you will get a chance to finally learn what it really is all about. You
will get an inside look into Money laundering. From their we will learn about the
types of people that commit this type of crime and why. Then we will look into
how they ended up getting caught. After that we will take a look into all the cases
against the people and corporations that were caught red handed laundering money.
Now that I have caught you re your attention, you are probably thinking to yourself;
What is Money laundering? Money laundering is a term that refers to the activities
and financial transactions that are undertaken specifically to hide the true source of
the money (IRS.GOV) that you have received. This is usually happening when you
are receiving your money illegally and trying to show that you are receiving the
money from actual business type situations. A great example would be a drug dealer
receiving all of his money from selling drugs and then turning around and saying he
is receiving the money from a fake storefront or even from construction. When in
reality they do not

humiliating experiences, or even misunderstandings with the good people. The good

mean people, the bystanders, the regular people, and the hero. In Beowulf, there s
much more backstory to Grendel and why he is portrayed as, and most possibly has

They go ahead anyway and even try to burn his home down. In relation to Beowulf,
one of Grendel s encounters with humans before his reign of terror was Hrothgar
killing his father for taking fish, something other than human flesh that the family
survived on; a necessity. He has no understanding or compassion to humans as
Jinenji did, because he was not raised by one, but born by the statistic of an
encounter with one as a demon. Any other encounter with a human must have met
a similar fate as Jinenji s, just as the people sent the beautiful and also supernatural
Beowulf after him because of his monster like appearance. After witnessing his
mother s death at the hands of Nazis, Magneto dedicates his life to avenging her.
Along the way he s introduced to Professor X and the good natured pack of mutants

What the sole cause of addiction is a highly contended issue as it is an illness that
stems from both physiological and psychology factors. This essay will focus on drug
addiction and in order to effectively evaluate its potential causes and treatments, I
will examine the effects of cocaine. Drug addiction is a complex illness that entails
countless physiological and psychological changes in a person. There is no singular
cause that has been determined to onset addictionbut rather an accumulation of social,
environmental and even genetic factors (Agrawal and Lynskey 2008). The best
approach to counteract cocaine addiction involves behavioral intervention programs
as well as incorporating medication to assist with the onset withdrawal symptoms...

Contingency management (CM) is a form of treatment in which the patient receives
systematic rewards for good behavior (Petry, 2000). The use of motivational
incentives has been shown to significantly encourage abstinence in cocaine dependent
patients as the tangibility of a reward is an effective substitute for the patient (Higgins
et al, 1994). However, CM is not a comprehensive approach to countering addiction
but rather a means to prolong the client s ability to remain abstinent; thus giving them
an opportunity to utilise other clinical or behavioral treatments and increase their

VCs Who they are, who they fund in India.
Venture capital, as we use the term, refers to one type of private equity investing.
Private equity investments are investments by institutions or wealthy individuals in

actively involved in managing their portfolio companies than regular, passive retail
investors. The main types of financing included in private equity investing are venture

Venture capital has been the driving force behind some of the most vibrant sectors of
the US economy over the past two decades. Venture capitalists were instrumental in
fostering the tremendous growth of firms such as Microsoft, Compaq, Oracle, and

These days, many millennials value uniqueness and as a fashion boutique, we owe
it to ourselves to follow the desires of the customers. The second method used to
determine the viability of the new services is the level of profitability. The cost to
provide the new services is relativity low compared to the expected revenue. When
it comes to customizing outfits, the cost to provide the services relates to stylist
spending time with the customer taking their measurements and design
requirements. The company warehouse has employees creating ready to wear
outfits and so the stylist would communicate to the warehouse the design and size
requirements from the customers. The level of profitability can also be used to
determine the need for the shipping option. Clients have asked on numerous
occasions whether we would be able to ship to them because they are not able to
make the journey to the retail outlets. By providing a shipping option and passing
some of the cost of shipping to the clients, we can increase our reach and
profitability in different markets. Finally, the third method used to determine the
need for these two services is a total evaluation of our market competitors. Two
competitors directly provide Indian ready to wear outfits and at a similar price point.
These two retail companies have half as many retail stores but have a similar market
footprint. What we found was that one company offers the shipping option

In the Kentucky Resolutions of 1798, there are 9 issues that ended up being

Alien and Sedition acts are four bills in the U.S passed by the Federalist during a
time when they had a navel war with France, also that will be later known as the,

reason behind the, Alien and Sedition actswere to try and strengthen our national

thought of going to war with the French because they were targeting our ships. The
United States was also having a lot of incoming French moving into the United

Of...
Banished from the Massachusetts Bay Colony for her arguments against Puritan
orthodoxy, Anne Hutchinson was a well educated woman who became renowned for
her antinomian controversy against the Puritan doctrine of predestination. She argued
that living religiously and devoting your life to God and his laws does not entitle a
human to salvation. With women being reserved among the Puritanculture, Anne
Hutchinson s arguments against the Puritan doctrine of predestination threatened the
advocates of law and order with her antinomianism assertions and placed women on a
different hierarchy during and after the premodern era. Antinomianism was
Hutchinson s argument against the Puritan clergy; therefore, it challenged the idea of
salvation and the MassachusettsBay Colony. Hutchinson originally followed the
footsteps of John Cotton, who created a theology that taught that, a moral life was
sufficient grounds for salvation (Dailey). Hutchinson held meetings at her home
which discussed Cotton s lectures that proved to be popular amongst Bay Colonists.
These meetings were responsible for the uprising of Hutchinson, because this is
where she gathered over sixty women to put their radical spirituality at a very
controversial position. Puritan judges were very critical on anti Puritan ideas and sent
anyone to trial who attempted to interrupt the Puritan experiment of spreading Puritan
ideas. Continuing to attack the ideas of salvation, Hutchinson s most threatening

how the Puritan lifestyle was extremely strict as the government was intertwined

questioning their religion their society was based on. The witch trials also
allowed me to gain an understanding of the McCarthy hearings as during these trials
people were wrongly accused of being communist spies forcing them to lose their

crucible has also helped me to learn about the time and era the play was set as well
as the tragedy of the McCarthy trials from which it was based. The crucible also
demonstrated aesthetic devices that are memorable to me even though I studied it
a year ago. The most notable aesthetic device which I can recall is during Giles
Corey s execution by weighted stones. As stones were placed on top of a board
placed on his chest he was asked one final time to respond to the charges that were
falsely placed against him however his last words were More Weight which in turn
killed him as the sheer weight crushed his body. In this scene the weight symbolises
41. Edgar Allan Poe Impact
I have made no money. I am as poor now as ever I was in my life, was a quote from
Edgar Allan Poe. This quote can be applied to his career but also to both of his
father s David Poe and John Allen. Both men have left an scaring impact on Edgar
s life. Even though, the men have had a negative impact they have inspired many of
his poems and have made him who he is which is unquestionable. Poe s personality
is dark and unhappy which has been blamed accordingly to the men in his life. The
men David Poe and John Allan have impacted his life by abandonment, money, and
not being loyal to him. During Edgar Allan Poes life men have had a negative lasting
impact, more specifically his father David Poe and his biological father John Allen
have made
42. Integrated Basic Education System
Background and Problem Statement
While an effort has been made to allow for a more seamless transition from high
school to college or from AEL to college, there still is not a strong effort to increase
persistence among African American students. According to Bush and Bush, (2010),
African American males, in particular, are under achieving and lag behind their
counterparts in the community college system. . . (p. 52). With AEL aligning with
the community college model, one could conclude that African Americanmales are
lagging behind their counterparts in AEL as well. According to Bush and Bush
(2010), There is a pronounced scarcity of educational literature and research about the

educational success related to disparities in social capital as well as barriers to
earning good grades and navigating the academic climate in a successful manner (p.
54). These negative experiences at the hands of administrators and teachers are said to
be educational barriers. Unlocking Opportunity (2014) uses information from a report
by the National Women s Law Center (2012) which includes educational barriers such
as stigmatization and harassment by administrators, teachers, and fellow students , as
barriers that prevent African American young women from realizing their potential,
forcing them to reluctantly leave school (p. 27). In order to achieve a sense of
belonging, some girls chose to assimilate with their White counterparts but were
unsuccessful. As Unlocking Opportunity (2014) notes:
Too many African American girls are in a no win situation: they either conform to
white, middle class notions of how girls should act and be quiet and passive, which
ultimately does not serve girls well in their pursuit of an education; or they speak up
and get disciplined for defying those expectations and conforming to educators
stereotyped expectations for African American girls (p.
