Writing A College Level Essay
Crafting an essay on the intricacies of writing a college-level essay can be a formidable task,
requiring a delicate balance of scholarly prowess and effective communication. The difficulty lies
not only in the depth of understanding required but also in the need to articulate complex
thoughts with clarity and coherence.
Firstly, delving into the nuances of academic writing demands a comprehensive grasp of the
subject matter. One must navigate through the intricacies of the chosen topic, gathering relevant
information, and synthesizing it into a coherent narrative. The ability to critically analyze various
perspectives and present a well-argued thesis is pivotal, adding an additional layer of challenge.
Furthermore, adherence to the conventions of academic writing is imperative. Mastery of citation
styles, grammatical precision, and structuring the essay in a logical flow are essential elements
that contribute to its success. Striking the right balance between formality and engagement is
another tightrope to walk, ensuring the essay maintains an academic tone while captivating the
reader's interest.
Time management becomes a crucial factor as well. The research process, drafting, revising, and
editing demand a significant investment of time and effort. Juggling these components
efficiently is a skill in itself, requiring discipline and a strategic approach.
Lastly, the pressure to meet the expectations of a college-level essay adds to the difficulty.
Professors often look for originality, depth of analysis, and a sophisticated writing style. Meeting
these expectations while also conveying a personal voice can be challenging, as it requires a
nuanced understanding of the academic landscape.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the intricacies of composing a college-level essay is no small
feat. It demands a multifaceted skill set encompassing research proficiency, writing acumen,
adherence to academic conventions, time management, and the ability to meet high expectations.
Despite the challenges, successfully navigating this terrain is a valuable skill for any student.

Behavioral Finance By Daniel Kahneman And Amol Tversky
1.8. BEHAVIORAL FINANCE
The whole concept of Behavioural Finance was introduced by Daniel Kahneman
and Amol Tversky in late 1960s. They are called as the father of Behavioural
Finance. Their observation began to kick off a whole range of discoveries, with
ramifications that investors cannot afford to ignore. Later, Tversky and Kahneman
began to uncover previously searched series of behavioural bias that causes investors
to act irrationally. In 2002, Daniel Kahneman received the Noble Memorial Prize for
his contribution to the study of rationality in economics. Understanding Behavioural
Finance and how it affects the markets is the key to a successful investment strategy.
Behavioral Finance is the new emerging science that explains the irrational behaviour
of investors. Behavioral Finance unwind the usual assumption of traditional finance
by incorporating systematic, observable and human departures from rationality into
models of financial markets and behaviour. It helps us to understand the actual the
behaviour of investors versus theories of investors behaviour. ... Show more content

History of The Super Bowl Essay
The impact of the Super bowl has been a phenomenon. In fact, since January 1967 it
has become part of the American culture, which illustrates that it has become the
single most important event in the sporting world currently (Johnson, Savidge, pp.
83). The Super bowl had quite humble origins, which is why it is shocking to
understand as to why this game became vastly popular and remains that way. In fact,
one would notice that it is a county fair, a weeklong convention along with an
unofficial national holiday with the right game for the television. Therefore, the name
of the game is no exaggeration. One can also notice the economic trends and success
of the Super Bowl. The economic footprints of this particular game are actually more

Therefore, before addressing the history of the Super Bowl and the reasons for it
becoming such a mega scale event, it is important to discuss the National Football
League.
Importance of Football
These are the not so obvious reasons that make Super Bowl such a popular game,
and such an important cultural event. According to McBride (1995), football is able
to show violence, blood, groans and grunts in the right way, since there is no actual
death. Therefore, war and commerce both find their rationalized version through the
ritualistic performance of Football, more specifically Super Bowl in this context. It
affirms to the identity of American men that they are real men, who are able to enjoy
power and violence and they are not weak. The symbolization of the phallic
aggression of war and destruction becomes possible through football (Langman, pp.
75).
History about National Football League
Without any doubts, the National Football League is considered to be the most
popular sports league within the United States. It has a huge amount of prominence
on the global sporting landscape. NFL has been able to build Super Bowl into this
dynamic event that we see today (Coombs, pp. 93). The League was formed in
1920 and it was only after WWII that it was able to gradually gain the kind of
prominence that it has today. It had to

while Mahayana ( Greater Vehicle ) which believed that there are others to reach
Nirvana like chanting and good works, still exists in Korea, China, Japan, and Tibet

Internal audit s role in modern corporate governance
Recent events have highlighted the critical role of boards of directors in promoting
good corporate governance. In particular, boards are being charged with ultimate
responsibility for the effectiveness of their organisations internal control systems. An
effective internal audit function plays a key role in assisting the board to discharge
its governance responsibilities. Yet how does the board and its audit committee
satisfy itself that internal audit is functioning effectively and efficiently?

fundamental distinction between the respective roles of the board (oversight) and
management (decision making and the execution of those decisions). Key activities
which fall within the definition of effective oversight include listening, asking
questions, assessing and challenging answers. In many respects this is exactly what
an effective internal audit function does.

Explain The Three Methods Of Evolving Themselves In
War...
For millions of years bacteria have been surviving to their environments and been at
war against other microorganism. This wars have lead them to creating an
unstoppable arsenal of weapons they can use to survive. Unlike virus that need a
host cell to survive, bacteria can survive anywhere since they can share their DNA
with each other. This allows bacteriato survive in places like radioactive waste, zero
oxygen environments, and even in absolute darkness. Unlike human beings who are
born with a specific genetic code, bacteria have the capability of changing that code.
Bacteria have three methods of evolving themselves in order to survive the harsh is
of conditions. The three methods are called horizontal gene transfer. The first is

So if a bacterium has a gene resistant to Penicillin dies and another bacterium picks
up that gene, now the bacterium that is alive is resistant to Penicillin. This allows
the bacteria that die to still have an influence in the colony. The second method is
called transduction or the passing of virus. Since virus are just pieces of DNA or
RNA they can latch onto genes from one bacterium and then transfer them to another
bacterium thus giving more bacteria that gene that may be resistant to a specific
antibiotic such as penicillin. The final method is called conjugation which allows
bacteria to create a gene transferring connection with each other and when they break
apart both bacteria can gain genes from each other allowing them to be resistant to
possibly two antibiotics. Horizontal gene transfer is bacteria biggest weapon against
everything we throw at them. So the question is can we evolve our own weapons,
antibiotics, fast enough to counter these methods bacteria use to survive (Hobley,
The Bonds of a Language Essay
The Bonds of a Language
Amy Tan is the author of several novels including The Joy Luck Club and The
Kitchen God s Wife. She was born in the United States to parents who immigrated to
California from China (Gruber 35). In her article entitled Mother Tongue , Tan
focuses on the English shared between her mother and herself versus the English that
she speaks with everyone else, and how it has affected her outlook on language.
Through her examples, she presents to the audience the obstacles faced by her mother
s limited English. Tan demonstrates that no matter how much someone may change,
the most important things lay back in their roots.

While intriguing the reader, Amy Tan also presents a strong argument.
Tan displays a couple types of argument structures in her article. She gives several
examples of problem solving in her experiences with her mother. If her mother
needed something and her limited English prevented her in any way from
accomplishing that, she would use Amy to assist her. The example of her in the
hospital shows a solution to the problem of people not being able to understand Tan s
mother. To help the doctors to do what her mother was asking, they had to call Amy,
who immediately solved the problem. Another structure used throughout the article
was the spatial structure. Tan comes from a different community having been raised
in a Chinese home. She became immersed in the culture of China in her own home,
learning about the history and heritage of her parents. She later had to learn to
become part of the American culture, which is vastly different. Fortunately, she still
holds a special place in her heart for the language that she speaks with her mother,
which is different from the English she speaks with everyone else. Tan also
demonstrates this idea of encountering new spaces by her experiences with her
mother s stockbroker and at the hospital. She has to do things her mother is

The conservative is raging up for a fight about abortion. The Federal gave their
support together with Helen Polley the Tasmanian senator, who pushed about gay
marriage. The Labor Party spoke to show more about gay marriage. This became an
argument issue with the gay marriage and the abortion trying to get conservative
supporters. The Australian Labor Party is all for the gay marriage and the abortion,
they are trying to get more people who are against the two to be for the two. When
someone has their mind set on something they do not want to be for, they will stay

Before the year 2019, Australian Labor Party will not vote for gay marriage. The
Prime Minister of Australia, Tony Abbott has thinking about gay marriage to be
legal if it was done correctly. The conservative Labor will not have to vote against
gay marriage until it has become legal and will not allow it to happen before 2019.
The campaign making gay marriage legal in Australia gives supporters the
government ranks and they need to get voters on the other side. The Labor Party has
bumped up the pressure on Tony Abbott to not be able to vote against
Gender, Political, And Economic Equality Of The Sexes
In the words of the famous Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a feminist
is a person who believes in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes.
I believe that though some might argue that ever since women got the right to vote
men and women have been equal, it simply is not so and it is evident in so many
different aspects, from a parent s desire to abort a fetus when they learn the genderis
female to the unequal pay in the U.S. working class between the genders. In all
societies men and women have different gender identities assigned to them from
birth which include, but are not limited to differences in dress and actions, social
responsibilities, and of course job roles. We live in a world where a man is
ridiculed for taking his wife s last name or in the case of my mother, the cost of
choosing to hyphenate her last name with my fathers is for her to be singled out
and marked as a red flag by United States airport security every time she travels. We
are systematically ingrained to hold men and women to different standards and roles
which then expands into the workforce, creating inequality because in the fight for
the same role the men will eventually dominate over the women. Gender inequality
in the workplace is a very common, important social and economical issue that has
been around for many years and, at today s rate, will be around for the next one
hundred years.

Pokemon And Pop Culture
For years, Pokemon have been a large part of pop culture with highly acclaimed
games, popular television shows, extensive merchandise, and many movies, so it is
safe to assume nearly everyone interested in pop culture knows what a Pokemon is.
However, some people may have no clue what one is, so ,simply put, a Pokemon is a
colorful monster that in the handheld video gameseries can be raised by the player to
fight other Pokemon that are either wild or raised by characters in the game. To
progress through any of the games, Pokemon must be caught, and catching one is a
simple and easy process, the player must encounter a wild Pokemon, the player then
needs to weaken the Pokemon, and lastly the player must throw a Pokeball at the
Pokemon.

Statement of Purpose for the Doctor of Physical Therapy
As I have almost completed my sophomore year of college, I know what my career
goals are at this point. I am currently on the physical therapy track planning to
declare the major of exercise science: applied kinesiology. I became interested in PT
after hearing many appealing things about it such as: the rapid growth and demand of
physical therapists, the purpose it serves, and financial stability that comes along
with the rewarding work. I am eager to learn about the functions, progress, and
healing of the human body in the most natural manner, and through exercise science
my knowledge in this study will certainly grow. The majorof exercise science:
applied kinesiology prepares students for a variety of fields in the health/human
sciences. Throughout the specified and course intensive curriculum, students learn
advanced problem solving skills, interpretation of critical information, and
understanding/ manipulating kinetics of the human body; each skill will grow
stronger throughout the curriculum and will be essential in treating patients. PT is
one of many career choices for exercise science majors. In order to practice
independently in any setting, the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree must be
obtained. In order to obtain the degree, one must be accepted into the DPT program,
requiring the prior completion of specific coursework as well as 10 1000 hours of

Class Differences in Blood Brothers, by Willy Russell Essay
Willy Russell creates a play to show us the class differences that existed in
Liverpool in the 1980 s. He does this by showing us the contrasting lives of the two
boys and their mothers. Mrs Lyons has an easy life and Mrs Johnston has a hard
life and has to work hard to earn a living. The same applies to the boys as Mickey
has the hard life and Eddie has the easy life. Willy Russell also shows us that
education, living conditions, housing and wealthcan be affected as a direct result of
your class and social background. This meant that the people from working class
backgrounds had a harder life because they didn t have the same opportunities.

Finally Russell shows us that she is in such a desperate situation that she ends up
giving her child away. This makes you feel sorry for her because she is on her own
and has to cope with everything herself.
This tells us that because of her social background her life chances are limited.
Russell shows us she is uneducated through her superstition. Today if a woman is
left alone then she gets help from the government through income support, child
benefit and other kinds of financial backing. But at this time the government didn t
offer financial help to the people so many people like Mrs Johnston suffered. But
life is still not equal because many people still can t afford designer clothes or afford
to send their children to private school.
This has changed now because then the government didn t provide any financial

Importance Of Good And Evil In The Novel Always...
With an angel and devil on the top of your shoulders whispering into your ear, who
do you listen to the most? Of course, we try to listen to the angel and try to do good
but in some cases, the little devil will overpower and make you do something evil. In
the book Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned by Walter Mosley, the main
character, Socrates Fortlow, is put in a position of good and evil when he then ended
up in prisonfor double murder and rape. Socrates was incarcerated for 27 years and
lived a hard prison sentence but once he got out the devil stayed and the angel got
out with him as he tries to help others and better himself. Just because Socrates is
trying to help others doesn t necessarily mean he s a better man now. He still needs
to better himself before helping others. He has the mentality of a monster but a
heart of a greatness and helpfulness. Being in prison didn t give Socrates any
opportunities to grow as a person because he couldn t, he had to find a way to
survive the prison life. Once he got out he still had the prison mentality but tries to
put it under control. He knows he has to do good to balance out the wrong he did
in his life. That s when Socrates started to mentor an eleven year old boy name
Darryl, who has accidentally killed another boy. When they first met Darryl had
killed Socrates friend Billy the rooster. Socrates told Darryl why you kill my friend?
but he heard the fear in the boy s voice when responding that he didn t kill anybody.

Pleasure and pain are emotions that are used in the lives of people daily. Both
pleasure and pain evoke emotional and physical responses from them. Pleasure allows
human beings to experience happiness, joyfulness, and laughter through their lives.
Pain allows them to be exposed to sadness, remorse, and crying. Most people do not
realize the philosophical importance that is placed on these emotions. Two
philosophers, Jeremy Bentham and Arthur Schopenhauer, are well known for their
research regarding pleasure and pain. Jeremy Bentham believed that pleasure and
pain were directly related to happiness. Because of this, he developed a scale to show
the relevance of pleasure and pain to man s happiness. Arthur Schopenhauer believed

Schopenhauer believed that pleasure is just the absence of pain, like Bentham. The
world is full of strife and frustration which produces much conflict. Schopenhauer
believed that the escape of all this conflict, or pain, was to reject it. However,
philosophical art held the key to a temporary release. Since his philosophy is based
on sympathy, Schopenhauer expressed the idea in which feeling one s hurt or
sorrow can be an effort in relieving pain (Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, 6th
Edition). In order to lose the strife in the world, the people need to minimize their
desires so there will be a tranquil frame of mind and arrangement towards the universe
(Wicks, Robert). Schopenhauer explains that suffering is caused by the willing,
therefore the more intense the willing the more intense the suffering. In every want
there is a willing, and in every willing there is a suffering. Suffering is just an
uncompleted willing or want, including the pain felt in the body (Kerns, Tom).
Schopenhauer explains suffering as a continuous cycle, because when a want or
desire is fulfilled, a new desire is replaced with old. In Schopenhauer s eyes,
suffering is completely caused by the frustration and conflict that arises from
competition between individual wills (UK
Gandhi s Vision and Life in Attenborough s Films
Mohandas K. Gandhi (1869 1948), the man, the legend, is still echoing in the
contemporary world. He had a vision for his birthplace, in the wake of colonization
and war, to be tolerant, violent free and neutral towards all religions. Gandhi had
chosen the secular state, that is, the state that was neutral but not hostile to religions
(Parel Brown, 2011, p. 161). He rejected what was considered progressive and
fashionable; to put the responsibility of state cruelty on the victims, criticizing them
for fighting excesses. Subsequently, affording the perpetrators an opportunity to
inflict more punishment on the people. Through discussing Gandhi s philosophical
approach and Attenborough s film successes in depicting his ideas, this essay will
demonstrate how Gandhi s vision and life relates to that of the Sufi Sheikh and
monk in Al Mureed and Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring Again films
respectively. During the early 1940s, India was going through a historical turmoil
agianst British colonization. Gandhi, among others, refused submission to the
perpetrators. He realized that submission demeans human dignity and ensures
absolute slavery. They see life only in terms of jobs, even if menial in nature, and
some sort of economic benefits even if these are leftovers of what is rightfully
yours. Their advocacy is for grooming people to become well fed slaves instead of
accepting temporary hardships for a life of freedom and dignity. For them submission
is a supreme virtue
Jonathan Swift s True Purpose

Jonathan Swift s True Purpose Happy adventure tale, wonderful children s book,
filth, and absurd were just a few words that people during the 17th century used to
describe Gulliver s Travels. During the 17th century there was a period of new
ideas and creativity; that period was called the Reformation. The Reformation
period was a time of change for how people interpreted the world around them. The
opinions of Gulliver s Travels were based off of interpretations of the book, the
interpretations were not always correct; therefore, the opinions were not correctly
informed. Swift was specifically committed to the Protestant idea, that man is sinful
by nature. ( Novels for Students 83). Jonathan Swift s Gulliver s Travels uses satire to
critique the human condition. Swift uses his satire to create a world where he
displays all of the ways humans can and have acted towards others. Swift examines
the human condition through the Lilliputians, Laputans, Brobdingnag, Houyhnhnms,
and the Yahoos. Some people misread the book and that is why there are uninformed
negative opinions towards the book. The people that misunderstood were offended,
after discovering it is not a simple adventure tale, but a tale about the unfavorable
side of a person. These people called the book horrible, shameful, and
Effects Of The Aztecs During The Conquistadors
Mexico was one of the main points of the conquistadors conquest. Mexico was home
to two of the biggest Pre Colombian civilizations, the Aztecs and the Mayans. The
Mayans and Aztecs both faced the wrath of the conquistadors, as they were both
conquered very easily due to the Spanish s advanced weaponry. After conquering the
natives, the Spanish would rule over that land for anout 300 years. This new ruling
came with new foods, races, animals, and changes that effected the natives.
One of things that was brought to Mexico during the Colombian Exchange, although
unintentonally, was disease. The Spanish brought diseases such as smallpox, measles,
tuberculosis, and mumps. These were diseases that the natives had not been exposed
to, so they had no immunity to them. Even though the Spanish did have much more
advanced weaponry than the natives, it was the diseases that wiped out most of the
native population. It is believed that within a century of the arrival of the Spanish,
the population of the Aztecs decreased by 80 95%, going from 12.5M to roughly
about 1.5M in population (History of Disease). The Spanish shared the same fate, but
not as severe, many died from syphillis. A disease that was much more dangerous
during that time than it is today. (Columbian Exchange)
The second thing brought over from Spain was animals. The most influential animal
that was brought to Mexico by the Spanish was the horse, which played a significant
role in the colonization of the Aztecs and

Define political culture.
American political culture puts a special emphasis on hard work, and is rife with
stories of successful businessmen and leaders. (USHistory.org, 2016)
Political culture is the attitudes, convictions, and conclusions which give order and
intending to a political process and which give the hidden presumptions and
guidelines that represent conduct in the political framework. It envelops both the
political goals and the working standards of a country. Some say it is the

Liberty is what American political culture is based off of and the vast majority
consider the right be free, as long as another s rights aren t mishandled. Basically, as
long as you aren t harming others you have the right to freedom. Liberty doesn t
involve complete freedom because there are rules and laws to help protect the rights
and safety of others. We have a limited government meaning that our government s
power is restricted by the constitution. In order to protect our civil rights from the
government, we also have the Bill of Rights. Equality is easily put as an opportunity
for equality, not absolute equality. Although, it doesn t promise equal outcomes.
Liberty and Equality work together in our nation by giving everyone as close as can
be to the same options. By balancing the two together we can get many different
results. All citizens have the right to make their own personal choices and to have
their own outcomes without having to be like others.
Does political culture affect politics? How? Or why not?
Yes, political culture does make an effect on politics. Political
The Journey Of Alvar NГєГ±ez Cabeza De Vaca
Throughout the history of Texas, Europeans have influenced Texas history and its
findings. From the beginning, Europeans were the ones that discovered Texas while
exploring the Americas. A Spanish explorer, Cabeza De Vaca, was the first person to
ever step foot on Texas soil. He documented his journey about his findings in Texas
and the Americas. The book was called The Journey of Alvar NГєГ±ez Cabeza de
Vaca. When the Spanish came, they spread their diseases to the defenseless Native
Americans that resided in Texas.

period of the great migration, thousands of Europeans immigrated to Texas.
In 1842 to 1878, Germans created an organization for German immigrants to attempt

Adelsverein. It brought approximately sixty thousand German immigrants to Texas.
Affluent Germans created a society, in which they helped farmers who didn t have

The Germans affected the Texas Revolution quite a bit as well.
Some German immigrants lended a hand to the Texans, helping them with the battles
in the Texas Revolution. They fought at the Battle of San Jacinto, died defending the

German even signed the Texas Declaration of Independence. Since many German
immigrants had settled here, they passed laws in German including English as well.

Taking a Look at the Spanish Conquest
Introduction:
THE SPANISH CONQUEST of the Americas is an interesting story of exploration,
wealth, greed, devastation and death. The Aztec civilization, which lived in what we
know today as central and South America, began to come under threat from European
explorers during the late 15th century. The Azteccivilization was one of the most
spectacular in the world, and at its heart was the masterpiece of the Aztec capital,
Tenochtitlan. However, the prosperity and wonder of the Aztecs came to an end with
the arrival of Hernan CortГ©s and his Spanish conquistadors. Hernan CortГ©s
unjustified barbaric actions caused the total demise of one of the most diverse,
powerful, creative and advanced civilizations in all of history.

making a name for himself as a young explorer. Like any explorer Hernan was both
ambitious and greedy.
What was the Ancient Prophecy? And How did it aid CortГ©s invasion?
In the year 1519 the words of a ancient prophecy would come back to haunt
Moctezuma II. The story told of the ancient god of Quetzalcoatl (feathered serpent or
precious twin. God of intelligence and self reflection). Who is said to departed Mexico

and to have worn a beard. The story states that he proclaimed that one day he would
return to reclaim his throne. The expected year of his return was to be the year one

Christian calendar. The same year Moctezuma had received reports of moving
mountains seen in the waters of the Mexican coastline. Hernan Cortes had arrived.
Depending on how you look at it this could have been one of histories greatest

had landed moctezuma sent him lavish gifts as a bride of leaving, but the very gold
that he was given would ensure the Aztecs destruction. Hernan kept asking for gold
and the more gold he was given only wetted his appetite for more. As the Spaniards

Anti Intellectualism By Richard Hofstadter
What is Anti Intellectualism? According to Dictionary.com, Anti Intellectualism is
defined as being hostile toward intellectuals and the modern academic, artistic, social,
religious worlds as well as other theories that are associated with them. Although
Richard Hofstadter s Anti Intellectualism in American Life won the 1964 Pulitzer
Prize, it is now almost fifty fives out of date. Not to mention the ideas within the book
are seen as suggesting a type of self defensive justification rather than an actual deep
investigation. Hoftstader used the aftermath of McCarthyism and how there were
wide range witch hunts among the academics and progressives and how that is
influenced by the reform, socialists and communist movements between the World
Wars. Applying McCarthyism, Hoftstader looks at the tension from four different
perspectives: religion, politics, business, self help culture, and education. Taking into
consideration the year the book was written, each angle is explored from the colonial
period up until the 1950s. Throughout the introduction, Hofstadter makes it clear that
the purpose of the book is to shed a little light on our cultural problems. Focusing on
the social and political phenomenon of anti intellectualism Hofstadter applies broad
abstractions to social issues. He explains how applications of the abstracts presented
by intellectuals can ultimately pose a threat to the social and political ambitions of
certain and specific individuals. Because of this,
Analysis Of The Condemnation Of Na Prous
One of the most profound disruptions of Na Prous is the condemnation of the Pope.
The most important detail to recognize is that these condemnations come not from
Na Prous, but from God as told to Na Prous. By comparing John XXII with
Caiaphas, who crucified Christ, Na Prous claims that the current Pope is as sinful as
those who the church has condemned as sinful:
All those who are familiar with the bible recognize the severity of these
comparisons. Therefore, if the church was to follow its own principles, Pope John
XXII should be punished like the men of which Na Prous speaks: This people is
similar, for as the head of the holy church of God, he should have ruled the church
according to the will of God, that is, the will of our Lord Jesus

Father Paneloux and The Plague
As a Christian speaking to the people of Oran, it would be very difficult to say

Even though God may be allowing it to happen, He is not the one causing the
affliction. Once again, God will not cause suffering until the time of tribulation.
Proof of this can be found in the book of Job where God calls Satan and has him
afflict Job with nearly every affliction possible. Clearly, just like his first sermon,
Father Paneloux s second sermon displays his terrible understanding of the nature
and actions of God and causes even more people to turn away from God.
If I were to talk to the people of Oran, I would first try to make clear why many of
Father Paneloux s ideas are incorrect without being mean to him. I would definitely
detail how this affliction is not a result of God s wrath and tell the people why this
kind of thinking is completely wrong. I would do this by ensuring the people that
God does not cause suffering in this current age and that he even wants to help
everyone through the affliction they are currently experiencing. It would be very
difficult to drive out the false doctrine that Father Paneloux has taught to the people
of Oran, but that would have to be my first priority. Otherwise, the rest of my
sermon about God s love would not make any sense to a crowd that still believes
God is responsible for the suffering currently present in Oran.
My other priority if I were to give a sermon to the people of Oran would be to focus

The Note On The Banking Crisis
The Banking Crisis The Banking Crisis, 2010
Although there are multiple opinions on the causes of the banking crisis, there is
one thing on which there is general agreement. If banking were still practiced as it
was by George Bailey in the movie It s a Wonderful Life, the crisis would not have
happened.
To understand why the crisis occurred, it is useful to understand the chain of events
that contributed to it and the role each played. This chain transformed the slightly
stodgy, conservative banks of George Bailey s day to the high stakes world of Wall
Street, where large fortunes could be made with financial innovation.
The first step in the chain dates back to 1938, when the Federal National Mortgage

The act encouraged banks to lend to low and moderate income neighborhoods.
While this was an admirable goal, some believe that to meet quotas established by
this act, banks were forced to engage in imprudent lending. In the 1980s, coming off
a recession, Congress enacted several laws designed to promote free enterprise by
reducing regulations. One of these laws was the Alternative Mortgage Transaction
Parity Act of 1982, an act that permitted the creation of adjustable rate mortgages,
balloon mortgages, and negative amortization mortgages. These would be the types
of mortgages that would create what became the subprime crisis, as buyers who did
not qualify for standard mortgages, at prime interest rates, would be attracted to these
higher interest rate mortgages and eventually default on them.
The Tax Reform Act of 1986 eliminated the tax deduction for interest paid on credit
cards, but retained the deduction for interest on mortgages. This act made home
equity loans highly attractive to many consumers. Believing that their homes would
continue to rise in value, homeowners took out home equity loans to finance such
purchases as cars and home improvement, increasing the amount of debt owed on
their homes and leading to an unhealthy amount of personal debt in the financial
system. In 1970, debt was 60 percent of domestic personal income. Debt increased to
134 percent of domestic personal income by mid 2008.

The Negative Effects Of Multitasking
Multitasking has become a large phenomenon in everyday life. Many people claim to
be great multitaskers, but is that really the case? According to some experts,
multitasking, especially when evolving technology, can actually have negative effects
on performance and awareness. Thus, we set out to test how well students, the
population that seems most effected by multitasking, could multitask when being
timed. Using basic instruments like quarters, cards, a timer, and a survey, we created
an experiment that simulated some of the difficulties of multitasking, and measured
the amount of time it took people to do multiple things at a time. The results
demonstrated that overall, doing more than one thing at a time, is both time
consuming, and requires more active thinking.
Multitasking and Its Effects on Everyday Life People have always wanted to be
able to get things done quicker. Whether it be a student wanting to finish a paper,
while making plans so that they can go hang out with their friends, or a worker
wanting to finish a task, but finish setting up lunch plans with other coworkers so
that they can relax and take a break, people are constantly looking for ways of saving
time and doing more than one thing at once. However, with all of this search for an
answer of ways to multitask comes another question, is multitasking beneficial? How
can multitasking be bad? With the invention of cellphones, and particularly
smartphones, more and more people are finding themselves

The Role Of Society In To Kill A Mockingbird
Society has made an impact on so many people as well as children. The world is
changing around us, you all have different points of views and different reactions.
In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird , at the age of six Scout has learned that people
can be harsh and that there is always good and evil in people according to Atticus. A
child s development can be understood as when everything around the child changes
them, from the parents to friends. Therefore, in To Kill A Mockingbird it s shown
that society can change people, but an individual can benefit from this change when
they see a situation not from one point of viewbut instead multiple.
Even small children can have the wisdom to see a situation from the perspective of
the multiple and to the contrary, sometimes, even an adult is stuck in a single
minded approach. In To Kill A Mockingbird there is a strong character named
Scout. Society has changed Scout at the age of six, she learnt to view the world in a
multiple minded approach. Atticus once told Scout you never really understand a
person until you consider things from his point of view until you climb into his skin
and walk around in it . This quote from the novel shows us that Atticus is trying to
teach Scout that you need to look at his or her point of view before having an opinion
or saying on a situation. Before anyone talks first understand what is going on,
imagine you are in that position, right there, right then. After imagining that situation
A Summary Of The Short-A Short Story
The rusty, scarlet gear of Jimmy s clock starts to turn as usual on this crisp autumn
morning. Although school was out on this particular Sunday in 1945, the ringing
of his clock began at six o clock and lasted until the drowsy boy could lift his
rawboned hands. The crimson colored cotton blanket was tiredly kicked off by his
scrawny foot. His light skin was soon met with a chilling breeze that gave shivers
down the boys four foot seven frame. The undersized pin house was lively and
sprawling with activity for such an early morning as Jimmy wandered for
breakfast. The stairs screamed out as he walked them, just like it had done
thousands of times, although he still gets frightened from the ear piercing noise.
Alfred, the family dog, greets Jimmy as he steps out into to house s main room.
The lab s cinnamon fluff completely shields his hefty body, making it almost

Jimmy knew something was wrong. Jimmy watched as his father rushed into their

each of them. He started to ask himself if his parents knew about this beforehand,
but he was still too shaken and the words couldn t find the exit. Get to the car now.

Essay on Inconsistencies in Hume s Empirical Thought
Inconsistencies in Hume s Empirical Thought
In his Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, David Hume attempts to uncover
the ultimate truth about where our knowledge comes from. This leads him to suggest
that all our ideas and knowledge arise from outward experiences and sensations. He
attempts to prove this by solving the problem of induction. I disagree with Hume s
ideas, and in this essay I will explain why. I shall begin by explaining the problem
of induction, and the sceptical doubts Hume raises concerning the inductive process.
I will then explain how Hume solves the problem. Finally, I will conclude by
offering a critique of Hume s doctrine, and explain why I find it to be inconsistent.
In order to understand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once Hume establishes the ultimate source of knowledge, he then attempts to
probe into the various types of ideas, and how ideas relate to one another ? He
suggests that all ideas are related in one of three ways: First, Hume utilizes the
concept of resemblance. He explains this concept through an analogy of a
photograph. In his words, a picture naturally leads our thoughts to the original. 3
The basic idea here is that an impression leads one to remember the object, which
one has experienced. The second way in which ideas give rise to one another is
through Contiguity. Basically, contiguity suggests that thinking of one object
inevitably leads one a discourse concerning the others. The third way Hume offers
is that of Cause and Effect. This seems to be the most obvious of the three. When
we think of a cause, we invariably envision its effect. When we imagine placing our
hand on a hot stove, we generally accompany that idea with its perceived effect, i.e.
getting burned. These principles, which Hume refers to as connexions , form the glue
that bind all ideas together.
After explaining where ideas come from, and how they connect to one another, Hume
is now free to delve into the actual objects of human reason and enquiry. Here, Hume
divides all the objects into two categories: Relations of Ideas and Matters of Fact.4
The first idea can be defined as those ideas that arise from pure logic, such as
arithmetic and spatial

views isn t the one who s friendly, honest and kind. It s someone, however is
occasionally dark and who knows how to defend, enrich and bring honor to the
state which is also an extremely important goal. Being pleasant and compassionate
may well be a virtue in general but what citizens mostly need from their rulers is
effectiveness, which may well be call upon some darker moves. Once we understand
these basic requirements we tend to be clearer of what we want from our politicians.

Some rulers like Caligula and Hitler started their reign as being loved by the people
then later they used fear to rule because of the difficulties that were arising during
their reign. The problem with using fear as Machiavelli suggests is that there is
indeed a thin line between being feared and being hated also every other ruler uses
fear to govern his people usually pass that line and gets hated by the people. This
hatred towards the ruler causes rebel against him. If a ruler were to follow all
these guidelines mentioned in chapter 17 that man might be a great respected ruler.
Machiavelli says that a ruler must not touch a citizen s property. He must give
justifications if he wants to avoid being hated. But the problem with this is that
majority of the ruler chooses fear not according to all of Machiavelli s guidelines.
Unfortunately it is humans nature to be greedy, rebellious and envious. So how
does the ruler establish the authority without being feared by the people? The
answer I believe is love. It is only through love that a ruler can gain people respect,
servitude and obedience without stirring up the emotions of fear, anger and hatred.
On the other hand the answer perhaps also lies in the social and cultural
The Dumbest Generation Summary
In a 2014 article on Psychologytoday.com, Ray Williams informs his audience about
the rise of anti intellectualism in American in an article called: Anti Intellectualism
and the Dumbing Down of America. Williams clams that America has suffered in
intellectualism because society has dismissed science, the arts, and humanities and
have been replaced by media, entertainment, and ignorance. He backs up this claim by
citing Susan Jacoby, author of The Age of American Unreason, Pulitzer price winner
Richard Hofstadter, author of The Dumbest Generation, Mark Bauerlein, a number of
studies and statistics done across the country, and as well as many other authors on
this subject. Williams makes bold claims by comparing American educationto

Williams writes In addition, we do not see in Japan significant numbers of the
types of religious schools that are designed to shield children from knowledge
about basic tenets of science and accepted understandings of history such as

largely deists which are essential to having a fundamental understanding of the
world. He clearly is stating and claiming religious schools are anti intellectual.
Napp Nazworth, reporter to The Christian Post, contradicts Williams by presenting
Private religious schools perform better than public schools, and public charter
schools performed no better than regular public schools, according to a new study
by William Jeynes, professor of education at California State University at Long
Beach and senior fellow at the Witherspoon Institute at Princeton. Not only is this an
ethical horrible comparison, but also very illogical. Since when do religious schools
have an anti intellectual presentation? Believing in a God should make a difference
if you are intellectual or not. Williams loses his audience by alienating millions of
believers under that argument. Williams is attacking those who are attend a religious
school and casts them as anti science and anti reason. Another unethical theme
Williams presents is cherry picking research. All the research done by Williams is

The Chesapeake Bay And The Bay
The Chesapeake Bay, which derives from the Algonquin word Chesepiooc
meaning great shellfish bay , has been around for a very long time. Approximately
35 million years ago, a rare bolide (a comet or asteroid like object) hit what is now
the lower tip of the Delmarva Peninsula, creating a 55 mile wide crater. The bolide
created what geologists call the Exmore Crater, which they believe was as large as
Rhode Island and as deep as the Grand Canyon. Although this bolide did not create
the Chesapeake Bay, it helped determine that a bay would eventually be located there.
Today, the Chesapeake Bay stretches from Havre de Grace, Marylandto Norfolk
Virginia. The Bay is approximately 200 miles long, up to 35 miles wide, and has an

The Bay s salinity varies widely from season to season and from year to year,
depending on the amount of fresh water flowing from its rivers. The Bay tends to
be fresher in spring, when snow melts and heavy rainstorms frequently fall. During
the drier months, the Bay is usually saltier. Salinity also increases with depth. Fresh
water remains at the surface because it is less dense than salt water. The water on
the Bay s eastern shore tends to be saltier than the water on the western side. This is
due to two factors; most fresh water enters the Bay from its northern and western
tributaries, and The Coriolis Force, a phenomenon caused by the earth s rotation,
pushes flowing water in the Northern Hemisphere to the right, causing saltier water to
move up the Bay veers toward the eastern shore.
The Chesapeake Bay is the largest estuary in the United States. About half of the Bay
s water volume comes from salt water from the Atlantic Ocean. The other half drains
into the Bay from its enormous 64,000 square mile watershed. Estuaries are among
the most productive environments on earth, creating more organic matter each year
than similarly sized forests and agricultural areas. Estuaries also provide diverse
habitats for wildlife and aquatic life, protect our communities against flooding, reduce
pollution of waterways, and support local economies through commercial and
recreational activities. Thousands of species
A Research Study On Quantitative Research
A Quantitative Research Study Overview

Introduction As we continue our discussion in comparing qualitative versus
quantitative research, we now focus our attention on quantitative research. In my
personal opinion, I feel that quantitative research is harder to understand but breaking
the article into sections allows me to understand the basic concepts. This week we
will examine and in discuss a quantitative research article. The name of the article is

However, there is little research that provides a clear definition of what is meant by
social support (Leahy Warren et el, 2009). In other words, there is no research
which has measured the relationship between social support and maternal parental
self efficacy using a domain specific instrument developed and supported by self
efficacy model and post natal depression with first time mothers at six weeks post
delivery
(Leahy Warren et el, 2009)
Maternal Parental Self Efficacy and Depression By now, some of you may be
asking the same question that I had when I first started reading this article. What is
meant by maternal parental self efficacy and post natal depression? It is important
to understand these two definitions in order to understand the article. Maternal
parental self efficacy is a belief that a parent holds about themselves in terms of
being able to care for and parent a child (Leahy Warren et el, 2009). These includes
the ability to plan, organize, and execute actions in order to produce the desire results
with the belief that there is a strong correlation between the age of the mother and the
number of children (Leah Warren et el, 2009).

The Advantages Of Peer Pressure

The Issue Of Domestic Violence
In February 2014, Ray Rice, a professional football player for the Baltimore
Ravens, got into a physical altercation with his fiancГ© in a casino elevator in
Atlantic City, NJ. Rice was indicted and charged with aggravated assault and the
NFL suspended him for two games. Many thought the NFL s punishment should
have been harsher, but the story quickly faded away. Later, in September of 2014,
a full video of the altercation in the elevator surfaced and was released to the
media. The video shows Rice and his fiancГ© arguing and hitting at each other; the
video ends with Rice knocking his fiancГ© unconscious and literally dragging her
out of the elevator. He stood there calmly, as if this was a normal occurrence, while
casino security and others were trying to help her. Rice, being a public figure,
brought the issue of domestic violenceto the forefront of all media outlets. For
several weeks this was the topic of all new stations, magazines, and internet sites.
The public was appalled at Rice s actions and many were angry at his fiancГ© for
sticking by him. Many questions arose about Rice s case and domestic violencein
general. For example, Doesn t he know any better ? Why did she go on to marry
Rice a month after the altercation instead of leaving him ? Should he be allowed to
play professional football any longer ? All of these questions and public concerns led
me to investigate domestic violence further and the epidemic of it in this country. The

Stephen King: On Writing
Stephen King is a man of many talents and personalities; not only is he able to
scare his readers immensely, he is also able to make them laugh. I chose a passage
from Stephen King s On Writing for this assignment; the passage stuck in my mind
for a long time after I finished the book. His writing style is unique compared to the
other autobiographies I have read over the years. Everything that a person writes
has a meaning or purpose whether it s a letter or an essay and voice, tone, and style
play a very important part in how the reader views the piece of writing. King

Essay about An Analysis of Yeats The Second Coming
An Analysis of Yeats The Second Coming
Yeats poem The Second Coming, written in 1919 and published in 1921 in his
collection of poems Michael Robartes and the Dancer, taps into the concept of the
gyre and depicts the approach of a new world order. The gyre is one of Yeats favorite
motifs, the idea that history occurs in cycles, specifically cycles twenty centuries in
length (Yeats, The Second Coming ln. 19). In this poem, Yeats predicts that the
Christian era will soon give way apocalyptically to an era ruled by a godlike desert
beast with the body of a lion and the head of a man (ln. 14). Critics have argued about
the exact meaning of this image, but a close reading of the poem, combined with

7 8), and his central images, the rocking cradle of Christ (ln. 20) to the rough beast
(ln. 21).
Other kinds of echoes, literary rather than poetic, emerge as well; Yeats connects The
Second Coming with Shelley s Prometheus Unbound in lines 7 and 8, The best lack
all conviction, while the worst/Are full of passionate intensity (Drake 53), and even,
Jeffares suggests, the Divine Comedy, by altering the hawk of an earlier draft to
more closely resemble the ample circuit of a falcon described in Dante s
masterpiece (A Commentary 241). Yeats surely made these allusions to borrow
the literary scale of these prophetic masterpieces. But far more important in this
respect is his borrowings from the Bible. Most central and obvious are the Second
Coming of Christ described in Matthew 24 and the beast of the apocalypse from
Revelations, but Purdy also notes the vision chapters of Daniel (7 12), Isaiah s
prophecy of the Day of the Lord (14.6 11, 19 22), old Ezekiel s cherubim (10.1ff),
and Jeremiah s denunciation of Isreal (2) (75), not to mention Yeats location of the
beast s birth at Bethlehem, the birthplace of Christ two thousand years ago
(Jeffares, W. B. Yeats 38). The Bible is, of course, the western world s primary work
of prophecy, and Yeats use of its language gives his own work a tone of prophecy.
The tool of Yeats prophecy, crystallized in the widening gyre traced by the falcon, is
a concept Yeats detailed

Moreover, as a result of cooperation with these groups, Hydro One chose to
financially support 23 locally designed projects that are proposed by 13 different
groups for better improving the local area. The offset project works through
quantifying the relevant habitat loss due to the reinforcement construction and the
relevant habitat gain by the offset. Because of the trans regional property of the line
construction, the quantifications are used independently in very watershed traversed
for achieving the no net habitat loss in each local watershed area. Moreover, besides
the sole quantification of habitat changes, the social factors also have been taken into
the consideration of habitat loss and gain assessment. The social factors include the
related changes in local educational opportunities, First Nations participation
opportunities, local entertainment utility. Consequently, Hydro One not only met the
requirement of no net loss, but also made a net gain to habitat via this offset project.
There are more detailed points of Hydro one project that are worth to mention.
The cost is another essential factor in consideration of project application. Hydro one
costed 16 million dollar for the total environment expenditure which includes fixed
and variable cost, because cost structure indicates the types and relative proportions
of fixed and variable costs that a business expends. Fixed costs remain the same
despite that the amount of goods
Argumentative Essay On Over Prescription Drugs
Are prescription drugs overprescribed? Are patients being prescribed the correct
medications that they actually need? Are generic drugs doing the same for the human
body that marked up brand name medications are? These are some of the public s
biggest questions that can be easily answered by research. Everyone is affected by
medication and healthcare in general today. Many real life scenarios are offered
throughout this writing to support the argument. The following thesis statement is a
worldwide problem. Unfortunately, the United States has the largest problem with
inflation of drugcost and over prescription of medications. Many people are to blame:
drug manufacturers, insurers, prescribers, educators, and many others. A change is

Competition within the marketplace is not being controlled effectively by the
FTC. Insurance companies against medical care facilities are killing consumers
pocketbook. Brand name pharmaceutical companies against a generic drug
pharmaceutical cause inflation in prices as the two drug companies compete with
each other. Real life examples are overwhelming to hear. In concluding efforts of
this argument here are some strong real life examples supporting the thesis. Since
2007, Lyrica has helped treat the pain of those who suffer from fibromyalgia. In
2014, the drug was Pfizer s top selling drug and brought in $5.17 billion in sales,
and in 2015, the drug was the pharmaceutical giant s second best selling drug
bringing in $4.8 billion. The price of the drug increased by about 51 percent over
the three years, which produced $208 million sales attributed solely to the price
hike. (The Facts About Rising Prescription Drug Cost, 2016, p.2) The previous
real life examples like narcan, epipen, and 0.9% normal saline are all very similar
examples of sales skyrocketing and prices continuously on the rise. A perfect
example of the FTC and FDA not doing their job is the next example. Sovaldi, a
drug to treat Hepatitis C virus, costs $1,000 per day for the 12 week course of
treatment amounting to $84,000. Additionally, a drug like Sovaldi is often
prescribed in concert with other drugs, significantly raising the total treatment cost.
An 18 month investigation by United States Senate Committee on Finance into
Gilead Sciences Hepatitis C drugs Sovaldi and Harvoni found that the company
pursued a marketing strategy and final wholesale price of Sovaldi...that it believed
would maximize revenue...Fostering broad, affordable access was not a key
consideration in the process of setting the wholesale
Physics, Love, and Richard Feynman Essay
Physics, Love, and Richard Feynman
Introduction
Physics. Love. These two words sum up the entities that Richard Feynman held most
important throughout his entire life. An extraordinary individual, Feynman was able
to combine an incredible mind with an incredible personality to achieve ends
bordering on the magical. After Feynman s death in 1988, physicist Hans Bethe,
paraphrasing the mathematician Mark Kac, spoke of two kinds of geniuses. He
explained that the ordinary kind does great things but lets other scientists feel that
they could do the same if only they worked hard enough. The other kind performs

Before Richard Phillips Feynman was born on May 11, 1918, his father had
proclaimed, If it s a boy, he ll be a scientist (Mehra 1994, p. 2). He was right,
although it is interesting to note that Feynman s sister Joan, nine years his junior,
also has a Ph.D. in physics (Feynman 1988). But while Melville Feynman might
have been wrong about predicting the careers of his children based on their sex, he
certainly prepared the young ones well for the scientific occupation. In an
interview just before his death, Feynman was asked if he could name a great
influence in his life. He said, My father. Early in my life, he d tell me about the
world, about nature and how interesting it was (Brian 1995, p. 49). The elder
Feynman took his son on long walks in the woods, read to him from the
Encyclopedia Britannica, and encouraged him to conduct experiments with
household materials. Throughout elementary school, Feynman tinkered with toys,
clocks, radios, and anything else he could secure for his laboratory, a workspace in
the corner of his bedroom. Besides influencing Feynman to think about the wonders
of science from a young age, Melville taught his son some non scientific lessons that
would greatly impact Feynman s views on certain issues. For example, Feynman
learned from his father to show indifference to authority, and to devalue honors and
awards. Melville was in the uniform business, and knew that there was no difference
between a man with a uniform on and
William Shakespeare s Othello as a Mirror of Man Essay...
Othello as a Mirror of Man
In the play Othello by William Shakespeare, the characters are symbolic of qualities
found in every human. The main characters, Othello, Desdemona and Iago, are key
examples of this. Othello is symbolic of jealousy and pride; Desdemona is symbolic
of kindness and honesty and Iago is symbolic of deceit and selfishness. Shakespeare
uses all of these traits to depict his characters in Othello and exaggerates their
personalities throughout the play. In this essay, it will be proven that the characters
Othello, Desdemona and Iago, are all metaphorical representations of human
emotions and characteristics.

but also causes him to show his jealousy. He really does love her that the thought
of her being with another man is unbearable to him. She causes him to be so
stressed that he has seizures. When he asks to see the handkerchief that he gave
her as a present and represents for him their love, he gets angry and yells at her
because he thinks she has given it to Cassio: Is t lost? Is t gone? Speak, is t out o

that he loses all trust in Desdemona. Despite the lack of proof that there is a real
affair, Othello wants to murder Cassio and Desdemona for tarnishing his
reputation. However, it is his paranoia that is threatening his reputation: How shall
I murder him / Iago? (Act 4, Sc. 1, l. 188 189). At the downfall of his existence, when
he has killed Desdemona, he finally realizes that he is wrong and that he killed his
beloved wife because of his unbridled jealousy and pride. He regrets his actions and
tries to correct his mistakes by apologizing and asking for the witnesses to speak of
him after he is gone as he was before:
I pray you in your letters,
When you shall these unlucky deeds relate,
Speak of me as I am. Nothing extenuate,
Nor set down aught in malice. Then must you speak

  • 4. History of The Super Bowl Essay The impact of the Super bowl has been a phenomenon. In fact, since January 1967 it has become part of the American culture, which illustrates that it has become the single most important event in the sporting world currently (Johnson, Savidge, pp. 83). The Super bowl had quite humble origins, which is why it is shocking to understand as to why this game became vastly popular and remains that way. In fact, one would notice that it is a county fair, a weeklong convention along with an unofficial national holiday with the right game for the television. Therefore, the name of the game is no exaggeration. One can also notice the economic trends and success of the Super Bowl. The economic footprints of this particular game are actually more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, before addressing the history of the Super Bowl and the reasons for it becoming such a mega scale event, it is important to discuss the National Football League. Importance of Football These are the not so obvious reasons that make Super Bowl such a popular game, and such an important cultural event. According to McBride (1995), football is able to show violence, blood, groans and grunts in the right way, since there is no actual death. Therefore, war and commerce both find their rationalized version through the ritualistic performance of Football, more specifically Super Bowl in this context. It affirms to the identity of American men that they are real men, who are able to enjoy power and violence and they are not weak. The symbolization of the phallic aggression of war and destruction becomes possible through football (Langman, pp. 75). History about National Football League Without any doubts, the National Football League is considered to be the most popular sports league within the United States. It has a huge amount of prominence on the global sporting landscape. NFL has been able to build Super Bowl into this dynamic event that we see today (Coombs, pp. 93). The League was formed in 1920 and it was only after WWII that it was able to gradually gain the kind of prominence that it has today. It had to

  • 7. Explain The Three Methods Of Evolving Themselves In War... For millions of years bacteria have been surviving to their environments and been at war against other microorganism. This wars have lead them to creating an unstoppable arsenal of weapons they can use to survive. Unlike virus that need a host cell to survive, bacteria can survive anywhere since they can share their DNA with each other. This allows bacteriato survive in places like radioactive waste, zero oxygen environments, and even in absolute darkness. Unlike human beings who are born with a specific genetic code, bacteria have the capability of changing that code. Bacteria have three methods of evolving themselves in order to survive the harsh is of conditions. The three methods are called horizontal gene transfer. The first is Transformation, but some pathologists call it the Funeral Grab .... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So if a bacterium has a gene resistant to Penicillin dies and another bacterium picks up that gene, now the bacterium that is alive is resistant to Penicillin. This allows the bacteria that die to still have an influence in the colony. The second method is called transduction or the passing of virus. Since virus are just pieces of DNA or RNA they can latch onto genes from one bacterium and then transfer them to another bacterium thus giving more bacteria that gene that may be resistant to a specific antibiotic such as penicillin. The final method is called conjugation which allows bacteria to create a gene transferring connection with each other and when they break apart both bacteria can gain genes from each other allowing them to be resistant to possibly two antibiotics. Horizontal gene transfer is bacteria biggest weapon against everything we throw at them. So the question is can we evolve our own weapons, antibiotics, fast enough to counter these methods bacteria use to survive (Hobley,

She was born in the United States to parents who immigrated to California from China (Gruber 35). In her article entitled Mother Tongue , Tan focuses on the English shared between her mother and herself versus the English that she speaks with everyone else, and how it has affected her outlook on language. Tan demonstrates that no matter how much someone may change, the most important things lay back in their roots. Tan directs this article in a certain way to allow for several people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While intriguing the reader, Amy Tan also presents a strong argument. Tan displays a couple types of argument structures in her article. She gives several examples of problem solving in her experiences with her mother. If her mother needed something and her limited English prevented her in any way from accomplishing that, she would use Amy to assist her. The example of her in the hospital shows a solution to the problem of people not being able to understand Tan s mother. To help the doctors to do what her mother was asking, they had to call Amy, who immediately solved the problem. Another structure used throughout the article was the spatial structure. Tan comes from a different community having been raised in a Chinese home. She became immersed in the culture of China in her own home, learning about the history and heritage of her parents. She later had to learn to become part of the American culture, which is vastly different. Fortunately, she still holds a special place in her heart for the language that she speaks with her mother, which is different from the English she speaks with everyone else. Tan also demonstrates this idea of encountering new spaces by her experiences with her mother s stockbroker and at the hospital. She has to do things her mother is

  • 10. Gender, Political, And Economic Equality Of The Sexes In the words of the famous Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a feminist is a person who believes in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes. I believe that though some might argue that ever since women got the right to vote men and women have been equal, it simply is not so and it is evident in so many different aspects, from a parent s desire to abort a fetus when they learn the genderis female to the unequal pay in the U.S. working class between the genders. In all societies men and women have different gender identities assigned to them from birth which include, but are not limited to differences in dress and actions, social responsibilities, and of course job roles. We live in a world where a man is ridiculed for taking his wife s last name or in the case of my mother, the cost of choosing to hyphenate her last name with my fathers is for her to be singled out and marked as a red flag by United States airport security every time she travels. We are systematically ingrained to hold men and women to different standards and roles which then expands into the workforce, creating inequality because in the fight for the same role the men will eventually dominate over the women. Gender inequality in the workplace is a very common, important social and economical issue that has been around for many years and, at today s rate, will be around for the next one hundred years. There are many dangers worldwide that a person might be exposed to, but

Across the corridor, a piano is opened which may be the reason of the eerie noise. Two people are sitting on the opposite sides of a rectangular table facing each other. It is dark, only one chandelier is releasing a subtle yellow light between them. The person on the left is covered in a blackoutfit. He is covered in a black mask and has leather gloves on his hands. The person on the right is The Weeknd with his familiar dreadlock hair. After slamming shut his fiery cigarette lighter, the masked person gently tightens his glove. Knowing it is his last chance to save his life, The Weeknd tries to escape from the zip ties holding his hands and legs firmly onto the chair. Consequent booms of high pitched sounds accompany the mysterious man as he stealthily walks towards The Weeknd. He harshly covers his head with a transparent plastic bag. The same applies to the boys as Mickey has the hard life and Eddie has the easy life. Willy Russell also shows us that education, living conditions, housing and wealthcan be affected as a direct result of your class and social background. Both pleasure and pain evoke emotional and physical responses from them. Pleasure allows human beings to experience happiness, joyfulness, and laughter through their lives. Pain allows them to be exposed to sadness, remorse, and crying. Most people do not realize the philosophical importance that is placed on these emotions. Two philosophers, Jeremy Bentham and Arthur Schopenhauer, are well known for their research regarding pleasure and pain. The world is full of strife and frustration which produces much conflict. Schopenhauer believed that the escape of all this conflict, or pain, was to reject it. However, philosophical art held the key to a temporary release. Since his philosophy is based on sympathy, Schopenhauer expressed the idea in which feeling one s hurt or sorrow can be an effort in relieving pain (Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, 6th Edition). In order to lose the strife in the world, the people need to minimize their desires so there will be a tranquil frame of mind and arrangement towards the universe (Wicks, Robert). Schopenhauer explains that suffering is caused by the willing, therefore the more intense the willing the more intense the suffering. In every want there is a willing, and in every willing there is a suffering. Suffering is just an uncompleted willing or want, including the pain felt in the body (Kerns, Tom). Schopenhauer explains suffering as a continuous cycle, because when a want or desire is fulfilled, a new desire is replaced with old. In Schopenhauer s eyes, suffering is completely caused by the frustration and conflict that arises from competition between individual wills (UK

He had a vision for his birthplace, in the wake of colonization and war, to be tolerant, violent free and neutral towards all religions. Gandhi had chosen the secular state, that is, the state that was neutral but not hostile to religions (Parel Brown, 2011, p. 161). He rejected what was considered progressive and fashionable; to put the responsibility of state cruelty on the victims, criticizing them for fighting excesses. Subsequently, affording the perpetrators an opportunity to inflict more punishment on the people. Through discussing Gandhi s philosophical approach and Attenborough s film successes in depicting his ideas, this essay will demonstrate how Gandhi s vision and life relates to that of the Sufi Sheikh and monk in Al Mureed and Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring Again films respectively. During the early 1940s, India was going through a historical turmoil agianst British colonization. Gandhi, among others, refused submission to the perpetrators. He realized that submission demeans human dignity and ensures absolute slavery. They see life only in terms of jobs, even if menial in nature, and some sort of economic benefits even if these are leftovers of what is rightfully yours. Their advocacy is for grooming people to become well fed slaves instead of accepting temporary hardships for a life of freedom and dignity. For them submission is a supreme virtue

Mexico was home to two of the biggest Pre Colombian civilizations, the Aztecs and the Mayans. The Mayans and Aztecs both faced the wrath of the conquistadors, as they were both conquered very easily due to the Spanish s advanced weaponry. After conquering the natives, the Spanish would rule over that land for anout 300 years. This new ruling came with new foods, races, animals, and changes that effected the natives. One of things that was brought to Mexico during the Colombian Exchange, although unintentonally, was disease. The Spanish brought diseases such as smallpox, measles, tuberculosis, and mumps. These were diseases that the natives had not been exposed to, so they had no immunity to them. Even though the Spanish did have much more advanced weaponry than the natives, it was the diseases that wiped out most of the native population. It is believed that within a century of the arrival of the Spanish, the population of the Aztecs decreased by 80 95%, going from 12.5M to roughly about 1.5M in population (History of Disease). The Spanish shared the same fate, but not as severe, many died from syphillis. A disease that was much more dangerous during that time than it is today. According to Dictionary.com, Anti Intellectualism is defined as being hostile toward intellectuals and the modern academic, artistic, social, religious worlds as well as other theories that are associated with them. Although Richard Hofstadter s Anti Intellectualism in American Life won the 1964 Pulitzer Prize, it is now almost fifty fives out of date. Not to mention the ideas within the book are seen as suggesting a type of self defensive justification rather than an actual deep investigation. Hoftstader used the aftermath of McCarthyism and how there were wide range witch hunts among the academics and progressives and how that is influenced by the reform, socialists and communist movements between the World Wars. Applying McCarthyism, Hoftstader looks at the tension from four different perspectives: religion, politics, business, self help culture, and education. Taking into consideration the year the book was written, each angle is explored from the colonial period up until the 1950s. Throughout the introduction, Hofstadter makes it clear that the purpose of the book is to shed a little light on our cultural problems. Focusing on the social and political phenomenon of anti intellectualism Hofstadter applies broad abstractions to social issues. He explains how applications of the abstracts presented by intellectuals can ultimately pose a threat to the social and political ambitions of certain and specific individuals. Because of this,

One of these laws was the Alternative Mortgage Transaction Parity Act of 1982, an act that permitted the creation of adjustable rate mortgages, balloon mortgages, and negative amortization mortgages. These would be the types of mortgages that would create what became the subprime crisis, as buyers who did not qualify for standard mortgages, at prime interest rates, would be attracted to these higher interest rate mortgages and eventually default on them. The Tax Reform Act of 1986 eliminated the tax deduction for interest paid on credit cards, but retained the deduction for interest on mortgages. This act made home equity loans highly attractive to many consumers. According to some experts, multitasking, especially when evolving technology, can actually have negative effects on performance and awareness. Thus, we set out to test how well students, the population that seems most effected by multitasking, could multitask when being timed. Using basic instruments like quarters, cards, a timer, and a survey, we created an experiment that simulated some of the difficulties of multitasking, and measured the amount of time it took people to do multiple things at a time. The results demonstrated that overall, doing more than one thing at a time, is both time consuming, and requires more active thinking. In our journey of self discovery we experience different events, and encounter people from diverse backgrounds that influence who we are, and aide us in finding our true selves. The many life events and individuals that are encountered from childhood to adulthood have an influence not only on our desire to pursue higher education, but also on our political views. The world is changing around us, you all have different points of views and different reactions. In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird , at the age of six Scout has learned that people can be harsh and that there is always good and evil in people according to Atticus. A child s development can be understood as when everything around the child changes them, from the parents to friends. Therefore, in To Kill A Mockingbird it s shown that society can change people, but an individual can benefit from this change when they see a situation not from one point of viewbut instead multiple. Even small children can have the wisdom to see a situation from the perspective of the multiple and to the contrary, sometimes, even an adult is stuck in a single minded approach. In To Kill A Mockingbird there is a strong character named Scout. Society has changed Scout at the age of six, she learnt to view the world in a multiple minded approach. Atticus once told Scout you never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view until you climb into his skin and walk around in it . This quote from the novel shows us that Atticus is trying to teach Scout that you need to look at his or her point of view before having an opinion or saying on a situation. Before anyone talks first understand what is going on, imagine you are in that position, right there, right then. After imagining that situation
  • 38. A Summary Of The Short-A Short Story The rusty, scarlet gear of Jimmy s clock starts to turn as usual on this crisp autumn morning. Although school was out on this particular Sunday in 1945, the ringing of his clock began at six o clock and lasted until the drowsy boy could lift his rawboned hands. The crimson colored cotton blanket was tiredly kicked off by his scrawny foot. His light skin was soon met with a chilling breeze that gave shivers down the boys four foot seven frame. The undersized pin house was lively and sprawling with activity for such an early morning as Jimmy wandered for breakfast. The stairs screamed out as he walked them, just like it had done thousands of times, although he still gets frightened from the ear piercing noise. Alfred, the family dog, greets Jimmy as he steps out into to house s main room. The lab s cinnamon fluff completely shields his hefty body, making it almost hopeless to find even his eyes, which lay camouflage beneath the wool. Mama had already fried the eggs and bacon and poured milk for three. The Blou family had lost their only daughter, Tina, from Influenza only a year before. The family still breaks down at the thought of her, but they have become better in recent months. After devouring the homemade breakfast, the Blou s split apart to do their given tasks. Papa and Jimmy are assigned to work at the fields while Mama stays indoors except for the occasional visit outside to the men. Although it s a routine morning for the Blou s, something was different, at least Jimmy could feel it. Just as Jimmy reaches for his trusty hoe, an alarm beckons over the entire eighty seven acres of Little Rock farmland. After the alarm sounded, the family gathered at the house. What s happening Mama? questioned Jimmy, unsure if he should be worried. Don t be scared, Jimmy. Everything is just fine, assured Mama, although Jimmy knew something was wrong. Jimmy watched as his father rushed into their bedroom and return only moments later with three bags already packed, one for each of them. He started to ask himself if his parents knew about this beforehand, but he was still too shaken and the words couldn t find the exit. Get to the car now. Everyone go! announced Papa. I ll go get Alfred as you prepare to leave,

Essay on Inconsistencies in Hume s Empirical Thought Inconsistencies in Hume s Empirical Thought In his Enquiry Concerning Human Understanding, David Hume attempts to uncover the ultimate truth about where our knowledge comes from. This leads him to suggest that all our ideas and knowledge arise from outward experiences and sensations. He attempts to prove this by solving the problem of induction. I disagree with Hume s ideas, and in this essay I will explain why. I shall begin by explaining the problem of induction, and the sceptical doubts Hume raises concerning the inductive process. I will then explain how Hume solves the problem. Finally, I will conclude by offering a critique of Hume s doctrine, and explain why I find it to be inconsistent. In order to understand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once Hume establishes the ultimate source of knowledge, he then attempts to probe into the various types of ideas, and how ideas relate to one another ? He suggests that all ideas are related in one of three ways: First, Hume utilizes the concept of resemblance. He explains this concept through an analogy of a photograph. In his words, a picture naturally leads our thoughts to the original. 3 The basic idea here is that an impression leads one to remember the object, which one has experienced. The second way in which ideas give rise to one another is through Contiguity. Basically, contiguity suggests that thinking of one object inevitably leads one a discourse concerning the others. The third way Hume offers is that of Cause and Effect. This seems to be the most obvious of the three. When we think of a cause, we invariably envision its effect. When we imagine placing our hand on a hot stove, we generally accompany that idea with its perceived effect, i.e. getting burned. These principles, which Hume refers to as connexions , form the glue that bind all ideas together. After explaining where ideas come from, and how they connect to one another, Hume is now free to delve into the actual objects of human reason and enquiry. Here, Hume divides all the objects into two categories: Relations of Ideas and Matters of Fact.4 The first idea can be defined as those ideas that arise from pure logic, such as arithmetic and spatial

But the problem with this is that majority of the ruler chooses fear not according to all of Machiavelli s guidelines. Unfortunately it is humans nature to be greedy, rebellious and envious. So how does the ruler establish the authority without being feared by the people? The answer I believe is love. It is only through love that a ruler can gain people respect, servitude and obedience without stirring up the emotions of fear, anger and hatred. On the other hand the answer perhaps also lies in the social and cultural

  • 42. The Chesapeake Bay And The Bay The Chesapeake Bay, which derives from the Algonquin word Chesepiooc meaning great shellfish bay , has been around for a very long time. Approximately 35 million years ago, a rare bolide (a comet or asteroid like object) hit what is now the lower tip of the Delmarva Peninsula, creating a 55 mile wide crater. The bolide created what geologists call the Exmore Crater, which they believe was as large as Rhode Island and as deep as the Grand Canyon. Although this bolide did not create the Chesapeake Bay, it helped determine that a bay would eventually be located there. Today, the Chesapeake Bay stretches from Havre de Grace, Marylandto Norfolk Virginia. The Bay is approximately 200 miles long, up to 35 miles wide, and has an average ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Bay s salinity varies widely from season to season and from year to year, depending on the amount of fresh water flowing from its rivers. The Bay tends to be fresher in spring, when snow melts and heavy rainstorms frequently fall. During the drier months, the Bay is usually saltier. Salinity also increases with depth. Fresh water remains at the surface because it is less dense than salt water. The water on the Bay s eastern shore tends to be saltier than the water on the western side. This is due to two factors; most fresh water enters the Bay from its northern and western tributaries, and The Coriolis Force, a phenomenon caused by the earth s rotation, pushes flowing water in the Northern Hemisphere to the right, causing saltier water to move up the Bay veers toward the eastern shore. The Chesapeake Bay is the largest estuary in the United States. About half of the Bay s water volume comes from salt water from the Atlantic Ocean. The other half drains into the Bay from its enormous 64,000 square mile watershed. Estuaries are among the most productive environments on earth, creating more organic matter each year than similarly sized forests and agricultural areas. Estuaries also provide diverse habitats for wildlife and aquatic life, protect our communities against flooding, reduce pollution of waterways, and support local economies through commercial and recreational activities. The gyre is one of Yeats favorite motifs, the idea that history occurs in cycles, specifically cycles twenty centuries in length (Yeats, The Second Coming ln. 19). In this poem, Yeats predicts that the Christian era will soon give way apocalyptically to an era ruled by a godlike desert beast with the body of a lion and the head of a man (ln. 14). Other kinds of echoes, literary rather than poetic, emerge as well; Yeats connects The Second Coming with Shelley s Prometheus Unbound in lines 7 and 8, The best lack all conviction, while the worst/Are full of passionate intensity (Drake 53), and even, Jeffares suggests, the Divine Comedy, by altering the hawk of an earlier draft to more closely resemble the ample circuit of a falcon described in Dante s masterpiece (A Commentary 241). Yeats surely made these allusions to borrow the literary scale of these prophetic masterpieces. But far more important in this respect is his borrowings from the Bible. Most central and obvious are the Second Coming of Christ described in Matthew 24 and the beast of the apocalypse from Revelations, but Purdy also notes the vision chapters of Daniel (7 12), Isaiah s prophecy of the Day of the Lord (14.6 11, 19 22), old Ezekiel s cherubim (10.1ff), and Jeremiah s denunciation of Isreal (2) (75), not to mention Yeats location of the beast s birth at Bethlehem, the birthplace of Christ two thousand years ago (Jeffares, W. B. Yeats 38). The Bible is, of course, the western world s primary work of prophecy, and Yeats use of its language gives his own work a tone of prophecy.
