The Performance Measurement Of The Balanced Scorecard
Balanced Scorecard
A performance measurement tool
The balanced scorecard (BSC) is an extensively used performance measurement tool
introduced to take the strategy and vision of the business into real action from four
perspectives: financial, customers, internally progress and learning and grow. (Kaplan
and Norton, 1996) From all these four perspectives, it can be seen that this
measurement tool is different from others because it concentrates on both financial
and operational information rather than only financial figures which make the tool
provide a more comprehensive of the business to shareholders and customers. In these
years, BSC has developed from the performance measurement tool to a strategic
management system. ( Kaplan and Norton, 1996, p 37) However, this essay aims at
introducing the balanced scorecard as a performance measurement from its origins,
why business needs it, how it can be utilized, how the business can get benefits from
adopting this measurement tool and what potential problems and limits it has.
In the modern business world, intangible assets take a larger proportion than tangible
assets in the structure of total assets because the modern business tends to provide
service more than products and shareholders and customers pay more attention to the
intangible assets rather than tangible assets. However, the actual value of intangible
assets is difficult to calculate and present in the real business. In this situation, the
balanced scorecard is
Mattie And Zeena In Edith Wharton s Ethan Frome
In the novel Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton, the main character Ethan is heavily
influenced by the two women in his life, Mattie and Zeena. Both Mattie and Zeena
contribute to Ethan s choices and life. These two women are both very similar and
different as they share a common outcome but different traits. These two women
are physically different as stated throughout the novel. In the novel Zeena s
physical looks would be quoted in chapter 3, the pale light reflected from the banks
of snow made her face look more than usually drawn and bloodless, sharpened the
three parallel creases between ear and cheek, and drew querulous lines from her
thin nose to the corners of her mouth. Though she was but seven years her husband
s senior, and he was only twenty eight, she was already an old woman . This quote
shows that Zeena was of unpleasant looks and looked unattractive to Ethan. Mattie
on the other hand can be described as beautiful, in the novel it stated She stood just
as Zeena had stood, a lifted lamp in her hand, against the black background of the
kitchen. She held the light at the same level, and it drew out with the same
distinctness her slim young throat and the brown wrist no bigger than a child s.
Then, striking upward, it threw a lustrous fleck on her lips, edged her eyes with
velvet shade, and laid a milky whiteness above the black curve of her brows
(Chapter 3). This quote shows that Mattie, in Ethan s eyes and physically was
attractive. Mattie and Zeena are
Essay about Social Media s Affect on Mixed Martial Arts
Introduction
In this research proposal, we aim to discuss the role social media has on the growth
of Mixed Martial Arts. This study was chosen because there is no getting around the
fact that social media has changed the way we communicate and interact. The biggest
change is the sheer number of people using social media websites and the interaction
with each other.
The genre of MMA was chosen because it is a relatively new sport, but despite that,
it has been gaining grave amounts of publicity in the sporting world. Unlike other
long established, mainstream sports such as soccer and basketball, the sport of
MMA only commenced approximately 20 years ago, back in 1993. The power of
social media has revolutionised the way humans ... Show more content on

Although its negativity has simmered slightly throughout the years, it has not entirely
been gone.
With that said, I believe recent advancement of web 2.0 and social media has a huge
part to play in the rapid development of MMA. In this research proposal, we aim to
understand the different arguments and opinions of this topic. Some ideas may be
biased, but they stand firm to what they believe in.
Research topic and field
The main research in the literature review will be broken down into two different
fields, social media and MMA. For social media, we will look into the various
aspects of social media. Topics such as social media marketing, advertising and
how it integrates perfectly within a business organization will be covered. We will
also be covering the social media aspect of public relations and how it helps
organisations communicate with its public. As for MMA, we will understand and
study the history of MMA and how the sport has used social media to improve the
development of the sport. In the literature review, I would first start by giving a
brief history of MMA, how it all started, and subsequently go into the discourse of
social media; the marketing and advertising aspect, and how it has help the growth of
MMA.

Cultural Imperialism In America
America has always been imperialistic. The existence of an imperialist America is a
fact that cannot be denied. During the war between America and Spain, America
illustrated its imperialistic views when it prompted the government to establish a plan
to merge the remaining overseas territories: the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Guam.
Also, America has been in the process of converting their domestic industries into a
global empire, which has the potential to capture the world market, acquire natural
resources from foreign sources, and sell its surplus industrial agriculture. Overall,
America is imperialist and both historical and current events illustrate how America
upholds imperialism, which comes several forms including military, economic...

First of all, English, America s most widely spoken language, has become the world
s lingua franca, partially due to British imperialism but also because of American
cultural imperialism. It is an international language. In many countries such as
Philippines, they believe that English is superior and will provide more opportunities
than their mother language. The Philippines uses English in government, business,
education, etc. rather than Tagalog. It, along with countless other countries, has the
mentality that if its people do not learn English, they will fall behind in global
development. Travelers come everywhere over the world also use English as their
communication. Also, America s pop culture has achieved extreme popularity;
almost all of the food or drinks that people eat everyday comes from America, for
example, Starbucks, McDonald s, Coca Cola, and more. Starbucks has spread all
over the world and according to their website, there are more than 21,000 stores in 65
countries worldwide ( Starbucks Coffee International ). In addition, American
clothing brands and pop music are more prevalent than ever. With that being said,
American cultural imperialism is trying to spread America s ideals worldwide

Serena Williams Essay
Serena Williams, an American known Tennis player was born on September 26,
1981 in Saginaw, Michigan. Born to Richard and Oracene Williams, the youngest
out of five daughters; Serena and her sister Venus would grow to become one of
Tennis greatest champions. Her father whom was a former share cropper from
Louisiana moved his family to Compton, California although there was much gang
violence and drug lords but it was no accident. Richard Williams wanted his two
youngest daughters to be successful and put them in the middle of the city to show
them the ugly possibilities of life if they did not work hard and get an education.
Learning what he d gleaned from books of tennis, he would start training Venus and
Serena around the age of three, practicing on a court not far from their Compton
home. She entered in her first tournament at the age of four, and around the next 5
years she had already won around 46 out of 49 of her tournaments. By 1991, (10

walking on a wire higher than 10 stories high? A French wire walker named
Philippe Petit walked over many structures from Notre Dame to Sydney, Australia,

However, Petit and I think that there is nothing crazy about what he has done. I
believe the people/society thinks he is crazy. They see this man up hundreds of feet

for his kind of work, schooling, learning how to read animals, what they tend to do
when aggravated. Yes, he went after dangerous animals but he knew what he was
doing, just like Petit. It was a dangerous thing to be doing, but he was prepared to do

prepared for what he has done. Petit passed an evaluation to test if there was
something wrong with him. Also, because what he does is dangerous doesn t mean
he isn t right in the head. Just look at Steve Irwin and think twice before judging. He
brought entertainment to the people, inspiration that anything is possible. Petit is
just another human being that chased a dream, and accomplished his goal.

The Transportation Security Administration Is An Integral...
In our time, the Transportation Security Administration is an integral part of
airports in the United States. One cannot simply travel on a plane without going
through the metal detectors or being instructed to take off his or her shoes to check
for bombs. Many travelers regard the TSA to be a hassle, as it adds hours into the
process of boarding a flight. Some treat it as a necessary evil; they believe that the
presence of the TSA is needed to offset the vulnerable state of airports. However, the
need for safety does not mean that the TSA is completely justified. The
Transportation Security Administrationfails to do its job in serving the public. Its
policies and practices infringe on people s privacy, have questionable effectiveness,
and pose health risks, while its employees behave unprofessionally and have
inadequate training for their jobs. Alternative securitymeasures and internal reform
will help the Transportation Security Administration do its job better and raise public
opinion.
The year 2001 marked a radical shift in behavior at airports. Whereas before there
were few restrictions on baggage items, after the September 11 tragedy, the U.S.
government significantly tightened regulations regarding what could be taken on a
plane. Two months later, in November 2001, the Transportation Security
Administration was formed after the Aviation and Transportation Security Act was
passed through Congress. The Council on Foreign Relations, a nonprofit
organization, reported

Executive Summary
Introduction
The two purposes of this paper are first, to compare and contrast the business models
of Tesla and GM, and second, to explain how these companies provide value to their
consumers in the automotive market for electric cars.
Background
Although almost all automobiles today are primarily fueled by gasoline, the
market for electric cars is rapidly developing. Analysts from Bloomberg project that
electric vehicles [will account for] 35% of global new car sales by 2040. (Electric
Vehicles To Be, 2016). Two companies at the forefront of this push to create electric
vehicles are Tesla and GM. Tesla joined the electric automotive industryjust a few
years ago with its luxurious, fully electric vehicles, and has been the leader in the
field ever since. GM, on the other hand, has traditionally produced affordable
gasoline run cars for the middle class, and is now infiltrating the electric vehicle
market.
Value Propositions
GM s customer value proposition is to offer a variety of vehicle types with its well
established brand name at affordable prices. On the other hand, Tesla has focused on
providing advanced, lavish electric vehicles to high end consumers. As Tesla moves
into the market for more affordable vehicles with the launch of their Model 3, their
Well-Organized Government In Ancient Egypt
Introduction
The people of ancient Egypt started as hunters and gatherers. Then they settled in the
Nile river valley. When the people settled the food was more plentiful. And when the
food was more plentiful there were more. And with more people, they had to have all
of the seven indicators.
Government
Every complex society needs a well organized government. In ancient Egypt having a
well organized government was important. The pharaoh was the most important
person in the government. The Pharaoh was the supreme leader of all of ancient Egypt
, they even called him a god.The Pharaoh had so many things to do being a leader
/god that he needed help. So the Pharaoh decided who was the vizier(someone who

Ancient Egypt also had a complex religion that tied into well organized government.
The ancient Egyptians were deeply religious. The ancient Egyptians would never
worship without being purified. They also believed that their gods had
supernatural powers, and if they worshiped their gods they would live a happy and
long life. A way to worship gods is to pay tributes. They were so religious that they
built temples. They would also perform ceremonies so that ancient Egypt would
not fall into chaos. How does complex religion tie into well organized government?
Every government has a pharaoh and in the religious perspective, the pharaoh is
also a god. The people of ancient Egypt would treat him like a god and worshiped
him. They would pay tributes. And when he died they covered him in gold and
riches and everything he had before. According to ducksters.com, the people built
2 types of temples the first is cultus and the second is Mortuary the mortuary was
built for the dead pharaoh. So the pharaoh got his own temple built. The ancient
Egyptians worked a lot for their religion. The ancient Egyptians were the ones that
built the pyramids and that took a lot of work. So why did the ancient Egyptians
just slack and not to do it? Well because it was apart of their religion and they had
to do it. They also built the Sphinx for their gods and religion. The ancient Egyptians
also had big ceremonies that would take a lot of
The Strategy Of Risk Management
Banc One s overall strategy of risk management is to stay within a permissible
limit of earnings sensitivity. Based on the last meeting, it was decided that for 50
basis points increase (average over a year) in the interest rates, the level of earnings
change should not be more than 4%. Banc One also used a balancing portfolio for
assetliability management, which consisted of investments in conventional securities
and derivatives with an underlying mandate to achieve a reasonable rate of return,
fulfill short term liquidity needs, manage interestrate exposure, and maintain a modest
regulatory capital obligation. Also, Banc One has recently shifted its focus to
synthetic instruments owing several advantages these new securities present.
Specifically, Banc One aims to be liability sensitive i.e. have a negative earnings
sensitivity. This means that the earnings are depressed in a period of interest rate
increase. Having a controlled exposure to longer term fixed rate assets exceeding
shorter term floating rate liabilities, the bank can earn the interest rate spread. This
is because the yield curve is generally upward sloping, which implies that longer
term securities will have a higher yield compared to shorter term securities. However,
this leaves the bank exposed to interest rate risk when the yield curve has a large
upward shift (the interest income falls more than the interest expense, and the
earnings decline). This can, however, be controlled using investments and

However, after the 10 minute mark we can conclude that Green is feeling the fatigue
of lactic acid build up due to the fact that the peaks at the end of the 10 minute mark
looks unstable; his heart rate is immediately lowered after an intense action.
Therefore sufficient evidence can be analysed from the graph to support the
statement that, the build up of lactic acid affects the performance of the player,
limiting their capabilities. Recovery time is needed to compensate for the lactic acid
build up; which is the result of fatigue.
3.0 Recommendations Tactics / Strategies
As the St Mary s Open Touch Coach I must first understand the functions of energy
systems. Knowing how much a player can withstand a position on the field, before
their ATP and anaerobic glycolysisenergy system is depleted is essential for
success. To minimise as well as equalise work load, a strategy that can be used is
arrowing the side line a few times before splitting the ball to the other side. A
defensive strategy in touch, when an area is constantly being arrowed is for the
player to make the touch, while the player next to him commits the next touch... and
so forth. To maximise the performance of players, regular substitutions; especially
players In the middle should be made, taking into consideration that ATP is a short
burst of energy lasting for a maximum of 15 seconds and at least 2 minutes to
replenish,
Zero Tolerance Theory
The zero tolerance policies can be best described as, a philosophy or policy that
mandates the application of predetermined consequences, most often severe in nature,
that are intended to be applied regardless of the seriousness of behavior, mitigating
circumstances or situational context (Graham et al 2008 np) . There was a rise of the
zero tolerancepolicies that started with the scare of the war on drugs during the
1980s. There was this fear of copious amounts of drugs coming into the schools
along with the perceived rise of gang violence occurring in schools. This happened
alongside the boom in weapons coming to US, this prompted the federal government
to act. Schools in some states started to adopt the language of zero tolerance, which...

Many have researched to see if zero tolerance policies actually work. When looking
at these policies we have to recognize the tough decisions made by teachers and
school administers when it comes to school violence, but it is important to
recognize the gaps that exist within these policies that negatively affect students
and their communities. It is true that these policies aim to protect against intra
school violence, but the truth is that these policies often work in major punishment
for trivial offences (Skiba and Knesting 2001). The implementation of these
policies has become civil rights issues for both sides of the political spectrum,
organizations like the ACLU and the Rutherford Institute have both criticized the
policies and have defended students who are being negatively affected by this era
of discipline. Still, defenders of the policy believe this will still be the one cure all
for the growing trend in violence across America. Even though it is a common belief
about zero tolerance, it has been around for a couple of decades now and the
evidence does not support the common belief. With the question of: do zero tolerance
policies make schools safer? The answer is not necessarily. There is this common
misconception that booting problem students benefit the school. But it has been
tested that with the increase of zero tolerance discipline such as suspension and
expulsion does

When dealing with the hearty bed bug, pest control companies must often combine
several of their enemies to rid your home of the resilient critters. The heat needed
to make an impact on the eggs must exceed 120 degrees F and the cold temperature
needed to affect them must be below 0 degrees F, although these temperatures must
be held for hours or days to kill the bugs and eggs. Even when subjected to these
temperatures, some bed bugs and eggs simply will not die. However, chemical only
treatments alone, such as DIY bug bombs also fail. That is why a pesticide
combined with either extreme heat or extreme cold is the best option to give the
bugs and eggs a double whammy that they are less likely to survive. Following these
guidelines, pest control companies offer the following
Analysis Of Forster s Howard s End
Forster s Howard s End is in both content and form a novel of movement, instability
and flux. This is fundamentally due to the era in which it has been crafted, as British
society and its literary conventions were both radically revolutionising. Traditional
Edwardian values of class, family and property were thrown into chaos and emerging
existential preoccupations that would eventually be deemed Modernist gained
prevalence. Fundamentally, either to deem Howard s End an obviously modernist
text or one grappling with modernist issues in Edwardian style would be gross
oversimplification, belittling of the subtlety of Forster s ingenious craft. Instead, he
practises what Harrington Weihl calls limited modernism, in careful consideration of
the fragile liminal disposition of his readership. The novelfundamentally aims to
depict the effect of conflicting societal values and cultural shifts, while its form seeks
to reconcile narratives past with its inevitable future, tentatively innovating whilst still
referencing traditional technique. It is this considerate amalgamation of content and
form that makes it a text so exemplary of its unique era as well as in its own right.
The sense of flux, conflict and coalescence in form is gauged within the novels first
pages. A very traditional epistolary style is adopted only to be overtly abandoned in
six pages, calling into question Forster s position on modern literary techniques from
the outset. It is said Forster was already
Risks Of Risk And Risk Assessment
MANAGE RISK RISK ASSESSMENT
RISK ASSESSMENT it includes the following things identification, analysis and
evaluation.
a)identification Hazard ID includes figuring out which dangers or dangers are prone
to influence the venture. It includes the recognizable proof of dangers or dangers
that may prompt undertaking yields being deferred or diminished, expenses being
progressed or expanded and/or yield quality (wellness for reason for existing) being
lessened or traded off.
For most vast/complex undertakings, various abnormal state dangers ought to have
been recognized amid the task start stage these ought to be utilized as the premise for
a more intensive examination of the dangers confronting the venture This can be
done by brainstorm
, studying few business models before the start of venture, having a quick look few
risks registers that are maintained at other sites, and by working and gaining practical
experience. b) Analysis and evaluation When dangers have been recognized they
must be examined by deciding how they may influence the achievement of the
venture. By and large the effect of a danger will understand one or any mix of the
accompanying results:
Project results (advantages) are postponed or lessened
Project yield quality is diminished;
Timeframes are expanded;
Costs are increased
When examined, dangers ought to be assessed to focus the probability of a danger or
risk being acknowledged and

Throughout the literary works of The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, Maus by Art
Spiegelman, and Mother to Son by Langston Hughes, different characters deal with
adversity differently. In The Glass Castle the characters must overcome family
hardships. Likewise, Spiegelman writes about his father s struggle during the
Holocaust. Lastly, in Motherto Son the speaker informs her son about her own
hardships she had to face. Challenges that characters face can impact them both
negatively and positively. Characters from all three literary works deal with
adversity by having courage, being resilient, and making poor choices. The quality of
courage helps the characters overcome personal hardship. For example, Jeanette in

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Parasites
A parasite is defined as an organism that lives in or on another organism (host) to its
own advantage and to the disadvantage of the host. (1) Humans are surrounded by
parasites everyday bedbugs, head lice and threadworms, just to name a few! Some
parasites can cause serious harm; reducing vigour of the host, causing symptomatic
disease and even death. Nonetheless, some parasites can even be beautiful, for
example mistletoe. (Not the most romantic thing to kiss someone under, eh?). Or the
largest flower in the world, Rafflesia arnoldii, who obtains all its fixed carbon from
its host. (2) But enough of the prettiness! Let s get down to the gruesome, absurd
parasites of the world.
Some of the wackiest, weirdest parasites can be found in the ocean. There is such
thing as a tongue eating sex changing louse Cymothoa exigua, which is a fish
parasite that replaces the fishes tongue with itself! This organism enters the fish s
gills (usually red snappers) and latches on to its tongue. The parasite damages the
blood vessels of the tongue, causing it to eventually fall off. Cymothoa exigua
fastens itself to the muscle of the tongue butt, hereby enabling the fish to use the
parasite as a tongue! It is the only parasite known to replace an entire organ of its
host. (3)
The amazing thing about this parasite is its bizarre life cycle. It begins its life as a
male and matures in the gills. Once developed, it matures into a female and only the
female latches onto the tongue. Males

government which it uses to control its citizens. This includes the use of
propaganda, control of content, and ethnocentrism. The Party s methods of control
relates to real life events repeated in history such as the Nazi Regime from 1933 to
1945 headed by Adolf Hitler and common patterns in cultural history. Propaganda
has an effective psychological influence that works to promote a particular,
political view point. The government of Oceania uses propaganda to their
advantage to gain support of the Party s ideology. Similarly, Adolf Hitler used
propaganda during the Nazi reign on Germany to support the Nazi ideology. The
sole purpose of propaganda is to encourage a biased belief. For example in 1984
the way in which the Party has spread propaganda is through the use of posters: A
new poster had suddenly appeared all over London. It had no caption, and
represented the monstrous figure of a Eurasian soldier.. a submachine gun pointed
from his hip. From whatever angle you looked at the poster, the muzzle of the gun
magnified by the foreshortening, seemed to be pointed straight at you (Orwell, 149).
These posters were displayed throughout Airstrip One to depict the Eurasian soldier
as an antagonistic threat. The configuration of the poster pointing a gun at the viewer
is to encourage a negative response, thus promoting the goal of the Party. In history,
one can see how Hitler used propaganda to his
The Manifesto Of The Communist Party
In The Manifesto of the Communist Party, Marx and Engels elaborate a bold thesis
on the trajectory of history. Their argument is an important sociological step in social
and economic analysis but it fails to provide a convincing account.
Marx and Engels provide a telling account of the historical process of economic
and social change. They cogently examine the role that the rise of capitalistic
markets has had on the social order, exposing the shift of hierarchical distinctions
from lord and serf to owner and worker. As Marx and Engels attempt to define the
trajectory of history they looks at these issues from a high level of abstraction
which allows their major thesis about class conflict providing the basis for historical
change to take shape. With this strategy they are able to connect the rise of markets
with increasing globalization, colonialism, and commodification. Marx and Engels
ability to provide a cohesive base for such a wide breadth of phenomena helps to add
to the legitimacy of their argument. At the same time, their level of abstraction also
leads to obfuscation.
Marx and Engel s boldest claim is their prophetic description of revolution against the
bourgeoisie. Here, they provide an excellent theory to suggest that capitalist
production has inherent contradictions that erode its very foundation. But where
Marx and Engels fall short is in convincingly demonstrating that this contradiction of
capitalism will lead to a successful proletarian revolution. Indeed
Historical Analysis Of Of Beowulf s Poem, Beowulf, Sir...
The study of British literature is an incredible journey that begins with battles
against Anglo Saxon monsters and takes us on a journey to a time where writers
try to tackle modern problems. Along the way we come across characters such as
Beowulf, Sir Gawain, King Arthur and other legends who remain a vital part of
popular culture. History offers us a variety of heroes and legends that we can read
and learn about. The historical poem of Beowulf not only reveals to us the
importance cultural values of the warrior society, but also the importance of
literature. The warrior culture at this time reflects the values of the society of the
6th century. There are a couple of key features of Beowulf s characterization that
reflect what was important in Anglo Saxon society. For example. Beowulf comes
across as arrogant and bigheaded, but Anglo Saxon society valued the daring and
confident young man who was proud of his actions and could use his past
experiences and journeys to motivate himself toward future success. Our modern
world leans towards modesty rather than arrogance. Anglo Saxon society also
believed in a concept of revenge that resulted in a vicious cycle. If someone killed
one of your men, you were obligated to avenge their death, but then that group
could come back and avenge that death and so on. This is shown in Beowulf by the
killing of Grendel and then Grendel s mother seeking revenge. The only reason this
cycle was broken is because there wasn t anyone else to
Bullying School Shootings
Issue: If you or your child have ever been a victim of bullying then you know how
horrible one can feel. There are many emotions and fears associated with bullying,
and no one should have to be subjected to it. Bullying can have a lasting effect not
only in one s present life but their future as well. Bullying is very prominent in
schools today, and there has been an increase in school shootings, which is the
extreme reaction to being bullied. Children need to consider each other s feelings
before they decide to bully or pick on each other. Background: Many reports show
over the last decade, studies demonstrate that a bully culture dominates our schools.
In a 2005 national survey, 65 percent of teens reported having been verbally or

They then learn how not to act aggressively; however, there are those who are not
taught by an adult and continue with their aggressive behaviors (Rigby,
MyiLibrary, 2012). Cons * If you didn t act like such a faggot, you wouldn t be in
this predicament. This was a response from of a principal telling a male student
who attempted to self report being bullied. The principal failed to take the report
seriously and even failed to document the incident (Boske, Osanloo, 2015). * 28%
of children bullied in schools are 12 to 18 years old (Boske, Osanloo, 2015). There
is an urgency to better understand the immediate and long term impact bullying
may have on children s development because incidents may go unreported and the
impact of bullying is often unidentifiable or invisible. The concern lies knowing
most children spend at least 30 hours a week in school (Boske, Osanloo, 2015).
*Bullying is still prevalent today Bullying, continues to affect an estimated 50 80%
of young people. Approximately 16 children each year in the UK commit suicide as
a result of being bullied (Side, Johnson, 2014). In spite of decades of research and
more recent guidance by Government, bullying in schools remains a serious concern
to young people and educational Practitioners (Side, Johnson,
ATP And Cellular Respiration
1 ) What does ATP stand for?
ATP stands for adenosine triphosphate. It is a coenzyme that cells use to store
energy. Also ATP is present in all cell s cytoplasm and nucleus as well because it s
vital for proper life functions in plants and animals.
2 ) How many ATP molecules are produced by Cellular Respirationand by
Fermentation?
By Cellular Respiration there are 38 molecules that can be made per oxidized
glucose molecule: 2 from the Krebs cycle, 2 from glycolysis, and an average of 34
from the electron transport system. On the other hand Fermentation is less efficient
when using the energy from glucose , which is only 2 ATP produced per glucose.

The Pros And Cons Of Boredom
The two enemies of human happiness are pain and boredom, Arthur Schopenhauer, a
german philosopher. In the world today, a large majority of kids are occupied with
extracurricular activities, and when they aren t busy they use their electronic devices
as an alternative, some scientists believe that this is a way to keep us happy. As said
in the quote above, boredomis one of the worst enemies known to mankind, so why
not use other forms of entertainment as a way to keep us content? Around 1938,
physiologist Joseph Ephraim Barmack proved that we resort to other methods to
keep us happy by studying how factory workers dealt with the tedium of being
factory workers and the answer he found was quite disturbing. Barmack found that
they used caffeine,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
James Danckert, PhD, a professor of cognitive neuroscience at the University of
Waterloo, found that people highly prone to boredom perform poorly on tasks that
require sustained attention, and are more likely to show increased symptoms of
depression. This fact is significant in this debate because it substantiates that
boredom can ultimately put you at a greater risk of developing a mental disorder.
Nowadays, with depression stats on the rise, it is urgent that we take action to
prevent future occurrences of the life threatening disorder. After all, depression is a
serious matter and without the proper care for a depressed person, they could end
up seriously hurting themselves, and in extreme cases it can lead to death. A few
people have been interviewed since then and one lady said, ВЁsometimes I get
anxious when bored, mainly because I am not focused on anything, so my mind has
the freedom to over think bad thoughts and worries, which leads to panic attacks.ВЁ
This observation is necessary because it acknowledges that being bored doesnВґt
only cause depression, it has other serious disorders such as anxiety. In most cases
anxiety plays a big role in stress and depression, which may result in a loss of
appetite and frequent panic attacks. Is it really worth it to see people you know and
love endure that type of pain because it sparks their creativity, I think not. To
conclude, boredom has more effects than just the typical laziness, it can affect you
and/or your loved ones, potentially putting you or them in serious
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Accomplishments
This paper will cover Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky s life, starting with his childhood
and education, and how he grew up with music and how he pursued his interests. It
will also cover how Tchaikovsky started his career as a composer and the musical
aspects of his adult life. His personal life and how it shaped the way we see his
music will also be included. The purpose of this written assignment is to discuss
Tchaikovsky s life and why his music is so influential and revolutionary. His
compositions that were notable for its intense emotions and melodic inspiration is the
reason Tchaikovsky is regarded as a master composer.
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was born on May 7, 1840 in a small industrial town,
Kamsko Votkinsk, Vyatka, Russia
. He is the second oldest out of his parent s six
surviving children. His mother, Alexandra, was half French and father worked as a
mine inspector and metal works manager. Tchaikovsky was immersed into music
early in his life. His father would often play music on a rudimentary record player,
called an orchestrion. As a young boy, he was musically precocious. However, his
parents discouraged because they thought it would be unhealthy, seeing as
Tchaikovsky was already a neurotically excitable child. For instance, his mother ...

Torture In The Elizabethan Era
Have you ever thought of what it would be like to live in the Elizabethan Era? Let
me just say, it may not be as fun as it seems. In the Elizabethan Era, crimes were
punishable with grueling forms of torture that killed or severely hurt thousands of
criminals.
In the late 1500s and early 1600s, torture was a large part of everyday life and
although torture was not the only method, it was the most effective. Citizens of
Europe in the Elizabethan Era, you would most likely come across some very
terrifying forms of torture. Prisons did exist, but the main form of punishment used
was torture (Science Museum). There was a prison in the Elizabethan Era, but they
were mostly used for holding people with small debts or holding people until their ...

Certain actions that threatened the social order were considered crimes, and the
person that completed that action needed to be punished (Elizabethan World
Reference). If a citizen of Europe practiced a certain kind of religion that Queen
Elizabeth did not approve of, they were burnt to the stake. Being burnt to death
was one of the most painful deaths (Alchin). It took a long time to completely die,
so the criminal were still alive while being burnt (Alchin). If they were lucky, they
would suffocate from the smoke instead of having to live through being burnt
(Alchin). Another more serious crime, treason, was punishable by hanging
(Harrison). If someone were to betray their country, they would be hung
(Harrison). This death took a matter of seconds and was not as painful as being
burnt. Many subjects would jump before time so that their necks would break and
they died very quickly (Harrison). Another form of torture was boiling (Parry). It
is as bad as it sounds. If a citizen of Europe poisoned someone, they were to be
boiled to death (Parry). This was another way to die that caused lots of pain. Even
stealers were punished were hardly. Many had their right hand cut off so they could
not steal anymore, and there was not medicine so the wound usually became infected
and resulted in the death of the convict (Lestikow). All these forms of

Cost Accounting And Lean Management
Cost accounting is a process of recording, classifying, analyzing, summarizing
allocating and evaluating various alternative courses of action and control of costs.
Cost accounting involves the techniques for:
Determining the costs of products, processes, projects, etc. in order to report the
correct amounts on the financial statements, and
Assisting management in making decisions and in the planning and control of an
organization.
While cost accounting is often used within a company to aid in decision making,
financial accounting is what the outside investor community typically sees. Financial

Lean management looks for different ways to eliminate factors that waste time, effort
or money. This is achieved by analyzing a business process and then revising it or
cropping out any steps that do not create value for consumers. Lean Management
philosophy is based on the idea that organizations should set their strategies according
to what the consumers really value, systematically eliminating waste both within the
firm and along the process of supply chain. Many companies when implementing the
Lean Management ideology complains that traditional Management Accounting
Systems are unable to support their projects. At best, they are perceived as
bureaucratic tasks, and at worst, they are considered a key constraint to both the
acceptance and success of lean projects implemented in their organizations. The
failure of these traditional Management Accounting tools and techniques has led to

Positive And Negative Effects In Sports
Pom has positive and negative effects on an individual mentally, physically, and
emotionally. The effects can vary from team to team based on many different
variables. The mental effects can be things like stress and anxiety whereas the
physical effects can be more positive like staying in shape and being healthy.
Emotionally Pom induces lots of feelings such as fear, worry, excitement, and
delirium.
Mentally, Pom has more negative effects than positive. Pom puts a lot of stress on
students. Having practice three to six times a week also takes up a lot of time.
Having these frequent practices means that they have to find time to balance their
two totally different lifestyles. For one half of the day, they have to be a normal
student. They go to school and participate just like any other person in the room.
They receive the same amount of homework and stress yet they have twice as much
to do on their plate already. The other half of the day they perform strategic workouts
and bond with their teams as dancers. Scott Goldman is a licensed psychologist on
anxiety disorders related to engaging in sports. As a licensed psychologist working
in a number of sports at the collegiate level, I ve had the opportunity to interact with
all kinds of athletes, many of whom have experienced anxiety that has affected
their personal lives, their academic efforts, and their athletic performance. This is
not an uncommon experience. (Goldman). On the other hand, Pom can affect a
dancers mentality in positive ways as well. It can give a participant a new found
confidence whether it be inner or outer. Pom can help dancers to come out of their
personal shells not only while with their team and in the real world as well. They
become more outgoing and extroverted as a result of the way a dance team works. In
dance, if you do not communicate and talk with your teammates, the routine suffers.
Their newfound feeling of being unconstrained helps them to be more
communicative and approachable as well as being more social in their own lives
outside of dance. Some may find it to relieve physical insecurities such as weight as
well.
Dancers are in very outstanding physical shape due to their rigid workouts and strong
dance routines. The

The Importance Of Public Transportation
1.Tuesday, September 26, 2017 Today I took the SEPTA regional rail to work this
morning. While walking down the row of seats I found myself searching for the
seat without trash, or holes in the seat. While on my train ride I noticed by
surroundings. The vast amount of different people on the train amazed me. There
was an elderly gentleman on my right, and in the seat in front of me was a man who
did not have the most pleasant scent. Noticing people eating, coughing, or sleeping
and drooling on the window I quickly came to the realization of how many germs are
on this train. Things such as public transportplay a role in public healthsignificantly.
With all of the germs on public transportation people can pick up things easily. For
example, the measles outbreak that was in Disney World, could be picked up
through public transportation. People touching poles, seats, could pose the risk of
spreading many communicable diseases. I personally do not believe that public
transportation does a great job in the sanitation department. However, on the flip side
public transportation is also beneficial to public health. According to the APHA
people located near major highways and road ways have an increase in respiratory
illness due to the amount of pollution. Therefore, by taking public transportation such
as the train, or subway this reduces the amount of pollution causes by cars, trucks,
and other vehicles on the road.

STATEMENT OF ASSIGNMENT: Sam Kant has requested that our office represent
him in his defense against shoplifting charges.
FACTS: Our client, Sam Kant, was arrested for shoplifting at Bilmart, a national
department store. At his wife s request, Mr. Kant went to Bilmart on Wednesday,
October 20, 2008, and purchased a case of six 4 oz. cans of Hoover s Baked Beans
with Bacon. Upon returning home, his wife chastised him for once again failing to
purchase what she had requested. Apparently, Mrs. Kant can t stand the taste of
Hoover s Beans, but is very fond of the Handell s brand, and was planning to serve
them to her book club when she hosted them for lunch the following afternoon. Mrs.
Kant ordered her husband to return to Bilmart to exchange the Hoover s beans for
Handell s beans.
Upon arrival at the store early the next morning, Mr. Kant found that the line for
customer service was extremely long due to Bilmart s annual sponsorship of a major
community food drive. In an effort to save time, and thinking the line might be
shorter upon his return, Mr. Kant placed the case of Hoover s beans into a shopping
cart, made his way through the store to the bean shelf, and then added the case of
Handell s beans to the cart. However, upon his return, the line had not diminished and

Overview of the Mass Merchandiser Retail Industry
Introduction The two companies that I will be conducting my research on and
presenting will be in the Mass Merchandiser Retail Industry. I chose this industry
because of some of the basic knowledge that I acquired while working in the
Garment Industry before it was moved overseas. The two specific companies are:
Nike Inc. and the Dollar General Corporation. Regarding a general description of
the two firms I have selected, Nike serves the athletic and sports industry, and the
Nike Inc. brand is known for manufacturing not only sports gear but equipment as
well. Regarding the Dollar General Corporation, they have more than 7000 stores
nationwide, and Dollar General Corporation is a retailer of various house items
that caters to all low, middle and fixed income customers. For a brief conclusion,
both companies have been doing extremely well and have shown profit every year
for the last five years. They are both in the Fortune 500 Companies list. Operations
Strategy To give a bit more background detail, I would like to list both companies
operational strategies here. Operations strategy is the development of a long term
plan for using the major resources of the firm for a high degree of compatibility
between these resources the firm s long term corporate strategy. On May 5, 2010
NIKE unveiled one of its strategies key initiatives to achieve sustainable, long term
growth across its global portfolio of brands businesses. Their plan consists of a

Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were spies for the Soviet Union. They were citizens of
the United States and were convicted and executed for committing espionage. They
were secretly relaying information about technology and certain prototypes relating to
the atomic bombs. This is one of the most infamous cases of espionage.
Just nine days after Julius was arrested, United States Forces engaged in the Korean
War. It is important to understand not only how the Rosenbergs ended up in Sing
Sing Prison but also how the United States came to the swift conclusion of
sentencing the Rosenbergs to such a severe degree. This was, at the time, considered
the most costly and most consequential act of espionage in the Cold Warin the eyes
of the public. The media would repeatedly churn out loaded accusations, giving the
Rosenberg case the most worldwide interest since a trial a quarter of a century
before. There was much emphasis on how the couple was sentenced to death for a
new crime in a new age, the age of atomic destruction. The trial and harsh sentence
was partly due to the mass hysteria sweeping the United States. Everything involving
the Rosenbergs was accompanied by banner headlines. Understanding the atmosphere
of America during the trials vital in seeing Truman s effect on the Rosenberg s

The evolution of spaces travel began with early space explores utilized their eyes and
their minds to view and think about the heavens. An understanding of the movements
of the stars, moon and planets led to calendars that predicted seasons which was vital
to farming. The understanding of the heavens evolved from the religion enforced
Earthcentered universeto a heliocentric understanding in which the Earth and planets
revolved around the Sun. Meticulous observation and data recording by Brahe
enabled Kepler to mathematically devise three laws of elliptical planetary motion.
Galileo and Newton further developed the mathematics and physics of astrodynamics

Sexual Impacts And Influence Of The Mass Media
Mass media has become a vital source from which young millennials get their daily
substance of entertainment. The growth of media availability has intensified the
images and sounds appearing to the youth of this generation. With the massive
growth of media usage and music streaming amongst the youth, there has been more
sexual trends and influence of popular culture during this time. The presence of
sexual content in mediahas intensified and became more omnipresent within the past
decade. Mass mediaimages has been dominating public spaces with sexualised
representations and messages that are impossible to avoid (Buckingham, Willett,
Bragg, Russell, 2010; Burke, Gridley, Pham, 2008; Flood, 2009; Levin Kilbourne,
2008; Papadopoulos, 2010; Rush La. Nauze, 2006a, 2006b; Zurbriggen et al., 2007).
Especially with young girls relying on the media for constant trends, we often don t
consider what these messages and sounds are portraying. These advancements in
media have expanded enormously to the sexual content and musicappearing in media
and sites today. Previously conducted content analysis of selected media showed that
music contained at least 40% more sexual content than any other medium, with 15%
of music s sexual content focusing solely on intercourse or sexual content, compared
to a 3% and 4% focus within television and movies, respectively (Pardun, L Engle,
Brown, 2005).

  • 2. The Performance Measurement Of The Balanced Scorecard Balanced Scorecard A performance measurement tool The balanced scorecard (BSC) is an extensively used performance measurement tool introduced to take the strategy and vision of the business into real action from four perspectives: financial, customers, internally progress and learning and grow. (Kaplan and Norton, 1996) From all these four perspectives, it can be seen that this measurement tool is different from others because it concentrates on both financial and operational information rather than only financial figures which make the tool provide a more comprehensive of the business to shareholders and customers. In these years, BSC has developed from the performance measurement tool to a strategic management system. ( Kaplan and Norton, 1996, p 37) However, this essay aims at introducing the balanced scorecard as a performance measurement from its origins, why business needs it, how it can be utilized, how the business can get benefits from adopting this measurement tool and what potential problems and limits it has. In the modern business world, intangible assets take a larger proportion than tangible assets in the structure of total assets because the modern business tends to provide service more than products and shareholders and customers pay more attention to the intangible assets rather than tangible assets. However, the actual value of intangible assets is difficult to calculate and present in the real business. In this situation, the balanced scorecard is
  • 3. Mattie And Zeena In Edith Wharton s Ethan Frome In the novel Ethan Frome by Edith Wharton, the main character Ethan is heavily influenced by the two women in his life, Mattie and Zeena. Both Mattie and Zeena contribute to Ethan s choices and life. These two women are both very similar and different as they share a common outcome but different traits. These two women are physically different as stated throughout the novel. In the novel Zeena s physical looks would be quoted in chapter 3, the pale light reflected from the banks of snow made her face look more than usually drawn and bloodless, sharpened the three parallel creases between ear and cheek, and drew querulous lines from her thin nose to the corners of her mouth. Though she was but seven years her husband s senior, and he was only twenty eight, she was already an old woman . This quote shows that Zeena was of unpleasant looks and looked unattractive to Ethan. Mattie on the other hand can be described as beautiful, in the novel it stated She stood just as Zeena had stood, a lifted lamp in her hand, against the black background of the kitchen. She held the light at the same level, and it drew out with the same distinctness her slim young throat and the brown wrist no bigger than a child s. Then, striking upward, it threw a lustrous fleck on her lips, edged her eyes with velvet shade, and laid a milky whiteness above the black curve of her brows (Chapter 3). This quote shows that Mattie, in Ethan s eyes and physically was attractive. Mattie and Zeena are

This study was chosen because there is no getting around the fact that social media has changed the way we communicate and interact. The biggest change is the sheer number of people using social media websites and the interaction with each other. The genre of MMA was chosen because it is a relatively new sport, but despite that, it has been gaining grave amounts of publicity in the sporting world. Unlike other long established, mainstream sports such as soccer and basketball, the sport of MMA only commenced approximately 20 years ago, back in 1993. The power of social media has revolutionised the way humans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With that said, I believe recent advancement of web 2.0 and social media has a huge part to play in the rapid development of MMA. In this research proposal, we aim to understand the different arguments and opinions of this topic. Some ideas may be biased, but they stand firm to what they believe in. Research topic and field The main research in the literature review will be broken down into two different fields, social media and MMA. For social media, we will look into the various aspects of social media. Topics such as social media marketing, advertising and how it integrates perfectly within a business organization will be covered. We will also be covering the social media aspect of public relations and how it helps organisations communicate with its public. As for MMA, we will understand and study the history of MMA and how the sport has used social media to improve the development of the sport. In the literature review, I would first start by giving a brief history of MMA, how it all started, and subsequently go into the discourse of social media; the marketing and advertising aspect, and how it has help the growth of MMA. • 5. Cultural Imperialism In America America has always been imperialistic. The existence of an imperialist America is a fact that cannot be denied. During the war between America and Spain, America illustrated its imperialistic views when it prompted the government to establish a plan to merge the remaining overseas territories: the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Guam. Also, America has been in the process of converting their domestic industries into a global empire, which has the potential to capture the world market, acquire natural resources from foreign sources, and sell its surplus industrial agriculture. First of all, English, America s most widely spoken language, has become the world s lingua franca, partially due to British imperialism but also because of American cultural imperialism. The Philippines uses English in government, business, education, etc. rather than Tagalog. He prepared for his kind of work, schooling, learning how to read animals, what they tend to do when aggravated. Yes, he went after dangerous animals but he knew what he was doing, just like Petit. It was a dangerous thing to be doing, but he was prepared to do so. So no, Philippe Petit isn t crazy, just well managed, well trained, and well prepared for what he has done. Petit passed an evaluation to test if there was something wrong with him. Also, because what he does is dangerous doesn t mean he isn t right in the head. Just look at Steve Irwin and think twice before judging. He brought entertainment to the people, inspiration that anything is possible. Petit is just another human being that chased a dream, and accomplished his goal. Works Cited Man on Wire. Dir.James Marsh. Perf. Philippe Petit. Magnolia Home Entertainment, 2008.

One cannot simply travel on a plane without going through the metal detectors or being instructed to take off his or her shoes to check for bombs. Many travelers regard the TSA to be a hassle, as it adds hours into the process of boarding a flight. Some treat it as a necessary evil; they believe that the presence of the TSA is needed to offset the vulnerable state of airports. However, the need for safety does not mean that the TSA is completely justified. The Transportation Security Administrationfails to do its job in serving the public. Its policies and practices infringe on people s privacy, have questionable effectiveness, and pose health risks, while its employees behave unprofessionally and have inadequate training for their jobs. Alternative securitymeasures and internal reform will help the Transportation Security Administration do its job better and raise public opinion. The year 2001 marked a radical shift in behavior at airports. Whereas before there were few restrictions on baggage items, after the September 11 tragedy, the U.S. government significantly tightened regulations regarding what could be taken on a plane. Two months later, in November 2001, the Transportation Security Administration was formed after the Aviation and Transportation Security Act was passed through Congress. • 12. The Strategy Of Risk Management Banc One s overall strategy of risk management is to stay within a permissible limit of earnings sensitivity. Based on the last meeting, it was decided that for 50 basis points increase (average over a year) in the interest rates, the level of earnings change should not be more than 4%. Banc One also used a balancing portfolio for assetliability management, which consisted of investments in conventional securities and derivatives with an underlying mandate to achieve a reasonable rate of return, fulfill short term liquidity needs, manage interestrate exposure, and maintain a modest regulatory capital obligation. Also, Banc One has recently shifted its focus to synthetic instruments owing several advantages these new securities present. Specifically, Banc One aims to be liability sensitive i.e. have a negative earnings sensitivity. This means that the earnings are depressed in a period of interest rate increase. Having a controlled exposure to longer term fixed rate assets exceeding shorter term floating rate liabilities, the bank can earn the interest rate spread. This is because the yield curve is generally upward sloping, which implies that longer term securities will have a higher yield compared to shorter term securities. However, this leaves the bank exposed to interest rate risk when the yield curve has a large upward shift (the interest income falls more than the interest expense, and the earnings decline). This can, however, be controlled using investments and

Zero Tolerance Theory The zero tolerance policies can be best described as, a philosophy or policy that mandates the application of predetermined consequences, most often severe in nature, that are intended to be applied regardless of the seriousness of behavior, mitigating circumstances or situational context (Graham et al 2008 np) . There was a rise of the zero tolerancepolicies that started with the scare of the war on drugs during the 1980s. There was this fear of copious amounts of drugs coming into the schools along with the perceived rise of gang violence occurring in schools. When looking at these policies we have to recognize the tough decisions made by teachers and school administers when it comes to school violence, but it is important to recognize the gaps that exist within these policies that negatively affect students and their communities. It is true that these policies aim to protect against intra school violence, but the truth is that these policies often work in major punishment for trivial offences (Skiba and Knesting 2001). The implementation of these policies has become civil rights issues for both sides of the political spectrum, organizations like the ACLU and the Rutherford Institute have both criticized the policies and have defended students who are being negatively affected by this era of discipline. Still, defenders of the policy believe this will still be the one cure all for the growing trend in violence across America. Even though it is a common belief about zero tolerance, it has been around for a couple of decades now and the evidence does not support the common belief. With the question of: do zero tolerance policies make schools safer? The answer is not necessarily. There is this common misconception that booting problem students benefit the school. But it has been tested that with the increase of zero tolerance discipline such as suspension and expulsion does

  • 18. Analysis Of Forster s Howard s End Forster s Howard s End is in both content and form a novel of movement, instability and flux. This is fundamentally due to the era in which it has been crafted, as British society and its literary conventions were both radically revolutionising. Traditional Edwardian values of class, family and property were thrown into chaos and emerging existential preoccupations that would eventually be deemed Modernist gained prevalence. Fundamentally, either to deem Howard s End an obviously modernist text or one grappling with modernist issues in Edwardian style would be gross oversimplification, belittling of the subtlety of Forster s ingenious craft. Instead, he practises what Harrington Weihl calls limited modernism, in careful consideration of the fragile liminal disposition of his readership. The novelfundamentally aims to depict the effect of conflicting societal values and cultural shifts, while its form seeks to reconcile narratives past with its inevitable future, tentatively innovating whilst still referencing traditional technique. It is this considerate amalgamation of content and form that makes it a text so exemplary of its unique era as well as in its own right. The sense of flux, conflict and coalescence in form is gauged within the novels first pages. A very traditional epistolary style is adopted only to be overtly abandoned in six pages, calling into question Forster s position on modern literary techniques from the outset. It is said Forster was already

(1) Humans are surrounded by parasites everyday bedbugs, head lice and threadworms, just to name a few! Some parasites can cause serious harm; reducing vigour of the host, causing symptomatic disease and even death. Nonetheless, some parasites can even be beautiful, for example mistletoe. (Not the most romantic thing to kiss someone under, eh?). Or the largest flower in the world, Rafflesia arnoldii, who obtains all its fixed carbon from its host. (2) But enough of the prettiness! Let s get down to the gruesome, absurd parasites of the world. Some of the wackiest, weirdest parasites can be found in the ocean. There is such thing as a tongue eating sex changing louse Cymothoa exigua, which is a fish parasite that replaces the fishes tongue with itself! This organism enters the fish s gills (usually red snappers) and latches on to its tongue. The parasite damages the blood vessels of the tongue, causing it to eventually fall off. Cymothoa exigua fastens itself to the muscle of the tongue butt, hereby enabling the fish to use the parasite as a tongue! It is the only parasite known to replace an entire organ of its host. This includes the use of propaganda, control of content, and ethnocentrism. The Party s methods of control relates to real life events repeated in history such as the Nazi Regime from 1933 to 1945 headed by Adolf Hitler and common patterns in cultural history. Propaganda has an effective psychological influence that works to promote a particular, political view point. The government of Oceania uses propaganda to their advantage to gain support of the Party s ideology. Similarly, Adolf Hitler used propaganda during the Nazi reign on Germany to support the Nazi ideology. The sole purpose of propaganda is to encourage a biased belief. For example in 1984 the way in which the Party has spread propaganda is through the use of posters: A new poster had suddenly appeared all over London. It had no caption, and represented the monstrous figure of a Eurasian soldier.. a submachine gun pointed from his hip. From whatever angle you looked at the poster, the muzzle of the gun magnified by the foreshortening, seemed to be pointed straight at you (Orwell, 149). The configuration of the poster pointing a gun at the viewer is to encourage a negative response, thus promoting the goal of the Party. In history, one can see how Hitler used propaganda to his

Their argument is an important sociological step in social and economic analysis but it fails to provide a convincing account. Marx and Engels provide a telling account of the historical process of economic and social change. They cogently examine the role that the rise of capitalistic markets has had on the social order, exposing the shift of hierarchical distinctions from lord and serf to owner and worker. As Marx and Engels attempt to define the trajectory of history they looks at these issues from a high level of abstraction which allows their major thesis about class conflict providing the basis for historical change to take shape. With this strategy they are able to connect the rise of markets with increasing globalization, colonialism, and commodification. Marx and Engels ability to provide a cohesive base for such a wide breadth of phenomena helps to add to the legitimacy of their argument. At the same time, their level of abstraction also leads to obfuscation. Marx and Engel s boldest claim is their prophetic description of revolution against the bourgeoisie. Here, they provide an excellent theory to suggest that capitalist production has inherent contradictions that erode its very foundation. But where Marx and Engels fall short is in convincingly demonstrating that this contradiction of capitalism will lead to a successful proletarian revolution. Indeed

The study of British literature is an incredible journey that begins with battles against Anglo Saxon monsters and takes us on a journey to a time where writers try to tackle modern problems. Along the way we come across characters such as Beowulf, Sir Gawain, King Arthur and other legends who remain a vital part of popular culture. History offers us a variety of heroes and legends that we can read and learn about. The historical poem of Beowulf not only reveals to us the importance cultural values of the warrior society, but also the importance of literature. The warrior culture at this time reflects the values of the society of the 6th century. There are a couple of key features of Beowulf s characterization that reflect what was important in Anglo Saxon society. For example. Beowulf comes across as arrogant and bigheaded, but Anglo Saxon society valued the daring and confident young man who was proud of his actions and could use his past experiences and journeys to motivate himself toward future success. Our modern world leans towards modesty rather than arrogance. Anglo Saxon society also believed in a concept of revenge that resulted in a vicious cycle. If someone killed one of your men, you were obligated to avenge their death, but then that group could come back and avenge that death and so on. This is shown in Beowulf by the killing of Grendel and then Grendel s mother seeking revenge. The only reason this cycle was broken is because there wasn t anyone else to

James Danckert, PhD, a professor of cognitive neuroscience at the University of Waterloo, found that people highly prone to boredom perform poorly on tasks that require sustained attention, and are more likely to show increased symptoms of depression. This fact is significant in this debate because it substantiates that boredom can ultimately put you at a greater risk of developing a mental disorder. Nowadays, with depression stats on the rise, it is urgent that we take action to prevent future occurrences of the life threatening disorder. After all, depression is a serious matter and without the proper care for a depressed person, they could end up seriously hurting themselves, and in extreme cases it can lead to death. A few people have been interviewed since then and one lady said, ВЁsometimes I get anxious when bored, mainly because I am not focused on anything, so my mind has the freedom to over think bad thoughts and worries, which leads to panic attacks.ВЁ This observation is necessary because it acknowledges that being bored doesnВґt only cause depression, it has other serious disorders such as anxiety. In most cases anxiety plays a big role in stress and depression, which may result in a loss of appetite and frequent panic attacks. Is it really worth it to see people you know and love endure that type of pain because it sparks their creativity, I think not. To conclude, boredom has more effects than just the typical laziness, it can affect you and/or your loved ones, potentially putting you or them in serious

If someone were to betray their country, they would be hung (Harrison). This death took a matter of seconds and was not as painful as being burnt. Many subjects would jump before time so that their necks would break and they died very quickly (Harrison). Another form of torture was boiling (Parry). It is as bad as it sounds. If a citizen of Europe poisoned someone, they were to be boiled to death (Parry). This was another way to die that caused lots of pain. Even stealers were punished were hardly. Many had their right hand cut off so they could not steal anymore, and there was not medicine so the wound usually became infected and resulted in the death of the convict (Lestikow). • 33. Meet Up Research Paper Back in June I got a text from Ruby creator of Brown Girl With A Camera, asking if I would help her plan a meetup in NYC in August. I jumped at the chance because I m all about helping and supporting fellow entrepreneurs. I want us all to win! Plus, Brown Girl With A Camera s mission is awesome read about it here. August is always a busy month for me. Especially this august I had two weddings and my 4 year wedding anniversary. The only date I had available was August 29th. Ruby and I agreed on a date. I got off the phone and got right to work. I ve hosted art exhibits, women s empowerment events but never a meet up. This meet up was an excellent opportunity not only for the photographers models attending to build their portfolios but also an a chance for everyone to network, build friendships and cultivate a sisterhood. I ve said it once before and I will say it again. Photography is mainly dominated by males. Anytime I can get together with a group female photographers, share knowledge, experiences with women that are going through the same things that I am and just vibe it s a good time. My goal was for everyone to leave the meet up confident, inspired and hopefully with new skills. YUP.... this meet up was going to be awesome! Once I had my vision for the meet up down. I called two of my favorite make up artists Nicole Summers of Nozzie by Nicole Make Up Artistry and Melisa Martin of Mema Creations Make up Artistry. Now that I had the make up team locked in it was

Cost Accounting And Lean Management Cost accounting is a process of recording, classifying, analyzing, summarizing allocating and evaluating various alternative courses of action and control of costs. Cost accounting involves the techniques for: Determining the costs of products, processes, projects, etc. in order to report the correct amounts on the financial statements, and Assisting management in making decisions and in the planning and control of an organization. While cost accounting is often used within a company to aid in decision making, financial accounting is what the outside investor community typically sees. It is a continuous effort to improve products, services, or processes, which require incremental improvement over time in order to increase the quality and efficiency of the process. Lean management looks for different ways to eliminate factors that waste time, effort or money. This is achieved by analyzing a business process and then revising it or cropping out any steps that do not create value for consumers. Lean Management philosophy is based on the idea that organizations should set their strategies according to what the consumers really value, systematically eliminating waste both within the firm and along the process of supply chain. Many companies when implementing the Lean Management ideology complains that traditional Management Accounting Systems are unable to support their projects. At best, they are perceived as bureaucratic tasks, and at worst, they are considered a key constraint to both the acceptance and success of lean projects implemented in their organizations. The failure of these traditional Management Accounting tools and techniques has led to management consultancies in coming up with and developing a few range of Lean Accounting

The effects can vary from team to team based on many different variables. The mental effects can be things like stress and anxiety whereas the physical effects can be more positive like staying in shape and being healthy. Emotionally Pom induces lots of feelings such as fear, worry, excitement, and delirium. Mentally, Pom has more negative effects than positive. Pom puts a lot of stress on students. Having practice three to six times a week also takes up a lot of time. Having these frequent practices means that they have to find time to balance their two totally different lifestyles. For one half of the day, they have to be a normal student. They go to school and participate just like any other person in the room. They receive the same amount of homework and stress yet they have twice as much to do on their plate already. The other half of the day they perform strategic workouts and bond with their teams as dancers. Scott Goldman is a licensed psychologist on anxiety disorders related to engaging in sports. As a licensed psychologist working in a number of sports at the collegiate level, I ve had the opportunity to interact with all kinds of athletes, many of whom have experienced anxiety that has affected their personal lives, their academic efforts, and their athletic performance. This is not an uncommon experience. (Goldman). On the other hand, Pom can affect a dancers mentality in positive ways as well. It can give a participant a new found confidence whether it be inner or outer. Pom can help dancers to come out of their personal shells not only while with their team and in the real world as well. They become more outgoing and extroverted as a result of the way a dance team works. In dance, if you do not communicate and talk with your teammates, the routine suffers. Their newfound feeling of being unconstrained helps them to be more communicative and approachable as well as being more social in their own lives outside of dance. Some may find it to relieve physical insecurities such as weight as well. Dancers are in very outstanding physical shape due to their rigid workouts and strong dance routines. The

The properties of these two natural products will also be studied. For this experiment to happen a steam distillation and extraction of a weak organic acid will be used to isolate two natural products (limarene eugenol) classification test will be used to provide the evidence for some functionality present in these structures. Limonene has a pleasant scent, its water insoluble oil that s found in many plants (Organic Chemistry Experiment 2017). Limonene is spotted in concentrations in the range to 9700ppm which is 0.97% by weight in peels of citrus fruits (Organic Chemistry Experiment2017). For this lab Limonene was obtained by the steam distillation of orange peels and dichloromethane extraction of the orange peel. For eugenol a spicy smelling phenol which is the main constituent of oil of cloves (Organic Chemistry Experiment 2017). Eugenol is widely used as dental analgesic, that s the smell of the dentist office. For this lab, eugenol will be obtained by a base extraction of clove oil. Isolation of Eugenol: To start the experiment dichloromethane was extracted from 20ml of dichloromethane of clove oil by using two 15ml portions of 3M NaOH. Water was added to make the layers separate from each other. Dichloromethane was at the bottom and the aqueous on top. Then the aqueous layers were combined and 6M

While walking down the row of seats I found myself searching for the seat without trash, or holes in the seat. While on my train ride I noticed by surroundings. The vast amount of different people on the train amazed me. There was an elderly gentleman on my right, and in the seat in front of me was a man who did not have the most pleasant scent. Noticing people eating, coughing, or sleeping and drooling on the window I quickly came to the realization of how many germs are on this train. Things such as public transportplay a role in public healthsignificantly. With all of the germs on public transportation people can pick up things easily. For example, the measles outbreak that was in Disney World, could be picked up through public transportation. People touching poles, seats, could pose the risk of spreading many communicable diseases. I personally do not believe that public transportation does a great job in the sanitation department. However, on the flip side public transportation is also beneficial to public health. According to the APHA people located near major highways and road ways have an increase in respiratory illness due to the amount of pollution. Therefore, by taking public transportation such as the train, or subway this reduces the amount of pollution causes by cars, trucks, and other vehicles on the road. 2.Wednesday, September 27th, 2017 Everyday I try to

Sam Kant OFFICE FILE NUMBER:HQ 22467 DOCKET NUMBER:09HQ9456 STATEMENT OF ASSIGNMENT: Sam Kant has requested that our office represent him in his defense against shoplifting charges. FACTS: Our client, Sam Kant, was arrested for shoplifting at Bilmart, a national department store. At his wife s request, Mr. Kant went to Bilmart on Wednesday, October 20, 2008, and purchased a case of six 4 oz. cans of Hoover s Baked Beans with Bacon. Upon returning home, his wife chastised him for once again failing to purchase what she had requested. Apparently, Mrs. Kant can t stand the taste of Hoover s Beans, but is very fond of the Handell s brand, and was planning to serve them to her book club when she hosted them for lunch the following afternoon. Mrs. Kant ordered her husband to return to Bilmart to exchange the Hoover s beans for Handell s beans. Upon arrival at the store early the next morning, Mr. Kant found that the line for customer service was extremely long due to Bilmart s annual sponsorship of a major community food drive. In an effort to save time, and thinking the line might be shorter upon his return, Mr. Kant placed the case of Hoover s beans into a shopping cart, made his way through the store to the bean shelf, and then added the case of Handell s beans to the cart. However, upon his return, the line had not diminished and it
  • 39. Overview of the Mass Merchandiser Retail Industry Introduction The two companies that I will be conducting my research on and presenting will be in the Mass Merchandiser Retail Industry. I chose this industry because of some of the basic knowledge that I acquired while working in the Garment Industry before it was moved overseas. The two specific companies are: Nike Inc. and the Dollar General Corporation. Regarding a general description of the two firms I have selected, Nike serves the athletic and sports industry, and the Nike Inc. brand is known for manufacturing not only sports gear but equipment as well. Regarding the Dollar General Corporation, they have more than 7000 stores nationwide, and Dollar General Corporation is a retailer of various house items that caters to all low, middle and fixed income customers. For a brief conclusion, both companies have been doing extremely well and have shown profit every year for the last five years. They are both in the Fortune 500 Companies list. Operations Strategy To give a bit more background detail, I would like to list both companies operational strategies here. Operations strategy is the development of a long term plan for using the major resources of the firm for a high degree of compatibility between these resources the firm s long term corporate strategy. On May 5, 2010 NIKE unveiled one of its strategies key initiatives to achieve sustainable, long term growth across its global portfolio of brands businesses. Their plan consists of a revenue target of 27

They were citizens of the United States and were convicted and executed for committing espionage. They were secretly relaying information about technology and certain prototypes relating to the atomic bombs. This is one of the most infamous cases of espionage. Just nine days after Julius was arrested, United States Forces engaged in the Korean War. It is important to understand not only how the Rosenbergs ended up in Sing Sing Prison but also how the United States came to the swift conclusion of sentencing the Rosenbergs to such a severe degree. This was, at the time, considered the most costly and most consequential act of espionage in the Cold Warin the eyes of the public. The media would repeatedly churn out loaded accusations, giving the Rosenberg case the most worldwide interest since a trial a quarter of a century before. There was much emphasis on how the couple was sentenced to death for a new crime in a new age, the age of atomic destruction. The trial and harsh sentence was partly due to the mass hysteria sweeping the United States. Everything involving the Rosenbergs was accompanied by banner headlines. Understanding the atmosphere of America during the trials vital in seeing Truman s effect on the Rosenberg s sentence. In 1950, there was deep mistrust among the public. Americans looked to Truman as a source of strength. He was the
  • 41. Space Research Paper The evolution of spaces travel began with early space explores utilized their eyes and their minds to view and think about the heavens. An understanding of the movements of the stars, moon and planets led to calendars that predicted seasons which was vital to farming. The understanding of the heavens evolved from the religion enforced Earthcentered universeto a heliocentric understanding in which the Earth and planets revolved around the Sun. Meticulous observation and data recording by Brahe enabled Kepler to mathematically devise three laws of elliptical planetary motion. Galileo and Newton further developed the mathematics and physics of astrodynamics and motion. Einstein related mass and energy with the speed of light in his famous equation e=mc2. These advancements provided the basis for space mission planning and execution. Rockets were invented by the Chinese, who used gunpowder in bamboo shoots (Florida Space Research Institute 2002). The growth of media availability has intensified the images and sounds appearing to the youth of this generation. With the massive growth of media usage and music streaming amongst the youth, there has been more sexual trends and influence of popular culture during this time. The presence of sexual content in mediahas intensified and became more omnipresent within the past decade. Mass mediaimages has been dominating public spaces with sexualised representations and messages that are impossible to avoid (Buckingham, Willett, Bragg, Russell, 2010; Burke, Gridley, Pham, 2008; Flood, 2009; Levin Kilbourne, 2008; Papadopoulos, 2010; Rush La. Nauze, 2006a, 2006b; Zurbriggen et al., 2007). Especially with young girls relying on the media for constant trends, we often don t consider what these messages and sounds are portraying. These advancements in media have expanded enormously to the sexual content and musicappearing in media and sites today. Previously conducted content analysis of selected media showed that music contained at least 40% more sexual content than any other medium, with 15% of music s sexual content focusing solely on intercourse or sexual content, compared to a 3% and 4% focus within television and movies, respectively (Pardun, L Engle, Brown, 2005). Adolescents in the United States spend six to seven hours a day with some form of media,
