Writing an essay on the topic "How To Write An Essay Introduction Example" may initially
seem paradoxical. It involves a certain level of self-awareness, as you find yourself caught in a
recursive loop—attempting to exemplify the very essence of what you're discussing. Crafting
an introduction about crafting introductions requires a delicate balance between providing
insightful guidance and avoiding the risk of becoming overly meta.
The challenge lies in avoiding the pitfalls of becoming too convoluted or repetitive. It's easy to
fall into the trap of overthinking and overanalyzing each sentence, trying to exemplify every
piece of advice you provide. Striking the right balance between theory and practical application
is crucial, ensuring that the reader gains not only conceptual understanding but also tangible
skills.
Furthermore, maintaining a sense of originality becomes challenging, as the subject matter
inherently revolves around a well-trodden territory. Finding fresh angles and innovative
approaches to presenting the information becomes a daunting task, especially when the very
subject matter encourages a level of predictability.
Despite these challenges, writing such an essay can be a rewarding experience. It forces
introspection into one's writing process, offering an opportunity for self-improvement. However,
it's essential to navigate the fine line between insightful analysis and self-indulgence, ensuring

2. How Did The Great Depression Impact On Society
The Great Depression was a great economic breakdown, from buying on credit to
the stock market crash, which lead to bank failures and people in the streets with no
jobs or money to support their families. This depression would spread throughout the
nation and the world, giving a growing enemy in Europe, the advantage he needed.
After World War I, America celebrated and the Roaring 20 s was underway. People
were cheerful and happily celebrating for many days and nights. However, during this
time buying on credit made a huge impact on the community. People didn t take their
future into consideration, and soon started buying items they didn t have the money
for, so the installment system was created so people could pay their debts over time.
But soon the Stock Market crashed on October 29,1929 and the installment system
went down with it. Now that they couldn t pay for their items, they felt worried and
pressured knowing that they could lose their home and everything they possessed.
Two months later the stockholders... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

His number one priority was to fix the banks. He did this by creating National Bank

so Roosevelt made the 2nd New Deal to assure them and to provide hope to recover

KIA, which means arise from Asia in Korean, started out making bicycles prior to

manufacturing of steel bicycle tubing into a multi national corporation producing cars
and trucks. Prior to merging with Hyundai in 1998, Kia was the second largest

Using these criteria, South Korea and Kia have a distinct disadvantage on the world

Demand Conditions The demand conditions in South Korea have been
unparalleled in other countries in recent history. In 1963, the per capita Gross
National Product (GNP) was $100. This has grown to $20,000 per capita and
South Korea is now the seventh largest trading partner with the United States
(Background Note: South Korea, 2008). This growth in GNP is staggering
considering that it took the United States 130 years to grow its Gross Domestic
Product ten fold (1870 200) (Barro, 2003). Barro (2003) notes that this growth is
fairly evenly distributed. This distribution of income has remained relatively
unchanged from 1960 to today (Barro, 2003). Life expectancy and infant mortality
indicators have also significantly changed. Life expectancy has increased from 54
years to 73 years and infant mortality has dropped from 8% to 0.8% since 1960
(Barro, 2003). This rapid growth and increase in personal income has led to a
significant growth in internal demand for automobiles. According to a study
conducted by AC Nielson, who developed an Aspiration Index (AI) to measure
current ownership levels and future intentions to buy, over 60% of those surveyed
indicated an intention to buy. This is compared to the same index in the United
States of less than 30% (Consumers in Asia Pacific Car Ownership and Our Purchase
4. Industrial Psychology Essay
INTRODUCTION Industrial psychology is concerned with people at work. It is also
called personnel psychology. A closely related field is known as organizational
psychology. Traditionally, industrial psychologists have assessed differences among
individual workers and have evaluated individual jobs. Organizational psychologists
generally seek to understand how workers function in an organization, and how the
organization functions in society. The distinctions between industrial psychology and
organizational psychology are not always clear. Thus, the two areas are often referred
to jointly as industrial/organizational psychology, or I/O psychology. I/O
psychologists work for businesses, consulting firms, government departments, and...

To have value, a system should maximize the accuracy with which people rate
performance, and minimize bias. Industrial psychologists commonly develop training
programs. This function involves identifying performance or technical needs of
employees that can be met by training. It also deals with evaluating the effectiveness
of the training program. Training needs may include ways to (1) help new employees
get used to the organization, (2) update technical skills of current employees, and (3)
prepare employees for new responsibilities. Techniques used in training include
classroom lectures, work simulators, computer assisted instruction, and role playing.
Industrial psychologists devote much time to job satisfaction. They investigate
factors that have been found to relate to satisfaction, including employee turnover,
absenteeism, age, pay, and attitudes toward unions. Industrial psychologists also
study motivation because evidence suggests that both motivation and ability are
necessary for employees to succeed in their jobs. Thus, psychologists develop
systems for rewarding good performance, and they redesign jobs for greater interest
and challenge. Another important concern of industrial psychologists is what makes
an effective leader. The psychologists help identify the personality traits of a good
leader and the types of leaders who should be selected for a particular position.
Industrial psychologists also help maximize efficiency by
5. Compare Beowulf And The Once And Future King
When thinking about the stories told in the Medieval Ages, many people today
might picture a knight, hero, or king that represents as a role model for us people.
Two books, Beowulf translated by Burton Raffel and The Once and Future King by
T.H. White are two examples of stories told at completely different times, by different
authors, that include heros. In both stories there are similarities and differences that
can spotted between these character s heroic traits. Both Beowulf and King Arthur
show the heroic trait of wisdom which is essential to becoming a great leader.
In order to become a hero the trait of wisdom must be presented in an individual, this
is because without wisdom you would not be able to lead others into success. In The
Once and Future King, King Arthur is taught by a magician named Merlyn who turns
him into different animals to learn lessons that he soon uses in his later life as King.
This passage below explains that wisdom is something that must be experienced with
time:
There is a thing called knowledge of the world, which people do not have until they
are middle aged. It is something which cannot be taught to younger people, because
it is not logical and does not obey laws which are constant. It has no rules (T.H.
White).
King Arthur does not realize the importance of his lessons with Merlyn until he
becomes king and is put in situations like never before. In the Anglo Saxon story,
Beowulf gains wisdom as an old man, when he realizes his duty is to his kingdom
and no longer is about his fame and own glory. I ve never known fear,/ as a youth I
fought in endless battles./ I am old now,/ But I will fight again,/ seek fame still
(623 625). Here Beowulf has gotten older and realizes that it is time for him to
fight for his people, not only for his fame. Sacrifice is not something every hero
relates to in their story, but it does occur and is a possible outcome for many leaders.
Both Beowulf and Arthur face the possibilities of death in their stories, and the fact
that they face that possibility for their people makes them brave leaders. But the
difference between the two is that Beowulf dies for his people and Arthur does not.
Take what I leave, Wiglaf, lead my people,/ Help them; my

The Battle of Santa Rosa Island began as an attempt by the Confederate Army to
seize the peninsula stronghold of Fort Pickens, FL during the infancy of the
American Civil War. By most accounts it ended with the hasty retreat of combatant
Confederate forces to mainland Florida and the reassurance of Union ground troop
supremacy in the region.(Harpers Journal***) Despite the Confederate Army
leadership s attempts to discredit and downplay the Union Army s decisive victory
and dominance on the battlefield at Santa Rosa Island, historic accounts to the

Fort Pickens garrison was an integral piece of the Union Navy s gulf blockade
campaign that lasted the entirety of the war. While Confederate forces occupied all
mainland forts in the Pensacola Bay Area of Operations(AO), Union Navy and and
Army assets located at Fort Pickens continually denied Confederate forces logistical
support from British seafaring assets in the Gulf of Mexico. A truce had been
reached by both occupying Armies before the onset of The American Civil War
. The
agreed upon conditions in their most basic sense were that the Confederate Army
Soldiers in Pensacola would not attack Fort Pickens, if the Union Army would
refrain from reinforcing their position. The Confederate Army action is
historically described as a retaliatory attack for a raid on the Confederate ship
Judah by sailors and marines from the U.S.S. Colorado. Rowing into the bay under
cover of darkness, a boat party had surprised and torched the Judah in September
1861 before Confederate troops could quell the attack. Determined to retaliate for
the bold raid, General Braxton Bragg, Commanding Officer for Confederate forces
in Pensacola, decided to launch an attack on the outer camps and batteries of Fort
Pickens on Santa Rosa Island. General Bragg was one of the most experienced
Confederate Army Commanders and commanded about 7,000 Confederate Soldiers
in the Pensacola Bay area of operations. Although it is often stated that Bragg hoped
to capture the fort, his real goal seems to have been to destroy the camp of the 6th
New York Volunteers. (exploresouthernhistory.com) The 6th New York Volunteers
consisted of 600 light infantry troops and were Commanded by Cornel William
Wilson, a former politician from New York. The 6th New York Volunteers had little
combat experience at this point in the war, but their reputation for drinking and

7. The Importance Of Political Socialization
My family and I are newly immigrants from Vietnam where people do not talk much
about politics. Coming to the United States, I was overwhelmed by various media
that we can access political information. Even though online news is my main
source to get information, soft news through comedian s show is my favorite
channel to get political news such as The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. It is
interesting and wider spreading that people insert political controversies into
entertaining TV show. Even though I am not a citizen now, I am interested to be
able to vote once possible. I would not align myself with any political party right
now, but I consider myself as a moderate conservative. The last presidential campaign
was debatable. I would vote for Trump.
My parents are not my main source to form my political socialization since they are
the generations where the one party system in Vietnam is strictly enforced. The
younger generations who are in their twenties like me are more exposed to
international political information. Hence, we are getting more and more involved in
political activities in Vietnam as well as in the world. I have learnt from our country
experience that the most important thing for a healthy political system is the people s
trust in the government. Without it, the government remains weak and not effective.
While my political socialization is not strongly formed by my own mother country,
the Asian community here in the United States are not very active in

The New York State Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013 or
SAFE Act was signed into law January 15, 2013. The law was written in reaction to
the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. This Bill
passed the New York State Senate on January 14th, and the State Assembly January
15th. Not long after, the bill was signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo. With this new
bill in place, New York State has climbed to the top with the toughest gun control law
in the United States. Throughout this paper I will discuss facts and figures along
with my own personal thoughts and views. Topics to be discussed will be; what is
our Second Amendment rights and how is it perceived, the facts on NYS crime rate
and gun violence, who has the SAFE Act affected, how the SAFE Act has affected
those affected, what the citizens of New York are doing about the SAFE Act, and
whether the SAFE Act has made New York a safer state.
First, let s take a minute and discuss the Second Amendment. The Second
Amendment to the United States Constitution is the part of the United States Bill of
Rights that protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms. It was
implemented on December 15, 1791, along with the rest of the Bill of Rights. Now
ask yourself what does the Second Amendment do? A well regulated paramilitaries
or militia, being necessary to the safety of a Free State, the right of the people to
keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. According to the

her off a cliff that measures 100 foot eight years ago, has entered a plea of not
guilty as he was a criminally negligent homicide and coercion in her death,
according to PEOPLE. Stephen Wagner Nichols, 42, faced a verdict of carrying a
penalty of 19 months for each of the felonies and three years of probation.
However, he will not spend more time in jail. Nichols was accused of killing
girlfriend Rhonda Casto,23, as they went hiking along Oregon s scenic Eagle Creek
Trail in March 2009. Authorities allegedly stated he sent her to death after he threw
her off a cliff that measures 100 foot in an attempt to get a $1 million life insurance

10. The Competitors Of American Express
Current Rivalry
The existing competitors of American Express include Discover Financial Services,
Visa, Inc., and MasterCard Worldwide. Unlike American Express and Discover, Visa,
and MasterCard are not financers, which means these companies are intermediaries
and they don t directly finance credit card transactions (Thangavelu, 2015). That
being said, Discover is more in American Express strategic group because they both
issue cards and work within the same strategic group, so American Express and
Discover compete more directly.
Potential Entrants
Not only are there current rivals in every industry, there is always the threat and
opportunity for potential entrants to come to the industry. But not just anyone can
enter an industry easily, as there are barriers to entry that will prevent some
competitors to entering a market. American Express has worked hard to set itself
apart from its competitors and create a product differentiation. Because American
Express is in the closed loop network, being the issuer and acquirer, they attract
more of an affluent customer base who are more likely to spend more on their
transactions. Unlike other card companies, American Express relies on their primary
source of revenue being the discount fee that they charge the companies that accept
its cards. These fees are charged as a percentage of the charge amount processed for
the merchant (Forbes, 2014). With that being said, this means American Express
relies on its affluent customers
11. Betty
Deciding which way to start up a business is often a very difficult decision. The
pros and cons of each choice must be considered before a decision can be made.
First, Betty must decide whether to operate her new business as part of a franchise
or not. She has already had offers from franchises that offered to provide her and her
staff with any training needed. Other potential benefits from operating as a franchise
include a proven recipe for success and access to financing if needed (Wilmington
Trust). Some of the disadvantages of operating under a franchise include a lack of
independence and a high initial investment (Wilmington Trust). Another option for
Betty would be a sole proprietorship. The advantage of this would be that... Show

When having this discussion, not only will it allow Betty to explain why she
made the decision that she made in regards to not hiring Erma, but it is also a
chance to talk about God and try to get Erma on track to becoming a Christian in
the future. Mark 15: 15 16 states And he said to them, Go into the entire world and
proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be
saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned (ESV, Bible). We should
always take opportunities to spread the gospel and teach others about our Lord.
At this time, The Gathering Place is already in use in NC. Betty should choose a new
name to operate her business under. The Gathering Place is also not a great name
choice for trademarking purposes. Trademarks should be as unique and possible
without the use of generic or general words (Borges).
Betty has many decisions to make in regards to her new business. She should first
and foremost ask God for help and guidance. Psalm 32:8 states I will instruct you
and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you
(ESV, Bible).

12. Organizational Behavior Defined
Organizational Behavior Defined Introduction It is reasonable to suggest that the
overwhelming majority of humankind has either been part of or required the
services of organizations at some point in time during their lives, and many of
these consumers will likely testify that although every organization is different in
some ways, they all share some common characteristics. Furthermore, because all
organizations are comprised of mere humans, they are subject to the same
behavioral whims, weaknesses and vagaries that also characterize the human
condition from day to day and over time. To gain further insights into these
concepts, this paper provides a review of the relevant peer reviewed and scholarly
literature to develop a comprehensive and robust definition of organizational
behavior. This review is followed by a summary of the research and salient
findings in the conclusion. Review and Discussion As the term indicates,
organizational behavior describes how people interact in a workplace setting to
achieve a common goal or purpose. In this regard, Kelly and Kelly (1998)
emphasize that, Organizational behavior is essentially concerned with what people
do in organizations (p. 4). Therefore, defining organizational behavior requires a
consideration of how people actually behave in workplace settings at a given point
in time as well as over time (Miner, 2002). As Kelly and Kelly point out, A good
working definition of organizational behavior is the systematic study of
13. Research Paper On Resveratrol
Resveratrol, 3,4 ,5 trihydroxystilbene (MW: 228.2) is a naturally occurring
polyphenol and phytoalexin with a stilbene structure (Carrizzo et al., 2013). There
are various sources of resveratrol such as grapes, peanuts and mulberries. In 1940,
it was first detected in the roots of white hellebore (Veratrum grandiflorum) and in
1963, it was isolated from the roots of traditional Chinese medicinal plant,
Polygonum cupsidatum (Langcake et al., 1977;Vaz da Silva et al., 2008). The basic
structure of resveratrol comprises of two phenolic rings linked by a double styrene
bond, which is responsible for the cis and trans isomeric forms (Gambini et al.,
2015). Exposure to ultraviolet light converts the biologically active trans resveratrol

Metabolites of resveratrol such as glucuronide (3 O glucuronide and 4 O
glucuronide) and sulfate conjugates (3 O sulfate) formed after absorption in
enterocytes are secreted back to intestines, where they may be deconjugated and
reabsorbed or excreted in the feces (Walle et al., 2004; Marier et al., 2002). The
amount of free resveratrol reaching the target tissue is decreased due to enterohepatic
cycle; this explains its rapid metabolism in liver and low concentration in blood. The
major metabolites of resveratrol formed are dihydroresveratrol, sulfate and
glucuronide conjugates, including disulfates and mixed sulfate glucuronides (Wang
et al., 2005). The metabolites of resveratrol have longer half life and are present in
larger amount than resveratrol after absorption (Andres Lacueva et al., 2010;
Polycarpou et al., 2013). After oral administration of resveratrol, mainly sulphate or
glucuronic acid conjugates were present in urine (Singh et al., 2013). The amount of
sulphate and glucuronide metabolites was shown to vary with the tissue and species
considered: sulphate conjugates are main metabolites in humans, whereas primarily
glucuronide conjugates are found in rodents; furthermore, the glucuronides are
present in larger amounts than sulphates in rat liver and testes, but not in lung (Juan
et al., 2010; AzorГn OrtuГ±o et al., 2011; Walle, 2011; Juan et al.,

Does a current account deficit matter?
Yun Shik Park
Abstract: Sometimes a country will export their goods to another country, rather than
importing them and it causes current account deficits. The purpose of this paper is to
examine the role of current account in national economic development. As the world
becomes more interdependent and globalized, we cannot ignore the importance of a
country s income and expenditure records the current account. The current account is
the point at which international economics collide with political reality. When
countries hold large deficits, businesses, trade unions, politicians, and countries are
often quick to blame their opponents and make changes regarding unfair practices.
Some economists argue that A large current account deficit is not a cause of concern
if the fiscal accounted are balanced, Lawson s Doctrine. Therefore, we don t need to
worry about the current account. However, the paper researched this matter for a
more in depth understanding of the economic concept of current account deficits.

Another method of differentiation used by Billabong is its strategy of multi
branding. Billabong pursues a niche market of 10 to 24 year olds who are brand
orientated and are willing to spend accordingly to ensure that they are anti
mainstream. The implication of pursuing such a segment is that Billabong must
ensure that its brand does not become too large and mass market, as this would
result in a loss in credibility from its consumer base who are seeking individualism
and independence. Consequently, unlike its major rivals, Billabong has implemented
a strategy of multi branding instead of attempting to push the brand into other
product areas. This multi branding strategy has led to the acquisition of Element in
2001, a US skate wear manufacturer, and also Von Zipper which is known for its
sunglasses and snow goggles. In contrast Rip Curl has focused on branching out into
other product areas under the one
19. Analysis Of John Fowles s The Magus
A written piece of literature means nothings without the reader. If a story is never
read or interpreted by someone, then it means nothing at all. Only when a piece of
literature is read and given a response does it mean anything. The role of the reader
is essential to the meaning of a text, for only in the reading experience does the
literary work come alive. Furthermore, each reader can interpret a text differently
and is affected by outside influences. These influences can effect major areas of the
text and in some cases give it a different meaning. In John Fowles s The Magus, the
reader s response to the authors story telling can differ by their social class, reaction
to the main character, and gender. These key differences can give the story a whole
new meaning and why the reader s response to literature is so important. In The
Magus, the reader social class can change their outlook on the story. The Magus
follows the main character Nicolas Urfe, a young middle class Englishman. Nicholas,
being from the middle class, receives more than the lower class and less upper class
social groups. He may had received a different education, experienced a different
sort of living, and overall may have a different way of interacting with the world.
For example, he was able to attend Oxford university in England which is a very
costly and prestigious university to attend. For the reader that is of a lower class,
Nicolas becomes a less relatable character. Throughout history

21. The Horrors of Cannibalism
Cannibalism to say the least is a very taboo word. Cannibalism is known to be very
disturbing and sets off a certain set of powerful emotions when spoken about. One
thing about cannibalism is that it used to be considered a normal part of life, and has
only recently been seen as taboo in the recent centuries. Many people believe
Cannibalismshould be legal world wide, but only have reasoning s of culture and
religions. Cannibalism should be illegal because of immorality, diseases , and
murder by eating someone s flesh. The History of Cannibalism is small, yet widely
spread around the world. The Korowai Tribe has been around since 1974, they are
known for killing outsiders, and to be afraid of pale skinned people (Raffaele). If
Cannibalism stays legal, the isolated tribes could possibly expand, and want to kill
any pale skinned person, or anyone not from their tribe. The Carib tribe was the first
known tribe to commit acts of cannibalism to their enemies, which became
increasingly rare once the introduction of Christianity was introduced in the area
(Mind Q). Once the human race became more active in moral behavior, Cannibalism
was outcast, giving it no reason to be legal within our current society. The Aztecs are
known as one of the most brutal tribes to date, the Aztecs would commit thousands of
human sacrifices a year (Mind Q). When you have Cannibals eating live hearts (Mind

Oedipus the ideal Tragic Hero
Kelli Richards

Abstract
In the play Oedipus Rex, Sophocles portrays Oedipus who is also the main character,
as a good natured, beautiful, noble yet narcissistic person who has a lapse of
judgment and fall from power. Throughout the play Oedipus makes a few profound
decisions for which he is condemned to plentiful suffering; thus making Oedipus fit
the mold of a tragic hero if we agree with Aristotle that Oedipus misfortune happens
strictly because of his tragic flaw. Oedipus judgment alongside classic narcissistic
behavior caused such events as the killing of ... Show more content on

Aristotle, Using Oedipus as an ideal model, says that a tragic hero must be an
important or influential man who has a lapse in judgment. Who then must suffer the
consequences of his actions. The audience must learn a lesson from the tragic hero;
a lesson of what happens when great men fall from their social or political positions.
The tragic hero needs his errors in judgment for a phenomenal effect of audience
realization to occur.
Oedipus tries to prevent his terrible fate from occurring after it is prophesized to
Laius, his father, early on; he leaves the city of his foster parents as a preventative
measure. Oedipus is being punished for his parents actions. His birth parents once
set out to seek the advice of the Delphi Oracle but the advice was gloom. They were
told never to have children, but in spite of the warning Oedipus was born. Therefore
from the beginning Oedipus is a tragic hero, his birth presents his destiny to result in
tragedy. As with most tragedies Oedipus birth was noble which made his fall more
intriguing to the audience. What use are my eyes to me, who could never See
anything pleasant again? (Sophocles 1293) This statement is the realization of
wrongdoing; it is not until now that Oedipus sees his own actions as wrong.
There is a significant point of the play where the Herdsman tells Oedipus who his
mother is and Oedipus replies Oh, oh, then everything has come out true. Light, I
shall not look on
23. Haskell s Portrayal Of Women In Reverence To Rape
In the excerpt Forties from the novel Reverence to Rape, Haskell examines the
portrayal of women in the films from the forties. American screenwriters during this
time portrayed female protagonists in a negative way. Women were displayed as
severely evil and immoral beings. This was a great contrast to the sexually and
morally free women in the films created in the thirties.
The Forties were a time where films were grim. What was interesting to me was the
relation to film noir. The films were very dark and focused on the negatives in
society. These films highlighted crime, mental illness, violence, and more. Due to the
large amounts of cynicism and depression in society, relationships were rooted in fear
and suspicion, impotence and inadequacy (Haskell, 196). Relationships were depicted
as con games, men tricked women and women tricked ... Show more content on

There was a large amount of infidelity and relationship woes being displayed by both
female and male protagonists in forties films.
The Forties began the era of the good girl vs the bad girl and the angel vs. the
devil. Some women were being put down in the films created in the forties. These
women were displayed as lacking high self esteem and were accepting of bad
treatment from men. These women were women in waiting ; those who would
sacrifice themselves for the love of a man. They were the good girls that were
walked all over by men. This contrasted with the bad women of the forties. These
women were con women. They were into criminal activity just as the men were and
would trick men or drag the men down with them. These women were viewed as
liars and treacherous. The bad girls were viewed as beings with no soul who lacked
morality and emotions. Instead of aspiring

25. Importance Of Listening Skills
Listening is more often used in communication than other skills. It plays a
significant role in communication and is considered as one of the fundamental
skills in learning English. According to Burley Allen in Flowerdew and Miller,
(2005: 22 23), the importance of listening skills for communication can be seen from
the average time people spend in daily communication. People usually spend 35% of
their time for speaking, 16% for reading, 9% for writing and 40% for listening. Thus,
listening in this matter is the highest skillto use in communication.
Listening also plays an important role in language teaching. It provides the aural
input that serves the basis of language acquisition and enables learners to interact in
spoken communication. The student with good listening skills will be able to
participate more effectively in communicative situations, because they are able to
understand the message being conveyed. Listening which has been called as the
neglected or ignored language art for more than 50 years for it is rarely taught in
kindergarten until eighth grade, as a result it is considered as the most difficult skill
to be acquired.
Listening has an important role in communication, even though it is also an activity
that is hard to teach to the students. As Perez, (2000:1811) in Mayor, (2009:1) states
that listening is a complex problem solving skill which is difficult to teach and until
a few years ago listening has not been accepted as the skill that should be

The Relationship Between Trauma and Addiction The experience of trauma can bring
about feelings that are difficult for anyone else to understand. The feelings become
even more complicated with addiction. It is important for practitioners to first
understand the relationship of trauma and addiction to one another. A better
understanding of the research will help make better connections to possible
treatments and interventions. Research testing these treatments can give possible
avenues for practitioners to venture when faced with someone who is recovering
from trauma and also facing a substance use disorder. The research available is a
good start when trying to define the relationship between this co occurring disorder.

the results of Seeking Safety and the Male Trauma Recovery Empowerment Model.
McGovern et al. (2009) stated that in the past, practitioners treated substance use

version of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for treating co occurring substance

use of the adapted CBT, there PTSD symptoms lessened and addiction issues also
reduced tremendously. McGovern et al. (2009) made it clear, though, that the
participant s reduced substance use may be related to the intensive outpatient
treatment that they were also involved in. In a future study, McGovern et al. (2011)
used an integrative CBT in comparison to substance use counseling. McGovern et al.
(2011) reported that they were both beneficial to addiction outcomes, but the

30. Houston Food Culture Essay
Houston is a cornucopia of foods. The increase of restaurants throughout America
has brought new tastes and an open palette of food for people. Americans are
introduced to new cultures through the availability of food. The ubiquity of food
makes it feel like it is just a necessity to keep our body s functioning but it is more
than calories that give us energy. It is an individual building their identity and
tradition or social life based on the foodthey eat.
Food is one of the elements that identifies a culture. Certain protein, spices, and
vegetables are used to cook distinctive foods from different cultures. Similarly,
Houston, being a large city, has different areas with communities having an
abundance of ethnicities gathering up and bring their food with them. In the
Southeast area, it is predominantly Hispanics, resulting in innumerable Hispanic
restaurants. For example, Telephone Road is filled with taco trucks and refresquerias
from the beginning to the end of the street. This abundance of the same menu items
results in cultures specializing or fusing cuisines, spreading it throughout the city to

it is food that joins people together making them similar to every human s regular

A Limit for Their Own Good
Whether we are aware of it or not, technology has become a normal part of our
lives nowadays. No matter where we go, technology will be present, from mobile
devices to more complicated creations, and all generations are exposed to them,
specially the younger ones. This young generation spends a great deal of time in front
the screens of these technologic devices. Which is why parents should limit the
amount of time children under 12 use technology since it does not let them develop
certain abilities, it limits them from having real life interactions, and it might cause
children health problems too (Summers).
Many kids were born in the Digital Era therefore, they are surrounded by
technology and screens most of the time, mostly at home, but too much exposure
to this can affect their abilities. According to a Research made by the University of
California, Los Angeles, kids who spent time away from looking at screens were
better at recognizing human emotions than kids who kept living their lives with
technology around them (Wolpert). This show us, how replacing real life
interactions for screen time not only isolates children but also makes them unable
to develop this kind of skill, skills that are important in the real life and are likely to
be needed in the future. Besides that, kids who invest most of their time on staring at
screens can be faced by health problems in the long run. As reported by some
researchers, this health problems range from childhood obesity and irregular sleep
patterns to social and/or behavioral issues. (Summers). Therefore, considering all
these negative effects on children, parents should be more cautious regarding how
much time their kids use technology and expose themselves to screens and digital
media.
Some parents might argue, however, that kids do not necessarily waste their time
with technology and actually utilize it for educational purposes such as researching a
school project, creating music or art, or interacting with friends via social media.
(Elana). Parents might believe that this is reason acceptable enough to let them
control it as much as they need to. They are partially

c.The second type is long lasting, involves content for one s life. Maslow s hierarchy
of needs introduces the belief that in order to achieve happiness underlying
precautions must be met. This furthers the idea that a higher and more important

and references the idea of a higher happiness.
III.Second Argument: Happiness can be achieved. Each type of happiness requires
different actions in order to be achieved. Both types can exist at the same time, and
some actions may cause both types to occur, but a fundamental difference remains.

34. Salad Bowl Analysis
The immigration is always an important issue throughout the history of the United
States. The government is struggling to assist the diversity of cultures and ethnic
groups because immigrants continuously bring their traditions into America. This
raised the metaphor melting pot and salad bowl, which described the term of
assimilation and integration of the many different cultures in America. Today, the
United Statessociety no longer matches the melting potmetaphor; it shifts to salad
bowl metaphor. This concept is different from the notion of the melting pot. The
salad bowl means that the immigrants keep their unique customs and cultures, the
integration degree of immigrant merge into the American community, and the youth
immigrant generations recognize their heritage of origin culturein the mainstream of
American culture. For these reasons, the salad bowl metaphor would be more
appropriate to America society these days.
The term melting pot was generally used in the United States after it was used as a
metaphor for describing an association of cultures and ethnicities in 1908. Many
different types of people blend together as one in a society. America is always a
nation of immigration, based on the history element of the country. The generations
of immigrants have mixed together. They have refused their origin traditions and
cultures to become totally assimilated into American society. That was why
American citizen considered United States was a melting pot. In contrast to the
soup bowl theory, there is the emergence of salad bowl metaphor. It asserts that the
integration of the many different cultures of the United States people combines like
a big salad bowl. It means many cultures, languages, and ethic co exist in peaceful,
like all kinds of ingredients in a bowl of salad. It mixes together, but it does not
dissolve into one.
Although the melting pot theory seems to be outdated in American society today,
however, there are still a lot of conservatives to favor their views on this metaphor.
They think the fusing of different ethnic group is essential for building a cohesive
society. Immigrants should give up their origin tradition national identity, and they try
to entirely assimilate
35. The Spiritual Practice Of Sabbath
My life is full of habits. And a lot of them. Some of them are really good habits,
but, unfortunately, some of them are really bad. One of the bad habits I ve
become accustomed to over the years is working myself to my breakpoint and not
taking a chance to breathe. More than that I tend to keep busy way more often than
I should be some simply over just trivial things. That is why I decided to choose
the spiritual practice of Sabbath where I took one 24 hour period in my week and
dedicated it to simply rest and rejuvenate and nothing more. Now by rest, I don t
necessarily mean sleep, a lot of times it was just doing what brings me pleasure and
replenishes me instead of exhausting myself, or giving to me, instead of taking from
me.
Although I have heard people talking about the Sabbath growing up multiple times,
I have never heard it phrased like it was in this class: as a spiritual formative
practice. To my dismay, that was all it has been until this class. My extent of
knowledge about Sabbath had only came from some of what I ve read about it in the
Bible. That was when the Jews practiced Sabbath as commanded under the Mosaic
Law, given to them when they were in the wilderness. Exodus 20:8 10 shares,
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all
your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. The Jews were
allowed to do no work on this day, marked as Friday evening until Saturday evening
on the Jewish calendar.
36. Arthur Schopenhauer Optimism And Pessimism
Pessimism is conceptualised as a lens in which the aspects of life are viewed with a
sombre temperament, distorting one s appreciation for life by ignoring its good
aspects, thus lowering one s expectations. Arthur Schopenhauer is often categorised
as the greatest pessimist in Western philosophy despite never formally characterising
himself as such. However, he exercises the concepts optimism and pessimism to
classify certain conceits of sufferingin his philosophies on humanlife and existence in
order to classify the good and evil that pervade the human condition. Schopenhauer
articulates what he perceives as the cruel realities of life by asserting that human
existence is burdened by the twin poles of human suffering; want and boredom,...

The philosopher then looks towards the influence that religion has on the enquiry of
the meaning of life. Thus, emerges the dichotomy of empiricism and rationalism
and good and evil in his philosophy from a higher level of existential evaluation. I
have found On the Sufferings of the World to be reflective of Schopenhauer s
practice of rationalist thought as he criticises Christianity. He scrutinises the
concept of an all loving god, stating that if he in fact does exist, he must surely be
cruel, for he should have created a better world than this one , p:48. I personally
find validity behind this argument. If God truthfully exists, why has he created a
world that ratifies suffering? Christian ideology, however, is optimistic; in short,
God created a world of free will, but suffering is a man made evil. Schopenhauer
pities this argument that the problem of evil is overruled by goodness, we come into
the world already encumbered with guilt (Schopenhauer, 1850, p:49). Therefore, the
next question is, if humans have free will, why does it translate into
37. Teenage Brain Vs Teen Brain
The brain of the average teen is quite different to that of an adult, which results in
many struggles in action and behavior that is special to teens. Most of the reasons
teens act the way they do versus how adults act can be determined by the brain and
its development. These large and important differences between the brains of adults
in teens is why teens act so different from adults. The teen brainis different from the
adult brain because the teenage brain is not yet done maturing. This has been proved
in the article ( Teen Brain... ) where it says that the brain is still growing and
maturing in these year and the amygdala is what develops sooner than the prefrontal
cortex( Teen Brain.., ). So what this means is that teens actions are guided more by
the emotional, amygdala and less by the thoughtful, and logical prefrontal cortex (
Teen Brain... ).This shows the difference between adult brain and teen brains
because one typically thinks of most adults as logical and rational people and often
people think of teens as kind of crazy or off the rails and irrational. While some of
that is simple, the teens personality, a large part is simply biology. Our bodies are
meant to survive so it make sense that we develop the reaction and fear first but
unfortunately now, in modern times, we do not need those developments first since
humans are not trying to survive in a harsh, survival of the fittest centered,
environment any longer, which results in the typical teen with an

39. Bloody Sunday Essay
Bloody Sunday The events that took place on Bloody Sunday, 30th January 1972
have been discussed frequently and certain aspects of the event highly debated. The
events of the particular day were of significant influence in further procedures in N.
Ireland an on other related events. The event began after an illegal march took place
in the centre of Derry, N. Ireland; the police and government banned the march as it
was thought it would provoke violence. The march was lead by Catholic supporters
who were demonstrating for Catholic rights, the Protestant biased government and
the internment of Catholics. As... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was thought by some that the IRA wanted a major gun battle, although others
thought that if similar events to those that took place in Magilligan, London would
be shamed and therefore it would seem that the British paratroopers would want to
hold their fire against the Catholic demonstrators. Another stance is that the
Catholics were simply holding another peaceful protest. About a week before
Bloody Sunday, a two hour gunfight to place at Forkhill in County Armagh
between British troops and the IRA. About 1000 shots were fired. Because of all
the violence of the previous weeks, which was blamed on the IRA, the Protestant
unionists felt that a tougher approach must be made to stop further violence from
occurring. After Bloody Sunday had taken place, the question of who was to blame
and more importunately for some, who had fired the first shot. Different accounts of
the day can give us an idea of what happened, although the evidence is far from
conclusive. The official statement released by the army and approved by Lieutenant
General Sir Harry Tuzo stated that, ВЎВҐThe paratroopers came under nail bomb
attack and a fusillade of fifty to eighty rounds.ВЎВ¦ Although the statement simply

Today has been a long, exciting, stressful and adventurous day. Today was the day

As William James once said, The greatest discovery of my generation is that human
beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind, (James). William James
quote explains that fact humans can change their lives by changing the way they
perceive events that happen in their lives. The way a human can understand this
concept is through the help of psychology. Psychology is the study of how the human
mindworks and function through scientific studies. Psychology is an important field

The concept of development through the life span is about understanding the
human body from time someone is born to time they die. A person goes through
many stages in their life from the day they born to the day they die and each stage
teaches a person something that will need for their life. For a dentist it important
that he or she understands the stages that their patients are going through in order
to give the patient proper oral care. As theorist Erik Erikson describe the stages
from infancy to late adulthood, it is important for a dentist to know these stages
because it will help the dentist prepare their patient for the proper oral care that is
need from a young age to late adulthood. For a dentist to know these stages, it will
help the dentist to treat its patient because each patient is at different stage which
needs different type of attention. For example, a four year old might need the dentist
to be cute and funny in order for the patient to get the treatment, whereas for an adult
over 50 a dentist needs to be more straightforward and honest. As children develop
through the Erik Erikson stages, it important for a dentist to know when to start
teaching their patients proper oral care such as brushing and flossing. To be a
successful dentist one must understand the development of its patient in order to give
the proper

Cross docking refers to the packing of products on incoming shipments so that they
can be easily sorted at intermediate warehouses for outgoing shipments based on their
final destinations. Thus Wal Mart benefits through reductions in inventory
investment, storage space requirements, handling costs and lead times, as well as
increased inventory turnover and accelerated cash flow.
In understanding that inventory management must include the entire supply chain,
Wal Mart s implementation of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology at
its dock doors enables operations teams and suppliers know when a shipment
arrives. The data is useful to determine when to order additional stock or to figure
out if a store has over ordered.
Similarly, Wal Mart has implemented Collaborative Forecasting and Replenishment
(CFAR) software to help provide more reliable medium term forecasts by using the
Internet. The system allows Wal Mart and its suppliers to work together in
determining an acceptable forecast. Wal Mart has since benefited from an
improvement in in stock position from 85 percent to 98 percent as well as increases
in sales and reductions in inventory costs.
Wal Mart invests time in meeting vendors to fully understand their cost structure in
order to negotiate prices and establish a lasting, mutually beneficial relationship. Wal

of adult ADHD are similar to the symptoms of child ADHD. Those who suffer with
ADHD struggle with the inability to control their daily lives. ADHD not only affects
the individual who has it, but it also affects everyone around them. Extensive
research has been conducted on ADHD and to date there are still no definite answers
as to what exactly causes this disorder.

that affects the development of the central nervous system. It is believed that this
lack of development directly affects the part of the brain responsible for
concentration. ADHD is also believed to be partly due to ... Show more content on

Sub characteristics of hyperactivity include inability to sit still during times of
relaxation, incessant talking, problems with listening and interrupting, and inability
to focus on uninteresting reading materials, constantly on the move.
Sub characteristics of Impulse Control include talking out of turn or saying rude
things without considering the consequences, answering questions before they have
been fully asked.
According to the DSM IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders)
there are three main types of ADHD. These types are AttentionDeficit/Hyperactivity
Disorder with predominance in inattentiveness, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity
Disorder with predominance in hyperactivity and impulsiveness, and Attention

inattentiveness. There are certain criteria that must be met before a diagnosis can be
made to attribute ADHD to the behavior of anyone.
Diagnosis of ADHD is based on the number of sub characteristics listed under each
main characteristic that actually applies to the individual. Failure to meet the criteria
can lead to a diagnosis of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder NOS (not
otherwise specified). This diagnosis means that there are definite characteristics of
inattentiveness, hyperactivity,
