Citing Essays
Composing an essay on the subject of "Citing Essays" may initially seem like a straightforward
task, but delving into the intricacies of proper citation and its multifaceted nature can prove to be
quite challenging. The difficulty lies not only in understanding the various citation styles such as
APA, MLA, or Chicago but also in implementing them accurately throughout the essay.
To begin with, one must meticulously research and grasp the specific guidelines associated with
the chosen citation style. Each style comes with its own set of rules regarding the citation of
different sources, including books, articles, websites, and more. Ensuring consistency and
precision in adhering to these guidelines can be a meticulous process that demands attention to
detail.
Moreover, the challenge extends beyond mere mechanical adherence to citation rules. Crafting
an essay on citing essays requires a profound understanding of the importance of proper citation
in academic writing. One must delve into the reasons behind citing sources, exploring concepts
such as intellectual property, academic integrity, and the acknowledgment of the scholarly
contributions of others.
Additionally, the writer must skillfully integrate citations into the flow of the essay, striking a
balance between demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the topic and acknowledging
the scholarly discourse that precedes their work. This requires finesse in blending personal
insights with information gleaned from external sources, all while maintaining the coherence and
originality of the essay.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Citing Essays" demands more than just a basic
understanding of citation styles. It necessitates a deep dive into the intricacies of each style, a
nuanced appreciation for the underlying principles of proper citation, and the ability to
seamlessly incorporate citations into the broader narrative. The endeavor is undoubtedly
challenging but can be immensely rewarding for those who master the art of citing essays
effectively.

Cost, Access And Quality

Cost, Access and Quality Introduction Cost has different perspectives depending on
whom we are speaking about. Consumers refer to cost in reference to the price of
healthcare, bills to insurance or payments to doctors directly. Nationally we refer
to healthcare spending as a reflection of all healthcare spending that occurs in the
nation and is normally measured in a percentage of the Gross domestic product or
GDP. Provider costs are seen as the cost to pay staff, buying medical equipment and
capital costs for buildings and the maintenance of the buildings infrastructure (Shi
Singh, 2005). A major contributor to the rise of healthcare cost is that heath
spending for individuals is primarily funded by third parties. Because consumers of
healthcare share little of the financial burden of the cost of the care they receive,
patients and physicians are incentivized to utilize healthcare at a higher rate than
they would if cost was a larger factor. The United States healthcare systems is based
on a capitalist system but it operates in an imperfect marketplace that is no
competitive. The current marketplace is not highly regulated as there is not a
national health care program for all Americans which allow prices to be regulated
and controlled effectively by a single regulating body. In this imperfect
The Core Values Of Zappos
The holacratic model has, already, been adopted by for profit and non profit
organizations in several countries. For the purpose of an incubation chamber,
Zappos.com has been the first organizational reality to deploy it. Zappos is an online
shoe and clothing shop founded in 1999 and owned by Amazon since 2009. During
the negotiations with Amazon, internal management s primary concern was to
maintain the company culture intact throughout the acquisition process, because a
culture that embraces the idiosyncrasies of each individual is what keeps the firm
alive and healthy. Such an emphasis on employees manifested itself in drawing up
the ten core values of the Zappos family:
deliver wow through service;
embrace and drive change;
create fun and a little weirdness;
be adventurous, creative, and open minded;
pursue growth and learning;
build open and honest relationships with communication;
build a positive team and family spirit;
do more with less;
be passionate and determined;
be humble.
The company has, even, its own consulting unit to help others emulate the Zappos
way and folklore. In 2015, Zappos formerly adopted Holacracy. One of Holacracy s
most significant innovations is making governance something that happens at every
level of the organization. Governance becomes an ongoing process that happens in

An Analysis of the Choice Between Separated and Mixed...
An analysis of the choice between separated and mixed operation model for ICBC(
London) Abstract: Since the fifth wave of Merge and Acquisition in the 1990s, the
global banking industries have developed towards the direction of large scale,
international and omnipotent banks. The mixed operation of the commercial banks
had already been the leading trend in the 21st century. With China s entrance into
WTO at the end of last century, the Chinese financial institutions, especially the
Chinese bank industries, are destined to participate in the global economy and to face
the keen competition from the financial conglomerate of the western developed
countries. The commercial banks still operate separately at present according to the
law.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The competition among commercial banks increased. Especially, after joining WTO,
Chinese state owned commercial banks face more direct threat from foreign
competition. However, China s Commercial Bank Law clearly provides the current
business model of commercial banks is separate operation, separate supervision (Qu
and Sun, 2006). Also as the renovation of technology and the continuous development
of the world s financial markets, the various financial derivatives have been promoted.
Meanwhile, the integration between different financial sectors gradually
strengthened. The original separated operation and supervision mechanism hinder the
innovation of financial system and enhancement of service efficiency. ICBC
(London) is facing the level of competition in the financial sector will become more
intense, which requires the development under the British FSA s supervision. It must
keep the pace of the international financial banks. That means the mixed operation
will be the future development direction. To reach this argument, this paper will be
based on the primary and secondary data of operation performance of HSBC and
ICBC operated in UK, and analyze the result of comparison to conduct the
appropriate choice of operation model for ICBC operating

They have earned several Platinum, Double Platinum and Multi Platinum records,
as well as sold 23 million DVDs and seven million CDs, and have performed, on
average, to one million people per year. The group has also earned multiple
Australasian Performing Rights Association (APRA) and Australian Recording

in the country . Eventually, they moved to larger arenas such as the Beacon
Theatre and Madison Square Garden. They performed at SeaWorld in Orlando,
Florida for six weeks. Their audiences began to increase, and they toured Australia,
New Zealand, Hong Kong, the US, and the UK. Beginning in 2002, The Wiggles

Culture Vs American Culture
I can vividly recall one warm summer night in Dallas,Texas when my entire family
and I were huddled around a tiny 27 inch television. We were anxiously watching
one of the most infamous rivalries in sport: India versus Pakistan. I did not quite
understand what was happening in the match, but judging by the anxious look on my
family s faces, I could tell that the game was very close and intense. I remember my
dad and uncles talking about strategies Pakistanshould use to win, debating back and
forth on what would be the best move. Unfortunately, moments later, everybody
went quiet, as only sighs and groans filled the room. Pakistan had just lost. Seeing
the somber faces around the room, I realized how important cricket was to my
family, and how it was a pivotal aspect of their collective identity; how a simple
sporting match was able to bring people together,... Show more content on

A part of that has to do with learning the varying differences between Pakistani and
American culture. For example, while most children were watching cartoons like
SpongeBob SquarePants or simply American sports, I remember watching Cricket
(the most popular sport in Pakistan) and a South Asian crime drama, called CID .
While some of my friends would have meatloaf for dinner, I would have Pakistani
dishes like Nihari and Biryani. I communicated with my parents almost exclusively
in Urdu, the official language of Pakistan. And while most of my friends would go
to a church in a suit and tie, I would go to a mosque, wearing a traditional Pakistani
outfit, known as a Shalwar Kurta . Pakistani and American cultures differ in many
ways, and it is by experiencing both of these cultures simultaneously, and effectively
assimilating into American society, that had an integral role in shaping the person
that I have become today, not only in terms of my personality but also in the way I

Lizzie Borden Murder
The Murders in Fall River
On August 4, 1892 at 92 Second Street in Fall River Massachusetts, stepmom Abby
and father, Andrew Borden were slaughtered by an axe in their home ( The Trial of
Lizzie Borden ). Lizzie s biological mother died in 1862, and her father Andrew
remarried the spinstress, Abby Durfee Gray. Since it was a stepmother to be
murdered, it raised the question as to if Lizzie really liked her stepmother. Abby s
body was in the guest room, murdered an hour before Andrew, who was on a sofa.
Lizzie, their daughter, was first suspected then convicted based on the evidence. A
year later she was pronounced innocent. What really happened will remain a mystery
because someone s word on what happened could easily be altered and the ... Show

Three days later, on August 9th, Lizzie started to be questioned in the courtroom
over police headquarters. During the first four hours of the examination Lizzie gave
confusing and contradicting information pertaining to where she was and what she
was doing. Two days later, on August 11th, Lizzie was read her rights and arrested
by Chief Hillard for the murder of her parents. The following day Lizzie made a
plea of not guilty to the charges against her before being transported by rail car to a
jail located in Taunton, an area located eight miles from Fall River. August 22nd
Lizzie was returned to the Fall River courtroom for her preliminary hearing, after a
criminal complaint has been filed by the prosecutor, next is to determine whether
there is enough evidence to require a trial. At the end of the hearing, Judge Josiah
Blaisdell pronounced Lizzie as probably guilty and ordered her to face a grand
jury. From November 15th to the 21st Lizzie faced the grand jury to plead not
guilty. It wasn t until December first, that a testimony was made against Lizzie by
a friend of the families. Alex Russell appeared before the grand jury to make his
statement about the blue dress he saw Lizzie burn. Lizzie responded with the fact
that the dress was covered in old paint. The question then is, why was she burning it
the day of the murders? The statement from Russell matched with an earlier
testimony made by Bridget, she claimed Lizzie was wearing a blue dress the
morning of the murders. Since both testimonies matched, it was enough evidence to
convince the jury to indict, formally accuse of or charge with a serious crime, Lizzie
for the murder of her parents. On June 5th, 1893 Andrew Jennings and George
Robinson represented the defendant while Knowlton and Thomas Moody argued the
case of the prosecution. Moody opened the case with a two hour long speech while

many people still rave about his music. What made him so special was the
connection he had with his listeners. He found many ways to incorporate his life
stories into his music that relates to every other thug growing up in the streets from
New York City to Los Angeles. The perfect example of this is his double CD, Life
after Death where most of his songs are about death and how people deal with it.
Its quite ironic how he sort of predicted his own death in the album but by doing so,
it helped his fans and family deal with his death better. To understand his songs, you

I bet you re wondering what s so bad about having the name April. There s nothing

Other than having the female name of April Brooks, I m an eighties baby. I m
proud to say that I was born in an era when it was cool to walk around wearing
Kangol hats, super thick gold rope chains, socks with penny loafers, and shoulder
pads. My parents met in the sixties. Their names are Annie and Avery. Back then

Transcendentalism In The Lesson Of The Moth By Don
Marquis
The poem the lesson of the moth written by Don Marquis, reflects many ideas found
in Transcendentalism and in the story of Chris McCandless. The poem focuses in on
the beauty of life. It suggests that we get bored with the routine (Marquis 18). This
relates to many Transcendentalist beliefs which are represented throughout multiple
of Emerson and Thoreau s pieces. Transcendentalism has many core beliefs such as:
individualism, going into nature, trusting one s self, and living a minimalistic life.
These core beliefs are said to help one find true happinesswithin themselves and
connecting with nature. This relates to many of Chris McCandless s beliefs as well,
because he got bored with the routine life he was living. McCandless wondered...

This ambition to do something out of the ordinary so different which many people
fear. People fear change, yet some people have an implicit reaction of excitement
and an adrenaline rush. McCandless went out and followed his true aspiration and
showed individualism in doing so. This is a key factor in Transcendentalism, to be
an individual. While McCandless was on his journey, he views people in a similar
light as the moth had in which they are too civilized to enjoy themselves (Marquis
42). This is also shown in some of the Transcendentalist principles written by
Thoreau, believing that people are too involved with other people s lives and
concerns that there is no time for one to release and relax. This principle reveals
how many people are not taking care of themselves and their own well being.
Humans show many signs and are guided to strive for altruism, in practicing a
selfless concern for the well being of others. Yet, this action is contradictory in some
Transcendentalist ideals. From the poem the lesson of the moth , to the
Transcendentalist ideologies, and even Chris McCandless s journey, there is a
pattern of self care and being concerned for one s well being. This is something many
fear, yet are still attracted towards due to the potential excitement and happiness it
could bring them. This, however, would call for that person to abandon

be like. I too had that kind of role model in my life, a being that was a guide stone
in my path of life. He made me realize how I should live my life. But no more is he
a role model for me. I felt a sense of betrayal by the figure when I learned about his
dark and unknown side. It was then when I learned to look both sides of the story,
that there is no such thing as a perfect being in this world. Now hear me out! I am
not exaggerating! I know betrayal is a strong word but you have to understand that
this person was a very special person to me. As I matured throughout... Show more

Though I do not deny Dr. King s achievements and his fame, this was what I
learned. The experience with Dr. King proved to me that people of fame or honor
also have a dark and rather unrighteous side to them, that although they seem pure
and just, they are not. This sudden understanding brought along some short term as
well as long term effects into my life. The short term effect that I felt was that I
began to be doubtful to a person s claim of fame. I would not completely believe
what that person has said or done to achieve such honor. In the long term, the effect
I felt was to research or at least check out the hidden, horrible side to them. I can
predict that both George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, two of our beloved
presidents, probably have a sinister side to them as well. But maybe it was foolish of

Understanding A Good War Story Summary
Understanding A Good War Story What do you think Tim O Brien wants his

Paul in the story had to be strong and act like he wasn t terrified. That showed he
was a very strong man. Even when his friend had a heart attack he was so scared
and couldn t believe that, that is how he died in the big, bad, dangerous war. He
was pretending he was not in the war, pretending he had not watched Billy Boy
Watkins die of a heart attack that afternoon. (O Brien 198). O Brien wants us to
read his stories and try to see the world from a different perspective, or a different
persons point of view. Paul in the story was very scared in the war but he wanted
to impress his dad. He described how scary the war was by saying, His fear now
was diffuse and unformed: ghost in the tree line, nighttime fears of a child, a
boogey man in the closet that his father would open to show empty. (O Brien 199).
As we read Tim O Brien s war story he wants us to heal from the wounds that life
has delivered to all of us. This war story wants to encourage us and embolden us.
And help us see the world freshly from other peoples eyes. There are many different
ways that the story Where Have You Gone, Charming Billy? shows the emotions that

CEMENT MANUFACTURING IN SOUTH INDIA: INDUSTRIES, RAW
MATERIALS, PRODUCTION RATE TECHNOLOGY
ABSTRACT
The Critical Review paper about CEMENT INDUSTRIES IN SOUTH INDIA talks
about the various cement industries established in southern part of India, their
feasibility of site, their raw materials , production rate and the technology used by
them. The paper talks about the importance of cement industries in south India, The
main resources needed for the production, shortage of the resources if any, and then
it incorporates critics based on the finding at the end along with a short mail
interview with ACC South Chief Executive, Mr. Anuj Khajanchi. The study on the
paper is done by RAKESH KUMAR SHARMA, NIKHIL KUMAR, and MOHIT
KUMAR MEENA. All the resources and data are collected from Internet.
INTRODUCTION
Cement is the binding material that holds the concrete together, and is therefore a
basic need for every construction involving concrete or biding of basic blocks like
bricks. Also concrete is the second most consumed material after water, with nearly 3
tonnes used annually for each person in world.
The manufacturing process of cement consists of mixing, drying and grinding of
limestone, clay and silica into composite mass. The
Compare Woodchucks And Traveling Through The Dark
Human beings are often times very cruel to wild animals. The poems Woodchucks
by Maxine Kumin and Traveling through the Dark by William Stafford depict two
similar cruel interactions with animals. Both poems feature a narrator who treats
wild animals as lesser beings for the greater good . However, the narrators do not
share the same intentions and guilt. In the end though, both speakers show that they
believe they are in a position of higher value than these animals. In Woodchucks by
Maxine Kumin and Traveling through the Dark by William Stafford, use of diction,
imagery, and tone create a tense and brutal mood that reveals the relationship between
the speaker and the animals.
In the poems, the author s diction helps display the relationship shared between the
speaker and the animals. In Woodchucks , diction helps create a relationship where
the woodchucks deserve to be killed because the damage they ve done. Kumin uses
this as justification for the narrator s malicious slaughtering of the woodchucks; like
in line 12, the woodchucks are not eating the carrots, they are beheading them.
Replacing the word eating with beheading gives off a violent and negative
connotation directed towards the woodchucks. Traveling through the Dark uses a
similar strategy to make the animal seem less significant. In line 6, the dead deer is
described as a heap . Objects associated with the word heap are items of little to no
significance. Stafford exemplifies his use of diction

Social networking sites are web based and applications that allows users to
communicate via web to share their content or follow with other users. For example
the most well known online networking sites are Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
When you sign up to these sites it asked you to make a profile, which can be time
consuming, but you can alter it for your needs as an enjoyment. Online networking
has become a very significant piece of social communications inside our society. For
example when you meet another person, one of the principal things you do is include

compare free labor to paid work. Those that consider it pleasurable and a wonderful

This lead to a lot of frustration within her, when her trainees did not perform as well
as expected. This was because their failure undermined her own performance. This
phenomenon is explored in the 1975 paper by Julian B Rotter titled Some Problems
and Misconceptions Related to the Construct of Internal Versus External Control of
Reinforcement which aims to challenge the notion that having a strong internal locus
of control is always the better option of the two. The article states that the context of
the events and subsequent outcomes that the locus of control is being applied to
determines wether or not it is most beneficial to have an internal or external locus of
control(Rotter, 1975). In the case of events where the person has limited control over
the outcome of a situation due to many fluctuating external variables such as a doctor
trying to treat mutating virus or a manger being held accountable for the actions of a
noncompliant subordinate, it is imperative for a person to exercise a locus of control
geared closer towards that of an external locus of control. This prevents them from
over burdening themselves with factors they cannot
Post Puberty Estrogen
Estrogen
Estrogen is a steroid hormone which plays a crucial role in growth and maturation of
both sexes. In the female reproductive system, estrogen targets tissues such as
mammary glands, uterus, and ovaries. Bone formation has a significant positive
relationship with estrogen from puberty to maturation and beyond (Clark et al.,
1992). Post puberty estrogen is mainly synthesized and released from the ovaries in
females. Through binding proteins or estrogen receptors (ER) found within the
nucleus, estrogen is retained and affects specific target tissues throughout the body.
Binding of estrogen to its receptor causes conformational change which in turn allows
binding to chromatin and proceed with transcription of specific target genes (Murdoch

1993). Soybeans have the highest amount of isoflavones across food found in a
vegetarian diet; isoflavones are considered phytoestrogens. Phyotestrogens are plant
derived non steroidal compounds with structure similar to estrogen and cause an
estrogenic effect (Xu et al., 1998). Isoflavones have shown to have an antagonistic
effect on endogenous estrogen while also being able to cause biological action
(Morito et al., 2002). Soybean isoflavones have shown to have the same affinity to
receptors ERa and ERB as estrogen (Morito et al., 2001). The binding of exogenous
phytoestrogens in the form of isoflavones cause a reduction in endogenous estrogen
synthesized. Studies have shown the diminishing effects of isoflavones on estrogen.
In an earlier study it was concluded that endogenous estrogen levels were 15% lower
amongst subjects with the highest amount of soy protein intake compared to those
with low soy protein intake (Wu et al., 2002). This negative effect of soybean
isoflavones on endogenous estrogen may lead to a disruption in growth of the long
bone at the epiphyseal plate. In order to find the correlation and relationship of
soybean isoflavones (a soy vegetarian diet) on pre pubertal epiphyseal plate growth
on humans, a mouse model will be used. Bone formation has been mediated by
isoflavones with precipitous mineralization of long bone at the epiphyseal growth
plate (Morris et al., 2006). This study aims to find whether isoflavones from a high
soybean vegetarian diet plays a role in prepubescent human females at the epiphyseal
growth plate by using mice as models. Estrogen receptors will be quantitatively
assessed in order to find whether isoflavones have an upregulation of those receptors.
Lastly, an evaluation of the epiphyseal growth plate will be performed by
hematoxylin and eosin staining and immunohistochemical
The Social Impact Of Industrialization In The United States
Industrialization started because of new inventions, cheap labor, technology, and a
plethora of raw materials. Industrialization led to the rise of labor unions and
separation by classes socially. The culture of the United States changed drastically
because of immigrants coming to America. Industrialization affected the economy
because of industries growing fast and creating more jobs than ever before. The rise
of industry brought about many innovations that forever changed the United States.
The social impact of industrialization led to the the emergence of labor unions and
the separation of classes in cities. The american federation of labor was one of the
first trade unions that prospered. The leader was samuel gompers and he wanted
unions to become accepted into american society. He thought that the AFL
(american federation of labor) should work for the small gains such as higher
wages and better working conditions. Gompers had three main goals for the AFL.
He wanted to convince companies to recognize unions. He pushed for closed
shops which meant companies could only hire union members and an eight hour
work day. The Women s Trade Union League or WTUL was the first national
association dedicated to advocare women s labor issues. WTUL wanted in eight
hour work day, creation of minimum wage, no more evening work for women, and
the abolition of child labor. These unions helped create better working conditions for
people in years to come. When cities grew wealthy people, the middle class, and the
working class lived in different neighborhoods. The growth of cities was so fast that
crime, violence, fire, disease, and pollution became a big issue. The crowded urban
areas are where criminals thrived. The industrialization movement affected social
conditions in the United States....
Industrialization had a major impact on the United States culture. The many jobs
available led to a rush of immigration. This led people to have feelings of nativism
which is an extreme dislike for immigrants by native born people and they wanted to
limit immigration. A major anti immigrant organization in the Northeast and Midwest
was called the American Protective Association and they strongly disliked foreigners
and Catholics and
Social Roles In The Stanford Experiment
Research Paper
The stanford experiment was a study of how social roles can influence our
behavior. It was a simulation that was held at Stanford University, California in
1971. Individuals were randomly chosen to play the role of a prisoner or a guard .
Philip Zimbardo s theory was to know if having a social role can influence our
behavior. Once he began the experiment he proved that that people do change their
behavior when assigned to a social role, his experiment was a success to all those
who opposed.
Philip Zimbardo s experiment on prison life demonstrated how quickly an
individual can dissolve their own identity to fit into the social roles expected of
them (UK Essays). Those assigned to play the role of guard were given sticks and
sunglasses; those assigned to play the prisoner role were arrested by the Palo Alto
police department, deloused, forced to wear chains and prison garments, and
transported to the basement of the Stanford psychology department, which had been
converted into a makeshift jail. Several of the guards became progressively more
sadistic, particularly at night when they thought the cameras were off, despite being
picked by chance out of the same pool as the prisoner ( Zimbardo s Stanford Prison
Experiment ) Psychologist World. The prisoners were humiliated and embarrassed by
the guards. The guards were cruel and even made the prisoners do menial tasks. They
made the prisoners clean the toilet bowls with their bare hands rather than providing

Despite Gutenberg s initial financial troubles, his invention was well on its way to
creating a more educated and actively outspoken society. Thus, it is in the printing
press that we can see not only the birthplace of modern education, but also the
beginnings of what is now an online cultural movement.
In essence, the printing press did half of what needed to be done to fully realize
the craze of the Internet that is blogging: that is, it gave literacy, literature, and the
notion of free thought into the hands of the people. Still, new and radical minds
fueled by contemporary literature required a means of proclaiming their ideas, and
while a standard education certainly taught people how to write, the second half of
the story behind blogging lies in the development of writing tools that cater to the
individual (for Gutenberg s press was more a machine of the publishing industry
than it was a tool in the conscious act of writing). The past few centuries since the
invention of printing have seen numerous advancements in the way people write,
and as the total change has been as drastic as from quill to QWERTY, the arrival of
typewriters and computers may be recognized as the most recent step forward in the
evolution of writing towards the blog.

effective on the Japanese. The Japanese had several victories in the Pacific, it

Comparing Gilgamesh And The Code Of Hammurabi
In the writing found in earlier civilizations there is much evidence that proves
women in those societies possessed little rights. In the Code of Hammurabi there
were laws for both women and men, however most of the laws for women were
more like punishments. The laws were set in stone by the king Hammurabi and
were meant to further the well being of mankind he said. However, it is said that
there is an exception to every rule, in this case that would be The Epic of
Gilgamesh, another piece of writing set in the same place (but not the same time).
In this story, even though it took place in a society where women had close to no
value, they were depicted as powerful and wise. I will examine the portrayal of
women in both texts and discuss... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Their opponents do not score against them often in the movie.
In the movie, Coach Boone is a master motivator. He does an excellent job of
energizing his players, sustaining the motivation, directing the motivation to the
right players at the right time, and also knowing when to stop motivating. The
satisfaction progression hypothesis is also displayed in the movie. Coach Boone
knows that the small things, such as making the routine plays in the game, must be
done first before the main goal can be achieved, winning the game. He also has a
high expectancy of his team. He believes that the effort of his team will lead to
performance and that the performance will lead to results. He expects his team to
practice just as hard as they play in the game. Julius Campbell and Gary Bertier, the
two main characters on the team, are also excellent motivators. They get their
teammates pumped up before and during the game.
As with most sports teams, the Titans have an autocratic leadership style. Coach
Boone is the one and only person who makes the decisions, he is the main man in
charge. The style is productive, and the team wins games. Although he has assistant
coaches, such as Bill Yoast who is the defensive coordinator, all the decisions must
go through Coach Boone first. The democratic leadership style is not applicable on a
football team because that s why teams have coaches. The team does not make group
decisions. Coach Boone also uses Job Enlargement in Remember the
Uncle Tom s Cabin Essay
Uncle Tom s Cabin is a classic book about slavery. Set in Kentucky, middle 1800 s,
it gives readers a glimpse of what life would be like as a slave. Owned by a kind
slave owner, Mr. Shelby, Tom is the ideal slave, loyal, trustworthy and kind, but
when his master goes into debt, he is sold to a mean man that treats him cruelly.
Along with Tom, Harry, a young child, is to be sold, but when his mother, Eliza

freedom in Canada. In Uncle Tom s Cabin, the author, Harriet Beecher Stowe, uses
character types from older, traditional texts to make them seem new.
Stowe focuses on the hero aspect of Tom for the majority of the book. At one point
in the book, Harriet Beecher Stowe even states he is a hero. The text reads ...Uncle

Jane Addams, An Advocate Of Immigrants, The Poor,
Women,...
Explain who created the source and why.
Jane Addams was an upper class woman who thought it was her job to help others.
Addams was an advocate of immigrants, the poor, women, and peace. In 1889, she
created the hull house. The Hull house was created to help female immigrants
become assimilated to the American life style by helping get them a job, learn the
language, and receive an education. So it was no surprise that in in 1915, Jane
Addams wrote the life changing article Why Women Should Vote .
Discuss whether or not the writer was a neutral party. If not, explain the opinions or
interests that might have influenced what was written
During the 1900 s women were under the idea of the cult of domesticity. This
means that the women s place was in the home. They had jobs such as cooking,
cleaning, and caring for the children. In the article Why Women should Vote , it is
clear to see that Addams is biased and believes that women deserve the right to vote.
However, unlike other persuasive article Addams article is different, she believes
women should be able to vote but she doesn t bash the male population. She writes
an article where she says not only why women should get the vote or why women
should have the vote, but rather she talks about why women should vote and why it
is the responsibility of women to vote. Many women around the country felt

Napoleon Bonaparte Influence
Napoleon Bonaparte was a French military leader, who conquered numerous parts of
Europe in the 19th century, and later on became the first emperor of France. The
military leader was not born into a rich family, but instead commoners. In Napoleon s
early life, he attended school in France, until he got accepted into a military academy

the choices of Napoleon. After the National Assembly allowed Paoli, a traitor to the
Bonaparte family, back into the native land. The Bonaparte family did not have the
right to return to Corsica, and Napoleon was made a Frenchman because of it. When

youthful tyke or youthful grown up. Folks may feel uncomfortable examining sex
with their kids, on the other hand, it is essential talk that a guardian have with their

The Theme of Carpe Diem in Robert Herrick s To the Virgins to Make Much of Time
Robert Herrick s poem, To the Virgins to Make Much of Time, focuses on the idea of
carpe diem. More specifically, in this poem the idea of marriage while love and flesh
are still young should be heeded or one may suffer in their later years alone and
loveless. Herrick suggests that this gift of virginity might be a great waste if not
given while it is still desirable. Virginity is a gift for the simple reason that it can
only be given once to the taker of the prize, which he believes should be the husband.
Therefore, he says to go out and find husbands, for youth is not perpetual and will
eventually succumb to old age and loneliness. Through Herrick s ... Show more

As the glorious Lamp of Heaven, the sun, is rising and is reaching it s peak. The
sun is pictured as a marathon runner in line 7 with, The sooner will his Race be run.
And as with all good things in life there must be an end. The sun will then set and the
youthfulness of the virgins will fade. The choice of words that Herrick uses in the
second stanza such as getting, sooner, and neerer create a mood of urgency which
also leads to a degree of anxiety. Time is moving on in every aspect of nature and
beyond, and the virgins must come to realize that they must harness the same
momentum and move into the next levels of their lives marriage (Rollin 83).
Consistent with the idea of time being unconquerable, the third stanza agrees that
youth should be made advantage of but not to be taken for granted. Herrick simply
states, That Age is best, which is the first, When youth and blood are warmer. Youth
carries its own certain attractable energy that is possibly irresistible. Yet, Herrick
does not want the virgins to be deceived in believing that youth will last forever.
Time is personified once again as an opposition to youthfulness. In one foul swoop
time overcomes youth.
The final and fourth stanza is the most direct and powerful. The young women in
which the poem addresses are told not to be coy. For their receptivity to love is under
their control
The Issue Of A Constitutional Convention
Danny Chasteen and Susan Rick thought that they had finally gotten their big break
when they won $250,000 from the Illinois lottery. But, because the Illinois budget
had not passed, they received nothing but a cold promise. No, the lottery situation is
not the most pressing problem facing our government, it is merely a trivial
outgrowth of a bigger problem: political gridlock in the state legislature. A large
majority of the citizens of Illinoisare exasperated with the government, and they have
the right to be, but a Constitutional Conventionis not going to fix any of our problems.
Every state has its own dilemmas, and these issues can be solved through the
everyday political process. A Constitutional Convention is simply not necessary, when
the Constitutionitself is not what is holding back the Illinois State government.
What could possibly be the purpose of a Constitutional Convention? Is it to change
provisions on the state budget, income tax, or even school funding? All of these
subjects can be focused on individually, and changed through the already present
amendment procedures. In fact most of the Constitution itself can be changed
through this existing political process. The Constitution is a living breathing
document that is meant to change as its environment changes, which is the specific
purpose of amendments. Each provision should be dealt with individually, so as to
bring more attention to that specific problem. For instance, school budgeting or
pension reform
Pros And Cons Of Cruel And Unusual Punishment
The eighth amendment states that cruel and unusual punishment can not be
inflicted upon anyone. Although the eighth amendment does state that cruel and
unusual punishment can not be enforced the eighth amendment does not state
what cruel and unusual punishment actually should include. It is hard to decide
what punishments should be identified as cruel and unusual. I believe that there
should not be any terrible punishment that is pushed too far to handle although that
is my stand I also believe that some things have an excuse to enforce a cruel and
unusual punishment. Is death penalty cruel and unusual or should it be enforced
on certain people is a question that is commonly asked. Some people can do the
unthinkable crimes such as killing someone or even multiple people something
that you believe could never happen or maybe should never happen. Or maybe
something you think there should even be the possibility for it to happen. Or
maybe they raped or molested someone, or maybe hurt a kid or teenager. I
personally do not want people that can do this with no regret or thought to be able
to be in my life or even my world. I believe that there are certain cutoffs on who
should get the death penalty and who should not get the death penalty. People who
killed another human being or hurt a child in any severe way deserves the death
penalty. If that child or person does not have the right to live or even live a normal
life anymore then the person who did it should not have the right to live a normal life
or even a life at all. Someone who rob someone or even robs a bank or stole
something from a store should be locked up or put in prison. I believe that walking a
certain great amount or being forced to do hours of laborious work is cruel and
unusual but having a prison job and cold showers are not. Anyone who is in a
prison is most likely in there for a reason. The reason being they broke a law of
some sort. Or that person did something that they knew would end them up in jail
and still decided to do it anyways. If you can not stop yourself from doing
something that is harmful to yourself or others then you get to spend some time
working like everyone else does on a daily basis. Another common question asked is

Computer nowadays is a basic need for businesses or companies. It helps a lot in
such a way that it makes work more progressive and productive. It is an important
thing that a company or small business should have because it helps a lot in many
ways such as organizing, storing and manipulating data. Having computer
programs may help a company grow bigger and be competitive in the flow of the
business world. It helps a lot because almost all the companies nowadays uses
computer literate and very competitive in many aspects. Whatever kind of business
you manage, you are required by law to keep financial records relating to it.

African American Influence On Religion
In this section, I argue that Ethnicity plays a big role in deciding what religion you
will practice. This means that all ethnicities are closely tied in with particular
religions and this impacts every aspect of the persons lives. Therefore, based on the
religion you claim, you live your life a certain way.
One of the aspects in which this is shown is religion and politics. If you are devoted
to a specific religion and its teachings, it will impact the way you vote due the beliefs
you hold dear about your particular religion. This has a different meaning for Latinos
than it does for African Americans or Asian Americans. For example, Latino
Catholicism, which functions as a near monopolistic, highly institutionalized faith
tradition among Hispanics, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once again, my argument is to show how interconnected religion is to many
ethnicities across the US.
ii.States Exerting Role on Religion
In this section, I argue that every state plays a role in exerting their power to favor or
not favor a specific religion onto their constituents. In turn, their constituents are then
more keened to practicing the specific religion that the state makes accessible to them.
In the US in specifically, we know that Christianity is the dominant religion practiced
throughout the country with Catholicism being the highest practiced denomination.
Religion is so embedded in our culture that the Constitution gives you the freedom of
practicing any religion without being persecuted.
When the British Crown Colony of Hong Kong was in power, there was not much
room for freedom of religion. Once the government became the People s Republic
of China, there was more freedom of religion such as Christianity, Taoists, Buddhists
and Confucians. Politics and governments play an essential role in exerting their
power or not to allow certain religions to flourish or to give more preference to once

Essay on Contrasting Apollo Dionysus
Contrasting Apollo amp; Dionysus
In Greek mythology, Apollo and Dionysus are nearly opposites of one another, and
as with many opposites, life would not operate just quite right without both of them.
They each played a specific role for the Greeks. They had very different things
associated with them.
Apollo was often associated with logic and the power of the mind. He was basically
in charge of the Work section of the people. Logic is something the
Greeks used often, and when they didn t, things often happened for the worst. He is
also associated with intellect. The followers of Apollo would consist of those who
strongly believed in the things he was thought to control. These ... Show more content

Some things attributed to Dionysus are the dithyrambs, or choral hymns, sung for
him but the people. This was how they praised him. Drama is also directly
associated with him. Being the god of wine and the god of fertility led to some very
strange things in situations where Dionysus prevailed over Apollo. Many drunken
orgies took place during this time.
The Dionysion followers might be thought of as all the people who enjoyed wine, the
people who attended and enjoyed the Festival of Dionysus
(leading to perhaps all current people who enjoy the drama), and to those who
prayed for fertility. The Greeks also acknowledged the existence of Dionysus as much
as they did the existence of Apollo, so everyone who worshipped them dually would
also be a follower. This means that Dionysus probably had just as large a following as
Apollo, of not more because of the social aspect of life.
The status of Dionysus for religion is that the is the god of fertility, so the
dithyrambs that were in honor of Dionysus were also a way of praying for a good
harvest or for many children. Like Osiris, he was reborn after dying, and it is
believed that these festivals may be linked to ceremonies that took place in Egypt.
Most Greeks worshipped both Apollo and Dionysus. This acceptance of both their
existences brings about a balance of the two forces. It is
The Role of Inspector Goole in An Inspector Calls Essay
The Role of Inspector Goole in An Inspector Calls
In the work, An Inspector Calls, Inspector Goole role has been a described as a
staging device. Yet, defining Inspector Goole as meerly a staging device implies
that he is not a character in his own right but exists simply as a way of exploring
the personalities and lives of other, more fully rounded, characters. While it is true
that An Inspector Calls would not work without Inspector Goole s central role, it
reduces him a little to refer to him as just a staging device. In order to understand the
full significance of Inspector Goole, it is worth exploring how his primary role
works and then looking at what further significance JB Priestly attaches to him. ...

Yes, yes. Horrible business. But I don t understand why you should come here,
Inspector.
Neither does the audience at first, but Goole s slow unravelling of the connections
between Eva Smith and every member of the Birling household forms the central
fascinating strand of the plot.
The shape of his investigation is dictated by the needs of the audience rather than
strict police procedure. His questions to each member of the family re tell the
events of the final part of Eva Smith s life in chronological order, whereas a more
naturalistic approach would have been to start with the events immediately leading
up to the suicide and work backwards from there. Goole s statement about his
methods could just as easily be about the demands of the drama itself
It s the way I like to go to work. One person and one line of inquiry at a time.
Otherwise there s a muddle.
The chronological approach is also echoed by deepening moral lapses on the part
of the Birling household. Birling himself commits the mild sin of greed when he
has a disruptive union organiser sacked. Sheila is guilty of little more than a fit of
pique when she has the same girl dismissed from her job in a shop. Gerald and Eric
both commit fornication, but Eric compounds his sin with drunkenness, theft and
getting Eva (now known as Daisy Renton) pregnant. Mrs Birling adds hypocrisy to
her lack of Christian charity when
A Student Desk That Will Be More Efficient For The
Students
For my design I will do a student desk that will be more efficient for the students to
work on. The age range for the desk can be from third graders to any age student.
For the desk I will be creating, the gender does not matter. The occupation for my
desk will be for students to work on and also have extra things to meet their needs.
This deskI will be creating could be for anyone, ranging from an amateur to a
professional. The desk could be for non disabled students to disabled students. The
target customer for the desk would be mostly students. Students need to have a
better desk, but they also need a place to put their computers or i pads too. It s a
very difficult process to take out a computer then put the computer back when you
re done. Some computers are sometimes also broken because other students used it,
or not charged at all. So, I will be making a compartment at the corner of the desk
where the computer ,or whatever you have, will be in the compartment at all times.
When you need it, you just push the desk down and it will rise up to show anything
you need with a hole that you can put a charger through it. The compartment also
needs to be big enough so anything would fit in it. There are many desksout in the
world, but many desks aren t fit to be for a student. When I researched student
desks I found that many desks weren t made to be for students. The desks were
very tiny and not big enough to hold books in. Some desks don t even have a place
to put books
The Evidence for the Existence of Multiple Memory

The Evidence for the Existence of Multiple Memory Systems
Memory forms an important part of cognitive psychology and has been of interest to
numerous psychologists. This essay is going to refer specifically to the information
processing model of memory and will discuss the experimental evidence that exists
for multiple memory systems.
The multi store model of memory was first developed by Atkinson and Shiffrin
(1968) and Waugh and Norman (1965).[1] It comprises sensory stores, short term
store and long term store to form a model of memory and information processing.
One component of the system is the sensory register, where our feature detection and
pattern recognition processes produce a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This led Sperling to the hypothesis that one form of presentation of the visual
stimulation remains accessible for a short time after the presentation. It was Neisser
(1967) who proposed that this representation should be called an icon. Iconic storage
was claimed to be useless by some psychologists. Haber (1983) claimed it was
irrelevant to normal perception, as he assumed that the icon was created at the offset
of a visual stimulus, but it is actually created at its onset.[3] Therefore, even with a
continuously changing visual world, iconic information is still useful.
The Echoic store is a transient auditory store, holding relatively unprocessed input. It
is similar to the iconic store except it refers to auditory rather than visual stimuli.
Treisman (1964) conducted experiments in this area and found that the temporal
duration of unattended auditory information in echoic storage is about two seconds.
Short term memory is another component of the multi store model. Our short term
memory is said to require the allocation of cognitive resources (Atkinson Shiffrin
1968). Peterson Peterson (1959) conducted the classic study of short term
Tsunami Response Paper
Research by Goff et al.(2014) stated the following:
The traditional term tsunami means harbour wave (tsu: harbour, nami: wave)..., a
tsunami is specifically described as a series of travelling waves of extremely long
length and period, usually generated by disturbances associated with earthquakes
occurring below or near the ocean floor.
Tsunami are commonly often associate with an earthquake but not all earthquakes
generates tsunami. It depends on the movement of earth s plate. If earth s plate
moved vertically much damage from tsunami would occur. For example, on
December,26, 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami shook Indonesia and killed
an estimated 230,000 people, most due to the tsunami and the lack of aid afterward.

JetStream featured, Tsunamis range in size from inches to over a hundred feet. In
deep water (greater than 600 feet/180 meters). As JetStream also emphasized that the
wave height can increase by over 10 times as tsunamis propagate into shallow water,
and the waves can be amplified by shoreline and bathymetric (seafloor) features,
Cheng and Weiss (2013) researched the link between the onshore slope, initial
amplitude and the difference between the maximum tsunami inundation and inland
sediment by observing from 2011 Tohoku oki tsunami in Sendai. Cheng and Weiss
(2013) found that for sand the grain size has little effect on the deposition ratio, but
initial amplitude and slope influence the deposition ratio; steep slopes and low
amplitudes have the most sensitive effect on deposition ratio. Thus, Cheng and Weiss
(2013) argued that the application of the deposition ratio will improve tsunami hazard
assessments by providing a geophysically more realistic inundation limit than the
cases where only the inland extent of tsunami sediment is taken into account. Goto et
al. (2014) also seemed to agree with Cheng and Weiss s research, as they stated For
disaster prevention purpose, geological research is undoubtedly of great value to
tsunami risk assessment...we should be considering what the most
The Sarbanes-Oxley Act
Drawbaugh and Aubin (2012) took the opportunity with the ten year anniversary of
the Sarbanes Oxley Act to analyze whether the act has been effective. Passed in 2002
amid a wave of accounting scandals, Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) was intended to
strengthen the accounting, auditing and reporting of public companies and boost
investor confidence in the US financial system.
The authors note that in general Sarbanes Oxley has succeeded in its mandate. There
have not been, for example, any of the corporate accounting scandals of the Enron or
Worldcom type that occurred before the law came into effect. There have been
scandals in business, and failures, but none fell under the auspices of Sarbanes
Oxley. The failures of AIG and Lehman Brothers did not occur because of
accounting scandals but rather because of business failures of other types. The
Bernie Madoff scandal has also been cited by some SOX opponents, but that did not
occur with a public company and was therefore not under the auspices of SOX either.
There have been repeated criticisms from business about the onerous nature of the
legislation. It costs a lot of money to implement, for example, which restricts access
to capital for smaller companies, who might choose to forgo equity markets for
longer in order to avoid the provisions of Sarbanes Oxley. There remain members of
Congress who are opposed to the Act and there is fierce opposition to the
strengthening of the Public Companies Accounting Oversight Board
Understanding Identity A solitarist Approach
When understanding identity a solitarist approach is, in general, a very efficient way
of misunderstanding nearly everyone in the world. As Amartya Sen explains, a single
minded perception of oneness with our respective civilizations [sic] disregards the
multiple and complex identities that belong to each human being. Sen states it must
also be recognized that reductionist cultivation of singular identities has indeed been
responsible for a good deal of what we call engineered bloodshed across the world.
History has demonstrated how a particular group identity becomes a target in war, for
example, the Jews were persecuted during the Second World War, but it should be
noted that before the war, 80% of the Jews were also German citizens. Furthermore,
Sen advocates for a deeper understanding of the multiplicities of identities to combat
the integration of violence geared toward the cultivated singularity. When conflict
arises the identities of the opposing groups can become a target for attack. Neal
Ascherson, declares that war can damage two different, though related, types of
identity: a social identity belonging to people within their community, and a
collective or group identity which has been constructed around high art , considered
to constitute a national heritage. Benedict Anderson describes modern nationalism as
an imagined community, where although each person may not know one another in a
nation state, they share a common identity that is
What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Euro In
Euro
The euro is now used by 18 of the 28 member states of the European Union. On the
1st January 1999 the euro was first introduced as a virtual currency. It was originally
used as a currency to exchange between countries in the European Union while the
countries continued on using their own different currencies for domestic trade. The
eurowas introduced in Ireland when the physical euro became the standard currency
in Europe three years later on the 1st of January 2002.
It was created to establish monetary union within the European Union under the
provisions that were set out in the 1992 Maastricht Treaty. This Treaty outlined that
member states using the euro must follow strict guidelines such as having a debt less
than sixty percent of GDP ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The single currency makes international trade easier as there is more transparency
of prices when there are less currencies to convert between to see where offers the
best deal. Buyers from different countries can easily see where they will get the best
bargain from because all the prices will be in euro and they won t have to worry
about converting prices.
A disadvantage of the euro is that traders around the world looking to buy the euro
will look at whether to buy euros depending on the national economies of the
countries using the euro. So if there are negative reports about a few economies, the
euro exchange rate as a whole may fall, despite the economies of all the other
member states being okay.
The euro promotes trade and investment from global businesses outside the Eurozone
which helps boost the European economy. Countries outside the Eurozone find the
single currency an attractive quality to have in European countries to outsource their
businesses in. Careful economic management within the EU makes the euro an
attractive and strong currency. Having a single currency throughout almost all of
Europe makes the euro more powerful in the global

Citing Essays. Citation in an essay. How to Put a Quote in an Essay. 2019-02-20

  • 1. Citing Essays Composing an essay on the subject of "Citing Essays" may initially seem like a straightforward task, but delving into the intricacies of proper citation and its multifaceted nature can prove to be quite challenging. The difficulty lies not only in understanding the various citation styles such as APA, MLA, or Chicago but also in implementing them accurately throughout the essay. To begin with, one must meticulously research and grasp the specific guidelines associated with the chosen citation style. Each style comes with its own set of rules regarding the citation of different sources, including books, articles, websites, and more. Ensuring consistency and precision in adhering to these guidelines can be a meticulous process that demands attention to detail. Moreover, the challenge extends beyond mere mechanical adherence to citation rules. Crafting an essay on citing essays requires a profound understanding of the importance of proper citation in academic writing. One must delve into the reasons behind citing sources, exploring concepts such as intellectual property, academic integrity, and the acknowledgment of the scholarly contributions of others. Additionally, the writer must skillfully integrate citations into the flow of the essay, striking a balance between demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the topic and acknowledging the scholarly discourse that precedes their work. This requires finesse in blending personal insights with information gleaned from external sources, all while maintaining the coherence and originality of the essay. In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of "Citing Essays" demands more than just a basic understanding of citation styles. It necessitates a deep dive into the intricacies of each style, a nuanced appreciation for the underlying principles of proper citation, and the ability to seamlessly incorporate citations into the broader narrative. • 2. Cost, Access And Quality Cost, Access and Quality Stephanie Mathews Simon Castro Michael Jordan Kevin Richter Grand Canyon University HLT 205 September 21, 2014 Dr. Thacker Cost, Access and Quality Introduction Cost has different perspectives depending on whom we are speaking about. Consumers refer to cost in reference to the price of healthcare, bills to insurance or payments to doctors directly. Nationally we refer to healthcare spending as a reflection of all healthcare spending that occurs in the nation and is normally measured in a percentage of the Gross domestic product or GDP. Provider costs are seen as the cost to pay staff, buying medical equipment and capital costs for buildings and the maintenance of the buildings infrastructure (Shi Singh, 2005). A major contributor to the rise of healthcare cost is that heath spending for individuals is primarily funded by third parties. Because consumers of healthcare share little of the financial burden of the cost of the care they receive, patients and physicians are incentivized to utilize healthcare at a higher rate than they would if cost was a larger factor. The United States healthcare systems is based on a capitalist system but it operates in an imperfect marketplace that is no competitive. The current marketplace is not highly regulated as there is not a national health care program for all Americans which allow prices to be regulated and controlled effectively by a single regulating body. In this imperfect
  • 3. The Core Values Of Zappos The holacratic model has, already, been adopted by for profit and non profit organizations in several countries. For the purpose of an incubation chamber, Zappos.com has been the first organizational reality to deploy it. Zappos is an online shoe and clothing shop founded in 1999 and owned by Amazon since 2009. During the negotiations with Amazon, internal management s primary concern was to maintain the company culture intact throughout the acquisition process, because a culture that embraces the idiosyncrasies of each individual is what keeps the firm alive and healthy. Such an emphasis on employees manifested itself in drawing up the ten core values of the Zappos family: deliver wow through service; embrace and drive change; create fun and a little weirdness; be adventurous, creative, and open minded; pursue growth and learning; build open and honest relationships with communication; build a positive team and family spirit; do more with less; be passionate and determined; be humble. The company has, even, its own consulting unit to help others emulate the Zappos way and folklore. In 2015, Zappos formerly adopted Holacracy. One of Holacracy s most significant innovations is making governance something that happens at every level of the organization. Governance becomes an ongoing process that happens in each circle, during the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The business of designing and developing games also fits these criteria well, as Valve discovered. From Holacracy, in fact, Valve took the flat organizational structure , the focus on project teams and the fluidity of roles: everyone is a strategist , everyone is a designer, everyone can rightfully question each other s
  • 4. An Analysis of the Choice Between Separated and Mixed... An analysis of the choice between separated and mixed operation model for ICBC( London) Abstract: Since the fifth wave of Merge and Acquisition in the 1990s, the global banking industries have developed towards the direction of large scale, international and omnipotent banks. The mixed operation of the commercial banks had already been the leading trend in the 21st century. With China s entrance into WTO at the end of last century, the Chinese financial institutions, especially the Chinese bank industries, are destined to participate in the global economy and to face the keen competition from the financial conglomerate of the western developed countries. The commercial banks still operate separately at present according to the law.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The competition among commercial banks increased. Especially, after joining WTO, Chinese state owned commercial banks face more direct threat from foreign competition. However, China s Commercial Bank Law clearly provides the current business model of commercial banks is separate operation, separate supervision (Qu and Sun, 2006). Also as the renovation of technology and the continuous development of the world s financial markets, the various financial derivatives have been promoted. Meanwhile, the integration between different financial sectors gradually strengthened. The original separated operation and supervision mechanism hinder the innovation of financial system and enhancement of service efficiency. ICBC (London) is facing the level of competition in the financial sector will become more intense, which requires the development under the British FSA s supervision. It must keep the pace of the international financial banks. That means the mixed operation will be the future development direction. To reach this argument, this paper will be based on the primary and secondary data of operation performance of HSBC and ICBC operated in UK, and analyze the result of comparison to conduct the appropriate choice of operation model for ICBC operating
  • 5. The Wiggles Research Paper Australian children s group the Wiggles were formed in Sydney, New South Wales in 1991. The four founding members of the Wiggles were Anthony Field, Phillip Wilcher, Murray Cook, Greg Page, and Jeff Fatt. The current members of the wiggles include Anthony Field, Lachlan Gillespie, Simon Pryce, and Emma Watkins. The Wiggles started as a TV show on the Australian Broadcasting Company (ABC) with the company also helping them to promote their first album, the album cost approximately AUD $4,000 to produce and it sold 100,000 copies in 1991. The Wiggles started with small audiences averaging around 300 people during combination shows with other ABC performers, when the wiggles reached crowds of 500 people coming just to see them they started performing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They have earned several Platinum, Double Platinum and Multi Platinum records, as well as sold 23 million DVDs and seven million CDs, and have performed, on average, to one million people per year. The group has also earned multiple Australasian Performing Rights Association (APRA) and Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Music Awards. Through the rest of the 1990s, The Wiggles maintained a busy recording and touring schedule, becoming as Field reported and despite his strong dislike of touring, the hardest working touring act in the country . Eventually, they moved to larger arenas such as the Beacon Theatre and Madison Square Garden. They performed at SeaWorld in Orlando, Florida for six weeks. Their audiences began to increase, and they toured Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, the US, and the UK. Beginning in 2002, The Wiggles filmed four seasons worth of shows exclusively with the ABC. The network called them the most successful property that the ABC has represented in the pre school genre . By the end of 2002, according to Field, we knew we were involved in something extraordinary in the
  • 6. Culture Vs American Culture I can vividly recall one warm summer night in Dallas,Texas when my entire family and I were huddled around a tiny 27 inch television. We were anxiously watching one of the most infamous rivalries in sport: India versus Pakistan. I did not quite understand what was happening in the match, but judging by the anxious look on my family s faces, I could tell that the game was very close and intense. I remember my dad and uncles talking about strategies Pakistanshould use to win, debating back and forth on what would be the best move. Unfortunately, moments later, everybody went quiet, as only sighs and groans filled the room. Pakistan had just lost. Seeing the somber faces around the room, I realized how important cricket was to my family, and how it was a pivotal aspect of their collective identity; how a simple sporting match was able to bring people together,... For example, while most children were watching cartoons like SpongeBob SquarePants or simply American sports, I remember watching Cricket (the most popular sport in Pakistan) and a South Asian crime drama, called CID . While some of my friends would have meatloaf for dinner, I would have Pakistani dishes like Nihari and Biryani. I communicated with my parents almost exclusively in Urdu, the official language of Pakistan. And while most of my friends would go to a church in a suit and tie, I would go to a mosque, wearing a traditional Pakistani outfit, known as a Shalwar Kurta . Pakistani and American cultures differ in many ways, and it is by experiencing both of these cultures simultaneously, and effectively assimilating into American society, that had an integral role in shaping the person that I have become today, not only in terms of my personality but also in the way I live my

Lizzie Borden Murder The Murders in Fall River On August 4, 1892 at 92 Second Street in Fall River Massachusetts, stepmom Abby and father, Andrew Borden were slaughtered by an axe in their home ( The Trial of Lizzie Borden ). Lizzie s biological mother died in 1862, and her father Andrew remarried the spinstress, Abby Durfee Gray. Since it was a stepmother to be murdered, it raised the question as to if Lizzie really liked her stepmother. Abby s body was in the guest room, murdered an hour before Andrew, who was on a sofa. Lizzie, their daughter, was first suspected then convicted based on the evidence. A year later she was pronounced innocent. Three days later, on August 9th, Lizzie started to be questioned in the courtroom over police headquarters. During the first four hours of the examination Lizzie gave confusing and contradicting information pertaining to where she was and what she was doing. Two days later, on August 11th, Lizzie was read her rights and arrested by Chief Hillard for the murder of her parents. The following day Lizzie made a plea of not guilty to the charges against her before being transported by rail car to a jail located in Taunton, an area located eight miles from Fall River. August 22nd Lizzie was returned to the Fall River courtroom for her preliminary hearing, after a criminal complaint has been filed by the prosecutor, next is to determine whether there is enough evidence to require a trial. At the end of the hearing, Judge Josiah Blaisdell pronounced Lizzie as probably guilty and ordered her to face a grand jury. From November 15th to the 21st Lizzie faced the grand jury to plead not guilty. It wasn t until December first, that a testimony was made against Lizzie by a friend of the families. Alex Russell appeared before the grand jury to make his statement about the blue dress he saw Lizzie burn. Lizzie responded with the fact that the dress was covered in old paint. The question then is, why was she burning it the day of the murders? The statement from Russell matched with an earlier testimony made by Bridget, she claimed Lizzie was wearing a blue dress the morning of the murders. Since both testimonies matched, it was enough evidence to convince the jury to indict, formally accuse of or charge with a serious crime, Lizzie for the murder of her parents. On June 5th, 1893 Andrew Jennings and George Robinson represented the defendant while Knowlton and Thomas Moody argued the case of the prosecution. Moody opened the case with a two hour long speech while

Transcendentalism In The Lesson Of The Moth By Don Marquis The poem the lesson of the moth written by Don Marquis, reflects many ideas found in Transcendentalism and in the story of Chris McCandless. The poem focuses in on the beauty of life. It suggests that we get bored with the routine (Marquis 18). This relates to many Transcendentalist beliefs which are represented throughout multiple of Emerson and Thoreau s pieces. Transcendentalism has many core beliefs such as: individualism, going into nature, trusting one s self, and living a minimalistic life. McCandless went out and followed his true aspiration and showed individualism in doing so. This is a key factor in Transcendentalism, to be an individual. While McCandless was on his journey, he views people in a similar light as the moth had in which they are too civilized to enjoy themselves (Marquis 42). This is also shown in some of the Transcendentalist principles written by Thoreau, believing that people are too involved with other people s lives and concerns that there is no time for one to release and relax. This principle reveals how many people are not taking care of themselves and their own well being. Humans show many signs and are guided to strive for altruism, in practicing a selfless concern for the well being of others. Yet, this action is contradictory in some Transcendentalist ideals. From the poem the lesson of the moth , to the Transcendentalist ideologies, and even Chris McCandless s journey, there is a pattern of self care and being concerned for one s well being. This is something many fear, yet are still attracted towards due to the potential excitement and happiness it could bring them. This, however, would call for that person to abandon

  • 22. Compare Woodchucks And Traveling Through The Dark Human beings are often times very cruel to wild animals. The poems Woodchucks by Maxine Kumin and Traveling through the Dark by William Stafford depict two similar cruel interactions with animals. Both poems feature a narrator who treats wild animals as lesser beings for the greater good . However, the narrators do not share the same intentions and guilt. In the end though, both speakers show that they believe they are in a position of higher value than these animals. In Woodchucks by Maxine Kumin and Traveling through the Dark by William Stafford, use of diction, imagery, and tone create a tense and brutal mood that reveals the relationship between the speaker and the animals. In the poems, the author s diction helps display the relationship shared between the speaker and the animals. In Woodchucks , diction helps create a relationship where the woodchucks deserve to be killed because the damage they ve done. Kumin uses this as justification for the narrator s malicious slaughtering of the woodchucks; like in line 12, the woodchucks are not eating the carrots, they are beheading them. Replacing the word eating with beheading gives off a violent and negative connotation directed towards the woodchucks. Traveling through the Dark uses a similar strategy to make the animal seem less significant. In line 6, the dead deer is described as a heap . Objects associated with the word heap are items of little to no significance. Stafford exemplifies his use of diction

This was because their failure undermined her own performance. This phenomenon is explored in the 1975 paper by Julian B Rotter titled Some Problems and Misconceptions Related to the Construct of Internal Versus External Control of Reinforcement which aims to challenge the notion that having a strong internal locus of control is always the better option of the two. The article states that the context of the events and subsequent outcomes that the locus of control is being applied to determines wether or not it is most beneficial to have an internal or external locus of control(Rotter, 1975). In the case of events where the person has limited control over the outcome of a situation due to many fluctuating external variables such as a doctor trying to treat mutating virus or a manger being held accountable for the actions of a noncompliant subordinate, it is imperative for a person to exercise a locus of control geared closer towards that of an external locus of control. This prevents them from over burdening themselves with factors they cannot
  • 26. Post Puberty Estrogen Estrogen Estrogen is a steroid hormone which plays a crucial role in growth and maturation of both sexes. In the female reproductive system, estrogen targets tissues such as mammary glands, uterus, and ovaries. Bone formation has a significant positive relationship with estrogen from puberty to maturation and beyond (Clark et al., 1992). Post puberty estrogen is mainly synthesized and released from the ovaries in females. Through binding proteins or estrogen receptors (ER) found within the nucleus, estrogen is retained and affects specific target tissues throughout the body. Binding of estrogen to its receptor causes conformational change which in turn allows binding to chromatin and proceed with transcription of specific target genes (Murdoch ... Phyotestrogens are plant derived non steroidal compounds with structure similar to estrogen and cause an estrogenic effect (Xu et al., 1998). Isoflavones have shown to have an antagonistic effect on endogenous estrogen while also being able to cause biological action (Morito et al., 2002). Soybean isoflavones have shown to have the same affinity to receptors ERa and ERB as estrogen (Morito et al., 2001). The binding of exogenous phytoestrogens in the form of isoflavones cause a reduction in endogenous estrogen synthesized. Studies have shown the diminishing effects of isoflavones on estrogen. In an earlier study it was concluded that endogenous estrogen levels were 15% lower amongst subjects with the highest amount of soy protein intake compared to those with low soy protein intake (Wu et al., 2002). This negative effect of soybean isoflavones on endogenous estrogen may lead to a disruption in growth of the long bone at the epiphyseal plate. In order to find the correlation and relationship of soybean isoflavones (a soy vegetarian diet) on pre pubertal epiphyseal plate growth on humans, a mouse model will be used. Bone formation has been mediated by isoflavones with precipitous mineralization of long bone at the epiphyseal growth plate (Morris et al., 2006). This study aims to find whether isoflavones from a high soybean vegetarian diet plays a role in prepubescent human females at the epiphyseal growth plate by using mice as models. Estrogen receptors will be quantitatively assessed in order to find whether isoflavones have an upregulation of those receptors. Lastly, an evaluation of the epiphyseal growth plate will be performed by hematoxylin and eosin staining and immunohistochemical
  • 27. The Social Impact Of Industrialization In The United States Industrialization started because of new inventions, cheap labor, technology, and a plethora of raw materials. Industrialization led to the rise of labor unions and separation by classes socially. The culture of the United States changed drastically because of immigrants coming to America. Industrialization affected the economy because of industries growing fast and creating more jobs than ever before. The rise of industry brought about many innovations that forever changed the United States. The social impact of industrialization led to the the emergence of labor unions and the separation of classes in cities. The american federation of labor was one of the first trade unions that prospered. The leader was samuel gompers and he wanted unions to become accepted into american society. He thought that the AFL (american federation of labor) should work for the small gains such as higher wages and better working conditions. Gompers had three main goals for the AFL. He wanted to convince companies to recognize unions. He pushed for closed shops which meant companies could only hire union members and an eight hour work day. The Women s Trade Union League or WTUL was the first national association dedicated to advocare women s labor issues. WTUL wanted in eight hour work day, creation of minimum wage, no more evening work for women, and the abolition of child labor. These unions helped create better working conditions for people in years to come. When cities grew wealthy people, the middle class, and the working class lived in different neighborhoods. The growth of cities was so fast that crime, violence, fire, disease, and pollution became a big issue. The crowded urban areas are where criminals thrived. The industrialization movement affected social conditions in the United States.... Industrialization had a major impact on the United States culture. The many jobs available led to a rush of immigration. This led people to have feelings of nativism which is an extreme dislike for immigrants by native born people and they wanted to limit immigration. A major anti immigrant organization in the Northeast and Midwest was called the American Protective Association and they strongly disliked foreigners and Catholics and
  • 28. Social Roles In The Stanford Experiment Research Paper The stanford experiment was a study of how social roles can influence our behavior. It was a simulation that was held at Stanford University, California in 1971. Individuals were randomly chosen to play the role of a prisoner or a guard . Philip Zimbardo s theory was to know if having a social role can influence our behavior. Once he began the experiment he proved that that people do change their behavior when assigned to a social role, his experiment was a success to all those who opposed. Philip Zimbardo s experiment on prison life demonstrated how quickly an individual can dissolve their own identity to fit into the social roles expected of them (UK Essays). Those assigned to play the role of guard were given sticks and sunglasses; those assigned to play the prisoner role were arrested by the Palo Alto police department, deloused, forced to wear chains and prison garments, and transported to the basement of the Stanford psychology department, which had been converted into a makeshift jail. Several of the guards became progressively more sadistic, particularly at night when they thought the cameras were off, despite being picked by chance out of the same pool as the prisoner ( Zimbardo s Stanford Prison Experiment ) Psychologist World. The prisoners were humiliated and embarrassed by the guards. The guards were cruel and even made the prisoners do menial tasks. Despite Gutenberg s initial financial troubles, his invention was well on its way to creating a more educated and actively outspoken society. Thus, it is in the printing press that we can see not only the birthplace of modern education, but also the beginnings of what is now an online cultural movement. In essence, the printing press did half of what needed to be done to fully realize the craze of the Internet that is blogging: that is, it gave literacy, literature, and the notion of free thought into the hands of the people. Still, new and radical minds fueled by contemporary literature required a means of proclaiming their ideas, and while a standard education certainly taught people how to write, the second half of the story behind blogging lies in the development of writing tools that cater to the individual (for Gutenberg s press was more a machine of the publishing industry than it was a tool in the conscious act of writing). The past few centuries since the invention of printing have seen numerous advancements in the way people write, and as the total change has been as drastic as from quill to QWERTY, the arrival of typewriters and computers may be recognized as the most recent step forward in the evolution of writing towards the blog. The satisfaction progression hypothesis is also displayed in the movie. Coach Boone knows that the small things, such as making the routine plays in the game, must be done first before the main goal can be achieved, winning the game. He also has a high expectancy of his team. He believes that the effort of his team will lead to performance and that the performance will lead to results. Folks may feel uncomfortable examining sex with their kids, on the other hand, it is essential talk that a guardian have with their tyke (Byers, Sears, Weaver, 2008). By setting a decent case, giving a domain, and data about sex would imply that the tyke would have a superior shot of what the future wholes for them both sexual and rationally. More specifically, in this poem the idea of marriage while love and flesh are still young should be heeded or one may suffer in their later years alone and loveless. Herrick suggests that this gift of virginity might be a great waste if not given while it is still desirable. The choice of words that Herrick uses in the second stanza such as getting, sooner, and neerer create a mood of urgency which also leads to a degree of anxiety. Time is moving on in every aspect of nature and beyond, and the virgins must come to realize that they must harness the same momentum and move into the next levels of their lives marriage (Rollin 83). Consistent with the idea of time being unconquerable, the third stanza agrees that youth should be made advantage of but not to be taken for granted. Herrick simply states, That Age is best, which is the first, When youth and blood are warmer. Youth carries its own certain attractable energy that is possibly irresistible. Yet, Herrick does not want the virgins to be deceived in believing that youth will last forever. Time is personified once again as an opposition to youthfulness. In one foul swoop time overcomes youth. The final and fourth stanza is the most direct and powerful. The young women in which the poem addresses are told not to be coy. But, because the Illinois budget had not passed, they received nothing but a cold promise. No, the lottery situation is not the most pressing problem facing our government, it is merely a trivial outgrowth of a bigger problem: political gridlock in the state legislature. A large majority of the citizens of Illinoisare exasperated with the government, and they have the right to be, but a Constitutional Conventionis not going to fix any of our problems. Every state has its own dilemmas, and these issues can be solved through the everyday political process. A Constitutional Convention is simply not necessary, when the Constitutionitself is not what is holding back the Illinois State government. What could possibly be the purpose of a Constitutional Convention? Is it to change provisions on the state budget, income tax, or even school funding? All of these subjects can be focused on individually, and changed through the already present amendment procedures. In fact most of the Constitution itself can be changed through this existing political process. The Constitution is a living breathing document that is meant to change as its environment changes, which is the specific purpose of amendments. Each provision should be dealt with individually, so as to bring more attention to that specific problem. For instance, school budgeting or pension reform
  • 41. Pros And Cons Of Cruel And Unusual Punishment The eighth amendment states that cruel and unusual punishment can not be inflicted upon anyone. Although the eighth amendment does state that cruel and unusual punishment can not be enforced the eighth amendment does not state what cruel and unusual punishment actually should include. It is hard to decide what punishments should be identified as cruel and unusual. I believe that there should not be any terrible punishment that is pushed too far to handle although that is my stand I also believe that some things have an excuse to enforce a cruel and unusual punishment. Is death penalty cruel and unusual or should it be enforced on certain people is a question that is commonly asked. Some people can do the unthinkable crimes such as killing someone or even multiple people something that you believe could never happen or maybe should never happen. Or maybe something you think there should even be the possibility for it to happen. Or maybe they raped or molested someone, or maybe hurt a kid or teenager. I personally do not want people that can do this with no regret or thought to be able to be in my life or even my world. I believe that there are certain cutoffs on who should get the death penalty and who should not get the death penalty. People who killed another human being or hurt a child in any severe way deserves the death penalty. If that child or person does not have the right to live or even live a normal life anymore then the person who did it should not have the right to live a normal life or even a life at all. Someone who rob someone or even robs a bank or stole something from a store should be locked up or put in prison. I believe that walking a certain great amount or being forced to do hours of laborious work is cruel and unusual but having a prison job and cold showers are not. Anyone who is in a prison is most likely in there for a reason. The reason being they broke a law of some sort. Or that person did something that they knew would end them up in jail and still decided to do it anyways. If you can not stop yourself from doing something that is harmful to yourself or others then you get to spend some time working like everyone else does on a daily basis. Being the god of wine and the god of fertility led to some very strange things in situations where Dionysus prevailed over Apollo. Many drunken orgies took place during this time. The Dionysion followers might be thought of as all the people who enjoyed wine, the people who attended and enjoyed the Festival of Dionysus (leading to perhaps all current people who enjoy the drama), and to those who prayed for fertility. The Greeks also acknowledged the existence of Dionysus as much as they did the existence of Apollo, so everyone who worshipped them dually would also be a follower. This means that Dionysus probably had just as large a following as Apollo, of not more because of the social aspect of life. The status of Dionysus for religion is that the is the god of fertility, so the dithyrambs that were in honor of Dionysus were also a way of praying for a good harvest or for many children. Like Osiris, he was reborn after dying, and it is believed that these festivals may be linked to ceremonies that took place in Egypt. Most Greeks worshipped both Apollo and Dionysus. This acceptance of both their existences brings about a balance of the two forces. It is
  • 46. The Role of Inspector Goole in An Inspector Calls Essay The Role of Inspector Goole in An Inspector Calls In the work, An Inspector Calls, Inspector Goole role has been a described as a staging device. Yet, defining Inspector Goole as meerly a staging device implies that he is not a character in his own right but exists simply as a way of exploring the personalities and lives of other, more fully rounded, characters. While it is true that An Inspector Calls would not work without Inspector Goole s central role, it reduces him a little to refer to him as just a staging device. In order to understand the full significance of Inspector Goole, it is worth exploring how his primary role works and then looking at what further significance JB Priestly attaches to him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yes, yes. Horrible business. But I don t understand why you should come here, Inspector. Neither does the audience at first, but Goole s slow unravelling of the connections between Eva Smith and every member of the Birling household forms the central fascinating strand of the plot. The shape of his investigation is dictated by the needs of the audience rather than strict police procedure. His questions to each member of the family re tell the events of the final part of Eva Smith s life in chronological order, whereas a more naturalistic approach would have been to start with the events immediately leading up to the suicide and work backwards from there. Goole s statement about his methods could just as easily be about the demands of the drama itself It s the way I like to go to work. One person and one line of inquiry at a time. Otherwise there s a muddle. The chronological approach is also echoed by deepening moral lapses on the part of the Birling household. Birling himself commits the mild sin of greed when he has a disruptive union organiser sacked. Sheila is guilty of little more than a fit of pique when she has the same girl dismissed from her job in a shop. Gerald and Eric both commit fornication, but Eric compounds his sin with drunkenness, theft and getting Eva (now known as Daisy Renton) pregnant. Mrs Birling adds hypocrisy to her lack of Christian charity when
  • 47. A Student Desk That Will Be More Efficient For The Students For my design I will do a student desk that will be more efficient for the students to work on. The age range for the desk can be from third graders to any age student. For the desk I will be creating, the gender does not matter. The occupation for my desk will be for students to work on and also have extra things to meet their needs. This deskI will be creating could be for anyone, ranging from an amateur to a professional. The desk could be for non disabled students to disabled students. The target customer for the desk would be mostly students. Students need to have a better desk, but they also need a place to put their computers or i pads too. It s a very difficult process to take out a computer then put the computer back when you re done. Some computers are sometimes also broken because other students used it, or not charged at all. So, I will be making a compartment at the corner of the desk where the computer ,or whatever you have, will be in the compartment at all times. When you need it, you just push the desk down and it will rise up to show anything you need with a hole that you can put a charger through it. The compartment also needs to be big enough so anything would fit in it. There are many desksout in the world, but many desks aren t fit to be for a student. When I researched student desks I found that many desks weren t made to be for students. The desks were very tiny and not big enough to hold books in. Some desks don t even have a place to put books
  • 48. The Evidence for the Existence of Multiple Memory Systems... The Evidence for the Existence of Multiple Memory Systems Memory forms an important part of cognitive psychology and has been of interest to numerous psychologists. This essay is going to refer specifically to the information processing model of memory and will discuss the experimental evidence that exists for multiple memory systems. The multi store model of memory was first developed by Atkinson and Shiffrin (1968) and Waugh and Norman (1965).[1] It comprises sensory stores, short term store and long term store to form a model of memory and information processing. One component of the system is the sensory register, where our feature detection and pattern recognition processes produce a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This led Sperling to the hypothesis that one form of presentation of the visual stimulation remains accessible for a short time after the presentation. It was Neisser (1967) who proposed that this representation should be called an icon. Iconic storage was claimed to be useless by some psychologists. Haber (1983) claimed it was irrelevant to normal perception, as he assumed that the icon was created at the offset of a visual stimulus, but it is actually created at its onset.[3] Therefore, even with a continuously changing visual world, iconic information is still useful. The Echoic store is a transient auditory store, holding relatively unprocessed input. It is similar to the iconic store except it refers to auditory rather than visual stimuli. Treisman (1964) conducted experiments in this area and found that the temporal duration of unattended auditory information in echoic storage is about two seconds. Short term memory is another component of the multi store model. Our short term memory is said to require the allocation of cognitive resources (Atkinson Shiffrin 1968). Peterson Peterson (1959) conducted the classic study of short term

Tsunami Response Paper Research by Goff et al.(2014) stated the following: The traditional term tsunami means harbour wave (tsu: harbour, nami: wave)..., a tsunami is specifically described as a series of travelling waves of extremely long length and period, usually generated by disturbances associated with earthquakes occurring below or near the ocean floor. Tsunami are commonly often associate with an earthquake but not all earthquakes generates tsunami. It depends on the movement of earth s plate. If earth s plate moved vertically much damage from tsunami would occur. For example, on December,26, 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami shook Indonesia and killed an estimated 230,000 people, most due to the tsunami and the lack of aid afterward. (Live Science ... As JetStream also emphasized that the wave height can increase by over 10 times as tsunamis propagate into shallow water, and the waves can be amplified by shoreline and bathymetric (seafloor) features, Cheng and Weiss (2013) researched the link between the onshore slope, initial amplitude and the difference between the maximum tsunami inundation and inland sediment by observing from 2011 Tohoku oki tsunami in Sendai. Cheng and Weiss (2013) found that for sand the grain size has little effect on the deposition ratio, but initial amplitude and slope influence the deposition ratio; steep slopes and low amplitudes have the most sensitive effect on deposition ratio. Thus, Cheng and Weiss (2013) argued that the application of the deposition ratio will improve tsunami hazard assessments by providing a geophysically more realistic inundation limit than the cases where only the inland extent of tsunami sediment is taken into account. Goto et al. (2014) also seemed to agree with Cheng and Weiss s research, as they stated For disaster prevention purpose, geological research is undoubtedly of great value to tsunami risk assessment...we should be considering what the most
  • 50. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act Drawbaugh and Aubin (2012) took the opportunity with the ten year anniversary of the Sarbanes Oxley Act to analyze whether the act has been effective. Passed in 2002 amid a wave of accounting scandals, Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) was intended to strengthen the accounting, auditing and reporting of public companies and boost investor confidence in the US financial system. The authors note that in general Sarbanes Oxley has succeeded in its mandate. There have not been, for example, any of the corporate accounting scandals of the Enron or Worldcom type that occurred before the law came into effect. There have been scandals in business, and failures, but none fell under the auspices of Sarbanes Oxley. The failures of AIG and Lehman Brothers did not occur because of accounting scandals but rather because of business failures of other types. The Bernie Madoff scandal has also been cited by some SOX opponents, but that did not occur with a public company and was therefore not under the auspices of SOX either. There have been repeated criticisms from business about the onerous nature of the legislation. It costs a lot of money to implement, for example, which restricts access to capital for smaller companies, who might choose to forgo equity markets for longer in order to avoid the provisions of Sarbanes Oxley. There remain members of Congress who are opposed to the Act and there is fierce opposition to the strengthening of the Public Companies Accounting Oversight Board
  • 51. Understanding Identity A solitarist Approach When understanding identity a solitarist approach is, in general, a very efficient way of misunderstanding nearly everyone in the world. As Amartya Sen explains, a single minded perception of oneness with our respective civilizations [sic] disregards the multiple and complex identities that belong to each human being. Sen states it must also be recognized that reductionist cultivation of singular identities has indeed been responsible for a good deal of what we call engineered bloodshed across the world. History has demonstrated how a particular group identity becomes a target in war, for example, the Jews were persecuted during the Second World War, but it should be noted that before the war, 80% of the Jews were also German citizens. Furthermore, Sen advocates for a deeper understanding of the multiplicities of identities to combat the integration of violence geared toward the cultivated singularity. When conflict arises the identities of the opposing groups can become a target for attack. Neal Ascherson, declares that war can damage two different, though related, types of identity: a social identity belonging to people within their community, and a collective or group identity which has been constructed around high art , considered to constitute a national heritage. Benedict Anderson describes modern nationalism as an imagined community, where although each person may not know one another in a nation state, they share a common identity that is

On the 1st January 1999 the euro was first introduced as a virtual currency. It was originally used as a currency to exchange between countries in the European Union while the countries continued on using their own different currencies for domestic trade. The eurowas introduced in Ireland when the physical euro became the standard currency in Europe three years later on the 1st of January 2002. It was created to establish monetary union within the European Union under the provisions that were set out in the 1992 Maastricht Treaty. The single currency makes international trade easier as there is more transparency of prices when there are less currencies to convert between to see where offers the best deal. Buyers from different countries can easily see where they will get the best bargain from because all the prices will be in euro and they won t have to worry about converting prices. A disadvantage of the euro is that traders around the world looking to buy the euro will look at whether to buy euros depending on the national economies of the countries using the euro. So if there are negative reports about a few economies, the euro exchange rate as a whole may fall, despite the economies of all the other member states being okay. The euro promotes trade and investment from global businesses outside the Eurozone which helps boost the European economy. Countries outside the Eurozone find the single currency an attractive quality to have in European countries to outsource their businesses in. Careful economic management within the EU makes the euro an attractive and strong currency. Having a single currency throughout almost all of Europe makes the euro more powerful in the global
