Illustrative Essay
Crafting an illustrative essay can prove to be a challenging endeavor, demanding a delicate
balance of creativity, precision, and a keen observational eye. Unlike other types of essays, the
illustrative essay necessitates the ability to vividly depict scenarios, events, or concepts with a
rich tapestry of details that captivate the reader's imagination. The challenge lies not only in
presenting a clear and coherent narrative but in doing so with a depth that goes beyond
superficial descriptions.
One of the primary difficulties arises in selecting appropriate examples that effectively illustrate
the chosen theme. This involves a meticulous process of brainstorming and evaluating potential
scenarios that not only align with the central idea but also resonate with the reader. Striking the
right balance between variety and relevance adds another layer of complexity, as the essay must
avoid becoming a mere list of disconnected instances.
Furthermore, constructing a seamless flow throughout the essay is a considerable challenge. Each
example should seamlessly transition into the next, creating a cohesive narrative that holds the
reader's attention. Achieving this requires a nuanced understanding of pacing, structure, and the
art of transitioning between diverse examples without losing the essay's thematic thread.
In addition, the illustrative essay demands a heightened emphasis on sensory details and imagery.
This emphasis adds a layer of difficulty, as the writer must find the right words to evoke vivid
mental images without overwhelming the reader with excessive detail. Striking this balance
requires finesse and a deep understanding of the emotional impact that carefully chosen words
can have on the reader's experience.
Despite the challenges, mastering the art of writing an illustrative essay can be a rewarding
experience. It sharpens not only one's descriptive skills but also the ability to communicate
complex ideas through relatable and engaging examples. The process of refining this skillset may
be arduous, but it ultimately results in an essay that not only informs but also captivates the
reader's imagination.
For those seeking assistance with such tasks or similar endeavors, there are resources available.
Various platforms, like HelpWriting.net, offer services to help individuals navigate the
intricacies of essay writing. Whether it's guidance on topic selection, structuring ideas, or
refining the language for a more impactful presentation, these resources can provide valuable
support for those looking to excel in the art of illustrative essay writing and more.

Abstract The world is changing and becoming increasingly multipolar due to the
emergence of China, India, Russia, Brazil and
South Africa forming so called BRICS. The global influence of
America is fading out due to the recent decline in their stock market and the
emergence of other markets. The framework of the global economy has changed
dramatically due to the collapse of Lehman
Brothers in 2008. The change in swift happened from G7 to G20

Since in recent years, numerous drastic occurrences have taken place in the stock
markets of various countries, it is of great interest to know and examine if these
changes have influenced the other countries policy making attributes in one way or
another.
III. PROBLEM BACKGROUND
The economic rise of China and India is arguably one of most significant
occurrence in the 21st century The rapid economic growth of BRICS countries
have uplifted millions of their citizens every year from poverty. What is the impact
on the region, given the ascendance of China and India? There are at least two
possible outcomes: the rise of the two great Asian powers may challenge the US and
instill fear among the smaller countries in Asia, or, China and India will act as new
economic dynamos that will benefit the region even if US economic presence in the
region is to decline in the future.
This article explores the opportunities and obstacles to a
harmonious region underpinned by the rise of BRICS.

The Misunderstandings of Socialism
Quotes like Winston Churchill s have become part of the political rhetoric when
leaders discuss the idea of socialism. In current events you can see the exact same
argumentation being used against legislation such as the Affordable Health Care Act.
Conservative talking heads such as Bill O Reilly equate it to socialismbecause, as Mr.
O Reilly says himself, [i]n order to provide for the have nots, the far left wants the
federal government to seize the assets of solvent Americans. That s what
ObamaCare [the Affordable Health Care Act] is all about taking from those who
can afford health care to provide for those who cannot (O Reilly). This
simplification of socialism does not do justice to the actual paradigm itself.
Instead, in this paper I will try to refute our current idea of socialism because of a
lack of understanding. The explanations and descriptions by Michael W. Doyle in
his chapters on Marxist and Leninist socialism paints a picture that allows one to see
how socialism could be beneficial to the common man while also critiquing the
negative myths held by modern society. Initially we shall examine the concept of
Karl Marxand Friedrich Engels view of Socialism as described by Michael W.
Doyle. At the very beginning of the chapter he states that [Marx and Engels] are
perhaps best known for the materialist conception of history in which the conditions
of production shape all other areas of society institutions, laws, ideas and morality
(Doyle 322). Both of

developed by using patients routine data provided by activity recognition. The most
common methods used to recognize human activity are image processing and usage
of wearable sensors. Though image processing doesn t require patient to wear any
equipment, it has some major problems such as requiring installation of cameras
and good light. In addition, its operations are restricted to indoor environments and
users have privacy concerns. The use of wearable sensors has addressed all these
problems, but requires wearing of equipment by the user for long durations[1]. In this

A Man s Best Friend
A Man s Best Friend
One day I was playing soccer with my friend and his dog outside of his house. All of
a sudden his dog ran inside. I asked my friend what was the matter, why did he he
just run inside? My friend explained to me that his dog is able to sense when bad
weather is going to come. I told him it doesn t look like bad weather is coming
though, the sun is still out. He then responded by saying you ll see; his instinct is
never wrong. Nevertheless, later that day it did thunderstorm. My story of the dog s
instinct being superior to my intellect is similar to Jack London s short story, To Build
a Fire. In this story London contrasts the two characters in the story the unnamed man
and his dog. These two character foils ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He thinks that Those old timers were rather womanish [and that] ... Any man who
was a man could travel alone, (113). The unnamed man s biggest mistake is
underestimating the force of nature and as he steps out into unimaginable weather
conditions, it is clear he is unprepared. In fact, he carried nothing but the lunch
wrapped in the handkerchief. He was surprised, however, at the cold. It certainly was
cold, he concluded, as he rubbed his numb nose and cheekbones with his mitted hand.
He was a warm whiskered man but the hair on his face did not protect the high
cheekbones and the eager nose that thrust itself aggressively into the frosty air (108).
This quotation demonstrates that he was unprepared and underestimated this journey.
He should have carefully considered all factors relating to under packing,
underdressing, and the issue of possible frostbite/death, and he shouldn t have
underestimated the fact that he cannot control natures conditions such as negative
fifty degree weather. On the other hand, the dog from the very start is hesitant to
accompany the man on his journey. The animal was depressed by the tremendous
cold. It knew that it was no time for travelling. Its instinct told it a truer tale than was
told to the man by the man s judgment. (108).
As the story continues, London contrasts the man and his dog throughout the story. It
is basically a man s knowledge versus a dog s instinct. Of course the dog has better
Economic Variables And Monetary Policy
As was mentioned above rising in oil prices influence the increase in inflation. And
it is big dilemma for monetary policy, because arise a question what should central
banks do? Should they tighten monetary policy to correct the effects of oil prices
increases and prevent inflation? Or they should take in oil prices increases with easy
monetary policyto support growth of output and employment. In this situation,
central banks have these two main problems. The point is that central banks can
do nothing for preventing of an increasing of world oil prices from harming oil
importing countries. The country will less other services or goods when oil import
will be paid, or to understand how to leave and consume less oil, go deeper to depth.
So, monetary policy can help only what forms of damages takes. The second problem
is that central banks have little control of real economic variables, because of
neutrality of money. Monetary policy can control only the growth and nominal GDP.
If a country has output growth, but at the same time inflationgrowth as output grow,
this situation has nothing beneficial to a county citizens. So, if we put all these
together, it becomes understandable that central bankof an importing country have
limiting options to deal with oil price shock. They can apply tighten policy to keep
inflation from rise, but in this case real GDP will decrease or will be behind the
growth of potential GDP. As a result, a country will have negative output gap and

On November 13, 2014 at Grossmont College s Child Development Center, I

around 15 children between the ages of three and five; there is one adult for every
six or so kids. The preschool center s indoor environment is safely secured with a
locked gate that separates the outside door which leads to the younger children
centers and parking lot with the hallway to the learning and play area. There are two

He grabs one blue block and places it to one side, and begins to do that with every
other color presented to him. Konnor begins to stack up the Lego blocks separately
according to the color; all the blue blocks were stacked neatly in a separate stack,
as well as the red blocks and so on. Konnor shows maturation and according to
Berger, maturation of the prefrontal cortex can be identified through observing
children play certain games such as Simon Says, and the color game, which was
found that children were able to sort the cards out by their color. (234) Konnor
shows maturation because he was able to unstack the uncoordinated colored blocks
to color coordinate them, unlike a few children surrounding him who profusely
stacked the blocks, regardless of the color order. At 3 years and 8 months old, Konnor
is within the norm for this development since it appears at 3 years old (Berger, 234).
Konnor picks up a tree branch that has fallen beside a tree, he stares at it and looks
up at the tree and back at the branch. With the branch still gripped firmly in his
hand, Konnor begins to lift his body to wrap his arms and legs around the tree.
Hugging the tree with his body, Konnor begins to ease his way up the tree by
pushing his legs up first to scoot the lower half of his body up, and then lifting his
arms up further to scoot up his upper body as well. Konnor shows gross motor skills
and according to Berger, gross motor skills are defined as, physical
Christianity and The Chronicles of Narnia Essay
Christianity and The Chronicles of Narnia
C. S. Lewis, a well known author and apologist, is best known by people of all
ages for his seven volume series entitled The Chronicles of Narnia. As Lewis
wrote about the land of Narnia, an imaginary world visited by children of this
world, he had two obvious purposes: to entertain the readers and to suggest
analogies of the Christian faith. Although some feel that his stories are
violent, Lewis is successful at using fiction to open peoples hearts to
accepting Christ as their Savior because he first entertains the audience with a
wonderful story.
Lewis talked about how he came to write the books of Narnia, saying that they ...

But how should Lewis go about getting past those who are
not open to the idea of Christianity? He believed that the best way to do this
was to present it in a fictional world, a world in which it would be easier to
accept. The audience grows to love Aslan and everything that he symbolizes; they
begin to wish for someone like Aslan in this world. After finding this love for
Aslan, they will ideally transfer that love to Christ when presented with the
Gospel later in life. It is important to remember that The Chronicles of Narnia
are successful because many readers do not realize the resemblance of Aslan to
Jesus Christ. Even though Christian themes are present, the Chronicles are not
dependent on them (Schakel 132). Peter J. Schakel, a professor of English at
Hope College in Holland, Michigan, states that a non Christian reader can
approach the book as a fictional story and be moved by the exciting adventures
and the archetypal meanings, and not find the Christian elements obtrusive or
offensive (132). For this reason, the Narnian stories have been so successful
in getting into the bloodstream of the secular world (Hooper 99).
Hooper discusses how Lewis will be successful in sharing the gospel if he can
get past the partition of
Dynamic Nominalism
The meaning of dynamic nominalism is that in naming classifications of human
types, people come to fit the label given. A new possibility is offered and this can
influence individuals to adopt characteristics and thus fit in to the new classification.
This differs from inert nominalism and realism as this label may not always be the
same one used for the individual, as social change gives birth to new opportunities,
individuals may move categories. This essay is going to explore Hacking s term
dynamic nominalism through the illustration of some of the issues in the emosociety.
The concept of dynamic nominalism claims that in giving a name to a category a
new opportunity is created for human types to adopt. New types of people start to ...

(Simond 2007) These are set behaviours and the people who fit themselves to this
new classification of emo adopt these, illustrating as dynamic nominalism proposes,
people spontaneously come to fit their categories . (Hacking 2002:100) We then see
the manufactured society and the people within it working together, fulfilling their
new role of expressing emotions showing classifications and our classes conspire to
emerge hand in hand, each egging the other on (Hacking 2002:106) As will be shown
next classifications are not stagnant and through life individuals may choose to
affiliate with another label.
Dynamic nominalism differs to both realism and nominalism; it suggests that
society is active and ever changing, bringing about new classifications people can
chose to live. A realist believes that people are pre sorted, that labels exist before we
discover that which we label. In contrast a nominalist believes that the only thing that
which is labelled has in common is the label. They also believe that classifications do
not interact with their class and that labels do not change. In the emo society we can
see change is
Essay on Carson McCullers
Carson McCullers
Walter Allen said of Carson McCullers; ``Faulkner apart, the most remarkable
novelist the South has produced seems to me Carson McCullers (Allen 208). Her
work is marked with the feeling of loneliness coming from her lonely childhood

She is ``able to persuade us that contemporary reality and legendary story are one
(Graver 209). The worlds she created are imaginary but in their ``depth and variety
can look like the reality (Allen 208).
A lot of critics speak about the poetic aspect of her work and think that ``With her,
the Southern tradition of the Gothic novel is refined into a poetic sensibility which
has not escaped either imitation or misuse (Hassan 506). Even if her novels are all
in prose and ``not in any obvious sense poetic (Allen 208), ``from its first
appearance, critics have recognized the Lyricism of the McCullers narrative style,
which can render even sordid subject matter in poetic terms (Griffith 209). This
come from her first vocation which was music. One can find this constant presence
of music in her novels: ballad and Negro song. This is a part of the spirit of the deep
South she described in her work.
As she was born in Georgia and most of her novels take place in the South, she is
always connected with this region. Some people called her work gothic because of
her characters who all have a physical or psychological deficiency. Gothic is a style
of writing that grew in the south with authors as William Faulkner, Earnest
Hemingway, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. She is very often associated with all these well
known writers. ``With a touch reminiscent of Faulkner but peculiarly her own style

Prevent Alzheimer s Research Paper
Prevent Alzheimer s
Of particular interest to seniors, is how they can prevent neurological disorders, like
dementia and Alzheimer s, and possibly reverse the damage. Alzheimer s develops
when a type of plaque forms in the brain, which will eventually lead to damage of the
neurons in the brain.
Tea can reduce the risk of Alzheimer s by preventing the formation of these plaques
and breaking down existing plaque formation. Tea can repair the damage by creating
new neurons in the area of the brain that is responsible for memory.

How Is Ancient Egypt Similar To Today
People in ancient Egypt were hard working, but they needed to have fun too. The
people of ancient Egypt had many games they played for entertainment, such as
hunting, board games, sports, festivals, and games for children. Many of their games
were similar to the games we play today. One of the most well known ancient
Egyptian gamewas senet. Senet is a board game that has 30 squares arranged in
three rows of ten. The board has two sets of pawns. Some senet boards were placed
in their graves so they can play games in the afterlife. According to journey to ancient

Art And Culture Of Mexico
I visited the National Museum of Mexican Art to find out more about the art and
culture of Mexico. An interesting exhibit found in the museum is called Nuestra
Historias: Stories of Mexican Identity from the Permanent Collection. The exhibit
displays various artworks from the 18th through the 20th century. The purpose of the
exhibit is to show how the Mexican identity has been altered throughout time and
different regions. After the Mexican Revolution, modern Mexican artists were
significant figures who positively impacted the Mexican government and politics. Art
and culture greatly shaped Mexicobecause it also joined people together. The visit to
the museum gave me an extensive understanding of how Mexican artwork shaped
its people and region. During hardships, art spread positivity throughout Mexico.
The exhibit displays various Mexican artifacts, modern art, folk art, and religious
art which are not only found in Mexico but in various parts of the world. Mexican
artists created various religious artworks which shows how the Roman Catholic
religion is significant in Mexico. The exhibit displays an image of Virgen of
Guadalupe created by Miguel Cabrera. It is an oil painting on a canvas. The image
of Virgin of Guadalupe is an important symbolism in Mexico because it is said that
she appeared in a vision to Juan Diego in the year of 1531. Juan Diego was an
Aztec who converted to Christianity. Because of his visions of the Virgin of
Guadalupe, a shrine was built and is
The United States Involvement During The Vietnam War
The United States involvement in the Vietnam War developed into one of the most
brutal, yet necessary wars of The Cold War. Although the war was viewed poorly by
most, it helped a weak, crumbling South Vietnam stand up to a strong powerful North
Vietnam that was forcing communism on them. President Johnson even stated that
Our objective is the independence of South Vietnamand its freedom from attack. The
United Stateswanted to stop an oppressive government and to make sure the world is
a safer, freer place for all people. The VietnamWar was worth fighting for as it sent a
message to the world that communism is not the right form of government and that

North and South Vietnam became separate countries and fought in many battles. This
was referred to at the Indochina War. Ultimately the French were defeated and a
peace treaty called the Geneva Split was signed by both sides making the 17th
parallel the border between North and South Vietnam. Bao was then replaced by Ngo
Dinh Diem, who had a pro democracy and anti communist point of view. South
Vietnam was renamed the Government of the Republic of Vietnam. After the split of
Vietnam, the United States became very interested in stopping the spread of
communism. This policy lead president Dwight D. Eisenhower to support South
Vietnam. At the same time, Diem s policy was to get all Viet Minh and northern
supporters out of South Vietnam. He did this by ordering mass arrests of communists
and later tortured and executed them. An estimated 100,000 people were arrested.
After this incident, Viet Minh and others began to attack South Vietnam aiming at
government officials and other high profile targets. This lead to skirmishes and
firefights between North and South Vietnam, which received the attention of the
United States. The United States sent a team to South Vietnam to look at the
potential of a war in Vietnam. The team concluded that the United States should build
up military, economic, and technical aid. After this recommendation, the United
States increased aid, sent over 9,000 troops, and pledged

The Changes Of The Prohibition In The United States
The prohibition has had many changes since it was first made. The first time
congress tried to pass this law was in 1917. Then in 1919 it was changed for the
first time. The changes made were known as the Volstead Act. This act said the laws
under the prohibition needed to be enforced. From the start there were problems
with this law. The biggest problems that were happening right away were that no
one was following through with punishment for people breaking the law. Then in the
early 20s, many states started to pass their own laws about prohibition.States
decided to make their own laws because they believed that it would work better if
each state made their own law. This still wasn t very successful because not all the
states decided that

Competition for Increasingly Scarce Resources in the 21st Century Introduction
During the 1960s, dire Malthusian warnings about the impact of overpopulation,
consumption and resource depletion caused only a ripple of concern in the
international community as the Green Revolution and modern birth control methods
and practices appeared to provide a viable solution to these problems. Unfortunately,
even though innovations in agricultural practices have increased yields even further
than during the second half of the 20th century, most authorities agree that realistic
limits are already being reached. Complicating issues for policymakers today is the
paradoxical nature of population growth, with many wealthy nations experienced
negative population growth while a number of impoverished developing nations are
experiencing explosive population growth, placing even heavier demands on already
scant resources. To determine how the issues of overpopulation, consumption, and
resource depletion relate to wealthy nations and developing nations and how can
these issues be addressed, this paper provides a review of the relevant literature,
followed by a summary of the research and important findings in the conclusion.
Review and Analysis The issues of overpopulation, consumption and resource
depletion are, of course, inextricably interrelated. After all, more people mean more
mouths to feed, water to drink and air to breathe. Indeed, increased population levels
naturally result in
Social Movements Of Canada And Ghana
Social movements are everywhere. However, the transformation and publicity this
particular movement has received is admirable. During the Summer of 2015, BLM
publicly challenged politicians, including those in the 2016 U.S presidential
elections. A drawback of the movement is that it is decentralized and does not have
the funds or people with enough power to enforce a formal structure and hierarchy
within its network. One successful method the protestors employed to have their
voices heard is the staged demonstrations at numerous malls across the United
States on Black Friday, which is undeniably, a wisely chosen date to reach and
spread such messages in public to as many people as possible. Besides the U.S,
there are several BLM chapters in Canada and Ghana. The movement has also
expanded beyond street protests, such as college campuses who have taken part

Why I Want For A Pharmacist
Just because you graduated from a university doesn t mean your days of studying
are over says a woman named Rosemary Killeen. Throughout my life I have been
divulged with many different questions on what I want to be when I get older. I
always had vacillated between I am not really sure yet and I wantto be a professional
athlete . But now that I have sat down to think about it I realized that I would like to
be a pharmacist. A pharmacist is a person who is professionally qualified to prepare
and dispense medical drugs. I think that being a pharmacist would be good for me
because I would like to be in the health field but working as a surgeon is not my
type of thing. As you read on you soon will find out the history of a pharmacist,
what you need to obtain being a pharmacist, a description of being a pharmacist, and
why this job is for me. Pharmacycan be traced far back into history. According to
Pharmacy, the first known production of medicine substance was around 6th
century BC, however the earliest text of pharmacy can be dated back to the 3rd or
4th AD. Ancient Egyptian s knowledge on pharmacy was originally written on
papyrus. The earliest known complete filling of medicine was done by the Hindu.
One famous pharmacist named John Pemberton was actually the man that invented
Coca Cola. I really think it is bizarre that a pharmacist to be the person that would
invent a kind of pop let alone Coca Cola. Coca Cola is one of the most popular drinks

Lying Is A Day For Day Fact Of Life Essay
Abstract
Lying is a day to day fact of life. According to Bella DePaulo, Ph.D., a person will
lie one in every five times of their daily interactions (Chiu, Hong, Chiu, 2016).
Deceit, whether for a high stake reason such as to cover up a crime, or a little white
lie such as, Your hair looks great, can be difficult to detect. Discerning whether a
person is being honest has yet to become a science, but researchers have found
techniques that are effective in uncovering the truth. While there are several different
ways interrogators discern the truth from a lie, this paper will focus on the detection
of deception through the carefully crafted interview technique of reading facial
expressions. It is believed that if an interviewer is properly trained to question a
subject, the truth can be uncovered and deceit can be detected approximately 70% of
the time (Vrij Granhag, 2014). To discover if this can be done, an experiment will be
conducted in a controlled environment to determine if an interviewer can accurately
detect falsified emotions on different subjects.
Evaluating Truthfulness and Detecting Deceit
Everybody lies (Hutchinson, 2015). It is not uncommon for people to tell lies on a
day to day basis for many different reasons, such as to avoid conflict, to make
themselves look better, to avoid consequences of their actions, or to avoid hurting
someone else s feelings (Chiu, Hong, Chiu, 2016). So, with lying being so common,
how can someone effectively detect when they
Dean Fuller Case
Comparative Analysis Paper This paper deals with the various economic impacts of
the three different cases that are considered. It is important to go through the cases
and recap them before comparison. But, it is always important to deal with the cases
in the best way possible because the economic considerations from the c cases brings
the best way of dealing with cases in present and also in future. It is very important to
control emotions during moments of happiness, sadness and anger because they
worsen the situation and they make things even more complicated. This is a very
important consideration. It is always advised to follow this consideration and do
great at solving complicated cases dealing with the economies. From a lot of cases,

This might have a very bad impact on the organization. It is not right of Fuller to do
so without thinking of the future and the circumstances but a slip of tongue might
cost a lost. Facing the lawsuit would be one very critical and important thing to
consider. This might lead to a lot of disturbance and chaos in the organization
which could probably also lead to the downfall of the organization. Paul should
personally talk to Dean and try to explain to him what happened and how the
process worked and try to calm him down or he should offer him a position in the
organization which could make Dean happy and would prevent him from filing a
lawsuit. If this is done, Dean would not take any drastic steps and it could also
make him feel better because he already feels bad about his disability. The best fit
solution would be to come up with a mutual understanding so that both Dean and the
organization are happy and nobody is affected by the decision. This matters a lot and
will play an important role in this case
Letter of Interest for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority
Dear Ladies of the Gamma Theta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Incorporated: I am seeking membership into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Incorporated because I want to grow and contribute my time and talent to an
illustrious, originating organization. I aspire to be a part of a sisterhood where I
can express myself, and have my skills nourished by prospering African American
women. This summer I was involved in a traumatic car accident and survived,
tragically two of my dearest friends did not. On the car third spin I squeezed my
eyes shut, and braced myself for a collision. Suddenly, the car jolted forward and
flipped. At that very moment I realized that I am here for a greater purpose, and
vowed to take the necessary steps to fulfill that purpose. God is not finished with
me yet, and I do not want to sit on my Lord. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority,
Incorporated purpose is to be of service to all mankind dealing with critical issues
in communities domestically and internationally. What I have grown to understand
an envision a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated to be, I accredit
largely to the ladies of the Gamma Theta chapter. This has the result of attending
many of the chapter s events during my time at Hampton thus far. One of my
favorite events was a screening of a documentary Girls Rising. I learned to
appreciate every opportunity to learn and gain knowledge because in some parts of
the world girls are restricted from receiving an education. A
Segregated Education, By Jonathan Kozol
Segregated Education
It has become common today to dismiss the lack of education coming from
impoverished schools. Jonathan Kozol an award winning social injustice writer,
trying to bring to light how our school system genuinely ponders their students. In his
essay Still Separate, Still UNEQUAL, Kozol visits many public high schools as well
as elementary schools across the country, realizing the outrageous truth about
segregating in our public education system. Kozol, cross examining children
describing their feelings as being put away where no one desires your presence.
Children feeling diminished for being a minority; attending a school that does not
take into consideration at the least the child s well being. Showing clear signs of
segregation in the education system. Diane Ravitch a research professor of
education at New York University, spoke about an interesting truth, saying, The
achievement gaps are rooted in social, political, and economic structures. If we are
unwilling to change the root cause, we are unlikely ever to close the gaps. The
success of our children s education is mainly caused by economic, social and
political statue. If one does not end the cycle the gap will most likely never close.
This ties in with when Kozol cites Marina Warner, an essayist and novelist, saying,
There are expensive children and there are cheap children, just as there are expensive
women and cheap women. (354) There are some children that will be fortune enough
to have a
J. C. Penny Organizational Culture
The culture at J. C. Penny before Johnson can be described as inclusive and
employee centered. The organizational culture can perhaps be described as a
hierarch culture. A hierarchy culture has an internal focus and produces more
formalized and structured work environment (Kreitner, p. 70). The founder, James
Cash Penny, managed his stores under the philosophy of providing the best
customer service at the best price. He truly believed in giving his customers the best
deal possible. The company continued to thrive under this basic tenant, but started to
lose its market share and overall appeal in the early 2000s as the internet and small
specialty stores like H M and the GAP started to attract more of their customers.

C. Penny s over 100 year presence in the retail industry, any organizational change
would require careful and thoughtful planning. Edgar Schein, former professor at MIT
Sloan School of Management and Organizational Behavior scholar notes that
changing organizational culture involves a teaching process (Kreitner, p. 74). This
process is beneficial for both the existing employees and new leadership. One of the
processes that I would have recommended to Johnson at the beginning of his term
with J.C. Penny would be the organizational activities, processes or outcomes that
leaders pay attention to, measure, and control. The behavior of Johnson and his new
management team suggested that they rejected learning about the existing culture at
J.C. Penny and how and why things are done the way they were. To meet the
objectives of the board of directors, the immediate focus was to focus on what he
thought the customer wanted...a method that was proven to be successful at Apple,
but failed at J.C. Penny. Had he spent time getting to know his employees and
explained his vision for J.C. Penny, he would have received valuable information on
not just the how, but what why things are done in the manner they are done. Why it
was important to keep the coupons that customers loved to use. Johnson knew the
history of James Cash Penny and thought that his Fair and Square pricing strategy
was all that was needed to transform the company. But he failed to truly understand
Mr. Penny s philosophy the Golden Rule where you find good employees, train
them well, as well as sell quality goods at a fair price (J.C. Penney Company, Inc.

A Good Friend In A Diamond Guitar By Truman Capote
Unwavering trust and the heart to love another person as they would their brother
is a key aspect of A Diamond Guitar . In A Diamond Guitar by Truman Capote,
there is a man named Mr. Schaeffer who is the ideal good friend. He has been
sentenced ninety plus years in a work farm for committing murder. After serving
about seventeen years in the work farm a new inmate named Tico Feo, a foreigner
from Cuba, arrived in the work farm. Throughout the story, both characters lives
are visualized through the perspective of Mr. Schaeffer himself. Both of them end
up bonding and connecting their lives in the restricted space of the work farm. Mr.
Schaeffer is a good friend because of how he treats Tico Feo as if he were his own
brother, keeps his feelings in mind, and gives things to him without asking for
anything back. One of Mr. Schaeffer s ways of being a good friend was how he
gave stuff to Tico Feo without asking for anything in return. Neither of them had a
past together and their relationship is very unique because of how connected they
became throughout the story. Amongst one of the first encounters between Tico
Feo and Mr. Schaeffer, they were having a conversation about Tico Feo s guitar and
sisters. In which Tico Feo ended up bringing up the fact that his sisters used to have
dolls like the one Mr. Schaeffer had. Tico Feo was very blatant about wanting the
doll and Mr. Schaeffer had no incentive to give him the doll. But, The next evening
Mr. Schaeffer brought him the
Reasons Why College Athletes Should Get Paid
There are many reasons why college athletes should get paid. Many people will
agree and disagree with the argument of should athletes get paid why or why not.
The main reasons may include finical help to pay for college to teach athletes how to
manage money and how to be wise with little money, not having enough money can
hold players back from finishing college, and finally the amount of money going into
the program should be shared with the athletes as they are the reason for the money
coming in. Going to college and being a student athleteis never easy and the ways to
help them is by paying them to help them get through school and succeed. To start
off, college athletes have literally no money as their goal is to go to college to
make it into the big leagues. Coming to college with no money makes it hard for
these athletes to go out and live life and have fun just like normal students do. Just
because they are athletes does not mean that they cannot go out and have fun also.
Many of the companies like ESPN pays BCS $500 million dollars. If these were
combined and people in the business of the money took $1.3 billion off the top they
could split it up with investing it, sheltering it, and possibly providing some with
college athletes and giving them an opportunity to go out and do something. On
ESPN.com the article College Athletes Deserves to be Paid stated There s also a
special assistance fund and a student athlete opportunity fund. So, with that being said

Better Not to Know in Mishel’s Uncertainty in Illness...
Mishel s (1988) Uncertainty in Illness theory is a mid range nursing theory that
examines how uncertainty can affect patients. In addition, Mishel s theory identifies
causes of uncertainty that negatively or positively affect the patient. If an individual
is spiraling down a known path of illness, they may perceive uncertainty as a benefit.
However, illness uncertainty causes breakdowns, fear of the illness, emotional
distress, loss of control, and inappropriate coping methods (Mishel 1988). These
conditions if left untreated will lead to patients that are unable to form cognitive
structures for illness related events, develop improper psychological adjustments,
poor decision making, and traumatic stress responses (Mishel 1988). Along with...

disease that are not currently presenting symptoms. Using Mishel s Uncertainty in
Illness Scale the authors identify and measure four specific psychological points.
They collectively measure the patient s objective cues about the state of the illness as

Hepatitis C in a healthcare setting. The inconsistency is viewed as information from
health care providers that may change or is inconsistent with other information
previously presented. Unpredictability is how the present illness differs from what
the patient has experienced previously. According to Baily, et al. (2009) lack of
treatment to cure the disease will lead to a patient s uncertainty on how the illness
will present itself in the future. Thus, patients must face the unknown factors of their
disease progression and manage life with their chronic illness. In Chronic Hepatitis
C, tracking of outcomes and progressions are difficult, and disease trajectory varies
from person to person (Baily, et al 2009). In addition, uncertainty stems from lack of
knowledge of the disease, loss of control, and expectations of possible relapse of
symptoms in the future. The study conducted by Baily, et al. (2009) showed a
correlation between the amount of illness uncertainty that had adverse effects on
fatigue, depression, quality of
Republic Of Outsiders Analysis
Activism is defined as the policy or action of using vigorous campaigning to bring
about political or social change by the Oxford Dictionary online. Traditionally, this
is the commonly accepted and widespread definition used to label the renegades of
society, the fighters for justice, and the believers in change. This trend of societal
self modification has predicated our prevailing view of activism, because social
change is, and always has been, a part of human evolution. Nowadays we are faced
with a polymorphous concept of activism that baffles everyone from academics to
activists themselves. Over the past decade, new forms of pseudo activism have
appeared, and have proven to be increasingly difficult to classify under the
preexisting categorizations. In Alissa Quart s book Republic of Outsiders we come

others are centered more on making a bold, artistic statement by using
controversial contemporary issues as a platform to do so. Emma Sulkowitz, or

her life to her artwork. Her ancillary aim is to propagate awareness of sexual
violence and rape on college campuses. Due to her secondary, more public goal, she

He must convince himself and others that he is a very important figure and he does
this by denying his insecurities.
Another obvious characteristic he shows throughout the novel is that he enjoys
having status among the group of friends. He wants to be the one who is
threatening, and above all the other boys. He doesn t like it when people insult
him or get in his way, as in doing something, which he dislikes, or someone saying
something, which disagrees with him. We can see this when he says We know
how to deal with tuchusleckers here he says this to Hersh when Duddy was giving
MacPherson a hard time and Hersh told Duddy to Leave him alone . This made
Duddy angry as he doesn t like people disagreeing with his doings, and so he wave
his fist at Hersh and says that.
Throughout the novel you are able to see that Duddy is a boy, which needs face all

Richard Nixon Checkers Speech Analysis
Guilty or Innocent:Richard Nixon s Checkers Richard Nixon successfully used
Pathos throughout his Checkers Speech to appeal to the emotions of the American
people. Nixon, more commonly known for being one of the most hated presidents
that the United States has endured, is exceptionally brilliant. He used technology to
help him plead his innocence, as he televised his big Checkers Speechfor the entire
United States to hear. While being accused of accepting millions of dollars and
putting them into a slush fund , Nixon stood firm and exclaimed to the public, I
want to make this particularly clear that no contributor to this fund, no contributor
to any of my campaigns, has ever received any consideration that he would not
have received as an ordinary constituent (par. 6)that he had no part in anything
fraudulent. However he does admit to taking one gift his Cocker Spaniel named
Checkers. Other than Checkers, which he receives nor gives any favoritism for
accepting, he is an honest, hardworking man. He stated that he did not care for the
opinion of the public I just want to say this, right now, that regardless of what they
say about it, we re gonna keep it (par. 26) because his children fell in love with it,
and he couldn t bring himself to take it away from them. Throughout Nixon s
speech, he presents the illusion that he is in fact broke , thus appealing to poverty.
He gives multiple examples of his financial situations by stating, I owe 4500
dollars to the Riggs Bank in Washington, D.C., with interest 4 and 1/2 percent. I
owe 3500 dollars to my parents, and the interest on that loan, which I pay regularly,
because it s the part of the savings they made through the years they were working
so hard I pay regularly 4 percent interest. And then I have a 500 dollar loan, which I
have on my life insurance. (par. 23) which also establishes credibility with his
audience. He also says, But Pat and I have the satisfaction that every dime that we
ve got is honestly ours. I should say this, that Pat doesn t have a mink coat. But she
does have a respectable Republican cloth coat, and I always tell her she d look good
in anything (par. 25) showing that money is not the reason he is running
Braking Control System Design
This part of the book deals with the main aspects of both braking control.
Specifically, the basic solutions to braking control systems design are introduced
based on the actuators, with continuous and discrete dynamics. When designing a
control system the first step is to define the controlled variable. Two possible
choices will considered. It will be shown how wheel slip control is the natural
choice in this case. The problem of how to design the control taking into account
the actuator dynamics and the activation/deactivation logic will not be explicitly
addressed. Also, the use of an actuator with discrete dynamics, which introduces
limit cycles, won t be analyzed in this thesis. 6 2 Wheel Slip Control Commercial
braking systems are based on heuristic methods related to wheel deceleration.
However, it is clear that the slip control problem is more suitable for the design of
braking controllers that are robust with respect to road surface variations, the
design steps for the synthesis of a linear wheel slip controller will be presented and
discussed. The wheel slip control has a straight forward graphical interpretation
(figure 6 3). It should be noted that whatever the value the set point , the regulation
scheme guarantees the uniqueness of the equilibrium point. Also, as long as 0.1 0.2
the friction coefficient is close to its optimal value for every road condition. That
issue is very important since it allows the use of a fixed structure controller, with no
need
Orange Oil Research Paper
If you have a wooden fence around your property, chances are you will deal with a
termite infestation at one point or another. While liquid termiticide treatments do the
trick, these products contain harmful chemicals that are unhealthy to breathe in and
that are bad for the environment. Instead, try these two all natural ways to get rid of
the termites that are eating away at your fence:
Orange Oil
Orange oil contains an active ingredient called D Limonene. D Limonene is an all
natural insecticide. When termites come in contact with this active ingredient, it
immediately poisons them and destroys all of their cell membranes. When this
occurs, the termite essentially loses all its water and protein. In turn, the termite dies.
In order to use this all natural insecticide, you will first need to put on a pair of
protective gloves and prepare the orange oil. Simply take a spray bottle and add an
entire bottle of orange oil into the spray bottle. Because you want the application to

Blocking Diode Is Useful Tool For Limiting The Direction...
Blocking diode
The blocking diode is a helpful tool for limiting the direction energy can flow through
a wire to just one direction. It uses a semiconductor P/N junction achieve this
behavior.
The diagram shows a simple setup with two panels charging a battery (for simplicity
no controller is shown) with a blocking diode in series with the two panels, which are
also wired in series. When the sun shines, as long as the voltage produced by the two
panels is greater than that of the battery, charging will take place.
However, in the dark, when no voltage is being produced by the panels, the voltage
of the battery would cause a current to flow in the opposite direction through the
panels, discharging the battery, if it was not for the blocking diode in the circuit.
Blocking diodes will be of benefit in any system using solar panels to charge a
battery. Blocking diodes are usually included in the construction of solar panels so
further blocking diodes are not required. Most photovoltaic solar panels are used
to charge a battery during the daytime. Nearly all panels come equipped with a
blocking diode. The diode prevents DC current from flowing backwards from the
battery bank into the panel at night. The usual blocking device of choice is a
schottky diode with a typical 0.5v voltage drop. In some large panels, which can
often source over 4 Amps of current, the power loses due to this voltage drop
Fostering English Mastery within a Linguistically Diverse...
Linguistic diversity has become a divisive issue in the American political landscape.
As Wolfram points out, the politics of linguistics necessitates a knowledgeable
response rooted in research and pedagogical practice. When addressing the needs of a
linguistically diverse population, it becomes crucial to examine the ways that
educationis failing to help students acquire languagemastery and also failing to train
teachers properly in English language instruction. A prevailing research question is as
follows: what are the best ways to foster English mastery within a linguistically
diverse cultural landscape?
Research shows almost universally that linguistic diversity is a desirable scenario,
rather than a detriment to learning. Moreover, the goal of education is far from being
the creation of a homogeneous society. Education has many different goals, which
will differ according to the individual needs and desires of students. However,
students do need to learn how to thrive in an increasingly heterogeneous society.
Academic, social, psychosocial and financial success hinges not just on the mastery
of proper English but also on the mastery of cultural sensitivity.
A review of literature highlights some of the core issues at stake with regards to the
questions of how to best foster English mastery within a linguistically diverse society.
Wolfram advocates an examination of linguistic scholarship, referring to the myriad
of uninformed opinions that abound among
The Definition Of The Hero In Adam Brown s Fearless
The definition of the word Hero is described as someone a person who is admired
or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Although the
definition is a set meaning, the word itself can be interpreted as anything the
reader may see it as. For the most part, the word Hero has a universal meaning as
the one who saves others. Throughout the novel Fearless multiple heroes came into
the light. Adam Brown s amazing journey overcoming drug addiction to stand with
the elite Navy SEALs, as well as his wife, Kelley Brown, for standing by his side
for the journey made them the main heroes. Within the definition of the word
fearless is the sense of bravery and pride. The word floods the mind with many
different scenarios and memories that relate to the word. For those who knew the
American Hero, Adam Brown, many different emotions and memories come to mind.
Adam Brown was a hero due to his service in the United States Navyas well as taking

Discussion Questions The Transferred Ghost by Frank R. Stockton
1.I think that there must be a sort of meeting hall for all the unassigned ghosts to be
able to go, and there, there is a bulletin board with all the departed peoples names,
and requests for someone to become their ghost. I imagine that from then on, it is
just a matter of who would get the assignment slip first, so that there is a sort of
administrator who manages things so that ghosts can get a position smoothly. I
think that such ghosts exist so that humans can seem to live on, albeit in a rather
strange form inhabited by something else entirely. Maybe the ghosts were there to
take place of a hole which would most certainly open as a result of a person s death
in the lives of those around the deceased person. Even if ghosts don t come from
people, I believe that souls still exist in people. Immortal doesn t always have to be
taken to mean living forever in a literal way. I ve always believed that souls are
there to let people feel. Anger, sadness, joy, happiness they are all emotions that let
us feel that we are human beings. As long as people don t become numb to emotions
and live true to them, souls will still exist forever in ourselves. A ... Show more

The part which was most funny for me was near the end, when the narrator is
talking to the ghost and says I cannot bear to think of him! aloud and the situation
gets awkward as Madeline doesn t know about the ghost at all. It was such an
tricky position for the narrator to be in, as he runs the risk of exposing the ghosts
identity, but what really made me laugh was when he says the name of a rival; I had
expected the narrator to give up and tell Madeline the truth. His clumsiness truly
surprised me, as he really should have known better; the ghost had already explained
to him that he would be the only one able to see the spectre. I think his ungainliness
in that tight spot was what tickled my sense of
Descriptive Essay On A Gym
In today s busy world, it can be hard to find the time to even think about one s
fitness, let alone actually do anything to maintain it. The average person has
school, work, family, pets, and many more distractions in their life to ensure their
fitness is left on the backburner. However, when the thought of exercise does
eventually enter their mind, the thought that often comes forefront is that of the
gym. The concept of a gym is simple, populate a building with the necessary
equipment for a variety of physical activities, attracting people who want to get that
perfect body or even just get back in shape. However, many people who have never
frequented a gym often come up with a plethora of reasons not to go. One such
example of a gym is Lifetime Fitness in Collierville Tennessee. driving past it, one
would hardly even guess it was a gym. Lifetime is a towering building with large
glass windows framing nearly the entire exterior, almost resembling an office
building the likes of which one would expect to see in a place like New York or
Los Angeles. Stepping into the parking lot, signs of activity are already evident;
children s laughter, the splashing of water and the whistle of the lifeguard can be
heard in the distance from the large outdoor pool that extends from the left side of
the building. Stepping into the building s entryway is almost like stepping into a fish
tank, with nothing separating the interior from the outside except glass doors and
windows on all sides.
Puuritan And Puritan
Throughout history God has had a place in society, by either being the divine leader,
the creator of everything or even a non existent character. The Puritans were an
English Protestant group in the late 16th and 17th century that believed God was the
divine leader. With their strong beliefs and strict laws controlling their followers, the
Puritans lived a simple life praising the lord to one day get into Heaven. In the
Scarlet Letterby Nathaniel Hawthornea descendant of early Puritansettlers; a story is
told based in a Puritan community following the life of Hester Prynne and her Puritan
community around her. We see in this novel how the life of the Puritans are
deposited. Another story that shows the Puritan life is The Devil and Tom Walker by
Washington Irving. He brought a new voice to literature by writing The Devil and
Tom Walker a dark story with the devil. After reading these two stories we see how
both authors showed the Puritan lifestyle in both. Also how Puritanism affects the
characters in both stories and how each author had their own opinions on the
Puritans. The authors show the life of the Puritans and their belief of heaven and hell
through these chilling stories. Washington irving and Nathaniel Hawthorne show the
Puritan lifestyle in both if their stories. They may have depicted the puritan lifestyle
in similar different ways but overall Puritanism is shown through the stories. Religion
was a substantial part of the puritan lifestyle and this is
Exon Junction Complex
Social activities are the most fundamental behaviors for many animal species to
survive and require memory formation. Particularly, patients with autistic spectrum
disorders (ASD) exhibit several core symptoms, including impaired social activities
and repetitive behaviors, often combed with intellectual disability (ID). Memory
formation entails new protein synthesis from mRNAs stored at the synapses
responding to local stimuli. Neuronal transcripts interact with various mRNA binding
proteins (RBPs) and the RBPs ensure the targeted mRNAs to be translated only when
receiving proper environmental signals. Significant accomplishments have identified
over 1000 RNA binding proteins (RBPs) crucial for accurate post transcriptional

Our group is in the ideal position to address these problems. We are the first group
to demonstrate that the EJC factor, RBM8a, regulates anxiety like behaviors and
neuronal plasticity1. We have developed the RBM8a conditional knockout (cKO)
mice and our preliminary data demonstrated that region specific knockout of
RBM8a impairs social interaction and affect fear memory. Additionally, RNAseq
uncovered that RBM8a modulates a large set of genes overlapping with autism risk
genes, which are involved in neurotransmission and synaptic plasticity. However,
current knowledge gaps include how RBM8a regulates memory and synapse
development, which physiological neuronal substrates are directly regulated by
RBM8a in vivo during learning behaviors, and what happens to these transcripts
when the RBM8a level is altered. Our hypothesis is that RBM8a regulates activity
dependent neuronal plasticity and controls specific pools of transcripts in neurons
that are activated by social interaction and learning activities. Building on a novel
discovery of an essential role of RBM8a in social recognition, our goal in this
proposal is to identify targets that are most relevant for RBM8a dependent neuronal
defects and determine the effect on RNA substrates of RBM8a in the brain. To achieve
this goal, the following aims will be

In Alexander the Great by Philip Freeman, Alexander was portrayed as a clean
shaved man with lean cheeks, square jaw, and had a fierce look of determination.
He was born in July during the year 356 B.C. and was the son of Philip and Olympias

From the day Alexander could walk, he started his training in war. (page 18) He was

According to Freeman, by the end of his training in the healing arts, he could treat

Freeman wanted to turn the history of Alexander into a story, using modern sources.
He stated, My hope is that this narrative is authoritative and yet accessible to those
who love history . (Author s Note)
Freeman achieved his goal. His story provided the reader with great information on
the history of Alexander s life. I believe this book caught the eye of many history
lovers because he turned Alexander s life into a story, which is unique.
Why write another book about Alexander the Great when there is hundreds
available? Freeman s reason was selfish. He stated I grew up fascinated by this
man, so I couldn t resist the opportunity to immerse myself in the ancient and
modern sources on his life and to visit sites along his journey . (Author s Note) I
think there can never be enough books on any historical person because there is lots
of information to gather and write about. Also each book is written and interpreted

How would Paris, employees, and customers receive the new FS administration?
Would the values and standards of the company be compatible with those held by
French culture? The question was to decide what to keep and what could be changed
in their strategy when considering the elements of the French national culture and
legal aspects. The advantages that FSH had on its side were experience; they had
already been successful in other 23 countries reaching this balance using the diversity
singularity strategy, flexibility, they have shown setting an ever reducing number of
standards while increasing focus on their goals, and a strong set of values. The
success of the firm could mean entering a highly profitable market, improving the
image as a high level luxury hotel and the reinforcement of confidence for the top
management team about how operations were being run. If it were a failure, the
company would lose an investment of $125 million, two years of work, and
possibly damage their image in a very competitive environment. Two main factors
that could conspire against its success were national culture and legal issues. Even
though FSH already had some experience through its operations in Canada and the
Pierre Hotel in New York City (are we sure about the French culture at the hotel in
NY? Pg 8 ) in dealing with these elements, the FS George V was a new challenge all

An Assessment Of Natural History
Natural History
The natural history of CSM is difficult to determine because in the vast majority of
the cases the symptoms are associated with age and other neurologic conditions of the
patients. Different reports suggest different observations. An assessment of natural
history of disease advancement in CSM essentially involves the prognosis in the
absence of surgical interventions. The determination of prognosis involves evaluation
of validity, applicability, and results.
Most studies have examined CSM primarily in qualitative terms, usually without the
using objective outcome measures. Quantitative outcome measures for CSM are
many, but the most commonly used were the JOA score and Nurick scale. The JOA

Out of 44 patients with CSM, 28 patients were managed conservatively with the
cervical collar, among them 17 showing improvement over time. The authors felt that
cervical spondylotic myelopathy was a benign condition with a prolonged clinical
course and prolong periods during which there was no disease progression.
Roberts detailed a retrospective series of 24 patients with CSM which were
diagnosed by examination and myelography with average age of 54.2 years. This
study specified the 2 year period before to any treatment with mean follow up period
of 3.1 years, and patients were treated with bed rest and immobilization. The author
concluded that long duration severe symptoms predict poor outcome from
nonoperative therapy. The population in this study was heterogeneous, and objective
outcome measures were lacking.
Sadasivan et al. detailed 22 patients (average age 50.8 years) with symptom
durations averaging 6.3 years before the diagnosis of CSM with an average age of
50.8 years. This study specify nonhomogeneous sample without objective follow up
over variable duration. The author concluded that CSM may progress over years with
profound gait abnormality. Gait eventually involved in 100%.
Barnes and Saunders found that increased ROM and female sex predict to have a

Essay on A Standard Guide in Bond Investments
A Standard Guide in Bond Investments Millions of Americans are cautious as to how
they invest their money or where they should invest their money; whether it s to
invest in real estate, stocks, and mutual funds; or take a safer approach by choosing a
conservative options and invest in bonds. While establishing their financial planning,
most American chose to invest in stocks and mutual funds because of the potential in
hope of a larger return for their investment. Whereas, conservative bonds such as
government and corporate bonds offer lots of potential and investment growth in the
long run. Though there are risk and safety associated with many investments, the key

Conservative Investment Options: Bonds Why invest in Bonds? Corporate and
Government Bonds are no substitute for stocks, which in spite of the current
predicament in the market are probably still the best investment for the long haul.
However, bonds are a good option for the conservative investors. Bonds is a type of
security that functions like a loan, relatively in their best form are basically IOU s
receipts for money borrowed from the investor, they are issued by private companies,
municipalities, or government agencies. They bind the issuing organization to a
fixed amount on the maturity date, which is set when the instrument is issued
(Kiplinger s Personal Finance, 2003, p.1). Types of Government Bonds and Debt
Securities Bonds usually come in a variety of forms with each having its own
individual benefits, risks and tax considerations. Normally most bonds falls into four
general categories: corporate, government, government agencies and municipal
(Ameriprise, 2008). Meanwhile, government bonds are issued by the U.S. treasury
and backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government where they will repay
a specified amount of money, along with interest. Treasury Bills (T bill) is a short
term government security with maturities that are sold at a discount at their face
value with a minimum unit of $1,000 and sold
How 1960s Has Impacted And Influenced Today s Society
How have the 1960s dramatically impacted and influenced today s society? In today
s society, there are many controversial topics that we are facing today; we have the
1960s to thank for those things. The sixties was one of the most impactful decades
pertaining to culture revolutions; it is the decade that brought into play some of the
problems and privileges that the present is dealing with now. The sixties brought the
gay movement, women s rights, the drug revolution, and has also impacted music as
well. One of the most well known things about the sixties is its music. Bands in the
sixties started to break the conservative boundaries by talking about drugs and sex in
their music; the drugs and sex revolution in this music also... Show more content on

Drugs highly influence music in the sixties with bands such as The Byrds, The
Doors, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Strawberry Alarm Clock, and The
Beatles. These bands took inspiration from the affects that the drugs had on them
with their psychedelic properties. Drugs were also just starting to get introduced
and people were highly influenced with positive drug propaganda ( The 60 s ). So,
the positivity about drugs were influencing the bands and the bands were influencing
the people and the more dugs being bought, the more people heard about them, and
the more people heard about them, the more they were used, so basically it was just
an endless cycle of drug positivity.
So now there are more than a hundred thousand people in America who are being
influenced by this music that expresses sex and drug use in positive ways. Also,
with the invention for the birth control pill in 1960, the consequences of having
sex lessened and now women could be just as involved in it as men where. In 1962,
1.2 million American women were using it and by 1965 that number reached to 2.3
million women (Nikolchev). In the 1950s, sex would have barley been herd of
outside of marriage, but now into the sixties, it became more and more common for
teens and young adults to be irresponsible.
In today s society sex and drugs are common place. Media now a days show, talk
about, or make references to sex. Anyone could turn on their TV and
Symbols In The Alchemist By Paulo Coelho
Everything a person encounters in their life affects their view on the world. In The
Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, Santiago does not feel like he is fulfilling his life to
its highest potential. In order to achieve his full potential, he sells his sheep and
takes off on a journey to fulfill his personal legend. The story is not just about a boy
trying to carry out his personal legend, it is about the symbolic aspects of life and
how everything in a person s life affects them. Fate and omens are main motifs in The
Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo that helped Santiago find this way through his journey
and are shown by the symbolic stones from the king, the desert he traveled through
and the treasure that was found.
Urim and Thummim are magic stones that Melchizedek gives Santiago to take on
his journey bring him comfort as they answer his questions and relieve his doubts
about fulfilling his quest. The small stones he keeps in his pocket remind him of
the King who bestowed them upon him, along with stories emphasizing the
importance of following one s dreams. Towards the beginning of Santiago s
journey, he goes to ask the stones a question and realizes that they are not in his
pocket. He didn t consider mending the hole the stones could fall through any time
they wanted. He had learned that there were certain things one shouldn t ask about,
so as not to flee from one s own Personal Legend. I promised that I would make my
own decisions, he said to himself. (41)

Law, Fault Essay (Aqa)
Fault Essay (30 marks) Fault can be defined as legal responsibility or blame for an
offence or misdeed. It also refers to the mental state of the defendant. The basic
principle is that a D should be able to contemplate the harm that his actions may
cause and should therefore aim to avoid such actions. In general, a person cannot
be criminally liable and subjected to criminal sanctions unless it can be proved that
he carried out an illegal act in a blameworthy manner. An act does not make a man
guilty of a crime unless his mind is also guilty. The state of mind of the D is hugely
important in assessing whether or not he is at fault. However, to be found guilty of
most criminal offences (true crimes) both an AR and MR must be proved. The... Show

There are a few absolute liability offences, so convictions like these are rare. There
is no liability for omissions to act, even if the D is morally at fault, for example, no
by stander can be compelled by law to save a drowning child. Exceptions to this
general rule have been created where the law has imposed a duty to act. Pittwood
and Miller. Generally a failure, such as in these cases, will be punished less
severely than where a positive voluntary action has been committed. Causation: in
result of factual and legal causation must be established. In other words there will
be no liability if the D did not cause the result White. The decision on whether the
D is at fault may depend on which test for legal causation is used by the courts; a D
may escape liability if the daftness test in Roberts/Williams is applied, whereas the
harsher thins skull rule in Blaue may result in liability as it involves taking your
victim as you find him however daft or unpredictable they are. The MR is the
mental or fault element of the crime and is of key importance in establishing fault.
All of the non fatal offences require proof of fault for a conviction. For a s.18
offence, direct intention Mohan (highest level of fault as it is deliberate) or oblique
intention (lower level of fault as it was not the D s aim, but the D appreciated the
result was a virtual certainty Woollin) is required. This is because

of contractions (heart beats) of heart in one minute.
Heart beat varies for everyone as listed follows :
Childhood : 120 bpm
`Adult male: 70 bpm
Adult female: 75 bpm
But the reference range is between 60 bpm (bradycardia) 100 bpm (tachycardia) for
aged people.
Pulse rate is the direct way to measure heart rate, but it can vary when some heart
beats do not have much cardiac output. At that time heart rate may be higher than the
pulse rate.

All Men Are Created Equal Joseph Brant Analysis
The meaning of the phrase all men are created equal has evolved dramatically
since the time it was written, and continues to evolve. Today, it means we are all

Declaration of Independence, it only referred to the white men that owned land.
Women, slaves, and Native Americans were not included in all men . In the

Illustrative Essay. Illustrative essay examples. 40 Interesting and Fun Illustration ...

  • 1. Illustrative Essay Crafting an illustrative essay can prove to be a challenging endeavor, demanding a delicate balance of creativity, precision, and a keen observational eye. Unlike other types of essays, the illustrative essay necessitates the ability to vividly depict scenarios, events, or concepts with a rich tapestry of details that captivate the reader's imagination. The challenge lies not only in presenting a clear and coherent narrative but in doing so with a depth that goes beyond superficial descriptions. One of the primary difficulties arises in selecting appropriate examples that effectively illustrate the chosen theme. This involves a meticulous process of brainstorming and evaluating potential scenarios that not only align with the central idea but also resonate with the reader. Striking the right balance between variety and relevance adds another layer of complexity, as the essay must avoid becoming a mere list of disconnected instances. Furthermore, constructing a seamless flow throughout the essay is a considerable challenge. Each example should seamlessly transition into the next, creating a cohesive narrative that holds the reader's attention. Achieving this requires a nuanced understanding of pacing, structure, and the art of transitioning between diverse examples without losing the essay's thematic thread. In addition, the illustrative essay demands a heightened emphasis on sensory details and imagery. This emphasis adds a layer of difficulty, as the writer must find the right words to evoke vivid mental images without overwhelming the reader with excessive detail. Striking this balance requires finesse and a deep understanding of the emotional impact that carefully chosen words can have on the reader's experience. Despite the challenges, mastering the art of writing an illustrative essay can be a rewarding experience. It sharpens not only one's descriptive skills but also the ability to communicate complex ideas through relatable and engaging examples. The process of refining this skillset may be arduous, but it ultimately results in an essay that not only informs but also captivates the reader's imagination. For those seeking assistance with such tasks or similar endeavors, there are resources available. Various platforms, like HelpWriting.net, offer services to help individuals navigate the intricacies of essay writing. Whether it's guidance on topic selection, structuring ideas, or refining the language for a more impactful presentation, these resources can provide valuable support for those looking to excel in the art of illustrative essay writing and more. • 6. The Misunderstandings of Socialism Quotes like Winston Churchill s have become part of the political rhetoric when leaders discuss the idea of socialism. In current events you can see the exact same argumentation being used against legislation such as the Affordable Health Care Act. Conservative talking heads such as Bill O Reilly equate it to socialismbecause, as Mr. O Reilly says himself, [i]n order to provide for the have nots, the far left wants the federal government to seize the assets of solvent Americans. That s what ObamaCare [the Affordable Health Care Act] is all about taking from those who can afford health care to provide for those who cannot (O Reilly). This simplification of socialism does not do justice to the actual paradigm itself. Instead, in this paper I will try to refute our current idea of socialism because of a lack of understanding. The explanations and descriptions by Michael W. Doyle in his chapters on Marxist and Leninist socialism paints a picture that allows one to see how socialism could be beneficial to the common man while also critiquing the negative myths held by modern society. Initially we shall examine the concept of Karl Marxand Friedrich Engels view of Socialism as described by Michael W. Doyle. At the very beginning of the chapter he states that [Marx and Engels] are perhaps best known for the materialist conception of history in which the conditions of production shape all other areas of society institutions, laws, ideas and morality (Doyle 322). I told him it doesn t look like bad weather is coming though, the sun is still out. He then responded by saying you ll see; his instinct is never wrong. The unnamed man s biggest mistake is underestimating the force of nature and as he steps out into unimaginable weather conditions, it is clear he is unprepared. In fact, he carried nothing but the lunch wrapped in the handkerchief. He was surprised, however, at the cold. It certainly was cold, he concluded, as he rubbed his numb nose and cheekbones with his mitted hand. He was a warm whiskered man but the hair on his face did not protect the high cheekbones and the eager nose that thrust itself aggressively into the frosty air (108). This quotation demonstrates that he was unprepared and underestimated this journey. He should have carefully considered all factors relating to under packing, underdressing, and the issue of possible frostbite/death, and he shouldn t have underestimated the fact that he cannot control natures conditions such as negative fifty degree weather. On the other hand, the dog from the very start is hesitant to accompany the man on his journey. The animal was depressed by the tremendous cold. It knew that it was no time for travelling. Its instinct told it a truer tale than was told to the man by the man s judgment. (108). As the story continues, London contrasts the man and his dog throughout the story. It is basically a man s knowledge versus a dog s instinct. Of course the dog has better
  • 9. Economic Variables And Monetary Policy As was mentioned above rising in oil prices influence the increase in inflation. And it is big dilemma for monetary policy, because arise a question what should central banks do? Should they tighten monetary policy to correct the effects of oil prices increases and prevent inflation? Or they should take in oil prices increases with easy monetary policyto support growth of output and employment. In this situation, central banks have these two main problems. The point is that central banks can do nothing for preventing of an increasing of world oil prices from harming oil importing countries. The country will less other services or goods when oil import will be paid, or to understand how to leave and consume less oil, go deeper to depth. So, monetary policy can help only what forms of damages takes. The second problem is that central banks have little control of real economic variables, because of neutrality of money. Monetary policy can control only the growth and nominal GDP. If a country has output growth, but at the same time inflationgrowth as output grow, this situation has nothing beneficial to a county citizens. So, if we put all these together, it becomes understandable that central bankof an importing country have limiting options to deal with oil price shock. They can apply tighten policy to keep inflation from rise, but in this case real GDP will decrease or will be behind the growth of potential GDP. As a result, a country will have negative output gap and

Lewis, a well known author and apologist, is best known by people of all ages for his seven volume series entitled The Chronicles of Narnia. As Lewis wrote about the land of Narnia, an imaginary world visited by children of this world, he had two obvious purposes: to entertain the readers and to suggest analogies of the Christian faith. Although some feel that his stories are violent, Lewis is successful at using fiction to open peoples hearts to accepting Christ as their Savior because he first entertains the audience with a wonderful story. But how should Lewis go about getting past those who are not open to the idea of Christianity? He believed that the best way to do this was to present it in a fictional world, a world in which it would be easier to accept. The audience grows to love Aslan and everything that he symbolizes; they begin to wish for someone like Aslan in this world. After finding this love for Aslan, they will ideally transfer that love to Christ when presented with the Gospel later in life. It is important to remember that The Chronicles of Narnia are successful because many readers do not realize the resemblance of Aslan to Jesus Christ. Even though Christian themes are present, the Chronicles are not dependent on them (Schakel 132). Peter J. Competition for Increasingly Scarce Resources in the 21st Century Introduction During the 1960s, dire Malthusian warnings about the impact of overpopulation, consumption and resource depletion caused only a ripple of concern in the international community as the Green Revolution and modern birth control methods and practices appeared to provide a viable solution to these problems. Unfortunately, even though innovations in agricultural practices have increased yields even further than during the second half of the 20th century, most authorities agree that realistic limits are already being reached. Complicating issues for policymakers today is the paradoxical nature of population growth, with many wealthy nations experienced negative population growth while a number of impoverished developing nations are experiencing explosive population growth, placing even heavier demands on already scant resources. To determine how the issues of overpopulation, consumption, and resource depletion relate to wealthy nations and developing nations and how can these issues be addressed, this paper provides a review of the relevant literature, followed by a summary of the research and important findings in the conclusion. According to Bella DePaulo, Ph.D., a person will lie one in every five times of their daily interactions (Chiu, Hong, Chiu, 2016). Deceit, whether for a high stake reason such as to cover up a crime, or a little white lie such as, Your hair looks great, can be difficult to detect. Discerning whether a person is being honest has yet to become a science, but researchers have found techniques that are effective in uncovering the truth. While there are several different ways interrogators discern the truth from a lie, this paper will focus on the detection of deception through the carefully crafted interview technique of reading facial expressions. It is believed that if an interviewer is properly trained to question a subject, the truth can be uncovered and deceit can be detected approximately 70% of the time (Vrij Granhag, 2014). To discover if this can be done, an experiment will be conducted in a controlled environment to determine if an interviewer can accurately detect falsified emotions on different subjects. These conditions if left untreated will lead to patients that are unable to form cognitive structures for illness related events, develop improper psychological adjustments, poor decision making, and traumatic stress responses (Mishel 1988). The inconsistency is viewed as information from health care providers that may change or is inconsistent with other information previously presented. Unpredictability is how the present illness differs from what the patient has experienced previously. According to Baily, et al. Thus, patients must face the unknown factors of their disease progression and manage life with their chronic illness. In Chronic Hepatitis C, tracking of outcomes and progressions are difficult, and disease trajectory varies from person to person (Baily, et al 2009). In addition, uncertainty stems from lack of knowledge of the disease, loss of control, and expectations of possible relapse of symptoms in the future. The study conducted by Baily, et al. • 32. Republic Of Outsiders Analysis Activism is defined as the policy or action of using vigorous campaigning to bring about political or social change by the Oxford Dictionary online. Traditionally, this is the commonly accepted and widespread definition used to label the renegades of society, the fighters for justice, and the believers in change. This trend of societal self modification has predicated our prevailing view of activism, because social change is, and always has been, a part of human evolution. Nowadays we are faced with a polymorphous concept of activism that baffles everyone from academics to activists themselves. Richard Nixon Checkers Speech Analysis Guilty or Innocent:Richard Nixon s Checkers Richard Nixon successfully used Pathos throughout his Checkers Speech to appeal to the emotions of the American people. Nixon, more commonly known for being one of the most hated presidents that the United States has endured, is exceptionally brilliant. He used technology to help him plead his innocence, as he televised his big Checkers Speechfor the entire United States to hear. While being accused of accepting millions of dollars and putting them into a slush fund , Nixon stood firm and exclaimed to the public, I want to make this particularly clear that no contributor to this fund, no contributor to any of my campaigns, has ever received any consideration that he would not have received as an ordinary constituent (par. 6)that he had no part in anything fraudulent. However he does admit to taking one gift his Cocker Spaniel named Checkers. Other than Checkers, which he receives nor gives any favoritism for accepting, he is an honest, hardworking man. He stated that he did not care for the opinion of the public I just want to say this, right now, that regardless of what they say about it, we re gonna keep it (par. 26) because his children fell in love with it, and he couldn t bring himself to take it away from them. Throughout Nixon s speech, he presents the illusion that he is in fact broke , thus appealing to poverty. He gives multiple examples of his financial situations by stating, I owe 4500 dollars to the Riggs Bank in Washington, D.C., with interest 4 and 1/2 percent. I owe 3500 dollars to my parents, and the interest on that loan, which I pay regularly, because it s the part of the savings they made through the years they were working so hard I pay regularly 4 percent interest. And then I have a 500 dollar loan, which I have on my life insurance. (par. 23) which also establishes credibility with his audience. He also says, But Pat and I have the satisfaction that every dime that we ve got is honestly ours. I should say this, that Pat doesn t have a mink coat. But she does have a respectable Republican cloth coat, and I always tell her she d look good in anything (par. 25) showing that money is not the reason he is running
  • 37. Braking Control System Design This part of the book deals with the main aspects of both braking control. Specifically, the basic solutions to braking control systems design are introduced based on the actuators, with continuous and discrete dynamics. When designing a control system the first step is to define the controlled variable. Two possible choices will considered. It will be shown how wheel slip control is the natural choice in this case. The problem of how to design the control taking into account the actuator dynamics and the activation/deactivation logic will not be explicitly addressed. Also, the use of an actuator with discrete dynamics, which introduces limit cycles, won t be analyzed in this thesis. 6 2 Wheel Slip Control Commercial braking systems are based on heuristic methods related to wheel deceleration. However, it is clear that the slip control problem is more suitable for the design of braking controllers that are robust with respect to road surface variations, the design steps for the synthesis of a linear wheel slip controller will be presented and discussed. The wheel slip control has a straight forward graphical interpretation (figure 6 3). It should be noted that whatever the value the set point , the regulation scheme guarantees the uniqueness of the equilibrium point. Also, as long as 0.1 0.2 the friction coefficient is close to its optimal value for every road condition. That issue is very important since it allows the use of a fixed structure controller, with no need

D Limonene is an all natural insecticide. When termites come in contact with this active ingredient, it immediately poisons them and destroys all of their cell membranes. • 39. Blocking Diode Is Useful Tool For Limiting The Direction... Blocking diode The blocking diode is a helpful tool for limiting the direction energy can flow through a wire to just one direction. It uses a semiconductor P/N junction achieve this behavior. The diagram shows a simple setup with two panels charging a battery (for simplicity no controller is shown) with a blocking diode in series with the two panels, which are also wired in series. When the sun shines, as long as the voltage produced by the two panels is greater than that of the battery, charging will take place. However, in the dark, when no voltage is being produced by the panels, the voltage of the battery would cause a current to flow in the opposite direction through the panels, discharging the battery, if it was not for the blocking diode in the circuit. Blocking diodes will be of benefit in any system using solar panels to charge a battery. Blocking diodes are usually included in the construction of solar panels so further blocking diodes are not required. Most photovoltaic solar panels are used to charge a battery during the daytime. Nearly all panels come equipped with a blocking diode. The diode prevents DC current from flowing backwards from the battery bank into the panel at night. The usual blocking device of choice is a schottky diode with a typical 0.5v voltage drop. In some large panels, which can often source over 4 Amps of current, the power loses due to this voltage drop

As Wolfram points out, the politics of linguistics necessitates a knowledgeable response rooted in research and pedagogical practice. When addressing the needs of a linguistically diverse population, it becomes crucial to examine the ways that educationis failing to help students acquire languagemastery and also failing to train teachers properly in English language instruction. A prevailing research question is as follows: what are the best ways to foster English mastery within a linguistically diverse cultural landscape? Research shows almost universally that linguistic diversity is a desirable scenario, rather than a detriment to learning. Moreover, the goal of education is far from being the creation of a homogeneous society. Education has many different goals, which will differ according to the individual needs and desires of students. However, students do need to learn how to thrive in an increasingly heterogeneous society. Academic, social, psychosocial and financial success hinges not just on the mastery of proper English but also on the mastery of cultural sensitivity. A review of literature highlights some of the core issues at stake with regards to the questions of how to best foster English mastery within a linguistically diverse society. Wolfram advocates an examination of linguistic scholarship, referring to the myriad of uninformed opinions that abound among

Our group is in the ideal position to address these problems. We are the first group to demonstrate that the EJC factor, RBM8a, regulates anxiety like behaviors and neuronal plasticity1. We have developed the RBM8a conditional knockout (cKO) mice and our preliminary data demonstrated that region specific knockout of RBM8a impairs social interaction and affect fear memory. Additionally, RNAseq uncovered that RBM8a modulates a large set of genes overlapping with autism risk genes, which are involved in neurotransmission and synaptic plasticity. However, current knowledge gaps include how RBM8a regulates memory and synapse development, which physiological neuronal substrates are directly regulated by RBM8a in vivo during learning behaviors, and what happens to these transcripts when the RBM8a level is altered. Our hypothesis is that RBM8a regulates activity dependent neuronal plasticity and controls specific pools of transcripts in neurons that are activated by social interaction and learning activities. Building on a novel discovery of an essential role of RBM8a in social recognition, our goal in this proposal is to identify targets that are most relevant for RBM8a dependent neuronal defects and determine the effect on RNA substrates of RBM8a in the brain.
