Snake Venom
Intro Each year around 1 million people world wide are bitten by snakes, and around 30,000 to 40,000
of the snake bite victims die from the venomous injection of a venomous snake. Of the 2,000 species
of snakes, about 400 are venomous. The cobra, coral snake, and rattlesnake are common examples of
venomous snakes. (Snake2). Knowing this information and more can possibly save yours or
somebody else s life when put into a situation when you have been bitten by a snake and can t identify
it, this paper will educate you on what to do in case of a snake bite and how the venom works on the
human body. Snake bite the wound made by the fangs of a venomous snake or the teeth of a non

Human susceptibility to snake venom is generally estimated from the LD50 for rodents. The next
factor in assessing the danger of a partiticular species of snake is the dose of venom that is actually
introduced into the tissues. Some types of snakes have an extremely efficient mechanism of injection
venom with a sing strike; others have poor success in doing so. The amount of venom produced by
snakes that is available for secretion with a bite also varies between kinds of snakes, and between
individuals (usually by size) of any one species (reptipage 1). Symptoms of venomous snakebites. The
symptoms vary not only with the type of venom injected, but also with the amount. A snake may
release no venom at all, or it may release as much as 75% of the total amount stored in its venom
glands. Often when a snake bites in self defense, it injects less venom than when it attacks its prey.
The physical condition of the victim and the location of the bite also affect the severity of the
symptoms. A bite into a muscle is less dangerous than a bite into a blood vessel, for example, because
toxins in the blood are quickly circulated through the body. General symptoms of snakebite include
localized pain and swelling soon after the bite occurs, followed by nausea, tingling or numbness,
weakness, and shortness of breath. If victims do not receive treatment within a few hours, they may
suffer convulsions, fall into a coma,

I Stand Here Ironing, an Analysis Essay
I Stand Here Ironing by Tillie Olsen is a short story that talks about a handicapped child. Emily had to
struggle a whole lot on her short life, but at the end she proved to be a very strong child. Tillie Olsen s
characterization of Emily shows a strong female protagonist who overcomes numerous odds:
loneliness, humbleness, vulnerability, and her disability.
The story is based on a child named Emily that has a physical disability. Emily lived in a family of
five children. She always had a reason why we should stay home (Olsen 601). Emily is lonely. When
she was a toddler, she was left in a day care so Emily s mom could bring income to the house. Emily
is a child that, as many others, grew up mostly on day care. Emily was ... Show more content on

and riddles to company for applause while Emily sat silent (to say to me later: that was my riddle,
Mother, I told it to Susan) (Olson 603). Emily was a child that did not have any envy towards her
sister Susan, because she was so much different in many aspects. The difference of the age did not
interfere. Emily was always willing to play and teach her sister new things. They shared so many
things and enjoyed the company of each other. Their mother sometimes would keep Emily home so
they could spend time together. Emily would take advantage of her illnesses, so her mom would keep
her home.
Emily is very vulnerable mostly because of her appearance. She tormented herself enough about not
looking like the others, there was enough of the unsureness, the having to be conscious of works
before you speak, the constant caring what are they thinking of me? Without having it all magnified
by the merciless physical drivers (Olson 603). Emily is a skinny, fragile, and sick child, and in the
outer world, other kids without values would point her out. Emily is always insecure about what she
says, or does in front of others. The insecurity of not being able to be her own person is always on her
mind.
Emily spends time with her mother at night time. She makes

City Of Detroit Case Study
On Thursday, July 28, 2013, Detroit, Michigan became the largest city in America ever to file for
bankruptcy. Established in 1701, Detroit was founded by the French explorer Antoine de la Mothe
Cadillac and a party of settlers. None of these men had any idea that Detroit would evolve into the
thriving hub of the car industry in centuries to come. In 1756, the smallpox virus and a famine
threatened the many settlers in Detroit, but did not decimate the population enough to cause the city to
collapse. In 1802, Detroit officially became a chartered city. In the United States, a charter city is a
city in which the governing system is defined by the city s own charter document rather than by state,

Detroit police against inner city black residents, and escalated to National Guard troops being called in

7,200 civilians were arrested. 60,000 black residents of Virginia Park neighborhood were packed into
only 460 acres and were ready to explode. One night, an illegal nightclub near the neighborhood was
hosting a party on the corner of 12th street when police arrived to arrest those in the establishment.
When one bottle crashed on the street, the police showed no interest; but when many glass bottles

Stylistic Elements In The Wizard Of Oz
A film depends on the involvement and receptiveness of the audience. It is the minds of the audience
that determine the enjoyment of watching a film. As human beings, we are known to be a species that
are fundamentally seeking patterns. We attempt to create logical connections between different events
or elements and invest our own meaning in neutral objects and occurrences. We can create structure
and form, as well as interpret it. As such, we all possess a remarkable talent for both telling and
understanding films. It is in this sense that watching a film is an activity where the mind is actively
engaged with the work, making connections and associations in an effort to bring together separate
elements. Films work like this because they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this paper, I will be discussing how various stylistic elements such as mise en scene,
cinematography, editing and sound in The Wizard of Oz and Psycho enable the audience to better
enjoy watching both films which support Smith s claim a richer kind of pleasure .
The Wizard of Oz has revealed to be an exceptionally well thought out film when analysed. The film
has made use of stylistic elements such as colour, light, sound and mise en scene which coincide with
the various twists and turns of the plot as Dorothy moves from Kansas, to Oz, and back again. In The
Wizard of Oz, the director, Victor Fleming, has employed the use of different unique editing
techniques despite being an early film. It is obvious that the audience is able to notice the absence of
colour in the beginning and ending of the film. The audience identifies the mood and overall feeling
for Dorothy when she is in her family farm in Kansas. The lack of colour shows the audience how
boring and normal her life is in Kansas

What Is The Mood Of The Last Chapter Of Remembrance By...
The Speaker s of Remembrance and Wuthering Heights react differently for the same struggle. The
tone of the last stanza of Remembrance is similar to the tone of the last chapter of Wuthering Heights.
Both works have a sullen mood and each speaker wants to move on from their memories. The way
Emily Bronte wrote the last stanza mirrors the feelings of Heathcliff in the last chapter of Wuthering
Heights. Both works seem to be tied together, as Remembrance reflects the feelings of Heathcliff, a
main character of the novel. While the reactions are different, the characters feelings addressed in
Remembrance and Wuthering Heights can relate to one another. Not do the characters have different
conclusions of what they should do, they also have different assumptions about themselves in the end.

The loved ones of both are gone and they do not know whom to turn to. This sets a melancholy tone to
each work and allows the reader to understand what they are feeling. However, though they feel the
same, both speaker s seem to address their feelings differently from each other. While the speaker in
Remembrance chooses to deal with her pain, Heathcliff takes the opposite path.
Emily Bronte wrote both characters as feeling lost and upset in their life, however, the outcome for
each is quite different. Though the speaker of Remembrance feels upset and empty, she does not let
that overtake her and continues living. On the other hand, Heathcliff lets his emotions control his
actions and allows it to make decisions for him. Unfortunately, Heathcliff stopped eating and allowed
himself to get sick, which eventually killed him. They express their feelings differently, despite going

The Autobiography of Malcom X as Told to Alex Haley Essay
Statement of Purpose
Alex Haley is the author of the book. The central theme of the book is to reflect the perspective of a
black man in an era that called for equality struggles between races in the United States while battling
views on racism and his rise and fall within the Nation of Islam religion.
The author s purpose for writing the book was for the reader to gain knowledge of Malcolm X as an
individual and not as a phenomenon. He wanted to deliver truths that spanned his brief lifetime.
Alex Haley s qualifications to write the book were simply that he was a black man in America during
the same time span as Malcolm X and his earlier work had focused on the struggles of African
Americans in the United States in particular. Haley ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He becomes immersed in the night life and consumed with everything it has to offer. Just shy of being
twenty one he was sent to prison for 10 years. At this pivotal point in his life, he converts to the Black
Muslim religion. The other crucial life altering event took place in 1963 when evidence was
uncovered regarding the Honorable Elijah Mohammad s human frailties and lack of moral character.
This revelation prompted a holy journey that yet again changed Malcolm s thought process that was
evident at the end of his life.
Critique
This autobiography of Malcolm X was spellbinding. The fascinating persona of this man was
phenomenal. As he describes his education in one part of the book, Gentlemen, I finished the eighth
grade in Mason, Michigan. My high school was the black ghetto of Roxbury,
Massachusetts. My college was in the streets of Harlem, and my master s was taken in prison is just
amazing. This book did not contain any illustrations, pictures, or tables. The author was extremely
descriptive in telling the story. His writing style made the reader to become a part of the story telling
experience. I could visualize the experiences and places that were included in the book. For example,
when he told about the conking of his hair, how it felt when his scalp was burning, although it was a
painful experience, it was humorous to me as a reader. I could imagine the lindy hopping dances he
talked about. How he would whirl them around,

Me And Earl And The Dying Girl Analysis
Review of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (hereafter Me and Earl) was the big hit coming out of this year s
Sundance Film Festival, winning both the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize. Thus, Me and
Earl duplicated the feat that Whiplash managed last year. Since I liked Whiplash, I wanted to see Me
and Earl. Since Me and Earl features characters with which I should easily identify, I wanted to see it
even more. It did not disappoint my high expectations.
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl tells the story of Greg (Thomas Mann), a loner in high school, and his
doomed friendship with Rachel (Olivia Cooke). The awkward Greg only wants to survive high school,
and to accomplish this goal he ingratiates himself with every student in the school. He has no friends,
only acquaintances, but he makes no enemies, either. Greg does, however, hang out with his co worker
Earl (RJ Cyler), who he has known since kindergarten and makes parodies of classic films with. When
one of Greg s classmates, Rachel, is diagnosed with leukemia, Greg s mother (Connie Britton) forces
him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At times, Me and Earl is downright hilarious. Nearly every time Earl talks, I laughed or smiled. The
silly parodies Greg and Earl make of classic movies are funny on multiple levels, whether title or their
rendition of famous scenes. (Examples include Brew Velvet, 2:48 PM Cowboy, A box of lips wow,
and A Sockwork Orange, all of which include amusing scenes. It should also be noted that another
highlight of this movie is its infectious love of other movies). The funniest bit, however, comes from a
touch by the director Alfonso Gomez Rejon. Greg describes hot girls as moose that accidently trample
on lame guys (chipmunks). Whenever the film s resident attractive girl approaches Greg, Gomez
Rejon shows a Claymation moose stomping on a chipmunk. I laughed every time this

Dent Island
4 Tips To Enjoy Your Vacation
Here are the four best ways to enhance your vacation experience on Dent Island. Important tips
include organizing and planning the trip, balancing the amount of activities in a specific time frame,
stepping outside your comfort zone trying new things, and establishing a deep connection with nature.
Planning Things Ahead of Time
Organizing each activity in advance would release the burden of winging it. On the flip side, planning
things ahead of time could also become extremely challenging because it requires lots of research,
which is a time consuming task. This could become an inconvenience for a business person with many
responsibilities on their plate because they do not have the time to spare. Well, there is light at the end
of the tunnel! Setting up a Jet Boat Adventure Tour will relieve all the stress and pain associated with
planning a trip because the company owning the tour does all the research and preparation work for
you.
2. Step Outside Your Comfort Zone
Sometimes familiarity breeds contempt, and therefore stepping outside your comfort zone and doing
different things is a great way to really enjoy a vacation. Travelers with an adventurous spirit will
sometimes close their eyes, spin a globe, and place their forefinger on a location and go there.
Although this is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After each activity is decided, it is time to create balance to make sure there is enough time to enjoy
every one of them. Try not cram too many activities into one day because that could take away from
the experience. Although Dent island offers freshwater and saltwater salmon fishing, other outdoor
activities include kayaking and hiking as well. After spending a day on the raft or battling the Chinook
salmon, the Dent Island Lodge restaurant offers a luxury experience of fine dining along with

Text dependent speaker recognition follows the technique of detecting speakers based on the text. i.e
all the speakers will be saying the same thing and the goal
2
is to distinguish the speakers. Text dependent speaker recognition was chosen because a lot of the
access based security systems use speech as a way of blocking unwanted individuals. The main goal
was to increase the accuracy of the text dependent speaker recognition performance. Now a days there
is a lot of talk going about creating hardware modules which can take care of recognition of speech or
face or other patterns as iris recognition and the list goes on. The primary reason behind this is the fact
that we all want to automate things like speech recognition, which reduces manpower in many areas
and also because of the vastness of data available these days, it is humanely impossible to recognize
patterns within these data‟s. Speech is more of a behavioral part of the human being as it deals with
the vocal tract of a human being. The reason behind going for algorithms like MFCC ,GMM is the
fact that they are very popular and

Examples Of Pathos In Medea
Euripides s Medea is a Greek tragedy set in fifth century BC Athens that depicts the plotting of Medea
s revenge, who herself was wronged and betrayed by her husband. Like other tragedies, we can see
that emotions are at the heart of Medea. These emotions are resonant and altruistic such that we feel
for other people who have no direct connection with us nor belong in the same world. This ability to
evoke the outgoing emotion in the audience opposed to an introverted self absorption view is
characteristic of Greek tragedy. Similarly, Euripides handles the complexity of his characters,
supplying an element of pathos to his audience in the process. From the cries of Medea lamenting on
the injustice suffered by her, to her dilemma over the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An essential point to note is that like Medea, Jason cannot be labeled as a typical villain with only evil
thoughts. It is revealed that his desire to marry the princess was nothing about the princess . Instead, it
was to protect (Medea) and to father some royal sons , ultimately for security . Just like Medea, Jason
is too a victim of the forces of human nature and society shown through his desire to climb the social
ladder through marriage. He was not a heartless villain but instead, he still cares for Medea and his
sons. Hence, this makes the final scene when Jason arrives after his sons infanticide even more
striking in its pathos. It is interesting to note at this point, Euripides employs deus ex machina to save
Medea from the consequence of her crimes through the escape in Helios s dragon chariot. Jason is
hence left on stage alone and appears to be completely defeated emphasised by the image of a
triumphant Medea in the chariot. He is left childless and his bride gone along with his dreams of
power. Euripides hence effectively builds up to this scene through the application of the deus ex
machina and the handling of Jason s character. Ultimately, this evokes strong pathos as his lone figure
left on stage leaves a lasting impression on the

Examples Of Caricatures In A Tale Of Two Cities
A Tale of Two Caricatures
Writers have always set out to create realistic characters. Some have succeeded in creating characters
with unique goals and personalities while others fail to truly optimize the potential of their characters
and instead have relied on some discernible caricatures. For example, from A Tale of Two Cities by
Charles Dickens, written in 1858 to Crash, released in 2005, characters have been praised for their
originality and criticized for being stereotypical and bland. However while some characters may
appear to be caricatures, both Dickens and Haggis were constrained by time and societies explanation,
forcing them to rely on some caricatures to make the story more accessible. Both Dickens and Robert

Manette chooses to speak up, but the Evremonde brothers subdue him and lock him in the Bastille. In
there, Dr. Manette s enmity for the Evremondes continues to grow where he denounces the
Evremonde brothers and the rest the Evremonde bloodline until they die out. As the revolution
continues to grow, Dr. Manette s is finally given an opportunity to end the Evremonde bloodline. The
bloodthirsty mob of the rebellion storms La Force, where Charles Evremonde is currently held. The
mob detests anyone that had any remote connection to the French Aristocracy and would gladly
murder him. Had Dr. Manette not used his influence as a Bastille survivor, Charles would ve been
gored on the street. Despite his hatred for the Evremonde family, Dr. Manette forgoes his past to save
the husband of one very dear to him. Finally, Dr. Manette is able to move on from the years of hatred
in the Bastille, and he personally vouches for the Evremonde at his trial. Ultimately, Dr. Manette
ceases to hold the Evremonde bloodline responsible for the heinous actions committed and had instead
worked tirelessly to save his son in law. Through Dr. Manette, Dickens portrays a character that not
only complete contradicts his initial caricature of a vengeful prisoner but also grows into someone
willing to forgive someone who had wronged him.
Despite such a strong lead character, where Dickens fell flat, especially for modern readers, was with

The Effects Of Homelessness On The City
Introduction As the winter approaches we are forced to remember the severity of homelessness in the
City. As of 2014, based on data provided by the Coalition for the Homeless, there are 59,246 people
sleeping in shelters. It costs the City $3,500 a month to house a homeless person, adding up to $856
million a year. There are thousands more who sleep on the streets, but due to lack of data we are not
sure of the exact number. Shelters only provide a temporary solution; on average a person is allowed
to stay in a shelter for a maximum of 180 days. How can that individual/family regain their self
sufficiency in a city where the rent is amongst the highest in the country, and affordable housing is
limited. Nearly half of all New York City residents pay more than 30 percent of their income on
housing. Median rents have risen 75 percent since 2000, at the same time, that median incomes have
declined, and between 1994 and 2012, the city lost 105,242 of rent regulated housing. To address this
problem, and restore these people sense of citizenship, we need a citywide reform of the housing
system.
Since housing conditions vary significantly from state to state, it is important for state and localities to
develop their own housing strategies. The two basic components that affect housing in New york,
which need to be addressed to reform the affordable housing system are 1) many families have
incomes that are too low to afford the costs to maintain a home 2) constraints on the

Looking Backward By Edward Bellamy, And Fahrenheit 451
Have you ever wondered what a perfect world would be like? To you it could mean no more war, no
more poverty, every person of every race and gender being treated exactly the same. However, to
someone else their idea of a perfect world could be the complete opposite of what you would want. In
Looking Backward by Edward Bellamy, and Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury the idea of a perfect
world is not just an idea anymore, it becomes reality. Nevertheless, both books perfect world are
completely different from one another. The theme of both books is to try and find that perfect world,
and maintain it. While there are many may differences between the two, the underlying truth still
remains the same. In Bellamy s novel, we start out in the late nineteenth century. Julian West, the main
character, was born into an aristocratic family. Just as the rest of his class did, Julian thought of
himself to be a higher rated citizen to the rest of the population. Julian had everything, even his fiancé
Edith was an aristocrat, and together they felt as if they could take on the world. The gap between the
rich and the poor sometimes affected the rich just as much as it did the poor. The two were to get
married as soon as their house was finished, but strikes from the poor construction workers were
prolonging that process. Julian had been suffering from insomnia all of his life, so he hired a hypnotist
to help him get his sleep. He even went to the extent to build a secret underground chamber

Football South Essay
During the last few years, the AFC South has solidified itself as one of the weakest divisions in the
NFL. In the past two seasons alone, a 9 7 record has proven good enough to clinch the AFC South
title, and the division hasn t seen a Wild Card qualifier since the Indianapolis Colts in 2012. Despite a
usually competitive division race, the chase for AFC South supremacy hasn t necessarily translated
into interesting football.
Last season, the Houston Texans managed to win the AFC South s first playoff game since the 2014
Indianapolis Colts, thanks to a favorable matchup against an Oakland Raiders team forced to start
third string rookie quarterback Connor Cook because of injuries. But of late, the division winner has

Scenario 3: Watson starts, but struggles or gets injured and the Texans are forced to replace him.
Although the Texans have made the playoffs the past two seasons, despite any real semblance of an
NFL caliber quarterback, their division rivals have improved enough to overtake them atop the
division if their offense continues to prove inept. Therefore, only in Scenario 2 will the Texans reach
the playoffs for a third straight season.
Indianapolis Colts
It s easy to sympathize with Colts fans for the pain and misery they had to endure under former
general manager Ryan Grigson. However, after years of injuries, draft mismanagement and free agent
busts, Colts fans can finally move on with the hiring of new general manager Chris Ballard.
Despite Grigson s best efforts as general manager from 2012 2016, Ballard still has plenty of pieces to
work with offensively, as Andrew Luck, T.Y. Hilton and age defying running back Frank Gore are still
on the roster. If the Colts can protect Luck for more than four seconds on drop backs, which hasn t
necessarily been the case, the trio will assuredly produce results.
Defensively, Ballard and defensive coordinator Ted Monachino have a much taller task ahead

Mercantilist ideas emphasized that nations should strive toward economic self sufficiency and that the
power of a nation should be measured by the amount of its gold and silver reserves. Ultimately, a
nation should arrange to produce everything it needed for its own citizens and sell surpluses to for
hard currency. This metal reserve, in turn, could be used in emergency situations to pay for wars or
solve shortages. Colonies, like those England had in North America, played an important part in this
economic equation. They could help England become self sufficient by producing things that could
not be made or grown there such as tobacco, sugar, and tall masts for ships. Colonists could also
provide a market for British goods, particularly manufactured products, such as woolen cloth or
beaver hats. This meant that the home economy in England could become more fully developed, while
the colonial economies were relegated to a role of supplying raw materials. To insure that the
American colonies would contribute to this overall sense of British wealth, various Navigation Acts
were passed beginning in 1650 to regulate trade between the colonies, England, and the rest of the
world. In many cases, ships carrying American products to other European countries had to stop in
England first to pay duties before continuing onward. Also, goods traveling to and from America had

What Does Christian Faith Mean To Me
What does my Christian faith mean to me? Faith is a gift from God. Faith means I won t go to hell
when I die. We were God s perfect creation. Being the loving God he is he gave us free will. We
abused that free will and fell into sin. God loved us so much he sent his own son Jesus (who is also
God) down to earth, Jesus was willingly tortured and slaughtered by the people he came to save,
dragged the sins of the world into the pits of hell and rose again so that everyone can go to heaven and
be God s children if they have faith. Jesus didn t stop there. He stayed and taught people for 40 days,
promised that the the Holy Spirit (who is also God) would come and then ascended into heaven. 10
days later the Holy Spirit came on Pentecost.

Hester Prynne Symbolism
In The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne uses Hester Prynne to provide an audience with ethical
lessons. Caught for committing adultery, the protagonist of the novel transforms her life through
dealing with her punishment. Using symbolism and evident themes, the author clarifies the meaning
of his work, which is to teach a moral lesson, making him a contemporary author.
In the beginning of The Scarlet Letter, Hester s society treats her like a convict for committing
adultery, as it is considered a sin. Due to this, people alienate Hester, which significantly magnifies her
shame and loneliness. By doing charitable works around the community, Hester attempts to atone and
repent for her sin of committing adultery. However, the people who benefit the most from Hester s
humanitarian works respond with ungratefulness and bitterness. During this ordeal, Hester

Nationality is the desire of a group of people to preserve or obtain common statehood and the ideology

Rawls Difference Principle and its Compatibility with Democratic Equality
Introduction
With a limited availability of wealth and resources, all societies are posed with a common dilemma:
how ought these goods be distributed among members of the community in a way that is just? In A
Theory of Justice, John Rawls, an influential political philosopher of the 20th century, attempts to
provide a solution to this dilemma by presenting a hypothetical situation, known as the Original
Position, in which multiple parties determine the principles that will constitute the basic structure of
the society they will live in. In order to ensure that the party members make their choices impartially

The other component of Rawls justification of inequalities is the difference principle. It holds that
inequalities in wealth and social status are permitted just in case that they benefit the least well off.
Thus, Injustice [...] is simply inequalities that are not to the benefit of all (Rawls, 1971). Rawls
suggests that the least well off can be defined as those who occupy the class of unskilled workers and
hold the least amount of wealth in society. He also suggests that inequalities be evaluated through an
index of primary goods . Primary goods are those that are essential for one to exercise his moral
powers, such as rights and liberties, power and opportunity, and health and intelligence (Quong,
2017). Thus, the index of primary goods is representative of one s expectations of having the
necessary primary goods in order to function as a citizen while exercising his moral powers.
Examples of permissible inequalities as according to the difference principle lie in idea of incentive.
For instance, Rawls argues that inequalities in income are just, because they provide an incentive to
work and contribute to the overall well being of the society. Thus, the skilled or talented workers of
the society would require more income in order to stay productive. Without the higher income as an
incentive, the talented workers would not be as productive, which in turn negatively impacts the least
well off, as there

Purim is celebrated on the 14th day of Adar which was the day the Jewish people celebrated their
survival of Haman s extermination. For the cities that were walled in the time of Joshua it is celebrated
on the 15th, because in the book of Esther a wall city (Shushan) the message of the deliverance of the
extermination did not reach until the day after. The Purim holiday is followed by a fast, the fast honors
Esther s three days of fasting in preparation to be summoned by the king and tell him Haman s plan.
The commandment of the holiday is to hear the reading of the Book of Esther. Pesach also known as
Passover in English is a common Jewish holiday the permits the eating of Chametz that has not
touched water in the last 18 minutes. Chametz are the five major grains which are wheat, rye, barley,
oats and spelt. The reason for this is because when the Jewish people left Egypt they did not have time
to allow their bread to rise which is symbolism for removing the puffiness or pride from our souls.
The holiday is so strict that you may not own Chametz or anything with the five grains, you may not
feed it to pets and or cattle, and derive benefit from it. People go as far ass ridding their house of
chametz several weeks before Pesach, cleaning stoves, scrubbing their fridge, and cleansing anything

Introduction to Forensic Investigations
Locard s Exchange Principle and the use of Fingerprints: Edmond Locard (1877 1966) was a French
scientist specialised in both medicine and law. Inspired by the work of Hans Gross, it was Edmond
that created the concept that all objects of any material should leave traces of itself upon whatever it
touches, even if it is the minutest amount, simply put as Every Contact leaves a trace, Locard (1923).
This is commonly known as Locard s Exchange Principle. He believed that in circumstances such as a
crime, his principle could be used to find evidence of who and perhaps even how that crime was
committed by finding small materials, either physical or chemical at the scene of the crime that would
directly link back to the offender. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

objects uniquness. If a window is pryed open to gain entry to building, the screwdriver used to pry it
open will share different properties to every other. By studying the `striation` marks on a window, we
will clearly be able to see that there are a certain number of grooves that make the mark. By
comparing this to the screwdriver that was found in a suspects house, this could show that this was the
screwdriver was used in the offence. This could then be used as evidence in court to prosecute the said
suspect. Individualisation is pretty much based upon inductive reasoning; which is used a lot in
Forensic Investigations. By saying we have never seen two screwdrivers the same leads us to believe
that there are no two screwdrivers in the world. The same refers to the uniqueness of fingerprints, a
pair has never been found; but if a pair was ever to be found, this would mean the entire theory of
individualisation would fall apart. Referring back to Popper s work on falsifiability, is it possible to
prove that this theory can be wrong? In order to do so you would have to check every single item of
that class ever made in great detail. This is too much to check on and so there is no way we can prove
this test to be false. Paul Leland Kirk believed that individualisation was a key idea in Forensic
Investigations and stated that

The Year Of The Flood
In Margaret Atwood s novel The Year of the Flood, several saints are mentioned during Adam Ones
speech for Pollination Day namely Saint Suryamani Bhagat of India, among so many others, because
of her contributions to forest preservation (Atwood 276). Atwood may have chosen to incorporate
Bhagat, an environmental activist, as a saint in her novel considering that The Gardeners had devoted
this festival to the mysteries of plant reproduction, especially that of those wondrous trees, the

the work Bhagat has been undertaking to counter climate change(Atwood 276). Although more than

Planet Mercury Research Paper
Is Mercury A Volatile Planet? Introduction: In class, the lecture notes on the planet Mercury in section
11.1 The Terrestrial Planets is composed of a brief overview of the characteristics of the planet
compared to other planets in our solar system. I became curious about Mercury due to the fact that it is
the closest planet to the sun and decided to look further into the information that has been collected
about Mercury. Search Log: Based on what I knew from the first journey entry I wrote, I decided to
forgo using Google to find an article about Mercury. I went straight to the VCU Libraries website and
typed Mercury into the search bar. I refined the results that were displayed by selecting to view only

While MESSENGER was in orbit around Mercury, the Gamma ray spectrometer indicated a ratio
similar to Mars saying that Mercury is as volatile rich as the other terrestrial planets. In the present
study, newly obtained Gamma ray spectrometer data along with data from the X ray spectrometer on
MESSENGER is being used to re examine the volatile element inventory of Mercury. Elements were
directly measured by the MESSENGER instruments, which were used in calculations to make
estimates on the composition of the interior of the planet. Based on the Gamma ray spectrometer the
ratios measured from the surface implies that Mercury is volatile rich compared to some other
terrestrial planets. However, Mercury is the most reduced of the terrestrial planets and elements that
typically behave as lithophile elements may behave differently in an oxygen starved magmatic system
like Mercury. In conclusion, even with the data that has been collected, scientists cannot declare
Mercury to either volatile rich or

How Is Miss Emily Grierson A Dynamic Character
Upon reading William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily, one discovers several colorful characters,
including one Miss Emily Grierson of Jefferson, Mississippi. Readers uncover her quirks and specific
character traits as seen through the eyes of the townspeople who are highly interested in the goings on
in her life. Miss Emily Grierson is a round yet static protagonist who is lonely, unyielding to change,
and overcome by her unfortunate life circumstances, and as such she should not be considered a mad
woman as many readers might accuse her of being.
Miss Emily lived her life almost throughout on display before the town of Jefferson and ultimately
this resulted in her lack of socialization and human interaction. The fault in this matter lies with her
father, the respected mayor of Jefferson, who protected her and kept her under thumb, driving away
every suitor that came to call. People came to picture poor Miss Emily as a slender figure in white in
the background, her father a spraddled silhouette in the foreground, his back to her and clutching a
horsewhip, the two of them framed by the back flung front door (Faulkner 35). In this visualization,
her father clearly stood between her and the real world as a threatening and domineering figure. One
might believe that such a prominent figure would interact with the public on a daily basis in a positive
manner, but it appears that the Grierson status only encouraged the prying eyes of the townspeople to
impede on Miss Emily s

Assignment The focus of this paper is to determine whether exposure to the mass media increases the
likelihood of anorexic behavior. The meta analysis conducted by Dina conveys the idea that the body
types and images that are projected by the media encourage decreased body satisfaction in
adolescents. It is however, important to note that body dissatisfaction does not always lead to eating
disorders. It is important to mention that the body type which the author is discussing is that of an
under average weight female body and a hypermuscular body for men. Both generally unattainable
leading to the feelings of failure and further encouraging eating disorders. Although it is known that

Abstract From theoretical viewpoints, analyses of consumer motivation have been applied to the
shopping and the tourism industry for decades. However, little research has been done on night
markets or street vendors. According to the Statistical Information of Taiwan Tourism Bureau (2002

There are three purposes for setting up Tourist Night Markets: 1. To stimulate local business trade and
to increase regional economic benefits. 2. To provide an evening venue for the local people to shop. 3.
To convert some illegal vendors into legal ones. In addition, from a shopper s perspective, it is
expected that the establishment of Tourist Night Markets can reduce some unpleasant shopping
experiences often encountered when visiting the regular hawkers. From the traditional perspective of
marketing s 4P s (McCarthy, 1960), the characteristics of Tourist Night Markets are as follows: (1)
Product the variety of goods and services is wide in Tourist Night Markets. According to the Taipei
City Government s Market Committee (Wang, 2000, as cited in Yang, 2000), over 60% of the vendors
sell food and drinks. The majority of others sell groceries and garments. (2) Price the pricing of each
vendor in the Tourist Night Market is reasonable and allows shoppers to bargain no matter whether
with stationary vendors or stores. (3) Place like the formal traders, vendors in Tourist Night Market
can be found in a fixed location where shoppers must go to buy. Thus, contrary to Arellano s research
(1994), high mobility is not a primary characteristic of Tourist Night Markets vendors. All the vendors
or operators have a fixed space to conduct their business. Location wise, it is mandatory that a huge

The Importance Of Homosexuality On Gender And Sexuality
It seems the first point of any homophobic person s argument on why being gay is wrong is that it says
so in the bible . The reason homophobic people try to make this point is because the Bible is a
religious staple. Religion is so influential, it dictates the way people think and how they act. Whether
or not you believe/practice a religion, the effects it has had on societal norms are undeniable. This
essay argues that the Bible effects the constructions of societal norms about gender and sexuality. I
support this argument by explaining the importance of the Bible and examining the text found in it.
What is the Bible? The Bible is a collection of texts that certain religions consider to be a record of the
relationship between God and humans. The reason the Bible is important is because of how powerful
it can be. One example that proves the power of the Bible is the fact that it is the basis of Christianity
and Judaism. Meaning that it is the basis for the most followed religion in the world, Christianity (Pew
Research Center). Another example that proves how powerful the Bible is that some people actually
believe it is the direct word from God. Anything that is thought to be a direct quote from God is going
to hold a lot of power in the world. What I have always been taught growing up in a strong Catholic
family is that the Bible is the instructions to be a good person. I was never taught to take the Bible
scriptures literally and believe every single minuet detail.

Descartes Sixth Meditation Summary
Rene Descartes Sixth Meditation
Of the Existence of Material Things, and the Real Distinction between Mind and Body
Lesley McLaughlin
April 16th, 2018
Professor Ian Gerrie
GPHL 110 GNC
In Descartes Sixth Meditation he examines the objective reality of material things and the difference
between the mind and the body. Descartes approaches the mind and body as two entirely distinct
entities that function in close relation, yet independent of one another. In this Descartes refers to
himself as a thinking thing (Moriarty, 2008, p. 55) in which he is referring to a thing that has doubts,
hopes, will, wants, beliefs, dreams, and all other mental abilities. Descartes argues that the body, as a
whole, works closely with the mind; however, it is something that is only an extended thing and not a
thinking thing... and [he] can exist without it. (Moriarty, 2008, p. 55) Descartes suggests that he, or his
mind, is an essance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He then explains further that he sees the mind as a thinking thing and not an extended thing (Moriarty,
2008, p. 55) and the body as an extended and not a thinking thing (Moriarty, 2008, p. 55) Thus, the
mind is an entity that is entirely separate from the body; they are two exclusive things. Specifically,
the mind can live without the body.
Imagination and sensation are methods of thought, of which Descartes can manage without and so,
they are not essential to him. He also determines that neither of these methods could exist without a
substance to retain them; imagination and sensation could not exist without the mind or the body.
Descartes explains his confused feelings surrounding hunger, pain, etc. stating that as a result of their
union they conflict, causing a sense of confusion within the

Environmental Externalities In The Canadian Government
The Canadian government ought to take a tougher stand against business enterprises who are causing
negative environmental externalities by levying taxes, intensifying standards and introducing new
environmental programs. Canada wants to be a world leader in climate change and now is the time to
act and set the standard. Revenues generated through taxes will be rolled into environmental programs
and businesses will be forced to innovate to find new ways of doing business.
Canada has deployed policy options in the past to deal with issues like global warming, hazardous
waste, and air and water pollution, albeit they were after the issues became critical. The government
needs to take a stronger role and be a world leader in climate change, ... Show more content on

It forces the business to make the decision on how to proceed, and they are faced with consequences if
they continue. 2
Canada currently makes limited use of environmental taxes, in an OECD ranking of environmentally
related taxes as a share of GDP, Canada ranks between Rwanda and Tunisia, and India. The OECD
average was 1.56%, Canada came in at 1.15%, the leading country was Denmark at 4.11%. This
shows that Canada has fallen behind others in environmental taxation and that changes need to be
made.
However, taxes alone will not be able to solve the issue by itself, a multi pronged approach is
necessary. Taxes are one piece of the puzzle; quality and quantity standards combined with the taxes
will force the business to make tough decisions and force them to innovate and consider clean
technology options. Cap and trade systems may also be used with taxes, allowing business to emit a
certain amount and make market decisions to purchase and emit more; and taxing them on certain
levels. 1
The next negative externality to address is the location of hazardous waste sites and the options to deal
with them. The location of hazardous facilities is a hot button issue for many communities; evidence
has emerged that communities close to toxic waste landfills suffered serious negative consequences. 1
The problem with these facilities is they have to go somewhere, so they key is to locate them where
there will have the least impact on people

Human susceptibility to snake venom is generally estimated from the LD50 for rodents. The next factor in assessing the danger of a partiticular species of snake is the dose of venom that is actually introduced into the tissues. Some types of snakes have an extremely efficient mechanism of injection venom with a sing strike; others have poor success in doing so. The amount of venom produced by snakes that is available for secretion with a bite also varies between kinds of snakes, and between individuals (usually by size) of any one species (reptipage 1). Symptoms of venomous snakebites. The symptoms vary not only with the type of venom injected, but also with the amount. A snake may release no venom at all, or it may release as much as 75% of the total amount stored in its venom glands. Often when a snake bites in self defense, it injects less venom than when it attacks its prey. The physical condition of the victim and the location of the bite also affect the severity of the symptoms. A bite into a muscle is less dangerous than a bite into a blood vessel, for example, because toxins in the blood are quickly circulated through the body. General symptoms of snakebite include localized pain and swelling soon after the bite occurs, followed by nausea, tingling or numbness, weakness, and shortness of breath. If victims do not receive treatment within a few hours, they may suffer convulsions, fall into a coma, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. I Stand Here Ironing, an Analysis Essay I Stand Here Ironing by Tillie Olsen is a short story that talks about a handicapped child. Emily had to struggle a whole lot on her short life, but at the end she proved to be a very strong child. Tillie Olsen s characterization of Emily shows a strong female protagonist who overcomes numerous odds: loneliness, humbleness, vulnerability, and her disability. The story is based on a child named Emily that has a physical disability. Emily lived in a family of five children. She always had a reason why we should stay home (Olsen 601). Emily is lonely. When she was a toddler, she was left in a day care so Emily s mom could bring income to the house. Emily is a child that, as many others, grew up mostly on day care. Emily was ... Emily was a child that did not have any envy towards her sister Susan, because she was so much different in many aspects. The difference of the age did not interfere. Emily was always willing to play and teach her sister new things. They shared so many things and enjoyed the company of each other. Their mother sometimes would keep Emily home so they could spend time together. Emily would take advantage of her illnesses, so her mom would keep her home. Emily is very vulnerable mostly because of her appearance. She tormented herself enough about not looking like the others, there was enough of the unsureness, the having to be conscious of works before you speak, the constant caring what are they thinking of me? Without having it all magnified by the merciless physical drivers (Olson 603). Emily is a skinny, fragile, and sick child, and in the outer world, other kids without values would point her out. Emily is always insecure about what she says, or does in front of others. The insecurity of not being able to be her own person is always on her mind. Emily spends time with her mother at night time. • 5. City Of Detroit Case Study On Thursday, July 28, 2013, Detroit, Michigan became the largest city in America ever to file for bankruptcy. Established in 1701, Detroit was founded by the French explorer Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac and a party of settlers. None of these men had any idea that Detroit would evolve into the thriving hub of the car industry in centuries to come. In 1756, the smallpox virus and a famine threatened the many settlers in Detroit, but did not decimate the population enough to cause the city to collapse. In 1802, Detroit officially became a chartered city. • 6. Stylistic Elements In The Wizard Of Oz A film depends on the involvement and receptiveness of the audience. It is the minds of the audience that determine the enjoyment of watching a film. As human beings, we are known to be a species that are fundamentally seeking patterns. We attempt to create logical connections between different events or elements and invest our own meaning in neutral objects and occurrences. We can create structure and form, as well as interpret it. As such, we all possess a remarkable talent for both telling and understanding films. It is in this sense that watching a film is an activity where the mind is actively engaged with the work, making connections and associations in an effort to bring together separate elements. In this paper, I will be discussing how various stylistic elements such as mise en scene, cinematography, editing and sound in The Wizard of Oz and Psycho enable the audience to better enjoy watching both films which support Smith s claim a richer kind of pleasure . The Wizard of Oz has revealed to be an exceptionally well thought out film when analysed. The film has made use of stylistic elements such as colour, light, sound and mise en scene which coincide with the various twists and turns of the plot as Dorothy moves from Kansas, to Oz, and back again. In The Wizard of Oz, the director, Victor Fleming, has employed the use of different unique editing techniques despite being an early film. It is obvious that the audience is able to notice the absence of colour in the beginning and ending of the film. The audience identifies the mood and overall feeling for Dorothy when she is in her family farm in Kansas. The lack of colour shows the audience how boring and normal her life is in Kansas ... The Speaker s of Remembrance and Wuthering Heights react differently for the same struggle. The tone of the last stanza of Remembrance is similar to the tone of the last chapter of Wuthering Heights. Both works have a sullen mood and each speaker wants to move on from their memories. The way Emily Bronte wrote the last stanza mirrors the feelings of Heathcliff in the last chapter of Wuthering Heights. Both works seem to be tied together, as Remembrance reflects the feelings of Heathcliff, a main character of the novel. While the speaker in Remembrance chooses to deal with her pain, Heathcliff takes the opposite path. Emily Bronte wrote both characters as feeling lost and upset in their life, however, the outcome for each is quite different. Though the speaker of Remembrance feels upset and empty, she does not let that overtake her and continues living. The central theme of the book is to reflect the perspective of a black man in an era that called for equality struggles between races in the United States while battling views on racism and his rise and fall within the Nation of Islam religion. The author s purpose for writing the book was for the reader to gain knowledge of Malcolm X as an individual and not as a phenomenon. He wanted to deliver truths that spanned his brief lifetime. Alex Haley s qualifications to write the book were simply that he was a black man in America during the same time span as Malcolm X and his earlier work had focused on the struggles of African Americans in the United States in particular. This revelation prompted a holy journey that yet again changed Malcolm s thought process that was evident at the end of his life. Critique This autobiography of Malcolm X was spellbinding. The fascinating persona of this man was phenomenal. As he describes his education in one part of the book, Gentlemen, I finished the eighth grade in Mason, Michigan. My high school was the black ghetto of Roxbury, Massachusetts. My college was in the streets of Harlem, and my master s was taken in prison is just amazing. • 9. Me And Earl And The Dying Girl Analysis Review of Me and Earl and the Dying Girl Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (hereafter Me and Earl) was the big hit coming out of this year s Sundance Film Festival, winning both the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize. Thus, Me and Earl duplicated the feat that Whiplash managed last year. Since I liked Whiplash, I wanted to see Me and Earl. Since Me and Earl features characters with which I should easily identify, I wanted to see it even more. It did not disappoint my high expectations. Me and Earl and the Dying Girl tells the story of Greg (Thomas Mann), a loner in high school, and his doomed friendship with Rachel (Olivia Cooke). The awkward Greg only wants to survive high school, and to accomplish this goal he ingratiates himself with every student in the school. He has no friends, only acquaintances, but he makes no enemies, either. Greg does, however, hang out with his co worker Earl (RJ Cyler), who he has known since kindergarten and makes parodies of classic films with. It should also be noted that another highlight of this movie is its infectious love of other movies). The funniest bit, however, comes from a touch by the director Alfonso Gomez Rejon. The main goal was to increase the accuracy of the text dependent speaker recognition performance. Now a days there is a lot of talk going about creating hardware modules which can take care of recognition of speech or face or other patterns as iris recognition and the list goes on. The primary reason behind this is the fact that we all want to automate things like speech recognition, which reduces manpower in many areas and also because of the vastness of data available these days, it is humanely impossible to recognize patterns within these data‟s. • 16. Examples Of Pathos In Medea Euripides s Medea is a Greek tragedy set in fifth century BC Athens that depicts the plotting of Medea s revenge, who herself was wronged and betrayed by her husband. Like other tragedies, we can see that emotions are at the heart of Medea. These emotions are resonant and altruistic such that we feel for other people who have no direct connection with us nor belong in the same world. This ability to evoke the outgoing emotion in the audience opposed to an introverted self absorption view is characteristic of Greek tragedy. Similarly, Euripides handles the complexity of his characters, supplying an element of pathos to his audience in the process. From the cries of Medea lamenting on the injustice suffered by her, to her dilemma over the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An essential point to note is that like Medea, Jason cannot be labeled as a typical villain with only evil thoughts. It is revealed that his desire to marry the princess was nothing about the princess . Instead, it was to protect (Medea) and to father some royal sons , ultimately for security . Just like Medea, Jason is too a victim of the forces of human nature and society shown through his desire to climb the social ladder through marriage. He was not a heartless villain but instead, he still cares for Medea and his sons. Hence, this makes the final scene when Jason arrives after his sons infanticide even more striking in its pathos. It is interesting to note at this point, Euripides employs deus ex machina to save Medea from the consequence of her crimes through the escape in Helios s dragon chariot. Jason is hence left on stage alone and appears to be completely defeated emphasised by the image of a triumphant Medea in the chariot. He is left childless and his bride gone along with his dreams of power. Euripides hence effectively builds up to this scene through the application of the deus ex machina and the handling of Jason s character. Ultimately, this evokes strong pathos as his lone figure left on stage leaves a lasting impression on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In A Theory of Justice, John Rawls, an influential political philosopher of the 20th century, attempts to provide a solution to this dilemma by presenting a hypothetical situation, known as the Original Position, in which multiple parties determine the principles that will constitute the basic structure of the society they will live in. The other component of Rawls justification of inequalities is the difference principle. It holds that inequalities in wealth and social status are permitted just in case that they benefit the least well off. Thus, Injustice [...] is simply inequalities that are not to the benefit of all (Rawls, 1971). Rawls suggests that the least well off can be defined as those who occupy the class of unskilled workers and hold the least amount of wealth in society. He also suggests that inequalities be evaluated through an index of primary goods . Primary goods are those that are essential for one to exercise his moral powers, such as rights and liberties, power and opportunity, and health and intelligence (Quong, 2017). Thus, the index of primary goods is representative of one s expectations of having the necessary primary goods in order to function as a citizen while exercising his moral powers. Examples of permissible inequalities as according to the difference principle lie in idea of incentive. For instance, Rawls argues that inequalities in income are just, because they provide an incentive to work and contribute to the overall well being of the society. Thus, the skilled or talented workers of the society would require more income in order to stay productive. Without the higher income as an incentive, the talented workers would not be as productive, which in turn negatively impacts the least well off, as there ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Purim is celebrated on the 14th day of Adar which was the day the Jewish people celebrated their survival of Haman s extermination. For the cities that were walled in the time of Joshua it is celebrated on the 15th, because in the book of Esther a wall city (Shushan) the message of the deliverance of the extermination did not reach until the day after. The Purim holiday is followed by a fast, the fast honors Esther s three days of fasting in preparation to be summoned by the king and tell him Haman s plan. The commandment of the holiday is to hear the reading of the Book of Esther. Pesach also known as Passover in English is a common Jewish holiday the permits the eating of Chametz that has not touched water in the last 18 minutes. Chametz are the five major grains which are wheat, rye, barley, oats and spelt. The reason for this is because when the Jewish people left Egypt they did not have time to allow their bread to rise which is symbolism for removing the puffiness or pride from our souls. The holiday is so strict that you may not own Chametz or anything with the five grains, you may not feed it to pets and or cattle, and derive benefit from it. People go as far ass ridding their house of chametz several weeks before Pesach, cleaning stoves, scrubbing their fridge, and cleansing anything that has come in contact with food. • 38. Introduction to Forensic Investigations Locard s Exchange Principle and the use of Fingerprints: Edmond Locard (1877 1966) was a French scientist specialised in both medicine and law. Inspired by the work of Hans Gross, it was Edmond that created the concept that all objects of any material should leave traces of itself upon whatever it touches, even if it is the minutest amount, simply put as Every Contact leaves a trace, Locard (1923). This is commonly known as Locard s Exchange Principle. He believed that in circumstances such as a crime, his principle could be used to find evidence of who and perhaps even how that crime was committed by finding small materials, either physical or chemical at the scene of the crime that would directly link back to the offender. ... If a window is pryed open to gain entry to building, the screwdriver used to pry it open will share different properties to every other. By studying the `striation` marks on a window, we will clearly be able to see that there are a certain number of grooves that make the mark. By comparing this to the screwdriver that was found in a suspects house, this could show that this was the screwdriver was used in the offence. This could then be used as evidence in court to prosecute the said suspect. Individualisation is pretty much based upon inductive reasoning; which is used a lot in Forensic Investigations. By saying we have never seen two screwdrivers the same leads us to believe that there are no two screwdrivers in the world. The same refers to the uniqueness of fingerprints, a pair has never been found; but if a pair was ever to be found, this would mean the entire theory of individualisation would fall apart. Referring back to Popper s work on falsifiability, is it possible to prove that this theory can be wrong? In order to do so you would have to check every single item of that class ever made in great detail. This is too much to check on and so there is no way we can prove this test to be false. The Year Of The Flood In Margaret Atwood s novel The Year of the Flood, several saints are mentioned during Adam Ones speech for Pollination Day namely Saint Suryamani Bhagat of India, among so many others, because of her contributions to forest preservation (Atwood 276). Atwood may have chosen to incorporate Bhagat, an environmental activist, as a saint in her novel considering that The Gardeners had devoted this festival to the mysteries of plant reproduction, especially that of those wondrous trees, the angiosperms, with special emphasis upon the Drupes and the Pomaceous Fruits which matches with the work Bhagat has been undertaking to counter climate change(Atwood 276). Although more than half of Suryamani Bhagat s life is still before her, extrapolating from her current and past deeds it can be anticipated that she will continue to stand as a servant of God due to her immense beliefs and rigorous efforts to combat deforestation for the welfare of the community; live a life of heroic virtue as she fights to preserve her culture and property rights of her people; remain praised and idolized in her community for her accomplishments and facilitate yet more miracles such as obligating the government to accept, honor and fulfil the demands of her tribe as well as facilitating the astonishing increment in female literacy in the area; for those reasons, in addition to the fact that Bhagat also mirrors the characteristics of the gardeners and shares a similar background story with Toby, Margret ... How Is Miss Emily Grierson A Dynamic Character Upon reading William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily, one discovers several colorful characters, including one Miss Emily Grierson of Jefferson, Mississippi. Readers uncover her quirks and specific character traits as seen through the eyes of the townspeople who are highly interested in the goings on in her life. Miss Emily Grierson is a round yet static protagonist who is lonely, unyielding to change, and overcome by her unfortunate life circumstances, and as such she should not be considered a mad woman as many readers might accuse her of being. Miss Emily lived her life almost throughout on display before the town of Jefferson and ultimately this resulted in her lack of socialization and human interaction. The fault in this matter lies with her father, the respected mayor of Jefferson, who protected her and kept her under thumb, driving away every suitor that came to call. People came to picture poor Miss Emily as a slender figure in white in the background, her father a spraddled silhouette in the foreground, his back to her and clutching a horsewhip, the two of them framed by the back flung front door (Faulkner 35). In this visualization, her father clearly stood between her and the real world as a threatening and domineering figure. One might believe that such a prominent figure would interact with the public on a daily basis in a positive manner, but it appears that the Grierson status only encouraged the prying eyes of the townspeople to impede on Miss Emily s ... • 48. The Importance Of Homosexuality On Gender And Sexuality It seems the first point of any homophobic person s argument on why being gay is wrong is that it says so in the bible . The reason homophobic people try to make this point is because the Bible is a religious staple. Religion is so influential, it dictates the way people think and how they act. Whether or not you believe/practice a religion, the effects it has had on societal norms are undeniable. This essay argues that the Bible effects the constructions of societal norms about gender and sexuality. I support this argument by explaining the importance of the Bible and examining the text found in it. What is the Bible? The Bible is a collection of texts that certain religions consider to be a record of the relationship between God and humans. The reason the Bible is important is because of how powerful it can be. One example that proves the power of the Bible is the fact that it is the basis of Christianity and Judaism. Meaning that it is the basis for the most followed religion in the world, Christianity (Pew Research Center). Another example that proves how powerful the Bible is that some people actually believe it is the direct word from God. Anything that is thought to be a direct quote from God is going to hold a lot of power in the world. What I have always been taught growing up in a strong Catholic family is that the Bible is the instructions to be a good person. I was never taught to take the Bible scriptures literally and believe every single minuet detail. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Descartes Sixth Meditation Summary Rene Descartes Sixth Meditation Of the Existence of Material Things, and the Real Distinction between Mind and Body Lesley McLaughlin April 16th, 2018 Professor Ian Gerrie GPHL 110 GNC In Descartes Sixth Meditation he examines the objective reality of material things and the difference between the mind and the body. Descartes approaches the mind and body as two entirely distinct entities that function in close relation, yet independent of one another. In this Descartes refers to himself as a thinking thing (Moriarty, 2008, p. 55) in which he is referring to a thing that has doubts, hopes, will, wants, beliefs, dreams, and all other mental abilities. Descartes argues that the body, as a whole, works closely with the mind; however, it is something that is only an extended thing and not a thinking thing... and [he] can exist without it. Specifically, the mind can live without the body. Imagination and sensation are methods of thought, of which Descartes can manage without and so, they are not essential to him. He also determines that neither of these methods could exist without a substance to retain them; imagination and sensation could not exist without the mind or the body. It forces the business to make the decision on how to proceed, and they are faced with consequences if they continue. 2 Canada currently makes limited use of environmental taxes, in an OECD ranking of environmentally related taxes as a share of GDP, Canada ranks between Rwanda and Tunisia, and India. The OECD average was 1.56%, Canada came in at 1.15%, the leading country was Denmark at 4.11%. This shows that Canada has fallen behind others in environmental taxation and that changes need to be made. However, taxes alone will not be able to solve the issue by itself, a multi pronged approach is necessary. Taxes are one piece of the puzzle; quality and quantity standards combined with the taxes will force the business to make tough decisions and force them to innovate and consider clean technology options. Cap and trade systems may also be used with taxes, allowing business to emit a certain amount and make market decisions to purchase and emit more; and taxing them on certain levels. 1 The next negative externality to address is the location of hazardous waste sites and the options to deal with them.
