The Structure Of Dracula
COUNT DRACULA FREEDOM FROM FANDOM is a light hearted fantasy tale that brings to life
the iconic characters from many novels and films about Dracula and the other monsters.
There s no doubt that the strength of this script is the ensemble cast of colorful and offbeat characters,
especially Dracula, Frankenstein, and Wolfie. Together they feel like iconic, authentic friends and it s
fun to watch them interact with each other.
However, with that said, the overall script would benefit from more development. One of the concerns
about the script is the structure, including the goal, the pace, and the tension. The overall plot doesn t
feel goal focused.
First, the opening and the first act set up the ordinary world of Dracula and his friends. ... Show more

It appears he also struggles with finding the beast inside him, but it s can be showcased a bit more.
John Harker is believable as the man who thinks he s in charge, only to realize Mina is controlling
him. It s actually fun to watch Mina dismiss John and constantly push him away. There s a fun payoff
of this around page 103.
There are a lot of identified demons or monsters. Mina appears to be the main one, but one doesn t
learn about this until late. Enhance her role as a worthy foe in the final hero vs. foe battle.
It s also interesting that Lucifer isn t a very strong character in the story. His introduce feels too mild.
One also expected him to be more prominent in the climax battle.
The dialogue is fun and there are iconic payoffs, It s alive! The dialogue is consistent to each
character. Their voices are distinctive and nicely reflect their motivations and values. Dialogue also
delivers insight and a message about the idea that if everyone was the same (monsters), it would be no
fun.
However, the dialogue does tend to slow the pace down, especially in the first act. There s repetitive
dialogue about Dracula leaving and

Examples Of Marxism In Fight Club
The novel Fight Club is a complicated violent novel. It contains a lot of meaningful things about
psychological aspects. According to the article Is Tyler Durden a Marxist? , Goodman states that this
novels is a character study in schizophrenia. It s true because the main character of the novel is a multi
personality person, the nameless narrator. When he sleeps, he is Tyler Durden, a total different
personality man, a Marxist s representative. When he wakes up, he is him. Ideologies of Marxism are
expressed by Tyler s words such as religion, class struggles, and consumerism. Along with Marxism,
the psychoanalytic criticisms of Sigmund Freud such as displacement, dream and the meaning of
death are also expressed in this novel. Most responses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He represents for the narrator s dream of freedom. Today, the modern world is characterized by three
big C : Consumerism, Corporatism, and Capitalism. These three C mechanize people, and push them
into a chain of exploitation unconsciously. The workers received money from the bosses for their
labor. Then, the workers use for shopping. Quickly, the money is back to the bosses. Despite of being
surrounded by innumerable valuable things, the workers lived meaningless lives: an endless loop,
unable to escape. The narrator realizes it, and finds bored with his life. He wants to escape the endless
loop, he wants to be freedom, but no hope. The narrator just only has that in his dream. In the novel,
Tyler works for himself; he invents Fight Club, and then Project Mayhem in order to create classless
society (Tyson, 51). Therefore, we can conclude that Tyler represents for the narrator s dream. It also
explains why Tyler just only appears when the narrator is asleep. Dream and Dream Symbols are
expressed very clearly through the multi personality person, the

Persuasive Essay On Pool Fencing
Now that you know you need to replace your pool fencing, you are presented with a range of different
materials to consider. Glass, timber, and steel are all relevant choices for your new pool fence, but
many parents are concerned whether glass is the best choice to protect their children. Here are three
reasons to help convince you that switching over to glass pool fencing is a lot safer that you may have
previously thought. Glass Fencing Is Reliable Glass that is used to make pool fencing may give the
appearance of being fragile, and you may have concerns that the weight of a child or pet falling
against the glass would be enough to make it crack and break. This is not the case. When speaking to

Ethical Dilemma of Hiv Disclosure in Intimate Relationships
HIV Prevention with Positives in Thailand: Ethical Dilemma of HIV Status Disclosure in intimate
relationship.
Abstract
Every year, there are about ten thousand new HIV infection cases in Thailand. The majority of new
HIV transmissions in Thailand have changed from commercial sex to intimate relationships while HIV
prevention generally focuses on self protection and universal precaution. In 2003, Center for Disease
Control and Prevention recommend to integrate HIV preventive measure into routine HIV care.
According to a survey of People Living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA) in Thailand, 45% of HIV
infections came from transmission between spouses and 10% believed that their partners knew their
HIV status before having a relationship. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of these preventive measures aim at self protection of the general HIV negative population and
vulnerable groups. HIV positive people have not been included in prevention strategies and messages.
Fear of further stigmatization exclude concept of responsibility for health of sexual partner as an
alternative strategy and prevention program. (Bayer 1996) However research has shown that after
most PLWHA learn their HIV status they reduce their unprotected sex, though some still engage in
unsafe sex.(Janssen, Holtgrave, Valdiserri et al. 2001; Marks, Richardson, Crepaz et al. 2002) In 2003,
the Centers for Disease Control recommended the Prevention with Positives strategy to promote
sexual health among PLWHA attending HIV/AIDS clinic and to help reduce onward HIV
transmission.(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 2003) Positive prevention was
recommended by UNAIDS (the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS); it has been
implemented in industrialized countries, and should be a priority in high prevalence regions.(Bunnell
R, J. and K 2006)
Advance in medical treatment, especially antiretroviral treatment have improved quality of life and
prolongs survival. Antiretroviral treatment also reduces the probability of HIV transmission by
reducing virus to undetectable level. (Vernazzaa, Hirschelb, Bernasconic et al. 2008)

Phone Addiction Essay
Phone Addiction for Teens and Their Parents In the article Half of Teens Think They re Addicted to
Their Smartphones by Kelly Wallace the general argument is that phones are addictive not just to
teens, but to everyone. Wallace starts the article by talking about how her children, 8 and 10 years old,
are spending more and more time on iPads while on spring break. Due to this early iPad addiction she
worries about her children for when they are older and have their own phones. It then goes to a few
different polls that state that everybody, not just teens, are becoming addicted to their cell phones.

Janis Elspas, founder of Mommy Blog Expert, says that she, believes the rules and boundaries parents
set for their children when they get their first cell phone or smartphone might be helpful in heading off
any addictions later on. (9) Elspas children, now 18 and 20, didn t own their first cell phones until they
were at least a junior in high school with money to pay for part of their phone bills. Elspas also has a
no phone rule at table which goes to her and her husband, their children and any friends her kids bring
over. She believes, Such a rule can prove to kids, firsthand, that they can survive without having to see
or use their smartphone constantly (12) While phone addiction is still running rampant the Common
Sense Media poll found that more than a third, 37%, of teens very often or at least occasionally try to
cut down on the time they spend on their electronics. Many parents complain about how this
generation overuses and can t seem to put their phones down, but many parents will admit they don t
always have the easiest time unplugging themselves. Twenty seven percent of parents feel that they
are addicted to their phones as well and 28% of teens believe they are as well. Both teens and parents
admit to checking their at least hourly with parents at 69% and teens at 78%. About half of parents
admitted to feeling the need to immediately

Drowning Anna Mayfield Summary
I read the book Drowning Anna by Sue Mayfield this past week. I have to say, it s one of the best
books I ve ever read. The book has a really cool format. It constantly switches from the past, to the
present, and through journal entries made by Anna Goldsmith, a 16 year old girl who takes a drug
overdose. Her mom reads her journal while sitting next to her in her hospital bed, waiting for her to
come out of the coma she s currently in. There are a couple reasons Anna tried to kill herself, but
mainly one: Hayley Parkin. When Anna first moved to the new school, her and Hayley were best
friends. They were inseparable. Hayley s family was rich so every holiday they flew to some beach or
some private island and invited Anna half the time. They sat by ... Show more content on

As soon as Melanie heard what Anna had done, she felt terrible, they had just had a fight the day
before and was supposed to be shopping today, and having a sleepover. Anna and Tom rode the bus
together to the hospital. Anna s dad was a doctor at the hospital, so the whole family gathered in Anna
s room, and Melanie ran to Hayley s house to give her the letter. For the first time in forever, Melanie
almost felt bad for Hayley. Hayley read the letter thinking that she didn t mean to make Anna kill
herself, she meant for it to be one huge joke. Melanie left and ran back to the hospital. Back at the
hospital Anna went into V Fib, which is when your heart basically has a seizure starts shaking
uncontrollably, and doing nothing but shaking. They had to use defibrillators. At the end of the book,
the dad tells the family Anna is going to be all right. And that s the end of the book. I loved this book,

American Apparel Industry
Many American businesses, companies and retailers continue to keep manufacturing of products
overseas, because they can employ less expensive labor with fewer regulations to comply with. In the
end the retailer can sell their products manufactured overseas to the consumer in America at a lower
price. Such as furniture, natural resources are more accessible overseas and this is an advantage for the
furniture retail business. When the U.S. and other nations allowed China to join the World Trade
Organization in 2001 over 2.7 million jobs were sent overseas. This was a benefit for the overseas
market and beneficial to their economy. The cost of complying with the regulations in the U.S. and

to bring jobs home they must make changes to the current system in place, one way is to end the tax

speaking consumers to speak directly with an English speaking customer service department that we
can understand. US manufacturers provide US customer service. There is no substitution then to speak
to a customer service representative that understands you. In china wages and benefits are rising by
approximately 15% to 20% per year at the average Chinese factory and that will slash China s labor
cost advantage. International shipping costs are rising and is now affecting the costs of the
manufacturing process. In 2014, it was the first net gain of US manufacturing jobs in at least 20 years
with 10,000 jobs added that year. The president has called on congress to end the tax breaks for
companies that ship jobs overseas with the, Bring Jobs Home Act, it will give relief to companies that

Essay On Wolf Of Wall Street Based On The Male Gaze
How are women objectified in The Wolf of Wall Street based on the Male Gaze ?
In this essay, I am going to be analysing how women are objectified in the 2013 Hollywood film, The
Wolf of Wall Street (directed by Martin Scorsese). I will be analysing how women are objectified
using a theory produced by feminist film critic Laura Mulvey. This theorist is a British professor of
film and media studies at Birkbeck in London. The theory of male gaze refers to the way visual arts;
such as film, TV and advertising are structured around a masculine audience and the way in which
women are put into situations where they are intended to be viewed in a masculine way, such as being
objects of desire and sex. The Wolf of Wall Street is a strong example of female ... Show more content

Prostitution could also be classed as self objectification as these women are not being forced to dress
sexually or work in the sex industry but in fact choose to do, sexually objectifying their selves. In a
journal article called Body Objectification, MTV, and Psychological Outcomes Among Female
Adolescents written by Shelly Grabe and Janet Shibley Hyde, the following quote is found;
Objectification theory posits that the consequences of sexual objectification involve the process of self
objectification. (Grabe and Hyde, 2009). An example of non sexual self objectification in this film
takes place in the office. Belfort and the remaining males of the office offer the female sales assistant
$10,000 to shave her hair off in front of everyone. This could be seen as low self objectification but to
make the matter worse, the female sales assistant agrees to use the $10,000 for breast implants, further
adding to the male gaze by objectifying herself, to further sexually objectify herself by making herself
more appealing to males by having larger

Analysis Of Rules Of Attraction By Stephanie Elkeles
I read the book Rules of Attraction By: Simone Elkeles. In the book Rules of Attraction Alex s brother
Carlos moves to Colorado. He wants to live on the edge and live reckless not live the way Alex is
living his life. Carlos then ends up in a Mexican gang that isn t easy to get out of and they try to set
him up as a drug lord. Alex has to make arrangements for Carlos to stay with his professor so he doesn
t get caught and end up in jail, while Carlos is staying with his professor he falls in love with the
professor s daughter Kiara. Kiara and Carlos are kept apart by the rules of attraction . Carlos s danger

connecting, and predicting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carlos is someone worth evaluating because one, he is someone who is reckless. Carlos is considered
reckless in the book because of a few reasons. One reason is that Carlos said in the book that I want to
live life on my own terms(Elkeles 1) , so he is saying he doesn t wanna follow any rules and he wants
to do things on his own terms. The second reason he is viewed as reckless is because the first thing he
does when he moves to Colorado is join a Mexican gang that tries to make him into a drug lord. While
Carlos is considered reckless or tough, he is also soft hearted, or has a soft side. A few explanations
for Carlos s soft side is first off when he goes to live with his professor he falls in love with his
daughter like a day or two after he moved in. Another reason for Carlos s softer side is that when he
does fall in love with Kiara he falls in love with her really fast and really loves

Recruitment and Retention
The topic I chose to research and discuss is the topic of recruiting and retaining the best employees. I
chose this subject because I felt it was important for an employer trying to compete in this very
competitive business environment, no matter what the business is, to be able not only hire the best and
most qualified employees but retain them and keep them motivated. The ability to distinguish the
difference between high performing employees and lower performing employees can be detrimental to
a company s success or failure. In retrospect, this goes back to recruiting and retaining the best
employees while avoiding and being able to let go of those of a weaker caliber. Before an organization
can thrive in recruitment and retention, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jackson, Schuler, amp; Werner explain, Retention includes all of an employer s activities to encourage
qualified and productive employees to continue working for the organization (Jackson et al., p.188).
This comes down to that particular organization s willingness to motivate and make those employees
who are high performing and productive satisfied enough to continue to work there at that same level
if not higher level. Improvements in productivity, reduction in labor costs, and a competitive edge are
all the things that can be attributed with a successful recruiting and retention program. This in turn
makes your organization more alluring to those on the outside looking in.
Now that the definition of recruitment is clear it time to explore the different strategies that are used in
the recruitment process. Kevin Ryan, successful CEO of Guilt Goupe, states, Recruiting is so
important that we intentionally overinvest in it (Ryan, 2012, p.45). This statement shows how
important recruitment is. Being a recent college graduate that landed a job fresh out of college within
my field and now seeking work, I can say first hand that the recruitment process is not done in one
certain way, but in a variety of ways. One of the most common ways to get recruited is by referral.
Referrals take place when current workers of an organization inform their associates about job
openings and recommend they apply. In certain instances, when there is an extreme

The Physics Of Quantum Mechanics
Quantum Mechanics is a branch of physics that explains the really small things. These really small
things, such as electrons are studied in an attempt to find out how they behave under certain
conditions. Findings from the studies are then used to explain how the small particles make up and
relate to the bigger parts of the world. Without the discovery of quantum mechanics, the behavior of
small things and how they make up everything would be unknown. Plank sparked the discovered
Quantum mechanics when doing an experiment using heat and light to produce ultra violet radiation.
What Plank discovered is that light was not constant and could actually be considered particles. Planks
discovery brought about the question of whether small things act like a particle or a wave. This
question was tested in the double slit experiment. It was discovered that electrons act as a wave and
act as a particle. Plank applied his ideas and developed an equation that is used to describe light as a
quanta and not a continuous wave. Plank s equation contained a number today known as Plank s
constant, which is used in many equations involving wavelengths. Quantum mechanics deals with two
principles. The uncertainty principle explains that as an electrons position is more precise the less
accurate speed can be calculated and the more precise speed is known the less precise the location.
The second principle is the correspondence principle and this states that when the classical theory is

Prevalence Of Injuries During Sports Activities Essay
Introduction:
Prevalence of injuries during sports activities has become a common phenomenon in all over the
world, requiring to attention of all workers in the sports field, despite the tremendous progress in
various medical and sports sciences that use the modern methods in training, diagnosis, treatment,
rehabilitation and prevention and provision of specialist coaches, doctors and physiotherapists, but the
sports injuries are inevitable and are remain a mostly widespread among elite athletes, threatening
their performance levels and a barrier to achieve the expected goals in different sports activities (Asser
S. A., 2012) (Hatami K. et al, 2011).
Sports injuries can have a variety of causes and vary between different sports and different individuals
and have adverse effects that may hamper participation in sports activities and can repeatedly affect
the same individual making it necessary to count not only injured persons but also sport injury events.
In addition, sports injuries result in substantial costs for society, making these injuries a societal
problem, need to conduct more studies to prevent them (Petridou E., 2004) (Junior L. et al, 2015).

Hannah Arendt s The Human Condition
The Human Condition
Hannah Arendt s book, The Human Condition, examines the vita activa and it s relation to three
fundamental human activities: labor, work and action. Arendt holds that these three activities
correspond to one of the basic conditions under which life on earth has been given to man and make
up politics (7). Throughout the book Arendt ultimately makes the point that our main political job is to
discover other people s opinions about political life and to then go forward and examine these
opinions together. Differing viewpoints and opinions are inevitable and through politics we examine
these opinions and should be able to find agreements within the discrepancies. In Arendt s opinion

Labor and work can be easily distinguished between by the products length of stay in the world. These
things are unnatural, or artificial. Products, such as houses, desks and phones are examples of things
constructed through work. The activity of work provides for a stable world and serves the purpose of
creating durability. Unlike labor, works sole relation to providing viable living conditions results in the
view of every thing and every person as a means to make the object. Through the activity of work, the
end justifies the means. This results in people being treated as a means to an end instead of a unique
person. In the world of work, one person is in charge and violence is acceptable. Arendt justifies the
use of violence, particularly in relation to nature, by saying the end justifies the violence done to
nature to win the material, as the wood justifies killing the tree and the table justifies destroying the
wood . Because products of work are so durable and have a long lifespan, they provide continuity with
the past. Although work does not directly connect to the human condition of life, it does provide some
rewards. Work provides pride and a sense of accomplishment. According to Arendt, work can provide
self assurance and satisfaction, and can even become a source of self confidence throughout life (140).
People are able to master nature and therefore master oneself. The highest reward of work however is
the work of art. While it is

Carol Deeb s Argumentative Analysis
Currently in the United States Congress, only one of five individuals are female. There has never been
a female president, and out of the 9 judicials in the Judicial Branch only one is a woman. It is clear
that men hold most of government positions. Men hold other authoritative positions as well, in
business, in schools, and at home. Is this a surprise? Why don t we see more women in these worthy
roles? Women acquire many qualities that can benefit the world, but the crazed, advanced society
shuts women down. Yes, men have proven themselves to be very successful and smart; but today s
society coerces women to climb mountains to achieve the respect, and the jobs that men receive. In
foreign countries like Pakistan, women are taught not to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women treat men with equal respect, whereas men do not. Women tend to be receptive to both men
and women in superior roles, found a 2014 study titled A Man s (Precarious) Place. Men, on the other
hand, were more likely to be threatened by women in superior positions and were more assertive with
female leaders, according to the study. (Kirkham 2015). Elyssa Kirkham states that women are more
willing to receive input from men. This capability creates diversity within the workplace. Diversity
leads to more talent within the workplace, an advantage for companies determined to strive. Pallab
Dutta, of Demand Media, states, Access to a larger talent pool is one of the biggest advantages of
having an employment recruitment policy that values diversity. (Dutta 1). This diverse environment
leads to more talent, which results in creative solutions for problems and better organizational
productivity (Dutta 1). Having employees that can endorse equality, accept both men and women s
input, is key to success within a business. Without it, a companies who do not support equality will not

part of. Women could become athletic trainers for the NFL. An athletic trainer is a health care
specialist that focuses on prevention of injury and rehab to recuperate athletes (Summary). Currently

It is unnerving to have a woman in the same room while players are showering and changing. It is also
awkward for the female athletic trainer to be present when men all around her are changing and
showering. A second argument for those who oppose is that women are seen as pushovers in the
training room. Stereotypically, women are seen as dainty, elegant people that cannot stand up in an
authority position over the gigantic football brutes. Likewise, it is awkward for a female athletic
trainer to demonstrate her power over the coach. If the athletic trainer believes that the team needs a
water break, it is his or her obligation to inform the coach, and sometimes it can get pretty dicey
between the athletic trainer and the coach. Also, if an athletic trainer will not clear a player to be able
to return to play, the coach and the athletic trainer can become very argumentative and irrational. If the
athletic trainer is female, the coach believes that she will hold grudges like most other females they
know. The final argument is that women can be a distraction to the players. If there is a female on the
field, the players could get distracted and not be able to focus clearly on the task at hand. Almost
following the same line, there is a big hazard potential. Sexual harassment is a big issue in any work
environment, but imagine how much more of a hazard this would be. The hazard potential of sexual
harassment

The Private Market And Venture Capitalist
Mr. Whitney presented enlightening information regarding entrepreneurship, why it is important and
how the private market or venture capitalist are so important in investing in entrepreneurs. Venture
capital is changing the global economy as banks are not investing in businesses anymore other than
lending funds. Wealth creation has changed due to the internet and today wealth creation is out pacing
the wealth created by inheritance (M. Whitney, personal communication, May 21, 2016). An axiom
from Mr. Whitney s company is networks create and disrupt net worth. As explained, networks bind
things together, but they take away somewhere else. This can be illustrated in the railroad industry.
The railroad created a network, which tied the east and west coast together, facilitating travel and
movement of goods from coast to coast. However, the railroad industry disrupted net worth of the
horse and buggy industry, as this mode of transportation was replaced. It is typical for organizations to
follow a common business model within an industry but, if you assume that there is only one business
model, then your organization gets disrupted and you are blindsided. Another idea presented was retail
is a good indicator of market shifts, with three big trends portrayed in retail that is extended to every
industry as a predictive indicator. One of these trends is consolidation, which we see companies
buying up companies, therefore the customer base is getting smaller. This

Persuasive Technology Is Important For Defining The...
Persuasive technology is the computing technology that encourages a social influence mechanism, or
a form of interaction that aims at changing the way people behave or think [XXX]. The persuasive
technology archetype is important for defining the interaction structures of systems supporting
behavioural change. Fogg [XX] lists the core concepts of persuasive technology as: (1) an attempt to
change attitudes or behaviour or both without coercion or deception, (2) a focus on human computer
interaction, (3) a focus on planned persuasive effects, (4) a focus on endogenous or built in persuasive
intent, which means that a system is intentionally designed to persuade, and (5) persuasion that may

These methodologies integrate persuasion strategies as described by Fogg, i.e. simplifying of tracking
and reinforcement. Both strategies are employing an underlying feedback loop by mirroring back the
recorded behaviour. The simplification of tracking give the interpretation of the data to the user, but by
capturing the right data, e.g. plotting sports activities vs. weight, some behaviours can be sustained.
Fogg [XXX] has also suggested some key persuasion principles on designing effective persuasive
technologies or methodologies, which include reduction, tunnelling, tailoring, suggestion, self
monitoring, surveillance and conditioning. To briefly explain these principles so that some content can
be more easily understood later in the thesis. Reduction means using technology to simplify complex
tasks and the goal of this strategy is to let the desired behaviour more tempting by reducing the
difficulties and to make it easier for the user. Tunnelling is to provide guidance to the user by guiding
the user through a predefined sequence of activities, and this strategy is being well applied in current
design and implementation of general mobile applications. Tailoring lets the general public use
personalized and individually relevant information to change attitudes or behaviour or both of them.
Tailoring is known as one of

The Importance and Uses of Magnesium Essay
In chemistry and in our world there are elements that are needed for survival in our everyday life, and
one essential element that both humans and plants need is magnesium. Magnesium is an alkaline earth
metal that is the second element found in group two on the periodic table. Magnesium is an important
element that is used in our everyday society and found in the industry, agriculture, research, and
medical areas. Magnesium is a hard, silvery white metal that is the lightest weight element used for
making objects that need to have a strong metal to keep it together. Its symbol is Mg and its atomic
number, the number of protons found in the nucleus of an atom, is twelve ( Magnesium Periodic).
Magnesium is one of the more commonly used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reaction that Magnesium Chloride makes is MgCl2 → Mg + Cl2 (Uttley). A Magnesium
compound that helps with the heating in your home is Magnesium Oxide (MgO). It is a good
insulating material and heating refractory. The balance equation for this is: 2Mg + O2 → 2MgO. Also,
when using cotton and wool fabrics, cement, or ceramics people need Magnesium Citrate
(Mg3(C6H5O7)2. ( Magnesium Today s). Other compounds that are in industry are magnesium
fluoride and magnesium oxide that produce glass and ceramics, magnesium hexafluorosilicate that is
mothprooding of textiles, magnesium phosphate that can be used for fireproofing wood for
construction, and magnesium sulfite that is used in manufacturing paper (Newton). Since magnesium
is easily reactive it can combine with other elements to form several useful compounds.
One specific use of Mg compounds in our society is the functions of magnesium alloys in the industry
field. An alloy is a mixture of two or more metals with properties different from those of the
individual metals (Newton). For example, since magnesium is a lightweight metal and aluminum is a
heavier metal magnesium can alloy with Aluminum. Magnesium and aluminum alloys create
airplanes, automobiles, ladders, artificial limbs, vaccum cleaners, lawn mowers, some portable power
and gardening tools, car wheels, soda cans, and skis. Since Mg is one of the lightest metals it is used
in vehicles so that there can be less fuel (Uttley).

Essay on Education in France
Education in France
France is a nation focused on culture. It is in many ways the quot;cultural capital of the world quot;.
France has always been an inspiration for many artists. Due to its strong culture and other moral
factors, France is a country afraid of change and its education system is subject to this fear. In France
today, the education system is very similar to what it has been in the past. As other nations take steps
to reform and improve their educational facilities France must be willing to follow or they will be left
behind.
In France the education system is run by the state, it is supported by the state and is therefore basically
free. During a French education, emphasis is placed on the transfer of knowledge. This ... Show more

The Lycee is the equivalent of the U.S. high school except students attend the Lycee for 3 years not 4.
The Lycee is the time when students must decide their future educational plans. During the first year
in the Lycee which is called the seconde, students are required to take mathematics, physics, biology,
French, history, geography, physical education, and two foreign languages. During the second year or
the premiere of the Lycee, students may spend no more than 2 hours on electives, and must spend no
less than 25 but no more than 35 hours per week in the classroom. A typical week in a French school
runs from Monday to Saturday. In the final year of the Lycee called the terminal, students are required
to study philosophy and prepare for the bac which is the only way to move on to higher education. For
a student to go onto higher education they must first pass the Baccalaureat. This is similar to the SAT
or ACT test in the U.S. There are 8 types of Baccalaureat tests, labeled A H. Baccalaureat A tests the
student in Languages, Law and Psychology. The Baccalaureat B tests the students in Economics.
Baccalaureat C tests the students in Mathematics and Physics; Baccalaureat D tests the students in
Biology; Baccalaureat E tests the students in Engineering, Baccalaureat G tests the students in

Voltaire s Candide
Within the text, I really didn t have a take for many of the other stories besides Candide itself, which
seemed to be the highlight of the stories as it seems to be more humane based compared to the others.
When looking at the other stories, I felt that many of them strayed from key ideas of humanity and
relatableness that didn t really make me want to read them. For this reason, I ve focused more on
understanding Candide since it was a very odd and compelling story that I both took joy in reading
along with a bit of confusion. Throughout it, I m often surprised with how the story goes not because
it is complex, but because it takes some weird turns in terms of plot. For instance, we see that many
characters die but within just a little bit later they are suddenly alive for some random reason even
though they should be dead. It kind of brought an odd feeling as I was reading not only because
elements similar to this were scattered about the story, but the story itself was also comprised of many
irregular elements. One of the main things that made me conflict with the text a bit was it s simplistic
way of developing the text through Candide s misfortunes. He s consistently thrown out, beaten,
tortured (both mentally and physically), and put to the test on more than one occasion. Though, for
some reason he seems to always be okay with it all even coming to the point of progressing past many
things that others wouldn t be able to handle. A big part that I can remember is when

Hate Crime And Social Dominance Theory
Animals don t hate, and we re supposed to be better than them , is a quote by Elvis Presley. Hatred can
be defined as deep feeling of resentment or anger toward another person, group, or thing. It has caused
violent acts of anger and rage. Hate crimes are crimes that are motivated by racial, sexual, or other
prejudice, typically one involving violence (Oxford Dictionary). An example of a hate crime is the
murder of an African American man, by a group of white men, in Mississippi. This crime carries
several characteristics of hate crime, and supports the Social Dominance Theory.
The first characteristic that this hate crime exhibited is that the haters took time to go look for an
African American to victimize in an unfamiliar area. A group of white men, who disliked black
people, went to a party in Puckett. There they discussed going to Mississippi capital to find African
Americans to harass. The men went to Mississippi, and bullied unknown black men and women
during the night. The white driver, Deryl Dedmon, drove over a black man named James Craig
Anderson with his vehicle, killing him. Going to an unfamiliar area, which the white men did in this
murder, is a characteristic of hate crime. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The men had the intentions of finding an African American to harass that night, not anyone is
particular. In fact, they harassed many African Americans before killing James by making fun of them,
using abusive language and throwing items such as empty beer bottles at them. When they came
across James, they had first beaten him, and then Deryl Dedmon drove over him with his truck while
another friend made a video. James was a victim killed by people he didn t know, and that is another
characteristic of a hate

Death In Mary Oliver s Sleeping In The Forest
Mary Oliver s poem, Sleeping in the Forest, presents a peaceful and vivid representation of death and
its relationship with nature. As the poem begins, the reader is introduced to the earth welcoming the
speaker back into the realm of nature. Man was created from the dust of the earth and when we die,
our bodies return to the dust. However, this poem presents a more beautiful image of what death is
composed of. Death is often portrayed as being frightening and disturbing. When individuals are
presented with the thought of death, they often push this thought away out of fear and ignorance.
Everyone will die someday whether we ignore the thought of death or not. However, Oliver creates a
relaxing and welcoming image for the reader on what death (ideally) is. Obviously, since Oliver is still
alive, she doesn t know what death feels like. However, the way she describes death, I hope that it
feels like sleeping in a forest; full of stars and enchantment. The enchantment in this poem begins by
the earth welcoming the speaker back home. This speaker expresses that, She took me back so
tenderly. This statement exemplifies to the reader that death is not a scary process. In this case, the
earth is being portrayed as a woman. This is significant because women are often portrayed as being
nurturing and caring. For the reader, this can trigger memories or ideas of who the reader would
picture the earth as. Whether that be a mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, etc. the reader can

Why Is Dr.Watson Important to Sherlock Holmes Essay
The classic mystery novel, Sherlock Holmes, features a murder mystery detective Sherlock Holmes,
and his army doctor colleague Dr. John Watson. The story revolves around the main character,
Sherlock Holmes, and his unique method to solving crimes. The story is mainly all about Sherlock and
his abilities, which then rises the question about the importance of the character of Dr.Watson, both to
the chaarcter of Sherlock Holmes, and towards the readers.
The first reason why Dr.Watson might be important to the character of Sherlock is because he makes
Sherlock more human . If you have ever seen a Sherlock movie, or TV show, the first thing you would
notice about Sherlock is his gigantic ego and shellfish attitude towards other people. He ... Show more

That is where Dr.Watson also plays a part in. Dr.Watson does the boring work for Sherlock. Dr.Watson
would be guarding the door, or watching over the security cameras, meanwhile, Sherlock would be out
doing the dangerous stuff such as breaking into a secret laboratory or going out in the woods at
midnight. One example would be in the Sherlock BBC TV Show episode The Hound of Baskerville ,
when Sherlock asked Dr.Watson to watch over the house and the family, while Sherlock goes to
investigate.
Dr.Watson does not only serve as a purpose towards Sherlock, but also towards the readers or
audiences. Many may not notice this, but in the Sherlock BBC TV Show, Dr.Watson takes notes of the
cases and posts them on his blog. So therefore, the Sherlock stories were written by Dr.Watson.
Without Dr.Watson s notes or blog, there would not be a Sherlock Holmes story to be told.
Last but not least, Dr.Watson would be an important character towards the audience/readers, because
Dr.Watson will explain in everyday english, what Sherlock is saying. Sherlock often talks to himself,
and when he does figure a mystery out, he would just walk out the door and starts speaking is
accelerated gibberish. An example would be in the Sherlock book by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the one
titled The Boscombe Valley Mystery , out of the blue, Sherlock had already solved the case. Inspector
Lestrade and Dr.Watson were all very puzzled, and i think the readers must be as well. Therefore,

Labour Changed the Face of Britain Between the Years of...
Between 1945 and 1951 the Labour Government changed the face of Britain. Discuss.
Between the years 1945 and 1951 the entire shape of Britain s economy, society and government
changed. After World War 2, Britain was left in economic and financial depression. Countries such as
Japan and Germany, left in utter ruin from the war, ironically, were able to rebuild their economies
faster, and better than we could improve ours. It was felt that a great change was required in Britain,
and perhaps it was that feeling that led to the fall of the conservatives and the beginning of one of the
greatest governments in England s history.
The Atlee government of 45 51 has perhaps been slightly overlooked due to comparisons to the war
time leader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Atlee s Government, as well as creating change, also focused on other aspects of society he felt the
labour party could improve. Acts such as the Education Act of 1944 and the Family Allowance Act of
1945, were only truly implemented under Atlee s Government despite being introduced during the
war. These two laws focused on the fairness of Children s lives, compulsory and free education and
payments to Mothers who could not afford to support all of their children better known now as
Benefits .
These reforms were perhaps not a social revolution, as they did not seem to change things specifically,
rather, improve and build on what was already in existence. People of the time, although all the more
happy for it, seemed to agree that it was not a revolution. In regards to Labour changing the face of
Britain , I think, concerning The Welfare State the very fact it is still the basis , essence of our Country
s policies today, and that no party has abolished nor disputed the need for it, is testament to its
significance.
Labour brought about change in other areas too, such as the rather urgent and dyer issue of the
economy. The key issues Labour were to introduce were Nationalisation and Keynesian economics.
Labour felt is was any government s, and so their right to direct and control key aspects of Britain s

Character Rank In Society in The Canterbury Tales by Chaucer
The Canterbury Tales can be understood as a Chaucerian satire according many readers. Chaucer sets
out to deliberately upset the social order present at that time and to mock the faults present in the
characters. Although he baffles about the complexity of the characters, Chaucer also praises and
condemns characters for their unique qualities. Chaucer further gives us feedback of what actions the
characters are taking in their lives. Many of the pilgrims are headed off to Canterbury, to worship the
relics of Saint Thomas Becket. Thomas Becket was murdered by his friend King Henry and soon
Canterbury became a pilgrimage site for people to pray for their healings. As for Chaucer, he observed
both high and lower social class to get a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Line 73) The Knight, according to Chaucer takes the code of chivalry very seriously and straight
forth. He based his values on the code of chivalry and doesn t intend to break it. His attire also
contributes to why Chaucer thinks highly of him. His clothes are made from a coarse cloth and his
coat is rust stained. We can infer that the Knight isn t very wealthy but regardless, when compared to
the other characters, he lives the best life of all. The Merchant is a high figure in society because he is
a part of the wealthy class. Although he may seem unmoral because being part of the wealthy class,
Chaucer s perception is very different. Chaucer believed he was a worthy man because he governed all
[his] trade affairs well. (Lines 282 283) Chaucer admires the way the Merchant handles his business,
doing what it takes to get his job done. He borrows money and disguises himself well if and never he
is in debt. Looking at the Merchant physically, we can see that he has nice things such as his elegant
boots [and] Flemish beaver hat. (Lines 272 273) Again, it seems as though he cares immensely over
material possession, but he does it to look more sophisticated in his business plans. Even though the
Merchant is already classified a member of the higher class, Chaucer also puts him in the higher ranks
because of his intelligence in trade and business. Chaucer s principle

Rhetorical Devices In The Cask Of Amontillado
For one to convey the explicit and implicit main ideas in one s story, one must employ a multitude of
rhetorical strategies. In Poe s The cask of Amontillado , a horror story in which a man sets out to kill
his friend during a festival, his use of rhetoric allowed him to strike a sense of fear and anticipation
into the audience. However, the main purpose of the rhetoric Poe used is in order to convey the
explicit main idea of revenge and the implicit main idea of the price for foolishness. The explicit main
idea of revenge in The Cask of Amontillado is conveyed to the reader through sundry rhetorical
strategies. For example Montresor, the malefactor of his friend s murder, states that, THE thousand
injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge.
From this, it is clearly seen the main idea is revenge. Furthermore, he tells the reader that in order for
his revenge to be satisfactory he must, not only punish but punish with impunity. (Poe 1) In other
words, he must seek revenge in such a manner that Fortunato will not know about him attempting to
gain his vengeance until the last moment.
On the other hand, the implicit main ideas of foolishness and violence are stated much more discreetly
than the explicit main idea. In How to Read Literature Like a Professor, Foster provides an
explanation for why Poe chose to have Montresor kill Fortunato by stating writers kill off characters
for the same set of reasons make

  • 2. The Structure Of Dracula COUNT DRACULA FREEDOM FROM FANDOM is a light hearted fantasy tale that brings to life the iconic characters from many novels and films about Dracula and the other monsters. There s no doubt that the strength of this script is the ensemble cast of colorful and offbeat characters, especially Dracula, Frankenstein, and Wolfie. Together they feel like iconic, authentic friends and it s fun to watch them interact with each other. However, with that said, the overall script would benefit from more development. One of the concerns about the script is the structure, including the goal, the pace, and the tension. The overall plot doesn t feel goal focused. When he sleeps, he is Tyler Durden, a total different personality man, a Marxist s representative. When he wakes up, he is him. Quickly, the money is back to the bosses. Despite of being surrounded by innumerable valuable things, the workers lived meaningless lives: an endless loop, unable to escape. The narrator realizes it, and finds bored with his life. He wants to escape the endless loop, he wants to be freedom, but no hope. The narrator just only has that in his dream. It constantly switches from the past, to the present, and through journal entries made by Anna Goldsmith, a 16 year old girl who takes a drug overdose. Her mom reads her journal while sitting next to her in her hospital bed, waiting for her to come out of the coma she s currently in. There are a couple reasons Anna tried to kill herself, but mainly one: Hayley Parkin. When Anna first moved to the new school, her and Hayley were best friends. They were inseparable. In this essay, I am going to be analysing how women are objectified in the 2013 Hollywood film, The Wolf of Wall Street (directed by Martin Scorsese). I will be analysing how women are objectified using a theory produced by feminist film critic Laura Mulvey. This theorist is a British professor of film and media studies at Birkbeck in London. The theory of male gaze refers to the way visual arts; such as film, TV and advertising are structured around a masculine audience and the way in which women are put into situations where they are intended to be viewed in a masculine way, such as being objects of desire and sex. Belfort and the remaining males of the office offer the female sales assistant $10,000 to shave her hair off in front of everyone. This could be seen as low self objectification but to make the matter worse, the female sales assistant agrees to use the $10,000 for breast implants, further adding to the male gaze by objectifying herself, to further sexually objectify herself by making herself more appealing to males by having larger ... I chose this subject because I felt it was important for an employer trying to compete in this very competitive business environment, no matter what the business is, to be able not only hire the best and most qualified employees but retain them and keep them motivated. The ability to distinguish the difference between high performing employees and lower performing employees can be detrimental to a company s success or failure. In retrospect, this goes back to recruiting and retaining the best employees while avoiding and being able to let go of those of a weaker caliber. Before an organization can thrive in recruitment and retention, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jackson, Schuler, amp; Werner explain, Retention includes all of an employer s activities to encourage qualified and productive employees to continue working for the organization (Jackson et al., p.188). This comes down to that particular organization s willingness to motivate and make those employees who are high performing and productive satisfied enough to continue to work there at that same level if not higher level. Improvements in productivity, reduction in labor costs, and a competitive edge are all the things that can be attributed with a successful recruiting and retention program. This in turn makes your organization more alluring to those on the outside looking in. Now that the definition of recruitment is clear it time to explore the different strategies that are used in the recruitment process. Kevin Ryan, successful CEO of Guilt Goupe, states, Recruiting is so important that we intentionally overinvest in it (Ryan, 2012, p.45). This statement shows how important recruitment is. Being a recent college graduate that landed a job fresh out of college within my field and now seeking work, I can say first hand that the recruitment process is not done in one certain way, but in a variety of ways. One of the most common ways to get recruited is by referral. Referrals take place when current workers of an organization inform their associates about job openings and recommend they apply. • 12. The Physics Of Quantum Mechanics Quantum Mechanics is a branch of physics that explains the really small things. These really small things, such as electrons are studied in an attempt to find out how they behave under certain conditions. Findings from the studies are then used to explain how the small particles make up and relate to the bigger parts of the world. Without the discovery of quantum mechanics, the behavior of small things and how they make up everything would be unknown. Plank sparked the discovered Quantum mechanics when doing an experiment using heat and light to produce ultra violet radiation. What Plank discovered is that light was not constant and could actually be considered particles. Planks discovery brought about the question of whether small things act like a particle or a wave. This question was tested in the double slit experiment. It was discovered that electrons act as a wave and act as a particle. Plank applied his ideas and developed an equation that is used to describe light as a quanta and not a continuous wave. Plank s equation contained a number today known as Plank s constant, which is used in many equations involving wavelengths. Quantum mechanics deals with two principles. The uncertainty principle explains that as an electrons position is more precise the less accurate speed can be calculated and the more precise speed is known the less precise the location. The second principle is the correspondence principle and this states that when the classical theory is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Throughout the book Arendt ultimately makes the point that our main political job is to discover other people s opinions about political life and to then go forward and examine these opinions together. These things are unnatural, or artificial. Products, such as houses, desks and phones are examples of things constructed through work. The activity of work provides for a stable world and serves the purpose of creating durability. Unlike labor, works sole relation to providing viable living conditions results in the view of every thing and every person as a means to make the object. Through the activity of work, the end justifies the means. This results in people being treated as a means to an end instead of a unique person. In the world of work, one person is in charge and violence is acceptable. Arendt justifies the use of violence, particularly in relation to nature, by saying the end justifies the violence done to nature to win the material, as the wood justifies killing the tree and the table justifies destroying the wood . Because products of work are so durable and have a long lifespan, they provide continuity with the past. Although work does not directly connect to the human condition of life, it does provide some rewards. Work provides pride and a sense of accomplishment. It is unnerving to have a woman in the same room while players are showering and changing. It is also awkward for the female athletic trainer to be present when men all around her are changing and showering. A second argument for those who oppose is that women are seen as pushovers in the training room. Stereotypically, women are seen as dainty, elegant people that cannot stand up in an authority position over the gigantic football brutes. Likewise, it is awkward for a female athletic trainer to demonstrate her power over the coach. If the athletic trainer believes that the team needs a water break, it is his or her obligation to inform the coach, and sometimes it can get pretty dicey between the athletic trainer and the coach. Also, if an athletic trainer will not clear a player to be able to return to play, the coach and the athletic trainer can become very argumentative and irrational. The Private Market And Venture Capitalist Mr. Whitney presented enlightening information regarding entrepreneurship, why it is important and how the private market or venture capitalist are so important in investing in entrepreneurs. Venture capital is changing the global economy as banks are not investing in businesses anymore other than lending funds. Wealth creation has changed due to the internet and today wealth creation is out pacing the wealth created by inheritance (M. Whitney, personal communication, May 21, 2016). An axiom from Mr. Whitney s company is networks create and disrupt net worth. As explained, networks bind things together, but they take away somewhere else. This can be illustrated in the railroad industry. The railroad created a network, which tied the east and west coast together, facilitating travel and movement of goods from coast to coast. However, the railroad industry disrupted net worth of the horse and buggy industry, as this mode of transportation was replaced. It is typical for organizations to follow a common business model within an industry but, if you assume that there is only one business model, then your organization gets disrupted and you are blindsided. • 22. The Importance and Uses of Magnesium Essay In chemistry and in our world there are elements that are needed for survival in our everyday life, and one essential element that both humans and plants need is magnesium. Magnesium is an alkaline earth metal that is the second element found in group two on the periodic table. Magnesium is an important element that is used in our everyday society and found in the industry, agriculture, research, and medical areas. Magnesium is a hard, silvery white metal that is the lightest weight element used for making objects that need to have a strong metal to keep it together. Its symbol is Mg and its atomic number, the number of protons found in the nucleus of an atom, is twelve ( Magnesium Periodic). Magnesium is one of the more commonly used ... A Magnesium compound that helps with the heating in your home is Magnesium Oxide (MgO). It is a good insulating material and heating refractory. The balance equation for this is: 2Mg + O2 → 2MgO. Also, when using cotton and wool fabrics, cement, or ceramics people need Magnesium Citrate (Mg3(C6H5O7)2. ( Magnesium Today s). Other compounds that are in industry are magnesium fluoride and magnesium oxide that produce glass and ceramics, magnesium hexafluorosilicate that is mothprooding of textiles, magnesium phosphate that can be used for fireproofing wood for construction, and magnesium sulfite that is used in manufacturing paper (Newton). Since magnesium is easily reactive it can combine with other elements to form several useful compounds. One specific use of Mg compounds in our society is the functions of magnesium alloys in the industry field. An alloy is a mixture of two or more metals with properties different from those of the individual metals (Newton). For example, since magnesium is a lightweight metal and aluminum is a heavier metal magnesium can alloy with Aluminum. Magnesium and aluminum alloys create airplanes, automobiles, ladders, artificial limbs, vaccum cleaners, lawn mowers, some portable power and gardening tools, car wheels, soda cans, and skis. Since Mg is one of the lightest metals it is used in vehicles so that there can be less fuel (Uttley). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

France has always been an inspiration for many artists. Due to its strong culture and other moral factors, France is a country afraid of change and its education system is subject to this fear. In France today, the education system is very similar to what it has been in the past. • 25. Voltaire s Candide Within the text, I really didn t have a take for many of the other stories besides Candide itself, which seemed to be the highlight of the stories as it seems to be more humane based compared to the others. When looking at the other stories, I felt that many of them strayed from key ideas of humanity and relatableness that didn t really make me want to read them. For this reason, I ve focused more on understanding Candide since it was a very odd and compelling story that I both took joy in reading along with a bit of confusion. Throughout it, I m often surprised with how the story goes not because it is complex, but because it takes some weird turns in terms of plot. For instance, we see that many characters die but within just a little bit later they are suddenly alive for some random reason even though they should be dead. It kind of brought an odd feeling as I was reading not only because elements similar to this were scattered about the story, but the story itself was also comprised of many irregular elements. One of the main things that made me conflict with the text a bit was it s simplistic way of developing the text through Candide s misfortunes. He s consistently thrown out, beaten, tortured (both mentally and physically), and put to the test on more than one occasion. Though, for some reason he seems to always be okay with it all even coming to the point of progressing past many things that others wouldn t be able to handle. • 26. Hate Crime And Social Dominance Theory Animals don t hate, and we re supposed to be better than them , is a quote by Elvis Presley. Hatred can be defined as deep feeling of resentment or anger toward another person, group, or thing. It has caused violent acts of anger and rage. Hate crimes are crimes that are motivated by racial, sexual, or other prejudice, typically one involving violence (Oxford Dictionary). An example of a hate crime is the murder of an African American man, by a group of white men, in Mississippi. This crime carries several characteristics of hate crime, and supports the Social Dominance Theory. The first characteristic that this hate crime exhibited is that the haters took time to go look for an African American to victimize in an unfamiliar area. A group of white men, who disliked black people, went to a party in Puckett. There they discussed going to Mississippi capital to find African Americans to harass. The men went to Mississippi, and bullied unknown black men and women during the night. The white driver, Deryl Dedmon, drove over a black man named James Craig Anderson with his vehicle, killing him. • 28. Death In Mary Oliver s Sleeping In The Forest Mary Oliver s poem, Sleeping in the Forest, presents a peaceful and vivid representation of death and its relationship with nature. As the poem begins, the reader is introduced to the earth welcoming the speaker back into the realm of nature. Man was created from the dust of the earth and when we die, our bodies return to the dust. However, this poem presents a more beautiful image of what death is composed of. Death is often portrayed as being frightening and disturbing. When individuals are presented with the thought of death, they often push this thought away out of fear and ignorance. Everyone will die someday whether we ignore the thought of death or not. However, Oliver creates a relaxing and welcoming image for the reader on what death (ideally) is. Obviously, since Oliver is still alive, she doesn t know what death feels like. However, the way she describes death, I hope that it feels like sleeping in a forest; full of stars and enchantment. The enchantment in this poem begins by the earth welcoming the speaker back home. This speaker expresses that, She took me back so tenderly. This statement exemplifies to the reader that death is not a scary process. In this case, the earth is being portrayed as a woman. This is significant because women are often portrayed as being nurturing and caring. For the reader, this can trigger memories or ideas of who the reader would picture the earth as. Why Is Dr.Watson Important to Sherlock Holmes Essay The classic mystery novel, Sherlock Holmes, features a murder mystery detective Sherlock Holmes, and his army doctor colleague Dr. John Watson. The story revolves around the main character, Sherlock Holmes, and his unique method to solving crimes. The story is mainly all about Sherlock and his abilities, which then rises the question about the importance of the character of Dr.Watson, both to the chaarcter of Sherlock Holmes, and towards the readers. The first reason why Dr.Watson might be important to the character of Sherlock is because he makes Sherlock more human . Dr.Watson would be guarding the door, or watching over the security cameras, meanwhile, Sherlock would be out doing the dangerous stuff such as breaking into a secret laboratory or going out in the woods at midnight. One example would be in the Sherlock BBC TV Show episode The Hound of Baskerville , when Sherlock asked Dr.Watson to watch over the house and the family, while Sherlock goes to investigate. Dr.Watson does not only serve as a purpose towards Sherlock, but also towards the readers or audiences. Many may not notice this, but in the Sherlock BBC TV Show, Dr.Watson takes notes of the cases and posts them on his blog. So therefore, the Sherlock stories were written by Dr.Watson. Without Dr.Watson s notes or blog, there would not be a Sherlock Holmes story to be told. Last but not least, Dr.Watson would be an important character towards the audience/readers, because Dr.Watson will explain in everyday english, what Sherlock is saying. Sherlock often talks to himself, and when he does figure a mystery out, he would just walk out the door and starts speaking is accelerated gibberish. An example would be in the Sherlock book by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the one titled The Boscombe Valley Mystery , out of the blue, Sherlock had already solved the case. Between the years 1945 and 1951 the entire shape of Britain s economy, society and government changed. After World War 2, Britain was left in economic and financial depression. Countries such as Japan and Germany, left in utter ruin from the war, ironically, were able to rebuild their economies faster, and better than we could improve ours. It was felt that a great change was required in Britain, and perhaps it was that feeling that led to the fall of the conservatives and the beginning of one of the greatest governments in England s history. The Atlee government of 45 51 has perhaps been slightly overlooked due to comparisons to the war time leader ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Atlee s Government, as well as creating change, also focused on other aspects of society he felt the labour party could improve. Acts such as the Education Act of 1944 and the Family Allowance Act of 1945, were only truly implemented under Atlee s Government despite being introduced during the war. These two laws focused on the fairness of Children s lives, compulsory and free education and payments to Mothers who could not afford to support all of their children better known now as Benefits . These reforms were perhaps not a social revolution, as they did not seem to change things specifically, rather, improve and build on what was already in existence. People of the time, although all the more happy for it, seemed to agree that it was not a revolution. In regards to Labour changing the face of Britain , I think, concerning The Welfare State the very fact it is still the basis , essence of our Country s policies today, and that no party has abolished nor disputed the need for it, is testament to its significance. Labour brought about change in other areas too, such as the rather urgent and dyer issue of the economy. The key issues Labour were to introduce were Nationalisation and Keynesian economics. • 31. Character Rank In Society in The Canterbury Tales by Chaucer The Canterbury Tales can be understood as a Chaucerian satire according many readers. Chaucer sets out to deliberately upset the social order present at that time and to mock the faults present in the characters. Although he baffles about the complexity of the characters, Chaucer also praises and condemns characters for their unique qualities. Chaucer further gives us feedback of what actions the characters are taking in their lives. Many of the pilgrims are headed off to Canterbury, to worship the relics of Saint Thomas Becket. Thomas Becket was murdered by his friend King Henry and soon Canterbury became a pilgrimage site for people to pray for their healings. (Line 73) The Knight, according to Chaucer takes the code of chivalry very seriously and straight forth. He based his values on the code of chivalry and doesn t intend to break it. His attire also contributes to why Chaucer thinks highly of him. His clothes are made from a coarse cloth and his coat is rust stained. We can infer that the Knight isn t very wealthy but regardless, when compared to the other characters, he lives the best life of all. The Merchant is a high figure in society because he is a part of the wealthy class. Although he may seem unmoral because being part of the wealthy class, Chaucer s perception is very different. Chaucer believed he was a worthy man because he governed all [his] trade affairs well. (Lines 282 283) Chaucer admires the way the Merchant handles his business, doing what it takes to get his job done. He borrows money and disguises himself well if and never he is in debt. Looking at the Merchant physically, we can see that he has nice things such as his elegant boots [and] Flemish beaver hat. (Lines 272 273) Again, it seems as though he cares immensely over material possession, but he does it to look more sophisticated in his business plans. Even though the Merchant is already classified a member of the higher class, Chaucer also puts him in the higher ranks because of his intelligence in trade and business. Chaucer s principle ... • 32. Rhetorical Devices In The Cask Of Amontillado For one to convey the explicit and implicit main ideas in one s story, one must employ a multitude of rhetorical strategies. In Poe s The cask of Amontillado , a horror story in which a man sets out to kill his friend during a festival, his use of rhetoric allowed him to strike a sense of fear and anticipation into the audience. However, the main purpose of the rhetoric Poe used is in order to convey the explicit main idea of revenge and the implicit main idea of the price for foolishness. The explicit main idea of revenge in The Cask of Amontillado is conveyed to the reader through sundry rhetorical strategies. For example Montresor, the malefactor of his friend s murder, states that, THE thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could, but when he ventured upon insult I vowed revenge. From this, it is clearly seen the main idea is revenge. Furthermore, he tells the reader that in order for his revenge to be satisfactory he must, not only punish but punish with impunity. (Poe 1) In other words, he must seek revenge in such a manner that Fortunato will not know about him attempting to gain his vengeance until the last moment. On the other hand, the implicit main ideas of foolishness and violence are stated much more discreetly than the explicit main idea. In How to Read Literature Like a Professor, Foster provides an explanation for why Poe chose to have Montresor kill Fortunato by stating writers kill off characters for the same set of reasons make ...
