Huron Community Reflection
I found a quote about three years ago on a wall at my camp that has stuck with me ever since. Each one of us can make a difference. Together we
make change. The quote is by an American politician by the name Barbara Mikulski and although I do not know what her personal beliefs are,
personally this is a mantra I aspire to live by. I want to make a difference in the world, and my first step out of high school on that path would be
at the Centre for Global Studies at Huron University College. I believe that one of the things that makes Huron special is it s smaller size in
comparison to many other universities. I spent my first three years of high school in a large school with classes with as many as 35 40 students. It

I am extremely passionate about social justice issues and love to find other like minded people who I can work with to raise awareness about
issues that we are passionate about as. I have been working with an organization called Free the Children since I was eight years old: helping
with the club at my school, attending We Day (a day of celebration in 3 5 major Canadian cities for students who have made both local and
global change commitments) five years in a row initially as an attendee and then two times as a volunteer, and I also attended their social justice
summer camp initially as a camper and then I was chosen as a LIT or leader in training which may open up the doors to be on summer staff there
in the future. At this camp, I was invited to think critically about many social justice issues and I gained leadership skills that built on the
leadership skills I had already developed through my five year experience as co captain of an elite soccer team. Coaches, camp counsellors and
teachers have referred to me as a natural, quiet leader who always motivates those around her. I want to be that kind of leader at Huron and

Volcano s A Volcano Eruption By Cliff Montgomery
Volcano How to Survive Them.
When it comes to surviving, people will take whatever means are necessary to live just a little bit longer. An example of this could be a point in
the movie Titanic. In order to survive the boat sinking, Rose rested on a piece of furniture that was drifting in the water. As a result, she was one
of the few people to actually be alive and rescued when the boats came back. When it comes to survival, at that moment in time there is no rule
book on what measure one can take to survive but a person should know the basics. Volcanoes are a good example of this. Volcano s: How to
Survive a Volcano Eruption by Cliff Montgomery s article is effective because it acknowledges what is in a volcano, explain what to do when a
volcano is erupting and provides knowledge about what to watch out for.
In the article: Volcano s How to Survive a Volcano Eruption by Cliff Montgomery , he gives people a knowledge of Volcano s in depth.
Montgomery first starts out giving background information about places where volcano eruptions have occurred what the effects of those
eruptions have done to the city and the people. Next, he goes into the workshop about how volcano s work and what is exactly inside of them
that does so much harm. Lastly, he mentions is how to protect one s self when the volcano erupts before and after the eruption.
No one really knows how volcanoes came to be but we know what is inside one. An example of this would be in the article Volcanoes

Evaluating The Best Educational Placement For Children...
Every year as their children enter the educational system, many parents of children with special needs have to choose the best educational fit to
maximize their children s long term success. I have been one of those parents. Raising a child with special needs comes with many challenges
along the way, but the choice of setting in which a child with special needs obtains their education has a long lasting impact on a child s physical
and emotional health. For this reason parents in collaboration with educators must weigh many factors to determine the best educational
placement for children with special educational needs. Therefore, placement in an educational setting must take into consideration the setting
that provides for the best interests of each particular child. Various educational options should continue to be available to students with special
needs to ensure they are receiving the education that is most appropriate for their areas strengths and weaknesses.
The current special education system determines the placement for these students in accordance with the recommendation of the child s
educational team. This group is made up of parents, educators and administrators from the child s school district, as well as administrators from
an alternative schooling option if applicable (Ohio Department of Education). The team is unique to each student and has the goal ensuring a

Essay on The Controlled Substances Act
The Controlled Substances Act (CSA) gives certain bodies or individuals such as research scientists, pharmacies, doctors and manufacturers the
legal right to access controlled substances.
Such persons or individuals must register with the Drug Enforcement Authority (DEA) whom provides the authorisation and regulation for the
access (Food and Drug Administration 2009). Yeh 2012 wrote that registration is granted on a public interest basis, generally relating to public
health, safety and compliance with state law.
Whilst the DEA authorises the aforementioned bodies to access the substances, it ultimately retains control and ownership over the substances.

As researched by the Australian Crime Commission, the synthetic cannabinoids appear as a dried, shredded plant material. The forensic analysis
of a range of brands, including the ones seized by ACT Policing, has indicated that the active ingredient varies both within and between the
brands (ACC 2013).
The naphthoylindole JWH 018 is one of the most common active substances in synthetic cannabinoids, specifically it is alleged to be in the
variety of Spice brand products (NCPIC, 2013) seized by ACT Policing.
Whilst most synthetic cannabinoids supplied to the United States are believed to be from Asia (Hunterdon Drug Awareness Program 2012),
unconfirmed reports suggest Australia receives most of its supply from New Zealand, since the founder of Kronic expanded his New Zealand
business to Australia in 2010 (Australian Drug Foundation 2013). The ban of synthetic cannabinoids in New Zealand was imposed on 8 May
2014 (NZ Drug Foundation 2014), which may influence the supply of synthetic cannabinoids to Australia in the future.
The ACT Policing investigation is currently ongoing.

Hurricane Katrina A Natural Disaster
Hurricane Katrina was one of the worst natural disasters in US history, the perfect storm in one of the most impoverished parts of the US. The
damage from the storm, flooding and the resulting loss of life and property was astounding. However, I lack the words to describe the economic
impacts of such a disaster to the peoples of the Gulf Coast. As with all major catastrophic events, even with all the planning in the world it comes
down to people helping people to survive. FEMA, the local and State Government, Emergency response/first responders, National Guard, and
Private Corporate Assistance did what they could to mitigate the damage, however, the planning for such an event was (in hindsight) far too little
and made the emergency even more dire. I see the responsibility for preparation for future hurricane/natural disasters can be divided into at least
4 parts: The Federal Government, State/Local officials, private corporations/industries, and personal responsibilities. Federal Government
Continued training and emergency planning at various Federal agencies. Unfortunately, in the case of chaotic natural disasters, Human element
(looters, gangs, violence) prior to Katrina may not have been fully part of the emergency response scenarios played out in simulations at a
federal/private think tank. This enigma may never be solved as regional behavior is almost impossible to predict without local experts in
sociological phycology and behavioral science. However,

Gender And Optical Illusions
Introduction Paragraph
In my science fair project I tested whether gender matter in the way people see optical illusions. I tested this because it sounded fascinating, and
also interesting. Optical Illusions now in day, it s used in many ways. They can be used as a way to trick people, to learn about sensory
perception, and to learn about how the brain perceives lighter values and dark values.
Research Summary
Optical illusions fool our brains by taking shortcuts, because the brain can t take everything at once. Our brain is able to perceive lighter values
more quickly than dark values. Our sense of light and dark becomes unreliable during this.
Cognitive Illusions have four different categories of illusions which are Distorting, ambiguous, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

learned that putting 5 people in a room is not the best way to do the optical illusions, because some people talk to each other even though they
are not allowed to. If I did this experiment again, I would fix every single difficulty I had in this

Essay on Genetics Are the Main Cause of Psychopathy
One of the things about these kids is that they don t pay attention to the deep emotions or the deep concerns of other people. They can just look at
it in the face and go whatever and move on. (Malcolm) Whereas some may argue that psychopaths are developed more from their environment,
the characteristic traits and neurological data prove genetics are the main cause of psychopathy.
Psychopathy is a personality disorder characterized by a constellation of interpersonal, affective and behavioral characteristics. (Harc, 1998)
There are many personality traits that accompany those who are considered to be a psychopath. High levels of aggression or delinquency, and
antisocial behaviors are all seen in youth with personalities correlating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Subsequent studies in youth with conduct disorder show that the parents socialization with their children has less of an affect upon the
development of conduct problems, suggesting more genetic significance in youth who are notably callous. (Dolan). Mental retardation, lower
intelligence and inability to learn basic communication and language skills have been reported in youth considered psychopathic. Also reported
is the severe psychopathy occurring from the youths parents. These parents have issues such as extreme maladjustment, chronic alcoholism, and
many incarcerations for criminal acts. (Bezdjian). In order to confirm, tests have been made to assess psychopathic traits in youth. These tests
have been recreated from the adult versions. The psychopathy checklist is a scale test used for youth ages thirteen to eighteen, it has the same
factor structure as the adult PCL R test from which it was created and focuses on interpersonal aspects of personality and chronic antisocial
structure. The psychopathy screening device is used for youth ages six to twelve, and is completed by teachers or parents for validity reasons.
The most widely used test is the youth psychopathic traits inventory, which is a self report of fifty items which focus on core personality
correlations of youth and psychopaths. (Dolan).
Now researchers are focusing more on theories of the neurobiological basis of psychopathy. The two most

Timothy Mcveigh s Invictus
Timothy McVeigh was quoted the famous poem, Invictus, saying I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul . McVeigh believed in
many things; one being that government was planning to strip it s citizens of their rights. As McVeigh hatred for the government grew so did the
outcome of his actions. After the Waco Siege massacre, which involved the accidental burning of an isolated compound that took the lives of
seventy six members of a religious cult in Texas, McVeigh wrath against the government was boiling. It was at this time that McVeigh planned to
carry out one of the worst terrorist attacks ever on US soil. It is often told that in the last moments of someone s life remorse and shame are
visibly expressed on an individual s face; however, in the execution of domestic terrorist, Timothy McVeigh, that was not the case. Timothy
McVeigh was raised the small working class town of Pendleton, New York. Since Pendleton was a small town, McVeigh generally had very few
things to do therefore he often spent his spare time at football games, the bowling alley, or at a bingo event. Timothy was raised by his father
during his adolescence after his parents got a divorce after years of a rocky marriage (source 6). It was during this time that Timothy formed a
strong relationship with his grandfather, who first introduced him to guns. Shortly after the beginning of his gun obsession, Timothy would read

Sequence And Rate Of Development Sequence Analysis
The sequence and rate of each aspect of childâ€TMs development, from birth to 19 years, is regarded as a holistic event. This means that no part
of development takes place in isolation from the others. I will now explain, however, the sequence and rate of development for: babies (0 3
years); formative years (3 12 years); and adolescence (12 †19 years). Starting with babies and toddlers, the physical development is as follows.
Babies develop very quickly indeed, and although physical control does not come as part of the package, they have built in reflexes that help
them to survive. For instance, they are able to latch onto a motherâ€TMs breast and grasp things with their hands. By the time they are 1 years
old, most babies are relatively ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
No matter what a childâ€TMs innate intellectual capacity is, learning is not a smooth curve †although some children learn quicker than others.
They can be quite inconsistent in ability, being very good at some things yet unable to accomplish other tasks. Learning starts the moment we are
born and babies take everything in as they look arounds. They may not understand it all, but their learning has already begun. Babies like
repetitive activities because they understand quickly what the outcome is supposed to be, hence they will often know when the outcome is not
what is expected. Their first 3 years are often spent learning the name of things (e.g. animals) and even more conceptual things such as colours

we will explore the effects of Ayn Rand s philosophy, Objectivism, as it has been expressed through her novels (e.g. Atlas Shrugged) and
subsequently the Socio Economic Movement that has risen because of it, Anarcho Capitalism. We will look at the consequences, both positive
and negative, of Objectivism by examining 2K Boston s 2007 award winning game, Bioshock, and assessing how the fictional city of Rapture
can be compared to a hypothetical model of 21st Century America should we choose to adopt the ideas and Socio Economic Theories that are

Andrew Ryan s utopia has fallen into absolute disarray, which clearly demonstrates that Bioshock as a whole can be construed to be a criticism
of the dangers of Objectivism and the step that logically follows it, Anarcho Capitalism. Now how this matters is not simply that a fictional city
in a fictional game fell into anarchy and subsequently disarray as a result of this moral philosophy and socio economic system. What makes this
a concern is that these ideas are becoming more and more accepted within modern society. There are continuous discussions regarding a number
of things in today s society, such as Do Corporations have rights? and To what limit should Government be allowed to impose regulation on the
Private Sector? which can accurately be assessed as being partially symptomatic of this increasingly prevalent line of thinking. Upton Sinclair
wrote The Jungle as a criticism, not of the meatpacking industry as a whole, but of how the workers were treated.2 It is safe to assume that if we
were to implement the line of thinking evident in Andrew Ryan s utopian Rapture, that we would undo over a century s worth of progress in
regard to Workers Rights, Health Regulations, and a slew of other things which have only served to positively impact not only the quality of life,
but the quantity of life, of Americans today. One of the major innovations in Rapture was the discovery of ADAM and following that,

My Special Place Essay
Words like cozy, calm, and memories can be used to describe my special place. A special place depends on the individual you are referring to. To
me a special place allows the person to be happy and sad at the same place. This is where all realms of memories are made, allowing the
individual to be able to reflect on them when entering that special atmosphere. In the warm summers I sit in our lawn with my dog as the cool
wind blows, a feeling falls over me thinking about why I love my home and property so much and that I m so very thankful to have it. I zone out
for hours thinking about all the time that I have spent there with my family and friends. While I never regret any of the memories I have made, I
cherish all of them and hold them close to my heart. When an individual says a word like cozy one may think about fuzzy slipper or something

Advertising For Advertising
How much are ads part of everyday life? The New York Times recorded a study by Yankelovich, a market research firm, and they estimated that
people living in a city see up to 5,000 or more advertisements a day. By the same token, children are heavily exposed to advertising, and most of
the ads today are directed right at them. Advertising to children is a big part of the market today. Therefore, advertisers should not market to
children because it is unethical. It can influence children s behavior in a negative fashion, and markets can exploit children, and can use the
media to reach children at young ages even though they are not able to understand its intent. Ads can influence and affect a child s behavior. With
this in mind, marketers tapped into the children s market and figured it would boost their revenue. It all starts when a child is very young.
According to the article How Marketers Target Kids children at six months of age can form mental images of corporate logos and mascots.
Brand loyalties can be established as early as age two... Not to mention, marketers will create campaign ads so children will use pestering
behavior to get a certain product, which starts at a young age as well ( How Marketers Target Kids ). Marketers want children to be bothersome
whenever they want something and to continue this behavior. To emphasize this fact YTV Kids and Tweens Report in 2008 found results saying

Throughout Cambodia s history, there were major leadership changes and large rebellions. During these times of political instability, the people
of Cambodia suffered from all of these negative changes. In the middle of the 1900s, a humanitarian crisis took place due to constant leadership
changes. The installation of Lol Nol by the United States and Sihanouk s actions with the help of the Khmer Rouge caused poverty and hunger
for the Cambodians and eventually lead to the reign of Pol Pot. Cambodia, a tropical area located in Southeast Asia, was already a French colony

Once Sihanouk and the Khmer Rouge gained back control over Cambodia, they set up policies that disregarded human life and produced
repression and massacres on a massive scale ( Khmer Rouge History ). Sihanouk once antagonized the Khmer, but now he decided to now create
an alliance between them. He did this because he was furious about being overthrown and craved revenge. With the Khmer Rouge, they slowly
were able to capture different pieces of land. Soon enough, the rebels were able to gain almost full control of Cambodia, despite the United
States bombing that tried to prevent another regime change; this time from the Khmer Rouge. As the United States decided to halt to bombing
the Khmer rebels were able to start obliterating certain parts of the country that were crucial to the political piece of the Cambodian government.
All of this damage led to lack of food for the Cambodians and loss of their property since it was destroyed in the bombing. Surely enough, the

Roman Army Discipline
Discipline is the practice of forcing people to follow societal norms. This has been necessary for all groups of humans that work together. Even
early Paleolithic humans worked in groups where some form of discipline would be necessary. Different methods and goals of discipline have

The Roman army used discipline for advanced strategy in warfare as well as state expansion. Rome was a vast empire and sought to conquer
many of the surrounding territories to acquire wealth and resources. They were constantly adopting and developing military tactics that would
help them gain a military edge. One of these innovations was the organization of their troops into a checkerboard formation. This formation was

One aspect of guerrilla warfare is to cut resources off from the enemy. This could be done by destroying telephone poles, sewers, railroads, or
water mains. Guerrilla fighters needed to be coordinated to execute these plans without the enemy catching them. The risk of such an operation
was high because the fighters would lose if the conventional army directly confronted them. Discipline enabled the fighters to be able to focus on
a mission and execute it swiftly and covertly. Also, the eventual goal in this conflict was to develop a conventional army. Guerrilla warfare was a
defensive battle. It was nigh impossible to capture strategic points from the enemy. Developing a conventional army would let resistive forces
capture new territory and forcibly push out the enemy. After years of discipline in the guerrilla army, the people would become well trained
soldiers that could be organized into a more conventional army. This aspect of discipline shares a similarity with the Romans. Discipline was

Life Goals And Challenges
Life goals and challenges
Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into visible said Tony Robbins, author and life coach. Everyone has challenges throughout
their life, but people have strengths that can lead up to effect their future. We use our goals to keep us motivated and our strengths to help us get
past the challenges we face. Our weaknesses fade because our strengths become so strong and we are faced with new challenges. With each
challenge we overcome we become stronger and we find more strengths in our challenges. I am a great friend because I always care for my

concerned about is self confidence. I struggle with making decisions and wondering what other people think about me. I am currently learning to

Knowledge Management Through Non Competes and Non Disclosures
There are many businesses that may require a contract be signed by employees, many employees may not read the contract completely, same as
many people do not read user agreements before they agree to them. Without reading and agreement how could one know what they are agreeing

Financial Crisis Of The Great Depression
Great economic times in America
The Great Recession and the Great Depression are the aftermath of mostly similar economic difficulties and are only different in a few respects.
Each period is marked by a massive run ups in asset prices followed by a crash in the stock market and sent both debt and equity markets down.
These periods are said to be the worse economic downturn in the country s history. During the great depression, as banks failed and threatened to
shut down the financial system altogether, President Franklin Roosevelt moved quickly and effectively to address the most dangerous financial
crisis of the Great depression. During the great depression, the stock market collapse that began in October 1929 took away huge amount of
wealth due to the greedy activities of the financial institutions who lent out money hastily and later had less even in their reserves. He created the
New Deal which responded to an unemployment rate that had reached 25 percent, and in some cities as much as 75 percent. He signed the
Emergency Banking Act, where investigators deemed it right for banks to continue their operations. The Glass Steagall Act created a barrier
between commercial and investment banking and established the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, which provides a warranty that
customers funds will be secured(Brinkley) .

The One Day of the Year Essay
How are the main characters in a play constructed to represent the text s underlying values and attitudes?
Answer with reference to at least one stage drama that you have seen or studied.
The One Day Of The Year explores a family s relationships at the time of Anzac Day. It is the story of a son questioning the validity of Anzac
Day as a true commemoration of our soldiers, while his father refuses to accept the changes in his son s attitudes, Alf s wife tries to anchor the
family and Wacka, the true Anzac, remembers his experiences in his own way.
In contrast, Alf and Dot, his parents, are obviously more traditional. The rest of the house is small, the furniture is dowdy, and their kitchen is
primitive.

Hughie is clearly uncertain. His youth means that he has not fully developed self awareness and understanding. Through much of the play he is
hesitant in his actions and not sure what to do with himself. Stage direction on page 24 says, He is nervous, on edge.
Alf clearly values Anzac Day and the drinking that accompanies it. On page 13 he says
I m a bloody Australian, mate, and it s because I m a bloody Australia that I m getting on the grog. It s Anzac Day this week, that s my day, that s
the old diggers day.
In comparison Hughie questions the true meaning of Anzac Day.
Do you know what you re even celebrating today? Do you? Do you even know what it all meant? (page 81)
He is angrily defending his point of view and swings on his father. He sees Anzac Day as one big day of drinking, and blames his father for his
disillusionment.
No, Dad. You started it... when you dragged me by the hand through mobs of them like this just exactly like this. That s all I ever saw on Anzac
Day, every year, year after year, a screaming tribe of great, stupid, drunken no hopers. (page 95)
But at the same time, Hughie still questions if these new opinions are right.
Oh, I don t know. Up there at uni it seems terrific to be outspoken and critical and everything. But... I m sorry. I didn t mean to hurt you. (page

the two poems are very different in their syntax and language usage. Quinceanera is very descriptive: I am to wash my own clothes and sheets

Intrusion Detection Systems And Data Fusion
In this part we will talk more deeply about this intrusion detection systems and data fusion.
Coming to intrusion detection systems it is defined as the problem of detecting the intruders who are accessing the company s networks or
systems without authorization. ID systems are categorized as:
1. Signature based detection: In this type the detection is based on signature or pattern of attacks because any attack is targeted on vulnerabilities
of a system
2. Anomaly based detection: In this type detection is based on looking for the anomalous behavior based on reviewing the audit files and log
files.
After categorization coming to the classification they are classified as:

The ideal characteristics of an Intrusion detection system are:
It must work continually with minimal human interference
It must be error free by being able to recover from system crashes, either accidental or by malicious activity.
Upon startup, the intrusion detection system must be able to recover its previous state and resume its operation unaffected.
It must resist subversion. The intrusion detection system should be automated by monitoring itself weather it has been compromised by an
intruder
It must impose a minimal overhead on the system where it is running, to avoid interfering with the system s normal operation.
It must be configurable according to the security policies of the system that is being monitored.
It must be adaptable over time to the advances. For example, new applications being installed, users changing from one activity to another or
new resources being available can cause changes in system use patterns.
As the number of systems to be monitored increases and the chances of attacks increase we also consider the following characteristics as
desirable:
It must be scalable to monitor a large number of hosts while providing results in a timely and accurate manner.
It must provide graceful degradation of service. If some components of the intrusion detection system stop working for any reason, the rest of
them should be affected as little as possible.
It must allow dynamic reconfiguration, allowing the

topical theme. The sad thing is that according to Bauer and Traina, we are really missing out. They write about how deduction appears to have an
end in sight, where as induction cannot be contained. It is almost as this idea of deduction is for the simple minded, or one with less time to ask

seem to gravitate to. This idea of theme based teaching and study. I wonder is this because, they want a solution to their problem? So

What Is Function Point Analysis
What is Function Point Analysis
Function point analysis is described by the IFPUG (International Function Point Users Group) as A sizing measure of clear business significance,
the FPA technique quantifies the functions contained within software in terms that are meaningful to the software users. (IFPUG, About Function
Point Analysis, 2014). Function point analysis is used to break systems into smaller parts so it is easier to analyse and understand. A function
point is a unit of measure used to measure the amount of functionality in a software application. The larger the number of function points an
application has the more functionality it has. Function points also measure the size of business requirements.
Function point analysis was first defined by the late Allan J. Albrecht in Measuring Application Development Productivity he was working for

great tool to measure scope creep. Function points should be counted at each stage of a projects lifecycle. If the number of function points in the

Media, Violence, And Violence Essay
Violent crime statistics is continually increasing overtime, and there are a wide variety of factors that contribute to this. One influencing factor
would be the media. Media and violence are both very wide and broad concepts that have massive impacts in our society, and it is important to
distinguish their relationship with each other. The types of media are things such as violent video games, films, newspapers, magazines and
television. One particular type of media that is often very problematized is violent video games. Different studies have shown convincing and
unconvincing correlational in regards to the media and violence, but to whom do we believe?
The media, especially in today s modern society surrounds us all the time. It affects our daily lives and has become part of our everyday routines,
which is why it has such a huge impact on us, and violent media is everywhere. It is known that by the time we get to our eighteenth birthday, we
will have seen and witnessed about 200,000 violent acts and about 16,000 murders (Media Education Foundation, 2005). There have been
ongoing controversial debates as to whether violent media exposure contributes to violent and aggressive behaviours and whether one is caused
by the other. Violence includes, but is not limited to things such as murder, assault, homicide, shootings, property offence, rape and assault. The
mainstream and popular notion has been that violent video games make people more aggressive and desensitized to

Themes InThe Rememberer And Jealous Husband Return In Form...
Many stories have similar themes, The Rememberer by Aimee Bender and Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot by Robert Olen Butler are
two short stories that do. In The Rememberer, Ben is going through reverse evolution and Annie and Ben both do not know why. It is implied
that Ben remembers Annie, but not completely specified. In Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the husband falls out of a tree trying to
catch his wife in the act of cheating and gets reincarnated into a parrot. He remembers her, but she does not know it is him and ends up choosing
and purchasing him from the pet store, putting him back into his own home. Both stories have ironic tendencies and share a similar theme, but
have different meanings. Throughout both stories, the characters are facing internal conflicts. In The Rememberer, Annie is dealing with Ben
going through reverse evolution. She does not know why he is going through it or what to do about it, which results in her battling herself in her
own mind. She cannot tell anyone what is going on because nobody would believe her, she is stuck telling people that he has a strange sickness
and is forced to keep it all inside. In Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the husband is dealing with the internal conflict of being
purchased by his wife and brought back into his home where now he is stuck seeing his wife with other men. The conflict comes in to play with
the husband because he does not have the vocabulary as a parrot to tell her that it is him. Throughout the two stories, the men are both, somehow,
turned into animals.
They both may have turned into animals, in one way or another, but those ways are different. In The Rememberer, Ben first turns into an ape, but
then turns into a sea turtle, just to turn into a salamander. Whereas, in Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the only animal he is turned
into is a parrot. Another difference between the two circumstances is, Ben is going through reverse evolution, so he is turning into many different
animals, and the husband went through reincarnation after he fell out of the tree, so he will not change forms. Although, in The Rememberer,
both Annie and Ben know that he is still

Introduction:
There has always been tension raised between maintaining a safe society and observing by the constitutional rights of its citizens. The New York
City aggressive program of Stop and Frisk have been widely criticized and considered unconstitutional. However, Stop and Frisk, per se is not
unconstitutional unless people are being stopped illegally. It s a crime prevention tool that allows police officers to stop a person based on
reasonable suspicion of criminal activity and to conduct a frisk based on reasonable suspicion that the person is armed. Some argue this policy
was created to target minorities. Most of the people who have been stopped and frisked under this program have been African American or

Eugenics was widely considered a bad thing when the Nazi s in World War II were forcing innocent people to become sterile. However, in today

If people were asked on the street what do you know about eugenics they wouldn t have a valid response. The responses would be less

The Great Depression Through The Artist s Eyes
In 1929, the Western industrialized countries succumbed to a bleak period of time known as the Great Depression. This economic collapse,
which persisted for ten long years, was preempted by the stock market crash on Wall Street, buying on credit, supply and demand along with the
Dust Bowl of the Great Plains. During this economic state of crisis, the unemployment rate had risen from 3% to 25%, almost 13 million
Americans were jobless. Many people could not pay their rent or mortgages. People were evicted into the world of public assistance and forced
to wait in long breadlines for free food. Suicide reached an all time high. No nation could emerge from the cauldron of national crisis without
profound social and cultural change (Independence Hall Association). Artwork is an expression of a feeling or idea that an artist portrays. It s an
avenue of communicating a moment in time. This paper will analyze four pieces of artwork representing the Great Depression through the artist

The Treaty of Versailles required Germany to restore the Saar Basin to France. Subsequently, led to Germany s industries and citizens to

Doak Campbell Stadium. Due to its close proximity to the football stadium, the monument is most often associated with the game of football and
the traditions that are presented during each and every home game. Additionally, since the statue has been placed in front of Doak Campbell
Stadium, people only see it when they are going to football games or going to the stadium for any other particular reason. With an immense
height, no matter how overpopulated the stadium area becomes, it is practically impossible to not lay eyes on the monument while passing by,
which was most likely the purpose of its

The Role Of Corruption In Julius Caesar
At the end of the play, Julius Caesar, Antony refers to Brutus as the noblest of all. He really is what Antony calls him ironically: an honorable
man. Because honorable and honest people tend to suppose that others also live by their standards, he trusts Cassius and lets himself be
convinced that Caesar must die to preserve democratic rule in Rome. To him, the killing of his friend is a sad but necessary sacrifice, and his
well intentioned mistake destroys him. At the end, Antony says of him, This was the noblest Roman of them all. I don t disagree that he was
noble. I do, however think that Procia may have been the noblest of them all. Porcia was the daughter of Cato ad the wife of Marcus Junius
Brutus. She was considered to be kind

Verbal and Nonverbal Communication
Verbal and Nonverbal Communication
When we are attempting to transfer our meaning to another person, we use three different modes, methods, or channels to carry our intentions.
We use these modes to tell people who we are, how we experience the world, and the meaning we attach to our experience. We communicate
verbally and nonverbally, and often with mixed signals or noise.
When two persons, A and B, are attempting to communicate with each other, their communication is distorted by their personalities, attitudes,
values, belief systems, biases, the assumptions they are making about each other, their experience, background, and so on. A s communication to
B flows through A s screen and through B s screen. When B responds to A, B is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are a number of forms of body language. Ambulation is a first form. We associate different meanings to different ways people carry their
bodies from one place to another. How one carries her body, whether she glides, strides, stomps, etc. tells a great deal about who she is and how
she is experiencing her environment.
Touching is perhaps the most powerful nonverbal communication form. The skin is the body s largest organ, and through the skin we take in a
variety of stimuli. We can communicate anger, interest, trust, tenderness, warmth, and a variety of other emotions very potently through
touching. People differ, however, in their willingness to touch and be touched. Some people give out nonverbal body signals that say that they do
not want to be touched, and there are other people who describe themselves and are described by others as touchy feely. There are many taboos
associated with this form of communication. Persons can learn about their own personalities and self concepts through exploring their reactions
to touching and being touched.
Eye contact is a third form of nonverbal communication. We tend to size each other up in terms of trustworthiness through reactions to each
other s eye contact. Try a little experiment with yourself. Remember the last time you were driving down the road and passed a hitch hiker. The
odds are very high that you did not look him in the eye if you passed him up.

Pros And Cons Of Truck Drivers
The one thing that commercial or owner operator truckers dread the most is getting into an accident. Given the weight and size of a semi rig
compared to the average car, an accident can be very serious if not catastrophic. To make matters worse, even the most careful truck drivers aren
t guaranteed that they won t have an accident at some point in their careers. The reason is that any one of the motor vehicles on the road can do
something unexpected that leaves the truck driver with no way out.
However, one defense against this is learning how to read the intentions of other drivers. This gives you a heads up on the possible dangerous
maneuvers of the traffic around you. Here are three tips on how to do this:

The Photograph, Two Beds
The photograph, Two Beds, Two Windows taken by Jack Leigh is a silver gelatin print from 1981. In this era of color photography, a photograph
like this with black, white and grey hues is a novelty, especially for the younger generation. On first glance, the exhibit appears to be a simple
photograph of a cabin with two beds and two windows giving a view of a coastline and an ocean in the distance. Even then it does manage to
strike a chord and one can identify with The Conflict Within the human mind. It is a perfect metaphorical representation of the two sides of the
human mind. On seeing the photo for the first time one can conclude that it shows the interior of a bedroom in a cabin and that it is located on
the coast. The room has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whereas outside the windows, one can see some shrubbery followed by a coastline and an endless ocean stretching up to the horizon outside. Its
vastness is compelling. There are two beds inside the room. The bed to the left is covered with a ruffled bed sheet of indistinct and dull print. It
even has a pillow flung on top of it. The other is covered neatly with a bright bed sheet having a flower print design. Here the pillow is tucked
away beneath the sheet. Out of the two windows in the room, the one on the left has the shutter half way down and the one to the right has the
shutter wide open. But both windows are shut and at the top, light can be seen streaming in mainly through the unshuttered window. It helps
brighten, mostly the right side of the room. Windows and beds are separated by chasms of dark shadows. The walls are made of horizontal
planks of wood. Outside the window, one can see shrubs causing a barricade like appearance. This is followed by the coastline and the ocean
waves crashing against it. In the distance one can see the sky meeting the ocean at the horizon.
This photograph of a bedroom overlooking the coastline in grey hues immediately sets one in a reflective mood. The use of sharp lines and the
closed space in the cabin is strikingly similar to a closed human mind. The bedroom, a place of leisure and rest can be considered a
representation of the subconscious mind. Here one s

  • 2. Huron Community Reflection I found a quote about three years ago on a wall at my camp that has stuck with me ever since. Each one of us can make a difference. Together we make change. The quote is by an American politician by the name Barbara Mikulski and although I do not know what her personal beliefs are, personally this is a mantra I aspire to live by. • 3. Volcano s A Volcano Eruption By Cliff Montgomery Volcano How to Survive Them. When it comes to surviving, people will take whatever means are necessary to live just a little bit longer. An example of this could be a point in the movie Titanic. In order to survive the boat sinking, Rose rested on a piece of furniture that was drifting in the water. As a result, she was one of the few people to actually be alive and rescued when the boats came back. When it comes to survival, at that moment in time there is no rule book on what measure one can take to survive but a person should know the basics. Volcanoes are a good example of this. Volcano s: How to Survive a Volcano Eruption by Cliff Montgomery s article is effective because it acknowledges what is in a volcano, explain what to do when a volcano is erupting and provides knowledge about what to watch out for. Montgomery first starts out giving background information about places where volcano eruptions have occurred what the effects of those eruptions have done to the city and the people. Next, he goes into the workshop about how volcano s work and what is exactly inside of them that does so much harm. • 4. Evaluating The Best Educational Placement For Children... Every year as their children enter the educational system, many parents of children with special needs have to choose the best educational fit to maximize their children s long term success. I have been one of those parents. Raising a child with special needs comes with many challenges along the way, but the choice of setting in which a child with special needs obtains their education has a long lasting impact on a child s physical and emotional health. For this reason parents in collaboration with educators must weigh many factors to determine the best educational placement for children with special educational needs. Therefore, placement in an educational setting must take into consideration the setting that provides for the best interests of each particular child. Various educational options should continue to be available to students with special needs to ensure they are receiving the education that is most appropriate for their areas strengths and weaknesses. The current special education system determines the placement for these students in accordance with the recommendation of the child s educational team. This group is made up of parents, educators and administrators from the child s school district, as well as administrators from an alternative schooling option if applicable (Ohio Department of Education). The damage from the storm, flooding and the resulting loss of life and property was astounding. However, I lack the words to describe the economic impacts of such a disaster to the peoples of the Gulf Coast. As with all major catastrophic events, even with all the planning in the world it comes down to people helping people to survive. FEMA, the local and State Government, Emergency response/first responders, National Guard, and Private Corporate Assistance did what they could to mitigate the damage, however, the planning for such an event was (in hindsight) far too little and made the emergency even more dire. I see the responsibility for preparation for future hurricane/natural disasters can be divided into at least 4 parts: The Federal Government, State/Local officials, private corporations/industries, and personal responsibilities. Federal Government Continued training and emergency planning at various Federal agencies. Unfortunately, in the case of chaotic natural disasters, Human element (looters, gangs, violence) prior to Katrina may not have been fully part of the emergency response scenarios played out in simulations at a federal/private think tank. We will look at the consequences, both positive and negative, of Objectivism by examining 2K Boston s 2007 award winning game, Bioshock, and assessing how the fictional city of Rapture can be compared to a hypothetical model of 21st Century America should we choose to adopt the ideas and Socio Economic Theories that are explored at length within the game. Andrew Ryan s utopia has fallen into absolute disarray, which clearly demonstrates that Bioshock as a whole can be construed to be a criticism of the dangers of Objectivism and the step that logically follows it, Anarcho Capitalism. Now how this matters is not simply that a fictional city in a fictional game fell into anarchy and subsequently disarray as a result of this moral philosophy and socio economic system. What makes this a concern is that these ideas are becoming more and more accepted within modern society. There are continuous discussions regarding a number of things in today s society, such as Do Corporations have rights? and To what limit should Government be allowed to impose regulation on the Private Sector? which can accurately be assessed as being partially symptomatic of this increasingly prevalent line of thinking. Upton Sinclair wrote The Jungle as a criticism, not of the meatpacking industry as a whole, but of how the workers were treated.2 It is safe to assume that if we were to implement the line of thinking evident in Andrew Ryan s utopian Rapture, that we would undo over a century s worth of progress in regard to Workers Rights, Health Regulations, and a slew of other things which have only served to positively impact not only the quality of life, but the quantity of life, of Americans today. Everyone has challenges throughout their life, but people have strengths that can lead up to effect their future. With each challenge we overcome we become stronger and we find more strengths in our challenges. I am a great friend because I always care for my friends and i m their shoulder to cry on. Many stories have similar themes, The Rememberer by Aimee Bender and Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot by Robert Olen Butler are two short stories that do. In The Rememberer, Ben is going through reverse evolution and Annie and Ben both do not know why. It is implied that Ben remembers Annie, but not completely specified. In Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the husband falls out of a tree trying to catch his wife in the act of cheating and gets reincarnated into a parrot. He remembers her, but she does not know it is him and ends up choosing and purchasing him from the pet store, putting him back into his own home. Both stories have ironic tendencies and share a similar theme, but have different meanings. Throughout both stories, the characters are facing internal conflicts. In The Rememberer, Annie is dealing with Ben going through reverse evolution. She does not know why he is going through it or what to do about it, which results in her battling herself in her own mind. She cannot tell anyone what is going on because nobody would believe her, she is stuck telling people that he has a strange sickness and is forced to keep it all inside. In Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the husband is dealing with the internal conflict of being purchased by his wife and brought back into his home where now he is stuck seeing his wife with other men. The conflict comes in to play with the husband because he does not have the vocabulary as a parrot to tell her that it is him. Throughout the two stories, the men are both, somehow, turned into animals. They both may have turned into animals, in one way or another, but those ways are different. In The Rememberer, Ben first turns into an ape, but then turns into a sea turtle, just to turn into a salamander. Whereas, in Jealous Husband Returns in Form of Parrot, the only animal he is turned into is a parrot. Another difference between the two circumstances is, Ben is going through reverse evolution, so he is turning into many different animals, and the husband went through reincarnation after he fell out of the tree, so he will not change forms. How one carries her body, whether she glides, strides, stomps, etc. tells a great deal about who she is and how she is experiencing her environment. Touching is perhaps the most powerful nonverbal communication form. The skin is the body s largest organ, and through the skin we take in a variety of stimuli. We can communicate anger, interest, trust, tenderness, warmth, and a variety of other emotions very potently through touching. People differ, however, in their willingness to touch and be touched. Some people give out nonverbal body signals that say that they do not want to be touched, and there are other people who describe themselves and are described by others as touchy feely. There are many taboos associated with this form of communication. Persons can learn about their own personalities and self concepts through exploring their reactions to touching and being touched. Eye contact is a third form of nonverbal communication. We tend to size each other up in terms of trustworthiness through reactions to each other s eye contact. Try a little experiment with yourself. • 45. Pros And Cons Of Truck Drivers The one thing that commercial or owner operator truckers dread the most is getting into an accident. Given the weight and size of a semi rig compared to the average car, an accident can be very serious if not catastrophic. • 46. The Photograph, Two Beds The photograph, Two Beds, Two Windows taken by Jack Leigh is a silver gelatin print from 1981. In this era of color photography, a photograph like this with black, white and grey hues is a novelty, especially for the younger generation. On first glance, the exhibit appears to be a simple photograph of a cabin with two beds and two windows giving a view of a coastline and an ocean in the distance. Even then it does manage to strike a chord and one can identify with The Conflict Within the human mind. It is a perfect metaphorical representation of the two sides of the human mind. On seeing the photo for the first time one can conclude that it shows the interior of a bedroom in a cabin and that it is located on the coast. The room has ... Its vastness is compelling. There are two beds inside the room. The bed to the left is covered with a ruffled bed sheet of indistinct and dull print. It even has a pillow flung on top of it. The other is covered neatly with a bright bed sheet having a flower print design. Here the pillow is tucked away beneath the sheet. Out of the two windows in the room, the one on the left has the shutter half way down and the one to the right has the shutter wide open. But both windows are shut and at the top, light can be seen streaming in mainly through the unshuttered window. It helps brighten, mostly the right side of the room. Windows and beds are separated by chasms of dark shadows. The walls are made of horizontal planks of wood. Outside the window, one can see shrubs causing a barricade like appearance. This is followed by the coastline and the ocean waves crashing against it. In the distance one can see the sky meeting the ocean at the horizon. This photograph of a bedroom overlooking the coastline in grey hues immediately sets one in a reflective mood. The use of sharp lines and the closed space in the cabin is strikingly similar to a closed human mind. The bedroom, a place of leisure and rest can be considered a representation of the subconscious mind. Here one s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
