Transcendentalism In Movies Essay
Perhaps one of the most meaningful maxims Emerson wrote would have to be quot;Insist on yourself,
never imitate. quot; This statement captures the total essence of transcendentalism; deny the will and
aspirations of others, and follow your own heart. The movie Dead Poets Society begins by introducing
the viewers to Todd Anderson, a very subdued and quiet young man. Todd has the average inferiority
complex. He is a very bright young man with exceptional abilities. Todd is unwilling to speak his
mind for fear of non acceptance. Charles Dalton is a seemingly average student with a rebellious
attitude. He has already realized that the students are being quot;brainwashed quot; into living a
preordained life.

In an emotionally charged scene, Neil finds that he doesn t want to cope with a life that doesn t

psychiatrist giving therapy to a character played by Matt Damon. Damon s character, Will, is a math
genius who has severe social problems stemming from a traumatic childhood. Will knows his gift, but
is afraid to use it. He has finally found a peaceful life with his friends. He has a steady job, and life isn
t great, but it is livable. Will is afraid of risking security and chancing failure.
Will s friend, played by real life friend Ben Affleck, helps him choose between risking his security and
stepping out of his comfort zone and living a life where he can barely get by. Will realizes that the
benefits outweigh the negatives, and chooses to take a job at a huge accounting firm.In the movie
Patch Adams, Robin Williams plays a doctor with a keen perception of humanity. He focuses on the
plight of people who can t afford medical care. Throughout medical school and all of his private
practice, patch is ridiculed and mistreated for his beliefs and his unorthodox means of treatment. Even
through all this turmoil, Patch never succumbs to the wishes of others. He is always himself.

Connotation In Frankenstein
Mary Shelley wrote her first novel, Frankenstein, in 1818, using a mixture of gothic and romantic
conventions. Shelley depicts a complex relationship between a creator, Victor Frankenstein, and his
creation. While the romantic setting helps to characterize Frankenstein and his creation, the dark
gothic nature of the work helps to build suspense. While Frankenstein and his creation are talking for
the first time, their true emotions toward one another are revealed. Through the use of various literary
techniques, Shelley conveys the relationship between Victor Frankenstein and his creation as one
absorbed with deep hatred and misunderstanding established through assumptions. Throughout the
passage, the hatred Frankenstein and his creation have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, Frankenstein tells his creation that [he] could, with the extinction of [the creation s]
miserable existence, restore those victims whom [he has] so diabolically murdered! The negative
connotation of diabolically, which is associated with devils, illustrates how Frankenstein views his
creation. He makes an assumption about the creation murdering someone, while there is no evidence
of to support this accusation. Even more, Victory claims that the tortures of hell are too mild a
vengeance for thy crimes. Frankenstein continues to assume the creation is the one that committed
these crimes. He claims that even hell [is] too mild for these crimes. After this assumption, the
creation entreats [Victor] to hear [him], before [he] gives vent to [his] hatred on [the creation s]
devoted head. The assumptions made by Frankenstein and the hatred he has for his creation leads to
him misunderstanding the case the creation is attempting to create for himself. The creature begs for
Frankenstein to hear [him] before his assumption driven hatred and misconception comes down on
[the creation s] devoted head. Subsequently, the creation states that [he] was benevolent and good;
misery made [him] a fiend. Victor and every other human the creation has come in contact with make
presumptions about him that has destroyed any hint of benevolence still in him. The creature was
misunderstood, and for this reason, he is now miserable. In fact, the creation continues to plead for
Victor to listen to [him]; and then, if [Victor] can, and if [he] will, destroy the work of [his] hands. The
creation asks to be heard by his creator without any accusations, and then, if Victor believes that it is
necessary, he may destroy his own work. He uses destroy the work of [his]

Immigration Policies And Naturalization Laws During World...
During the years between 1882 and 2000, immigration and naturalization were always important
issues for the United States. The United States stance on its policies and laws towards immigrants and
their naturalization saw drastic changes during this time period, which reasons ranges from American
s experience with the immigrants and the nation s changing relationship with other countries. During
the beginning of the time period between 1882 and 2000, the United States took a restrictive approach
on its immigration policies and naturalization law, mainly because of American s fear of job
competition with the immigrants, and also because of their racism. However, the change in
relationships between United States and other nations during World War II marked the turning point of
the nation s approach on those policies and laws, where the United States slowly began to reopen its
door of immigration. And in the late 20th century, the United States continued its approach on open
immigration policies and naturalization laws that began during World War II due to the same reason,
but at the same time the nation also passed restrictive policies towards undocumented immigrants.
During the beginning of the time period between 1882 and 2000, the United States policies towards
immigration and naturalization became more and more restrictive due to American s fear of
competition with immigrants for jobs and their buildup of racism towards those immigrants. Chinese

Theme Of Freedom And Freedom In Persepolis
In an oppressive regime, a black cloud creeps over the country of Iran, the citizens inevitably
succumbing to their new confinement. Marjane Satrapi, author of the graphic novel Persepolis,
explores this recurring theme of captivity and freedom throughout her childhood in Iran. Satrapi
establishes a unified presence of captivity and freedom between Iranian citizens, the deceased,
political prisoners, and her own family members. (Add transitional sentence) Some may believe that
there may be no unity between Iranian citizens, the deceased, political prisoners and family members;
they may even state that there is no recurring theme of captivity or freedom. However, this is incorrect
because a major component of Persepolis is the history of Iran and the Iranian revolution, a crisis
where people fought for their freedom from the Shah s constrictive rule. Also, there are stories of
political prisoners dispersed throughout the book. Their stories share how their communist ideas
opposing the Shah s leadership led them to tortuous years in prison; days after the Shah fled, the
prisoners were liberated, embracing the arms of their loved ones almost immediately, only to have
themselves killed by police and committed to the imprisonment of death. Besides this example of
captivity with an interim freedom, there are prime examples within Persepolis that deliver the theme
of captivity and freedom, one of the most prominent being the veil worn by Iranian women.

A Short Story on a Child Who Was Born in the Village of...
Once upon a time, an effervescent baby boy was born in India on an auspicious day. He was born on
the same day as the birthday of the blue skinned, flute playing Krishna. Naming after the God, his
parents were overjoyed that such a healthy son was born to them on such a propitious occasion. The
mother, whose name was Monica, and the father, whose name was Rajesh, were mesmerized by the
luck they were granted with, and happily took their son home to their bungalow in the village of
Dwarka. The one story house consisted of a dubious foundation, however the residents were joyfully
acclimated to its homey vibe. It was of the traditional sort, somewhat of a doughnut shape, with an
open area in the middle of the dwelling, and pillars on the edges to hold up the weakening roof. Many
a time, as Krishna grew up, he would spend time with his parents in the... let us call it the doughnut
hole . They would swing on the jhoola and inhale the sweet , wafting scents of jasmine flowers that
blossomed in beautifully carved, clay pots that were stationed at every surrounding pillar of the
doughnut hole . Every so often, the warm scents befuddled everyone into a deep slumber as they lay
gazing at the stars many a night.
Monsoon after monsoon passed by, and soon enough Krishna had become a young educated man,
extremely bright, both in book smarts, from transcribing every lecture he had ever heard verbatim, and
street smarts, from having learned to bargain in the Indian markets. He had garnered

The Principles Of Convergence For Students
Conceptual Framework
A review of the research has allowed for a tentative conceptual framework consisting of six principles
of convergence for students. The first five principles are (1) Purpose (or meaning); (2) Ethics/values;
(3) Relationships with followers; (4) Interest in service; and (5) Spiritual self awareness. The sixth is
not a distinct characteristic as much as an underlying support for the other five, and an all
encompassing motivation for leadership: (6) love.
Having a purpose, or meaning, refers to the reason for engaging in leadership, and its end goals. It is
not an individual pursuit; rather, it encompasses a shared or socialized vision (HERI, 1996). Moreover,
purpose is not value neutral; it exists to bring about positive social change (Komives et al., 2007) or
continuous improvement (Fairholm, 1997). Purpose provides a motivation and a direction for
leadership. Closely related to this understanding of purpose is ethics.
Ethics can be loosely defined as doing the right thing. Leadership should support positive change
(Burns, 1978; HERI, 1996), seek the integrity of intention and action (Avolio Gardner, 2005), be
driven by values (Komives et al., 2007), and moral standards (Fairholm, 1997). A knowledge of ethics
roots leadership practice in a set of ground rules that includes honesty, fair practice, and a desire to
seek betterment and continuous improvement for followers.
The third area, relationships with followers, refers to the understanding that

Ex Machina Character Analysis
To begin, the film Ex Machina works with Al in an interesting way. The ultimate goal of the
protagonist, Caleb, is to judge whether the Al in the film, Ava, is capable of thought and
consciousness, as well as if he can actually relate to an Al. Nathan Al s appear advanced. For example,
Ave is able to tell whether Caleb is lying or not when she asks him questions. Additionally, she is able
to demonstrate intelligence by having Nathan fall for her. She knows exactly what to do and what to
say to make him sympathize with her. In the end, all she wanted was to escape, and it is shown that
she did not care about Caleb; she just wanted to manipulate him into aiding her escape. This

It appeared futuristic, but not too futuristic. For example, Nathan s building appear futuristic, due to
the AI s and advanced technology, but also appears modern, for example, the bathroom and bedroom.
The colors of the film were very clean and mostly were composed of white, red, and orange. For
example, whenever Ava turned off the cameras, the room would glow red. This can indicant trouble,
or warnings, which is what Ava was trying to give Caleb. The room Ava is locked up in has an orange
glow to it, which makes the room appear calm. Additionally, white in the film makes the film appear
futuristic. For example, the hallways appear white with lights, and Ava wears a white bodysuit, and
Kyoko wears a white dress. The editing of the film is not fast paced, which gives the audience a
chance to witness the relationship between an AI and human grow. It also gives the audience a chance
to see what humankind s ambition is and if it is actually a good ambition or a bad one. The framing
often shows the AI and humans in close quarters, which further strengthens the relationships that
happen between them. For example, the framing of the film always shows Ava and Caleb close to each
other, even if there is a glass separating them, which shows the audience their relationship

Imperialism caused more problems than progress due to the destabilization of existing African tribes
through unnecessary conflict caused by Europeans. In 1877, Sir Henry Frere decided that the only way

The Role Of Graphene On Technological Development Today
The role of graphene in technological development today and in the future
In recent years, the field of nanotechnology developed at a spectacular rate. Scientists argued that
substances behaved differently in a bigger (macro) level compared to a micro level. One of the major
growths of nanotechnology originated from a simple pencil lead; a humble pencil lead that breaks
easily with small amount of force. However, when we divide the pencil lead into just one atom thick,
suddenly its strength and conductivity behavior changes significantly. In fact, the material is recorded
for its amazing feat. It is recorded as the best electrical and thermal conductor in the world. Even

The first ever recorded history of graphene occurred in 1859 where Benjamin Brodie mixed graphite
with strong acids (Geim, 2012). He thought that he found a new allotrope (structure) of carbon.
However, we now know that instead of finding a new allotrope of carbon, he found graphene oxide
(Geim). In 1962, German chemist Hanns Peter Boehm picked up where Brodie left off and produced a
residue of graphene oxide which is now known as graphene. They then introduced the term graphene
for the first time in history. He gave the name graphene based on the combination of graphite, its raw
material, and the suffix ene to signify its aromatic hydrocarbon characteristics (Geim). However, it
was Andre Geim and Kostya Novoselov who made a big hit through their paper in graphene. These
scientists from Manchester University discovered graphene through an unorthodox method. In the
book Graphene: Fundamentals and emergent applications, Jamie H. Warner (2012) stated that how
these scientists used a scotch tape to discover graphene. They started off with graphite of a pencil, and
started removing layers after layers until they were left with a single layer of graphite called graphene.
For their ingenious yet simple technique, they were awarded the 2010 Nobel Prize in Physics for their
groundbreaking experiments regarding the two dimensional material graphene (Warner).
Before the discovery of graphene in real life, scientists were skeptical with the idea of a 2D carbon

Excellence in customer service is the objective of all organisations wishing to be successful. However,
there is often a gap between customer expectations and management perceptions of customer

expectations.
Other reasons for customer service problems include: * not listening to or collecting information from

Segmentation is usually done to understand the needs of customers more elaborately or distinctly.
When asking customers for their input or feedback, they need to feel as if their opinions matter, they
are more likely to continue supporting the organisation if they feel their feedback has been taken
seriously and into consideration. Listening to the customer and acting timely on their feedback is
important for the organisation, failing to understand a customer s needs can result in widespread
negative comments about the organisation and the loss of customers and potential customers.
By not listening to customers and understanding what they need from a product or service will not
allow the organisation to maintain its effectiveness in the market place, producing poor quality
products or service and effecting overall profitability for the organisation.
Each organisation needs to develop and establish procedures, standards and guidelines for customer
service requirements and communicate these to all staff.

Greed In The Fisherman And His Wife By The Grimm Brothers
Flaws such as greed become a sin when it starts to have an impact on others. Greed, rage, lust, anger,
sloth, pride, envy and gluttony are the 7 deadly sins and when taken to extremes, will affect others
making them a sin. Ever wonder when flaws such as greed become a sin? Greed can be related to
stealing, however these flaws are known as deadly sins when they start to affect others. The Fairytale,
The Fisherman and His Wife, by The Grimm Brothers that includes the deadly sin, greed. The authors
warn us that those who are greedy will never be satisfied. Seven bloodied hopes meaning someone is
always hoping for more and more, similarly to the fisherman s wife, who always wanted a new house.
The fisherman went finishing one day and caught a magic fish who was once a prince. He could grant
wishes if he was thrown back into the ocean. The fisherman was happy to return it until he told his
wife about the fish when he got home. Since he and his wife lived in a small pig sty she was furious

Essay On Rain Prediction
Fuzzy logic techniques for prediction of rainfall Rainfall is a stochastic process that depends on
temperature, humidity and winds. To obtain accurate rainfall prediction the above said factors should
be well maintained and controlled. For this purpose a number of methods have been proposed. Fuzzy
inference is used for mapping I/P and O/P sets with a set of fuzzy rules. Fuzzy inference is performed
in four steps fuzzification, rule evaluation, aggregation of rule outputs and then defuzzificztion. Fuzzy

Transitioning Into High School
The effect of choosing which high school a student will be attending will last longer than the four
years. The decision follows the student into college, continuing their habits set in high school. The
more basic question is whether they will attend a same sex or co ed school. The different types of high
schools do not only effect the 9 12th grade experience but effects the behavior of students
transitioning into college classrooms. This is a common debate in my house: whether it is helpful to
attend same sex high schools or not. My sister attended a same sex school and her college professor
noticed before she could tell him. Because of her active participation and constant hand raising, her
teacher asked if she attended a single sex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It took me a few years of high school to be comfortable raising my hand in class. I was too scared to
ask something dumb, or answer a question wrong that I found myself and other girls asking each other

schools find it necessary to have a talk to males about how to treat female classmates and how to
behave themselves while also teachings girls how to properly treat their make classmates. Single sex
schools communicate more on how to handle the drama that may occur when putting same sex
students together. Transitioning from high school to college is a complex process for students from all
schools. It s complexity is rooted not only in choosing the gender of the school but rather the size,
environment, distance and other factors that go into determining where these new adults will go for
their next four years. Although the college atmosphere is a new feel for all incoming freshmen, the
habits and behavior students learn from high school tend to stick with them when they enter classes at
universities. The effect of going to a same sex high school can show differently in all students at the
start of college. The same goes for co ed graduating

The Fall Of Icarus Poem Analysis
If I Knew What I Knew Then is an oil painting created by Maggie Newman in 1997. It has the
beautiful qualities of an impressionistic painting, and gives the audience a Dionysus style experience.
Meanwhile, The Fall of Icarus is an aesthetic, bronze sculpture with Greek mythological background,
and Hellenistic characteristics. Both artists present their own unique style of art, and raise multiple
diverse questions from the audience in their work. The Fall of Icarus by Abraham Rattner can be
described as Hellenistic art because of its illustrations of agony, and the death of Icarus, from Greek
mythology. Icarus wings melted while flying in front of the sun, which resulted in him plummeting to
his death. The Fall of Icarus is an incredibly detailed, bronze statue of Icarus wings melting in flight.
The bronze sun has golden rays illuminating from the sides, Icarus is presented as a dark, burnt figure
slowly melting against the burning sun. If I Knew What I Knew Then by Maggie Newman can be
depicted as a Impressionism because of its small, yet recognizable brush strokes, and manipulation of
light and colors. The painting is of a young women with a look of concern, and looks as if she is
staring at something behind the audience. Standing behind her is an ominous shadow shadow
composed of multiple colors. In front of her is an outline of a women on her knees in agony, as if it is
the women s inner feelings. The Fall of Icarus was created in 1950, and is based on the story of Icarus
in Greek Mythology. According to the stories, Icarus and his father were trapped in the massive
labyrinth. In order to escape, Icarus and his father created wings of feathers and wax, and strapped
them to
Icarus. Foolishly, Icarus flew too closely to the sun and his wings melted, causing him to plummet to
his death. In the early 2000 s, the sculpture was treated with bronzed disease. Bronzed disease is when
the sculpture begins to deteriorate and a white powder forms. The sculpture was successfully restored
and is on display in the Leepa Rattner Museum. If I Knew What I Knew Then creates a Dionysus

Energy Of Renewable Energy Sources Essay
In recent years many endeavors have been devoted to reduce the pollutant energy generation by
increasing the utilization of clean energy sources. Actually, the power sector is responsible for roughly
a quarter of anthropogenic CO2 emissions [1]. Thus, the widespread introduction of renewable energy
sources is seen to be one of the major solutions. Meanwhile, fossil fuel based power plants will still be
needed. In any case, fully abstaining from the use of fossil fuels is difficult. Nevertheless, fossil fuel
resources are ultimately finite and the goal should be to shift to renewable energy sources gradually.
Due to its effective role in clean energy generation, microgrid structure is increasingly utilized in
power systems, nowadays [2]. Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) and Renewable Energy Sources
(RESs) as environment friendly sources of energy are the key players to this goal [3].
Microgrid as an aggregator manages power scheduling of DERs and RESs to serve sustainably and
reliably through energy management system (EMS) [4], [5]. Employing EMS, microgrid not only
alleviates undesirable impacts of intermittencies pertained to RESs, DERs and load, but also provides
secure energy services according to smart grid provisional objectives [6],[7]. EMS is in charge of
synchronization with the main grid, voltage and frequency control through power balancing and
preserving secure operational margins [8],[9],[10],[11],[12]. Microgrids usually experience power

Effects Of The On Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
During 1720 1750, there was a limited amount of control on the production and selling of gin in
England due to Parliament. This resulted in an increase in alcohol intake. During this period, fetal and
infant death rates were at it highest [1]. The medical society did not believe consumption of alcohol
was the cause of the high rise in birth defects at the time. With the repeal of the prohibition on alcohol
in 1933, doctors believed it had beneficial effects to the point of intravenous treatments with alcohol
were used to delay preterm labor. In the 1950s to 1960s, there was another rise in fetal birth defects
called the thalidomide scare . Thalidomide was used to relieve morning sickness experienced during
pregnancy. This scare caused scientists to realize that certain types of drugs given during pregnancy,
affected the development of the fetus. It wasn t until 1973, when two pediatricians, David Smith and
Kenneth Jones, whom specialized in dysmorphology, the study of abnormalities present at birth,
published their article on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. In their study, they examined eight children to
determine what caused their developmental impediments. These children were characterized with
growth deficiencies, microcephaly, and impaired cognitive development. All their mothers were
alcoholics, which resulted in Smith and Jones to believe alcohol was causing defects in the offspring
[2]. Many discoveries have been made since 1973 that involve fetal exposure to alcohol,

and dismissed for over fifty years in public personnel management. Although legal challenges have
been filed, pay for performance emerges as the new model for federal human resources pay practice
and the cornerstone of federal public management strategy (p. 3). Nevertheless, beyond the legal
challenges involved, there are a number of constraints to the implementation and execution of such
initiatives that can make or break their success. This point is made by Kellough and Nigro who report
that a pay for performance initiative in the State of Georgia known as GeorgiaGain has been viewed
by many state employees as inherently unfair and wracked by favoritism despite the enormous amount
of resources devoted to the program s design and implementation (p. 447). Likewise, in his analysis of

Date: Electric Field and Electric Potential
Abstract
The purpose of this lab exercise was to map out electric potential (v) around electrodes in a water
bath. This was done by measuring the voltage drop between one fixed location and a large number of
various locations in the water. Afterwards, the associated field was calculated. The electric field
strength E, was calculated from a map of the electric potentials by taking the potential difference
between two closely spaced points on either side of the point of interest and dividing it by the distance
between two closely spaced points.
Experimental Procedure: This experiment was accomplished in two parts. In part ... Show more

From the data recorded, the equipotential lines did not cross each other since each of the equipotential
line was assigned a specific value of electric field. From this experiment, it is evident that the RMS
voltage inside the ring decreased with an increase in distance of separation. This suggests that, the
electric field inside the ring was not the same in all points. It was also noted from the graphs that the
proportionality that existed between the electric field, E, and 1/r was consistent with the linear
dependence of electric potential with ln (r) since both of them increased with an increase in electric
field. In addition, both were characterized by a positive gradient. Similarly, the electric field lines
drawn were perpendicular to the equipotential lines, the reason being that the electric potential is
equivalent to the electric field multiplied by the distance. The two point probe was used to measure the
electric field in this lab since it is capable of measuring low frequency electric fields. As a result, the
measurements were considered accurate. The difference in the calculated value of the charge per unit
length λ, for both the graphs of 1n(r) versus voltage and the graph of 1/r versus the electric field, was
small (insignificant), i.e. 0.04592 and 0.03287 respectively. Further, the percentage

Calling upon pathos, Queen Elizabeth proves her loyalty to her subjects by telling them I am come
amongst you, as you see, at this time, not for my recreation and disport, but being resolved, in the
midst and heat of the battle, to live and die amongst you all. But would the queen really fight beside
her nation? Of course not, England could not risk the catastrophic terror the death of a monarch would
bring. But her statement certainly serves its purpose, as it gives relatability.
Queen Elizabeth uses pathos again for a third time by using her gender as a crutch for weakness.
Falsely letting the public know that she would gladly fight alongside them, the Queen negates the
previous statement by dictating, I know I have the body but of a weak and feeble woman. Although
this statement could be looked upon negatively by a woman, it served the purpose of inspiring
empathy within the hearts of the soldiers being

Similarities And Differences Between The Schools Of...
Buddhism is a missionary religion that begins in ancient India and spreads to eastern and south eastern
regions of Asia. After the death of Siddhartha Gautama, since the teachings were done and passed
around orally, there was no official record of the Buddha s teaching. Hence, this led to collisions of
principles and resulted in various divisions of Buddhism. However, there are two dominant divisions
of Buddhism that still exist until today: Theravada and Mahayana. While Theravada strand, which is
also known as the southern school of Buddhism, expands toward the south eastern region of Asia such
as Sri Lanka, Thailand, Laos... The Mahayana strand, which is also known as the northern school of
Buddhism, spreads across the eastern region of Asia such as China, Vietnam, Japan... Thus, in this
essay, I focus and discuss the similarities and differences between the schools of Theravada and
Mahayana.
Despite being two different schools of Buddhism, both Theravada and Mahayana strands were once a
single entity. Therefore, they do have some overlapping principles, which are the core values of
Buddhism. First of all, both strands uphold the Triratna, which is also regarded as the three jewels or
refuges of Buddhism : buddha, dharma and sangha. Buddha refers to the fully enlightened one.
Dharma refers to the teachings of the Buddha. Sangha is the monastic order of Buddhism. Secondly,
Buddhists from both schools listen and uphold the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path, the Three

To His Coy Mistress Rhetorical Analysis
In the 1600 s when Andrew Marvell was alive, the estimated life expectancy was a lot shorter than it is
in the present. Marvell s poem To His Coy Mistress is a dramatic monologue about not having enough
time in his life to enjoy his mistress. Even if he lived a longer life there would never be enough time.
The poem as a whole consists of forty six lines and is filled with imagery. The images that are invoked
by the narrator are in no way ordinary in their description. They rouse compelling feelings of yearning
and want. It also brings a persuasive feeling to the table. The persuasiveness would not be as affective
without the superb work of imagery used by Andrew Marvell. The first two lines of the poem Had we
but world enough, and time,/ This coyness, lady, were no crime allows the reader to see into the mind
of the narrator for a brief moment. He thinks he is the victim of the Lady s reserved nature. He wants
to persuade her to have sex with him while using reverse psychology to prompt her to think it is her
own fault for not doing it in the first place. Instead of using phrases that give images of ... Show more

The imagery in these lines goes to the narrator and mistress primal instincts and how they should act
on those. The word amorous means a person is more inclined to sexual love. It is in this line that we
really see the lust the narrator has for the mistress. He just doesn t understand that this woman will not
give up her virginity for him even though her time is running out. They should not hold back the
emotion between them while they have the time to do so. At every pore with instant fires,/ Now let us
sport us while we may (36 37) this lines imagery refers back to the dust and ashes in the second
stanza. The question arises that the fire burning within them could ultimately lead to the death of both
the narrator and mistress in the

Dog In Harlem
The story I am analysing is The Baddest Dog in Harlem. It was written by Walter Dean Myers. The
story starts with some guys talking about who is the best fighter ever. Their conversation was cut short
by the police. The police looked after a guy with an automatic riffle. Then one of the police officer
slides and his pistol fired a bullet when he touched the ground. That starts a gunfire and as a result of
that a dog and a kid were killed.
The place where the story takes place is 145th street in Harlem. Harlem is a neighbourhood in New
York. The people in Harlem is very poor and half of them don t even have a job. There is also very
much criminality in the neighbourhood. As we can read on page 18 line 14 One thing about 145th
street. Half ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The man was killed by the police because they thought he pulled a gun, but he did not pull a gun
instead he took his wallet out of his pocket. In The Baddest Dog in Harlem there is also an innocent
kid there got shot because he wanted to see the reason for all the police and shots. Another parallel
there can be drawn is where Springsteen sings Lena gets her son ready for school; She says on these
streets, Charles; You ve got to understand the rules.; If an officer stops you,; Promise me you ll always
be polite,; That you ll never ever run away; Promise Mama you ll keep your hands in sight and the
part from The Baddest Dog in Harlem where the main character puts on his innocent face are equal
because they are both about not making anything a police officer can misinterpret and therefore
pulling his

ABSTRACT
I thought it would be fun to fling things like raw eggs and rocks with a catapult. Guess
what, it was! By flinging these items I tried to find out if heavier things would travel farther than
lighter ones. Basically how force effects motion.
With the catapult as the force, I sent items soaring, after weighing them, and then
recorded how far the items travelled. This showed me how Newtons Three Laws of Motion
work.

Collect items around the house.
2. Assign the items letters.
3. Weigh the items on a scale and record the results.
4. Measure out 40 feet in the yard with tape measure
5. Spray paint lines for each foot.
6. Conduct experiment with catapult pulled back to 180 degrees. (All the way back)
7. Record the results in log book.
8. Conduct experiment a second time with catapult pulled back to 90 degrees. (Half way back)
9. Record results of second experiment in log book.
Variables
My dependant variables are the amount of force which is shown by how far I pull back
the arm on the catapult. My independant variables are the items and their different weights
which represent mass/weight..
My experiment shows how my independant variables are effected by my depentant
variables as to force and motion.

The US Patriot Act
Introduction Americans have always held the rights and liberties close to their hearts. Ever since we
became an independent nation. After the tragic events that happened on September 11th, 2001,
Citizens of America began to ponder if some of their rights and liberties should be sacrificed to
prevent such an attack in the future. National unity took over the country and Americans bonded and
held each other up. They stood up in the face of terrorism and the Presidents approval rating soared
through the roof (from 54% to nearly a whooping 86% which is the highest level it has ever been).
Sadly, the American public rallied behind the Government and provided support for an Act that will
come to violate their freedoms that they cherish so much. Congress drafted the US Patriot Act in only
45 days (which leads some to believe that it was already pre made and was just a combination of a
wish list that the FBI had and was waiting for the right time to implement). Still filled with a sense of
national pride and deeply scarred by the terrorist attacks which occurred on September 11th, 2001,
americans accepted the Act to blatantly avoid being labeled unpatriotic in the eyes of their peers and
government. Still, in the face of being labeled unpatriotic , many thousands of open minded
individuals who saw what this Act could in the future openly question the Government though their
cries where heard by mute ears. When the House sent the US Patriot Act to the Senate for approval in

Financial Incentives For Improving Quality Of Care
In the early 2000s, serious deficiencies in quality health care had been highlighted by the Institute of
Medicine (James, 2012). Recently, the use of financial incentives to reward for improving quality of
care is a growing interest for many. Pay for performance programs provide bonuses to health care
providers for meeting or exceeding quality measures. However, physicians in the United States have
traditionally been paid for quantity versus quality of care (Blum, 2011). Utilizing incentive models,
such as patient centered medical home, pay for performance, and the fee for service payments are the
most commonly used programs. Incentive programs may also reward on improvements that occur
over time, such as year to year decreases in hospital readmission rates or decreasing hemoglobin A1c
values in diabetic patients (Blum, 2011). Hospital can incur financial penalties under the Medicare
guidelines for individuals who acquire certain preventable conditions during their hospital stay, such
as urinary tract infections from use of catheters and pressure ulcers. However, there is insufficient
evidence to support whether or not financial incentives improve quality of primary health care. In
addition, it is unclear whether financial incentives could potentially cause harm as they only
incentivize based on certain health indicators. Therefore, physicians may spend more time focusing on
meeting those indicators while paying less attention to other important issues

Financial Statement Analysis Of Jet Blue Airways...
Financial Statement Analysis Jet Blue Airways Corporation (JBLU)
Summary of the Company
Jet Blue Airways Corporation, a passenger transportation company that provides 93 destinations in 28
states in the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the U.S.
Virgin Islands, and 19 countries in the Caribbean and Latin America (Yahoo Finance). Jet Blue
Airways Corporation is based in Long Island City, New York.
Financial Ratio Analysis
After computing the current ratio of Jet Blue Airways, there was a decrease from 2014 of 0.62 to 0.60
in 2015. This was a result of an increase of current liabilities that superseded the increase of current
assets. The decrease in ratio between the respective years denote the inability for the company to pay
off its most recent debts within a short period of time. Jet Blue current ratio falls extremely below the
average among the airline industry of 0.81 (CSI Market). In 2015, Jet Blue Airways acid test ratio
showed a slight increase to 0.45 from its former 0.44 rate in 2014. Consequently, the company s
increased ability to pay off its debt with its most recent assets. Combined the acid test ratio and the
current ratio, shows that the even though Jet Blue had a decrease in the current ratio, is had a much
higher immediate liquidity status due to the fact of a 52% increase in short term investments. In
addition, Jet Blue Airways experienced a 9% increase from 43.7 to 47.2 in its ability to convert its
receivables

  • 3. Connotation In Frankenstein Mary Shelley wrote her first novel, Frankenstein, in 1818, using a mixture of gothic and romantic conventions. Shelley depicts a complex relationship between a creator, Victor Frankenstein, and his creation. While the romantic setting helps to characterize Frankenstein and his creation, the dark gothic nature of the work helps to build suspense. While Frankenstein and his creation are talking for the first time, their true emotions toward one another are revealed. The United States stance on its policies and laws towards immigrants and their naturalization saw drastic changes during this time period, which reasons ranges from American s experience with the immigrants and the nation s changing relationship with other countries. During the beginning of the time period between 1882 and 2000, the United States took a restrictive approach on its immigration policies and naturalization law, mainly because of American s fear of job competition with the immigrants, and also because of their racism. However, the change in relationships between United States and other nations during World War II marked the turning point of the nation s approach on those policies and laws, where the United States slowly began to reopen its door of immigration. And in the late 20th century, the United States continued its approach on open immigration policies and naturalization laws that began during World War II due to the same reason, but at the same time the nation also passed restrictive policies towards undocumented immigrants. • 7. Theme Of Freedom And Freedom In Persepolis In an oppressive regime, a black cloud creeps over the country of Iran, the citizens inevitably succumbing to their new confinement. Marjane Satrapi, author of the graphic novel Persepolis, explores this recurring theme of captivity and freedom throughout her childhood in Iran. Satrapi establishes a unified presence of captivity and freedom between Iranian citizens, the deceased, political prisoners, and her own family members. (Add transitional sentence) Some may believe that there may be no unity between Iranian citizens, the deceased, political prisoners and family members; they may even state that there is no recurring theme of captivity or freedom. However, this is incorrect because a major component of Persepolis is the history of Iran and the Iranian revolution, a crisis where people fought for their freedom from the Shah s constrictive rule. Also, there are stories of political prisoners dispersed throughout the book. Their stories share how their communist ideas opposing the Shah s leadership led them to tortuous years in prison; days after the Shah fled, the prisoners were liberated, embracing the arms of their loved ones almost immediately, only to have themselves killed by police and committed to the imprisonment of death. Besides this example of captivity with an interim freedom, there are prime examples within Persepolis that deliver the theme of captivity and freedom, one of the most prominent being the veil worn by Iranian women. • 10. The Principles Of Convergence For Students Conceptual Framework A review of the research has allowed for a tentative conceptual framework consisting of six principles of convergence for students. The first five principles are (1) Purpose (or meaning); (2) Ethics/values; (3) Relationships with followers; (4) Interest in service; and (5) Spiritual self awareness. The sixth is not a distinct characteristic as much as an underlying support for the other five, and an all encompassing motivation for leadership: (6) love. Having a purpose, or meaning, refers to the reason for engaging in leadership, and its end goals. It is not an individual pursuit; rather, it encompasses a shared or socialized vision (HERI, 1996). Moreover, purpose is not value neutral; it exists to bring about positive social change (Komives et al., 2007) or continuous improvement (Fairholm, 1997). Purpose provides a motivation and a direction for leadership. Closely related to this understanding of purpose is ethics. Ethics can be loosely defined as doing the right thing. Leadership should support positive change (Burns, 1978; HERI, 1996), seek the integrity of intention and action (Avolio Gardner, 2005), be driven by values (Komives et al., 2007), and moral standards (Fairholm, 1997). A knowledge of ethics roots leadership practice in a set of ground rules that includes honesty, fair practice, and a desire to seek betterment and continuous improvement for followers. The third area, relationships with followers, refers to the understanding that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1962, German chemist Hanns Peter Boehm picked up where Brodie left off and produced a residue of graphene oxide which is now known as graphene. They then introduced the term graphene for the first time in history. He gave the name graphene based on the combination of graphite, its raw material, and the suffix ene to signify its aromatic hydrocarbon characteristics (Geim). Meanwhile, The Fall of Icarus is an aesthetic, bronze sculpture with Greek mythological background, and Hellenistic characteristics. Both artists present their own unique style of art, and raise multiple diverse questions from the audience in their work. The Fall of Icarus by Abraham Rattner can be described as Hellenistic art because of its illustrations of agony, and the death of Icarus, from Greek mythology. Icarus wings melted while flying in front of the sun, which resulted in him plummeting to his death. The Fall of Icarus is an incredibly detailed, bronze statue of Icarus wings melting in flight. The bronze sun has golden rays illuminating from the sides, Icarus is presented as a dark, burnt figure slowly melting against the burning sun. If I Knew What I Knew Then by Maggie Newman can be depicted as a Impressionism because of its small, yet recognizable brush strokes, and manipulation of light and colors. Actually, the power sector is responsible for roughly a quarter of anthropogenic CO2 emissions [1]. Thus, the widespread introduction of renewable energy sources is seen to be one of the major solutions. Meanwhile, fossil fuel based power plants will still be needed. In any case, fully abstaining from the use of fossil fuels is difficult. Nevertheless, fossil fuel resources are ultimately finite and the goal should be to shift to renewable energy sources gradually. Due to its effective role in clean energy generation, microgrid structure is increasingly utilized in power systems, nowadays [2]. Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) and Renewable Energy Sources (RESs) as environment friendly sources of energy are the key players to this goal [3]. Microgrid as an aggregator manages power scheduling of DERs and RESs to serve sustainably and reliably through energy management system (EMS) [4], [5]. Employing EMS, microgrid not only alleviates undesirable impacts of intermittencies pertained to RESs, DERs and load, but also provides secure energy services according to smart grid provisional objectives [6],[7]. This resulted in an increase in alcohol intake. During this period, fetal and infant death rates were at it highest [1]. The medical society did not believe consumption of alcohol was the cause of the high rise in birth defects at the time. With the repeal of the prohibition on alcohol in 1933, doctors believed it had beneficial effects to the point of intravenous treatments with alcohol were used to delay preterm labor. In the 1950s to 1960s, there was another rise in fetal birth defects called the thalidomide scare . Thalidomide was used to relieve morning sickness experienced during pregnancy. This scare caused scientists to realize that certain types of drugs given during pregnancy, affected the development of the fetus. It wasn t until 1973, when two pediatricians, David Smith and Kenneth Jones, whom specialized in dysmorphology, the study of abnormalities present at birth, published their article on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. In their study, they examined eight children to determine what caused their developmental impediments. These children were characterized with growth deficiencies, microcephaly, and impaired cognitive development. From the data recorded, the equipotential lines did not cross each other since each of the equipotential line was assigned a specific value of electric field. From this experiment, it is evident that the RMS voltage inside the ring decreased with an increase in distance of separation. This suggests that, the electric field inside the ring was not the same in all points. It was also noted from the graphs that the proportionality that existed between the electric field, E, and 1/r was consistent with the linear dependence of electric potential with ln (r) since both of them increased with an increase in electric field. In addition, both were characterized by a positive gradient. Similarly, the electric field lines drawn were perpendicular to the equipotential lines, the reason being that the electric potential is equivalent to the electric field multiplied by the distance. The two point probe was used to measure the electric field in this lab since it is capable of measuring low frequency electric fields. As a result, the measurements were considered accurate. The difference in the calculated value of the charge per unit length λ, for both the graphs of 1n(r) versus voltage and the graph of 1/r versus the electric field, was small (insignificant), i.e. 0.04592 and 0.03287 respectively. I need to pretend that I don t know the comet was a fake until I uncover why humans from the future sent holograms to trap us here. I need to understand their motive to know my next move. I need to wait. I need to find my friends first. Waiting is the absolute worst. Standing last in a crowd of loud lines, I examine myself to see if my clothes are ruined, my skin shrunken or decayed, my hair burnt off. Same fleece lined hooded coat, short black boots, jeans. My curly, long hair not singed away. The silver heart ring from Dominick and the charm bracelet from Rita, reminders of my 18th birthday only months ago. My fingernails painted with the color Meet Me on the Star Ferry, chipped by me peeling them as usual. When I chose that color, I imagined reuniting with Dominick on another planet, that it would be romantic even if the Earth had been destroyed in an apocalypse. How sick is ... • 39. Rhetorical Appeal Of Queen Elizabeth To The Troops At Tilbury The rhetorical appeal of Queen Elizabeth to the troops at Tilbury has been renowned as one of the most persuasive speeches of our day. Using ethos, pathos, logos, and even deception, Queen Elizabeth captures the hearts of her contingent and all of England. When an expected invasion of England by the Spanish Armada was imminent, Queen Elizabeth realized that the only way that the kingdom could become triumphant was to rally her people to stand with her to repel their enemies. Queen Elizabeth begins her speech by addressing her people, beginning with My loving people. Although many citizens of England disliked the Queen, she addressed them as though the nation adored her, giving the illusion of unity. Continuing on, Elizabeth inspires pathos ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By using her subject s faith in God, and the current law of divine leadership, Elizabeth I sets in stone her reputation. If God chose her to be the Queen of England, then she must be a qualified leader. Who would dare defy a decision ordained by God himself? Calling upon pathos, Queen Elizabeth proves her loyalty to her subjects by telling them I am come amongst you, as you see, at this time, not for my recreation and disport, but being resolved, in the midst and heat of the battle, to live and die amongst you all. But would the queen really fight beside her nation? Of course not, England could not risk the catastrophic terror the death of a monarch would bring. But her statement certainly serves its purpose, as it gives relatability. Queen Elizabeth uses pathos again for a third time by using her gender as a crutch for weakness. Falsely letting the public know that she would gladly fight alongside them, the Queen negates the previous statement by dictating, I know I have the body but of a weak and feeble woman. Although this statement could be looked upon negatively by a woman, it served the purpose of inspiring empathy within the hearts of the soldiers being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Similarities And Differences Between The Schools Of... Buddhism is a missionary religion that begins in ancient India and spreads to eastern and south eastern regions of Asia. After the death of Siddhartha Gautama, since the teachings were done and passed around orally, there was no official record of the Buddha s teaching. Hence, this led to collisions of principles and resulted in various divisions of Buddhism. However, there are two dominant divisions of Buddhism that still exist until today: Theravada and Mahayana. While Theravada strand, which is also known as the southern school of Buddhism, expands toward the south eastern region of Asia such as Sri Lanka, Thailand, Laos... The Mahayana strand, which is also known as the northern school of Buddhism, spreads across the eastern region of Asia such as China, Vietnam, Japan... Thus, in this essay, I focus and discuss the similarities and differences between the schools of Theravada and Mahayana. Despite being two different schools of Buddhism, both Theravada and Mahayana strands were once a single entity. Therefore, they do have some overlapping principles, which are the core values of Buddhism. First of all, both strands uphold the Triratna, which is also regarded as the three jewels or refuges of Buddhism : buddha, dharma and sangha. Buddha refers to the fully enlightened one. Dharma refers to the teachings of the Buddha. Sangha is the monastic order of Buddhism. Secondly, Buddhists from both schools listen and uphold the Four Noble Truths, the Eightfold Path, the Three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. To His Coy Mistress Rhetorical Analysis In the 1600 s when Andrew Marvell was alive, the estimated life expectancy was a lot shorter than it is in the present. Marvell s poem To His Coy Mistress is a dramatic monologue about not having enough time in his life to enjoy his mistress. Even if he lived a longer life there would never be enough time. The poem as a whole consists of forty six lines and is filled with imagery. The images that are invoked by the narrator are in no way ordinary in their description. They rouse compelling feelings of yearning and want. It also brings a persuasive feeling to the table. The persuasiveness would not be as affective without the superb work of imagery used by Andrew Marvell. The first two lines of the poem Had we but world enough, and time,/ This coyness, lady, were no crime allows the reader to see into the mind of the narrator for a brief moment. He thinks he is the victim of the Lady s reserved nature. He wants to persuade her to have sex with him while using reverse psychology to prompt her to think it is her own fault for not doing it in the first place. Instead of using phrases that give images of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The imagery in these lines goes to the narrator and mistress primal instincts and how they should act on those. The word amorous means a person is more inclined to sexual love. It is in this line that we really see the lust the narrator has for the mistress. He just doesn t understand that this woman will not give up her virginity for him even though her time is running out. They should not hold back the emotion between them while they have the time to do so. At every pore with instant fires,/ Now let us sport us while we may (36 37) this lines imagery refers back to the dust and ashes in the second stanza. The question arises that the fire burning within them could ultimately lead to the death of both the narrator and mistress in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Dog In Harlem The story I am analysing is The Baddest Dog in Harlem. It was written by Walter Dean Myers. The story starts with some guys talking about who is the best fighter ever. Their conversation was cut short by the police. The police looked after a guy with an automatic riffle. Then one of the police officer slides and his pistol fired a bullet when he touched the ground. That starts a gunfire and as a result of that a dog and a kid were killed. The place where the story takes place is 145th street in Harlem. Harlem is a neighbourhood in New York. The people in Harlem is very poor and half of them don t even have a job. There is also very much criminality in the neighbourhood. As we can read on page 18 line 14 One thing about 145th street. In The Baddest Dog in Harlem there is also an innocent kid there got shot because he wanted to see the reason for all the police and shots. Another parallel there can be drawn is where Springsteen sings Lena gets her son ready for school; She says on these streets, Charles; You ve got to understand the rules.; If an officer stops you,; Promise me you ll always be polite,; That you ll never ever run away; Promise Mama you ll keep your hands in sight and the part from The Baddest Dog in Harlem where the main character puts on his innocent face are equal because they are both about not making anything a police officer can misinterpret and therefore pulling his ... By flinging these items I tried to find out if heavier things would travel farther than lighter ones. Basically how force effects motion. With the catapult as the force, I sent items soaring, after weighing them, and then recorded how far the items travelled. This showed me how Newtons Three Laws of Motion

  • 45. The US Patriot Act Introduction Americans have always held the rights and liberties close to their hearts. Ever since we became an independent nation. After the tragic events that happened on September 11th, 2001, Citizens of America began to ponder if some of their rights and liberties should be sacrificed to prevent such an attack in the future. National unity took over the country and Americans bonded and held each other up. They stood up in the face of terrorism and the Presidents approval rating soared through the roof (from 54% to nearly a whooping 86% which is the highest level it has ever been). Sadly, the American public rallied behind the Government and provided support for an Act that will come to violate their freedoms that they cherish so much. Congress drafted the US Patriot Act in only 45 days (which leads some to believe that it was already pre made and was just a combination of a wish list that the FBI had and was waiting for the right time to implement). Still filled with a sense of national pride and deeply scarred by the terrorist attacks which occurred on September 11th, 2001, americans accepted the Act to blatantly avoid being labeled unpatriotic in the eyes of their peers and government. Still, in the face of being labeled unpatriotic , many thousands of open minded individuals who saw what this Act could in the future openly question the Government though their cries where heard by mute ears. When the House sent the US Patriot Act to the Senate for approval in 2001, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Financial Incentives For Improving Quality Of Care In the early 2000s, serious deficiencies in quality health care had been highlighted by the Institute of Medicine (James, 2012). Recently, the use of financial incentives to reward for improving quality of care is a growing interest for many. Pay for performance programs provide bonuses to health care providers for meeting or exceeding quality measures. However, physicians in the United States have traditionally been paid for quantity versus quality of care (Blum, 2011). Utilizing incentive models, such as patient centered medical home, pay for performance, and the fee for service payments are the most commonly used programs. Incentive programs may also reward on improvements that occur over time, such as year to year decreases in hospital readmission rates or decreasing hemoglobin A1c values in diabetic patients (Blum, 2011). Hospital can incur financial penalties under the Medicare guidelines for individuals who acquire certain preventable conditions during their hospital stay, such as urinary tract infections from use of catheters and pressure ulcers. However, there is insufficient evidence to support whether or not financial incentives improve quality of primary health care. In addition, it is unclear whether financial incentives could potentially cause harm as they only incentivize based on certain health indicators. Therefore, physicians may spend more time focusing on meeting those indicators while paying less attention to other important issues ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
