The Marine Mammal Protection Act Essay
The Marine Mammal Protection Act
Abstract
This paper includes information a particular environmental law. Specifically, the Marine Mammal
Protection Act is discussed along with the history and background of this particular environmental
law. In addition, the reasoning behind its existence will be elaborately deliberated.
The Marine Mammal Protection Act
The Marine Mammal Protection Act was established and signed in 1972. According to Ray and Potter
(2011), this bill was passed, despite some times contentious testimony, without significant opposition
or debate by both the House of Representatives and the Senate and was signed into law on 21 October
1972 . This particular environmental act sought to protect whales, dolphins, ... Show more content on

Congress created the Marine Mammal Protection Act as a reaction to the public s concern that human
activities were threatening to extinguish certain species of marine mammals. As Dye (1993) states,
Congress enacted the MMPA to prohibit the harassing, catching and killing of marine mammals by
U.S. citizens or within the jurisdiction of the United States .
The MMPA is managed by primarily by both the US Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) external and the
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) external. The Marine Mammal
Commission (MMC) external was bought in also to review and amend existing policies. This group of
three members, chosen by the U.S. President, is appointed for three year terms. The FWS and NOAA
have different roles in protecting marine mammals; the first taking responsibility for sea otters,
walruses, polar bears, manatees; the latter taking responsibility for pinnipeds, including seals and sea
lions, and cetaceans such as whales and dolphins. Also, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection
Service external, part of the Department of Agriculture, is accountable for the regulations managing
marine mammals in captivity.
There have been a number of amendments to the MMPA since 1972. According to Risenhoover
(2012), these amendments have added more legislation or, in some parts, lessened the regulations . An
example is the International Dolphin Conservation Act

Critiquing Research In Mental Health Nursing
This literature review has enhanced my knowledge on research articles, how to identify what is a
strong or weak study, how to research properly and also, it enhanced my critiquing skill. It is
identified that recruiting mental health nurses and mental health is one of the undesirable nursing field
of new graduates is a significant contemporary issue in nursing because of the ageing nursing working
and the increasing numbers of clients with mental illness (Harrison et al., 2014, pp.561 562).
Personally, I wanted to pursue a career in mental health but I always see or hear negative stereotypes
about mental health and mental illness. It widened my view about mental health nursing. Even though,
I try not to be affected by those stereotypes it is difficult when you are surrounded by those thoughts
of other people. I found that there are still people who choose mental health because of their own
interests on mental health after reading articles about undergraduate and graduate nurse who pursue a
career in mental health.
Also, while reading the articles I was exposed to positive aspects and professional challenges of
mental health nursing and not just the negative aspect of it. I found that clinical experience is a strong
factor on choosing a career in nursing. Clinical experience could either influence it positively or
negatively. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, I would participate in the planning of a recruitment strategy to encourage new graduates to
pursue a career and remain working in a mental health field. Instead of working on why undergraduate
nursing students does not choose mental health, the focus should be on how to promote mental health
nursing as a desirable option. This relates to the nursing competencies in domain two and four:

Three Eras Research Paper
The general accepted divisions of our earths are the eon, era, period, epoch, and age, the two highest
levels are the Phanerozoic and Precambrian. The Phanerozoic are made of three types of era, they are,
Cenozoic, Mesozoic, and Paleozoic. The Precambrian is only made up of three era, they are, Hadean,
Archean, and Proterozoic. The first one that came first to start the earth was the Precambrian. The
Hadean Eon was names from the mythological Hades. This part of the Geologic time was when there
was no earth and when/how it started. In order for a planet to form it takes over 1 million years, so

Participative Leadership For Every Member
Introduction Participative leadership means to share authority with others to get tasks done in a better,
faster, and cooperative manner by involving everyone in the process. Here, there is a high value for
the contribution of every team member and participation is strongly encouraged in problem solving.
This type of leadership is a relatively new method in the work process, and it challenges the traditional
way of bossing others around. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effectiveness of participative
leadership in the work process. It will argue how through participative leadership it is possible to
create en efficient work environment using strategies of psychological empowerment, the provision of
organizational perspectives, group reciprocity, and learning to accept change.
Psychological Empowerment For Every Member One of the most important creations of using the
participative leadership method is that it leads to the practice of empowering participants
psychologically. According to a study by Xu Huang (2012), participative leadership is an effective
way to provide team members with a strong sense of control and motivation. This in practice can
secure a high level of group motivation and interaction through effective efforts. Psychological
empowerment makes members feel they can influence and through encouraging participation leaders
can often retain personal talents, which can lead to the creation of new ideas. Behaviours that

Absorbance Values
Abstract:
Claims were made that manufacturers had improperly labeled protein concentrations on their products.
Concentrations of these three different protein containing liquids, whole milk, soy milk, and a protein
solution were determined using a Bradford dye reagent and a spectrophotometer to measure the
absorbance of each. Absorbance of a set of standard known protein concentrations from a range of
0.125 mg/ml to 2.000 mg/ml were measured using the spectrophotometer at a set wavelength and this
data was plotted. The equation generated from the best fit line of this data was used to determine the
unknown concentrations of the three different samples. These values were then compared to the
protein concentrations obtained from the corresponding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would indicate that either the food labels or the calculated data are incorrect. The data was
dependent on a linear relationship between absorbance and protein concentration. However, the linear
relationship was based on only seven data points, two of which were omitted due to inconsistency, and
was only representative up to 2.000 mg/ml protein concentration. Because the data sample was small
and covered a small range of concentrations, the food label concentrations cannot be determined as
inaccurate. The more likely cause would be that the linearity assumption of the correlation between
the absorbance and the protein concentration is

The Bin Breaker Analysis
Are we controlling our own use of technology or is someone controlling it for us? The answer may
appear to be obvious but the reality is those who create the software control how much of our time
goes to technology/ applications. They have thought of explicit ways for us to essentially never want
to put our phone down. Now when you go to the movies, a restaurant, school, or work everyone is
constantly on their phone. They rarely engage with each other because they are too busy looking at
just about anything on their phone. The world so heavily relies on technology and this is what is
ruining mankind. People are not able to communicate with each other and socialize with each other.

software designers to become ethically conscious of their software and how it is destroying mankind.
There is no need to get rid of technology completely but their needs to serious change in how much
time we allow people to spend online. People can no longer have a simple dinner with a friend without
being on their phone. Or in my cases sitting through a lecture without checking instagram or snapchat.
These behaviors are starting to become more socially acceptable, and this needs to

The Significance of the discovery of the Iceman
The Iceman was discovered on the 19th September 1991 by a German couple, Helmut and Erika
Simons, who were hiking near the Austrian and Italian border in the Alps. They both had wandered
slightly off trail when Erika spotted a head and shoulders sticking out of the ice, she first thought it
was a discarded doll, but it was later found out to be an ancient traveler now known as the Iceman.
The Iceman was quickly named Otzi, after the valley Otzhal that was north of his death site. At one
glance, there really wasn t anything that special about Otzi, the significance of him was that he had
become the oldest, most prehistoric and well preserved mummy in the world, not since Tutankhamen
had anything stunned the world this much. After the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also stuffed grass into his boots to keep himself warm. Konrad Spindler was the one who
suggested that theory, he also suggested that the cause of death was a natural disaster, Otzi had laid out
his belongings into separate places, and then he had rested, and never woke ever again. It was
assumed that while he was resting, a sudden storm had come and he had died of hypothermia which is
said to be a painless death, then shortly after his death, the glacier had collapsed on top of him, Otzi
was a victim of the weather (Spindler), which also was the probably the reason why his body and
equipment was still so well preserved, and why it remained untouched throughout the years. Otzi was
assumed to have died in autumn because that was when the shepherds would take their flocks of sheep
up into the Alps, and they had used a microscopic analysis to find out what he had eaten, Otzi s last
meal had consisted of dried wheat, bread, and some meat, what was surprising, was that was also
traces of pollen in the food. The pollen was acted as a Fingerprint for each season (Spindler), because
flowers and plants usually pollinated in autumn. After looking at what Otzi s diet had been, the
scientists looked inside Otzi using X Rays and Cat Scans; they saw that Otzi s ribs were severely
distorted, so Spindler came up with the disaster theory . In which Otzi was believed to be a shepherd
who came back to his village in autumn and somehow got into a quarrel or

Culture Values
Texts reflect the culture and values of their eras by presenting and addressing perspectives of the
composers on the issues of the context. The poem The End and the Beginning by Wislawa
Szymborska and the Austrian film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance by Michael Haneke
accomplish this by exemplifying issues in 1990s society such as the increasing influence of media and
the breakdown of interpersonal communication.
The End and the Beginning is a Polish poem by Wislawa Szymborska which captures a wars
aftermath on its innocent citizens and how, in time, both the war and its origins are forgotten. It thus
shows how the values of a country or society may change over time as the views and opinions of its
citizens change.
The overall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This fragmentation is also visually portrayed through the jigsaw like paper game. Part way through the
film, a student fails to solve the puzzle leading to an outburst of anger, foreshadowing his final act of
violence.
Haneke has also used subtle film techniques to add to the sense of a breakdown of communication.
The camera is always positioned in such a way that makes the audience feel detached from the
characters. Rather than connecting emotionally with the characters, the audience is made to analyse
them, thus reflecting the emotionless state which our society has assumed with changing values. The
characters themselves are not named, allowing them to become representative of types within society.
The use of media is also present throughout the film with Haneke showing the increasingly invasive
presence of media within society as values change and mankind becomes more technological and
industrialised. By repeating the same articles at the end with the embedding of the films event as
another story, Haneke comments on how the media subsumes any disturbance into the even surface of
society and integrates it into the unending stream of trivialised information.
The film also serves a didactic purpose, as Haneke highlights and criticises the blatant use of violence
in Hollywood action films, saying that his films are intended as polemical statements against the

Shopper Essay
In the United States alone, millions of people shop every day. Interestingly enough, despite the mass
amount people, every shopper is classified as a consumer from one of only three main categories. One
can assume a shoppers category by examining the shopper s cart since the products which they have
bought determines their category. Every shopper is categorized as either a proactive shopper, an
aggressive shopper, or a wasteful shopper.
The shopper that only buys the items on his list is the person who makes shopping quick, easy, and
affordable. Those who are proactive and live busy lives most likely fall into this category of shoppers.
My father and I are both great examples of the proactive shopper. Prior to my Bar Mitzvah my mother

with a cart filled to the brim with unwanted shoes and clothing. Even though we only went shopping
for a single pair of shoes we left with a cart full of junk. In contrast to the other shoppers, the last type
of shopper never even purchases his desired item, instead, he wastes his time and money on things he
does not need. The final sect of shoppers is arguably the most foolish approach to shopping. This
shopper is the person who buys everything except for the product he intended to buy. One can entitle
this shopper as the wasteful shopper because of all the time and money wasted on the needless items
they purchase. Unfortunately, my aunt often shops as a wasteful shopper. Many years ago I went
shopping for towels with my aunt. We went to Walmart but, their towels were all overpriced. We
decided it was not worth the money; however, according to her, this was not a valid reason to leave the
store. After an hour of shopping for needless products we finally left Walmart with a cart full of stuff
she did not need nor will she ever need. Spoiled teenagers and young adults also often shop this way.

A Report On Animal Testing
Summary The case revolves around a company named Surplus Styles that manufactures hair care
products. Over the past years, the company has been focusing on providing low cost products and that
was its competitive advantage against its competitors. They choose their suppliers, who provided the
contents for their bottles. This was their main competitive bidding method. Since Surplus Styles was
focusing on providing low cost products, they did not focus on quality of the products. As a result they
were not meeting the new market demands that were trending towards products with high quality.
Now, the company is facing some issues regarding the quality of their products due to the rising
concerns of animal rights with products going through animal testing, the company needs to start
producing products that are of a high quality and not violate any of the animal rights regulations.
Since the current suppliers were providing the product on the basis of lower prices, they may not be to
supply quality product. Thus, Derick needs to figure out a way to get the good quality product and that

Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Hundred Years of Solitude Essay
Gabriel Garcia Marquez wrote One Hundred Years of Solitude originally in Spanish in 1967 but it has
been translated into many different languages ever since becoming a literary must for some. One
Hundred Years of Solitude has much to offer with hidden meanings and many literary ideas that are
expressed in a creative way. Marquez had a unique style of writing during his time. He wrote with the
sense that magic was real, and everyone should know it and it was a common idea. This was ever
present in One Hundred Years of Solitude when many abnormal things would happen but in the life
they had, it was common; such as when insomnia took over the town and all the people were happy

Solitude presents itself in the literal form and in the emotional or psychological form. Such ways are
present in the story as people are held captive in jail cells, lost lovers feel empty inside, or Ursula
going blind and being left alone in her own head. In addition the town of Macondo is itself a
civilization of isolation. Its location is separated from any major or small gatherings of people for
miles. Macondo becomes a world of its own; the only one in existence for the people for all they care
to know. With mountain chains and rivers and bodies of water keeping people alone in Macondo
however, people who wish to venture in have at least a six month journey; Macondo in its entirety
represents solitude. The fact that it is one hundred years also deserves a certain obligation to mull over
and think about during the time it takes to read this novel. However, one hundred years here in this
novel is about as relevant as the event of The Hundred Year War which actually lasted 116 years. In
One Hundred Years of Solitude time seems to be nothing more than an idea that was once said in a
repressed memory. In addition, time seems to skip around and repeat itself and play tricks on the
reader such as the repeating of names with every new generation. Time seems to take its time in some
parts with sentences that continue on forever never reaching an end, trying to point out certain

Internal And Internal Conflict In As I Lay Dying By...
In the novel, As I Lay Dying, by William Faulkner, Faulkner uses conflict as a way to develop the
story and engage the reader. The Bundren family is used by Faulkner specifically because they have
the most opportunity for unfortunate events to occur. Within the Bundren family, internal and external
conflicts become a part of the family s daily routine, and an average occurrence. Internal Conflict is a
conflict that occurs within a character and an external conflict is a conflict that occurs between a
character and an outside force. Both types of conflict are popular in the novel. The use of internal and
external conflict in As I Lay Dying is beneficial to the novel s meaning by furthering the plot.
Faulkner s use of internal conflict and external conflict assist in moving the story along and allowing
the reader to read between the lines to see the darkness in this Southern Gothic.
In the novel, Faulkner writes Addie s character as someone who is always being faced with a conflict,
and as a depressed woman living a miserable life. Addie s biggest conflict is internal. Previous to
Addie Bundren s death, and before she is married to Anse Bundren, Addie is a school teacher with a
miserable life, and a strong hatred for her job as a school teacher. According to the novel, the worst
part about Addie s job is the children; they never listen to her and due to this, she lives for the
moments where she gets to scold them. Faulkner reveals Addie s pure hatred for the children and

It was the English who played the major part in setting British North America were Protestants of a
distinct type. When the youthful Edward VI succeeded Henry VII in 1547, his Protestant advisors
greatly accelerated the pace of religious change in England. They enhanced the authority of such
leaders as the Archbishop of Canterbury Thomas Cranmer, whose liturgical theology was a subtle
blend of Lutheran and reformed emphases seasoned by the wisdom of the early church. And they
encouraged the removal of Roman Catholic practices and customs that had survived under Henry VIII.
In this reforming context the most advanced group of Protestants seized the opportunity to push
reform in England to what they thought was its logical conclusion. King Edwards died in 1553 and
was successful by his half sister Mary Tudor. Under her rule, Protestants, common people as well as
leaders such as Cranmer, went to the flames for their conviction. Others laid low in England or escape.

Four Step Process Law,
PART A Four Step Process (20 marks) Question (a) 10 marks The legal issue in question was the
elements of agreement that are required for the formation of a legal contract. The elements of an
agreement that are required for the formation of a legal contract is that it should consist of both offer

consists of the element of promissory. This means that there must be an undertaking or promise to give

Besides, expires over a specific time frame depending on the conditions, it is able to be withdrawn
prior to an acceptance made. Lastly, an offer lapses when a counter offer is made as well. The other
element of agreement is acceptance. An acceptance must be made on the same term as the offer and
can only made by the person who the offer is addressed to. Meanwhile, an acceptance must be made
while the offer is still in existence and it must be made in an acceptable form which means that the
acceptance must be made in the same manner of the offer was offered. Lastly, the acceptance is
effective when communicated. When an acceptance is via post, it is effective when the letter of
acceptance is posted. This is shown in the case of Henthorn v Fraser where Fraser offered Henthorn
the selling of houses for 750 dollars and gave 14 days to accept the offer. The next day, Henthorn
accepted the offer and posted a letter to Fraser. However, Fraser was offered a better price on selling
of the houses before he received the letter and wished to withdraw it. The issue is that should the

Sandra Bland s Injustice
Sandra Bland s Injustice When I first heard about Sandra Bland s story, my heart broke immediately.
No, I did not know her personally but I had the thought that, that could have been me. On July 13,
2015 social media, the news and the internet were booming with information about the death of
Sandra Bland. Sandra Bland was arrested on July 10, 2015 for a minor traffic violation in Hempstead,
Texas while she was on the way to accept her new job at Prairie View A M. Three days later Bland
was found hanged in her jail cell in Waller County, Texas. The county coroner classified her death as a
suicide, although many believe that she was murdered by one of the officers. Until this day we still
question, What really happened to Sandra Bland? This incident has affected not only me but others as
well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sandra had no cameras inside of her cell. A camera outside her cell recorded no movement in the
hallway for 90 minutes before guards found her dead. The autopsy states that she committed suicide
and that there was no sign of struggle. Sandra s family had no reason to believe that she would take
her own life. They claimed that she was well grounded and had always been. Sandra Bland was taking
a new job at Prairie View A M University in Texas. She had graduated from Prairie View A M in 2009
and was returning there as a student ambassador. So why would this woman who had just gotten a
great job offer take her own life? As time passed during her investigation, things just were not adding
up. The video from inside Waller County jail from the camera outside of her cell had been released.
The video that was released for the press and for the world to see did not show anyone going into
Sandra s cell. Now studies state that video was edited. It also went to the extent that when Sandra
Bland took her mug shot she was already dead. There was a before and after picture released that

Letter of Appeal Essay
I am studying to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. I am writing to appeal for my financial aid. I feel
a letter was proper because of certain circumstances that occurred during my life that contributed to
me withdrawing from Psychology, College prep writing, college prep arithmetic and failing PRN

Throughout the course of the LPN I ve came across several trial and tribulations where there were
several occasions I had to come to class with my daughter because I could not find someone to watch
my daughter, which was the reason why I failed the PRN0374 course. There were days that I had to
miss class because I could not find a babysitter and there were times where my babysitter would
cancel on me last minute. Many of the times I took chances bringing my daughter to school with me
and having to hide her in the back of the classroom just so the professor wouldn t send me home
because she was with me.
Now that I ve found a reliable sitter for my daughter I am doing a lot better in my PRN class and I m

Analysis of The Unknown Citizen by W.H. Auden Essay examples
Analysis of The Unknown Citizen by W.H. Auden The Unknown Citizen , written by W.H. Auden
during 1940, is a poem where the speaker, a representative of the state or government, directs a speech
to the audience about a monument being erected for a citizen. Written in free verse, although using
many couplets, this poem is a poem that describes the life of a certain person through his records and
documents. This citizen is portrayed as a normal and average human being who is being honoured for
being normal. Auden, however, uses the fact that the state is honouring someone for being normal to
criticise his society. By emphasizing certain grammatical conventions and the structure the author
explains the true meaning of this poem, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the poem, Auden sarcastically shows that the state is erecting a monument for a nobody.
Monuments are usually erected as a memorial to a person with outstanding accomplishments who
stand out from the rest of the population. However, this citizen does not do anything that makes him
different from the rest of the population. As Auden writes: The Press are convinced that he bought a
paper every day And that his reactions to advertisements were normal in every way. Policies taken out
in his name prove that he was fully insured, And his Health card shows he was once in a hospital but
left it cured. Both Producers Research and High Grade Living declare He was fully sensible to the
advantages of the Installment Plan And had everything necessary to the Modern Man, A phonograph, a
radio, a car and a frigidaire. Our researchers into Public Opinion are content That he held the proper
opinions for the time of year; When there was peace, he was for peace; when there was war, he went.
(14 24) The author describes this citizen as being an overall regular man in society, who did not
change or impact the world by any means. He was a normal man who bought a paper every day

The Decisive Outcome Of The Napoleonic Wars
Thesis Statement:
This paper shall attempt to show the reasons for the need of this campaign and why this campaign was
important to the decisive outcome of the Napoleonic Wars [1787 1815].
Historical Background:
In 1803, the War of the Third Coalition began against France. In this coalition, the powers of the
United Kingdom, Austria, Russia, and Sweden went to war against France to reestablish order on the
old continent of Europe. In the War of the Third Coalition two major battles of the Napoleonic wars
were seen: Austerlitz and Trafalgar both were decisive in their tides of the war efforts. In the end,
Austria would be forced into a surrender, and the Confederation of the Rhine would occur. This would
leave the United Kingdom as one of the few states at war with France for the safety of Europe. By
1808, Napoleon was marching on many of the old states (again): Austria, Prussia, and Spain. With the
French invasion of Spain and Portugal, the British were forced to send troops to the Iberian Peninsula.
Following a series of defeats and almost the complete loss of Lisbon, the United Kingdom placed
Arthur Wellesley (who would later become known as the Duke of Wellington) in command of the
Iberian Forces for the defense of Portugal, thereby, beginning the great campaign in Spain, known
only as, the Peninsula Campaign. The reason for the historical significance of the Peninsula Campaign
of 1808 to 1814 is thusly this: with growing number of British troops in the underbelly of

Essay On The Movie Coraline
In terms of plot, the movie adaptation of Neil Gaiman s Coraline is extremely true to the source
material. It still tells the story of a young girl who grows unappreciative of her real family and finds a
magical door in her new home that leads to a better, fantastical version of the family she has now. The
creepiness and scary moments are also true to form, with this world being only a copy of the real
world, created by the Other Mother in an attempt to trap Coraline forever. The quest to rescue the
three ghost children is almost exactly the same, with two of their souls being found in Miss Spink and
Forcible s theater and Mr. B s circus. But since the movie added a scene in which an enticing garden is
used as an item to gain Coraline s trust in the Other Mother s fake world, one of the ghost souls was
placed in this location instead. Another major difference between the book and the movie is the
addition of the character Wybie. He acts as a source of inside knowledge about The Pink Palace and
helps kill the Other Mother s hand at the climax of the movie, while in the book Coraline gathered her
information about her home from her parents as well as Miss Spink and Forcible, and killed the Other
Mother s hand by tricking it rather than crushing it. The use of stop motion animation was also a
benefactor in bringing this terrifying story to a visual format, as stop motion tends to look uncanny
and unsettling at times. Both works are masterpieces of writing and storytelling, and

Analysis Of The Movie I Like The Way You Die
I like the way you die, boy Django said to Big John Brittle as John is shot to death by Django, an
African American free slave. That scene felt very satisfying especially since Big John Brittle was
about to whip a little poor slave girl. Hitler in Inglourious Basterds was killed by a Jewish solider who
got the opportunity to shoot Hitler multiple times in the torso and face; this Jewish solider had a look
of vengeance in his eyes as he shot him. Notice how both these films have a feel good story about how
someone weak was able to kill and defeat their oppressors. Looking at Tarantino s two recently films
from 2012 and 2009, Django Unchained and Inglourious Basterds, you see that Tarantino wanted to
make a film where the setting is in history s worst timeline along with the oppressed in that timeline
take down the oppressor. This notion seems to have a direct appeal to the audience s feelings; it gives
them a sense of justice that the cruel oppressors that controlled the oppressed in that timeline got
punishment and even death by the oppressed. Tarantino more recently films, including Django
Unchained, The Hateful Eight, and Inglourious Basterds, are all set in the past with Django Unchained
and Inglourious Basterds set in history s darkest timelines. Django Unchained is set in the 19th
century in the United States when slavery was legal and African Americans were treated sub human

In my opinion, every species, including humans, is a part of the food chain. Whether or not humans
are at the top of the food chain isn t what is important when it comes to the relationship between us
and whales. We have the technology and intelligence to kill whales and use them at important
resources, including food, wax (for candles and cosmetics), and pharmaceuticals. We should be taking
every advantage we get to further develop our knowledge of whale oil, meat, and cartilage. I believe
that we should use every opportunity to better our lives, but that does not include kill whales
recreationally. There is no excuse for that, just like there is no excuse for kills of dogs, zebras, or
pandas. Unless it is for survival, no one should be killing an animal for fun. That saying, there is a
point when we will have to stop commercial whaling. The whale population has been an interesting
trend to research. Whale population has been very high and very low in the past couple centuries. My
opinion is that we should have a set number of whales that we can take out of the ocean each year. If
that number starts to cause a decline in the population, it should be set lower. If the population
becomes endangered, I believe that whaling should stop immediately. I could imagine having to

Frankenstein Personal Response
1.) Initially, my first impression of this excerpt was unique. I felt as though I have read similar
situations in other novels, however, the author describes the environment unlike any other. First, I
wondered what the aliens were planning, and what effect it would have on humanity. Similarly, the
characters in the book behaved the same way, some trying to communicate with the aliens, and others
just wondering about them. It felt as though we were all moths flying around a bug zapper, too
mystified to realize the immediate danger posed by the aliens. Only when it was too late, did the main

action ensues, as the main character watches in bewilderment as the alien ship destroys everything

Police Enforcement And The Police
Law Enforcement Officers duties are to protect people and to keep a peaceful environment. Once an

Characteristics Of Effective Leadership Styles
Characteristics of Effective Leadership Styles
Presented to

MGMT 1115 Leadership
By
William Allen
June 21, 2015
What are the effective leadership styles? More importantly what are the characteristics of these styles.
This paper will discuss in detail three topics and how they relate to effective leadership styles. We will
start by evaluating business situations to determine whether the leadership style is participative,
autocratic, leadership grid based or entrepreneurial. Next we will compare and contrast the leadership
styles in various situations based upon the leadership differences by gender. Lastly, we will decide the
best leadership style for specific situations. Different business situations require specific leadership
styles. These leadership styles include participative, autocratic, leadership grid based and
entrepreneurial. The Participative leadership style is characterized by a leader who turns to the team
for input, ideas, and observations instead of making all decisions on their own. The leader recognizes
that the team has skills and ideas that could benefit the decision making process. Participative
leadership requires the whole team to be involved. Benefits of this style of leadership includes having
subordinates feeling empowered and important. Its also able to give different strategies and decisions

Essay about Wisdom Sits in Places

Wisdom Sits in Places: Landscape and Language Among the Western Apache
Keith H. Basso s Wisdom Sits in Places: Landscape and Language Among the Western Apache

accomplished only in a vague and general way. This is of little consequence, however, for what
matters most to Apaches is where events occurred, not

Also, while reading the articles I was exposed to positive aspects and professional challenges of mental health nursing and not just the negative aspect of it. • 7. Participative Leadership For Every Member Introduction Participative leadership means to share authority with others to get tasks done in a better, faster, and cooperative manner by involving everyone in the process. Here, there is a high value for the contribution of every team member and participation is strongly encouraged in problem solving. This type of leadership is a relatively new method in the work process, and it challenges the traditional way of bossing others around. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effectiveness of participative leadership in the work process. It will argue how through participative leadership it is possible to create en efficient work environment using strategies of psychological empowerment, the provision of organizational perspectives, group reciprocity, and learning to accept change. Psychological Empowerment For Every Member One of the most important creations of using the participative leadership method is that it leads to the practice of empowering participants psychologically. According to a study by Xu Huang (2012), participative leadership is an effective way to provide team members with a strong sense of control and motivation. This in practice can secure a high level of group motivation and interaction through effective efforts. Psychological empowerment makes members feel they can influence and through encouraging participation leaders can often retain personal talents, which can lead to the creation of new ideas. • 8. Absorbance Values Abstract: Claims were made that manufacturers had improperly labeled protein concentrations on their products. Concentrations of these three different protein containing liquids, whole milk, soy milk, and a protein solution were determined using a Bradford dye reagent and a spectrophotometer to measure the absorbance of each. Absorbance of a set of standard known protein concentrations from a range of 0.125 mg/ml to 2.000 mg/ml were measured using the spectrophotometer at a set wavelength and this data was plotted. The equation generated from the best fit line of this data was used to determine the unknown concentrations of the three different samples. These values were then compared to the protein concentrations obtained from the corresponding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the linear relationship was based on only seven data points, two of which were omitted due to inconsistency, and was only representative up to 2.000 mg/ml protein concentration. Because the data sample was small and covered a small range of concentrations, the food label concentrations cannot be determined as inaccurate. The more likely cause would be that the linearity assumption of the correlation between the absorbance and the protein concentration is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Significance of the discovery of the Iceman The Iceman was discovered on the 19th September 1991 by a German couple, Helmut and Erika Simons, who were hiking near the Austrian and Italian border in the Alps. They both had wandered slightly off trail when Erika spotted a head and shoulders sticking out of the ice, she first thought it was a discarded doll, but it was later found out to be an ancient traveler now known as the Iceman. The Iceman was quickly named Otzi, after the valley Otzhal that was north of his death site. Konrad Spindler was the one who suggested that theory, he also suggested that the cause of death was a natural disaster, Otzi had laid out his belongings into separate places, and then he had rested, and never woke ever again. It was assumed that while he was resting, a sudden storm had come and he had died of hypothermia which is said to be a painless death, then shortly after his death, the glacier had collapsed on top of him, Otzi was a victim of the weather (Spindler), which also was the probably the reason why his body and equipment was still so well preserved, and why it remained untouched throughout the years. Otzi was assumed to have died in autumn because that was when the shepherds would take their flocks of sheep up into the Alps, and they had used a microscopic analysis to find out what he had eaten, Otzi s last meal had consisted of dried wheat, bread, and some meat, what was surprising, was that was also traces of pollen in the food. The pollen was acted as a Fingerprint for each season (Spindler), because flowers and plants usually pollinated in autumn. After looking at what Otzi s diet had been, the scientists looked inside Otzi using X Rays and Cat Scans; they saw that Otzi s ribs were severely distorted, so Spindler came up with the disaster theory . The poem The End and the Beginning by Wislawa Szymborska and the Austrian film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance by Michael Haneke accomplish this by exemplifying issues in 1990s society such as the increasing influence of media and the breakdown of interpersonal communication. The End and the Beginning is a Polish poem by Wislawa Szymborska which captures a wars aftermath on its innocent citizens and how, in time, both the war and its origins are forgotten. This fragmentation is also visually portrayed through the jigsaw like paper game. Part way through the film, a student fails to solve the puzzle leading to an outburst of anger, foreshadowing his final act of violence. Haneke has also used subtle film techniques to add to the sense of a breakdown of communication. The camera is always positioned in such a way that makes the audience feel detached from the characters. Rather than connecting emotionally with the characters, the audience is made to analyse them, thus reflecting the emotionless state which our society has assumed with changing values. The characters themselves are not named, allowing them to become representative of types within society. The use of media is also present throughout the film with Haneke showing the increasingly invasive presence of media within society as values change and mankind becomes more technological and industrialised. By repeating the same articles at the end with the embedding of the films event as another story, Haneke comments on how the media subsumes any disturbance into the even surface of society and integrates it into the unending stream of trivialised information. The film also serves a didactic purpose, as Haneke highlights and criticises the blatant use of violence in Hollywood action films, saying that his films are intended as polemical statements against the American ... Every shopper is categorized as either a proactive shopper, an aggressive shopper, or a wasteful shopper. The shopper that only buys the items on his list is the person who makes shopping quick, easy, and affordable. He wrote with the sense that magic was real, and everyone should know it and it was a common idea. Macondo becomes a world of its own; the only one in existence for the people for all they care to know. With mountain chains and rivers and bodies of water keeping people alone in Macondo however, people who wish to venture in have at least a six month journey; Macondo in its entirety represents solitude. The Bundren family is used by Faulkner specifically because they have the most opportunity for unfortunate events to occur. Within the Bundren family, internal and external conflicts become a part of the family s daily routine, and an average occurrence. Internal Conflict is a conflict that occurs within a character and an external conflict is a conflict that occurs between a character and an outside force. Both types of conflict are popular in the novel. The use of internal and external conflict in As I Lay Dying is beneficial to the novel s meaning by furthering the plot. Faulkner s use of internal conflict and external conflict assist in moving the story along and allowing the reader to read between the lines to see the darkness in this Southern Gothic. In the novel, Faulkner writes Addie s character as someone who is always being faced with a conflict, and as a depressed woman living a miserable life. Addie s biggest conflict is internal. Meanwhile, an acceptance must be made while the offer is still in existence and it must be made in an acceptable form which means that the acceptance must be made in the same manner of the offer was offered. Lastly, the acceptance is effective when communicated. When an acceptance is via post, it is effective when the letter of acceptance is posted. The next day, Henthorn accepted the offer and posted a letter to Fraser. However, Fraser was offered a better price on selling of the houses before he received the letter and wished to withdraw it. Monuments are usually erected as a memorial to a person with outstanding accomplishments who stand out from the rest of the population. However, this citizen does not do anything that makes him different from the rest of the population. As Auden writes: The Press are convinced that he bought a paper every day And that his reactions to advertisements were normal in every way. Policies taken out in his name prove that he was fully insured, And his Health card shows he was once in a hospital but left it cured. Both Producers Research and High Grade Living declare He was fully sensible to the advantages of the Installment Plan And had everything necessary to the Modern Man, A phonograph, a radio, a car and a frigidaire. • 28. The Decisive Outcome Of The Napoleonic Wars Thesis Statement: This paper shall attempt to show the reasons for the need of this campaign and why this campaign was important to the decisive outcome of the Napoleonic Wars [1787 1815]. Historical Background: In 1803, the War of the Third Coalition began against France. In this coalition, the powers of the United Kingdom, Austria, Russia, and Sweden went to war against France to reestablish order on the old continent of Europe. In the War of the Third Coalition two major battles of the Napoleonic wars were seen: Austerlitz and Trafalgar both were decisive in their tides of the war efforts. In the end, Austria would be forced into a surrender, and the Confederation of the Rhine would occur. This would leave the United Kingdom as one of the few states at war with France for the safety of Europe. By 1808, Napoleon was marching on many of the old states (again): Austria, Prussia, and Spain. With the French invasion of Spain and Portugal, the British were forced to send troops to the Iberian Peninsula. Following a series of defeats and almost the complete loss of Lisbon, the United Kingdom placed Arthur Wellesley (who would later become known as the Duke of Wellington) in command of the Iberian Forces for the defense of Portugal, thereby, beginning the great campaign in Spain, known only as, the Peninsula Campaign. The reason for the historical significance of the Peninsula Campaign of 1808 to 1814 is thusly this: with growing number of British troops in the underbelly of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Essay On The Movie Coraline In terms of plot, the movie adaptation of Neil Gaiman s Coraline is extremely true to the source material. It still tells the story of a young girl who grows unappreciative of her real family and finds a magical door in her new home that leads to a better, fantastical version of the family she has now. The creepiness and scary moments are also true to form, with this world being only a copy of the real world, created by the Other Mother in an attempt to trap Coraline forever. The quest to rescue the three ghost children is almost exactly the same, with two of their souls being found in Miss Spink and Forcible s theater and Mr. B s circus. But since the movie added a scene in which an enticing garden is used as an item to gain Coraline s trust in the Other Mother s fake world, one of the ghost souls was placed in this location instead. Another major difference between the book and the movie is the addition of the character Wybie. He acts as a source of inside knowledge about The Pink Palace and helps kill the Other Mother s hand at the climax of the movie, while in the book Coraline gathered her information about her home from her parents as well as Miss Spink and Forcible, and killed the Other Mother s hand by tricking it rather than crushing it. The use of stop motion animation was also a benefactor in bringing this terrifying story to a visual format, as stop motion tends to look uncanny and unsettling at times. • 31. Analysis Of The Movie I Like The Way You Die I like the way you die, boy Django said to Big John Brittle as John is shot to death by Django, an African American free slave. That scene felt very satisfying especially since Big John Brittle was about to whip a little poor slave girl. Hitler in Inglourious Basterds was killed by a Jewish solider who got the opportunity to shoot Hitler multiple times in the torso and face; this Jewish solider had a look of vengeance in his eyes as he shot him. Notice how both these films have a feel good story about how someone weak was able to kill and defeat their oppressors. Looking at Tarantino s two recently films from 2012 and 2009, Django Unchained and Inglourious Basterds, you see that Tarantino wanted to make a film where the setting is in history s worst timeline along with the oppressed in that timeline take down the oppressor. This notion seems to have a direct appeal to the audience s feelings; it gives them a sense of justice that the cruel oppressors that controlled the oppressed in that timeline got punishment and even death by the oppressed. Tarantino more recently films, including Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight, and Inglourious Basterds, are all set in the past with Django Unchained and Inglourious Basterds set in history s darkest timelines. Whether or not humans are at the top of the food chain isn t what is important when it comes to the relationship between us and whales. We should be taking every advantage we get to further develop our knowledge of whale oil, meat, and cartilage. I believe that we should use every opportunity to better our lives, but that does not include kill whales recreationally. There is no excuse for that, just like there is no excuse for kills of dogs, zebras, or pandas. Unless it is for survival, no one should be killing an animal for fun. That saying, there is a point when we will have to stop commercial whaling. The whale population has been an interesting trend to research. Whale population has been very high and very low in the past couple centuries. My opinion is that we should have a set number of whales that we can take out of the ocean each year. It is through the dialogue that the reader is able to really understand the importance the Western Apache place on the where of things that happened, as opposed to, the when. The year something happened is not the driving force behind a place name, in fact, the year is typically not even mentioned in their dialogues.
