The Potential Of Persuasion By Phaedrus And Life Of...
Bui Ngo Thanh Truc (Tessa)
The Potential of Persuasion in Phaedrus and Life of Demosthenes
Persuasion is an essential skill for rhetoricians. Since all a rhetorician needs is not the truth but his
own opinion, persuasion is necessary to address the assembly. While persuasion could be used to lead
a city to making the right decisions and gaining glory, the power of persuasion could be also abused or
used by the wrong person. Demosthenes uses his rhetorical skills to push Athens away from its course
of destruction. He also advocates for policies which are beneficial to Athens. Demades and the other
orators were supportive of Athens becoming allies which was the wrong course of action because it
led to the destruction of Athens. Someone could misuse their skill of persuasion due to lack of
knowledge and morality. Good orators can also have flaws, like Demosthenes and his susceptibility to
bribery. The negative potential can be reduced if the rhetoricians are philosophers and knowledgeable
of ethics. Socrates and Phaedrus s discussion shows how truth is relative to whoever is most
persuasive. While Plutarch does not state any solutions to reducing negative potential in rhetorical
speeches, Plato s method for giving a persuasive speech worthy of praise is by dialectic speech. Both
Plato and Plutarch acknowledge the power of rhetoric and persuasion to affect the course of events in
both a positive and negative way and recognize the problem that comes with it.

Democracy And Its Lack Of Democracy
Throughout Plato s Republic in Book VIII, readers are caught up in the conversation about four unjust
structures that each structure will succeed the other as society decays. The four unjust structures are
explained throughout dialogue and described as timocracy, oligarchy, democracy, and tyranny. Most
shocking critique throughout the discussion is about democracy and its ineffectiveness to rule. Plato s
disagreement of democracy does not involve of what we are acquainted with today, but rather the idea
of democracy. Plato explores the central strain of the government that is acknowledged with liberty
and fairness. Also, this form of government known for its embracement of freedom and equality. Plato
s description and disagreement about democracy is correct because the consequences of such
government is that it leads the population to pursue unnecessary desires.
Democracy is the type of government where the rule comes from people. Democracy, as we know it
today, gives power to the many and in turn give most importance to the idea of obtaining freedom.
Freedom empowers people to pursue their desires and obtain every opportunity they can acquire.
People in this government have unlimited mobility and have free speech to their ideas and beliefs.
However, Plato s argument is that this freedom will the downfall for this type of government and how
people are fueled with their intent to obtain their desire. The enjoyment of free speech can backfire as

Artificial Intelligent, Natural Language Processing
Abstract
We are living in a busy world. Everyone is trying to catchup with almost everything he can. As a result
we all need our own persona assistant to help us out everyday. But not everyone can afford it.
Intelligent Personal
Assistant is the answer for them. Artificial Intelligent is improving fast. And taking advantage of it in
our everyday life can make our life much easier. It can mimic basic things like a human companion. In
this paper we compared between currently popular Intelligent Personal Assistants. What they can do
and what they can not yet. Though they provide state of art features but there is still many field to
make improvement, like improved natural language processing so that we don t have to use some
predefined keyword to get answer.
Chapter 1
Introduction
With the breakthrough of speech recognition, natural language processing, semantic web and machine
learning we can safely say that the age of Intelligent Personal Assistant(IPA) is upon us. A software
agent that can do various task or service for a person is called Intelligent Personal Assistant.
It depend on user input, location information and various online sources for information about
weather, traffic conditions, news etc. Currently there are many of such agent is available for everyday
use such as Google Now by
Google, Siri by Apple, Amazon Echo, Microsoft Cortana and Facebook s M.

Comparing Freud And Nietzsche s On The Genealogy Of
This essay will focus on two theorists, Friedrich Nietzsche, a nineteenth century German philosopher
and cultural theorist and Sigmund Freud, a twentieth century Austrian neurologist and father of
psychoanalysis. I will be discussing Freud and Nietzsche and their theories on culture, primarily
concentrating on Freud s Civilization and its Discontents and Nietzsche s On the Genealogy of
Morals: A Polemic, but will also utilise some secondary reading in its analysis.
Nietzsche died in Germany in August 1900 at the age of 55, after many years of ill mental and
physical health. Before his death and due to his mental instability, Nietzsche s sister, Elisabeth Förster,
became editor of his works. Förster held extreme nationalistic views and rewrote ... Show more

Freud considered human beings to be instinctively violent creatures, believing that we have a
fundamental hostility ... to one another. He thought that humans were initially motivated by the
pleasure principle, which seeks gratification and is obeyed by the unconscious id. However, the
pleasure principle is restricted by the reality principle, which is developed by the ego in early infancy.
Without the reality principle, civilization could not function, as it enables us to postpone satisfaction.
As well as this, if the id remained unchecked and the pleasure principle always obeyed, the pleasure
we feel upon receipt of our desires would be lessened. As Freud asserts, what we call happiness ...
arises from the fairly sudden satisfaction of pent up needs [therefore,] it can be no more than an

A Comparison of Blake, Wordsworth and Keats
A Comparison of Blake, Wordsworth and Keats
William Blake, John Keats and William Wordsworth all believe in the depth of the world and the
possibilities of the human heart. However, each poet looks towards different periods in time to capture
meaning in life. Blake looks towards the future for his inspiration, Keats towards the present and
Wordsworth towards the past. Regardless of where each poet looks for their inspiration they are all
looking for the same thing; timeless innocence. Each poet sought to transcend time by creating works
that dealt with life, death, hope and imagination and to discover some kind of deep truth or meaning in
existence. Life and death is an issue that we will all have to deal with at some point in our life ... Show

Technological advancement and social progress were steps backwards for Wordsworth and thus he
looked to the past for his inspiration.
John Keats did not have the luxury time that Wordsworth had to look to the past and reminisce about
things that were because he knew he did not have long to live. Even from a young age Keats felt his
life would be a short one and he so he applied himself to his art with a desperate urgency . Keats died
at twenty six years old and managed to leave behind some of the greatest poetry ever written. He didn
t bother to look toward the future because he knew that he wouldn t live to see it and he didn t look to
the past because he decided that it was more important to live in the moment.
Keats was very aware of his own mortality and his poetry reflected the intensity and the passion of a
man who didn t have very long to live. His poetry remains some of the densest prose ever penned
because, like his brief existence, he had to condense so much life into so little space. The thought of
impending death would be enough to make anyone fall into hopeless despair but Keats s incredible
talents and commitment to live in the moment perhaps allowed him to three lifetimes. The Chimney
Sweeper is a quintessential Blake poem as it embodies his belief in looking towards the future for
hope and comfort. Additionally, the poem is a perfect example of a child s movement from innocence

Socialization Of Mass Media
The mass media participates in this hegemonic process in the way it reveals the social status and
economic class. The mainstream news media often commends the prosperity and values of the
dominant class and weakens the dignity of the working people. This happens largely through the
corporate monopolization and can be seen through analyzing the dominant ideologies of consumerism,
competition and democracy within modern society. Preserving control over people s minds is a
fundamental element of the political power required to maintain the capitalist economic system.
Herman and Chomsky provide a propaganda model that can be used as an agenda to further examine
how the media serves the ends of a dominant elite. The consumer culture is one of the primary forms
of domination and can often interfere with our identities in destructive ways. Companies use the
media as a system of communication to increase commodity consumption in order to generate profit
for capitalists. Mainstream news media are profit driven businesses owned by corporations and are
largely funded by advertisers. Advertising was a significant innovative expansion that influenced the
formation of the consumer. The goal of advertisers was to aggressively shape consumer desires and
create value in commodities by imbuing them with the power to transform the consumer into a more
desirable person (C. Colaguori, 2013, p.173). When linking values to commodities, advertisers are
implanting insecurities and fears

The Beatles And Their Music
An entire generation in Cold War Soviet Russia was born to a nuclear bomb, raised under the constant
threat of war, and seemed doomed to suffocate by their own government, until they were emancipated
by a life force that was as formidable as unlikely a savior. This paper discusses the role of the Beatles
and their music in the cultural, political and social revolutions that took place Cold War Russia.
Drawing upon various conversations and anecdotes that Leslie Woodhead discusses in his 2013 book
How The Beatles Rocked the Kremlin , this paper attempts to also understand how contemporary
Russia has evolved to carry with herself the revolutionary spirit of the Beatles.
As reiterated upon by various interviewees in different capacities, it is important that one must preface
any discussion of the Beatles in the Soviet Union with a historical context of the country in the 1960s.
It is indeed impossible to guess whether the Beatles would have had the impact they made on another
historical generation, but the Soviet population in the mid sixties certainly lived in a time that was
fertile ground for the arrival of the Beatles (Woodhead, 23). In those early years of the Cold War,
Nikita Khrushchev and his efforts in spearheading Russia in the international space race, along with
his thawing of political, economic and cultural restrictions were a source of a nationwide zeal and
pride. Nevertheless, the rapid events leading to his ousting in 1965, and the hastily implemented

John Cage Song Books
John Cage was born in 1912 in Los Angeles. His father was an inventor, and his mother worked as a
journalist for the LA Times. Cage was first introduced to the piano music of the 19th century by his
aunt; he began taking piano lessons in fourth grade. By the time he graduated from high school, he
was convinced that he wanted to be a writer, and in 1928 Cage became a theology major in college.
However, two years after he decided that going to Europe would be more beneficial for his future
writings than studying at school was. He spent a couple years in Europe, studying various forms of art.
In 1931 he came back to California, and started earning money by teaching private lessons on
contemporary art.
In 1933 began to focus on music rather than on visual art, and moved to New York, and later to
California (UCLA), to study with Schoenberg. In Cage s autobiography, he mentions:
When I asked Schoenberg to teach me, he said, You probably can t afford my price. I said, Don t
mention it; I don t have any money. He said, Will you devote your life to music? This time I said Yes.
He said he would teach me free of charge. I gave up painting and concentrated on music.
Schoenberg prided himself in daunting his students:
I consider it as one of my merits that I did not encourage composing... [in that I treated] hundreds of
pupils in a manner that showed I did not think too much of

Essay on Episode Of Hands
Episode of Hands
The unexpected interest made him flush.
Suddenly he seemed to forget the pain,
Consented, and held out
One finger from the others.
The gash was bleeding, and a shaft of sun
That glittered in and out among the wheels,
Fell lightly, warmly, down into the wound.
And as the fingers of the factory owner s son,
That knew a grip for books and tennis
As well as one for iron and leather,
As his taut, spare fingers wound the gauze
Around the thick bed of the wound,
His own hands seemed to him
Like wings of butterflies
Flickering in the sunlight over summer fields.
The knots and notches, many in the wide
Deep hand that lay in his, seemed beautiful.

upper hand at any time. It is a poem of change, and how things never change as they are expected to
do, nor do they change before our eyes as we would believe, but instead change us in a way that
makes us blind to ourselves. quot;As the fingers of the factory owner s son, That knew a grip for

The style of Hart Crane is nearly unmatched. Here he uses a free verse structure, written as a
Blackwood Article, in a story that depicts an event which is the theme and the subject of the poem. He
uses little rhyme, with any structure, but the words flow from frame to frame as though a rhyme
scheme had been used quite frivolously. There is also a great deal of imagery. A good amount of
emphasis is placed upon the hands, the lifeblood of our interaction with the world, and as the hands
are described against the sunlight we can nearly see a picture perfect masterpiece within our minds
that helps us along in the story. There is also a well hidden hint at imagery here; quot; His own hands
seemed to him Like wings of butterflies quot;, means quite clearly, that he has most recently

China, the creator of tea and silk went through a period where they had troubles with the west. This
took place in the early nineteenth century. During this time china still thinks that they are the middle

other countries. China has not wanted to trade with Britain. China has not wanted to trade because of
they are self sufficiece. China has been living by Confucian principles for the last thousand years, and

China was harmed politically by the western countries because the treaty of Nanking caused China to
lose control over their territory and ports. In the Treaty Of Nanking China lost the island of Hong
Kong over to British Control. In the article China meets the west, Opium war and Treaty of Nanking it
says Treaty also gave the British the island of Hong Kong. This is bad for china because there is the
loss of cultural effect and the Chinese government will no longer be there. Without the Chinese culture
the island will be forced to give the original Confucian Principles that they grew up on. The
government will no longer be Chinese, they will be a colony of great britain. That means that every
one living on the island will become a citizen of great britain. They would most likely have to change
religions to christian and give up family traditions and such. When the treaty was signed it also gave
the right for British merchants to put their ship at port anywhere they want. From the article China

article of the treaty to be thrown open for the rest of the British merchants. Any ship from great Britain
is welcome to take port anywhere they want in china. That is giving the British the upper hand. In the

Like Water For Chocolate By John Brown Seduction Essay
My grandmother had a very interesting theory; she said that each of us is born with a box of matches
inside us but we can t strike them by ourselves; just as in the experiment, we need oxygen and a
candle to help. Dr. John Brown, Ch.6 Pg 115 Within chapter six of Like Water for Chocolate, Dr. John
Brown had declared this quotation to Tita whilst performing a lab experiment in front of her. At first, I
began to think that there is a sense of seduction behind Dr. Brown s statement. This can be backed up
because Dr. Brown does develop admiration when looked at Tita in chapter 4 of page 74. Or in other
words, he does acquire love feelings for Tita when he heard that she delivered Rosaura s baby by
herself without no experience needed. Dr. Brown also hadn t felt any sort of sensation for a women
ever since his wife died five years prior. Initially, that s what I thought Dr. Brown s motive was.
However, it might have not been the main one. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of the struggles include the send off of Pedro, Rosaura and Roberto to San Antonio, Roberto s
death and the continuous arguing moments between Mama Elena and herself. This long theory, which
began at this quote, had deep connection to what Tita s impulses were like throughout the April, May
and June chapters. Like for example, the birth of Roberto ignited Tita to have a new, fond connections
with Pedro and Rosaura. This mimics the explosion that is generated from oxygen and the candle.
Without that event from happening, then Tita wouldn t have felt as positive as she ended up being in
the April chapter. With that said, Dr. Brown s ultimate motive towards this quotation attempts to direct
Tita into a more positive direction of her life, which does get her thinking a

How Does The Baclofen Pump Be Successful At Helping Anyone...

order to control Cerebral Palsy there are multiple treatments such as the baclofen pump. This
treatment is more likely to be successful, rather than the Botox injections and phenol blocks. It has
been proven that the baclofen pump is more likely to be successful at helping anyone with Cerebral

causes, there are different treatments that could be used to treat the causes. These causes include

Kaiser Chiefs Pros And Cons
Let s summarise: from 2004 onward Kaiser Chiefs aimed for the stars with hits such as Oh My God
and Ruby . Unfortunately, the experimental release of 2011 s album The Future is Medieval, for which
fans could pick a ten song track list out of 23 options, turned out to be one step too far, causing the
band to fall back into obscurity. Its follow up, Education, Education, Education and War should have
meant a return to former glory, but failed. Now it is time for a new album, the band uses their position
in the shadows of the industry to reinvent themselves.
The differences between the previous and current Kaiser Chiefs sound could not have been any bigger.

history. As a medical treatment, physical therapy goes back as far as cave dwellers, but was not
considered a profession until World War I. During ancient times many places, worshiped the sun for
its healing powers. Places such as Germany who worshiped and also set up fields where people lay in

therapy as a profession, hyper therapy, cryotherapy, hydrotherapy, and electrotherapy. As a polio
epidemic swept the United States from 1915 through 1917, many therapists services were requested to
help victims recover from the effects of this devastating illness. By the end of World War II, physical
therapy was a widely accepted therapeutic practice. Near the 19th century in Britain, physical therapy
was established, and all of the people being trained were women. The first

Theme Of Laughter In Brave New World
Ignorant New World Why do people laugh? Is it an effect from a witty joke, a nervous tic, or perhaps a
humorous accident? Whatever the reason is, laughter is a contagious and social occurrence. In the
book, Brave New World, there are many circumstances where laughter takes place. However, the
people in the book are laughing for a different reason. They are not necessarily aware of what they are
laughing about. It is not that they are replacing thinking with laughter, instead, they do not have the
ability to comprehend what they are laughing at. They allow laughter to cover up the absence of
understanding something. A lack of individuality paired with society s teachings creates people who
do not know what they are laughing at, nor why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The restraints on which the society functions on causes a lack of exposure to specific topics and ideas.
For instance, the humans are made in labs and do not have families. This causes the people of the
society to not understand family bonds. They are aware of what families are but cannot truly
understand the concept. Families are taught to be viewed as smutty. They are described as suffocating
intimacies, what dangerous, insane, obscene relationships between the member of the family group!
(Aldous Huxley, 37). Additionally, the government also controls what the people do and do not learn.
This can be seen with the hypnopedia. But it goes even deeper than that. There is an erasure of entire
concepts. For instance, there is no such thing as religion within Brave New World. The Controller
explains to the Savage why there is no religion by saying that, God isn t compatible with machinery
and scientific medicine and universal happiness. You must make your choice. Our civilization has
chosen machinery and medicine and happiness (Aldous Huxley, 234). He also states that in order to
achieve stability, you ve got to choose between happiness and what people used to call high art. We ve
sacrificed the high art (Aldous Huxley, 220). These sacrifices create huge gaps in knowledge. It

Guantanamo Bay Thesis
Introduction: Did you know, as American taxpayers, maintaining the prison at Guantánamo has costed
$4.8 billion since it had opened in 2002? Well this al back to The Global War on Terror under the Bush
administration that,. response to the 9/11 attacks, targeted middle eastern regions of the world;,
collecting men from left to right by heavily armed American soldiers. Unfortunately, some of them are
destined to pay for another man s crime by serving time in Guantanamo Bay. Guantanamo Bay,
located within a naval base in Cuba, became a facility purposed to hold alleged enemy combatants and
terrorists alike. Because of later documented injustices reported against detainees, it gained negative
spotlight by both citizens and world leaders. When Obama succeeded in presidency, closing the
facility became one of his priorities for a number of reasons.

Case Study Of Costa Crociere
Costa Crociere S.p.A. is an Italian cruise line company. It was founded in 1854 in Genoa as a cargo
shipping company. In the first decades of the XX century, the operations expanded at great speed until
1947, when passenger transportation services between Italy and South America were introduced. In
the following years the company converted all its business full time cruising and in the 90 s it became
one of the biggest cruise operators in Europe.
Until 1997, Costa Crociere was a family owned business, but that year the majority of its stakes were
sold to Carnival Corporation Plc, an American conglomerate that owns some of the most important
cruise line companies in the world. Costa Crociere, now also known as Costa Cruises Group remained
in control of the Italian operations and became also responsible for AIDA Cruises in Germany ... Show

The numbers of people visiting the island increased exponentially after January 2012, and people were
mainly drawn by the possibility to see the ship relict and take pictures of the disaster. However, Isola

environmental damage caused by fuel leakage and floating ship remains. The chief of the Italian
Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) agreed with the inhabitants and
forecasted a lost, in the worst case scenario, of dozens of millions of euros.
At popular level, De Falco s order phrase to Schettino Vada a bordo, cazzo! ( Go back on board, for

consequences of their actions. Schettino even became an Internet meme in various platforms, such as

Social Conditions During Ww2
The Eastern Front of World War II was heavily taxing on both soldiers and civilian populations
between 1941 and 1942. Specifically, both Soviet civilians and soldiers found themselves with
dwindling supplies, increased work, and taxing psychological and physical conditions. In particular,
thievery and deceit were commonplace as a means for people to survive in the Soviet Union. This was
a result of mismanagement, corruption, and famine which in turn created an environment where
stealing was a necessity for survival. Furthermore, this breakdown of social order can then indicate the
effects of prolonged conflict upon a society. Conditions within the Soviet Union at the time provide
strong causation and reasoning for increased instances of Soviet citizens and soldiers stealing supplies
from one another. Civilians in particular were faced with decreasing ration sizes as the majority of
supplies were being distributed towards soldiers. A diary entry during the fall of 1941 by Liubov Vasil

Firstly, punishment for theft in the Soviet Union was fairly draconian in nature. The same memoir
notes an incident regarding similar teenagers being caught for stealing and punished to several years in
a camp. Later on as well, a man is executed for giving others his ration cards. It is then thought that
such harsh punishment would be a suitable deterrent towards any disruption of social order, yet there
are still instances of thievery primarily of food. This is predictably due to the sheer desperation of the
civilian situation in the Soviet Union at the time. Moreover, it is entirely reasonable that due to the low
amount of rationing and high requirement for work, civilians were either forced to disregard the law
and steal, or face starvation. As a result, the act of theft became a common means for people in the
Soviet Union to physically

Building Consent Application For Demolition
Introduction
In this report I will examine a reflection on a building consent application for the demolition of
Riverside one as called or Shell Store , which is a non listed building in a conservation area, and is
part of the restoration project of the lost 19th century Lower Barrier ditch of Chatham Lines. This is in
the perspective view of the partial and broader regeneration of the town environments and riverfront.
The decision of demolition of this listed building, was taken from an idealistic Masterplan organized
by Medway Council in 2010 for the restoration of the Chatham Gun Wharf site, in respect of broader
communal benefits, equally physical and intellectual, to the nationally important historic defences.
The strategic location of the barrier ditch at Gun Wharf provides the southern point of entry to the
militarized zone and together with the neighbouring site of Fort Amherst, provide the gateway to
Chatham Dockyard s heritage area. In that respect the already standing building called Riverside one
or Shell Store , constructed over the ditch, would require demolition as to provide access and therefore
allow re presentation of the section of Chatham Lines to the west of Dock Road to give a sense of its
original 19th century form.
Some Historic Background about the Gun Wharf ditch and the Riverside One building
In 1860 the Lower Barrier Ditch was partially filled after the end of the Gun Wharf section. The
changes in military needs forced the site to

Sickle Cell Disease (SCD)
Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited and noncontagious, lifelong condition. More specifically, per
Ohaeri, Shokunbi, Akinlade, Dare, 1995, SCD is a generic term for a group of genetic disorders
characterized by the predominance of sickle cell hemoglobin (Hgb). Hemoglobin is a protein in the
red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout the body. The disease produces significantly abnormal
Hgb molecules in red blood cells (RBCs). In sickle cell anemia, the red blood cells become rigid and
sticky and are shaped like sickles or crescent moons. These irregularly shaped cells can get stuck in
small blood vessels, which can slow or block blood flow and oxygen to parts of the body (Ohaeri,

Per a Health Disparities Work Group of the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA), a
simple blood test can show whether a person has sickle cell disease (Sickle cell disease, 2012, p.2).
Infants screening is mandated in the United States before newborn go home from the hospital.
Therefore, patients who present with SCD are typically aware of their diagnosis. However, although
SCD is present at birth, most infants do not have any problems from the disease until they are about 5
or 6 months of age. SCD results in early childhood death if left untreated (Sickle cell disease, 2012,
p.2). Recommended screening tests, noted in Sickle cell disease, 2012, and Paul, Castro, Aggarwal,
Oneal 1995, include hemoglobin electrophoresis, isoelectric focusing, high performance liquid
chromatography or DNA analysis (p. 2 and p. 34). Some of the improvement in survival in sickle cell
disease over the past few decades have been attributed to neonatal screening, facilitating early access
to prophylaxis with penicillin, comprehensive care, and parental education on the early detection of
complications such as acute splenic sequestration (Sickle cell disease, 2012,

Manners And Class Manned In Jane Austen s Pride And Prejudice
Manners and class presented in Pride and Prejudice.
According to Margetson 1980, During the Romantic period in England manners were considered to be
more than just a greeting to one another. Having manners meant you were socially at a higher rank.
According to In Romantic period, their character and self presentation was main key to define their
rank and manners. Jane Austen engages with this idea and talk about the importance of manners
describing the way an individual character behaves according to their class and rank. She meant that
higher classes (who are from a good family and proper education) will automatically have good
manners. And the manners they have are bound up with the property and their class rank. In Pride and
prejudice manners were considered as an aspect to be learned by a society (especially the lower class)
from the higher class people s expectations. However, since manners can be learned and they can also
be lacked, so it is never automatically true that a person from an upper class has good manners.
In Pride and Prejudice , Austen shows the lack of manners and represents the false manners of people.

Biological, Sociological And Developmental Effects On A Child
Over the past decade, play has been the focus of many researches due to its biological, sociological
and developmental effects on a child. Play is understood as a basic human motivation and a phase for
individual development and of cultural assimilation and construction which leads to a specific view on
childhood. Play is sometimes opposed with serious work and learning activities which is not true
because play is an important arena in a child s life. Play is significant for a child s growth,
improvement of the child s welfare and play is also the child s legitimate right. Some people still get
confused between the meaning of play and just having fun. Play, in similar words, is the universal
language of childhood. It is through play that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Play is one of the aspects through which children learn the norms of the society they belong to, its
rules and values. Play is considered as a medium of learning in early childhood and many researches
that are conducted to study play are observational researches which observe children within early
childhood educational settings and also by interviewing their parents, caregivers or educators. There is
an influence of the cultural background and dynamics of the society a child belongs to on the child s
play. Play, is thus, a universal aspect of childhood but it differs from child to child and across time and
space. Play, also transcend species, infant or young animals are also indulged in an activity which is
similar to child s play. (Society, n.d.)
A number of things are necessary to be present for this universal aspect, play, to occur and be
sustained. One of these things is time and space which is frequently associated with poverty and its
absence. If the child belongs to a poverty stricken family or area then there are high chances that he is
involved in labor, whether inside the house or outside, and the chances of him being involved in any
type of play is minimized. Space for play is another issue which has been witnessed due to the growth
in cities which led to a diminution in the availability of space, in general and has thus made space an
issue too. One issue related to play and its universality that has been brought up in

My Religion Is Islam And Because Of Islam
My religion is Islam and because of Islam I have certain beliefs and bias in the religion. And it also
effects my interpersonal communication. Some of the beliefs are listed such as arrange marriages,
living a life with a family, praying, respecting the elders, giving importance to the poor people and
orphans, clothing for women and men.
I live in a country of Pakistan. And we have an Islamic religion. We usually do arrange marriages. The
marriage happened in the presence of the elders. They fix the date and meet with each other family.
Then they exchange gifts and sweets with each other. They make arrangements of marriage by fixing
the date. The groom and bride are not allowed to meet or talk with each other. Sometimes the bride
and groom has not seen each other. Then the date is fixed and necessary arrangements are made for
the bride and groom. All of the arrangements are made by mostly the elders like the bride and groom
close relatives. The purpose of the arrange marriages with the elders permission is to make a long
lasting relationship between the bride and the groom. When the wedding is about to take place, several
witnesses are there to evidence the marriage. Then the bride and groom usually lives in the shelter of
their parents or old relatives. This was done to make sure that everything goes by smoothly and none
of the traditions and culture is ignored. Now there is an era of new generation. And also many people

Anne Bradstreet poem The Prologue was an interesting poem. This is one of her most intellectually

poet. The theme in the poem The Prologue is global and historical context that covers feminisms,
Christianity, and psychology. I like how she writes about feminisms and her showing that even though
she is a female, she can write poems like men do. Her use of meter and rhyme is nearly perfect and it
shows the simple truth she puts in her pieces. Also she showed her true feelings and it helps readers
understand what she is feeling and saying in her work. Another poem that Bradstreet wrote that I like

The Window In Peter Quint s The Turn Of The Screw
Windows in The Turn of the Screw are in two instances the invisible boundary separating the
governess from ghosts. The governess sees Peter Quint twice through a window, once when she is
inside and once outside of the house. Miles looks through windows several times, intently focused on
what the governess thinks appears to be a ghost. A sighting of Peter Quint through a window is also a
catalyst for Miles s death.
It is no coincidence that these events happen at windows. The story is, at least in part, about
boundaries that like windows at once divide and connect people to each other. Windows also allow a
person to see the outside world but in a vacuum, meaning that the person looking out is losing some

was, strangely, only to show me how intense the former had been. ... Something, however, happened
this time that had not happened before; his stare into my face, through the glass and across the room,
was as deep and hard as then, but it quitted me for a moment during which I could still watch it, see it

when she first came upon Quint outside but she is terrified because the mysterious man is closer to
home but she has no context to why he is there. The window cuts her off from the mysterious Quint
and makes her feel scared because no matter how much of a barrier a window is, one is still able to see

The Covenant Of A Covenant
Covenant is a very important idea in both the Old and New Testament. Important covenants revealed
through both Testaments are the Sinai covenant and the crucifixion of Jesus, the new covenant. A
covenant includes five fundamental features which help strengthen the notion that a covenant is an
eternal promise with God, not a relationship that can be broken resulting in legal repercussions.
Firstly, the origin of a covenant will be discussed. Secondly, this paper will shed light on the traits of a
covenant. Lastly, this paper will explain how a covenant differs from a contract. Firstly, the theme of a
covenant originates in both Judaism and Christianity. The major covenant in Judaism is the Sinai
covenant which Yahweh gave to Moses and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of a covenant also originates in the Christian faith, where Jesus is seen as the new covenant
in the New Testament. According to Britannica, [t]he cup of wine at the last supper of Jesus and his
disciples is identified in all New Testament sources as the (new) covenant by Jesus himself ( par27).
The oath taker and the sacrificial victim are important in covenant traditions. The oath taker is
symbolized by the body and bread of Jesus while the sacrificial victims are those who do not fulfill the
covenant. The crucifixion of Jesus reveals the new covenant where God declared that he will make a
new covenant with the people of Israel and that [He] will write the law in their minds and write it on
their hearts. [He] will be their God, and they will be [His] people, (English Standard Version, Jeremiah
31:32 33). By inscribing the law in their hearts and minds, his people will not forget their promise to
Him. In summary, God instilled a covenant in both Judaism and Christianity in which the Sinai
covenant can be seen as the original covenant and Jesus symbolizing the new covenant. Secondly, a
covenant includes five traits such as the preamble, historical prologue, the submission, witnesses, and
the blessings and curses. The origin of a covenant begins as a treaty between a sovereign nation and a
vassal nation which begins with a name . . . [then] describes the previous

Essay on Post-colonial Encounters in the Early 20th Century
Alfred Noyes wrote The Empire Builders at the turn of the twentieth century. Despite the time at
which it was written in, there are various post colonial themes regarding the hierarchy of difference.
The tone of the poem is pessimistic which is understandable since Noyes is writing during the
Naturalist period of English literature. Noyes is speaking to the middle class of England; those who
fulfill their duties as they come (Noyes, 45). He uses the first person plural article to create a
unification between the readers and the narrator. Noyes, in his poem, addresses two postcolonial
themes of Christianity as a vehicle of colonization, and the fallacies of European philosophy. In this
essay, I argue that the themes and structure that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the empire builder has more lines of description, he is situated in a higher category of social
stratification.
Another instrument that allows the empire builder to situate himself in higher categories of hierarchy
is Christianity. Noyes gives Christianity a large amount of agency in the discourse of colonialism.
Christianity was composite in producing Africa as backward. Christianity has two roles: firstly, it is a
method by which the white man created an inferiority complex amongst the natives and secondly it
created a clear distinction between colonizer and native. At the beginning of the poem, he mentions
the superiority of the white man and describes them as the Lord God of battles... (Noyes, 5). By saying
this, he is not only amplifying the inequality between the white man and the native but also
introducing Christianity as a method of creating the divide. On line thirty six, there is a description of
the empire builder as having a shadowy crown of thorn (Noyes, 36). At this point in the poem, Noyes
is slightly empathizing with the empire builder since he has to carry all the burden of the country on
his back. Furthermore, by saying that he has a crown of thorns, Noyes is comparing the status of the
empire builder to that of Jesus Christ, which is establishing the former as the highest authority in
societal hierarchy. Towards the end of the poem, Noyes makes the distinction between heaven and
home. This is

  • 2. The Potential Of Persuasion By Phaedrus And Life Of... Bui Ngo Thanh Truc (Tessa) The Potential of Persuasion in Phaedrus and Life of Demosthenes Persuasion is an essential skill for rhetoricians. Since all a rhetorician needs is not the truth but his own opinion, persuasion is necessary to address the assembly. While persuasion could be used to lead a city to making the right decisions and gaining glory, the power of persuasion could be also abused or used by the wrong person. Demosthenes uses his rhetorical skills to push Athens away from its course of destruction. He also advocates for policies which are beneficial to Athens. Demades and the other orators were supportive of Athens becoming allies which was the wrong course of action because it led to the destruction of Athens. Someone could misuse their skill of persuasion due to lack of knowledge and morality. Good orators can also have flaws, like Demosthenes and his susceptibility to bribery. The negative potential can be reduced if the rhetoricians are philosophers and knowledgeable of ethics. Socrates and Phaedrus s discussion shows how truth is relative to whoever is most persuasive. While Plutarch does not state any solutions to reducing negative potential in rhetorical speeches, Plato s method for giving a persuasive speech worthy of praise is by dialectic speech. Both Plato and Plutarch acknowledge the power of rhetoric and persuasion to affect the course of events in both a positive and negative way and recognize the problem that comes with it. First, persuasion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Democracy And Its Lack Of Democracy Throughout Plato s Republic in Book VIII, readers are caught up in the conversation about four unjust structures that each structure will succeed the other as society decays. The four unjust structures are explained throughout dialogue and described as timocracy, oligarchy, democracy, and tyranny. Most shocking critique throughout the discussion is about democracy and its ineffectiveness to rule. Plato s disagreement of democracy does not involve of what we are acquainted with today, but rather the idea of democracy. Plato explores the central strain of the government that is acknowledged with liberty and fairness. Also, this form of government known for its embracement of freedom and equality. Plato s description and disagreement about democracy is correct because the consequences of such government is that it leads the population to pursue unnecessary desires. Democracy is the type of government where the rule comes from people. Democracy, as we know it today, gives power to the many and in turn give most importance to the idea of obtaining freedom. Freedom empowers people to pursue their desires and obtain every opportunity they can acquire. People in this government have unlimited mobility and have free speech to their ideas and beliefs. However, Plato s argument is that this freedom will the downfall for this type of government and how people are fueled with their intent to obtain their desire. The enjoyment of free speech can backfire as every citizen is entitled to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Comparing Freud And Nietzsche s On The Genealogy Of This essay will focus on two theorists, Friedrich Nietzsche, a nineteenth century German philosopher and cultural theorist and Sigmund Freud, a twentieth century Austrian neurologist and father of psychoanalysis. I will be discussing Freud and Nietzsche and their theories on culture, primarily concentrating on Freud s Civilization and its Discontents and Nietzsche s On the Genealogy of Morals: A Polemic, but will also utilise some secondary reading in its analysis. Nietzsche died in Germany in August 1900 at the age of 55, after many years of ill mental and physical health. Before his death and due to his mental instability, Nietzsche s sister, Elisabeth Förster, became editor of his works. Förster held extreme nationalistic views and rewrote ... He thought that humans were initially motivated by the pleasure principle, which seeks gratification and is obeyed by the unconscious id. However, the pleasure principle is restricted by the reality principle, which is developed by the ego in early infancy. Without the reality principle, civilization could not function, as it enables us to postpone satisfaction. As well as this, if the id remained unchecked and the pleasure principle always obeyed, the pleasure we feel upon receipt of our desires would be lessened. As Freud asserts, what we call happiness ... arises from the fairly sudden satisfaction of pent up needs [therefore,] it can be no more than an episodic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. A Comparison of Blake, Wordsworth and Keats A Comparison of Blake, Wordsworth and Keats William Blake, John Keats and William Wordsworth all believe in the depth of the world and the possibilities of the human heart. However, each poet looks towards different periods in time to capture meaning in life. Blake looks towards the future for his inspiration, Keats towards the present and Wordsworth towards the past. Regardless of where each poet looks for their inspiration they are all looking for the same thing; timeless innocence. Each poet sought to transcend time by creating works that dealt with life, death, hope and imagination and to discover some kind of deep truth or meaning in existence. Life and death is an issue that we will all have to deal with at some point in our life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Technological advancement and social progress were steps backwards for Wordsworth and thus he looked to the past for his inspiration. John Keats did not have the luxury time that Wordsworth had to look to the past and reminisce about things that were because he knew he did not have long to live. Even from a young age Keats felt his life would be a short one and he so he applied himself to his art with a desperate urgency . Keats died at twenty six years old and managed to leave behind some of the greatest poetry ever written. He didn t bother to look toward the future because he knew that he wouldn t live to see it and he didn t look to the past because he decided that it was more important to live in the moment. Keats was very aware of his own mortality and his poetry reflected the intensity and the passion of a man who didn t have very long to live. His poetry remains some of the densest prose ever penned because, like his brief existence, he had to condense so much life into so little space. The thought of impending death would be enough to make anyone fall into hopeless despair but Keats s incredible talents and commitment to live in the moment perhaps allowed him to three lifetimes. The Chimney Sweeper is a quintessential Blake poem as it embodies his belief in looking towards the future for hope and comfort. Additionally, the poem is a perfect example of a child s movement from innocence to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Socialization Of Mass Media The mass media participates in this hegemonic process in the way it reveals the social status and economic class. The mainstream news media often commends the prosperity and values of the dominant class and weakens the dignity of the working people. This happens largely through the corporate monopolization and can be seen through analyzing the dominant ideologies of consumerism, competition and democracy within modern society. Preserving control over people s minds is a fundamental element of the political power required to maintain the capitalist economic system. Herman and Chomsky provide a propaganda model that can be used as an agenda to further examine how the media serves the ends of a dominant elite. The consumer culture is one of the primary forms of domination and can often interfere with our identities in destructive ways. Companies use the media as a system of communication to increase commodity consumption in order to generate profit for capitalists. Mainstream news media are profit driven businesses owned by corporations and are largely funded by advertisers. Advertising was a significant innovative expansion that influenced the formation of the consumer. The goal of advertisers was to aggressively shape consumer desires and create value in commodities by imbuing them with the power to transform the consumer into a more desirable person (C. Colaguori, 2013, p.173). When linking values to commodities, advertisers are implanting insecurities and fears ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Beatles And Their Music An entire generation in Cold War Soviet Russia was born to a nuclear bomb, raised under the constant threat of war, and seemed doomed to suffocate by their own government, until they were emancipated by a life force that was as formidable as unlikely a savior. This paper discusses the role of the Beatles and their music in the cultural, political and social revolutions that took place Cold War Russia. Drawing upon various conversations and anecdotes that Leslie Woodhead discusses in his 2013 book How The Beatles Rocked the Kremlin , this paper attempts to also understand how contemporary Russia has evolved to carry with herself the revolutionary spirit of the Beatles. As reiterated upon by various interviewees in different capacities, it is important that one must preface any discussion of the Beatles in the Soviet Union with a historical context of the country in the 1960s. It is indeed impossible to guess whether the Beatles would have had the impact they made on another historical generation, but the Soviet population in the mid sixties certainly lived in a time that was fertile ground for the arrival of the Beatles (Woodhead, 23). In those early years of the Cold War, Nikita Khrushchev and his efforts in spearheading Russia in the international space race, along with his thawing of political, economic and cultural restrictions were a source of a nationwide zeal and pride. In 1933 began to focus on music rather than on visual art, and moved to New York, and later to California (UCLA), to study with Schoenberg. In Cage s autobiography, he mentions: When I asked Schoenberg to teach me, he said, You probably can t afford my price. I said, Don t mention it; I don t have any money. He said, Will you devote your life to music? This time I said Yes. He said he would teach me free of charge. I gave up painting and concentrated on music. The style of Hart Crane is nearly unmatched. Here he uses a free verse structure, written as a Blackwood Article, in a story that depicts an event which is the theme and the subject of the poem. He uses little rhyme, with any structure, but the words flow from frame to frame as though a rhyme scheme had been used quite frivolously. There is also a great deal of imagery. A good amount of emphasis is placed upon the hands, the lifeblood of our interaction with the world, and as the hands are described against the sunlight we can nearly see a picture perfect masterpiece within our minds that helps us along in the story. There is also a well hidden hint at imagery here; quot; His own hands seemed to him Like wings of butterflies quot;, means quite clearly, that he has most recently undergone a ... Like Water For Chocolate By John Brown Seduction Essay My grandmother had a very interesting theory; she said that each of us is born with a box of matches inside us but we can t strike them by ourselves; just as in the experiment, we need oxygen and a candle to help. Dr. John Brown, Ch.6 Pg 115 Within chapter six of Like Water for Chocolate, Dr. John Brown had declared this quotation to Tita whilst performing a lab experiment in front of her. At first, I began to think that there is a sense of seduction behind Dr. Brown s statement. This can be backed up because Dr. Brown does develop admiration when looked at Tita in chapter 4 of page 74. Or in other words, he does acquire love feelings for Tita when he heard that she delivered Rosaura s baby by herself without no experience needed. Dr. Brown also hadn t felt any sort of sensation for a women ever since his wife died five years prior. Initially, that s what I thought Dr. Brown s motive was. Like for example, the birth of Roberto ignited Tita to have a new, fond connections with Pedro and Rosaura. This mimics the explosion that is generated from oxygen and the candle. Without that event from happening, then Tita wouldn t have felt as positive as she ended up being in the April chapter. For example, Cerebral Palsy children may not be able to walk like a regular person, or ride a bike like a regular child. Unfortunately, the experimental release of 2011 s album The Future is Medieval, for which fans could pick a ten song track list out of 23 options, turned out to be one step too far, causing the band to fall back into obscurity. Its follow up, Education, Education, Education and War should have meant a return to former glory, but failed. Now it is time for a new album, the band uses their position in the shadows of the industry to reinvent themselves. The differences between the previous and current Kaiser Chiefs sound could not have been any bigger. Whatever the reason is, laughter is a contagious and social occurrence. In the book, Brave New World, there are many circumstances where laughter takes place. However, the people in the book are laughing for a different reason. They are not necessarily aware of what they are laughing about. It is not that they are replacing thinking with laughter, instead, they do not have the ability to comprehend what they are laughing at. Specifically, both Soviet civilians and soldiers found themselves with dwindling supplies, increased work, and taxing psychological and physical conditions. In particular, thievery and deceit were commonplace as a means for people to survive in the Soviet Union. This was a result of mismanagement, corruption, and famine which in turn created an environment where stealing was a necessity for survival. Furthermore, this breakdown of social order can then indicate the effects of prolonged conflict upon a society. Conditions within the Soviet Union at the time provide strong causation and reasoning for increased instances of Soviet citizens and soldiers stealing supplies from one another. • 30. Building Consent Application For Demolition Introduction In this report I will examine a reflection on a building consent application for the demolition of Riverside one as called or Shell Store , which is a non listed building in a conservation area, and is part of the restoration project of the lost 19th century Lower Barrier ditch of Chatham Lines. This is in the perspective view of the partial and broader regeneration of the town environments and riverfront. The decision of demolition of this listed building, was taken from an idealistic Masterplan organized by Medway Council in 2010 for the restoration of the Chatham Gun Wharf site, in respect of broader communal benefits, equally physical and intellectual, to the nationally important historic defences. The strategic location of the barrier ditch at Gun Wharf provides the southern point of entry to the militarized zone and together with the neighbouring site of Fort Amherst, provide the gateway to Chatham Dockyard s heritage area. In that respect the already standing building called Riverside one or Shell Store , constructed over the ditch, would require demolition as to provide access and therefore allow re presentation of the section of Chatham Lines to the west of Dock Road to give a sense of its original 19th century form. More specifically, per Ohaeri, Shokunbi, Akinlade, Dare, 1995, SCD is a generic term for a group of genetic disorders characterized by the predominance of sickle cell hemoglobin (Hgb). Hemoglobin is a protein in the red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout the body. The disease produces significantly abnormal Hgb molecules in red blood cells (RBCs). In sickle cell anemia, the red blood cells become rigid and sticky and are shaped like sickles or crescent moons. According to Margetson 1980, During the Romantic period in England manners were considered to be more than just a greeting to one another. Having manners meant you were socially at a higher rank. According to In Romantic period, their character and self presentation was main key to define their rank and manners. Jane Austen engages with this idea and talk about the importance of manners describing the way an individual character behaves according to their class and rank. She meant that higher classes (who are from a good family and proper education) will automatically have good manners. And the manners they have are bound up with the property and their class rank. In Pride and prejudice manners were considered as an aspect to be learned by a society (especially the lower class) from the higher class people s expectations. The oath taker and the sacrificial victim are important in covenant traditions. Despite the time at which it was written in, there are various post colonial themes regarding the hierarchy of difference. The tone of the poem is pessimistic which is understandable since Noyes is writing during the Naturalist period of English literature. Noyes is speaking to the middle class of England; those who fulfill their duties as they come (Noyes, 45). He uses the first person plural article to create a unification between the readers and the narrator. Noyes, in his poem, addresses two postcolonial themes of Christianity as a vehicle of colonization, and the fallacies of European philosophy. Since the empire builder has more lines of description, he is situated in a higher category of social stratification. Another instrument that allows the empire builder to situate himself in higher categories of hierarchy is Christianity. Noyes gives Christianity a large amount of agency in the discourse of colonialism. Christianity was composite in producing Africa as backward. Christianity has two roles: firstly, it is a method by which the white man created an inferiority complex amongst the natives and secondly it created a clear distinction between colonizer and native. At the beginning of the poem, he mentions the superiority of the white man and describes them as the Lord God of battles... (Noyes, 5). By saying this, he is not only amplifying the inequality between the white man and the native but also introducing Christianity as a method of creating the divide. On line thirty six, there is a description of the empire builder as having a shadowy crown of thorn (Noyes, 36). At this point in the poem, Noyes is slightly empathizing with the empire builder since he has to carry all the burden of the country on his back. Furthermore, by saying that he has a crown of thorns, Noyes is comparing the status of the empire builder to that of Jesus Christ, which is establishing the former as the highest authority in societal hierarchy. Towards the end of the poem, Noyes makes the distinction between heaven and home. This is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
