Evaluation Question 2 How Effective is the Combination of Your
Main Product and Ancillary Texts?
- Glasses
There are various elements that are present across all the types of work. One example of this is the
circle glasseswornbythe leadsinger.Theseglassesare showninthe videoonthe leadsingerandthe
guitaristandthenagainon the CD Digipakonthe leadsinger. These bestrepresentthe artistinaway
that makesthemstand out andlookdifferent toyourtypical performer.The glassesmake the artists
look different which catches the audiences eye. This is wanted for a punk band as the type of music
produced is classed as alternative and different therefore it fits the stereotype for the genre.
- Clothing(Mask)
Another element that is common across all types of work is the clothing used for the artists. Black
colouredclothingiskeptpersistentacrossthe CDDigipakandthe musicvideo.Asweare apunkband,
we felt this coloured clothing would fit the genre best and make the band look more punk. Black
representsdanger,angerandanintimidatingnature whichfitsthe videoandthe genre.Furthermore,
anotherexampleisthe maskshownacrossall three texts.Thesebestrepresentthe artistsasitmakes
him a mysterious character making the audience wonder who is behind the mask, which is revealed
at the endof the musicvideoto be the leadsinger. The mask createsa tense atmosphere whichwe
felt fits the song perfectly and the punk genre. Which is why it is shown across all texts.
- FontStyles (OratorStd)
Fontstyle of textwas somethingwe keptconsistentacrossall of the texts.The reasonfor thisis
because itcreatesa sense of familiarityforthe audience,the viewingof the fontstyle shouldmake
themrealise itisa RENEGADE product.Moreover,the fontstyle we usedrepresentsthe punkgenre
well asit isdifferentthanyourusual fontstyle,whichfitsthe punkgenre perfectly.
- RecordLabel
We have brandedourproductswiththe bands recordlabel onthe CD DigipakandAdvertPosters.
We feltthiswouldcreate asense of brandingforthe band andmake the audience realise thatthey
are a legitimate band.
- ColourScheme
Our colourscheme of black, white,redandgreyis seencommonlyacrossall productsproduced.The
reasonforthiscolourschemeisbecausewe feel representsthe songandthe genre thebest.The black
element of the colour scheme represents danger, anger and an intimidating nature which fits the
video and the genre. Using white as a text colour allows the text to stand out clearly to the reader.
The redelementof the colourschemeportraysbloodandviolence whichisseenthroughoutourvideo
and could be indicated through the CD digipakand Magazine Advert Posters due to the mask being
shownas well as“The Hunter”. Grey representsthe mysteriousnature alsoof the products we have
produced and links to the black and white filter used on our music video.
-Hair Styles
Hair styles of our artists are kept consistent throughout our media products as we wanted them to
appear as proper punk artists. Having different hair styles would create confusion for the audience
and they wouldn’t be able to connect with them properly.
-Lighting
Lighting has been kept consistent across our media products. Limiting it to fairly low light lightingas
we wantedourartiststobe seenasmysteriousasitrepresentsthe videoandthe nature of the music.
Having bright colourful lighting wouldn’t fit the conventions of the punk genre and therefore this is
why we made it this way.
Elementswe didn’t include –
We decidednottoinclude the elementof ouraxe throughoutourmediaproductsaswe feltthis
wouldmake ourproductsappear as horror products andwouldlimitourtargetaudience because of
this.
Anotherelementwe decidednottoshow whichwasa big part of our musicvideowasthe element
of the flashbackshowing“The Hunter”asa little kid. The reasonforthisis because we wantedthis
elementof ourmusicvideotobe a shockwhenwatchingitand not revealinganythingthroughour
otherproducts.Also,the audience wouldgetconfusedshowingimagesof “The Hunter”as a kidon
the CD Digipakor Magazine Advertas itwouldn’tmake sense withoutpresentingthe ideaasa full
video.

  • 1. Evaluation Question 2 How Effective is the Combination of Your Main Product and Ancillary Texts? - Glasses There are various elements that are present across all the types of work. One example of this is the circle glasseswornbythe leadsinger.Theseglassesare showninthe videoonthe leadsingerandthe guitaristandthenagainon the CD Digipakonthe leadsinger. These bestrepresentthe artistinaway that makesthemstand out andlookdifferent toyourtypical performer.The glassesmake the artists look different which catches the audiences eye. This is wanted for a punk band as the type of music produced is classed as alternative and different therefore it fits the stereotype for the genre. - Clothing(Mask) Another element that is common across all types of work is the clothing used for the artists. Black colouredclothingiskeptpersistentacrossthe CDDigipakandthe musicvideo.Asweare apunkband, we felt this coloured clothing would fit the genre best and make the band look more punk. Black representsdanger,angerandanintimidatingnature whichfitsthe videoandthe genre.Furthermore, anotherexampleisthe maskshownacrossall three texts.Thesebestrepresentthe artistsasitmakes him a mysterious character making the audience wonder who is behind the mask, which is revealed at the endof the musicvideoto be the leadsinger. The mask createsa tense atmosphere whichwe felt fits the song perfectly and the punk genre. Which is why it is shown across all texts. - FontStyles (OratorStd) Fontstyle of textwas somethingwe keptconsistentacrossall of the texts.The reasonfor thisis because itcreatesa sense of familiarityforthe audience,the viewingof the fontstyle shouldmake themrealise itisa RENEGADE product.Moreover,the fontstyle we usedrepresentsthe punkgenre well asit isdifferentthanyourusual fontstyle,whichfitsthe punkgenre perfectly. - RecordLabel We have brandedourproductswiththe bands recordlabel onthe CD DigipakandAdvertPosters. We feltthiswouldcreate asense of brandingforthe band andmake the audience realise thatthey are a legitimate band. - ColourScheme Our colourscheme of black, white,redandgreyis seencommonlyacrossall productsproduced.The reasonforthiscolourschemeisbecausewe feel representsthe songandthe genre thebest.The black element of the colour scheme represents danger, anger and an intimidating nature which fits the video and the genre. Using white as a text colour allows the text to stand out clearly to the reader. The redelementof the colourschemeportraysbloodandviolence whichisseenthroughoutourvideo and could be indicated through the CD digipakand Magazine Advert Posters due to the mask being shownas well as“The Hunter”. Grey representsthe mysteriousnature alsoof the products we have produced and links to the black and white filter used on our music video. -Hair Styles Hair styles of our artists are kept consistent throughout our media products as we wanted them to appear as proper punk artists. Having different hair styles would create confusion for the audience and they wouldn’t be able to connect with them properly.
  • 2. -Lighting Lighting has been kept consistent across our media products. Limiting it to fairly low light lightingas we wantedourartiststobe seenasmysteriousasitrepresentsthe videoandthe nature of the music. Having bright colourful lighting wouldn’t fit the conventions of the punk genre and therefore this is why we made it this way. Elementswe didn’t include – We decidednottoinclude the elementof ouraxe throughoutourmediaproductsaswe feltthis wouldmake ourproductsappear as horror products andwouldlimitourtargetaudience because of this. Anotherelementwe decidednottoshow whichwasa big part of our musicvideowasthe element of the flashbackshowing“The Hunter”asa little kid. The reasonforthisis because we wantedthis elementof ourmusicvideotobe a shockwhenwatchingitand not revealinganythingthroughour otherproducts.Also,the audience wouldgetconfusedshowingimagesof “The Hunter”as a kidon the CD Digipakor Magazine Advertas itwouldn’tmake sense withoutpresentingthe ideaasa full video.
