G325: Section B, Contemporary Media Issues

Our Topic - Contemporary Media Regulation

One hour to answer one question from a choice of two.

The question is worth 50 marks (50% of the paper, 25% of your a level)

Mark allocation – Terminology 10 marks (using accurate media language)

                Examples 20 marks (using your case studies and examples from class from
                both film and video games to discuss past, present and future)

                Analysis 20 marks (creating an argument, supporting your points with
                theory, discussing effect on audiences)

Example question – Discuss the arguments for and against media regulation in relation to
two specific examples of current regulatory practice form different media.

Essay Plan

Introduction – Discuss which forms of media you will analyse

              Discuss which regulatory bodies you will be comparing

              Refer to a past example of regulatory practice

              Use terms from the question

Main of essay – This should be formed from several paragraphs that offer an argument for
and against the point in the question

              Discuss both Medias and regulatory bodies.

              Each paragraph should include content from your contemporarycase studies

              You should support the point you are making by using theory.

              You should personally engage with your argument.

              You should keep referring back to the question and its terms.

Conclusion – this should be a brief summary of your argument

              Do you agree or disagree with the question?

              What do you think the future of regulation is?
