The document discusses how the film, poster, and review work together and relate to each other. Some key points:
- The film, poster, and review all represent the theme of entrapment and explore it through the character's daily routine and mental state.
- Stylistic elements like simplistic layout and representation of the social realism genre are common across tasks.
- The review and poster add extra layers of meaning, with the poster depicting a maze in the eye and review comparing the film to a previous work.
- While communicating the same overall message, the poster uses the maze which is not directly in the film, acting as a mediating representation.

Disaster recovery shouldn’t run on late nights and coffee aloneJosh Mazgelis
Like a good cup of coffee, business continuity requires a thoughtful blend of ingredients. As manager of your IT infrastructure, you're as familiar with your computer inventory as you are with the handle of your coffee mug. Your business, your customers, however, see only applications and services and not the machines that make them possible. Understanding the relationship between business applications and the specific infrastructure that supports them is critical to creating a really tasty brew.
It could take two pots of coffee just to determine what you have in your computer inventory, much less why it might be important. In this discussion we will look at the disconnect between IT and business, and look at ways to help bridge the gap between the two.
Following this webinar, you’ll understand how business services can be connected with the underlying IT infrastructure so you can be assured your business continuity plans will always work. You might also win coffee – really good coffee! But you’ll have to join our chief storyteller, Josh Mazgelis, to find out:
-Why it's important to map business services to IT infrastructure
-Understanding risks to disaster recovery capabilities
-When to drink it black, and when to add cream and sugar

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
1. EVALUATION QUESTION 2
How effective is the combination of your main product and
ancillary texts?
How/why do my three products synergies and what is the
effect/significance of this synergy?
3. HOW DOES MY REVIEW INFORM MY
AUDIENCE ABOUT MY FILM?
This informs my audience
of the environment that my
short is set in and the issue
of whether enough
attention has been paid to
properly establish the
correct class and status.
This is informing the
audience of the themes and
issues that run throughout
my film. It also indicates to
the audience that the risk
for the main character is
mental issues.
This immediately
informs the audience
that there is no
dialogue in my short.
This informs the
audience of the
shooting style and also
tells them a
comparison.
4. HOW DOES THE WAY THAT THE REVIEW ATTRACTS AN
AUDIENCE TO MY FILM DIFFER FROM THE WAY THAT
MY POSTER DOES? (DIFFERENT FUNCTIONS AND
PURPOSES)
• The difference between how my film poster and review attracts an
audience enables me to reach a wider audience. My review is much
more likely to attract a niche audience or university students who are
have an interest in film studies because it goes into greater detail and
analysis of the film itself. My film poster on the other hand attracts a
broader audience, it can attract younger people because of the visual
stimulation this can also be used to attract art students or photography
students. The reviews function and purpose is to analyse and critic the
film whereas the poster is to be aesthetically pleasing for audiences and
allows them to create an idea for themselves from the original
photography.
5. IS MY REVIEW IN ANY WAY BIASED AND
WHAT MIGHT THE IMPACT OF THIS BE?
• I made sure that my review wasn’t biased because I knew that if it was
then it could have had a negative impact and I wouldn't of been able to
properly critic the poorly executed elements of my short film and it
wouldn't of been fair. One thing I done to make sure the review wasn't
biased was to keep the film’s title the same. If I had changed the title
then it would of given me one less think to critic and analyse. If my
review had been biased then an audience may be less likely to see it
because they may believe that I am not being truthful about the film.
6. FROM READING THE REVIEW WHAT DE WE
LEARN/UNDERSTAND ABOUT THE GENRE
OF/AUDIENCE FOR/DIRECTOR’S RATIONALE BEHIND
THE FILM?
• From reading the review it is clear that the genre is Social Realism as it
stated in the review straight away.
• From carrying out quantitative and qualitative research I have prior
knowledge as to the audience of a film magazine review being for a
niche audience who are better educated in film studies. We get the
sense of this from the review through the analytic language used and
the unpacking of the film.
• The directors rationale behind the film is to create an aesthetically
pleasing yet an uncomfortable trapped environment for the audience so
that they understand what the risks of having the same tedious routine
can have on your mentality.
7. HOW EFFECTIVELY DOES MY FILM REVIEW
BREAK DOWN THE THEMES AND ISSUES
THAT ARE CHIEF CONCERN OF MY FILM?
• The review briefly touches upon the themes and issues throughout with
the only real in-depth exploration of them being near to the end of the
review. This isn’t effective as it doesn't immediately tell the audience
what the film is going revolve around, however there is a brief outline of
what happens in the short at the start of the review. There are also
comparisons to the issues in previous work and how it links in with Full
Circle.
9. WHEN WE FIRST LOOK AT THE POSTER WHAT
IS IT THAT WE LEARN FROM THE GENRE AND
THE AUDIENCE FOR THE FILM OR MAGAZINE?
When first looking at the poster we
learn that the audience for this film is
niche because of the film awards that it
has received and the quote from a
critic stating that the film is a short.
The poster indicates to us that it is in
the genre of Social Realism because of
the simplistic layout and the muted
colors which gives of a natural vibe.
Some may get confused as to whether there is any Sci-Fi elements in the
film because of the characters eye however, when reading the film review
it is explained why the eye is that way.
10. HOW DOES IT REPRESENT THE THEME
AND ISSUES/ TEXTUAL ANALYSIS
AREAS?
The poster represents the issue of entrapment and a limbo because of
the maze that has been placed in the characters eye. The font that is
used for the title looks refined and crisp which represents the editing
style of the film. The tagline also reinforces the issue of whether or not
you can find an escape for the everyday routine.
11. WHAT JOB IS THE POSTER DOING TO GIVE US MORE
INFORMATION ABOUT THE FILM, IS IT
CONSTRUCTING REPRESENTATIONS OF ITS OWN TO
HELP US UNDERSTAND THE FILM?
The maze and the tagline work
simultaneously together to give
more information on the chaos
that is inside the characters mind
in the film. This can also construct
representations of its own to help
understand how difficult it is to
find a way out when you are
trapped mentally. It also helps to
promote the acting and the
editorial style of the film through
both quotes. This helps an
audience understand the rhythm
of the film and what sort of
journey they are going to be
taken on.
12. HOW EFFECTIVELY DOES THE POSTER
REFLECT THE STYLE/TONE OF THE FILM?
The style of the poster is simplistic which reflects the genre of the film. It
also reflects the style of acting because of the “new up and coming”
statement about the actor which is much more true to life because of his
lack of experience in Social Realism shorts. The sunken in eye reflects the
tedious tone of the film and the retentiveness of the characters daily
routine.
14. WHAT STYLISTIC ELEMENTS ARE COMMON
TO BOTH THE MAIN AND ANCILLARY TASKS?
• The stylistic elements common to the ancillary tasks are the simplistic
layout and how there is not too much ‘business’ going on in them, this is
also the same with the main task however when the characters routine
becomes hectic that is when the difference comes in.
• Another stylistic element that is common throughout all three tasks is
the representation of the Social Realism genre.
15. WHAT KEY THEMATIC ELEMENTS ARE COMMON TO
BOTH THE MAIN AND ANCILLARY TASKS? HOW ARE
THESE EXPLORED/REPRESENTED DIFFERENTLY IN
EACH?
• Key thematic elements that are common to both the poster and the main
task is the issue of entrapment with the poster showing a maze in the
characters eye and the issue of the character being trapped in his work
routine.
• Another key thematic element that is common to both the main and
ancillary tasks is the use of original photography, all images are different
in each task.
16. DO THE REVIEW AND POSTER COMMUNICATE
THE SAME MESSAGE AND MEANING AS THE
FILM OR DO THEY MEDIATE?
• The review and the poster alongside with the film all communicate the
same message and meaning and entrapment and mental disability.
These are represented though the placement of the character in
different shots and the still images this being boxy with close
proximities.
• The only mediation that could be said to exist is the use of the maze in
the film poster and how that originated from the title of the film because
there is no reference or use of a maze within the actual short.
17. HOW DO THE REVIEW AND POSTER REFERENCE TO
PROMOTE/DEEPEN OUR
UNDERSTANDING/INTRODUCE EXTRA LAYERS OF
MEANING INTO THE FILM?
• The use of a maze in the characters eye within the film poster deepens
and adds extra layers of meaning into the film by saying that the
characters journey is like a maze and he has to find his way out.
• The review also adds extra layers of meaning into the film by making
reference to Aurélien Recoing’s character, Vincent in the 2001 French
feature fil, called Time Out, directed by Laurent Cantet and how this
short is a “marvelous prediction of the story that came before that
event.”
18. WHAT NARRATIVE ELEMENTS ARE COMMON
TO BOTH MAIN AND ANCILLARY TASKS?
• The narrative elements common in both the main and ancillary tasks is
the fact that the story only follows one character and one problem
throughout the whole short. Although the title is Full Circle, the maze in
the poster suggests that the character does find a way out of his routine
which is a narrative elements that is common in the review and the film
as well.
