Clara married Esteban Trueba, a man who was harsh, quick to react. During the
patriarchal society, women were a man s possession. They had few rights and
were exploited and sometimes rejected by men (Metzger). Clara doesn t put up

The Effects Of Drinking On College Students
During the day and age of being a youth, it is very common to make decisions without
thinking and not understanding the risks that come with them. Alcohol has been a
major influence on college students and many of these students are unaware of the
damage that is being caused by abusing it. What students in this age group do not
understand is that their brainis still developing slowly and this process does not finish
until they reach adulthood. Drinking can have harmful effects on the development of
the brain, which has a major impact on the student as they age. College is a very
stressful time period for some and a common mistake is students abusing the amount
of alcoholthey consume to cope with the stress they have. The question that comes to
my mind is why do those who are fully aware of what they re doing to themselves
continue to drink? This issue needs to be addressed more strictly to prevent damage
on college students. They are working their hardest to achieve the goals that they
want and find themselves potentially being affected by a destructive habit. Alcohol
can affect a student past the textbook since some effects are permanent.
Peer pressure is a commonly associated term to describe others in a group pressuring
you to do something because a majority is. When the question of drinking comes to
my mind, I believe that the most common reason that students drink is simply the fact
that everybody else is associating themselves with it too and they are trying to
Biography Of William Edward Burghart Dubois Essay
Intro/Education/Work: William Edward Burghart DuBois, more commonly known
as W.E.B. DuBois, was born February 23, 1868. Raised in Great Barrington,
Massachusetts, he grew up in what was considered to be a moderately well integrated
and tolerant community. His mother s family was included in the miniscule
population of free black peoplebecause of this, he was certainly considered
privileged as opposed to people of color who were much less fortunate or who
lived in highly segregated communities. DuBois attended the town s local public
school, both elementary and high school levels, and excelled. His teachers
recognized his abilities and often encouraged him in his academic pursuits. DuBois
graduated at the top of his class in 1884, and he was determined to attend college as
well. DuBois was set on attending Harvard, however, he didn t have the funds
available to do so. With receiving donations of twenty five dollars a year from from
four different congregational churches in his hometown of Great Barrington, DuBois
was able to attend Fisk University instead. Fisk University is a historically black
college, located in Nashville, Tennessee. DuBois attended Fisk from 1885 to 1888.
Having traveled south to attend Fisk, DuBois had his first experience with southern
racism, which, at that time, included lynchings and intense bigotry, and many states
in the south were governed by Jim Crow laws. During the summer, he taught in
community schools and learned more
Why Is Scientology Unethical
Scientology is a form of religious beliefs and practices created in 1954 by Ron
Hubbard. It was designed as a program called Dianetics. The organization quickly
entered bankruptcy and Hubbard lost the rights to Dianetics. He then recharacterized
the subject as a religion and renamed it Scientology, retaining almost everything.
Within some time, he managed to regain the rights to Dianetics and kept both issues
under the Church of Scientology. Scientology is a religious based on the seeking of
self knowledge and spiritual fulfillment through graded courses for which you need
to study and train. They believe that people are immortal spiritual beings that are in a
physical body. Scientology believes that Man is good, that he is seeking to survive,
(and) that his survival depends on himself and his attainment of brotherhood with the
universe, as stated in the Church of Scientology. But the... Show more content on

But, they are notorious for keeping themselves and the public in the dark about any
bad news by their belief of how important Scientology is. Tarnishing Scientology s
image and hurting it the worst crime a member could be accused of in the religion.
Real problems and issues caused by the church are over looked by members because
of their firm belief in the leader. Scientology slanders its critics to the point that it
misleads its members. Any complaints, no matter how accurate, are seen as attacks in
the eyes of their members. Scientology as a religion purports to be centered around
the fundamental principles of science. However, it has historically resisted any actual
scientific study. Their scientific beliefs devolved into if the leader says it, it must be
true and that is well documented throughout the churches history. As such,
Scientology is stagnant and fundamentally flawed, because it has no room for

the vision of the Civil Rights Movement altogether. The Olympic setting produced a
much larger audience for this protest, challenging prior Olympic ideals in which

Bram Stoker And The Vampire Essay
Death and the unknown has always been a source of man s greatest fear. The
vampire serves as a physical manifestation of this fear an immortal creature that feeds
on the blood of the innocent. As dangerous as they are, vampires are alluring they
possess an aura of glamour . Vampires have long crept into our imaginations from the
lusty romance novel, Twilight to Bram Stokers Dracula. While most people tend to
believe that all vampires come from Transylvania, are slender, and can transform into
bats, Stoker did not create the vampire. Vampires existed long before except they
were revenants; animated corpses of evil beings, with origins dating back to
Mesopotamia, Ancient India and Serbia. The belief in vampires originates from the
ignorance that people had during their time regarding postmortem decay, illnesses
/ diseases and other unexplainable events. With the accounts of Peter Plogojowitz,
Arnod Paole, and the Shoemaker of Silesia, it can be determined that although these
accounts provide sufficient and accurate data, they are inaccurate in their
interpretations. This is due to the lack of knowledge and experience in physiology,
pathology and anatomy of the human body.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Fighting In Hockey
Professional hockey players eat, sleep, and breathe the game. This passion breeds
a rare type of diehard fan to follow the sport. The game of hockey is over 100 years
old and fighting is one element that has kept players engaged and fans hooked
throughout the years. The first indoor hockey game was played in 1875 and the
NHL was formed 42 years later in 1917. In 1922, fighting was added to the rule
book as a regulated aspect of the game. Looking at the history of hockey shines a
light on the players and fans passion for the game. Hockey fights should stay in the
game for the protection and safety of skilled players, rivalries between teams, and

In the event that a player makes a dirty hit on a skilled player, the enforcer s role is
to send a message to the other team. For fear that a skilled player will be hurt and
unable to play, an enforcer will take matters into his own hands. As a result, skilled
players feel protected and can do their job of scoring goals more effectively. All
things considered, fighters are there for protection, not violence. Fighting as part
of the game reduces injuries drastically. At the present time, fighting in the NHL is
being heavily debated and there are two very different sides to the argument. In
the meantime, with the stricter regulations against fighting, NHL injuries are at an
all time high. My coach, Kelly Chase a retired NHL enforcer says that with
concussions being such a focus in sports, only 2% of the ones in the NHL are
caused by fights. The other 98% are caused by dirty hits. In the background of the
controversy, the game has evolved to where fighting is not an enforcer s only role on
the team. Beyond a reputation for being tough, an enforcer good hockey player. All

Socrates s View Of Philosophical Thought
Socrates was a novel philosopher who challenged the limitations of philosophical
thought during his lifetime. More specifically, Socrates was a key proponent for the
idea known as Dualism , in which the mind (Soul) and the body are not mutually
exclusive entices, bur rather interact in a tangible manner in which they come to have
a reciprocated relationship. Throughout many religions and spiritual movements,
Socrates view of a interaction between the immortal souland the physical body is
evident.
The body is considered to be an obstacle to the afterlife and play no part in gain of
knowledge be. An evil tomb that imprisons our Goodness 14.Socrates brings up
points that our body is limited and only with us for so long and it has limitations
desires, fears and much more nonsense. He begins to talk about how no two bodies
are alike, and how we should not rely on our senses for perceive information. He
gives us an example of the form that is called recollection if you place a straight
stick halfway in the water, it will look bent. Take it out, it looks straight again, but
is the stick really straight? I don t mean a log to a log a stone to a stone or anything
else of that sort... 75.Our senses try to trick us. Socrates believes we should pay no
attention to the sensible world because it s like an illusion and can trick because it s
always changing.
The soul was the most important thing according to Socrates. His belief that our
souls existed before birth and is

To what extent is Nationalism inherently aggressive and expansionist? Intro: It is
difficult to define Nationalism as either inherently destructive or expansionist. It
depends on the type of Nationalism and the circumstances in which is arises and how
people use or abuse it as an ideology. Heywood defines four main breeds of
Nationalism; Liberal Nationalism, Conservative Nationalism, Expansionist
Nationalism, Anti and post colonial Nationalism. One of the types of nationalism
which is more likely to be inherently destructive and expansionist is Expansionist

I believe that modern expansionist and destructive imperialism is a logical
consequence of the rise of nationalism and that the liberation of conquered peoples
was its unavoidable consequence. In some regions, Europeans exerted complete
political authority, in other areas, spheres of influence were established, and leaving
the existing governments as puppets, occasionally only economic influence was
exerted. Imperialism in Africa created colonies designed to serve the needs of the
colonial powers. Colonial boundaries often exacerbated long standing ethnic rivalries.
The consequences of expansionist nationalism were destructive and also predictable.
Competition between the expanding modern empires, rooted in expansionist
nationalism, led to inter state wars, starting overseas in the peripheral territories
where these states sought to expand their rule, and it ended, during the 20th century,
in gigantic inter state wars at the centre. World Wars I and II brought the defeat of
Germany and Italy in comparison with France, England, America and Russia, but all
of Europe suffered from war devastation. In this period, the true off springs of
nationalism who elevated this school to its highest position and gave it its severest
form were
Dichotomy In The Book Of Ruth
The book of Ruth is an interesting glimpse into the everyday life of Bethlehem. With
its defined scenes, inner story parallels, and circular patterns, it reads more like a play
then a historical narration. The various dichotomies displayed, such as the private
/public, female/male, emptiness/fullness, and foreigner/native, add to the story s
richness and entertainment. A deep theme of loyalty and faithfulness, hesed,
progresses throughout this short story. Its many characters display various forms of
hesed and provide a cast that most of my context in northern, rural Minnesota can

Compare And Contrast Daycare And Homecare
What Is The Difference Between A Daycare Center And Home Daycare? Finding
someone to take care of your child during the day can be a tough decision, and you
will most likely be deciding between a daycare center and home daycare. Are you
aware of what the major differences are between these two options? By
understanding the differences, you can decide which one is best for your child s
needs. Home Daycare vs. Daycare Center Home daycare is very much like what
the name implies, it is a service that is run out of someone s home. You will often
find other moms offering this type of service, especially if they are staying at home
with their child during the day and are looking to make some extra money by taking
care of another child at the same
Transportation Advantages And Disadvantages
The type of transport that an individual uses daily not only affect themselves, but
also the wider community. There are many factors that are likely to affect how an
individual makes decisions. Some decisions are made rationally, others are not. In
the past decade, both cities of Greater Melbourne and Perth are being affected by
people s transportation choices. The rapid increase in population across Australian
cities, especially Melbourneand Perth means that the government is looking for
solutions to reduce problems such as raising levels of pollution, congestion and travel
time. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) the residential
population of Greater Melbourne has increased by 2.1% and Greater Perth has
increased by 1.6%, during the period of June 2014 to June 2015 (2017).
Consequently, this steep increase in population means that the transport infrastructure
in both cities is being put under increasing pressure. Therefore, to cope with the rising
population, both cities have expanded their public transportation network. In the year
of 2015 16 in Perth, 6,850 Transperth train services were run weekly (Public Transport
Authority 2017) and in Melbourne there are over 2,200 week day services and more
than 3000 services during the weekends (Metro Trains Melbourne 2017).
As seen in the graph above, both Perth and Melbourne are showing strong trends of
growth. Furthermore, the steep incline in Perth from 2007 can be explained by the
opening of the Mandurah train line in 2007. From 2006, Melbourne is showing a
rapid growth, this is because in the 2006 Commonwealth games occurred in
Melbourne (Changing Transport 2012). Moreover, both cities also experienced
population growth therefore this may account for the public transport growth.
Private transportation such as cars are very popular with the Australian public.
Around 76% of all vehicles accounted for in 2013 were passenger vehicles (ABS
2014). Cars have become increasingly affordable and offer greater mobility therefore
more Australians are choosing them over public transportation (ABS 2014). By
analysis Australian Bauru of Statistics data social research company McCrindle

Dollar Bill Symbols
What are the symbols on the dollar bill and what do they mean? There are many
symbols for instance the laurel wreath around the one on the front of the dollar
symbolizes victory(3). The some of the latin on the dollar bill is E pluribus unum
which means One out of many (1). The American bald eagle symbolizes freedom
and strength. It is holding 13 arrows in one claw and an olive branch with 13
leaves in the other symbolizing Congress power over war and peace. The eagle is
looking right showing that the US is a peaceful nation. The unsupported shield,
like the US, stands on its own. The shield is composed of 13 stripes representing

What do they have to do with the dollar bill? The number thirteen was, in theory, an
important number to the masons, There were 13 original colonies, 13 colonies
signed on for independence, there are 13 stars above the eagle, there are 13 steps
on the pyramid, there are 13 letters in the Latin phrase ANNUIT COEPTIS, there
are 13 stripes on the U.S. flag and eagles shield, there are 13 olive branches (each
olive branch has 13 pieces of fruit attached to it), and there are 13 arrows(4).
Thirteen can be seen all over the dollar bill and in our history. The back of the
dollar has the U.S. seal. on the back of the seal there is an unfinished pyramid with
an eye in a triangle floating over the top. The eye is also known as the eye of

Argumentative Essay On Sugar And Disease

Adding sugar to foods increases the number of diseases being diagnosed
One in four children in his pediatric practice were considered obese , Jeffrey
Eisenberg, a pediatrician, stated ( Suckered the History of Sugar , Eisenberg). I
believe that sugar is linked to common diseases. Many studies have shown that even
if it doesn t it does cause serious damage to the body. Most Americans consume
sugar in their everyday diet. First of all, sugar consumption increased between 1890
the early 1920 s. Through numerous studies sugar is shown to be damaging to our
bodies and how they function. By consuming sugar we expose our bodies to
becoming less immune to insulin resistance. Without insulin your body it can go
into a pancreatic exhaustion, making it easier to get various forms of diabetes.
Sugar became popular because of its unique taste, making it easy to understand the
growing addiction to the product that we see now. In the beginning it was not
believed that sugar could damage the body by consumption, so many were led to
believe it was foods in high fat content that were the result of growing health
epidemics. What most people don t know is that by purchasing low fat products in

By metabolizing at a slow rate, sugar damages many of the body s functions. Many
children in America have been considered severely overweight or obese. This was
not always the case, before the introduction to sugar the number of children with
diabetes was very limited. The disease originated as being diagnosed at an older
age. Now diabetes is a rapidly growing epidemic seen in all age groups. The
consumption of sugar has also been linked to many other diseases. George
Campbell, South African diabetes specialists, suggested half of the sugar sold in
America would be enough to spark epidemics ( Sweet little lies ,
Project Bioshild
Why America is Not Prepared for Biological Attacks Biological weapons are being
developed and pursued secretly in other countries by either individuals or groups
for the purpose to incapacitate or kill humans, livestocks, or crops. In today s
world America has ignored, overlooked, and undervalued the threat of biological
attacks. America has experienced biological attacks in the past but is America
prepared for it? America may have experienced biological attacks, but America is
not prepared for biological attacks. The main reason America is not prepared for a
biological attack is because the U.S. doesn t have a concrete or national plan to
combat this threat and having no plan forces the U.S. to improvise on the way which

The main purpose of Bioshield was to protect the U.S. from future threats of
bioterrorism and biological attacks. The origins of Bioshield came from President
George W. Bush 2003 State of the Union address that announced the creation of
Project Bioshield because of the anthrax envelope attack after 9/11. Congress
passed legislation to establish Project Bioshield the following year and created a
special $5.6 Billion fund for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
The HHS runs Bioshield. Bioshield s main objective was to produce and stockpile
huge quantities of the next generation anthrax vaccine and other vaccines or drugs
to protect against other possible biological attacks. The major problem is that
Bioshield doesn t have enough funding to achieve their objective, the average cost
of drug development is about $800 million to 1 billion and this is before a single
pill or vaccine is purchase. In addition, the HHS has had problems with the DOD
and FDA on vaccines. The DOD has a different agenda than the HHS to use the
vaccines and the vaccines that are being created is having difficulty meeting FDA

All Hail Macbeth in Shakespeare s Play
All hail Macbeth
One first learns of Macbeth through the eyes of a wounded captain, reporting on
what has happened on the battlefield. Macbeth is portrayed foremost as a couragious
warrior, who has fought well and won for his king and country.
It makes it seem as if Macbeth is a man with a good character.
However, the events during the play causes this reasonably good man to become a
tyrant, whose sole name blisters our tongues
At the beginning of the play, becoming the next king of Scotland has never even
entered the mind of Macbeth. The ambitious character he is portrayed as does not
come out until later in the play, after the all important event of the prophecy of the
witches.
This prophecy changes everything for Macbeth and dictates the entire play.
The prophecy says speaks of Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter , as well as the
next thane of Cawdor. Soon after he has heard the prophecy, he finds out that he is
indeed been named the new thane of Cawdor.
Macbeth, who at first did not really believe the prophecy, is now forced to
reconsider. If one part of the prophecy is right, could the other parts of it come true
as well?
The prophecy is the first event of many on his road to becoming a tyrant.
It forces the vaulting ambition to come out. Without the prophecy, that trait might
have stayed in the background.
However, even after being named thane of Cawdor, Macbeth remains uncertain about
what to do next.
He writes about the events to his wife
quot;the Oppressive Power of Patriarchy in Angela...
We can read Angela Carter as both entertaining and a critique of constructions and
presentations of power, gender, sexuality and construction of gendered identities.
First we will consider the oppressive and destructive power of patriarchy which is
the social system in which men are regarded as the authority within the family and
society. Afterwards in the next chapter we will investigate how Carter s heroines
succeed in constructing their femininity and their gendered identities. Let us look at
a typical piece of Carter s writing The Magic Toyshop and its specific focus on
critiquing the oppressive power of patriarchy that is represented through the
oppressive character of Uncle Phillip. The novel narrates... Show more content on

Lorna sage asserts: Uncle Philip has made images of them as toy monkeys, they
are in his power, and ......Melanie joins them in this house. 2 Carter tries to tell
readers through The Magic Toyshop how Uncle Philip s power 1could turn
Melanie into a victim and this exposes a kind of bullying male power. In her
penultimate novel Nights at the Circus, Carter mocks and explodes the constructive
cultural stereotypes of femininity and masculinity. The novel is divided into three
sections: London, St.Perersburg and Siberia and Carter conducts it like a circus.
The embodiement of the patriarchal power is in the characters of Walser, Christian
Rosencreutz, Grand Duke. For example, early in the novel, in London Carter
displays Walser s continous attempts to fix Fevvers to paper or to disclose her as a
hoax to secure immortality of profession acknowledgement. The journalist Walser
who represent the power of patriarchy comes to interview Fevvrers. He is more
ambitious about dismantling and distroying the identity that is presented to him than
trying to understand it. This is a condition of his journalistic ambition but it also an
act of misogyny to aliegn Fevvers to his own image of what a women should be. He

Case Study Of BCCI Fraud
The Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) fraud was a major
international banking fraud which resulted in the collapse of the bank in 1991. The
estimated amount involving the fraud was around ВЈ800 million at that time. The
bank was operating in 78 countries with around 400 branches and it attracted mainly
Asian communities as their customers. As a result of the collapse of the bank,
hundreds of thousands of people around the world lost their savings. It also included
local councils such as Western Isles, Westminster City and Harlow. The case attracted
the media spotlight and caused great concern in political circles and in the banking
sector.
The banking practices of the bank were shady and in many parts illegal but its
corporate structure and its active efforts shielded it from any lawsuits in the early
days. Even in later days, it was very hard for regulators to bring BCCI to the book.
However, many public outcry and ethical concerns raised by other parts of the
banking industry made regulators in America and Britain take stock of the situation.
Only after this, BCCI soon came under the scrutiny of numerous national and

Secular Humanism and Christianity
I. Part One: Secular Humanism
1. The Question of Origin A humanist rejects any existence and or thought of God
and is believed that modern science can answer the question of how life began.
Atheists...propose the idea that God is not necessary for life or morals, and the
answer to mankind s existence is found only in nature itself (Weider Gutierrez. 2011,
p56). They believe that the entire universe as well as life is simply by coincidence
and that lucky for us, nonliving matter turned to living cells which eventually led to
humankind; also known as Darwin s theory.

Man decides for himself what is right and wrong, and is given the will to change his
mind at any point. This goes hand in hand with the whole humanist belief and that
man is in control of his own destiny as well as the principles he chooses to live by
daily.
5. The Question of Destiny Humanist s believe that this world and this life is all we
have. Once this machine (the body) breaks down and dies, death is the final and there
is nothing more beyond that. Once the body starts decomposing, all that remains or
they suggests lives on, is the impact they left on loved ones and through their culture
(Weider Gutierrez, 2011, p64).
II. Part One: Secular Humanism vs. Christian Worldview
1. The Question of Origin In contrast to the humanist s worldview that everything
happened by chance, Christians believe that from the beginning, everything that
exists, including humans was the result of God. Now Christians do believe in
micro evolution, also known as adaption, where an animal can endure some
changes to help itself adapt to a different condition, but will never form into a
different species. There is still no scientific evidence that can prove otherwise. God
made sure of this when he was creating all living things that he kept all species
according to its kind (Genesis 1:21 25).
2. The Question of Identity As opposed to the humanist view where we are nothing
more then an highly developed animal, the Bible teaches us
Analysis Of The Book The R. Tolkien
J.R.R. Tolkien was an amazing author who had the ability to forge stories that have
captivated audiences worldwide since the publishing of his first ever book. Part of
this literary success comes from his astounding character development; his way of
writing causes the reader to truly feel what his characters are experiencing and
many a reader has cried at the death of a Tolkien character. However, if most people
attempt to think of one of his characters the first ones that come to mind are males
such as Aragornand Frodo, when in all reality some of his most intriguing and subtly
pivotal characters are females. Galadriel, LГєthien, Arwen, and EМЃowyn are four of

into my hands, and behold! It was brought within my grasp . . . She lifted up her

alone and left all else dark. She stood before Frodo seeming now tall beyond

shrunken: a slender elf woman, clad in simple white, whose gentle voice was soft

Analysis Of The California High Speed Rail Authority
Criticism Financial Uncertainty It can be seen that a comprehensive financing plan
is lacking from the state and the Authority. The proposed bonds would be
insufficient for Phase 1 alone putting the rest of the project away from
consideration. There is very little clarity on the potential matching funds to be
available from federal and local governments. The reliability on private investors for
capital funds is questionable approach. The California High Speed Rail Authority
has received cautions from the state Senate Transportation and Housing Committee
regarding the availability of matching funds for High Speed Rail construction. Most
importantly the advisor of the California High Speed Rail Authority, Lehman
Brothers has described the risks that are capable of restricting private investment in
the project. These risks include cost overruns, doubt on ridership and revenue
projections and political meddling. The Legislative Analysts Panel also published an
article in 2011 pointing out the huge difference in the proposed and actual
availability of funds. As per the Due Diligence Report of 2008, It appears unlikely
that sufficient private and public subsidy funding will be found to finance the
complete HSR plan. As a result, it is more likely that the system will either be built
only in part or not at all. Moreover, claims of profitability could not conceivably be
true under even the most optimistic assumptions. Although the current focus is on
initial capital costs, there

Essay on Machiavelli’s The Prince and the Modern
Executive
The Prince and the Modern Executive
Few question The Prince s place in the canon of western literature. That it marks a
turning point in our collective history, the origin of the study of politics as a science
(Pollock 43), is alone enough to warrant its classification as a Great Book. Its author,
Niccolo Machiavelli, a contemporary of Copernicus, is generally accepted as an early
contributor to the scientific revolution, because he looked at power and the nature of
sovereignty through the eyes of a scientist, focused completely on the goal without
regard for religion and morals and ethics. Machiavelli taught that the way princes
actually do govern often differs substantially from than the way they ought to govern,

A corporation has its king and its barons, its courtiers and ambassadors, its loyalists
and its dissident elements, its allies and its enemies. What is important to our
application of his principles of statecraft to the business world is not the superficial
differences but the underlying unity. Modern corporations that are successful and
well managed do not necessarily operate in harmony with the personal morality of
their employees and for the general good of their communities. Similarly, firms which
pollute the environment or ask their employees to lie are not always forced into
bankruptcy.
The individualism and secularism that characterized the Italian Renaissance are
dominant themes in Machiavelli s thinking. His use of historical examples throughout
The Prince demonstrates an extensive knowledge of Greek and Roman history and
is consistent with the new found love for antiquity of the Renaissance. Machiavelli
was, in every sense of the word, a true renaissance man. He appears to be remarkably
well educated, although limited finances probably prevented him from studying at a
major university. As a result, the effect of humanist teachings, prevalent at most of
the institutions of higher learning at the time, on Machiavelli was limited.
Machiavelli s knowledge of specific details of politics is primarily the culmination of
a life long career as a bureaucrat and diplomat.

The Objectification Of Women In Hamlet By William
Shakespeare
Throughout centuries men have been seen as the gender that have more rights than
women. According to Diane Elizabeth Dreher s 1986 book, Domination Defiance:
Fathers and Daughters in Shakespeare, she explains that a woman during renaissance
England, was to conform patiently and silently to the will of her father and, later, to
that of her husband, accepting commands, correction, physical abuse, with sweetness
and humility (16). As a result of a renaissancesociety that promotes and even
encourages this type of behavior, men believe that they have more power. When
someone believes that they have more power than another person a pattern of
disrespect, and in the most extreme cases, physical and emotional abuse are likely to
follow. In Hamlet, Shakespeare contrasts two female leads of the play, Ophelia and
Gertrude, through reduction to appearance, instrumentality, and silencing in order to
show that during this time period, the objectification of women in the play was
parallel to the objectification of women during renaissance England.
In Hamlet, Shakespeare contrasts the two female leads of the play through
reduction to appearance to show that the objectification of women is a reflection of
renaissance gender bias. Reduction to appearance is the treatment of a person
primarily in terms of how they look, or how they appear to the senses. One example
of Hamlet s disgust with the fact that his mother married his uncle, almost
immediately after his dad died. He isn t worried

ratings because of the conflict they re having is making people not want to watch.

what he felt about the current issue in America to kneeling because it was the right

fans choose the side he or she wants to be on and splitting the fan like that is not

Also, Colin Kaepernick is protected under federal labor laws. To be protected under
federal labor law, an employee s action must be conducted in concert with co
workers. It must address an issue of relevance to their job, and it must be carried out
using appropriate means. Workers can t, say, damage property or threaten violence. If
the workers have a collective bargaining agreement with their employer that forbids
certain actions like striking they can t do that, either.
These recent protests are believed to be protected and meet all three conditions to
be protected. As a result of this the teams or players are not discipline for this even
though now Colin Kaepernick is unemployed and no NFL team wants him. They
claim that it is because he is not good enough of a quarterback but it was because of
his protesting. He may have been protected but the national football league owners
found a way around it in firing him. This happens to employees too that are not in
professional teams when they are protesting against injustices but are fired anyway
because owners find another way to fire them.
After all this came to be, other players started doing this the season after and this is
where the problem arises. The national football league is splitting their fans in two
thus having their rating plummet because people do not want to watch the games.
Football is not meant to separate fans but bring them together. Fans that watch the
games regularly do not want to see players

She said women didn t see the United States as a democracy, but they see it as an

argument and has a clear understanding if her constitutional rights. How strong and

Anthony wants female s rights to be heard and put to good use. She then talks about
the preamble of the Constitution. She looks at the first three words which are We the
people . She argued that it didn t say white male citizen it said the people. During the
time of her speech only white male citizens could vote, leaving her to argue the
integrity of our constitutional rights. She spoke of the offensive nature of asking
women how they like their liberty and freedom when they are denied their voice in
the government. Their voice was the only means of security and true protection. She
is clearly stating that the government has given women their freedom but hasn t let
them use it by voting. This is the heart of her argument, this shows that she wants the
government to see the qualities in women and wishes that they will put them to good
use.
Anthony then talks about States making sex qualifications and how it is a violation
of the supreme law of the land. Males have always

The Great Hurricane of 1938, or known to many as the Long Island Express, was
known as one of the most disastrous hurricanes to hit New England. It wasn t the
high winds, heavy rain, and high waves/storm surge that gave this hurricane its title
in history. The Great Hurricane had a fourth deadly weapon; the element of surprise.
It was the beginning of September, a time where many packed up their summer
clothes, boarded up their houses, and left to return back to the real world leaving
their summer homes behind. When symptoms of a storm approached New England,
many locals convinced themselves and others that it was just the normal line storm
which occasionally comes in September. It wasn t until Sept 21 that people realized

If conditions remain favorable, the depression may develop further into a tropical
storm and, later, into a full blown hurricane. (Genesis, 99). On page 34 of the book,
Sudden Sea, the author describes a discovery in the Sahara Desert. Meteorologists
noticed a slight shift in the wind; an area of unstable air was passing over northwest
Africa. Within a day or two it moved over the Atlantic Ocean to around the Cape
Verde Islands. This should have been the first sign to the Weather Bureau to watch
this particular storm. Although storms born off of the Sahara Desert were more
likely to become nothing, there was still a slight chance it would develop from the
unstable air combining with moisture built up from the heat of the equator off of the
islands.
The first mistake the Jacksonville s weather bureau made was to call all extra
relief workers and coast guards from New York and New England down to Florida
to prepare for the storm. While looking out and protecting Florida, they took many
needed hands from the northeast, which was hit harder. Their second mistake, a
more important one, was to assume this storm was another typical Cape Verde
hurricane because it began to veer northward. Those storms were known to curve
away from the tropics at first opportunity and head north for colder water where it
would soon die off before hitting the US. It followed this specific course by the
Bermuda High currents, a mass of dense dry air that dominates the weather in the
North
The Transnational Nature Of Migration In Robert Smith s...
Robert Smith s Mexican New York explores the transnational nature of Mexican

Ticuani, in Puebla, Mexico. This book covers the many ways that migration
influences social, political, and economic pattern in both New York and Mexico.
Smith begins by describing how Ticuani has been transformed by migration, changing
the town into a sort of holding place for the very young and the very old. Next, he
discusses how Mexican migrants fit into the racial, ethnic, and economic hierarchies
in New York. I found the discussion of Mexican/Puerto Rican relationships
particularly interesting because I was reminded of the simultaneous distancing,
community, and competition evident in
Locus Of Control Developed In The 1950 s By Dian B Rotter
The process of locus of control is an individual s beliefs about what determines
their rewards or outcomes in life. It was developed in the 1950 s by Julian B.
Rotter. Two examples of locus of control are internal locus of control and external
locus of control. It is important to have a locus of control because the students with
an internal locus of controltend to study longer and do better academically, while
students with an external locus of control tend to blame their surroundings like their
teachers, friends, and family.
Some kids just need some help to learn how to have an internal locus of control. You
can start helping a child with an external locus of control by using attribution training
that concentrates on strengthening the student s

Alcohol has been a major influence on college students and many of these students are unaware of the damage that is being caused by abusing it. What students in this age group do not understand is that their brainis still developing slowly and this process does not finish until they reach adulthood. Drinking can have harmful effects on the development of the brain, which has a major impact on the student as they age. College is a very stressful time period for some and a common mistake is students abusing the amount of alcoholthey consume to cope with the stress they have. The question that comes to my mind is why do those who are fully aware of what they re doing to themselves continue to drink? This issue needs to be addressed more strictly to prevent damage on college students. They are working their hardest to achieve the goals that they want and find themselves potentially being affected by a destructive habit. There are many factors that are likely to affect how an individual makes decisions. Some decisions are made rationally, others are not. In the past decade, both cities of Greater Melbourne and Perth are being affected by people s transportation choices. The rapid increase in population across Australian cities, especially Melbourneand Perth means that the government is looking for solutions to reduce problems such as raising levels of pollution, congestion and travel time. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) the residential population of Greater Melbourne has increased by 2.1% and Greater Perth has increased by 1.6%, during the period of June 2014 to June 2015 (2017). Consequently, this steep increase in population means that the transport infrastructure in both cities is being put under increasing pressure. Therefore, to cope with the rising population, both cities have expanded their public transportation network. In the year of 2015 16 in Perth, 6,850 Transperth train services were run weekly (Public Transport Authority 2017) and in Melbourne there are over 2,200 week day services and more than 3000 services during the weekends (Metro Trains Melbourne 2017). Furthermore, the steep incline in Perth from 2007 can be explained by the opening of the Mandurah train line in 2007. From 2006, Melbourne is showing a rapid growth, this is because in the 2006 Commonwealth games occurred in Melbourne (Changing Transport 2012). Moreover, both cities also experienced population growth therefore this may account for the public transport growth. Private transportation such as cars are very popular with the Australian public. Around 76% of all vehicles accounted for in 2013 were passenger vehicles (ABS 2014). Cars have become increasingly affordable and offer greater mobility therefore more Australians are choosing them over public transportation (ABS 2014). By consuming sugar we expose our bodies to becoming less immune to insulin resistance. Without insulin your body it can go into a pancreatic exhaustion, making it easier to get various forms of diabetes. Sugar became popular because of its unique taste, making it easy to understand the growing addiction to the product that we see now. Macbeth is portrayed foremost as a couragious warrior, who has fought well and won for his king and country. It makes it seem as if Macbeth is a man with a good character. However, the events during the play causes this reasonably good man to become a tyrant, whose sole name blisters our tongues At the beginning of the play, becoming the next king of Scotland has never even entered the mind of Macbeth. The ambitious character he is portrayed as does not come out until later in the play, after the all important event of the prophecy of the witches. This prophecy changes everything for Macbeth and dictates the entire play. The prophecy says speaks of Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter , as well as the next thane of Cawdor. Soon after he has heard the prophecy, he finds out that he is indeed been named the new thane of Cawdor. Macbeth, who at first did not really believe the prophecy, is now forced to reconsider. If one part of the prophecy is right, could the other parts of it come true as well? The prophecy is the first event of many on his road to becoming a tyrant. It forces the vaulting ambition to come out. Without the prophecy, that trait might have stayed in the background. However, even after being named thane of Cawdor, Macbeth remains uncertain about what to do next. He writes about the events to his wife

As a result of a renaissancesociety that promotes and even encourages this type of behavior, men believe that they have more power. When someone believes that they have more power than another person a pattern of disrespect, and in the most extreme cases, physical and emotional abuse are likely to follow. This should have been the first sign to the Weather Bureau to watch this particular storm. Although storms born off of the Sahara Desert were more likely to become nothing, there was still a slight chance it would develop from the unstable air combining with moisture built up from the heat of the equator off of the islands.
