1. Media Essays
Writing an essay on the broad and multifaceted subject of media can be both challenging and
intriguing. The difficulty lies in navigating the vast expanse of media-related topics, ranging
from traditional journalism to the ever-evolving landscape of digital media. The dynamic nature
of the media industry adds an extra layer of complexity, as new technologies and trends
continuously shape the way information is produced, consumed, and disseminated.
Crafting a compelling media essay requires a deep understanding of media theories,
communication principles, and the socio-cultural impact of media on society. One must also stay
abreast of current events and trends, as media is a reflection of the ever-changing world around
us. Analyzing the role of media in shaping public opinion, its influence on politics, and the
ethical considerations involved can be intellectually demanding.
Moreover, the essay should be well-researched, incorporating a diverse range of sources to
provide a comprehensive view of the chosen topic. It involves critically evaluating scholarly
articles, journalistic reports, and perhaps even primary sources, depending on the scope of the
essay. Ensuring proper citation and adherence to academic conventions adds an additional layer
of intricacy.
Additionally, presenting a cohesive argument and maintaining a logical flow throughout the
essay is crucial. Striking a balance between providing factual information and offering insightful
analysis while adhering to the specified word count can be a delicate task.
In conclusion, delving into the realm of media essays demands a blend of research, critical
thinking, and effective communication skills. It is a challenging yet rewarding endeavor that
allows the writer to explore the ever-evolving landscape of media and its profound impact on
society.

Noise characterisation is a critical research area for varied domains and applications.
The domains include marine, aviation, transport, civil engineering etc. The
applications could include numerous military and non military applications like
fatigue failures in material, human comfort, acoustics stealth, marine mammal habitat
assessment, condition based monitoring of machineries etc. In many engineering
situations, machines are mounted on flexible structures such as the ships deck,
aircraft fuselage, car or train chasis, building floors etc.
When in operation machines may transmit noise and vibrations to the receiving
structures, causing unwanted noise and vibration problems close to remote from
source location. In recent years, noise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus an accurate characterization of the dynamic behaviour of vibrating system and
emanating noise with respect to its frequency, amplitude, and power over a broad
range of frequencies is needed to develop reliable simulation models, suggest passive
design strategies and propose active control concepts. [2]. Three elements namely the
source, path and receiver play an important role in noise generation and transmission.
The field of acoustics and vibration majorly deals with the characterisation and
control of noise source and noise transmission path ( air borne and structure borne
paths). While for airborne sound, a sourcepath receiver model has been a practically
proven model, inherent physical problems have prevented a similar approach being
adopted for structure borne sound. Also, most Literature have stated that it is the
structure borne sound source which are the main cause of noise problems [3], [4]
and due complexity of built up structures, characterisation of structure borne noise
source and transmission has been a major field of applied research till date. Most
research publications available on sound shielding pertains to problem connected
with lessening noise in industrial, housing, public buildings and surface and air
transport vehicles. The field of shipboard acoustics has found relatively weak
expression in scientific and technical literature till as far as 1960s. Ship board
acoustics are distinguished from architectural acoustics by several

Butterflies in your stomach, wind ripping at your coat, eyes closed, praying you
don t die as you point your skis down the mountain says dad as he describes what
our first day will be like while we travel the sixteen hour drive to Winter Park,
Colorado. Most of this drive is dull, all we see is flat Kansas and its huge windmills,
until we hit Denver. Then our eyes light up, hearts beat faster and we can t breath as
we gaze upon the mountain tops. We wind up those beautiful mountains, and our
anticipation builds the higher we climb. We get closer and closer to the resort when
we feel a sharp turn as we pull into the cabin. Anticipation turns to disappointment
when we realize we have to wait until morning to hit the slopes. Suddenly everyone is
gloomy, moping around the cabin unpacking, longing for tomorrow.
Finally it s morning. Everyone is rushing around, scarfing down food, and jumping
into the vehicles. We stop by the skirental shop for our skis, which is a long ordeal.
Each person has to read and sign a big pamphlet, get insurance checked, and try on
several pairs of ski boots and skis until the fit is right. We have to do that for fifteen
people. It s awful, but worth the wait as we head to the mountain.
We finally arrive at the mountain. We trudge through the snowin our awkward ski
boots, stop near the lift to clip on our skis and get into line. We are given a brief run
through of how to get on the lift as we scoot forward to a line, being careful to not

The smell of carnival foods, music blasting through the tall speakers, and the crowd
going wild is the first thing one hears as one enters the stadium. Shortly, one hears
the sounds of clapping, stomping, and yelling as the Greek organizations compete
for the grand prize, title of recognition, and bragging rights. People are dancing and
supporting their favorite groups as they perform the routines the groups have been
practicing for days. The final group performs and walks off stage drained with all the
energy they put into the performance. Everyone crosses their fingers hoping their
Greek organization won. Different colors, like salmon pink and apple green,
surrounds the stadium representing the different groups. The MC (Mic Controller)...

sororities in general. The resources mentioned a special group called the Divine Nine.
Together these nine societies make up what is known as the National Pan Hellenic

Everyone has heard the news on the current deteriorating state of the economy, the
severe credit crisis and the declining housing market. Fox, CNN, MSNBC, other
news outlets and even the President remind us of our pain daily. The people s fears
and perception have now become reality. Home foreclosures are at an all time high
even in my neighborhood in Jersey City with many more foreclosures likely to
come. The unemployment rate in Hudson County, New Jersey is growing daily
and is the highest it has been in many years. Housing resale values are at all time
lows with no end in sight. Even the banks are going bankrupt as are many
Americans who no longer qualify for credit.Because of the recent credit crisis,
many people don t qualify for a new loan to buy a house right now, despite the
incredibly low housing prices. Many home sellers can t sell their unwanted houses

to see my house at all different hours of the day or night. I was afraid to say no in
fear of losing a potential buyer. I would have to keep my house clean and all

From the roots of the HSC Chemistry course, we are conditioned to the concept of a
Galvanic Cell. It is essentially a circuit containing a Positive Cathode where reduction

Cells operate with the basic principles of converting chemical energy into electrical
energy via spontaneous reactions at the Anode and Cathode. However, today we are
looking Electrolytic cells. These operate with the function of converting electrical
energy into chemical energy, forcing Chemical reactions to occur and contain a
Negative Cathode and a Positive Anode. So, you can see, it is quite literally the

Finally, the membrane cell is the most recent cell and is very similar to the
diaphragm cell, but uses a PTFE (Teflon) polymer membrane instead of the asbestos

however, the cell is still very expensive and is a significant contributor to greenhouse

Therefore, through relative comparison of the three cells, we can conclude that;
The Mercury Cell has the best yield out of all the cells (50%), but is let down by

8. The Importance Of Collecting Student Loans
When it comes to debt, the most relentless creditor to have is the federal
government. Student loans that are not paid in a timely manner will be forwarded to
a collection department or agency. The government utilizes private collection
agencies to collect these back loans on their behalf, and they forward delinquent
loans to these services very quickly. The problem in now dealing with a collection
agency is that your credit score will suffer if your student loanstays in delinquent
status. The best option is to be proactive and call the agency to work out a payment
plan to get back on track.
The government agency responsible for issuing student loans, the U.S. Department of
Education, offers deferments for those still enrolled at least
9. Application Of A Resident Assistant Essay
In February of 2016, I applied and was selected to be a Resident Assistant in
Newman Towers here at Loyola for the 2016 17 academic year by the Office of
Student Life. The Student Life office can be seen as a meso level social unit in that
it is a medium scale department within the greater Loyola community that consists of
a status system, which is a set of statuses. These statuses, which are positions in a
social unit, are achieved, since they were attained out of one s own action, and
formal, since the expectations of each status exist independent of the person who fills
the social status. In accepting this position, I achieved the formal status of a Resident
Assistant and became an employee of Student Life.
In assuming a certain status, one also assumes all of the expectations, obligations,
and rights, associated with that position in the social unit. Another word for these
expectations is a role. In the Office of Student Life, each status, such as the
Director, an Assistant Director (AD), a Graduate Resident Coordinator (GRC), or a
Resident Assistant (RA), comes with a specific role set, which consists of multiple
associated roles within a given status. The term role is short for role relationship due
to the fact that any role defines a set of expectations towards another role. For
example, the roles of Resident Assistant are part of the relationship between Resident
Assistant and residents. A set of role relationships that make up a social unit forms a
role
10. Roman Empire Vs Greek Empire
The Roman Empire versus the Greek Empire
Introduction
The Greece and the Roman empires are considered to be amongst the most
powerful empires in history as their impact is still felt some 2000 years after they
were conquered. The Greece Empire is said to have lasted for approximately 350
years while the Roman Empire is said to have lasted for between 500 and 1500 years
based on how one interprets the rule of the Romans (Ahbel Rappe 530). Over time,
there has been a debate on which of the two empires was strong than the other
based on the impacts to the ancient world. From the debates, it has been noted that
some individuals hold on to the fact that the Romans managed to develop a world
that the Greeks only dreamed about while others have maintained that the Greeks
had built a better world than the Romans (Roisman 410). Based on my knowledge
of the two empires, I think the Romans were better than the Greeks thus making the
Greeks to dream of building a world similar to that of Romans. As such, this paper
will give points for and against my claim.
Why the Greeks dreamt of the Roman World
There are some reasons that are given to explain why the Greeks dreamt of having
what the Romans had built over time. Firstly, it is important to note that the Greeks
are the people who invented philosophy and science. On the other hand, despite
having great philosophers and scientists, the Romans produced engineers,
administrators, and architects, unlike the Greeks. As a result of this,

12. London By George Eliot And Monet s The House Of...
London, England s capital, is one of the top twenty five largest cities in the world,
located on the River Thames with a history reaching all the way back to Roman
times. From the London Eye and Big Ben to the Albert and Victoria Memorial and
Buckingham Palace, there is an abundance of adventures to journey on in the
prodigious city of London. Despite all the fascinating monuments and architecture
there is to see, London has the reputation of constantly being gloomy and raining.
With this reputation, there is plenty of artwork that resembles the image of gloomy,
large London. Three pieces of artwork that resemble the gloomy and large qualities
of London are In a London Drawing Room by George Eliot, A London
Thoroughfare. 2 AM by Amy Lowell, and Monet s The House of Parliament, sunset
(1903).
Eliot s painting of London represents the vast city as isolated and extremely
gloomy, where no bird can make a shadow as it flies as a result of the immense
amount of fog floating in the air. Here, London is depicted as a lonely and isolated
city when Eliot says, All hurry on look upon the ground, / Or glance unmarking at
the passers by / The wheels are hurrying too, cabs, carriages / All closed, in
multiplied identity. With the millions of people breathing in London, it is still an
empty city where people do not recognize one another and do not form the effort to
conceive new relationships. In this sentence, it construes what giant cities are like;

13. Essay On Soundtracks
Just about everybody enjoys some type of music, whether it is country, rap, old
country, western, or jazz. The right song can get you feeling in the right mood
when you are in a good or even in a bad mood. That is why the type of soundtrack
you choose for an event (just like personalized merchandise) can set the right tone
and either make or break the occasion. Whether it is a subtle background musicat a
conference, or rock and roll at an anniversary party, choosing the right tunes is
essential. Background music works best here. You will generally want something
subtle that guests hardly notice, but that makes them feel calm at the same time. You
can use music at meetings, business dinners, conferences and trade shows to enhance
the atmosphere and get things turned up a notch. Soundtracks help smooth over
mingling and chatting, and can give a corporate event an air of sophistication.
Instrumental music works well at business events too, especially during breaks or
pauses while people move from one event to the next. A string quartet, a solo piano
player, or even a live singer can all work, just so long as they are quiet enough that
people can hear their conversations. You might think live music equals stages and
high volume speakers, but this may not necessarily... Show more content on

platforms like Spotify, Pandora or Apple Music even. And if you do not have the
time to put one together yourself, choose one of the many that are already featured.

14. A Civil Action By Jonathan Harr And On A True Story
The odds of a plaintiff winning in civil court are two to one against. Most people
do not even try, they settle. Out of the approximate 780,000 cases filed each year,
only 12,000 or 1.5%, ever reach a verdict. These facts are some that are told in the
movie A Civil Action. A Civil Action is based on the book by Jonathan Harr and on
a true story. This movie, which was filmed in 1998, is about a water contamination
case that happened in Massachusetts. The case is known as Anderson v. Cryovac.
John Travolta plays the role of the main character Jan Schlichtmann, who is a
personal injury attorney. Although typically a water contamination case would
not fall into the hands of a personal injury attorney, but in this case, he was just
supposed to be handling the case of a woman s son who died of leukemia. She
called him live on a radio talk show and explained that she had called his firm to
handle the case, and now they would not return any of her calls. He explains how
sorry he was and that he would take care of it as soon as possible. When he asks the
workers back at his firm about this woman, Anne Anderson, who had called him, they
explained that her son was one of twelve people that have died of leukemia in the
town of Woburn, Massachusetts. Out of those twelve people that had died, eight of
them were children. They also mentioned that the residents of Woburn think the water
they use is somehow linked to leukemia, claiming that the water has always tasted
funny. At first, Jan
15. Meaning Of The Sandman
The Sandman The Sandman is a mythical character whose purpose is to lull
children to sleep and give them sweet dreams, by sprinkling magical sand into their
eyes. If children fought the effects of his magical sand, they would have torturous
nightmares. The folklore says that the sleep in the corner of the eyes is a proof that
The Sandman was there during the night. The text Verse 1 Say your prayers little

his son into bed to keep him warm during the cold night, which is associated with sin.

16. Hound Of The Baskervilles Literary Analysis
Hound of the Baskervilles symbolic setting of the moor Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
develops on the reader a depressing and obscuring perspective on the moor. The
moor, a dark, vacant and disturbing field is the setting for Hound of the Baskervilles.
Everything in the moor is risky. Grass will turn to a sand trap, eerie noises at night
and no sunshine has been seen on the moor. In particular, the moor is the hound in
which precisely haunts the Baskerville men and endeavors to kill them. The
encompassing of the moor compliments the environment of dismal, darkness, and
misdeeds that penetrate all throughout the story. The moor penetrates throughout the
story a depressing and dismal feeling that sets the story s mood. The desolate, gloom
and fate that ventures all throughout the story drives itself to the plot. The moor
establishes the reader to feel in the mood that the moor haunts. We hurried through
the dark shubbery, amid the dull moaning of the autumn wind... night air was heavy
with the smell of damp and decay . (Page 95). Watson and the baronet were starting
their expedition in search for Selden. The hound from the beginning is peculiar, and
the moor is as well. At this time, Watson was hustling out of the moor, because of

17. For Mystical Creatures And Humans, There Are A Variety
For mystical creatures and humans, there are a variety of differences that each other
needs to know. For both the development of their relationship in a TV show or film
would be demonstrated as the human getting to know how their loved one survives
and how they would not get killed by them; they would also demonstrate the idea of
how the vampireis so deeply in lovethat he would never hurt the human. As an
example: Elena learns about vampires from the Salvatore brothers, Stefan and
Damon, when they both fall in love with her. At first they try to hide it but later it
becomes too obvious to keep away from Elena since supernaturalpowers came up
(super speed, compelling). As in for Twilight, the same happened to Bella. Edward

Modern day vampire s capabilities of giving and receiving love give the insight
that they are much more human than what they were perceived in previous novels.
Earlier stories like Dracula and The Vampyre demonstrated lust over love because
the main idea was to seduce humans to fall for them then kill them which was how
it made them look like monsters; with TVD and Twilight, self control plays a major
role when vampires are around those they love, they learn to control the urges of
biting them and use an alternative option like drinking animal blood instead of
human blood. They care more about the safety and feelings of the human rather than
their own selfish desire for human blood; therefore they create a more sentimental
idea and demonstrate a form of love by doing this.
The human also shows their love by learning how to accustom their new life with
their vampire lover. The mortal has to cooperate with what the vampire does to
stay alive like still eat animals for the need of blood. They too have their fair
amount of work and need to follow rules in order to stay in this dangerous
relationship because loving the supernatural does not come easy. Elena in TVD used
a necklace with vervain (harmful plant for vampires) to keep herself safe from any
compelling or bites from any vampire including her boyfriend. In Twilight, Bella did
not use anything but Edward would protect her from other vampires wanting her
blood. But
18. The Influence of Locke and Hobbes on Government
Thomas Hobbes and John Locke have authored two works that have had a significant
impact on political philosophy. In the Leviathan by Hobbes and Two Treatises of
Government by Locke, the primary focus was to analyze human nature to determine
the most suitable type of government for humankind. They will have confounding
results. Hobbes concluded that an unlimited sovereign is the only option, and would
offer the most for the people, while for Locke such an idea was without merit. He
believed that the government should be limited, ruling under the law, with divided
powers, and with continued support from its citizens. With this paper I will argue that
Locke had a more realistic approach to identifying the human characteristics that...

This absolute Sovereign will gain power when the citizens have given up the entirety
of their rights to this new authority and agreeing to a covenant. This is considered a
rational action, and is the only option for the body of people to smoothly come
together. When that happens, an organized society forms, in which the consequences
of not adhering to the rules and regulations of the covenant will be so severe, that no
one would attempt to violate this contract and disobey the Sovereign. That can
happen since first, the Sovereign has deadly force and is permitted to use it whenever
he or she likes, and, second, the citizens have parted away with all their rights, and
cannot protect themselves from this Sovereign. That fact creates a fearful, and
therefore, obedient society. This limitless Sovereign is justified, based on information
from the Leviathan. As we can infer from Hobbes views on human nature, people will
always act selfishly and in an evil manner to obtain the things that they want. As a
result, for people to contract into a peaceful society that will have what they want and
need readily available, they must be bound by force. If this distrustful group of people
had an inclination that the governing authority was weak, they would overturn it,
fatefully returning them to the state of nature. Additionally, this absolute monarchy is
considered warranted, according to

Also when a customer tends to see the same company products everywhere and that
too at a slightly elevate rate, and then the element of Buyers illusion comes into the
picture. The customers tend to believe that the product is priced higher as it is
superior in quality and better as compared to other similar products priced at a lower
rate.
Any company prefers to diversify and systematically target and capture certain
market segments in order to provide that segment superior quality service and kill
all forms of competition from that segment. This seems to be the goal of PepsiCo
too. It wants to diversify from being a supplier of just carbonated drinks and branch
into fruit drinks. To do this the merger was the ideal option, because along with the
Quaker company they are also buying its goodwill and market share. This way they
can systematically cater to every possible need of the sports segment right from the
choice of drinks to providing snacks.
This brings to the role of regulatory bodies, which are created to prevent the dealings
between companies, which might prove detrimental to consumers in the long run.
They prevent tie ups between companies that would kill competition and also prevent
price discrimination.
On a final note, acquisitions and mergers have their own positive as well as flip
sides. On the positive side smaller firms with fewer resources could continue to thrive

The report also describes about the effects of music on memory and studying.
The main purpose of my report is that if anybody interested in opting a career in
music field can easily get a lot of information from my research work which will
clear all it s doubts.
For my research work, I have used google for half of my research work. Apart from
that, I have preferred NAIT library to add more information to my report work.
During my research work, I found a lot of information about categories of music and
it s effects but was unable to find information regarding about music on NAIT library.
I would like to thank my readers for reading my report and give any suggestion for
my report.
I am going to present my report within few days on June 8, 2016.
Sincerely,
Arshdeep Singh

22. Short Essay On Eudora Welty
The Talented Southern Woman
In the mid to late nineteen twenties, a southern Mississippi girl was slowly making
an impact on the literary world with her a granite core in every tale: as complete
and unassailable an image of human relations as any in our art, tragic of necessity
but also comic (Price 1). short stories. As a pioneer, she paved the way for future
writers and young women to accomplish goals and awards that have never been
done before. This young woman was born in small town Jackson, Mississippi and
grew up to go on the adventure of a lifetime to three different colleges and explore
various avenues to pursue her dream against her father s advice and wishes. Eudora
Welty is a fictional short story author who has had many worldly experiences,
brought inspiration to her audiences, and provided a platform to share her
knowledge through her writing. Eudora Welty was born on April thirteenth of
1909 in Jackson, Mississippi ( Eudora Welty Biography 1). She grew up in that
quaint small town where she went to elementary school at Davis Elementary. Her
father was Christian Webb Welty, who was raised in rural Ohio and became a
country school teacher in West Virginia ( Eudora Welty Biography 1). Christian then
went on to marry a fellow school teacher, Chestina Andrews, and she was soon to be
the mother of Eudora. After they married, the two moved to Jackson, Mississippi to
start their family. Eudora is the oldest of three, her two brothers being Edward

23. An Analysis of Anne Bradstreet s Poem, To My Dear and...
The poem To my Dear and Loving Husband by Anne Bradstreet, is not just an
exceedingly felt expression of a wife s marital love and commitment to her
husband, as it is about a puritan women who is supposed to be reserved but she
makes it her obligation to enlighten her husband of her devotion. A thorough
analysis of the poem s paradox, hyperbole, imagery and repetition reveals how she
conveys her message. The opening lines of the poem show how strong her feelings
are for her husband. Bradstreet shows this by the use of a great example of a
paradox, if two were one, then surely we. This shows that the magnitude of her love
and affection is so deep that she s comparing two beings as one. She praises her love
for her husband so much... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I m really surprised to learn that this was not common back for puritan women
back then. In my opinion, the author is very open about how she feels about her
husband. You can tell that throughout the poem she is repeating herself and
stressing on the same idea over and over again. She praises, adores, and loves her
husband and is taking an initiative to show it by writing this letter to him. It s
interesting how she began the poem by using the word ever in the first two lines
and how she ended it with the same word on line 12. Then while we live, in love
lets so persevere That when we live no more, we may live ever. I would like to end
my analysis of this poem by stating a paradox that can be found at the end of the
poem in lines 11 12. Her love for her husband is on such a level that she wants to
preserve it while they live and even after they die. It s amazing to me how much
love one can have for a person. The poem s main idea is not just centralized on how
much Bradstreet loves her husband, but also on a Puritan woman who takes the
initiative to show her love to her husband which was very uncommon back
24. Bartleby, the Scrivener the Lady with the Dog Essay
A number of the stories studied this semester explore the conflict between social
restraint and inner compulsion. Discuss at least two of the stories in the light of this.
Through an exploration of the boundaries between social constraint and inner
compulsion, Melville and Chekov reveal the restrictions forced upon one s personal
desires as they struggle to find a balance between conflicting values and social
norms. Anna and Gurov in The Lady with the Dog are restrained by the socially
expected conventions in their marriages, inhibiting their ability to express their inner
compulsion of desire. Chekov reveals their yearning to escape their individual lives
as they cope with personal troubles by distancing themselves from marriage ... Show

He uses his employment as a means of escaping social conventions through his
monotonous statement I would prefer not (Melville 1998, p. 198), living a life of
choice and preference in a world where preference is non existent. Bartleby
represents a new form of humanity where an individual has the right to choice rather
than living a life of routine through social constraints, defying all forms of society s
restrictions in order to reveal his true desires.
Chekhov explores this concept of conflict through Anna and Gurov s relationship
in The Lady with the Dog as he reveals a need to defy social restraints in order to
escape their marriages as this restricts them from fully embracing their desires. The
image of the long grey fence adorned with nails (Chekhov 1998, p. 371), symbolises
the confines of marriage keeping them apart, unable to be free from social restraint.
Creating an air of seclusion and limitations, this depiction appears to be fending off
Gurov, producing a feeling of entrapment and isolation as it separates their love.
The image of an old woman, a beggar and a dog walking in and out of the fence
freely further emphasises this lack of freedom they have in their lives; the portrayal
of a beggar being the most illuminating aspect of this passage. Even what is
considered as the lowest form of humanity, appears to show more freedom then what
they can as they cannot pass this
25. Analysis Of John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
Title: Of Mice and Men
1. Significance of Title: The title, Of Mice and Men comes from a phrase in the
poem To a Mouse On Turning up in Her Nest with the Plough by Robert Burns. The
second to last stanza contains the line, the best schemes o Mice an Men/ Gang aft
agley contains the phrase John Steinbeck based the title for the novel. The poem is
similar to the book in that George, Lennie, and the mouse all have a goal that
involves months of dedicated work. However, the plough and sudden death of Curley
s wife both bring a sudden end to their dreams. Both disasters were unprecedented,
but caused by the fact that George, Lennie, and the Mouse were torn apart by their
weaknesses.
2. Genre: Of Mice and Men is a novella; or a long, short story, that is a prose, fictional
narrative.
3. Date of Publication: Of Mice and Men was published in 1937.
4. Author: John Steinbeck wrote Of Mice and Men.
5. Setting: Of Mice and Men takes place in the 1930 s during the Great Depression in
the Los Gatos Ranch and Pacific Grove of Northern California.
6. Importance of the Setting: The time period John Steinbeck wrote the novel
reflects the lifestyle of the nomadic man looking for work during the Great
Depression. This choice of timeframe shows the hardships and the live or die
mindset of a man with a low paying job during such a time. Steinbeck himself was
born in Salinas, California which is in a similar area to where the setting of the story
takes place and also worked as a

Under contract law, Grocery does not have the right to reject the shipment because
the original contract did not state the types of cereal or how the cereal would be

Grocery cannot reject the delivery because Cereal was able to provide a partial of
the order and is protected because the damage to Cereal Inc s warehouse was
without fault of either party before the risk of loss passed to the buyer. Although,

27. Importance Of Communication Skills In Leadership
Communication Skills and Effective Leadership
Leaders in an organization must be able to understand employee needs, recognize
employee skills, motivate employees, and communicate with employees. If leaders
fail in these areas it can become difficult to maintain a positive work environment.
The issue I will address is that leaders need to poses strong communication skills in
order to be an effective leader.
Effective Leadership
Leadership is not any easy thing and being a good leader is even harder. What
makes leaders effective and sets them apart from being a leader and be and
effective leader? These are issues that come up every day in whatever your line of
work is there is leadership. There are some people that are naturally great at
leadership and some people that have to learn how to be and effective leader. As a
leader you are in charge of making sure things run smoothly. There are many
different studies and journals on how and what skills are needed in order to be an
effective leader and one thing that stand out amongst all of these is that
communication skills play a huge roll in a leader effectively leading their team.
Whether a team is made up of 1 person or of 500 people if the leader isn t utilizing
their communication skills then the rest of the team is going to struggle with
communication. Without communication things tend to fall apart and tend to make
leaders ineffective.
Communication Skills: Actively Listening

28. Analysis Of Marble Chappe
Marble Champ by : Alessandra Bontomasi
Have you ever said to yourself I give up right away and don t even try? Well there
is a saying that is when you work hard it will pay off, and in the story Marble
Champ by Gary Soto the main character, Lupe Merdrano never stopped working
hard and it lead her to a big prize at the end. The reasons for this is that she was not
good at sports first, then she practiced and practised, then it all paid off in the future.
The first reason that hard work pays off is because in the beginning she was very bad
at sports. But the thing is she would say to herself, I will never be good at sports.
The first piece of evidence is that she can t run very fast, for example in the story
Marble Champ she would try and try to get her body to move faster in the fifty
yard dash and she would never beat anyone. So, this shows that she is not good at
sports because in most sports you need to run, skate or other movements that
involve your legs, also she is not very fast when using her legs. My second piece of
evidence is that she scored a goal for the other team, when playing soccer, by her
kicking it into her own teams net. This shows that she didn t even know which net
was and you need to know that to play a sport. My third example is that she can t kick
a ball in the right direction and can t kick it to well. This says that she really once
again doesn t know how to use her legs for the right purpose . Even if she is very
good at using her brain

30. The Cause And Main Causes Of The American Revolution
The origins of the American Revolution came from both long term and immediate
causes between the thirteen colonies in North America and Great Britain. Factors that
played a critical role in the colonists desire for freedom ranged from political,
intellectual, geographical, religious to economic. These casues would set the context
for this eighteenth century American crisis, and also shape the foundation of the
United Statesof America. No single event was the main cause for the revolution, but
instead a long, gradual series of events and lists of grievances that led to this war. It
essentially began from the disagreement over the way the British monarch would
treat the colonies that suited Parliament versus the way the colonies felt they should
be treated, as their very own british subjects. However, to understand what led to this
great rebellion, it is important to see how the mindset of each colonist was
developed; these colonies went through a period known as the Enlightenment during
the 18th century. Also known as the Age of Reason, it was a time where thinkers,
philosophers, and colonists began to question the politics of government, the role of
the church, and human society. Revolutionary leaders were influenced by the major
writings of the Enlightenment, including those of John Locke and Benjamin Franklin,
that gleaned the concepts of the social contract, limited government, and the consent
of the governed. Locke s writings involved the natural law , that called

Cirrhosis and Related Liver Disorders
The liver is the largest gland and second largest organ in the human body. It is also
the only internal organ capable of regeneration following injury. Located in the
abdominal cavity, this reddish brown organ is divided into lobes of different size and
shape. The liver plays a critical role in metabolism, digestion, elimination, and
detoxification, among other processes. This organ performs a surprisingly large
number of functions that influence virtually all other body systems. This is why
diseases of the liver can be so devastating. One class of chronic diseases affecting the
liver is cirrhosis. (Kasper, 2008) Cirrhosis is a condition in which normal liver cells

These cells are also responsible for the regenerative capabilities of the liver.
Specialized macrophages, called Kupffer cells, also inhabit the liver. These cells
are capable of filtering bacteria and toxins from the blood. Kupffer cell activation
is also responsible for early alcohol induced liver injury. In a cirrhotic liver these
cells are replaced by scar tissue. Some of the damaged cells in the liver continue to
divide and form nodules. This restricts blood supply and greatly reduces liver
function. (Kasper, 2008) The liver is essential to digestion and subsequent
metabolic processes. It is a plays a large part in the processing of carbohydrates
and lipids. As carbohydrates are absorbed in the small intestine, they are first
brought to the liver via the portal vein. Depending on the needs of the body, the
liver will either store excess glucose as glycogen or breakdown glycogen to release
glucose into the bloodstream. Lipids are not soluble in water and cannot be
efficiently absorbed without bile produced by the liver. Bile emulsifies fats and
allows lipase, an essential protease produced by the pancreas, to effectively break
down complex lipids for absorption. The liver also detoxifies the body by trapping
toxins that have entered through digestion, the skin, or the respiratory system. The
first way that the liver detoxifies the body is through filtering the blood. It removes
viruses, bacteria, and

Rasputin played a part in the fall of the royal family but he was not the main
reason. The Tsar had no one to support and protect his family due to not seeing to
civilians needs. The overthrow of the Tsarist government was the ending of the
oppression and tyranny. Rasputin however did manipulate his ability to influence
government decisions. The Romanov Empire in Russia was a dynasty that had
been in power for over three hundred years and sadly ended with the last Romanov
family being murdered. Rasputin, although he was not royalty, he was close to the
family and had a hand in their downfall but was not the main reason for the

Within a decade of The Island of Dr. Moreau hitting shelves, the brown dog affair
rocked both the scientific and animal suffrage circles of European society. While the
shift of popular opinion to prioritize the treatment of animals in the early parts of the

continuing journey. Other literary works of the period such as The Jungle penned by
Upton Sinclair, illustrated how awful conditions actually were on the ground inside
food processing plants for the animals being handled; and to a lesser degree the
workers handling them. To think that a movement extolling animal rights such as the
brown dog affair could coexist in the same western society that engaged in such
horrific practice when it pertained to other uses of animals, such a agriculture.

There are many experiences and situations one goes through throughout life that
shape them and make them who they are. There are numerous people in this world
who feel as though they have it so terrible in life, and that there is no way anyone
else could have it worse than they do. After watching the film Precious, based on the
novel Push by Sapphire, any person with this mindset would completely think
otherwise. The life lived by Claireece Precious Jones was utterly cruel and unusual.
Physical abuse plays a huge role in this film. I am so thankful that sexual abuse has
never played a role in my life. The toll it took on this young girl is so heartbreaking. I
could not bear having to be afraid to come home every day wondering if my father
is there waiting to hurt me. A father is someone who every little girl and young
lady should be excited to see when coming home. With everything she has had to
experience because of that disgusting man, she also learns that she has caught aids
from him. I m not sure what s worse, the fact that precious is a 16 year old young
girl who is sexually abused by her father and winds up with AIDS and pregnant, or
the fact that for the rest of life, she will have to keep such a secret from her daughter.
In the film, Precious mom has a strong hatred towards her daughter causing a life
full of emotional abuse for Precious. I myself, felt as though she was just upset with
her all the time because they lived in poverty and it was hard on her
37. Persuasive Literary Devices In Could We Be Amusing...
Could We Be Amusing Ourselves to Death?
The evolution of technology has become indescribable. Technology is prevalent in
our society, as well as its portrayal in the media, a seemingly essential aspect of our
everyday lives. Although many idolize how technology has improved our lives,
many fail to recognize technology s faults. By using three persuasive literary devices
(pathos, logos, and ethos), Neil Postman expresses his concern for technological
advancement and possible failure in the book Amusing Ourselves to Death. Logos
appeals to logic; when using a persuasive device such as logos, you are using
logical reasoning to appeal to the reader. When using logos, you must include
facts, statistics, and citing credible sources. By using ethos, the author conveys his
ideas while being well aware of what he is talking about by utilizing credible
sources. Pathos, however, conveys the author s ideas by appealing to the reader s
emotions. Postman does an outstanding job of orchestrating a piece using the most
popular persuasive elements. Postman was able to incorporate all three of these
devices into his book, but the most prominent one in my opinion, and that helps to
best convey Postman s point, is logos; statistics and facts are two things you very
rarely can fight against. Over and over Postman uses facts on how the media is
basically dumbing us down. For example, Postman pointed out that with the rise of
the televised age there was then a decrease in literacy.

Tens of thousands more died in the following weeks from wounds and radiation
poisoning. On the 9th of August, another bomb was dropped on the city of
Nagasaki, killing between 40 000 and 50 000 more people. The question is, was it
necessary for the Unites States to drop the atomic bombs on Japan? In my opinion,
the United States was justified in dropping the atomic bombs on Japan. During the
course of the Second World War, the United States suffered the loss of more than
418 000 lives, both military officials and civilians. This was one of the reasons why
the United States wanted the

Harding appointed to his ICC Board men that were more lenient on the railroad

40. Should The Past Be Judged
Should the Past be Judged?
We can learn a lot from consulting the past. We learn more about our world, more
about our history, and even more about ourselves. Spanish aphorist George
Santayana once said: Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat
it (qtd. in Moncur 1). In general terms, this famous aphorism means that it is
important for us to study and learn from history in order to avoid repeating the same
mistakes. However, the standards and values that we use today to judge the present
are much different than they were in the past. What may have seemed like the right
thing to do one hundred years ago might not be viewed the same way today. In her

Cody s Wild West showsweren t just used to preserve the buffalo species; they were
used to depict his actions as an Indian fighter. Buffalo Bill was a plainsman, but the
place he might have held on the picture plane of the West was severely
compromised and ultimately lost to the theatrical pretentions of the Wild West
Show (Momaday 638). For Cody, these shows were just a transformation into an
imitation of himself. The great fascination and peril of Cody s life was the riddle of
who he really was. The thing that opposed him, and perhaps betrayed him, was
above all else the mirage of his own identity (Momaday 631). In this essence, it is
important for us to judge the past. Despite his treatment of the Indians, Cody is still
an authentic American hero.
Buffalo Bill isn t the only figure in American history to be viewed in this
controversial manner. Consider the actions of Christopher Columbus after
discovering America. In 1492, Columbus set out on a voyage across the Atlantic
Ocean in an effort to prove that the world was round. After spending two months at
sea, Columbus finally reached what he thought was India but was actually Central
America. Columbus is credited for being the first to generate European awareness of
the American continents in the Western Hemisphere. His voyages eventually led to
the colonization of the Americas and the development of a modern world. After
Columbus, more and more explorers set out to the Americas,

look at films. Before this class, I watched movies for their content as well as for
entertainment and enjoyment. This summer, I have learned that you must analyze
films to fully appreciate the work. I will no longer watch films for enjoyment, but I
will watch them for all that they are worth. When watching films, my perspective has
changed, causing me to analyze the camera work elements, and how the filmties into
American life and culture.
Before this class, I never knew that there was so much work and detail put into
producing films. The camera work was put into these films for a specific reason, and
when I realized this my thought process changed. I realized that in many cases the
camera work is what made the movie, not the plot. Once, I had this understanding, I
started to break down the camera work into the many different elements that
composed it. By doing so, I could fully appreciate and understand the purpose of each
element. The camera shot that is visible on screen was thoughtfully designed. The
type of shot used, whether it was a closeup, medium shot, American shot, or long shot
had a reasoning behind it. The director had to decide whether he wanted to focus on
the character or specific details about the character s actions or emotions as well as
how much of the background to feature. The usage of only

The modern state today exists as an absolute. The world s current political and
economic stage is set and maintained by states cooperating with other states, and will
continue to be dominated by the state. The modern state exists today as a
culmination of historical and political events, and serves as the single most defining
element of modern power and politics, particularly on the global scale, as modern
legitimacy of rule, power, and governance, exists by and through the state. The world
today is defined by the state. Every measure of social, political, and economic power
gains legitimacy from the state, and from interstate coalitions such as the United
Nations and the European Union. Political theorist Harold Laski defined the modern

It is through state governance that policies are formed ad enforced on a national
level, and through interstate cooperation that treaties are made and upheld on an
international level. Individual states continue to emerge in Europe, as seen in the
cases of the former Soviet Union, which split into 15 unique states in 1991, and in
Yugoslavia, which fractured into some seven states between the years of 1991 and
2012, when Kosovo was formally recognized as a sovereign state, and new states will
persist as the world advances and formerly undeveloped and dependent regions join
the global community as sovereign
43. Catch Probability Research Paper
The newest tool created by the people that brought us Statcast is Catch Probability.
Catch Probability (http://m.mlb.com/news/article/217802340/statcast introduces
catch probability for 2017/) attempts to determine the difficulty to catch each ball
hit into the outfield based on how far the fielder had to run to catch the ball and
how long he had to get there. Based on the ability to quantify each play, they ve put
many catches into five categories (http://m.mlb.com/news/article/218680408/dalton
pompey helps explain catch probability/). Five star plays are converted between 0 to
25 percent of the time and require a speed of 30 feet per fastest second, four star
plays are converted between 26 to 50 percent of the time and require a speed of 29
feet per fastest second, three star plays are converted 51 to 75 percent of the time and
require a speed of 28 feet per fastest second, two star plays are converted 76 to 90
percent of the time while requiring a speed of 27 feet per fastest second and one star
plays are converted 91 to 95 percent of the time and require a speed of 26 feet per
fastest second.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For each outfielder in these years, Baseball Savant tells the users the number of
opportunities in each of these five categories that an outfielder had and how many
times he converted an opportunity. Using this data for each outfielder with at least
50 opportunities, it s possible to determine the league average in a category and how
many catches above or below average an outfielder is presuming he faced an average
difficulty of catch in each

Over the years a few other administrators such as Prof Mahmud Ali Shah and Prof S
H Rahimtoola were assigned both the positions of Principal Dow Medical College
and Medical Superintendent Civil Hospital Karachi in an effort to better coordinate
the functions on the campus. However after the upgradation of the Dow Medical
College into the Dow University of Health Sciences a few years ago, there is a clear
cut demarcation between the hospital s academic and administrative responsibilities.
Prof M Saeed Quraishy is the current Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital

45. Comparing The Open Boat And To Build A Fire
The illusion of free will is dominant as a theme in both the The Open Boat by
Stephen Crane and To Build a Fire by Jack London, as the characters struggle to stay
alive in the face of the unforgiving environment. For instance, in The Open Boat the
characters try to fight against the ocean and the environment around them, but they
soon realize it is the environment controlling them and their fighting is of no use. In
the story To Build a Fire , the main character has allowed his mind to deceive
himself as he perceives himself safe in the arctic, but that all changes when the fire
goes out and the cold environment absorbs him. However, the difference between the
two stories is that the environment in To Build a Fire suppresses the man,... Show

However, the illusion is far greater in the story To Build a Fire as the character is
figuratively absorbed by the environment, while only one of the men die in The Open
Boat . Furthermore, the control of the environment on the characters is immense in
the story To Build a Fire , He was losing in his battle with the frost. It was creeping
into his body from all sides. (1057) The environment literally takes control of the
man s fate, while the men in The Open Boat are pushed around a little less
dramatically, The wind bore coldness with it, and the men began to shiver. Holy
smoke! Said one, allowing his voice to express his impious mood (998). In
addition, the tone or mood of both stories differs even they both are controlled by
the environment. The tone of To Build a Fire is frightening as the cold arctic air
takes hold of the man, A certain fear of death, dull and oppressive came to him......it
was a matter of life and death with chances against him (1056). Moreover, the story
The Open Boat is slightly less dramatic as all but one man makes it shore safely.
Finally, the environment proves that free will is an illusion in both short
46. Opera Roles
On stage, singers bring the story to life through acting and singing the words along
to the music played by the orchestra much in the same way as a musical. What
makes an opera different to a musical is that the singers are unamplified by
microphones and the orchestra is much larger and plays entirely live. The main
characters are sung by principals who are often guest artists who work freelance and
perform with different operacompanies. The Chorus includes twenty female and
twenty males singers who, depending on the opera, either commentate on the main
action or on occasion take the story forward themselves. Members of the Chorus
will also take some of the smaller roles in certain operas. The Chorus are what makes
an opera special, they
