Dna Phenotyping Case
Camou, Savannah
Building a Face and a Case on DNA In his New York Times article Building a Face, and a Case, on
DNAAndrew Pollack discusses recent advances in technology, and science, both connecting to DNA.
Pollack explains DNA phenotyping, the process of predicting an organism s phenotype using only
genetic information collected from genotyping or DNA sequencing, and how police and other law
enforcement have been applying it to solve crimes. By using DNA phenotyping law enforcement can
generate a face by a computer using only DNA found at the scene of a crime. Although DNA
phenotyping can determined a suspect s eye and hair color accurately, it still has a ways to go to being
able to fully generate a suspects face. Pollack states, DNA, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Murphy herself writes the process as to how the portraits are made, Their software yields an image in
a matter of minutes, rapidly drawing connections between genetic markers and points on the face. In
less time than it takes to make a cup of coffee, a sketch emerges inferred solely from DNA. Even
though the process itself is quick, the portrait resembles an avatar. Murphy s New York Time s science
colleagues conducted a somewhat unscientific experiment, sending in samples of a two colleagues,
having the system generate a portrait using only DNA, and finally identifying. The first image shown
had a dozen people respond that they could not make out who the portrait was of due the images being
too generic. The portrait was of Mr. John Markoff, who was almost entirely Ashkenazi Jewish and ten

Comparing The ICTY And The International Criminal Tribunal...
At the end of the Cold War, a more widespread interest in post conflict reconstruction was becoming
more prevalent. The main components of this interest during the post reconciliation period were
accountability and reconciliation. To facilitate this in two different post conflict environments, two
respective tribunals were established. These tribunals were known as the ICTY (The International
Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, est.1993) and ICTR (International Criminal Tribunal for
Rwanda, est.1994) . The ICTY was formed to address the conflict in former Yugoslavia. The situation
started when two of the six republics of Yugoslavia, Slovenia and Croatia, declared their independence
after the fall of the Berlin Wall. This sparked a lengthy and lethal conflict within the territory. The
atrocities that allegedly had been committed included but were not limited to, genocide, rape, and
enslavement. Many of the victims were civilians. Because of this the ICTY was created during the war
as an international criminal court that applied humanitarian law. It s purpose was to gather
information, create an account of events, and prosecute those responsible for committing crimes .
The ICTY is considered the first international court. Since it was the first of it s kind, the court was not
without controversy. From the beginning, the method of establishing the tribunal was up for debate.
The ICTY did not have the legal authority to establish itself. Some states wanted a treaty to

Albert Camus-the Outsider
Probably no European writer of his time left so deep a mark on the imagination. Conor Cruise O
Brien.
First published in French as L Etranger in 1942, Albert
Camus The Outsider addresses the constrictive nature of society and what happens when an individual
tries to break free from the conformity forced upon him by staying true to himself, and following his
own ideal of absolute truth and sincerity in every action. Propelled more by the philosophy of
existentialism and the notion of the absurd than plot and characters, Camus novel raises many
questions about life, and answers them in a final chilling climax.
The plot of The Outsider revolves around a central act of unmeditated violence on a beach, proving
that the darkest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Existentialism refers to the philosophy that questions life which exists in a hostile environment.
Camus, along with his friend, fellow writer, and French Resistance leader Jean Paul Sartre pushed this
train of thought into mainstream culture. In the extended essay The Myth of Sisyphus, Camus realises
the only philosophical question worth asking is whether or not to commit suicide. The absurd nature
of life referred to is the incompatibility of incomprehensible circumstances such as impending death,
cruelty, violence, genocide and racism, and the overwhelming desire for, and expectation of a happy
life and the principles of optimism. One primary example of the absurd given in the text is the co
existence of the suffering and joy in life. This view of absurdity is shared with the existentialist
Simone de Beauvoir who contends that the suffering in death is a scandal . The hostile environment,
or constant, harsh circumstances are represented in the text by the oppressive heat of the sun which is
ever present at the side of Meursault s consciousness. He feels it as he walks to his mother s funeral
service through the French countryside; He feels it beating down on him when he s out swimming
with a girl, Marie; he feels its uncomfortable, abrasive fire inescapably as he fires the bullets into the
Arab s body. Meursault becomes aware of the absurdity of life on the eve of his death as he realises
that he s happy , and

Minotaur Research Paper
The myth of the Minotaur comes from the Island of Crete. King Minos of Crete was the son of Europa
and Zeus, but King Asterion still raised Minos as his own along with his two brothers. To become king
after Asterion had passed, Minos prayed to the God Poseidon to provide him with a spectacular white
bull to sacrifice to the god. Poseidon granted Mino s wish, showing the people, he was the rightful
ruler over his two brothers. Minos however, did not sacrifice the bull and chosen a lesser one in its
place. Poseidon became angry over Mino s disobedience. Mino s wife, Pasiphae, was installed with
lusting desire for the white bull by Poseidon as revenge. With the help of Daedalus and Icarus,
Pasiphae became pregnant by the animal. The name of Minotaur

Introduction
I am currently working as an Associate Planner for the City of Bakersfield s Economic Development
Division located at 1715 Chester Avenue in Bakersfield, Ca. The Economic Development Division is
part of the Community Development Department which is made up of the Economic Development,
Planning, and Building Divisions. My department works, to assist in the creation of new affordable
housing and rehabilitate existing housing stock with community partners, partner with local
organizations to provide community services, and respond to Fair Housing concerns in the City of
Bakersfield ( Community Development , 2014). My job, in particular, is to manage the Community
Development Block Grants, and Emergency Solutions Grants issued by the U.S. Department of
Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
The Research Issue
All cities are faced with the complicated issue of addressing housing needs for their population. Even
more complex are the needs of the city s low income neighborhoods and residents. In addition,
according to the article, Social Inequities in Environmental Risks Associated with Housing and
Residential Location A Review of Evidence by Braubacth and Fairburn, there is a, strong link between
housing characteristics and health. To help address these issues and protect the health of our citizens,
the City of Bakersfield receives grant funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development (HUD). The purpose of such funds is to benefit low and

A Discussion Of Regression Results
Discussion of Regression Results
In order to empirically examine the extent to which changes in the price of chicken causes changes in
broiler (chicken) consumption, time series data was collected on 40 observations extending from 1960
to 1999 on nine explanatory variables in total. I regressed this data using an Ordinary Least Squares
(OLS) approach. The main explanatory variable used for my analysis was the consumer price index
(CPI) for whole fresh chicken with the base years denoted as the 1982 to 1984 time period. The
econometric model for my regression analysis is listed below:
Broiler Consumption = a+β_(1 ) (CPI of broilers)+ β_2 (income)+ β_3 (population)+β_(4 ) (CPI for
beef)+β_(5 ) (PPI for corn)+ β_(6 ) (NPI for broiler feed)+β_7 (CPI)+β_8 (AP of Broilers)+β_9
(population)+β_(10 ) (exports of beef,veal and pork)+ ε
Data regarding my dependent variable was originally collected as pounds consumed per capita.
However, I multiplied the per capita broiler consumption data by 100,000 to obtain broiler
consumption in pounds per 100,000 people. In this way, I was able to obtain a larger coefficient on a
few of the explanatory variables, which allowed for a more suitable display and discussion of the
results in the paper. Further, the objective of this analysis was to explain to what extent price of
broilers, represented as the consumer price index on whole fresh chicken, impacts broiler consumption
in pounds. Specifically, the coefficients on the

How I Learned From The Class Writings
As I look back to when I first started taking this class I began to think about the things that I have
learned. It had been quite a long time since I wrote anything other than basic notes or letters before I
started taking the EN100 course. In fact, I have never been much of a writer even when writing about
subjects I enjoy, so when the Justice was brought up as the main topic of the papers that we would be
writing over the semester I was less then pleased. Now that my misgivings as a writer and my distain
for the overall subject matter are out in the open, let s get back to the subject at hand. What have I
learned in EN100 or more specifically, what have I learned from each of the papers I wrote on justice
and from the in class writings? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another thing I learned from that first paper is that it is not acceptable to forsake the freedoms of some
in order to better the majority. John Rawls, wrote in his book, A Theory of Justice that Each person
possesses an inviolability founded on justice that even the welfare of society as a whole cannot
override. For this reason justice denies that the loss of freedoms for some is made right by the greater
good shared by others. So not only should justice be upheld for all people, regardless of their situation,
but that these rights should not be overlooked in order to merely appease a majority.
My second paper entitled Unjust American Justice showcased an article by Talia Jane called 5 ways
America s Justice System Is Designed to Screw You. I learned from writing this paper is that someone
cannot simply use facts that are based on a single persons experience if that person does not allow
people to check their facts by withholding the name of their source. When writing one should always
try to state facts, not opinion or bias experience. When reading any article

The Evolution Of Punishment And Its Effect On Society
Introduction
The evolution of punishment has come a long way in Canada from Confederation in the 1800 s to
present day 21st century. Research has been going on continuously to identify whether these
punishments are based on a person s behaviour or on society itself. The word punishment is referred to
as a penalty inflicted on an offender through judicial procedure ( Punishment | Definition of
Punishment by Merriam Webster ). In today s society does the punishment equivalent to the crime
committed by an offender? Therefore, how much punishment should one receive based on their
offence? It is a conflicting matter that has brought the government and the public into speculation on
the judicial system from time to time. Punishment is a philosophy, which states many years back when
someone was seen committing wrongdoings they were punished by cutting off their heads or hanging
them.
During the evolution it used to be an eye for an eye, if you killed me, I went after your family as
revenge. The days have changed, where now they have introduced the Canadian Bill of laws, to help
with the punishment of offenders. Now capital punishment is punishments that result in death
penalties for people who have committed capital crimes, and offences. It is viewed around the world
as something different. For example, in certain parts of the world people do not believe in punishment,
whereby in some parts they do believe and take very extreme measures. In parts of the world such as

Essay on The Business Plot
If someone were to ask you if you could imagine a world where the United States was a fascist
dictatorship, you would most likely, laugh in his or her face. After all, the United States is the poster
child of a capitalistic society and even has that American dream. What people don t realize is that in
1933 a group of elite businessmen and some powerful companies tried to plot the staging of a coup
with the help of a Marine Corps Major General by the name of Smedley Butler. This may have been
plotted because of the financial situation the United States was in at the time, and was eventually
brought to the attention of Congress during a hearing through his testimony. Also, because there is
evidence supporting this theory I do believe it; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this [time], [a now] retired Marine Corps General Smedley Darlington Butler was approached
by two members of the American Legion: Bill Doyle, and Gerald C. MacGuire. This Legion operated
under the guise of a veteran s rights society. The men, initially approached Butler to speak at a nearing
meeting; they explained that they were hoping that Butler s speech would persuade the others
members that they needed to remove the current management something that could be called
conditioning or a sort of test. Even though Butler listened to what they had to say, he had refused on
the grounds that he did not want to interfere. Coming up with a new plan the two men approached
Butler again, this time discreetly offering him $100,000 in bank deposits. After Butler arrived, in the
spectator gallery the Legionnaires were to leap to their feet demanding he speak. MacGuire then
produced the prepared speech he wanted Butler to give. The speech given was suspicious sounding in
nature, it was to convince the veterans, who were due a second bonus payment, that if they were not
paid in money backed by gold, their bonuses would be compromised. Another attempt to condition
and/or test on Butler to see if he could do their bidding. These men underestimated or pretty much
ignored Butler s support for Roosevelt and his patriotism, which, for a fact, wasn t a secret.
After many meetings MacGuire eventually

Water Is A Important Component Of Life
1) Water is a very important component of life, our bodies are mostly comprised of water and water
covers over 70 percent of the earth s surface. Water is important for the sustainment of life, every
organisms depends on some type of water source. Plants, animals, and insects can not survive absent
of water wether it is a couple of days or a couple of months. Water is a special element of life because
of its chemical bonds, the chemical formula for water is H2O, which means that water contains two
hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. These atoms are held together by hydrogen bonds, the
hydrogen bonds. The strong cohesive bond of the atoms in water are important, this makes water
molecules much stronger than many other liquids. Water also ... Show more content on

It has been mandated that water be boiled for at least an hour before using it as potable water. Another
type of water containment that is monitored by the Environmental Division of Ft. Stewart are
pesticides and fertilizers. Pesticides are commonly used in and around house, the problem is that
pesticides contain chlordane lindane, and DDT. Ingestion of pesticides is especially dangerous because
the body can not detoxify many of the chemicals. Essentially the hazardous chemical will accumulate
in the body causing a variety of acute illnesses, because pesticides chemicals can accumulate in the

intentionally removed water from a group of animals and only gave out a rationed portion, that could
be considered animal abuse or neglect. It is not acceptable to allow people to use contaminated water,
no matter where in the world clean water is necessary. On the other hand, I have been to impoverished

The Impact Of Aircraft On The United Kingdom Of World War II
Aircraft have always played an important role when taking us to places otherwise inaccessible.
Whether it be an airliner with passengers or military carrier, air travel results in faster, more efficient
completion of task. The way we navigate the skies can make or break the success of business or
military operations. However, there are some dangers that exist. Being thousands of feet up in the sky
leaves us prone to catastrophic failure of a component or detection and engagement from defensive air
and ground forces. Safety is a must and as a result, advanced technologies, shaped and inspired by
renowned conflicts and events, such as radar jamming systems , were developed in order to insure the
safety of those on the ground and in the sky. At the dawn of World War II, the U.S. were in no way a
threat to any other country, yet were serving partially as a provider for its European allies. Have been
given freedom to do so by the Lend Lease bill, the U.S provided significant military supplies and other
aids mostly to the United Kingdom and other allies involved in the war against Nazi Germany. It wasn
t until December 7, 1941 when America joined the war after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. This
attack later led Hitler crazed Germany and Italy to join Japan in a declaration of war against the
United States. The United States were now cornered by forces from different sides of the world. Even

Once any bleeding is under control, chemotaxis occurs and inflammatory cells migrate into the wound
and promote the inflammatory phase, which is characterised by the successive influx of neutrophils,
macrophages and lymphocytes.
Neutrophils start with the critical task of destroying and removing bacteria, foreign particles and any
remaining damaged tissue. This phagocytic activity is crucial as bacterial imbalance within acute
wounds causes the wound to stop healing. Neutrophils are attracted to the site of injury within 24 36
hours by pro inflammatory cytokines including TGF β. Neutrophils are one of the most abundant cells

Mr. Poe could not possibly send forth a book without some marks of his genius, and mixed up with the
dross we find much sterling ore. (From a review of Poe s Tales, September 6, 1845.) In 1845, Poe, 27,
and Virginia, 13, married, and were happy for a time. In 1842, Virginia ruptured a blood vessel; the
first sign of the ill health that plagued her short life. Poe turned to alcohol to cope with her illness and
the stress of his dying wife. Two years later, Virginia died of tuberculosis, and Poe s own death would
follow shortly two years after that. The Raven, published in 1845, brought Poe temporary popular and
critical acclaim. The Raven was a personal challenge Edgar imposed upon himself. Poe originally
wanted to use a parrot instead of a raven, but he felt it didn t evoke the right tone. He also wanted to
write a 100 line poem, but ended up with 108 lines, which was good enough for Poe. The one and only
novel Poe completed, Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket, was about these crew members
drawing straws for who would be eaten after their boat capsized; they drew straws, and ate Richard
Parker. The book flopped. Even though Poe said it was a true story, almost all the critics didn t believe
him. They were right to since at the time Poe s book wasn t true, but just five years later a similar
wreck happened with the same lead character name Richard Parker, though there was no cannibalism.

Summary Of David Chura s Life
1.Overall David Chura s appearance was impacting enough. As someone who wants to go into this
field it was great to have someone who lived through it come in and talk to us. One component of the
discussion that really spoke out was the fact that each chapter was a reflection of what really
happened. So many authors write from ideas in their head. Even some individuals who went through
something and chose to write about it still change certain aspects about it. David actually took his
journals that he wrote and formed that into the book. It is great because the wording and emotions that
are brought while reading the book were some of what David was actually feeling that day when he
reflected on what happened and chose to write about it. In addition, ... Show more content on

What was learned in the classroom that day, brought some great points that can be beneficial in real
life. For example, when looking at the correctional officers who are power crazy, that is something
that is good to have knowledge of. In addition, even if my career does not end up in a jail, you can see
these characteristics in individuals in just about any workplace. The only difference is it is probably
not to the same extent. Another lesson that can be benefiting is the fact that when working with this
specific population problems can arise when they are released. This is something important to
consider when entering the field. For example, David said that he played a positive role with the
inmates for the most part although he still is hesitant for the individuals he helped. This brought the
idea that what about if the individual does not have a positive role with the inmates and they are
released. What are the concerns with seeing these individuals out in public? David summed it up very
well about acknowledging them if they acknowledge you, but it is important not to bring attention to it
due to the fact that some individuals do not want others to acknowledge their past. Furthermore, a
great component that was learned was the fact that David touched on self care. In this field work it can
be very easy to take the stress from the inmate s home with you. Some are just given a bad hand at life
and did not deserve the abuse they encountered. David said that he would

Midsummer Night Dream Analysis
A Midsummer s Night Dream
William Shakespeare is a successful playwright as he uses the style of history, tragedy and comedy
which is an entertaining aspect that is in all his plays.
One of his plays, A midsummer s night dream , includes the themes of love and magic, where love is
represented as a force that makes people act in irrational ways to entertain the audience in a comical
and dramatic way. He used different techniques throughout the play to create a tumultuous and
intriguing factor. The storyline of the play follows various couples such as Hermia and Lysander and
Oberon and Titania. These couples show examples of irrational behaviours with love and magic
throughout the play.
Hermia and Lysander behave irrationally throughout the whole play because they re head over heels
for each other; however, their love is oppressed by both her father Egeus and the strict Athenian law.
In Act 1, Scene 1 when Egeus is at court with Hermia he uses a demanding and dominating tone to
state, as she is mine i may dispose of her This causes them to act spontaneously and irrationally and as
a consequence, they run away from Athens to get married. This entertains the audience by adding
more conflict and complication to the story. After they elope to the forest, magic becomes the force
that turns love to a dramatic and conflict filled experience that is also entertaining. Lysander acts in
irrational ways when he is put under the spell of Love in Idleness where he states how madly he loves
on Helena, and how much he hates Hermia. Hang off, thou cat, thou burr! Vile thing, let loose, / or I
will shake thee from me like a serpent. Derogatory language and repetition is used to emphasise his
hate toward Hermia and orders her to leave him alone. For example, in Act 3, Scene 2, Lysander has
fallen in love with Helena and tells Hermia how he hates her. Out, loathed medicine! O hated potion,
hence! Conflict between characters create comedy in the play which entertains the audience because
of the dramatic irony. Lysander s insults in the statement are repetition as it is the same meaning but in
different words. This language technique emphasises that Lysander wants Hermia to leave him alone.
Oberon and Titania are the

Perverse Feminine Masochism
Perverse feminine masochism From the case study of Mary, we propose the notion of perverse
feminine masochism as antinomic with erotic feminine masochism, the latter being based on the
change of desired object. The desire to be penetrated by the father, then by the lover, supports the
investment of penetration as a promised opening. Thus, whereas erotic feminine masochism relies on
the primary erogenous masochism, constitutes a basis of the first narcissistic foundations and
counterinvests moral masochism, for some people, the encounter with the sexual might be
contrastingly traumatizing and reactive pregenital anxieties of intrusion that may be compared with a
revivification of incest (Schaeffer, 2002). Perverse feminine masochism is made

were close to the same. A large portion of deaths in POW camps were from lack of food (Uhl 1). The
recommended daily minimum was a 2,000 calorie diet (Rees 5).However this was impossible to do
with the shortage of food. (Rees 5). Some of the food was potatoes and moldy bread (Uhl 1) which
was part sawdust (Uhl 1). Many only got 5 grams of bread (Solzhenitsyn 25). Millions of people were
surely to die (Jones 11). Although the camps were harsh, the prisoners were allowed to do many
activities such as sports, newspaper, musicals, and more (Uhl 2). Many camps featured musical and
plays to entertain others and to be used as propaganda (Uhl 2). Even though the POW s had better
choices, they were still beaten and murdered like the others captured. (Uhl 2). In eight months, Nazis
murdered 2.8 Russian Pow s, exceeding the amount of mass murder during the holocaust. (Uhl 2).
While in the camps, many died from the Baatan Death March that killed off all remaining prisoners of
the Japanese ( Prisoners of War 4). The weather was also a large aspect to the deaths. The prisoner s

A Pro Versus Con Argumentative Article Essay
In America we currently have tax placed on our gas. However, with new changes in the automotive
industry, there have been ideas of changing the tax to a tax based on miles travelled rather than gas.
Mr. Earl Blumenauer and Mr. Phil Byrd both expressed their strong views on the topic in a pro versus
con argumentative article. Blumenauer and Byrd both built up their credibility by using strong
sources, including facts and statistics, and appealing to the readers emotions; however towards the end
of the article both sides had a slight flaw which weakened their credibility.
When analyzing both viewpoints of the topic, the credibility of the sources and appeals to ethos in the
article are very important. The pro side of the article was written by Earl Blumenauer, a sponsor for
the Road Usage Fee Pilot Program Act. After looking further into his profession, he works as a
congressman for Oregon. Since he is only a sponsor for the program, there are unanswered questions
as to if he is knowledgeable enough on the subject of these types of taxes. After further reading you
learn that he actually used his job as a representative to introduce the Pilot Programming Act to
congress. The program is taking place in Oregon, where they are beginning projects in hope of
switching over to a tax on miles travelled rather than gas. Whereas, the con side was written by Phil
Byrd, the chairman for the American Trucking Association and the president of Bulldog Hiway
Express. He seems like the more

However, he does not claim to be a god and wishes not be to worshipped as such. Instead, the
medicine man is paid for his services in livestock, turquoise, blankets, rugs, and etc. The Navajo
believe there are two classes of beings, The Holy people and the Earth people. The Earth people of the
Navajo must do everything they can to maintain the peace and harmony of Mother Earth since they
are an integral part of the universe. According to Discover Navajo, it is believed that centuries ago the
Holy People taught the Navajo how to live the right way and to conduct their many acts of everyday
life (Navajo culture, 2008). The Navajo people were taught to live one with animals, insects, man, and
plants. Mt. Blanca to the east, Mt. Taylor to the south, San Francisco Peak to the west and Mr.
Hesperus to the North near Durango, Colorado, were put in place by the holy people in the four
different directions. Jet Black, Turquoise, White Shell, and Yellow Abalone represent the four
directions. The Navajo culture uses the number four to symbolize many other different things. For
example, there are four seasons and four distinct directions. The Navajo economy depended on two
primary sources agriculture learned from the pueblo peoples and livestock such as sheep, goats, and
horses obtained initially form the Spaniards. Because the San Juan River was one of the few reliable
sources of water in Navajo territory, during the summer months

This means that you won t become a rich vineyard owner overnight.
Running a vineyard is definitely a long term investment and you could have to wait for decade or two
before you start to reap benefits. If this isn t what you are looking for then you are better off searching
for other type of investments.
Not everyone gets into the business as a quest to make some money. If you are just looking to turn
your passion for wine into a hobby, then you don t need to bury your dreams. As you will see later on
in the guide, there are different ways to get into the wine business and your goals as a winery owner
might influence which of these routes you take. The key is to understand the realities of starting and

Purple Business Research Papers
When looking for an article to do this report on, I wanted to write about something that pertained to
my life. Upon the completion of graduation, I plan to work in the sports field with eventually my own
side business of handmade home décor and calligraphy signs. I came across an article about a small
business called Purple that creates their own unique type of mattresses. They are competing in an
extremely aggressive market, which I will be doing when I begin to create my own business. It was
insightful to see a small business teaming up with a bigger entity and there still being mutual respect
between the two. The company Purple is founded by two brothers, Tony and Terry Pierce. They

Purple to merge with. When speaking about Purple, Zeph said, we wanted a company that would have
a good growth profile and Purple not only fits that profile, but overall is the best opportunity that we
ve seen. Purple will complete a reverse merger with GPAC. A reverse merger allows a private
company to become public without having to go through the long process of going public and all it
entails. After that merger is complete, Purple s shareholders will own all of eighty six percent of the
company. Before, the two brothers held eighty eight percent and the employees had the rest. This
merger will bring a lot of cash to the shareholders and company itself. With the money, they company
gets from the merger, it will go towards expansion. The expansion will be to build out and onto the
headquarters in Tooele, Utah. Within that factory, Purple was hoping to reach two million dollars in
sales.

Importance and Relevance of Cultural Stories
Cultural Stories Cultural narratives reveal aspects of their indigenous culture while at the same time
reflecting universal truths. This paper examines three stories that are germane to their native culture
while also dealing with the universal theme of individuation, the process by which one becomes aware
of oneself, distinct from other people. Each of the stories were written by authors from different
cultures: Hansel and Gretel was written by The Brother s Grimm in Germany, The Wolf and The
Lamb is an Aesop s Fable from Greece, and The Jungle Book is a set of stories written by Rudyard
Kipling in England. Although The Wolf and The Lamb and The Jungle Book each feature animal
characters, they are anthropomorphized to the extent that they still incorporate the individuation
process as a prominent trope. In each of the stories, the main character undertakes the journey from
innocence to experience and must learn how to assert and defend himself in the face of danger and
adversity. Although Hansel and Gretel features two (eponymous) main characters rather than one, the
story still addresses the need for children to undertake the process of individuation and fend for
themselves rather than relying on one s elders. At the beginning of the story, Hansel and Gretel are na
誰ve; they rely on their parents, neither of whom can adequately care for them (they are cold and
underfed), yet the two children are also unable to adequately care for themselves. For example,

Literature Review Of Royal Jelly
REVIEW OF LITERATURE Royal jelly (RJ) is a honeybee product secreted from the
hypopharyngeal and mandibular glands of the worker honeybees. It contains a mixture of very
important compounds that give it therapeutic and nutritional properties. These compounds as protein,
glucose, lipid, vitamins, minerals, aspartic acid, gelatin, sterols, phosphorous compounds,
acetylcholine, nucleic acids, and numerous trace ingredients. The ingredients are in the form of water,
crude protein and monosaccharides. The remainder of the royal jelly is composed of an ether soluble
fraction of fatty acid (Galaly et al., 2014).
Royal jelly is a viscous jelly substance which is partially soluble in water with a density of 1.1 g/ ml.
Its colour is whitish to yellow, the yellow color increases upon storage. Its odor is pungent, the taste
being sour and sweet. Old RJ, which stored for long time tends to be darker and possess a rancid taste.
For optimum quality, RJ should be stored in frozen state. According to water content, the viscosity of
RJ varies and it slowly becomes more viscous when stored at room temperature or in a refrigerator at
5ºC. The viscosity of RJ increases with increment of water insoluble nitrogenous compounds and a
reduction in soluble nitrogen and free amino acids (Ramadan and Al Ghamdi, 2012).
Royal jelly contains proteins, more than 80% of RJ proteins are soluble proteins called major royal
jelly proteins (MRJPs) which are glycoproteins. These proteins perform

People In Japanese Internment Camps
On December 7, 1941 the Japanese empire attacked Pearl Harbor. 2,400 Americans were killed and
1,200 injured. President Franklin D. Roosevelt immediately took action. In February 19, 1942 he
signed the executive order 9066. This executive order gave military army s immense power. They
were to take everyone with Japanese ancestry to internment camps were they would be held captive.
All of these military areas would exclude all the people of Japanese ancestry, just because they were
considered dangerous . The Japanese people did not know if they would be imprisoned or deported.

All the camps had schools, hospitals, libraries and even post offices, but most of these were built by
the people living in those camps. A large amount of Japanese Americans died due to inadequate
medical care while others were killed by guards for not following the rules. It was all as in a prison
there was guard towers, barbed wire and the people didn t have the right to leave whenever they
wanted if they did try to leave or escape they would be shot and killed. Their life was extremely
restricted. In 1945 all internees were freed almost all their belongings were in ruins in World War 2
more than 20,000 Japanese Americans served in the U.S.A army. 45 years later the congress passed
the civil liberties act which acknowledged that the internment camps had been a grave injustice and
mandated congress to pay each victim of internment 20,000 dollars in reparation. As you can see,
Japanese internment was an important event in American history but it also affected a lot of families

Animal Experimentation
The various experiments are performed on living animals especially to test the effects of chemical
compounds such as new drugs, cosmetics, food additives and pesticides. The application of animals to
test a large number of products from household compounds and cosmetics to pharmaceutical has been
considered to be a normal strategy for many years.
Animal experimentation has existed since ancient times and contributed to human life and survival.
The most radical progress in the health science has all been made possible by animal research. Thus,
animal experimentation is recognized and accepted as an important tool in saving lives.
Humans have been benefited from the health care developments that have been based on the benefits
of animal research and testing for many years. According to Fox Michael Virtually every medical
innovation of the last century and especially last four decades has been based to a significant extent
upon the results of animal experimentation. Surgery on animals has assisted in developing organ
transplant and open heart surgery. Animal testing has also helped in developing vaccine against
disease like rabies, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, and TB. Development of antibiotics, HIV drugs,
Insulin, and cancer treatments depend up on animal tests. Other testing methods are not advanced
enough (Vaughn, 171). Laboratory animals can play an important

Imagery In Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
Truman Capote describes a town that I can easily picture, because he uses a lot detail and imagery in
his opening of In Cold Blood that allows me to envision a small town very similar to the town I live
in. Although our town isn t that well known it still receives some attention and our school system
wouldn t be described as Capote describes Holcomb s school. His structure and tone builds the town
as boring, empty, and alone. Until the end when he describes their school. A complete juxtaposition to
the rest of the town. Holcomb can be easily pictured as the boring, rundown town because of Capote s
use of imagery, structure, and tone. Simply an aimless congregation of buildings divided in the center

For the start Capote shows the area of Holcomb, how it stands on the high wheat plains of western
Kansas, constructing an aerial view of a place other Kansans call out there. Slowly bring us down into
the fields and countryside, as if you were in the beginning movie credits, watching as the layout of the
town is being set before you. Next he leads us to the railroad that cuts down the center of the inner
part of the city, branching off onto the highway and dirt streets. As he points out several buildings and
structures that have fallen from their previous glories and refurbished into other things. Showing us
some houses and introducing us to some of Holcomb s characters leading us to a few more places that
have also seen their better days. Putting us at his last stop, a juxtaposition to the rest of the town, the
Holcomb School, a good looking establishment. Capote drives us into Holcomb like this for a reason,
being that no matter how ordinary and uneventful this place seems so far, it will soon be more than

dropped out of school he went into politics, Seeger always had a thing for music and politics; he had a

colleagues liked hearing him play, they thought he was a great musician. Seeger learned a lot from his
dad. Seeger and Guthrie came from singing in the saloons, radio shows, political rallies, Guthrie wrote
thousands of songs. Seeger and Guthrie both had a lot in common; they both were musicians; and both
enjoyed playing music, rather it was playing with a banjo or writing music. Guthrie and Seeger
appeared at a few gatherings at an American piece mobilization March in Washington DC to protest
the nations drift toward war (Winkler 2011, 24 25). They were the only band who rehearsed on stage

The Creation Is A Monster
1. Look up the word monster in multiple dictionaries in order to get a full understanding of what the
word means. Discuss in both literal and figurative terms whether the Creation is a monster.
The word monster means a being of unnatural size with unnatural features that is sometimes
imaginary and often causes fear due to wickedness, ugliness, and cruelty. In literal terms, the Creation
is a monster. Based on the definition, he is of unnatural size and features as the Creation is
characterized by its gigantic stature, and the deformity of its aspect (50). Further, people fear the
Creation due to his deformity as stated the unnatural hideousness of [his] person was the chief object
of horror with those who had formerly beheld [him]) (94). In further explanation, the Creation can
also be considered monstrous because he was responsible for the death of many people such as
William, Justine, and Henry. In figurative terms, however, the Creation is not entirely a monster.
Though he did intend to cause harm as he declares war against humans (97), much of his spite a
cruelty spurs from his lack of maturity and the environments he was faced with. The Creation came
into the world and was immediately faced with rejection. His own creator turned from him in disgust
(93) and the villagers he grew to love struck [him] violently with a stick (97). He had no friend and no
one teach him that killing was wrong no matter how much emotions get the better of one. Much of this

  • 2. Dna Phenotyping Case Camou, Savannah Building a Face and a Case on DNA In his New York Times article Building a Face, and a Case, on DNAAndrew Pollack discusses recent advances in technology, and science, both connecting to DNA. Pollack explains DNA phenotyping, the process of predicting an organism s phenotype using only genetic information collected from genotyping or DNA sequencing, and how police and other law enforcement have been applying it to solve crimes. By using DNA phenotyping law enforcement can generate a face by a computer using only DNA found at the scene of a crime. Although DNA phenotyping can determined a suspect s eye and hair color accurately, it still has a ways to go to being able to fully generate a suspects face. Pollack states, DNA, ... Murphy herself writes the process as to how the portraits are made, Their software yields an image in a matter of minutes, rapidly drawing connections between genetic markers and points on the face. In less time than it takes to make a cup of coffee, a sketch emerges inferred solely from DNA. Even though the process itself is quick, the portrait resembles an avatar. Murphy s New York Time s science colleagues conducted a somewhat unscientific experiment, sending in samples of a two colleagues, having the system generate a portrait using only DNA, and finally identifying. The first image shown had a dozen people respond that they could not make out who the portrait was of due the images being too generic. • 3. Comparing The ICTY And The International Criminal Tribunal... At the end of the Cold War, a more widespread interest in post conflict reconstruction was becoming more prevalent. The main components of this interest during the post reconciliation period were accountability and reconciliation. To facilitate this in two different post conflict environments, two respective tribunals were established. These tribunals were known as the ICTY (The International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, est.1993) and ICTR (International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, est.1994) . The ICTY was formed to address the conflict in former Yugoslavia. The situation started when two of the six republics of Yugoslavia, Slovenia and Croatia, declared their independence after the fall of the Berlin Wall. This sparked a lengthy and lethal conflict within the territory. The atrocities that allegedly had been committed included but were not limited to, genocide, rape, and enslavement. Many of the victims were civilians. Because of this the ICTY was created during the war as an international criminal court that applied humanitarian law. It s purpose was to gather information, create an account of events, and prosecute those responsible for committing crimes . The ICTY is considered the first international court. Since it was the first of it s kind, the court was not without controversy. From the beginning, the method of establishing the tribunal was up for debate. The ICTY did not have the legal authority to establish itself. Some states wanted a treaty to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Albert Camus-the Outsider Probably no European writer of his time left so deep a mark on the imagination. Conor Cruise O Brien. First published in French as L Etranger in 1942, Albert Camus The Outsider addresses the constrictive nature of society and what happens when an individual tries to break free from the conformity forced upon him by staying true to himself, and following his own ideal of absolute truth and sincerity in every action. Propelled more by the philosophy of existentialism and the notion of the absurd than plot and characters, Camus novel raises many questions about life, and answers them in a final chilling climax. The plot of The Outsider revolves around a central act of unmeditated violence on a beach, proving that the darkest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Existentialism refers to the philosophy that questions life which exists in a hostile environment. Camus, along with his friend, fellow writer, and French Resistance leader Jean Paul Sartre pushed this train of thought into mainstream culture. In the extended essay The Myth of Sisyphus, Camus realises the only philosophical question worth asking is whether or not to commit suicide. The absurd nature of life referred to is the incompatibility of incomprehensible circumstances such as impending death, cruelty, violence, genocide and racism, and the overwhelming desire for, and expectation of a happy life and the principles of optimism. One primary example of the absurd given in the text is the co existence of the suffering and joy in life. This view of absurdity is shared with the existentialist Simone de Beauvoir who contends that the suffering in death is a scandal . The hostile environment, or constant, harsh circumstances are represented in the text by the oppressive heat of the sun which is ever present at the side of Meursault s consciousness. He feels it as he walks to his mother s funeral service through the French countryside; He feels it beating down on him when he s out swimming with a girl, Marie; he feels its uncomfortable, abrasive fire inescapably as he fires the bullets into the Arab s body. • 7. A Discussion Of Regression Results Discussion of Regression Results In order to empirically examine the extent to which changes in the price of chicken causes changes in broiler (chicken) consumption, time series data was collected on 40 observations extending from 1960 to 1999 on nine explanatory variables in total. I regressed this data using an Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) approach. The main explanatory variable used for my analysis was the consumer price index (CPI) for whole fresh chicken with the base years denoted as the 1982 to 1984 time period. The econometric model for my regression analysis is listed below: Broiler Consumption = a+β_(1 ) (CPI of broilers)+ β_2 (income)+ β_3 (population)+β_(4 ) (CPI for beef)+β_(5 ) (PPI for corn)+ β_(6 ) (NPI for broiler feed)+β_7 (CPI)+β_8 (AP of Broilers)+β_9 (population)+β_(10 ) (exports of beef, veal and pork)+ ε Data regarding my dependent variable was originally collected as pounds consumed per capita. However, I multiplied the per capita broiler consumption data by 100,000 to obtain broiler consumption in pounds per 100,000 people. In this way, I was able to obtain a larger coefficient on a few of the explanatory variables, which allowed for a more suitable display and discussion of the results in the paper. Further, the objective of this analysis was to explain to what extent price of broilers, represented as the consumer price index on whole fresh chicken, impacts broiler consumption in pounds. • 9. How I Learned From The Class Writings As I look back to when I first started taking this class I began to think about the things that I have learned. It had been quite a long time since I wrote anything other than basic notes or letters before I started taking the EN100 course. In fact, I have never been much of a writer even when writing about subjects I enjoy, so when the Justice was brought up as the main topic of the papers that we would be writing over the semester I was less then pleased. Now that my misgivings as a writer and my distain for the overall subject matter are out in the open, let s get back to the subject at hand. What have I learned in EN100 or more specifically, what have I learned from each of the papers I wrote on justice and from the in class writings? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another thing I learned from that first paper is that it is not acceptable to forsake the freedoms of some in order to better the majority. John Rawls, wrote in his book, A Theory of Justice that Each person possesses an inviolability founded on justice that even the welfare of society as a whole cannot override. For this reason justice denies that the loss of freedoms for some is made right by the greater good shared by others. So not only should justice be upheld for all people, regardless of their situation, but that these rights should not be overlooked in order to merely appease a majority. My second paper entitled Unjust American Justice showcased an article by Talia Jane called 5 ways America s Justice System Is Designed to Screw You. I learned from writing this paper is that someone cannot simply use facts that are based on a single persons experience if that person does not allow people to check their facts by withholding the name of their source. When writing one should always try to state facts, not opinion or bias experience. When reading any article ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Evolution Of Punishment And Its Effect On Society Introduction The evolution of punishment has come a long way in Canada from Confederation in the 1800 s to present day 21st century. Research has been going on continuously to identify whether these punishments are based on a person s behaviour or on society itself. The word punishment is referred to as a penalty inflicted on an offender through judicial procedure ( Punishment | Definition of Punishment by Merriam Webster ). In today s society does the punishment equivalent to the crime committed by an offender? Therefore, how much punishment should one receive based on their offence? It is a conflicting matter that has brought the government and the public into speculation on the judicial system from time to time. Punishment is a philosophy, which states many years back when someone was seen committing wrongdoings they were punished by cutting off their heads or hanging them. During the evolution it used to be an eye for an eye, if you killed me, I went after your family as revenge. The days have changed, where now they have introduced the Canadian Bill of laws, to help with the punishment of offenders. Now capital punishment is punishments that result in death penalties for people who have committed capital crimes, and offences. It is viewed around the world as something different. For example, in certain parts of the world people do not believe in punishment, whereby in some parts they do believe and take very extreme measures. In parts of the world such as India, ... After all, the United States is the poster child of a capitalistic society and even has that American dream. What people don t realize is that in 1933 a group of elite businessmen and some powerful companies tried to plot the staging of a coup with the help of a Marine Corps Major General by the name of Smedley Butler. This may have been plotted because of the financial situation the United States was in at the time, and was eventually brought to the attention of Congress during a hearing through his testimony. During this [time], [a now] retired Marine Corps General Smedley Darlington Butler was approached by two members of the American Legion: Bill Doyle, and Gerald C. MacGuire. This Legion operated under the guise of a veteran s rights society. The men, initially approached Butler to speak at a nearing meeting; they explained that they were hoping that Butler s speech would persuade the others members that they needed to remove the current management something that could be called conditioning or a sort of test. Even though Butler listened to what they had to say, he had refused on the grounds that he did not want to interfere. Coming up with a new plan the two men approached Butler again, this time discreetly offering him $100,000 in bank deposits. After Butler arrived, in the spectator gallery the Legionnaires were to leap to their feet demanding he speak. MacGuire then produced the prepared speech he wanted Butler to give. The speech given was suspicious sounding in nature, it was to convince the veterans, who were due a second bonus payment, that if they were not paid in money backed by gold, their bonuses would be compromised. Water is important for the sustainment of life, every organisms depends on some type of water source. Plants, animals, and insects can not survive absent of water wether it is a couple of days or a couple of months. Water is a special element of life because of its chemical bonds, the chemical formula for water is H2O, which means that water contains two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. • 14. The Impact Of Aircraft On The United Kingdom Of World War II Aircraft have always played an important role when taking us to places otherwise inaccessible. Whether it be an airliner with passengers or military carrier, air travel results in faster, more efficient completion of task. The way we navigate the skies can make or break the success of business or military operations. However, there are some dangers that exist. Being thousands of feet up in the sky leaves us prone to catastrophic failure of a component or detection and engagement from defensive air and ground forces. Safety is a must and as a result, advanced technologies, shaped and inspired by renowned conflicts and events, such as radar jamming systems , were developed in order to insure the safety of those on the ground and in the sky. At the dawn of World War II, the U.S. were in no way a threat to any other country, yet were serving partially as a provider for its European allies. Have been given freedom to do so by the Lend Lease bill, the U.S provided significant military supplies and other aids mostly to the United Kingdom and other allies involved in the war against Nazi Germany. It wasn t until December 7, 1941 when America joined the war after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Poe turned to alcohol to cope with her illness and the stress of his dying wife. Two years later, Virginia died of tuberculosis, and Poe s own death would follow shortly two years after that. The Raven, published in 1845, brought Poe temporary popular and critical acclaim. The Raven was a personal challenge Edgar imposed upon himself. Even some individuals who went through something and chose to write about it still change certain aspects about it. David actually took his journals that he wrote and formed that into the book. It is great because the wording and emotions that are brought while reading the book were some of what David was actually feeling that day when he reflected on what happened and chose to write about it. In addition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What was learned in the classroom that day, brought some great points that can be beneficial in real life. For example, when looking at the correctional officers who are power crazy, that is something that is good to have knowledge of. In addition, even if my career does not end up in a jail, you can see these characteristics in individuals in just about any workplace. The only difference is it is probably not to the same extent. Another lesson that can be benefiting is the fact that when working with this specific population problems can arise when they are released. This is something important to consider when entering the field. For example, David said that he played a positive role with the inmates for the most part although he still is hesitant for the individuals he helped. This brought the idea that what about if the individual does not have a positive role with the inmates and they are released. What are the concerns with seeing these individuals out in public? David summed it up very well about acknowledging them if they acknowledge you, but it is important not to bring attention to it due to the fact that some individuals do not want others to acknowledge their past. Furthermore, a great component that was learned was the fact that David touched on self care. In this field work it can be very easy to take the stress from the inmate s home with you. Some are just given a bad hand at life and did not deserve the abuse they encountered. David said that he would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Midsummer Night Dream Analysis A Midsummer s Night Dream William Shakespeare is a successful playwright as he uses the style of history, tragedy and comedy which is an entertaining aspect that is in all his plays. One of his plays, A midsummer s night dream , includes the themes of love and magic, where love is represented as a force that makes people act in irrational ways to entertain the audience in a comical and dramatic way. He used different techniques throughout the play to create a tumultuous and intriguing factor. The storyline of the play follows various couples such as Hermia and Lysander and Oberon and Titania. These couples show examples of irrational behaviours with love and magic throughout the play. Hermia and Lysander behave irrationally throughout the whole play because they re head over heels for each other; however, their love is oppressed by both her father Egeus and the strict Athenian law. In Act 1, Scene 1 when Egeus is at court with Hermia he uses a demanding and dominating tone to state, as she is mine i may dispose of her This causes them to act spontaneously and irrationally and as a consequence, they run away from Athens to get married. This entertains the audience by adding more conflict and complication to the story. After they elope to the forest, magic becomes the force that turns love to a dramatic and conflict filled experience that is also entertaining. Lysander acts in irrational ways when he is put under the spell of Love in Idleness where he states how madly he loves on Helena, and how much he hates Hermia. Hang off, thou cat, thou burr! Vile thing, let loose, / or I will shake thee from me like a serpent. Derogatory language and repetition is used to emphasise his hate toward Hermia and orders her to leave him alone. For example, in Act 3, Scene 2, Lysander has fallen in love with Helena and tells Hermia how he hates her. Out, loathed medicine! O hated potion, hence! Conflict between characters create comedy in the play which entertains the audience because of the dramatic irony. Lysander s insults in the statement are repetition as it is the same meaning but in different words. This language technique emphasises that Lysander wants Hermia to leave him alone. Oberon and Titania are the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Perverse Feminine Masochism Perverse feminine masochism From the case study of Mary, we propose the notion of perverse feminine masochism as antinomic with erotic feminine masochism, the latter being based on the change of desired object. The desire to be penetrated by the father, then by the lover, supports the investment of penetration as a promised opening. Thus, whereas erotic feminine masochism relies on the primary erogenous masochism, constitutes a basis of the first narcissistic foundations and counterinvests moral masochism, for some people, the encounter with the sexual might be contrastingly traumatizing and reactive pregenital anxieties of intrusion that may be compared with a revivification of incest (Schaeffer, 2002). Prisoners of war were captured everywhere during WWII. POW camps had better treatment and were better than than other concentration camps. The conditions of the camps varied from one to another, but from Stalags and Concentration camps, they were close to the same. A large portion of deaths in POW camps were from lack of food (Uhl 1). The recommended daily minimum was a 2,000 calorie diet (Rees 5).However this was impossible to do with the shortage of food. (Rees 5). Some of the food was potatoes and moldy bread (Uhl 1) which was part sawdust (Uhl 1). Many only got 5 grams of bread (Solzhenitsyn 25). Millions of people were surely to die (Jones 11). • 27. Importance and Relevance of Cultural Stories Cultural Stories Cultural narratives reveal aspects of their indigenous culture while at the same time reflecting universal truths. This paper examines three stories that are germane to their native culture while also dealing with the universal theme of individuation, the process by which one becomes aware of oneself, distinct from other people. Each of the stories were written by authors from different cultures: Hansel and Gretel was written by The Brother s Grimm in Germany, The Wolf and The Lamb is an Aesop s Fable from Greece, and The Jungle Book is a set of stories written by Rudyard Kipling in England. Although The Wolf and The Lamb and The Jungle Book each feature animal characters, they are anthropomorphized to the extent that they still incorporate the individuation process as a prominent trope. In each of the stories, the main character undertakes the journey from innocence to experience and must learn how to assert and defend himself in the face of danger and adversity. Although Hansel and Gretel features two (eponymous) main characters rather than one, the story still addresses the need for children to undertake the process of individuation and fend for themselves rather than relying on one s elders. At the beginning of the story, Hansel and Gretel are na 誰ve; they rely on their parents, neither of whom can adequately care for them (they are cold and underfed), yet the two children are also unable to adequately care for themselves. It contains a mixture of very important compounds that give it therapeutic and nutritional properties. These compounds as protein, glucose, lipid, vitamins, minerals, aspartic acid, gelatin, sterols, phosphorous compounds, acetylcholine, nucleic acids, and numerous trace ingredients. The ingredients are in the form of water, crude protein and monosaccharides. The remainder of the royal jelly is composed of an ether soluble fraction of fatty acid (Galaly et al., 2014). Royal jelly is a viscous jelly substance which is partially soluble in water with a density of 1.1 g/ ml. Its colour is whitish to yellow, the yellow color increases upon storage. Its odor is pungent, the taste being sour and sweet. Old RJ, which stored for long time tends to be darker and possess a rancid taste. For optimum quality, RJ should be stored in frozen state. According to water content, the viscosity of RJ varies and it slowly becomes more viscous when stored at room temperature or in a refrigerator at 5ºC. The viscosity of RJ increases with increment of water insoluble nitrogenous compounds and a reduction in soluble nitrogen and free amino acids (Ramadan and Al Ghamdi, 2012).
