Maus and Persepolis
Persepolis and Maus: Two Survivors and Their Stories.
Of the many items that help enhance the horror of the Nazi Holocaust, one of the most notable is what
it had of systematic and bureaucratic. Not only killing people, which would have had already been
enough, but precisely being made in a quiet and civilized way. It is not strange the image of the Nazi
leader quoting his favorite poet while sending to death hundreds of people, belying the myth that
culture and education make people better. The Holocaust was primarily an act performed with such
rationality that could only become insane. It almost seems that it could have been avoided by
appealing to the same reason as well served to run it.
As indicated by the subtitle, Maus is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A clinical case , drawn by Art Spiegelman to tell the events following the suicide of his mother,
included in Maus and read and discussed by the characters. Basically there are two different Art
Spiegelman: comics professional cartoonist who knows his business, and the suffering child, mourn

It is difficult to imagine Maus in another format than this one, in another medium than comics, which
allows resources such as those shown here. How to get in any other narrative form that delicate
balance between detachment and involvement? Maus is a fascinating exploration of a tragedy, the
story of survival with all that that means for those who did not survive, chronic small acts of kindness
that are saving lives, whose cruelties record coldness still shakes us. It is a comic book masterpiece.

Thomas Gordon, Ph.D., is known for being one of the most influential innovators in teaching
communication and conflict management skills to parents, teachers, students, leaders, and others. He
received his BA from DePauw University and his MA from Ohio State University. In 1942 he joined
the Army Air Force where he discovered how control based discipline and instruction causes stress

Dreams and Déjá Vu Essay
You walk into the house of a new friend. As you scope it out, you realize something a bit strange...
You ve been there before. But not exactly in person. You think about it a little bit, and you then realize
that it was in a dream, a dream that perfectly portrayed with every small detail the exact room you re
now standing in. Sound familiar? This is an experience that is not as rare as most people think. For
many, these arbitrary feelings of extreme familiarity, known as déjà vu, come through dreams that
some say predict the future. The things that dreams show may not be something at all significant, just
a random moment proposed to happen somewhere in the near or far future. There have also been
accounts where the dreamer claims they saw a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Funkhouser)
The idea of dreams telling the future is still hard to accept for some, but to others it is completely
undeniable. Recent surveys have shown that déjà vu is encountered more often than any of the other
so called mystical or paranormal experiences that have been studied (Funkhouser). Happenings such
as these have only been talked about recently not because they haven t been around for long, but
because society is finally starting to accept the idea that precognition can really exist. In a review of
precognition in 1997, Barbara Brennan came to the conclusion that it appears that there are really far
more instances of precognition than is commonly realized. So many, in fact, that the phenomenon may
be almost universal. The reason we are largely unaware of this is that most precognition occurs in
dreams (Funkhouser). It is not something that just happens to a select few, it is something that has
occurred within all age groups, races and genders for centuries. There have been plenty of almost eerie
accounts of dreams suggesting the future. One instance

Training Conference For My Assessment
Self Assessment 4
I ve recently been doing training for work and used the training conference for my assessment. During
the training session, it was very apparent when the trainer answered a question in an irrelevant manner
and although she spoke in an upbeat manner, her responses could sometimes sound impersonal and
ambiguous. Since she spoke in the same friendly tone throughout, it was very hard to read her actual
feelings during it. I found that when I needed to ask a question, I would wait and see if someone else
had the same question first and depending on how she was answering things, I typically did not bother.
Once I could tell her true emotions on certain subjects by the different cues and responses that she
gave, I began to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Drug Testing Benefits
Over 27.1 million people in the U.S. were reported in drug use. An eighth of them people either got
injured or passed away. This is the reason we drug test at jobs. It helps keep the dangers away from
people and businesses. Our society as a whole will improve by being a lot safer. There will be less
shootings and catastrophes due to drugs. That s the purpose of drug testing at jobs.
At work workers always have to be doing their job the correct way. For the employer they have to
have reliable workers. Many companies test job applicants for illegal drug use as part of the
employment hiring process. (Doyle) .Doing a yearly drug test to see who isn t doing their job correct

Drug testing at jobs are also helping to lower that rate. There are more and more jobs everyday that
require drugs tests which means it will continue to lower. There is a 500% increase on incarceration s
due to drugs. (Politicalfact). People will either keep doing drugs and go to jail, or stop doing them and
go on the right way in life. The purpose of the drug test is to get people to stop doing them so
everyone can be safer and more productive.
Snyder 1
There is at least a casualty a day caused by drugs. More Americans died from drug overdose in 2016
then died in the entirety of the Vietnam War. (Lopez). Innocent people die from them that are just
bystanders. This has to stop and drug tests are helping. A safer environment is the main reason
businesses started doing this. People should not have to give a life because of someone else s actions.
People at work are protected by the test as well. The employer saves money as well because no
equipment is destroyed and no lives will be taken.
Drug testing is for the better than the worse. The people who think otherwise need to be tested. It
protects people, weather its the user people at work ,or the innocent bystander keeping people off
drugs will help build and protect this country. It s also helping build a new generation drug free, and
that is the goal for drug

A Comparing Theme Of Frankenstein And Northanger Abbey
Theme of Frankenstein and Northanger Abbey
Have you ever thought that Frankenstein and Northanger Abbey can have the same theme? They
might be two different stories but, still be connected somehow. Frankenstein Victor Frankenstein took
his love of books to the fullest. After going to college, he took his learning to make a monster.
Northanger Abbey Catherine Morland was a teenager that did not have a lot of friends but she loves to
read Gothic novels. These stories has the same similarities but still has a different understanding over
the story. They both lost their best friends. They also has family that only connects with them only
sometimes.
Victor had a friend named Henry. After a friendless monster killed him, Victor, then became friendless
too. I saw the lifeless form of Henry Clerval stretched before me. (Shelly 223) The monster killed
Henry because Victor promises to make the monster a partner. At the last moment, Victor decided to
not finish the partner. Then Victor destroys the partner and the monster gets really mad. After you read
that part of the story you should always keep in mind to always keep your promise. If you don t
something bad might happen. Henry was the only main friend to take care of Victor when he got sick.
He was his family when his main family was absent. The next paragraph is going to connect with
Catherine losing her friend Isabella but, it is not as painful as Victor. Catherine had a best friend

Hamline University Case Study
There are many options when it comes to choosing a college after high school, Yes it can be hard and
confusing, but if we are well informed, it could be a piece of cake! I have visited and gathered
information about Hamline university and century college this year.
Hamline university is a good school. Hamline is a private school which its campus would be
considered small. Having a small campus is a good idea if you want to be seen as an individual and
not just a number. Continuing on to that, the cost of Hamline is a bit expensive but, comparing it to
other schools like the University of Minnesota it s a bit cheaper. Hamline would be a good choice for
someone who wants a private school with a small campus and medium cost range.

Growing Up Digital By John Seely Brown
Along with the advancement of technology and increasing access to the Internet, distance learning ,
especially web based learning has gained popularity and reached an unprecedented level in terms of
the number of students enrolled in a single course. These online courses, MOOC (Massive Open
Online Course) , threaten to overthrow the traditional mode of teaching and learning by offering free
and accessible higher level education to the general public regardless of the students background or
financial circumstances. However, MOOC has accumulated criticisms questioning its ability to deliver
quality education that can be compared to its counterpart in classrooms. In Growing Up Digital , John
Seely Brown offers many ways to examine the effectiveness of MOOC in relation to its comparability
to the traditional teaching in classrooms, and evaluate the possibility of replacing traditional teaching
with full online courses.
Today s kids are always multiprocessing and often using multiple digital devices in lectures. Studies
have shown that digital technologies were creating an easily distracted generation with short attention
spans . Although their short attention spans parallel that of top managers , this often causes students to
miss instructions by the speaker . With the lack of attention paid to the speaker, students would not
gain a deep and thorough understanding of the lectures, much less gaining necessary knowledge and
skills needed to be in a top manager s

Physical Representation Of Major Tasks That Will Require A...
Time Line This program will require a 24 month time frame. The Gantt Chart below is a visual
representation of major tasks that will need to be completed in order to make this program from
conception to reality. The first 10 months of the program are a part of the planning phase. During this
phase, the staff for the Evidence Based Practice Department will be hired. They will study the hospital
s existing protocols in attempts to identify weak points. Once the weak points are identified, they will
research the best evidence based practices that will replace those weak points and create new
protocols. After the creation of the new protocols, they will teach the new protocols to all the medical
staff. Month 10 to 22 is the implementation phase. During this phase, the changes to the protocols are
allowed to take effect and hopefully reduce the Healthcare Associated Infections at CMC. The last 3
months of the program is the Evaluation Phase. All of the data that was collected will be reviewed and
the program will be evaluated. (See Figure 1). Figure 1. Evaluation Plan The evaluation of this
program will occur throughout entirety of the program. Evaluation cannot just occur at the termination
of the program. If evaluation only occurs at the end, we would only be able to determine if the
program was overall a success or a failure but it would be difficult to correlate why it was a success or
failure. When we continuously evaluate the program, we can use that data to

Essay on Teaching No, but Saying Yes
Teaching No, but Saying Yes America has the highest number of teen pregnancies with 750,000
teenage girls becoming pregnant each year and HIV, Human Immunodeficiency Virus, a leading cause
of death in young people, infects America s youth everyday (Sun). The lives of ordinary young men
and women are abruptly interrupted when they learn they will soon be parents or must now live with
an incurable disease. With this information in mind, American public schools need to be teaching
middle school and high schools students the importance of safe sex. Many programs focus on the idea
of abstinence, refraining from sexual activity until marriage, but these programs seem to have little to
no effect on our youth. By age 19, most college students ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Schoolchildren do not know that by having oral sex, you can still contract STDs. How can parents and
teachers expect them to know when the health teachers just explain abstinence is the key? Is talking
about sex a bad thing? In society today it seems that people are afraid to speak about teenage sexual
behavior because it is something teens are expected not to do. As if just telling teens to not have sex
will just solve it all. But teenagers rarely do as they are told. Some researches would make you believe
handing out condoms and enlightening teens on sex in like giving a pass to be promiscuous, but in all
honesty this is not the message advocates and educators are sending. Telling teens about what
happens, the emotional aftermath, and the risks involved with sex will cause them to think about it
more and be more open to talking to their parents or guardians. Many of America s young people are
afraid to speak to their parents about sex because they feel embarrassed or feel like their parents will
lock them away to be sure they abstain from sex, but talking about sex with people who have been
through what teens are going through will help. New reality television shows are depicting life as a
teenage mom or what it is like to live with HIV/AIDS. A show called, Teen Mom, a spin off of its
original, 16 and Pregnant, follows the lives of teenage mothers trying to raise their babies while still
attending school, dating, and

Immanuel Kant And The Ford Pinto Case
Immanuel Kant and The Ford Pinto Case Immanuel Kant¶s theory on morals states that ³nothing can
possibly be conceived in the world, or even out of it, which can be called good, without qualification,
except a good will.´

Kant points to other human qualities such as courage, intelligence, wit and others that are
³undoubtedly good and desirable,´

for an action to be considered moral, it should first remove the ³what it performs or effects´

The fire and explosion risk that could occur even during low speed rear end impact was reported,
however, Ford made the decision to continue with the original design. It seemsFord officials made
their decision to continue with the original design of the Pinto firstly, due to the spedup production
schedule and any changes would mean retooling of the production line, which would addanother year
to the schedule. Secondly, they conducted a cost benefit analysis where they calculated thevalue of
human life at $200, 000, a serious burn injury at $67, 000 and estimated deaths of 180 people
andserious burns to 180 people. They determined that the reworked gas tank on the Pinto would cost
$137million while possible liability cost could work out to be $49 million. Ford decided it would be
more profitable to produce the Pinto with the defect rather than correct the flaw. The results was
numerous preventable deaths, serious fire related injuries or damages and ³approximately fifty
lawsuits were brought against Ford in connection with the rear end accidents in the Pinto,´
8
Ford was even chargedwith a criminal homicide in the case of three teenagers burning to death when
their Pinto was rear endedand the gas tank burst into flames. In applying Kant¶s ethics to the Ford
Pinto case, we would begin by examining the ³good will´ inFord¶s decision. Ford was greatly
motivated as ³imports were eating up more and more of the subcompactauto market,´

How To Break A Dragged Skin
Brushes of various sorts are excellent on bare skin, especially when the submissive is blindfolded. For
example, a soft brush such as a shaving or makeup brush can be alternated with a stiff brush such as a
toothbrush on breasts, nipples, thighs, sides, and so on. An electric toothbrush makes a wonderful sex
toy when used on a clitoris... A bamboo skewer of the type used in the kitchen is quite an interesting
sensation toy when it s used on a bound and blindfolded person. Dragged slowly and with moderate
pressure over the skin, it feels much sharper than it is; used on sensitive areas like nipples and breasts,

Difference Between Absolute And Relative Continuity
1. Describe the difference between absolute and relative continuity. Explain why it is important to
differentiate the two. Provide two of YOUR OWN real world examples of the difference between the
two types of continuity. The concept of continuity is difficult and includes several different meanings
that are distinguished mostly by different ways of measuring continuity. There are two that need to be
specifically differentiated: relative and absolute continuity. Relative continuity is the degree to which
individuals hold their rank order in a specific sample from one assessment time point to another
specific time point. Relative continuity is measured by the correlation coefficient for the scores taken

An example of maturation would be acquiring a language, because language acquisition is something
that happens to an individual innately during a certain time in development, it is not something an
individual can do or learn. Environmental learning refers to developmental change that is brought
about mainly by influences in the external environment and that can be described by mechanisms of
learning. An example of environmental learning would be a child who see s their older sibling get into
trouble for having dessert before completing dinner, will first finish their dinner and then eat their
dessert. Constructivism can be defined as the belief that the mind actively participates in gathering
knowledge of the world while interacting with the environment, rather than passively gaining such
knowledge through direct perception. Constructivism states that children act as active participants in
their own development and help establish their own fate by virtue of the meanings they impose on the
world. An example of constructivism would be a person attending zumba classes at the gym. While
attending zumba classes at the gym, the person is actively participating in and learning how to do

Compare and Contrast the Views of Native Americans and...
During the 16th and 17th centuries, when the Europeans started to come over to the new world, they
discovered a society of Indians that was strikingly different to their own. To understand how different,
one must first compare and contrast some of the very important differences between them, such as
how the Europeans considered the Indians to be extremely primitive and basic, while, considering
themselves civilized. The Europeans considered that they were model societies, and they thought that
the Indians society and culture should be changed to be very similar to their own. The Europeans and
the Indians had very contrasting ideas of personal wealth and ownership. The Europeans believed that

This was a very sharp contrast to the Europeans, whom had for centuries, been the top of their social
hierarchy. In Europe, the women had a very relatively primitive, limited role in society. They were not
allowed to attend or partake in political affairs, with very few exceptions. Now, on the other hand, in
Indian society there was a council of chiefs, whom was all male, but they were appointed by an elder
women. Also, during their deliberation over issues, the males made the final decision, but would be
expelled from the council, if they didn t conclude to the same decision that the elder woman came to.
The women s main job in Indian society, was being in charge of cultivation of, harvest of, and
distribution of food. When the men left to go hunting, women were left to run society. The Europeans
simply believed that the males were far superior to the family, which is why women could not have
jobs, and were left to only clean, cook, and various other household chores. Coming from an
economic standpoint, the Europeans and Indians were such total opposites, it often led to
misunderstanding. Indians had very large trading routes well before the time of European
colonization. Their experience in trade only made it easier to exchange goods with the Europeans. For
Indians, trading was a way to acquire goods they wanted, but also a way to share the wealth of their
land with other tribes that didn t have the same items to trade as they did. To the

organization named International Labor Organization (ILO), has created a project to take action
against child labor. The project is named International Program on the Elimination of Child Labor

would in turn make people more shy to answer, but after a few individuals would give answers, other
would bring it back to them and answer the question fully. Also, when you addressed an individual by

positively affect quality of data gathering.
What We Would Do Differently
If we could do this focus group again, we would try and include a larger collection of participants.
This improvement would allow us to hear more insights, and give our group a wider variety of
responses. A smaller sized group may be more personal, but doesn t offer as much depth as a slightly
larger size.
Additionally, something that would help is finding ways to get people to participate more during the
focus group. Not everyone will have as much experience as the next person, but it s still important to
hear their thoughts and opinions. The more that people participate, the better our findings will

Essay on Social Theorists
Classical Social Theorists
When trying to compare three social theorists to each other, you must first try to understand the
intricacies that are entangled within each theory itself. Theorists, by nature, create theories that can be
debated from all angles but must be a tight fit in order to be considered applicable to society. Theology
as a single entity is constructed from deep intellectual thought. When social theorist begin to develop
there theoretical perspectives, they seem to have an overwhelming grasp on the concepts they try to
convey to us. Since it is extremely difficult to have such a complete strong hold on social issues such
as family, politics and economics, it is important to know and understand the basic principles that ...

He said that competition forces people to establish ties with one another in a web of affiliation, and in
groups, conflict increases the degree of social solidarity within each group and at the same time,
decreases the level of tolerance for deviance.
Aside from seeing conflict as a social form, Simmel also saw money as a social form. Simmel s
Philosophy of Money is a stab at exposing how the forms of interaction affect the basic nature of
social relations independently of their specific content.
Simmel s major contribution to sociology resides in his concern with the basic forms of interaction.
Unlike Mead and Pareto, Simmel is hard to follow because he jumps from topic to topic, from the
micro to the macro and from the historical past to contemporary situations in his time. But in the end,
his goal is similar to all other theorists: to explain many empirical events with a few highly abstract
models and principles. (Turner P. 287)
Although he rejected many of the points of positivist doctrines, Vilfredo Pareto was somewhat of a
positivist whose major contribution to sociology was his Circulation of Elites conspiracy theory
documented in The Rise and Fall of the Elites. Also known as the Father of Mathematics, Pareto
thought that economics limited itself to a single aspect of human action and therefore, devoted his
studies to social theory. Pareto also thought that human affairs were largely guided by non logical, non
traditional actions,

Causes And Solutions Of Food Insecurity
INTRODUCTION
This report will explore the impacts, causes and solutions of food insecurity and other contextual
factors relating to Chad s economic and financial crisis.
STATEMENT OF FINDINGS
Food security exists when everyone in the population has access to enough nutritious food to live an
active and health life. In Chad there is no food security, because not everyone has enough food to eat.
In fact, according to World Food Program 25 34.9% of Chad is undernourished.
Chad is Africa s 5th largest nation, known for its sacred Chad Lake. It has seven neighbouring
countries whom are Sudan, Niger, Libya, Central African Republic, Cameroon, Nigeria and Darfur.
Altogether they are all resided in North East Africa.
Currently, Chad has 14 million populations and 14.28 deaths occur in every 1000 people. Sadly, Chad
has the 6th highest death rate in the world. The life expectancy for females is only 52.7 years and the
male life expectancy is 50.8 years. In comparison to Germany, Chad s longevity statistics has a
tremendous differ in the life expectancy, incomes and health care by at least 48%.
At the moment, Chad s citizens have a low income, a loss of education and an alarming lack of health
care. According to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), only 40.2% of the population can read and
write. In addition, not only do Chad lack education, but only 87.9% have access to sanitation facilities
and there is only 36% school enrolment within the country. Some major contextual

Examples Of Pathos By Cesar Chavez
I have found that words that are loaded with pathos and create a seductive euphoric are apt to promote
nonsense (Gunter Grass). Cesar Chavez proves that ethos and pathos can actually be very effective in
promoting their case. In an article he wrote, Chavez used the rhetorical strategies of ethos and pathos
to make his case and express his opinion about violence and nonviolence. Both of these strategies
proved to be very effective throughout his entire article.
Chavez s main rhetorical strategy was pathos. Pathos led to how the story impacted the reader s
beliefs; pathos is used to affect the feeling of the reader. It is effective because it allows the reader to
connect with what is being said. Chavez uses the pathos argument to show American s feelings, the
American people and people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethos is also effective because it tells the reader what the right thing to do is. Most people will do their
best to follow in the pathway that is considered the right way. Chavez states, the burdens of
generations of poverty and powerlessness lie heavily in the fields of America. If we fail, there are
those who will see violence as the shortcut to change (Chavez). This is ethos because it is saying we
are who have to protect people from violence and if we fail, then it is our own fault. This is hitting a
reader s moral side to do the right thing, or believe the right thing. This is effective because it works
alongside the pathos being used. The pathos grabs the reader s attention then the ethos takes that
attention and tells you what to do and how. This is effective because if the writer has their readers
attention by use of ethos and pathos and can get them to take the blame, they will be more likely to
follow what is being said in order to redeem themselves. This way of blaming the reader is especially
effective because people naturally do not like taking the blame and will take paths that allow them to
escape this

was not emotionally available. This is shown by his relationship with Angelica.

Dupot Pipeline Tragedy
The horrible tragedy at the DuPont Chemical Plant in La Porte, Texas, which ended in four innocent
people losing their lives, began roughly 5 days prior to the accident. It was November 10, 2014, when
a reactor in the plants Lannate unit, an insecticide DuPont produces for many agricultural purposes,
went down for an unscheduled maintenance. Lannate is produced by reacting toxic methyl mercaptan
with other chemicals. Two days later on November 12th, after all the up keep was taken care of on the
reactor, they tried to start it up again. They were unsuccessful in starting up the reactor, and further
investigation revealed a slurry blocking any passage through the pipelines which lead to the reactor.
However, slurries were a very common thing during shutdowns. They form when methyl mercaptan
reacts with other stagnate chemicals in the pipeline, forming a blockage. To clear this slurry, operators
began pumping hot water through the piping to try and break it up. By noon on November 13th,
operators deemed they had cleared the slurry. During the hot water pumping, a valve was accidentally
left opened, which allowed roughly 2,000 pounds of water to flow into the methyl mercaptan feedline
and storage tank. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the piping. However, when they began this process, they closed a valve that would have allowed
methyl mercaptan to flow from the storage tank and into the shutdown reactor unit. Due to this valve
being closed, the methyl mercaptan that was being pumped from the storage tank to try and help clear
the blockage had only one place to go, and that was into the vent header

One of the most influential centuries during human history is the nineteenth century. During this
century the world, especially Europe, experienced radical change change that revolutionized the

nationalism. The major development of the nineteenth century was the Industrial Revolution. Every

Along with this modern era came harsh realizations of few or no jobs, ruthless working environments,
unsanitary living conditions, polluted homes, unfair distribution of wealth, and false hopes these were
very hard times. In Charles Dickens classic novel Hard Times, Dickens paints for the reader a picture
of urbanization in the nineteenth century, Coketown lay shrouded in a haze of its own, which appeared
impervious to the sun s rays. You only knew the town was there because you knew there could have
been no such sulky blotch upon the prospect without a town. A blur of soot and smoke, now
confusedly tending this way, now that way, now aspiring to the vault of Heaven, now murkily
creeping along the earth, as the wind rose and fell, or changed its quarter: a dense formless jumble,
with sheets of cross light in it, that showed nothing but masses of darkness—Coketown in the distance
was suggestive of itself, though not a brick of it could be seen. Dickens shows that the murky smoke
stacked city is a place of depression and at the heart of it all is industry.
As the Industrial Revolution began to grow, the conditions worsened. It seemed that the lower class
kept working harder and harder, while the aristocrats, business

owners, and middle class got richer and richer. Dickens points this out in his book Hard Times in a
conversation between an employer (Bounderby) and an employee (Stephen Blackpool), Look how we

Spy Agencies In The Cold War
The Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union was starting to lead towards nuclear
war. President Eisenhower started to become fearful of these types of events and looked towards using
agencies to uncover the secrets of the Soviets. The Central Intelligence Agency or CIA was formed in
the United States, and the Komitet Gosudarstvennoi Bezopanosti (Committee for State Security) or
KGB was formed in the USSR. Both of the agencies conducted covert operations and were able to
infiltrate enemy governments to uncover any information that was needed. These spy agencies acted
as distractions for the war by fighting in an arms race more than looking for any reason to declare war.
Before the World War II era, Franklin D. Roosevelt appointed William J. Donovan a New York
Lawyer to be the Coordinator of Information, and after the war began, he became the head of the
Office of Strategic Services (OSS). The OSS was created to analyze strategic information that could
be used during the war. This agency did not last long; it was abolished after the end of WWII.

Quotes For Flowers For Algernon
Intelligence or Long Life Today evolution of human intelligence has advanced us to the stage where
most of us are too smart to invent new gods but are reluctant to give up the old ones (Ruth Hurmence
Green). Flowers for Algernon is about a man named Charlie Gordon, he is 37, and has a low IQ of 68.
He will go through an operation that has never been done before. It is supposed to generate Charlie to
three times smarter. A while after he had undergone the operation his mind starts to deteriorate. He
was able to predict that his mind will deteriorate like Algernon s due to a series of experiments he did.
Charlie is better off doing this experiment. Charlie is better of going through the experiment be
because he can now see things clearly for the first time, he has the chance to experience what it is like
to be smart, and he knows how he truly feels. Initially, Charlie was not aware of what was going on
around him. He thought that everyone liked him and was his friend. He also was not very intelligent,
which is why he was oblivious to what was happening around him. After Charlie had the surgery he
was able to now notice that the people he worked with at the factory were not actually his friends. He
found out April 20, I never knew that Joe and Frank and the others liked to have me around all the
time to make fun of me (33 34). Now that he got the procedure he can now tell that his so called
friends, just liked him because they could make fun of him. Another example of him noticing things
for the first time is when the doctors were arguing Charlie felt that he know saw them for the first
time. He realizes about their personal life, how one has a wife that wants him to be successful and the
other wants some of the glory to. Once again, due to his intelligence, he notices more about the people
he interacts with almost every day. He noticed things that he has never realized, let alone thought
about. Additionally, Charlie now has a chance to be smart. This operation allows Charlie s IQ to triple.
Since Mrs.Kinnian suggested Charlie he got a chance to experience true intelligence, and love. After
the operation, he was able to comprehend more than the doctors, who were before smarter than him.

Factors Affecting Pacific Oysters
Introduction
Pacific Oyster Mortality Syndrome (POMS) is a disease which affects Pacific Oysters and it is caused
by a virus called OsHV 1 micro variant. It has been present in three estuary systems in NSW Georges
River, Parramatta River and the Hawkesbury River. A suspect case has also recently been detected in
involvement with mortalities of farmed Pacific Oysters in Tasmania. The first reported POMS
mortality outbreak in Australia was recorded in NSW in 2010. POMS affects Pacific Oysters only,
with no other oyster species at risk. This virus cannot be transmitted to humans and there are no
human health insinuations. Since the first detection of POMS in NSW, movement restrictions have
been in place on oysters and oyster products to reduce the risk of spread to other areas. It is not known
how the virus disease reached Australia. It is believed that this disease can be transported via boats,

This outbreak has cost the Tasmania agriculturalists a great deal of money as in enables them to
market their business, sell and export their product. However, tests on stored frozen oysters indicated
that the virus has been present in Tasmania since at least mid December 2015. Others question its
arrival so soon after the annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, long feared as a possible source of the
deadly virus. It has also been found in wild Pacific oysters growing in the Derwent estuary at a
location where Sydney to Hobart yachts were anchored. (Subscribe to the advertiser, no

Examples Of Antigone In Dante s Inferno
In the Inferno, Dante sets up the structure of Hell which is shown as nine circles of anguish. Hell is a
place of punishment for those who intentionally chose the sinful way of life, where Heaven is a place
of recompense for those who purposefully chose the virtuous way. Before entering the first circle of
Hell, where people have committed a specific sin, there must be a place for those who neither chose a
side of righteousness or wickedness. Dante created a vestibule of Hell, a circle of Hell that precedes
the first circle of Hell, Limbo. The vestibule is home to those who were uncommitted in life, the
people who never made a decision for themselves. Having not made a decision in life, these souls do
not belong is neither Heaven nor Hell. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The city of suffering, eternal pain, and those that are lost. The fourth line of the inscription, Justice
inspired my exalted Creator. , creates an impression that God constructed Hell for justice, not only to
see the sins of those punished, but also to rewarded those who were moral.
Dante, however, established that this hell is a creation not of the devil but of the Trinity. This is shown
where the inscription mentions I am a creature of the Holiest Power, of Wisdom in the Highest and of
Primal Love , where it represents God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit. Hell is of God s making, not an
independent city of rebels, but is dependent of those who rebelled against their maker. Although hell is
a place of eternal suffering, it is also a place that serves justice. The basic meaning of the sign is that
of those sinners who did not repent their sins.
Another instance of God s rule is shown with Charon, the one who ferries the souls of the deceased
across the River Acheron. Charon refuses to take Dante on to the boat since he is living. Virgil
declares that Dante s presence is of God s approval, resulting in Charon s change in decision. Charon
accepted that it was God s desire for Dante to continue, hence Charon took orders from God, not

The World Of The Planet Essay
Gondarks
The Gondark are a cruel and hostile race of insect like creatures that dedicate most of their time and
energy to becoming the greatest of every race in the galaxy. These creatures are extremely intelligent
and technologically advanced. The home of the Gondark is a planet by the name of Amerath. It is the
only planet in the galaxy with a blood moon rotating around its gravitational fields. The planet is
covered in dark garnet red sand and is very desolate with little to no light. The lack of light on the
planet contributes to the Gondarkians physical features, as well as their devotion to knowledge. They
also have very uncommon cultural customs with unique mating rituals. When it comes down to their
political beliefs they are very strict and believe in the respect of the high counsel. The high council is
made up of a group of the most intelligent and physically fit members of the race. The entire planet
follows their orders and rules with no questions asked. No member or visitor is to go against the
council. From the biology to cultural aspects all the way down to the political perspective the
Gondarks prove their supremacy. When it comes down to their biology it can best be summarized as
very unusual, at least by human standards.

years apart, The Awakening in 1889 and The Bell Jar in 1963, both novels were revolutionary for their
times in terms of feminism, extramarital sex, and suicide. Both works explore the ways that females
may temporarily escape, or attempt to escape, the confines of their own minds: the chains that lead
them to attempt or complete suicide. Each woman finds brightness in her art, Edna with her painting

Joyce Dyer comments that the bird and Edna resemble each other in another way; both are meant to be
wild, but are domesticated for the sake of the family. She even has Madame Ratignolle feel [her]
shoulder blades, to see if [her] wings were strong hoping that she too has wings to allow her to fly
away from the expectations of tradition set on her (Chopin 300.) While Edna expresses that she is not
thinking of any extraordinary flights, to Arobin, she does not deny her wish to fly, and escape from
society (300). Unlike before, when Edna wishes to have wings, in this instance Edna realizes that she
has wings, or the power to escape. This changes her true desires from wanting to fly to not becoming
one of the weaklings bruised, exhausted, fluttering back to earth (300). Although Edna has not acted
upon her thoughts to become free, she is aware that she has the power to escape and live outside of
society. Through the bird symbolism, Chopin suggests that women lack the ability to be happy within
the circumstances society expects them to maintain. Both women also find freedom through
immersion in water. In The Bell Jar, Esther Greenwood finds freedom in her baths. She takes baths to
clean and purify herself from the grime of the world around her, even saying I never feel so much

Surviving Twins In Twins
Twins are at a greater risk to be diagnosed with cerebral palsy than singletons. If one twin dies during
infancy or a fetal death, the surviving twin has a higher potential of being diagnosed with cerebral
palsy. A survey was conducted in England and Wales to compare birthweight specific cerebral palsy
and to analyze was there a connection between cerebral palsy and like sex and unlike sex twins, also
did the death of a twin sibling increase the chances of the surviving twin having cerebral palsy. The
birth weight was a factor in the survey due to a higher occurrence of preterm births in twins. If a child
is born pre mature, he or she is at a higher risk of hypoxic ischaemic cerebral impairment. Data was
gathered on all the registered twins born in 1994 and 1995. The twins where one died and the other
survived was part of the sample. Also part of the sample group was whether the twins were of like or

In addition, government programs of granting working visas to foreign highly skilled students, as well
as technological investments and incentives also affect labor force supply.
In short, the firm must find a balance when planning the HR. It has to look at internal factors and
projections such as future sales and costs which help them predict demand and consequently forecast
the workforce needed. But at the same time it has to look at external factors to predict labor supply
and the external factors are found in the environment around the company.
2 What legal concerns does the data analysis at invincibility raise? How should the company address
those issues?

information to predict what specific employees are leaving the company. However, the firm has not
created an incentive or reward program based on the data acquired in the research, for trying to

components of us and them , as can be deduced from the following statements by him: Every civilized
nation here today is resolved to keep the most basic commitment of civilization: We will defend
ourselves and our future against terror and lawless violence (Bush, 11 November 2001). As stated
earlier, the members of an imagined community must share common interests. Interestingly, Bush
implies that universally accepted standards of humanity and war on terror are two common interests of
members of this civilized world : The civilized world is now responding. We act to defend ourselves
and deliver our children from a future of fear. We choose the dignity of life over a culture of death. We
choose lawful change and civil disagreement over coercion, subversion and chaos. These
commitments hope and order, law and life unite people across cultures and continents (Bush, 11
November 2001). Orientalism and imagined communities concepts are also embodied in Bush s State
of Union speech in 2002, where he again uses the term Civilized world at the beginning of his speech:
The civilized world faces unprecedented danger. Yet, the state of Union has never been

Identity In American Psycho
American Psycho , written by Bret Easton Ellis (1991), conveys the wealthy lifestyle of Patrick
Bateman who is a Manhattan businessman. As it is written from Bateman s perspective, the story
follows his routine at work, his meetings with his acquaintances and also his inner thoughts and
feelings which slowly unveil to be psychotic and gruesome.
The theme of personal identity is constant within the novel, as shown through Bateman s character.
Being a businessman working in Wall Street during the 80s, the people around him are all of similar
nature living an extravagant life of grandeur and obsessed with appearance. Within this type of
environment, the book portrays all of these characters as pretty much the same and also
interchangeable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This becomes clearer after his violent killings of people on street, which makes it difficult to
understand how he would have gotten away with it, and certainly towards the end of the book, the line
between reality and Bateman s hallucinations is very much blurred to him. The events described
during the scene when he is chased by the police is very dramatised by Bateman and the narration
suddenly changes to third person ... I lose control entirely [...] Patrick tries to put the cab in reverse but
nothing happens... . This suggests that perhaps all his violent delusions are just his imaginings and that
he doesn t really know what is real and what is not. Other examples include the part when he finds
Paul Owen s apartment to be pristine and empty, then is told to leave by an estate agent, and also when
his lawyer tells him that he had dinner with Paul Owen just 10 days ago, therefore Bateman couldn t
have possibly killed Owen. This links in with the relationship of the mind and body and also the
concept of Cartesian Dualism, made by the famous French philosopher René Descartes. It theorised
that the mind and body are separate and that the conscience works differently to the body and matter.
From this, Bateman s behaviours may be explained. As Bateman believes that his actions or his
psychotic fantasies are what being Patrick means to him , he truly

Hurricane Harvey Negative Effects
Hurricane Harvey left a mark on Houston, Texas this past August, leaving the citizens with a
devastating amount of destruction to their city. This catastrophic storm destroyed homes, separated
thousands of people from their families, and even killed some. According to National Public Radio s
website, the White House has estimated over 100,000 homes were damaged by the storm. Also, NPR
stated, More than 30,000 people are staying in emergency shelters and will soon be in need of
permanent accommodations. The impact that this hurricane left on Houston was extensive, and the
nation was able to see this through all of the news reports and through social media. The United States
came together during this time of trouble and helped tremendously, and they are continuing to help in
any way they can. Coming together as one is completely necessary after a tragedy like Hurricane
Harvey, but more can be done prior to the storm to prevent the extreme amount of damage that can be
caused. Being educated on how each family can prepare themselves, including knowing how
evacuations are handled, and their homes is crucial when dealing with a threatening hurricane. Before
learning how to prepare a home and how to properly evacuate, studying what hurricanes are and when
and where they happen is a priority. Hurricanes are massive storm systems that form over the water
and move toward land (Hurricanes). They include heavy rainfalls, high winds, coastal and inland
flooding, tornadoes, and

Of the many items that help enhance the horror of the Nazi Holocaust, one of the most notable is what it had of systematic and bureaucratic. Not only killing people, which would have had already been enough, but precisely being made in a quiet and civilized way. It is not strange the image of the Nazi leader quoting his favorite poet while sending to death hundreds of people, belying the myth that culture and education make people better. You think about it a little bit, and you then realize that it was in a dream, a dream that perfectly portrayed with every small detail the exact room you re now standing in. Sound familiar? This is an experience that is not as rare as most people think. For many, these arbitrary feelings of extreme familiarity, known as déjà vu, come through dreams that some say predict the future. Happenings such as these have only been talked about recently not because they haven t been around for long, but because society is finally starting to accept the idea that precognition can really exist. In a review of precognition in 1997, Barbara Brennan came to the conclusion that it appears that there are really far more instances of precognition than is commonly realized. So many, in fact, that the phenomenon may be almost universal. The reason we are largely unaware of this is that most precognition occurs in dreams (Funkhouser). However, MOOC has accumulated criticisms questioning its ability to deliver quality education that can be compared to its counterpart in classrooms. • 24. Examples Of Pathos By Cesar Chavez I have found that words that are loaded with pathos and create a seductive euphoric are apt to promote nonsense (Gunter Grass). Cesar Chavez proves that ethos and pathos can actually be very effective in promoting their case. In an article he wrote, Chavez used the rhetorical strategies of ethos and pathos to make his case and express his opinion about violence and nonviolence. Both of these strategies proved to be very effective throughout his entire article. Chavez s main rhetorical strategy was pathos. Pathos led to how the story impacted the reader s beliefs; pathos is used to affect the feeling of the reader. It is effective because it allows the reader to connect with what is being said. Ethos is also effective because it tells the reader what the right thing to do is. Most people will do their best to follow in the pathway that is considered the right way. Chavez states, the burdens of generations of poverty and powerlessness lie heavily in the fields of America. If we fail, there are those who will see violence as the shortcut to change (Chavez). This is ethos because it is saying we are who have to protect people from violence and if we fail, then it is our own fault. This is hitting a reader s moral side to do the right thing, or believe the right thing. This is effective because it works alongside the pathos being used. The pathos grabs the reader s attention then the ethos takes that attention and tells you what to do and how. This is effective because if the writer has their readers attention by use of ethos and pathos and can get them to take the blame, they will be more likely to follow what is being said in order to redeem themselves. This way of blaming the reader is especially effective because people naturally do not like taking the blame and will take paths that allow them to escape this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Dupot Pipeline Tragedy The horrible tragedy at the DuPont Chemical Plant in La Porte, Texas, which ended in four innocent people losing their lives, began roughly 5 days prior to the accident. It was November 10, 2014, when a reactor in the plants Lannate unit, an insecticide DuPont produces for many agricultural purposes, went down for an unscheduled maintenance. Lannate is produced by reacting toxic methyl mercaptan with other chemicals. Two days later on November 12th, after all the up keep was taken care of on the reactor, they tried to start it up again. They were unsuccessful in starting up the reactor, and further investigation revealed a slurry blocking any passage through the pipelines which lead to the reactor. However, slurries were a very common thing during shutdowns. They form when methyl mercaptan reacts with other stagnate chemicals in the pipeline, forming a blockage. To clear this slurry, operators began pumping hot water through the piping to try and break it up. By noon on November 13th, operators deemed they had cleared the slurry. Along with this modern era came harsh realizations of few or no jobs, ruthless working environments, unsanitary living conditions, polluted homes, unfair distribution of wealth, and false hopes these were very hard times. In Charles Dickens classic novel Hard Times, Dickens paints for the reader a picture of urbanization in the nineteenth century, Coketown lay shrouded in a haze of its own, which appeared impervious to the sun s rays. You only knew the town was there because you knew there could have been no such sulky blotch upon the prospect without a town. A blur of soot and smoke, now confusedly tending this way, now that way, now aspiring to the vault of Heaven, now murkily creeping along the earth, as the wind rose and fell, or changed its quarter: a dense formless jumble, with sheets of cross light in it, that showed nothing but masses of darkness—Coketown in the distance was suggestive of itself, though not a brick of it could be seen. Dickens shows that the murky smoke stacked city is a place of depression and at the heart of it all is industry. As the Industrial Revolution began to grow, the conditions worsened. It seemed that the lower class kept working harder and harder, while the aristocrats, business 6 owners, and middle class got richer and richer.
