Megans Law Essay example
Megan s Law When people think of their neighbors, do they think of violent sex crime offenders?
Many people have to deal with this every day of life. There are now laws that inform people of a
community when a sex crime offender moves into their town. These laws are said to keep violent sex
crime offenders from striking again, but do these laws really work is the question that many people
ask? The answer all depends on the opinion of the person who is being asking. Many supporters say
that the law is keeping sexually violent predators from striking again, but many critics say that the law
is unethical and breaks many amendments. This is another question proposed when the topic of
Megan s Law is brought up, is it breaking any of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On July 29, 1994, seven year old Megan Kanka, from Hamilton Township, New Jersey, was walking
home after playing at a friends house. She had almost reached her front door when Jesse
Timmendequas, 33, a landscaper who had lived across the street for a year invited her over to pet his
new puppy ( Richard 1 ). When Megan followed him inside, he led her to an upstairs bedroom,
strangled her unconscious with his belt, raped her and then asphyxiated her to death with a plastic bag.
Timmendequas then placed Megan s body in a tool box, drove it in his pick up truck to a near by
soccer field and dumped her body in some bushes ( Jerome 1 ). This, and the tragic murder of Amanda
Wengert, was how the name was developed. But in my paper I did not discuss the murder and raping
of Amanda Wengert.
Megan s Law created a registration and notification procedure to alert law enforcement, schools,
community organizations and neighbors to the presence of a sex offender who authorities believe may
pose a risk to the community ( Verniero 1) .When sex crime offenders are released from prison
according to this new law, they must register themselves with the police. If they are thought to be
dangerous and will possibly strike again, they must also register with the community. The sex crime
offenders have only three days when they move into a community to register with the police, or they
are considered to be breaking the law and will be arrested (Reno 2).

A Lie In Pamela Meyer s Ted Talk
A lie is defined as a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a
falsehood. Why do people lie? What is the point of lying? How can liars be spotted? With the help of
Pamela Meyer, these questions were able to be answered.
The two points and statements that I found the most interesting that Meyer made during her Ted Talk
was that 1 in every 10 interactions with a spouse. Also, one in every five interactions that college
students have with their mom has a lie. I do not understand how this number is that high. Your spouse
is supposed to be the person that you love the most and can be truthful about everything with. Many
married couples state in their vows that they would never lie to each other. That itself

Revegetation Project
Background: Exclosure installation is a frequently used passive restoration tactic in disturbed riparian
areas. While this method is effective at aiding graminoid recovery by removing grazing from wild and
domesticated ungulates as a disturbance, recovery of Salix spp. as well as other woody species
requires active intervention(Hough Snee et al. 2013). Much of the literature surrounding the use of
livestock exclosures has focused on the effects of removal in a passive restoration context as well as
highlighting the degrading effects of grazing and advocating for its elimination or minimization on
public lands (Sarr 2002). Little research has been done to explore strategies for restoration of woody
riparian species on active pastoral land ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
10 revegetation plots were established in the Spring of 2017 by students from Colorado State
University. The objectives of this study are to: 1) better inform the location of future revegetation
plots, 2) explore the dynamics of competition from grasses and grass likes in order to better inform
future treatments on revegetation plots, and 3) to explore the survivability of multiple woody riparian
species across treatment types in order to inform species selection on future revegetation plots.
Hypotheses/Questions: The primary question of this study is where can revegetation plots best be
located relative to grazing rotations? Of interest is: How is the rate of planting success (multiyear
survival) affected by placement in recently grazed systems versus ungrazed (rested) systems? How is
primary and secondary growth affected by placement of plantings in grazed versus ungrazed
systems/can grazing be utilized to reduce competition to woody riparian species from riparian grasses?
It is predicted that: Relative to unexclosed plots, survival rates will be higher with grazing exclusion
owing to reduced herbivory from livestock; Survival rates will be higher within grazed plots owing to
reduced resource competition from riparian grasses; Growth rates will be higher within grazed plots
due to greater root establishment and less root space competition. Methods: A total of 3

No One Factor Was Directly Responsible For The French...
No one factor was directly responsible for the French Revolution. Years of feudal oppression and
fiscal mismanagement contributed to a French society that was ripe for revolt. The economical
downturn may have been the kickstarter that began the revolution as the taxes rose higher and outrage
at the crown heightened. The economy began to destabilise in the late 1700s, and the king decided to
bring in financial advisers to look at the weakened French treasurey. Each adviser gave the king the
same warning that something had to be done and radical changes had to be made, but each were, in
their turn, kicked out. After the financial crisis began to effect France more harshly, the king finally
decided that something had to be done, and so he appointed a new controller general of finance,
Charles de Calonne in 1783. Calonne suggested many ways to get France out of the spiral, but most
balanced on the nobility paying taxes as well as the French public. He pleaded with them at the
National Assembly, but to no avail. Thus, financial ruin became imminent.
The Jacobins, led by Robespierre who wanted the king out of the picture entirely where the radicals of
the Assembly. Whereas the Girondins took a more moderate approach to the monarchy. This led to the
rift in the assembly, which caused the Girondins to lose power.

Shawn Love Mrs. Echols ERWC, Period 2 12 February 2017 The Advancements in Architecture The
good building is not one that hurts the landscape, but one which makes the landscape more beautiful
than it was before the building was built (Frank Lloyd Wright). Throughout the centuries, architecture
has fascinated everyone. History is inscribed in buildings and they can express the political and
economic power of a nation. Although time has gone by, buildings have not. You can still idolize
ancient Egyptian and Greek architecture and see how the events that occurred at that time influenced
them. Although buildings from as far as the ancient times are still standing strong today, they had few
materials to work with and they weren t as strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Previously, metals weren t in sufficient quantities and in consistent enough quality. This meant that
buildings were limited to materials found in nature, such as stone, clay, timber, limestone, and
concrete. However, not only did the Industrial Revolution change the world, but it also changed
architecture. During this century, the worldwide production of iron was 825,000 tons, and by 1900, it
rose up to nearly 50 times more. The most commonly used form of iron was steel, which was not only
stronger and versatile, but was also tensile and had compressive strength greater than any other
material previously used before. Although steel allowed architects to design much taller buildings with
a lot more interior space, there was one major flaw that prevented architects from doing so. To cement
a new friendship, especially between foreigners or persons of a different social world, a spark with
which both were secretly charged must fly from person to person, and cut across the accidents of place
and time (Elisha Graves Otis). Elevators have been known to exist since the Roman era. They were
created with a basic pulley system that were operated by either humans, animals, or water power. For
example, Rome s Coliseum had 12 elevators that hoisted up the gladiators and wild animals from one
stage floor to the next. In England, elevators were powered by a steam machine or a hydraulic pump
and were used to bring up the monarch s food more

Instead, accounting standards require that Bally recognize initiation fee revenue over the entire
membership life. This means that for members who maintained their memberships beyond the
financing period, or initial period of membership, Bally was required to defer initiation fee revenue
and recognize it over the estimated membership life, not over the term of the initial period of
membership. However, Bally prematurely recognized its members initiation fee revenue over a period
that was not only shorter than the estimated membership life, but in most instances even shorter than
the initial period of membership.
Personal Training Services: In addition to selling health club memberships, Bally also sold personal
training services (i.e., exercise sessions with personal trainers). Some customers prepaid for sessions
with personal trainers. Accounting standards require that revenue from prepaid personal training
services be recognized only when earned, which is when the personal training services were actually
provided. Bally, however, recognized revenue related to personal training services before those
services were actually provided.

Compare And Contrast The End Of History And Fukuyama
The end of the Cold War was not just a politically significant event but also an important intellectual
milestone, where academics, researchers and intellectuals examined the consequences that its end
would concur. Fukuyama s The End of History and Huntington s Clash of Civilizations are two of
such explorations but contrast each other significantly. Fukuyama predicts a future of peace, or
minimal conflict, amidst the spread of Western liberal democracy, a system of government he believes
has been actualized as perfect in Hegel s realm of consciousness whereas Huntington argues that
conflict will stem from civilizational differences, owing to the rise in civilization consciousness. I will
start my essay by briefly summarizing the main arguments of each article, after which I will attempt to
critique each one before drawing comparisons between the two.

They can essentially both be viewed as imperialists in the disguise of academia. In trying to argue that
fascism and communism were imperialist forces that the West defeated, Fukuyama forgot to consider
that the capitalism itself is one of those forces, guided by capital gain, and exploitation. In that sense,
when he argues about the appreciation of American culture in other countries, it becomes a new
imperialism of culture where there is a new global proletariat of weaker countries who can t afford to
have protectionist economies to safeguard their values because then the West wont help them.
Nonetheless, neither Huntington nor Fukuyama tells us what we need to know in order to synthesize
their perspectives, or to ultimately decide between

Write An Alternate Ending To The Firekid
Old man firebird was proud of his little flame,
It brightened his day to just hear his name,
Not because of all the problems he overcame
Rather despite them his sunny deposition remained,
The firekid, he wasn t perfectly dressed,
Little rough around the edges, yet casually messed,
He couldn t help but be subtly impressed,
Because he burnt savagely,
But it hadn t always been like this,
You see, there were times he tried to hide his light
Every firekid hits their moment of plight,
To compress the brightness that would always ignite,
They all needed a brighter flame to guide them in their flight,
If we go back to when he was born in a supernova,

Embedded deep into his soul,
A calling he could not ignore,
He succumbed,
And so he let his heart be hardened and his flames be eclipsed,
Then came along Little Miss Firebird,
Now she was beautiful,
Little Miss Firebird, she was imperfectly dressed,

Because she was like him and he liked her,
He wanted to tell her that he liked her,

But this girl was wicked,
Because she accepted him,

His soul began to mend, his judgment enshrouded,

Media Test
In category IV, agar plates were used containing differential and selective aspects to determine the
unknown bacterium. The first media test was the EMB. EMB separates fecal coliforms that are
produced through carbohydrates that are fermentable, such as sucrose and lactose. The different fecal
coliforms represent the differential factor of this test, while the selective factor selects against gram
positive organisms. Lactose fermenters appear purple, pink, blue, and black colonies, while non
lactose fermenters appear clear to light orange. This occurs because Eosin Y and methylene indicators
react at low pH forming the purple precipitate. On the other hand, vigorous fermenters appear metallic

The selectivity for halophiles refers to a bacterium s ability to grow in a salt environment. The media
differentiated between mannitol fermenters and non fermenters. The yellow agar meant that the
bacterium was a fermenter, whereas no color change meant that the bacterium was not a fermenter. In
Table 1, the test observed growth of colonies and a pink agar. The growth indicated that the bacterium
represented a halophilic nature, while the pink agar indicated no fermentation of mannitol. Research
discovered that E. coli had no growth of colonies and no change in media. Therefore, E. coli was ruled
out. Also, B. megaterium and E. faecalis were discovered to have yellow medias from being able to
ferment mannitol. However, in this lab, the unknown bacterium did not ferment mannitol. As a result,
all the potential bacteria did not fit the expected results, so this test did not work. In the end, category
IV tests did not represent helpful information that would help identify the unknown bacterium, since
the bacterium indicated different observations compared to expected observations for eosin methylene
blue agar and mannitol salts agar. A possible source of error of these two tests could have been that the
bacterium was contaminated due to improper inoculation techniques, such as not using a loop that was

Through The Tunnel Doris Lessing Analysis
Rocks are universal symbols of strength and stability, but a small percentile of people would disagree.
Doris Lessing would fit into the few, as rocks in her short story, Through the Tunnel , are associated
with modifications and instability. The main character, Jerry s initial goal is to travel through a tunnel
in order to fit in with the older and cooler kids. Throughout his journey, he encounters or utilises rocks
in three different instances. He uses rocks to weigh himself down during training, he finds rocks
scattered across the white ocean floor, and he is met with sharp rocks as he travels through the tunnel.
Doris Lessing s message of not letting society change oneself is illustrated through Jerry s usage of
rocks to accomplish certain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jerry describes these rocks as sharp and pained his back (Lessing 372 373). The sharpness and pain
associated with the rocks could be related to Jerry s initial goal to fit in with the cool, big boys, and in
the process, had to alter himself. He didn t feel himself which could be related to pain. Additionally,
being molded to fit someone else s standards can be a painful process. As he continues swimming
through the tunnel, he was being continually pressed against the sharp roof (Lessing, 383 384). Being
continually pressed is representative of society s relentlessness and stubbornness. To escape this
pressure takes a strong individual, and after one is comfortable with themselves, they can accomplish
great things. Jerry was able to grow into his own self and use self motivation to accomplish a great
task, going through the tunnel. Lessing uses the negative connotation around the sharpness of the
rocks to convey her message that conformity is harmful and painful, an atrocious thing to go

Aesthetic Analysis
Aesthetics is the branch of philosophy that asks questions about the nature of art and beauty. The
Classical definition of art is the good, the true, the beautiful. Art equals something that is beautiful
then it is true and leads the person experiencing it, to the good. While this may be the classical
definition of art it is not quite accurate. To think that something is true and good just because it is
beautiful is not right. There are three critiques of this definition which define art in a different light.
Leo Tolstoy defines one as romantic art; The essence of a work of art is the emotion it causes to an
audience. It makes everyone feel as one because they are all feeling the same emotion. Malcolm
Bradbury defines modern art as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Murder Mysteries Essay
How Far Are The Speckled Band And Lamb To The Slaughter Typical Of
Murder Mysteries? How Are The Stories The Same And How Are They
Different? Compare The Ways In Which The Stories Are Told
Murder mystery usually means where there is a murder involving money, love or revenge. The victim
s friend or a family member goes to a detective and tells them what they know about the murder and
the suspects and where they were, and what they were doing at that time.
There are a lot of famous detectives in books, TV and video for example; Sherlock Holmes, Jonathon
Creek, Hercule Poirot, Inspector
Morse, Danziel and Pascoe. They even appear in children s books and on
TV, for example, Scooby Doo.

I also studied The Three Garridebs in which there is no murder, which is very weird even though it is a
murder mystery, there is a mystery but it is connected to money. There is no victim in it but the villain
is the main character and he is very cunning and Conan Doyle makes him come out as the victim the
one who needs help when he doesn t and the main setting is in Birmingham and Conan Doyle doesn t
describe it.
The similarities are that both the detectives are male and each had partners. The motive of the murder
in Lamb to the Slaughter is anger and in The Speckled Band it is money. The murder in the Lamb to
the
Slaughter involves an unusual murder weapon, a frozen leg of lamb.
One of the detectives, Sherlock Holmes is a professional and doesn t trust anyone or anything and
investigates extremely thoroughly. The other detective doesn t do his job well; he drinks on the job,
and consumes the meal, which is the evidence. One of the villains is Mary
Maloney, who wasn t expecting to kill her husband, it was just unfortunate that he said something to
make her really mad. The other villain, Dr Grimesby Roylott wants all the money to himself so he
kills Julia and attempts to kill Helen.
These Stories are different because of the weapons; a leg of lamb and a snake and also the language is
very old and archaic in The Speckled
Band . But in other respects they are similar to ones I have heard

AMCL Essay
The UCL is crucial for valgus stability, maintaining the appropriate angle of the elbow away from the
body, of the elbow and is the primary elbow stabilizer. As stated in Haan et al. (2011), the AMCL is
divided in two functional components and is taut throughout the full range of flexion and extension
because the components are alternatively tightening throughout this range of motion. The posterior
part of the AMCL is taut from eighty degrees flexion to full flexion; in contrast, the anterior part of the
AMCL is taut in extension.
The AMCL is a stronger ligament than the PMCL, acting as the primary medial ligamentous joint

According to Kacprowicz (2017), in order to properly diagnose and treat any injury to the UCL, a
comprehensive understanding of the functional anatomy and biomechanics of the UCL in overhead
throwing sports is imperative. The anterior bundle of the UCL is particularly susceptible to injury. The
study by Awh (2010) reports that, These injuries are often associated with those of the flexor pronator
muscle tendon unit, a stabilizer at the medial elbow. Strains and/or fatigue of the dynamic stabilizers
may cause increased tears of the UCL. The posterior bundle of the UCL is not as vulnerable for injury
since it does not play a large role in the overhead throwing motion.
Acute tears of the anterior bundle of the UCL can be seen on high quality MR images. Edema,
abnormal laxity, and discontinuity of the ligament are all signs of UCL disruption. Partial tears can be
diagnosed with edema and focal areas of discontinuity with residual intact fibers. However, according
to Awh (2010), with complete tears, laxity is more apparent and edema and/or disorganized soft tissue
extend across the width of the anterior bundle. With proper inspection, one can identify both the site
and severity of UCL injury.
Langer et al. (2016) discusses that, despite excellent reported outcomes in the operative management
of UCL injuries in throwing athletes, debate remains over the

911
I have always wondered what it would be like to call 911 and talk to the dispatcher. I have wondered

Explain Why Is Nelson Mandela A Role Model
Task 1
Why is Nelson Mandela a role model for so many people in the world?
Nelson Mandela decided already as a young man to take part in the freedom struggle for his people as
a lawyer. He was a black man who had political opinions and lived in a country with non coloured
regime. You may see that he wasn t much liked by the apartheid regime. He was imprisoned for 27
years of his life but that couldn t break him. He only grew stronger. The regime fought the majority of
South Africa with power, but Nelson Mandela fought with words. If that isn t a good role model, then
who is? Who do you look to as a similar role model and why?
I look to Martin Luther King as a similar role model. That is because he fought for anti segregation

Many have big dreams about making big changes in the world. We want to help and we want to

Often dreams stay just as dreams and maybe you even forget them too. You watch TV and suddenly
some poor and hungry children that live somewhere in Africa appears and you think Oh I wish I could
do something . Nowadays there are some things that we can do to help. We can donate money and we
send old clothes that we don t use anymore. These small things for us are a huge difference for them.
A normal meal for us may be the same for them as food for a whole month or so. Do what your heart

dream you can choose that also makes a change. Sometimes people think I have to do that not because

The Devil s Arithmetic And Comparison Essay
The Devil s Arithmetic Compare/Contrast Essay The Devil s Arithmetic teaches us countless lessons
throughout both forms of publishing. Each form however has a different lesson and develops them in
different ways. The book differentiates from the movie in numerous ways. In both the book and the
movie there are many similarities, but there is still diversity. Each form of media develops their
individual themes differently because that makes it more apparent for the viewers to understand and
absorb.
Jane Yolen wrote The Devil s Arithmetic with the main theme about remembering what
happened, sacrifices, and honoring those who died. Hannah Stern ,a 13 year old girl, is tired of
remembering and doesn t want to go to the Seder. Hannah faces a dream that seems like reality where
she learns what happened in Concentration Camps to the Jews. She learns that she must remember
what happened to the Jews and she learns about sacrifice and honoring the dead. After waking from
her dreams she realizes she must remember the Holocaust, honor the dead Jews, and stay true to her
religion. The Devil s Arithmetic film was made in 1999 based on the book written by Jane Yolen. The
movie highlights the horror and dismay the Jews faced in the camps. Hannah the main character faces
the disheartening nature of these camps in her dream which feels like reality to her. Hannah learns
about the Holocaust and what happens if you were in the camps during the Holocaust while in her

based on the real Macbeth, who had committed similar actions to the fictional Macbeth. Although the
play was believed to be created between 1599 1606 in Scotland, it can still be very easily relevant to
contemporary society. Contemporary means existing or occurring at the present time. (Collins
Dictionary, 2012). The themes, messages and ideas that will be discussed in this text are Appearances
can be deceptive , The difficulty of choosing the correct decisions whilst exterior events occur and
Ambition can lead to Corruption . It will review how they can all still relate to contemporary society.
It is believed that Appearances can be deceptive was a big theme in Macbeth. It refers to people who
act one way, but are not really what they seem like. In Act 1, Scene 1, Line 12, the witches had
invoked the words Fair is foul and foul is fair. That is foreshadowing Macbeth s evil judgments that
are yet to happen. There was also irony in how King Duncan had stated This castle hath a pleasant
seat, in Act 1, Scene 6, Line 1, upon arriving at the Macbeth s house for a banquet, unaware that
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth were actually planning his murder. The theme Appearances can be
deceptive relates to contemporary society because people today often put on an act to get what they
want or they. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the witches in Act 1, Scene 3, had told Macbeth and Banquo their fates, but Macbeth
chose to kill King Duncan with his own free will. It is strongly believed that Macbeth already had the
ambition to become king, but the witches strengthened his beliefs to actually make it happen. This
happens in society today because some people often believe what is said to them, then it strengthens
their will to do certain actions. For example, someone could spread rumours about a bullied person
which causes everyone to avoid

Dbq Black Death
In order to understand the significance the Black Death played in bringing about the decline in
population in the second half of the fourteenth century, a number of issues need to be considered. To
begin with, the Black Death s significance should be looked at, including its victims, the rural and
urban population, and recovery in the 1350s. Also, we have to look at the impact of later plagues, and
the age and gender specificity of them. However, we should also look at other factors that affect the
population, such as fertility and change in marriage trends. Given the particular question we should
also look at the pre plague population to get a better understanding of the population in general. It is
only by studying these issues that we can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The over population meant that more food had to be produced in order to sustain the population,
however, economic changes and changes in climate caused bad harvests and famine. Unsurprisingly,
there was a disproportionate rise of mortality among the village poor in times of famine. Falling
temperatures caused severe harvest failures between 1315 and 1322, with the famine of 1315 to 1317
being called The Great Famine which is said to have killed 10 to 15% of the population. With so many
people living on the edge, the succession of bad harvests were bound to have a catastrophic affect. A
dearth of food encouraged the already high death rate and also affected the birth rate as it discouraged
fewer marriages and children, and we have already seen the effects this had on the population after the
plague. On the Winchester manors heriot payers during the famine of 1315 to 1317 averaged at 142
annually, compared with 48 in the worst years of the 1270s. Ieuan Gethin described the plague in
Wales as being a rootless phantom which has no mercy but the famines introduced an era of high
mortality which lasted until the Black Death, thus showing continuity in population decline. The
Postan theory suggests that the plague did not start the downturn, but the damage had already been
done before the plague, and the failure to repair the damage had been one of the causes for the delayed
recovery. For instance the already high death rates due to famine made the Black Death merely a
catalyst to decline. However, the trend is different all over the country, as Razi found for Halesowen.
It is clear, however that famine conditions in 1369 also helped to reduce the

Difference Between Soft And Soft Hrm
Soft HRM is defined as a high commitment work system, which is aimed at eliciting a commitment so
that behaviour is primarily self regulated rather than controlled by sanctions and pressures external to
the individual and relations within the organization are based on high levels of trust .35 Another
essential part of Soft HRM is the importance of communication and the goal of flexibility and
adaptability. Theoretically the employee doesn t only comply with the companies goals, but positively
commits himself to its values and aims, and by that see a meaning in their work .The commitment
employee s show can only be achieved through trust, training, development and the freedom of
autonomous and self controlled work.
Hard HRM is often considered as the opposite of Soft HRM, as it is defined as quantitative,
calculative and business strategic [mean] of managing the headcount resource 36 and sees the
employee more like a resource, similar to other components of the production. The HR policies and
practices are coherent with the strategic goals set by the company and aim to increase the general
competiveness of the company. Following, the management expects the employees to be unwilling to
work and has to take control over his actions to secure the companies stability and competiveness. The
employee is instrumentalized.

Examples Of Mamb To The Slaughter By Mary Maloney
The unlawful premeditated killing of one human being from another, is the basic definition for
murder. Unlawfully killing someone and having no reason of killing him/her is murder, there just isn t
any argument for it. In Lamb to the Slaughter by Roald Dahl, Mary Maloney is a housewife married to
Patrick Maloney in the 1950s. He tells her something she doesn t want to hear, more than likely it s a
divorce, and she still decides to cook dinner for him. She takes a frozen leg lamb they were going to
eat that night and hits him over the head with it. Cold blood murderer, that it was she is. Mary
Maloney is a conniving criminal and aware of and responsible for her actions due to her ability to
manipulate others through her actions. This makes her guilty of her conviction. Mary Maloney is
guilty because of her manipulation to others, she acted like she was panicking about his death, and at
the end, she had a devilish laugh because she knew she got away with murder.
To start off telling why she is a murderer, she is able to manipulate others through her words and her
actions. Manipulation is something that someone needs to be able to get away with others. If someone
can get them to believe him or her, then that person can say whatever that person wants them to hear.
This is exactly what Mary Maloney did to the police. Mary Maloney in Lamb to the Slaughter says
You must be terribly hungry by now because it s long past your supper time, and I know Patrick would

Range Rover Analysis
The Myth of The Range Rover and Hollywood In Hollywood you re not considered a prominent
figure, until you drive a Range Rover. For this reason, the Range Rover is the perfect commodity to
exemplify a Hollywood myth. A myth as Roland Barthes describes in Mythologies, is a kind of
speech, in which the history of an object is distorted to signify a new modern history that feels
completely natural to modern society. The Range Rover has been appropriated into Hollywood by
celebrities and is predominantly owned by upper class celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Jay Z and
David Beckham. This vehicle, which was was originally used in the military and for off roading
terrain has had it s history drained and filled with a new history that signifies a much different myth
than it used to. In this essay, I will argue that the myth of the Range Rover signifies a prestigious and
powerful vehicle, designed with royalty and privilege as it is made specifically for the celebrities and
the famous upper class personalities of Hollywood. The Range Rover s appearance has an
authoritative god like presence caused by the size of the vehicle. It is a large vehicle, but mostly in it s
height as it is not very wide and appears significantly slim. Despite how large the body of the vehicle
appears, it can only sit five people so virtually no additional seating is gained by the size of the
vehicle, therefore the size of the vehicle is not for convenience purposes, but for exterior appearance.

Non Verbal And Verbal Communication
Communication is important in any industry. There are many forms of communication and it is
constantly evolving. One such field that communication is important in is physical therapy. There is
constant interaction between patients, physical therapists, physical therapists assistants, other
employees, other health professionals, etc. This report will look at communication within different
levels of employment, non verbal and verbal communication, communication impacted by the
audience, technology, interpersonal skills, and feedback.
First and foremost is non verbal communication. The very first impression you have of someone is
their physical appearance. Nonverbal communication plays a large role in the dynamics of how people
relate to one another in the workplace (Perkins, 2010). It is important for workers in the physical
therapy profession to dress appropriately and show confidence. When working with patients there is a
lot to consider. What type of message do you send, consciously and unconsciously, in the way you
dress, your facial expression, your greeting rituals, your displays of emotion, your gestures, your tone
of voice, or your use of space? (Perkins, 2010, p. 51). It is important to consider all these because the
patient wants to know and feel they are in good hands.
Nonverbal communication is also important within the work area. Employers want to know they can
trust their employees especially with patients. An individual also wants to get along with their

The Human Tissue Act 65 of 1983 regulates all aspects regarding organ transplants. This
Act was last amended in 1989. Since then medical science has developed so big in size and to such an
extent that organ transplants today are almost routine operations in many hospitals. Unfortunately the
current methods of procuring human organs are not supplying the demand. A new approach, the
commercialization of human organs for transplantation is a possibility with the potential to supply one
hundred per cent of the demand for organs. There are however many arguments against the
commercialization of human organs. Ethical aspects concerning commercialization of human organs

Such cases may be motivated by the desire to discharge a religious duty, to correct a wrong done in the
past, to gain mental or moral satisfaction, or to be seen as a good

Once the practice of organ donation by the genetically related and also by strangers, based on altruism,
has been accepted as ethically sound the following components of organ removal stand morally
vindicated. Here are 2 of which they are talking about: (a) A person s expectation to enjoy life with the
help of organs belonging to others is valid, and(b) the breach of a donor s bodily integrity and the
consequent harms are permissible. Judged on these values a person s act of severing his/her organ in
order to liberate a fellow being from a terminal illness or to save his/her life cannot be dubbed as
immoral simply because the act is accompanied by a reasonable material consideration. When a
person sells an organ he or she acts both selfishly, in advantaging him or herself, and altruistically, in
contributing to a public good. The presence of considerations is not a sufficient reason to transform a
simple act into a sin. Otherwise, selling water to the thirsty would be an equally big sin in fact rather a
bigger one (Marino 2002).
Policies on organ transplantation reflect a unique social paternalism. Objections against the sale of
organs such as the dilution of altruism in society, the risk that

Analysis Of David Hanson s Carnage And Culture Essay
Question2: In Carnage and Culture, Victor David Hanson expressed a slanted perspective about the
crucial battles in western history in order to support his theory that western militaristic strategies are
superior to alternative forms of warfare. He fostered his sentiments by explaining how specific battle
tactics can unify or divide a nation in a matter of moments. However, his reference to the concept that
western warriors continuously triumph in war, is expressed in a manner that does not fully evaluate
both perspectives of the conflict. Hanson alluded to his message behind Carnage and Culture in his
thesis: A sense of personal freedom, superior discipline, matchless weapons, egalitarian camaraderie,
individual initiative, constant tactical adaptations, and flexibility, preference for shock battle of heavy
infantry were themselves the murderous dividend of Hellenic culture at large ... Yet for the past 2,500
years even in the Dark Ages, well before the Military Revolution, and not simply as a result of the
Renaissance, the European discovery of the Americas, or the Industrial Revolution there has been a
peculiar practice of Western warfare, a common foundation and continual way of fighting, that has
made Europeans the most deadly soldiers the history of civilizations. (Hanson 5 6)
Although Hanson is able to give an overview of valuable battles that express western confidence and
reflect the west s brutal military tactics that, his analysis of the war does not

Teotihuacan Textual Analysis
Often when studying history we encounter a paradigm of thinking that explicitly emphasizes the
importance of written history above all else. In art history however, we are struck with the issue of
navigating this paradigm in a field of study that sometimes only has visual culture for us to reference.
Because of this, it often becomes a challenge to incorporate this visual evidence with a written record,
whether it be another culture s record or a written record that isn t inherently written . And when it
comes to examining the visual culture of Post Classic Mexico, both of these are the case. With Mixtec
and Aztec codices made entirely of pictographs and glyphs, we are forced to consider colonial hybrid
documents in addition to these glyphs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most prominent examples of this is the debate surrounding the Great Goddess of
Teotihuacan which can be seen in Figure 2. With a lack of textual evidence to help understand this
deity s gender or potential role in Teotihuacan culture, we as historians are forced to make
assumptions often relying on modern, Western stereotypes of femininity and masculinity (Mandell,
29). As seen in Elisa C. Mandell s article A New Analysis of the Gender Attribution of the Great
Goddess of Teotihuacan from Ancient Mesoamerica, the depiction of the Great Goddess is
complicated due to a lack of obvious primary or secondary sexual organs (Mandell, 30). Because of
this, analysis of the deity s gender must be based upon more subjective elements such as clothing and
ceremonial dress. However, unlike the Aztec, we have no textual evidence like codices or colonial
hybrid documents to designate gendered clothing or depictions in Teotihuacan culture. We cannot even
assume the deity s gender from Post classic text as it can easily be misinterpreted like the initial theory
that the Great Goddess represents the rain god Tlaloc. Whereas in the post classic period we can look
at at statue of Coatlicue and connect her skirt of snakes to the textual depiction of her image, we have
no basis of comparison to identify or gender the Great Goddess. And while Mendell s argument for the
female gender of the Great Goddess remains sound, she is forced to draw from a variety of complex
representations of Teotihuacan art and iconography such as sculpture, bowls, and murals that lack a
direct translation and association which inherently leaves room

Gender Roles And Social Cognitive Theory
Women model their behavior after the female protagonists they see in films because they see them
being successful in love and wish for the same. Women modeling this behavior are an example of
social cognitive theory. In the 1980s, this theory was expanded by film theorists who drew from
different fields and since then many studies have been conducted to see how films influence society
(Nannicelli). Stereotypes in film influences society in the ways it portrays romance, explained by
social cognitive theory; movies give a false illusion for women to believe and unrealistic expectations
of men and relationships.
The social cognitive theory suggests that people who watch romantic comedies glean some
understanding from the films by observing the actors behavior and take away from it how they should
behave in their own relationships. Due to the unrealistic modeling of behavior that the media gives
society, following this example cannot possibly bring a desirable outcome. Hollywood s goal is to
entertain their viewers and make them fall in love with the story and characters, but viewers often don
t realize this and after watching a romantic movie have a longing for fairy tale love. Hollywood has
created an unrealistic and unattainable love. Therefore, when women model their ideals for a
relationship off of the romantic comedy genre, they are highly disappointed, ultimately causing
themselves to once again go back to living vicariously through the characters (Green).

The Importance Of Censorship Of Music
Music is a form of art. An art that has been around ever since the beginning of time. It is arguably
considered to be the universal language of this world. Music is what connects the hearts and feelings
of one another regardless of race, color, and religious backgrounds. Art is used to express oneself. It
also has the power to motivate and influence others. Throughout the years, music has evolved and
transformed in many ways. However, there are restrictions in today s music, otherwise known as,
censorships. There is a large crisis occurring regarding these censorships. This argument consists of
two possible stances: one, supporting the continuation of the censorship of music, and two,
eliminating the status quo of censorships in the music industry. There have been countless debates and
arguments regarding the issues of censorship since 1927 when the U.S. Congress passed the Radio Act
(The History). The time has come for the censored in today s music to be disable. The government
should release their grip on the censorship of music for the following reasons: censorship restricts an
artist s ability to convey his or her message toward the listeners, it limits an artist s capacity for
creativity, and it diminishes the audience s appreciation of the content in the music.
First of all, the concept of censorships severely limits an artist s ability to fully express his or herself
through the art of music. Musicians typically sing about their values and issues. For this reason,

This strategic power move targets a country s population. Social sanctions, such as banning popular
American and European websites (Google, Twitter, Facebook, etc.) can impede the progress of a
nation s citizens causing them to be years behind the rest of the world. Another example of social
sanctions is prohibiting a country from international competition, such as the World Cup or the
Olympics, similar to the occurrence in South Africa when it was bared from the Olympics and World
Cup due to their racist apartheid regime. These sanctions can technologically deprive a nation of most
developments. If a nation is technologically deprived, it cannot compete with other countries due to
lack of sufficient knowledge. It also keeps its citizens enclosed in a theoretical bubble, disconnecting
them from the rest of the world. This is problematic for Burma s government, a nation cannot advance
into the future, if its people are still affixed, lingering to the past. If there is no growth in

increasing at a higher rate. Overall, we believe that our group had a decent understanding of the
concepts as we finished with high market share and profits. Our group took time to meet every week
to discuss our strategy for Capsim. We met on Mondays, usually for an hour or so to discuss the task
at hand. We also met on Wednesdays if there was doubt in our decisions from Monday or if one of our
group members could not make it. Our group chose to discuss the game as a whole, rather than
sectioning it up to make sure that everyone was on the same page. We didn t have any conflicts in our
decisions and actually got along very well. Overall as a group we thought Capsim had its advantages
and disadvantages. We did learn a lot about the

  • 2. Megans Law Essay example Megan s Law When people think of their neighbors, do they think of violent sex crime offenders? Many people have to deal with this every day of life. There are now laws that inform people of a community when a sex crime offender moves into their town. These laws are said to keep violent sex crime offenders from striking again, but do these laws really work is the question that many people ask? The answer all depends on the opinion of the person who is being asking. Many supporters say that the law is keeping sexually violent predators from striking again, but many critics say that the law is unethical and breaks many amendments. This is another question proposed when the topic of Megan s Law is brought up, is it breaking any of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On July 29, 1994, seven year old Megan Kanka, from Hamilton Township, New Jersey, was walking home after playing at a friends house. She had almost reached her front door when Jesse Timmendequas, 33, a landscaper who had lived across the street for a year invited her over to pet his new puppy ( Richard 1 ). When Megan followed him inside, he led her to an upstairs bedroom, strangled her unconscious with his belt, raped her and then asphyxiated her to death with a plastic bag. Timmendequas then placed Megan s body in a tool box, drove it in his pick up truck to a near by soccer field and dumped her body in some bushes ( Jerome 1 ). This, and the tragic murder of Amanda Wengert, was how the name was developed. But in my paper I did not discuss the murder and raping of Amanda Wengert. Megan s Law created a registration and notification procedure to alert law enforcement, schools, community organizations and neighbors to the presence of a sex offender who authorities believe may pose a risk to the community ( Verniero 1) .When sex crime offenders are released from prison according to this new law, they must register themselves with the police. If they are thought to be dangerous and will possibly strike again, they must also register with the community. The sex crime offenders have only three days when they move into a community to register with the police, or they are considered to be breaking the law and will be arrested (Reno 2). The general ... • 3. A Lie In Pamela Meyer s Ted Talk A lie is defined as a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a falsehood. Why do people lie? What is the point of lying? How can liars be spotted? With the help of Pamela Meyer, these questions were able to be answered. The two points and statements that I found the most interesting that Meyer made during her Ted Talk was that 1 in every 10 interactions with a spouse. Also, one in every five interactions that college students have with their mom has a lie. I do not understand how this number is that high. Your spouse is supposed to be the person that you love the most and can be truthful about everything with. Many married couples state in their vows that they would never lie to each other. That itself ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Revegetation Project Background: Exclosure installation is a frequently used passive restoration tactic in disturbed riparian areas. While this method is effective at aiding graminoid recovery by removing grazing from wild and domesticated ungulates as a disturbance, recovery of Salix spp. as well as other woody species requires active intervention(Hough Snee et al. 2013). Much of the literature surrounding the use of livestock exclosures has focused on the effects of removal in a passive restoration context as well as highlighting the degrading effects of grazing and advocating for its elimination or minimization on public lands (Sarr 2002). Little research has been done to explore strategies for restoration of woody riparian species on active pastoral land ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 10 revegetation plots were established in the Spring of 2017 by students from Colorado State University. The objectives of this study are to: 1) better inform the location of future revegetation plots, 2) explore the dynamics of competition from grasses and grass likes in order to better inform future treatments on revegetation plots, and 3) to explore the survivability of multiple woody riparian species across treatment types in order to inform species selection on future revegetation plots. Hypotheses/Questions: The primary question of this study is where can revegetation plots best be located relative to grazing rotations? Of interest is: How is the rate of planting success (multiyear survival) affected by placement in recently grazed systems versus ungrazed (rested) systems? How is primary and secondary growth affected by placement of plantings in grazed versus ungrazed systems/can grazing be utilized to reduce competition to woody riparian species from riparian grasses? It is predicted that: Relative to unexclosed plots, survival rates will be higher with grazing exclusion owing to reduced herbivory from livestock; Survival rates will be higher within grazed plots owing to reduced resource competition from riparian grasses; Growth rates will be higher within grazed plots due to greater root establishment and less root space competition. Methods: A total of 3 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. No One Factor Was Directly Responsible For The French... No one factor was directly responsible for the French Revolution. Years of feudal oppression and fiscal mismanagement contributed to a French society that was ripe for revolt. The economical downturn may have been the kickstarter that began the revolution as the taxes rose higher and outrage at the crown heightened. The economy began to destabilise in the late 1700s, and the king decided to bring in financial advisers to look at the weakened French treasurey. Each adviser gave the king the same warning that something had to be done and radical changes had to be made, but each were, in their turn, kicked out. After the financial crisis began to effect France more harshly, the king finally decided that something had to be done, and so he appointed a new controller general of finance, Charles de Calonne in 1783. Calonne suggested many ways to get France out of the spiral, but most balanced on the nobility paying taxes as well as the French public. He pleaded with them at the National Assembly, but to no avail. Thus, financial ruin became imminent. The Jacobins, led by Robespierre who wanted the king out of the picture entirely where the radicals of the Assembly. Whereas the Girondins took a more moderate approach to the monarchy. This led to the rift in the assembly, which caused the Girondins to lose power. Austria and Hungary were at war with France for most of the National Assembly s lifespan, and the rage of the people when the war was going badly started the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Erwc, Period 2 . 12 February Shawn Love Mrs. Echols ERWC, Period 2 12 February 2017 The Advancements in Architecture The good building is not one that hurts the landscape, but one which makes the landscape more beautiful than it was before the building was built (Frank Lloyd Wright). Throughout the centuries, architecture has fascinated everyone. History is inscribed in buildings and they can express the political and economic power of a nation. Although time has gone by, buildings have not. You can still idolize ancient Egyptian and Greek architecture and see how the events that occurred at that time influenced them. Although buildings from as far as the ancient times are still standing strong today, they had few materials to work with and they weren t as strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Previously, metals weren t in sufficient quantities and in consistent enough quality. This meant that buildings were limited to materials found in nature, such as stone, clay, timber, limestone, and concrete. However, not only did the Industrial Revolution change the world, but it also changed architecture. During this century, the worldwide production of iron was 825,000 tons, and by 1900, it rose up to nearly 50 times more. The most commonly used form of iron was steel, which was not only stronger and versatile, but was also tensile and had compressive strength greater than any other material previously used before. Although steel allowed architects to design much taller buildings with a lot more interior space, there was one major flaw that prevented architects from doing so. To cement a new friendship, especially between foreigners or persons of a different social world, a spark with which both were secretly charged must fly from person to person, and cut across the accidents of place and time (Elisha Graves Otis). Elevators have been known to exist since the Roman era. They were created with a basic pulley system that were operated by either humans, animals, or water power. For example, Rome s Coliseum had 12 elevators that hoisted up the gladiators and wild animals from one stage floor to the next. In England, elevators were powered by a steam machine or a hydraulic pump and were used to bring up the monarch s food more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The SEC also charged the audit firm and six partners for their roles in the accounting violations. Visit the SEC s website (www.sec.gov) and search the link to Litigation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, accounting standards require that Bally recognize initiation fee revenue over the entire membership life. This means that for members who maintained their memberships beyond the financing period, or initial period of membership, Bally was required to defer initiation fee revenue and recognize it over the estimated membership life, not over the term of the initial period of membership. However, Bally prematurely recognized its members initiation fee revenue over a period that was not only shorter than the estimated membership life, but in most instances even shorter than the initial period of membership. Personal Training Services: In addition to selling health club memberships, Bally also sold personal training services (i.e., exercise sessions with personal trainers). • 9. Compare And Contrast The End Of History And Fukuyama The end of the Cold War was not just a politically significant event but also an important intellectual milestone, where academics, researchers and intellectuals examined the consequences that its end would concur. Fukuyama s The End of History and Huntington s Clash of Civilizations are two of such explorations but contrast each other significantly. Fukuyama predicts a future of peace, or minimal conflict, amidst the spread of Western liberal democracy, a system of government he believes has been actualized as perfect in Hegel s realm of consciousness whereas Huntington argues that conflict will stem from civilizational differences, owing to the rise in civilization consciousness. I will start my essay by briefly summarizing the main arguments of each article, after which I will attempt to critique each one before drawing comparisons between the two. EMB separates fecal coliforms that are produced through carbohydrates that are fermentable, such as sucrose and lactose. The different fecal coliforms represent the differential factor of this test, while the selective factor selects against gram positive organisms. Lactose fermenters appear purple, pink, blue, and black colonies, while non lactose fermenters appear clear to light orange. This occurs because Eosin Y and methylene indicators react at low pH forming the purple precipitate. The selectivity for halophiles refers to a bacterium s ability to grow in a salt environment. The media differentiated between mannitol fermenters and non fermenters. The yellow agar meant that the bacterium was a fermenter, whereas no color change meant that the bacterium was not a fermenter. In Table 1, the test observed growth of colonies and a pink agar. The growth indicated that the bacterium represented a halophilic nature, while the pink agar indicated no fermentation of mannitol. Research discovered that E. coli had no growth of colonies and no change in media. Therefore, E. coli was ruled out. Also, B. megaterium and E. faecalis were discovered to have yellow medias from being able to ferment mannitol. However, in this lab, the unknown bacterium did not ferment mannitol. As a result, all the potential bacteria did not fit the expected results, so this test did not work. In the end, category IV tests did not represent helpful information that would help identify the unknown bacterium, since the bacterium indicated different observations compared to expected observations for eosin methylene blue agar and mannitol salts agar. A possible source of error of these two tests could have been that the bacterium was contaminated due to improper inoculation techniques, such as not using a loop that was completely ... Art equals something that is beautiful then it is true and leads the person experiencing it, to the good. While this may be the classical definition of art it is not quite accurate. To think that something is true and good just because it is beautiful is not right. There are three critiques of this definition which define art in a different light. The study by Awh (2010) reports that, These injuries are often associated with those of the flexor pronator muscle tendon unit, a stabilizer at the medial elbow. Acute tears of the anterior bundle of the UCL can be seen on high quality MR images. Edema, abnormal laxity, and discontinuity of the ligament are all signs of UCL disruption. Partial tears can be diagnosed with edema and focal areas of discontinuity with residual intact fibers. It refers to people who act one way, but are not really what they seem like. In Act 1, Scene 1, Line 12, the witches had invoked the words Fair is foul and foul is fair. That is foreshadowing Macbeth s evil judgments that are yet to happen. There was also irony in how King Duncan had stated This castle hath a pleasant seat, in Act 1, Scene 6, Line 1, upon arriving at the Macbeth s house for a banquet, unaware that Macbeth and Lady Macbeth were actually planning his murder. To begin with, the Black Death s significance should be looked at, including its victims, the rural and urban population, and recovery in the 1350s. Also, we have to look at the impact of later plagues, and the age and gender specificity of them. However, we should also look at other factors that affect the population, such as fertility and change in marriage trends. The over population meant that more food had to be produced in order to sustain the population, however, economic changes and changes in climate caused bad harvests and famine. Unsurprisingly, there was a disproportionate rise of mortality among the village poor in times of famine. Falling temperatures caused severe harvest failures between 1315 and 1322, with the famine of 1315 to 1317 being called The Great Famine which is said to have killed 10 to 15% of the population. With so many people living on the edge, the succession of bad harvests were bound to have a catastrophic affect. A dearth of food encouraged the already high death rate and also affected the birth rate as it discouraged fewer marriages and children, and we have already seen the effects this had on the population after the plague. On the Winchester manors heriot payers during the famine of 1315 to 1317 averaged at 142 annually, compared with 48 in the worst years of the 1270s. Ieuan Gethin described the plague in Wales as being a rootless phantom which has no mercy but the famines introduced an era of high mortality which lasted until the Black Death, thus showing continuity in population decline. The Postan theory suggests that the plague did not start the downturn, but the damage had already been done before the plague, and the failure to repair the damage had been one of the causes for the delayed recovery. For instance the already high death rates due to famine made the Black Death merely a catalyst to decline. However, the trend is different all over the country, as Razi found for Halesowen. For this reason, the Range Rover is the perfect commodity to exemplify a Hollywood myth. A myth as Roland Barthes describes in Mythologies, is a kind of speech, in which the history of an object is distorted to signify a new modern history that feels completely natural to modern society. The Range Rover has been appropriated into Hollywood by celebrities and is predominantly owned by upper class celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Jay Z and David Beckham. This vehicle, which was was originally used in the military and for off roading terrain has had it s history drained and filled with a new history that signifies a much different myth than it used to. In this essay, I will argue that the myth of the Range Rover signifies a prestigious and powerful vehicle, designed with royalty and privilege as it is made specifically for the celebrities and the famous upper class personalities of Hollywood. The Range Rover s appearance has an authoritative god like presence caused by the size of the vehicle. It is a large vehicle, but mostly in it s height as it is not very wide and appears significantly slim. Here are 2 of which they are talking about: (a) A person s expectation to enjoy life with the help of organs belonging to others is valid, and(b) the breach of a donor s bodily integrity and the consequent harms are permissible. Analysis Of David Hanson s Carnage And Culture Essay Question2: In Carnage and Culture, Victor David Hanson expressed a slanted perspective about the crucial battles in western history in order to support his theory that western militaristic strategies are superior to alternative forms of warfare. He fostered his sentiments by explaining how specific battle tactics can unify or divide a nation in a matter of moments. However, his reference to the concept that western warriors continuously triumph in war, is expressed in a manner that does not fully evaluate both perspectives of the conflict. Hanson alluded to his message behind Carnage and Culture in his thesis: A sense of personal freedom, superior discipline, matchless weapons, egalitarian camaraderie, individual initiative, constant tactical adaptations, and flexibility, preference for shock battle of heavy infantry were themselves the murderous dividend of Hellenic culture at large ... Yet for the past 2,500 years even in the Dark Ages, well before the Military Revolution, and not simply as a result of the Renaissance, the European discovery of the Americas, or the Industrial Revolution there has been a peculiar practice of Western warfare, a common foundation and continual way of fighting, that has made Europeans the most deadly soldiers the history of civilizations. (Hanson 5 6) Although Hanson is able to give an overview of valuable battles that express western confidence and reflect the west s brutal military tactics that, his analysis of the war does not ... • 34. Teotihuacan Textual Analysis Often when studying history we encounter a paradigm of thinking that explicitly emphasizes the importance of written history above all else. In art history however, we are struck with the issue of navigating this paradigm in a field of study that sometimes only has visual culture for us to reference. Because of this, it often becomes a challenge to incorporate this visual evidence with a written record, whether it be another culture s record or a written record that isn t inherently written . And when it comes to examining the visual culture of Post Classic Mexico, both of these are the case. With Mixtec and Aztec codices made entirely of pictographs and glyphs, we are forced to consider colonial hybrid documents in addition to these glyphs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most prominent examples of this is the debate surrounding the Great Goddess of Teotihuacan which can be seen in Figure 2. With a lack of textual evidence to help understand this deity s gender or potential role in Teotihuacan culture, we as historians are forced to make assumptions often relying on modern, Western stereotypes of femininity and masculinity (Mandell, 29). As seen in Elisa C. Mandell s article A New Analysis of the Gender Attribution of the Great Goddess of Teotihuacan from Ancient Mesoamerica, the depiction of the Great Goddess is complicated due to a lack of obvious primary or secondary sexual organs (Mandell, 30). Because of this, analysis of the deity s gender must be based upon more subjective elements such as clothing and ceremonial dress. However, unlike the Aztec, we have no textual evidence like codices or colonial hybrid documents to designate gendered clothing or depictions in Teotihuacan culture. We cannot even assume the deity s gender from Post classic text as it can easily be misinterpreted like the initial theory that the Great Goddess represents the rain god Tlaloc. Whereas in the post classic period we can look at at statue of Coatlicue and connect her skirt of snakes to the textual depiction of her image, we have no basis of comparison to identify or gender the Great Goddess. And while Mendell s argument for the female gender of the Great Goddess remains sound, she is forced to draw from a variety of complex representations of Teotihuacan art and iconography such as sculpture, bowls, and murals that lack a direct translation and association which inherently leaves room ... • 35. Gender Roles And Social Cognitive Theory Women model their behavior after the female protagonists they see in films because they see them being successful in love and wish for the same. Women modeling this behavior are an example of social cognitive theory. In the 1980s, this theory was expanded by film theorists who drew from different fields and since then many studies have been conducted to see how films influence society (Nannicelli). Stereotypes in film influences society in the ways it portrays romance, explained by social cognitive theory; movies give a false illusion for women to believe and unrealistic expectations of men and relationships. The social cognitive theory suggests that people who watch romantic comedies glean some understanding from the films by observing the actors behavior and take away from it how they should behave in their own relationships. Due to the unrealistic modeling of behavior that the media gives society, following this example cannot possibly bring a desirable outcome. Hollywood s goal is to entertain their viewers and make them fall in love with the story and characters, but viewers often don t realize this and after watching a romantic movie have a longing for fairy tale love. Hollywood has created an unrealistic and unattainable love. Therefore, when women model their ideals for a relationship off of the romantic comedy genre, they are highly disappointed, ultimately causing themselves to once again go back to living vicariously through the characters (Green). • 37. The Importance Of Censorship Of Music Music is a form of art. An art that has been around ever since the beginning of time. It is arguably considered to be the universal language of this world. Music is what connects the hearts and feelings of one another regardless of race, color, and religious backgrounds. Art is used to express oneself. It also has the power to motivate and influence others. Throughout the years, music has evolved and transformed in many ways. However, there are restrictions in today s music, otherwise known as, censorships. There is a large crisis occurring regarding these censorships. This argument consists of two possible stances: one, supporting the continuation of the censorship of music, and two, eliminating the status quo of censorships in the music industry. There have been countless debates and arguments regarding the issues of censorship since 1927 when the U.S. Congress passed the Radio Act (The History). The time has come for the censored in today s music to be disable. The government should release their grip on the censorship of music for the following reasons: censorship restricts an artist s ability to convey his or her message toward the listeners, it limits an artist s capacity for creativity, and it diminishes the audience s appreciation of the content in the music. First of all, the concept of censorships severely limits an artist s ability to fully express his or herself through the art of music. Musicians typically sing about their values and issues. These sanctions can technologically deprive a nation of most developments. If a nation is technologically deprived, it cannot compete with other countries due to lack of sufficient knowledge. It also keeps its citizens enclosed in a theoretical bubble, disconnecting them from the rest of the world. This is problematic for Burma s government, a nation cannot advance into the future, if its people are still affixed, lingering to the past.
