The Midnight Ride Analysis
The Midnight Ride That Wasn t Paul Revere s contributions to the colonial effort before and during
the American Revolution were so important that without them the history of the United States could
be very different today. As a member of the Sons of Liberty and founder of the Mechanics , Revere
was successful employing propaganda, code and cipher, and an early warning system to aid colonists
in the defeat of the British. However, it is Paul Revere s midnight ride, warning of the British advance
on Lexington and Concord, that he is most remembered for. And Revere s contributions as the first
intelligence operative supported the success of the colonists before and during the American
Revolution. But what if Paul Revere never took that midnight ride? How would the lack of
intelligence resources affect the result of the first battle of the American Revolution? The paper will
examine how the outcome of the American Revolution would have changed without Paul Revere s
actions and contributions of intelligence and intelligence assets.
The Battle of Lexington and Concord On the night of 18 April 1775, hundreds of British troops set off
from Boston toward Concord, Massachusetts, to seize weapons and ammunition stockpiled by
American colonists. Early the next morning, an advance guard of nearly 240 British soldiers reached
Lexington. Paul Revere s famous ride ahead of the British departure from Boston alerted a group of
nearly 70 Minutemen along the route from Lexington through to Concord. When the British finally
arrived the Minutemen were waiting and prepared. In the midst of all the confusion and commotion,
someone suddenly fired a shot it s uncertain which side and a melee ensued. When the brief clash
ended, eight Americans lay dead and at least an equal amount were injured, while one redcoat was
wounded. The British continued on to nearby Concord, where that same day they encountered armed
resistance from a group of patriots at the town s North Bridge. Gunfire was exchanged, leaving two
colonists and three redcoats dead. Afterward, the British retreated back to Boston, skirmishing with
colonial militiamen along the way and suffering a number of casualties. The Revolutionary War had
begun. But how different

To the extent it affects them varies on the company. The products manufactured by companies can
become non useful or not as in demand as they were before. The lack of productivity is another reason
for downsizing. A last few deciding factors are the government deregulating certain industries and
excessive overhead costs. Based on a 1997 survey by the American Management Association, the
most often claimed reasons for downsizing are organizational restructuring, business downturn, and
reengineering of business processes. However, downsizing basically comes down to one issue that all
of these factors stem from, money. When a company does not have any money or not enough, it
causes problems in the company. In Downsizing Without Disaster, Lynn Tylczak states that everything
takes money, and without it a company cannot survive (4 7).
A corporation needs to have a strategic plan in place in order for them to be able to implement a
downsizing. There are many pros and cons to downsizing and it has a ripple effect on everyone in the
corporation. Depending on the planning of the downsizing, one of the big issues to decide on is how to
choose who will be terminated. For example, do you go by seniority, a percentage from all
departments, an entire department, or by job level or position? These are major options that need to be
addressed before anything happens. Most corporations today exist less for the well being of employees

Japanese-American Relocation Camps
During world war 2 Japanese Americans were forced out of their homes and put in relocation camps
around the country. Many aspects of their lives were changed such as school, living conditions, and
even their work. Many of these Japanese Americans were relocated to Rohwer relocation camp in
Arkansas. When they were taken to Rohwer, one of two the two relocation camps in Arkansas, they
had to adjust to the residential blocks. These blocks consisted of 12 barracks, a recreation building, a

quarters were very crowded, so diseases spread easily and quickly through the camp. Several people
even died from these illnesses ( Rohwer ). Several people

Compare and Contrast Person Centred with Psychodynamic Essay
When comparing and contrasting the differences in the three approaches, I will review the relationship
between client and counsellor. I will attempt to discover how the relationship is formed and how it is
maintained during the therapeutic process. Once this has been established, I will then look at how the
changes occur in the therapeutic relationship and which techniques will be used. I will compare and
contrast the approaches of Carl Rogers, Sigmund Freud and Albert Ellis. I will look at how their
theories have impacted on the counselling processes in modern times and throughout history. In the
humanistic approach in counselling there is a vital importance that the core conditions between client

The Baseline Theory, And Game Theory
by Jon Von Neumann, although that development involved a number of many scholars who thought
collectively way back in the 1950s (Hart, 2015). The model has further been taken global with such
figures like Jean Tirole, who received global attention for the Nobel Memorial Prize award in 2011.
The baseline theory, and game theory are applicable in business contexts as it did for Glasberg et al
(2014) research case study. For the problem statement given above, game theory stands high
applicable chances based on the idea that any business has to weigh the risks involved before
considering a particular strategy (Blonski Spagnolo, 2015). Cloud computing is part of the
technologies seen important in the contemporary business context. This, however, is accompanied by
many risks and any organization has to determine such risks, and identify who loses and who gains in
the undertaken risk.
Envisioned Study3
The envisioned study is based on the same idea. For example, if the cloud computing technology
violates the health care restrictions, then the organization will lose in the process. With relevant
application of risk management strategies, it is possible to handle the risk in the most appropriate way
such that whoever gains ends up gaining little. Apparently, Glasberg and his colleagues developed the
idea of crisis management such that businesses may end up incurring little or no losses in case the risk
takes a negative course (Blonski Spagnolo, 2015). The health care system is

How Do Magazine Advertisements Affect Women
Women are the main targets in magazine advertisements; they take advantage and manipulate the
female beauty and their bodies by making it overrated. The societies expectation of women have

Skinner s View On Psychology And The Contrasting Views Of...
Introduction
This essay will explore B. F. Skinner s view on the focus of psychology and the contrasting view of
the mentalists. It will then go on to consider the benefits of Skinners way of seeing psychology and
thus how he was able to turn psychology into a science with measurable outcomes and bring evidence
into a subject that had become subjective and unquantifiable.
Purpose of Psychology
Skinner stated that the purpose of psychology should be the study of behaviour. He had come to this
conclusion whilst performing studies on rats. (Skinner, 1938).
Mentatlistic approach
Prior to skinner the pervading view of behaviour within psychology was concerned with thoughts and
inner feelings that were thought to directly cause behaviour.(Cooper, Heron, Heward, 2007)
Skinner thought that the study of psychology had remained unchanged for centauries and that the
subject had made virtually no progress.(Skinner, 1973)
He believed that behaviour should be studied in a scientific way rather than an introspective way.
Natural Science
Behaviour Psychology or Biology D M (1)
(Blackman, 1991) puts the case forward that the study of behaviour should come under the subject of
biology rather than psychology on the grounds that behaviour occurs naturally when consequences are
applied. Skinner had said a similar thing himself in (1963) when he considered the choice of the
placement of behaviour in the scheme of things. He said that if the mind was going to be the subject

Experiential And Themes Of The Community In William Butler...
The Tower is a collection of twenty one poems published in 1928 by William Butler Yeats s.
Recognised as one of the poet s most renowned publications, the collection secured the poets
reputation as a major poet who addressed in rather dramatic terms a considerable amount of central
experiences of the twentieth century. His work reflects a profound consciousness that he was living
through a period of evident universal change.i Events in the poet s personal life as well as the public
realm play a crucial role in The Tower. Within the collection, Yeats s portrays the eminent distinction
between experiential events as well as ideas of nation and community. This is evident through the way

The poem recalls the speakers recognition with the fool who believes that life can be winded
backwards as well as forwards. The poet brilliantly mediates between experiential and universal
within the work, evident once again through his choice of words. In the early lines of the poem, the
poet refers to the fool. By the end of the poem, it is evident that the poet refers to himself when he
uses the pronoun I in stating that he thinks that he may find a faithful love. His ability to appeal to the
wider community can also be seen in the poem All Souls Night. While the poet conveys a rather
personal recollection in this work, the universal appeal is evident in its questioning of life after death.
Within All Souls Night, the poet expresses his own beliefs about Dublin. He celebrates alone, but
finally finds a place for the dead in his universe, thereby solving to some extent, the problem of
whether there is in fact life after death. While it deals with themes that are universal, there is also a
haunted sense that the speaker knows something that the reader

customers. Although the company introduced the service almost at the same time as other telecom
operators in Europe, the number of users in others countries is significantly higher (28% in Slovenia,

Directly following the social protocol, many think that orthodox is a religion that died out long time

Orthodox churches have followed strict rules and scriptures that have been passed down from

Platelets Play a Large Role in Tissue Regeneration and...
Unlike other blood cells, platelets are small anucleate structures derived from marrow megakaryocytes
and thought for almost a century to possess solely hemostatic potentials. Platelets, however, play a
much wider role in tissue regeneration and repair and interact intimately with tumor cells.
On one hand, tumor cells induce platelet aggregation [TCIPA] known to act as the trigger of cancer
associated thrombosis and on the other, recruited to the tumor microenvironment platelets interact
directly with tumor cells favoring their proliferation and indirectly through the release of a wide
palette of growth factors, angiogenic and mitogenic proteins. The role of platelets is not only confined
to the primary tumor site. They escort tumor cells helping their intravasation, vascular migration and
extravasation to the tissues forming distant metastasis.
As expected, non specific or specific inhibition of platelets and their contents represents an attractive
approach in the fight against cancer.
The current review illustrates the role played by the platelets at primary tumor sites and in the various
stages of the metastatic process.

Megacities In The 19th Century
The term megacities is a term from recent years but the phenomenon of big cities is not new at all. The
first cities in human history were built on the plains of Mesopotamia between 4000 and 3000 BC.
Rome was the first city to reach a million inhabitants in about 5 BC. This was two to three times
higher than any other previous city. After Rome, London was in 1800 AD the second city with a
million inhabitants and in the 19th century North America followed (Hall, 2010).
The cities that lasted the longest share some same characteristics. According to archaeological and
historical research, settlements that lasted the longest did not grow the most rapidly or had the highest
standard of living. The inhabitants managed their interactions with the land they lived in such a way
that their technologies did not outstrip the ecosystems on which they drew (Sorensen, 2010). The

Examples Of Existentialism In American Beauty

Existentialism in American Beauty The 1999 film, American Beauty starring Kevin Spacey and
Annette Bening, follows the existential crisis of a middle aged suburban father and husband as he
becomes attracted to one of his daughter s best friends. After developing said attraction, Spacey s
character, Lester Burnham, becomes conscientious of his life and begins making a series of decisions
and taking actions that ultimately result in his death. The angst ridden film explores not only the
alienation of its protagonist from his society, but also showcases each member of the Burnham family
as agents of materialism and loneliness in their quest to achieve real happiness. The Burnham family

The bleakness of Sisyphus punishment is due to its inherent meaninglessness, for despite his efforts,
the task has no purpose. This parallels to Lester s life prior to his acquisition of responsibility. Prior to
attempting to enact change in his life, the protagonist continues his monotonous daily routine at his
boring desk job, listening to the same soundtrack nightly at dinner, and overall subservience to those
around him: Both my wife and daughter think I m this gigantic loser and they re right, I have lost
something. I m not exactly sure what it is but I know I didn t always feel this...sedated. His rebirth to
life only begins upon meeting Angela Hayes, his daughter s seductive best friend, to which he
develops a sexual attraction. After meeting Angela, he begins to alter his life dramatically through
quitting his job, buying a car he always dreamed of having and exercising in order to perpetuate a
level of success and masculinity to the teenager. In the final scenes of the film, when Angela finally
bares her innocence and insecurity to Lester, he finally sees true reality for the first time in the form of
real emotion. In the last seconds of his life he is able to appreciate life and feel more alive than he has
throughout the entirety of the film. He is no longer lonely and is cognizant of his purpose in life: being
a father, husband, and making the choices he deems fit for his existence in order to perpetuate his view

The Influence Of William Herschel s Telescope
Kathleen Lundeen, an English professor at Western Washington University, offers a view of William
Herschel s creation of the largest telescope (for at least fifty years), and how the public received this
invention. Lundeen explains that Herschel was as renowned as a maker of telescopes as he was as an
astronomer, and he oversaw the construction of several hundred instruments, which were sold in
England and on the continent (2). Herschel, his sister, and his son, all shared an interest in astronomy;
and all of which made numerous contributions to the study of the sky (O Connor Robertson 1999).
Despite Herschel s success as an astronomer and inventor, the public and his peers managed to find
significant flaws with his telescope and designs. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Herschel had a lot of success with his forty foot telescope, he himself was aware of its
limitations and flaws. He knew that moving the massive scope was not really feasible, which made
looking at different parts of the sky a challenge. Also, the material the telescope was made of was not
ideal. The telescope s mirror was very thick, and tarnishing became an issue, especially because of the
amount of copper. Condensation would also occur, which not only affected the visibility, but also
accelerated the tarnishing (Lundeen 9). Despite the flaws, I think people tend to forget just how
massive this telescope was, and how revolutionary it should be considered, even just as an example of

not miss a moment in this movie because it would be amazing and it was. Every single minute was
worth it. I must say it is highly entertaining which distracts the audience from thinking about wanting

The US has three main information resources, which collect statistics regarding the employment status

For instance, the U.S Census Bureau, the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), and FBI information
gathering programs have varied purposes, respondent universes, data definitions, and information
collection approaches (Banks, Hendrix, Hickman, Kycklhahn, 2016). According to the U.S.

trends in staffing allocation. The interviews were undertaken among practitioners drawn from 20
varied agencies in America and a national focus group, which included 21 staffing professionals
(Wilson Weiss, 2014). The article also examined the weaknesses and strengths pertinent to alternative
techniques to determine staffing needs and to manage demand for workload while, at the same time,
minimizing usage of sworn officers. They concluded that effective and efficient approaches consider
performance and workload when staffing.
2.2 Police Staffing and the Approaches Used 2.2.1 Police staffing. According to Reaves (2012), in
September the year 2008, the federal organizations recruited close to120, 000 law enforcement

Ideally, this was an equivalent of having 40 police officers against 100,000 citizens. As such, the
number of officers at the federal level in America augmented by nearly 15% representing 15,000 from
2004 through 2008 (Reaves, 2012). In addition, Reaves (2012) ascertains that the federal
organizations recruited about 1,600 officers in 2008, particularly in Puerto Rico. Notably, the US has

The Conflict Of The Congo
In the year 1876, King Leopold II of Belgium began to display an interest in the civilization mission in
Africa. The documents on European Imperialism provide evidence for how the individuals in the
Congo are being exploited for European benefit, under the profit making aim of King Leopold II.
European brutality in the Congo was the logical result of the European desire to implement proper
civilization in the Congo, albeit through a lack of cultural understanding and compassion towards the
people of Congo. First, the document Selections from the 1885 Berlin Act (Treaty) was an outline to
the European people that King Leopold II had good intentions for his mission in the Congo. However,
it depicted the contradiction of what his true intentions were and what had actually occurred. King
Leopold outlined six Declarations for what he desired to change for the Congo. Leopold stated, for
instance, his desire to create a change in the freedom of trade for the people of the Congo, as well the
creation of a Declaration relative to the slave trade, and the operations by sea or land which furnish
slaves to that trade. These Declarations relate to the thesis of how the Europeans were directed in a
way to think it was logical to create a change in the significant issues in the Congo. The Europeans
were lead to believe these six Declarations would benefit the civilization of the Congo, by doing no
harm. In actual fact. Leopold fails to point out how he intends to follow

European perception of suicide shaped the ways in which slave traders and surgeons responded to

a short story that deals with race. While Philomena, a black woman, is playing the piano with her band

Philomena becomes angry and confused and starts thinking of the things she would have said to Beth.

China Unbalanced Essay
CASE STUDY
CHINA UNBALANCED
In this case study, we will attempt to answer what measures China took in preparation for acceptance
into the WTO and how it adjusted to its eventual admittance in December of 2001. We will also
review some of the problems associated with China s economic growth strategy.
We will begin our analysis of these questions by examining China s economy at the time of Deng
Xiaoping s accession to power in 1978 and the economic growth strategy he and his successor
implemented which ultimately led China to ascension into the WTO. We will then review various
conditions imposed upon China by the WTO and how China reacted to those changes and to what

. Xiaoping implemented significant change going from a centrally planned economy run by the state,
towards a private entrepreneur market based economy. This transition to a new type of socialist
thinking, known as the socialist market economy, proved highly successful as it allowed China to
move from a nation in poverty ruled by a single person to the second largest economy in the world. A
more sudden or abrupt change could have easily resulted in the fall of China s economy, similar to
what certain European countries experienced in 1991 at the end of the cold war between the super
powers.
One of the founding principles of a free market system is to give individuals freedom of choice in how
they invest their assets, choose what to consume, improve their knowledge and skills, choose how
they will use their income and invest their wealth or assets as they see fit. Xiaoping began his growth
strategy by allowing farmers to sell some of their output on the black market with a view of increasing
demand, which in turn gave farmers incentive to produce more and increased production surplus. By
doing this, not only did the government increase its production surplus, but it also allowed its
impoverished citizens easier access to fruit, meat and vegetables and reduced the country s reliance on
food imports to sustain its large population This strategy was an indirect way of subjecting people to
competition

Menstruation History
During menstruation throughout history, the progression of menstrual products has subjugated women
to unimaginable methods. In ancient Egypt, women used softened papyrus tampons, while the Greeks
utilized lint wrapped around small pieces of wood, and the Romans wore pads and tampons made of
soft wool. Considered impure in the Jewish culture during biblical times, the proclivity of physically
separating women from men during menstruation is habitual, as well as any object they touched or sat
on. These fads were perpetuated in Europe in the 1800s. With a more natural approach, women during
this period allowed their menstruation to bleed into their clothing. Creatively, women used homemade
pads in America, during the 1900s, similar to baby diapers: Others wore menstrual pad belts secured

Diction, Imagery, and, Figurative Language in Nighttime...
The poem Nighttime Fires by Regina Barecca explains the speaker s complex view of her father. The
speaker uses imagery to describe her father s strange behaviours after losing his job. Figurative
language is used strategically to explain the memories of this young girl s strange adventures. The
diction in this poem is also used very well helping us to understand why these nighttime fires left such
a lasting impact on this grown woman from when she was only five years old. All of these things are
very important to the progress of the poem and the engagement of the reader. The diction in the poem
is very important, as it would be in any poem, but Barecca chooses her words very nicely to create the

The speaker uses imagery repeatedly in this poem so we always know exactly what is happening. we
drove fast toward smoke is said in line 4 which seems really basic but the basics are really import to
the poem because any little descriptive words shape a poem and that is just what Barecca is doing
here. In lines 17 and 18 the speaker describes her father s smile my father smiled a smile from a
secret, brittle heart she says he smiles from a secret brittle heart when he sees a Cadillac in a driveway
which makes the reader think of a malicious smile on the fathers face. The malicious smile in relation
to the Cadillacs and the fact that he likes to see fires in rich neighbourhoods also helps us come to the
conclusion that he finds pleasure in seeing houses of upper class citizens burn, because he is less
fortunate in losing his job, which is a key part to the poem. Another aspect to this poem that is very
important would be the figurative language. The author uses a lot of similes and metaphors throughout
further illustrate this father s ridiculous ways. The speaker uses the simile snaked like dragons to
describe the fire engines, this was a good choice in comparison because when you think of a dragon
you automatically think of bright fires and then when you continue on the thought you think of their

The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society By Jonathan Kozol
As soon as humans walked the earth, since the beginnings of time, learning was the most vital in order
to survive. This was, and still is today, the most important part of adaptation, problem solving, and
creation of life itself. Without it, our society would never move forward and humanity would never
advance. Undeniably, education is the start of everything in life itself meaning that it continuously
surrounds every aspect of life. In both Frederick Douglass s essay, Learning to Read and Jonathan
Kozol s essay, The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society they both share different consequential
examples dealing with illiteracy. Douglass focuses on his quest to becoming literate while facing the
hardships of battling slavery. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He points out that the uneducated have many restrictions on their lives as well as any form of power
(257). Furthermore, reflecting back to how the inability to read can have consequences that do not
give illiterates a chance to obtain their rights. Another important way of life is, not only freedom, but
identity and self. Kozol emphasizes this concept throughout his essay by stating that they do not know
the true world around them (261). In relaying that, Not knowing the world that lies concealed behind
those words is a more terrifying feeling...Even the hard, cold stars within the firmament above one s
head begin to mock the possibilities for self location (Kozol 261). The stigmas, fears, and poverty can
all be prevented from education. As soon as children become of age, they begin to read and write.
Unfortunately, some teachers may not let students believe they are worthy of an education (Kozol
262). Nonetheless, spreading the importance of education is vital for a society. Equally important,
Douglass mentions when he was finally learning to read how it opened a new world for him with
freedom. He began to understand the world from a different point of view, he wrote, Freedom now
appeared, to disappear no more forever. It was heard in every sound, and seen in every thing. It was
ever present to torment me with a sense of my wretched condition (Douglass 129). By being able to

This was infuriating for the non white and non Europeans. This was called the Immigration

How Did Mexican Culture Influence Their Arts During The...
During the time of post revolution in the 1920 s, Mexico underwent an enormous transformation from
a mostly rural society to a largely industrialized and modern society. The various opinions of the
Mexican people and their modernized culture can be put into perspective by the artistic expression of
three famous artist Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueiros. They began a
movement with wall paintings that focused on the political and social conditions in Mexico during the
1920 s and gave an in depth story of their point of view through their art. This essay will discuss a
moderate overview of the impacts and influences of their art during the 1920 s.
The Mexican Revolution began in 1910 with a political revolt against the tyrannical president Porfirio
Diaz. The civil war was led by a number of charismatic individuals whose personal political agendas
often determined the path of the decade long revolution. Accompanied by a group of intellectual
radicals, political leaders began to discuss a noticeable movement inspired by the revolution. In the

project commissioned numerous artists from across the country, the influence and prominence of
Orozco, Rivera, and Siqueiros was so great that their work became the face of the movement. Each

Professional nurses are as important, in achieving success, as any other component within the
healthcare sector. For instance, a professional nurse typically spends more time in direct contact with
patients than a physician does (Hendrich et al., 2008). Nevertheless, media sources have always
painted the picture of a nurse in various forms. Although nurses are sometimes perceived as life savers
and angels of mercy, the profession is often sexualized, stereotyped, and undermined in its importance

work shifts, they embark on several fun activities in an attempt to blow off some steam. They

break ups almost ensue. For instance, Chris starts dating a girl he works with and faces potential
heartbreak toward the end. Clash of personalities was never going to be left out too. Tyrice, for
example, feels ignored by other girls and wants to quit altogether. In general, the Scrubbing In is likely
intended for an audience of young nursing aspirants who wish to become professional nurses.
This portrayal gives me negative impression about nursing. Although Scrubbing In purports to
promote nursing profession, it fails to do so accurately. In spite of the initial portrayal of nurses as
hardworking life savers, the show focuses heavily on the nature of their parties, personal lives, and
volatile arguments. These events happen after working hours and there is clearly little or no interest in
the important work these nurses do in the hospital. Painting the image of nurses as

Observation Of A Safe Environment
1. Safe Environment:
For the first part of my observation I noticed that the environment was not in the best shape that it
could be, so I asked the program supervisor John why the environment looked like it was under repair
and he explained that the whole school was under construction. Through my observation I did notice
that for the most part the environment was safe, but it did have major hazards that concerned me. The
environment had safe ratios, for example, in the specific class that I observed there was seven infants
and two adults the caretakes informed me that it is regularly eight infants in the classroom four infants
per adult, but a child was out sick with the flu. In addition, I noticed that in the front part of the
classroom where the door entry and fire extinguisher are located there was a fire and emergency plan
that includes emergency information and a plan to get the infants to safety. The classroom also had
emergency numbers posted by the phone area and I was told that all emergency cards were stored in a
file card holder that is easy to access. Furthermore, throughout my observation I noticed that children
could take risk opportunities like running around, climbing, and playing in tent areas without injury
and with constant supervision. The classroom I observed was accepting of constant interactions, but
they always made it clear to the children that it was not appropriate to hurt one another. However,
although the program had many good qualities that

Amin Maalouf Utilizes Language and Religion in Leo...
Amin Maalouf unlike many writers of his era portrayed an adventure of a unique protagonist striving
to find a significant meaning within his life. Maaloufs Book 1 clearly conveys the child hood of
Hasan, in other words, Leo Africanus and how he perceived the events that took place which, as one
could determine, shaped his life. Maalouf conveys this in such a unique manner, with literary devices
which exalt the principle of cultural patriotism. This is done in such a way that further intentions can
be extricated such as the defiance of typical stereotypes. From years upon years, their have been
numerous accounts on which the Muslim culture has been accused of violating human rights, abusing
ethical principles and even Terrorism through a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From this book, the reader becomes aware about the political situation that had overcome Granada
which determined the fate of its Muslims. Similarly today, despite the technical differences the central
conflict is evident, and this territorial necessitate can be seen today in Middle Eastern countries such
as Iraq and Iran. Due to this chronological structure, one can understand that despite him not mentally
being fully aware, he has an important role to play. We see how the Muhammad put a certain pressure
on Selma to give birth to a male; Do not disappoint me... This is device is extremely important
however would not be significant if it were not due to the use of frame stories. Frame stories are an
effective way of conveying the past when the protagonist was not present to elucidate the story
himself. The fact that the words may not be exactly the same, might be a factor which further shapes
Hasan s views. Whilst reading frame stories, the reader is left in suspense with a few questions that
may arise. Is this how Hasan interprets the teachings? Are these actually the exact words? How doe
she remember all of this? Throughout book 1the reader understands how Maalouf recognizes this with
Hasan s adventures with Khali; I would have wished to report each one of his words, but my memory
is short and my eloquence feeble, so that many of the illuminations of his story will never, alas, appear
in any book. Despite this limited omniscience, this

  • 2. The Midnight Ride Analysis The Midnight Ride That Wasn t Paul Revere s contributions to the colonial effort before and during the American Revolution were so important that without them the history of the United States could be very different today. As a member of the Sons of Liberty and founder of the Mechanics , Revere was successful employing propaganda, code and cipher, and an early warning system to aid colonists in the defeat of the British. However, it is Paul Revere s midnight ride, warning of the British advance on Lexington and Concord, that he is most remembered for. And Revere s contributions as the first intelligence operative supported the success of the colonists before and during the American Revolution. But what if Paul Revere never took that midnight ride? How would the lack of intelligence resources affect the result of the first battle of the American Revolution? The paper will examine how the outcome of the American Revolution would have changed without Paul Revere s actions and contributions of intelligence and intelligence assets. The Battle of Lexington and Concord On the night of 18 April 1775, hundreds of British troops set off from Boston toward Concord, Massachusetts, to seize weapons and ammunition stockpiled by American colonists. Early the next morning, an advance guard of nearly 240 British soldiers reached Lexington. Paul Revere s famous ride ahead of the British departure from Boston alerted a group of nearly 70 Minutemen along the route from Lexington through to Concord. When the British finally arrived the Minutemen were waiting and prepared. In the midst of all the confusion and commotion, someone suddenly fired a shot it s uncertain which side and a melee ensued. When the brief clash ended, eight Americans lay dead and at least an equal amount were injured, while one redcoat was wounded. The British continued on to nearby Concord, where that same day they encountered armed resistance from a group of patriots at the town s North Bridge. Gunfire was exchanged, leaving two colonists and three redcoats dead. Afterward, the British retreated back to Boston, skirmishing with colonial militiamen along the way and suffering a number of casualties. The Revolutionary War had begun. But how different ... To the extent it affects them varies on the company. The products manufactured by companies can become non useful or not as in demand as they were before. The lack of productivity is another reason for downsizing. A last few deciding factors are the government deregulating certain industries and excessive overhead costs. Based on a 1997 survey by the American Management Association, the most often claimed reasons for downsizing are organizational restructuring, business downturn, and reengineering of business processes. However, downsizing basically comes down to one issue that all of these factors stem from, money. When a company does not have any money or not enough, it causes problems in the company. In Downsizing Without Disaster, Lynn Tylczak states that everything takes money, and without it a company cannot survive (4 7). A corporation needs to have a strategic plan in place in order for them to be able to implement a downsizing. There are many pros and cons to downsizing and it has a ripple effect on everyone in the corporation. Depending on the planning of the downsizing, one of the big issues to decide on is how to choose who will be terminated. For example, do you go by seniority, a percentage from all departments, an entire department, or by job level or position? These are major options that need to be addressed before anything happens. The model has further been taken global with such figures like Jean Tirole, who received global attention for the Nobel Memorial Prize award in 2011. The baseline theory, and game theory are applicable in business contexts as it did for Glasberg et al (2014) research case study. For the problem statement given above, game theory stands high applicable chances based on the idea that any business has to weigh the risks involved before considering a particular strategy (Blonski Spagnolo, 2015). Cloud computing is part of the technologies seen important in the contemporary business context. This, however, is accompanied by many risks and any organization has to determine such risks, and identify who loses and who gains in the undertaken risk. With relevant application of risk management strategies, it is possible to handle the risk in the most appropriate way such that whoever gains ends up gaining little. • 11. Skinner s View On Psychology And The Contrasting Views Of... Introduction This essay will explore B. F. Skinner s view on the focus of psychology and the contrasting view of the mentalists. It will then go on to consider the benefits of Skinners way of seeing psychology and thus how he was able to turn psychology into a science with measurable outcomes and bring evidence into a subject that had become subjective and unquantifiable. Purpose of Psychology Skinner stated that the purpose of psychology should be the study of behaviour. He had come to this conclusion whilst performing studies on rats. (Skinner, 1938). Mentatlistic approach Prior to skinner the pervading view of behaviour within psychology was concerned with thoughts and inner feelings that were thought to directly cause behaviour.(Cooper, Heron, Heward, 2007) Skinner thought that the study of psychology had remained unchanged for centauries and that the subject had made virtually no progress.(Skinner, 1973) He believed that behaviour should be studied in a scientific way rather than an introspective way. Natural Science Behaviour Psychology or Biology D M (1) (Blackman, 1991) puts the case forward that the study of behaviour should come under the subject of biology rather than psychology on the grounds that behaviour occurs naturally when consequences are applied. Skinner had said a similar thing himself in (1963) when he considered the choice of the placement of behaviour in the scheme of things. He said that if the mind was going to be the subject ... Recognised as one of the poet s most renowned publications, the collection secured the poets reputation as a major poet who addressed in rather dramatic terms a considerable amount of central experiences of the twentieth century. His work reflects a profound consciousness that he was living through a period of evident universal change.i Events in the poet s personal life as well as the public realm play a crucial role in The Tower. Within the collection, Yeats s portrays the eminent distinction between experiential events as well as ideas of nation and community. The poem recalls the speakers recognition with the fool who believes that life can be winded backwards as well as forwards. The poet brilliantly mediates between experiential and universal within the work, evident once again through his choice of words. In the early lines of the poem, the poet refers to the fool. By the end of the poem, it is evident that the poet refers to himself when he uses the pronoun I in stating that he thinks that he may find a faithful love. His ability to appeal to the wider community can also be seen in the poem All Souls Night. While the poet conveys a rather personal recollection in this work, the universal appeal is evident in its questioning of life after death. Within All Souls Night, the poet expresses his own beliefs about Dublin. He celebrates alone, but finally finds a place for the dead in his universe, thereby solving to some extent, the problem of whether there is in fact life after death. While it deals with themes that are universal, there is also a haunted sense that the speaker knows something that the reader ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unlike other blood cells, platelets are small anucleate structures derived from marrow megakaryocytes and thought for almost a century to possess solely hemostatic potentials. Platelets, however, play a much wider role in tissue regeneration and repair and interact intimately with tumor cells. On one hand, tumor cells induce platelet aggregation [TCIPA] known to act as the trigger of cancer associated thrombosis and on the other, recruited to the tumor microenvironment platelets interact directly with tumor cells favoring their proliferation and indirectly through the release of a wide palette of growth factors, angiogenic and mitogenic proteins. The role of platelets is not only confined to the primary tumor site. They escort tumor cells helping their intravasation, vascular migration and extravasation to the tissues forming distant metastasis. As expected, non specific or specific inhibition of platelets and their contents represents an attractive approach in the fight against cancer. The current review illustrates the role played by the platelets at primary tumor sites and in the various stages of the metastatic process. The first cities in human history were built on the plains of Mesopotamia between 4000 and 3000 BC. Rome was the first city to reach a million inhabitants in about 5 BC. This was two to three times higher than any other previous city. After Rome, London was in 1800 AD the second city with a million inhabitants and in the 19th century North America followed (Hall, 2010). The cities that lasted the longest share some same characteristics. According to archaeological and historical research, settlements that lasted the longest did not grow the most rapidly or had the highest standard of living. The documents on European Imperialism provide evidence for how the individuals in the Congo are being exploited for European benefit, under the profit making aim of King Leopold II. European brutality in the Congo was the logical result of the European desire to implement proper civilization in the Congo, albeit through a lack of cultural understanding and compassion towards the people of Congo. First, the document Selections from the 1885 Berlin Act (Treaty) was an outline to the European people that King Leopold II had good intentions for his mission in the Congo. However, it depicted the contradiction of what his true intentions were and what had actually occurred. King Leopold outlined six Declarations for what he desired to change for the Congo. Leopold stated, for instance, his desire to create a change in the freedom of trade for the people of the Congo, as well the creation of a Declaration relative to the slave trade, and the operations by sea or land which furnish slaves to that trade. This transition to a new type of socialist thinking, known as the socialist market economy, proved highly successful as it allowed China to move from a nation in poverty ruled by a single person to the second largest economy in the world. A more sudden or abrupt change could have easily resulted in the fall of China s economy, similar to what certain European countries experienced in 1991 at the end of the cold war between the super powers. One of the founding principles of a free market system is to give individuals freedom of choice in how they invest their assets, choose what to consume, improve their knowledge and skills, choose how they will use their income and invest their wealth or assets as they see fit. Xiaoping began his growth strategy by allowing farmers to sell some of their output on the black market with a view of increasing demand, which in turn gave farmers incentive to produce more and increased production surplus. By doing this, not only did the government increase its production surplus, but it also allowed its impoverished citizens easier access to fruit, meat and vegetables and reduced the country s reliance on food imports to sustain its large population This strategy was an indirect way of subjecting people to competition ... In ancient Egypt, women used softened papyrus tampons, while the Greeks utilized lint wrapped around small pieces of wood, and the Romans wore pads and tampons made of soft wool. Considered impure in the Jewish culture during biblical times, the proclivity of physically separating women from men during menstruation is habitual, as well as any object they touched or sat on. These fads were perpetuated in Europe in the 1800s. With a more natural approach, women during this period allowed their menstruation to bleed into their clothing. Creatively, women used homemade pads in America, during the 1900s, similar to baby diapers: Others wore menstrual pad belts secured by suspenders. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 35. Diction, Imagery, and, Figurative Language in Nighttime... The poem Nighttime Fires by Regina Barecca explains the speaker s complex view of her father. The speaker uses imagery to describe her father s strange behaviours after losing his job. Figurative language is used strategically to explain the memories of this young girl s strange adventures. The diction in this poem is also used very well helping us to understand why these nighttime fires left such a lasting impact on this grown woman from when she was only five years old. All of these things are very important to the progress of the poem and the engagement of the reader. The diction in the poem is very important, as it would be in any poem, but Barecca chooses her words very nicely to create the image that she wants us to perceive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The speaker uses imagery repeatedly in this poem so we always know exactly what is happening. we drove fast toward smoke is said in line 4 which seems really basic but the basics are really import to the poem because any little descriptive words shape a poem and that is just what Barecca is doing here. In lines 17 and 18 the speaker describes her father s smile my father smiled a smile from a secret, brittle heart she says he smiles from a secret brittle heart when he sees a Cadillac in a driveway which makes the reader think of a malicious smile on the fathers face. The malicious smile in relation to the Cadillacs and the fact that he likes to see fires in rich neighbourhoods also helps us come to the conclusion that he finds pleasure in seeing houses of upper class citizens burn, because he is less fortunate in losing his job, which is a key part to the poem. Another aspect to this poem that is very important would be the figurative language. The author uses a lot of similes and metaphors throughout further illustrate this father s ridiculous ways. The speaker uses the simile snaked like dragons to describe the fire engines, this was a good choice in comparison because when you think of a dragon you automatically think of bright fires and then when you continue on the thought you think of their crouched down tiptoes Card 3 through corners. • 36. The Human Cost Of An Illiterate Society By Jonathan Kozol As soon as humans walked the earth, since the beginnings of time, learning was the most vital in order to survive. This was, and still is today, the most important part of adaptation, problem solving, and creation of life itself. Without it, our society would never move forward and humanity would never advance. Undeniably, education is the start of everything in life itself meaning that it continuously surrounds every aspect of life. In both Frederick Douglass s essay, Learning to Read and Jonathan Kozol s essay, The Human Cost of an Illiterate Society they both share different consequential examples dealing with illiteracy. Douglass focuses on his quest to becoming literate while facing the hardships of battling slavery. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He points out that the uneducated have many restrictions on their lives as well as any form of power (257). Furthermore, reflecting back to how the inability to read can have consequences that do not give illiterates a chance to obtain their rights. Another important way of life is, not only freedom, but identity and self. Kozol emphasizes this concept throughout his essay by stating that they do not know the true world around them (261). In relaying that, Not knowing the world that lies concealed behind those words is a more terrifying feeling...Even the hard, cold stars within the firmament above one s head begin to mock the possibilities for self location (Kozol 261). The stigmas, fears, and poverty can all be prevented from education. As soon as children become of age, they begin to read and write. Unfortunately, some teachers may not let students believe they are worthy of an education (Kozol 262). Nonetheless, spreading the importance of education is vital for a society. Equally important, Douglass mentions when he was finally learning to read how it opened a new world for him with freedom. He began to understand the world from a different point of view, he wrote, Freedom now appeared, to disappear no more forever. It was heard in every sound, and seen in every thing. It was ever present to torment me with a sense of my wretched condition (Douglass 129). By being able to read and understand it, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I am ready to read lots of new books and some Shakespeare because I have not read a lot of his work before. I had a great summer full of family, fun, and travel. I was busy every morning for football though because we had to be at Braden River every morning at 7:30. The only good part about waking up early was that when I was done I still had most of the day to go fishing or do anything. Workouts really help out at the beginning of the season though because it makes us ready and strong for the whole season. Besides having football every morning, I went fishing a lot over the summer in lakes around my neighborhood. I at least caught around 30 bass this summer because I was mostly fishing this summer when I had nothing else to do. The only boring thing I had to do this summer was taking drivers ed online, so I am prepared to take my permit test when I turn 15. • 39. How Did Mexican Culture Influence Their Arts During The... During the time of post revolution in the 1920 s, Mexico underwent an enormous transformation from a mostly rural society to a largely industrialized and modern society. The various opinions of the Mexican people and their modernized culture can be put into perspective by the artistic expression of three famous artist Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco, and David Alfaro Siqueiros. They began a movement with wall paintings that focused on the political and social conditions in Mexico during the 1920 s and gave an in depth story of their point of view through their art. This essay will discuss a moderate overview of the impacts and influences of their art during the 1920 s. The Mexican Revolution began in 1910 with a political revolt against the tyrannical president Porfirio Diaz. The civil war was led by a number of charismatic individuals whose personal political agendas often determined the path of the decade long revolution. Accompanied by a group of intellectual radicals, political leaders began to discuss a noticeable movement inspired by the revolution. While the mural project commissioned numerous artists from across the country, the influence and prominence of Orozco, Rivera, and Siqueiros was so great that their work became the face of the movement. • 40. The Media Portrayal Of Nurses Professional nurses are as important, in achieving success, as any other component within the healthcare sector. For instance, a professional nurse typically spends more time in direct contact with patients than a physician does (Hendrich et al., 2008). Nevertheless, media sources have always painted the picture of a nurse in various forms. Although nurses are sometimes perceived as life savers and angels of mercy, the profession is often sexualized, stereotyped, and undermined in its importance (Hoeve et al., 2014). In general, the Scrubbing In is likely intended for an audience of young nursing aspirants who wish to become professional nurses. This portrayal gives me negative impression about nursing. Safe Environment: For the first part of my observation I noticed that the environment was not in the best shape that it could be, so I asked the program supervisor John why the environment looked like it was under repair and he explained that the whole school was under construction. Through my observation I did notice that for the most part the environment was safe, but it did have major hazards that concerned me. The environment had safe ratios, for example, in the specific class that I observed there was seven infants and two adults the caretakes informed me that it is regularly eight infants in the classroom four infants per adult, but a child was out sick with the flu. In addition, I noticed that in the front part of the classroom where the door entry and fire extinguisher are located there was a fire and emergency plan that includes emergency information and a plan to get the infants to safety. The classroom also had emergency numbers posted by the phone area and I was told that all emergency cards were stored in a file card holder that is easy to access. Furthermore, throughout my observation I noticed that children could take risk opportunities like running around, climbing, and playing in tent areas without injury and with constant supervision. The classroom I observed was accepting of constant interactions, but they always made it clear to the children that it was not appropriate to hurt one another.
