Royal Caribbean s Anthem Of The Seas
On February 2016, Royal Caribbean s Anthem of the Seas set sail off the East Coast of New
Jersey with more than 6,000 passengers and 1,500 crew member on board (Almasy, 2016). The
passenger ship sailed into a storm which threatened the lives and safety of everybody on board.
According to CNN and other new agencies, a lawsuit was filed in a Miami federal court alleging
the captain s negligence in sailing into a well publicized and forecasted storm. In another case,
Royal Caribbean s Explorer of the Seas was on a 10 day cruise in January when a fast moving
bug left nearly 700 passengers and crew stricken with vomiting and diarrhea. The CDC reports that
this is the highest number of sick people reported on any cruise shipin two decades. Yet, in another
report, the Eastern Star went down during a storm killing more than 450 people. It s the
deadliest boat disaster in China in almost 70 years Cruise Line Safety: In the last 5 years
approximately 1000 people have died on cruise ships which ran aground or sank (Ahmed, 2016).
Ironically, there are a lot of people who will never get to experience of going on a cruise because
of the fear driven by reports like the aforementioned. In actuality, cruise vacations have a higher
percentage of satisfied customers than any other vacation experience. There are a number of
compelling reasons why a cruise would be an ideal vacation for family and friends. Taking a cruise
can have many different price ranges depending on the location you

A Quality Improvement Storyboard
A Quality Improvement (QI) Storyboard is an organized way of documenting and displaying the QI
process. Most storyboards use clear, concise and easily understood statements to describe a problem,
identify the cause(s), explain the solution and display the results. Often, pictures and graphs are
used to show data, present results and demonstrate solutions. Furthermore, the QI Storyboardcan be
used as an ongoing visual record of a team s progress.
The QI Storyboard should include the following 7 components. When possible, each step should be
expanded upon; explaining the methods used, and potential outcomes achieved.
Step 1 Reason for Improvement. Step 1 determines if a problem exists. If it does, is it a temporary
problem or is it a long term problem. What is the context of the problem and how is its effect
significant in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In step 3, the organized data gathered in step 2 is reviewed and analyzed, looking for factors
which can be changed to in order to improve the situation. Moreover, we want to verify that
problems identified, are most certainly causes to the problem. It is pointless to change a factor that
has no direct effect on the problem. The tool that is most useful in step 3 is the cause and effect or
fishbone diagram. Furthermore, statistical experiments can be used to correlate relationships
between identified factors with the results in the form of scatter plots.
Step 4. Countermeasure. In Step 4, all possible changes are formulated, based on feasibility of the
solution and the effectiveness it will have will upon the root cause factors that eliminate or
significantly reduce the problem. Additionally, when addresses changes, we want to assess whether
each change formulated is not only corrective in nature but preventative also. Implementing
preventative changes has a greater overall effect, it prevents recurrence. The tools used during step
4 are decision matrixes, force field analysis, Gantt charts and flow

Argumentative Essay Naps
It is evident that short naps have many benefits. However, long naps are not as good as short
naps because waking up on a long nap makes it hard to sleep at night. Furthermore, it makes
people groggy. Short naps can help many people who are sleep deprived or just want the
benefits that napping comes with. Napping can improve mental performance, health, and the
body s internal clock. Naps are very beneficial to mental performance, so sleepy people going to
work should take naps. According to Source #2, Mark Rosekind of NASA, who conducted the
research, stated that even a 26 minute nap boosted a pilot s mental performance by 34%. (Allegra

The Biography Of Samantha Smith Essay
The Biography of Samantha Smith Samantha Nicole Smith was born into a small family on April
21st 1998, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of Chief Prosecutor Christine Smith and Part
Owner/Superintendent Brian Smith, sister of high school graduate and future freshman of Butler
University Nathan Smith. Samantha came from a hardworking, familyoriented, working class of
community involved family members on her father s side. Her paternal grandmother, Joanne Smith,
pushed her four sons to be respectful, always work for what you want to receive, and always
remember where you came from, therefore, Samantha s father Brian decided to get his associates
degree in architecture with a full time job at Glenmark Construction to attain a career and pursue to
be a part owner of the business. Samantha also came from an east coast, working class, intelligent,
Norwegian based family on her mother s side. Her maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Bensen, worked
at a bank while her grandfather, Kenneth Bensen, worked in a laboratory that manufactured
mechanical circulatory support for the heart and lungs called cardiopulmonary bypass. Kenneth and
Elizabeth pushed their two children to achieve a higher education, never give up, and never

The Legacy Of The Lauren Rogers Museum
The Lauren Rogers Museum is located in Laurel, Mississippi and was built in 1923. One unique
characteristic about this museum is that has the Georgian Revival Style, which means if you were
to cut the museum down the middle in equal halves each side would be identical. While touring the
Lauren Rodgers Museum there were two separate collections that caught my eye. These collections
consisted of the American and European collection. The American collection focuses primarily on
portraiture. In the American Collection I chose a paintingby Jean MacLane called The Chintz
Chair. MacLane was born on September 14, 1878 and died on January 23, 1964 in New Canaan,
Connecticut. One of MacLane s first studies was at an Art Institute in Chicago with John
Vanderpoel. MacLane and her husband, artist John C. Johansen (1876 1964) help found the
National Foundation of Portrait Painters in 1912 (Jean 2015). The year of 1912 was considered
to be MacLane s biggest year because she was recognized for many different awards. MacLane
depicted the Allied Leaders from W.W.I., provided the only female subject, Queen Elisabeth of
Belgian, and also became an associate member of the National Academy of Design. The main items
that MacLane incorporates into her portraits are women and their children. In 1931, she was elected
to the American Academy of Arts and Letter (Jean 2015). The picture that I chose from the
American Collection by Jean McLane demonstrates a mother sitting in a chair

The Static Model Of Data Mining Essay
Abstract: Lot of research done in mining software repository. In this paper we discussed about the
static model of data mining to extract defect .Different algorithms are used to find defects like
naГЇve bayes algorithm, Neural Network, Decision tree. But NaГЇve Bayes algorithm has the best
result .Data mining approach are used to predict defects in software .We used NASA dataset
namely, Data rive. Software metrics are also used to find defects.
Keywords: NaГЇve Bayes algorithm, Software Metric, Solution Architecture,.
I.INTRODUCTION
According to [1], multiple algorithms are combined to show better prediction capability using
votes. NaГЇve Bayes algorithm gives the best result if used individual than others. The contribution
of this paper based on two reasons. Firstly, it provides a solution architecture which is based on
software repository and secondly it provides benchmarks that provide an ensemble of data mining
models in the defective module prediction problem and compare the result. Author used NASA
dataset online [2] which contain five large software projects with thousands of modules. Bohem
found 80/20 rule and about the half modules are defect free [3]. Fixing Defects in the operational
phase is considerably more expensive than doing so in the development or testing phase. Cost
escalation factors ranges from 5:1 to 100:1 [3]. It tells defects can be fixed in operational phase
not in development and testing phase. The study of defect prediction can be classified into

Bailey, a trespasser attacked the Plaintiff in the Apartment on two occasions. The first attack
occurred on February 6, 2016 when Bailey came to return the Plaintiff s belongings. The Plaintiff
authorized him to come to the Apartment only to return her belongings. But, he came to the
Apartment only to persuade her to get back into relationship with him. Therefore, his presence in
the Apartment was beyond the scope of the Plaintiff s consent, and hence, he was a trespasser.
When the Plaintiff resisted, Bailey physically and verbally abused her. Bailey threw her against
the wall, slapped her, kicked her, punched holes in the living room walls, tore a hallway door off,
and broke a bedroom window. Hearing the Plaintiff s screaming, one of the neighbors called the
police and another neighbor called Dan Houston, who never responded to the incident. The
altercation stopped when the police arrived after fifteen minutes. But, Bailey s vicious attack
caused severe physical injuries to the Plaintiff including three broken ribs, and numerous cuts and
bruises. She also suffered economic damages because the Defendant required her to fix the
damages Bailey caused to the basic facilities (door, window, and walls) spending $2,500.
The second attack occurred on March 29, 2016. Around 2 AM, when Bailey called the Plaintiff

Generally, when we go out of the house or company or any infrastructure we switch off the light
or the electrical equipments to avoid accidents such as short circuit, firing etc. but sometimes we
forget to switch off, so to do this we have to come back . This is wastage of time and creates lots
of chaos and tension. [6]So to avoid such kind of situation the latest technology coming up
worldwide is the smart home technology this comes under IOT. IOT offers huge number of
applications in various environments for improving the quality of our lives. Smart home is one in

Youth over Age
Introduction Jim Fogle has worked in the technical sector for more than 30 years. He has held
various positions within the same company throughout his career. During this time, he has
witnessed the introduction of new technologies while countless others have gone obsolete.
Although Fogle possesses several years of proven industry experience, his career path does not
reflect his performance or skills. In fact, Fogle s career has tended to move on a downward slope.
Originally a member of the Engineering department, Fogle has found himself serving within
progressively lesser roles. Twenty years ago, Fogle served as an area support manager and

As employees get older, job performance across various professional and non professional
positions has been proven to hold steady (Judge and Judge, 2007, pg. 49 50). Despite evidence to
the contrary, stereotypes and biased beliefs continue to permeate the information technology sector.
This is partially due to the nature of the industry itself. Information technology companies are
geared towards developing innovative technical products and services for businesses and
consumers. Technology rapidly evolves and adapts to address society s needs. For instance, the
telephone gave way to the facsimile machine. This soon became virtually obsolete with the
introduction of newer technologies such as email and instant messaging (Charness, 2006).
Companies within the IT sector seek to maintain a workforce that reflects the youth and vigor of
their technology. Sylvia Francis, a researcher of age discrimination, notes, These industries are
looking to match staff with their perceived young image, and once you hit 40 you no longer fit
(Computer Weekly, 2006). Older workers also tend to shun job postings or interviews referring to
young, dynamic organizations or projects, as these descriptors infer an environment that prefers
youth rather than experience (Goodwin, 2006). A 2001 survey illustrates the disparity in both
staffing and average salaries for IT professionals. This survey consisted of 3,629 total respondents,
of which 40

Robert Gordon s new book tells the history of Stax Records, the famous Memphis label
responsible for some of Southern soul s definitive recordings. Stax began in a Memphis garage
in 1957 as Satellite Records, a project of Jim Stewart, soon joined by his sister Estelle Axton, both
white. From these humble beginnings, it enjoyed a fairy tale rise, becoming a revered name, the
home of the great Otis Redding, of Soul Man and In the Midnight Hour. Gordon tracks this
glorious ascent and a vertiginous fall as the label eventually collapsed under its own weight. He

Sweetie? Where are you going? I heard my mother s faint voice call out from the kitchen. I was
standing at the front door, halfway through opening it when I heard her voice. It was Oli s, my

incredibly forgetful. Mom, I ve already told you. I m going out for the weekend, I responded,

Clothing In Eastern Christianity
When referring to clerical wear, it crosses over a very large spectrum, even in the year 1980s.
Clerical wear, also known as nun, priest or ministers wear is non liturgical clothing. This type of
clothing is typically worn as everyday clothing for the clergy. It is known to be their label or a
form of identification. Different religions have different ways of dressing themselves to show who
they are. In Eastern Christianity, clerical wear is considered everyday clothing, which has to be
worn in public at all times. It does not have to be blessed like the vesting, but it is a daily
garment. The garments may consist of a clerical collar, clergy shirt, cassock, skufia, kamilavka,
apostolnik, epanokamelavkion, and klobuk. Some are more commonly known to be worn in the
Russian tradition. The cassock, is the floor length garment that is usually black and worn by all
of the clergy. The skufia and kamilavka are hats that can be awarded as a sign of honor to the
clergy. The apostolnik is worn only by the nuns with or without one of the caps. The
epanokamelavkion is worn by all of the bishops. In Catholicism, things differed dramatically. The
clergy would still wear the cassocks, but the color would... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The bishops started to wear purple shirts as a representation of their office, including the pectoral
cross and episcopal ring, which also helps them distinguish themselves from other clergy. There is
no policy that says other clergy members cannot wear purple shirts, but it is not generally
appropriate for them to do so. They also favor the Sarum, which is the double breasted cassock that

Love For The First Time
When you fall in love for the first time you think you are high in the sky (and no, not in that
way). Everything is beautiful, colorful, and perfect; at least that s how I felt. When I had my
first boyfriend, I felt free and careless, There weren t bad days and I felt complete because he was
by my side. Finally, someone understood my bad jokes and weird sense of humor. It was the best
timeof my life, and after a long time, I felt happy. I know it sounds clichГ©, but that s how stupidly
happy lovecan make you.
We have met for six years, he was in the same school as me and he later confesses to me 3

were together for two years as an official couple.
Unfortunately, it didn t last long. He had a friend who spent a lot of time with him, and I guess
that little by little he started to get feelings for her, he did the right thing and told me about it
before he could cheat on me. We end up on good terms and till this day we talk to each other as
good friends because either way our relationship at that point (last few months) felt empty and it
was like we got bored of each other, we realized that what we felt was not love in a romantic way,
but as friends. We care for each other because we ve known for six years. I had to admit that he

El Г©xito de una campaГ±a se mide no por el recuerdo del mensaje en si, sino por el recuerdo de
la marca.
Elementos a evaluar
2. La PersuasiГіn:
Elementos a evaluar
escasa repercusiГіn en la persuasiГіn.
Se debe evitar que la utilizaciГіn de elementos destinados a agradar

An Essay on Modernism vs. Traditionalism in The Mayor of Casterbridge
During the first half of the 19th century English society was making the difficult transition from a
pre industrial Britain to В‘modern Victorian times. In agriculture, most of the transition took place
around 1846 with the repeal of the corn laws. This allowed foreign grain to be imported into
England for the first time. Consequently, the entire structure and methods of agriculture in Britain
were greatly altered. Much of the action in Thomas Hardy s novel The Mayor of Casterbridge takes
place during the years surrounding 1846. These were the years in which traditionalists took their
last stand before being defeated in the name of progress. The contrasts between ... Show more

him as illustrated though Abel Whittle s reaction to Henchard s reprimand. Farfrae however,
took a more modern approach by instilling respect in Whittle out of justice. Abel was in the

do this. Go and dress yourself instantly, Whittle [said Farfrae] Farfrae resolved the issue efficiently
and with justice which is illustrative of his modern attitude toward an employee reprimand. The
contrasting views on business ethics held by Henchard and Farfrae are illustrative of the contrasts
between tradition and modernization.
Similarly, the contrasting attitudes that Henchard and Farfrae take toward modernization and new
developments help to illustrate the conflict of tradition versus modernism in Casterbridge society.
As a result of technological progress, a new machine had been developed and introduced to the

Oregon Trail Dbq Essay
Approximately 20,000 people died while traveling on the Oregon Trail. Which took place in the
mid 1840s, when Americans started seeking economic success by moving westward. The
justification for the expansion was due to weakness in the Mexican government and economy.
Since Americans regarded Mexicans as inferior, despite the statement, made by Thomas Jefferson
in the Declaration of Independence, that All men are created equal , many of the citizens thought
that the Mexican citizens did not deserve to keep their lands. America was not justified in its
western expansion due to the lack of morality behind putting one person s comfort above the safety

Although men often rejoiced in the idea of a new adventure for a chance at economic success,
many women felt that the traveling was too much of a gamble as they focused more on the highly
relevant hardships they would be facing. The next piece of evidence, that supports both the overall
claim and the hardships, is that on the Oregon Trail, emigrants faced hunger, exposure to the
elements, poisoned water, and some of them even resulted in some cannibalism. The cannibalism,

Native Americans hardly ever attacked the American wagons moving west, the government decided

Assess The Role Of Catholicism In Ireland
From the conception of the modern Irish State in the beginning of the 20th century, Catholicism
was enshrined in the structure of the state in Ireland and determined the social norms and practices
of society. A nation with a deep rooted Catholic heritage that has had a profound impact on Irish
history, culture, tradition and identity. Once recognized throughout the world as a staunchly
Catholic country with the doctrines of the Church enormously entrenched in the Irish State and
Irish society was imbued with Catholicism. Yet as each years passes in the 21st century the
Catholic Church in Ireland finds itself in a battle with rapid change and modernity. Due to its rigid
and resolute teachings, despite pressure on change has led a proportion

Prayer In The Poetry Of George Herbert And Gerard Manley...
If two poems about prayer are laid side by side, logic and statistics would state that the two
poems should be somewhat alike in content. Prayer is supposed to be a universally mutual
sensation among all people of the world. Prayer is also normally seen in a good light with a
positive reputation. Prayer known to be a helpful tool to seek aid from or send thanks to the deity
of the devotee s choice. Openly criticizing prayer in writing or verse is not a common
phenomenon. George Herbert and Gerard Manley Hopkinstook the matter into their own hands and
broke from the crowd. Both poets expressed extreme opinions and recorded their experiences and
thoughts of prayer. Though both poems share the same base topic, their content and opinion varies.
One undeniable characteristic both poems share is that the poets are obviously giving
commentary on prayer and God himself. The major difference between these two poems lies in
their feelings on their selected subject matter. Herbert s poem makes him sound hurt by God.
He states O that thou schouldst give dust a tongue / to crie to thee, / And then note heare it
crying! all day long / My heart was in my knee, / But no hearing. (16 20). Herbert is arguing to
God that he gave humans tongues with which to pray and cry out to him, though he does not
respond. He mentions his knees, too. Knees are typically what people in prayer fall onto in
respect and awe or, in Herbert s case, desperation and fear. Herbert repeats the phrase But no

Advantages And Components Of A New To Hydro One
Pad mount distribution stations are relatively new to Hydro One so that there are only four
stations of this kind in existence to date with the first design implemented in 2010 at Holland
DS. This type of station is normally used where a safe, reliable, and aesthetically appealing
design with smaller footprint is needed. Pad mount DS operates on distribution systems, up to
44kV and 10MVA. Most of the electrical components are pad mounted and are usually known as
dead front equipment. The Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) defines dead front as electrical
equipment without live parts exposed to a person on the operating side of the equipment . As

The 44kV entrance supply can be overhead or underground. Normally this supply is first
connected to the MUS pole for MUS connection and then to the HV switch fuse structure via
overhead conductors. There are three mid span openers installed in between the MUS pole and the
HV Switch fuse structure for station isolation, when MUS is connected. Additionally, power
distribution throughout the station is carried out by direct buried, underground cables connecting
every electrical component, having concrete vaults under LV load break interrupter, reclosers,
and station service transformer. The LV cables are connected to equipment bushings via dead
break elbow connectors, which require to be disconnected only when not under load.
Furthermore, it is important to mention that the Puffer Pak В® is a dead front pad mount load
break disconnect switch used to distribute power from the three phase transformer to each of the
reclosers and SST. Depending on the design requirements, the Puffer Pak В® can have 5 or 6
switched ways. Examples of Pad mount DS designs that can be found on Meridian are: Holland

The Impact Of Football Stadiums
The Impact Football Stadiums Have When governments build stadiums for a sport team millions of
dollars are involved in the process. Since the government pays for these stadiums, it s our tax
dollars that are used. Building a stadium has more disadvantages than advantages. The government
doesn t make a lot of money from the stadiums compared to how much money the government
spent on building the stadium. When a team owner wants to build a new stadium, the team owner

The article Point: Local Government Should not be Involved in Financing Stadiums stated, Eli
Jacobs bought the Baltimore Orioles for $70 million and sold it for $173 million (Pearson
Konczal, 2016). The team owner got an extra profit of $100 million just because a new stadium
was built from the tax payers money. Team owners can make easy money, by having the state build
a new stadium for that team. The team owner gets hundreds of millions of dollars because of this.
The team owner makes money from parking fees, snacks sold, tickets sold, and food trucks outside.
After the team owner has paid their bill the rest of the money is the team owners. When a state, or a
city funds a stadium to be built the funder gets little to no money in return. Stadiums on average
cost about $1 billion annually. We are paying to fund these stadiums instead of doing something that
would benefit us. Stadiums bring no revenue to local businesses and hurt the community. Stadium
only benefit the team and the team owners by giving them more money. Everyone is at a loss when
a stadium is built, except the team owner. Works Cited Bouchard, E., English, M. (2016). Sports

Governments Should be Responsible for Cleaning up Environmental Hazards from Previous
Resource Use
The responsibility of dealing with environmental hazards resulting from earlier resource use and
environmental standards that are no longer acceptable today should be devoted in its entirety to
different forms of government whether that be the federal, provincial or municipal level. This paper
will discuss that only governments have enough money and resources available to adequately and
efficiently clean up environmental hazards earlier caused. The paper will then present that it is
unfair to punish innocent civilians living in areas that are environmentally hazardous plagued with
poor air quality, unsafe and unusable drinking or bathing water. Furthermore the paper will state
that biodiversity of such hazardous regions drastically reduces from poor water and air quality
will be discussed. Finally, the paper will discuss that there will be an economic boom and
growth resulting from new jobs for the clean up as well as a new reputation for the area being
clean and safe which ultimately provides a new space that is useable for new commercial
industries. The key arguments are addressed and accompanied by two significant case studies in
which will give insight on why the government should be responsible for such cleanups. Although
there are numerous case studies available the two primary case studies that are used are listed as

Distribution Based On The Hotel Website Design Essay
Distribution strategy
Our motel cannot be everything to every guest. Rather the focus should be on supporting channels
of distribution based on the customers the company intends to cater to. We are trying to target
consumers looking for best value while booking a room or are you only looking at the price
conscious booker or you have some other consideration. Meeting evolving content requirements of

Examples Of Masculinity In Shakespeare s Plays
In the plays of William Shakespeare, male characters often express their masculinity through their
relationships with other characters. This masculinity often appears through the control they try to
force upon the other characters. In each of Shakespeare s plays, this control appears in various
capacities. In William Shakespeares histories, conflicting masculinities are presented and the
characters, especially the title heroes, are forced to assert their masculinity. This can be seen in
such histories such as Henry V and Richard III as each of their masculine expressions are
challenged by outside forces.
Shakespeare s histories heavily rely on the concept of masculinity through a royal lineage that is
controlled by patriarchal ancestry. This is seen especially in Henry V as Coppella Khan writes that

In addition to inspiring his soldiers to fight, he joins them in battle. He tells his soldiers that
because of their shared experiences in combat, they are now connected, saying we few, we happy
few, we band of brothers; / for he today that sheds his blood with me/ shall be my brother, (4.3.60

the Dauphin s gender identity is often interpreted as feminine. Rebecca Ann Bach writes rather than
killing on the battlefield, the Dauphin expends his energy with women he is active but he does no
harm...The Dauphin s active doing has wasted his body so that he has neither the strength nor the
courage to do battle in the field (Bach 11 12). Compared to Henry, the Dauphin s masculinity is not
based on lineage or combat. This makes him appear as less masculine. Bach writes that the lustful
Dauphin lacks the testicular masculinity that would defend him from lust and make him a potent

How do the sets contribute to the mood the filmmakers are trying to establish? The sets are very
dark in order to gain a very serious mood amongst the characters and to create a very dull

The Ebro Valley conveys the story itself and opposing viewpoint. Shallow and barren view of
freedom, or the lush green landscape that comes from choice. Jill looks out the window and sees
the barren deserted hill first, a symbol of her current state and feeling with the american. She has
no choice over her life and thus feels empty. In turn she states, They look like white elephants,
she said. (Hemingway 475) Such allusion created a feeling of an elephant in the room. Kenneth
Johnson states; The hills like white elephants also serve to remind one of the couple s
conflicting views on abortion. A white elephant, in one meaning of the term, is anything rare,
expensive, and difficult to keep; any burdensome possession; an object no longer esteemed by
its owner though not without value to others. (Johnson 233 238). This elephant is the baby, the
American sees the baby as an elephant, big and needing much upkeep and unnecessary. On the
other hand after she stands up and walks to the other side we see the opposing point, green lush
vegetation, rivers, and rain. This walk across the station shows Jill s growth and realization of
what she wants. Jill stands up and chooses her own destiny. She clearly wants to keep the baby
and has decided to do so. Rain is a global motif of growth and in many cultures has been seen as a

There are many different factors early in life that instill this superior characteristic of America and
its people.
To start off, education is huge when analyzing ethnocentrism. Throughout my years of social
studies and history classes the textbooks emphasize the victories of America, the times in which
people from the U.S. were heroic and brave and fought in the face of hardship. However, these
historical accounts merely account for a single side of the story when in fact there were many
more events to be shared. The textbooks tilt the perspective of the important events to show the
Americans as winners. They do not show triumphs against the U.S. or times when our people were
defeated as much as they do the victorious moments, for that would display weakness. There is an
article in the book that speaks about this topic specifically. Writing the textbook in an ethnocentric
way denies the students the much more objective chance to learn about other cultures outside of
the U.S. (Textbook, pg. 68) This act of showcasing the successes of America in a way that
disregards any other country or culture tells the reader that America is the best, that we are superior
and undefeatable. Emphasizing superiority then in turn creates an inferiority of others as well.
(Textbook, pg. 68) The students, at a very young age are told that the United Statesof America is a
country that wins. These books are taught

The Sociology Of Health And Mental Illness

Disparate Social Object Antipsychiatry was as much a cultural phenomenon as an academic or
institutional one. Whilst the work of Laing (1960) and Szasz (1960) can be rooted in the Fruedo
Marxist methodological individualism of critical theory (Rogers Pilgrim, 2010: 14), or even a
broader constructionist critique of medical truth, it just as easily lends itself to a more limited
historicist Libertarian reading: mental illness as socio political deviance within an encroaching
state (Sumner, 1994). Within this interface must be located the panoply of iconographic
representation (Shorter, 1997: 273) within wider mass culture: Sumner cites the example of Ken
Kesey s One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest as salacious and sensational as it may be which became,
for a generation, a precipitation of populist anti sentiment towards psychiatric institutions and their
operative physicians. It is clear then that the dialectic of mind and its healer transcends theoretical
partitions, spans academic disciplines, and crosses the great divide to take up its place within the
popular consciousness. Considering this, and also

Persuasive Essay On Air Traffic Control
The odds are that at some point in time, most people in America will travel by air. What most of
these people do not realize is that a simple flight is in reality a well oiled, complex machine unlike
any other air navigation service provider in the world. After the Wright brothers took their first
successful flight, America embraced air travel. The Federal Aviation Agency (now Administration)
officially began operations in May of 1958, and later developed a sophisticated air traffic control
system that is responsible for the largest volume of air traffic in the world ( A Brief History of
the FAA ). Today, however, many politicians believe that government involvement in air traffic
control is inhibiting the overall performance of air traffic control. Several bills have been
proposed to Congress since the 1970s in attempt to separate air traffic control (referenced as ATC)
from the FAA by privatization, corporatization, or other means (Elias 2). The most recent of these
bills has caused serious debate in the aviation world over economic policies, safety regulations, and
overall effectiveness of the current ATC system. The Aviation Innovation, Reform, and
Reauthorization Act (21st Century AIRR Act) as proposed by Representative Bill Shuster should
not be passed by Congress because it would privatize air traffic control by removing it from the
Federal Aviation Administration. This would entail the creation of a board of stakeholders who
would have the power to make regulatory

enforcement could do so without advising the individual that they were free to leave preceding the

like ketchup and mayonnaise, in Spanish, I may say, Donde encontro condiments egual a
ketchup e mayonnaise? The person I am talking to may understand me enough to help me, but if
I had said, Por lo pasillo puedo encontrar condimentos como salsa de tomate y mayonesa? It
would sound like I know what I m saying, and it would be easier to understand me. This is why
for me to learn English I have to know the mechanics, or rules of grammar so I can speak properly.
I will start with defining a sentence. A sentence expresses a complete thought. For example... Show

I can t find the ketchup and mayonnaise. Where can I find them? The is an article. The is used
when a noun or pronoun is specific, special, or more than one, and it is placed before the noun or
pronoun. In this sentence the article the is placed before the noun, condiments. So you know the
person is looking specifically for condiments, and there is an expressed interest in more than one
condiment. Condiments is a noun. It means things which are used to flavor food, like ketchup and
mayonnaise. The last word we have to look at is the word, like. Like in this sentence is used as a
preposition. It means, similar, or almost the same. Like in this sentence tells you the person may
not be looking for ketchup or mayonnaise, but for condiments in general, and used ketchup and
mayonnaise as an example to explain what is meant by the word condiments. I didn t explain
pronouns, in this little essay. I and them are pronouns. So I will write briefly about them here.
Them is the pronoun which I use in place of the noun, words and the pronoun. I is the pronoun
used in this essay in place of my name. Oh, and always put a capital letter to start the first word in
a sentence, like this sentence started with a capital O , then end the sentence with a punctuation
mark like a period (.) or a question mark (?) or an exclamation mark

Sarasota Beach Vacation
A vacation is a break from society for leisure activities. Most working citizens in the US want to
take a break from life and take a vacation somewhere. So where is the ideal place to go for
vacation then? There are several factors that go into deciding where to go like price, weather,
and activities. Well in my opinion, the ideal location would be on the coast of Florida,
specifically Sarasota, Florida due to it having everything one can achieve out of a vacation. The
white beaches of Sarasota are astounding. White beaches aren t as common as the classic yellow
beach, making Sarasota s quite unique. When the weather is just right, Sarasota beach can
become a paradise for its guests. This beach is aimed at families since they are less crowded,
making it more fitting for kids. There is sufficient space for everybody to easily unwind at the
beach. The water at the beach is tidy and the soft sand warms one feet. At this beach, one won t
find the typical water bottle or candy bar wrapper floating in the water. The pollution control is
great and the waters are treated well by others. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What Is The Reflection Of African American Literature
Ever since I took Hip Hop Cinema last semester with Dr. Tani Sanchez I have been greatly
interested in African American writing and African American culture in general. This course has
allowed me to become a more cultured and informed person which I believe is a character trait that
is vital in current day society. This piece of writing will further explain why I have found this
African Americanliterature course so interesting and describe memorable things in this course
have made me have strong feelings and then I will relate those interests and feelings to pieces of
literature that we have read throughout the course of the semester in order to tie those interests
and feelings to some examples and personal memories. I believe that the things which I saw as
memorable throughout the course will stick with me long after finals week due to the fact that
they are vital to being an inclusive and understanding culture in my opinion. The most
memorable things that I will take away from this course are how poorly the views towards
African Americans have been and still tend to be, how the Harlem Renaissance was able to play
such a big part in the history of African American culture, and how African American writers
were able to showcase a sense of revolution within their specific pieces of writing. The most
memorable thing I took from this course was with regards to how African Americans have been
viewed throughout American history in popular culture, this course has really been able to
show me how poorly African Americans were viewed by people who were not part of the
diverse African American culture. Over the course of the semester as we saw this theme over
and over again, it was clear that I felt a sense of anger over learning about how poorly African
Americans have been viewed in society and that has led me to sad about how so many people
could have such a negative view on a group of people that live on the same streets in the same
cities as they do. The piece of writing which I would like to compare this memorable part of the
course is Going To Meet The Man by James Baldwin. This text is all about a Sheriff named Jess
who witnesses a lynching when he is taken there for what his father

Silver Essay Chemistry
I chose the element Silver (Ag) from the periodic table as my favorite because it s a beautiful
piece of metal. Its my favorite element because, it s commonly used for jewelry and looks very
cool on me when I wear a silver necklace. Also, because its color is just very appealing. The metal
was refined by cupellation, and the process was invented by the Chaldeans. It was created by
heating the molten metalin a shallow cup so it can oxidises the other metals mixed in the cup. such
as copper and lead. which leads silverto be unaffected. Silver was founded and invented around
the year of 3000 BC. As the years went on, the german mines became the main source of silver in
europe and this came to be around the year of 600 BC.

Silver can be useful in many ways. Deodorant has silver chloride, which prevents body odor and
keeps the skin dry and free from sweat. Batteries have a silver ingredient that is useful. It is oxide
which makes them last for long periods of time. Lastly Detergent has the component of silver ions
which are released into the water to help eradicate bacteria and odor. It also provides antibiotic and
antifungal effects.
They are some pros and some cons for the element silver. They are 3 cons to silver, one would be
if silver liquid would come in contact with the eyes, it will irritate the eye and you can possibly
lose eyesight. The 2nd con is, is skin irritation by repeated contact and rubbing of the element on
the skin. The 3rd con is, its very hard to mine silver because its deep down in the earth and its
dangerous.
There are also pros to the use of the element silver. Silver is used to make coins and jewelry. Silver
is commonly used in electronics, because electricity flows better through silver. Silver can also
be used as medicine. A Silver nitrite stick is used to control bleeding by (cauterizing) the skin. It s
like burning the skin, but not in a bad way. Silver nitrite sticks can be used to remove warts and
skin tags too. Silver is found in a cream called silver silvadene, this cream is used for people who

College Debt Vs College Experience
College Debt vs The College Experience
Choosing a college is one of the most important decisions in a young adult s life. That is, of
course, if someone is going to college. For me, I m using my last year of high school to come to
the conclusion of where I want to attend college. There are plenty of college options, but I have
narrowed it to two colleges I would like to attend: Owens Community College and Bowling
Green State University. Owens and Bowling Green are both great options for me, but I believe I
would have a better time and experience if I went to Bowling Green because there are many
activities and extracurriculars that I could be in.
In all reality, Owens, financially, would be the best option for me. It is way cheaper, and a lot...

Jamaica Kincaid- Girl Essay
Jamaica Kincaid Girl The poem Girl by author Jamaica Kincaid shows love and family
togetherness by creating microcosmic images of the way mothers raise their children in order to
survive. Upon closer examination, the reader sees that the text is a string of images in Westerner
Caribbean family practices.
Jamaica Kincaid has taken common advice that daughters are constantly hearing from their mothers
and tied them into a series of commands that a mother uses to prevent her daughter from turning
into the slut that she is so bent on becoming (380). But they are more than commands; the phrases
are a mother s way of ensuring that her daughter has the tools that she needs to survive as an adult.
The fact that the mother takes the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story does not give evidence that men help the women with their chores, and this may also give
women cause for dissension and hostility. One of the major points of dissension in the story is the
daughter s two interjections into her mother s recitation. At both points, she tries to gain advantage
over her mother s advice by offering objections to her mother s words. Both times, the mother
merely continues her barrage of words without validating the girl s interjections. The mother, too,
constantly hints that the girl is intent upon becoming a slut, which creates even more dissension
and hostility between the two. At times in the story it seems as if the mother does not like the
daughter and is only giving her advice because it is her duty. It is hard to determine from the
dialogue anything other then the fact that the mother has placed intense demands on her daughter,
but that she does not feel that the daughter will become anything more than a slut.
As far back as bible times women and their daughters were taught to submit to the head of the
family for the rest of their lives. Ephesians 5:22 23 states:
Wives submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is
head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
The bible emphasizes the equality of wives to husbands but did not advise the overthrowing of the
head of the family. Still today in many other religions the wife is submissive to her

The United States Immigration And Immigrants In The 19th...
The United States immigration and emigration is closely linked to the history of railroads in the
19th century. The construction of the transcontinental railroads that facilitated western expansion
Immigrants were not only integral to part of the expansion, but they also used the railroad to
migrate west and to form new immigrant settlements and territories. In the early 19 century, United
Statesexpanded westward, across the Mississippi
River and later to the Pacific Ocean. These western lands, either was purchased, won in battles, or
seized outright from Indian tribes and other nations. For many years migrants came in search of
wealth and better opportunities and very often clashed either with Mexicans or Indians who
defended their homeland and traditions. From the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 through the
migration that resulted from the Transcontinental Railroad and the Homestead Act, Americans
engaged in what Theodore Roosevelt termed the Great Leap Westward. (Historynet.com). The
settlers were motivated to expand to the west after Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led the
expedition (1804 to 1806) through the Louisiana purchase territory that was acquired from France
in 1803. Their mission was assigned by President Thomas Jefferson with the intention to assess the
land s resources, make diplomatic contact with the Indians, and search for the Northwest Passage, a
route to the Pacific Ocean.
The railroads of the 19th century had transformed America in ways that

Comparison Between Hard Rock And Postmodernism
Sociology Nate McDonald
Between a Hard Rock and Postmodernism 9/17/12
I. What is the sociological question?
What are the features of postmodern spaces? II. What is the analytical approach?
Borchard s approach at the opening of the Hard Rock was a participant observation approach.
Borchard wanted to get into the Hard Rock CafГ© the opening night is Las Vegas because he
wanted to part of the concert, and the once in a lifetime experience like everyone else in line.
The line expanded around the 75ft spectacle of the Gibson guitar. Like everyone else, Borchard
wanted to be a part of the grand opening to the most iconic and well known Rock and Roll hot spot
now known. Borchard was looking to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The world is depending less and less on the individual and wants people to be more like society to
fit in and be how the bigger picture sees it, they want people to be seen as the famous people are
and rebel or look a certain way. If a normal man tried to get into the Hard Rock concert (like the
blonde man s friend) they were denied because their look wasn t right for the concert and
wouldn t be acceptable. Another man that Borchard talked to showed a way that society
changed. It s called a microwave relationship and that was when the man just opened up and told
Borchard his entire life story and he has never met the man before in his life. The man talked
about his whole crappy life to Borchard but he didn t care, he wasn t interested but this proved
another point of his. In the postmodern world people are becoming more and more open with
complete strangers. In result the things in the world weren t lasting people couldn t keep secrets
people just rambled on about anything and everything from their own lives even to others, and
didn t think twice about it. The new postmodern world was departing from morals and individual
expectations to gossip and looks. People now want to know and are willing to tell, people are not
individuals but seem to stray towards the actions of those who society now says we should act like.
The things in the world are

Texas Political Campaigns When running for any election in the U.S, it is a common belief that
you require spending a sizeable amount of money. Texas State is no different. A Texas Tribune
analysis established that there is no amount of campaign fund can guarantee an individual, victory

usually a negative stereotype of these interest groups. Furthermore, since I would join the

The Roaring Twenties Summary
The Roaring Twenties written by Joshua Zeitz exemplifies the 1920s as a time full of grace, but
not without its hardships. The author states that there was an era of liberation for women, and
many contemporary ideas were introduced. New ideals were being popularized and a different
generation was evolving, even with the disapproval of others. Although it was a glitzy and
glamorous time, the economy was being strained and eventually reached a breaking point. Even
though there was a depression in the beginning and the end of the 1920s, this period was met with
beauty, allure, and fascination.
The rise of female emancipation created a modern look for women. Flappers contributed to the
social aspect of the new democracy. Described as northern, urban, young, and single, these women
loved the nightlife. These girls enjoyed jazz clubs or vaudeville shows. A flapper was generally
characterized by short hair, lots of makeup, and short, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with these state of the art activities came a huge increase in citizens living in cities. For the
first time in America s history, more people were living in cities than on farms and villages.
Inventions like radio, car, and film in the late nineteenth to early twentieth centuries prospered in
the twenties. People had money to spend, and they spent it. Zeitz writes that ...theaters were selling
5 million tickets a week, a sum equal to roughly half the U.S. population! Like film, radio sales
boomed. The annual sales for radios were $852 million, and twelve million households owned them.
Even teenagers were embracing the freedom of the twenties. According to an interview done by
Robert and Helen Lynd, the top reasons for disagreement between high schoolers and their parents
was the number of times they could go out during the school week, the hour they came home, and

What Is A Freudian Analysis Of Young Goodman Brown
The Intellectual Appeasement for a Psychosexual Author:
A Freudian Analysis of Young Goodman Brown
Nathaniel Hawthorne, was an author in the 19th century. He grew up in Massachusetts, in the town
of Salem. Hawthorne s ancestral family was very influential, wealthy and viewed as upstanding
puritans. In fact, his great great grandfather held a pivotal role of a judge, during the 16th century,
Salem witch trials. Hawthorne strongly believed that the wrongdoing of one generation lives into
the successive ones (Quotery). That being said, he convinced himself to be the successor of his
family s puritanical behavior. While reading Hawthorne s literary work Young Goodman Brown , I
can infer the story s underlying motivation is driven by the author s guilt, for having puritan
ancestors. In addition, we must apply Sigmund Freud s psychoanalytic criticism to analyze
Hawthorne s literature. Sigmund Freud is the founding father of psychoanalytic criticism; whose
theories and practices provided him the foundation for his critical method. Freud believed people
had suppressed desires they unconsciously refused to confront. Thus, Freud concluded that the
unconscious component of a human s mind contains...[their] biographical memories but also
stores...[their] suppressed and unresolved conflicts (Bressler 125). For this reason, Hawthorne s
irrational thoughts and desires, become evident in his writing. For this purpose, I will apply Freud s
three part structural model, (the superego,

Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA)
The Electronic Communications Privacy Act ( ECPA ) was passed in 1986 to update the 1968 Title
III Wiretap Act, the federal statute that first prohibited the actual or intentional interception
communications without judicial authorization (Wiretap Act, 1968). The 1968 act only concerned
wire and oral communications; a wire communication was defined as any communication made in
whole or in part through the use of [common carrier] facilities for the [interstate or foreign]
transmission of communications by the aid of wire, cable, or other like connection between the
point of origin and the point of reception, and oral communication was defined as any oral
communication uttered by a person exhibiting an expectation [of privacy]. ECPA sought to amend
the Wiretap Act in order to accommodate privacy protections for the increasingly prolific use of
electronic devices in communications between citizens that do not apply to the original definitions
(Comm. on the Judiciary, 1986). ECPA consisted of three titles: the first title amended the 1968
Wiretap Act, the second title addressed stored communications, and the title addressed pen registers
and trap and trace devices. Title I of ECPA introduces the term electronic communication defined as
any communication not carried by sound waves and [those that] cannot fairly be categorized as
containing the human voice with four explicit exceptions to this definition (ECPA, 1986). The first
exception was for any wire and oral... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Most storyboards use clear, concise and easily understood statements to describe a problem, identify the cause(s), explain the solution and display the results. Often, pictures and graphs are used to show data, present results and demonstrate solutions. Furthermore, the QI Storyboardcan be used as an ongoing visual record of a team s progress. The QI Storyboard should include the following 7 components. When possible, each step should be expanded upon; explaining the methods used, and potential outcomes achieved. Step 1 Reason for Improvement. Step 1 determines if a problem exists. If it does, is it a temporary problem or is it a long term problem. The tool that is most useful in step 3 is the cause and effect or fishbone diagram. Furthermore, statistical experiments can be used to correlate relationships between identified factors with the results in the form of scatter plots. Step 4. Countermeasure. In Step 4, all possible changes are formulated, based on feasibility of the solution and the effectiveness it will have will upon the root cause factors that eliminate or significantly reduce the problem. Additionally, when addresses changes, we want to assess whether each change formulated is not only corrective in nature but preventative also. • 7. The Legacy Of The Lauren Rogers Museum The Lauren Rogers Museum is located in Laurel, Mississippi and was built in 1923. One unique characteristic about this museum is that has the Georgian Revival Style, which means if you were to cut the museum down the middle in equal halves each side would be identical. While touring the Lauren Rodgers Museum there were two separate collections that caught my eye. These collections consisted of the American and European collection. The American collection focuses primarily on portraiture. In the American Collection I chose a paintingby Jean MacLane called The Chintz Chair. MacLane was born on September 14, 1878 and died on January 23, 1964 in New Canaan, Connecticut. One of MacLane s first studies was at an Art Institute in Chicago with John Vanderpoel. MacLane and her husband, artist John C. Johansen (1876 1964) help found the National Foundation of Portrait Painters in 1912 (Jean 2015). The year of 1912 was considered to be MacLane s biggest year because she was recognized for many different awards. MacLane depicted the Allied Leaders from W.W.I., provided the only female subject, Queen Elisabeth of Belgian, and also became an associate member of the National Academy of Design. The main items that MacLane incorporates into her portraits are women and their children. In 1931, she was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letter (Jean 2015). But NaГЇve Bayes algorithm has the best result .Data mining approach are used to predict defects in software .We used NASA dataset namely, Data rive. Software metrics are also used to find defects. Keywords: NaГЇve Bayes algorithm, Software Metric, Solution Architecture,. I.INTRODUCTION According to [1], multiple algorithms are combined to show better prediction capability using votes. NaГЇve Bayes algorithm gives the best result if used individual than others. The contribution of this paper based on two reasons. Firstly, it provides a solution architecture which is based on software repository and secondly it provides benchmarks that provide an ensemble of data mining models in the defective module prediction problem and compare the result. Author used NASA dataset online [2] which contain five large software projects with thousands of modules. Bohem found 80/20 rule and about the half modules are defect free [3]. Fixing Defects in the operational phase is considerably more expensive than doing so in the development or testing phase. Cost escalation factors ranges from 5:1 to 100:1 [3]. As employees get older, job performance across various professional and non professional positions has been proven to hold steady (Judge and Judge, 2007, pg. 49 50). Despite evidence to the contrary, stereotypes and biased beliefs continue to permeate the information technology sector. This is partially due to the nature of the industry itself. Information technology companies are geared towards developing innovative technical products and services for businesses and consumers. Technology rapidly evolves and adapts to address society s needs. For instance, the telephone gave way to the facsimile machine. This soon became virtually obsolete with the introduction of newer technologies such as email and instant messaging (Charness, 2006). Companies within the IT sector seek to maintain a workforce that reflects the youth and vigor of their technology. Sylvia Francis, a researcher of age discrimination, notes, These industries are looking to match staff with their perceived young image, and once you hit 40 you no longer fit (Computer Weekly, 2006). Older workers also tend to shun job postings or interviews referring to young, dynamic organizations or projects, as these descriptors infer an environment that prefers youth rather than experience (Goodwin, 2006). • 20. Oregon Trail Dbq Essay Approximately 20,000 people died while traveling on the Oregon Trail. Which took place in the mid 1840s, when Americans started seeking economic success by moving westward. The justification for the expansion was due to weakness in the Mexican government and economy. Since Americans regarded Mexicans as inferior, despite the statement, made by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence, that All men are created equal , many of the citizens thought that the Mexican citizens did not deserve to keep their lands. America was not justified in its western expansion due to the lack of morality behind putting one person s comfort above the safety of another. The amount of people who died on the Oregon trail, is nearly enough evidence to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although men often rejoiced in the idea of a new adventure for a chance at economic success, many women felt that the traveling was too much of a gamble as they focused more on the highly relevant hardships they would be facing. The next piece of evidence, that supports both the overall claim and the hardships, is that on the Oregon Trail, emigrants faced hunger, exposure to the elements, poisoned water, and some of them even resulted in some cannibalism. The cannibalism, assuming they survived long enough for the effects to take place, would have most likely caused a prion disease which symptoms would have included memory loss, changes in behavior and mood, and dementia. Arguably this would have been a worse outcome than the eminent death some emigrants faced. One of the main reasons Americans decided to travel westward was to find prosperity and success, also known as the American Dream, however some might argue that taking one group of people s (the American emigrants) comfort, over the safety of another (the native Americans and Mexicans they stole the land from) is highly immoral. In fact the modern day group The United Nations is saying, that the US should release some of the stolen land back to Native Americans. The reason for the referral to the land as stolen, is due to the fact that even though Native Americans hardly ever attacked the American wagons moving west, the government decided to continue to restrict Native territories eventually leading to future ... • 23. Prayer In The Poetry Of George Herbert And Gerard Manley... If two poems about prayer are laid side by side, logic and statistics would state that the two poems should be somewhat alike in content. Prayer is supposed to be a universally mutual sensation among all people of the world. Prayer is also normally seen in a good light with a positive reputation. Prayer known to be a helpful tool to seek aid from or send thanks to the deity of the devotee s choice. Openly criticizing prayer in writing or verse is not a common phenomenon. George Herbert and Gerard Manley Hopkinstook the matter into their own hands and broke from the crowd. Both poets expressed extreme opinions and recorded their experiences and thoughts of prayer. Though both poems share the same base topic, their content and opinion varies. One undeniable characteristic both poems share is that the poets are obviously giving commentary on prayer and God himself. The major difference between these two poems lies in their feelings on their selected subject matter. Herbert s poem makes him sound hurt by God. He states O that thou schouldst give dust a tongue / to crie to thee, / And then note heare it crying! all day long / My heart was in my knee, / But no hearing. (16 20). Herbert is arguing to God that he gave humans tongues with which to pray and cry out to him, though he does not respond. He mentions his knees, too. Knees are typically what people in prayer fall onto in respect and awe or, in Herbert s case, desperation and fear. Herbert repeats the phrase But no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Governments Should be Responsible for Cleaning up Environmental Hazards from Previous Resource Use The responsibility of dealing with environmental hazards resulting from earlier resource use and environmental standards that are no longer acceptable today should be devoted in its entirety to different forms of government whether that be the federal, provincial or municipal level. This paper will discuss that only governments have enough money and resources available to adequately and efficiently clean up environmental hazards earlier caused. The paper will then present that it is unfair to punish innocent civilians living in areas that are environmentally hazardous plagued with poor air quality, unsafe and unusable drinking or bathing water. Furthermore the paper will state that biodiversity of such hazardous regions drastically reduces from poor water and air quality will be discussed. • 32. Examples Of Masculinity In Shakespeare s Plays In the plays of William Shakespeare, male characters often express their masculinity through their relationships with other characters. This masculinity often appears through the control they try to force upon the other characters. In each of Shakespeare s plays, this control appears in various capacities. In William Shakespeares histories, conflicting masculinities are presented and the characters, especially the title heroes, are forced to assert their masculinity. This can be seen in such histories such as Henry V and Richard III as each of their masculine expressions are challenged by outside forces. Shakespeare s histories heavily rely on the concept of masculinity through a royal lineage that is controlled by patriarchal ancestry. However, these historical accounts merely account for a single side of the story when in fact there were many more events to be shared. The textbooks tilt the perspective of the important events to show the Americans as winners. They do not show triumphs against the U.S. or times when our people were defeated as much as they do the victorious moments, for that would display weakness. Word count: 3,132 John Goulder! 1 пїјIntroduction: Mental Health as Disparate Social Object Antipsychiatry was as much a cultural phenomenon as an academic or institutional one. Whilst the work of Laing (1960) and Szasz (1960) can be rooted in the Fruedo Marxist methodological individualism of critical theory (Rogers Pilgrim, 2010: 14), or even a broader constructionist critique of medical truth, it just as easily lends itself to a more limited historicist Libertarian reading: mental illness as socio political deviance within an encroaching state (Sumner, 1994). Within this interface must be located the panoply of iconographic representation (Shorter, 1997: 273) within wider mass culture: Sumner cites the example of Ken Kesey s One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest as salacious and sensational as it may be which became, for a generation, a precipitation of populist anti sentiment towards psychiatric institutions and their operative physicians. It is clear then that the dialectic of mind and its healer transcends theoretical partitions, spans academic disciplines, and crosses the great divide to take up its place within the popular consciousness. What most of these people do not realize is that a simple flight is in reality a well oiled, complex machine unlike any other air navigation service provider in the world. After the Wright brothers took their first successful flight, America embraced air travel. The Federal Aviation Agency (now Administration) officially began operations in May of 1958, and later developed a sophisticated air traffic control system that is responsible for the largest volume of air traffic in the world ( A Brief History of the FAA ). Today, however, many politicians believe that government involvement in air traffic control is inhibiting the overall performance of air traffic control. Several bills have been proposed to Congress since the 1970s in attempt to separate air traffic control (referenced as ATC) from the FAA by privatization, corporatization, or other means (Elias 2). The most recent of these bills has caused serious debate in the aviation world over economic policies, safety regulations, and overall effectiveness of the current ATC system. The Aviation Innovation, Reform, and Reauthorization Act (21st Century AIRR Act) as proposed by Representative Bill Shuster should not be passed by Congress because it would privatize air traffic control by removing it from the Federal Aviation Administration. So where is the ideal place to go for vacation then? There are several factors that go into deciding where to go like price, weather, and activities. Well in my opinion, the ideal location would be on the coast of Florida, specifically Sarasota, Florida due to it having everything one can achieve out of a vacation. The white beaches of Sarasota are astounding. White beaches aren t as common as the classic yellow beach, making Sarasota s quite unique. When the weather is just right, Sarasota beach can become a paradise for its guests. This beach is aimed at families since they are less crowded, making it more fitting for kids. There is sufficient space for everybody to easily unwind at the beach. The water at the beach is tidy and the soft sand warms one feet. • 45. What Is The Reflection Of African American Literature Ever since I took Hip Hop Cinema last semester with Dr. Tani Sanchez I have been greatly interested in African American writing and African American culture in general. This course has allowed me to become a more cultured and informed person which I believe is a character trait that is vital in current day society. This piece of writing will further explain why I have found this African Americanliterature course so interesting and describe memorable things in this course have made me have strong feelings and then I will relate those interests and feelings to pieces of literature that we have read throughout the course of the semester in order to tie those interests and feelings to some examples and personal memories. I believe that the things which I saw as memorable throughout the course will stick with me long after finals week due to the fact that they are vital to being an inclusive and understanding culture in my opinion. The most memorable things that I will take away from this course are how poorly the views towards African Americans have been and still tend to be, how the Harlem Renaissance was able to play such a big part in the history of African American culture, and how African American writers were able to showcase a sense of revolution within their specific pieces of writing. The most memorable thing I took from this course was with regards to how African Americans have been viewed throughout American history in popular culture, this course has really been able to show me how poorly African Americans were viewed by people who were not part of the diverse African American culture. Over the course of the semester as we saw this theme over and over again, it was clear that I felt a sense of anger over learning about how poorly African Americans have been viewed in society and that has led me to sad about how so many people could have such a negative view on a group of people that live on the same streets in the same cities as they do. The piece of writing which I would like to compare this memorable part of the course is Going To Meet The Man by James Baldwin. Upon closer examination, the reader sees that the text is a string of images in Westerner Caribbean family practices. Jamaica Kincaid has taken common advice that daughters are constantly hearing from their mothers and tied them into a series of commands that a mother uses to prevent her daughter from turning into the slut that she is so bent on becoming (380). But they are more than commands; the phrases are a mother s way of ensuring that her daughter has the tools that she needs to survive as an adult. The fact that the mother takes the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The story does not give evidence that men help the women with their chores, and this may also give women cause for dissension and hostility. One of the major points of dissension in the story is the daughter s two interjections into her mother s recitation. At both points, she tries to gain advantage over her mother s advice by offering objections to her mother s words. Both times, the mother merely continues her barrage of words without validating the girl s interjections. The mother, too, constantly hints that the girl is intent upon becoming a slut, which creates even more dissension and hostility between the two. At times in the story it seems as if the mother does not like the daughter and is only giving her advice because it is her duty. It is hard to determine from the dialogue anything other then the fact that the mother has placed intense demands on her daughter, but that she does not feel that the daughter will become anything more than a slut. As far back as bible times women and their daughters were taught to submit to the head of the family for the rest of their lives. Ephesians 5:22 23 states: Wives submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. The author states that there was an era of liberation for women, and many contemporary ideas were introduced. New ideals were being popularized and a different generation was evolving, even with the disapproval of others. Although it was a glitzy and glamorous time, the economy was being strained and eventually reached a breaking point. Even though there was a depression in the beginning and the end of the 1920s, this period was met with beauty, allure, and fascination. The rise of female emancipation created a modern look for women. Flappers contributed to the social aspect of the new democracy. What Is A Freudian Analysis Of Young Goodman Brown The Intellectual Appeasement for a Psychosexual Author: A Freudian Analysis of Young Goodman Brown Nathaniel Hawthorne, was an author in the 19th century. He grew up in Massachusetts, in the town of Salem. Hawthorne s ancestral family was very influential, wealthy and viewed as upstanding puritans. In fact, his great great grandfather held a pivotal role of a judge, during the 16th century, Salem witch trials. Hawthorne strongly believed that the wrongdoing of one generation lives into the successive ones (Quotery). That being said, he convinced himself to be the successor of his family s puritanical behavior. While reading Hawthorne s literary work Young Goodman Brown , I can infer the story s underlying motivation is driven by the author s guilt, for having puritan ancestors. In addition, we must apply Sigmund Freud s psychoanalytic criticism to analyze Hawthorne s literature. Sigmund Freud is the founding father of psychoanalytic criticism; whose theories and practices provided him the foundation for his critical method. Freud believed people had suppressed desires they unconsciously refused to confront. Thus, Freud concluded that the unconscious component of a human s mind contains...[their] biographical memories but also stores...[their] suppressed and unresolved conflicts (Bressler 125). The 1968 act only concerned wire and oral communications; a wire communication was defined as any communication made in whole or in part through the use of [common carrier] facilities for the [interstate or foreign] transmission of communications by the aid of wire, cable, or other like connection between the point of origin and the point of reception, and oral communication was defined as any oral communication uttered by a person exhibiting an expectation [of privacy]. ECPA sought to amend the Wiretap Act in order to accommodate privacy protections for the increasingly prolific use of electronic devices in communications between citizens that do not apply to the original definitions (Comm. on the Judiciary, 1986). ECPA consisted of three titles: the first title amended the 1968 Wiretap Act, the second title addressed stored communications, and the title addressed pen registers and trap and trace devices.
