Media Bias In The Media Essay
During former U.S president, Barack Obamas presidency, he administrated the Affordable Care Act.
Under the Affordable Care Act, women could receive free birth control. Employers were required to
cover all forms of birth control. On October 6th, Donald Trump issued a ruling that would allow
employers and corporations to drop the coverage of birth control if they had religious or moral reasons
to do so. This ruling has sparked a variety of responses. Many liberals are calling it an attack on
women while religious and conservative groups are happy that they don t have to go against their
religious beliefs anymore. The media and news sources were quick to report on this event. However,
some news sources have spun the story in certain ways in order to fit their agenda. The New York
Times and Fox News both twist this event to appeal to certain audiences using bias by headline,
omission, and choice of words while the Kaiser Family Foundation stays neutral. Mass
communication outlets have become fundamental parts of modern society in the recent years.
Americans rely on these media outlets to stay updated on the worlds issues. However, these outlets
know exactly how to shape and influence people inconspicuously. The News often caters to certain
groups and the truth is usually dismissed. Instead of being informed about the important issues, the
media tends to focus on entertaining topics. Most Americans are not aware that their views are being
dictated by the media and the

Philosophy of Behaviorism
Philosophy of Behaviorism
Tammie Williams
Columbia College
Abstract
For hundreds of years there has been a fascination on how humans behave and how humans learn.
This has been observed and studied by psychologists, educators, and scientists by means of humans
and animals and how they perform in different environments. This fascination is known as
behaviorism. This aspect of behaviorism deals with how a humans or animals respond to a certain
stimuli and how a new behavior is then developed. This paper will address the philosophy of
behaviorism, the great contributors to behaviorism and their aspects of behavioral learning such as
classical conditioning and operant conditioning.

Psychoanalysis is a school of thought that was founded by Sigmund Freud. This theory focuses on that
behavior is influenced by the unconscious mind. Freud felt that the human mind was made up of three
elements which include the id, the ego, and the superego. Eric Erikson, Carl Jung, and Anna Freud
were also psychoanalysis thinkers. Humanistic psychology was developed as a response to
behaviorism and psychoanalysis. Individual free will, self actualization and personal growth were
focused on by humanistic psychology. Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow were amongst the major
humanistic psychology thinkers. Gestalt psychology is based upon that people experience things as
unified wholes. This approach started in the late 19th century in Austria and Germany. This approach
was a response to molecular approach of structuralism (Cherry, 2005). Gestalt psychologists felt
things must be looked at as a whole rather than breaking the thought down. They believed that a whole
is more than just the sum of its parts. Cognitive psychology is a school of thought which studies the
mental process including how we remember, think, perceive, and learn. Philosophy, neuroscience, and
linguistics are disciplines that are related to this branch of psychology. The stages of cognitive
development theory by Jean Piaget were amongst the most influential theories from cognitive
psychology.

Subway Innovation Report
Subway Innovation Report
Subway is the name of a franchise fast food restaurant that mainly sells sandwiches and salads. It was
founded in 1965 by Fred De Luca and Peter Buck. The corporation that owns the trademarked name of
Subway is Doctor s Associates, Inc. (DAI). The company has over 28,400 franchised units in 87
countries as of September 2007 and is the fastest growing franchise in the world. It is currently the
third largest fast food chain globally after YUM! Brands (34,000 sites) and McDonalds (31,000 sites).
In this Essay I will be generating my argument that Subway is an example of innovation in action

This also leaves chains such as KFC being the late majority and late adopters when placed in to the
diffusion of innovation model as I did with Subway, since most of the day to day business situations
can be seen by franchisees who are very hands on KFC have put them self at a loss by not listening to
their franchisees. Being the late majority and late adopters they represent a group which are slower
and more content to see how the market develops, they want more reassurance about the benefits and
worth of making changes, they can in some cases be very averse to change and have therefore resisted
adopting new techniques in marketing, promotion and development. On the flip side KFC s more
sceptical out look has allowed them to maintain their market position, by being more traditional in
their approach they don t stand risking failure and financial losses which can sometimes occur from
innovation when a lot is invested on research of development which don t then translate in to profits
for the chain.

Andrew Murdock s Tree Army
In 1935 a young man from New Jersey, by the name of Andrew Murdock is inducted into Roosevelts
Tree Army , also known as the CCC, civilian conservation corps which began in 1933 by executive
orders 6101 and 6129. Murdock wrote in his diary of his personnel accounts and day to day life while
in the CCC. His diaries start in New jersey, riding cross country to Virgilia, CA where he reports for
duty to Company F55. Unbeknownst to Murdock he has played a vital role in the preservation of
history, conservation of land and the organization of the state park systems for Arkansas and across
America, as well as multiple offshoots to the original project for conservation of land.

In the beginning, according to Robert Fletcher, director of CCC objectives and results report from
1938 digital archives. There were close to 300,00 men enrolled . These men lived and worked closed
to their camps across the country building roads, dams, clearing land, planting trees, making trails, fire
prevention, forestry service, lookout towers and infrastructures at national and state parks. Mt Nebo,
one of Arkansas first state parks had CCC company 1780 V which was a group of veterans from
southern states worked to build Mt Nebo s historical cabins, hiking trails, fire pits, roads, pavilions
and bridges. Four cabins and a bridge are now registered on the national historical places of Arkansas
(see copy of document on next page). In all there were 105 projects and or camps across Arkansas
according to archives on The legacy of the CCC. Each one of these projects by the CCC contributes to
historical preservation, conservation, the organization and development of both Arkansas state parks
and national park systems. There are thousands of pages written in dedication to these men and their
efforts created by a social need to put men back to work during the depression. The CCC s stories and
legacies are well document through history, as it changed and formed our countryside. FDR claimed
that as the country grew the population migrated across the land to reap its benefit, in doing so
Americans also destroyed the land without regard for future. Another way to view the CCC project
was an effort to revitalize what we had taken from the land and preserve it for future generations, in
doing so it also provided jobs, education, skills, protection and

Limitations Of Internet Advertising
Introduction In early days of the Internet, governments did not allow online advertising. Two of the
predecessor networks to the Internet, ARPANET and NSFNet, had acceptable use policies this ban
network use for commercial activities by for profit institutions . However, in 1991, NSFNet began
phasing out its commercial use ban.
Using the internet to advertise is a relatively new phenomenon. Many businesses are moving away, or
have moved away from traditional advertising, where viewers see a thirty second ad on television
during prime time or during a sporting event. Advertisers find this costly and the Ads do not reach as
large an audience in a convenient time as advertising on the Web does.
Web advertising is becoming, and has become, technically an inevitable part of our life. The size and
range of online advertisement is increasing dramatically. Businesses are spending more on online
advertisement than before. Understanding the factors that influence online advertisement effectiveness
is crucial. An internet broadcast model is what many major advertisers have been waiting for. They
want to make Internet advertising more like television advertising. Actually, they want to make it
better than TV advertising; they want all visuals influence of traditional broadcast with the additional
value of interactivity.
The goal of advertisers is to make their ads more involving. (Porter) Interactive advertising allows
customers to become more involved because they initiate

What Cats Should Eat Essay
Many cat owners assume they know what their beloved cats are supposed to eat by reading the
nutrition label on the cat food bags and comparing to what they know about basic human nutrition.
But is that really what they should be doing? The nutrients that cats need is different from what
humans need, and by imposing a cat owner s nutritional views on their cat may be unfair to the cat s
health. What cats eat has a huge effect on the quality of the cat s life. A cat s diet is affected by
commercial cat food makers and cat owners. A bad decision on their behalf can lead to deadly
consequences for the cat. Most domestic cats are fed generic cat food from the local grocery or pet
stores. Others are fed the usually more expensive food from the ... Show more content on

Another study that was conducted in 2012 found that it didn t matter how the cat obtained the
nutrients, but that cats preferred food with more nutrients than food with less nutrients. These cats
were feed liquid nutritional supplement (Vebrugghe). Since cats prefer more nutritious food, it is
probably safe to assume that they know on an evolutionary level that more nutrients are better for
them than fewer nutrients. In the 1958 study, once a cat became sick, the scientists attempted to bring
the cats back to health. The cats that developed severe anorexia died, but the cats who suffered only
from hair loss had their fur grow back once the removed riboflavin was replaced in their diets
(Gershoff). The study also found that cataracts could be developed in cats from a lack of
carbohydrates in their diets (Gershoff). Now more than ever is a good time to learn about the dangers
of malnutrition in cats because human fad diets are often pushed onto the family cat as well. Vegan
diets can be devastating to one s health if the proper vitamins and supplements are not taken. Most
amino acids that humans need come from meats and many fruits and vegetables hold very little true
nutritional value to the human diet. The same is true for cats however there is one major difference:
humans are omnivores, cats are not. Cats are carnivores, which means that they only eat meat (Veggie
Cat Food). They are not evolutionarily suited to eat

Frequency-Following Response Paper
The paper illustrates the differences among individuals in the Frequency following response (FFR)
and its connection with pitch perception. Generally, the FFR is presumed to introduce the pitch of a
particular sound perceived by individuals. FFR varies among individuals and the reason of this
variability is still unknown. However, the authors of this paper carried out the investigation to find out
the relation between FFR representation of the frequency of a complex tune and perception of the
pitch of the fundamental frequency.
The FFR to complex sounds varies between all individuals with same characteristics and healthy body.
This gives rise to a question about FFR and its contribution in auditory system such as how auditory
information and cognitive progression is followed by FFR and how these processes are transformed
into behavior tasks which then results in distinguished pathology and health conditions.

Technical Innovation, Policy Making And Industrial Strategy
Recommendations
While Autonomous car presents enormous potential and benefits, there is a long way to go before we
achieve fully self driving automation. Going forward, there are three areas we would like to advise on:
technical innovation, policy making and industrial strategy.
Firstly, there have been active innovations in modular functionalities. In the technologies list below,
most of them are still in the early stage of the S curve and it will take long time for the trial, testing
and adoption (for example, it took almost 50 years for the complete adoption of airbags), especially
when safety is the number one concern in the automobile sector. Therefore, open and continuous
innovation is the essence to improve functionality, technical performance and reliability, and to
address technical issues.
Automatic braking: it senses an imminent distance with another vehicle or a velocity related danger
and responds either by pre charging the brakes or by applying the brakes to slow the vehicle without
any driver input.
Electronic Stability control: a computerized technology improves vehicle s stability by detecting and
minimizing skids. It automatically applies the brakes and helps to minimize a loss of control. ESC
compares the driver s intended direction to the vehicles actual direction.
Automatic cruise control: it keeps the car at a constant speed by taking over the throttle of the car. It
also maintains a set of distance between it and the car in front. It needs a

Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants Essay
Katherine Escobar Professor. Riobueno ENC1102 12/11/16 Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White
Elephants Ernest Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants is a story about two characters on their
journey in the valley of Spain. They are deciding whether or not to make an abortion, which is
indirectly implied on the narrative. Hemingway has a specific way of creating the story that it
becomes apparent that every description he used is a symbol of the plot. Through this way of
storytelling, Hemingway created an adamant and very relatable narrative that exposes human truths,
emotions, and the confusion that is inherent in the different situations and conditions which people
have over their lives. The plot opens with an extended description of the scenery found in the setting
of the story. As the characters will travel by train, Hemingway used this to formulate the description of
the setting and to organize the concept of the story. He orders two beers from the bartender one for
him and one for the girl, whom he calls Jig. It is implied that the American and the girl have a
relationship, and they are traveling somewhere to do something. They talk about an operation, which
the American tells the girl that she will feel better and they will live happily together afterward. The
American also shows the girl how much he cares for her, and the girl looks at the scenery of the
station. They argue, and the girl feels tired, and this makes the American to stop talking. The story

U.S. Involvement in 1st Persian Gulf War
One of the good things about the way the Gulf War ended in 1991 is, you d see the Vietnam veterans
marching with the Gulf War veterans (George H. W. Bush). President Bush stated that the Persian Gulf
War was not fully supported by the soldiers who fought in the war. Gulf War veterans marched like
Vietnam veterans because they also viewed the war as unjustified. Persian Gulf War veterans would
say, American soldiers lost their lives for oil. The first Persian Gulf War started from August 2, 1990
and ended on February 28, 1991. This war began by the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq. During this
invasion some of the oil fields of Kuwait were set on fire and some of the oil spilled to the Persian
Gulf. The Persian Gulf was the oil supplier for western countries. So anything happened to the Persian
Gulf, the western countries will naturally react. The factors that led to The United States involvement
in the first Persian Gulf War included Saddam Hussein s invasion of Kuwait, his control over a sizable
share of the world s oil reserves and his power over the economies of the world. Many Americans
believe that the first Persian Gulf War was not necessary for the United States.

Rebates are often referred to as agency volume bonification which is defined as an agency s receipt of
a volume discount or compensation from media buys that is not necessarily passed on to the client
(Bruell, 2012). 1.1. Successfulness of Rebates Successful discount or rebate programs can empower
an organization. A successful rebate program must have a perceived notion of value in order to attract
consumers. Rebate programs typically work best with durable goods and higher ticket items. If the
value of the rebate is considered high, then the chances of redemption will be undoubtedly greater
(Dennin, 2012). In a competitive business environment, incentives such as rebates can provide a
business with a much needed sales advantage. Rebates can increase customer satisfaction, build
customer loyalty, and encourage customers to try new products. There are many factors that can affect
the success rate of a rebate program (Inmar, 2011). Inmar suggests that these factors indeed affect the
success rate of a rebate program: The value of a rebate; The time and effort required to redeem the
rebate; The complexity of the rebate requirements; The consumer s previous experience with rebates;
The brand s presence It is reported that almost 50% of retailers and 48% of manufacturers use rebates
programs as part of their customer loyalty and promotions mix (Group, 2011). To be successful,

knowledge of the world they lived in. In this time period the Europeans circum navigated Africa,
located the territories of the West Indies and basically redrew the map of the world. All these things
had one thing in common; they were the result of extensive Atlantic maritime exploration. The reasons
that European engaged in such aggressive exploration in 15th century can be attributed to several
factors. These factors can be grouped into three major headings, technological and ... Show more

Thus each time a new tax was applied to the goods the Moslem merchants raised the price at which
they would sell the goods at to recoup their expenses. Therefore as the Italian merchants had to cover
their expenses that raised the prices of the goods also. This fact proved economically unacceptable to
the other European merchants. The high cost of purchasing these goods made European merchants
willing to fund exploration to find an alternate route to the goods of India. The merchants believed
that by finding the alternate route they could remove the middle men from the process of obtaining the
goods and also as the route would not have to go through any other kingdom the goods would not be
subjected to the taxation with increased the price it cost to obtain the goods. Therefore by obtaining
the goods at a cheaper price the merchant realized they would gain vastly increased profits. Similarly
it was not only merchants that saw the importance of finding and controlling a shorter route to the
riches of Africa and India. Nations also saw the great benefits controlling such routes would bring to
them. This was the principle reason that nations such as Portugal and Spain pursued maritime
exploration. Portugal had to engage in this activity due to the fact that they did not have the natural
resources in Portugal to engage in empire building. Prince Henry the

What Is The Code Of Chivalry In Le Morte D Arthur
While talking about of the Middle Ages, knights in shining armor are one the first things that come to
mind. These great men have become staples of that time period, and it would hard to picture medieval
times without them. These knights had to follow an intricate set of rules, known as the code of
chivalry. This code included many heroic qualities and represented an idealized man. Sir Thomas
Malory s Le Morte D Arthur is a perfect example of how this code was used.
Being appointed a knight was a very serious affair. These knights were expected to have all the traits
of a good man. They had to be courteous to women, loyal to their king, and keep their faith in God. If
they failed to honor the code of chivalry, they faced public humiliation

The Themes In The Time Machine By H. G. Wells
One night, I heard loud tapping noises, I got up because of the noise and I thought I needed to
investigated. At this point, I m walking up the stairs and I see a large shadow coming from the
window. I slowly walk over to the window and the noise is getting louder. I look up in the window and
I see a person. I look closer and I see it was actually just my dad outside taking a call and the tapping
has from my dog s tail hitting the window, who was outside with him. The Time Machine by H.G.
Wells is about The Time Traveller, who created a time machine and wanted to explore the future.
When he got there, society looked peaceful and great, but after he discovered the morlocks and he
realized society was falling apart in the future. So, he realized he needed to go back to his time and
then the story ends with him joining his friends at dinner. The theme best presented in The Time
Machine by H.G. Wells is that things aren t always what they appear to be.
The theme in The Time Machine is that things aren t always as they seem. First, the text points out
that the world was too perfect to The Time Traveller. According to The Time Machine by H.G. Wells it
states, The too perfect security of the Upper worlders had led them to a slow movement of
degeneration, to a general dwindling in size, strength, and intelligence. This is when The Time
Traveller is describing the world to his audience. This supports that the world up there was too perfect.
This supports the theme because it shows

Ancient Greek Clothing
The dress was the primary way for individuals to display their identity and perform social functions in
various communities. Ancient Greek garments are crucial to demonstrate the Greek society s values.
As the number of complete garments survived in the archeological records is limited extremely, it is
difficult for contemporary scholars to investigate their authenticity. Therefore, representations of
garments in sculpture and vase painting become the crucial evidences. The fundamental characteristics
of ancient Greek clothing are its loose and graceful drapery. Clothes that resemble corsets and trousers
are disgusted in ancient Greece, because barbarians were the only wearers at that time. Even though
Greek garments seem to offer its wearer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Strophion While women s breasts were sexualized to an extreme in modern society, the baring breasts
only evoked pity in ancient Greece. What s more, eyes and hair have more erotic connotations. The
Greeks preferred small, firm, and round breasts, rather than the spongy ones. Strophion functioned as
the breast band. The original explanation for this undergarment was uncertain, as very few evidence of
the strophion survived, and the visual sources were difficult to identify. According to existing vase
painting and sculpture, the breasts were either presented without any covering, or revealing the
silhouette. Mortal women who wore breast band were dancers and entertainers. Embroidered patterns
and skinny straps crossing over the chest decorated the breast band as a distinguished form of costume
that aimed to be displayed blatantly at that time. In any case, breasts should be covered in a decent
way. This type of band became popular in Hellenistic art, especially in erotic pictures and images of
Aphrodite . In figure 3, a woman, probably Aphrodite, is (un)dressing in front of two female

Poor Living Conditions In The 1800s
In the 1800s and 1900s one problem was the poor living conditions in New York City and other cities.
In the 19th century, more and more people began crowding including immigrants seeking a better life
than the one they left behind. In New York City, buildings that had once been single family dwellings
were increasingly divided into multiple living spaces (known as tenements) to accommodate this
growing population. These buildings were most often cramped from the number of people who lived
there, poorly lit and and lacked indoor plumbing and proper ventilation.
Jacob August Riis was a Danish American social reformer, muckraking journalist and social
documentary photographer. He is known for using his photographic and journalistic talents to help the
impoverished in New York City. While living in New York, Riis experienced poverty and so he
attempted to reduce the bad living conditions of poor people by exposing their living conditions to the
middle and upper classes.
In 1890, Jacob Riis published his most famous work, How the Other Half Lives, a book that used

Should Flag Desecration Be Allowed
Protesting is one of the many freedoms of being an American citizen. Although there are freedoms, I
believe flag desecration shouldn t be allowed as a form of protest. Flag desecration should not be
allowed because it is very disrespectful toward our veterans and our country, and it shows how you
abuse your rights and freedoms as a citizen. Veterans fight and die for the freedoms and rights that the
people of the United States have which is why one should never disrespect an American veteran.
Veterans fight for that flag everyday of their lives because war sticks with them forever. If you are
disrespecting the American flag, then you are disrespecting our veterans. Flag desecration can affect
some veterans and hurt them a lot. When they realize they fought for and protected people that don t
give anything back to them but disrespect, it can hurt a lot. Flag desecration not only shows disrespect
towards our veterans, but it shows disrespect towards our whole country. ... Show more content on

Modern Day Temperature Measurement Devises And Their Uses
Relevance
Three examples of modern day temperature measurement devises and their uses:
Scientific Theory
 Explain the science behind how a mercury thermometer works using the particle model.
When a mercury thermometer or any type of thermometer comes into contact with a heated or cooled
object the kinetic energy of the molecules of the thermometer heats o cools to match the objects
temperature. The thermometer normally has a liquid substance such as mercury or alcohol that will
expand when heated. The molecules move faster taking up more space causing the liquid in the
thermometer to expand and rise to show the liquids substance temperature. Also the molecules bounce
against each other harder and harder which is pushing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first thermometer used had the same basics as today using a glass test tube and mercury or
coloured alcohol.
The draw backs of the thermometer went back to 400 years ago when the inventor Galileo created a
thermometer to measure the temperature of water.
 What is the difference between a thermoscope and a thermometer?
The difference between thermoscope and a thermometer is that a thermometer measures heat and has a
scale that determines the actual temperature where as a thermoscope is an earlier version of a
thermometer which doesn t have a scale which meant that you could only tell that the temperature was
decreasing or increasing. Also a thermoscope doesn t let you know the actual temperature which
means in experiments if you use a thermoscope the experiment will not be accurate.
 Explain how the Fahrenheit scale was developed and when.
The Fahrenheit scale was invented by a German physicist named Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit who the
scale was named after. In 1714 the first modern thermometer as developed which was the mercury
thermometer with more advanced measurements than all of the other thermometers created. The
original Fahrenheit scale was not entirely accurate because it did not give an accurate calibrate. The
Fahrenheit temperature scale ranged from 212 degrees (boiling point of water on this scale) to 32
degrees (boiling point on

Providing the tools and systems required for leading a measurement managed HR architecture, this
important book heralds the emergence of human resources as a strategic powerhouse in todays
organizations. Three experts in the field outline a powerful measurement system that highlights the
indisputable role HR can play as both a prime source of sustainable competitive advantage and a key
driver of value creation. They draw from an ongoing study of nearly 3,000 firms to outline a seven
step process they call an HR Scorecard, specifically designed to embed human resources systems

This presents an interesting dilemma: The asset which is most important is the least understood, least
prone to measurement, and, hence least susceptible to management. He goes on to commend the co
authors of The HR Scorecard for three specific contributions: their development of causal models
which illustrate the relationship of HR value drivers with business outcomes and thereby take the
Balanced Scorecard to the next level of sophistication; their research on the drivers of
highperformance organizations to provide a framework to decision makers with which to formulate
and implement strategies for human capital growth; and finally, their insights into the competencies
required by HR professionals, competencies which can enabler an organization to deliver on the
promise of its measurement system. In essence, the co authors of The HR Scorecard identify and
explain linkages indeed the interdependence between and among people, strategy, and performance.
Only by understanding these linkages and their independence can decision makers in any organization
(regardless of size or nature) accurately measure the nature, value, and impact of human capital on the
bottom line. Moreover, decision makers can then make much more accurate measurement of each

The Invention Of A Handheld Electric Mixer
In the beginning of time mixers were not electrical like they are now a days really easy for people to
use. The egg beaters were hand cranked, Hand cranks don t require electricity, there is a handle you
hold it with and a little knob that you twist so it could mix the ingredients together. In 1856, a
Maryland Tinner named Ralph Collier was the man who invented hand cranked egg beaters. The hand
cranked egg beaters were used by hand nothing electrical in them, but a more years went by people
started inventing so much more mixers and they were electrical of different kind. A handheld electric
mixer is basically an electrical mixer that has a handle and someone holds it while the mixer is mixing
the eggs and other things. Mixers are of course something used in the kitchen and only the kitchen.
People or chiefs use it for baking because it makes the dough in a better smoother texture than if it
was hand mixed. A classical American mixer brand is Dover stamping company, the company bought
the patent egg beaters in 1859. An American man named Rufus Eastman invented the first mixer
which was in 1885. The first man to invent electric mixer was named Herbert Johnson that was in
1908. His whole idea started from basically watching television, there was a baker who was making
dough with a spoon that is how his idea was formed. There were electrical mixers before but they
were hand mixers that used electricity. The electric mixes he made were mostly for bakers with

Travelling to a foreign country and learning the language by a native citizen is one way to learn it.
This is the way the author learns it and in Me talk pretty one day we read about his experiences with a
native teacher. David Sedaris tells the story of how he tried to learn French and therefore travelled to

time and makes it better and educational. He and the other students did not believe that any of them
would ever improve. A lot of time went and he had a hard time seeing things on the bright side. Even
though he did not understand every word in the beginning he kept studying and because of his awful
French teacher he decided to study even harder and because of this he one day realizes that he
understood every word she said to him. This positive response of his work makes it easy to understand
what he wants to tell the reader. I believe that Sedaris purpose with the text is to motivate college
students who may be experiencing a difficult course with a less than pleasant teacher so that he may
inspire students to achieve all their goals. He may seem negative about his teacher and course but in
the ending he tells us everything about his achievement and therefore he seems really positive. The

calculator, her BMI would be 22.0 (nih.gov). Which would put her in the normal weight range, but
only 3 points from being overweight and 8 points from being considered obese. The use of another
online calculator would determine that she needs to consume 2316 calories per day to survive (Adult

BMR is defined as the amount of energy used by the body in a sedentary state with no digestion

The Archetype Of Theseus As A Hero
Heroes are inspirational figures in stories that relay relatable messages. Some of the most famous
heroes include Harry Potter, Superman, Wonder Woman, etc. In greek mythology, Theseus, like
Superman or Harry Potter, is also considered a hero. Theseus was the son of Poseidon who went to
Athens to meet his supposed father, the king. In hopes of freeing him of his debt, he travels to Crete
where Minos resided and killed the minotaur whom Aegeus was to feed 7 each of the most beautiful
maidens and courageous men in his kingdom. Theseus is considered a hero for he possesses qualities
of a hero and his/her journey. Theseus fits the hero archetype because he is clever, which means that
he has situational intelligence; he is determined, which means that he is firmly set in opinion or
purpose; and he has a supernatural helper, which is someone who aids the hero in his/her quest usually
by providing them with a talisman or advice.
Theseus is clever in that he is able to figure out a solution hastily given a situation. On his journey to
Athens, Theseus encountered Sciron whom he had heard of as someone who fed passersby to his giant
turtle. In the text, it states, When the giant kicked, Theseus pulled, dodging swiftly out of the way as
the enormous body hurled over him, over and down, splashing the water cliff high as it hit (Evslin
153). In order to avoid being fed to the turtle, he used the giant s kick tactic against him and sent him
hurling down into the water. This

The World Of World War I
Prior to the beginning of World War I, the world economy was held up by four pillars: the gold
standard, free trade, communication and transportation, and capital and labor labor mobility. After
facing two world wars and a worldwide economic depression, economists and governments from
around the world implemented several development strategies. Some strategists tried to rebuild the
order from before World War I in a more flexible and stable way while others bucked the traditional
world order all together in an attempt to develop more quickly. While import substituting
industrialization provided short term benefits and long term problems to the nations that practiced it,
the Bretton Woods System provided sustainable economic growth to ... Show more content on

Nations that practiced ISI could never entirely eliminate their dependence on the world economy, and
ISI s bias against exports left nations with very little export revenue which could be used to pay for
things that the nation absolutely had to import. These balance of payments crises hurt domestic
economies, often leading to social unrest and coups. Compounding the problems caused by balance of
payments problems, nations which practiced ISI also tended to have high inflation rates as well as
high income inequality caused by privileging industrialization at the expense of agricultural classes.
Ultimately, ISI nations began experiencing massive social, political, and economic problems which
stifled further development.
After World War II, the Western economic powers implemented the Bretton Woods System, an
attempt to concurrently return to, build upon, and strengthen the pre World War I economic system.
The stringency of the Gold Standard was replaced by an economic system in which currencies were
tied together by the more flexible US dollar, which was itself backed by gold. Free trade was
reimplemented by GATT, which would later become the WTO. Under the Bretton Woods System, the
world saw an incredible amount of post war economic growth. Jeffry Frieden points out that in the
postwar period, advanced capitalist nations grew three times as fast as in the interwar years and twice
as fast as before World War I . The Bretton Woods System allowed for

It is a pretty safe bet to say that everyone knows what adoption is; it is also pretty safe to say that
everyone knows, or at least knows of, someone who is adopted. However, I would definitely think
twice before that people would know what was involved in the process of adoption. From the time I
was a young girl, I have always thought that I would adopt a child, since being an adopted from South

Even if you receive some type of assistance, you are still eligible to adopt as long as you have an
adequate resources to provide for your family (Adoption). The other requirements are to be expected:
interviews, personal history, background check, and references. The majority of the children awaiting
adoption are not simply sitting in institutions with little human contact and no sense of family. Most
children waiting to be adopted are in foster care. Foster care provides temporary placement in a family
setting. Over 500,000 children in the U.S. currently reside in some form of foster care (Foster). This is
not to say that there are over 500,000 children waiting for adoptive parents. Actually, the number
needing to be adopted ends up being much lower. Two out of three children who enter foster care are
reunited with their birth parents within two years. A significant number, however, can spend long
periods of time in care awaiting adoption or other permanent arrangement (Foster).
Making decisions about the future for a child in foster care can be difficult and controversial. Options
include: returning the child to his/her birth parents; termination of parental rights (a formal legal
procedure) to be followed, hopefully, by adoption; or long term care with foster parents or relatives.
Most states encourage efforts to provide the birth parents with support and needed services (e.g.

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) refers to a class of psychological and behavioral interventions
based on the premise that cognitive and behavioral factors play an important role in maintaining
psychological disorders and distress. Taking into account the knowledge on the development and

underlying cognitive and behavior factors unique to the disorder (Hofmann, Asnaani, Vonk, Sawyer

the changes of heat in a system which can then be converted to energy by known mathematical
relationships. This investigation seeks to calculate the energy output of Ethanol and determine the
optimal calorimeter apparatus for its combustion considering different types of insulation and the best
substance in the Calorimeter to absorb the heat of the reaction.
Alcohols are an organic compound whose molecule contains one or more of the hydroxyl functional
group ( OH) that is bonded to a carbon atom of an alkyl (Nave, 2014). When alcohol is burnt, a
combustion reaction occurs with the oxygen in the air, releasing energy in the form of heat. The
specific ethanol reaction is as follows:
(ΔH = 1300 kJ/mol)
According to The First Law of Thermodynamics, the energy in a system is constant; it can be
transformed from one form to another, but cannot be created or destroyed (Purdue, 2004). Energy in
chemical reactions is released as heat, which gets transferred from a substance of higher energy, to that
of a lower energy, most commonly by conduction. Conduction occurs best with metals because their
molecules are close and they can absorb and release energy quickly, whilst mediums like air are
considered insulators because their particles are distanced (Nave, 2014).
The specific heat capacity of the substance provides a means of relating the energy

  • 2. Media Bias In The Media Essay During former U.S president, Barack Obamas presidency, he administrated the Affordable Care Act. Under the Affordable Care Act, women could receive free birth control. Employers were required to cover all forms of birth control. On October 6th, Donald Trump issued a ruling that would allow employers and corporations to drop the coverage of birth control if they had religious or moral reasons to do so. This ruling has sparked a variety of responses. Many liberals are calling it an attack on women while religious and conservative groups are happy that they don t have to go against their religious beliefs anymore. The media and news sources were quick to report on this event. However, some news sources have spun the story in certain ways in order to fit their agenda. The New York Times and Fox News both twist this event to appeal to certain audiences using bias by headline, omission, and choice of words while the Kaiser Family Foundation stays neutral. Mass communication outlets have become fundamental parts of modern society in the recent years. Americans rely on these media outlets to stay updated on the worlds issues. However, these outlets know exactly how to shape and influence people inconspicuously. The News often caters to certain groups and the truth is usually dismissed. Instead of being informed about the important issues, the media tends to focus on entertaining topics. Most Americans are not aware that their views are being dictated by the media and the ... This has been observed and studied by psychologists, educators, and scientists by means of humans and animals and how they perform in different environments. This fascination is known as behaviorism. This aspect of behaviorism deals with how a humans or animals respond to a certain stimuli and how a new behavior is then developed. This theory focuses on that behavior is influenced by the unconscious mind. Freud felt that the human mind was made up of three elements which include the id, the ego, and the superego. Eric Erikson, Carl Jung, and Anna Freud were also psychoanalysis thinkers. Humanistic psychology was developed as a response to behaviorism and psychoanalysis. Individual free will, self actualization and personal growth were focused on by humanistic psychology. Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow were amongst the major humanistic psychology thinkers. Gestalt psychology is based upon that people experience things as unified wholes. This approach started in the late 19th century in Austria and Germany. This approach was a response to molecular approach of structuralism (Cherry, 2005). Gestalt psychologists felt things must be looked at as a whole rather than breaking the thought down. They believed that a whole is more than just the sum of its parts. Cognitive psychology is a school of thought which studies the mental process including how we remember, think, perceive, and learn. Philosophy, neuroscience, and linguistics are disciplines that are related to this branch of psychology. The stages of cognitive development theory by Jean Piaget were amongst the most influential theories from cognitive psychology. This also leaves chains such as KFC being the late majority and late adopters when placed in to the diffusion of innovation model as I did with Subway, since most of the day to day business situations can be seen by franchisees who are very hands on KFC have put them self at a loss by not listening to their franchisees. Being the late majority and late adopters they represent a group which are slower and more content to see how the market develops, they want more reassurance about the benefits and worth of making changes, they can in some cases be very averse to change and have therefore resisted adopting new techniques in marketing, promotion and development. On the flip side KFC s more sceptical out look has allowed them to maintain their market position, by being more traditional in their approach they don t stand risking failure and financial losses which can sometimes occur from innovation when a lot is invested on research of development which don t then translate in to profits for the chain. FDR claimed that as the country grew the population migrated across the land to reap its benefit, in doing so Americans also destroyed the land without regard for future. However, in 1991, NSFNet began phasing out its commercial use ban. Using the internet to advertise is a relatively new phenomenon. Many businesses are moving away, or have moved away from traditional advertising, where viewers see a thirty second ad on television during prime time or during a sporting event. Advertisers find this costly and the Ads do not reach as large an audience in a convenient time as advertising on the Web does. • 7. What Cats Should Eat Essay Many cat owners assume they know what their beloved cats are supposed to eat by reading the nutrition label on the cat food bags and comparing to what they know about basic human nutrition. But is that really what they should be doing? The nutrients that cats need is different from what humans need, and by imposing a cat owner s nutritional views on their cat may be unfair to the cat s health. What cats eat has a huge effect on the quality of the cat s life. A cat s diet is affected by commercial cat food makers and cat owners. Since cats prefer more nutritious food, it is probably safe to assume that they know on an evolutionary level that more nutrients are better for them than fewer nutrients. In the 1958 study, once a cat became sick, the scientists attempted to bring the cats back to health. The cats that developed severe anorexia died, but the cats who suffered only from hair loss had their fur grow back once the removed riboflavin was replaced in their diets (Gershoff). The study also found that cataracts could be developed in cats from a lack of carbohydrates in their diets (Gershoff). Now more than ever is a good time to learn about the dangers of malnutrition in cats because human fad diets are often pushed onto the family cat as well. Vegan diets can be devastating to one s health if the proper vitamins and supplements are not taken. Most amino acids that humans need come from meats and many fruits and vegetables hold very little true nutritional value to the human diet. Technical Innovation, Policy Making And Industrial Strategy Recommendations While Autonomous car presents enormous potential and benefits, there is a long way to go before we achieve fully self driving automation. Going forward, there are three areas we would like to advise on: technical innovation, policy making and industrial strategy. Firstly, there have been active innovations in modular functionalities. In the technologies list below, most of them are still in the early stage of the S curve and it will take long time for the trial, testing and adoption (for example, it took almost 50 years for the complete adoption of airbags), especially when safety is the number one concern in the automobile sector. Therefore, open and continuous innovation is the essence to improve functionality, technical performance and reliability, and to address technical issues. They are deciding whether or not to make an abortion, which is indirectly implied on the narrative. Hemingway has a specific way of creating the story that it becomes apparent that every description he used is a symbol of the plot. Through this way of storytelling, Hemingway created an adamant and very relatable narrative that exposes human truths, emotions, and the confusion that is inherent in the different situations and conditions which people have over their lives. The plot opens with an extended description of the scenery found in the setting of the story. As the characters will travel by train, Hemingway used this to formulate the description of the setting and to organize the concept of the story. Modern Day Temperature Measurement Devises And Their Uses Relevance Three examples of modern day temperature measurement devises and their uses: Scientific Theory  Explain the science behind how a mercury thermometer works using the particle model. When a mercury thermometer or any type of thermometer comes into contact with a heated or cooled object the kinetic energy of the molecules of the thermometer heats o cools to match the objects temperature. The thermometer normally has a liquid substance such as mercury or alcohol that will expand when heated. The molecules move faster taking up more space causing the liquid in the thermometer to expand and rise to show the liquids substance temperature. Also the molecules bounce against each other harder and harder which is pushing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first thermometer used had the same basics as today using a glass test tube and mercury or coloured alcohol. The draw backs of the thermometer went back to 400 years ago when the inventor Galileo created a thermometer to measure the temperature of water.  What is the difference between a thermoscope and a thermometer? The difference between thermoscope and a thermometer is that a thermometer measures heat and has a scale that determines the actual temperature where as a thermoscope is an earlier version of a thermometer which doesn t have a scale which meant that you could only tell that the temperature was decreasing or increasing. Also a thermoscope doesn t let you know the actual temperature which means in experiments if you use a thermoscope the experiment will not be accurate.  Explain how the Fahrenheit scale was developed and when. The Fahrenheit scale was invented by a German physicist named Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit who the scale was named after. In 1714 the first modern thermometer as developed which was the mercury thermometer with more advanced measurements than all of the other thermometers created. The original Fahrenheit scale was not entirely accurate because it did not give an accurate calibrate. The Fahrenheit temperature scale ranged from 212 degrees (boiling point of water on this scale) to 32 degrees (boiling point on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This presents an interesting dilemma: The asset which is most important is the least understood, least prone to measurement, and, hence least susceptible to management. He goes on to commend the co authors of The HR Scorecard for three specific contributions: their development of causal models which illustrate the relationship of HR value drivers with business outcomes and thereby take the Balanced Scorecard to the next level of sophistication; their research on the drivers of highperformance organizations to provide a framework to decision makers with which to formulate and implement strategies for human capital growth; and finally, their insights into the competencies required by HR professionals, competencies which can enabler an organization to deliver on the promise of its measurement system. In essence, the co authors of The HR Scorecard identify and explain linkages indeed the interdependence between and among people, strategy, and performance. Only by understanding these linkages and their independence can decision makers in any organization (regardless of size or nature) accurately measure the nature, value, and impact of human capital on the bottom line. The egg beaters were hand cranked, Hand cranks don t require electricity, there is a handle you hold it with and a little knob that you twist so it could mix the ingredients together. In 1856, a Maryland Tinner named Ralph Collier was the man who invented hand cranked egg beaters. The hand cranked egg beaters were used by hand nothing electrical in them, but a more years went by people started inventing so much more mixers and they were electrical of different kind. A handheld electric mixer is basically an electrical mixer that has a handle and someone holds it while the mixer is mixing the eggs and other things. Mixers are of course something used in the kitchen and only the kitchen. People or chiefs use it for baking because it makes the dough in a better smoother texture than if it was hand mixed. A classical American mixer brand is Dover stamping company, the company bought the patent egg beaters in 1859. An American man named Rufus Eastman invented the first mixer which was in 1885. The first man to invent electric mixer was named Herbert Johnson that was in 1908. It takes time and a lot of patience if you want to learn a new foreign language. Travelling to a foreign country and learning the language by a native citizen is one way to learn it. This is the way the author learns it and in Me talk pretty one day we read about his experiences with a native teacher. David Sedaris tells the story of how he tried to learn French and therefore travelled to Paris, France. Going back to school was strange but still it was exciting. He sees himself as a debutant to school, one going back to school again. He looks back at the college life and compares himself with a youngster. After paying my tuition ... He and the other students did not believe that any of them would ever improve. A lot of time went and he had a hard time seeing things on the bright side. Even though he did not understand every word in the beginning he kept studying and because of his awful French teacher he decided to study even harder and because of this he one day realizes that he understood every word she said to him. Some of the most famous heroes include Harry Potter, Superman, Wonder Woman, etc. In greek mythology, Theseus, like Superman or Harry Potter, is also considered a hero. Theseus was the son of Poseidon who went to Athens to meet his supposed father, the king. In hopes of freeing him of his debt, he travels to Crete where Minos resided and killed the minotaur whom Aegeus was to feed 7 each of the most beautiful maidens and courageous men in his kingdom. Theseus is considered a hero for he possesses qualities of a hero and his/her journey. Theseus fits the hero archetype because he is clever, which means that he has situational intelligence; he is determined, which means that he is firmly set in opinion or purpose; and he has a supernatural helper, which is someone who aids the hero in his/her quest usually by providing them with a talisman or advice. Theseus is clever in that he is able to figure out a solution hastily given a situation. On his journey to Athens, Theseus encountered Sciron whom he had heard of as someone who fed passersby to his giant turtle. In the text, it states, When the giant kicked, Theseus pulled, dodging swiftly out of the way as the enormous body hurled over him, over and down, splashing the water cliff high as it hit (Evslin 153). After facing two world wars and a worldwide economic depression, economists and governments from around the world implemented several development strategies. Some strategists tried to rebuild the order from before World War I in a more flexible and stable way while others bucked the traditional world order all together in an attempt to develop more quickly. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nations that practiced ISI could never entirely eliminate their dependence on the world economy, and ISI s bias against exports left nations with very little export revenue which could be used to pay for things that the nation absolutely had to import. These balance of payments crises hurt domestic economies, often leading to social unrest and coups. Compounding the problems caused by balance of payments problems, nations which practiced ISI also tended to have high inflation rates as well as high income inequality caused by privileging industrialization at the expense of agricultural classes. Ultimately, ISI nations began experiencing massive social, political, and economic problems which stifled further development. After World War II, the Western economic powers implemented the Bretton Woods System, an attempt to concurrently return to, build upon, and strengthen the pre World War I economic system. The stringency of the Gold Standard was replaced by an economic system in which currencies were tied together by the more flexible US dollar, which was itself backed by gold. Free trade was reimplemented by GATT, which would later become the WTO. Under the Bretton Woods System, the world saw an incredible amount of post war economic growth. Even if you receive some type of assistance, you are still eligible to adopt as long as you have an adequate resources to provide for your family (Adoption). The other requirements are to be expected: interviews, personal history, background check, and references. The majority of the children awaiting adoption are not simply sitting in institutions with little human contact and no sense of family. Most children waiting to be adopted are in foster care. Foster care provides temporary placement in a family setting. Over 500,000 children in the U.S. currently reside in some form of foster care (Foster). This is not to say that there are over 500,000 children waiting for adoptive parents. Actually, the number needing to be adopted ends up being much lower. Two out of three children who enter foster care are reunited with their birth parents within two years. A significant number, however, can spend long periods of time in care awaiting adoption or other permanent arrangement (Foster). Making decisions about the future for a child in foster care can be difficult and controversial. Options include: returning the child to his/her birth parents; termination of parental rights (a formal legal procedure) to be followed, hopefully, by adoption; or long term care with foster parents or relatives. Background Information Calorimeters are devices used to indirectly calculate the energy output of burning fuels by measuring the changes of heat in a system which can then be converted to energy by known mathematical relationships. This investigation seeks to calculate the energy output of Ethanol and determine the optimal calorimeter apparatus for its combustion considering different types of insulation and the best substance in the Calorimeter to absorb the heat of the reaction. Alcohols are an organic compound whose molecule contains one or more of the hydroxyl functional group ( OH) that is bonded to a carbon atom of an alkyl (Nave, 2014). When alcohol is burnt, a combustion reaction occurs with the oxygen in the air, releasing energy in the form of heat. The specific ethanol reaction is as follows: (ΔH = 1300 kJ/mol) According to The First Law of Thermodynamics, the energy in a system is constant; it can be transformed from one form to another, but cannot be created or destroyed (Purdue, 2004). Energy in chemical reactions is released as heat, which gets transferred from a substance of higher energy, to that of a lower energy, most commonly by conduction. Conduction occurs best with metals because their molecules are close and they can absorb and release energy quickly, whilst mediums like air are considered insulators because their particles are distanced (Nave, 2014). The specific heat capacity of the substance provides a means of relating the energy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
